Tommy Douglass Religion
Being a Baptist preacher, Tommy Douglas was a religious man. His religion ruled many choices in his
early life. Douglas would spend every Sunday in the Weyburn church preaching the gospel, and on the
weekdays, he would do what he could to help the suffering of poor. As at the time, the great economic
depression had it s grip on Saskatchewan. Furthermore, Tommy Douglas was also a pragmatist.
Instead of thinking on the ideals, he thought practically. He was a calculating man. Many people
despised his views, not his religious views, but his political ones. As a member of the Cooperative
Commonwealth Foundation and later the New Democratic Party, he was a social democrat or socialist
. A lot of citizens thought the government would fall under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Shortly after, he moved to Weyburn, Saskatchewan. At that time he witnessed all the suffering the
people in the province were facing due to the great depression. Tommy Douglas felt something had
needed to be done, and so he decided that politics was the way. 1933, Tommy Douglas had joined the
Cooperative Commonwealth Foundation (CCF), a socialist political party in Canada. Which later
became the New Democratic Party (NDP). During the 1934 Saskatchewan elections, he was
unsuccessful, but he did not give up. At the 1935 federal election, he ran as a member of the CCF. This
time he was successful. During his time in Parliament, he spent much of the time advocating for civil
liberties and such that others did not agree with. Tommy Douglas built a reputation as a witty debater.
In 1944, Tommy Douglas decided to resign from the Parliament and run for the Saskatchewan general
election. He spent the next 17 years as premier. His most notable achievement as premier, was the
establishment of a government funded medical care plan. 1961, Douglas resigned as premier to lead
the NDP. Lots were accomplished in his lifespan, but he did not live forever. Tommy Douglas passed

Living On Mars
People will be living on Mars by 2031, but where is the next place we will colonize? When you think
about the Earth what do you think of? The ocean? The grass? The sky? What about all the pollution
that humans have put on the Earth? Why do we live on Earth? We as humans are fully capable of
going to other planets. Heck, we have done it, but what about beyond those planets, and beyond the
entire universe. What is out there? There is a many number of possibilities. There could be other
universes, or maybe there is nothing out there. We don t know. If there are other universes or other
dimensions, we might be able to inhabit them. They could have some new element to cure cancer, or
simply another fresh water source, but we won t know unless ... Show more content on

These are the 10 dimensions of the superstring theory. Evidence of the Multiverse and Multiverse
Theories There are 5 main theories on why the multiverse is possible. The first theory is that we don t
know the shape of space time. Space time could be flat and stretch on forever causing multiple
universes. If this theory is true there would be universes that repeat themselves because atoms can
only be put together so many ways (Howell). The second theory is eternal inflation. This states that
some areas of space stop inflation, but some continue to get larger, so our universe could be a bubble
sitting in a network of bubble universes. In this theory the laws of physics could be different for each
universe because they aren t linked (Howell). The third theory is that multiple universes can follow the
theory of quantum mechanics, and daughter universes. If you follow the laws of probability it suggests
that for every outcome that could come from your decisions there would be a range of universes, each
with a different outcome from your decisions (Howell). The fourth theory of the multiverse is that of
mathematical universes. This theory suggests that the structure mathematics could change depending
on which universe you are in (Howell). The last multiverse theory goes back to the fact that spacetime
could be flat. But, the number of possible particle configuration in multiple

Equipment Depreciation
Purchasing equipment is one of the biggest expenses that small businesses and start ups face. The IRS
allows you deduct most or all of these expenses. This in turn helps you recoup the cost associated with
running your business. Moreover, by taking this deduction when you prepare your tax return, it lowers
your overall tax bill. In some cases, especially for small businesses, the deductions could result in a
refund.
There are different ways to expense business equipment when filing taxes, which can often lead to
confusion. If you re unsure how the deductions will affect your business, hiring a tax accountant is a
good idea. Mistakes or miscalculations when filing your tax return could trigger an IRS audit. A
professional can lessen the stress and time constraints during the tax preparation season.

For instance, furniture, office equipment, vehicles, computers, business software, and machinery
would all fall under equipment depreciation. These tangible items for your business are considered
capital assets since they are used to make a profit.
Understanding Section 179 Deduction
Under Section 179, the IRS allows you to deduct the full price of the equipment you purchased or
leased during the year. By taking this deduction, you are essentially deducting the full cost of the
equipment from your company s gross income.
Your company must have a taxable income before you can use the 179 deduction. Additionally, there
is a cap on the deduction set at $500,000 that you can claim. There is also a maximum of $2,010,000
for business equipment expenses during the year that Section 179 is claimed. Most small business will
not spend this amount on equipment during the early years of being in business, which is why this
deduction is so valuable.

The Decision Of Drop The Atomic Bomb
The decision to drop the atomic bomb, made by President Truman, was largely influenced by political
factors rather than military factors. Traditionalist historians argue from the military perspective that
the bomb was used to end the war as quickly as possible and with as minimal causalities as possible.
Revisionist historians, on the other hand, argue the political perspective where they believe that the
bomb was dropped as a diplomatic tool to intimidate the rising superpower that was the Soviet Union.
In 1945, there was little reason to doubt the traditionalist perspective; however, in retrospect, with the
evidence now gathered and available, it was very likely there were other strategic reasons that played
a larger role in the decision Truman had made. By observing the historical timeline, the Cold War
began shortly after World War II. Truman was aware of the rising power of the USSR and the threat of
the spread of communism into Europe and Asia. The fear of this threat was what likely influenced him
and Congress to use the bomb more so than the desire to end the war more efficiently. From the
perspective of the traditionalists, Truman was more strongly influenced by a desire to end the war
immediately, and the desire of the American people to extract some measure of revenge on Japan. The
Unites States, before the dropping of the bomb, had suffered an unprovoked attack from Japan at Pearl
Harbor on December 7, 1941. The Japanese destroyed most of the American pacific

Personal Reflection Of Personal Ethics In The Classroom
I am one of the numerous amount of students enrolled in your class and most likely, you have no idea
who I am. I am hopeful that this letter will apprise you about my personality, work ethic, and other
characteristics.
When I was younger, I enjoyed being constantly active; whether that be hanging off the couch while
watching T.V. or running around my house yelling incoherent phrases to drive my mother insane, I did
it all. One day, I stumbled upon a video of a girl teaching the viewer how to do a skill named the back
handspring (a skill where you push off from an upright standing position into vertical back onto your
feet to complete a full rotation). In awe, it inspired me to attempt it myself, until I realized it took a lot
more to flip backwards and expect to land on your hands without falling onto your face. I can recall
myself watching a plethora of these varieties of videos in where people demonstrated how to do
different certain skills. I would be fascinated by the idea that you can maneuver your body to do tricks
that most people would not dare to attempt. Not long after that, I begged to try out and, to my
amazement, ended up making it into what would become my gymnastics team.
When I first began, I was not prepared for the amount of work that was required of the individual,
both physically and mentally. I remember the first practice I attended was one of my most exhausting.
Being a newcomer to such an intense sport, it allowed many, many mistakes. The quote said

Quotes That Show Bravery In Odysseus
Throughout the Odyssey, the Greek hero Odysseus show bravery, which, I think, is the most important
trait for a hero to exhibit. The first episode in which Odysseus shows bravery is in the episode New
Coasts and Poseidon s son. When Odysseus is stuck in the cave with Polyphemus Odysseus knew that
they need to find a way out so they were? going to blind the giant. Odysseus was going to stick a spear
into the eye of the giant Polyphemus. Odysseus could have stayed in the back lines and had his men
do it for him, but instead he was there to spear the Giant. This shows the trait bravery
The Second episode in which Odysseus shows bravery is the episode Sea Perils and defeat. Odysseus

Lady Macbeth Deception
It was a gloomy, cold Monday morning when Lady Macbeth was called into the conference room.
Feeling the confusion in the room, she took a seat at the corner of the table. Everyone was speaking to
one another, trying to understand why they all had been called for a meeting so unexpectedly, leaving
Lady Macbeth to sit unaccompanied, the way she enjoyed it. A short man soon came into the room,
catching the attention of all the workers, clearly showing the man s authority. As the workers
scrambled to find a seat, the man began to announce, Attention fellow employees, in the next week I
will be giving a promotion. However, the competition is very tight. You must show me that you excel

how to function a search engine! You re a fraud! Lady Macbeth understood what she was saying and
she understood the outcome of her words. The line went silent, and after a few moments the man

Why I Chose A Nurse For The Interview Process Of Oral History
I am currently in my senior year; I am about to graduate with a bachelor s in nursing next semester
and I am feeling anxious about what the real world is all about. I am not worried about my skills,
expertise, certifications or the demands of registered nurses. I am very concerned about the high and
low points of nursing, which is why I chose a nurse for the interview process of oral history. In my
perspective, nursing is caring. Nurses help patients attain their best possible health goals. Oral history
draws a picture about the working life of nurses through revealing what nurses see as important,
providing an idea about the roles of a nurse, showcasing how nurses cope with the most stressful
experiences and aiding nursing students with role transition. In this project I also tackle my interview
process and possible factors why it is shortened. First, nurses are legally liable to abide by patient
privacy making it difficult to penetrate their experiences with patients. As a result, Kiki could not
elaborate. Other factors to consider are the teacher student relationship and the formality of a recorded
interview, which could alter the conversational atmosphere. Moreover, the lack of interviewees affects
the accuracy of oral history as a research methodology. These issues, however, may be resolved by
interviewing respondents with various backgrounds to represent a group. In addition, critiquing the
interview helps draw meanings that impacts validity and accuracy. I was eager

Dispositional Inference In Research Paper
Humans are social thinkers, and therefore, have actions that are influenced by their social situations.
Social cognition is how people select, interpret, judge, and store the information they receive from
others. Basically, we remember the information we deem important and that means something to us,
and use shortcuts to fill in the rest. We utilize these shortcuts to conserve mental effort, to save time
and thought, and to manage our self image.
One shortcut many individuals use is going off of our current expectations, which can sometimes lead
to holding stereotypes (Trope Thompson, 1997) (Kenrick 76). For example, when I went tailgating
freshman year, I did this without even realizing it. Although I didn t know the fraternity boys who ...

For instance, one weekend I witnessed an acquaintance get into a fight downtown. The thoughts of
people seeing this probably ranged from thinking this individual was aggressive, to thinking he was a
victim. However, knowing this individual as an aggressive, confident guy, I simply made an inference
that he started the fight. Surprisingly enough, to me at least, he said that it was the other guy who
started the fight, and others agreed. This is an epitome of the correspondence bias improperly using
dispositional inferences. This can also be seen in a study by Edward Jones and Victor Harris, 1967.
The study participants read essays that were either pro or anti Fidel Castro, and were told that the
writers either chose their stance, or were forced to take it. You would think that the participants would
judge the individuals who got to choose their side as more strongly biased than those who were simply
given a stance. However, the study participants actually paid little attention to their situations, and
deemed those who were given a side as strongly biased as well (Kenrick 78).
Galen Bodenhausen showed in his experiments (1990) that someone who is considered a morning
person is more likely to use cognitive shortcuts at night, and vice versa. Being a morning person, I can
definitely see this apply in my life. I tend to be exhausted when nighttime comes, so I use shortcuts to
to save as much energy as possible. Since I ve been aware of this, I ve taken note of it, and try to be
more mindful of these shortcuts at night. I also try and push myself to study in the day instead of
night, as this is when my brain is the most active and more likely to soak up the

Summary Of Bacchae By Euripides And Oresteia
In this paper, I intend to describe the inner working of the household in Greek civilization on three
levels: family, city, and cosmos of gods. To achieve this goal, we will look into Bacchae by Euripides,
and Oresteia by Aeschylus. Bacchae shows the workings of the house of Cadmus, a royal family,
whose actions directly affect their city. This family tree includes a god, and is strongly affected by the
will of the cosmos, through Dionysus. Oresteia is a play of three parts. We see the families
dysfunctional interactions, and how they impact the city over time. We also see how the gods have an
influence on these characters lives throughout the events that happen. Overall these interactions lead
to the undermining of Greek civilization through death and destruction. Bacchae is a good example of
the three levels of the household. Starting with the level of family we see the flawed family dynamic
in the house of Cadmus. Cadmus has four daughters. Semele is the mother of Dionysus, and Agave is
the mother of Pentheus. Semele claimed the father of her child was Zeus, but the rest of her family did
not believe her tales, calling her a liar. No one in the family, or city for that matter, believed Dionysus
status was true, disrespecting him and his followers. Dionysus say Pentheus ...pays no attention to me
in his prayers. For that I ll show him I am a true god. (Bacc.46 48) Dionysus does just that, showing
them the truth in the worst way possible, enacting his revenge by having Agave unknowingly rip her
own son, Pentheus, apart with the help of her sisters. Agave says she d like to go far away from the
curse of Kithairon....where there s no display of a thyrus to remind me. (Bacc.1384 1386) She know
Dionysus has defeated them, and her son is dead, she wants only to get away from the pain. This royal
family is torn apart, murderer, exiled, and turned to serpents at the hands of one of their own relatives
because they had no respect for him or his followers.
The fact that the family is of royal blood mean what happens to them affects not just the inner
workings of the family, but the city state as a whole, or the second level of the household. When the
city did not believe Dionysus, instead backing the beliefs

Analysis of the Movie Harold and Maude- A Cult Classic Essay
Harold and Maude is a cult classic from the 1970 s that defined film making today. The movie based
around a young man named Harold Chasen, and an old woman Maude. Harold seems to have a bizarre
psychological fascination with death. While Maude is also interested in death; she enjoys living as
well and has lived her life to the fullest. Both are brought together while attending funerals simply
because they enjoy them. Maude begins to influence and change Harold s perceptions and attitudes
about life. Harold and Maude are polar opposite, in age, but the time they spend together will help
Harold live his life better and more fulfillingly.

LIVE! Maude shares many of these ideas and beliefs with Harold, teaching him to dance, play the
banjo, and just enjoy being alive, not dead.
Harold was unaware that when he met Maude, she had planed all along to end her life at the age of
eighty. She says several times throughout the movie, Did you know I ll be eighty on Saturday . Her
decision to commit suicide shows that Maude feels she has done her part in helping Harold be a
happier person and has succeeded in teaching him how to love and enjoy life, which are qualities he
did not possess prior to their meeting. She makes him understand this when, after he tells her he loves
her, she says, Go and love some more. After Maude s death, Harold drives his car over a cliff in
another attempt to make people believe he is dead again. Harold walks away playing his banjo and
dancing, things that Maude had taught him. By driving his car over the cliff to make people think he is
dead again makes Harold happy since he enjoys being dead, but the banjo and Harold s dancing are
symbols of the effects of his relationship with Maude. These signify that Harold has grown due to his
relationship with Maude and will use the advice that Maude has given him in order to live a more
fulfilling and enjoyable life.
Because this film is so influenced by it s time, it seems appropriate that the director used the music of
Cat Stevens. Cat Stevens music defined a generation, and Harold and Maude are no exception. Both

North America Vs North Korea Essay
Imagine a life living in North Korea. A country so isolated and cut off from the rest of the world. After
many years after the war, North Korea and America have not been at a complete truce. North Korea
holds America responsible for tearing their country into two parts, North and South. Nevertheless
there are many similarities and differences between America and North Korea.
An impoverished country of more than twenty five million people, North Korea, also known as the
Democratic People s Republic of Korea (DPRK) was founded by the revolutionary leader Kim IL
Sung after the end of World War II. North Korea began as an independent kingdom for much of its
long history. Both North and South Korea were under Japanese control in 1905 until the country was
split after the end of World War II. Located in eastern Asia in the northern half of the Korean
Peninsula, bordering the Korea Bay and the Sea of Japan, North Korea sits in a strategic location
bordering China, Russia, and South Korea. North Korea is slightly larger than the state of Virginia, but

This movie accurately shows us that Dory has Anterograde Amnesia. One specific scene where this
disorder is displayed is in the beginning when Dory s parents are telling her what to say when she
meets someone ( I suffer from short term memory loss). After this the parents act as if they are random
people and start playing hide and seek. When the parents tell her to count to 10, she counts up to 3 and
forgets what they are doing. She then wanders off to a group of fish and their parents immediately
chase after her. This scene accurately displays Anterograde Amnesia since it shows us that Dory is
unable to remember what is going on and then wanders off elsewhere. Another scene where the
disorder is displayed is when Dory can t remember where her parents are as a result of accidentally
losing them and then Dory asks a couple of fishes that she needs help finding them, but forgets what
she said and repeats the same thing again. This shows that Dory s short term memory loss or
Anterograde Amnesia causes her to forget where her parents are and even makes herself look
awkward when repeating a question that she already asked. A third example of Dory displaying that
she has Anterograde Amnesia is when she is sleeping and then gets up to ask one of her friends a

We Real Cool In this paper the topic that will be written about is the poem entitled We Real Cool .
This poem was written in 1960 by a woman named Gwendolyn Brooks. In this paper three topics have
been selected so that this poem will be able to be analyzed. With each element, it will de discussed
how those elements affected and interested me while reading. The three elements that have been
written about are form, language, and content. Form, in poetry, can be understood as the physical
structure of the poem: the length of the lines, their rhythms, their system of rhymes and repetition (The
Poetry Archive, 2005 2010). Form is the technical word for the look and sound of language
(Kwikguide, 2009). In a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a lot of confusion about what the writer was trying to get across. Initially, the thought that
the poem was referring to herself was a bit transparent, so immediately the thought was that it was
supposed to be a tragic poem. However, after listening to the author read the poem, and did more
research, there was complete surprise. The poem was written to come off as a happy and a very
positive poem. As it was mentioned previously, the most interesting part about this poem is the We .
Gwendolyn is a very enjoyable sounding writer. She has a very strong pronunciation and the age in
her voice helps with the passionate sound of the reading. In conclusion, form, content, and language
come together in this literary work to offer a striking emotional response from its reader. Without each
of these specific components, the poem simply wouldn t have the same effect. Form is necessary to
provide structure, content its scene and language its sound and feel. Gwendolyn Brooks has included
each ingredient to provide a brief, but strong feeling one way or another, for the young people of this
poem.

Lyndon B. Johnson s Foreign Highlights
Lyndon B. Johnson s Foreign Highlights
Lyndon B. Johnson became president in 1963, a time period in which the United States was engaged
in two battles on both the domestic and the international fronts. At home the President was faced with
growing Civil Rights issues and abroad he faced some of the greatest challenges of his political career.
Internationally the United States was already undergoing a Cold war with the Soviet Union and the
newly adopted policy of containment had become the answer to all of the rising Communist
movements all over the world. In Vietnam a massive Civil War was underway as the Pro Communist
Regime of the North invaded the Pro American Regime of the South. The North, which was led by Ho
Chi Minh, was backed by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies invaded the South
backed by the United States and other anti communist allies. Minh s army consisted of North
Vietnamese forces and the Viet Cong, a South Vietnamese communist common front aided by the
North. Ngô Đình Diệm, the leader of the South, had forces that consisted of South Vietnamese
Soldiers and US Soldiers. Amidst these conflicts Johnson rose and took initiatives that would define
American Policy in Vietnam for the rest of his presidency. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was one of the
incidents that increased United States influence and intervention in Vietnam. The USS Maddox, was
in the Gulf Of Tonkin when it reported to be fired upon by a North Vietnamese motorboat. Following

Essay on Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone
Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone
Wolves have always been a symbol of the wild, free in spirit and roamers of the land. These animals
are considered majestic and protectors of the wilderness. They have always roamed the western
United States, although their population has fluctuated over time. Over the past 10 years wolf
reintroduction into Yellowstone National Park has been a controversial topic to those of the United
States. As of 1995, wolves have been reintroduced into the park. This has come with some strong
opposition and yet has prevailed. The future of the wolf in Yellowstone park is now looking bright,
although not certain since there still are those who want them banished again.

Created in 1872 by the department of the Interior, the park was developed by congress for
preservation of its natural curiosities or wonders and prohibiting wanton destruction of its fish and
game (defenders). Wolves were protected in Yellowstone.
Wolves lived in the park for forty years, with claimed increasing nuisance to outsiders. The people
around Yellowstone were complaining that the wolves, basically a nuisance to society, were killing
animal. Thus after discussions and studies, congress agreed and the wolf extermination began. In
1914, the Yellowstone wolf extirpation campaign began after congress appropriated funds for
destroying wolves, prairie dogs, and other animals injurious to agriculture and animal husbandry on
public lands (defenders). The killing of wolves continued until 1926 when the last two wolf pups of
some 136 wolves were killed on a poisoned bison carcass (defenders). The eradication of wolves by
hunting and other means soon cleared out most wolves in all areas of the United States. By the 1940 s
humans had eliminated red and gray wolves from almost all of their historic range in the contiguous
48 states (Noecker).
For a number of years the wolves were not missed by most people, the ranchers and farmers were

cell, record the point the ray comes out by drawing a dot on the paper using the pencil. 5. Record the
line that the light goes from air to oil, and connect the dot with the intersection point of the vertical
line and flat cell side. 6. Measure the angle Θ2andφ2.
DATA
When light passes from one medium to another, air to water for example, part of the light is reflected
at the boundary and part of the light gets bent as it passes on to the new medium. The bending of this
light is referred to as refraction. A sketch of this is shown below.
In this example, n1 is the index of refraction for air. The index of refraction for water is n2. According
to Snell s Law:
n1 sin Θ = n2 sin φ
n(air)=1
Note: The angles are measured with respect to the normal (vertical).
Part of the scientific method is to develop laboratory procedures that test a hypothesis and answer a
scientific question.
Construct an Excel spreadsheet to calculate the index of refraction for water and cooking oil.
Remember that in Excel angular measurement is in radians. Pi radians = 180 degrees.

Theme Of Sunday In The Park By Bel Kaufman
Themes of Sunday in the Park The short story Sunday in the Park by Bel Kaufman contains many
different themes. A theme presented in this story is how society expects certain behaviors on the roles
men have. People use those stereotypes to define strangers when they walk by, but are they always
true? In the story, there are two different fathers. The first man, known as Morton or Larry s father, is
described city pale and cooped up all week inside the gray factory like university . Morton is a
university professor, and in stereotype, society expects a professor to be intelligent, polite, and
someone to respect. Morton contributes to the themes on the roles of men and their behaviors. The
role of being a university professor appears when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is known right away to be an intimidating character when he spits on the ground and does not look
at Larry s mother when she speaks. Society would think that he is intimidating, large, unlikable, and
never to be messed with. When Larry s mother tells Joe to stop throwing sand at Larry, Joe s father
encourages Joe to continue. Joe s father defines the themes on the roles of men and behaviors. Being
completely different from Morton, Joe s father can be presented as a stereotypical man. He obviously
knows how to stand up for himself and earn the best for him and his son. He does not back down like
Morton and immediately gains what he has fought for with his actions. Just by slowly looking over
Morton from head to foot and the way he speaks to Morton, Joe s father fits the stereotype of men
perfectly. His behaviors, such as his body language, the way he speaks, and his reasoning indicate he
is exactly what he looks

The Compleat Angler Analysis
The excellent novel The Compleat Angler written by Izaak Walton in 1653, is historically marked as
one of the top commentaries on both the activity and philosophy of fishing. The setting opens with
three men with very suiting names: Piscator, the angler of the narration, Venator, a hunter, and Auceps,
a falconer. The three men stumble upon each other while each are hiking to their own activities and
decide to walk together, conversing to pass the time. The men each give their descriptions of the
different aspects of their own sport, with Piscators being so eloquent and full of depth that Venator
decides to tag along and fish with him for multiple days. Auceps leaves shortly after and the book
dives into the explanations, thoughts, and actions of Piscator as he shows his masterful art of angling
to Venator. Seemingly countless comparisons of fish and their domain are made with the bible by
Piscator. He begins with a common idea of the time, such that water is the most basic element of the
universe to, show the importance of the world s oceans. A sapling for example, thrives and grows
wood through a hypothesized conversion of water, meaning, according to Piscator s logic, it must be
possible to convert the wood back to its theorized original state. He goes on to compare different fish
species to reflect different personalities that humans have, going as far as to say the cuttlefish is
basically the underwater angler with its lure type strategy of capturing prey. Many other

Mexican American War Dbq
The Mexicans started the Mexican American War in 1846 because of three main reasons. One reason
was that Santa Anna, a general and president of Mexico during 1836, signed the Treaty of Velasco,
which stated that Texas was a free and independent nation, and is not a part of Mexico. When Santa
Anna returned to the capital of Mexico, he completely disregarded this treaty and claimed to have
never signed it with General Houston, even though the Texans had the papers, and claimed that Texas
was in rebellion, so he got his army ready and went after the Texans. Because of this, General Zachary
Taylor was told by the War Department to be ready to move his men from Louisiana to a site near or
on the Rio Grande river in order to protect and/or repel

Disadvantages Of Intermodal Transportation
Traffic congestion is a major urban issue and is not only environmentally harmful, but also costs the
travelers time and money. For these reasons, most of the cities in the world offer public transportation
methods so that more people can be moved efficiently to the same destination at once. However,
people living outside of these cities need to be inside of it in order to gain access to the benefits of
public transportation. Therefore, it has become an important project for Europe to offer travelers
intermodal transportation opportunities. Intermodal transportation involves people utilizing several
transportation methods to get from one place to another. One of the most common examples of
intermodal transportation is based on the installation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this, there are several parameters that could be set as preference to decide which route would be
ideal, for example we can choose the fastest one but also the cheapest one. Here, regarding to several
surveys [4] [7], it appears that the duration and the costs of travel are the most relevant parameters,
with costs being more important to the commuters. To choose the best parameter in this case, it is best
to create a survey and ask potential users for their preferences of what intermodal transportation
should offer them. This way, we increase the possibility for the usage of intermodal transportation in
Aachen since the most preferred parameters vary from city to city and especially country to country
because of different cultures. As shown in Figure 2, illustrating the routes on a map to the commuter is
an important step since that is the way of informing the user of the route and also distinguishes the
three steps described in Figure 1. The user should then be able to see the total costs but also the costs
for every single step, which includes the fuel costs, the car park ticket and the bus

A Summary Of The Bhagavad Gita
I have found the book The Bhagavad Gita to be very appealing. I have never been exposed to the
Indian culture but while reading this book it seems that they have similar beliefs than we do, just
quoted differently. Detachment was one of their practices I found interesting. Reasons to be detached
is greatly explained in this quote, Those who are compulsively attached to the results of action cannot
really enjoy what they do; they get downcast when things do not work out and cling more desperately
when they do (55). This quote is simply saying that we as a whole are not focused on what we should
be doing, we only focus on what we are doing to be perfect. If we act without worrying we may even
be able to enjoy ourselves instead. Even though detachment is practiced in the Indian culture,
everyone should practice it. In the religion I participate in, we tend to put value on everything. Some
people may not want to read the Gita or practice any of their practices due to the fact that it may not
be their religion. I feel that you should really view certain things without judging. I would consider
practicing detachment in order to help ease tension. When you are attached to someone or somethings,
anything can happen to it which cares you to feel a certain way. However, if you were practicing
detachment, you wouldn t really care if something happens to it. You also wouldn t be as hurt; this is
when you find yourself thinking everything happens for a reason. The saying everything

Ethics in Cosmetic Surgery
Every year more and more people around the world are choosing to have cosmetic surgery. It seems to
be an easy fix to problems that people perceive, even if the problems are natural, like breast size. In a
sociological study done in the UK, the author found that [T]o have breast implants requires a major
medical procedure, but they are sold as a fashion accessory and the procedure is framed as a beauty
treatment rather than an operation by those who sell it (Taylor). While many cosmetic surgeries are
fairly simple procedures, there is very little benefit to outweigh the extreme risks, and many doctors
are more interested in making money than fully explaining all of the risks to their patients. Many
patients would be better helped by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of breast augmentation, part of treating an infection means removing the implants (Ho
Asjoe). Not only would the patient be sick from the infection, but they would not even have anything
to show for it. According to the study done by Doctors Yoho, Romaine, and O Neil, the occurrence of
infection after liposuction is as low as 1 in 107, with 1 in 70,892 resulting in death (Yoho et al 738).
They also provide information from a Dutch study, where half of 107 male patients who had
undergone abdominoplasty suffered from some sort of wound infection (Yoho et al 739). Many
cosmetic surgeries are targeted at older patients, who are much more likely to get an infection than
younger patients. Because the patients are older, they are more likely to also have other health
problems, such as diabetes. This also raises their risk factor for infection (Surgical Site Infections).
While infections do not tend to be deadly, there is always the possibility of something serious
happening. The most dangerous risk of infection is sepsis. This usually occurs in the hospital, after the
surgery. The patient would start out with just a fever and redness around the wound site, then if
antibiotics are not administered quickly enough, or if the infection is resistant, the infection can
progress and begin to shut down organs, leading to death (Sepsis). In order to help prevent infection,
doctors must make sure that the patient is in good health and able to keep

The skill which I am going to discuss about is impulse...
The skill which I am going to discuss about is impulse control. It means regardless of what is asked or
done, one is unable to control the need to act upon something. In other words, impulse can be
described as an immediate action or reaction that is particularly evident in emotions. This is an
important skill in today s environment which can indicate the adaptability of an individual in an
external environment and potentially determine future success. For instance, if one is unable to control
his/her impulse and bursts out of anger at every occasion; that person may not be emotionally fit to be
successful because of the lack of self control on their impulses. In the EQ report, the result indicates
that I am rarely impatient and only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SELF REGARD: It helps to assess both external capabilities and internal strength. It is an individual s
ability to maintain a positive self view in terms of personality, self esteem, and individual regard to
other people, but maintain respect and decency in society with morals and virtues. In the EQ report,
the result indicates that I am self assured in my abilities to perform responsibilities in various settings.
Of course, it is a correct evaluation because I usually think of the consequences of my actions upon
others. I agree to anything with a full satisfactory level by seeing the positive side alone. In my point
of view, positive thought beats negativity. Rather than dwelling on frustrations or things that cannot
change, I will devise a plan of action and ask others for assistance and advise to resolve the problems.
For example, I asked my brother s suggestion before selecting my course. He advised me to take an
accounting course since it has lots of job vacancies in Canada and it gives me a different experience in
this field. Even though it is totally different from my education background, I decided to do this
course with full satisfaction by seeing the positive side. I am sure it gives me the prospect of a very
good career. FLEXIBILITY: It is the ability to adapt to different people in different environments and
the ability to handle an unfamiliar, unpredictable or unforeseen circumstance with grace. Also it

Biometric access control systems are so far the best type of access control we have today. The
reasoning for this is because it relies on identifying unique human characteristics such as fingerprints,
retinas, hands, etc. Since these characteristics are unique to each person like DNA, biometric access
control systems are considered far better than the other systems I have listed.
When it comes to access control of computer systems, many of the same types of control systems
mentioned above are also used along with passwords and encryption.
Uses of different systems
There are many ways to use the systems I have already mentioned. Almost all buildings use keys to
lock doors, but depending on the facility, they might also use smart card or proximity cards to control
access into different parts of the building. By doing this they can enhance security and effectively
control the access to different areas all through a computerized system. This allows them to easily
grant or deny access in a very short period of time or only allow access during certain times of the day.
Biometric access control systems can also be used in the same manner. Being able to control access in
this manner also allows for good tracking and logging of who comes and goes.
Components of an access control system
Components of an access control system can be a door, turnstile, gate, elevator, or any other physical
barrier where granting access

The Death Penalty And The Fifth Amendment Summary
In the article The Death Penalty and the Fifth Amendment written by Joseph Blocher, several concepts
surrounding the death penalty and its relation to the Fifth Amendment. Blocher is a law professor at
Duke University. His academic interests include constitutional law, the First and Second Amendments,
capital punishment, and property rights.
Blocher notes a particular argument: the death penalty must be constitutional because the Fifth
Amendment clearly allows it. However, Blocher takes a side on the issue and explains reasons why
this is not necessarily true. One of those reasons is that the death penalty was allowed and
constitutional at the time the Constitution was being written. The author comes to the conclusion that
there may be good arguments for the constitutionality of the death penalty, but the Fifth Amendment is
not one of them. Throughout the article Blocher explains his reason for believing that the Fifth
Amendment does not supply enough evidence to support the use of the death penalty. However,
Blocher also includes evidence that supports opinions that people who disagree with him may have.
He writes: Justice Scalia argued that the Fifth Amendment afforded a textual basis for the capital
punishment s continued constitutionality: The reason is obvious: It is impossible to hold
unconstitutional that which the Constitution explicitly contemplates. The Fifth Amendment provides
that [n]o person shall be held to answer for a capital . . . crime, unless on a

Analysis Of Paris By Night
While Brassaï s three portraits may initially appear harmless, within the context of Paris by Night as
well as the culturally gender roles of the society of which they exist in, they take on a more repressive
rather than honorific role. Arguably, the sense of wonder they create about women who break the
gender norms of the time may give them some honorific functions as well. As Sekula explains,
photography welded the honorific and repressive functions together (Sekula 9). However, because
very portrait implicitly took its place within a social and moral hierarchy Brassaï s photographs still
depict a group of people left to socialize and form communities in the dark, underside of Parisian
society (Sekula 9). Their repressive role is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The full collection of Paris by Night further establishes queer women as criminals, therefore, adding to
the repressive nature of their photographs. Photos #7,8, and 9 are examples of the other photos in
Brassaï s archive Paris at Night of which the previous photographs of queer women are grouped with.
Photograph #7, titled An Opium Den, a Female Habituee , shows a woman who is smoking opium out
of a pipe. This photo has limited light, and the majority of it is dark black. Her face and hands are lit
up enough to see what she is doing, though most of her body is lost in the darkness, signifying to the
audience the dark and dangerous nature of the opium den. Photo #8 titled Washing up in a Brothel
shows what the audience assumes is a prostitute cleaning up in a brothel. The lack of privacy and
gritty room show the absence of respectable social status as well as the criminality of the prostitutes
actions. Furthermore, seeing a private moment such as cleaning one s self adds to the idea that this
collection is revealing the secretive, underground side of Paris which reinforces the idea that the
subjects are doing something wrong. Photo #9 shows a man looking through a mirror at someone who
is undressing. Titled Mirrored Wardrobe in a Brothel , the well groomed hair and neat, clean clothing
of the man signifies he is likely the customer at the brothel, and the person undressing the reflection is
a prostitute. The way the

How Varying Enzyme Concentrations Affect Absorbance Over Time in Potato Homogenate Mixture

Biology 155 Laboratory Tuesdays 6pm
Lab Partners: Kayla, Morel, Ryan
Abstract
Saturation of substrates was a phenomenon that was observed in Part II of the experiment. This was
referenced from later in the discussion. When the enzyme activity from this experiment was compared
to Enoch s work, (Enoch) it was stated that he found that in certain liver cells of rats, enzyme activity
would stop suddenly. The study proposed that the lower Enoch dropped the substrate concentration
within these cells, the less activity he could record. This proved to both his data and to the date from
this experiment that the substrate was necessary for catalysis, because as enzyme concentration rose,
substrates bound more quickly to the active site of an enzyme. Once all substrates in the mixture were
changed to products, the enzyme was stationary because it had no more substrate to catalyze. This
meant that in order for the reaction to continue, substrate concentration had to increase.
Introduction
To understand how and why the experiment was performed, one must understand what enzymes and
substrates are. Enzymes are defined as proteins that are capable of speeding up a chemical reaction by
reducing the amount of activation energy needed to catalyze that reaction (Raven, Johnson and Mason
2014). Enzymes regulate these biochemical processes

GONZALES v. CARHART, CHRISTINA GOTTFRIED, February 19, 2015, ISSUE #4
FACTS: in 1973 with the passing of Roe v. Wade, women were guaranteed, under a right to privacy in
which the woman has the right to choose whether or not to get an abortion, however, this right was not
confirmed to be absolute. Nearly 20 years later, in the case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the central
holdings of Roe v. Wade were reaffirmed, by providing limits in which federal and state governments
can regulate abortion. Unfortunately, conflict arose between Casey and Roe, when trying to ensure the
woman still has a right to choose, which lead to allowing a prohibition of late term abortions, unless
the health of the mother was at stake. Next, in 2000, the case of Stenberg v. Carhart forced the court to
consider a Nebraska state law that was passed banning late term abortions and whether the statute was
unconstitutional, which it was found to be, because the statute did not include an exception for the
health of the mother and that the language used was so broad that it burdened a woman s right to
choose. Then, in 2007, the case of Gonzales v. Carhart raised the issue once again on a federal law that
had been passed, the Partial Birth Ban Act of 2003. The lower courts claimed it to be unconstitutional
because of the lack of exception for the health of the mother. This Act however, was found to be
constitutional and The Supreme Court decided to look once again at the precedent, under stare decisis

Return To Port Charles
The rumors have been brewing for a while, and it has now been confirmed that Helena Cassadine is
still alive and returning to General Hospital. Today the show went to their Facebook page and shared
the details that Helena is coming back. This is after it was announced a while back that she was dead,
but you know that nobody is ever really dead on a soap opera. Helena left several things to people in
Port Charles, and it really did seem that she was finally dead. Helena is seen in a new preview for
General Hospital, and all that she says in the preview is You know, Port Charles is a very mysterious
place. You never know who s going to come on.
The preview doesn t confirm very much just that Helena Cassadine is coming back to Port Charles
once again. Celeb Dirty Laundry did have a few more details about her return. Everyone knows that
Jason Morgan was headed to Cassadine Island to try and figure out why his son Jake was afraid of
him. He knows that he was the scarecrow, but not exactly what Jake saw him do or how bad it really
was for him while there. Of course, going to Cassadine Island during May sweeps on General Hospital
is going to be more than just a simple trip. It sounds like Helena will be back for the big Nurse s Ball,
which is the perfect time for the drama to heat up in Port Charles. Spencer Cassadine is also supposed
to be in town for the ball. Fans are excited to see the little boy return but hope that he is safe with

  • 2. Tommy Douglass Religion Being a Baptist preacher, Tommy Douglas was a religious man. His religion ruled many choices in his early life. Douglas would spend every Sunday in the Weyburn church preaching the gospel, and on the weekdays, he would do what he could to help the suffering of poor. As at the time, the great economic depression had it s grip on Saskatchewan. Furthermore, Tommy Douglas was also a pragmatist. Instead of thinking on the ideals, he thought practically. He was a calculating man. Many people despised his views, not his religious views, but his political ones. As a member of the Cooperative Commonwealth Foundation and later the New Democratic Party, he was a social democrat or socialist . A lot of citizens thought the government would fall under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shortly after, he moved to Weyburn, Saskatchewan. At that time he witnessed all the suffering the people in the province were facing due to the great depression. Tommy Douglas felt something had needed to be done, and so he decided that politics was the way. 1933, Tommy Douglas had joined the Cooperative Commonwealth Foundation (CCF), a socialist political party in Canada. Which later became the New Democratic Party (NDP). During the 1934 Saskatchewan elections, he was unsuccessful, but he did not give up. At the 1935 federal election, he ran as a member of the CCF. This time he was successful. During his time in Parliament, he spent much of the time advocating for civil liberties and such that others did not agree with. Tommy Douglas built a reputation as a witty debater. In 1944, Tommy Douglas decided to resign from the Parliament and run for the Saskatchewan general election. He spent the next 17 years as premier. His most notable achievement as premier, was the establishment of a government funded medical care plan. 1961, Douglas resigned as premier to lead the NDP. Lots were accomplished in his lifespan, but he did not live forever. Tommy Douglas passed away in 1986 due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Living On Mars People will be living on Mars by 2031, but where is the next place we will colonize? When you think about the Earth what do you think of? The ocean? The grass? The sky? What about all the pollution that humans have put on the Earth? Why do we live on Earth? We as humans are fully capable of going to other planets. Heck, we have done it, but what about beyond those planets, and beyond the entire universe. What is out there? There is a many number of possibilities. There could be other universes, or maybe there is nothing out there. We don t know. If there are other universes or other dimensions, we might be able to inhabit them. They could have some new element to cure cancer, or simply another fresh water source, but we won t know unless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are the 10 dimensions of the superstring theory. Evidence of the Multiverse and Multiverse Theories There are 5 main theories on why the multiverse is possible. The first theory is that we don t know the shape of space time. Space time could be flat and stretch on forever causing multiple universes. If this theory is true there would be universes that repeat themselves because atoms can only be put together so many ways (Howell). The second theory is eternal inflation. This states that some areas of space stop inflation, but some continue to get larger, so our universe could be a bubble sitting in a network of bubble universes. In this theory the laws of physics could be different for each universe because they aren t linked (Howell). The third theory is that multiple universes can follow the theory of quantum mechanics, and daughter universes. If you follow the laws of probability it suggests that for every outcome that could come from your decisions there would be a range of universes, each with a different outcome from your decisions (Howell). The fourth theory of the multiverse is that of mathematical universes. This theory suggests that the structure mathematics could change depending on which universe you are in (Howell). The last multiverse theory goes back to the fact that spacetime could be flat. But, the number of possible particle configuration in multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Equipment Depreciation Purchasing equipment is one of the biggest expenses that small businesses and start ups face. The IRS allows you deduct most or all of these expenses. This in turn helps you recoup the cost associated with running your business. Moreover, by taking this deduction when you prepare your tax return, it lowers your overall tax bill. In some cases, especially for small businesses, the deductions could result in a refund. There are different ways to expense business equipment when filing taxes, which can often lead to confusion. If you re unsure how the deductions will affect your business, hiring a tax accountant is a good idea. Mistakes or miscalculations when filing your tax return could trigger an IRS audit. A professional can lessen the stress and time constraints during the tax preparation season. Types of Equipment Your Can Expense Business equipment is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, furniture, office equipment, vehicles, computers, business software, and machinery would all fall under equipment depreciation. These tangible items for your business are considered capital assets since they are used to make a profit. Understanding Section 179 Deduction Under Section 179, the IRS allows you to deduct the full price of the equipment you purchased or leased during the year. By taking this deduction, you are essentially deducting the full cost of the equipment from your company s gross income. Your company must have a taxable income before you can use the 179 deduction. Additionally, there is a cap on the deduction set at $500,000 that you can claim. There is also a maximum of $2,010,000 for business equipment expenses during the year that Section 179 is claimed. Most small business will not spend this amount on equipment during the early years of being in business, which is why this deduction is so valuable. Section 179 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Decision Of Drop The Atomic Bomb The decision to drop the atomic bomb, made by President Truman, was largely influenced by political factors rather than military factors. Traditionalist historians argue from the military perspective that the bomb was used to end the war as quickly as possible and with as minimal causalities as possible. Revisionist historians, on the other hand, argue the political perspective where they believe that the bomb was dropped as a diplomatic tool to intimidate the rising superpower that was the Soviet Union. In 1945, there was little reason to doubt the traditionalist perspective; however, in retrospect, with the evidence now gathered and available, it was very likely there were other strategic reasons that played a larger role in the decision Truman had made. By observing the historical timeline, the Cold War began shortly after World War II. Truman was aware of the rising power of the USSR and the threat of the spread of communism into Europe and Asia. The fear of this threat was what likely influenced him and Congress to use the bomb more so than the desire to end the war more efficiently. From the perspective of the traditionalists, Truman was more strongly influenced by a desire to end the war immediately, and the desire of the American people to extract some measure of revenge on Japan. The Unites States, before the dropping of the bomb, had suffered an unprovoked attack from Japan at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The Japanese destroyed most of the American pacific ... • 6. Personal Reflection Of Personal Ethics In The Classroom I am one of the numerous amount of students enrolled in your class and most likely, you have no idea who I am. I am hopeful that this letter will apprise you about my personality, work ethic, and other characteristics. When I was younger, I enjoyed being constantly active; whether that be hanging off the couch while watching T.V. or running around my house yelling incoherent phrases to drive my mother insane, I did it all. One day, I stumbled upon a video of a girl teaching the viewer how to do a skill named the back handspring (a skill where you push off from an upright standing position into vertical back onto your feet to complete a full rotation). In awe, it inspired me to attempt it myself, until I realized it took a lot more to flip backwards and expect to land on your hands without falling onto your face. I can recall myself watching a plethora of these varieties of videos in where people demonstrated how to do different certain skills. I would be fascinated by the idea that you can maneuver your body to do tricks that most people would not dare to attempt. Not long after that, I begged to try out and, to my amazement, ended up making it into what would become my gymnastics team. When I first began, I was not prepared for the amount of work that was required of the individual, both physically and mentally. I remember the first practice I attended was one of my most exhausting. Being a newcomer to such an intense sport, it allowed many, many mistakes. The quote said ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Quotes That Show Bravery In Odysseus Throughout the Odyssey, the Greek hero Odysseus show bravery, which, I think, is the most important trait for a hero to exhibit. The first episode in which Odysseus shows bravery is in the episode New Coasts and Poseidon s son. When Odysseus is stuck in the cave with Polyphemus Odysseus knew that they need to find a way out so they were? going to blind the giant. Odysseus was going to stick a spear into the eye of the giant Polyphemus. Odysseus could have stayed in the back lines and had his men do it for him, but instead he was there to spear the Giant. This shows the trait bravery The Second episode in which Odysseus shows bravery is the episode Sea Perils and defeat. Odysseus had to travel to the land of the dead before Circe would allow ... Feeling the confusion in the room, she took a seat at the corner of the table. Everyone was speaking to one another, trying to understand why they all had been called for a meeting so unexpectedly, leaving Lady Macbeth to sit unaccompanied, the way she enjoyed it. A short man soon came into the room, catching the attention of all the workers, clearly showing the man s authority. • 11. Why I Chose A Nurse For The Interview Process Of Oral History I am currently in my senior year; I am about to graduate with a bachelor s in nursing next semester and I am feeling anxious about what the real world is all about. I am not worried about my skills, expertise, certifications or the demands of registered nurses. I am very concerned about the high and low points of nursing, which is why I chose a nurse for the interview process of oral history. In my perspective, nursing is caring. Nurses help patients attain their best possible health goals. Oral history draws a picture about the working life of nurses through revealing what nurses see as important, providing an idea about the roles of a nurse, showcasing how nurses cope with the most stressful experiences and aiding nursing students with role transition. In this project I also tackle my interview process and possible factors why it is shortened. First, nurses are legally liable to abide by patient privacy making it difficult to penetrate their experiences with patients. As a result, Kiki could not elaborate. Other factors to consider are the teacher student relationship and the formality of a recorded interview, which could alter the conversational atmosphere. Moreover, the lack of interviewees affects the accuracy of oral history as a research methodology. • 12. Dispositional Inference In Research Paper Humans are social thinkers, and therefore, have actions that are influenced by their social situations. Social cognition is how people select, interpret, judge, and store the information they receive from others. Basically, we remember the information we deem important and that means something to us, and use shortcuts to fill in the rest. We utilize these shortcuts to conserve mental effort, to save time and thought, and to manage our self image. One shortcut many individuals use is going off of our current expectations, which can sometimes lead to holding stereotypes (Trope Thompson, 1997) (Kenrick 76). For example, when I went tailgating freshman year, I did this without even realizing it. Although I didn t know the fraternity boys who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, one weekend I witnessed an acquaintance get into a fight downtown. The thoughts of people seeing this probably ranged from thinking this individual was aggressive, to thinking he was a victim. However, knowing this individual as an aggressive, confident guy, I simply made an inference that he started the fight. Surprisingly enough, to me at least, he said that it was the other guy who started the fight, and others agreed. This is an epitome of the correspondence bias improperly using dispositional inferences. This can also be seen in a study by Edward Jones and Victor Harris, 1967. The study participants read essays that were either pro or anti Fidel Castro, and were told that the writers either chose their stance, or were forced to take it. You would think that the participants would judge the individuals who got to choose their side as more strongly biased than those who were simply given a stance. However, the study participants actually paid little attention to their situations, and deemed those who were given a side as strongly biased as well (Kenrick 78). Galen Bodenhausen showed in his experiments (1990) that someone who is considered a morning person is more likely to use cognitive shortcuts at night, and vice versa. Being a morning person, I can definitely see this apply in my life. I tend to be exhausted when nighttime comes, so I use shortcuts to to save as much energy as possible. Since I ve been aware of this, I ve taken note of it, and try to be more mindful of these shortcuts at night. • 13. Summary Of Bacchae By Euripides And Oresteia In this paper, I intend to describe the inner working of the household in Greek civilization on three levels: family, city, and cosmos of gods. To achieve this goal, we will look into Bacchae by Euripides, and Oresteia by Aeschylus. Bacchae shows the workings of the house of Cadmus, a royal family, whose actions directly affect their city. This family tree includes a god, and is strongly affected by the will of the cosmos, through Dionysus. Oresteia is a play of three parts. We see the families dysfunctional interactions, and how they impact the city over time. We also see how the gods have an influence on these characters lives throughout the events that happen. Overall these interactions lead to the undermining of Greek civilization through death and destruction. Bacchae is a good example of the three levels of the household. Starting with the level of family we see the flawed family dynamic in the house of Cadmus. Cadmus has four daughters. Semele is the mother of Dionysus, and Agave is the mother of Pentheus. Semele claimed the father of her child was Zeus, but the rest of her family did not believe her tales, calling her a liar. No one in the family, or city for that matter, believed Dionysus status was true, disrespecting him and his followers. Dionysus say Pentheus ...pays no attention to me in his prayers. For that I ll show him I am a true god. (Bacc.46 48) Dionysus does just that, showing them the truth in the worst way possible, enacting his revenge by having Agave unknowingly rip her own son, Pentheus, apart with the help of her sisters. Agave says she d like to go far away from the curse of Kithairon....where there s no display of a thyrus to remind me. (Bacc.1384 1386) She know Dionysus has defeated them, and her son is dead, she wants only to get away from the pain. This royal family is torn apart, murderer, exiled, and turned to serpents at the hands of one of their own relatives because they had no respect for him or his followers. The fact that the family is of royal blood mean what happens to them affects not just the inner workings of the family, but the city state as a whole, or the second level of the household. When the city did not believe Dionysus, instead backing the beliefs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movie based around a young man named Harold Chasen, and an old woman Maude. Harold seems to have a bizarre psychological fascination with death. While Maude is also interested in death; she enjoys living as well and has lived her life to the fullest. Both are brought together while attending funerals simply because they enjoy them. Maude begins to influence and change Harold s perceptions and attitudes about life. Maude shares many of these ideas and beliefs with Harold, teaching him to dance, play the banjo, and just enjoy being alive, not dead. Harold was unaware that when he met Maude, she had planed all along to end her life at the age of eighty. She says several times throughout the movie, Did you know I ll be eighty on Saturday . Her decision to commit suicide shows that Maude feels she has done her part in helping Harold be a happier person and has succeeded in teaching him how to love and enjoy life, which are qualities he did not possess prior to their meeting. She makes him understand this when, after he tells her he loves her, she says, Go and love some more. After Maude s death, Harold drives his car over a cliff in another attempt to make people believe he is dead again. Harold walks away playing his banjo and dancing, things that Maude had taught him. By driving his car over the cliff to make people think he is dead again makes Harold happy since he enjoys being dead, but the banjo and Harold s dancing are symbols of the effects of his relationship with Maude. These signify that Harold has grown due to his relationship with Maude and will use the advice that Maude has given him in order to live a more fulfilling and enjoyable life. Because this film is so influenced by it s time, it seems appropriate that the director used the music of Cat Stevens. Cat Stevens music defined a generation, and Harold and Maude are no exception. Form, in poetry, can be understood as the physical structure of the poem: the length of the lines, their rhythms, their system of rhymes and repetition (The Poetry Archive, 2005 2010). As it was mentioned previously, the most interesting part about this poem is the We . Gwendolyn is a very enjoyable sounding writer. DATA When light passes from one medium to another, air to water for example, part of the light is reflected at the boundary and part of the light gets bent as it passes on to the new medium. The bending of this light is referred to as refraction. A sketch of this is shown below. In this example, n1 is the index of refraction for air. The index of refraction for water is n2. The three men stumble upon each other while each are hiking to their own activities and decide to walk together, conversing to pass the time. The men each give their descriptions of the different aspects of their own sport, with Piscators being so eloquent and full of depth that Venator decides to tag along and fish with him for multiple days. Auceps leaves shortly after and the book dives into the explanations, thoughts, and actions of Piscator as he shows his masterful art of angling to Venator. • 26. A Summary Of The Bhagavad Gita I have found the book The Bhagavad Gita to be very appealing. I have never been exposed to the Indian culture but while reading this book it seems that they have similar beliefs than we do, just quoted differently. Detachment was one of their practices I found interesting. Reasons to be detached is greatly explained in this quote, Those who are compulsively attached to the results of action cannot really enjoy what they do; they get downcast when things do not work out and cling more desperately when they do (55). This quote is simply saying that we as a whole are not focused on what we should be doing, we only focus on what we are doing to be perfect. If we act without worrying we may even be able to enjoy ourselves instead. Even though detachment is practiced in the Indian culture, everyone should practice it. In the religion I participate in, we tend to put value on everything. Some people may not want to read the Gita or practice any of their practices due to the fact that it may not be their religion. I feel that you should really view certain things without judging. I would consider practicing detachment in order to help ease tension. When you are attached to someone or somethings, anything can happen to it which cares you to feel a certain way. However, if you were practicing detachment, you wouldn t really care if something happens to it. You also wouldn t be as hurt; this is when you find yourself thinking everything happens for a reason. Blocher is a law professor at Duke University. His academic interests include constitutional law, the First and Second Amendments, capital punishment, and property rights. Blocher notes a particular argument: the death penalty must be constitutional because the Fifth Amendment clearly allows it. However, Blocher takes a side on the issue and explains reasons why this is not necessarily true. One of those reasons is that the death penalty was allowed and constitutional at the time the Constitution was being written. The author comes to the conclusion that there may be good arguments for the constitutionality of the death penalty, but the Fifth Amendment is not one of them. Throughout the article Blocher explains his reason for believing that the Fifth Amendment does not supply enough evidence to support the use of the death penalty. However, Blocher also includes evidence that supports opinions that people who disagree with him may have. He writes: Justice Scalia argued that the Fifth Amendment afforded a textual basis for the capital punishment s continued constitutionality: The reason is obvious: It is impossible to hold unconstitutional that which the Constitution explicitly contemplates. Analysis Of Paris By Night While Brassaï s three portraits may initially appear harmless, within the context of Paris by Night as well as the culturally gender roles of the society of which they exist in, they take on a more repressive rather than honorific role. Arguably, the sense of wonder they create about women who break the gender norms of the time may give them some honorific functions as well. As Sekula explains, photography welded the honorific and repressive functions together (Sekula 9). However, because very portrait implicitly took its place within a social and moral hierarchy Brassaï s photographs still depict a group of people left to socialize and form communities in the dark, underside of Parisian society (Sekula 9). Their repressive role is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The full collection of Paris by Night further establishes queer women as criminals, therefore, adding to the repressive nature of their photographs. Photos #7,8, and 9 are examples of the other photos in Brassaï s archive Paris at Night of which the previous photographs of queer women are grouped with. Photograph #7, titled An Opium Den, a Female Habituee , shows a woman who is smoking opium out of a pipe. This photo has limited light, and the majority of it is dark black. Her face and hands are lit up enough to see what she is doing, though most of her body is lost in the darkness, signifying to the audience the dark and dangerous nature of the opium den. Photo #8 titled Washing up in a Brothel shows what the audience assumes is a prostitute cleaning up in a brothel. The lack of privacy and gritty room show the absence of respectable social status as well as the criminality of the prostitutes actions. Furthermore, seeing a private moment such as cleaning one s self adds to the idea that this collection is revealing the secretive, underground side of Paris which reinforces the idea that the subjects are doing something wrong. Photo #9 shows a man looking through a mirror at someone who is undressing. Titled Mirrored Wardrobe in a Brothel , the well groomed hair and neat, clean clothing of the man signifies he is likely the customer at the brothel, and the person undressing the reflection is a prostitute. • 33. How Varying Enzyme Concentrations Affect Absorbance Over... How Varying Enzyme Concentrations Affect Absorbance Over Time in Potato Homogenate Mixture Haille Armstrong November 17, 2015 Biology 155 Laboratory Tuesdays 6pm Lab Partners: Kayla, Morel, Ryan Abstract Saturation of substrates was a phenomenon that was observed in Part II of the experiment. This was referenced from later in the discussion. When the enzyme activity from this experiment was compared to Enoch s work, (Enoch) it was stated that he found that in certain liver cells of rats, enzyme activity would stop suddenly. The study proposed that the lower Enoch dropped the substrate concentration within these cells, the less activity he could record. This proved to both his data and to the date from this experiment that the substrate was necessary for catalysis, because as enzyme concentration rose, substrates bound more quickly to the active site of an enzyme. Once all substrates in the mixture were changed to products, the enzyme was stationary because it had no more substrate to catalyze. This meant that in order for the reaction to continue, substrate concentration had to increase. Introduction To understand how and why the experiment was performed, one must understand what enzymes and substrates are. Enzymes are defined as proteins that are capable of speeding up a chemical reaction by reducing the amount of activation energy needed to catalyze that reaction (Raven, Johnson and Mason 2014). Enzymes regulate these biochemical processes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To Organize or Not to Organize Essay Running head: Organize To Organize or Not to Organize Kim McFerrin Professor Morgan HRM 534 January 26, 2013 ORGANIZE Abstract In 1902, Target s founder George Dayton opened his first store Dayton Dry Goods Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota. • 35. Gonzales V. Jr. GONZALES v. CARHART, CHRISTINA GOTTFRIED, February 19, 2015, ISSUE #4 FACTS: in 1973 with the passing of Roe v. Wade, women were guaranteed, under a right to privacy in which the woman has the right to choose whether or not to get an abortion, however, this right was not confirmed to be absolute. Nearly 20 years later, in the case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the central holdings of Roe v. Wade were reaffirmed, by providing limits in which federal and state governments can regulate abortion. Unfortunately, conflict arose between Casey and Roe, when trying to ensure the woman still has a right to choose, which lead to allowing a prohibition of late term abortions, unless the health of the mother was at stake. Next, in 2000, the case of Stenberg v. Carhart forced the court to consider a Nebraska state law that was passed banning late term abortions and whether the statute was unconstitutional, which it was found to be, because the statute did not include an exception for the health of the mother and that the language used was so broad that it burdened a woman s right to choose. Then, in 2007, the case of Gonzales v. Carhart raised the issue once again on a federal law that had been passed, the Partial Birth Ban Act of 2003. The lower courts claimed it to be unconstitutional because of the lack of exception for the health of the mother. This Act however, was found to be constitutional and The Supreme Court decided to look once again at the precedent, under stare decisis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
