The Hypocrisy of Religion in Moby Dick Essay
The Hypocrisy of Religion in Moby Dick
Stubb decides to give Old Fleece a lecture on religion after waking him to complain about his
overcooked whale steak. Not only does Stubb ask Fleece to preach to the sharks who are making a
considerable din eating the dead whale chained to the ship, but he compares Fleece s inability to
correctly cook a whale steak to Fleece s un Christian ways. This passage is an excellent example of
the theme of the hypocrisy of religion in Moby Dick.
Before Stubb calls on Fleece, Ishmael compares the actions of the shark to the actions of man. He first
compares Stubb to the sharks: Nor was Stubb the only banqueter on whale s flesh that night. Mingling
their mumblings with his own mastications, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this context, humans are no more civilized or refined than sharks.
However, Stubb s lines tell us that he believes otherwise. After he complains to Fleece about the
overdone steak, he orders Fleece to deliver his message to enjoy the whale but keep quiet while
indulging: now then, go and preach to them! (___). Fleece sullenly obeys, and tells the sharks to stop
dad dam noise dare (___). The irony begins here when Stubb steps and tells Fleece that he s doing it
all wrong, that you don t convert sinners by swearing. Stubb s classification of the sharks as sinners
becomes hypocritical, for as Ishmael and Fleece remark, Stubb himself is a sinner.
Fleece begins his sermon again, this time without the profanity.
Your woraciousness, fellow critters. I don t blame ye so much for; dat is natur, and can t be helped; but
to gobern dat wicked natur, dat is de pint. You is sharks, sartin; but if you gobern de shark in you, why
den you be angel; for all angel is not ing more dan de shark well goberned (___).
Fleece is saying that everyone has a wicked nature, but if one can control that nature, they can be
angels. Stubb completely misses this point of this warm moment; his comment that s Christianity,
seems more like a praise of Fleece s ability to refrain from swearing instead of a realization that
Fleece is saying there is good in everyone, regardless of the religious affiliation one is labeled.

Correlation Between Dietary Sugar Intake And Risk For Cancer
The body requires sugar (Espat, 2015). However, there is recent speculation that sugar can cause
cancer. More than one million people in the United States (US) get cancer each year (American
Cancer Society, 2016). Most Americans eat more than double the recommended daily intake of sugar
each day (Espat, 2015). According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015 2020, individuals
should not consume more than 10% of their calories from sugar (US Department of Agriculture,
2016). While increased sugar intake can lead to other issues, such as obesity, which is associated with
cancer, diabetes and cancer occur together more often than would be expected by chance alone
(Oncology Nutrition, 2016).
The purpose of this study is to provide additional information on a topic that should be of great
importance to the public. Everyone should be informed of preventable factors that can be linked to an
increased risk of cancer. This study will explore the correlation between dietary sugar intake with risk
for cancer. Many experts argue over the relation of sugar and cancer, and very little research has been
done on the topic. The University of Texas: MD Anderson Cancer Center associates obesity, a result of
high sugar diets, to be the actual correlating variable between cancer and sugar (Espat, 2015).
However, the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine (Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, 2012)
reports that elevated blood sugar levels lead to mutations in DNA, which

Smell And Odor And Emotion
INTRODUCTION
Often, one of the most overlooked of the five senses is the ability to smell. Living things use it every
day from figuring out what the best scent is to eat the most delicious food to figuring out what
perfume makes us the happiest (and potentially, the most attractive to others). However, smell is more
than just the stench someone gives off. In fact, odor can trigger a variety of emotions. To begin the
discussion on the relationship between odor and emotion, one must define what an odor is. More than
just a sense, smell consists of molecules that recognized by olfactory receptors and must have a
specific concentration (Yantis, 2014). With much research, a relationship between memory and odor
has existed and has led to broader findings about odor and other components. According to a 2009
study, a relationship between odor and mood exists (Croy et al., 2011). However, research done
regarding odor and emotion is a fairly recent interest and has gained more attention over the last few
years. According to the American Psychological Association, an emotion is a complex pattern of
changes, including physiological arousal, feelings, cognitive processes, and behavioral reactions,
made in response to a situation perceived to be personally significant (APA, n.d.).
BACKGROUND: MEMORY COMPONENT A key piece of the odor emotion relationship comes
from the ability to remember odors over time. Odor and memory have been studied at great extent and
tends to overshadow the

A Research Study On Data Analysis
The qualitative research for the study will be driven by using tools such as excel spreadsheets and data
analysis software that provides a quality control and accuracy for the results obtained from the
participants. The researcher will be utilizing two elements of data analysis validity according to
Creswell described by Sampson, J (2012), congruence and accuracy:
Congruence involves providing a rational that shows how the data analysis method for qualitative
research and fits the questions being asked or the hypotheses for qualitative research. The description
of the rationale for using various data analysis methods should help the readers determine if the
analytical techniques are appropriate for the research design and the measures utilized to represent the
variables in the case study.
Accuracy involves providing evidence that the analytical techniques used in the research provide
correct answers to the research question being asked or the hypotheses being posed. This process
establishes the accuracy of data analysis helps the reader to judge whether or not the findings obtained
in the study could be trusted.
The researcher role in this process is an exceptional and significant role in the process of qualitative
research, which is to present a new platform for the dual enrollment program to provide readiness
skills to help students with work life balance when students transition to college while working.
According to Cech, E Wendt, B (2009), the development

Biblical View On Homosexuality And Religion
Biblical view on Homosexuality
In the bible God divinely established the institution of marriage, and this is seen in the garden of Eden
during creation. Marriage was a special gift to man from a loving God before the fall that led to evil
and pervasion entering the spiritual world of man. Marriage was designed by our creator to give
satisfaction to a person s deepest longings for intimacy, love, appreciation and care. The views of
marriage between Christians and Jews are fundamentally different and show the different ways that
they view the world in relation to how they interpret their own doctrine and how these views are
changing over time.
According to the Christian doctrine, reasons why people get married and traditional marriages are
becoming diminished at a faster rate than ever as the culture changes. This is very true for
contemporary culture, law, and society. A growing influence in secular ideologies and practice are
undermining biblical standards in family relations and sexual morality. Marital unfaithfulness, spousal
abuse, sex before marriage, cohabitation, pornography, and promiscuity; these among other liberated
lifestyles of married couples are bringing down the intuition of marriage. Moreover, alternative
sexualities like homosexuality included and other varieties of transgender identities are becoming
increasingly mainstream. In the course of years, the strict Christian community and Orthodox Judaism
have responded to this rapidly changing landscape

Comparison of the Tempest and Forbidden Planet Essay

ENGL 1000P2

Morbius Fatal Folly
As pointed out by Merrell Knighten in his essay called The Triple Paternity of Forbidden Planet, the
main difference between Shakespeare s The Tempest and the 1956 science fiction adaptation
Forbidden Planet (referred to as FP) is the use and control of power. In The Tempest, Prospero knows
what power he holds through the use of his books and spells, and ultimately uses these powers to
restore order to the island. However, in forbidden Planet, Morbius powers are unknown to him and
ultimately lead to his demise. This essay will show how Morbius may be considered a more disastrous
character than Prospero due to his lack of realization of the power which ... Show more content on

For Miranda s lover Ferdinand, the film inserts Commander Adams who is in fact the leader of the
rescue expedition sent to relieve Dr. Morbius and his supposed companions. There are no relations
between the film and the play with regards to Morbius fellow colonizers of Altair 4, but this has to do
with the fact that the film was a sci fi adaptation. The drunken butler Stephano is countered in the film
with the Tennessee bourbon sloshing space cook. The character of Caliban resonates in the film by use
of the Id monster, and finally Ariel is engrossed through the character of Robby the Robot. A closer
reading of some of the characters in FP will reveal parallels outlined by Campos. Campos shines light
on the fact that [Prospero and Morbius] are figures that, isolated from the rest of mankind, have
devoted their lives to the study of some books which have granted them an extraordinary, almost
supernatural power (Campos, 285). The main connections between the two are their utilization of
science and magic. As pointed out by Campos, the film gives a clear implication that science becomes
the magic of the future (286). This statement seems to be truthful as in Shakespeare s time magic
would be thought to be no different from the scientific breakthroughs of our time. For example a
Shakespearean audience would marvel at the strides science has taken in the modern day, such as the
utilization of electricity.

Essay about Ray Charles Robinson
Ray Charles Robinson
Ray Charles Robinson, more commonly known as Ray Charles (to avoid confusion with boxer Sugar
Ray Robinson), was born in the southern city of Albany, GA on September 23, 1930. He was a
prolific, multi talented singer, pianist, bandleader, and composer who, when on stage captivated his
audience not only by his musical ability, but also because he was a blind, African American man. He
was given the nickname the Genius for his capability of combining the music of gospel, jazz, pop,
country and rhythm and blues (R B), known as soul music.

About a year later, in 1951, Charles recorded his first hit song, Baby, Let Me Hold Your Hand. Charles
musical style was heavily influenced by Nat King Cole and Charles Brown. But he was able to do
even more with his music, and more or less created a whole new musical genre, especially after
meeting musical mogul Quincy Jones, who took Charles under his wing. He drew mainstream,
national attention with his performance of I Got a Woman and Hallelujah, I Love Her So, fusing
gospel with R B and jazz. The group had a few million seller records, and with this boost in his career,
Charles was able to attain his own record deal with Atlantic Records in 1954. In 1955, Charles formed
his own band, frequently backed by a group of female gospel style singers known as the Raelettes,
with whom he traveled for many years. In 1959, Charles recorded What d I Say which became his
own first million dollar seller. Soon after, he left Atlantic Records for ABC Records because he felt
that they wanted him to strictly be an R B performer and weren t willing to grow with him and his
music.
By the mid 1960 s, after fighting a long, uphill battle to end his seventeen year addiction to heroin,
Charles finally regained control over his life. He started his own record label, Tangerine (later known
as Crossover), and recorded some of his most famous songs Georgia on My Mind, I Can t Stop

Philip Zimbardo is known for his famous prison experiment that revealed some important facts about
human nature. This type of experiment had never been done before. The Stanford prison experiment
was designed to find out whether the brutality reported among guards in American prisons was due to

Zimbardo was influenced by the Milgram experiment, which was a study of the power of the situation.

The Holocaust By Elie Wiesel
Thesis Statement: The hardships that Elie Wiesel faced in the concentration camps lead him to lose
faith, until after when realizing it was crucial to keep faith in God despite the horrendous events of the
Holocaust. What God would let his people be burned, suffocated to death, separated from their
families, and starved to death? Many people persecuted and sent to concentration camps questioned
this thought. It was near impossible to keep faith at this time of torture. They felt as if God had
abandoned his people, left to suffer the cruel events of the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel grew up as a faithful
and deeply spiritual young person. For a person of his age, he was greatly curious by his Jewish faith,
he pursued Moishe the Beadle to deepen his spiritual understanding. Upon experiencing the torture of
the Holocaust, Elie Wiesel lost his faith completely. He found it impossible to believe that a God could
allow his people to experience such torture. Upon surviving the Holocaust Elie Wiesel realized that
faith is crucial to surviving without losing character. The hardships that Elie Wiesel faced in the

Is Ridley Scott Achieved A Meaningful Ending Of Thelma And...
Has Ridley Scott achieved a meaningful ending in Thelma and Louise?
What makes a meaningful film ending? Firstly characters in the film need to be taken into
consideration. The easiest way to assess this is to look at the protagonists. Did he or she get to
overcome their personal issues, or are they still bothered by them? Ridley Scott, the director of
Thelma and Louise creates a meaningful ending which features the suicide of the two protagonists
Thelma and Louise. They are fugitives on the run from the U.S law after Louise shot a man who tried
to rape Thelma. In the end, these two women were cornered by police, as a result, they drive off the
Grand Canyon to their deaths over the choice of surrendering. Also, the ending is more meaningful as
their fate led them to the Grand Canyon abolishing Thelma and Louise s plan of escaping to Mexico.
As these two protagonists are taken into consideration, in the end, Scott suggests that their suicide is
more meaningful because at the end they overcome their personal issues. In the same degree, Scott
illustrates that if Thelma and Louise were to escape to Mexico or Surrender their personal struggles
could have paralysed their lives.
The director creates a meaningful ending by suggesting that escaping to Mexico is not a solution for
Thelma and Louise to overcome their personal struggles. This is achieved by getting the audience to
question what good could result from escaping. In the beginning of the final scene, they are driving

it only depicted employee salaries that were $100,000 or above, the sample was restricted to salaries
equal to or above this value. The performance data was drawn from the Hospital Report Research
Collaborative: Acute Care for Three Years. The sample purposely used acute care hospitals of varying
sizes over a time span of three years (2005, 2006, 2007). This data was then combined with the
corresponding hospital s CEO compensation for each of the previous years. Salaries of CEOs were
intentionally looked at from the prior year since changes implemented by the CEO and their impact on
performance measurements would follow thereafter. Overall, the study consisted of 261 CEO hospital
year observations in a sample of 103 acute care nonprofit hospitals. The control variables for the study

Redwood Forest Observation Essay
In this essay I will be explaining to you three things that I have learnt from presentations during this
inquiry. Here are the three presentations that I will be talking about. Mountain biking in the Redwood
forest by Moss Stanford. Prisons by Tahuriwakanui, Thomas Poysden and Hoani Lawrence. And
economic cars by Matt Crockett. I will be Talking about these topics because I found them interesting
and I have some interesting information about them. The way I found out this information was by
taking notes while I was listening to them present to the whole class. The first one I will be talking
about is Moss s MTB Project. In Moss s Inquiry he was talking about Mountain Biking in the
Redwood Forest. Through out his presentation I learnt that 30% of mountain biking trails are in the
forest. I found this interesting because I have only rode my bike in the forest had haven t yet found a
MTB trail that is not in the forest. I think that their are not many trails in the forest because the forests
have been logged for their valuable wood. I also found it interesting how some people see a sign
saying that this trail is closed due to logging . This really stupid because you can get badly hurt by
debri on the trail and falling trees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through out their presentation I learnt that prisoners sneak mobile phones into the prison to take
footage of fights. The way they sneak their phones into prisons is, they take them apart and hide them
in the heel of their shoes. The reason they take them apart is so that they can fit. And when the guards
aren t looking, the prisoners organise a fight. They then get recorded and put of the social media. I
think a good solution to this would be to check their shoes or wave a metal detector over their whole
body before they walk inside the

For at least the past four years, California has been in a drought. Since it has been so long of a
drought, officials are finally starting to encourage people to diminish their usage of water. When the
encouragements are not working, they use force and statewide restrictions are put into place. In an
article titled ¨The Wrong Way to Think about California Water¨ by Michael Hiltzik, the author rants on
Californians for the amount of water that they use daily, yearly, and constantly. However, the
argument only supports one side. Nowhere did they mention how much water Californians have
already cut back when told to reduce how much water they use. The paragraph only criticizes what we
are doing now, other than coming up with reasonable ideas

Christianity And Islam Research Paper
Throughout the entire world there are more than 4,300 different religions that people believe. Within
those 4,300, the four main religions are Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. In the Middle
East, common religions are Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Islam and Christianity are two of the
most practiced religions in the world. While there is a common misconception that they have no
similarities, there are many parallels between the two. To start, the origin of both Christianity and
Islam begin in similar places, but there are many differences between them. Islam began in 7th century
Mecca, Saudi Arabia. In the incident which started it off, Muhammad was visited by the angel

Some places that are sacred to Islam include the city of Mecca, the Kaaba and the Dome of the Rock.
The city of Mecca is important to Muslims because it is said to be the place where God spoke to
Muhammad and where their religion started in the first place. Next, the Kaaba is sacred because it is
the shrine that was built by Abraham as the center of the universe for the Muslims and what they turn
to when they pray each day. In the city of Jerusalem, another sacred sight is located which is the Dome
of the Rock. This was said to be the place where Muhammad journeyed to Heaven from which makes
it a focal point in their religion. While these places are significant to Muslims, places like the Church
of the Holy Sepulchre, Bethlehem, Jerusalem and the Sea of Galilee are sacred to Christians.
Jerusalem is one of the most important and sacred cities to Christians as well as Muslims and Jews. In

Society is Responsible for the Death of Romeo and Juliet...
Imagine yourself, dear reader, transported to Shakespearian Verona, a bustling, peaceful city (aside
from the occasional death or two), with its obligatory social classes going about agreeably (aside from
the occasional brawl or two), and all people happy and successful (aside from the occasional poor
wretch or two). The Verona in which Shakespeare s tragedy Romeo and Juliet takes place in is made
sinister by the deadly consequences than ensue from its strict, unbending society. Romeo and Juliet
paints a tale about two young lovers, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, whose attempts to be
together are cruelly thwarted by society. Society s fixation on honor and disgrace, poverty creating
laws, and austere social roles all have crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At any infraction of honor, men are pushed to duel to the death, or face the dreaded charge of
cowardliness. Indeed, Tybalt, bound by honor to his family, is ready to slay Romeo even at Romeo s
tiny misdemeanor of attending the Capulet party: What, dares the slave / Come hither covered with an
antic face / To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? / Now, by the stock and honor of my kin / To strike
him dead I hold it not a sin. (1. 5. 63 67) Soon after this scene, Tybalt duels with Mercutio in place of
Romeo, and Mercutio falls dead. Obligated to avenge his friend s death, Romeo fights with Tybalt,
and strikes him dead. This results in Romeo s banishment, which, of course, leads to the series of
hasty plans that end in his and Juliet s deaths. Another reason that society is responsible for Romeo
and Juliet s deaths lies in its unjust, poverty creating laws. When Romeo believes Juliet dead (she is
actually asleep), he kills himself with poison, which in turn leads to Juliet s death when she sees him
dead. However, In Mantua, the Italian city to which Romeo is banished, sale of poison is illegal. So,
dear reader, do tell where he could possibly buy poison in a city whose laws prevent potion makers
from making money. Romeo had the same answer, recalling a desperately poor apothecary about
whom he told himself: An if a man did need a poison now / Whose sale is present death in Mantua /

The Success Of FC Barcelona
Even before they changed the football landscape by inventing the tiki taka style of play, FC Barcelona
have been known for their likable brand of football that always seemed to produce results. During
their long and immensely successful history, they have won 23 La Liga titles, 27 Copa del Rey
trophies, five Champions Leagues and four Cup Winners Cups. As one of the richest and most popular
clubs in the world, they can afford to be owned and financed exclusively by their own supporters.
Since its inception, Barcelona has been a major symbol of Catalonia and its culture, as evidenced by
their motto, which says More than a club.
In 1899, football pioneer Joan Gamper decided he wanted to form a football club. After eleven other
enthusiasts responded to his newspaper advert, the dream became a reality and Barcelona was born.
The new club started off well enough; after losing to Bizkaya in the final of the inaugural Copa del
Rey in 1902, Barcelona went on to win the competition eight times between then and 1928. The
following year, they won the inaugural La Liga before entering a period of decline due to the ongoing
political conflicts in the country, which eventually resulted in the oubreak of the Spanish Civil War.

to spread religious or political idea. They were often known as an early form of protest in literature. A

Artemisia as a Feminist
Nanette Salomon, a very well known feminist writer, wrote the article, Judging Artemisia: A Baroque
Woman in Modern Art History. The article opens up with a discussion about the 2001 2 exhibition of
Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi: Father and Daughter Painters in Baroque Italy. The author explains
that three things are unusual here: the fact that two famous artists were presented at the same time, that
they were related as father and daughter, and the fact that the woman was better known than the man.
Her intent in this article is to look at the effects of this trope (figure of speech) in the past and in the
present.
Salomon argues that this comparison technique has been the main feature or art historical analysis. It
puts a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author also talks about the story of Susanna and the Elders. Apparently Artemisia Gentileschi
painted three versions of this biblical story at three different stages in her life, 1610, 1622, and 1649.
The author did a comparison on the three Susanna paintings and she argues that it is noticeable that
the abstracting qualities of the 1610 painting change its concept or meaning from one form of story
telling to another. She argues that the abstract form of story telling serves the purpose of finding a
visual equivalent to the deafening silence . She explains that the 1622 Susanna and the Elders speaks a
different language, and so does the 1649 version.
Nanette Salomon emphasizes that there are different ways to make sense of the changes in Artemisia s
three Susannas . One explanation may be that Artemisia s work show progressive naturalism or
realism which can be attributed to her development as an artist.
Judging Artemisia Gentileschi is a practice that is believed to have begun at the same time as aesthetic
judgment, back in the time of Vasari in the late sixteenth century.
To me, those are the main points of the article by Nanette Salomon. I think that she made a very good
historical and psychological approach on the subject. The strength of this article is that she provides a
lot of historical facts, and blends it together with her words and opinion.

Personal Narrative-My Journey To Granada Theater
It was about two hours until the doors opened and I was sitting in staring at my television, appearing

spending money in case I wanted to get a t shirt or something but my Playstation s grip on me was as

Contradictions In Othello Research Paper
In the book Othello written by William Shakespeare, there are many characters who seem to show
contradiction in the way they act and talk. Contradiction is when there is a series of stamens and ideas
that oppose to one another. There are also character pairs who are contradictions. Shakespeare puts
contradictions in all his plays to make ether intensity of the play arise. Usually contradiction is found
with in a topic, in a conversation, and in pairs however in this play Shakespeare shows contradiction
with in a character. More specifically Othello. Othello is a complex and a contradictory character and

contradictions. Othello is a character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just like the love between Othello and Desdemona. They show contradictions in many ways through
their love, as each character sees them differently just like Iago and Rodrigo. Because they don t like
Othello they focus a lot on his skin colour while the rest of the characters especially the duke sees
Othello as a great, brave military leader. The people like Iago, Rodrigo, Emilia and Barbanzio all look
at Desdemona as a pure white dove and when they see Othello they think of him as animal like a
Barbary Horse (1:1:112). The other contradiction shown in their relationship is that Desdemona went
against the rule that they had back then and choose Othello even though he is black instead of
choosing a white man. This is a big contradiction that is shown because back then that wasn t normal
for people to do that and Desdemona being the sweet innocent girl that people presume her to be

The Virtue Of Silence Essay
THE VIRTUE OF SILENCE
Of all the virtues that most men and women disregard, it is silence. People go about in their everyday
lives not even noticing the beauty of one s quot;inner silence. quot; Try an experiment: Close your
eyes. Tune out the sounds from everything that s surrounding you, and focus on what is going on
inside you. Take a deep breath and just listen. How many inner voices did you hear? Most people do
not even realize the amount of noise that is carried around in the human body. As you can see, even in
the remarkably noisy age we live in, the real noise is on the inside. But even these noises can
dissappear if one wishes. All one needs to do is study one of many religions, such as Buddhism, ...

One has to be able to drown out all sounds so that there is no sound to be heard. It s as though it doesn
t exist.
The Christian and Jewish methods, however, differ greatly. These two separate religions believe that
to go about reaching a state of perfect silence and meditation, one must pray to God. Both of these
religions teach that if a person wanted to drown out the rest of the world, including one s own self,
that person must pray. A meditative prayer where people fall into a trance, allowing only thought to
occur. No sound can penetrate their thoughts. Absolute, utter silence.
Christianity, and mainly Monasticism, believe that silence keeps the heart and soul pure. By not
speaking, one may not taint their lips with quot;evil quot;. Hence, in monasteries, monks take on vows
of silence. They believe that with the help of God they can overcome the urge to speak evil against
anyone else, thus keeping there souls pure. This, however, is much harder than it seems. Jews and
Buddhists do not always need to keep silent. Jews meditate and pray on a weekly basis. Buddhists,
too, don t feel as though they need to take on a full time vow like the monasteries demand. It is
detrimental to a monastic lifestyle that a vow of silence be kept. Its importance is to help a monk
concentrate on his prayers and his love of God. People who disregard this important rule of
monasticism are not tolerated because

The Origin Of Spain s Current Economic Crisis
On the Origin of Spain s current Economic Crisis
The economy of Spain has taken a downturn in 2011 since the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Unlike the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, where Spain was a global empire, modern Spain is facing
a very stagnant economy. Spain s unemployment rate reached a record of 27 percent in 2011. This
shows that more than 1 in 5 Spaniards is struggling to feed their family. Luckily, things had gotten
better. The October 2015 unemployment report shows that the number of those who are not working is

The moors took over Spain in the year 711, starting with the fall of Granada. But the tension between
religious group continue to grow until the rise of the Cid, when the Christian regains full control of
Spain (Poem of the Cid); but even then, Spain s economy was not as great as the fifteen and sixteen
century, because the conflict between between Spaniard of different belief might have slowed down
the trading of goods, which predict Spain s current economic turnover as the country is struggling to
put its people to work.
Spain s historical glory did not prevent it from current economic crisis. Spain was the first global

Spanish empire became the most prominent superpower, dominating most of the world. This allowed
Spanish people at the time to enjoy a cultural golden age during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries;
but this glorious moment did not last longer to prevent Spain s current economic downfall. Despite
suffering an economic downturn, Spanish empire remained the largest in the world until the eighteenth
centuries.
The Civil War causes Spain s global power to drop as their economy decreases, until the day Francisco
Franco took over in 1939. Franco ruled Spain from 1939 until his

Plus Size Women
In my opinion, we need not discuss a reconciliation of sorts regarding the greater degree of acceptance
of plus size women with the parallel emphasis our society continues to place on thinness because I
think that comparison would be based upon approval versus acceptance. My reasoning is this, images
where media now portrays plus size women in a positive light and encourages society to accept plus
size as beautiful, does not encourage/approve of the health problems associated with obesity. We can
find the beauty in all people. Size does not determine whether or not someone is a loving, caring, kind,
or beautiful person; therefore, the mindset that these images should not be accepted due to health
problems is foolish to me. Let us look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, when people feel accepted, they feel better about themselves. Accepting a person
because they are plus size does not necessarily encourage them to live an unhealthy lifestyle. In fact,
these women may feel more confident and actually take the initiative to get active, and not because
they are chasing the need to feel accepted, but because they are less self conscious and able to walk
out in public without feeling inferior due to lowered self esteem. As we know, self esteem influences
consumer behavior (Solomon, 2017). Social media is providing a platform for plus size women to
have a voice. There are so many plus size models and bloggers that have created pages strictly built to
encourage and empower women who may feel like they do not fit society s mode. Social media has
brought about a self acceptance to the masses. It allows consumers to voice their stance, which often
times expresses the way many others feel, and set a tone to make changes. For example, a blogger Jes

Gender Roles In Wuthering Heights Essay
This essay will analyse how gender roles are represented in Bronte s Wuthering Height s by looking at
the characters of Cathy and Heathcliff. By analysing these two characters it will be clear that the
protagonists challenge social conformity during the Victorian period in England. To fully realise this it
is important to first understand what the prescribed roles were that they were challenging. This will be
achieved through close readings of the text and references made to secondary sources to provide
evidence that this opinion has been fully investigated. It will be clear by the end to see that the
characters challenge the roles expected of their sex during this time and together they challenge social

It is the opinion of this essay that the character of Heathcliff evolves a lot more than the character of
Catherine. When we first meet Heathcliff, he was found on the streets of Liverpool by Catherine s
father who then adopts him into the family as one of his own. This would have been a dramatic
change for Heathcliff. Then after experiencing this quality of life until the death of the father he is
then cast into the role of a servant/labourer by Catherine s brother who despises him. Finally, when
Heathcliff hears part of the conversation between Catherine and Nelly, he hears Catherine plans to
marry Edgar Linton as she could never marry Heathcliff. It would degrade me to marry Heathcliff
now . (82) It is here Heathcliff leaves Wuthering Heights and returns three years later, a gentleman of
means and of polite demeanour, not what you would expect from him. Here we can bring back the
point that one s environment dramatically affects one s behaviour. Like Catherine, Heathcliff defies
social norms expected of his gender. After he returns back from travelling having acquired great
wealth and on the surface seems a changed man, he would be accepted into middle class society as he
displays the characteristics expected of him. It is well described in the book to enforce the dramatic

The Importance Of Advertising
Everyday, everywhere we are inundated with advertisements. Whether it be while you are walking
down the street, shopping at the supermarket, or even in the safety of your own home enjoying some
tv in your down time. Advertising, whether it be big or small is everywhere; and in fact there are many
issues with it. Advertising that promotes a service or product in a deceptive way is highly unethical.
This is because it doesn t provide the customer with enough information that they need in order to
make a good, educated decision. And on another note, advertising is manipulative because of the way
it promotes consumption at such a large scale. Some of the main reasons for advertising being
dishonest are because it displays false savings, it exhibits unnecessary upselling and possibly most
importantly, it fuel s wasteful consumerism. The significance of this problem, comes in the form of the
large sums of money people waste on products they don t need and once purchased, realise they don t
want. Frankly it is just too overt to look past.
A way that advertising is deceptive is by showing false savings. Advertising a shocking price cut is a
common marketing tactic, but some businesses inflate their prices beforehand just so they can
advertise the sizable price cut. In effect, the customer does not receive a good deal because the
discount reflects virtual, not actual, savings. Word s such as closeout and clearance are commonly
used by companies, which give consumers the

unlike state owned enterprises. The deteriorating performance and market share of SOEs attracted the
attention of Qian and Lin. In the wave of growing business of various types of enterprises, the large
scaled SOEs could not sustain their profits and constantly need governmental subsidies, a
phenomenon in opposition to the economic trend in the reform era. Many SOEs had to offer their
employees insurances, training, education and health care, deepening the financial burden. Such an
anti development scene would make Lin and Qian oppose the ideas of Rawski and Jefferson. Qian
observes that large scaled state owned enterprises, even though experienced managerial reforms and
ownership reconfiguration, continued to suffer from declining performance, i.e. profitability. The new
corporate organization consisting shareholders, board of directors and supervisory board clashed with
the role of the party committees. In this case, Qian pointed out that the key reason for this failure was
the party s control over the appointment of senior executives of SOEs. The executives politicized
standing overshadowed their role in enhancing the corporate performances. The secretive selection

Essay about Volcom Strategic Audit
Volcom Strategic Audit

Volcom is a manufacturer of Boardsport related clothing and accessories. Based in Velcro Valley south
of Los Angeles the company s core values speak volumes about their marketing and sales goals and
objectives. The Volcom philosophy, stated as, youth against establishment , implies that their aim is, at
the very least, different from normal capitalist Free Trade established ways and means, and their
history highlights the differences. The new Volcom New Future initiative is an example of their sales
and marketing direction. As Derek Sabori, Volcom s senior director of the department of sustainability

Current Situation
Current Performance Although Volcom holds a relatively small market share compared to its
competition: | 2008 | 2007 | 2006 | Volcom | 0.7% | 0.6% | 0.8% | Nike | 8.3% | 8.0% | 7.9% |
Quicksilver | 2.2% | 2.4% | 2.6% | Billabong | 1.9% | 1.6% | 1.7% |
...even in a down turning economy, Volcom s 2008 consolidated revenues increased 24.5% to $334.4
million from 268.6 million in 2007. This portends great things for the future.
Volcom has found, or was founded in (and is nurturing) the boardsport niche in apparel and
accessories. It does not look to grow quickly, but to take advantage of this niche.
It is also expanding the ancillary markets to this niche in both music and video. Music and video have
been a small portion of the Volcom portfolio (about 1% of earnings), but based upon the fact that the
music and video arenas are wonderful marketing tools and that they are making, and not costing,
profit they are worth much more than this 1%. Add to that the fact that at any moment a video or audio
component to catch on and rise to the top. Such an event (or events) would add exponentially to the
bottom line. Between profits and marketing, a star could mean millions added to the net income.
Volcom is also gradually expanding its foreign presence (income from foreign markets up by 125% in
the last 4 years).
As of December 2008, Volcom owns 13 branded retain outlets and

My Love Of Theatre
I have been a performer my entire life, and want to continue to impact those around me through
theater. In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions. My
love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of plays and
musicals can deeply impact an audience. My freshman year I actually performed at my school s
brother school and played Celisse in Godspell. My sophomore year I played Mrs. Harcourt in
Anything Goes, my junior year I was the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this year I was the
Bird Woman in Mary Poppins. My favorite performances, however, is Spring Sing, a student run
production where classes compete for bragging rights. I have been an actor in Spring Sing since my
freshman year and my class hopes to win this year!
Being able to express myself through song, acting, and dance is a form of meditation for me. It is a
time where I am able to completely forget about my own anxieties and focus on the worries of the
character. Roles are static until you make them come alive, and that is where there is room for creative
expression.
My greatest skill is knowing how to improvise on and off stage. Being able to improvise is one of the
most important skills an actor can learn. I have been in improv club since my freshman year of high
school, and truly believe that it has helped me with my communication skills and self confidence.
These classes teach me how to use my environment to my

Annotated Bibliography of Articles about the American Culture
The authors purpose
Philip DeVita and James Armstrong, the authors of this collection, decided to produce this work for
the purpose of understanding ourselves (the title of the introductory remarks). They start by pointing
out the remarkable freshness Alexis de Tocqueville s observation of America in the mid 19th century
offered at the time. They note that concerns for understanding the other have always interested
anthropologists. And this collection, as they argue, is an attempt to understand America as the other by
looking at American culture, society, politics, intellectual traditions, and attitudes from the
perspectives of outsiders.
DeVita and Armstrong emphasize that it is hard for a social scientist to fully understand the
uniqueness and strangeness of one s culture. Growing up within the culture means accepting one s
cultural assumptions for granted. Being closed to the perspectives only outsiders might have, those
who grow up in American culture fail to ask the kind of questions that may reveal more about
America. And this is where, DeVita and Armstrong argue, the essay collection comes in. They asked
anthropologists from numerous Western and non Western countries to share their experiences of
living, observing, and understanding American culture and society. These outsiders express their
wonder and critical insight for understanding aspects of American life Americans normally would not
otherwise see on their own.
Finally, the authors note they want

Elementary School And High School
Class is defined as a group of people who have a similar level of wealth and income. Even though this
ideology is more referred to specific individuals regarding their occupation, education can be
considered to follow this same description. There are educational institutions everywhere, one
elementary school usually in one part of a neighborhood in your hometown. As these schools grown in
number and increase in grade level however, less become established and there tend to be a smaller
amount of high schools within a city compared to elementary or middle. This means that for every 4
or 5 neighborhoods there is 1 high school that is responsible for accepting these residents. High
schools quickly become established in large district areas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How are low income schools different than higher income schools? This is a concerning issue because
if there continues to be a financial difference between educational institutions that affects the quality
of schools, there will be an entire generation of students that will have received a poor education and
have limited opportunities of successfully integrating with society compared to graduates that attained
a higher quality education from a higher income school. This decreases social mobility of low income
school graduates, continues stratification, and may encourage low income graduates to enact in high
risk illegal acts to support themselves and families since they were not properly prepared to be college
ready in high school. Low income schools mainly differ from higher income schools through student
performance in college preparatory exams and behavioral issues/stigmas.
Differences in student performance on college preparatory exams is the first noticeable difference
between low income schools and higher income schools. Bryan Station had a larger percentage of
students that underperformed and scored a lower average mean ACT composite score compared to
Fayette County and Kentucky. The average ACT score of a Bryan Station student is 18.1, compared to
the county average of 21.4 and the state average of 19.1 (Startclass, 2016). Compared to Henry Clay,
this school had a larger percentage of students that scored a significantly

American Cultural Values
When discussing America and its pervasive issue with crime, it is important to note the cultural values
that not only make America but also break it in terms of encouraging criminality and objectivity of
crimes. Furthermore, there are three major cultural values that are held most dear to the American
public: freedom, success, and individualism.
To begin, freedom is at the core of the American culture. In America, freedom can be defined as the
notion that, individuals are guaranteed rights and that those rights can be expanded by the constitution
at any time if needed (Burfeind Westermann, 1991). While in some aspects this cultural value has led
to great advances in individual rights that may not be seen in other nations, it has some down sides
that cause a strain on the American society. For example, because many individuals value freedom and
in particular personal freedom, there is often a disconnect between their definition and reality of
freedom, the governments definition, and of course others. This type of disconnect and road to
eventual criminality can best be represented when discussing one of the major political discussions to
date, Marriage Equality. Some American laws that have passed and were enforced were
unconstitutional at the very nature of their disallowance of American equality for all and citizens who
knew of this used their individual freedom to break this law by practice of civil disobedience.
However, since different sections of American s have

Why Tupac Shakur Is Alive
Tupac Shakur is alive because of how he was in general. Tupac Shakur is a American rapper and actor.
He has a great legacy because of how he use his fame and was the voice of the people;he is a activist
and a role model to me. He is the best selling music artist of all time selling over 75 million records
worldwide. He may be alive by his actions and how he says things in his lyrics that can have you
thinking. He has a very great legacy and while it may be possible that he is dead i will give you some
reason on how he may fake his own death and could have known what was going to happen the night
of September 7,1996. The case is still unsolved to this day 22 years later. He is still out there and these
are some good reasoning on why you should believe this. The first reason is his nickname Makaveli
that name comes from Niccolo Machiavelli an Italian war strategist and philosopher who use faking
one s death to fool their enemies and how this nickname has to do with his music. This is significant
because His lyrics talked about faking his death and coming back. He was gunned down exactly seven
months after All Eyez On Me was released. The number seven keeps coming up too. According to the
website (Top 20 reasons) he was shot on September 7th and survived on 7th through the 12th day and

  • 2. The Hypocrisy of Religion in Moby Dick Essay The Hypocrisy of Religion in Moby Dick Stubb decides to give Old Fleece a lecture on religion after waking him to complain about his overcooked whale steak. Not only does Stubb ask Fleece to preach to the sharks who are making a considerable din eating the dead whale chained to the ship, but he compares Fleece s inability to correctly cook a whale steak to Fleece s un Christian ways. This passage is an excellent example of the theme of the hypocrisy of religion in Moby Dick. Before Stubb calls on Fleece, Ishmael compares the actions of the shark to the actions of man. He first compares Stubb to the sharks: Nor was Stubb the only banqueter on whale s flesh that night. Mingling their mumblings with his own mastications, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this context, humans are no more civilized or refined than sharks. However, Stubb s lines tell us that he believes otherwise. After he complains to Fleece about the overdone steak, he orders Fleece to deliver his message to enjoy the whale but keep quiet while indulging: now then, go and preach to them! (___). Fleece sullenly obeys, and tells the sharks to stop dad dam noise dare (___). The irony begins here when Stubb steps and tells Fleece that he s doing it all wrong, that you don t convert sinners by swearing. Stubb s classification of the sharks as sinners becomes hypocritical, for as Ishmael and Fleece remark, Stubb himself is a sinner. Fleece begins his sermon again, this time without the profanity. Your woraciousness, fellow critters. I don t blame ye so much for; dat is natur, and can t be helped; but to gobern dat wicked natur, dat is de pint. You is sharks, sartin; but if you gobern de shark in you, why den you be angel; for all angel is not ing more dan de shark well goberned (___). Fleece is saying that everyone has a wicked nature, but if one can control that nature, they can be angels. Stubb completely misses this point of this warm moment; his comment that s Christianity, seems more like a praise of Fleece s ability to refrain from swearing instead of a realization that Fleece is saying there is good in everyone, regardless of the religious affiliation one is labeled. ... • 3. Correlation Between Dietary Sugar Intake And Risk For Cancer The body requires sugar (Espat, 2015). However, there is recent speculation that sugar can cause cancer. More than one million people in the United States (US) get cancer each year (American Cancer Society, 2016). Most Americans eat more than double the recommended daily intake of sugar each day (Espat, 2015). According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015 2020, individuals should not consume more than 10% of their calories from sugar (US Department of Agriculture, 2016). While increased sugar intake can lead to other issues, such as obesity, which is associated with cancer, diabetes and cancer occur together more often than would be expected by chance alone (Oncology Nutrition, 2016). The purpose of this study is to provide additional information on a topic that should be of great importance to the public. Everyone should be informed of preventable factors that can be linked to an increased risk of cancer. This study will explore the correlation between dietary sugar intake with risk for cancer. Many experts argue over the relation of sugar and cancer, and very little research has been done on the topic. The University of Texas: MD Anderson Cancer Center associates obesity, a result of high sugar diets, to be the actual correlating variable between cancer and sugar (Espat, 2015). However, the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine (Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, 2012) reports that elevated blood sugar levels lead to mutations in DNA, which ... • 4. Smell And Odor And Emotion INTRODUCTION Often, one of the most overlooked of the five senses is the ability to smell. Living things use it every day from figuring out what the best scent is to eat the most delicious food to figuring out what perfume makes us the happiest (and potentially, the most attractive to others). However, smell is more than just the stench someone gives off. In fact, odor can trigger a variety of emotions. To begin the discussion on the relationship between odor and emotion, one must define what an odor is. More than just a sense, smell consists of molecules that recognized by olfactory receptors and must have a specific concentration (Yantis, 2014). With much research, a relationship between memory and odor has existed and has led to broader findings about odor and other components. According to a 2009 study, a relationship between odor and mood exists (Croy et al., 2011). However, research done regarding odor and emotion is a fairly recent interest and has gained more attention over the last few years. According to the American Psychological Association, an emotion is a complex pattern of changes, including physiological arousal, feelings, cognitive processes, and behavioral reactions, made in response to a situation perceived to be personally significant (APA, n.d.). BACKGROUND: MEMORY COMPONENT A key piece of the odor emotion relationship comes from the ability to remember odors over time. Odor and memory have been studied at great extent and tends to overshadow the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Research Study On Data Analysis The qualitative research for the study will be driven by using tools such as excel spreadsheets and data analysis software that provides a quality control and accuracy for the results obtained from the participants. The researcher will be utilizing two elements of data analysis validity according to Creswell described by Sampson, J (2012), congruence and accuracy: Congruence involves providing a rational that shows how the data analysis method for qualitative research and fits the questions being asked or the hypotheses for qualitative research. The description of the rationale for using various data analysis methods should help the readers determine if the analytical techniques are appropriate for the research design and the measures utilized to represent the variables in the case study. Accuracy involves providing evidence that the analytical techniques used in the research provide correct answers to the research question being asked or the hypotheses being posed. This process establishes the accuracy of data analysis helps the reader to judge whether or not the findings obtained in the study could be trusted. The researcher role in this process is an exceptional and significant role in the process of qualitative research, which is to present a new platform for the dual enrollment program to provide readiness skills to help students with work life balance when students transition to college while working. • 12. Biblical View On Homosexuality And Religion Biblical view on Homosexuality In the bible God divinely established the institution of marriage, and this is seen in the garden of Eden during creation. Marriage was a special gift to man from a loving God before the fall that led to evil and pervasion entering the spiritual world of man. Marriage was designed by our creator to give satisfaction to a person s deepest longings for intimacy, love, appreciation and care. The views of marriage between Christians and Jews are fundamentally different and show the different ways that they view the world in relation to how they interpret their own doctrine and how these views are changing over time. According to the Christian doctrine, reasons why people get married and traditional marriages are becoming diminished at a faster rate than ever as the culture changes. This is very true for contemporary culture, law, and society. A growing influence in secular ideologies and practice are undermining biblical standards in family relations and sexual morality. Marital unfaithfulness, spousal abuse, sex before marriage, cohabitation, pornography, and promiscuity; these among other liberated lifestyles of married couples are bringing down the intuition of marriage. Moreover, alternative sexualities like homosexuality included and other varieties of transgender identities are becoming increasingly mainstream. Johnson 8 February, 2010 Morbius Fatal Folly As pointed out by Merrell Knighten in his essay called The Triple Paternity of Forbidden Planet, the main difference between Shakespeare s The Tempest and the 1956 science fiction adaptation Forbidden Planet (referred to as FP) is the use and control of power. In The Tempest, Prospero knows what power he holds through the use of his books and spells, and ultimately uses these powers to restore order to the island. However, in forbidden Planet, Morbius powers are unknown to him and ultimately lead to his demise. For Miranda s lover Ferdinand, the film inserts Commander Adams who is in fact the leader of the rescue expedition sent to relieve Dr. Morbius and his supposed companions. There are no relations between the film and the play with regards to Morbius fellow colonizers of Altair 4, but this has to do with the fact that the film was a sci fi adaptation. The drunken butler Stephano is countered in the film with the Tennessee bourbon sloshing space cook. The character of Caliban resonates in the film by use of the Id monster, and finally Ariel is engrossed through the character of Robby the Robot. A closer reading of some of the characters in FP will reveal parallels outlined by Campos. Campos shines light on the fact that [Prospero and Morbius] are figures that, isolated from the rest of mankind, have devoted their lives to the study of some books which have granted them an extraordinary, almost supernatural power (Campos, 285). The main connections between the two are their utilization of science and magic. As pointed out by Campos, the film gives a clear implication that science becomes the magic of the future (286). This statement seems to be truthful as in Shakespeare s time magic would be thought to be no different from the scientific breakthroughs of our time. For example a Shakespearean audience would marvel at the strides science has taken in the modern day, such as the utilization of electricity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Is Ridley Scott Achieved A Meaningful Ending Of Thelma And... Has Ridley Scott achieved a meaningful ending in Thelma and Louise? What makes a meaningful film ending? Firstly characters in the film need to be taken into consideration. The easiest way to assess this is to look at the protagonists. Did he or she get to overcome their personal issues, or are they still bothered by them? Ridley Scott, the director of Thelma and Louise creates a meaningful ending which features the suicide of the two protagonists Thelma and Louise. They are fugitives on the run from the U.S law after Louise shot a man who tried to rape Thelma. In the end, these two women were cornered by police, as a result, they drive off the Grand Canyon to their deaths over the choice of surrendering. Also, the ending is more meaningful as their fate led them to the Grand Canyon abolishing Thelma and Louise s plan of escaping to Mexico. As these two protagonists are taken into consideration, in the end, Scott suggests that their suicide is more meaningful because at the end they overcome their personal issues. In the same degree, Scott illustrates that if Thelma and Louise were to escape to Mexico or Surrender their personal struggles could have paralysed their lives. The director creates a meaningful ending by suggesting that escaping to Mexico is not a solution for Thelma and Louise to overcome their personal struggles. This is achieved by getting the audience to question what good could result from escaping. In the beginning of the final scene, they are driving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. CEO Compensation Paper The purpose of this research article is to examine the relationship between CEO compensation and patient satisfaction in non profit hospitals throughout Ontario, Canada. The study aims to identify the possibility of a correlation between these two variables via the investigation of three key research questions: (1) Does CEO compensation affect patient satisfaction? (2) Does CEO compensation play a mediating role between patient satisfaction and hospital size? (3) Other than CEO compensation, what factors impact patient satisfaction? Through the guidance of these questions and the analysis of the research conducted to answer them, the study provides a basis for further research in an area of healthcare that has not yet been explored. ... Considering it only depicted employee salaries that were $100,000 or above, the sample was restricted to salaries equal to or above this value. The performance data was drawn from the Hospital Report Research Collaborative: Acute Care for Three Years. The sample purposely used acute care hospitals of varying sizes over a time span of three years (2005, 2006, 2007). This data was then combined with the corresponding hospital s CEO compensation for each of the previous years. Salaries of CEOs were intentionally looked at from the prior year since changes implemented by the CEO and their impact on performance measurements would follow thereafter. Overall, the study consisted of 261 CEO hospital year observations in a sample of 103 acute care nonprofit hospitals. Imagine yourself, dear reader, transported to Shakespearian Verona, a bustling, peaceful city (aside from the occasional death or two), with its obligatory social classes going about agreeably (aside from the occasional brawl or two), and all people happy and successful (aside from the occasional poor wretch or two). The Verona in which Shakespeare s tragedy Romeo and Juliet takes place in is made sinister by the deadly consequences than ensue from its strict, unbending society. At any infraction of honor, men are pushed to duel to the death, or face the dreaded charge of cowardliness. Indeed, Tybalt, bound by honor to his family, is ready to slay Romeo even at Romeo s tiny misdemeanor of attending the Capulet party: What, dares the slave / Come hither covered with an antic face / To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? / Now, by the stock and honor of my kin / To strike him dead I hold it not a sin. (1. 5. 63 67) Soon after this scene, Tybalt duels with Mercutio in place of Romeo, and Mercutio falls dead. Obligated to avenge his friend s death, Romeo fights with Tybalt, and strikes him dead. This results in Romeo s banishment, which, of course, leads to the series of hasty plans that end in his and Juliet s deaths. Another reason that society is responsible for Romeo and Juliet s deaths lies in its unjust, poverty creating laws. When Romeo believes Juliet dead (she is actually asleep), he kills himself with poison, which in turn leads to Juliet s death when she sees him dead. However, In Mantua, the Italian city to which Romeo is banished, sale of poison is illegal. The article opens up with a discussion about the 2001 2 exhibition of Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi: Father and Daughter Painters in Baroque Italy. The author explains that three things are unusual here: the fact that two famous artists were presented at the same time, that they were related as father and daughter, and the fact that the woman was better known than the man. The author also talks about the story of Susanna and the Elders. Apparently Artemisia Gentileschi painted three versions of this biblical story at three different stages in her life, 1610, 1622, and 1649. The author did a comparison on the three Susanna paintings and she argues that it is noticeable that the abstracting qualities of the 1610 painting change its concept or meaning from one form of story telling to another. She argues that the abstract form of story telling serves the purpose of finding a visual equivalent to the deafening silence . She explains that the 1622 Susanna and the Elders speaks a different language, and so does the 1649 version. Nanette Salomon emphasizes that there are different ways to make sense of the changes in Artemisia s three Susannas . One explanation may be that Artemisia s work show progressive naturalism or realism which can be attributed to her development as an artist. Judging Artemisia Gentileschi is a practice that is believed to have begun at the same time as aesthetic judgment, back in the time of Vasari in the late sixteenth century. To me, those are the main points of the article by Nanette Salomon. I think that she made a very good historical and psychological approach on the subject. The strength of this article is that she provides a lot of historical facts, and blends it together with her words and opinion. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The people like Iago, Rodrigo, Emilia and Barbanzio all look at Desdemona as a pure white dove and when they see Othello they think of him as animal like a Barbary Horse (1:1:112). The other contradiction shown in their relationship is that Desdemona went against the rule that they had back then and choose Othello even though he is black instead of choosing a white man. This is a big contradiction that is shown because back then that wasn t normal for people to do that and Desdemona being the sweet innocent girl that people presume her to be shows contradiction in a big way because it shows that Desdemona is not so sweet after all and breaks the rules. • 41. The Importance Of Advertising Everyday, everywhere we are inundated with advertisements. Whether it be while you are walking down the street, shopping at the supermarket, or even in the safety of your own home enjoying some tv in your down time. Advertising, whether it be big or small is everywhere; and in fact there are many issues with it. Advertising that promotes a service or product in a deceptive way is highly unethical. This is because it doesn t provide the customer with enough information that they need in order to make a good, educated decision. And on another note, advertising is manipulative because of the way it promotes consumption at such a large scale. Some of the main reasons for advertising being dishonest are because it displays false savings, it exhibits unnecessary upselling and possibly most importantly, it fuel s wasteful consumerism. The significance of this problem, comes in the form of the large sums of money people waste on products they don t need and once purchased, realise they don t want. Frankly it is just too overt to look past. A way that advertising is deceptive is by showing false savings. Advertising a shocking price cut is a common marketing tactic, but some businesses inflate their prices beforehand just so they can advertise the sizable price cut. In effect, the customer does not receive a good deal because the discount reflects virtual, not actual, savings. Word s such as closeout and clearance are commonly used by companies, which give consumers the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The First Phase Of The Chinese Economic Reform Was... The first phase of the Chinese economic reform was characterized by an emergence of rural initiatives and new modes of corporations such as TVEs. The central authority allowed vague ownership and, therefore, permitted the existence of transitional institutions that retained the pre reform structures yet functioned to serve the contemporary users. In the industrial sector, however, at the beginning of the first phase, state owned enterprises dominated the economic output when private foreign invested firms did not appear. Two decades after, SOEs only comprised of about one third of the total output while collective enterprises and private firms occupied one third each. This drastic drop of the power of SOEs was the result of both the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the development of TVEs and the entries of private enterprises and foreign joint ventures became the chief driving force in the early reform period. These were the brand new institutions, unlike state owned enterprises. The deteriorating performance and market share of SOEs attracted the attention of Qian and Lin. In the wave of growing business of various types of enterprises, the large scaled SOEs could not sustain their profits and constantly need governmental subsidies, a phenomenon in opposition to the economic trend in the reform era. Many SOEs had to offer their employees insurances, training, education and health care, deepening the financial burden. Such an anti development scene would make Lin and Qian oppose the ideas of Rawski and Jefferson. Qian observes that large scaled state owned enterprises, even though experienced managerial reforms and ownership reconfiguration, continued to suffer from declining performance, i.e. profitability. The new corporate organization consisting shareholders, board of directors and supervisory board clashed with the role of the party committees. In this case, Qian pointed out that the key reason for this failure was the party s control over the appointment of senior executives of SOEs. The executives politicized standing overshadowed their role in enhancing the corporate performances. The secretive selection ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. My Love Of Theatre I have been a performer my entire life, and want to continue to impact those around me through theater. In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions. My love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of plays and musicals can deeply impact an audience. My freshman year I actually performed at my school s brother school and played Celisse in Godspell. My sophomore year I played Mrs. Harcourt in Anything Goes, my junior year I was the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this year I was the Bird Woman in Mary Poppins. My favorite performances, however, is Spring Sing, a student run production where classes compete for bragging rights. I have been an actor in Spring Sing since my freshman year and my class hopes to win this year! Being able to express myself through song, acting, and dance is a form of meditation for me. It is a time where I am able to completely forget about my own anxieties and focus on the worries of the character. Roles are static until you make them come alive, and that is where there is room for creative expression. My greatest skill is knowing how to improvise on and off stage. Being able to improvise is one of the most important skills an actor can learn. I have been in improv club since my freshman year of high school, and truly believe that it has helped me with my communication skills and self confidence. These classes teach me how to use my environment to my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Annotated Bibliography of Articles about the American Culture The authors purpose Philip DeVita and James Armstrong, the authors of this collection, decided to produce this work for the purpose of understanding ourselves (the title of the introductory remarks). They start by pointing out the remarkable freshness Alexis de Tocqueville s observation of America in the mid 19th century offered at the time. They note that concerns for understanding the other have always interested anthropologists. And this collection, as they argue, is an attempt to understand America as the other by looking at American culture, society, politics, intellectual traditions, and attitudes from the perspectives of outsiders. DeVita and Armstrong emphasize that it is hard for a social scientist to fully understand the uniqueness and strangeness of one s culture. Growing up within the culture means accepting one s cultural assumptions for granted. Being closed to the perspectives only outsiders might have, those who grow up in American culture fail to ask the kind of questions that may reveal more about America. And this is where, DeVita and Armstrong argue, the essay collection comes in. They asked anthropologists from numerous Western and non Western countries to share their experiences of living, observing, and understanding American culture and society. These outsiders express their wonder and critical insight for understanding aspects of American life Americans normally would not otherwise see on their own. Finally, the authors note they want ... Even though this ideology is more referred to specific individuals regarding their occupation, education can be considered to follow this same description. There are educational institutions everywhere, one elementary school usually in one part of a neighborhood in your hometown. As these schools grown in number and increase in grade level however, less become established and there tend to be a smaller amount of high schools within a city compared to elementary or middle. This means that for every 4 or 5 neighborhoods there is 1 high school that is responsible for accepting these residents. High schools quickly become established in large district areas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How are low income schools different than higher income schools? This is a concerning issue because if there continues to be a financial difference between educational institutions that affects the quality of schools, there will be an entire generation of students that will have received a poor education and have limited opportunities of successfully integrating with society compared to graduates that attained a higher quality education from a higher income school. This decreases social mobility of low income school graduates, continues stratification, and may encourage low income graduates to enact in high risk illegal acts to support themselves and families since they were not properly prepared to be college ready in high school. Low income schools mainly differ from higher income schools through student performance in college preparatory exams and behavioral issues/stigmas. • 48. American Cultural Values When discussing America and its pervasive issue with crime, it is important to note the cultural values that not only make America but also break it in terms of encouraging criminality and objectivity of crimes. Furthermore, there are three major cultural values that are held most dear to the American public: freedom, success, and individualism. To begin, freedom is at the core of the American culture. In America, freedom can be defined as the notion that, individuals are guaranteed rights and that those rights can be expanded by the constitution at any time if needed (Burfeind Westermann, 1991). While in some aspects this cultural value has led to great advances in individual rights that may not be seen in other nations, it has some down sides that cause a strain on the American society. For example, because many individuals value freedom and in particular personal freedom, there is often a disconnect between their definition and reality of freedom, the governments definition, and of course others. This type of disconnect and road to eventual criminality can best be represented when discussing one of the major political discussions to date, Marriage Equality. Some American laws that have passed and were enforced were unconstitutional at the very nature of their disallowance of American equality for all and citizens who knew of this used their individual freedom to break this law by practice of civil disobedience. However, since different sections of American s have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He has a great legacy because of how he use his fame and was the voice of the people;he is a activist and a role model to me. He is the best selling music artist of all time selling over 75 million records worldwide. He may be alive by his actions and how he says things in his lyrics that can have you thinking. He has a very great legacy and while it may be possible that he is dead i will give you some reason on how he may fake his own death and could have known what was going to happen the night of September 7,1996. The case is still unsolved to this day 22 years later. He is still out there and these are some good reasoning on why you should believe this. The first reason is his nickname Makaveli that name comes from Niccolo Machiavelli an Italian war strategist and philosopher who use faking one s death to fool their enemies and how this nickname has to do with his music. This is significant because His lyrics talked about faking his death and coming back. He was gunned down exactly seven months after All Eyez On Me was released. The number seven keeps coming up too.
