Video Games and Violence
There are probably millions and billions of video games sold every year to people. Some people
seem to believe that violence correlates directly with video games. Video games are something
that is usually a big interest in people at the ages of 13 to 19 years old. Video games usually start
off as a little fun and then turn into a major hobby for some people. Emotions change based on
whatever happens while a person is engaging in these games most of the time. These games are
another way to observe how people react emotionally to these games.
These video games have ratings made officially by the Entertainment Software Rating Board or
ESRB for short. Video game ratings go in a specific order ranging from Rated EC which means
Early Childhood to Rated RP which means Rating Pending. There are also more ratings in this
guide such as Rated E for Everyone and Rated T for Teens ages 13 and older ( ESRB Ratings Guide
).These video game ratings help the person who is purchasing these games by showing what age is
recommended for the person to be able to play the games.
The Entertainment Software Ratings Board also makes content descriptors. These tell the people
who are buying these games what the game they are buying contains such as, blood and gore
which contains content only for ages 18 and up. Another descriptor is known as use of drugs which
is described as anything involving illegal drugs. Violent References is another content descriptor
which deals with killing people or

The Fear Of Fear In The Salem Witch Trials
Throughout history fear causes people to act in a way that is today is thought of as absurd. In
the Salem Witch trials, people commit murder for what they believe to be dangerous, yet they
were acts of the fear of the unknown. Within the Puritan belief, the followers are so scared of the
wrath of God that they will take radical action to prove they are good Christians. Hysteria can
cause groups of people to come together and act upon a radical belief that can lead to a point of
ignorance of reality. While fear itself is a healthy emotion, irrational fears cause people to take
irrational actions. In The Science of Fear by Daniel Gardner, the aspects of human s response to
fear are explained in four different groups. When people experience fear, naturally they come
together with the people who share similar beliefs (Gardner 15). Gardner describes this
gravitation as group polarization and with this comes confirmation bias. When the groups of
people come together with the bias they hold to be true if confirmed and strengthened by those
who share them (Gardner 15). The actions of these groups are based on the two systems of
thinking. System one thinking is fast, involving feelings and emotions. Whereas system two
thinking is based on reason and logic within one s actions (Gardner 15). However, the actions
caused by fear are sometimes out of the thought of fear rather than the reality of it. The reality is
that the only thing we have to fear ... if fear itself

Compare and Contrast Brazil and China as Bric Countries
Currently, economic world are more dynamic. Many developed countries such as European Union,
US, and Japan as the largest economic are going to be overtaken by developing countries,
particularly BRIC. BRIC stands for Brazil, Russia, India, and China. Those countries are growing
rapidly and making contribution to the world economy as Goldman Sachs(2010) said, Between
2000 and 2008, the BRICs contributed almost 30% to global growth in US Dollar terms, compared
with around 16% in the previous decade . Furthermore, even Goldman Sachs predicted in 2050 the
BRICcould account for almost 50% of global equity markets. This essay will compare and evaluate

Therefore, Brazil is trying to utilize China s huge market to replace their lost demand in the US. In
fact, the collaboration between China and Brazil has expanded in multiple sector including
financing, investment in joint projects, energy cooperation, and military sales (EIU, 2010). Thus,
China became the largest trading partner for Brazil since 2009 with value about US$36bn (EIU,
2010).
One of the important factors of the growth in China and Brazil as BRIC countries is Foreign
Direct Investment (FDI). There are several factors that contribute to attract FDI including market
size, institutional and regulatory quality, trade openness, infrastructure quality, economic and
political stability, and labor quality and cost (The World Bank, 2011). China is still the most
attracting for FDI among any other BRIC members (UNCTAD, 2012). Huge amount of market,
low inflation and stability of their government are might be the factors that attracted the FDI in
China. According to the ministry of China, Investment from the United States decreased by 26.1
percent in 2011 to $3 billion, while that from the European Union decreased by 3.65 percent to
$6.3 billion so, China s FDI was hit by the global financial crisis in the EU and US. However, The
most attracted FDI in Brazil is in market size sector with the fact that Brazil will be the host of

The Developing Person Through The Life Span
Losing A Loved One Will Result A Person To Mature
Death is very hard to understand. Even adults have a tough time coping with their loved one s
death what more a child or a teenager finding out that his father will not be around anymore.
According to Kathleen Berger in the book called The Developing Person Through The Life Span,
she believes that Adolescents find way to vent their grief to express their personal identity concerns
and control their anxiety about death by taking risks (Berger 2014). I absolutely agree with Berger
s research about how adolescents react to death because it is exactly how I felt and reacted during
those times that my father was at the verge of death. Sons are normally close with their father and
as the fourth child of the family, I was very close with my father. He disciplined us in a way that a
child would understand and up until now that s the method I use to raise my kids. The road that
lead me to maturity took me a lot of time to recover from my father s death, how I coped during
the times that he was not with us anymore and how I had to snapped out of my outrageous activity
to notice that I was not the only one hurting.
March 1987, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was very hard to believe and accept
that he was ill. He was only 58 years old after all and I just started my first year of college at the
age of 17 years old. Prostate cancer did not wait a long time to take our father away from us. Six

Consumer Culture in Modern Europe
Consumer Culture in Modern Europe Consumer Culture in Modern Europe Nazi Chic,
Fashioning Women in the Third Reich written by Irene Guenther s is one of the finest books of
all time. This book on fashion was written during National Socialist regime by the author. It is
the first book written in English that deals with German fashion during and after the World War
one. Many consider this book as a jewel for those who are interested in women and aesthetic
politics during the period of National Socialism. The topic of the book was not discussed openly
in the public at the time of its release but the author managed to give convincing facts on the
importance of modern fashion in the Nazi state by credibly arguing on its political and economic
importance. The book tries to tell us about the failed attempt of Nazis to formulate female image
for gender policies and to prove their pride and success in the fashion industry of Europe so that
they could establish its control on the fashion industry and portray modernization of women in
Germany which unfortunately was not the case. The positive aspect of this book and the reason
why people seem to like reading it was because the author has supported her statement with
appropriate proofs and evidence. The author has written this book with ultimate devotion and in
great depth from the First World War to the Second World War by including and sighting
confidential matters for some of her chapters. It was a very informative and great

Sundarban History
Sundarban
The Sundarbans (Bengali সুন্দরবন, Shundorbôn) is the largest single block of tidal
halophytic mangrove forest in the world. The name Sundarban can be literally translated as
beautiful jungle or beautiful forest in the Bengali language (Sundar, beautiful and ban, forest or
jungle ). The name may have been derived from the Sundari trees that are found in Sundarbans in
large numbers. Alternatively, it has been proposed that the name is a corruption of Samudraban
(Bengali: সমুদ্রবন Shomudrobôn Sea Forest ) or Chandra bandhe (name of a
primitive tribe). But the generally accepted view is the one associated with Sundari trees.

The first call to preserve the forests was made by Dr. Brandis, the Conservator of Forests in Burma
1862. Based on his recommendations, additional reclamation grants were stopped, but deforestation
continued, irrespective. By 1873, 5,100 km2 of forests had been converted into agricultural land
and the Sundarbans area forest cover had been effectively reduced to about 14,100 km2.
It is only post 1873 1874, when faced with dwindling forest produce, the rulers started reviewing
the policy of transformation of all available wetland forest to taxable agricultural land in the
Sundarbans. The economics of exploitation had changed in the last century and forest produce had
become scarce and more valuable than agricultural produce. No longer was it considered profitable
to clear the forests for cultivation as much greater revenues could be collected from farming the
forest itself.
In 1875 1876 the government declared un leased forest reserved, and placed them under the
jurisdiction of the Forest Department a move which created today s Sundarbans forest.
A variety of wildlife still survived till the latter part of the 19th century despite the rapid depletion
of habitat. Hunter records Tigers, leopards, rhinoceros, wild buffaloes, wild hogs, wild cats,

animals found in Sundarban 2 in 1875. But the events of the next

Dust Tracks
Dust Tracks on a Road Hurston s Dust Tracks on a Road depicts the struggle and journey of
growing up in a predominately African American society. She displays how African Americans
were curtailed to nothing after the Civil War and how it was quite difficult to commence a town on
their own of there own race. Her autobiography entails the very candid moments of the Harlem
Renaissance. As the novel is exposed in the opening chapter the subject matter is revealed and it
entails Zora Neale Hurstons life. So you will have to know something about the time and place
where I came from, in order that you may interpret the incidents and directions of my life (Hurston

This could potentially be the vacuum or circuit in Hurston s life that attested for her fame in the
Harlem Renaissance. The war generals were also very significant people in the development of
Eatonville and neighboring towns. Now, these founders were, to a man, people who had risked
their lives and fortunes that Negroes might be free. Those who had fought in the ranks had
thrown their weight behind the cause of Emancipation (5). This demonstration of leadership and
uncertainty are characteristics that Hurston posses. So, in a raw, bustling frontier, the
experiment of self government for Negroes was tried. White Maitland and Negro Eatonville
have lived side by side for fifty five years without a single instance of enmity. The spirit of the
founders ha reached beyond the grave (6). Hurston s opening exposition reveals only partial of
what could be the remaining events in the novel. However they do parallel with the theme of an
individual versus society. This being said because she has become a product of her environment
and her environment has shaped her in many ways as a writer. She was fortunate enough to grow
up in a very influential area. She prepares the reader for potential conflict with her environment
because her environment is so historic and classic. This usually results in amending one s behavior
or having to comply with the rules of society. But by having read other novels by Hurston one
knows that she is not one to agree in compliance and

most influential time periods in British history, commencing in late 15th Century, with Henry VII s
iconic defeat of Richard III in the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. This era produced several
monarchs that shaped Englands future drastically in terms of culture and religious beliefs over a

as well as produced influential people that would re define British culture in a variety of aspects
such as literature, science and religion. Although the House of Tudor existed centuries ago, they

Essay On Easter Island
Polynesian Expansion Easter Island, previously named Rapa Nui, is mostly famous for its 10
metre tall Moai statues dotting the Island. Easter Island is located on the eastern point of the
Polynesian Triangle. Easter Island has four extinct volcanoes, but its largest is Rano Kau,
located on the southwestern headland. Rapa Nui was first settled by Hotu Matu a in 400 CE. He
came from the Marquesas in two large canoes with his wife and extended family. The Polynesians
navigated Rapa Nui, using only the stars and stick charts. They used double hulled canoes as a
source of transportation, to get to Rapa Nui. Some people believe that a tribe of Polynesian island

They used canoes as a source of transportation. Their first canoes were not sturdy enough for
open waters and would capsize if a large wave came. Over time they built their canoes stronger
and used a double hull method to give the vessel more stability. These canoes were called
outriggers and could withstand deep waters (Textbook, 2013). This is what Hotu Matu a used to
get to Rapa Nui with his wife and extended family. Hotu Matu a started the population off at Rapa
Nui and spread the word about it. Soon there were many people on Rapa Nui, as many as 2000
to 3000 inhabitants. There are over 800 Moai statues on Rapa Nui, one for almost every family
(Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, 2017). The Maoi statues were carved
around 1200 C.E to 1500 C.E and weighed close to 12700 kilograms, they were 10 metres tall
and were believed to protect their creators. Once the word got around that these Moai statues
protected their owners, every person on the island wanted one. This used all the resources and
soon they couldn t even hunt, because there was no wood to make weapons. Some people believe
that the Moai statues were placed by gods, and they walked into place, however the only evidence
that points towards this theory, is that these statues were far too heavy to be moved by man. There
are scientific investigations taking place right now, trying to prove that

St Augustine and classical education Essay
Saint Augustine and Classical Education
In Saint Augustine s deeply personal work, Confessions, he shares the story of his life up to his
eventual conversion to the Christian faith. His odyssey through life is, at times, one of bitter inner
conflict between his intellect and faith. Augustine s classical education had a profound affect on the
way he viewed the world, and eventually had a major affect on the way he approached Christianity.
He is definitely an intellectual Christian, and viewed many aspects of his faith from this
perspective. Augustine s attitude towards classical literature and thought was at times slightly self
contradictory. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In book five, Augustine spoke of this principle by comparing two men:
A man who knows that he owns a tree and thanks you for the use he has of it, even though he
does not know its exact height or the width of its spread, is better than another who measures it
and counts all its branches, but neither owns it nor loves its Creator. In just the same way, a man
who has faith in you has all the wealth of the world... (V, 95)
It can be argued that his intellectual pursuits further complicated his conversion because he was
tormented by certain philosophical questions that became obstacles to his ultimate goals. In his
youth he was obsessed with counting all the branches, while never seeing the whole tree. At times
Augustine asserted that his pursuit of worldly wisdom was in direct conflict with his journey
towards God.
What, then, was the value to me of my intelligence, which could take these subjects in its stride,
and all those books, with their tangled problems, which I unraveled without the help of any human
tutor, when in the doctrine of your love I was lost in the most hideous error and vast sacrilege? (IV,
89)
Despite all of the negative aspects of his education on which Augustine focused, it is obvious that
his schooling was an essential part of his character. Other than Christianity, his education was the
most important

Microsoft s Operating Systems ( Os )
Microsoft s Operating Systems (OS) have come a lengthy way since MS DOS; let s look at the
chronological changes Microsoft s OS have been through, preliminary from the first OS to the
latest. Microsoft s initially OS MS DOS 1.0 was released with IBM s PC in 1981 which contained
numerous of other Microsoft products such as BASIC and COBOL. IBM permitted Microsoftto
retain the rights this OS and so Microsoft was presented to the Operating System business. New
versions of MS DOS were available from 1982 up till its final version 7.1 in 1997. Some of these
features improved as the updates came out. Tthe main enhancements from an update were
increased by memory support. Some of the significant structures and improvements were from
version 1.25, which reinforced double sided disks. Next was version 3.0; this version added
additional support for the network. In addition version7 that were combined with Windows 95,
permitted removal of many utilities and had the support for the FAT32 file system on hard drive
disks .
Microsoft signed a contract with IBM in August 1985 for joint expansion of OS s and other
systems software products. In April 1987 Microsoft and IBM released OS/2 and in the following
year in October OS/2 1.1 was released. Microsoft later exited from the project to put more of their
time and work into Windows NT, which was a new OS not part of MS DOS. The Windows OS (an

William Shakespeare s A Play A Midsummer Night s Dream
To Quote Hamlet, Act Three, Scene Three, Line Eighty Seven, No. (An analyzation of true love
in A Midsummer Night s Dream) Examples of true love in literature can be found in a myriad of
oeuvres and opuses. It is extremely popular in the contemporary era to include romance in a
novel. An exemplary case of an instance of true love in modern writing would be the affiliation
of Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully in George R. R. Martin s A Game of Thrones. These two
characters share an intense romance, and never sincerely stop loving one another. Moreover, in the
aforementioned author s A Song of Ice and Fire saga, there are additional relationships with a true

To begin, Hermia and Lysander s romance, as detailed in A Midsummer Night s Dream, is true,
as this love is both gradual and exceedingly organic. Unlike Helena and Demetrius s fake and
fallacious love, the romantic passion between Hermia and Lysander is genuine. It was not the
fairy king, Oberon, who made them fall deeply in love with each other, as is the case with the
former pair of paramours. Instead, Hermia and Lysander fell in love naturally, and in a gradual
fashion. This proves their love to be true, as a person cannot fall in love with another in a brief
period of time. Love is piecemeal, and takes numerous hours, if not years, for two people to
become paramours. This is not true of the romance between Helena and Demetrius, as the two
fell in love in a single instant. Demetrius was bewitched by Oberon s magical elixir, and that is
the only reason why the youth dotes on Helena. Before he was given the potion by the fairy
king, Demetrius utterly detested Helena and loathed her. In truth, Demetrius did not even wish to
see the girl, and was said to become sick merely upon seeing Helena. Therefore, it was only
because of Oberon s involvement that those two people fell in love. Thus, their love is not true,
and is entirely fictitious and fraudulent. In addition, the love between Hermia and Lysander relied
on no involvement from Oberon to form. The fairy king s influence played no part in making them
fall in love. While it is true that Lysander was given

The Short Story The Interlopers
Many people desire to get something, and they fight each other to win their desire. They
consider each other their enemies and do whatever it takes to be better than one another. When
the enemies need help for same problem, they unite themselves to solve the problem. The short
story The Interlopers by Saki is about unification and reveals how enemies become allies in
harsh situations. Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym were enemies because Ulrich was the
owner of the forest land, and Georg was trying to steal Ulrich s forest land. They met in the
middle of the forest and tried to kill each other. However, they were trapped by the huge tree that
fell from a fiery storm. Waiting for their men to rescue them, Ulrich offered Georg a wine. Ulrich
von Gradwitz told Georg Znaeym that if Ulrich s men come faster than Georg s men then Ulrich
will tell the men to rescue Georgefirst, and that they have better things to do than getting the
better of a boundary dispute (Saki 86). The quote shows that Ulrich wanted to be friends with
Georg rather than fighting over who gets the forest land. Ulrich asked George to be his friend, and
George accepted his request. Waiting for their men to come and help them, both wished that their
private men would come first so they can be the first to show honorable attention to the other (Saki

The leaning process is very complex but my philosophy of learning is founded on a relationship of
credibility, knowledge and, escalation of mental grows. Some of the greatest minds are true
fundamental to my statement such as Socrates the Greek philosopher and the main source of
Western thought; The English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton, most famous for his law
of gravitation, was instrumental in the scientific revolution of the 17th century; Italian scientist and
scholar Galileo made pioneering observations that laid the foundation for modern physicsand
astronomy and ; Albert Einstein was a German born physicist who developed the general theory of
relativity, among other feats. He is considered the most influential physicist of the 20th century.
These scientists are the inspiration to my philosophy.
The importance of credibility
The knowledge base of a person can be corrupted by an outside influential(s) that could hinder the
knowledge material transmittable to other(s). This knowledge could be influence negativity
without notice by the transmitter or facilitator some examples are; any kind status, fallacious
knowledge, religion, political agenda, even sexual orientation. Knowledge that is infected by any
negative influences is neither valid nor reliable. Therefore, credibility it is violated. Socrates the
pioneer of seeking knowledge he used to go to the streets and just talked to people just to learn
something new. Socrates asked a methodical series

Analysis of Anti Slavery Rhetoric Fredrick Douglas, Angelina Grimke, and Henry David Thoreau
were well known abolitionists who spoke against the issue of slavery to various extents during the
course of their lives. They did so in written forms through books or orally through speeches. Either
way, their anti slavery rhetoric was meant to move people and galvanize them to fight for a better
tomorrow where equality would take charge and the issue of slavery would be no more. To
accomplish this, these abolitionists utilized a variety of methods of persuasion within their rhetoric
so as to be able to more effectively influence others and compel them to take positive action. These
methods of persuasion are; ethos, pathos, and logos. On the flip side, the abolitionists also made
various types of claims (fact, value, and policy) as they delivered their rhetoric. This paper briefly
examines the effectiveness of the persuasion methods used as well as the appropriateness with
regard to the claims made. Pathos is a method of persuasion that tries to convince the audience by
targeting their emotions. Fredrick Douglas, in his speech what to the slave is the fourth of July?
Dominantly uses pathos as a method of persuasion. He states that he has been through slavery,
escaped from it, and now constantly fears going back to it (Douglas 3). The emotions that he elicits
through these observations gives him a solid platform on which to attack the emotions of the

Quality, Process, And Location Analysis Essay
Quality, Process, and Location Analysis
Without success there is no business. The goal for any organization is be successful. In order to be
a successful business, it is essential to explore the use of process management functions within the
operations management (OM) processes. Nissan, like most companies, has had their high and low
moments. Fortunately, they have been able to explore the use of process management functions to
help reach their goals and keep their business successful. Nissan has used the five steps associated
with Theory of Constraints (TOC ) and Total Quality Management (TQM) tools to help improve
quality overall within the business. Nissan has also been able to analyze data through cause and
effect diagrams, time function maps, and weighted averages to incorporate OM functions such as
new products and future expansions.
Theory of Constraints (TOC) is a group of data that deals with something that may limit or
constrain a business s ability to achieve their goals (Linton, 2016). TOC is the idea that the
weakest link will be the strongest you can be and when you improve the weakest link you will
improve the process overall. The key to improving the constraint or the weakest link is to be able to
recognize and manage those limitations with the five steps of TOC (Linton, 2016). The first step of
TOC is to identify the constraints. Nissan would need to identify its constraint, which is the
bottleneck in their production line. Step two

Madoff in 1960 with $5,000 that he had earned lifeguarding (A E Television Network, 2014).
Bernie also secured a loan from his father in law in the amount of $50,000 to further fund the
newly formed business. At this stage in his career, Bernie was making the firm s profits by
trading in penny stocks. He would receive requests to make investments from his clients. He
would then contact another investor or broker to seek out the best price. The difference between
what his clients were willing to pay and what he could buy for represented the profit. Even
during these early days in business Mr. Madoff practiced some shady business ethics. Mr.
Madoff began to have his father in law manage the new clients that he brought to invest with
Bernie (PBS.org, 2009). Bernie was also not licensed as an investment advisor for the number of
clients he had grown to serve. State and Federal securities regulation during the time period was
slack and Mr. Madoff was just one of many advisors without proper licensing. In rewarding those
that brought new investors to the firm, Bernard L. Madoff Securities, LLC grew exponentially.
Add to the equation an advantage given to the firm by its advanced computerized trading

When Religious Beliefs Overpower Human Rights
Free societies benefit from a separation of church and state, while others are greatly governed by a
combination of the two. The problem arises when religious beliefs overpower human rights, and
oppression takes over. At the center of its core, Buddhism emphasizes on meditation as the path
towards liberation of the wheel of samsara. To further my understanding, I chose to focus on a
Tibetan meditation practice known as Vajrayana, which is the most important practice from the
Theravada schools as a means to the liberation of all sentient beings, hence, eliminating oppression
and suffering (Lewis, 69). To gain a greater understanding and appreciation for this practice, I
participated in a meditation service and lecture given by Buddhist monk... Show more content on

According to Lopon Wandgu s lecture, visualization of self as an enlightened being is the reason
why one meditates. Empowerment, which comes from the embodiment of the five wisdoms of the
Buddha, allows for praise and offering through recitation (mantra), which rotates around the seed
syllable at the heart (Wandgu). Dissolution during meditation allows for the environment to be
melted into the seed syllable , finally melting into emptiness. During the final stages of meditation,
one must arise again as deity. The last part referred to as the dedication, requires the practitioner to
dedicate the merit [from the merit bank] of meditation to the benefit of all sentient beings
(Wandgu). After the main meditation section, the practitioner is required to try and keep the
feeling of being an intrinsic deity. Lopon Wangdu, stated that meditation is not for ourselves, but
for the liberation of all sentient beings and for the enlightenment of deities that are capable to
help other sentient beings. Lopon Wandgu explained that that are three types of practitioners,
inferior, middle person, and the superior. For the purposes of this paper, I will focus on the
superior level, because at this level one knows that we are all on the same samsara boat (Wandgu),
and the only way out is to help others reach a mind of enlightenment. In Vajarayana practice we
also take refuge in the Dharma protectors, who are highly advanced beings capable

Despite the fact that many small startup premium fruit drink companies stayed small or even

Snapple avoiding the fate of these other companies can be attributed to how successful it was in
utilizing the four Ps of marketing, especially product and promotion.
Of the four Ps, the marketing mix typically starts with the product, which is one area where Snapple

Finally, price is what a buyer must give up in order to obtain a product. It is often the most
flexible of the four Ps. Although not explicitly stated in the case study, I know from further
research that Snapple isn t significantly cheaper or more expensive than substitute products. The
average sixteen ounce bottle of Snapple is $1.50, which is comparable to what one would pay for
an Arizona iced tea or a bottle of Coca Cola. A significant advantage was not gained in this area.
In order for Mike Weinstein to regain the level of success that Snapple once enjoyed, he needs to
make a serious effort to return Snapple to its roots. First and foremost he needs to reestablish the
public relations and advertising strategies the company once used. Weinstein should reach out to
Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh, and Wendy Kaufman to again promote Snapple s products. He
needs to communicate to them how instrumental they would be in returning Snapple to its former
status among fruit drink companies. If he can t get these individuals on board, then Weinstein needs
to find suitable replacements that have similar personalities to the aforementioned spokespersons.
In addition, because today s society is so reliant on technology, he should advertise Snapple
products through various social media.

Judging by the Edgar Allan Poe quotes in your book you seem to be a fan of the author. What do
you think it is about his writing that made his work so iconic?
Poe was a haunted, melancholy man whose writing was raw and soul borne. While his
contemporaries were following the path to transcendentalism, he instead chose to write in the
gothic style. Perhaps it was to give the masses what they wanted: transcendentalism was an
intellectual, elevated form while gothic verses spoke to the everyday man and our preoccupation
with darkness and death.
Spooky tales, mournful epitaphs, tales of loss and longing and failure these were the types of
stories that spoke of humanity and mortality. They were dark but they were accessible. In a world
where sГ©ances were the entertainment of the day and where morbid death traditions were as
important as the rules of courtship, Poe was the ultimate storyteller.
His work survived the passage of time because, like Senza Fyne, his work was not constrained by
it. His work is truly timeless.

Second Language Acquisition ( Sla )
Second language acquisition (SLA) has long been a topic of interest for many researchers such as
linguists, psychologists, and educators. Through the study of SLA, researchers may better
understand the basic properties of languages, how languages are processed in the brain, and how to
facilitate the acquisition of a second language. A common topic of inquiry among SLA researchers
is why some people seem to learn new languages with ease while others do not. This question is
especially important to foreign language educators who want all of their students to succeed at
becoming proficient in a second language. In order to provide the proper support their students
need, educators must be aware of the many factors that influence SLA. In order to investigate why
some language learners appear to be more successful than others, researchers examine the
differences between individual learners. The current consensus among experts is that individual
learners learn differently depending on variables like learning opportunities, the motivation to learn,
individual differences and learning styles in second language acquisition(Bista, 2008, p. 2).
Therefore an individual s success is dependent on the combination of many factors. Educators may
attempt to determine an individual s chances at learning a language by measuring their language
aptitude. While researchers thus far failed to create a universal definition for language aptitude,
they have identified some aspects of

The Controversy In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies

of the Nobel judges, Artur Lundkvist, even spoke out against Golding because he did not think
Golding met Alfred Nobel s standards. The 1983 Nobel Literature Prize deserved to go to
William Golding because his writing, complex and obscure, met the requirements stated by Alfred

is selected in our society, but when the Academy selected Golding as the laureate in 1983, critics

erupted in the United States. Many Americans disapproved of Golding because he did not have a

Cultural Capital As An Agent Of Change Essay
When examining a family s history it is obvious that the many children have ended up with the
same level of education as their parents and ancestors. Children whose parents received tertiary
level education normally obtain a qualification from tertiary level education as well. This idea was
first questioned by Pierre Bourdieuwho introduced the concept of cultural capital. Cultural capital is
the skills that a person can use to their advantage in a social situation, especially in education. While
observing a classroom children were being dismissed because they did not speak the language, their
low cultural capital impacted their learning immensely; however, in another classroom I observed
the teacher being an agent of change. Striving to include every child in the lesson depict the diverse
range of cultural capital present. These two different situations impacted when the child was
present, how the children participated in class and their overall achievement.
Cultural capital is the ideas and knowledge that people draw upon and use as an asset in social
situations. As Lamont Lareau state the idea of cultural capital was introduced in the 1960s by
Pierre Bourdieu, a French sociologist, anthropologist and philosopher. The concept was originally
designed to explain why children from certain backgrounds would often repeat their family history
in education (Lamont Lareau). Bourdieu tried to explain the social inequalities in education in
during the 1960s in France. Children

Bismarck s decisions and policy effected the first World War when he used a series of conflicts to

The Main Ideas of Liberal Political Theory
Examine the main ideas of Liberal political theory
It is perhaps safe to say that the most prominent political philosophy in contemporary era is
liberalism. Liberalism is based on the ideas of liberal political theorists of the last three hundred
years. Among these ideas, the first and most important deals with the question of liberty. Political
theorists such as John Locke and John Stuart Mill argued that liberty of individual citizens must
be upheld by the state. Mill particularly stated that the state should be liberal by default. The
burden of proving that liberty should be restricted or prohibited should lie on the states. Unless
they can provide such proof, all citizens should by presumption be at liberty. Locke, Rousseau,
and Hobbes stated that liberty could be restricted under certain circumstances. For instance, when
the state is threatened by a revolt, and since the state is the guarantor of liberty of all its subjects,
the state is justified in curtailing some liberal policies but temporarily. The government under
liberal political theory is viewed as a necessary evil. The theory suggests that the power and the
role of the state should be minimized. There should also be a balance of power in the state.
Democracy is essential for liberal political theory. Citizens should enjoy both liberty and the
freedom to elect or, in the absence of liberal political order, overthrow the government. But the
liberties of citizens cannot be guaranteed in a state of anarchy.

insecurity (Bonebright, 2010, p. 114), so providing a strong support system an reassurance can help
move a group to the next phase.
As members of the group begin to feel safe and secure, the conflict will settle and the group will
develop a bond and unified goals. Labeled a period of norming, it is characterized by close
relationships and cohesiveness (Group Development, 2003). In fact, this stage is so
characterized by relationship that it could almost be viewed as a honeymoon phase. Group
members will frequently set aside differences and unity becomes a priority. It is important at this
stage to emphasize honesty and creativity because the group will likely be trying so hard to be
amenable that some members may hold back. Others will be ready to open up given their
newfound sense of security within the group. This is also a critical time for the group because it
typically delineates a time to commit (Johnson Johnson, 2016). If a group reaches this stage and
not all members are on board, it may hinder progress.
Once a group has developed cohesiveness, it will truly begin to produce. This phase of
effectiveness is titled performing according to Tuckman s model. At this stage, the group is a
problem solving instrument , capable of working through obstacles and accomplishing goals
(Bonebright, 2010, p. 114). Is it not uncommon for groups

Her motheralways helped her when Mercedes asked the shadows to guide her. When Mercedes
would sit on her mother s chair that was gifted on her wedding; she would feel that her mother is

When Joseph Stalin Took Over Russia After Lenin By 1928,
When Joseph Stalin took over Russia after Lenin by 1928, the country s policy on how it was
going to industrialize changed. Stalin said, We are fifty or a hundred years behind the advanced
countries. We must make good this distance in ten years. Either we do it, or we shall go under.
12 Stalin believed that if the USSR did not industrialize then it would be the death of them
because they will be vulnerable both economically and militarily. Stalin said, Everything can be
achieved, everything can be overcome, if there is a passionate desire for it. 13 By saying this
Stalin is reassuring the people with doubt that this goal can be accomplished. In order for this
seemingly impossible task to be accomplished passionate soviets would be... Show more content on

The difference between Lenin and Stalin was that Stalin wanted this all done in ten years so he
was more drastic than Lenin. Peasants were not at all pleased because they liked how they were
prospering before, so to retaliate they burned their crops and slaughtered their livestock as to
sabotage what the central government was trying to do and how they were trying to get it
done.18 The slaughter of livestock and burning of crops led to the famine of 1931 1932 that
caused the death of five to seven million people.19 The Ukraine was especially hit hard by
famine it was not unusual for families to starve and stay alive for as long as they could then
they would just die.20 The famine caused so many deaths that trains were needed to collect
corpses from peasant villages who had died from starvation .21 In extreme cases, although not
too uncommon, families would turn to cannibalism to stay alive. Some families even murdered
their children and would eat them in order to continue on living.22 In order to get the actual
work done Stalin made changes in society. One change was the conditions of labor, now forced
labor was the norm and it was always intensely disciplined.23 There were life and death incentives
to having a job. If someone was fired from their job then they were

Essay on My Hero
My Hero What is a hero? In my view a hero is someone that you admire. You may admirer them
for their achievements, outlooks in life or maybe just because they are famous. In this case I
admire my hero for his courage and his determination all through his personal life and his career.
This story begins in Bellshill near Glasgow 24th September 1962 where a Glaswegian boy was
born. His parents Alexander and May called their miracle Alistair Murdoch McCoist. If only his
parents had known the difference this baby boy would make to Scottish football in years to come.
At the age of 16 Ally left His High School Hunter high to take up a career in football after his
chemistry teacher Archie Robertson noticed him and took him to... Show more content on

These came around in the semi final of the 91/92 Scottish Cup once again against Celtic. The
Gers were down to 10 men and playing the worst football in the clubs history. Shortly after half
time Ally coolly scores the winning goal. After this wonderful period, Rangers begin to struggle.
As a result a new manager was brought in to the club and the fight to victory begins. Rangers
then win 10 leagues in a row with the help of Mc Coist s goal scoring phenomenon. Every time
Ally was off the bench (which was almost every game) he scored at least one goal. New
manager Greame Souness then formed The Mo Partnership with Ally and Maurice Johnson a
fellow midfielder. The two of them were amazing together and were practically un defietable.
Greame Souness and Ally then had a disagreement and the striker was constantly on the bench,
not understanding why! This was when an unwanted nickname of Ally s appeared he was known
as The Judge this was also partly because Mark Hately had joined the team and was some
competition for the Mr Mc Coist s spot on the champion side. Unfortunately Ally s career at
Rangers was beginning to come to a stand still. To show how much he was loved at Rangers
42,000 people packed into the newly refurbished Ibrox stadium for his testimonial in August 93.
After his testimonial news was heard that surprisingly his career

The code talkers were sworn to secrecy, an oath they kept and honored, (new mexico senator Jeff

The code was unbreakable only the people who knew how to speak the code understood it. They
used words from the language then the translation was different from the military words. For
example the english word for gini is really chickenhawk, but for the military cade it means dive
bomber. There are several other codes to like the army alphabet code its where they take the first
letter of each word to make a different word or phrase. For example Alpha Romeo Mike Yankee
Alpha lima papa hotel alpha bravo echo tango. Which means army alphabet. The number code is
sorta as the alphabet code they don t change the words for the letter very much for example 1 is
wun and 2 is too.

  • 5. The Fear Of Fear In The Salem Witch Trials Throughout history fear causes people to act in a way that is today is thought of as absurd. In the Salem Witch trials, people commit murder for what they believe to be dangerous, yet they were acts of the fear of the unknown. Within the Puritan belief, the followers are so scared of the wrath of God that they will take radical action to prove they are good Christians. Hysteria can cause groups of people to come together and act upon a radical belief that can lead to a point of ignorance of reality. While fear itself is a healthy emotion, irrational fears cause people to take irrational actions. In The Science of Fear by Daniel Gardner, the aspects of human s response to fear are explained in four different groups. When people experience fear, naturally they come together with the people who share similar beliefs (Gardner 15). Gardner describes this gravitation as group polarization and with this comes confirmation bias. When the groups of people come together with the bias they hold to be true if confirmed and strengthened by those who share them (Gardner 15). The actions of these groups are based on the two systems of thinking. System one thinking is fast, involving feelings and emotions. Whereas system two thinking is based on reason and logic within one s actions (Gardner 15). However, the actions caused by fear are sometimes out of the thought of fear rather than the reality of it. It was not the fairy king, Oberon, who made them fall deeply in love with each other, as is the case with the former pair of paramours. Instead, Hermia and Lysander fell in love naturally, and in a gradual fashion. This proves their love to be true, as a person cannot fall in love with another in a brief period of time. Love is piecemeal, and takes numerous hours, if not years, for two people to become paramours. Either way, their anti slavery rhetoric was meant to move people and galvanize them to fight for a better tomorrow where equality would take charge and the issue of slavery would be no more. To accomplish this, these abolitionists utilized a variety of methods of persuasion within their rhetoric so as to be able to more effectively influence others and compel them to take positive action. In order to be a successful business, it is essential to explore the use of process management functions within the operations management (OM) processes. Nissan, like most companies, has had their high and low moments. Fortunately, they have been able to explore the use of process management functions to help reach their goals and keep their business successful. Nissan has used the five steps associated with Theory of Constraints (TOC ) and Total Quality Management (TQM) tools to help improve quality overall within the business. Nissan has also been able to analyze data through cause and effect diagrams, time function maps, and weighted averages to incorporate OM functions such as new products and future expansions. Theory of Constraints (TOC) is a group of data that deals with something that may limit or constrain a business s ability to achieve their goals (Linton, 2016). TOC is the idea that the weakest link will be the strongest you can be and when you improve the weakest link you will improve the process overall. The key to improving the constraint or the weakest link is to be able to recognize and manage those limitations with the five steps of TOC (Linton, 2016). The first step of TOC is to identify the constraints. Nissan would need to identify its constraint, which is the bottleneck in their production line. Step two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The problem arises when religious beliefs overpower human rights, and oppression takes over. At the center of its core, Buddhism emphasizes on meditation as the path towards liberation of the wheel of samsara. To further my understanding, I chose to focus on a Tibetan meditation practice known as Vajrayana, which is the most important practice from the Theravada schools as a means to the liberation of all sentient beings, hence, eliminating oppression and suffering (Lewis, 69). According to Lopon Wandgu s lecture, visualization of self as an enlightened being is the reason why one meditates. Empowerment, which comes from the embodiment of the five wisdoms of the Buddha, allows for praise and offering through recitation (mantra), which rotates around the seed syllable at the heart (Wandgu). Dissolution during meditation allows for the environment to be melted into the seed syllable , finally melting into emptiness. During the final stages of meditation, one must arise again as deity. The last part referred to as the dedication, requires the practitioner to dedicate the merit [from the merit bank] of meditation to the benefit of all sentient beings (Wandgu). After the main meditation section, the practitioner is required to try and keep the feeling of being an intrinsic deity. Lopon Wangdu, stated that meditation is not for ourselves, but for the liberation of all sentient beings and for the enlightenment of deities that are capable to help other sentient beings. Lopon Wandgu explained that that are three types of practitioners, inferior, middle person, and the superior. For the purposes of this paper, I will focus on the superior level, because at this level one knows that we are all on the same samsara boat (Wandgu), and the only way out is to help others reach a mind of enlightenment. • 36. Second Language Acquisition ( Sla ) Second language acquisition (SLA) has long been a topic of interest for many researchers such as linguists, psychologists, and educators. Through the study of SLA, researchers may better understand the basic properties of languages, how languages are processed in the brain, and how to facilitate the acquisition of a second language. A common topic of inquiry among SLA researchers is why some people seem to learn new languages with ease while others do not. This question is especially important to foreign language educators who want all of their students to succeed at becoming proficient in a second language. In order to provide the proper support their students need, educators must be aware of the many factors that influence SLA. In order to investigate why some language learners appear to be more successful than others, researchers examine the differences between individual learners. The current consensus among experts is that individual learners learn differently depending on variables like learning opportunities, the motivation to learn, individual differences and learning styles in second language acquisition(Bista, 2008, p. 2). Therefore an individual s success is dependent on the combination of many factors. Educators may attempt to determine an individual s chances at learning a language by measuring their language aptitude. Cultural Capital As An Agent Of Change Essay When examining a family s history it is obvious that the many children have ended up with the same level of education as their parents and ancestors. Children whose parents received tertiary level education normally obtain a qualification from tertiary level education as well. This idea was first questioned by Pierre Bourdieuwho introduced the concept of cultural capital. Cultural capital is the skills that a person can use to their advantage in a social situation, especially in education. While observing a classroom children were being dismissed because they did not speak the language, their low cultural capital impacted their learning immensely; however, in another classroom I observed the teacher being an agent of change. Striving to include every child in the lesson depict the diverse range of cultural capital present. These two different situations impacted when the child was present, how the children participated in class and their overall achievement. Cultural capital is the ideas and knowledge that people draw upon and use as an asset in social situations. As Lamont Lareau state the idea of cultural capital was introduced in the 1960s by Pierre Bourdieu, a French sociologist, anthropologist and philosopher. The concept was originally designed to explain why children from certain backgrounds would often repeat their family history in education (Lamont Lareau). • 42. The Main Ideas of Liberal Political Theory Examine the main ideas of Liberal political theory It is perhaps safe to say that the most prominent political philosophy in contemporary era is liberalism. Liberalism is based on the ideas of liberal political theorists of the last three hundred years. Among these ideas, the first and most important deals with the question of liberty. Political theorists such as John Locke and John Stuart Mill argued that liberty of individual citizens must be upheld by the state. Mill particularly stated that the state should be liberal by default. The burden of proving that liberty should be restricted or prohibited should lie on the states. Unless they can provide such proof, all citizens should by presumption be at liberty. Locke, Rousseau, and Hobbes stated that liberty could be restricted under certain circumstances. For instance, when the state is threatened by a revolt, and since the state is the guarantor of liberty of all its subjects, the state is justified in curtailing some liberal policies but temporarily. The government under liberal political theory is viewed as a necessary evil. The theory suggests that the power and the role of the state should be minimized. There should also be a balance of power in the state. Democracy is essential for liberal political theory. Citizens should enjoy both liberty and the freedom to elect or, in the absence of liberal political order, overthrow the government. But the liberties of citizens cannot be guaranteed in a state of anarchy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Labeled a period of norming, it is characterized by close relationships and cohesiveness (Group Development, 2003). In fact, this stage is so characterized by relationship that it could almost be viewed as a honeymoon phase. Group members will frequently set aside differences and unity becomes a priority. It is important at this stage to emphasize honesty and creativity because the group will likely be trying so hard to be amenable that some members may hold back.
