Culture Of Kuwait Culture
Kuwait Culture The term culture is one of those words that we use routinely, but what is it exactly?
Basically, culture is the multipart overall of a society which includes everything that gives a society
an identity. Culture may consist of customs, languages, and religion beliefs amid other
characteristics that are ordinary to people of a nation/region. What is predominantly interesting
about cultures is that each culture, no matter where it is located, shares at least five basic
characteristics. However, every culture has its own distinct characteristics that differentiate it from
the others. One of such cultures is the Kuwaitculture. This culture awareness essay will attempt to
emphasis on cultural aspects of the people of Kuwait while drawing your attention to the social
culture annalists of Kuwait nation/region s physical geography, weather analysts, current and
passed military conflicts and its impact on the society, and their civil concern. The Kuwaiti culture
is dominant in Kuwait where the people originate. They were primary drawn to the Kuwait Bay
region because of the resources from the sea, and majority of the population still lives within a
short distance of the first coastal colonies. Kuwait exists in the middle east which borders the
Persian Gulf, sandwiched between Saudi Arabiaand Iraq. (Orientation pg.05) The landscape of
Kuwait varies slightly, between flat and somewhat rolling desert plains. Kuwait s flat deserts cover
ancient rock formations

Love In The Story Of A Short Story
Frederic Henry arrives at an American hospital in Milan where he meets Ms. Gage, a nurse who
he later befriends. At the hospital, the superintendent, Miss Van Campen, immediately dislikes
Frederic, and prohibits him from drinking alcohol with his meals, which he disregards. The next
day, Catherine Barkley comes to visit Frederic at the hospital and they rekindle their romance.
Later, a doctor comes and checks Frederic s leg. He advises Frederic to wait until his leg has
healed six months before they operate, but Frederic is impatient, and asks the opinion of
another doctor, Dr.Valentini. Dr. Valentini says that Frederic can be operated on the next day.
The night of the operation, Catherine visits Frederic in his hospital room. Catherine is overly
sweet and vows to do whatever Frederic wants. Frederic s surgery goes well. In the summertime,
while Frederic s leg is healing, Catherine and Frederic enjoy a number of romantic dates
involving horse drawn carriages, fine wines and long walks. In the midst of one of their dates,
Frederic brings up marriage. Catherine admits that she feels as if she is already married, and
wishes to stay unmarried in order to stay close to the front where Frederic is stationed. One day
in the summertime, Frederic and Catherine and a few of their friends decide to go to the races.
There, they bet on horses and find out that the racing in Milan was very crooked. In September,
Frederic sees that fighting at the front has gotten bad, but to distract himself from the war news
he reads the news on baseball. He later sees Catherine who tells him she is three months along
with a child. Frederic is ecstatic about the child. A day later, Frederic is sick with jaundice. That
same day, Miss Van Campen finds several bottles of brandy in Frederic s closet. She scolds him,
thinking that he self inflicted the disease to escape the front. Frederic tells her he didn t, but she
still sends him to the front immediately. Frederic prepares to leave Milan. He buys a pistol, says
goodbye to the nurses, and spends his last few hours in a hotel with Catherine. Section II: Quotes

John Piper Essay
The author, John Piper, is a retired pastor, author, and theologian. Piper wants his readers to
know that the goal of preaching is the glory of God (21). Piper also states that the ground of
preaching is the cross of Christ, and the gift of preaching comes from the power of the Holy
Spirit (23). Piper accomplishes his goal within both parts of the book. Part one is dedicated to
why God should be supreme in preaching, and part two is how to make God supreme in
preaching. This a great book for students, pastors, and those within the church. Piper reminds his
audience that God is the focus of preaching and nothing else. This review will summarize,
review, and critique the work while providing a conclusion. Summary The purpose and thesis is
clearly defined as Piper writes, For God aims to exalt himself, not the preacher, in this affair of
preaching. And that brings us to the theme: the supremacy of God in preaching (23). God is the
goal and ground of preaching, and the means by which men preach is the Holy Spirit (23). Piper
goes on to state that he has a burden to plead for the glory of God in preaching with the grand
object of preaching to be the infinite and inexhaustible being of God (24). Piper accomplishes his
goal by dividing the book into two parts. Piper focuses on why God should be supreme... Show

Man is sinful and estranged from God, and God is so holy that man cannot be reconciled to
Him. There is only one solution and that is the cross of Christ. This is what preachers must
proclaim to dead and lost sinners. That is the only hope unbelievers have. Piper states, Preaching
would not be valid without the cross (36). Preaching the cross of Christ will also keep a preacher
humble because it has the power to convict of sin so that one may turn away from sin. In other
words, proclaiming the cross of Christ is central to any preacher s

Canyon Descriptive Writing
It was 1 hour before dawn. The thick gloomy grey blanket rolled through the towering canyon.
The canyon walls loomed overhead as the razor blade ridges were sticking out. At the far end of
the dark misty canyon is where the wall rose. The high reaching wall outstretched the length of the
canyon leaving an impenetrable metal wall. A slight breeze whirled through the bottom of the
treacherous canyon lifting the smell of the rotting dead. The screeching screams and shrieks of the
savage demons were heard from the far.
On top of the wall, the nervous army scattered around trying to get in position. Grabbing their
weapons and clutching them till their hands went white with fear. They could hear the screeching
screams of the demons hiding behind

Birth Culture Summary
How is one s identity constructed when they have the blood of one culture, but are raised under the
upbringing of another? Dr. Changfu Chang and his research assistants Zhuojan Joyce Chen and
April Chatham Carpenter, conducted extensive research on the way in which several Chinese and
Korean adoptees have journeyed to find their birth parents in China. This journey is the result of
adoptees looking to fill in the missing cultural gap, while stilling trying to identify with their
American adoptive families upbringing. Constructing and Negotiating Identity in Birth Culture: An

Chang s argument was supported in the article for birth family once again through his vivid
encounter and documentation of Eline. Elines inability to connect with her birth family caused
severe distress, anxiety and frustration, which would often force her to seem withdrawn from her

was able to provided sufficient evidence that connections to and expectations for birth parents
plays a significant role on an adoptees identity as he explained that Eline, became stable and
confident, and there were no missing pieces of her life, once she met her birth family several years
later. Dr. Changs adequate use of direct quotations said by both Eline and her family, make it
undeniably difficult to argue that some sort of closure or connection must be made with the birth

The Pledge Of Allegiance And Star Spangled Banner
The Pledge of Allegiance and Star Spangled Banner are examples of compulsive patriotism in
America that not everyone can see. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner are
orthodoxes Americans have recited for many years since they were created during the 1800 s.
The Pledge of Allegiance was practiced everyday in the beginning of class, starting at
kindergarten, having all the students and teachers participate. I do not call to mind ever
learning about what the pledge signified or meant. Never did I ask myself why we said this
pledge of allegiance every single day, it was just a mandatory order of each day. The Star
Spangled Banner is the national anthem that is recited before sporting events and official
government procedures. Both are traditions in America that show pride for their country, it s
freedom, and history. Since the Pledge of Allegiance was something that was recited every
single school morning, it did not have much importance to me and just became a school routine,
you stand up, place your hand on your heart, say the words, and sit down. Even at one point it
became annoying to me because it was something that was sort of being forced. If you were to
not fully participate you would be scolded by the teacher or given a look. Now that I am older I
have learned more about what it means and understand that it has an emotional meaning to some
Americans. The Pledge of Allegiance is a patriotic vow to the United Statesto remain loyal and
obedient to the country that offers freedom and justice for all. But why do young kids have to
say the Pledge of Allegiance? I believe students should be taught the history behind the pledge
and what every line in it means and denotes. In addition, the students should be at a more mature
age before having to make this promise. Rosenbaum said The America I feel allegiance to isn t
the America that requires compulsory displays of loyalty (Rosenbaum, 56). I agree with what he
said because America is supposedly the land of the free but those free who do not participate are
frowned upon and called un american or unpatriotic. I have even seen people being told to leave the
country for having different opinions and beliefs. Rosenbaum actually compared

Introduction
AS we are all know public health deals with identifying and preventing the disease among the
community . Public health refers to the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and
promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public
and private, communities and individuals. It is concerned with threats to health based on
population health analysis. Some of the events that played a major role in the improvement of
public health are immunization , flouridation of drinking water to prevent dental caries , family
planning and so on .
Body
Let us see about the two major events that played a major role in the public health along with the
evolution of science .They are Flouridation of Drinking water and Family planning .
FLUORIDATION OF DRINKING WATER
Fluoridation of group drinking water is a main consideration in charge of the decrease in dental
caries (tooth rot) . The historical backdrop of water fluoridation is a great case of clinical perception
prompting epidemiologic examination and group based general wellbeing intercession. Albeit other
fluoride containing items are accessible, water fluoridation remains the most fair and practical
strategy for conveying fluoride to all individuals from most groups, paying little respect to age,

Summary Of Disney And His Worlds
For the critical book review, I have chosen to read Disney and His Worlds by Alan Bryman.
Within the book Bryman gives an extensive background of Walt Disney and how his park,
Disneyland, came to be. Although this book wasn t an enormous read, since the book was only
194 pages of text, I still had trouble sitting down and trying to finish the book. I felt that the book
had much of the same information that I am being taught in class and what I m reading in the
other assigned textbooks. Disney and His Worlds was an interesting read overall, and I did enjoy
reading the bits of information that I did not know already. One of the first pieces of information
that I learned about Walt Disneyis that not everything he did was perfect. I already knew that he
didn t start off with a lot of money and that he had to borrow a giant sum to help get Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs off the ground. Within the book, Bryman explains that Snow White and
the Seven Dwarfs was a success with the public and that Walt had make back more than enough
money. What I didn t realize was that all of his movies were not a huge success. For example,
Bryman states that, ...both Fantasia and Pinnochio performed poorly at the box office...and the
response to Bambi was disappointing (pg 9 11). I find it fascinating that Walt s first movie did
extremely well, but most of the others flopped. I had not realized sooner that Walt did not have
consistent success after he produced Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

sources say that Steven Yeun has been spotted filming the series still and of course that wouldn t be

This is if The Walking Dead follows the same story line that the comic books did, which they have
stayed pretty close to so far. If Glenn was dead, Steven Yeun would not have been spotted with Paul
at Hilltop colony.
One theory is that Steven Yeun could be simply there filming flashbacks. If he was doing that, then
Yeun would not have been spotted with Paul and at Hilltop. This one would be pretty hard for
them to explain. The show should have done a better job of hiding their filming from watchful eyes
of fans that do not want Glenn to be gone.
IB Times did share one thing that has fans confused a bit about the fate of Glenn. Steven Yeun has
cut his hair since wrapping up this part of the show according to Michael Traynor, who played
Nicholas. He shared saying that they got haircuts together.
We did it together. That s kind of how we celebrated the day. We went to the barber shop. We got a
little trim. It was good.
If this is the case, then Steven Yeun s character could be coming back without his long signature
locks that haven t been cut. The thing is Traynor might just be doing a great job of tricking the fans
into thinking that Glenn didn t survive just like his

The violence would be caused by mutual hatred which prevails between two different groups of
the people. The poet goes about looking for the places where this violence might break out.
Violence would lead to killings; and the poet looks for the possible places where death might raise
its head.
Dead Bodies Kept in the Mortuary:
The poet then speaks about the mortuary where the persons killed in violence would be taken
and kept for post mortem or for identification by the relatives who would naturally like to take
away those dead bodies in order to bury them or cremate them, as the case may be. If kept in a
mortuary even for a few days, a dead body begins to stink because of the decomposition which
takes place. Not even the sweet smelling substances like rose water and flowers can drown that foul
smell. There is, in the mortuary, the dead body of a woman whose husband had cut off her nose on
a suspicion of her having adulterous relations with another man. After having cut off her nose he
had even stabbed her in breast, thus puncturing her lungs.
The Human Capacity for Adjustment:
Man, says the poet, can adjust himself to different conditions. For example, a dead man, if buried
in the earth, remains there firmly. If the same man were to be cremated, he would allow the fire to
consume him quickly. If the dead body were thrown to the birds (like the vultures and the kites), he
would let his flesh be eaten up without

The Importance Of Individualism In Society
Being an individual means to be free from society. Mark Twain portrays in his satiric novel, The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, published in 1884 in the Antebellum South in Mississippi, 14
year old protagonist exposes the immorality of white society. The author s purpose is to criticize
the racism, slavery, and the hypocrisy that existed in the white civilized society in order to enact
social change. Walt Whitmanportrays in his free verse poem Song Of Myself from the collection
Leaves Of Grass published in 1855 that everyone in the universe has a purpose and that purpose
is to be a part of nature. Whitman might express the idea to Twain that everyone in the pre Civil
War era is a part of nature and find solutions from it; therefore everyone has to value nature because
it represents the higher power. James McPherson, author of The Best Government on God s
Footstool, claims in his historical account, What We Fought For, during the Civil War is that why
did they fight. McPherson wrote similarly as Whitman in his writing, What We Fought For, that
informed his readers that both sides fought for their own way of freedom and both had equal
sacrifices. During a time of cultural turmoil the text made by Twain, Whitman and McPherson
expresses ideas of individualism and society when an individual does not conform to society s
expectations during the 19th century.
In Mark Twains The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, Twain s character Huck thinks freedom is

It is quite unfortunate that most companies management only deals with the administrative,
marketing and sales, and the production part of the company business, but felt the IT operations
should be left solely to the IT personnel. In the long run, according to this chapter, the information
security aspect of the company will suffer and remain underdeveloped because of lack of attention.
However, if there is any security breach or attack, the top management will be the first point of
contact. The top management will be held accountable and responsible for not adhering to the
business practices.
This chapter emphasizes on the need for management to assign responsibilities and also to make
sure that adequate funds are available for the kick off of security programs and its implementation.
Management role and support cannot be overemphasized when it comes to the issue of security
management.
This chapter also addresses the way decisions on security issue should be channeled. This chapter
advised that security program should be driven in a top down approach. In this case, the top
management will drive, , support and give directions for the security program, which will then be
passed over to the middle management staff and then to member staffs.
Also, this chapter illustrates how the control measure should be designed to make sure that access
are well managed and monitored. With this, the chapter went further explaining the three types of

Help Aging Adults Cope with the Process Concept of Death
According to the USA QuickFacts (2014) the age of elderly people begins at the age of 65, and
the U.S elderly population comprises of 13.7%. The elderly will outweigh any other aged
population and it is necessary to established resources for the elderly to access. Participants will be
encouraged to establish new relationships with other group members, as well as come to terms with
relationships they once valued.
Purpose and Rationale
The purpose of this group is to help aging adults cope with the process concept of death and coping
with the end of life to which an existential approach will be applied. The everyday aging adult
faces many challenges that have to do with the process of aging, such as loss of certain
privileges (e.g. driving), loss of vision and hearing, loss of friends and family, loss of freedom,
just to name a few. One of the resources to be established is existential group counseling for the
elderly. In existential group counseling, members will explore their purpose and meaning of life.
The World Factbook (2014) states the average life expectancy for males is 76.19 years old,
where for females it is 81.17 years old. As the elderly population increases, resources for the
elderly population appear to be nonexistent when researching for programs or activities. This
means people are getting older and living longer without adequate resources. By 2025, as the U.S.
elderly population nearly doubles, the number of working age adults and children will increase

Birdboot is a proletarian moron, just the sort of person they like to imagine when they think of a

Moon is the other type of critic, the sort who does waffle about the meaning of life and reality in

audience have worked out from just a few lines of speech, Moon defines his opposite as Higgs,
leaving Birdboot out of the question. The audiences now how some time to scoff at Stoppard s

Summary Of Ma Joad In The Grapes Of Wrath
Ma Joad is the driving force. She is determined to get to California, because she believes that life
will be better in California. Because she is so keen on getting to California, she often tries to
take the power of the family, and take the man s job. Ma believes that the family will get to
California only with the desire of everyone involved, and only if everyone participates in making
it happen. She keeps motivation strong throughout the entire book. Even though she often confines
herself to gender roles, she is often able to take power to motivate the group to move on, even in
the toughest situations. Occasionally when the Joads and company are not motivated to do
something Ma will step up and take control of the group, even though that is Pa s role. In one case
she grabbed a jackhammer, and the eyes of the whole familyshifted back to Ma. She was the
power. She had taken control (169). Although Ma taking power like this is frightening to the
Joads, it is the only way that the Joads are able to make it to California together. In this case Ma
is opposing moving on, but the words of the group encourage Ma to look at the other side and she

Counseling For Alcohol And Drug Abuse
In Counseling for Alcohol and Drug Abuse, the need to use different techniques is an integral part
of the process. Working with an individual that is either entering into recovery or actively in
recovery, the clinician must take their time with introducing the 12 Steps. The individual may not
be open to the 12 Step philosophies at the onset. Addictionis very complex and actively affects the
person on a daily basis; therefore, it is so important to start from the beginning of counseling to
create a structured program. Alcoholics Anonymoushas given a wonderful platform of structure for
the addicted ones to create a safe, solid, 12 Step guideline to follow, in order to maintain Continual
Sobriety, One day at a time. Many counselors... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these false beliefs are that 12 Step programs are Cults, they are for old people, they are
religious, they brainwash people, sometimes they make you want to drink or use after going to a
meeting. These notions are false and inaccurate. It is usually individuals that have gone to the
meetings for a short amount of time and they are unable to sustain consistency. These individuals
do not get involved in service and they often return to using drugs or drinking again due to not
being done, with using substances. In the therapy interaction, these misconceptions must be heard
by the therapist and given ample time in counseling to talk about and unpacked, for further
qualification. This may take time and patients to hear these feelings and to process with the client.
In facilitating effective treatment while counseling, it is imperative that a person be listened to
and validated for their feelings. It is the counselor s job to find an opening to interject and
challenge the client to see how thorough they were in their attempt to gain sobriety. Usually in
doing this, the clinician is able to allow the client to see some of the half measures they took at
these past attempts and failures. In the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous in How it Works, it
reads, Half measures availed us nothing. We stood at the turning point, we asked His protection and
care with complete abandon. These are the areas that allow

Relationship Between Centralization And Decentralization
Does adopting Centralization guarantees rises on firms productivity?
Introduction
Centralization can be explained by that authority to make important decisions lies towards the head
or centre of an organization (Cummings, 1995), the decision making actions are usually done by
the top managers in hierarchical pyramid. While Decentralization, on the contrary, aims on raising
employee empowerment and let the low level manager engages in decision making. In the modern
market circumstances, most of the firms adopt centralization as the structure of firms. However, a
hierarchical structure with a top manager, department managers, is this structure guarantees high
productivity so that many of firms in market choose to use centralization as their structure?
In light of the phenomenon, the objective of this essay will be focus on investigates the relation

Inupiat man. Though masks are used for stories and ceremonies, they also serve as a method of
keeping the spirits away from the recently deceased. Enter Inupiat mask culture. A intricate craft,

the iconic death mask typically does not have eye holes. The belief behind this is that the eye

An interesting part of Inupiat masks culture is that they were typically kept around to be used

Analysis Of The Narrative The Of The Farm
Sylvia is the protagonist of the narrative. From her name alone one can gather that she is a very
rural girl, her name meaning woodsy. She is a young, nine year old girl, previously from a busy
manufacturing town who moves in with her grandmother to a calm, peaceful farm. Sylvia has a
true bond with nature and it seemed as if she never had been alive at all before she came to live at
the farm (Jewett 527). Her youth and love for nature make Sylvia such an innocent girlwho does not
have to experience society since she is protected by the farm. The farm is her safe haven, where
she can be independent and truly be one with nature. Although she is marginalized since she is
poor, a girl, and less focused on the outside society, she finds happiness in being excluded.
The narrative takes place in a rural community where Sylvia and her grandmother live that
represents their independence, womanhood, and peace. Their community is made up of women, and
it is very calm. Sylvia in this community finds peace compared to her old home in the
manufacturing city she states, this was a beautiful place to live in and that she never should wish
to go home (Jewett 527). In her new home Sylvia also found that she had independence and
freedom, she had all the time in the world to wander. Often times Sylvia would go out and explore
her community, there was never such a child for straying about out doors since the world was
made (Jewett 527). Sylvia and her grandmother have such a peaceful

Restoring And Improving Urban Infrastructure
The Engineering Grand Challenge of restoring and improving urban infrastructure involves a
foundation of challenges faced by architectural engineers today. Specifically, it is about repairing
the infrastructure of a society, including its power grids, water infrastructure, roads, bridges,
sustainable structures, and anything that provides support to our thriving lifestyle. Admittedly,
improving infrastructureis an important challenge that can be fixed if there are new systems put in
place that allow for improvement at any time in the future. The challenge of restoring and
improving an urban infrastructure can be accomplished, but there need to be technological
advances, and support from the government. Equally important is the need for programs with
sufficient financial resources that can provide for a more up to date installation of the various
components of an urban infrastructure. Perhaps, the best way to solve the Grand Challenge of
restoring and improving infrastructure would be to apply the new technologies that have been
investigated and tested the most, and put them into action. There is no doubt that the infrastructure
from the 20th century has been a great accomplishment, however, we have pushed the problem of
improving and restoring the infrastructure off for years, when it is in current need of repair.
Moving forward, it is a necessity that our old infrastructure be replaced and re engineered the best it
can be. Additionally, infrastructure needs to be built

Diels Alder Reaction
The Diels Alder Reaction is an addition reaction between a 1,3 diene and a dienophile. In this
reaction, furan, the diene, reacted with maleic anhydride, the dienophile, to form exo 7

Black Men And Public Spaces Analysis
Staples, Black Men and Public Spaces, and Ivan s, Get a Knife Get a Dog but Get Rid of Guns, are
two different stories who barely share any of the same information except for people being in
harm. Staple s story about his life experiences of being a man who is feared when walking into a
jewelry store seemed different from a woman trying to get pro gunpeople to switch to knives
instead for their safety. From the two stories, I pulled out one thing in my mind that could pull
them together as far as their topics go. Ivan says that if you have a knife, you need to be near the
person to be able to stab them. Staples says that being seen as dangerous can be a hazard for
him. I view this as if someone were to have a gun, and Staples were to turn a corner, would they
shoot him out of fear? If they had a knife, they would only being able to stab him if Staples were
actually up close to them causing harm. Will having knives help people like Staples not to be
harmed just because someone thought he looked harmful? In Black Men and Public Spaces, I
think Staples is talking to the people who fear black men, especially in public spaces. When
walking down a road at night, it is easy to be afraid of the black manwalking your way, and Staples
is trying to explain that they are not all dangerous. I also think that Staples is talking to other men
who can relate to his stories. I feel he is sharing his so that they know that they are not alone.

Good Vs Evil In The Searchers
The movie The Searchers is an excellent representation of the movie genre: Western Films. From
the action filled scenes to the time period it set in, there s many components of this film that
heavily qualify it as a traditional western film. Furthermore, It was directed by John Ford and the
lead actor was John Wayne, two very influential people in the making of westernfilm.
In this film, John Wayne plays Uncle Ethan a civil war veteran who is returning home. Shortly
after his return an indian tribe, the Comanches, raided his family s home and took his niece. This
movie shows the year long journey Ethan took to find his niece and retrieve her from the indians

There are many ways that this film fit itself into the Western film genre. One of the most common
components of western film is the the concept of good versus evil. The good is the cowboys and
the evil is the Indians. The movie The Searchers, has many good vs. Evil fights. In the scene

The Importance Of The Uniform Commercial Code
The Uniform Commercial Code is a set of legal rules that was developed to bring about a sense of
consistency to the commercial industry. It is merely a blueprint of how the developers interpret the
way of doing business that would be fair and just to all parties concerned. It was totally up to the
individual states if they would enact the UCC as written or construct modifications they felt were
necessary to circumstances within that state. Once the codes were adopted by an individual state,
they became the legal authority that still governs the way many business transactions are handled
today. The Uniform Commercial Codehas been one of the standards for doing business in North
Carolina since 1965. Over the years, there have been changes and modifications to the originally
adopted code; but, it is important to note that the basics of justice and fairness to all parties
involved, have remained the same. As important as the UCC is to commerce today, it is by no
means the only law governing business. Prior to the adoption of the UCC, the legal authority for
just about every aspect of life business or personal has been Common Law. Although the UCC
encompasses the ways of commerce today, it is important to remember that business thrives on
contracts and Contract Lawis still a major portion of Common Law. It stands to reason that each is
just as important as the other when it comes to the standards of doing business. There are probably
a wide range of opinions as to whether

The Role Of The Perfect Utopian Society In George Orwell s...
What makes a good life for individuals and what constitutes the perfect utopian society? These
are important questions for all humans living in the modern world and the answers to these
questions radically affect the way that we view how power should be used. In George Orwell s
Animal Farm, we see the animals come out from under Mr Jones power, they try to make the
perfect world but fail because someone is always going to have the strength or willpower to go one
step further than you can. In The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, we see Christof try to create
his idea of the perfect world so that at least one person, Truman Burbank, might be able to live a
good life. Both texts suggest that the good life is determined by the degree of freedom that they
have to choose their own destiny and this then affects what the perfect society looks like because
the perfect society would involve ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live out what they
consider to be a good life. The problem with trying to create a perfect society is that there will
always be someone who uses their power to control others for the bad, not the good.
The capacity for an individual to live a good life is dependent upon the degree of freedom that they
have to choose their own destiny. In The Truman Show, Weir suggests that without freedom one
cannot be truly happy. Through Truman s life Christof stopped him from experiencing different
events throughout his life, he messed with Truman s emotions. In

The Nineteenth Century was a period of great economic, social and environmental change. During

The World is Too Much With Us and God s Grandeur both begin with the phrase The World. Both
the poets Hopkins s and Wordsworth s places more importance on the term world, because that
signifies to the mankind and its materialism. The mankind is occupied in this world with the
material life and the duties, because of which both the poets do not seem to believe the world as
simple where the humanity lives. Wordsworth starts his poem for getting the attention of the
reader, The world is too much with us; late and soon (1), that points directly to the mankind. He
discusses that being humans, we have spent our entire lives focusing on consumerism. The
mankind failure to express his feeling towards nature as he is just worrying about the money
throughout the life makes the poet annoyed. The Hopkins poem, God s Grandeur seemed to be

and without degradation or failure. This paper proposes to increase the reliability of RAID level 5
arrays used for storing archival data. Here, group of two or three identical RAID arrays are
considered at the initial stage. Next, a shared parity disk is added to each group containing
diagonal parities of their arrays. Now, the new organization can tolerate all double disk failures
and between 75 and 89 percent of triple disk failures without incurring any data loss. Two
techniques can be used for increasing reliability such as Even Odd scheme and Row Diagonal
Parity (RDP) scheme. This paper gives a study on Even Odd scheme and Row Diagonal Parity
(RDP) scheme for increasing reliability and also proposes a new sparing technique, double parity
sparing. Hence forth the proposed scheme provides better reliability as compared to the existing.

New World Order Research Paper
The new world order but is it new? The continuing war on the enlightenment. First let s lay down
some ground work through history. Anyone who studies the American revolution realizes that the
founding fathers had the enlightenment on their minds when they wrote the constitution. As we
have written in the past, America was founded at a unique time in history by unique circumstances
and people. In order to realize the ongoing war on the enlightenment, you have to understand the
time line. Most scholors agree that the Enlightenment was a result of the Thirty Years War. This
horrible war, lasted from 1618 to 1648. It compelled German writers (such as Hugo Grotius and

The term New World order has been hijacked. The new world order is the form of government
our founding fathers gave to us in the constitution . The politicians dream of a world where the
U.N controls everything and we all use a centrally controlled currency is nothing but old ideas
rehashed that ultimately deprive men of their liberties. The old world order. No countries, no
borders, just one world where everyone sings Kumbaya and there are no wars or hungry people.
Sounds good, but it does not take in consideration that there may be a considerable number of
people that do not want to take part in somebody else s Utopian dream. That is where things
become dangerous. Every time there is central authority it must be able to force people to do it s
will. Something the socialist professors conveniently leave out when espousing the virtues of
central authority (socialism). America became a country that gave rights to people that no other
country had done. The problem is that a self governing society has to have a moral compass in
order to function. Churches and community kept America together until the past 30 years or so. As
government encroaches on the family and community, and as personal responsibility fades, central
authority has to enforce and create laws to keep the population in check. In order for us to regain
ground in the war on enlightenment, we have to stop looking to government for answers and start
fixing things in our local communities. The world is too big for central control, we have no other

two proposed project to achieve the goal of the company. The first proposed project was based on
the traditional prototype used by the company. The project is tested and resulted with the low risk
factor in the priority for increasing the capability of the prototype for the firm. The project follows
all the ethics of the company and is based on according to the company s culture and structure.
Therefore no training program is required for the staff. The second project introduces new
technique of 3D printing to enhance the prototype with high speed. It minimizes the cost of the
project. The requirement of this project is a greater capital input. As the system is using new
technology, therefore the training program is required for the employees. The risk factor rises up
with the introduction of new prototyping system. If the new system is get successful then it will
result with maximizing the profit for the firm. As the consultant I will go through projects by
exploring their assumptions, advantages and disadvantages and then I will recommend the best
project for the firm.

Impact Of Trade Agreements On An International Scale
I.Introduction
Trade agreements have been around for the past several centuries, and naturally, they have evolved.
Earlier on, they were used exclusively as agreements between nations to reduce tariffs on each other
s products. Tariffs, however, were not the only way a nation could protect its industries. Trade
agreements have evolved to address this situation, and instituted measures to disincentivize
circumvention of the spirit of these agreements. Evolving still, trade agreements have now grown
into massive collectives between nations that regulate more than just trade. Moreover, these
agreements have become political tools to cement solidarity between nations, and are used to
harmonize economic regulation on an international scale. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

More than just economic integration, however, the TPP presented an opportunity for the United
States to alter the economic power dynamics in the Asia Pacific. As the lead on TPP, the United
States would have been able to shape regional trade in the Asian Pacific to its benefit by building a
network surrounding China. Specifically, opening markets to Asia would allow for the United
States to craft the economic rules in the Asian Pacific to preference TPP states, which in effect,
would make it harder for a competing regulatory environment to be enacted.
Obama s stance was rooted in keeping the international status quo while trying to break into Asia
and counteracting China s economic clout in the region. Newly elected President Donald Trump,
however, has already come out and stated his opposition to the TPP; indeed, going so far as to
include US withdrawal from the TPP as part of his agenda for his first day in office.
The TPP has faced public scrutiny during this election year particularly because of the North
American Free Trade Agreement(NAFTA), which has been decried by the public for some time.
Loss of American jobs has largely fueled the outrage at NAFTA, but other issues exist as well. For
example, TPP provisions on investor rights, like in NAFTA the Investor State Dispute Settlement
(ISDS) process would allow international arbitral bodies to hear challenges to a state s legal rules.

What is art? Can it be defined in any single painting, or sculpture? Is it even something that can be
seen, or does it have to be experienced? The term quot;art quot; is so vague that it can be applied to
almost anything, really. Mostly, however, art should be that which frees our imagination. It
connects our conscious with our subconscious, putting into a visual form what we feel and think. It
allows us to explore our inner selfand fill that urge to understand our minds and our universe. Art
helps us to see beyond the ordinary, to see what is in our hearts without being blinded by reality.
When an artist creates a painting, it is not to create a picture; it is to create a feeling or mood. The
purpose is to convey an emotion, and, it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At that time, Mayor Rudolph Guiliani, after having viewed the exhibit, threatened to withdraw city
financial support to the museum.
The Mayor labeled the exhibit quot;sick quot; and quot;offensive to Catholics quot;, and made
no secret that his objections were based on his personal dislike of the contents of the show. He
criticized the work of Chris Ofili, specifically a painting called The Holy Virgin Mary, because
of its use of elephant dung. Ofili, a British artist of Nigerian descent, uses elephant dung in many
of his works as a reference to his African roots. As an observant Catholic himself, he denies that
his work is either anti Catholic or anti religious. He meant the dung to be a symbol of life and
providence, however this simple explanation was not enough to satisfy Guilani. His threats to
withdraw funding stood firm. Offili told the New York Times, quot; The people who are attacking
this painting are attacking their own interpretation, not mine. quot; Damien Hirst, whose display
was also part of the show, said that the mayor quot;may as well say, I only like Picasso and if you
don t show it then I m going to cut your funding. It s just pure censorship. quot; He may be right,
and the Brooklyn Museum of Art sued the city on September 28th, protesting the mayor s threat to
freeze millions of dollars in funds.
To the relief of museum officials and art lovers across the country, the courts ruled on November 1st
in favor of the Brooklyn Museum of Art and

Bisphenol-A
Bisphenol A (or BPA) is an organic compound used in the industrial production of plastics. It was
first synthesised around 100 years ago, and has been used to produce polycarbonate plastics and
epoxy resins since the 1960s (US FDA, 2012). Polycarbonate plastics are lightweight and rigid,
therefore used in products such as CDs, DVDs, sports and medical equipment, food and drink
containers and some water supply pipes. Epoxy resins are used as protective coatings in food
cans, paints and adhesives (Aschberger, 2010). According to the US Environmental Protection
Agency, there are over three million tonnes of BPA produced worldwide each year. Humans are
exposed to BPA as it has the ability to hydrolyse (react with water) when catalysed by hydroxide,...

For example, Lang et al (2008) claims that higher levels of BPA in the urine were associated with
cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. However, higher levels of BPA in the urine could also
suggest a high consumption of packaged food. The packaged food is higher in sugar, salt and fat
content, therefore would lead to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. The US Environmental Protection
Agency concludes that these studies are insufficient for use in risk assessment because of a variety
of flaws in some of the study designs . They further question the findings stating that there is an
inability of other researchers to reproduce the effects in standardised

Character Analysis Of Middlemarch
Within Eliot s Middlemarch, a husband and wife discuss and argue about financial decisions.
Tertius, the husband, attempts to remain proud and poor whereas Rosamond, the wife, desires to
have money and material despite Tertius reservations. Although it appears that Eliot s Middlemarch
portrays Tertius as mature, Rosamond as childish, and the relationship as fiscally difficult, it is
additionally evident that Tertius is impetuous, Rosamond is controlled, and the complex
relationship has deeper issues. It cannot be denied that Tertius is portrayed as decisive and
dominant in Middlemarch. This portrayal is evident in the description of his speech, with words
such as decisively and peremptory. It is also apparent in his treatment of... Show more content on

This occurrence clearly portrays Rosamond as childish and ignorant of such prideful aspects of a
request. Furthermore, the selection of detail in nicknaming her Rosy reinforces the comparison of
her to a child. Next, Tertius is portrayed as condescending in addition to his command and
authority. This behavior is evident in his treatment of Rosamond as he repeatedly denies her
attempts to resolve their dire financial straits. Tertius Lydgate s repeated refusals to compromise
clearly indicates his condescension. Examples of this condescending behavior are his denial of
Rosamond s requests to receive financial assistance from Papa and from Tertius friends. In the
second paragraph, Rosamond s crying is described in great detail. The use of lips and chin began to
tremble and tears began to well up suggests an emotional immaturity like that of a child. The
narrative perspective then switches to Tertius point of view in which he mentally describes her as a
creature that had known nothing but indulgence. These examples reinforce the portrayal of Tertius
condescension. Lydgate does mention that her tears cut him to the heart, suggesting that he has at
least something other than pride. This inclusion clarifies that despite his caring, the woes of the
complex relationship reside deeper than just fiscal difficulty. In the fourth paragraph, Eliot portrays
Tertius as having talons but reason too , suggesting that he is

I m inspired by this song to keep my head up high, not to give up so easily. Reading the lyrics and

someone else is having a tough time also. I ve found interest in her overall message, sharing her
struggle and hurt with her audience brings a deeper connection, other than singing a songshe has no

The Credibility Of Cascadia s Earthquake
Careful of Cascadia
In the next 50 years, the Cascadia fault will slip and the government would not even bat an eye if
they didn t know the dangers. The Cascadia Subduction Zone is located on the coast of
Washington and Oregon. Roughly every 550 years, the strain is released from the plates rubbing
against each other and the fault slips; the west coast of the North American Plate suddenly slides
westward over the Juan de Fuca plate, causing a megathrust inland. And as a result, a huge tsunami
would race against the Pacific and affect Japan in dreadful ways. Scientists have been debating
whether or not the evidence is valid. According to Japanese journals, carbonated sediment samples,
and the inland evidence, another Cascadia megathrust would ... Show more content on

Susan Duck Of University Of Iowa Calls Women s Studies Essay
Often times women s studies are overshadowed by topics pertaining to other matters. Because of
this, Steve Duck of University of Iowa calls women s studies understudied relationships . In his
book, Under Studied Relationships: Off the Beaten Track, Steve delves into the complicated world
that is friendship between women. He reveals that even the best of friendships, more often than not,
will dissolve due to geographical distance, especially during the transition from high school to
college. However, Duck claims that this occurrence is more detrimental to male friendships than
female friendships. According to Duck, ...men s inability to maintain distal friends may be due to a
lack of awareness about and skills to utilize effective strategies that maintain a [friendship] (184).
This argument implies that men simply do not put as much emotional value into friendships as
women do. While distance may seem challenging for women to overcome, they put more effort into
preserving their friendship. Duck further instills this concept by explaining that women s same sex
friendships tend to be based more on intimate and emotional discussions than men s... (186). Men,
Duck argues, lack the depth in their friendships that women possess and for this reason have
difficulty sustaining a friendship that is met with the strain of distance.
This idea can be backed up by numerous studies. According to an examination of different sex roles
by Toni Antonucci and Hiroko Akiyama, women have

Introduction and Background
Humber College North Campus, a home to over 19,000 people and residence to 1,000 students,

both staff and students. If parking spaces are limited to the members of this school now, how do
they plan on bringing in more people, who will be coming in from all over the world?

Should Cows Be Used In Research Essay
When one thinks of cows, or bos taurus, words such as meat, and dairy pop into mind. A word
that is rarely ever associated with cows is research. It is not commonly known that cows are used in
research that benefits humans. Cows are used as models of human conditions by biomedical
scientists, this occurred because the similarities cattle share with humans. Cows are used in the
research of reproductive physiology, heart experiments, and autism, because of the use of animals in
research we are closer to finding solutions to almost all maladies that plague humans and animals

There is an extremely broad spectrum for autism thus making it harder to find treatments and

cows helped soothe her. On her Aunt Polly s farm Temple noticed that when the cows become

deep pressure helps calm the agitated cows, upon further investigation she found that cows respond
differently to the different pressure that is applied. The cows high stimuli to being touched
reminded her of how children with autism react to being touched and she created a crude version
for herself to test. Surprisingly she found that that pressure when she was agitated reduced her
anxiety within seconds (Edelson 14) Seeing this she quickly realized that cows share similar traits
with people who suffer from autism. This encouraged scientists to look outside the box when
researching autism. This resulted in the ground breaking discovery that children who have autism

At the hospital, the superintendent, Miss Van Campen, immediately dislikes Frederic, and prohibits him from drinking alcohol with his meals, which he disregards. The next day, Catherine Barkley comes to visit Frederic at the hospital and they rekindle their romance. Later, a doctor comes and checks Frederic s leg. He advises Frederic to wait until his leg has healed six months before they operate, but Frederic is impatient, and asks the opinion of another doctor, Dr.Valentini. Dr. Valentini says that Frederic can be operated on the next day. The night of the operation, Catherine visits Frederic in his hospital room. In the midst of one of their dates, Frederic brings up marriage. • 4. John Piper Essay The author, John Piper, is a retired pastor, author, and theologian. Piper wants his readers to know that the goal of preaching is the glory of God (21). Piper also states that the ground of preaching is the cross of Christ, and the gift of preaching comes from the power of the Holy Spirit (23). Piper accomplishes his goal within both parts of the book. Part one is dedicated to why God should be supreme in preaching, and part two is how to make God supreme in preaching. This a great book for students, pastors, and those within the church. Piper reminds his audience that God is the focus of preaching and nothing else. This review will summarize, review, and critique the work while providing a conclusion. Summary The purpose and thesis is clearly defined as Piper writes, For God aims to exalt himself, not the preacher, in this affair of preaching. And that brings us to the theme: the supremacy of God in preaching (23). God is the goal and ground of preaching, and the means by which men preach is the Holy Spirit (23). Piper goes on to state that he has a burden to plead for the glory of God in preaching with the grand object of preaching to be the infinite and inexhaustible being of God (24). Piper accomplishes his goal by dividing the book into two parts. Piper focuses on why God should be supreme... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Man is sinful and estranged from God, and God is so holy that man cannot be reconciled to Him. There is only one solution and that is the cross of Christ. This is what preachers must proclaim to dead and lost sinners. That is the only hope unbelievers have. Piper states, Preaching would not be valid without the cross (36). Preaching the cross of Christ will also keep a preacher humble because it has the power to convict of sin so that one may turn away from sin. In other words, proclaiming the cross of Christ is central to any preacher s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The canyon walls loomed overhead as the razor blade ridges were sticking out. At the far end of the dark misty canyon is where the wall rose. • 9. The Pledge Of Allegiance And Star Spangled Banner The Pledge of Allegiance and Star Spangled Banner are examples of compulsive patriotism in America that not everyone can see. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner are orthodoxes Americans have recited for many years since they were created during the 1800 s. The Pledge of Allegiance was practiced everyday in the beginning of class, starting at kindergarten, having all the students and teachers participate. I do not call to mind ever learning about what the pledge signified or meant. Never did I ask myself why we said this pledge of allegiance every single day, it was just a mandatory order of each day. The Star Spangled Banner is the national anthem that is recited before sporting events and official government procedures. Both are traditions in America that show pride for their country, it s freedom, and history. Since the Pledge of Allegiance was something that was recited every single school morning, it did not have much importance to me and just became a school routine, you stand up, place your hand on your heart, say the words, and sit down. Even at one point it became annoying to me because it was something that was sort of being forced. If you were to not fully participate you would be scolded by the teacher or given a look. Now that I am older I have learned more about what it means and understand that it has an emotional meaning to some Americans. The Pledge of Allegiance is a patriotic vow to the United Statesto remain loyal and obedient to the country that offers freedom and justice for all. But why do young kids have to say the Pledge of Allegiance? I believe students should be taught the history behind the pledge and what every line in it means and denotes. In addition, the students should be at a more mature age before having to make this promise. Rosenbaum said The America I feel allegiance to isn t the America that requires compulsory displays of loyalty (Rosenbaum, 56). I agree with what he said because America is supposedly the land of the free but those free who do not participate are frowned upon and called un american or unpatriotic. • 13. Summary Of Disney And His Worlds For the critical book review, I have chosen to read Disney and His Worlds by Alan Bryman. Within the book Bryman gives an extensive background of Walt Disney and how his park, Disneyland, came to be. Although this book wasn t an enormous read, since the book was only 194 pages of text, I still had trouble sitting down and trying to finish the book. I felt that the book had much of the same information that I am being taught in class and what I m reading in the other assigned textbooks. Disney and His Worlds was an interesting read overall, and I did enjoy reading the bits of information that I did not know already. One of the first pieces of information that I learned about Walt Disneyis that not everything he did was perfect. I already knew that he didn t start off with a lot of money and that he had to borrow a giant sum to help get Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs off the ground. Within the book, Bryman explains that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was a success with the public and that Walt had make back more than enough money. What I didn t realize was that all of his movies were not a huge success. For example, Bryman states that, ...both Fantasia and Pinnochio performed poorly at the box office...and the response to Bambi was disappointing (pg 9 11). I find it fascinating that Walt s first movie did extremely well, but most of the others flopped. I had not realized sooner that Walt did not have consistent success after he produced Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dead Bodies Kept in the Mortuary: The poet then speaks about the mortuary where the persons killed in violence would be taken and kept for post mortem or for identification by the relatives who would naturally like to take away those dead bodies in order to bury them or cremate them, as the case may be. If kept in a mortuary even for a few days, a dead body begins to stink because of the decomposition which takes place. Not even the sweet smelling substances like rose water and flowers can drown that foul smell. There is, in the mortuary, the dead body of a woman whose husband had cut off her nose on a suspicion of her having adulterous relations with another man. After having cut off her nose he had even stabbed her in breast, thus puncturing her lungs. The Human Capacity for Adjustment: Man, says the poet, can adjust himself to different conditions. For example, a dead man, if buried in the earth, remains there firmly. If the same man were to be cremated, he would allow the fire to consume him quickly. Mark Twain portrays in his satiric novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, published in 1884 in the Antebellum South in Mississippi, 14 year old protagonist exposes the immorality of white society. The author s purpose is to criticize the racism, slavery, and the hypocrisy that existed in the white civilized society in order to enact social change. Walt Whitmanportrays in his free verse poem Song Of Myself from the collection Leaves Of Grass published in 1855 that everyone in the universe has a purpose and that purpose is to be a part of nature. Whitman might express the idea to Twain that everyone in the pre Civil War era is a part of nature and find solutions from it; therefore everyone has to value nature because it represents the higher power. James McPherson, author of The Best Government on God s Footstool, claims in his historical account, What We Fought For, during the Civil War is that why did they fight. McPherson wrote similarly as Whitman in his writing, What We Fought For, that informed his readers that both sides fought for their own way of freedom and both had equal sacrifices. Almost every character has an opposite, and is otherwise totally unique. Cynthia is opposite to Felicity, Simon is the contrast of Magnus, and so on. Tom Stoppard has included these contrasts for a variety of reasons and effects that combine to create the disturbing effect of the play incredibly effectively. But what individual effects do his characters create by opposing each other so accurately. The audiences now how some time to scoff at Stoppard s flimsy attempt to create realistic critics. This effect is just what Stoppard wanted from the opposing critics in the opening scene. Specifically, it is about repairing the infrastructure of a society, including its power grids, water infrastructure, roads, bridges, sustainable structures, and anything that provides support to our thriving lifestyle. Admittedly, improving infrastructureis an important challenge that can be fixed if there are new systems put in place that allow for improvement at any time in the future. The challenge of restoring and improving an urban infrastructure can be accomplished, but there need to be technological advances, and support from the government. Equally important is the need for programs with sufficient financial resources that can provide for a more up to date installation of the various components of an urban infrastructure. Perhaps, the best way to solve the Grand Challenge of restoring and improving infrastructure would be to apply the new technologies that have been investigated and tested the most, and put them into action. There is no doubt that the infrastructure from the 20th century has been a great accomplishment, however, we have pushed the problem of improving and restoring the infrastructure off for years, when it is in current need of repair. These are important questions for all humans living in the modern world and the answers to these questions radically affect the way that we view how power should be used. In George Orwell s Animal Farm, we see the animals come out from under Mr Jones power, they try to make the perfect world but fail because someone is always going to have the strength or willpower to go one step further than you can. • 43. Impact Of Trade Agreements On An International Scale I.Introduction Trade agreements have been around for the past several centuries, and naturally, they have evolved. Earlier on, they were used exclusively as agreements between nations to reduce tariffs on each other s products. Tariffs, however, were not the only way a nation could protect its industries. Trade agreements have evolved to address this situation, and instituted measures to disincentivize circumvention of the spirit of these agreements. Evolving still, trade agreements have now grown into massive collectives between nations that regulate more than just trade. Moreover, these agreements have become political tools to cement solidarity between nations, and are used to harmonize economic regulation on an international scale. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More than just economic integration, however, the TPP presented an opportunity for the United States to alter the economic power dynamics in the Asia Pacific. As the lead on TPP, the United States would have been able to shape regional trade in the Asian Pacific to its benefit by building a network surrounding China. Specifically, opening markets to Asia would allow for the United States to craft the economic rules in the Asian Pacific to preference TPP states, which in effect, would make it harder for a competing regulatory environment to be enacted. Obama s stance was rooted in keeping the international status quo while trying to break into Asia and counteracting China s economic clout in the region. Newly elected President Donald Trump, however, has already come out and stated his opposition to the TPP; indeed, going so far as to include US withdrawal from the TPP as part of his agenda for his first day in office. The TPP has faced public scrutiny during this election year particularly because of the North American Free Trade Agreement(NAFTA), which has been decried by the public for some time. Loss of American jobs has largely fueled the outrage at NAFTA, but other issues exist as well. For example, TPP provisions on investor rights, like in NAFTA the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) process would allow international arbitral bodies to hear challenges to a state s legal rules. The term quot;art quot; is so vague that it can be applied to almost anything, really. Mostly, however, art should be that which frees our imagination. It connects our conscious with our subconscious, putting into a visual form what we feel and think. It allows us to explore our inner selfand fill that urge to understand our minds and our universe. Art helps us to see beyond the ordinary, to see what is in our hearts without being blinded by reality. At that time, Mayor Rudolph Guiliani, after having viewed the exhibit, threatened to withdraw city financial support to the museum. The Mayor labeled the exhibit quot;sick quot; and quot;offensive to Catholics quot;, and made no secret that his objections were based on his personal dislike of the contents of the show. He criticized the work of Chris Ofili, specifically a painting called The Holy Virgin Mary, because of its use of elephant dung. Ofili, a British artist of Nigerian descent, uses elephant dung in many of his works as a reference to his African roots. As an observant Catholic himself, he denies that his work is either anti Catholic or anti religious. He meant the dung to be a symbol of life and providence, however this simple explanation was not enough to satisfy Guilani. His threats to withdraw funding stood firm. Offili told the New York Times, quot; The people who are attacking this painting are attacking their own interpretation, not mine. quot; Damien Hirst, whose display was also part of the show, said that the mayor quot;may as well say, I only like Picasso and if you don t show it then I m going to cut your funding. It s just pure censorship. quot; He may be right, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art sued the city on September 28th, protesting the mayor s threat to freeze millions of dollars in funds. It was first synthesised around 100 years ago, and has been used to produce polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins since the 1960s (US FDA, 2012). Polycarbonate plastics are lightweight and rigid, therefore used in products such as CDs, DVDs, sports and medical equipment, food and drink containers and some water supply pipes. • 46. Character Analysis Of Middlemarch Within Eliot s Middlemarch, a husband and wife discuss and argue about financial decisions. Tertius, the husband, attempts to remain proud and poor whereas Rosamond, the wife, desires to have money and material despite Tertius reservations. Although it appears that Eliot s Middlemarch portrays Tertius as mature, Rosamond as childish, and the relationship as fiscally difficult, it is additionally evident that Tertius is impetuous, Rosamond is controlled, and the complex relationship has deeper issues. It cannot be denied that Tertius is portrayed as decisive and dominant in Middlemarch. This portrayal is evident in the description of his speech, with words such as decisively and peremptory. Furthermore, the selection of detail in nicknaming her Rosy reinforces the comparison of her to a child. Next, Tertius is portrayed as condescending in addition to his command and authority. This behavior is evident in his treatment of Rosamond as he repeatedly denies her attempts to resolve their dire financial straits. Tertius Lydgate s repeated refusals to compromise clearly indicates his condescension. Examples of this condescending behavior are his denial of Rosamond s requests to receive financial assistance from Papa and from Tertius friends. In the second paragraph, Rosamond s crying is described in great detail. The use of lips and chin began to tremble and tears began to well up suggests an emotional immaturity like that of a child. The narrative perspective then switches to Tertius point of view in which he mentally describes her as a creature that had known nothing but indulgence. These examples reinforce the portrayal of Tertius condescension. Lydgate does mention that her tears cut him to the heart, suggesting that he has at least something other than pride. This inclusion clarifies that despite his caring, the woes of the complex relationship reside deeper than just fiscal difficulty. In the fourth paragraph, Eliot portrays Tertius as having talons but reason too , suggesting that he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Susan Duck Of University Of Iowa Calls Women s Studies Essay Often times women s studies are overshadowed by topics pertaining to other matters. Because of this, Steve Duck of University of Iowa calls women s studies understudied relationships . In his book, Under Studied Relationships: Off the Beaten Track, Steve delves into the complicated world that is friendship between women. He reveals that even the best of friendships, more often than not, will dissolve due to geographical distance, especially during the transition from high school to college. However, Duck claims that this occurrence is more detrimental to male friendships than female friendships. According to Duck, ...men s inability to maintain distal friends may be due to a lack of awareness about and skills to utilize effective strategies that maintain a [friendship] (184). This argument implies that men simply do not put as much emotional value into friendships as women do. While distance may seem challenging for women to overcome, they put more effort into preserving their friendship. Duck further instills this concept by explaining that women s same sex friendships tend to be based more on intimate and emotional discussions than men s... (186). Men, Duck argues, lack the depth in their friendships that women possess and for this reason have difficulty sustaining a friendship that is met with the strain of distance. This idea can be backed up by numerous studies. According to an examination of different sex roles by Toni Antonucci and Hiroko Akiyama, women have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is not commonly known that cows are used in research that benefits humans. Suffering from Asperger s spectrum disorder, Temple Grandin found that observing cows helped soothe her. On her Aunt Polly s farm Temple noticed that when the cows become agitated they would be put in the compression machine. Temple discovered that the application of deep pressure helps calm the agitated cows, upon further investigation she found that cows respond differently to the different pressure that is applied. The cows high stimuli to being touched reminded her of how children with autism react to being touched and she created a crude version for herself to test. Surprisingly she found that that pressure when she was agitated reduced her anxiety within seconds (Edelson 14) Seeing this she quickly realized that cows share similar traits with people who suffer from autism. This encouraged scientists to look outside the box when researching autism. This resulted in the ground breaking discovery that children who have autism When cows are agitated it causes oxytocin to squeeze the muscle cells to contract the squeezing the milk into the milk ducts and result in inconsistent milk letdown.
