C. O. D. War Case Study
What did you do during the C.O.D. War? When Ted Turner was launching his cable TV empire in the
80s, he paid the bills by selling commercial space to anyone who had anything to sell. Between low
budget rasslin matches and re runs of Japanese monster movies, Turner s Superstation was a televised
flea market. It pitched cheap steak knives, records by faux hobo Boxcar Willie and any gizmo
dreamed up by second rate Ronco imitators. The beauty was that you could order up the junk by
phoning and having it sent to your house C.O.D. that means cash on delivery for all you post Internet

Effects Of Corruption On Women
Through the analysis of the different aspects of corruption at different levels of society, it can be
argued that the differential treatment of women and their lack of empowerment (2) is the cause of the
greater effect that corrupt systems have on women (1). 1. The impact of corruption on women: the
greater effect of corrupt systems on women Because corrupt systems cause women to suffer from
gender specific forms of corruption (a) and difficulties in accessing public services (b), women seem
to be disproportionately affected by corruption. a. The women specific practices of corruption While
research often focus on the different probability to pay bribes for men and women, a strong emphasis
should be placed on how men and women are differently impacted by corruption. As an abuse of
entrusted power in exchange for a private gain, corruption seems to accentuate those differences,
especially when it takes gender specific forms. Those are disproportionately experienced by women
when the currency for bribes is of a sexual nature. For instance, sexual extortion, or sextortion, is
defined as the situation where sexual favors are used as a currency for corrupt practices. This
manifestation of extortion can involve diverse types of sexual assault against women, from sexual
harassment to forced sex. When inflicted by public officials in exchange for the performance of a duty,
it seem to fall within the definition of abuse of power and influence of the UNCAC, yet sexual
extortion is

There were times when Worldcom HAD excess accruals and chose not to release them. This was to
sustain the financial Line E/R ratio. This is definitely not an appropriate practice because expenses
need to be recognized in accordance with the matching principle. It is not acceptable to hold expenses
for a later date when you have excess revenue and can afford to recognize held back expenses. 3. On
the topic of capitalizing line costs, critique the rationale included in CEO Scott Sullivan s White
Paper. Based on your own analysis of GAAP, explain the propriety or impropriety of capitalizing line
costs in the telecom industry. Sullivan explained his rationale in a report to the Board of Directors
referred as the white papers. In order to meet the customer demand for Internet and data expected to
increase at the 8 times annual growth factor, Worldcom had to significantly increase its capital
investments. Lease commitments were established to expedite the customer provisioning and revenue
stream in accordance with SAB 101, and supplemented by FASB 91, direct and indirect costs
associated with obtaining a customer may be deferred and amortized over the revenue stream
associated with that contract. So instead of recognizing these expenses immediately, the portion of the
unused capacity was able to be expensed later when the revenue was realized. This might have been
an O.K. practice in accordance of GAAP if the capitalization of these line costs

Management Strategy and Tactic 11/4/2014 Selecting a Computerized PMIS (Project Management
Information System) The software industry offers many packages and online tools that allow project
control and management. Many market offerings are related to the industry for which it is intended. To
make a rational, well informed selection that can really benefit the organization, we need to establish
the selection criteria and the characteristics used to evaluate it, and then asses the features suitable for
the type of business the organization is enrolled in. Real projects are often extremely large, with

Customizability: The system needs to be able to adapt to any type of operation. This can be done by
allowing the PM to rename to re structure the project activities and re label certain tasks, team names,
resources, terms, folders, and so on. Expandability: The system needs to be able to grow with the
organization and at the same time handle a large or unlimited number of concurrent projects. The
system also needs to be able to visually and logically separate between projects while allowing the PM
to draw from a global or a customized pool of resources. Reliability and security: The system needs to
be accessible at any time by any team member. It also needs to provide a high level of security that
guards the organizational data and all relevant information about its projects and activities.
Scheduling: The system needs to support Gantt charts and automatic cost recalculation which updates
times, costs, and resources. The software should also be able to display AON or AOA networks and
plots of earliest start, scheduled start, slack/float, latest finish, planned finish, and actual finish times.
Naturally, the tool should allow creating activities and tasks, assigning resources or individuals,
setting deadlines, and drafting timeline diagrams of concurrent tasks/projects. The system should also

Now, as I complete portfolio projects and other assignments, I go about it very semantically. I first
develop a plan and goals to complete each day or week depending on the size of the project. I then
take the time to learn and research the topics being covered. Taking the time to really complete the
project well and truly learn from the research is the key to developing critical thinking and completing
the work as best as you can.
5. Communication Skills
Demonstrate your proficiency in oral and written communication from various projects within your
degree program, and how will those communication skills be of value in the workplace?
Working online I have developed excellent oral and written communication skills. Because I am not
working face to face with others it has forced me to write more clearly and concisely. I have to
communicate through writing and make sure I am understood the first time as email and online

Family Unit Research Paper
In today s world people use many words to describe different situations; some words are lovely, and
some are horrifying. The thing about this world s vocabulary, is that we choose which words best
describe each situation and we are fully aware of the definitions behind them. In the Community
people use their words with great precision, making sure not to confuse anyone or cause any feelings
that might be bad. All citizens of the Community use the words that they are told to use without
realizing that sometimes there are deep dark secrets behind what they are saying. Assignment,
Elsewhere, and Family Unit are everyday words to the Community, but what they do not understand is
the restriction behind them. The word Assignment is used to describe the occupation that each child is
designated during the Ceremony of Twelve. The citizens do not get to choose how they want to spend
their days, and they do not care because that is the way it has always been. The Committee of Elders
carefully watches the children when they are growing up to decide which Assignment would best fit

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages For Bathroom...
Whether you are already in the midst of your in depth house renovation, adding on a bathroom, or you
re simply planning a redesign, considering the bathroom countertops will eventually come into play.
This often overlooked detail can mean all the difference between the appearance of a cohesive
bathroom design and an unorganized, disruptive flow. Let s consider a few materials and designs for
bathroom countertops.
Materials
These options are often found in bathrooms due to their practicality, durability, and beauty. Some are
more expensive and higher maintenance than others, but all are good choices for a bathroom
countertop.

Modern? Rustic? Vintage? Elegant? The shapes within your bathroom, even for your countertops, will
play a role here. Sharp, squared edges typically resemble modern, minimalistic looks, while rounded
or oval edges and curves work better for traditional, classic, and elegant looks.
Sinks, Faucets, Backsplashes
As you look for the right countertop, you should also consider what kind of sink, faucet, and
backsplash you have in mind. Some countertop materials don t work well with certain sink styles and
other countertops might not form a seamless backsplash, which means more cracks and crevices for
bacteria, and therefore requiring more cleaning. The last thing you want is to purchase your countertop
and for it not to work with the design you envisioned.
Making the Decision
There are numerous bathroom countertop choices available for various purposes. Some may appear
more high end, while requiring more work, and others may not look as refined, but be more durable.
Remember to weigh the pros and cons, and you ll be installing your bathroom countertop in no

Figurative Language In Shakespeare s Like As The Waves
While writing authors often use figurative language for a variety of reasons. Figurative language helps
makes a piece of literature more appealing and easier to read. In the poem Like as the Waves by
William Shakespeare, a large amount of figurative language. He uses figurative language to bring
more life to the writing and make it more enjoyable to read. Shakespeare s use of figurative language
helps illustrate the theme, time can bring both good and bad outcomes. One form of figurative
language used by Shakespeare in this poem is imagery. The use of imagery helps create a visual of
what is going on and makes the poem more engaging. One example of his use of imagery is when he
writes, Like as the waves make toward the pebbled shore, so do our minutes hasten to their end,
(Shakespeare 1 2). Shakespeare is creating the image of waves crashing on the shore. He is also
creating a simile. By using a simile, Shakespeare is able to make a connection between ... Show more

He gives human characteristics to many inanimate objects, especially to time. One example of this is
when he writes, ¨ Time doth transfix the flourish set on youth, And delves the parallels in beauty s
brow (Shakespeare 9 10). He gives this example of personification to help the demonstrate how he
views time and how it affects a person both physically and emotionally. He views time as destructive
and something that is not always good and he uses figurative language to illustrate this. Another
example of this is when he writes, Praising thy worth, despite his cruel hand (Shakespeare 14).
Shakespeare uses personification to show that time can never completely eliminate a person or an
item. Although time taking away loved ones and ideas is awful, cherished memories that were created
over time are left behind. Shakespeare uses a wide variety of personification in this poem to help
illuminate the message he is trying to

Analysis Of Tracks By Louise Erdrich
Almost everyone has heard the quote, you can t understand someone until you walk a mile in their
shoes at least once in their life. It means that a person should not judge another person before
considering their perspective on something. For the novel Tracks by Louise Erdrich, that quote is an
important theme for its main characters. The novel gives a glimpse into the lives of Native Americans
in 20th century America through the narrative of two characters: Nanapush and Pauline Puyat. The
stories of the two alternate through every chapter, with each character narrating their own side of the
same continuous timeline. The first narrator is Nanapush, a wise elder of the Ojibwe tribe, whose
wisdom is a useful tool for the tribe s people. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were at one time close with one another while working together in the same town of Argus, but
over the years they began to drift apart.
There is one specific story within the novel that truly shows the differences in both Nanapush and
Pauline s narratives. The story is of Eli Kashpaw, Fleur s husband, and presumed father of Lulu. The
story begins with Nanapush telling of how Eli visits his cabin for advice on how to get Fleur to like
him, or as Nanapush described it, [Eli] wanted something other than what I could teach him about the
woods...he wanted to know how I satisfied three wives (Erdrich 41). That interaction between Eli and
Nanapush showed how trusted Nanapush was to the people of the tribe, they felt they could ask him
for anything: from advice on how to hunt to how to get a girlfriend. [Eli] asked me the old time way to
make a woman love him and I went into detail so he should make no disgraceful error and those
details seemed to work as the reader sees in the next weeks that Eli and Fleur are living together in the
woods.
As the reader saw how Nanapush was the initiator of their relationship, in Pauline s chapter, she is
seen as its destructor. Pauline has always had a fascination/jealously towards Fleur ever since they
met. When they worked together in Argus, she would always compare herself to Fleur saying, I was so
poor looking, I was invisible to most customers and to the men in the shop while Fleur made [the men
s] brains hum (Erdrich 18)

Young Goodman Brown Analysis
Hawthorne s story, Young Goodman Brown, appears to be a story about original sin with a lot of
symbolism tied in to make it an allegory. An allegory is a story that can be interpreted in different
ways to find the hidden meaning behind the symbolism in the story. The three things focused on
throughout the short story is Faith, the forest that Goodman Brown takes his journey through, and the
staff, which the old man who leads Goodman Brown on his way carries. The short story, Young
Goodman Brown, uses several symbols such as: Faith, the forest, and the staff to contribute
significantly to the allegory. Goodman Brown s wife, Faith, not only represents Goodman Brown s
wife but also his religious faith. This dual purpose of Faith only ... Show more content on

reintroduces the ribbons when Goodman Brown is in the forest, struggling with his doubts about the
goodness in the people he knows (Themes, Motifs, and Symbols). Goodman Brown questions if
anyone he has always known even has the true virtues and morals he thought they did. So when the
pink ribbon flutters down from the sky, Goodman Brown perceives it as a sign that Faith has definitely
fallen into the realm of the devil (Themes, Motifs, and Symbols). In other words, Faith has shed this
sign of her purity and innocence (Themes, Motifs, and Symbols).
At the same time, Goodman s companion, who exhibits devilish qualities with his black snaked staff,
will not give up until the young Goodman Brown completes his journey into the woods (Themes,

Similarities Between Cesare Lombroso And William Sheldon
Cesare Lombroso is commonly referred to as the farther of criminology. Lombroso and his followers
helped form the basis of the Positive School of Criminology. He focused on measuring jawbones,
skulls, hands, and other physical traits of groups of prisoners. He believed that criminals are biological
throwbacks to an earlier, more primitive stage of development. Overall, Lombroso concluded that
some people are born criminals, and we are able to identify them based on both their appearance and
behavior. William Sheldon believed that youths with certain physical appearances enhanced their
potential of behaving in a delinquent way. He believed that there are three distinct body types
including endomorph, which is characterized by having a rotund, soft, fleshy body, easygoing,
gregarious, and self indulgent in temperament. Another body type is ectomorph, which is
characterized by someone with a slender fragile body, with small weak appearances, loner,
introspective, and emotionally high strung. The last body type Sheldon identified was mesomorph,
which is identified by having a muscular and firm body, who has a strong frame and resilient
constitution. This individual tends to be energetic, impetuous, and insensitive. Sheldon compared both

The Impact Of Canadian Policing During The Nineteenth Century
2) There has been an evolution of police work in Canada. A number of events have shaped Canadian
policing, and in particular have shaped three different kinds. These are municipal, provincial, and
federal police services. All these services had to start from somewhere. In many respects, the
emergence of Canadian policing during the nineteenth century closely mirrored the development of
punishment and corrections (Griffiths 2004).
In the earliest days, policing in communities was carried out by community residents. Later, some
communities started to rely on militias and the navy, while other regions remained unpoliced. These
situations were obviously not sufficient to deal with the rising problems faced in an industrialized
society. These times are categorized as early municipal policing. Complaints by fishermen led to the
first court of justice in North America in Trinity Bay. These early attempts eventually failed. The
English appointed fishing admirals , who were captains of fishing vessels empowered to settle
disputes. These men were untrained, and normally no better than the people they were to police. In
1792 a Royal proclamation was issued that authorized the Governor of Newfoundland to appoint
justices and constables (Course Notes). Early municipal police had three main mandates which were:
to police conflicts with ethnic groups, to maintain moral standards by enforcing laws against
drunkenness, prostitution and gambling, and to apprehend criminals. Townspeople

The story is about a ski instructor named Miranda who is having several issues with her new boss,

An Exploration Of The Pepcon Disaster And Its Aftermath
An Exploration of the PEPCON Disaster And Its Aftermath What began as normal repair work at the
Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada (PEPCON) in May of 1988, resulted in
devastation. PEPCON was one of two manufacturing facilities of Ammonium Perchlorate (AP),
located in Clark County, NV, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Las Vegas (Lilley, 2012).
AP is an oxidizer that when combined with aluminum makes the base for solid state rocket fuel
(Dunbar, 2006). Due to the recent Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, all space exploration by NASA
was halted, and a stockpile of around 4,000 tons of AP built up and was stored onsite (Lilley, 2012).

within many buildings at the PEPCON facility, dust control was either minimal or nonexistent, while
cleaning was only performed before safety inspections (Lambert Alvares, 2003, p.7). This led to
massive AP buildups on all flat surfaces which it is assumed exasperated the situation further once the
fire started (Lambert Alvares, 2003, p.7). The incredibly risky storage practices of this powerful
oxidizer made PEPCON a disaster waiting to happen.
The Facility And Its Safety Features The PEPCON facility was broken up into multiple buildings, the
most important of which to this incident is the batch drying building located in the southwest portion
of the facility (map of PEPCON is attached as Appendix A) (Routley, n.d., p. 22). The batch dryer was
used to blend and dry AP to prepare it for final packing, however, this facility was not suitable for this
work due to its construction. The building was constructed of combustible fiberglass with steel
supports (Routley, n.d., p.8). AP residue built up on the fiberglass and accelerated the fire out of
control once it started (Routley, n.d., p.8). This risk was known by PEPCON as there had been
previous fires in this building, however nothing was done to deter future fires (Case

The excellent novel The Compleat Angler written by Izaak Walton in 1653, is historically marked as
one of the top commentaries on both the activity and philosophy of fishing. The setting opens with
three men with very suiting names: Piscator, the angler of the narration, Venator, a hunter, and Auceps,

decide to walk together, conversing to pass the time. The men each give their descriptions of the
different aspects of their own sport, with Piscators being so eloquent and full of depth that Venator
decides to tag along and fish with him for multiple days. Auceps leaves shortly after and the book
dives into the explanations, thoughts, and actions of Piscator as he shows his masterful art of angling

Piscator. He begins with a common idea of the time, such that water is the most basic element of the

wood through a hypothesized conversion of water, meaning, according to Piscator s logic, it must be
possible to convert the wood back to its theorized original state. He goes on to compare different fish
species to reflect different personalities that humans have, going as far as to say the cuttlefish is
basically the underwater angler with its lure type strategy of capturing prey. Many other

Theme Of Masculinity In The Old Man And The Sea
Masculinity is a recurring theme in Hemingway s, The Old Man and the Sea. The main character
Santiago, or The Old Man, is in a perpetual search for his masculinity. While he has no problem with
established respect amongst the other fishermen, his prolonged failure sets him towards the sea where
he begins to question his worth as a man. Through the ocean, and the creatures that inhabit it the hunt
for what it means to be a man is the focal point of this novella.
In the beginning of the novel when Santiago is conversing one on one with the boy and his fellow
fishermen, the concept of masculinity is represented through a series of smaller ideas and/or
representations. Santiago has very little trouble fitting into these ideas. A large symbol that relates to a
real life masculine thing is beer. The boy brings the old man a beer while they have a conversation.
The boy expresses his want to be a man, and the old man replies: You bought me a beer... You are
already a man. (12) This insinuates that buying beer is a right of pass in becoming a man, and hence a
symbol of masculinity. Another shared interest amongst the fishermen is baseball. They are not in
America, but they use their radios to listen to the games while they re fishing. Stereotypically, baseball
is a predominately sport as it was deemed too aggressive and fast paced for women. In a historical
context, as the story is set in 1940 s, baseball was for men only. Santiago relates to a baseball player,
and expresses the

U.s. And Ireland Government Essay
U.S. and Ireland Government The overall organization of the U.S. and Irish government has a lot of
similarities but also has its differences. Ireland is known to be a parliamentary democracy and has 3
branches of government, which are the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary branch. The United States
is similar in the way that they also have three branches of government which are the Executive,
Legislative and Judicial branch and has a democracy. The constitution was the foundation for the U.S
government just like it was for the Irish government and how they govern their country. In Ireland
there are many political parties while in the U.S. there are mainly only two. The Irish constitution
applies to the 32 counties in Ireland but in the United States it refers to the 50 states. In Ireland their
common law system is based on the English model and in the United States it s based on the English
common law. The United States and Irish government has many legislative powers in common, but
the difference would be between the offices. In the United States the Legislative Branch consists of
the congress which is made up of two houses. The vice president plays a role in one of the houses
which is the Senate. The Senate is based on equal representation, which allows 2 senators to be elected
from each state, making it a total of 100 Senators. The other house which is The House of
Representatives is based on population meaning the more the population a state has the more

Nursing Research Critique
Research Summary and Ethical Considerations
Introduction
A pressure ulcer is a localized injury to the skin and/ or underlying tissue usually over a bony
prominence, as a result of pressure or pressure in combination with shear and/ or friction. (National
Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel, 2007). It is essential to give education to the patients, family, care
givers and health care providers to decrease the pressure ulcer rate. Multiple study about pressure
ulcer revealed that pressure ulcer causes significant harm to the patients by increasing the length of
stay in the hospital due to frequent pain, discomfort, infection and poor healing. The infection and

Factors connected to the health care personnel are views and values, responsibility and commitment,

Early Church Writings
I found the early Church writings interesting, because it gave me a clearer understanding of the lattice
weaving between the scriptures, catechetical manuals, witness statements, and liturgical guides
working together supporting each other within the Catholic Church. After the fall of Jerusalem 70AD,
the Holy Spirit was obviously present for the Jewish rabbis to meet and agree on what Old Testament
books would be considered Sacred Scripture: The Law, or Torah is the first five books of the Bible, the
historical books, the Prophets, and the Writings. Because by the second century the Church found
itself being challenged by Marcion own interpretation of God goes against the dogma of the Church
therefore, twenty seven New Testament biblical books ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Origen also taught three ways of interpreting Scripture; the literal (referring to the intention of the
author), the moral (our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit, we should not desecrate our temple with
bad habits) and the allegorical, (eternal significance, the Church is leading us to Heaven). 1777 years
later the Vatican II gave three very similar guidelines for interpreting the Bible: 1. attention to the
content and unity of the whole Scripture 2. adherence to the Church s Tradition 3. mindfulness of the
analogy of Faith. The analogy of Faith means the harmony or coherence of the truths of Faith relative
to one another and within the whole plan of Revelation. (CCC 112 114) Presently the modern Church
does offer a bible that has good footnotes, pictures, maps, and clear explanation of scripture, more
importantly to combat heresy; we must read the bible with a sense of Tradition, from what the original
author means to say, not what I think the reading means. Sadly, our Protestant siblings have turned

24 September 2014 ANTIGONE In Antigone written by Sophocles and translated by David R. Slavitt,
Antigone decides to risk her own life to be able to bury her brother in a respectful way in which she
thinks is right. Antigone had an enthusiastic determination about it, approached it without regret, and
also choose her destiny and her sisters. Her father s fate was a big affect on if she was going to
precede with burying her brother or to no give him the respect like the rest of the surrounding
community. Even though Antigone risked her whole life and her entire future she made the right
decision by burying her brother and sticking to her own judgment. Antigone thought positively from

She knew that in her mind, knowing her fathers fate that this was definitely the right choice. She did
not care about other people s options and the consequences were not affecting her at the time they
were decided. Antigone feels, as though that this is a good way to die, it s a way that she is going to be
remembered for what she has done. Sister, forbear, or I shall hate thee soon, and the dead man will
hate thee too, with cause. Say I am mad and give my madness rein to wreck itself; the worst that can
befall is but to die an honorable death. (92 96). Because Antigone approaches her consequences
(death) without regret, her demise takes a tone other than the tragic feel of the suicides of Haemon and
Eurydice. By choosing this path she did not only choose her life/future but she also the rest of her
family s. Her whole family will be affected by her choice of following her father s fate, either now or
in the future. Antigone and Ismene have a very in depth conversation before it takes place. Ismene is
somewhat upset about the choice Antigone is about to make not only for her sake but also her own
destiny. Antigone: Claim not a work in which thou hadst no

American Indian Religious Freedom Act
Prior to the Second World War, religious places remained untouched as they were mainly located in
rural areas. However, the period after the Second World War was characterized by an increase in
population, corporate farming, a more vibrant timber industry as well as an expanded recreational
industry. This change resulted in less respect for the public land, and the situation was made worse by
the proliferation of state and federal agencies that have no respect for the public land. It thus becomes
difficult for the Native Indians to have access to shrines as the politicians promulgated rules that
disregarded public land particularly places of worship. One such narrow minded law that has failed to
achieve its ultimate goal is the American Indian Religious Freedom Act that was enacted in 1978. The
law made it clear the government efforts of protecting the religious rights of the American Indians not
only to express their belief but also to practice this believes through traditional religion. However, this
law faced major blows especially on the corridors of justice where the Court viewed the Congress
action in enacting the American Indian Religious Freedom Act as efforts of the government to
establish a state religion.
Instead of the government respecting the right of the Indians to maintain their religious places, it
invokes its power as the custodian of the public land by claiming that it has the mandate of utilizing
any piece of public land for the benefit of the entire

why this was so important. However, shortly after settling in for the long hall it clicked, and I was able
to make the connection to my Political Science 1100 course, and how exactly the county council

State legislative bodies addressed various topics and issues related to the county and sought ways to

The Three Reasons And Rationales For The Exclusionary Rule
The following are the three justifications and their rationales for the exclusionary rule: Constitutional
rights, judicial integrity and deterrence. Because of the Constitutional rights the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth,
and Fourteenth Amendment rights wouldn t mean anything without the exclusion. In regards to
judicial integrity the courts shouldn t contribute in unconstitutional behavior by approving it. To
ensure deterrence in negative police conduct steps in prevention of unconstitutional conduct by
government officers are taken. The justification that the U.S. Supreme Court uses today for the
exclusionary rule is, The reasonable, good faith exception, created by U.S. v. Leon (1984), allows the
government to use evidence obtained from searches based on unlawful search if officers honestly and
reasonably believed they were lawful. The law was created to prevent misconduct. The rule has no
deterrent effect if officers believed they were doing everything legitimately. There are six exceptions
to the exclusionary rule, but I am going to name five. They are: Collateral use, independent source,
cross examination, attenuation of the taint of constitutional conduct, and inevitable discovery.
Whenever the use of evidence is obtained illegally it is admissible in all non trial settings. This is
Collateral use. Examples would be bail hearings, preliminary hearings, grand jury proceedings, habeas
corpus proceedings. The use of illegally obtained evidence is used by the

Classical Utilitarianism In The Meatpacking Factory
Question #2: The Meatpacking Factory
According to classical utilitarianism, we must allocate the total amount of happiness among as many
people as possible (Pojman, 218). When analyzing whether to allow the Islamic employees the right to
pray on break, utilitarians may argue that allowing Islamic employees, who only make up 20% of the
factory population, the right to pray is a decision that focuses on the minority as opposed to what is
best for the majority. Furthermore, there is evidence that allowing Islamic employees to take flexible
breaks hinders the factory s productivity, which damages profits, and in turn, hurts not only the factory
employees but also the shareholders in the company. Additionally, the issue is also forming tensions
between the Islamic and non Islamic employees. For all these reasons, utilitarians could argue that it is
better for the majority if Windham did not allow the Islamic workers to pray during work. However,
this is an incomplete argument because it fails to account for the potential consequences. Should
Windham choose to violate the agreement he has established with the Islamic workers, he runs the risk
of being sued for violating his agreement with the Islamic employees. Furthermore, Windham risks
external organizations becoming involved because he is violating the workers rights to practice their
faith. Both of these ramifications would not only hurt his company because of negative publicity but
would also hurt key stakeholders because

Of mice and men is a novel written by John Steinbeck. A film of mice and men was also directed by
Gary Sinise in 1992. The novel and the film are a bit different from each other. The book was written
in the 1930 s, a time of high unemployment through out America and a time of racism and sexism and
segregation. The main themes are sexism, prejudice, loneliness, loyalty and protest. John Steinbeck

The tension increases as George and Lennie try to out run the men on horses. The music becomes
faster and more exciting. There is a lot of sound in the background such as dogs barking, men
shouting, George telling Lennie to run faster. This increases the tension in the audience. George and
Lennie jump and hide in the river so that the dogs lose there scent. After George and Lennie lose the
men who were after them, they jumped on to a train which was going extremely fast. It is dark and
there are shadows. They had to jump on the train because they had no money and had to run away
from Weed.
There was an atmosphere of danger. There was no music at all except sounds of the train and whistles.
There was minimal lightening so that the setting could blend into the surroundings. There are a range
of camera shots which focus on George and Lennie. These shots show that they are workers and the
state they are in which is fatigued, exhausted and drained. In side the train is only the sound of the
conversation between George and Lennie. This conversation highlights the relationship between
George and Lennie and illustrates who is in control. It also indicates that George is being a father like
figure towards Lennie as he says go to sleep Lennie and take off your coat after Lennie says I m wet .
After that George and Lennie board a grey hound bus in a town, it is day time, with long camera shots
of George and Lennie.

The Hunt My journey begins at 4:00 am on a Friday, waking a minute before my alarm goes off. It s
time to get dressed with warm clothes and gather my hunting gear for the day. I load my equipment

the ground like a blanket to the earth. The season of goose hunting is upon us in West Michigan. My
friends and I have been ready to hunt since the end of last years season. Wildlife is very active, and I
have to stop for deer frequently while driving. The shining moon is a lantern in the sky, stars are
abundant, traffic is scarce, and my stomach is growling. My arrival time at Jayden s house is perfect,
their trailer is loaded, their guns are prepared, and the weather is beautiful. As I get out of my car and
start to unload, Jayden says, We didn t know if you d make it. I can t miss an opening day goose hunt,
I reply with excitement. Jayden, Spencer, and their dad, Ryan help me load my layout blind and gun

The Anatomical Structure Of Different Organelles
Analyze the anatomical structure of ten different organelles in the cell and their respective functions.
The cell s nonmembranous organelles include the cytoskeleton, microvilli, centrioles, cilia, ribosomes,
and proteasomes. Membranous organelles include the endoplasmic reticulum, the Golgi apparatus,
lysosomes, peroxisomes, and mitochondria.
Organelle Location and function
Cytoskeleton Serves as the cell s skeleton. It is an interior protein system that gives the cytoplasm
quality and adaptability. The cytoskeleton of all cells is made of microfilaments, halfway fibers, and
microtubules. Muscle cells contain these cytoskeletal parts in addition to thick fibers. The fibers and
microtubules of the cytoskeleton frame a dynamic system whose ceaseless rearrangement influences
cell shape and capacity.
Microvilli Numerous cells have little, finger formed projections of the plasma film on their uncovered
surfaces. These projections, called microvilli (solitary, microvillus), significantly increment the
surface territory of the phone presented to the extracellular environment. Likewise, they cover the
surfaces of cells that are effectively engrossing materials from the extracellular liquid, for example,
the cells coating the stomach related tract. Microvilli have broad associations with the cytoskeleton. A
center of small scale fibers hardens each microvillus and grapples it to the cytoskeleton at the terminal
web.

Evidence Based Management Essay
This essay is going to analyze the article titled What s the Evidence on Evidence Based Management?
by Trish Reay, Whitney Berta, and Melanie Kazman Kohn that was written in 2009. The article was a
systematic review of the available literature in response to increasing advocacy for the application of
evidence based management (EBMgt). The authors were driven by three overarching research
objectives: (I) to find out whether there was adequate literature about the concept of EBMgt, (II) to
evaluate the quality of existing evidence (literature) concerning EBMgt, and (III) to find out whether
there is a correlation between employing EBMgt and improved organizational performance.
The Author s Ability to Explain Why the Study According to the authors of the article, their systematic
review was necessitated by the increased call for EBMgt. They note that there are a number of

The Pledge of Allegiance Essay
At the beginning of each day in many public and private schools around the country, students stand

recited on a daily basis. This issue has been a source of controversy for years. On one side of the
argument exists families and educators who believe in the citizenship and patriotism that reciting the
Pledge brings (Chiodo, 2011). On the opposing side, families and educators argue the possible threat
to an individual s First Amendment freedoms. Before analyzing the above described controversy, we
must first examine the history of the Pledge itself. Written by Francis Bellamy, it was originally titled

Author Laurie Bennett explains that, In the aftermath [...] people were hungry for social rituals and
eager to communicate a deeper sense of national belonging. They looked for symbols and rituals that
could unite them and forge bonds of community anew (Bennett, 2004). One such ritual was the Pledge
of Allegiance, which President George Bush led the entire nation in just days after 9/11. Many state
legislatures also looked for ways to access strength and unity by integrating themes of patriotism into
the public schools. This increased emphasis on patriotic exercise, although stemming somewhat from
the 9/11 crisis, also came from other sources as well. Many authors and policymakers have expressed
concern about the decline in civil engagement or attention to public life in the U.S. population
generally, and among young people in particular. A Subcommittee on Civic Education of the federal
judiciary has noted that a high level of civic disengagement, especially among the young, demands a
re commitment to education for active and effective citizenship (Bennett, 2004). Therefore, many state
governments have embraced the mandating of the Pledge in order to accomplish such a
recommitment. Supporters of daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in classrooms claim that the
rote and compulsory aspects of the Pledge are in fact beneficial. They see the rote recitation of the

Furthermore, during the winter months, basketball was the only sport I had access too because there
were indoor courts available. These environmental factors inclined me to choose basketball as my
main recreation in terms of competitive sport and now it is one of my favorite sports. It was hard for
me to engage in my previous recreational activities because nobody enjoyed playing soccer or cricket.
This constrained my choices in terms of what kind of recreational activities I wanted to do. Another
factor that separated me from playing sports such as soccer and cricket were economic factors. During
the winter season, the only way I could play these sports was if I joined the indoor leagues but these
leagues were quite expensive. Coming from a middle class family, these extra expenses were hard to
manage and sustain. Soon it became too much and so I had to quit and find other recreational activities
to do in my leisure. Due to these various sociocultural factors, my involvement in certain sports was
severely hampered while other sports such as basketball were immensely facilitated.
Another environmental factor that really controls when I do my leisure is the area or locality where I
live. I do not live in a prestigious area and thus there are many things lacking such as recreation
centers and gyms. Your built environment influences how physically active you are because you are

down syndrome and he asks his Nurse to take the baby away to an institution while he tells his wife
the baby girl died. Through out the entire book it is a struggle for Dr. Henry s wife Norah to have
closure with the fact that her baby girl is said to be dead and she never saw her, held her, or cared for

death of David. As Paul reflects at the end of the novel: His mother was right; he could never know
what might have happened. All he had were the facts . Life was also seeming to be out of anyone s
control with the struggle of the melancholy tone through the novel with Norah becoming more and
more depressed becoming that of a drinker in Paul s young life and then being so unhappy with her
marriage with David for him being so distant that she has an affair with a man while she is on a trip to
Aruba with her job. Even with the tone the author seems to have it progress in a

However, in comparison to benchmark return, we can conluded that portfolio has still not achieved

Analysis relates to the concept of Behavior Finance which is a branch of investment world that

behavior analysis reveals the pattern of how the market outcomes and an investors investment
decisions are influenced by the prevailing market information structure and characteristc of market

  • 2. C. O. D. War Case Study What did you do during the C.O.D. War? When Ted Turner was launching his cable TV empire in the 80s, he paid the bills by selling commercial space to anyone who had anything to sell. Between low budget rasslin matches and re runs of Japanese monster movies, Turner s Superstation was a televised flea market. It pitched cheap steak knives, records by faux hobo Boxcar Willie and any gizmo dreamed up by second rate Ronco imitators. The beauty was that you could order up the junk by phoning and having it sent to your house C.O.D. that means cash on delivery for all you post Internet babies who know how to buy only with plastic. In the C.O.D. epoch, if a nifty product caught your eye, all you had to do was dial the number on the screen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yodel on that, muskrat. Although many thought it was just a rumor of war, we heard tell of a teacher who received a musical toilet seat C.O.D. Every time the lid was closed, the cushy seat played Endless Love by Lionel Richie and Lady Diana Ross. Rebel insurgents must ve been responsible for that one. Loose lips sink ships, as any sailor knows, and that was our undoing after one beautiful week. What good is sending the complete collection of musical misery made by British warbler and whistler Roger Whittaker if you can t mention it to your pal, Uh, dude, after you tire of staring at your Sheena Easton poster for hours, do you find yourself, you know, whistling Sleepy London Town like a pistol whipped whippoorwill? Busted. Caught. Punk d. Outed. Hand, meet cookie jar. The retaliation was swift and costly. Recordings by Slim Whitman rained on my doorstep. Who knew there were so many archive recordings by Red Sovine the genius who gave us Teddy Bear and Little Joe, the unparalleled CB radio inspired song cycle? • 3. Effects Of Corruption On Women Through the analysis of the different aspects of corruption at different levels of society, it can be argued that the differential treatment of women and their lack of empowerment (2) is the cause of the greater effect that corrupt systems have on women (1). 1. The impact of corruption on women: the greater effect of corrupt systems on women Because corrupt systems cause women to suffer from gender specific forms of corruption (a) and difficulties in accessing public services (b), women seem to be disproportionately affected by corruption. a. The women specific practices of corruption While research often focus on the different probability to pay bribes for men and women, a strong emphasis should be placed on how men and women are differently impacted by corruption. As an abuse of entrusted power in exchange for a private gain, corruption seems to accentuate those differences, especially when it takes gender specific forms. Those are disproportionately experienced by women when the currency for bribes is of a sexual nature. For instance, sexual extortion, or sextortion, is defined as the situation where sexual favors are used as a currency for corrupt practices. This manifestation of extortion can involve diverse types of sexual assault against women, from sexual harassment to forced sex. When inflicted by public officials in exchange for the performance of a duty, it seem to fall within the definition of abuse of power and influence of the UNCAC, yet sexual extortion is ... Based on your own analysis of GAAP, explain the propriety or impropriety of capitalizing line costs in the telecom industry. Sullivan explained his rationale in a report to the Board of Directors referred as the white papers. In order to meet the customer demand for Internet and data expected to increase at the 8 times annual growth factor, Worldcom had to significantly increase its capital investments. Lease commitments were established to expedite the customer provisioning and revenue stream in accordance with SAB 101, and supplemented by FASB 91, direct and indirect costs associated with obtaining a customer may be deferred and amortized over the revenue stream associated with that contract. • 17. The Impact Of Canadian Policing During The Nineteenth Century 2) There has been an evolution of police work in Canada. A number of events have shaped Canadian policing, and in particular have shaped three different kinds. These are municipal, provincial, and federal police services. All these services had to start from somewhere. In many respects, the emergence of Canadian policing during the nineteenth century closely mirrored the development of punishment and corrections (Griffiths 2004). In the earliest days, policing in communities was carried out by community residents. Later, some communities started to rely on militias and the navy, while other regions remained unpoliced. These situations were obviously not sufficient to deal with the rising problems faced in an industrialized society. These times are categorized as early municipal policing. Complaints by fishermen led to the first court of justice in North America in Trinity Bay. These early attempts eventually failed. The English appointed fishing admirals , who were captains of fishing vessels empowered to settle disputes. These men were untrained, and normally no better than the people they were to police. In 1792 a Royal proclamation was issued that authorized the Governor of Newfoundland to appoint justices and constables (Course Notes). Early municipal police had three main mandates which were: to police conflicts with ethnic groups, to maintain moral standards by enforcing laws against drunkenness, prostitution and gambling, and to apprehend criminals. The men each give their descriptions of the different aspects of their own sport, with Piscators being so eloquent and full of depth that Venator decides to tag along and fish with him for multiple days. Auceps leaves shortly after and the book dives into the explanations, thoughts, and actions of Piscator as he shows his masterful art of angling to Venator. The main character Santiago, or The Old Man, is in a perpetual search for his masculinity. While he has no problem with established respect amongst the other fishermen, his prolonged failure sets him towards the sea where he begins to question his worth as a man. Through the ocean, and the creatures that inhabit it the hunt for what it means to be a man is the focal point of this novella. In the beginning of the novel when Santiago is conversing one on one with the boy and his fellow fishermen, the concept of masculinity is represented through a series of smaller ideas and/or representations. Santiago has very little trouble fitting into these ideas. A large symbol that relates to a real life masculine thing is beer. The boy brings the old man a beer while they have a conversation. The boy expresses his want to be a man, and the old man replies: You bought me a beer... You are already a man. (12) This insinuates that buying beer is a right of pass in becoming a man, and hence a symbol of masculinity. Another shared interest amongst the fishermen is baseball. They are not in America, but they use their radios to listen to the games while they re fishing. After the fall of Jerusalem 70AD, the Holy Spirit was obviously present for the Jewish rabbis to meet and agree on what Old Testament books would be considered Sacred Scripture: The Law, or Torah is the first five books of the Bible, the historical books, the Prophets, and the Writings. Because by the second century the Church found itself being challenged by Marcion own interpretation of God goes against the dogma of the Church therefore, twenty seven New Testament biblical books ... Origen also taught three ways of interpreting Scripture; the literal (referring to the intention of the author), the moral (our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit, we should not desecrate our temple with bad habits) and the allegorical, (eternal significance, the Church is leading us to Heaven). 1777 years later the Vatican II gave three very similar guidelines for interpreting the Bible: 1. attention to the content and unity of the whole Scripture 2. adherence to the Church s Tradition 3. mindfulness of the analogy of Faith. The analogy of Faith means the harmony or coherence of the truths of Faith relative to one another and within the whole plan of Revelation. (CCC 112 114) Presently the modern Church does offer a bible that has good footnotes, pictures, maps, and clear explanation of scripture, more importantly to combat heresy; we must read the bible with a sense of Tradition, from what the original author means to say, not what I think the reading means. Antigone had an enthusiastic determination about it, approached it without regret, and also choose her destiny and her sisters. Her father s fate was a big affect on if she was going to precede with burying her brother or to no give him the respect like the rest of the surrounding community. Sister, forbear, or I shall hate thee soon, and the dead man will hate thee too, with cause. Say I am mad and give my madness rein to wreck itself; the worst that can befall is but to die an honorable death. (92 96). Because Antigone approaches her consequences (death) without regret, her demise takes a tone other than the tragic feel of the suicides of Haemon and Eurydice. By choosing this path she did not only choose her life/future but she also the rest of her family s. • 26. American Indian Religious Freedom Act Prior to the Second World War, religious places remained untouched as they were mainly located in rural areas. However, the period after the Second World War was characterized by an increase in population, corporate farming, a more vibrant timber industry as well as an expanded recreational industry. This change resulted in less respect for the public land, and the situation was made worse by the proliferation of state and federal agencies that have no respect for the public land. It thus becomes difficult for the Native Indians to have access to shrines as the politicians promulgated rules that disregarded public land particularly places of worship. One such narrow minded law that has failed to achieve its ultimate goal is the American Indian Religious Freedom Act that was enacted in 1978. The law made it clear the government efforts of protecting the religious rights of the American Indians not only to express their belief but also to practice this believes through traditional religion. However, this law faced major blows especially on the corridors of justice where the Court viewed the Congress action in enacting the American Indian Religious Freedom Act as efforts of the government to establish a state religion. Instead of the government respecting the right of the Indians to maintain their religious places, it invokes its power as the custodian of the public land by claiming that it has the mandate of utilizing any piece of public land for the benefit of the entire ... The Three Reasons And Rationales For The Exclusionary Rule The following are the three justifications and their rationales for the exclusionary rule: Constitutional rights, judicial integrity and deterrence. Because of the Constitutional rights the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights wouldn t mean anything without the exclusion. In regards to judicial integrity the courts shouldn t contribute in unconstitutional behavior by approving it. To ensure deterrence in negative police conduct steps in prevention of unconstitutional conduct by government officers are taken. The justification that the U.S. Supreme Court uses today for the exclusionary rule is, The reasonable, good faith exception, created by U.S. v. Leon (1984), allows the government to use evidence obtained from searches based on unlawful search if officers honestly and reasonably believed they were lawful. The law was created to prevent misconduct. The rule has no deterrent effect if officers believed they were doing everything legitimately. There are six exceptions to the exclusionary rule, but I am going to name five. They are: Collateral use, independent source, cross examination, attenuation of the taint of constitutional conduct, and inevitable discovery. Whenever the use of evidence is obtained illegally it is admissible in all non trial settings. This is Collateral use. • 32. Classical Utilitarianism In The Meatpacking Factory Question #2: The Meatpacking Factory According to classical utilitarianism, we must allocate the total amount of happiness among as many people as possible (Pojman, 218). When analyzing whether to allow the Islamic employees the right to pray on break, utilitarians may argue that allowing Islamic employees, who only make up 20% of the factory population, the right to pray is a decision that focuses on the minority as opposed to what is best for the majority. Furthermore, there is evidence that allowing Islamic employees to take flexible breaks hinders the factory s productivity, which damages profits, and in turn, hurts not only the factory employees but also the shareholders in the company. Additionally, the issue is also forming tensions between the Islamic and non Islamic employees. For all these reasons, utilitarians could argue that it is better for the majority if Windham did not allow the Islamic workers to pray during work. However, this is an incomplete argument because it fails to account for the potential consequences. Should Windham choose to violate the agreement he has established with the Islamic workers, he runs the risk of being sued for violating his agreement with the Islamic employees. Furthermore, Windham risks external organizations becoming involved because he is violating the workers rights to practice their faith. Both of these ramifications would not only hurt his company because of negative publicity but would also hurt key stakeholders because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The cell s nonmembranous organelles include the cytoskeleton, microvilli, centrioles, cilia, ribosomes, and proteasomes. Membranous organelles include the endoplasmic reticulum, the Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, peroxisomes, and mitochondria. Organelle Location and function Cytoskeleton Serves as the cell s skeleton. It is an interior protein system that gives the cytoplasm quality and adaptability. The cytoskeleton of all cells is made of microfilaments, halfway fibers, and microtubules. Muscle cells contain these cytoskeletal parts in addition to thick fibers. The fibers and microtubules of the cytoskeleton frame a dynamic system whose ceaseless rearrangement influences cell shape and capacity. Microvilli Numerous cells have little, finger formed projections of the plasma film on their uncovered surfaces. These projections, called microvilli (solitary, microvillus), significantly increment the surface territory of the phone presented to the extracellular environment. Likewise, they cover the surfaces of cells that are effectively engrossing materials from the extracellular liquid, for example, the cells coating the stomach related tract. They looked for symbols and rituals that could unite them and forge bonds of community anew (Bennett, 2004). One such ritual was the Pledge of Allegiance, which President George Bush led the entire nation in just days after 9/11. Many state legislatures also looked for ways to access strength and unity by integrating themes of patriotism into the public schools. This increased emphasis on patriotic exercise, although stemming somewhat from the 9/11 crisis, also came from other sources as well. Many authors and policymakers have expressed concern about the decline in civil engagement or attention to public life in the U.S. population generally, and among young people in particular. A Subcommittee on Civic Education of the federal judiciary has noted that a high level of civic disengagement, especially among the young, demands a re commitment to education for active and effective citizenship (Bennett, 2004). Therefore, many state governments have embraced the mandating of the Pledge in order to accomplish such a recommitment.
