Why Is Karl Marx Called The Proletariat
The Harvest shows the life of what Karl Marx termed the proletariat . Proletariat is Marx s term
for the exploited class, the mass of workers who do not own the means of production. These
people have been put in poor work conditions and work for the class, as Marx puts it, called the
Bourgeoisie. These are the capitalists who own the means of production. The capitalists watch over
the companies, and make and change policy. The proletariats have to work poor means to keep
these companies going. The one girl from The Harvest, Zulema, says that in 1 week she makes 64
dollars. This is sad, but none the less she is part of this lower class and must abide by these means.
The main problem that this presents is what Marx is known for, which

Social Phobia And Social Anxiety Disorder
I believe that social phobia or social anxiety disorder (SAD) is most common type of phobia. In
this group of social anxiety disorder, Glossophobia, Paruresis, and the fear of eating in front of
others, are subdivided into three types of phobia with various symptoms and treatments.
Phobias can be described as an extreme, irrational fear of specific objects, situations or activities.
Social phobia or social anxiety disorder (SAD) is the most common anxiety disorder, it is a
disorder characterized by a fear of humiliation in certain performances or interactional situations.
Studies have shown that this disorder is co occurring with depression, other anxiety disorder,
personality disorder, or social impediment. Individuals who have social phobia would often
avoid situations where scrutiny may occur or they may come across intense anxiety. According
to epidemiological studies, the rates of having social phobia or social anxiety disorder (SAD)
range from 3% to 16% of the general population. For some, social phobias have an early
beginning between the ages of 11 19, after the age of 25 it s rather uncommon. Individuals with
social anxiety disorder are more likely to be females; however in scientific trials social anxiety
disorder appears to be more equally among men and women.
Researchers have demonstrated that there are effective and well tolerated treatments. One way to
treat social phobia or social anxiety disorder is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT is the
most studied

Mexican-American
LГЎzaro Cardenas Mexican Populism
The Early Years/ The Birth of Populism LГЎzaro CГЎrdenas del RГo (May 21, 1895 October 19,
1970) was President of Mexico from 1934 to 1940. From CГЎrdenas plebian roots, in the lower
middle class he eked out a substantial, moving and largely successful leadership role in a
reformative Mexico. Born in the village of Jiquilpan, MichoacГЎn, CГЎrdenas supported his
widowed mother and seven younger siblings from the age of sixteen. His many professional
pursuits included a tax collector, a printer s devil (apprentice to a printer) and a jail keeper, all by
the age of eighteen. CГЎrdenas had very little formal education, leaving school at eleven to help
support his family he often sought opportunities to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the first things that CГЎrdenas did after his successful campaign was to cut his own
presidential salary in half, and this was only the beginning. After he had successfully developed his
presidential role he turned against Calles completely and had him and many of his cronies deported
to the US, at great popular support of many in the Mexican population who had been victim and
seen the destruction that this long held post revolutionary cronyism had upon their once hopeful
nation. (Knight 1990) CГЎrdenas also eradicated capital punishment, becoming one of the first
nations in the world to do so and certainly one of the first in North and South America. CГЎrdenas
successful presidency, elimination of much of the political cronyism as well as social policy
changes also created a reasonable end to the revolutionary skirmishes that were still taking place
more than 20 years after the beginning of the Mexican revolution in 1910. His partnership with the
dominant political party, PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional) helped end a substantial
amount of violence and social confusion, almost absent of revolutionary bloodshed. (Bantjes 1996,
62 64, 69, 96, 192) CГЎrdenas, also had an almost mythical position as a favorite of the people, as
he traversed the nation without the traditional armed guard, and armored cars, further

Trans-pacific partnership
The Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement and the U.S. economy Executive Summary The Trans
Pacific Partnership Agreement is a free trade agreement initiated in 2005 and was joined by the
U.S. in 2008 which proposes to liberalize trade in the Asia Pacific region. There is much concern
over the Intellectual Property proposals put forth by the U.S. These proposals threaten to dial
back public health safeguards set forth in the 2007 New Trade Deal of the Bush administration,
increase prices of consumer goods, and restrict access to information on the internet. There are 12
countries involved in negotiations, with China as an observer and considering entry. Overall, these

foreign policy in regards to China. China has an interest in observing the TPP negotiations because
not only are they struggling to keep the value of the yuan low in order to continue to attract FDI,
but the continued liberalization of its neighbors borders is making other players in the region
increasingly competitive in regards to attracting foreign business. A growing number of countries in
the area joining the trade agreement, dropping trade barriers and providing cheap labor without the
bad reputation for product quality fade and infringement of IP rights will provide plenty of
alternatives for foreign businesses looking to invest in the region. It is true that China is attempting
to move its economy away from being a manufacturing powerhouse and into the next stage of
development, but the threat of a massive outflow of foreign business, and the capital it provides,
cannot be overlooked. Thus, if China joins the TPP so as not to be left behind, then it will have
agreed to adopt the foreign trade policies set forth by the trade agreement. This means that strict
intellectual property rights will help to ease the concerns many have about China s continued
infringements of property rights and general theft of R D and intellectual property. Although being
bound to an international agreement and actually enforcing (let alone practicing) the aspects of the
contract are quite different matters, the added scrutiny China would be subject

Ethical Concerns Of Stem Cell Research Essay
Steven Weinberg, a famous theoretical physicist, once said, It does not help that some politicians
and journalists assume the public is interested only in those aspects of science that promise
immediate practical applications to technology or medicine (Doc, 2016, p. 1). Though this refers to
many, if not all, fields of science when there are new technological advances, there is one in
particular that falls under this assumption. There are two basic fields within stem cellresearch and
the one under the most scrutiny is embryonic stem cellresearch. To be able to use their stem cells
without killing them has not been developed yet, so many articles on ethical concerns of stem cell
research are focused on this specific topic. Many areas of science are treated as unethical, but stem
cell research, which is considered the worst, could single handedly reshape the world as we know it.
Description of Stem Cells
Unlike the other cells that make up living organisms, stem cells are very different from the others
by two distinguishing characteristics. First, they can be used to become tissue or other specific
cells, mainly organs, with special functions. Second, they are generalized cells capable of restoring
themselves through cell division (NIH, 2015). In some organs, including bone marrow, stem cells
regularly divide to repair and replace worn out or damaged tissues. In other organs, however, such
as the pancreas and the heart, stem cells only divide under special conditions

Primary Care Ethics
There was a lot of literature on health care clinical ethics, considerably less literature on health care
organizational and administrative ethics. Many times what is good for health care business may
not be ethical, causing an ethics gap. Ethics gaps can be identified and corrected by careful analysis
of an institution s organizational culture. A true case study on how a nursewas able to change a
tainted organization into a responsible one by ethics infrastructure changes. Finally, implications for
healthcare were addressed.

Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s Lord Of The Flies
Writing has always been the primary vehicle for social commentary and reform. From Upton
Sinclair s damning exposure of the meat processing industry in The Jungle, to George Orwell s
grave warning concerning communism in Animal Farm, to William Goulding s disturbing look at
human nature post World War 2 in Lord of the Flies, countless authors have attempted to expose
flaws in their society through writing. Rome, as a growing republic, and later as a sprawling
empire, was consistently rife with corruption, abuse of power, and the degradation of morals.
Writers like Sallust, Juvenal, and Tacitussaw these social flaws as opportunities, whether to drive
social or political change, or to increase their influence, or just to make a statement to the
government and the Roman people. However, these three writers each took a different approach to
his commentary. Through comedic hyperbole and satire, Juvenal looked to expose the moral
degradation of Roman women in Satire VI. On the other hand, Sallust focused on political
corruption in the late Roman Republic, using the history of the Jugurthine War as a lens by which
to observe the corruption he despised. With yet another approach, Tacitus aimed to criticize despots
like Emperor Domitian and to denounce imperialism through the biography of Agricola, the Roman
general who conquered Britain.
The Jugurthine War (114 118) (Marius s speech) Living from 86 to 35 BC, Gaius Sallustius
Crispus, more commonly knowns as Sallust, was the

Facts:
After Maria and Tatsuo are divorced, their two children continue to live with Maria. Pursuant to
their divorce decree, Tatsuo pays Maria $1,000 per month in child support and $1,800 per month in
alimony. The divorce decree specifies that in the event of a court ordered increase in child support,
the alimony payment amount will decrease by the amount of the child support increase. That is,
Tatsuo s total monthly payment cannot exceed $2,800.
Issues:
How much of each payment is considered alimony? Does the change in child support have an effect
on the amount of alimony received?
Conclusion:
Generally, child support is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such events that are included are: the child s attaining a specified age or income level, dying,
marrying, leaving school, leaving the spouse s household, or gaining employment. Whether such
event is certain or likely to occur is not considered in determining the contingency.
A similar case to Maria s is presented in the court case, Heller v. Commissioner, T.C. Memo 1994
423 (1994). Heller (the petitioner) received certain payments from her former husband, some of
which were designated as spousal support and the remaining were designated as child support.
Heller received $1,700 per month as spousal support, none of which was reported on her tax return.
The divorce instrument stated that future spousal support would be reduced by any court mandated
increase in child support.
The Court cited Sec. 71 (c) (2) of the Internal Revenue Code and said that the provision which
allows spousal support to be decreased by future court mandated increases in child support is not
considered a contingency related to a child. The Court then ruled that the payments received by the
petitioner for spousal support should have been included in her tax return and constitutes taxable
alimony.
Maria s situation is similar to the Heller case. The increase in child support from a court order is
not considered a contingency related to a child and does not decrease alimony. Therefore, as it was
also noted in Treasury Regulations Sec. 1.71 1T

Haroun and the Sea of Stories: Magic Meets Real World Haroun and the Sea of Stories is a
children s novel, written by Salman Rushdie, who is one of the prominent authors of magical
realism in English literature. The novel brings together real world elements and features of magic or
the supernatural. Using elements of literature such as made up words and rhyming throughout
Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Rushdie showcases why he is a distinguished author of magical
realism. (Warnes) The novel begins by introducing the city in which the main character lives.
Rushdie calls it the sad city because the citizens are so depressed, they have forgotten the city s
actual name. Haroun and his parents are the only people not depressed. Rashid, Haroun s father,
is a famous story teller. The depressed citizens solely care about facts and see no purpose in
these made up stories. Haroun s upstairs neighbor, Mr. Sengupta, is always complaining to
Haroun s mother about these stories and eventually runs off with her. This leads to the main
conflict of the story, Rashid becoming so sad he forgets how to tell his stories. (Rushdie, 12 26)
Rashid needs to perform stories for multiple politicos, but draws a blank. After angering the
politicos, they send him to Valley of K. Haroun and his father go to the bus station so they can ride
to the Valley of K, and eventually convince a psychotic bus driver, Mr. Butt, to take

How Does Luis Valdez Present Social Injustice In Zoot Suit
Zoot Suit is a play, written by Luis Valdez, based on the Sleepy Lagoon murders and the Zoot
Suit riots of the nineteen forties. In this play, Valdez embodies Chicano culture and social
injustice. Upon reading the play, it is very apparent that the main source of injustice is
institutional racism and it is shown in the court scenes of this play. It starts with the Opening of
the Trial (Act I,Scene 9) and in this it proves that the court itself has already set up Henry and the
gang for failure. They failed to show any human decency in which they did not allow the boys to
wear clean clothes or even fix their hair. The appearance of pachucoculture is based of off their

Its starts with the press. The press was an important symbol of racism in which they would
report and paint their own image of pachucos in order to criminalize them to the public. In this
case, Valdez cleverly uses the press character as the prosecutor as well. In this scene, the press is
setting up Della to self incriminating questions by connecting the boys to weapons that were
never found at the crime scene and trying to coerce her answers into sounding like confessions.
Of course the judge was no help because he was against the pachucos from the start, in fact in
this scene it reveals that even their lawyer knew that they were going to lose. In the end, it was
the prosecution s concluding statement that defined this as a racist trial. The prosecutor says it
himself, the specific details of this murder are irrelevant before the overwhelming danger of the
pachuco in our midst (62). On a trial about murder it is very odd to hear that the specific details
are irrelevant and it proves that this trial is more than what it is. They are not on trial for what
they could have done, they are on trial for what they might do because in their perspectives;
rapists, drug abusers, or violent gang members is all a Mexican can

for sustainable development goals. The focus of this paper will be on Goal 14, Conserve and
sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development (United
Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, n.d.). Are the Targets Truly Measurable?
The targets (1 7) of Goal 14 are designed to provide ways to monitor the progress of this goal.
Generally, these targets do this, however, they do not provide specifics for the ways in which they
should be measured. For instance, target 14.1 refers to prevention and reduction of marine
pollution, but there is no indication of the way in which this can be done. Target 14.5 is to... Show

In Canada, the government has measures to reduce threats of pollution from land based activities
and spills (Environment Canada, 2013). Globally, there is UNEP s Global Programme of Action for
the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land based Activities (GPA). At least 72 countries
have created programs of marine protection and pollution reduction since GPA was established
(Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land based
Activities, 2014). It was difficult to find research to support whether target, 14.2 (sustainably
manage marine ecosystems by 2020) is being measured. The Intergovernmental Oceanographic
Commission (IOC) of UNESCO works with several global/intergovernmental programs of
Ecosystem Health and Ocean Observation. The IOC assesses marine environment globally working
with national governments and collects data on marine environment to help inform decision makers

All Quiet On The Western Front And Night
Long Essay #1 In the two books we read in class, All Quiet on the Western Front and Night we
see that the two world wars of the twentieth century produced unprecedented destruction to
human life. We see this because in Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, he says that after
witnessing bodies getting blown up, people getting shot, things burning down and loud noises
every day, he was forced to realize that he no longer belonged to the society that he came from.
He realized that he now belonged to the world of war and that even if he tried to go back to his
home, there would be nothing left for him to go back to. Throughout the books he makes
references that his family becomes the people he was fighting with, even the people he was
fighting against because they were the only ones who understood what he was going through
(Remarque, 1929). He and his family no longer kept in contact and so he was basically in the
world alone with no practically no loved one to lean on. The same goes for the Ellie Wiesel s
Night. Ellie gets taken away from his family and forcibly put into a concentration camp in which
he never knew existed. The camp life was harsh and brutal. He saw sons killing their fathers for
food and people dying every day simply for the lack of water. He was forced to do hard work and
take long journey s in which had the intention of killing him and his counter parts because they
were Jewish. He no longer spoke to his mother or sister and his father had just died.

Australia And Japan Expressed Their Interest Of Signing A...
Australia and Japan expressed their interest in signing a defence technology cooperation agreement
after Japanese Prime Minister Abe and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott s meeting during
Abe s visit to Australia in July (Prime Minister of Australia 2014). This is surprising for the
international society as the Japanese constitution did not allow Japan to export its military
technologies until the Japanese government s recent change to Article 9 (Nye 2014). Even though
the agreement is not signed yet, this news had attracted many attention from around the globe.
There are various kinds of explanations and analyzations on why this two states would choose to
release such information at this time. The argument for this essay would be that the defence
technology cooperation agreement may be one of the many policies that aims on making Japan a
normal country, in response in the rising power of China and the threats from Korea, so that it can
play a better role in balancing regional security. This essay will try to prove this argument by briefly
introducing why Japan is not a normal country within the international society and Prime Minister
Abe s recent efforts to change this situation, how a defence technology cooperation agreement
between Australia and Japan can play a critical role on this matter, why Japan and Australia are
considering choose to sign such agreement with each other, and the incentives for Australia to

Lord Krishna one of the most powerful incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Krishna plays a very
vital role in the Hinduism thoughts and philosophies, influencing not only the religion, philosophy
and its spirituality but also the literature, culture and heritage. From his initial days as a little kid

always make me worship him in appreciation but when it comes to his role in Mahabharata, the
feelings however are not same.
Were his deeds right or not is a big question. Were all the decisions taken by him right? The way
he behaved around draupadi was it right? Was his manipulating Arjun right? So many questions

Examples Of Trust In The Odyssey
Trust is something that cannot be measured but rather it can be shown by action. In the story of
Odysseus, Odysseus has been changing in the course of the story, beginning of the story he didn t
trust his men and as the story progress he started to trust the people around him. In beginning of the
story, Odysseus doesn t trusthis men and thought what he was doing was right. When they landed
on the island of Aiolia, which was ruled by the god of the winds, Aiolos. After staying there for
month when they were about to leave Aiolos gives them a bag of winds , which Odysseus keep
and doesn t give his men to take a look at so they start sailing back. As they are sailing back

This shows that Odysseus thought he was very smart and he knew what he was doing so he
didn t tell his men so which result him to go backward and all of the sailing time was wasted.
And if Odysseus told his men that he got bag of gift and don t open then there wouldn t be this
much of trouble. Sometimes you have to trust the people around otherwise you will fail in that
situation and maybe even in life. If we don t trust others then how others going to trust us. Another
example from the story is when they are at the island of the Lotus eaters. There Odysseus sends
three of his men to see if they find something on the island that can be valuable. And they wouldn t
want to leave so he told the rest of his men that if you taste the lotus then you will lose hope for
going home (Homer 8). This shows that Odysseus knew that the three men wanted to stay but he
forced them to leave because he knew or thought that since he wanted to go home then

Food Groups And Calories Report
When looking at my Food Groups and Calories Report, I noticed that I almost did not meet the
requirements for any of the food groups. The only food group that I did OK with was protein.
However; I was under on all of the other food groups such as grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy and
oils. This may have something to do with the number of calories that were consumed within that
two day period. This report was based on a 2400 calorie allowance and the number of calories
that I consumed was 934 calories short of that allowance. The report also seems to be based on a
full week so that could have also played a role in the food groups not being met. The number of
grains that were allowed to me was eight ounces and I had zero ounces of whole grains and three
ounces of refined grains. I was given at least three cups of vegetables and I did not consume any
dark green, red, orange, beans or peas, I only consumed one half of a cup of starchy vegetables.
Two cups of fruits were a target for me, however, I did not eat any whole fruits and had one
fourth cup of fruit juice. Although, I only had one fourth cup of dairy with cheese and zero cups
of milk or yogurt, the main target was set at three cups. As I mentioned before, the protein portion
of the report was met, with the target being set at six and a half ounces and that target being met
with five ounces of meat, poultry and eggs and one and a half of an ounce of seafood. Looking at

Human Trafficking And The Economic Sphere
Critically analyze the development of human trafficking and its connections to the legitimate
economic sphere. To what extent is this market a result of global structural conditions?
In recent years, due to the threat it poses to human security, human trafficking has been identified
as one of the major and fast growing transnational problems. It is also perceived as a form of
modern slavery and one of the greatest human rights challenges of our times. Therefore, tackling
human trafficking is highly prioritized in many countries (European Commission, 2009). In the
last 20 years the occurrence of human trafficking has dramatically increased, and trade in human
beings has become one large part of the illicit global economy. Many criminals see this type of
transnational crime as a low risk high reward crime, and this may be one of the reasons why
they show a preference for it (Lee, 2007). The United Nations Protocol to Prevent, Suppress, and
Punish Trafficking in Persons, also known as the Palermo Protocol, adopted in 2000 defines
human trafficking as: The recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons,
by means of threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception,
of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or
benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of

Saint Thomas Aquinas As A Man With An Unearthly Intellect...
Torrell Review Saint Thomas Aquinas is known by most as a man with an unearthly intellect.
Throughout his brilliant life, he produced many works that have helped defend the Catholic church
s position against many atheistic arguments, specifically materialism. Because of his gifted
intellect, at times, many may fail to recognize that in order for one to have such gifts, there needs
to be a desire and firm commitment in their spiritual life to submit to the will of God. In Jean Pierre
Torrell s proclamation of Aquinas spiritual life, Saint Thomas Aquinas: Spiritual Master, he
addresses the importance and explains Aquinas transcendent mind in two sections: A Trinitarian
Spirituality and Man in the World and Before God. This explanation is done is a similar style to
Aquinas himself, in which, he writes in an ontological order so that the later context can be
perfected by the earlier and visa verse. This overview takes aim and clearly orientates Aquinas
understanding of Nature, humanity, human society, politics, and fellowship through
communication with God and each other. Essentially, one can find that Aquinas thought is not only
rooted in the mystical teachings of the Catholic faith but is very practical and applicable to the
physical and metaphysical worlds. In order to proceed with further explanation, it is import to give
a summary of Aquinas s spirituality and theology, as Torrell does. The reason being, as Torrell puts
it, Spirituality is one of the vaguest terms

Cultural Similarities Between India And India
Cultural Similarities and Differences between China and India Introduction
There is a great deal more in like manner between the two nations socially, than say, between a
Chinese (or Indian) and an American or European. A snag might be the dialect. Numerous Chinese
from Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong visiting India communicates in English and feel good in
their relations with Indian individuals. Indian individuals are insightful, persevering and family
situated, same as the Chinese (Moran 345). They are likewise extraordinarily otherworldly and
demonstrate resilience and regard for other individuals religions and convictions. In Hong Kong, by
far most of Indians communicate in Cantonese. They are fruitful in what they do and fit into the
group consistently.
Cultural Similarities
Moreover, as neighbors for a long time, a great deal of culture has been shared and exchanged
between the two. In that capacity, the way of life is fundamentally the same as from various
perspectives. One could compose a book on this theme (Moran 345). It is just a small attempt to
give you an insight of how similar are these two countries. Indian and Chinese culture contingent on
four social variables which are: Cooking, Celebrations, Conventional Dress and Customary Music.

Even as far back as the United States independence, women did not possess any civil rights.
According to Janda, this view is also known as protectionism, the notion that women mush be
sheltered from life s harsh realities. Protectionism carried on throughout the general populations
view for many decades until the 1920 s when the women s movement started. Women finally
received the right to vote in the Nineteenth Amendment. The traditional views of protectionism,
however, remained in people s minds until the 1970 s (Janda et al, 2000: 538 539). Around this

Great Britain, West Germany, France, and East Germany. In order to examine the dilemma of these
beliefs, specific variables are chosen and run through the program using the results of the surveys.
First, variables referring to women job independence and women and their children were analyzed
across nation to understand what nations views on women workers. Then a cross tabulation of
the variable KID.JOB (referring to the statement if a preschool child is affected by a working
mother) across nation is analyzed. Then other cross tabulations of KID.JOB to religiosity (PIOUS)
and age (AGE) across nation were run through SPSS to prove that these are factors in individuals

Though great change happened in abundance, each change was different for the multitude of
continents present. The greatest changes possibly occurred in respect to Europe, West Africa, and
the Americas. Europe experienced a complete overhaul of society. They moved away from
societies based on protection and moved more towards being ruled over by monarchs. They moved
away from services dependent on others and tried to focus more on mercantilism. Contrarily, West

Do Consequences Depend on Motives in Julius Caesar by...
An American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr once said, All human sin seems so much worse in its
consequences than in its intentions. In this statement, Niebuhr exclaims that the consequences of a
situation are undeniably much worse than the motivation of one s instigation of their actions. This
applies to the intentions and, more importantly, the consequences of the characters in both the play
Julius Caesarby William Shakespeare and film Wall Street: Money Never Sleepsdirected by Oliver
Stone. Even though some people have honorable intentions and mean no harm, the consequences
can still be disastrous. In much the same way, those with fraudulent intentions also suffer in the
end. Situations like these can be accurately viewed through both the play and the film. The
characters Brutus and Jacob Moore have no other reason but to act in a worthy way. While Cassius
and Gordon Gekko have deceptive intentions, consequences incur similar to Brutus and Jacob
Moore. The intentions may seem like the most important consideration in a decision, but, in reality,
the penalties can be the same no matter what the motives are.
A motive to kill one s best friend requires deep thinking and a reasonable intention. Brutus, Caesar
s best friend, has taken into consideration why he thinks killing Caesar is necessary. Although
Brutus is Caesar s best friend, he has to come to conclusion that murdering him is his final decision
when he asserts, Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome

Essay Jewish Resistance to the Nzi Holocaust
Despite all of these internal and external factors contributing to a lack of Jewish resistance to the
Holocaust, there was resistance in existence in many forms; the resistance that did occur must not
be diminished or overlooked. When considering the definition of resistance , historians divide
themselves on what this entails; some believe it to be only active, armed resistance attempts, while
others define it more liberally. According to Yehuda Bauer, resistance entails any group action
consciously taken in opposition to known or surmised laws, actions, or intentions directed against
the Jews by the Germans and their supporters. Considering resistance with a broad definition such
as this ensures that the efforts made at resistance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This symbolic form of resistance is placed within Bauer s definition of resistance in that it
entailed group demonstrations and protests actively opposed to the Nazi regime. Non violent
resistance began to evolve as the Jews were transported to the concentration camps. Upon their
initial arrival in the concentration camps, inmates attempted to aid each other in various ways,
such as by giving those that were extremely malnourished extra food or attempting to lessen the
workload on those that were weaker by taking their place; these acts, although not aimed directly
against the SS, were simply keeping one another alive. These acts can be considered under
Bauer s definition of resistance in that the groups motives in sustaining themselves as a whole
was in direct opposition to the central idea of the SS to break down and destroy the Jewish
population. These acts also helped lead to the later active, armed resistance in that they helped to
keep inmates alive and maintain their strength, as well as providing them with a will to resist. As
the Jews became aware of their imminent extinction, resistance continued to evolve, taking a more
direct form in instances of escape and sabotage. There were instances of Jewish escape from
concentration camps; two Jewish prisoners successfully escaped from Dachau in 1933 and later
publicized what was occurring in the camp. However, instances of escape were

Volcanoes are an important part of my life. As soon as I learned that my husband was being

also hugely passionate about education and conservation which makes maintaining the integrity

that they are most efficient at producing in relation to other countries, and trade those
commodities with the rest of the world. It is possible to say that a country can export its
commodities and consequently raise foreign currency, with which it can import the other
commodities in need. The better a country is at producing its specialized commodities, the more
revenue it will raise from its exports and the more it will be able to procure imports. This trade
theory has given birth to a new direction for economic policy, namely the export led growth [ELG]
hypothesis (Zuniga, 2000). The ELG hypothesis postulates that export expansion is a key

Behavior Is Most Influenced by the Nurturing of Our Parents
A person s behavior is influenced by the way their parents raised them. Being nurtured by someone
at such a young age, many do not realize how much of an influence their parent was to their
development. People only understand the significance of parenting until they start tending their

parents assume. It is vital for parents to realize that every action they conduct is significant in a

make demands about their behavior nor set limits for their children to follow. Parents do not set

rules, schedules, and activities. Parents of this particular parenting style believe children will
learn best on their own and would prefer to be their child s friend, buddy, and confidant than a
parent. Though parents do not set rigid rules like authoritarian parents, they are generally
loving, supportive, nurturing, warm, and accepting. The main concern is to let their child

are rarely home for their children as they are too consumed with work. Some families struggle
financially and become disengaged from children by the sheer economics of survival working

permissive parenting style is the most damaging approach to raise children. Children of this

The Physics of a Golf Ball Essay
The Physics of a Golf Ball
The first written reference of golf was in 1457. Golf balls have had extraordinary changes since
that time; they ve gone from leather pouches to dried gum to today s dimpled balls. These dimples
help decrease the drag and increase the lift. Different forces are applied to the golf ball when struck
by the club. Golf clubs have grooves to create backspin. And then there are different variables
that affect how a golf ball will travel, these include: lie angle and the shaft length. A golfer must
never forget about the wind factor . And last but not least , a golfer must flat out use his own
judgment in the game of golf. The game of golf has a science all of it s own, and even the best

Therefore, the Gutta percha ball arrived on the scene in 1848 to take on the role of smooth,
solid, dried gum from the Malaysian sapodilla tree. These guttie balls had two negatives; they
sometimes broke into pieces as some modern solid balls have been known to do and they did not
fly as well as the feather balls. None the less, as these balls were used their surfaces became
roughened. Players soon realized, however, that cut up balls flew further and the concept of
dimples was born. But why are dimples purposely molded into the modern day golf ball? This
question deals with the way that air affects the flight of a spinning object (or aerodynamics if you
will) and that s the bottom line. Moreover, two simple principles will be discussed in great detail
hereafter: lift and drag. Let s not run faster than we are able though. Before we get on a rampage
let s look at what experience has taught us about a spinning ball. A British scientist in 1887,
Professor P.G. Tait owns all the credit to the findings concerning the importance of spin on the
flight of a golf ball. He relates that in his youth he was taught that all spin is detrimental and he
practiced assiduously to master the art of hitting a ball almost free of spin. After many complex
and frustrating experiences, Professor Tait states clearly that, a ball driven with spin about a

constitution has an article called Article 25A. Which is the Right to education. It states that the
government of Pakistan is responsible for providing free and compulsory education. Unfortunately,
the government only goes so far. Low budget and funding for education are main struggles on the

Randall Jarrell Essay
The Fabulous Life and Works of Randall Jarrell The experience collected throughout a lifetime
shape a person s identity, with each choice made, bringing one closer to self realization, and the
lessons of the past always affecting the decisions of the future. This phenomenon can be clearly
observed when looking back on the life and works of Randall Jarrell, a literary genius during the
World War Two era. Throughout his life Jarrell collected experiences which shaped not only his
works, but also forged who he became as a person. Events which occurred all the way from Jarrell
s early childhood up to his late adulthood, and everything in between, were important to his
development as a writer. His passion for poetry, his time spent criticizing... Show more content on

Amidst the onslaught of industrialism, propaganda, and the horrific realization of a world at war,
arose the most celebrated work of Randall Jarrell. His most famous poem: The Death of the Ball
Turret Gunner, came from his own background with the air force. Although he was unable to meet
the requirements for becoming a pilot Jarrell ...trained Air Force pilots and worked with them in
the celestial navigation tower, (McCann 2) an experience which made him an authority figure
among many wartime poets. Many of Jarrell s best works came from his time in the Air Force
training pilots and operating the navigation tower. Having that kind of first hand experience with
current events allowed Jarrell to reach an audience that became captivated by his poetry, which
struck the heart of certain issues. Without these back influencing what he chose to write about and
how he wrote it, Jarrell most certainly would not have been remembered as he currently is. More
importantly, without the experiences that he had in his life Randall Jarrell would not have been
able to become the person or the writer that he

The Main Reasons For The Fall Of Tsar Nicholas II In 1917
Was the impact of WW1 the main reason for the fall of Tsar Nicholas II in 1917?
The fall of the Romanov Dynasty in 1914 proved that the Tsar could not handle the problems of
Russia. Ironically, he would have been ideal as a constitutional monarch, but was adamant against
the idea. As the First World War started Russias problems arises, from short term and long term
causes. The war brought back inflation which led to demonstrations over food shortages
combined with workers grievances, (Hosking, 2012, p. 91) thus this destroyed Nicholas s image
as Father of Russia. Military became ineffective as the transport system was not adequate, thus
leading to food supplies decreasing in key cities such as Petrograd. Historians believe the
impacts of the First World War led to Russian society becoming unstable and was ultimately the
main reason of the downfall of the Tsar. However other factors, such as the Tsarina placing large
amounts of trust into Rasputin who was notorious for his reputation as an alcoholic and a
womanizer (Westwood, 2002, p. 215) and the role of the revolutionaries due to Lenin promising
peace, land and bread, eventually leading to the growth of the Bolsheviks Party. Although, it can
most rightfully be deemed that the impact of the war was the main reason for the fall of Tsar
Nicholas II in 1917.
The First World War was seen as a devastating impact on Tsardom and is seen as the main reason
for the fall of Tsar Nicholas II in 1917. The effect of the war was

Leadership Behavior In Lao Tzu
Introduction Lao Tzu, the Father of Taoism, lived a large part of his life searching for an
individual s path of natural goodness. He is known for numerous inspirational quotes, such as Be
the Chief, but never the lord. This has been a source of encouragement throughout my Coast
Guard career. The title of lord is inherited or assigned as a positional power granted by
landowners. The Chief is chosen by the people to make the right decisions for their advantage. It is
an earned position of trust. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of
leadershipis to have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force
granted to them by rank and expect subordinates to follow blindly. They must demonstrate leading
by example and be a role model for others to admire.
Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I recognize my definition of leadership in my mentors and
supervisors. A short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd
Reno, Commander John Humpage, Rear Admiral Joanna Nunan, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their
leadership naturally flowed from their personalities. I viewed these men and woman as my leaders
and their attitudes is what made me choose to follow them.

Consumer Privacy Companies Woo Business Companies
The article, found in The Wall Street Journal, Consumer Privacy Companies Woo Business
Companies by Elizabeth Dwoskin, gives us a brief overlook at how more products are aiming
toward the protection of consumers privacy. On March 2nd, Silent Circle announced the release of
their Blackphone as an enterprise product. The Blackphone is an android phone announced last
year that aims at giving its consumers total privacy. It accomplishes this by encrypting all data
stored by voice or text message. Additionally calls and data are sent through virtual private
networks not through the Internet. In doing so it grants ultimate protection for the user by insuring
that no information can get hacked into because it has never been connected to the Internet.
Although this product was already released last year, this year the company is pursuing businesses
to use it as solely a company use phone. With about 40% of people using their personal phones for
business, major companies are put at risk of losing significant information. Silent Circle s products
are able to give ease to this possibility. Over recent years, consumers have been putting a greater
emphasis on online privacy. An increasing amount of users are purchasing privacy protecting
programs designed to protect personal information stored in computers. With recent hacks to major
companies, businesses are also increasing their cyber security. Experts predict that the spending on
cyber security product will increase to $83.2

Comparision Of Microscale Masses Of Hydrogen And Oxygen
Abstract
In this experiment, microscale quantities of hydrogen and oxygen were generated to test their
explosive nature both separately and in mixtures of various proportions in order to identify the
mixture with the most explosive energy, via a pop test that measured relative loudness, thus
determining the optimal ratio for their combustion reaction to give water, and determine a mole
ratio for the reaction in a balanced equation. Each gas mixture was then tested for power as fuel
through the launching of a micro mole rocket. The gases were produced via two separate
generators which isolated a chemical reaction to either produce oxygen or hydrogen gas, the
reactions included the single replacement reaction reaction of zinc and hydrochloric acid to
generate hydrogen gas, and the yeast catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to generate
oxygen gas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gas collection bulbs were filled with different proportions of each gas, proportional to the
number of moles of gas present, and were tested for relative loudness, which represented power
/ explosive energy via a pop test in which a match was struck near the bulb. The loudness was
measured via a scale in which the most explosive mixture was given a ten and the least explosive
given a zero. The ratios were tested for their ability to launch the bulb a distance during a rocket
launch in which the bulb rocket was placed on a launch pad and ignited by a piezo sparker. Both
dependent variables, distance and loudness represented overall explosion energy and were used
to indicate which of the ratios represented the optimum ratio of hydrogen and oxygen to give
water in a combustion reaction. To be considered valid, the amount of error in each data point
must have fallen into the range of average deviation of the measurements. Data was error prone for
relative loudness was measured based on blind perception of a

Analysis Of The Poem The Judgement Of Paris And Greek...
Helen s Judgement of Paris and Greek Marriage Ritual in Sappho 16, an article written by Eric
Dodson Robinson from Johns Hopkins University, explores how Homer s writings and Greek
marriage rituals feed into the meaning of Sappho s sixteenth fragment. Primarily through exploring
the parallel roles of the characters in Sapphos fragment and Homeric tales, Dodson Robinson
begins to decipher what is beautiful in Sappho s eyes. Exploring the subjective role of Helen in the
poem, the author reveals how abducting Helen could be a possible reference to archaic Greek
marriage ritual. Ultimately, it concludes that the relationship between traditional judgment roles
and desire are far more complex than it seems. Written By Ilja Leonard... Show more content on

The syntax of these particular lines adds to the anticipation of the audience. The naval and military
imagery creates an expectation of a subject that reflects these first lines, not beauty and love. In fact,
the first few lines make the reader expect the opposite of what the poem is going to suggest. This
surprise becomes important for a piece that is orally performed because it generates attention,
which creates an appeal to the ear and perception of linear succession (Pfeiffjer 3). Sappho,
cutting against the harsh beauty of the military, reveals that it is what one most loves that is the
most beautiful. This exclamation of love makes the reader expect an immediate explanation of
who or what Sappho places this love in, but it is not revealed until later in the poem. Surprise
combines with suspense and from the moment Sappho begins, the audience expects her object of
love to be revealed (Pfeiffjer 3). There is, however, a difference between the two translations. In
Mary Barnard s translation, the course of the priamel is broken into two different stanzas, putting
more emphasis on the establishment of the militaristic expectation the reader suspects. Yet, in Anne
Carson s translation of the poem the lines about the military are in groups, followed by the line
what you love set alone, drawing attention to the different tone being established (Carson 4). Where
Carson succeeds in emphasizing Sappho s point, Barnard fails. Yet, where

As a developing civilian pilot and a future naval officer, naval air power is the most significant
aspect of the Navy. Since naval air power developed after numerous ship to ship altercations, it is
believed that the ideas of naval air power developed from the theories of Alfred T. Mahan.
According to Professor Rubel, the Dean of Naval Warfare Studies at the Naval Warfare College,
Naval aviation has established and developed no separate theoretical basis for either its own
justification or employment (Rubel 64). Alfred T. Mahan strategies ranged from having complete
and utter control of all movements across the sea, to having a large Navy that is capable of
controlling and using force to either preserve our territories or deter enemies at all costs. Naval
air power piggy backed off of Alfred T. Mahan s theories and strategies, and eventually composed
three naval air power operations that seize, maintain, and exercise command of the sea/air (Rubel
64). Whether these operations are through long distance missile attacks, bombardments, or even
land based amphibious attacks with the Marine Corps, NAVAIR has developed technology that

Chinese Empire Building In The Qing Dynasty
Starting in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the Qing dynasty had built an immense
territory that greatly proceeded that any other empire of its time. The Chinese empire incorporated
many non Chinese people and continued to expand its empire. When the Qing dynasty conquered
China, they wanted to keep their ethnic distinctiveness so they forbade intermarriage between the
Chinese and themselves. The ruling elites of the Qing dynastymastered the Chinese language and
used the bureaucratic system of government to rule the empire. Three major features of Chinese
empire building in the early modern era were bringing non Chinese into the territory, security
concerns, and cultural respect among neighboring peoples. These three distinctive features helped
shape Chinas empire to what it is today.
Chinese empire building vastly enlarged the territorial size of China and brought a number of non
Chinese people into the region (Strayer, 640). This influx of different people allowed China to
grow as a nation and introduced China to many different cultures. New people meant new

West 10th, like many other student run magazines strives to find a greater following both on the
NYU campus and amongst the poetry world. A combination of witty, sharp and relatable poetry,
art and prose is published. This magazine, published yearly has grown in quality and quantity
over the years but has stuck to its general themes of rebirth, newness, love and acceptance. For
instance in the 3rd issue (2009 2010) the poet Katie Blakely in her poem Dissection, depicts a
love story in which the narrator is speaking to her lover and telling him what exactly she loves
about him. She says I really do love the little things in life, like your voice.. (West 10th, 3 57).
Also in the most recent issue this theme of love is consistent. In the poem Avant le deluge by
Shinji Moon, the narrator paints a picture of lovers experiencing a storm and states that They
kissed for the last time, grinning when he opened his mouth to say I love you , he swallowed an
entire sea (West 10th, 6 52). Besides this in the poem Maritime by Amanda Birkner, a love
experience is portrayed by narrating that your mouth is ripe on mine.. your pioneer hands take the
shape of my hips (West 10th , 6 15). This poem, in itself is daring and the language used might be
considered profane and indecent but I think

Early Childhood Field Teachers Do Not Use The Traditional...
In the early childhood field teachers do not use the traditional A to F grading system to provide a
valid measure of where the students are at. When meeting with parent about the progress of their
student educational progress, teachers provide work samples from a portfolio. Within the portfolio
there are pictures of the student completing projects and participating in classroom activities,
weekly writing samples, several self portraits drawn throughout the year, formal assessments done
on mathematical concepts and letter knowledge, dictated stories with drawings and cutting
samples. Parents also have access to teacher observations. During the conference the teacher and
parent discusses where the child is developmentally, emotionally, cognitively and physically in
relation to their educational progress based upon the material in the portfolio and teacher
observations.
In the elementary school system letter grades from A to F are what parents and teachers use to
determine where students are at academically. The issue with this grading system, according to
Michael Thomsen, from a 2002 study done by the University of Michigan, found that eighty percent
of students base their self worth on their letter grade. This lack of self worth is linked to poor
health, involvement in criminal behavior, and when entering in the work field they earn a lower
wage (Thomsen, 2013). Student who have low self worth, bad grades, who earn a lower wage
feeding into the cycle of poverty (Thomsen,

  • 2. Why Is Karl Marx Called The Proletariat The Harvest shows the life of what Karl Marx termed the proletariat . Proletariat is Marx s term for the exploited class, the mass of workers who do not own the means of production. These people have been put in poor work conditions and work for the class, as Marx puts it, called the Bourgeoisie. These are the capitalists who own the means of production. The capitalists watch over the companies, and make and change policy. The proletariats have to work poor means to keep these companies going. The one girl from The Harvest, Zulema, says that in 1 week she makes 64 dollars. This is sad, but none the less she is part of this lower class and must abide by these means. The main problem that this presents is what Marx is known for, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this group of social anxiety disorder, Glossophobia, Paruresis, and the fear of eating in front of others, are subdivided into three types of phobia with various symptoms and treatments. Phobias can be described as an extreme, irrational fear of specific objects, situations or activities. Social phobia or social anxiety disorder (SAD) is the most common anxiety disorder, it is a disorder characterized by a fear of humiliation in certain performances or interactional situations. Studies have shown that this disorder is co occurring with depression, other anxiety disorder, personality disorder, or social impediment. Individuals who have social phobia would often avoid situations where scrutiny may occur or they may come across intense anxiety. According to epidemiological studies, the rates of having social phobia or social anxiety disorder (SAD) range from 3% to 16% of the general population. For some, social phobias have an early beginning between the ages of 11 19, after the age of 25 it s rather uncommon. Individuals with social anxiety disorder are more likely to be females; however in scientific trials social anxiety disorder appears to be more equally among men and women. • 4. Mexican-American LГЎzaro Cardenas Mexican Populism The Early Years/ The Birth of Populism LГЎzaro CГЎrdenas del RГo (May 21, 1895 October 19, 1970) was President of Mexico from 1934 to 1940. From CГЎrdenas plebian roots, in the lower middle class he eked out a substantial, moving and largely successful leadership role in a reformative Mexico. Born in the village of Jiquilpan, MichoacГЎn, CГЎrdenas supported his widowed mother and seven younger siblings from the age of sixteen. His many professional pursuits included a tax collector, a printer s devil (apprentice to a printer) and a jail keeper, all by the age of eighteen. CГЎrdenas had very little formal education, leaving school at eleven to help support his family he often sought opportunities to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the first things that CГЎrdenas did after his successful campaign was to cut his own presidential salary in half, and this was only the beginning. After he had successfully developed his presidential role he turned against Calles completely and had him and many of his cronies deported to the US, at great popular support of many in the Mexican population who had been victim and seen the destruction that this long held post revolutionary cronyism had upon their once hopeful nation. (Knight 1990) CГЎrdenas also eradicated capital punishment, becoming one of the first nations in the world to do so and certainly one of the first in North and South America. CГЎrdenas successful presidency, elimination of much of the political cronyism as well as social policy changes also created a reasonable end to the revolutionary skirmishes that were still taking place more than 20 years after the beginning of the Mexican revolution in 1910. His partnership with the dominant political party, PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional) helped end a substantial amount of violence and social confusion, almost absent of revolutionary bloodshed. (Bantjes 1996, 62 64, 69, 96, 192) CГЎrdenas, also had an almost mythical position as a favorite of the people, as he traversed the nation without the traditional armed guard, and armored cars, further ... • 5. Trans-pacific partnership The Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement and the U.S. economy Executive Summary The Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement is a free trade agreement initiated in 2005 and was joined by the U.S. in 2008 which proposes to liberalize trade in the Asia Pacific region. There is much concern over the Intellectual Property proposals put forth by the U.S. These proposals threaten to dial back public health safeguards set forth in the 2007 New Trade Deal of the Bush administration, increase prices of consumer goods, and restrict access to information on the internet. There are 12 countries involved in negotiations, with China as an observer and considering entry. Overall, these countries make up about 40% of the world GDP and offer access to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... foreign policy in regards to China. China has an interest in observing the TPP negotiations because not only are they struggling to keep the value of the yuan low in order to continue to attract FDI, but the continued liberalization of its neighbors borders is making other players in the region increasingly competitive in regards to attracting foreign business. A growing number of countries in the area joining the trade agreement, dropping trade barriers and providing cheap labor without the bad reputation for product quality fade and infringement of IP rights will provide plenty of alternatives for foreign businesses looking to invest in the region. It is true that China is attempting to move its economy away from being a manufacturing powerhouse and into the next stage of development, but the threat of a massive outflow of foreign business, and the capital it provides, cannot be overlooked. Thus, if China joins the TPP so as not to be left behind, then it will have agreed to adopt the foreign trade policies set forth by the trade agreement. This means that strict intellectual property rights will help to ease the concerns many have about China s continued infringements of property rights and general theft of R D and intellectual property. Although being bound to an international agreement and actually enforcing (let alone practicing) the aspects of the contract are quite different matters, the added scrutiny China would be subject ... • 6. Ethical Concerns Of Stem Cell Research Essay Steven Weinberg, a famous theoretical physicist, once said, It does not help that some politicians and journalists assume the public is interested only in those aspects of science that promise immediate practical applications to technology or medicine (Doc, 2016, p. 1). Though this refers to many, if not all, fields of science when there are new technological advances, there is one in particular that falls under this assumption. There are two basic fields within stem cellresearch and the one under the most scrutiny is embryonic stem cellresearch. To be able to use their stem cells without killing them has not been developed yet, so many articles on ethical concerns of stem cell research are focused on this specific topic. Many areas of science are treated as unethical, but stem cell research, which is considered the worst, could single handedly reshape the world as we know it. Description of Stem Cells Unlike the other cells that make up living organisms, stem cells are very different from the others by two distinguishing characteristics. First, they can be used to become tissue or other specific cells, mainly organs, with special functions. Second, they are generalized cells capable of restoring themselves through cell division (NIH, 2015). In some organs, including bone marrow, stem cells regularly divide to repair and replace worn out or damaged tissues. In other organs, however, such as the pancreas and the heart, stem cells only divide under special conditions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s Lord Of The Flies Writing has always been the primary vehicle for social commentary and reform. From Upton Sinclair s damning exposure of the meat processing industry in The Jungle, to George Orwell s grave warning concerning communism in Animal Farm, to William Goulding s disturbing look at human nature post World War 2 in Lord of the Flies, countless authors have attempted to expose flaws in their society through writing. Rome, as a growing republic, and later as a sprawling empire, was consistently rife with corruption, abuse of power, and the degradation of morals. Writers like Sallust, Juvenal, and Tacitussaw these social flaws as opportunities, whether to drive social or political change, or to increase their influence, or just to make a statement to the government and the Roman people. However, these three writers each took a different approach to his commentary. Through comedic hyperbole and satire, Juvenal looked to expose the moral degradation of Roman women in Satire VI. On the other hand, Sallust focused on political corruption in the late Roman Republic, using the history of the Jugurthine War as a lens by which to observe the corruption he despised. With yet another approach, Tacitus aimed to criticize despots like Emperor Domitian and to denounce imperialism through the biography of Agricola, the Roman general who conquered Britain. The divorce decree specifies that in the event of a court ordered increase in child support, the alimony payment amount will decrease by the amount of the child support increase. That is, Tatsuo s total monthly payment cannot exceed $2,800. Issues: How much of each payment is considered alimony? Such events that are included are: the child s attaining a specified age or income level, dying, marrying, leaving school, leaving the spouse s household, or gaining employment. Whether such event is certain or likely to occur is not considered in determining the contingency. A similar case to Maria s is presented in the court case, Heller v. Commissioner, T.C. Memo 1994 423 (1994). Heller (the petitioner) received certain payments from her former husband, some of which were designated as spousal support and the remaining were designated as child support. Heller received $1,700 per month as spousal support, none of which was reported on her tax return. The divorce instrument stated that future spousal support would be reduced by any court mandated increase in child support. The Court cited Sec. 71 (c) (2) of the Internal Revenue Code and said that the provision which allows spousal support to be decreased by future court mandated increases in child support is not considered a contingency related to a child. The Court then ruled that the payments received by the petitioner for spousal support should have been included in her tax return and constitutes taxable alimony. Maria s situation is similar to the Heller case. The increase in child support from a court order is not considered a contingency related to a child and does not decrease alimony. • 11. Haroun And The Sea Of Stories Short Story Michael A. Rodriguez Ms. Ramirez British Literature 1600 30 November 2017 Haroun and the Sea of Stories: Magic Meets Real World Haroun and the Sea of Stories is a children s novel, written by Salman Rushdie, who is one of the prominent authors of magical realism in English literature. The novel brings together real world elements and features of magic or the supernatural. Using elements of literature such as made up words and rhyming throughout Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Rushdie showcases why he is a distinguished author of magical realism. (Warnes) The novel begins by introducing the city in which the main character lives. Rushdie calls it the sad city because the citizens are so depressed, they have forgotten the city s actual name. Haroun and his parents are the only people not depressed. Rashid, Haroun s father, is a famous story teller. The depressed citizens solely care about facts and see no purpose in these made up stories. Haroun s upstairs neighbor, Mr. Sengupta, is always complaining to Haroun s mother about these stories and eventually runs off with her. This leads to the main conflict of the story, Rashid becoming so sad he forgets how to tell his stories. (Rushdie, 12 26) Rashid needs to perform stories for multiple politicos, but draws a blank. In this play, Valdez embodies Chicano culture and social injustice. Upon reading the play, it is very apparent that the main source of injustice is institutional racism and it is shown in the court scenes of this play. It starts with the Opening of the Trial (Act I,Scene 9) and in this it proves that the court itself has already set up Henry and the gang for failure. They failed to show any human decency in which they did not allow the boys to wear clean clothes or even fix their hair. Its starts with the press. The press was an important symbol of racism in which they would report and paint their own image of pachucos in order to criminalize them to the public. In this case, Valdez cleverly uses the press character as the prosecutor as well. In this scene, the press is setting up Della to self incriminating questions by connecting the boys to weapons that were never found at the crime scene and trying to coerce her answers into sounding like confessions. Of course the judge was no help because he was against the pachucos from the start, in fact in this scene it reveals that even their lawyer knew that they were going to lose. Are the Targets Truly Measurable? The targets (1 7) of Goal 14 are designed to provide ways to monitor the progress of this goal. Generally, these targets do this, however, they do not provide specifics for the ways in which they should be measured. All Quiet On The Western Front And Night Long Essay #1 In the two books we read in class, All Quiet on the Western Front and Night we see that the two world wars of the twentieth century produced unprecedented destruction to human life. We see this because in Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, he says that after witnessing bodies getting blown up, people getting shot, things burning down and loud noises every day, he was forced to realize that he no longer belonged to the society that he came from. He realized that he now belonged to the world of war and that even if he tried to go back to his home, there would be nothing left for him to go back to. Throughout the books he makes references that his family becomes the people he was fighting with, even the people he was fighting against because they were the only ones who understood what he was going through (Remarque, 1929). He and his family no longer kept in contact and so he was basically in the world alone with no practically no loved one to lean on. The same goes for the Ellie Wiesel s Night. Ellie gets taken away from his family and forcibly put into a concentration camp in which he never knew existed. The camp life was harsh and brutal. He saw sons killing their fathers for food and people dying every day simply for the lack of water. He was forced to do hard work and take long journey s in which had the intention of killing him and his counter parts because they were Jewish. In recent years, due to the threat it poses to human security, human trafficking has been identified as one of the major and fast growing transnational problems. It is also perceived as a form of modern slavery and one of the greatest human rights challenges of our times. Therefore, tackling human trafficking is highly prioritized in many countries (European Commission, 2009). In this statement, Niebuhr exclaims that the consequences of a situation are undeniably much worse than the motivation of one s instigation of their actions. This applies to the intentions and, more importantly, the consequences of the characters in both the play Julius Caesarby William Shakespeare and film Wall Street: Money Never Sleepsdirected by Oliver Stone. Even though some people have honorable intentions and mean no harm, the consequences can still be disastrous. In much the same way, those with fraudulent intentions also suffer in the end. Situations like these can be accurately viewed through both the play and the film. The characters Brutus and Jacob Moore have no other reason but to act in a worthy way. While Cassius and Gordon Gekko have deceptive intentions, consequences incur similar to Brutus and Jacob Moore. The intentions may seem like the most important consideration in a decision, but, in reality, the penalties can be the same no matter what the motives are. The better a country is at producing its specialized commodities, the more revenue it will raise from its exports and the more it will be able to procure imports. This trade theory has given birth to a new direction for economic policy, namely the export led growth [ELG] hypothesis (Zuniga, 2000). Parents of this particular parenting style believe children will learn best on their own and would prefer to be their child s friend, buddy, and confidant than a parent. Though parents do not set rigid rules like authoritarian parents, they are generally loving, supportive, nurturing, warm, and accepting. The main concern is to let their child express their creativity, individuality, and happiness (Sarac 2). Some families struggle financially and become disengaged from children by the sheer economics of survival working multiple jobs (Vivo 2). • 38. The Physics of a Golf Ball Essay The Physics of a Golf Ball The first written reference of golf was in 1457. Golf balls have had extraordinary changes since that time; they ve gone from leather pouches to dried gum to today s dimpled balls. These dimples help decrease the drag and increase the lift. Different forces are applied to the golf ball when struck by the club. Golf clubs have grooves to create backspin. And then there are different variables that affect how a golf ball will travel, these include: lie angle and the shaft length. A golfer must never forget about the wind factor . And last but not least , a golfer must flat out use his own judgment in the game of golf. The game of golf has a science all of it s own, and even the best players have ... These guttie balls had two negatives; they sometimes broke into pieces as some modern solid balls have been known to do and they did not fly as well as the feather balls. None the less, as these balls were used their surfaces became roughened. Players soon realized, however, that cut up balls flew further and the concept of dimples was born. But why are dimples purposely molded into the modern day golf ball? This question deals with the way that air affects the flight of a spinning object (or aerodynamics if you will) and that s the bottom line. Moreover, two simple principles will be discussed in great detail hereafter: lift and drag. Let s not run faster than we are able though. Before we get on a rampage let s look at what experience has taught us about a spinning ball. A British scientist in 1887, Professor P.G. Tait owns all the credit to the findings concerning the importance of spin on the flight of a golf ball. He relates that in his youth he was taught that all spin is detrimental and he practiced assiduously to master the art of hitting a ball almost free of spin. The fall of the Romanov Dynasty in 1914 proved that the Tsar could not handle the problems of Russia. Ironically, he would have been ideal as a constitutional monarch, but was adamant against the idea. As the First World War started Russias problems arises, from short term and long term causes. The war brought back inflation which led to demonstrations over food shortages combined with workers grievances, (Hosking, 2012, p. 91) thus this destroyed Nicholas s image as Father of Russia. The title of lord is inherited or assigned as a positional power granted by landowners. The Chief is chosen by the people to make the right decisions for their advantage. It is an earned position of trust. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadershipis to have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force granted to them by rank and expect subordinates to follow blindly. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role model for others to admire. Comparision Of Microscale Masses Of Hydrogen And Oxygen Abstract In this experiment, microscale quantities of hydrogen and oxygen were generated to test their explosive nature both separately and in mixtures of various proportions in order to identify the mixture with the most explosive energy, via a pop test that measured relative loudness, thus determining the optimal ratio for their combustion reaction to give water, and determine a mole ratio for the reaction in a balanced equation. Each gas mixture was then tested for power as fuel through the launching of a micro mole rocket. The syntax of these particular lines adds to the anticipation of the audience. The naval and military imagery creates an expectation of a subject that reflects these first lines, not beauty and love. In fact, the first few lines make the reader expect the opposite of what the poem is going to suggest. This surprise becomes important for a piece that is orally performed because it generates attention, which creates an appeal to the ear and perception of linear succession (Pfeiffjer 3). Sappho, cutting against the harsh beauty of the military, reveals that it is what one most loves that is the most beautiful. This exclamation of love makes the reader expect an immediate explanation of who or what Sappho places this love in, but it is not revealed until later in the poem. Surprise combines with suspense and from the moment Sappho begins, the audience expects her object of love to be revealed (Pfeiffjer 3). There is, however, a difference between the two translations. In Mary Barnard s translation, the course of the priamel is broken into two different stanzas, putting more emphasis on the establishment of the militaristic expectation the reader suspects. Student who have low self worth, bad grades, who earn a lower wage feeding into the cycle of poverty (Thomsen, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
