Similarities Between Invictus And 42
The two movies Invictus and 42, had similar themes to them, just different upbringings. In the movie
Invictus centers around the idea of Nelson Mandela s first year term of being the president of South
Africa. He was elected after the fall of apartheid, which he helping bring an end to and faced a racial
divide between people of South Africa. Mandela then used the sport of rugby to unite everyone. He
convinces Francois Pienaar, captain of the national rugby team, that he can win the World Cup if they
believe. Pienaar took it personal and trained his guys like never before. South Africans came together
from the win of the 1995 World Cup Championship. In the movie 42, Branch Rickey, also known as
Mr. Rickey, signed Jackie Robison to play for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nelson Mandela was adopted after his father died to a high rank family that taught leadership roles
within the tribe. His commitment to politics grew stronger when racial classification and segregation
were introduced. Mandela spent twenty seven years in jail because he was conspiring to overthrow the
state and sentenced to life in prison in the Rivonia Trial. President Klerk was elected and lifted the ban
and released Mandela from prison. He fought against the apartheid state, leading different campaigns
against it. Mandela fought with his words, however Jackie Robison fought with his actions. Mandela
lived in a place where there was primarily a lot of black people there, where as Jackie lived in a place
where there was mostly whites. Jackie Robison broke the baseball s color barrier by being the first
black person to play in Major League Baseball. Robison changed the way Americans of all races
thought. He criticized the slow pace of baseball integration and objected to the Jim Crow practices in
the Southern states where most clubs held spring training. Robinson led other ballplayers in urging
baseball to use its economic power to desegregate Southern towns, hotels and

Factors Affecting the Academic Performance of the Third...
CHAPTER I
Introduction The extent of student s learning in academics may be determined by the grades a student
earns for a period of learning has been done. It is believed that a grade is a primary indicator of such
learning. If a learner earns high grades it is concluded that they may also have learned a lot while low
grades indicate lesser learning. However, many experiences and studies found out that there are also
several factors that would account for the grades. No single factor can be definitely pointed out as
predicting grades. It has been an interplay of so many factors gender, daily allowance, social status,
time and interest. In fact, almost all of existing environmental and personal factors are a variable of

Computer Operating And Networking Systems
Identify the computer operating and networking systems used in the company
We are using windows 7 and 8 on all PC for our company, 2003 network servers. It comes a time for
change and IPv6 is it, so we have to be prepared for it. Our company has about 100 personnel who
needs network access. If we are in need more IP s or the company grows, we might be in trouble. We
need to quickly change to the latest version, from IPv4 to IPv6 in order to keep the network and
company in a place for future growth. IPv6 has been around since about 1995, and some companies
have been testing it, it is installed on the unit, and enabled by default, but most people have not
activated it. Windows 7 and 8 and servers 2003 all are ready for upgrade to the IPv6 network setting.
As we know IPv4 only give you 4 billion some user and are completed, the new version IPv6 has an
unlimited number of addresses to use, with hope of not running out.
The pros and cons of IPv6 over the use of IPv4 IPv6 are better security, since the security for IPSEC is
built into IPv6 upgrade; more available IP address, since we are switching from a 32 bit system to a
128 bit protocol; IP address can be close to an unlimited number and should not run out, but as with
IPv4, it could happen; better and faster service for video screaming, games, and video conferencing
since the UDP will work much better for screaming of video quality of services; and an auto
configuration of all router on the system and it has a larger

Frankenstein And Frankenstein Essay
Several fields have studied the relationship between creator and creation. The most significant aspect
of this research considers the difference between nature and nurture. Sociologists, psychologists,
scientists, and other professionals have tried to pin down the exact distinctions between these two
types of upbringings. In literature, the same questions have been asked and studied using fictional
characters, most famously in John Milton s Paradise Lost, in 1667, and Mary Shelley s Frankenstein,
in 1818. The complexity of the characters in these texts creates the theme of nature versus nurture
before they diverge and arrive at differing conclusions.
Many critics arose over the years to contest the main character of Milton s epic. Shelley, ... Show more

Due to his mistakes in creating his character of God, Shelley personified Victor Frankenstein as a cold
creator to provide a commentary on the harshness of Milton s God.
Some have called Milton s God evil and unloving such as Richard Bentley (Read). This criticism can
be attributed to the fact that Milton was cautious about creating a so called round character of God;
this caution caused this flat creator that has no real stake in creation. When the first words that God
speaks in Paradise Lost mock the fallen angels: Only begotten Son, seest thou what rage/ Transports
our adversary (Milton III . 80 ) it only confirms the fate that this character cannot be the hero of the
story. By doing this Milton created this malicious creator which inspired the cruelty that can clearly be
seen in Victor Frankenstein in terms of both his family and his creation. The use of cruelty in creators,
whether intentional or not determines the environment in which their creation lives.
Shelley draws inspiration from Milton s Paradise Lost not only for the vicious creator in the stories but
also the creations. In Milton s epic, God creates the father of humankind and the father of all demons.
The characterization of Frankenstein s monster highlights points of both Adam and Satan; even the
monster recognizes this within Shelley s work when he encounters Milton s

Choosing A Training Intervention Program
Choosing an Intervention
Projects requiring a training intervention usually have to do with a performance. I used as a reference
a similar intervention from Kentucky Virtual Schools hybrid program since I would like to analyze
step by steps the procedures to obtain the expected outcomes. Training intervention is the method I
choose because it complies with the procedures I want to present at SUAGM (Sistema Universitario
Ana G. Méndez) to integrate technology in a bilingual setting with hybrid courses. Developing a
training intervention project involves assessing the need, designing materials, developing training
presentations and exercises, implementing the program and evaluating the success of the program.

Professional development
According to the intervention training in the study, change started with professional development; it
was guided by instruction specialists and used an online professional development program for
algebra I teachers, as well as other resources. The program was intended to improve both the algebra I
content knowledge and research based instructional practices. It begun with orientation and instruction
in a hybrid format before moving to a distance format. The teachers received online training sessions
with the purpose to share their successes and challenges to improve their understanding, and ability to
implement recommended instruction practices.
In my project, the professional development will include offering training to both instructors and
bilingual adult students. I can talk with property about the sessions since I have been helping as
instructional curriculum designer; participating of the evaluation and selection of the instructors, and
offering courses online and in traditional setting to level staff, teachers, and students. For instance,
some of the offered courses to the instructors are introduction to Blackboard 9.1; searching,
evaluation, and selecting internet resources; collaboration online with Microsoft Office live
workspace; instructional design, and Web 2.0 tools.

John Updike s A P Essay
John Updike s A P At first read, John Updike s A P contrasts old and new; the old manager in his
settled life conflicting with the new age of girls wearing bathing suits in buildings. All the while, the
narrator stuck in the middle, finally deciding to join the side of new, or youth. Instead of old vs. new,
an observation closer to the heart of the story is conflict between the worlds of the rich and the middle
class. ?A P? is the setting for one man to decide in which way he will seek to follow his life, standing
on his own two feet and treating everyone as equals, or bowing before the wealthy, and searching for
his own riches above all else. In walk three girls into a grocery store in bathing suits. They?re far

The money in their families allowed them to come to this place on vacation and while here, the girls
relied on the power that comes with their wealth and felt the need to assert themselves as different to
everyone else. Sure the guys in the store gawked at the girls for their beauty and lack of clothing, but
it was their willingness to walk in the store that way that got Sam?s full attention. There are probably
beautiful girls who live in the town who Sam would find very attractive in a bathing suit, but they
would never walk into their local A P dressed that way, so it was these girls? audacity in walking like
this that gave them his attention. Also, it was the girls? wealth that gave them the courage to be so
bold. Not everyone is impressed with the girls however. The manager, Lengel, comes over to the cash
register and immediately begins to tell the girls off for coming into the store dressed as such. When
Lengel says that he wants the girls decently dressed when they come into the store, the head of the
group of girls, Queenie, realizes that Lengel knows why the girls came in. Updike writes, ??We are
decent,? Queenie says suddenly, her lower lip pushing, getting sore now that she remembers her place,
a place from which the crowd that runs the A P must look pretty crummy.? Here Queenie realizes that
not everyone may accept her boldness just because of her class

Essay about The Film Schindler s List versus Novel...
Schindler s List
The film Schindler s List has a tendency to simplify and sentimentalize the character Oskar Schindler
compared to the novel Schindler s Ark in which the film is based on. The film Schindler s List lacks
depth and understanding of the character Oskar Schindler, and tends to over dramatize events within
the film in which Oskar Schindler is responsible for.
The novel Schindler s Ark begins its in depth documentary story with the earlier life of Oskar

teenage years in the newly created state of Czechoslovakia. The novel informs the reader of Oskar

Why I Believe It Should Be Mandatory
Many schools regard art with the idea that it s just a bunch of colors mixed together; although I have
found that art is not this simple a concept. I have problems with memorizing complicated and or
important pieces of information; although when I learn through creating something, (for example,
creating a picture having to do with moles, in order to learn about the chemistry unit moles) I m able
to clearly picture and understand newly introduced concepts. This is why I believe it should be
mandatory to require all students to create art in introduction to a new concept. Doing this would not
only open up people s minds to art s influences, but it would also have a positive effect on the student
s mental process as well. Studies show that arts integration goes beyond including art projects in class;
it is a teaching strategy that seamlessly merges arts standards with core curricula to build connections
and provide engaging context ( Nobori, Mariko; How the arts unlock the door to learning). Many
other people have written about how the brain copes with learning through art, such as Mariko
Norbori, a writer for and or creator of the website Edutopia. Norbori was able to visit Wiley H. Bates
Middle School, in Annapolis, Maryland; and discovered that Every teacher there is committed to
weaving the arts and standard curricula together (Norbori). During her visit, she was shown some of
the activities they were currently involved in, such as in a science classroom you might

Theme Of The Mother And Daughter Relationship In The Joy...
Throughout The Joy Luck Club, one major theme that kept appearing was a mother daughter
relationship. The relationship between every daughter and their mother was different, but all of the joy
luck club members wanted their daughter to succeed. Each mother cared for their daughter
exceptionally so and even portrayed wanting their daughter to have it much better than they ever did.
For example, Lindo Jong and her daughter, Waverly Jong, had an interesting relationship. Lindo
always wanted Waverly to strive in her childhood talent, chess. Waverly slowly built up anger towards
her mother as she would always try recommending strategies to use and ways to attack during
competition as well as treat Waverly as a trophy for her achievements. In ... Show more content on

This points further to the conclusion that she didn t put her children first just as the Joy Luck Club
mothers did. In connection to the caring nature that was emphasized throughout the novel, it is easy to
compare it to my relationship with my mother. Similar to Lindo, my mother is proud of me and shows
that to the people around her. Although Waverly was ashamed of it in the novel, I am grateful that
mother speaks so highly of me. In the novel, June s feelings about wanting to live up to her mothers
expectation were really strong. I feel the same way in wanting to show my mom that I can go above
and beyond what she expects from me. In conclusion, this theme was displayed in every aspect of the
novel and is easy to share experiences with, but can even be shown in the worst ways of a relationship
between a daughter and a mother, just as the article brought to light.

Description Of The Model Of 11 Submodels Essay
The model
The model consisted in 11 submodels, one equation was used to calculate a random population and
simulate the IAA to each individual for all treatment (level of methionine+cysteine). The FI and MCI
are describing according to the performance of the flock population, with the price of amino acid is
calculated the feed cost with the increase of IAA. The model preconized that the optimum IAA is
dependent on the economic variables, therefore the model defines the NR with the variation of the
amino acid prices and sale poultry. The optimum IAA is determined by the relationship between IAA
and NR.
The input of model is: 1 μ of broiler; 2 SD, 3 parameters of the monomolecular model, 4 cost of
standard diet, 5 price of sale poultry, 6 parameters to estimate energy, 7 number of animals that wish
to simulate. The model output is the NR and the optimum amino acid intake.
Statistical approach and mathematical models
The model described simulates the potential performance and hence nutrient requirements at a flock
bird level, for this simulation needed of the µ and σ of the population, this parameter can be acquired
from experiments or literature data. Body weight gain (BWG.R) with random numbers from a
standardized normally distributed population were generated using the following generalized equation
(1):
BWG.R = ((SQRT ( 2×LN(RUNIF( )))×SIN(2×PI( )×RUNIF( ))) × σ + µ, Equation 1.

New Englander s Opposition Of The War Of 1812
New Englander s Opposition to the War of 1812
The War of 1812 was predominantly fought between the United States and the United Kingdom for a
variety of complex reasons but most notably was caused by Britain s inability to treat the newly freed
America as anything but a colonial body. Americans were overall outraged into war by their own
government s sanctioned trade embargoes, the impressments of seamen by the United Kingdom, and
interpersonal negative sentiments that greatly restricted America s trade with European nations
(including the vital trade with Britain) and in effect: America s economy. American leaders at this
point slightly miscalculated the effort by deciding to invade Canada as the only viable way to properly
attack Great Britain; this created an aggressive beginning on America s part in this obscure war. The
Treaty of Ghent ended the conflict in 1815 and said nothing about the major issues that caused the war
and did not conclude in a victory for either side; it called for the return of preceding conditions before
the war and did little to nothing to solve the tensions between these two major nations: the United
States and the United Kingdom. So how did Americans feel about this unclear war? The War of 1812
is America s most unpopular war as it is largely forgotten in our history. The New Englanders
specifically opposed the war, with some Republicans lending a hand in the anti war effort. At this time
New England was politically dominated by the

Is Public Shaming Fair Punishment By Patt Morrison
Journalist, Patt Morrison, in her article, Is Public Shaming Fair Punishment (2014), argues that
creative sentencing is an effective way to punish the people who committed crimes and felonies but
must be careful to keep it safe and not cruel. She supports her claim by first questioning the 8th
Amendment to consider if creative sentencing is against the law and decides it is not because justice is
still fairly served, then by comparing the shame of creative sentencing to prison and it causes a lot
more vivid denunciation, then by highlighting how prison seems more like a retribution rather than
justice by using the example of Hester Prynne who was not affected by prison, and finally by
contradicting her previous statements, she says that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Are The Stereotypes Of Teen Drivers Essay
Teen Drivers over time have become three times more likely to become involved in a fatal vehicular
accident. This statistic often leads to the negative stereotype of teen drivers. However, one must ask
why are teens more likely to be involved vehicular accidents rather than any other age group. It would
seem that they might have quicker reaction times, and even the ability to pay attention to the road and
others around them more. However, these young drivers often attend school for eight hours,
participate in extracurricular activities, and then some teens even work part time even full time jobs.
Therefore, they drive later and later, creating difficulties on top of the lack of experience, for example
exhaustion, and distractions whether the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some suggestions have been to increase the driving age to twenty one and older, however, the lack of
experience would be heightened with a possible increase of driving under the influence since the legal
drinking age is twenty one. Therefore, instead of raising the driving age why doesn t the state, or even
community create a mandatory Driver s Ed class, one for learning about driving and another for
actually driving. This is due to the idea that teens are more likely to see the errors of their classmates
and not want to make the same mistake, or see what to do in certain situations that a teen might not
know about. For example, the majority of teens aren t actually taught about what to do in case one s
car starts hydroplaning, which is crucial for not only the driver but anyone around them on the road
safety. This is due to how the cars wheels have no traction on the ground and if they accelerate, or
brake they could lose control of their car even more so than they already had. Thus, providing a
mandatory class for graduation for students aged sixteen through nineteen will give them the
opportunity to gain experience and knowledge, so that they have a decreased chance of being involved

The Consumption Of Two Goods
consumption of two goods
In economics a consumer is described as a rational individual who wishes to maximise their utility by
making rational choices. These choices appear when a consumer is exposed to two goods, where a
given amount of one good substitutes the use of another one. To calculate how a consumer can achieve
the optimal allocation of the two goods, an indifference curve is used and the analysis of an
indifference curve can be combined with the budget constraint. For the consumer, some combinations
are better than others for maximising utility, and the best combination is the optimal combination.
Consumers have preferences about the goods they consume. Therefore, when faced with a choice of
goods, the consumer must decide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consumers wish to have a higher number of goods than less. If the consumer added another book to
his bundle, he would have to sacrifice some water, in order to hold utility constant. One can calculate
how many glasses of water the consumer is willing to sacrifice for another book without changing his
total utility through the marginal rate of substitution. According to (BEGG et al., Economics, 11th
edition, McGraw Hill Education, 2014 ), the marginal rate of substitution between two goods
measures the quantity of a good the consumer must sacrifice to increase the quantity of the other good
by one unit without changing total utility. For example, if the consumer has 10 books and no water
and he reads 9 of these books, he won t enjoy the last one as much. Furthermore, by drinking no water
the consumer will be very dehydrated and won t enjoy reading at all, and so the utility of this
particular bundle would be extremely low. On the flip side, if the consumer drank a large amount of
water and read few books. As a result, he would be reluctant to sacrifice his books for even more
water. By and large, a consumer s preferences exhibit the diminishing marginal rate of substitution,
which means that when a consumer owns lot of one good, they will give up a comparatively large
amount of it to get another good of which they have little. We use indifference curves to portray our
hypotheses

Million Dollar Band Research Paper
Alabama s Million Dollar Marching owes its success to its directors, various sections, and the

included high paced tempos with quick stepping to elaborate maneuvers. Accuracy and style were the
key points to all his performances. He has won many awards such as being given the title of Honorary
Colonel in the Great State of Alabama by Governor John Patterson in 1959. Butler s most outstanding

Tone Injection Essay
This technique increases the constellation size so that each of the point in the original basic
constellation can be mapped into several equivalent points in the expanded constellation. Since
substituting a point in the basic constellation for a new point in the larger constellation is equivalent to

Various works are available in literature mainly focusing on complexity reduction of optimization
problem. A gradient algorithm is proposed where the gradient of clipping noise mean square error is
calculated and optimization of signal to clipping noise ratio is done in place of peak to average power
ratio and order of complexity is O(N). A truncated IDFT algorithm is proposed where in place of
calculating entire IDFT values, it calculates on maximal IDFT element thus reducing complexity of
optimization process. The basic idea is to divide the group in two halves of N/2 and leave the half with
lesser energy and move in similar way till we reach the maximum energy element, however this
scheme may not always give correct maximal IDFT element, it also costs in lower peak to average
power ratio reduction. For designing the peak cancelling signal clipping noise is analysed and several
iterations of clipping and filtering are used till desired peak cancellation signal is generated.
References also proposed an adaptive scaling algorithm and constant scaling algorithm for tone
reservation. LSA TR method with fast convergence is proposed which is based on least square
approximation and used to find the peak cancelling signal faster than clipping control TR method.
References used genetic algorithm to find the optimal PRC set, it also discussed an adaptive amplitude

I was at my aunt s home with her husband and 2 children. We were just chatting together and later
began watching a movie.
Unilateral: I could still hear things that were close by, but the farther the sound source was, the worse
the quality of the sound. Things sounded a little more muffled and distant, almost like phone quality.
Similar to the concept of a low resolution image versus a high resolution image, I could still tell what
the sound was, however, it was very slightly diluted and fuzzy in comparison to normal hearing,
although I didn t find it particularly bothersome at all.
Bilateral: I couldn t hear whispers or mumbling. If someone was in another room or facing away from
me, I couldn t hear them at all. When we were watching a mystery ... Show more content on

The background music was still very loud with both earplugs in and it overwhelmed the voices of the
employees, my aunt and my cousins. The sound quality decreased dramatically and it almost sounded
as if I were under water. It was very difficult to understand anyone that wasn t close by or facing me. I
had to rely on visual cues to tell if my order was ready or not because I couldn t hear the employee at
all. It was also hard to hear directions for where cups were, I had to rely entirely on lip reading and
visual cues.
Experience #5 Learning Environment (Church)
I attended sacrament meeting and went with my aunt (who is a primary teacher) to primary.
Unilateral: It was very difficult to locate sound sources. My localization was significantly worse
compared to other environments. It was odd to hear myself during singing because I experienced the
occlusion effect from the one plugged ear, which made my voice sound unusually loud and it was hard
to discern the notes in the music. It was a somewhat similar sensation to double vision, but with
hearing since one ear was occluded while the other was normal. Sounds were slightly distorted and
fuzzy, although I could understand everything that was going in the

Southern Black Women
Since the enslavement of blacks, black women have played an integral role in mothering America s
population, both literally and figuratively. During slavery, slave masters often impregnated slaves for
two reasons: to further populate their own plantation or to prepare to sale them to make a profit. About
100 years later, though slavery had ended, a majority of black women found work by working as a
maid, also known as the help, for wealthy white families. As part of their job, black women were often
the sole caretakers of the children. In these jobs, black women in the South served as a cook,
housekeeper, nursemaid, or some combination of the three. By analyzing the role of southern black
women as mothers, two specific things are revealed: black southern mothers are forced to live a
twofold complicated life and they serve as the cornerstone for both white and black southern
households. In recognizing these two things, there is a better understanding of the vital role that black
women play in the American South.
Beginning during slavery, black women have never only mothered just their own children. They were
required to care for the slave masters children, while also mothering entire populations. In the early
1900s, these responsibilities were still present, only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ken Kesey Counterculture
Ken Kesey: The Man at the Vanguard of the Psychedelic Counterculture The infamous Abbie
Hoffman once said, The 60s are gone, dope will never be as cheap, sex never as free, and the rock and

rights movement, anti war became en vogue, and the beatles took over the world. However, literature
was also experiencing one of its greatest heights.
The beat movement was in full swing, however, it was about to crash head on into the hippie

that making notes on files and sharing within a large group easily. Also, the paper based system will
have low requirements on the hardware of the organisation. Besides, one disadvantage of using paper
based system is that the manager has to check records manually, which may cause some unnecessary
errors. Another disadvantage is that the current system does not provide the manager with special
functions to generate statistic efficiently. For the Hardware Considerations: We have decided to design

Analysis Of The Screwtape Letter
When I saw that The Screwtape Letters was assigned for my summer reading, I didn t think much of
it. I have never heard of this book, but from my knowledge regarding Bible Lit, I thought it would be a
religious novel. When I started reading, it wasn t anything I expected. In society, we, since we were
young, were taught that there is an opposite substance to each item. For example, day and night, on
and off, open and closed, and, in this case, good and bad. The words day, on, and open all have a
positive connotation while their opposites are seen as horrible adjectives. While reading The
Screwtape Letters, my thoughts surrounding good and bad evolved into an idea and not a set of words.

but refers to the logic and belief of a religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It changes the way how I look at each side of a situation. In today s society, no one talks about how
good the devil is or how evil God is. Instead, we are taught what is good and bad. The Screwtape
Letters is a take and a look into the evil side. Rather than being praised, God was condemned. He was
the evil to all the good work accomplished by the Devil. The role reversal made me realize that not
only are there two sides to every belief, but there is also no right or wrong answer. Each side has his or
her own belief and each person is entitled to believe in anything. In the eyes of Wormwood and
Screwtape, Christianity is the death of all. The religion kills off many people who should belong to
Hell. Just like God and Heaven, the Devil and Hell are trying to create their own following. They are

Integrated Systemic Family Therapy Essay
Narrative Therapy An Integrated Outcome? Introduction Systemic therapy was based on Minuchin s
Structural Therapy model (1968) followed by Bateson s cybernetic model (1972) The first order
cybernetic model considerd that problems within a family system should be focused on by
strategically solving problems, meeting family goals and help change a person s dysfunctional

Rayona feels the yellow boat as an escape from reality and feels peaceful whenever she s on it. This is
because of Ellen DeMarco. When Rayona sees Ellen for the first time, Rayona admires her because
she assumes that Ellen has a perfect life that Rayona dreams and imagines of having, even when Ellen

symbolizes the life that Rayona is desperate for, but she cannot and most likely will never have. In
Christine s section, she challenged herself to cross a naturally built yellow stone bridge while she was
growing up. Unfortunately, she never was able to cross the bridge by herself and failed every time she
attempted to do so. However, Lee, posing as Christine s sister to Christine, he helps her out crossing

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Qfd
2.3 Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Quality function deployment (QFD) is originally developed
by Dr. Yoji Akao in Japan in 1966. It had been implemented by Dr. S. Mizuno. QFD is a method to
transform requirements of customers to products design. The purpose of QFD is to investigate the
most important elements to develop product that closely meet the needs of customers. According to
Akao (1990), QFD is one of the technique to ensure the design quality while the product is still in the
design stage. There are several benefits for using QFD. One of the benefits of QFD is customer
driven. This help the companies to focus on the voice of the customers. Besides, QFD allows the
companies to analyze the competitors products and services in the market place. Another benefit is
lowering the cost and time for development. There will be required minimum changes in the middle

An Analysis of the U.S. Health Club Industry in 2004 and the Role of Bally Total Fitness
Executive Summary Introduction
The rise of the U.S. health club industry can be traced back to the 1980s and 1990s when the majority
of health clubs emerged. By 2004, this $14 billion industry claimed 41 million members. Although the
health club industry operated in a perfectly competitive market, several prominent key players gained
large market share, including Bally Total Fitness and 24 hour Fitness. This perfect competition
encouraged entry of smaller emerging firms into the industry. In 2004, the health club industry

Before long, Bally boasted presence in over 360 outlets in the U.S. and more than 50 internationally.
Analysis
A number of recognizable key factors are responsible for the rise of the health club phenomenon. The
most notable factor was the growing concern of people s overall health and well being. Awareness
about the impact of obesity related diseases on the quality of life and available health resources was
heightened, especially following a statement issued by the Surgeon General s office, which estimated
the annual mortality resulting from obesity complications to be over a quarter of a million. Further
research at the time showed about 6 in 10 American adults were overweight or obese, with only 4 in
10 adults falling within the healthy people indicator bracket. Between 1964 and 2004, 28 Surgeon
General s reports had been issued, all of which described the epidemiology and health consequences
of unhealthy behaviors.1. This general awareness resulted in about 17% of the U.S. population
becoming more enthusiastically committed to fitness activities, with 63% recognizing the importance
of fitness activities and 25% of whom actually attending health fitness clubs. Also, a recent survey
showed that 37% of exercisers were motivated by the desire to control weight. Consciousness about
body image and the desire to reduce stress and meet new people also had an impact on the health club
phenomenon.

Why Australia Has An Aid Program
WHY AUSTRALIA HAS AN AID PROGRAM
Australia s aid program was developed in 1974 under the Whitlam Government and is known as
AusAid. AusAid was formed in order to provide countries that are worse off than Australia aid, to help
them out and in turn, help out Australia.
Benefits to Australia
Australia s aid program has many benefits to the Australian people and our economy. The aid program
is used to promote Australia s national interests through contributing to economic growth and poverty
reduction. The aid program originally did not have a strong focus on promoting economic growth, but
now Australia does have that strong focus. Through helping people overcome poverty, Australia
increases Australia s national interests by promoting stability and prosperity both in Australia and
overseas.
Issues Faced by Countries Overseas
Australia s Aid Program was established to reduce the issues that countries overseas face. The main
focus of the aid program is to help people overcome poverty. There are many statistics which
Australian s find quite upsetting. Australians are known, by instinct, to be compassionate people, and
believe that everyone should be given a fair go. Australians believe strongly in helping others in
difficulty and distress no matter where they live or who they are. The statistical data that Australians
find shocking are:
1.4 billion people are said to be living on less than US$1.25 a day
27,000 children die every day
Almost 1,000 mothers die every day as a

An Analysis of Leonardo da Vinci and
His Contributions to Western Civilization
Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most famous artists to have ever lived, and his contributions to the
development of western civilization are irrefutable. Born on April 15, 1452, near Florence, Italy, one
would not have guessed that he was destined for a life of greatness. He was the illegitimate child of an
up and coming notary and a peasant girl, and he spent most of his childhood with his doting father (
Da Vinci The Renaissance Man. ). At the age of 15, he became an apprentice in the workshop of
Andrea del Verrochio, where his undeniable talent soon became apparent. He remained an apprentice
until 1477, when he left to explore other opportunities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then drew vertical lines and a single horizontal line, known as the horizon line. The vertical lines
connected at the vanishing point, in the center of the horizon, giving the illusion of distance and depth
to the two dimensional canvas. Despite the relative simplicity of the method, the results were
revolutionary at the time ( Linear Perspective ).
Linear perspective was not the only tool that da Vinci employed to better his art; da Vinci s excellent
understanding of human anatomy allowed for more life like and three dimensional figures in his
paintings. It is believed that da Vinci s interest in human anatomy began during his apprenticeship
under Verrochio (Heydenreich). Leonardo expressed a fascination with the skeletal and muscular
structures of the human form, and eventually researched the internal organs as well. Da Vinci even
received permission by the Republic of Florence to dissect corpses for research purposes. He
performed dissections on men, women, and fetuses, racking up a total of about 30 dissections, only
ceasing his studies when the Pope forbade him from continuing. (Heydenreich).
In addition to dissecting cadavers to research the human form and its mechanics, Leonardo da Vinci
sketched his findings and published some of them. The most famous of these sketches is the Vitruvian
Man, which da Vinci drew to show that the human form is proportional in the context of circles and
squares.

Science Merit And Scientific Merit
Unit 10 DB 1 Concept of Scientific Merit Introduction As future scholars, we tend to hear a lot about
Scientific Merit. But, that same old question might pop in our mines, which is should this learner even
care or worry about scientific merit? We are told that without any scientific merit, that our research
that we have worked so hard on cannot be considered a valid research without it, and if we are at the
end part of our schooling/studies, and hope to receive an approval from the IRB for our research
proposal, that will not happen if it is missing. Therefore, within this paper, we will discuss scientific
merits, explain the dimensions of scientific merit, discuss the aspects of the study that was chosen for
the Scientific Merit, and choose an area of scientific merit that we could have improved. Scientific
merit Scientific merit is considered as a way to examine if our research study represents good science.
Therefore, we will need to make sure that any research we are working on, clearly states the research
questions and its overall objectives. The research should also include the contextual data that will also
have peer reviewed literature to support why the research is needed. We also should make sure that if
human beings are being used as participants, that their privacy and safety will be respected, and if
there is any possibility of harm, no matter how small it is, and the benefit and risks whether indirect or
direct for the partakers in the study needs to be very

The Adventures of Snow Castle
One summer day long ago, a little girl named Julia was playing by an old well near the back garden.
In her arms she carried her favorite doll Annabelle. Annabelle was no ordinary doll, for she had three
faces. One face was smiling, one was frowning, and the other was crying. Annabelle had long auburn
hair and the brightest green eyes. She wore a purple, satin gown and shinny, silver shoes. Julia thought
that Annabelle was too beautiful to have a sad or crying face, so Annabelle always wore the face that
was smiling.
While she skipped and sang merrily around the large stone well, she noticed a swarm of butterflies
with bright blue wings. They were fluttering about and feasting on the nectar of the garden flowers.
Enchanted by their beauty, she decided to sit Annabelle on the edge of the well while she explored the
garden. As she was sitting Annabelle down on the stone surface, the doll fell backwards and into the
well. Julia screamed.
Daddy! Daddy!
Julia s father Charles, who was nearby chopping wood, heard her cry out for help and feared that his

Julia, are you hurt? asked Charles, as he knelt beside his teary eyed daughter. What unfortunate thing

does he simply withstand the news, he grows greatly from it as well. Through this moment, he gaining
deeper insights on the world than Aron, and that he is his own character.
From that experience, he matures in many aspects and his relationship with Adam improves. He
becomes more empathetic and patient, willing to listen to Adam s concerns. Cal also copes with Adam
s constant unfair treatment to him compared to his brother. Adam would talk about subjects with Cal
that he would not have been able to with Aron. He is able to comprehend his burdens, whereas Aron
would have been too fragile. Cal even starts a business to help his father through his debt, his
priorities rearranged. When his father rejects the money, he manages to realize that he had the power
to control himself when Lee says, I told you you could control it if you wanted (544). He becomes
more open to different outcomes than his expectations to situations. Cal also begins to love and
appreciate his family more. Upon discovering his own person more, he becomes more understanding
and open minded. Cal then mentions to Cathy in their talk her missing something? Like as if the others
knew something you didn t (465), which could possible mean her empathy. Along the discussion, he
finds his own capacity for empathy.
By becoming more empathetic, Cal slowly begins to realize how his brother functions. From his heart
to heart talk with Adam, he gains a sense of protection towards Aron, whereas he previously envied
him. He is not a worse person simply because Aron is loved more by his father. He recognizes that he
is his own person whose value is not decided purely on his family. Cal also recognizes that his state of
mind is stronger or better than his brother s. Aron is the epitome of the saying ignorance is bliss . Aron

Sing A Musical Analysis
Is Sing a Classic?
What makes a classic movie, a classic? Some people may say it is the actors or actresses in the movie,
the directors, or the setting. Although all of these components are important in a movie, they do not
make the movie a classic. A classic movie is all about connection the movie makes with its audience.
The more emotion the movie can draw from its viewers, the more the viewers can connect with the
movie. Having a good plot and story is a must to consider a movie to be a classic. A classic movie also
needs to be memorable to the audience. With a classic it is all about the lasting impression on its
viewers (Weeks par. 5). The new 2016 movie, Sing, meets all the requirements to be a classic. Sing is
an animated musical comedy directed by Garth Jennings and Christophe Lourdelet. Sing is rated PG,
and has won the Top Box Office Films from ASCAP Film and won Outstanding Music Supervision
from Hollywood Music In Media Awards in 2016 (Awards par. 1). The movie, Sing, is about a Koala
named Buster Moon who hosts a singing contest to help his failing theater business. Sing is a classic
movie that connects with the viewers, has a good story, and is memorable to the viewers.
What is a Classic?
In order for a movie to be considered a classic, a movie must possess three components. The movies
success is based on the audience, it is the audience that make the movie (Weeks par. 5). Movie critic
for NRP, Bob Mondello, says,
[ What makes a timeless movie timeless? Man,

IPv6 has been around since about 1995, and some companies have been testing it, it is installed on the unit, and enabled by default, but most people have not activated it. Windows 7 and 8 and servers 2003 all are ready for upgrade to the IPv6 network setting. As we know IPv4 only give you 4 billion some user and are completed, the new version IPv6 has an unlimited number of addresses to use, with hope of not running out. The pros and cons of IPv6 over the use of IPv4 IPv6 are better security, since the security for IPSEC is built into IPv6 upgrade; more available IP address, since we are switching from a 32 bit system to a 128 bit protocol; IP address can be close to an unlimited number and should not run out, but as with IPv4, it could happen; better and faster service for video screaming, games, and video conferencing since the UDP will work much better for screaming of video quality of services; and an auto configuration of all router on the system and it has a larger ... • 5. Frankenstein And Frankenstein Essay Several fields have studied the relationship between creator and creation. The most significant aspect of this research considers the difference between nature and nurture. Sociologists, psychologists, scientists, and other professionals have tried to pin down the exact distinctions between these two types of upbringings. In literature, the same questions have been asked and studied using fictional characters, most famously in John Milton s Paradise Lost, in 1667, and Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, in 1818. The complexity of the characters in these texts creates the theme of nature versus nurture before they diverge and arrive at differing conclusions. Many critics arose over the years to contest the main character of Milton s epic. Shelley, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to his mistakes in creating his character of God, Shelley personified Victor Frankenstein as a cold creator to provide a commentary on the harshness of Milton s God. Some have called Milton s God evil and unloving such as Richard Bentley (Read). This criticism can be attributed to the fact that Milton was cautious about creating a so called round character of God; this caution caused this flat creator that has no real stake in creation. When the first words that God speaks in Paradise Lost mock the fallen angels: Only begotten Son, seest thou what rage/ Transports our adversary (Milton III . 80 ) it only confirms the fate that this character cannot be the hero of the story. By doing this Milton created this malicious creator which inspired the cruelty that can clearly be seen in Victor Frankenstein in terms of both his family and his creation. The use of cruelty in creators, whether intentional or not determines the environment in which their creation lives. Shelley draws inspiration from Milton s Paradise Lost not only for the vicious creator in the stories but also the creations. In Milton s epic, God creates the father of humankind and the father of all demons. The characterization of Frankenstein s monster highlights points of both Adam and Satan; even the monster recognizes this within Shelley s work when he encounters Milton s ... John Updike s A P Essay John Updike s A P At first read, John Updike s A P contrasts old and new; the old manager in his settled life conflicting with the new age of girls wearing bathing suits in buildings. All the while, the narrator stuck in the middle, finally deciding to join the side of new, or youth. Instead of old vs. new, an observation closer to the heart of the story is conflict between the worlds of the rich and the middle class. ?A P? is the setting for one man to decide in which way he will seek to follow his life, standing on his own two feet and treating everyone as equals, or bowing before the wealthy, and searching for his own riches above all else. There are probably beautiful girls who live in the town who Sam would find very attractive in a bathing suit, but they would never walk into their local A P dressed that way, so it was these girls? audacity in walking like this that gave them his attention. I have problems with memorizing complicated and or important pieces of information; although when I learn through creating something, (for example, creating a picture having to do with moles, in order to learn about the chemistry unit moles) I m able to clearly picture and understand newly introduced concepts. This is why I believe it should be mandatory to require all students to create art in introduction to a new concept. Doing this would not only open up people s minds to art s influences, but it would also have a positive effect on the student s mental process as well. Studies show that arts integration goes beyond including art projects in class; it is a teaching strategy that seamlessly merges arts standards with core curricula to build connections and provide engaging context ( Nobori, Mariko; How the arts unlock the door to learning). Many other people have written about how the brain copes with learning through art, such as Mariko Norbori, a writer for and or creator of the website Edutopia. Norbori was able to visit Wiley H. New Englander s Opposition Of The War Of 1812 New Englander s Opposition to the War of 1812 The War of 1812 was predominantly fought between the United States and the United Kingdom for a variety of complex reasons but most notably was caused by Britain s inability to treat the newly freed America as anything but a colonial body. Americans were overall outraged into war by their own government s sanctioned trade embargoes, the impressments of seamen by the United Kingdom, and interpersonal negative sentiments that greatly restricted America s trade with European nations (including the vital trade with Britain) and in effect: America s economy. American leaders at this point slightly miscalculated the effort by deciding to invade Canada as the only viable way to properly attack Great Britain; this created an aggressive beginning on America s part in this obscure war. The Treaty of Ghent ended the conflict in 1815 and said nothing about the major issues that caused the war and did not conclude in a victory for either side; it called for the return of preceding conditions before the war and did little to nothing to solve the tensions between these two major nations: the United States and the United Kingdom. So how did Americans feel about this unclear war? The War of 1812 is America s most unpopular war as it is largely forgotten in our history. The New Englanders specifically opposed the war, with some Republicans lending a hand in the anti war effort. At this time New England was politically dominated by the ... This statistic often leads to the negative stereotype of teen drivers. However, one must ask why are teens more likely to be involved vehicular accidents rather than any other age group. It would seem that they might have quicker reaction times, and even the ability to pay attention to the road and others around them more. Some suggestions have been to increase the driving age to twenty one and older, however, the lack of experience would be heightened with a possible increase of driving under the influence since the legal drinking age is twenty one. Therefore, instead of raising the driving age why doesn t the state, or even community create a mandatory Driver s Ed class, one for learning about driving and another for actually driving. This is due to the idea that teens are more likely to see the errors of their classmates and not want to make the same mistake, or see what to do in certain situations that a teen might not know about. For example, the majority of teens aren t actually taught about what to do in case one s car starts hydroplaning, which is crucial for not only the driver but anyone around them on the road safety. This is due to how the cars wheels have no traction on the ground and if they accelerate, or brake they could lose control of their car even more so than they already had. These choices appear when a consumer is exposed to two goods, where a given amount of one good substitutes the use of another one. To calculate how a consumer can achieve the optimal allocation of the two goods, an indifference curve is used and the analysis of an indifference curve can be combined with the budget constraint. For the consumer, some combinations are better than others for maximising utility, and the best combination is the optimal combination. Consumers have preferences about the goods they consume. If the consumer added another book to his bundle, he would have to sacrifice some water, in order to hold utility constant. One can calculate how many glasses of water the consumer is willing to sacrifice for another book without changing his total utility through the marginal rate of substitution. According to (BEGG et al., Economics, 11th edition, McGraw Hill Education, 2014 ), the marginal rate of substitution between two goods measures the quantity of a good the consumer must sacrifice to increase the quantity of the other good by one unit without changing total utility. For example, if the consumer has 10 books and no water and he reads 9 of these books, he won t enjoy the last one as much. Furthermore, by drinking no water the consumer will be very dehydrated and won t enjoy reading at all, and so the utility of this particular bundle would be extremely low. On the flip side, if the consumer drank a large amount of water and read few books. As a result, he would be reluctant to sacrifice his books for even more water. By and large, a consumer s preferences exhibit the diminishing marginal rate of substitution, which means that when a consumer owns lot of one good, they will give up a comparatively large amount of it to get another good of which they have little. I have never heard of this book, but from my knowledge regarding Bible Lit, I thought it would be a religious novel. When I started reading, it wasn t anything I expected. In society, we, since we were young, were taught that there is an opposite substance to each item. For example, day and night, on and off, open and closed, and, in this case, good and bad. The words day, on, and open all have a positive connotation while their opposites are seen as horrible adjectives. While reading The Screwtape Letters, my thoughts surrounding good and bad evolved into an idea and not a set of words. Each side has its own ideals with reasoning behind it. It changes the way how I look at each side of a situation. In today s society, no one talks about how good the devil is or how evil God is. Instead, we are taught what is good and bad. The Screwtape Letters is a take and a look into the evil side. Rather than being praised, God was condemned. He was the evil to all the good work accomplished by the Devil. The role reversal made me realize that not only are there two sides to every belief, but there is also no right or wrong answer. Each side has his or her own belief and each person is entitled to believe in anything. In the eyes of Wormwood and Screwtape, Christianity is the death of all. The religion kills off many people who should belong to Hell. Just like God and Heaven, the Devil and Hell are trying to create their own following. They are trying to be their own personal ... One of the benefits of QFD is customer driven. This help the companies to focus on the voice of the customers. By 2004, this $14 billion industry claimed 41 million members. Although the health club industry operated in a perfectly competitive market, several prominent key players gained large market share, including Bally Total Fitness and 24 hour Fitness. Analysis A number of recognizable key factors are responsible for the rise of the health club phenomenon. The most notable factor was the growing concern of people s overall health and well being. Awareness about the impact of obesity related diseases on the quality of life and available health resources was heightened, especially following a statement issued by the Surgeon General s office, which estimated the annual mortality resulting from obesity complications to be over a quarter of a million. Further research at the time showed about 6 in 10 American adults were overweight or obese, with only 4 in 10 adults falling within the healthy people indicator bracket. Between 1964 and 2004, 28 Surgeon General s reports had been issued, all of which described the epidemiology and health consequences of unhealthy behaviors.1. This general awareness resulted in about 17% of the U.S. population becoming more enthusiastically committed to fitness activities, with 63% recognizing the importance of fitness activities and 25% of whom actually attending health fitness clubs. Also, a recent survey showed that 37% of exercisers were motivated by the desire to control weight. Consciousness about body image and the desire to reduce stress and meet new people also had an impact on the health club phenomenon. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Analysis of Leonardo da Vinci and His Contributions to Western Civilization Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most famous artists to have ever lived, and his contributions to the development of western civilization are irrefutable. Born on April 15, 1452, near Florence, Italy, one would not have guessed that he was destined for a life of greatness. He was the illegitimate child of an up and coming notary and a peasant girl, and he spent most of his childhood with his doting father ( Da Vinci The Renaissance Man. ). At the age of 15, he became an apprentice in the workshop of Andrea del Verrochio, where his undeniable talent soon became apparent. The vertical lines connected at the vanishing point, in the center of the horizon, giving the illusion of distance and depth to the two dimensional canvas. Despite the relative simplicity of the method, the results were revolutionary at the time ( Linear Perspective ). Linear perspective was not the only tool that da Vinci employed to better his art; da Vinci s excellent understanding of human anatomy allowed for more life like and three dimensional figures in his paintings. It is believed that da Vinci s interest in human anatomy began during his apprenticeship under Verrochio (Heydenreich). Leonardo expressed a fascination with the skeletal and muscular structures of the human form, and eventually researched the internal organs as well. Da Vinci even received permission by the Republic of Florence to dissect corpses for research purposes. He performed dissections on men, women, and fetuses, racking up a total of about 30 dissections, only ceasing his studies when the Pope forbade him from continuing. (Heydenreich). In addition to dissecting cadavers to research the human form and its mechanics, Leonardo da Vinci sketched his findings and published some of them. The most famous of these sketches is the Vitruvian Man, which da Vinci drew to show that the human form is proportional in the context of circles and squares. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Science Merit And Scientific Merit Unit 10 DB 1 Concept of Scientific Merit Introduction As future scholars, we tend to hear a lot about Scientific Merit. But, that same old question might pop in our mines, which is should this learner even care or worry about scientific merit? We are told that without any scientific merit, that our research that we have worked so hard on cannot be considered a valid research without it, and if we are at the end part of our schooling/studies, and hope to receive an approval from the IRB for our research proposal, that will not happen if it is missing. Therefore, within this paper, we will discuss scientific merits, explain the dimensions of scientific merit, discuss the aspects of the study that was chosen for the Scientific Merit, and choose an area of scientific merit that we could have improved. Scientific merit Scientific merit is considered as a way to examine if our research study represents good science. Therefore, we will need to make sure that any research we are working on, clearly states the research questions and its overall objectives. The research should also include the contextual data that will also have peer reviewed literature to support why the research is needed. We also should make sure that if human beings are being used as participants, that their privacy and safety will be respected, and if there is any possibility of harm, no matter how small it is, and the benefit and risks whether indirect or direct for the partakers in the study needs to be very ...
