How Did Marcel Duchamp s Use Of Imagery In Pop Art
Pop Art c. 1952 1970
Pop art began to emerge in the early 1950s as a result of a booming, capitalist American economy that
followed the Second World War. A sense of optimism arose nationwide with new job security, healthy
incomes and an absence of military obligations. Post war marriage and baby booms yielded the largest
generation in the nations history . The American dream was born and idealized in the media through
advertising. Research undertaken by sociologists into consumer habits and behavior became a
marketing strategy and corporations adapted their production by tapping into what was fashionable
and desirable among the masses.
The exponentially growing population gave way to a social group that had never before been
established in its own right, teenagers. Now that families could afford to give their children a
wholesome education, this age group no longer had to spend their days contributing to the family
income at work, which left more time and freedom for leisure activities. As adolescents began to
follow popular music and culture, the concept of popular culture exploded in America. This in turn is
from where the movement of Pop art was derived. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marcel Duchamp s concept of the objet trouvé or ready made as subject matter and material for his
work inspired the use of popular imagery in Pop art. The use of trivial imagery in his work brought art
into the every day world and made the every day world into art. In his book Pop Art, Tilman
Osterwold declares Dada combined advertising, images and texts, slogans, revolutionary films,
assemblages, theatre and performances in its art. It was this idea of reality dubbed as art that later
inspired Andy Warhol in his Campbell s Soup

Horse Slaughter Is The Act Of Slaughtering Horses
For the past five thousand years the horse has been of greater human interest for its strength than as a
food source. However, American horses are still shipped over our borders and slaughtered for human
consumption overseas. Horse slaughter and the export of horses from the United States should be
banned because it is cruel and inhumane; furthermore, consuming American horse meat can be
detrimental to human health. Horse slaughter is the act of slaughtering horses to obtain their meat for
human (or animal) consumption. Horses are mainly slaughtered for human consumption, however
there are some zoos that feed their animals horse meat. Horse slaughter is exactly what it sounds like,
it is slaughter, these horses are not humanely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The industry is continuing to seek its reestablishment while lawsuits from animal welfare activists
attempt to hinder their attempts. However although horses are not slaughtered or eaten in the United
States, more than 100,000 companion, working and even wild horses are shipped to Mexican and
Canadian slaughterhouses for consumption overseas in Europe and Asia each year (Stepping). Horses
end up at slaughter through a number of ways. The most common being that horse owners bring their
horses to livestock auctions when they can no longer afford them, expecting them to find a good
home. However, that is not always the case, what sellers fail to realize is there are middlemen for
foreign owned slaughterhouses, known as kill buyers , who frequent these auctions looking for horses.
Often kill buyers can be see communicating with the auctioneer in the auction ring. They often outbid
genuine horse owners and rescues, robbing the horses of the opportunity for a second chance at life.
(Transport) Sometimes kill buyers respond to Free horse to good home advertisements. These
advertisements are usually from families who love their horses but can no longer afford them so they
give them away. They sign a paper thinking that their horse is going to a good home but in actuality
they are signing the horse s death warrant. Along with kill buyers

Comparing Story Openings of Bleak House by Charles...
At the opening of the story The Outsider , the writer Albert Camus places time in the wrong order.
This creates the impression that we are seeing into the character s thoughts rather than a story being
told to us. It works very effectively as the paragraphs are spontaneous and not in any form of order,
thus creating a mental picture in our heads of one or two day?s worth of events, as if we were
remembering them ourselves.
This, however, does not apply to Bleak house. Dickens does not use any form of time, but instead
decides to describe what is happening and makes the days, time, week or month irrelevant. It could be
any day, but Dickens does not want time to be the focal point of his story. This is effective because our
interest is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dickens starts the second paragraph with ?fog everywhere?. The bluntness and the repetitiveness work
well together in painting a picture, making an impression in your mind that you won?t forget.
Camus, in ?The Outsider?, makes a conscious decision not to use figurative language in his story, once
again creating the illusion of spontaneous thought. When using everyday language or when thinking
we do not include metaphors, similes or onomatopoeias, for example, ?Today, I should not have
fought Tracy in the office like a tigress who hasn?t eaten in a week, sinking my long, sharp claws and
teeth into her flesh?. Or at least it is uncommon to anyway. Camus is very economical with his
language.
However, Dickens, in ?Bleak House?, uses the opposite, applying figurative and descriptive language
wherever he can, to create the strong mental impressionistic painting in our minds to which the
narrator uses as a backdrop. Dickens also makes very subtle jokes in his opening, for example ??with
flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snow flake ? gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the
death for the sun.? This is ironic as, because of the setting of the story (post Michaelmas) snow flakes
remind of happy Christmas time joy, but instead Dickens personifies them, as if they have feelings
about the surroundings, ?gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.? Dickens

The Social Effects Of The Industrial Revolution
Evaluation of Sources About The Social Effects of The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution mainly refers to the transition from manual production to machinery
production in the period from about 1760 to 1840. It first appeared in the Great British and marks an
important turning point in history as nearly every aspect of the human society was influenced by it in
some way. This essay focuses on the social effects of the Industrial Revolution. As for the sources
used to analyze the question, they are all searched from the Internet including Wikipedia and
professional databases that are credible enough and revised and checked by many people. To
guarantee the credibility of the sources, professional websites and articles that are accepted by people
are chose. First of all, to get a general understanding about the topic, credible websites such as
Wikipedia can be used to search for information about it. Then databases of papers that are much more
credible can be used to find professional research papers about the topic. I mainly focused on the key
words, the Industrial Revolution and social effects, when searching for sources and identified the
following three sources as my materials for the essay. On Wikipedia, there is an article that presents a
general description of the Industrial Revolution and its effects. After a simple definition ... Show more

Ww1 Personal Response
During the Second World War everyone in the United Kingdom had to step up to help the war effort
and defeat Germany. This included the Girl Guides who found themselves having support the home
front in many different ways. The Girl Guides used the many different skills they had obtained at their
meetings and camps to help the country to survive the war. Some of the ways the Girl Guides helped
was by providing the public with services such as health care, and child care as well as food for the
people of London who were suffering from the after effects of the blitz. This project is important
because Girl Guiding now has half a million members worldwide, including me. To us this is part of

Ethics And The Real Estate Field
Ethics is an ongoing issue when any sales position is in question. When people think of sales people,
the first thing that comes to their minds is liar, thief and someone who is trying persuade you do
something for more of their benefit than yours. Ethics is an issue that will never go away, until we find
a solution that will divert this behavior. Majority of sales people especially in the real estate field are
commission only, so its feast or famine. It would be fitting if all sales people were made to take a
budgeting course, before they could apply for their license or make it a requirement within the
licensing. This will help those people realize that the 1099 money they make is not all theirs, that they
need to learn to budget for taxes, office and licensing expenses. Majority of fraud and ethical issues in
the business derives from those who don t know how to budget and need to get paid immediately.
Being a real estate you have duties you have to fulfill not only to yourself, your company but most
importantly to the customers. Being a real estate does mean you automatically make a ton of money,
this is a total misconception of people. Yes, you can make a lot of money, but it takes time and you
have to build your business. What does this have to do with duties to yourself? It means you can t go
in thinking you re going to make all this money and start living beyond your means, in turn this can
cause a person to make something happen or push someone in a way you know

Public Housing Assistance Programs
Ever since the New Deal, the Federal Government has been spending billions of dollars each year to
ensure that everyone has a roof over their head. Out of this effort eventually arose the Department of
Housing and Urban Development, which now administers three main public housing assistance
programs (Edson, 2011). Much literature providing an overview of housing vouchers distinguishes
between the different types of rental assistance, including project units, Section 8 project based
assistance, and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. It is important to distinguish between tenant
based assistance and rental based assistance (HUD.Gov, 2017). In his paper, Olson differentiated

To do so, he utilized data from nineteen nationally representative studies, such as the National Center
for Education Statistics and the Long Term Trend and Main National Assessment of Educational
Progress. Taking into account factors such as age and grade of students, as well as the educational
attainment of the parents, he provides differences in test scores between high and low income
children, concluding that the educational achievement gap has widened in recent years (Reardon,
2011). To demonstrate this gap numerically for the state of Iowa, the DailyHerald has compiled a
working database on the test score differences, depending on the individual grade of the child and
income bracket of the child s family (Broderick, 2014). Additionally, sociologists Geoffrey Wodtke
and David Harding conducted a study to measure the high school graduation rate of high poverty,
versus low poverty children and found that the chances of finishing high school are far lower for
children whose families are in the lowest income bracket than for more economically privileged
children (Wodtke Elwert, 2011). Databases from The College Board reveal that this gap in
achievement also translates into SAT scores, and later acceptance into college. Individual standardized
test scores rise with the income of the student s parents (College Board, 2013). A study conducted by
the University of Pennsylvania went a step further to examine the college graduation

A Child s Understanding of Conservation as Seen by Piaget
The study of conservation task by Piaget typically yields the result that children at a certain age group
exhibit certain understanding of conservation. A child younger than 7 or 8 is incapable of
understanding the basis of conservation (Piaget Inhelder, 1974). Piaget s theory suggests that a child s
understanding of conservation marks a transitional period in their development where cognitive
perceptions change from pre operational to operational (Inhelder Piaget, 1958). Conservation is
defined as the knowledge that appearance may change but quantity and weight or number remain
unchanged in a child s mind despite transformations such as changing the object s shape, sectioning it
into pieces or displacing it into different containers (Siegal, 2003). Piaget himself has found out that
the conservation of certain variables is not achieved together at the same time (Flavell, 1963).
According to Flavell (1963), Piaget s subject s showed that conservation of matter is common at 8 to
10 years of age, weight at 10 to 12 and volume only at 12 years onwards. Piaget s study of
conservation of number yielded similar results when administered to children of age 4 to 7 (Flavell,
1963). In the study conducted (1974), 180 children aged 4 to 6 were experimented upon to gather
knowledge on a child s conservation of properties; matter, weight and volume as Piaget had believed
that a child a pre operational stage would not be able to comprehend conservation and believes that to

A Study On The And Properties Of Aluminium Alloys
CHAPTER 3 LITERATURE REVIEW
3.1 Introduction
The Al Zn Mg series aluminium alloys (7xxx) are the heat treatable alloys and widely applied as large
structural components in navigation and transportation facilities, due to good combination of hardness,
high strength and fracture toughness [1 6]. The use of Sc (scandium) to achieve grain refinement has
recently received great attention. The microstructures and properties of aluminium alloys are strongly
affected by adding small quantities of scandium. Scandium additions in excess of 0.55wt.% (i.e.,
hypereutectic) are very effective in grain refinement, suggesting that the primary ScAl3 phase serves
as an effective grain nucleant [7 9].
The effect of a Sc addition will of course depend on the composition of the alloy. The additions of Sc
in aluminium alloy appear to reduce hot tearing and shrinkage porosity. Hot shortness increase with
increase in Zn but decrease with increase in Mg content [10, 11]. The process of precipitation in the Al
Zn Mg alloy system is quite complex. The aged structure and the kinetics of ageing depend on both
the Zn and Mg concentration and the temperatures of solution and ageing treatments. As the Sc
contents increases within the specified solubility in the solid solution, the grains virtually do not
disintegrate. The maximum solubility of scandium increases from 0.35 to 0.6 wt.% [12, 13]. When the
amount of scandium exceeds the eutectic content and, consequently, there appear primary particles of

Personal Narrative-Horse Training
Around 9am, me and my mom arrived at an amazing equestrian facility around Fenton and Holly.
Horses were like my thing when I was very little and they still are. The second we pulled into the
parking lot I was about ready to burst open, I was so excited for this day to come! This day meant a lot
to me because I learned so many things and that affected my future. When we walked inside the barn
everything was calm and comforting, so we walked down to the lobby and looked at the activities that
everyone (other kids) was doing. During all the looking around and seeing the activities we were
doing I knew that by the time I left that barn I would know like 50% more than I ever did just in one
camp. Alaina are you ready to have some fun? said my trainer, I was in a daze and then my mom said

Emotional Intelligence On The Workplace
Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace When most people think of emotional intelligence (EI), they
are unsure about what exactly that phrase means. Is it someone who is very emotional? Someone who
is very smart? What is it and why is it important in the workplace? Emotional intelligence is a phrase
that encompasses many different traits that a person could have as far as maintaining control in the
workplace and also how to read people and different things they may be feeling. Emotional
intelligence is important for being aware of someone s own emotions as well as trying to calm down
or excite the people around them. A person who is in any leadership position needs to have an
awareness of his/her emotional intelligence as well as how important it can be for day to day
functioning within the work environment. This paper will go into the background and history of
emotional intelligence, talk about how it can be an important leadership tool in the nursing field, and
how I can further improve my leadership skills and growth with emotional intelligence in order to give
the reader a further understanding on the topic.
Background and definition The term emotional intelligence dates back to 1990 when two psychology
professors named John Mayer and Peter Salovey were discussing politics and certain politicians and
one of them said to the other how can someone so smart be so dumb? ; it was from there that they
realized there is more to intelligence than someone s IQ

The, Dinner With Mary Morstan And Watson
Cognitive Psychology is the study of the human mind; it is how we reason, decide, and produce and
comprehend language. In order achieve this we use both mental representations and mental processes.
Like in any other situation, much of these cognitive functions are being used in the Sherlock s Holmes
YouTube video Dinner with Mary Morstan and Watson .
At the beginning of the clip, you can hear the noise of the restaurant. Holmes closes his eyes, then
shortly afterwards Watson calls his name. This redirects his attention to the source of the stimulus,
Watson. We refer to this phenomenon as the Cocktail Party Effect. This effect describes the brain s
ability to block out unimportant stimuli in order to focus upon more important stimuli. They are doing
this in the restaurant with a room filled with people; who are having their own separate conversations
yet they are still able to ignore background conversations and focus on theirs. Furthermore, the
Stoplight Theory indicated that our attention is invoked Like Spotlight that highlights information
within its beam, in this view, spatial attention selectively brings information within a circumscribed
region of space to awareness, and information out that region is more likely to be ignored. (Kosslyn,
2007, p. 130) Indicating that whatever falls within our region is our main focus of attention. In
addition, while Holmes is analyzing Mary, he is able to concentrate on individual bits of detail while
placing his awareness solely

What Is The Impact Of Sports Field Infrastructure
Locally, most people think that sport field infrastructure is only about the underdevelopment of sports
fields in Kona. However, sports fields infrastructure is a much bigger problem than that. Sports fields
infrastructure impacts many people on the west side of the Big Island. For example the community of
south Kona is impacted deeply through sports fields infrastructure. In West Hawaii, the sports fields
quality is awful, which causes Kona to perform at a lower level in team, sport activities. High schools
are also being affected by sports fields infrastructure. For example, when they practice on low quality

It s not fun to drive to hilo every weekend to play quality athletics team sports and even knowing that
we can help to change this problem. Sports fields infrastructure can affect many people even people
who don t play team sports. Sometimes people can play quality games because of the fields condition
on the West Side. there are many ways sports fields infrastructure can affect how teams play. For
example it s a safety issue because there s holes in our fields in kona. Some people know what s going
on but most don t, that s why we have to inform others about this problem. Hopefully the county takes
care of all of this so our community can accelerate in sports. If kona got more sports fields imagine
how good we would be in sports. To me i feel like hilo has an advantage just because of their fields
quality compared to ours. If everyone just put alittle in to help fix this problem then it would be fixed
in the near future. People need to team up to persuade the county into giving Kona more sports fields.
The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and
never score. By Bill

Keeping the kitchen clean is a simple, yet effective way, of preventing several cases of food borne

appliances in cupboards and cabinets. Display only a few decorations on your countertops. Keeping
the extra surfaces to a minimum will provide less breeding ground for bacteria. Attend to large
appliances regularly. Clean out your refrigerator on a regular basis. The easiest time to do this is
before you do your weekly grocery shopping. Discard any food that shows signs of spoilage. Wipe
down the shelves and door using warm, soapy water or cleaning spray. It is safe to use dish detergent

Right To Protest
What comes to mind when you think of a protest? Maybe your mind conjures up images of the

movement of the 1960 s when African Americans took to lunch counters and Mississippi streets?
Perhaps it drifts all the way back to 1773 when Colonist protested 13 years of increasing British
taxation. The ability to protest is an act that has historically has been allowed; or disallowed; by the
people in power at the time. America was founded on the principle that individuals have certain

Federal Regulation of Organic Farming
Is there a federal standard for what organic means when it comes to farm fresh milk?
Ruva (Ruvarashe) Munyariwa
Introduction to political Science, POS1001 Professor Schuman
January 23, 2011
With the organic industry booming and up until recently showing an annual growth rate of 20% it has
been necessary for the federal government to step in and regulate the previously self regulated
industry. Initially, regulation of this industry was implemented by private nonprofit organizations and
some state governments as a way to put an end to consumer fraud and to ensure the integrity of
organic food. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preventive medical care in the form of vaccines, vitamins, minerals and any approved supplements is
strongly relied on to keep the animals as healthy as possible. The process used to bottle and pasteurize
the milk produced from these cows must also be certified and the organic milk has to be kept separate
from nonorganic milk to uphold its integrity as an organic commodity. Other ingredients used in this
process all have to be organic unless there is no organic equivalent. Organic chemicals like volatile
synthetic solvents and other synthetic processing aids are also prohibited during the bottling process
further upholding the integrity of the milk.
Critics of the certification system argue that it s easy to flout the rules either blatantly or by creatively
interpreting the rules and the regulations. An example of this occurred in 2004 when Bayliss ranch, a
food ingredient producer, based in California tried to use the fact that because the tap water that they
were using in their products had been certified organic, they could legally use the label organic on
their products. These critics also argue that the certification process provides a podium by which
special interest groups and lobbyists can press for amendments and exceptions to established rules and
regulations favorable to large scale operators meaning that conventionally produced

Substance Abuse And Addiction
Based on our readings and my understanding some of the cause(s) of substance abuse and addiction
have many factors that can play a key role. For example our text book points out that some people
want to escape their reality, or numb their emotional pain. It can also be social pressure from peers or
our own upbringing (Doweiko 2015). I believe we as a society should look at the individual and not
just the problem. Looking at ones soul and finding the root cause why the person abuses or has
become addicted to a substance or substances is a very important start of the journey of sobriety. We
cannot brush off the fact somewhere the soul lacks something that the substance is fulfilling or once
had fulfilled for that person. We read about Gods love

Characteristics Of A Good Movie
What makes a good film?
Choosing my top ten favorite films was literally the hardest thing I ve ever done. How did I narrow it
down? I thought what movies could I watch for the rest of my life. What makes a good movie? Well,
for one the script has to be good. If the storyline isn t good, but the acting and effects are good; its still
a bad movie. Its like having a slice of pizza that was cooked and dressed perfectly but the pepperoni
and cheese are expired; it doesn t sound to appealing. A good story has seven elements. Number one
being the purpose of the story, whether it be informative, persuasive, etc. Then there has to be a three
dimensional character that changes over time. After a story has established a point and main character
there needs to be a quest, conflict, or task that is out of reach for them to pursue. Now we need an
antagonist that s hell bent on stopping the hero of the story. At this point, the protagonist is changing
for the worst or growing for the better. Finally we come to big conflict scene were the truth comes out;
the big fight scene, or the part that displays the growth of main character. In my opinion, a movie that
displays this well is Enough. The movie Enough is about a waitress, Slim, that marries a wealthy
contractor named Mitch. He seems like the perfect man who gives her everything she wants; a nice
life in the suburbs and a family. Then he starts abusing her and she takes their kid and flees. The race
against time

Game Of Thrones And Tyrell s Of Society
Imagine a real life saga of Game of Thrones and you suddenly find yourself in the midst of the Cerseis
and Margaerys of the world. It s a comical cliché, where privy and entitlement go hand in hand. It s
not that they mean to be insensitive, per se; they re just too busy acquiring the worldly goods they
were promised at birth and oblivious to all else. I confess that building resistance against the Lannister
s and the Tyrell s of society is challenging. Fitting in with a group of people who on any given day, are
carted off on a private jet to their beach house or boast about their expensive cars is exasperating.
They follow each other blindly like unsullied slaves of the rich and famous, each tries to out do and

Perspectives On Psychology And Evaluate Their Key Assumptions
Perspectives in Psychology
This essay will give detailed descriptions of the behaviourist and cognitive perspectives in psychology
and evaluate their key assumptions. The strengths and limitations of each perspective will be
discussed along with an evaluation of their applications to contemporary issues in psychology. Finally
there will be an analysis of the similarities and differences between each perspective and a conclusion.
The behaviourist perspective is a scientific approach within psychology which claims that we are
blank slates at birth and all human behaviour is learnt.Behaviourism was developed by John Watson in
America in the early 1900s, (Cullis, T1999). Behaviourists focus on external conditions, learning and

He investigated his theory further by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditional
stimulus, such as the ringing of a bell with the arrival of food; this eventually led to the bell ringing
alone causing the dog to salivate. Pavlov believed the bell was a conditional stimulus and salivating to
the bell was considered the conditional response.
B. F. Skinner was another influential psychologist who developed the theory of operant conditioning.
Unlike Pavlov, Skinner thought that behaviour was determined by the consequences or rewards
generated after the response, he called this operant conditioning, (Cherry, K 2005). Skinner invented a
device which contained a button which an animal could press in order to gain food, water or some
other form of reinforcement. Using this box he discovered two forms of reinforcement, positive
(which resulted in a favourable outcome), and negative (which resulted in removal of unfavourable
outcomes).
Cognitive psychology, as opposed to behavioural psychology, is the science of how we think.
Cognitive psychologists are concerned with the human brain and its functioning as an information
processor. Key areas of interest within cognitive psychology are mental processes such as memory,
perception, problem solving, language, creativity, attention span and thinking. Ulric Neisser published
Cognitive Psychology in 1967

Perception And Perception Of Perception Essay
Perception serves more than one purpose to the human experience. Wikipedia defines Perception as
the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and
understand the environment. This definition unfortunately describes only one of the services
perception provides. I would like to offer instead the definition Perception is a collection of data
filters, some natural but most created by education and experience, which serve to shape and enforce
limits on sensory and intellectual data that is considered to provide the individual a world view in
which to operate within. Similar definitions yes, but the differences are critical.
In the Wikipedia definition, perception is nothing more than an interpreter of sensory information. It
implies that all sensory information is considered, and considered equally. Additionally it implies that
intellectual data such as words, symbols, and events are not subject to perceptional filters. These
critical omissions remove from view that perception is subjective and subordinate to the human
intellect, a key concept in the road to higher enlightenment which I will discuss in future posts.
Perception provides to the human experience with:
A world view to determine what sensory and intellectual data to consider and what to discard based
upon (representative, not all inclusive):
Personal Impact
Personal Accountability
Personal Interest
Personal Relevance
Ability to effect

I. Introduction In 1968 Richard M. Nixon a 55 year old former vice president who lost the presidency
for the Republicans in 1960 reclaimed himself by defeating Hubert Humphrey in one of the closest
elections in United States history. On July 23, 1970 Nixon approves for a plan for greatly expanding

unit named for the orders to plug leeks in the administration steals files on Daniel Ellsberg, the former
defense analyst who leaked the pentagon papers from a local physiology office. On the evening of

Man s Search For Meaning By Victor Frankl
Author Victor E. Frankl wrote a book called Man s Search for Meaning. He had always fantasized
about being a doctor from a young age. He lived in Vienna, and studied medicine, psychology and
logotherapy which is the healing through meaning. In 1942 his family was arrested and taken to
Theresienstadt in Bohemia. His family had died in the camp except his sister; she was the only one to
survive besides him. He began to write a script while in the camps he was in (he moved to 3 different
camps during the holocaust). It was called, The Doctor and The Soul. He wrote it on pieces of paper
he found in the camps. In 1945 his camp was set free and he finished his manuscript. When he got out,

When he is explaining his experience he discusses how he tried to understand the minds of the people
suffering around him. In the book he describes his admittance into the camp, the everyday camp
schedule and his release from the camp. When he is talking about his involvement in the camp he
noticed many people experienced shock. As a part of this he noticed most people believed that the
gassing would be stopped or delayed right before their execution. There was always a tiny hope
fluctuation around in the camps that they would live to see freedom. Once people started to lose
optimism that they would survive, suicides were common and majority of the prisoners lacked
enthusiasm and energy which created emotional emptiness. He thought that people had the ability to
governor and choose their piety and mental stability. Frankl said that people struggled with not
knowing when the torment and suffering would end. He thought that people who couldn t foresee
themselves getting out lost control of their mental stability. When freedom does eventually arrive for
those who had survived they had a hard time accepting it because they never thought it would happen.
He states that some prisoners weren t even happy about being released. Once they were released the
former prisoners had to relearn how to experience things that didn t revolve around suffering. Once
the holocaust is over and everyone has been released the book goes on to describe the techniques to
help people that are still mentally ill from the horrifying experience. He states that the only way to
help them find their meaning for life is Logotherapy. He thinks you can discover it in 3 ways which
are to perform a deed, experience something and display an attitude toward suffering. A

Description Of A Man s Voice
We sat on a cheap wooden bench in the security room in the back of Lord and Taylor, our bags lay on
their sides, the contents spilled across the concrete floor. Little white tags hung from the fabric, a few
seams were noticeably ripped along the side ribbing of the clothing. Computer screens encompassed
the room, the surveillance footage rotated intermittently from Camera 1 to Camera 2 to Dressing
Room Camera. The man s voice was barely audible through the wall behind me, as he called my
parents and the authorities. He came back into the room with the woman who had grabbed my arm as
I exited the department store, announcing that the price for all of the products I had stolen totaled to
approximately $1,300 though he hadn t calculated in the damages of the torn clothing where the
security buttons were ripped out. My best friend, better known as my fellow thief, called her mom to
retrieve us. I used the thick silence of that car ride to prepare something mitigating to say to my
mother. When I delicately, respectfully, quietly entered the foyer, my mom sat waiting, drilling me
with questions. As I entered the foyer, my mom, who had been undoubtedly stewing in her own
thoughts as she awaited my arrival, drilled me with questions. Why would you do this? Because it s
fun. Who made you do this? As if I can t make my own decisions and fuck up my life on my own.
How long has this been going on? I told her once before but in reality it had been going on for a while.

Essay on Interpersonal Communications
Interpersonal Communications As social animals, relationships play a huge role in every individual s
life. They shape one s life at the micro and macro level. This means that relationships can be made up
of a bond between two people or a bond that is as large as a connection between entire societies.
While it is important to understand the full range of how relationships affect one s life, it is essential
that each relationship type gets the full attention that it deserves. One of the types of relationships that
is most common in the United States is known as friends with benefits. This friends with benefits type

Now that we know the difference between hooking up and a friends with benefits relationship we can
go into detail on this type of interaction. Friends with benefits, in its essence, is an agreement between
two people who are friends and are attracted to one another, so much so, that they are able to have an
on going sexual relationship without any demands or expectations. Because both participants were
friends before any sexual activities took place, they hold a type of respect and compassion towards
one another which neither person would want to mistreat. This is why this type of relationship requires
a lot of pre sex discussion and setting of boundaries. This agreement allows BOTH participants to be
aware that they are only having sex together to compensate each other s lack of affection from
elsewhere and sexual needs. This is convenient sex with no commitment. Other ground rules are
discussed such as being open to see other people without jealousy issues, who will be allowed to know
about the arrangement, and whether it will continue into any other relationship one or the other may
want in the future. The main reason why this relationship is so tricky is because there is a bond
between both people. These two people do care for one another and enjoy each other just not as much
as a romantic relationship.

Response Paper On Rituals
Response Paper #2 By Yaffa Segal From my understanding, a ritual is something that occurs more
than once and has a meaning behind it. For example, a prayer. A more basic example could be
brushing your teeth every morning after you wake up. Rituals are used both by humans and animals.
Animals often have mating rituals. Humans have been performing rituals since the earliest of times for
a variety of reasons. In the Stone Age, rituals could have been used to communicate with gods or dead
ancestors. They could also have been used to mark different times of the year. For example, the
different seasons. Rituals were a form of symbolic activity. Some rituals even involved masks or other
carvings. Perhaps there was even a ritual for making a carving. ... Show more content on

We use many forms of expression in this ritual. First of all, there are certain prayers that are said in
synagogue. The prayers take a lot longer than normal, and generally finish around 2:30pm. On both
the first evening and the second evening we eat simanim, which are symbolic foods. The first is honey
in order to pray for a sweet new year. The custom is to dip an apple in honey. Another food is carrots
so that G d will nullify any bad decrees. We eat beets so that our enemies will be removed. Another
food is the head of a fish. Not everyone eats it, as many do not find it appealing. However, most
people have a tiny piece from it. This is to symbolize that we be like the head and not the tail; always
moving forward, not backwards. We eat leak (or cabbage) so that those who want to hurt us will be cut
off. Other symbolic foods include dates, gourd, beats, and pomegranate seeds. We say a blessing on
each one. One Rosh Hashanah, we wish others a shanah tova which means a good year. Rosh
Hashanah is a time for judgement. G d writes your fate for the year. On Rosh Hashanah it is written
and on Yom Kippur (about a week later) it is sealed. On Rosh Hashanah we are praying that G d will
give us a sweet, new year and that nothing bad will happen to us. A major part of Rosh Hashanah is to
blow the shofar, which is a hollowed out ram s horn. This shofar is a wake up call for us in order to
remind us to wake up and repent for any of our wrongdoings. Although I have celebrated Rosh
Hashanah every year since I was born, I actually do not know the origins of it. I have never thought
about that before, and it is something I am definitely going to look

of gold, made the first effort to settle on the island in 1508. In the next twenty years, the Taino
population became decimated while forced to labor in prospecting gold, a phase that ended in this
time, succumbing to disease and a breakdown in their social network.
An important implication of this initial occupation of the island by Spaniards is the imposition of the
Spanish language. Because the Taino population could be counted in small amounts and Spanish had
established their presence on the island by instilling their language as the only accepted language, in
the name of Spain, a first storey was constructed in the notion of identity of the Puerto Rican. The
Tainos had been moved out and taken over, the Spanish had moved in and started to let their culture

  • 2. How Did Marcel Duchamp s Use Of Imagery In Pop Art Pop Art c. 1952 1970 Pop art began to emerge in the early 1950s as a result of a booming, capitalist American economy that followed the Second World War. A sense of optimism arose nationwide with new job security, healthy incomes and an absence of military obligations. Post war marriage and baby booms yielded the largest generation in the nations history . The American dream was born and idealized in the media through advertising. Research undertaken by sociologists into consumer habits and behavior became a marketing strategy and corporations adapted their production by tapping into what was fashionable and desirable among the masses. The exponentially growing population gave way to a social group that had never before been established in its own right, teenagers. Now that families could afford to give their children a wholesome education, this age group no longer had to spend their days contributing to the family income at work, which left more time and freedom for leisure activities. As adolescents began to follow popular music and culture, the concept of popular culture exploded in America. This in turn is from where the movement of Pop art was derived. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marcel Duchamp s concept of the objet trouvé or ready made as subject matter and material for his work inspired the use of popular imagery in Pop art. The use of trivial imagery in his work brought art into the every day world and made the every day world into art. In his book Pop Art, Tilman Osterwold declares Dada combined advertising, images and texts, slogans, revolutionary films, assemblages, theatre and performances in its art. It was this idea of reality dubbed as art that later inspired Andy Warhol in his Campbell s Soup ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Horse Slaughter Is The Act Of Slaughtering Horses For the past five thousand years the horse has been of greater human interest for its strength than as a food source. However, American horses are still shipped over our borders and slaughtered for human consumption overseas. Horse slaughter and the export of horses from the United States should be banned because it is cruel and inhumane; furthermore, consuming American horse meat can be detrimental to human health. Horse slaughter is the act of slaughtering horses to obtain their meat for human (or animal) consumption. Horses are mainly slaughtered for human consumption, however there are some zoos that feed their animals horse meat. Horse slaughter is exactly what it sounds like, it is slaughter, these horses are not humanely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The industry is continuing to seek its reestablishment while lawsuits from animal welfare activists attempt to hinder their attempts. However although horses are not slaughtered or eaten in the United States, more than 100,000 companion, working and even wild horses are shipped to Mexican and Canadian slaughterhouses for consumption overseas in Europe and Asia each year (Stepping). Horses end up at slaughter through a number of ways. The most common being that horse owners bring their horses to livestock auctions when they can no longer afford them, expecting them to find a good home. However, that is not always the case, what sellers fail to realize is there are middlemen for foreign owned slaughterhouses, known as kill buyers , who frequent these auctions looking for horses. Often kill buyers can be see communicating with the auctioneer in the auction ring. They often outbid genuine horse owners and rescues, robbing the horses of the opportunity for a second chance at life. (Transport) Sometimes kill buyers respond to Free horse to good home advertisements. These advertisements are usually from families who love their horses but can no longer afford them so they give them away. They sign a paper thinking that their horse is going to a good home but in actuality they are signing the horse s death warrant. Along with kill buyers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparing Story Openings of Bleak House by Charles... At the opening of the story The Outsider , the writer Albert Camus places time in the wrong order. This creates the impression that we are seeing into the character s thoughts rather than a story being told to us. It works very effectively as the paragraphs are spontaneous and not in any form of order, thus creating a mental picture in our heads of one or two day?s worth of events, as if we were remembering them ourselves. This, however, does not apply to Bleak house. Dickens does not use any form of time, but instead decides to describe what is happening and makes the days, time, week or month irrelevant. It could be any day, but Dickens does not want time to be the focal point of his story. This is effective because our interest is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dickens starts the second paragraph with ?fog everywhere?. The bluntness and the repetitiveness work well together in painting a picture, making an impression in your mind that you won?t forget. Camus, in ?The Outsider?, makes a conscious decision not to use figurative language in his story, once again creating the illusion of spontaneous thought. When using everyday language or when thinking we do not include metaphors, similes or onomatopoeias, for example, ?Today, I should not have fought Tracy in the office like a tigress who hasn?t eaten in a week, sinking my long, sharp claws and teeth into her flesh?. Or at least it is uncommon to anyway. Camus is very economical with his language. However, Dickens, in ?Bleak House?, uses the opposite, applying figurative and descriptive language wherever he can, to create the strong mental impressionistic painting in our minds to which the narrator uses as a backdrop. Dickens also makes very subtle jokes in his opening, for example ??with flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snow flake ? gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death for the sun.? This is ironic as, because of the setting of the story (post Michaelmas) snow flakes remind of happy Christmas time joy, but instead Dickens personifies them, as if they have feelings about the surroundings, ?gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.? When people think of sales people, the first thing that comes to their minds is liar, thief and someone who is trying persuade you do something for more of their benefit than yours. Ethics is an issue that will never go away, until we find a solution that will divert this behavior. Majority of sales people especially in the real estate field are commission only, so its feast or famine. It would be fitting if all sales people were made to take a budgeting course, before they could apply for their license or make it a requirement within the licensing. This will help those people realize that the 1099 money they make is not all theirs, that they need to learn to budget for taxes, office and licensing expenses. Majority of fraud and ethical issues in the business derives from those who don t know how to budget and need to get paid immediately. Being a real estate you have duties you have to fulfill not only to yourself, your company but most importantly to the customers. Being a real estate does mean you automatically make a ton of money, this is a total misconception of people. Yes, you can make a lot of money, but it takes time and you have to build your business. Much literature providing an overview of housing vouchers distinguishes between the different types of rental assistance, including project units, Section 8 project based assistance, and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. To demonstrate this gap numerically for the state of Iowa, the DailyHerald has compiled a working database on the test score differences, depending on the individual grade of the child and income bracket of the child s family (Broderick, 2014). Additionally, sociologists Geoffrey Wodtke and David Harding conducted a study to measure the high school graduation rate of high poverty, versus low poverty children and found that the chances of finishing high school are far lower for children whose families are in the lowest income bracket than for more economically privileged children (Wodtke Elwert, 2011). Databases from The College Board reveal that this gap in achievement also translates into SAT scores, and later acceptance into college. • 12. A Child s Understanding of Conservation as Seen by Piaget The study of conservation task by Piaget typically yields the result that children at a certain age group exhibit certain understanding of conservation. A child younger than 7 or 8 is incapable of understanding the basis of conservation (Piaget Inhelder, 1974). Piaget s theory suggests that a child s understanding of conservation marks a transitional period in their development where cognitive perceptions change from pre operational to operational (Inhelder Piaget, 1958). Conservation is defined as the knowledge that appearance may change but quantity and weight or number remain unchanged in a child s mind despite transformations such as changing the object s shape, sectioning it into pieces or displacing it into different containers (Siegal, 2003). Piaget himself has found out that the conservation of certain variables is not achieved together at the same time (Flavell, 1963). According to Flavell (1963), Piaget s subject s showed that conservation of matter is common at 8 to 10 years of age, weight at 10 to 12 and volume only at 12 years onwards. Piaget s study of conservation of number yielded similar results when administered to children of age 4 to 7 (Flavell, 1963). In the study conducted (1974), 180 children aged 4 to 6 were experimented upon to gather knowledge on a child s conservation of properties; matter, weight and volume as Piaget had believed that a child a pre operational stage would not be able to comprehend conservation and believes that to be ... A Study On The And Properties Of Aluminium Alloys CHAPTER 3 LITERATURE REVIEW 3.1 Introduction The Al Zn Mg series aluminium alloys (7xxx) are the heat treatable alloys and widely applied as large structural components in navigation and transportation facilities, due to good combination of hardness, high strength and fracture toughness [1 6]. The use of Sc (scandium) to achieve grain refinement has recently received great attention. The microstructures and properties of aluminium alloys are strongly affected by adding small quantities of scandium. Scandium additions in excess of 0.55wt.% (i.e., hypereutectic) are very effective in grain refinement, suggesting that the primary ScAl3 phase serves as an effective grain nucleant [7 9]. The effect of a Sc addition will of course depend on the composition of the alloy. The additions of Sc in aluminium alloy appear to reduce hot tearing and shrinkage porosity. Hot shortness increase with increase in Zn but decrease with increase in Mg content [10, 11]. The process of precipitation in the Al Zn Mg alloy system is quite complex. The aged structure and the kinetics of ageing depend on both the Zn and Mg concentration and the temperatures of solution and ageing treatments. As the Sc contents increases within the specified solubility in the solid solution, the grains virtually do not disintegrate. The maximum solubility of scandium increases from 0.35 to 0.6 wt.% [12, 13]. When the amount of scandium exceeds the eutectic content and, consequently, there appear primary particles of ... In order achieve this we use both mental representations and mental processes. Like in any other situation, much of these cognitive functions are being used in the Sherlock s Holmes YouTube video Dinner with Mary Morstan and Watson . At the beginning of the clip, you can hear the noise of the restaurant. Holmes closes his eyes, then shortly afterwards Watson calls his name. This redirects his attention to the source of the stimulus, Watson. We refer to this phenomenon as the Cocktail Party Effect. This effect describes the brain s ability to block out unimportant stimuli in order to focus upon more important stimuli. They are doing this in the restaurant with a room filled with people; who are having their own separate conversations yet they are still able to ignore background conversations and focus on theirs. Furthermore, the Stoplight Theory indicated that our attention is invoked Like Spotlight that highlights information within its beam, in this view, spatial attention selectively brings information within a circumscribed region of space to awareness, and information out that region is more likely to be ignored. • 24. Characteristics Of A Good Movie What makes a good film? Choosing my top ten favorite films was literally the hardest thing I ve ever done. How did I narrow it down? I thought what movies could I watch for the rest of my life. What makes a good movie? Well, for one the script has to be good. If the storyline isn t good, but the acting and effects are good; its still a bad movie. Its like having a slice of pizza that was cooked and dressed perfectly but the pepperoni and cheese are expired; it doesn t sound to appealing. A good story has seven elements. Number one being the purpose of the story, whether it be informative, persuasive, etc. Then there has to be a three dimensional character that changes over time. After a story has established a point and main character there needs to be a quest, conflict, or task that is out of reach for them to pursue. Now we need an antagonist that s hell bent on stopping the hero of the story. At this point, the protagonist is changing for the worst or growing for the better. Finally we come to big conflict scene were the truth comes out; the big fight scene, or the part that displays the growth of main character. In my opinion, a movie that displays this well is Enough. The movie Enough is about a waitress, Slim, that marries a wealthy contractor named Mitch. He seems like the perfect man who gives her everything she wants; a nice life in the suburbs and a family. • 28. Perception And Perception Of Perception Essay Perception serves more than one purpose to the human experience. Wikipedia defines Perception as the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment. This definition unfortunately describes only one of the services perception provides. I would like to offer instead the definition Perception is a collection of data filters, some natural but most created by education and experience, which serve to shape and enforce limits on sensory and intellectual data that is considered to provide the individual a world view in which to operate within. Similar definitions yes, but the differences are critical. In the Wikipedia definition, perception is nothing more than an interpreter of sensory information. It implies that all sensory information is considered, and considered equally. Additionally it implies that intellectual data such as words, symbols, and events are not subject to perceptional filters. These critical omissions remove from view that perception is subjective and subordinate to the human intellect, a key concept in the road to higher enlightenment which I will discuss in future posts. Perception provides to the human experience with: A world view to determine what sensory and intellectual data to consider and what to discard based upon (representative, not all inclusive): Personal Impact Personal Accountability Personal Interest Personal Relevance Ability to effect Sources ... • 34. Man s Search For Meaning By Victor Frankl Author Victor E. Frankl wrote a book called Man s Search for Meaning. He had always fantasized about being a doctor from a young age. He lived in Vienna, and studied medicine, psychology and logotherapy which is the healing through meaning. In 1942 his family was arrested and taken to Theresienstadt in Bohemia. His family had died in the camp except his sister; she was the only one to survive besides him. He began to write a script while in the camps he was in (he moved to 3 different camps during the holocaust). It was called, The Doctor and The Soul. He wrote it on pieces of paper he found in the camps. In 1945 his camp was set free and he finished his manuscript. When he got out, he became the director of the Vienna Neurological Policlinic. ... In the book he describes his admittance into the camp, the everyday camp schedule and his release from the camp. When he is talking about his involvement in the camp he noticed many people experienced shock. As a part of this he noticed most people believed that the gassing would be stopped or delayed right before their execution. There was always a tiny hope fluctuation around in the camps that they would live to see freedom. Once people started to lose optimism that they would survive, suicides were common and majority of the prisoners lacked enthusiasm and energy which created emotional emptiness. He thought that people had the ability to governor and choose their piety and mental stability. Frankl said that people struggled with not knowing when the torment and suffering would end. He thought that people who couldn t foresee themselves getting out lost control of their mental stability. When freedom does eventually arrive for those who had survived they had a hard time accepting it because they never thought it would happen. He states that some prisoners weren t even happy about being released. Once they were released the former prisoners had to relearn how to experience things that didn t revolve around suffering. Once the holocaust is over and everyone has been released the book goes on to describe the techniques to help people that are still mentally ill from the horrifying experience. He states that the only way to help them find their meaning for life is Logotherapy. • 36. Description Of A Man s Voice We sat on a cheap wooden bench in the security room in the back of Lord and Taylor, our bags lay on their sides, the contents spilled across the concrete floor. Little white tags hung from the fabric, a few seams were noticeably ripped along the side ribbing of the clothing. Computer screens encompassed the room, the surveillance footage rotated intermittently from Camera 1 to Camera 2 to Dressing Room Camera. The man s voice was barely audible through the wall behind me, as he called my parents and the authorities. He came back into the room with the woman who had grabbed my arm as I exited the department store, announcing that the price for all of the products I had stolen totaled to approximately $1,300 though he hadn t calculated in the damages of the torn clothing where the security buttons were ripped out. Now that we know the difference between hooking up and a friends with benefits relationship we can go into detail on this type of interaction. Friends with benefits, in its essence, is an agreement between two people who are friends and are attracted to one another, so much so, that they are able to have an on going sexual relationship without any demands or expectations. Because both participants were friends before any sexual activities took place, they hold a type of respect and compassion towards one another which neither person would want to mistreat. This is why this type of relationship requires a lot of pre sex discussion and setting of boundaries. This agreement allows BOTH participants to be aware that they are only having sex together to compensate each other s lack of affection from elsewhere and sexual needs. This is convenient sex with no commitment. Other ground rules are discussed such as being open to see other people without jealousy issues, who will be allowed to know about the arrangement, and whether it will continue into any other relationship one or the other may want in the future. The main reason why this relationship is so tricky is because there is a bond between both people. These two people do care for one another and enjoy each other just not as much as a romantic relationship. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Response Paper On Rituals Response Paper #2 By Yaffa Segal From my understanding, a ritual is something that occurs more than once and has a meaning behind it. For example, a prayer. A more basic example could be brushing your teeth every morning after you wake up. Rituals are used both by humans and animals. Animals often have mating rituals. Humans have been performing rituals since the earliest of times for a variety of reasons. In the Stone Age, rituals could have been used to communicate with gods or dead ancestors. They could also have been used to mark different times of the year. For example, the different seasons. Rituals were a form of symbolic activity. Some rituals even involved masks or other carvings. Perhaps there was even a ritual for making a carving. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We use many forms of expression in this ritual. First of all, there are certain prayers that are said in synagogue. The prayers take a lot longer than normal, and generally finish around 2:30pm. On both the first evening and the second evening we eat simanim, which are symbolic foods. The first is honey in order to pray for a sweet new year. The custom is to dip an apple in honey. Another food is carrots so that G d will nullify any bad decrees. We eat beets so that our enemies will be removed. Another food is the head of a fish. Not everyone eats it, as many do not find it appealing. However, most people have a tiny piece from it. This is to symbolize that we be like the head and not the tail; always moving forward, not backwards. We eat leak (or cabbage) so that those who want to hurt us will be cut off. Other symbolic foods include dates, gourd, beats, and pomegranate seeds. We say a blessing on each one. One Rosh Hashanah, we wish others a shanah tova which means a good year. Rosh Hashanah is a time for judgement. G d writes your fate for the year. On Rosh Hashanah it is written and on Yom Kippur (about a week later) it is sealed. On Rosh Hashanah we are praying that G d will give us a sweet, new year and that nothing bad will happen to us. A major part of Rosh Hashanah is to blow the shofar, which is a hollowed out ram s horn. This shofar is a wake up call for us in order to remind us to wake up and repent for any of our wrongdoings. The name immediately brings to mind images of a beautiful lush tropical island of enchantment. The name Puerto Rico usually does not conjure the image of Taino Indians or African slaves, yet these populations have great importance in laying the foundation for the notion of identity of Puerto Ricans. In contemporary debates of Puerto Rican identity, it is essential to examine the history of the island to determine the effects of Spanish colonialism on Puerto Rican identity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 17). The island s discovery did not lead to a quick occupation, though. Juan Ponce de Leon, in search of gold, made the first effort to settle on the island in 1508. In the next twenty years, the Taino population became decimated while forced to labor in prospecting gold, a phase that ended in this time, succumbing to disease and a breakdown in their social network. An important implication of this initial occupation of the island by Spaniards is the imposition of the Spanish language. Because the Taino population could be counted in small amounts and Spanish had established their presence on the island by instilling their language as the only accepted language, in the name of Spain, a first storey was constructed in the notion of identity of the Puerto Rican. The Tainos had been moved out and taken over, the Spanish had moved in and started to let their culture infiltrate into that of the Taino, and now things were changing. Because the gold rush on the island lost its surge, the Spanish turned its attention to the agricultural success they could have with the island. However, as a result of their occupation, they lacked the labor force to effectively move an agricultural economy.
