The Great Recession Of 2008-9
The Great Recession of 2008 9 was the deepest and longest capitalist economic slump since the Great
Depression of 1929 32. The recent financial crisis is known as the Great Recession of 2008 9. Its
downturn was sparked by the collapse of the US housing market. In 2006, the prices of home began to
rise and the banks began to encourage potential homebuyers to take out larger loans. There were lower
interest rates at the time, and this seemed like a good idea for most individuals who were searching for
a new home. Then, in mid 2007, the interest rates began to rise. The values of the homes decreased
and the amount of money a house was worth declined significantly. Many homeowners were stuck
with large loans, increasingly high interest rates, and a decreased price of their home. Many
homeowners went into foreclosure or were evicted. This eventually led to large financial institutions
and banks to become bankrupt, which lead to an overall fall in the US economy. Stocks dropped,
consumer spending declined significantly, and companies began to go out of business (Athanasiu, 43).
This financial crisis has impacted the economy tremendously during that period. Businesses have been
drastically impacted, as have the lives of workers in the United States. Many articles have been
published about different aspects of the recession. One question that has not been completely
addressed is how the Great Recession has affected small business and unemployment rates. The
reason for addressing

Guilty Media Pleasure Research Paper
Week 5: Guilty Media Pleasure
Let s face it, we live in a time period where people have more pictures of themselves in one night than
our own grandfather did in his entire life. Electronic billboards on the highway read Don t Pokemon
and Drive. And the new Declaration of Independence is the never ending articles written about Kylie
Jenner s lips. Yes, guys, this is America. This celebrity culture has been tattooed on us ever since our
founding fathers were taken over by Beyoncé. It s tiring trying to keep up with Taylor Swift s next
boyfriend, but we do it because we are wired into the world of image makers. So, when my friends ask

This is not just another Christmas movie or American classic; this is a story of how wonderful life is.
This is a story of embracing the little acts of kindness to help others that I find comforting. Maybe
George Bailey didn t have an education, but he knew what love was. And he surely didn t leave a
name for himself, except friend. No, George Bailey did not find himself, but he found the people who
love him and need him. He wanted to throw his life away until he found how precious and valuable he
is with the amount of lives he touched. Life is about giving away your time, energy and love for other
s sake. We realize how important one s life is and how much one can impact us. The bigger, faster,
louder, up to date millennials might complain this movie is overrated, cheesy, and clearly not up to
date. I know this movie has no color, no fast paced action or high definition appearances, but it states a
simple message. It s a Wonderful Life doesn t win the award of being the highest rated movie
featuring the best known celebrities, but it exemplifies a loving message that reminds us to appreciate

Elementary Dual Language Program At Lincoln Elementary School
I observed a 3rd grade dual language program at Lincoln Elementary School in Blue Island, Illinois.
The philosophy of the program is to provide a well rounded educational foundation that supports
children s academic, physical, and emotional growth, success, and commitment to others. They
believe that if they can create a community in the classrooms, have high expectations for all students,
and nurture their native language as well as their second language, the students will be successful.
The program consisted of 2 classrooms. During the school day, 50% of the time the students are
learning in Spanish listening, speaking, reading, and writing. And the other 50% is spent learning in
English. The English class teaches English/Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. The Spanish
class teaches English/language Arts, Science. The English teacher is not allowed to speak Spanish, not
even to help out students. The Spanish teacher is not allowed to speak English, not even to help out
students. However both teachers used the language they were not allowed to speak to teach cognates.
The third graders were able to understand Spanish and English, respond in Spanish and English, and
write in Spanish and English. This is not like a bilingual classroom where students are transitioning
from Spanish to being proficient in English. They are all on different levels of proficiency, but all
students read, write, listen, and speak in both languages.
There were sixteen students in each

Assignment Questions On Computer Systems Essay
Assignment 1 Computer Systems
Processor (CPU) The Central processing unit (CPU) is where all the calculations take place within the
computer system. The CPU connects directly to a socket on the motherboard. The processor is
responsible for carrying out instructions (programs), it can take inputs from input devices such as a
keyboard or mouse, and then use this to create an output to be displayed on a monitor or for printing.
Motherboard The motherboard contains the basic circuitry, and many of the components connect to it.
The motherboard is responsible of allocating the power, supplied by the PSU, to the other components
connected to the board. It also allows the different components within the computer system to
communicate to each other and send information around. The motherboard also houses all of the ports
that go on the back panel of the pc.
Power Supply The power supply, or Power Supply Unit (PSU), is the component that supplies power
to the components of the computer system. It does this by converting the AC current from the mains
socket do DC current. The power supply is also capable of regulating the voltage that the computer
system receives this helps to avoid any abnormal spikes of high voltage that could damage, or destroy
components of the computer. PSU s are rated by the number of watts that they generate.
Cooling (E.g. Fan, Heatsink) The purpose of any cooling device is to draw the heat away from the
components within a computer system

Wang Lung s Life In The Good Earth
In The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, Wang Lung s life is affected by the land, making the land
important to him. As he makes money from the land s harvest, he becomes rich and does not work on
the land. Wang Lung has other problems to face because he forgets about how important the land is to
him. In the end, he realizes the land provides him with not only food and profit but also happiness. In
the beginning of the novel, Wang Lung is getting ready to go to the House of Hwang to meet O lan.
He brings her to his home on the farm and they get married. Soon they find out O lan is expecting a
baby. She gives birth to a son but quickly returns to the fields to work beside her husband. On New
Year s day, O lan presents her son to her old mistress at the House of Hwang. Wang Lung is proud of
O lan for giving him a son. After Wang Lung and O lan get married, they start planting crops because
it is the way they earn money. Even after O lan gives birth, she goes out to the fields because she
knows they need to earn a living. After the family s New Year s day visit to the House of Hwang,

Robert H. Clancy s Un-American Bill
An Un American Bill : A Congressman Denounces Immigration Quotes Robert H. Clancy, an
American congressman, gave a speech on April 8th, 1924 against the Johnson Reed Act after World
War 1. He presents his speech with a compelling and passionate tone to Congress. He emphasized the
harsh, discriminative atmosphere people with a line of foreigners lived with in America. Clancy
establishes an argument of extreme and unjust racial discrimination against foreigners in America with
touching anecdotes and personal experiences, riveting graphic images, and powerful diction, proving
his points with ease. Clancy contrived a glorious amount of anecdotes to share with Congress back in
1924. As Clancy explains, I learned more of the spirit of American history at my mother s knee than I
ever learned in my four years of high school study of American history and in my five and a half years
of study at the great University of Michigan (Clancy, 3). Clancy presented this personal experience to
explain the un Americanism of Americans with little to no foreign descent. He continuously points out
the Americanism of Americans of foreign descent. According to statistics, Clancy lists percentages of

He illustrates in his presentation, Some of these men and boys shed their blood and left their bodies to
rot on American battle fields (Clancy 3). This plants a horrific image in the Congressmen s minds,
giving the argument an excellent backbone with appeal to emotion. Clancy also uses in his speech, My
mother s father fought in the Civil War, leaving his six small children in Detroit when he marched
away to the southern battle fields to fight against racial distinctions and protect his country (Clancy 3).
This quote provides a riveting image of a father leaving a beloved family for war, invoking powerful

What Is The Theme Of Society In Fahrenheit 451
As society progresses, technology and customs often progress proportionally. Social customs, and the
way a group of people function as a whole are often altered by significant events or a change in
societal variables. Occasionally, this leads to situations in which certain facets of society begin to
drastically differ from their original form. Take for example, the abolition of slavery in the United
States in 1865. Slavery had been a vastly unchallenged component of American society until that point
(excluding the period of abolition efforts). When this changed, the government had to implement a
number of laws that reversed prior legislation concerning slavery. In many ways, Ray Bradbury s
fictional society in his dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451 mirrors this by presenting a repressive
community in which many factors contribute to mass apathy and a passive state of perpetual passive
occupation. Social contact is central to human happiness, but as our technology increases in its
proficiency, there tends to be a disconnect in interpersonal contact. This feature of society is predicted
64 years ahead of time, and is highlighted frequently throughout the book, manifested in Mildred s ear
seashells and talking walls for entertainment. On a walk with Montag, Clarisse mentions that she is
often ostracized from her peers due to her antisocial tendencies. However, the audience must pause to
consider what she means by antisocial here to fully grasp the gravity and relevance of her

Irony And The Paradoxes Of War By Wilfred Owen
Irony is an important literary device wherein what appears to be true is radically different from what
actually happens. Wilfred Owen has used this technique in many of his poems to effectively convey
the paradoxes of war. The use of irony isn t surprising as there was a stark difference between what the
soldiers were told about war and what actually happened during war and their experiences. Through
his irony in his poems, during the World War I, Owen expressed what so many people felt about the
war. As the war continued they realized that they were lied to and were misled by war propaganda, but
in reality the war was very brutal and different indeed. Wilfred Owen was one of the few poets who
unveiled the true colours of war and showed how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However ideally a young boy is supposed to be given an option to what he wants to become when he
grows up. Unfortunately these boys are forced to become soldier even though they aren t old enough.
The first line, which starts with an imperative word, Let the boy try along this bayonet blade
delineates this. Even though it seems that they get an option to try , they don t really have one. As try
would indicate that they could check to see if it is their cup to tea, however when they are given the
bayonet blade and sent to war there is no trial. You either survive the war or you die and hence the
term try is ironic as the war is inevitably enforced upon them. The subtle tone and euphemistic
language, which portrays a suggestion, is used to show that the boy is given weapons and emphasis
the cynicism present. In like manner the opening of the second stanza, Lend him to stroke these blind,
blunt bullet leads , elucidates that the speakers continues to give commands and is ironic as no boy
that is lent to war ever comes back home. Therefore you aren t lending them and rather giving them up
to war. The alliteration present in this line, which is, blind blunt bullet , emphasis the viciousness of
the weapons through the harsh pronunciation of the letter b . This depicts the fact that it is impossible
to get away from the thirst of the weapons as the bullets just kill blindly and death is assured when
you join the war, hence mocking the use of the words Lend him as you aren t going to get him

Disadvantages Of Electric Vehicles
Electric vehicles (EVs) are considered a key technology in reducing fossil fuel consumption,
emissions and energy consumption. In comparison with internal combustion vehicles (ICV), EVs offer
highly efficient energy usage (around three times as efficient as an ICV), zero emissions and low noise
level, aspects that are necessary to improve the quality of life in urban areas.
According to the latest IEA report, global electric car stock surpassed 2 million vehicles in 2016.
However, electric vehicles still only account for 0.2 per cent of all the cars in the world [ ]. In spite of
this, there are still a number of barriers to be overcome in order to increase demand for EVs. The
major obstacles are: the limited driving range, high investment costs, compared to ICV, the slow
recharging time and the resistance to innovation. [ ].
Thomas Franke Josef F. Krems [ ] present an excellent literature review of driving range needs of
vehicles in several countries. Pearre et al. [ ] shows an interesting discussion on the limited driving
range issue and aims to indicate an ideal driving range based on the consumers necessities in Atlanta
(USA). Several studies found that in Germany 95% of cars on the road travel less than 100 km [ ].
Despite this, a survey showed that 60% of drivers in EU would not consider it acceptable to have a
driving range of less than 160 km [ ]. This agrees with a recent survey in which most electric vehicles
sold in recent years have a driving range over 120

Battery Park Research Paper
Battery Park City is a mainly residential, 92 acre community, located on the southwestern tip of
Manhattan. The community is built mostly on landfill made of soil and rock excavated during the
construction of The World Trade Center. Geographically, the area is surrounded by the Financial
District on the southeastern side, Tribeca on the northeastern side, and by the Hudson River on the
west side.
Named for its historic park, Battery Park actually did not exist 50 years ago. The park itself got its
name in 1623, when early Dutch settlers landed and placed battery cannons in order to protect the
land. In the 1800 s, the land was mostly used as an immigration center. Once Ellis Island was
established as an alternate immigration center in 1892, Battery Park lost its role. Battery Park
contained many shipping piers, which latter lost its purpose with the creation of air travel.
By the 1950 s, many private firms proposed that the area be reconstructed through landfill, which
governor Nelson Rockefeller agreed with. The plan became complicated, as Rockefeller wanted to
redevelop the land as a separate project. In 1966 Rockefeller proposed what would become Battery
Park City, and hired Wallace K. Harrison as the architect in order to create a balance of residential ...

A Short Note On Non Disclosure Agreement ( Nda )
4.708 International Business Law assignment1
Wang anqi 20142345
Summaries of non disclosure agreement
A non disclosure agreement (NDA), also known as a confidentiality agreement (CA), is a legitimate
contract between no less than two that frameworks secret material, learning, or information that the
parties wish to impart to each other for specific purposes, yet wish to limit access to or by outsiders. It
is an agreement through which the parties concur not to unveil information secured by the assertion. A
NDA makes a classified relationship between the parties to secure any sort of private and exclusive
information or prized formulas. In that capacity, a NDA remedies nonpublic business information.
(Non disclosure agreement, 2015)
Non disclosure is made under the will of the organizations and contracted between no less than two
parties. For the most part, parties comprise of a boss and a worker, however there could be more
unpredictable parties, for example, such as partners, subcontractors or even the Board of the company.
The context are connected changes from job to ensuring privacy of mergers and acquisitions, joint

Practical Considerations
Practical Considerations Examining the practicality of the group parameters is paramount to
delivering the most effective treatment possible. 1. The counseling group is a closed group, as the
formation of bonds, trust, and process of the shared experience is more vulnerable to being disrupted
if the group was open. 2. In addition to the above, each week builds upon the information shared in the
previous week in relation to disclosures and sharing of experiences as well as building upon problem
solving strategies; thus, additional group members later on would arguably detract from the
established levels of trust already developed. 3. The group will meet 2x weekly for 1 hour each

Effects Of The Halo Effect
The contrast effect where it is assumed that the recruiter is not able to delegate his work because he
told them that he is a perfectionist. The contrast effects deals with the fact the you evaluate people by
their characteristics that was observed recentlyduring the interview and now the recruit has been judge
on his comment on his personal character as a perfectionist that heis not good in delegating his work.
This is only a perception and maybe totally not true and this perceptual error could lead to the fact that
this recruit does not get the job.The characteristic of someone that is able to define their weakness is
looked at as a positive attribute of a candidate, and thus recruiters make direct comparisons of
different candidates by directly comparing them on just this one criteria.
The Halo effect affects recruiters perceptions. Because of an avalanche in resumes Worldwide Panel
LLC received for the four vacancies, the officials rejected numerous applicants just by asking them
What is your greatest weakness? . The recruiters formed an overall impression from the applicants
responses and used that impression to bias ratings about them. For example, the one with the answer I

shawls such as these. Her gnarled hands, too worn and creased for a person with a middle aged face

front of Fianna, her back to the other girls, blocking Fianna s view of the market square. For a few

The Accounting Of Territorial Formation
The accountant of the conquest, and the making of what is today Latin America is a debatable subject
in the field of humanities, especially in the field history. The most widespread approaches of this
history are that of violence, war, oppression, possession of territories, and foundation of new colonies.
In Frontier of Possessions, Tamar Herzog, a historian, professor of Latin American presents an
account of the conquest from a different perspective, one that proposes that the acquisition of the
territory of the New World by Spain and Portugal was a result of interactions of many actors that
caused territorial division in both Iberia and the Americas (Herzog, 6). Hence, I conquer that one of
the reasons of the conquest was the desire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under those premises, Herzog steps away from comparative history. And focus at history that look at
the information, in a thematically agreement with specific actors, and arguments, rather that in
sequence, and progression in particular place. From the above mentioned, when analyzing the
territorial division in the Americas is necessary to ponder why the treaties failed? Was not the
Tordecillas treaty, which gave the right to conquest and posses the New World, enough? This question
is very important, and Herzog explores it: the treaty of Tordecillas did not specify a geographical
division; European couldn t agree, and trust their science or modernization. This contradictory
approach is important in the narrative of Frontiers of Possessions; Herzog presents an opposed view to
narrative about the modernity of the Europeans conquerors. It is ironic to think about modernization,
conquest, and possessions of lands when European couldn t trust their own modernity, and yet used it
as a justifiable reason to posses. This comes to show that these groups of people were common people
that possibly did not understood or even care about modernity, but rather possession through different
means. As an illustration, Herzog points out that Spaniard and Portuguese did not bother about linear
or zonal classification of the land.

Following him into the room were two men, one dark skinned and one light. The black man was
named Leroy, the white man was named Harold. Leroy had a dark blue trench coat which often times

a grey suit and grey striped tie to match. Leroy was bald, his face significantly scarred. He menacingly
scanned the room, moving about to inspect every corner. Harold on the other hand couldn t be
bothered to turn his head. He stood directly behind his boss and never seemed to move much at all.

The autobiography of Booker T Washington titled Up From Slavery is a rich narrative of his life from
slavery to one of the most influential motivational speakers, educators, visionaries , founder and

Being born a slave, he understood hunger, hardship, grueling physical labor and prejudice.
Washington was blessed with a gift of wisdom. He fulfilled a childhood dream of making the world a
better place. Mr. Washington was born between 1858 and 1859 on a plantation in Franklin County,
Virginia. And lived in a dirt floor one room cabin with his mother and two siblings John and Amanda.
His childhood was not your normal childhood, after all he was born a slave, and labored early in the
day into the night like everyone else on the plantation. There was no frolicking for him, or happy fond
memories of breakfast or dinners around the table, meals were often eaten straight out of the pot much
like a trough for the animals. Schooling for him was not part of his life or any slave, to be able to
attend school would have been a beautiful dream much like how he imagined heaven would be. After
the war the family moved to Malden W. Virginia with their stepfather, whom they hardly knew, their
new home was a step down from shanty cabin they lived on the plantation. Here in Malden is where
his education started, he soon learned to recognize the number 18, that was assigned to his stepfathers
in the salt mine. Likewise his mother by a miracle secured his first book, Webster s blue black speller ,
he also was able to attend night school after his shift in the salt mine. He would imagine what it must
have been like to be white, with no limits, stopping you from becoming whoever or whatever you

This simile that Neruda included connects to the meaning of the verse as in the poem affects the reader

Nikki Giovanni s Surveillance
Historically, surveillance came in the form of a watch tower, designed to watch out for danger in order
to protect citizens. In a more recent context, the implementation has evolved now to supervise the
citizens in order to watch out for danger. The modern watch tower does not occupy the same physical
space as its predecessor and does not impress by its height, but rather, impresses by its seemingly
omnipresent eye in all channels of society and its reach into the lives of individuals, but that reach is
only enough to protect very specific dangers. Although mass surveillance portrays itself as proficient

Funeral Rituals In American Culture
Death is not the end.
Dying is an unavoidable part of life. That is mostly why death is not resisted but accepted. Many fear
death and do not want to accept that life will eventually end, even with the promise of meeting their
loved ones that once passed. The fear felt is undoubtedly common, however, the ways in which it is
dealt with are varied and diverse. Death comes in different cultures and is celebrated differently
around the world. Most cultures have specific and meaningful traditions and customs around death.

When someone dies in Mexico, it s uncommon for the family to immediately have them taken to a
funeral home or church. Instead, most families will spend up to 48 hours with the deceased in their

known traditions that Mexico has in regard to its dead is the Day of the Dead. During this time, it is

The Color Legacy in Major Leage Baseball
Before 1947, Major League Baseball had never had a black player, although there were Negro
Leagues. Jackie Robinson broke that. It takes courage and dedication to chase after something you

time Jackie enter the Major Leagues, so the times were tough for him. Jackie did more than just play
baseball; he introduced a whole new way to play the game, with blacks and whites. He did this by
breaking the color barrier and introducing blacks into the Major Leagues, facing discrimination and
showing his true passion for the game, and showing that he was looking to help all African Americans

the harsh discrimination Jackie would get, so Branch held a historic meeting with Jackie, and said the

his first contract. Rickey thought Jackie would be more comfortable playing in Canada for the
Dodgers minor league team, the Montreal Royals. Turns out, Rickey was right. Jackie gained tons of
fans in Canada, and at the end of the season, Jackie led the minor leagues in batting and runs scored.
The Royals also won the minor league pennant that year. In 1947, Jackie Robinson was a Major

Racism had been escalating in the United States since the 19th century. Anxiety between migrant
workers and the white workers had been excessive for years as many bosses forced them to compete
for jobs and land. By 1924, the U.S. government prohibited nearly all immigration from Japan.
Numerous states banned nuptials between white people and people of Asian ancestry. The United
States became full of fear and hatred after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941.
Anxiety of more attacks by the Japanese on their cities, homes, and businesses was especially present
along the Pacific coast of the United States. However, this event did not give the government or the
whites the right to discriminate and violate the rights of loyal hard working Japanese Americans. Prior

the preparation for laying on a new coat of paint and the small repairs that are going to be inevitable

Find out if they are experienced with house painting. Residential painting is very different from

Ask for what materials and paint they are using. Make sure everything is quality. Quality lasts longer

Ask about a warranty! These are worth the money as they often deal with touch ups and other paint

If you have any other concerns such as environmental friendliness then it is up to you to ask pertinent
questions. You are the customer, and you are inquiring about purchasing their services which should

Whenever I see a car wreck, I recall my wreck several years ago that could have very easily cost me

I can still hear the quiet dripping of rain when I awoke on the morning before the accident. The sun
was barely breaking through my window s blinds with a yellow and gold glow when I opened my

their usual routine. After dragging myself out of bed and dressing the part, I headed to the kitchen to

After I had finished eating, I dozed off in the car as I waited for my parents and brother. While I had
not stayed up too late to read the night before, I have never been a morning person, so my mind was

On Monday, October 17th I volunteered to help the American Red Cross and other organizations at
Purnell Swett High School. I was directed to a woman named Priscilla who oversaw a portion of the
outdoor area. Our group was quite diverse. It consisted of young high school and college students,
middle aged parents, some senior citizens, and even a girl who appeared to be no more than nine years
old. Everyone was in good spirits despite the recent tragedy. Our task seemed to be simple enough,
however, we would soon discover it was going to take more planning. We were assigned to the rear of
the school where we would sort through various bags and boxes of donations. Priscilla directed some
of us to carry items to different rooms based on their size and whether the clothes were designed more
males or females, children or adults. As organized piles began to form, these volunteers posted signs
indicating the sizes in those piles. Priscilla asked a different group to take the flat boxes and fold and
tape them to allow packing of the clothes. Another set of people were instructed to write the names of
the recipients on the boxes. The final group, which later consisted of those who completed their share
of the work already, was assigned to fill the boxes with appropriate items and seal them for delivery.
Thanks to the strong leadership skills of Priscilla and the tireless efforts of the volunteers, we were
successful! She was wise to divide our large group into smaller substations.

Explain What Is Meant By St. Augustine Of Hippo
Questions about sin have been the focus of much theological conversation and discussion for the
reason that how one answers them strongly influences the rest of Christian doctrine. Augustine of
Hippo is regarded as one of the most important and well known theologians and philosophers in the
history of the Christian religion. His writings influenced the development of Western Christianity and
Western philosophy. Augustine s faith development recorded in treatises, sermons, and letters

Both Pegasus and Augustine based their teachings off the writings of Paul, to the point that Augustine
discovered what he saw as the essence of Christian faith by reading Romans. The basis of Augustine s
Doctrine of Original Sin stemmed from the thought that original sin was transmitted from generation
to generation through sexual intercourse. The theology of original sin that Augustine articulated in 397
is reflected clearly and repeatedly in Augustine s most famous writing, his Confessions, which he
began to write at the same time, shortly after he became bishop of Hippo. Augustine understood
original sin in that:
. . . all men, born according to nature, are born with sin, that is, without the fear of God, without
confidence towards God and with concupiscence, and that this original disease or flaw is truly a sin,
bringing condemnation and also eternal death to those who are not reborn through baptism and the

in ignorance to the history of their race. For example, when I was growing up, my attentive parents
often took opportunities to teach me about and encouraged me not to sit on the back of a public
transportation bus. Their ideology came from the idea that there were many who fought for, were
imprisoned, and even died for my right to sit anywhere on a public bus. However, I consistently
watched as my African American friends immediately flocked to the back of a bus. I used to mentally
ask myself, Do they not know their history?

The Death Of Ivan Ilyich
Societal Pressure in The Death of Ivan Ilyich According to C.Joybell C, The unhappiest people in this
world are those who care the most about what other people think (Goodreads). I can see this in my life
and also in Leo Tolstoy s The Death of Ivan Ilyich. The main character Ivan Ilyich is dying from and
unknown disease and while suffering finds himself reflecting on his life choices. Ivan consistently
questions himself in the text, such as in his statement What if my life has all been wrong? (775). He
struggles with the idea that his life might have been a waste and that he really did not get to live. Ivan
has always made decisions based off of society s rules and not his own. In fact, he directly quotes this
in the text, It occurred to him that his scarcely perceptible attempts to struggle against what was
considered good by the most highly placed people, those scarcely noticeable impulses which he had
immediately suppressed, might have been the real thing, and all the rest false (776). Ivan Ilyich was
never a man who thought for himself or let alone went off impulse. He always thought about what
people around him would do or think about his decisions. Tolstoy s shows in this novel what can
happen when you live life by your own rules and what can happen when you live by societies rules
such as Ivan Ilyich. He shows that both choices come with major consequences. In this story Ivan
Ilyich had two brothers one older and one younger. The older

The Anxiety Of Anxiety And Hopelessness
Introduction
Hopelessness
Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness are common in people who are unhappy. There are also
some most irritating, annoying and depress feelings that repress individual s skill. Cognitive theory of
depression research has shown that people with depression are struggling with the feelings of
hopelessness instead of people who have no depression (Sacco and Beck, 1995). A sense of
hopelessness reflects a negative view of the outlook. This includes failure, and a persistence of pain
and difficulty, and expectations of personal pleasure, a belief that nothing will get better. Thoughts of
negative self also reflect by hopelessness. Depressed individuals view themselves more
unresponsively, their self esteem suffers, and they have little or no self confidence. They do not
believe they have any control or that they can help themselves to feel better. They may have an urge to
give up and think, What s the use? Research has also indicated that severe hopelessness may be a
forecaster of suicide (Beck, 1987; Fawcett, 1990) Hopelessness is conceptualized as an individual s
negative anticipation regarding the future and it is characterized by negative emotions, pessimistic
expectations, and loss of happiness in life (Beck, Weismann, Lester, and Trexler, 1974; Heliman,
Coffey Lover, Frutos. 2004) Hopelessness is having no expectations of good or success, despondent,
not vulnerable to remedy or cure, incapable of redemption or improvement.

  • 2. The Great Recession Of 2008-9 The Great Recession of 2008 9 was the deepest and longest capitalist economic slump since the Great Depression of 1929 32. The recent financial crisis is known as the Great Recession of 2008 9. Its downturn was sparked by the collapse of the US housing market. In 2006, the prices of home began to rise and the banks began to encourage potential homebuyers to take out larger loans. There were lower interest rates at the time, and this seemed like a good idea for most individuals who were searching for a new home. Then, in mid 2007, the interest rates began to rise. The values of the homes decreased and the amount of money a house was worth declined significantly. Many homeowners were stuck with large loans, increasingly high interest rates, and a decreased price of their home. Many homeowners went into foreclosure or were evicted. This eventually led to large financial institutions and banks to become bankrupt, which lead to an overall fall in the US economy. Stocks dropped, consumer spending declined significantly, and companies began to go out of business (Athanasiu, 43). This financial crisis has impacted the economy tremendously during that period. Businesses have been drastically impacted, as have the lives of workers in the United States. Many articles have been published about different aspects of the recession. One question that has not been completely addressed is how the Great Recession has affected small business and unemployment rates. The reason for addressing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Guilty Media Pleasure Research Paper Week 5: Guilty Media Pleasure Let s face it, we live in a time period where people have more pictures of themselves in one night than our own grandfather did in his entire life. Electronic billboards on the highway read Don t Pokemon and Drive. And the new Declaration of Independence is the never ending articles written about Kylie Jenner s lips. Yes, guys, this is America. This celebrity culture has been tattooed on us ever since our founding fathers were taken over by Beyoncé. It s tiring trying to keep up with Taylor Swift s next boyfriend, but we do it because we are wired into the world of image makers. So, when my friends ask me what classic movie we should watch and I respond, It s A Wonderful Life, you could say an eye roll is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is not just another Christmas movie or American classic; this is a story of how wonderful life is. This is a story of embracing the little acts of kindness to help others that I find comforting. Maybe George Bailey didn t have an education, but he knew what love was. And he surely didn t leave a name for himself, except friend. No, George Bailey did not find himself, but he found the people who love him and need him. He wanted to throw his life away until he found how precious and valuable he is with the amount of lives he touched. Life is about giving away your time, energy and love for other s sake. We realize how important one s life is and how much one can impact us. The bigger, faster, louder, up to date millennials might complain this movie is overrated, cheesy, and clearly not up to date. I know this movie has no color, no fast paced action or high definition appearances, but it states a simple message. It s a Wonderful Life doesn t win the award of being the highest rated movie featuring the best known celebrities, but it exemplifies a loving message that reminds us to appreciate ... • 4. Elementary Dual Language Program At Lincoln Elementary School I observed a 3rd grade dual language program at Lincoln Elementary School in Blue Island, Illinois. The philosophy of the program is to provide a well rounded educational foundation that supports children s academic, physical, and emotional growth, success, and commitment to others. They believe that if they can create a community in the classrooms, have high expectations for all students, and nurture their native language as well as their second language, the students will be successful. • 5. Assignment Questions On Computer Systems Essay Assignment 1 Computer Systems Processor (CPU) The Central processing unit (CPU) is where all the calculations take place within the computer system. The CPU connects directly to a socket on the motherboard. The processor is responsible for carrying out instructions (programs), it can take inputs from input devices such as a keyboard or mouse, and then use this to create an output to be displayed on a monitor or for printing. Motherboard The motherboard contains the basic circuitry, and many of the components connect to it. The motherboard is responsible of allocating the power, supplied by the PSU, to the other components connected to the board. It also allows the different components within the computer system to communicate to each other and send information around. The motherboard also houses all of the ports that go on the back panel of the pc. Power Supply The power supply, or Power Supply Unit (PSU), is the component that supplies power to the components of the computer system. It does this by converting the AC current from the mains socket do DC current. The power supply is also capable of regulating the voltage that the computer system receives this helps to avoid any abnormal spikes of high voltage that could damage, or destroy components of the computer. PSU s are rated by the number of watts that they generate. Cooling (E.g. Fan, Heatsink) The purpose of any cooling device is to draw the heat away from the components within a computer system ... • 7. Robert H. Clancy s Un-American Bill An Un American Bill : A Congressman Denounces Immigration Quotes Robert H. Clancy, an American congressman, gave a speech on April 8th, 1924 against the Johnson Reed Act after World War 1. He presents his speech with a compelling and passionate tone to Congress. He emphasized the harsh, discriminative atmosphere people with a line of foreigners lived with in America. Clancy establishes an argument of extreme and unjust racial discrimination against foreigners in America with touching anecdotes and personal experiences, riveting graphic images, and powerful diction, proving his points with ease. Clancy contrived a glorious amount of anecdotes to share with Congress back in 1924. As Clancy explains, I learned more of the spirit of American history at my mother s knee than I ever learned in my four years of high school study of American history and in my five and a half years of study at the great University of Michigan (Clancy, 3). • 10. What Is The Theme Of Society In Fahrenheit 451 As society progresses, technology and customs often progress proportionally. Social customs, and the way a group of people function as a whole are often altered by significant events or a change in societal variables. Occasionally, this leads to situations in which certain facets of society begin to drastically differ from their original form. Take for example, the abolition of slavery in the United States in 1865. Slavery had been a vastly unchallenged component of American society until that point (excluding the period of abolition efforts). When this changed, the government had to implement a number of laws that reversed prior legislation concerning slavery. In many ways, Ray Bradbury s fictional society in his dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451 mirrors this by presenting a repressive community in which many factors contribute to mass apathy and a passive state of perpetual passive occupation. Social contact is central to human happiness, but as our technology increases in its proficiency, there tends to be a disconnect in interpersonal contact. This feature of society is predicted 64 years ahead of time, and is highlighted frequently throughout the book, manifested in Mildred s ear seashells and talking walls for entertainment. On a walk with Montag, Clarisse mentions that she is often ostracized from her peers due to her antisocial tendencies. • 11. Irony And The Paradoxes Of War By Wilfred Owen Irony is an important literary device wherein what appears to be true is radically different from what actually happens. Wilfred Owen has used this technique in many of his poems to effectively convey the paradoxes of war. The use of irony isn t surprising as there was a stark difference between what the soldiers were told about war and what actually happened during war and their experiences. Through his irony in his poems, during the World War I, Owen expressed what so many people felt about the war. As the war continued they realized that they were lied to and were misled by war propaganda, but in reality the war was very brutal and different indeed. However ideally a young boy is supposed to be given an option to what he wants to become when he grows up. Unfortunately these boys are forced to become soldier even though they aren t old enough. The first line, which starts with an imperative word, Let the boy try along this bayonet blade delineates this. Even though it seems that they get an option to try , they don t really have one. As try would indicate that they could check to see if it is their cup to tea, however when they are given the bayonet blade and sent to war there is no trial. You either survive the war or you die and hence the term try is ironic as the war is inevitably enforced upon them. The subtle tone and euphemistic language, which portrays a suggestion, is used to show that the boy is given weapons and emphasis the cynicism present. In like manner the opening of the second stanza, Lend him to stroke these blind, blunt bullet leads , elucidates that the speakers continues to give commands and is ironic as no boy that is lent to war ever comes back home. Therefore you aren t lending them and rather giving them up to war. The alliteration present in this line, which is, blind blunt bullet , emphasis the viciousness of the weapons through the harsh pronunciation of the letter b . This depicts the fact that it is impossible to get away from the thirst of the weapons as the bullets just kill blindly and death is assured when you join the war, hence mocking the use of the words Lend him as you aren t going to get him ... In comparison with internal combustion vehicles (ICV), EVs offer highly efficient energy usage (around three times as efficient as an ICV), zero emissions and low noise level, aspects that are necessary to improve the quality of life in urban areas. According to the latest IEA report, global electric car stock surpassed 2 million vehicles in 2016. However, electric vehicles still only account for 0.2 per cent of all the cars in the world [ ]. In spite of this, there are still a number of barriers to be overcome in order to increase demand for EVs. The major obstacles are: the limited driving range, high investment costs, compared to ICV, the slow recharging time and the resistance to innovation. [ ]. Thomas Franke Josef F. Krems [ ] present an excellent literature review of driving range needs of vehicles in several countries. Pearre et al. The community is built mostly on landfill made of soil and rock excavated during the construction of The World Trade Center. Geographically, the area is surrounded by the Financial District on the southeastern side, Tribeca on the northeastern side, and by the Hudson River on the west side. Named for its historic park, Battery Park actually did not exist 50 years ago. The park itself got its name in 1623, when early Dutch settlers landed and placed battery cannons in order to protect the land. In the 1800 s, the land was mostly used as an immigration center. Once Ellis Island was established as an alternate immigration center in 1892, Battery Park lost its role. Battery Park contained many shipping piers, which latter lost its purpose with the creation of air travel. By the 1950 s, many private firms proposed that the area be reconstructed through landfill, which governor Nelson Rockefeller agreed with. The Accounting Of Territorial Formation The accountant of the conquest, and the making of what is today Latin America is a debatable subject in the field of humanities, especially in the field history. The most widespread approaches of this history are that of violence, war, oppression, possession of territories, and foundation of new colonies. In Frontier of Possessions, Tamar Herzog, a historian, professor of Latin American presents an account of the conquest from a different perspective, one that proposes that the acquisition of the territory of the New World by Spain and Portugal was a result of interactions of many actors that caused territorial division in both Iberia and the Americas (Herzog, 6). From the above mentioned, when analyzing the territorial division in the Americas is necessary to ponder why the treaties failed? Was not the Tordecillas treaty, which gave the right to conquest and posses the New World, enough? This question is very important, and Herzog explores it: the treaty of Tordecillas did not specify a geographical division; European couldn t agree, and trust their science or modernization. This contradictory approach is important in the narrative of Frontiers of Possessions; Herzog presents an opposed view to narrative about the modernity of the Europeans conquerors. It is ironic to think about modernization, conquest, and possessions of lands when European couldn t trust their own modernity, and yet used it as a justifiable reason to posses. This comes to show that these groups of people were common people that possibly did not understood or even care about modernity, but rather possession through different means. In a more recent context, the implementation has evolved now to supervise the citizens in order to watch out for danger. The modern watch tower does not occupy the same physical space as its predecessor and does not impress by its height, but rather, impresses by its seemingly omnipresent eye in all channels of society and its reach into the lives of individuals, but that reach is only enough to protect very specific dangers. I can see this in my life and also in Leo Tolstoy s The Death of Ivan Ilyich. The main character Ivan Ilyich is dying from and unknown disease and while suffering finds himself reflecting on his life choices. Ivan consistently questions himself in the text, such as in his statement What if my life has all been wrong? (775). He struggles with the idea that his life might have been a waste and that he really did not get to live. Ivan has always made decisions based off of society s rules and not his own. In fact, he directly quotes this in the text, It occurred to him that his scarcely perceptible attempts to struggle against what was considered good by the most highly placed people, those scarcely noticeable impulses which he had immediately suppressed, might have been the real thing, and all the rest false (776). Ivan Ilyich was never a man who thought for himself or let alone went off impulse. He always thought about what people around him would do or think about his decisions. • 43. The Anxiety Of Anxiety And Hopelessness Introduction Hopelessness Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness are common in people who are unhappy. There are also some most irritating, annoying and depress feelings that repress individual s skill. Cognitive theory of depression research has shown that people with depression are struggling with the feelings of hopelessness instead of people who have no depression (Sacco and Beck, 1995). A sense of hopelessness reflects a negative view of the outlook. This includes failure, and a persistence of pain and difficulty, and expectations of personal pleasure, a belief that nothing will get better. Thoughts of negative self also reflect by hopelessness. Depressed individuals view themselves more unresponsively, their self esteem suffers, and they have little or no self confidence. They do not believe they have any control or that they can help themselves to feel better. They may have an urge to give up and think, What s the use? Research has also indicated that severe hopelessness may be a forecaster of suicide (Beck, 1987; Fawcett, 1990) Hopelessness is conceptualized as an individual s negative anticipation regarding the future and it is characterized by negative emotions, pessimistic expectations, and loss of happiness in life (Beck, Weismann, Lester, and Trexler, 1974; Heliman, Coffey Lover, Frutos. 2004) Hopelessness is having no expectations of good or success, despondent, not vulnerable to remedy or cure, incapable of redemption or improvement.
