The Defense Of The Insanity Defense
The insanity defense has been used in several cases in criminal law. This defense basically states
that the accused cannot be held responsible for what he/she did because they had no control over
their actions. Many times the defense attorney will plea for a deal that the defendant be sent to a
mental rehabilitation center for proper treatment. When using this defense the defense attorney will
argue that there may be a chemical imbalance in his brain therefore he had no idea what he was
doing at the time.
In my opinion the insanity defense should not exist because many of the people accused just use to
get out of their justified sentence. Daniel M Naghten was a woodworker who believed he was the
target of a conspiracy involving the pope ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this is because so many people were using this defense to get out of being in trouble and later
being sentenced. In many cases involving the insanity defense the defense attorney will raise the
point that there is a chemical imbalance in his head, basically stating that he had no control over
himself at the time that he did the act of violence.
Monte Durham was a 23 year old who had been in and out of prison and mental institutions since
he was 17. He was convicted for housebreaking in 1953, and his attorney appealed. Although the
district court judge had ruled that Durham s attorneys had failed to prove he didn t know the
difference between right and wrong, the federal appellate judge chose to use the case to reform the
McNaughton rule. Citing leading psychiatrists and jurists of the day, the appellate judge stated that
the McNaughton rule was based on an entirely obsolete and misleading conception of the nature of
insanity. He overturned Durham s conviction and established a new rule. The Durham rule states
that an accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of mental disease
or mental defect. The Durham rule was eventually rejected by the federal courts, because it cast
too broad a net. Alcoholics, compulsive gamblers, and drug addicts had successfully used the
defense to defeat a wide variety of crimes. (Legal information institute, Cornell university law
school). This is an example of how the insanity

Espionage Act Pros And Cons
In 1919, the Supreme Court had justified the cause of clear and present danger . This was exercised
relating to Charles Schenck releasing thousands of flyers to American servicemen recently drafted
to fight in World War I. The flyers described the draft as being involuntary servitude . The flyer
states that the government had no right to send American citizens to other countries to kill people.
It also mentioned that the war itself was motivated by capitalist greed, and urged draftees to petition
for repeal of the draft. Since this event Schenck was charged because of the recently enacted
Espionage Act. This act made any utterance that was considered disloyal toward the U.S.
government, the Constitution, or the military completely illegal. Schenck responded that the
Espionage Act violated the First Amendment of the Constitution. The Constitutional issue within
this court case was that it violated the 1st amendment, given the freedom of speech. But everyone
else would argue back that the 1917 Espionage Act was already in place. But this too would be
unconstitutional. Against this test, the Court upheld the Espionage Act and affirmed Schenck s
conviction, finding that his speech had created a clear and present danger of insubordination in
wartime.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The court completely understood that Schenck wanted to ruin the draft. The court would also
argue back that you need to limit your freedoms, this might include not screaming fire! when there
isn t a fire present. While these flyers are just flyers, they can have a huge impact how on the
result of the war and later on the economy. He was found guilty with the District court. The
decision, in addition to sending Charles Schenck to jail for six

MIDTERM TAKE HOME EXAM
FT. MYERS ELDERCARE (CASE NO. 9 898 041)
1. Has Dana done a good job researching his options?
While Dana did not consider the site potential of other property types, he did a good job researching
his options for eldercare facilities. His analysis included regional analysis (comparing other cities
and counties to Fort Myers), population trends, Fort Myers healthcare statistics, industry and
competitor analysis (by viewing a consultant report), financing alternatives and financial analysis.
Together, the information provided a thorough overview of his options within eldercare.
2. How do congregate care and assisted living facilities differ?

Assisted Living Facility: While a longer term investment with rental income and no sales in the
short term, the assisted living option provided a profitable opportunity given Fort Myers
demographics. It would be cheaper and most likely faster to build compared to congregate housing
and had a large market in Fort Myers.
While it is probably not feasible to capture the full potential gross income from a congregate care
facility given the higher price and time to sell, tables 1 and 2 below attempt to compare the PGI
in the first year of rent/sale from a congregate care and assisted living facility. If all units were
sold within the first year (which is highly unlikely), a congregate care facility would provide
more cash upfront with a smaller amount of monthly income moving forward. However, the
assisted living facility has a higher annual PGI after the first year. Ideally, assuming a market was
available for congregate care, it would take roughly 20 years for the income from assisted living to
reach the income received from congregate care.

The New York City Water System
Alicia Blake
Environmental Chemistry Term Paper
Final Draft

The New York City Water System Then and Now
New York City has one of the most top quality drinking water and is called the champagne of
drinking water [13] which is due to its unique water treatment system that consists of a vast
reservoir system. A reservoir is a natural or artificial source of untreated water that can be found
underground or at ground level that can include water treatment and associated equipment (pumps
and piping systems).[1] There are three major watershed systems in which New York receives its
water which are The Croton System, The Catskill System, The Delaware System. The reservoir
systems pump approximately 1.1 billion gallons of fresh and clean ... Show more content on

Further population increase and the expansion of New York City to include five boroughs
amplified the need for more clean water circulation. In order to find new water sources the
Board of Water Supply built facilities in four watersheds that is now known as the Catskill
System (which includes the Ashokan Reservoir and Catskill Aqueduct). The Delaware System
was fully constructed in 1944 which receives water from the Delaware River tributary. Located in
current day New York Public Library there once housed one of NYC s main water supply systems
called the Croton Reservoir (Murray hill reservoir). Built in 1842 in a style of an Egyptian Cornice
it had an area of four acres and held a capacity of 20 million gallons. As a result increases in
population between 1840 and 1870 other reservoir system were built in place of the Croton
Reservoir and it was shut down in 1890.[4]
NYC Reservoirs today
The NYC drinking water system is gravity driven and is sourced from 19 reservoirs and three
controlled lakes in a 1,972 sq mi watershed and has a storage capacity of roughly 580 billion
gallons.[5] During drought water is exchanged from one water system to the other.
The Croton System has 12 reservoirs and three controlled lakes that are positioned in Westchester,
Putnam and Duchess Counties. The newest Croton Reservoir

Le Guin A Perfect Society
Le Guin suggests a perfect society can exist for the majority, but only if we are willing to ignore
the suffering of a few. I think that Le Guin is wrong. If you are suffering then it s not a utopia for
you, and you are part of the society, so the society is not perfect. In this paper I will tell you about
how Le Guin short story is a metaphor of how people use others to get what they want and to be
happy, but they don t care about the person they are hurting.
Le Guin describes a society that seems utopian. In the short story it states, They were not simple
folk, you see, though they were happy. The society was always happy. Not one person is sad in that
city, unless you count the child under the city, but we will get into that later. Another example of
how the city is utopian is that everyone is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the own, Omelas the author has it set up as an utopia where everyone is naked and happy, but
the only reason why this is, is because there is always one child underneath the city always
suffering. The child is known as it and is usually someone that is born with a defect. The door is
always locked. It doesn;t know how to speak and no one speaks to it. When the people go to
give it food they never look at it, just kick it to make it stand up. Give it food. And leave. It
screams night on end, but no one cares. No one cares that it has sores all over its body because it
sleeps on the hard, cold, dirt. No one cares about it. Why? Because as long as it is suffering, then
they can be happy. If the child is not suffering then the city can not be perfect. Everyone knows
about the child. Everyone has to go see it. And some do not go home, but walk and walk and
walk till they are out of the city. SO the question is, would you be one of those people who
walked away from the city? Or would you continue to live in the city and be happy on the accord
of one child suffering for their whole

Evaluating The Current Incremental Budgeting System
1.1 Executive Summary This report reviews the company s current incremental budgeting system,
explores the beyond budgeting approach and looks at the alternative flexible methods available. In
Summary, although the managing director could continue to use the incremental system, it is
recommended that an Activity Based Costing strategy is adopted. Although the current incremental
method is simple and easy to understand, it has many drawbacks making it unsuitable for today s
economic environment. 1.2 Objectives Taking into consideration the current economic climate, to
investigate how beneficial a beyond budgeting approach would be, in regards to flexibility and
financial control of the business. To also explore the possibility of adopting an Activity Based
Costing system and the benefits it would bring to the company. Lastly, after reviewing the benefits
and shortcomings of all three methods of budgeting, determine which method is the most suitable
for the managing director. 1.3 Background to budgeting The process of budgeting is one of the
most important management tools available to a business, particularly in today s current economic
climate. It serves three major purposes; coordinating activities and tasks, motivating employees and
allows for forecasting of future developments and events in order to prepare for the future of the
business effectively (Weber, 2005). 2.1 Incremental Budgeting According to M.M Ibrahim and R.A

Statistically, he probably does. Men need to understand the concept of cheating thoroughly. Men
want to have sex with as many attractive women as possible and women want, ultimately, have a
man committed to her emotionally and sexually, excluding all other women. Biology dictates both
wants and society enforces and enables both sexes to achieve these wants. When I mention
women in this article, I do not necessarily include modern women . That is, women who are
financially independent and do not have nor feel the need to depend on men for anything. I ll be
first to admit that our society is rapidly changing and a lot of this article will be generalities.
Generalities, but ultimately, the undeniable truth. Its your choice as a man as to how you view your
relationships with women. For, the curious, yes I ve cheated plenty.

middle age. Most men can produce healthy sperm too the day their heart stops beating. No
biological clock for males. Biology naturally dictates that he impregnate as many healthy females as
possible. Thousands of years ago, man spread his seed freely, without the spectre of cheating

Maggie A Girl Of The Streets Escapism
In Stephen Crane s Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, the grim and realistic details of life in the
Bowery during the 1890s is depicted. Maggie, Jimmie, Mary, and Pete all have different means
of temporarily escaping the challenges they face. Alcohol, apathy, entertainment, denial, violence,
and blame are some of the forms of escapism they rely on. Throughout Maggie, each character s
methods of escapism correlate to his or her ability to survive life in the Bowery. Pete is
constantly seeking the best opportunity for himself. He begins to talk to Maggie because she is
one of the prettiest girls in the Bowery, and easy to win over. However, when Nellie returns and
begins to show interest in Pete, he immediately leaves Maggie for the more appealing woman. This
prompt dismissal of Maggie shows that Pete is apathetic and uninterested in assisting others with
their plights. Pete s selfish attitude allows him to gain exactly what he desires in any situation that

all members involved in the fights. Jimmie gains nothing from the fights. Because they always end
in a draw, Jimmie s social standing is not affected. The fights solely serve the purpose of allowing

Theme Of Women In Othello And The Duchess Of Malfi
In the Elizabethan era what were the requirements for women and what made them ideal wives? I
want to focus on the two main wives in Othello and The Duchess of Malfi both characters are being
judged for being impure and unmoral. Desdemona and the Duchess diverge from each other
because they have very different attitudes toward the men in the plays. The men in their lives try to
impose upon them which finally drive them to their deaths. Society and men expected women to be
submissive and chaste characters but the Duchess really proves them wrong making a statement on
how wives shouldn t be alabaster statues kneeling at their husbands tombs. Portraying Desdemona
as more of the traditional Elizabethan wifewhich obeys and the Duchess being more of the strong
and free feminine symbol. Women in this plays are seen as mere objects or property of men and
expected to be chaste, obedient and silent spectators of what men would do through the play. So
when this female characters step out of this labels and fight against the power that marginalize them
as subjects they usually end up forced into marriage, muted and dead. In this period braking these
social barriers by self making and voicing your opinion as a women was resisted in society, this
could only be done by the queen. Desdemona was bold enough to go against social norms and
challenged her family and married a Moor, Othello. But she is still seen a good wife because she
follows Othello to Cyprus where she remains

Comparison Of Blockbuster And Independent Films
In this essay, I will elaborate on the coexistence of blockbuster and independent films in America
with emphasis on independent film making concentrating on the similarities and differences
portrayed.
Co existence
The explosion of independent films in America started in the mid 80s due to the lack of creative
niche films after the reorganization of the Hollywood studio systems. During this era, the big
Hollywood studio system ran like a Ford Production plant systemized and standardized, pumping
out action themed big budget blockbuster films one after another targeted for Americas widest
audience of young kids and teenagers. By doing so, they left an untapped market or void that was
eventually filled by the independent filmmakers comprised of a group of upcoming women and
African Americans who produced movies on very low budgets that spoke about social issues and
injustices for the common people.
Independent Film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The films produced by the indie auteurs are classified as niche films. These types of films were
usually produced by filmmakers who did not fit the current Hollywood culture during the time
as women and people of color were minimally employed to say the least. Niche films are focused
on specific demographics and therefore are significantly less profitable due to the smaller yet
loyal fan base. Unlike the 70 s, when auteur pictures backed by studio money and muscle were top
grossing films, in the 80s and 90s the audience for even the most compelling independent auteur
pictures was significantly smaller. (Lewis) For instance, due to the lack of funding and smaller
target audiences the well known indie films of the eighties and early nineties made only 1/100th of
the average blockbuster at the

Structural Vulnerabilities And Link Privacy
Structural vulnerabilities and Link Privacy in Social Networks
Introduction/Background:
In social networks, a link represents a relationship between two nodes in the network. These links
can represent email conversations, web surfing, co purchases of two or more products (e.g.
Amazon), friendships (e.g. Facebook), followers (e.g. Twitter), etc. Often times these relationships
are sensitive and/or confidential in nature [ying wu] and the users are operating under the
assumption that their private relationships will not be disclosed.
In recent years the amount of data accumulated from social networks has become very large, and
there is a lot of valuable information to gain from analyzing and applying data mining to social
network data. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Neighborhood Randomization Using Sub Graph Perturbation
In order for people to mine valuable data from social network graphs they must first be given
information about the network. Even without explicit information about the nodes, an attacker
may use structural information about the nodes and graph itself (e.g. node degree) to identify
who the individuals are that the nodes represent. Simple graph wise randomization addresses this
problem by deleting k randomly chosen edges and replacing them with k randomly chosen edges,
however a problem arises since data miners depend on these structural attributes to properly
analyze the social network. Fard and Wang [fard wang] propose a structure aware algorithm for
the randomization of social network edges as well as a formal definition of link privacy with
respect to a probabilistic threshold. Their motivation is to help conceal sensitive links by using
randomization techniques, without disturbing the actual structure of the graph, which is achieved
through local neighborhood perturbation. This is needed so that graphs can be analyzed without
the link structure being left entirely vulnerable to attackers. The goal of their algorithm is to make
it so that an adversary cannot know if a link in the original graph exists from having a link in the
new graph.
Problem definition: Given a

Human Resource Management And How Does It Affect An...
One would ask the question, What is Human Resource Management and how does it affect an
organization? According to Management Study Guide (n.d.), human resource management is the
practice of managing individuals in an organization through an organized and systematic method.
Human resource management affects an organization by executing the procedures and policies and
warranting that the complaints of employees are taken care of. Given the different roles taken on
by the human resource management, it is vital to the attainment of an organization. Today, we will
be looking at three different ways in which human resource managementaffects an organization.
One, look at how human resource management influence an organizational performance. Next, I
will be sharing information on organizational culture, and then the practices of human resource
management in an organization. First, taking a look at how HRM influences organizational
performances. According to authors Phillips, J and Gully, S., human resource management policies
and practices add value to organization and influences organizational performances by either
improving efficiencies or contributing to revenue growth. This is to say that the effectiveness of
human resource management in an organization has the ability to bring about change, meet the
organizations goals, and be able to expand workers commitment, energy and accomplishments.
Another way HRM can influence an organization is through its talent philosophy.

A Middle Manager Within A Large Government Agency

I am actually a middle manager in one of the county agencies. In my line of work there are many

collective power and it should come not only from others but also from within individuals.
Empowerment is a new style of power that requires participatory management and shared

Gender Stereotypes In The Film Philadelphia
Question #3 In the movie Philadelphia, Andy s dismissal from the law firm was primarily based
on fear. The members of the firm held several assumptions, the first being that all homosexual
men are attracted to every man they come into contact with. The members of the firm realized in
retrospect that they spent a lot of personal time with Andy, including moments in the steam room,
in which members even exchanged homophobic jokes. This issue was aggressively addressed
during Andy s trial. His lawyer, Joe Miller, confronted the jurors and defendants assumptions
about gay men by asking about their sexual preference. Other stereotypes portrayed in the movie
that attributed to Andy s dismissal were in regards to HIV/AIDS. As discussed in class, the
movie was indicative of the early years after AIDS was discovered. Inconsistencies with how the
disease was spread, and who most susceptible, generated a distrustful and guarded population.

discomfort was visible during the first several meetings with Andy. I believe that he chose to

against injustice by this powerful firm comprised of all white men. His decision to support Andy
s case was initially based on principle of wrong doing, that is, dismissal due to discrimination,
which he no doubt was subject to in his personal life and career. While it was difficult for him to

Religion In The Ramayana
Religion in the Ramayana plays a key role in the plot. Religious principles such as Karma and
Dharma, and the act of prayer all have an impact on the characters in the epic. In the Ramayana,
religion influences the roles of the characters and the challenges they face throughout the story.
Karma has an impact on the characters in the Ramayanaas this principle in religion leads to the
death of important characters; Karma not only has a negative impact, but it has a positive impact
too. An example of bad karma causing death is Vali. Through a misunderstanding with his brother

Ravana uses prayer to gain power; With this power, he attempts to destroy all worlds and
enslave the gods. The ten headed Ravana and his brothers have acquired from us extraordinary
powers through austerities and prayers, and now they threaten to destroy our worlds and
enslave us (Narayan 4). Ravana is impacted by prayer as he uses this to gain powerful weapons
from the gods. This impacts his life as he misuses the power and the gods need to stop him. This
also impacts Rama as he incarnated because of this. Without the use of prayer to the gods in the
Ramayana, Rama would not exist and Ravana would not have the powerful weapons he does.
The gods need to stop Ravana before the worlds are destroyed and Vishnu creates a plan. The
gods gather and create a plan to have Vishnu incarnate as Rama to kill Ravana. Whereupon
Vishnu promised, Ravana can be destroyed only by a human being since he has never asked for
protection against a human being. I shall incarnate as Dasaratha s son (Narayan 4). Ravana not
only gains power through prayer, but the gods find a solution in what he does not pray for. If
Ravana prays for protection from humans, Rama is not incarnated because Vishnu cannot kill him
as a human. Therefore, without Ravana s prayer to the gods, Rama is not present in the epic.

Friedrich Nietzsche s Philosophy And Ethics
The Antichrist
Samuel Edwards
Central Christian College
May 6, 2016 Abstract: Friedrich Nietzsche devoted his life to the study of philosophy and ethics. In
particular to topics regarding Christianity and Atheism. A majority of his writings are against
Christianity and The Antichrist is no different. The following paper will look into what Nietzsche
wrote in The Antichrist and explore the ethical principles that he proposes and dismisses in this
writing. The Antichrist is a collection of Friedrich Nietzsche writings that were put together by his
niece shortly after his death. She wrote an opening preface before his collection of writings that
explain her desire for publishing the writings and defending his standpoint. In her opening
statements, which were approximately 20% of the entire book, she made some claims about
Nietzsche, his writings, and his beliefs. She states that Nietzsche ...intended to attack Christianity
headlong and with all arms... and that All his wrath... was reserved for St. Paul and his like, who
perverted the Beatitudes which Christ intended for the lowly only. Despite saying this Nietzsche
staid that he never set out to destroy Christianity all together, so that the lowly and unintelligent
would still have an outlet. But to destroy Christianity for the intellectuals and the scholars. Oddly
enough he set out to ...make Paul the villain, and Jesus a bystander. ( After the introduction by his
niece a collection of 62 essays are arranged

Structuralism And Post-Structuralism In Language
Structuralism originated in the works of Ferdinand de Saussure, a Swiss linguist in the 20th
century. An attempt to study a specific whole as a complex system of interrelated parts, it soon
came to be applied to many other fields. Structuralism is closely related to Semiotics and Saussure
focused on the underlying system of language, langue instead of the use of language. Yet, the
discovery of langue is possible only with an examination of parole, speech. Apart from favouring
the synchronic development of language over the diachronic version, he also asserts that linguistic
signs consist of a signifier and a signified. Hence, this approach is different from those that focus on
the relationships between words and the objects they implicate.... Show more content on

However, Post Structuralist writing is emotive. Such texts will tend to be euphoric, urgent and
flashy.
The general notion of Structuralism is that the world is constructed by language. It is only through
linguistics, that reality is envisioned. In contrast, Post Structuralism argues that realities are created
by languages. All aspects of human experience become textual and everything one thinks of, be it
about self or the world, depends on language.
Both Structuralism and Post Structuralism arise from Saussure s linguistic theory and so,
emphasize on language. In this way, there are identical. Moreover, both accept language as a system
of signs that exists separately from any physical or mental reality. Similarly, Structuralism and Post
Structuralism will also together acknowledge that a subject is possible only through language.
Hence, language overrides humans as the source of action and meaning and so, Structuralism and
Post Structuralism are non humanistic [5]. Structuralism is deterministic as all power to structure
one s perceptions lie with the system. Hence, Structuralism is, in particular, anti humanist

Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Theme Essay
The theme of the book is basically good vs evil and split personality. Mr Utterson tries to solve
the case of Dr Jekyll s will that s linking to the mysterious man Mr Hyde. No one in London
knows who Mr Hyde is, and the few people who saw him described him as weird and slightly
deformed . In the first chapter, Mr Utterson said Mr Hyde is Not easy to describe . And that there
is something wrong with his appearance; something displeasing, something downright
detestable , and He must be deformed somewhere; he gives a strong feeling of deformity,
although I couldn t specify the point. He s an extraordinary looking man . Dr Jekyll, on the
other hand, is a wealthy rich man in London and is well liked, respectable doctor. The two seems

The Dangers of Underage Drinking
Teens under the legal minimum age of alcohol should not drink, nor should it be lowered.
Researchers say that giving alcoholic beverages under 21 could create a lethal addiction and would
not have the responsibility to drink. If teens drink a certain amount of alcohol it could be lethal by
alcohol poisoning. Alcoholcan enter the blood stream; binge drinkers can ingest a fatal dose of
alcohol before passing out. ( Binge Drinking Can Be Fatal ). The legal minimum age should not be
lowered, teens under 21 don t have the responsibility to get intoxicated and those include car
accidents, homicides, suicides, and other injuries. I m going to tell you why minors should not

First of all, alcohol is a depressant, in other words it controls how slow your body functions. It
could alter with a person s movement, emotions, and vision. Alcohol impedes messages that your
brain is trying to receive. You are more relaxed depending on how much you drink. The more you
drink the more intoxicated you are and the more sick feeling you could get. Depending on the
person, you could either be an angry, friendly or maybe a sad drunk, making you act not yourself.
When you drink, you react to things slower, that s why people should not drive intoxicated.
Consuming too much alcohol in a short period of time can have a result of alcohol poisoning; the
first symptom is usually vomiting. Resulting more symptoms such as extreme fatigue, difficulty
breathing, low blood sugar, unconsciousness, or even death. Furthermore, there are aftereffects,
known as a hangover, in other terms, it s what happens after heavy drinking. An alcohol
withdrawal can usually happen after just four or five drinks to get a hangover, which typically
happens several hours after your last drink. These symptoms include headaches, nausea, fatigue,
muscle pain, or mild anxiety. When teenagers do use alcohol they may not just be affecting their
brain for that night or weekend, but for the next 80 years of their life. ( Henry Wechsler, PhD and
Bernice Wuethrich ).

concept could be applied to any area that would be taught in the eighth grade.
b. The learner will identify significant events, people, and documents in the major eras of United
States history.
c. This selected activity would work well for this content because it will allow the students to
explore different areas of a topic to help finish the puzzle. My thoughts are that this would be an
ongoing project that might take several days, weeks, or even the entire year as the students
explore United States history. My vision for this activity is to use puzzle pieces that are color
coded. One specific color for who, what, where, when, why, and how. The start of any puzzle
column could be any color and will be created by either the teacher or the student. The students and
teachers will then finish the puzzle column with as many different puzzle colors that are possible
that will help to explain the original puzzle piece. For instance, I might start with a who puzzle
piece with the name Rosa Parks. The students would then search that person to find how further
information to place on connecting color coded puzzle pieces. Another start might be a what with
Stamp Act written on it. The students would then find out further information to finish the puzzle.

How Did The American Slave Trade Affect The West Indies

The Unbelievable, Unethical CIA Mind Control Experiments
The Unbelievable, Unethical CIA Mind Control Experiments
The CIA s, the Central Intelligence Agency, duty is to provide national intelligence to U.S
President and officials. The CIA created a top secret experiment to try and control people s mind.
According to the CIA s file, MK ULTRA/Mind Control Experiments , which started in 1953 and
continued to 1964. The main goal for this project was to to brainwash people and reprogram their
minds. At first, the CIA denied of doing such thing, but later on admitted that they have done mind
control experiments on nonvoluntary people. Although, they said that they have stopped
completely since then. If the CIA has done brutal experiments like MK Ultra, what other
experiments have they done on people without their consents? Are we sure that the CIA

disastrous effects on people s health. This experiment was truly wrong, unnecessary, and
unconstitutional.
The CIA were influenced by other countries to experiment on brainwashing people but resulted in

were afraid during the Cold War that the Russians and Chinese had already developed weapons in

thought they could use brainwashing to their advantage and also create manchurian candidates. In

Symbolism In The Lamb And The Tyger By William Blake

differences in both old age and infancy, expressing the importance of human growth by alluding to
the correlation between humanlife and the renaissance of nature. In addition, Blake creates a
contrast with this joyful concept by conveying the negative aspects of wisdom and moreover,
experience. Furthermore, the Romantic Age is represented through many concepts presented in
Blake s poems: when commenting on the individual versus society, the Industrial Revolution and its
harmful effects on nature, and religious affiliation. Moreover, his strong views on religion are

astounding is that of those 1.1 million only about 200,000 are receiving medication and have the
virus under control due to the high cost of the medication. Many pharmaceutical companies have

The town already has in place what is referred to as Teen Nights, held by the Hasbrouck Heights
Recreation Commission. The problem with these Teen Nights is that it involves a minute
amount of the teens in this area. It involves only 7th and 8th graders. What about the high

community support is at its peak. If different organizations would pitch in and sponsor some
special nights for the teens to get together, there would be fewer nights for kids to roam the

the year and hold different functions, like dances or have guest speakers or comedians. The
YMCA program that is offered to children in the elementary school could be expanded to the

Recognizing the Temporal Dynamics of the Face
Fig. 1.1 Universal Emotions
Most of the developed methods try to recognize the basic expressions and some attempts at
recognizing non basic expressions. However, there have been very few attempts at recognizing the
temporal dynamics of the face. Temporal dynamics denotes to the timing and time length of facial
actions. The significant terms that are used in joining with temporal dynamics are: onset, apex and
offset. These are known as the temporal segments of an expression [40]. Onset is the instance when
the facial expression starts, apex is the point when the expression is at its peak and offset is when
the expression fades away (start of offset is when the expression starts to fade, and the end of
offset is when the expression completely fades out). Similarly, onset time is defined as the time
taken from start to the peak, apex time is defined as the complete time at the peak and offset time
is defined as the total time from a peak to the stop. Pantic and Patras have reported successful
recognition of facial AUs and their temporal segments [2]. By doing so, they have been able to
recognize a much larger range of expressions.
Another very important type of expression classification is posed and spontaneous . Posed
expressions are the artificial expressions that a subject will produce when he or she is requested to
do so. This is commonly the case when the subject is under normal test condition or under
observation in a laboratory.
In contrast, natural expressions are

Since this sculpture is a gravestone, I felt that the sculptor made this gravestone with a gradient
effect with the low/high reliefs in order to signify that the young girl was fading away into death.
A peplos, which is a typical garment seen on specifically women in Greek art, hangs over her
shoulders and seems to create a dragging down feeling to the sculpture since peplos is heavy fabric.
The peplos also accentuates her body without actually revealing much of anything, which was
appropriate considering the time period, the age of the girl depicted, and the purpose that the
sculpture served as, which is as a gravestone. There is no movement whatsoever, but there does
seem to be a subtle vertical line running through the young girl s contropossto stature.
An expression is worth a thousand words. The young girl depicted shows no emotion, which is a
typical characteristic in the classical greek style. It looks as though the girl depicted has her mind
somewhere else, which actually creates a sense of peacefulness since her expression is not one of
pain or discomfort . Unlike most Greek sculptures that are massive in size, this sculpture is smaller
because it depicts the death of a small child. According to the description besides this sculpture, the

When Milton came back, he gave Wilbur and Orville a small wooden toy that had a propeller
and it was powered by a rubber band. The maker was Frenchman Alphonse Penaud, the toy
would be able to fly in the air when you turn the rubber band and let go. The Wright brothers,
were closely following the research of German aviator Otto Lilienthal. When Lilienthal died in a
glider crash, the brothers decided to start their own experiments with flying. So, they then decided
to educate themselves in the theory and state of the art of flying. So they wanted to use some of
their bike motors because since when people are riding bikes the bikes have motors that helps the
rider turn or stop the bike. So, they wanted to control the plane so, they put the motors in to control
the plane. They observed that birds angle their wings balancing in the sky and controlling where

Creon As A Tragic Hero In Sophocles Antigone
Aristotle believed that a tragic hero was a character who makes a judgment error that inevitably
leads to the downfall of that character. Both characters in Sophocles play Antigone can arguably
fulfill that role. Antigone follows up on Oedipus daughter, Antigone, and his brother in law/ uncle,
Creon, as these two characters spend a majority of the play in conflict with each other. Creon, now
ruler of Thebes, has declared a decree that Polyneices, Antigones exiled brother, would be not
deserving of a burial. On the other hand, Antigone made a promise that she would honor her
brother and rebels against Creon to fulfill her promise. Antigone as the protagonist of the play has a
tragic ending and is a sympathetic character, however, Creon is... Show more content on

Throughout the play, Antigone was personified as a pitiful character with good intentions that the
audience could sympathize for. When Creon is about execute Antigone, Antigone explains her
justification of burying her exiled brother Polyneices, This death of mine/ Is of no importance; but
if I had left my brother/ Lying in death unburied, I should have suffered./ Now I do not, (Sophocles,
208). Her ultimate goal is to bury her brother out of loyalty and love for him, therefore, readers can
relate to her and pity her death. Her suicide was honorable and it makes the audience sympathize
that she lost her life for her brother. Although Antigone seems to have good intentions, she is a
character who is selfish. She repeatedly says she wants glory and honor for burying her brother
dismissing her the audience s first impression that she was burying Polyneices to honor him. She
wanted the glory for herself that when her sister wanted to honor their brother too, Antigone
replied There are those who will praise you; I shall have/ honor, too, (Sophocles, 213). She bluntly
states that her sister can not share the honor with her. Antigone [belongs] to Death and her suicide
is selfish. Her rash action caused a ripple of deaths, and she should not be sympathized because she
did not consider the consequences of her death, but instead she wanted to die to stop her misery.
Therefore, Antigone can not be considered the tragic hero of the play because the audience can not
sympathize with Antigone s narcissistic justification of her

Alternative Energy In California

Alternative Energy
California s reliance on high polluting fossil fuels requires that the state strongly emphasize the
development of Alternative Energy Sources (AES) such as hydrogen power, electric vehicle,
hydroelectricity, as well as wind and solar power. It proposes that a wholesale move towards AES
will improve life in the state in three distinct ways. First, it will increase Californians consumer
reliance on finite non renewable energy. Second, it will create jobs in the state by generating a
domestic AES production infrastructure. Finally, it will reap enormous environmental benefits
whereby fossil fuel emissions will be cut significantly. While the move away... Show more content

A shift towards wholesale AES usage would entail a significant reduction of the state s greenhouse
gas emissions. Currently, our use of fossil fuels and consequent greenhouse gas emissions are
causing climate change, destroying natural habitats, and causing ill effects in terms of our
population s health, through pollution related illness (Atabani et al., 2012). While AES is
proposed to be the most viable solution to decreasing the ill effects of fossil fuels, some propose
there are ways that California can and should utilize our current fuels in more environmentally safer
ways for before shifting directly towards alternative fuel. With regards to CO2 emissions from coal,
some propose that so called Clean Coal, or Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) represents an
environmentally viable energy production strategy whereby the United States and California can
use their abundant coal reserves, and trap the CO2 emissions, thus burning the product without
damaging the environment (Noorden,

Fair Trade Coffee Offers a Solution to the Coffee Crisis
When you buy a cup of coffee in Starbucks every morning to keep you awake through the day, do
you ever think of the origins of these coffee beans? How much of those three dollars you pay in
Starbucks goes to the Farmers? Personally, I m not a coffee drinker. But somehow I realize the
big sign in front of Java City in the Reitz Union Food Court, which says Certified Fair Trade
Coffee. I m surprised how few students know what it means. Currently, farmers in Brazil and
Vietnam grow the majority of coffee beans.
These farmers then sell their beans to the middlemen who pay them low prices an average of $0.3
0.4 per pound. The farmers are earning less or even losing for growing ... Show more content on

As a result, wholesale coffee prices are at their lowest levels in 100 years. Back in 1997,
unroasted coffee beans that had a wholesale price of $2 a pound dipped to under 50 cents a
pound in 2002, a price below many farmers production cost. Since farmers couldn t afford the
proper working conditions, the beans would be grown using the twelve most health threatening
types of pesticide. Furthermore, With low prices, farmers tend to reduce inputs and take less
care of the trees. In some cases this means that it is easier to cut down forest for plantations
rather than care for existing ones, said NГ©stor Osorio, executive director of the ICO (Roach).
The farmers could not afford to improve organic growing conditions and develop higher quality
coffee beans. It directly reduces the range of quality and varieties of coffee we are obtaining!
According to Liam Brody, a program coordinator for Oxfam America in Boston, the situation was
so adverse that hundreds of thousands of coffee farmers in Africa and Central and South America
have lost their jobs as farmland is converted to other agricultural uses such as livestock grazing or
the cultivation of illicit drugs (Roach).
To alleviate the coffee crisis, Fair Trade coffee is the most appropriate action. TransFair is the only
organization in the United States to determine whether or not coffee beans meet fair trade standards

Social and Emotional Development
Child Development:
Social and Emotional Development
Child Development Social and Emotional Development
Introduction:
As we grow older we change; these changes are most visible during infancy and childhood. From
birth, babies grow larger and show noticeable development in both their social and intellectual
competence. The study of age related changes in human behaviour is referred to as developmental
psychology. Child development refers to the psychological and biological changes that occur in
individuals from birth to adolescence. By understanding child development, psychologists know
what to expect in infants and children at each developmental stage, and can therefore establish the

Additionally, it allows us to help infants and children deal with and work through any experiences
that they have had, because we can understand and acknowledge how the infant/child is feeling.
However, we are all individuals with individual personalities, and as such, we must remember that
children will develop in different ways and at different rates from each other. Below I will portray
the age related development in infants and children both socially and emotionally.
The following bullet points outline the stages of social development in children:
Infants (1 month):
Even newborn infants show social behaviours. They love to be touched, held, smiled at and cooed
to. At as young an age as one month old, infants can be seen to experiment with their faces and
expressions, and may even try to mimic adults facial gestures. Because their facial muscles are fully
developed at birth, they can make many expressions Newborns can smile slightly, knit their brows,
or appear to pout or cry, and if you give them something that tastes awful, they look disgusted (4).
Infants (3 months): At three months of age, infants will spend their time watching what is going on
around them. They will show their first real smile, perhaps accompanying it with some gurgling in
an attempt to start interacting with others, especially parents/guardians. Infants (4 months): At

Swimming South Analysis
The documentary Swimming South which premiered on 29 January 2017, would have sent a shock
through many of the viewers of channel 9 s weekly 60 minutes program. As it describes a threat
that could cost the Australian tourism industry billions and even have the potential to kill, it is
called the Irukandji jellyfish. Throughout the documentary 60 minutes has cleverly depicted the
jellyfish to be a lethal killer, to really gain the audiences focus while then informing viewers of the
damage this animal can do to not only us but to are whole economy. With various techniques being

Providing video footage of them both actually being stung by the Irukandji gives the realistic
image to the viewers. As with actual evidence and proof of the stings occurring it provides the
viewers with a more realistic feel of what this creature can actually do to us. As the immense pain
being shown by them, it creates a fear for the audience since this creature could be very likely
swimming alongside us in the water. The archival footage just adds to the whole documentaries
persona of the Irukandji being the bad guy and 60 minutes being the hero saving us. By
continuing the bias side of the documentary saying we even have proof of how deadly the
jellyfish is. To cleverly hook the audience to the one side of the topic they are being shown, being
the Jellyfish is pure evil nothing else. Not considering the fact that we are swimming in its home
but this clearly portrays the director s intent as well to only have the audience react due to the bad
effects of this animal. To have the audience think they have to do something about this and have
them worried about this massive threat to us and the tourism industry.
The documentary Swimming south combines a variety of specific techniques such as Camera
techniques, Narration and Archival footage to effectively position the audience to be against this
threat.

Oregon Territory Research Paper
The United States currently occupies around thirty seven percent of North America, but how has
this prosperous country expanded so fast in the last three centuries? The US is currently one of the
largest countries in the world and the second largest in North America. Though most Americans
know about the original Thirteen Colonies, several of them might have trouble trying to list another
major affair through which the United Stateshas expanded westward. Many battles and fights have
caused the borders of the United States and the states and territories of the land now deemed to the
United States to have changed; along with major purchases of land, the battles and fights have
brought America to the current size it is.
The United States was started as thirteen colonies that were originated from settlers who decided
that they wanted religious freedom instead of being forced to remain a menial outsider to the large
European religions. These territories eventually banded together and via the Treaty of Paris 1873
retained their independence from Europe and were finally recognized by several European

In addition, simply because a child moves from the Foundation Stage into Key Stage One shouldn t
mean that the curriculum ceases being active. Young children learn best when they are engaged in
worthwhile, hands on experiences. On the same premise, play does not have to end but it needs to
be teacher initiated and led in order to be of much educational value, for instance, children are
unlikely to spell words correctly, if there isn t a teacher to help sound out the letters in the word.
Ros Bayley and Sally Featherstone are writers on teaching and learning have written a book
entitled Smooth Transitions. In it they state a three year olds brain is twice as active as an adult
brain and this level of activity continues to the age of 9 or 10. Children develop 50% of their
eventual ability to learn before the age of 4 and another 30% before they are 8. Adult interaction
and physical activity continue to make a massive difference to learning during childhood When
measuring the difference between boys and girls they found that most girls have made sufficient
links to their brains to begin the complex skills of reading and writing by the time they are four and
a half while in most boys it is nearer to six They also say that research from all over the world

Infection Prevention In Healthcare Settings
Introduction:
Hand hygiene is recognized by infection prevention and control experts as the single most important
intervention in decreasing the spread of infection in both healthcare and community settings.
Because the hands are vectors for transmission between people as well as inanimate objects such as
environmental surfaces (i.e., blood pressure cuffs), it is critical to practice frequent hand hygiene
using the traditional soap and water or an alcohol based hand rub as appropriate. The 2009 World
Health Guidelines for Hand Hygiene for Healthcare Settings identifies five ways the nosocomial
transmission of pathogens from one patient to another via a healthcare worker s hands can occur:

Infections
Infection prevention and control is required to prevent the transmission of communicable diseases
in all health care settings. Infection prevention and control demands a basic understanding of the
epidemiology of diseases; risk factors that increase patient susceptibility to infection; and the
practices, procedures and treatments that may result in infections.
Infection control precautions are a set of standard recommendations used to reduce the risk of
transmission of infectious agents from body fluids or environmental surfaces that contain infectious
agents.
Stop the spread of germs that make you and others sick: Cover Your Cough, Proper hand hygiene
may eliminate nearly half of all cases of foodborne illness and significantly reduce the spread of
the common cold and flu. Injection safety, or safe injection practices, refers to the measures taken
to perform injections in the safest manner possible for patients, health care providers, and others. I

My Life And Future Goals In Life
A common statement some might say to someone of my age is: Anyone under the age of
eighteen cannot possibly experience something that will change their perspective on life; they
are simply too young. Regardless of how old someone is, they can still face experiences that
could one day shape them as a person. I, personally, have participated in an event that has
completely impacted my life to this day, and has helped me discover my future goals in life.
This event has made me want to change the world and I believe has made me a better person. In
the summer of 2011, I was given what I believed was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Since I
was a young girl, I only ever wanted to be around animals, and I dreamt that one day I would be
able to be an animal doctor , as I once called it. So when my mother told me I would be spending
two weeks at the SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Adventure Camp, I was elated. I would be able to
work with animals both large and small and be a part of the park s conservational efforts. Once I
was there, the opportunity felt even more like a dream. I and other campers participated in
activities like sleeping beside beluga whales, swimming with sharks, and meeting one of the
veterinarians at the park. Everything was perfect, it seemed, until the events at the park began to
become a bit emotional so to speak. After the first few days at SeaWorld Orlando, our camp
counselor decided it was time to show us the new additions at the park. She took us

Hester Prynne And Reverend Dimmesdale
Trials and tribulations are experienced by everyone. Ups and downs are just peaks and valleys
where people grow and learn from. Hester Prynne, from The Scarlet Letter, is punished for
committing a crime but she matures and understands why she is being punished. On the other hand,
the person she commits this crime with, Reverend Dimmesdale, holds his tongue forcing him to
always think about it. Therefore, Nathaniel Hawthornewrote The Scarlet Letterto express that the
journey one faces in the past is irrelevant to the decisions and actions of the present. In the
beginning, Hester Prynne commits adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale and she becomes pregnant
with his child. Hester will not give the name of the father to the townsfolk, urging Dimmesdale...

He is consumed by his thoughts on his crime, therefore he always has it in the back of his mind.
Because Dimmesdale lives in the past, he is not his healthiest, mentally and physically. He hurts
and every time he is reminded of his sin, he puts a hand on his heart signifying that his heart
aches. Dimmesdale is not healthy and it shows to those around him. Not only is ... his voice
more tremulous than before [he has also made] a constant habit, rather than a casual gesture, to
press his hand over his heart? (90). Dimmesdale feels obliged to give his heart to Hester Prynne
and Pearl, and he lets that damage him. Because he is guilty of the same thing as Hester, he also
interprets a meteor as a sign from the heavenly father. Richard Hull states, Dimmesdale and
Hester consider the meanings they attach to things to be meant by a sender, but both the
Enlightenment narrator and Pearl deny such meanings were sent. Thus there are two
interpretations of interpretation (Hull). He talks about the two ways of interpreting things,
believing they are signs or dismissing them completely. Hester believes her child is a sign as
Dimmesdale believes the meteoroid is his sign, and then the narrator and Pearl decline the idea
of messages being sent from a higher power. Dimmesdale may have been hallucinating when he
saw this shooting star but he still depicts it as a message from God. The narrator says, We impute
it, therefore, solely to the disease in his own eye and heart that the minister, looking upward to the
zenith, beheld there the appearance of an immense letter the letter A marked out in lines of dull
red light (116). There is a motif of the scarlet letter and the author uses it to disclose that
Dimmesdale is guilty of the same crime as Hester. They are both guilty but only one of them is
convicted, Hester. Because one of them must deal with their crime publically and the other in
private, they cope with it in

that I somehow turned this crisis into a miracle, and I aced the assignment with flying colors.)
3. Let me start by saying this: I am really good at texting. I am very much like some sort of speed

  • 2. The Defense Of The Insanity Defense The insanity defense has been used in several cases in criminal law. This defense basically states that the accused cannot be held responsible for what he/she did because they had no control over their actions. Many times the defense attorney will plea for a deal that the defendant be sent to a mental rehabilitation center for proper treatment. When using this defense the defense attorney will argue that there may be a chemical imbalance in his brain therefore he had no idea what he was doing at the time. In my opinion the insanity defense should not exist because many of the people accused just use to get out of their justified sentence. Daniel M Naghten was a woodworker who believed he was the target of a conspiracy involving the pope ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And this is because so many people were using this defense to get out of being in trouble and later being sentenced. In many cases involving the insanity defense the defense attorney will raise the point that there is a chemical imbalance in his head, basically stating that he had no control over himself at the time that he did the act of violence. Monte Durham was a 23 year old who had been in and out of prison and mental institutions since he was 17. He was convicted for housebreaking in 1953, and his attorney appealed. Although the district court judge had ruled that Durham s attorneys had failed to prove he didn t know the difference between right and wrong, the federal appellate judge chose to use the case to reform the McNaughton rule. Citing leading psychiatrists and jurists of the day, the appellate judge stated that the McNaughton rule was based on an entirely obsolete and misleading conception of the nature of insanity. He overturned Durham s conviction and established a new rule. The Durham rule states that an accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of mental disease or mental defect. The Durham rule was eventually rejected by the federal courts, because it cast too broad a net. Alcoholics, compulsive gamblers, and drug addicts had successfully used the defense to defeat a wide variety of crimes. (Legal information institute, Cornell university law school). This is an example of how the insanity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Espionage Act Pros And Cons In 1919, the Supreme Court had justified the cause of clear and present danger . This was exercised relating to Charles Schenck releasing thousands of flyers to American servicemen recently drafted to fight in World War I. The flyers described the draft as being involuntary servitude . The flyer states that the government had no right to send American citizens to other countries to kill people. It also mentioned that the war itself was motivated by capitalist greed, and urged draftees to petition for repeal of the draft. Since this event Schenck was charged because of the recently enacted Espionage Act. This act made any utterance that was considered disloyal toward the U.S. government, the Constitution, or the military completely illegal. Schenck responded that the Espionage Act violated the First Amendment of the Constitution. The Constitutional issue within this court case was that it violated the 1st amendment, given the freedom of speech. But everyone else would argue back that the 1917 Espionage Act was already in place. But this too would be unconstitutional. Against this test, the Court upheld the Espionage Act and affirmed Schenck s conviction, finding that his speech had created a clear and present danger of insubordination in wartime.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The court completely understood that Schenck wanted to ruin the draft. The court would also argue back that you need to limit your freedoms, this might include not screaming fire! when there isn t a fire present. While these flyers are just flyers, they can have a huge impact how on the result of the war and later on the economy. He was found guilty with the District court. While Dana did not consider the site potential of other property types, he did a good job researching his options for eldercare facilities. His analysis included regional analysis (comparing other cities and counties to Fort Myers), population trends, Fort Myers healthcare statistics, industry and competitor analysis (by viewing a consultant report), financing alternatives and financial analysis. Together, the information provided a thorough overview of his options within eldercare. 2. How do congregate care and assisted living facilities differ? They differ in client profiles, ownership, elder decision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assisted Living Facility: While a longer term investment with rental income and no sales in the short term, the assisted living option provided a profitable opportunity given Fort Myers demographics. It would be cheaper and most likely faster to build compared to congregate housing and had a large market in Fort Myers. While it is probably not feasible to capture the full potential gross income from a congregate care facility given the higher price and time to sell, tables 1 and 2 below attempt to compare the PGI in the first year of rent/sale from a congregate care and assisted living facility. If all units were sold within the first year (which is highly unlikely), a congregate care facility would provide more cash upfront with a smaller amount of monthly income moving forward. However, the assisted living facility has a higher annual PGI after the first year. Ideally, assuming a market was available for congregate care, it would take roughly 20 years for the income from assisted living to reach the income received from congregate care. Table 1: Annual PGI Congregate Care Facility Table 2: Annual PGI Assisted Living Facility 4. Given the assisted living option, what does the development budget look like? The New York City Water System Alicia Blake Environmental Chemistry Term Paper Final Draft 12/03/14 The New York City Water System Then and Now New York City has one of the most top quality drinking water and is called the champagne of drinking water [13] which is due to its unique water treatment system that consists of a vast reservoir system. A reservoir is a natural or artificial source of untreated water that can be found underground or at ground level that can include water treatment and associated equipment (pumps and piping systems).[1] There are three major watershed systems in which New York receives its water which are The Croton System, The Catskill System, The Delaware System. Further population increase and the expansion of New York City to include five boroughs amplified the need for more clean water circulation. In order to find new water sources the Board of Water Supply built facilities in four watersheds that is now known as the Catskill System (which includes the Ashokan Reservoir and Catskill Aqueduct). The Delaware System was fully constructed in 1944 which receives water from the Delaware River tributary. Located in current day New York Public Library there once housed one of NYC s main water supply systems called the Croton Reservoir (Murray hill reservoir). • 9. Le Guin A Perfect Society Le Guin suggests a perfect society can exist for the majority, but only if we are willing to ignore the suffering of a few. I think that Le Guin is wrong. If you are suffering then it s not a utopia for you, and you are part of the society, so the society is not perfect. In this paper I will tell you about how Le Guin short story is a metaphor of how people use others to get what they want and to be happy, but they don t care about the person they are hurting. Le Guin describes a society that seems utopian. In the short story it states, They were not simple folk, you see, though they were happy. The society was always happy. Not one person is sad in that city, unless you count the child under the city, but we will get into that later. Another example of how the city is utopian is that everyone is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the own, Omelas the author has it set up as an utopia where everyone is naked and happy, but the only reason why this is, is because there is always one child underneath the city always suffering. The child is known as it and is usually someone that is born with a defect. The door is always locked. It doesn;t know how to speak and no one speaks to it. When the people go to give it food they never look at it, just kick it to make it stand up. Give it food. And leave. It screams night on end, but no one cares. No one cares that it has sores all over its body because it sleeps on the hard, cold, dirt. No one cares about it. Why? Because as long as it is suffering, then they can be happy. If the child is not suffering then the city can not be perfect. Everyone knows about the child. Everyone has to go see it. And some do not go home, but walk and walk and walk till they are out of the city. SO the question is, would you be one of those people who walked away from the city? Or would you continue to live in the city and be happy on the accord of one child suffering for their whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evaluating The Current Incremental Budgeting System 1.1 Executive Summary This report reviews the company s current incremental budgeting system, explores the beyond budgeting approach and looks at the alternative flexible methods available. In Summary, although the managing director could continue to use the incremental system, it is recommended that an Activity Based Costing strategy is adopted. Although the current incremental method is simple and easy to understand, it has many drawbacks making it unsuitable for today s economic environment. 1.2 Objectives Taking into consideration the current economic climate, to investigate how beneficial a beyond budgeting approach would be, in regards to flexibility and financial control of the business. To also explore the possibility of adopting an Activity Based Costing system and the benefits it would bring to the company. Alcohol, apathy, entertainment, denial, violence, and blame are some of the forms of escapism they rely on. • 15. Theme Of Women In Othello And The Duchess Of Malfi In the Elizabethan era what were the requirements for women and what made them ideal wives? I want to focus on the two main wives in Othello and The Duchess of Malfi both characters are being judged for being impure and unmoral. Desdemona and the Duchess diverge from each other because they have very different attitudes toward the men in the plays. The men in their lives try to impose upon them which finally drive them to their deaths. Society and men expected women to be submissive and chaste characters but the Duchess really proves them wrong making a statement on how wives shouldn t be alabaster statues kneeling at their husbands tombs. Portraying Desdemona as more of the traditional Elizabethan wifewhich obeys and the Duchess being more of the strong and free feminine symbol. Comparison Of Blockbuster And Independent Films In this essay, I will elaborate on the coexistence of blockbuster and independent films in America with emphasis on independent film making concentrating on the similarities and differences portrayed. Co existence The explosion of independent films in America started in the mid 80s due to the lack of creative niche films after the reorganization of the Hollywood studio systems. During this era, the big Hollywood studio system ran like a Ford Production plant systemized and standardized, pumping out action themed big budget blockbuster films one after another targeted for Americas widest audience of young kids and teenagers. By doing so, they left an untapped market or void that was eventually filled by the independent filmmakers comprised of a group of upcoming women and African Americans who produced movies on very low budgets that spoke about social issues and injustices for the common people. Unlike the 70 s, when auteur pictures backed by studio money and muscle were top grossing films, in the 80s and 90s the audience for even the most compelling independent auteur pictures was significantly smaller. These links can represent email conversations, web surfing, co purchases of two or more products (e.g. Amazon), friendships (e.g. Facebook), followers (e.g. Twitter), etc. Often times these relationships are sensitive and/or confidential in nature [ying wu] and the users are operating under the assumption that their private relationships will not be disclosed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Results: Neighborhood Randomization Using Sub Graph Perturbation In order for people to mine valuable data from social network graphs they must first be given information about the network. Even without explicit information about the nodes, an attacker may use structural information about the nodes and graph itself (e.g. node degree) to identify who the individuals are that the nodes represent. Simple graph wise randomization addresses this problem by deleting k randomly chosen edges and replacing them with k randomly chosen edges, however a problem arises since data miners depend on these structural attributes to properly analyze the social network. Fard and Wang [fard wang] propose a structure aware algorithm for the randomization of social network edges as well as a formal definition of link privacy with respect to a probabilistic threshold. Their motivation is to help conceal sensitive links by using randomization techniques, without disturbing the actual structure of the graph, which is achieved through local neighborhood perturbation. This is needed so that graphs can be analyzed without the link structure being left entirely vulnerable to attackers. The goal of their algorithm is to make it so that an adversary cannot know if a link in the original graph exists from having a link in the new graph. Problem definition: Given a ... According to Management Study Guide (n.d.), human resource management is the practice of managing individuals in an organization through an organized and systematic method. Human resource management affects an organization by executing the procedures and policies and warranting that the complaints of employees are taken care of. Given the different roles taken on by the human resource management, it is vital to the attainment of an organization. Next, I will be sharing information on organizational culture, and then the practices of human resource management in an organization. First, taking a look at how HRM influences organizational performances. According to authors Phillips, J and Gully, S., human resource management policies and practices add value to organization and influences organizational performances by either improving efficiencies or contributing to revenue growth. This is to say that the effectiveness of human resource management in an organization has the ability to bring about change, meet the organizations goals, and be able to expand workers commitment, energy and accomplishments. • 25. Structuralism And Post-Structuralism In Language Structuralism originated in the works of Ferdinand de Saussure, a Swiss linguist in the 20th century. An attempt to study a specific whole as a complex system of interrelated parts, it soon came to be applied to many other fields. Structuralism is closely related to Semiotics and Saussure focused on the underlying system of language, langue instead of the use of language. Yet, the discovery of langue is possible only with an examination of parole, speech. Apart from favouring the synchronic development of language over the diachronic version, he also asserts that linguistic signs consist of a signifier and a signified. Hence, this approach is different from those that focus on the relationships between words and the objects they implicate.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Post Structuralist writing is emotive. Such texts will tend to be euphoric, urgent and flashy. The general notion of Structuralism is that the world is constructed by language. It is only through linguistics, that reality is envisioned. In contrast, Post Structuralism argues that realities are created by languages. All aspects of human experience become textual and everything one thinks of, be it about self or the world, depends on language. Both Structuralism and Post Structuralism arise from Saussure s linguistic theory and so, emphasize on language. In this way, there are identical. Moreover, both accept language as a system of signs that exists separately from any physical or mental reality. Similarly, Structuralism and Post Structuralism will also together acknowledge that a subject is possible only through language. Hence, language overrides humans as the source of action and meaning and so, Structuralism and Post Structuralism are non humanistic [5]. At first, the CIA denied of doing such thing, but later on admitted that they have done mind control experiments on nonvoluntary people. Although, they said that they have stopped completely since then. If the CIA has done brutal experiments like MK Ultra, what other experiments have they done on people without their consents? Are we sure that the CIA discontinued with MK Ultra like they said? The CIA used LSD to brainwash people, which has disastrous effects on people s health. This experiment was truly wrong, unnecessary, and unconstitutional. The CIA were influenced by other countries to experiment on brainwashing people but resulted in the agency to making unethical decisions. In the article, Project Mkultra: One of the Most Shocking CIA Programs of All Time , Melissa explains that, The motivation was also defensive, in that many were afraid during the Cold War that the Russians and Chinese had already developed weapons in this area. The CIA realized that this technique could possibly be very beneficial towards our country, and wanted to understand this process before other countries. With this tactic, the CIA thought they could use brainwashing to their advantage and also create manchurian candidates. In the article, The Secret Montreal Experiments They Don t Want You To Know About, D Alimonte defines Manchurian Candidate as, double agents, or super soldiers, who had been psychologically altered to fulfill a function, then forget it ever happened, thus making interrogation impossible. Symbolism In The Lamb And The Tyger By William Blake William Blake is an English poet and printmaker, specially renowned for his poems published in a series titled Songs of Innocence and Experience. Blake s poems firmly explore the comparisons and differences in both old age and infancy, expressing the importance of human growth by alluding to the correlation between humanlife and the renaissance of nature. In addition, Blake creates a contrast with this joyful concept by conveying the negative aspects of wisdom and moreover, experience. Furthermore, the Romantic Age is represented through many concepts presented in Blake s poems: when commenting on the individual versus society, the Industrial Revolution and its harmful effects on nature, and religious affiliation. Moreover the first stanza begins with a meek and naГЇve question, Little Lamb who made thee, (line 1). The simplicity of the question further suggests the innocence of the child, however, the register of the biblical language (thee) is a clear example of a reference to the Bible. However, something that most people don t know is that the United States has 1.1 million citizens ill with the HIV virus. Something even more astounding is that of those 1.1 million only about 200,000 are receiving medication and have the virus under control due to the high cost of the medication. Many pharmaceutical companies have begun to find gaps within the government patentsystem. As rivalry has started to grow, many of these pharmaceutical companies are beginning to use product patents to create a monopoly. The ending result is to change the patent law and increase restrictions in order to provide fairness and reasonable prices. Although, we have made significant strides in research and development for HIV medication, pharmaceutical companies have yet to find a way to lower the cost of medication. The average cost of meds in the United States for HIV positive person is $2,500 a month with an average cost of $25,000 a year. The problem with these Teen Nights is that it involves a minute amount of the teens in this area. It involves only 7th and 8th graders. What about the high schoolers? They re the ones who get bored most easily. To resolve this problem, the need for community support is at its peak. If different organizations would pitch in and sponsor some special nights for the teens to get together, there would be fewer nights for kids to roam the streets. The churches could pitch in by opening up their basements, for a few nights throughout the year and hold different functions, like dances or have guest speakers or comedians. The YMCA program that is offered to children in the elementary school could be expanded to the twelfth grade, not only providing a place for youth to go, but a place where they can be active. Also local restaurants can hold such things as a dinner dance every once in a while only expecting a small fee in return. • 38. Recognizing the Temporal Dynamics of the Face Fig. 1.1 Universal Emotions Most of the developed methods try to recognize the basic expressions and some attempts at recognizing non basic expressions. However, there have been very few attempts at recognizing the temporal dynamics of the face. Temporal dynamics denotes to the timing and time length of facial actions. The significant terms that are used in joining with temporal dynamics are: onset, apex and offset. These are known as the temporal segments of an expression [40]. Onset is the instance when the facial expression starts, apex is the point when the expression is at its peak and offset is when the expression fades away (start of offset is when the expression starts to fade, and the end of offset is when the expression completely fades out). Similarly, onset time is defined as the time taken from start to the peak, apex time is defined as the complete time at the peak and offset time is defined as the total time from a peak to the stop. Pantic and Patras have reported successful recognition of facial AUs and their temporal segments [2]. By doing so, they have been able to recognize a much larger range of expressions. Another very important type of expression classification is posed and spontaneous . Posed expressions are the artificial expressions that a subject will produce when he or she is requested to do so. This event has made me want to change the world and I believe has made me a better person. In the summer of 2011, I was given what I believed was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Since I was a young girl, I only ever wanted to be around animals, and I dreamt that one day I would be able to be an animal doctor , as I once called it. So when my mother told me I would be spending two weeks at the SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Adventure Camp, I was elated. I would be able to work with animals both large and small and be a part of the park s conservational efforts. Once I was there, the opportunity felt even more like a dream. I and other campers participated in activities like sleeping beside beluga whales, swimming with sharks, and meeting one of the veterinarians at the park. Everything was perfect, it seemed, until the events at the park began to become a bit emotional so to speak. After the first few days at SeaWorld Orlando, our camp counselor decided it was time to show us the new additions at the park. She took us ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Hester Prynne And Reverend Dimmesdale Trials and tribulations are experienced by everyone. Ups and downs are just peaks and valleys where people grow and learn from. Hester Prynne, from The Scarlet Letter, is punished for committing a crime but she matures and understands why she is being punished. On the other hand, the person she commits this crime with, Reverend Dimmesdale, holds his tongue forcing him to always think about it. Therefore, Nathaniel Hawthornewrote The Scarlet Letterto express that the journey one faces in the past is irrelevant to the decisions and actions of the present. In the beginning, Hester Prynne commits adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale and she becomes pregnant with his child. Hester will not give the name of the father to the townsfolk, urging Dimmesdale... Because Dimmesdale lives in the past, he is not his healthiest, mentally and physically. He hurts and every time he is reminded of his sin, he puts a hand on his heart signifying that his heart aches. Dimmesdale is not healthy and it shows to those around him. Not only is ... his voice more tremulous than before [he has also made] a constant habit, rather than a casual gesture, to press his hand over his heart? (90). Dimmesdale feels obliged to give his heart to Hester Prynne and Pearl, and he lets that damage him. Because he is guilty of the same thing as Hester, he also interprets a meteor as a sign from the heavenly father. Richard Hull states, Dimmesdale and Hester consider the meanings they attach to things to be meant by a sender, but both the Enlightenment narrator and Pearl deny such meanings were sent. Thus there are two interpretations of interpretation (Hull). He talks about the two ways of interpreting things, believing they are signs or dismissing them completely. Hester believes her child is a sign as Dimmesdale believes the meteoroid is his sign, and then the narrator and Pearl decline the idea of messages being sent from a higher power. Dimmesdale may have been hallucinating when he saw this shooting star but he still depicts it as a message from God. The narrator says, We impute it, therefore, solely to the disease in his own eye and heart that the minister, looking upward to the zenith, beheld there the appearance of an immense letter the letter A marked out in lines of dull red light (116). There is a motif of the scarlet letter and the author uses it to disclose that Dimmesdale is guilty of the same crime as Hester. They are both guilty but only one of them is convicted, Hester. Because one of them must deal with their crime publically and the other in private, they cope with it in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Synopsis Of A Monologue Was Just Gone ! 1. Anyone who has ever been involved in any amount of theatre knows that auditioning is no one s friend. As someone who is made nervous very easily, I have the awfullest nerves before any audition. So when my acting class decided to work on auditioning, I was somewhat excited. I had prepared a monologue, and I was ready to perform it when the next class rolled around. My name was called, and I was abnormally nervous considering I was surrounded by people I have done much more embarrassing things in front of we all like to forget about the class in which we spent an hour rolling around on the floor in order to connect with out deepest emotions. I get up and the very moment I stand, my entire monologue has left my mind. I could not even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I spent every moment of free time I had at rehearsal researching for my paper, and by the time I got home, I was exhausted. But... I still had a paper to write. Write it I did, surrounded by note cards and with far too many links pulled up on my laptop, with my kitten at my feet. I finished the paper with time to spare, and also with one page more than I was assigned. (It goes without saying that I somehow turned this crisis into a miracle, and I aced the assignment with flying colors.) 3. Let me start by saying this: I am really good at texting. I am very much like some sort of speed texting machine, which sounds ridiculous, but it is true. I rarely ever make typos, and I rarely send a message to the wrong person. Though, there was one time in particular that I did the latter, and it ruined all my plans. One of my closest friends, Alec, had a birthday coming up. He begged me not to do anything, he just wanted to have a normal day. Of course, knowing me, Alec should have known to have me make some sort of promise. As it was, I made no such promise, and I made a plan to conspire with his sister, Emmaline, and plan Alec the perfect surprise party. So, I typed up a text for Emma, talking about my plan to surprise Alec. Now, let me get something straight here. I am very close with both Alec and Emma, and different as they may be, they have very similar contact names in my phone; by this, I mean that both of their contact names ...
