It is so exciting you will be visiting Tanzania and Haydom Lutheran Hospital in
particular! We hope you will have a very wonderful time, whatever purpose
you have for travelling like research, study, visiting the hospital or volunteering.

visitors, doctors and students visiting Haydom. We offer you various safari
options for affordable prices, either on your way to Haydom or on the way back
to Arusha or Kilimanjaro airport, or while staying at Haydom.
Of course we have up to date Toyota Landcruisers with an incredible safari
interior and pop-up roof to your disposal, which can comfortably lodge up to
six adult travelers. Nobody knows the local rough roads better than our drivers,
and a very knowledgeable guide on every specific national park can be picked
up at the entrance. Transfer to and from Haydom is obvious.

SAFARI PACKAGES
Package 1: Four days, pick-up at Kilimanjaro Airport and Tarangire
You will be picked up from Kilimanjaro airport by the Amani HOstel Safari car,
which takes you to Amani Hostel House in Arusha. This is a nice hostel located
in the centre of Arusha city. The next morning you can first do a swim in the
hotel pool, or choose to visit Arusha, for example the Culture Heritage Center
or the Masai market, and then continue to Burunge Tented Lodge. On the way
to Burunge you will visit the Snake Farm, and the Masaai museum. In the
afternoon you will arrive at Burunge Tented Camp, a very nice luxury lodge
outside Tarangire National Park. Here you can swim in the swimming pool of
the lodge while you are watching zebras or other animals passing by. After
dinner you are free in the evening.
The next morning the Safari car will pick you up early for a full day game drive
in Tarangire. You will get the lunchbox from the hotel. Optional we can arrange
a luxury lunch for you at Tarangire Safari Lodge, which is on a beautiful location
in the park with a great view (not included in the price). At the end of the
afternoon you will go back to Burunge for dinner and sleeping. The next day
you will continue your journey to Haydom where you will arrive at lunchtime.

Package 2: Three days, pick-up at Kilimanjaro Airport and Tarangire
This is like package 1 but here you will have your gamedrive in Tarangire on the
afternoon after you arrive and the next day in the morning, so you will be one
day earlier in Haydom.
You will be picked up in the evening from Kilimanjaro airport by the hospital
Safari car, which takes you to Korona House in Arusha. This is a small, cosy
hotel at the South side of Arusha. The next morning the car takes you to
Tarangire National Park where you will arrive at lunchtime. At the end of the
day you go to Burunge Tented Lodge. a very nice luxury lodge outside Tarangire
National Park. After having your dinner you can swim in the swimming pool of
the lodge while you are watching zebras or other animals passing by. The next
morning the Safari car will pick you up early for a half day game drive in
Tarangire. You will get the lunchbox from the hotel. At the end of the morning
you will be taken to Haydom where you will arrive in the afternoon.

Package 3: Three days, weekend to Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara
On Friday, after work and lunch, the hospital Safari car will take you to
Ngorongoro Farmhouse. This is a very nice lodge situated between Karatu and
Ngorongoro. There you will have your dinner and you can swim in the hotel’s
pool. On Saturday you will go early in the morning to Ngorongoro. There you
will have gamedrive the whole day. In the afternoon you will go back to
Ngorongoro Farmhouse.
On Sunday the car will pick you up again to take you to Lake Manyara National
Park. You enter the park at the North gate, but in the afternoon you leave the
park at the South gate. This means that you will see the entire park, while most
visitors just visit the Northern part.
From the South entrance you will go back to Haydom via Mbulu, but not after
have experienced the beautiful road climbing the Rift with great views on Lake
Manyara.

Package 4: Two days, Tarangire and back to Kilimanjaro Airport
This is the option you take when you want to visit Tarangire National Park on
your way back from Haydom to Kilimanjaro airport. In the morning the hospital
Safari car will take you to Tarangire, where you will arrive around lunchtime.
You can have lunch during the journey to Tarangire (which is not included) or
take a lunchbox from Haydom. Than you will enter the park and have a
gamedrive until the end of the afternoon. Than you will go to your lodge,
Burunge Tented Lodge which is a very nice lodge situated outside the park.
There you will have your dinner and you can take a dive in the swimming pool,
while watching the zebras and other animals passing by. The next morning you
will go for the early morning game drive. This will take until lunchtime. Lunch
will be the lunchbox provided by Burunge Tented Lodge, and then you will
continue your journey to Kilimanjaro Airport where you will arrive around
18:00.

route which takes 6 days or the Lemosho route which will take 8 days. The
price is the same, all-in from Arusha for USD 1,750.
The packages are standard packages. We can adjust the package to your wishes,
in number of days, level of accommodation etc. Just let us know what you have
in mind. You can always first ask our proposal, compare with other safari

To be sure to get the accommodation as described please make your booking
in advance as early as possible. When the described accommodation is not
available, we will come up with a proposal for other accommodation which
might have another price.

PRACTICAL TIPS
 Don’t wear blue or black clothes as they attract tsee-tsee flies
 Take mosquito repellent
 Try to do your morning safari early in the morning as than you have the
most chance to see the animals
 Don’t photograph people without getting their permission
 Don’t feed the animals
 Never leave your vehicle or the camp unaccompanied
 Don’t forget to take your binoculars and your camera
PRICES
All mentioned prices include safari car, driver/guide, park entrance fee, crater
fee for the car, accommodation, meals. Not included are tips and drinks.
Tipping the driver is not obligatory, of course you can if you are very happy
with the driver or guide but this is up to you.
The price of accommodation is included, however, if the mentioned
accommodation is not available we have the right to choose another
accommodation. As soon as we get your wishes and the dates we can check the
availability.

WHAT PERIOD TO VISIT
Anytime! Haydom is situated on altitude on top of the Great Rift, which makes
the temperature very
constant.
Use this image as a
reference for rainy seasons.
This is the temperature in
Ngorongoro where it can
be chilly.
For Haydom you could add
7 degrees to the
temperature. It can be warm in the sun, but not sweaty!
If you are planning to visit the ‘great migration’ in the Serengeti, be prepared
that the animals move according to the season.
A long but thin pair of trousers for men and either trousers or long skirt (below
knees) for women is perfect when visiting the hospital or church. A short
sleeved T-shirt or blouse is perfect for all occasions. When on safari or on the
guest house premises you can wear anything you like, like short trousers. You
can bring one long
sleeved shirt or sweater
for the evenings.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Booking Confirmation:
You are requested to transfer 40% of the total cost of the tour in order to
guarantee the reservation after your booking or 90 days before the Safari. The
balance is due 10 days prior to departure.
When to book your Safari:
It is better to book as far in advance as possible to ensure availability of rooms
and other services, especially during the peak seasons (June to February, and
Christmas time). In general, a minimum of eight weeks prior to arrival should
ensure your first choice bookings.
Cancellation:
Should you cancel the tour within 90 days before the safari, the cancellation
fee is equal to the deposit,
Liabilities and Insurance:
Amani Hostel acts only as an agent of the passenger in all matters relating to
tours and accepts no responsibility for any personal illness, injury, accident,
death, delay, any kind of loss, damage or irregularity of any kind, which may be
occasioned by reason of any act or omission beyond its control, including
without limitation, any act of negligence or breach of contract of any third
party such as a hotel or airline, who is to, or does supply, any goods or services
for Business etc.
Therefore, Any client should find her/his own secure fully comprehensive travel
insurance to cover her/his for any eventual loss of baggage or valuables,
personal accident and medical expenses, or loss of any kind.
Payment:
All pre-payments are payable via bank transfer to Amani Hostel
Accommodation:
Amani Hostel has the right to substitute the hotels named in the itinerary,
when absolutely necessary. Avoid unexpected accommodation changes by
early booking to guarantee your first choice (minimum 45-60 days before the
Safari).

OTHER TOURS FROM HAYDOM:
TRIBES, NATURE AND CULTURE
The area around Haydom Lutheran Hospital is cultural very diverse and
interesting. It is the only place in Africa where four linguistic groups meet. The
Datoga (Nilotic language), Hadzabe (Khoisan), Iraq (Cushitic) and Iranzu/Iramba
(Bantu). They all share the national language, Kiswahili.
You can learn more about this at the 4 Corners Cultural Programme (4CCP),
please visit their website for more information (www.4ccp.org). Together with
4CCP we can organize daytrips for example to the Hadzabe tribe, to Lake
Basutu for a cano tour to see the hippo’s. Ask what is possible at

NATIONAL PARKS
TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Tarangire National Park is an astonishing park, known for the large herds of
elephants. Many animals visit the park during the dry season in search for
water of the Tarangire river. Great baobab trees make the area beautiful.
LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
Lake Manyara National Park is not as known as the other parks in the
Northern circuit, but unique on its own. Stretched alongside the Great Rift,
with beautiful surroundings. Highlights are the numerous water birds and
monkeys in the small forest. If you are really lucky you might find lions
relaxing in a tree.
NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a must-see. It is not a national park,
because Masaai live inside the area. The crater is probably the result of the
collapse of a volcanic mountain. It is possible that this mountain was even
higher than Kilimanjaro! The crater is an oasis with water and grass for all
the animals. A chance to see lion, leopard and even a black rhino.
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Serengeti, the romantic park with endless plains. That is exactly what the
Masaai word ‘Siringet’ means. You reach this enormous park through the
Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The northern part of the Serengeti is part of
Kenya. The main tourist attraction of the Serengeti is ‘the great migration’
where enormous herds of zebra and wildebeest travel through the park in
search for green grass.
From December to April is the best time to see the animals, as the animals are
in the eastern part of Serengeti bordering the Ngorongoro conservation area.
More than 10.000 animals will get offspring around February. Because this part
of the park is the easiest accessible, it is also most visited and can be busy. April
and May is considered
rainy season, which comes
with lower pricing.
May to June the
wildebeest gather in the
south to prepare their
journey to the north
through the ‘western
corridor’. If the dry season
starts, around June-July
and there is a lack of food
they start to move. One of
the ultimate sights which is

difficult to time is their massive crossing of the Grumeti river, where many of
them get eaten by the crocodiles.
In August the wildebeest cross the Mara river to Kenya, after which they are
more difficult to see. Mobile camps try to reach this northern area. It is still
considered a good time to see predators on the southern plains, as they are
non-migrating, territorial animals.
End October to mid-November the wildebeest will move south again, through
the Mara area to the Lobo area reaching the Ndutu area close to the
Ngorongoro conservation area.
