Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate hydrolyzed feather meal (HFM) as a substitute for
fish meal (FM) or soybean meal (SBM) in Nile tilapia fry diets. Triplicate groups of fish (initial body
weight 2.30 g 卤 0.01) were fed seven isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets formulated to contain 30 %
crude protein and 19.70 kJ g 1 gross energy for 8 weeks. The control diet (CD) contained 22 % local
FM and 30 % SBM, whereas in the other six diets, HFM replaced 33, 66 or 100 % of FM or SBM.
The best weight gain
(11.46), specific growth rate (3.14) and feed conversion ratio (1.24) of tilapia fry fed
SBM33%, CD, FM33% and SBM66% diets were exhibited. Final body weight and protein retention
increased in a linear pattern with increasing amino acids in the experimental diets with the exception
of leucine and valine. The results indicated that good quality HFM can successfully replace FM or
SBM by up to 33 and 66 %, respectively, in Nile tilapia fry diets without compromising growth and
protein utilization. The results also support the benefits of combining different sources of plant and
animal proteins in Nile tilapia diets.

Introduction As our world grows and the population grows, more and more people find themselves
living in disaster prone areas. The vulnerability of these peoples is often due to their lack of
knowledge about the potential risks in the area. As these settlements become larger, the more
imbedded into the surrounding area it becomes. In this paper we will look at the communities that
surround the Tungurahua volcano in Ecuador. Specifically, evaluating how the emergency
management system operates and functions to provide support to these vulnerable communities.
Volcanic eruptions typically cause an immediate chaotic response and a sound emergency
management system is critical during this type of disaster. In the case of the Tungurahua volcano it has
been active for many years, sometimes only producing minor pyroclastic flows, but is has been known
to erupt violently. This presents a unique environment, in which, the emergency services and
surrounding communities have become accustom to. A unique aspect of communities that live in the
shadow of the Tungurahua volcano is the resilience they have to thrive under impending disaster. Most
of these communities have adapted well to the risks posed by the volcano. To get a better

I. Speech codes theory Speech codes theory is an account of communication as a deeply cultured
human activity. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the kinds
of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize their
communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge can be
discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key theoretical
commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates research within the
tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published in prototypical form with
an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of four empirically grounded
principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was presented as a formal theoretical
statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of which were carried over intact from the
earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory was created for two purposes. One purpose was
to distill some of what might be learned from a large body of fieldwork research on culturally
distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version of speech codes theory was written, there had

1 Journalist, writer, and poet Dorothy Rothschild was born on August 22, 1893, in West End, New
Jersey. Dorothy Parker was a legendary literary figure, known for her biting wit. She worked on such
magazines as Vogue and Vanity Fair during the late 1910s. Parker went on to work as a book reviewer
for The New Yorker in the 1920s. A selection of her reviews for this magazine was published in 1970
as Constant Reader, the title of her column. She remained a contributor to The New Yorker for many
years; the magazine also published a number of her short stories. One of her most popular stories, Big
