Improving Education Through Cultural Diversity
In today s society, I ve learned that cultural diversity is important and it has been for many centuries
ago. The dictionary states that cultural diversity is the cohabitation of different values, cultural, sex
and race in one definite component. In America today cultural diversity has been an everyday
expression in the education world. Some have a misunderstanding of what it may mean. We must have
some type of order if we plan to be successful when it comes to having a diverse school. This happens
within our own learning services where our children and our students are well educated. This thesis is
improving education through cultural diversity and how American can see it as trying to co existing in

I think it is a good ideas to teach children about what is right from wrong when they are young. I like
to tell children that they can work better together when they fully understand each other. Now and
days students have tons of technology in the classroom that most people feel that will help them learn.
Others feel like technology blocks student from learning because they depend on google. I ve heard
some students say that if you don t know the answer then you can just google it. Children are being
raised in the technology generation where technology is everywhere. But why stop children from
using technology when that s all that is big shown on television, in the media, magazines, radio, etc.
From reading a new article from Pinellas County School District I learned that the children from
Tarpon Springs Elementary school are via video chatting with student from Greece. I find that to be a
great idea to have children interact through technology. Why? Because the questions that the children
are asking some teacher do not know because they have never been to Greece to experience the things
that the children over there have experienced. In case of emergency, how do you get off the island
(Reeves, 2016). A fifth grader asked that question, I felt that whatever question that the children asked
were all good questions. In the article it did not state all the questions but I m pretty sure that some
students had question about their school activities in

In A Grove Vs Rashomon
Akira Kurosawa s film, Rashomon, is based on Ryunosuke Aktagawa s story, In a Grove. The film and
the story both tells a tale of a samurai who was found murdered in the woods. Both the story and film
investigates different versions of the incident told by four different characters including Tajomaru the
bandit, the samurai s wife, the samurai, and the woodcutter. Each of these characters tell four
completely different viewpoints of what happened to the samurai who was found murdered in the
woods to the commissioner but each with a little more detail than the previous storyteller. All but the
woodcutter s version had something in common. In each story, the storytellers claim that he or she was
the murderer. They all admitted that they murdered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tajomaru considered himself to be a proud warrior. In his version of the story, he admits that he
robbed and tied the samurai up, and then vehemently seduced the samurai s wife all because he
wanted the samurai s beautiful wife. If it wasn t for the wife none of this would ve took place. At first
it comes off as a rape because of the struggle Tajomaru was having but the samurai s wife eventually
gave in due to Tajomaru s masculine appeal. The samurai s wife couldn t bear the shame of given into
Tajomaru sexually so she says that either the bandit or her husband must die. So this led to her
husband and the bandit engaging in a deadly sword fight. Tajomaru ended up killing the samurai in the
fight. While the two men were fighting the samurai s wife disappeared away into the woods. Tajomaru
confessed to the crime and stated his motives but after reading and watching his story it still seemed as
if something was missing. The bandit made his crime to seem like more of a heroic and honorable act
rather just killing the samurai for a senseless reason by saying that the samurai died an honorable
death . This way the samurai will still retain his reputation as a proud, aggressive and masculine
warrior so he won t be viewed as a bad

Should Sports Be Allowed In The High School Curriculum
Should athletics be accepted in the High School Curriculum? Many people assume that athletics in
education are a blessing and not a necessary evil. Athletics keep truancy issues low and school spirits
high, but come at a cost of the disappointing the athlete and could quite possibly scar him or her for
the rest of their lives. In discussions of school sports, one controversial issue has always been if sports
are truly good for the student. On the one hand, those for athletics argue that basic social skills and
discipline are taught and enforced. On the other hand, however, an athlete must sacrifice learning and
study to participate in his or her sport. Other students who do not participate in any athletic event
maintain a steady average and learn with limited interruptions. My own view is that ... Show more

Athletics can be viewed as a blessing or a curse depending on where one is and where one comes
from. These men represent the dreams of many children and more often their parents. (Rising Cost)
More students are pressured into playing sports to please their parents by doing what they could never
do. Sports has its pros and cons like any other controversial topic , but this does not mean that it be
judged on facts alone. Consequently, this argument essay took a turn for the more depressing.
Touching on subjects like death rate and inevitable recession of intellect over generations, however,
students will still enjoy a good pickup game of their sport of choice and their parents will still be
cheering on the sidelines. I learned an important lesson writing this paper that I feel will shape my life

The And Gold Tour Bus From Louisiana State University
On Losing Everything
This past week I saw that purple and gold tour bus from Louisiana State University in my town, not
only surprising me but also forcing me to think back on my childhood in the south. Growing up in
southern Louisiana one must be prepared for major storms and flooding at less than a day s notice.
Hurricanes are powerful storms that can ravish towns and can be deadly for people and animals alike.
Hurricane Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast in August of 2005, and I was in the midst of that
wreckage. My family and I were living in a small, close knit community, named St. Amant, about an
hour west of New Orleans. On the third day of the hurricane, my family experienced a loss greater
than we could have ever imagined. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In no way do I mean to trivialize the severe and deadly effects hurricanes can potentially bring, but not
all hurricanes are the same. Most storms that would make it to the area I used to live usually lost
strength by the time it got to us. For the weaker storms, the kids would get a mini vacation from
school, and the parents got a much needed break from work. At the time, I thought everyone in
Louisiana and especially New Orleans were not ready for what was coming. Louisiana is a laid back
state, due to its French roots. The catch phrase for the state was always Laissez Les Bon Temps rouler,
or Let the good times roll! So, it s easy to see why the media portrayed Louisianan s as not caring
about the tropical storm that was headed our way. We did care, we were just expecting much less than
what we received. I think a good way to describe this is that people from California have been through
many earthquakes and are prepared for them, but would you stop living your life for a small
earthquake that might not happen? Probably not. My family tried to be as prepared as we possibly
could, but there is only so much money to go around buying things for situations that might not even
happen. My dad purchased our first gasoline generator earlier that year which sadly put a dent into our
emergency savings. Nevertheless, we had enough supplies, water, and food to last about a week if
necessary. From my memories, about a week

Waitrose Stakeholders
In this essay I will be writing about the stakeholders of both, The IPO and Waitrose. I will also be
evaluating the impact of different types of stakeholders in one particular company, either The IPO or
Waitrose. Stakeholders can be any person or organisation that has an interest in the activities, good
and services of a business. Firstly with Waitrose. Waitrose is a national supermarket chain with over
305 stores across the UK and Channel Islands and 40 John Lewis stores. Waitrose is under the John
Lewis Partnership and the whole company have over 91,000 employees. Waitrose s aims and
objectives is based upon their future expansion. From the about Waitrose webpage, it states that

The suppliers are an influential stakeholder for any supermarket chain. With Waitrose they get a vast
amount of their supplies from organic farms and other Fairtrade suppliers. Furthermore they get a
small amount of their produce from the small amount of farms which they own, one example is
Leckford Farm. At this particular farm they would be able to supply a small amount of produce to a
local Waitrose store in the surrounding area. The suppliers are an important stakeholder to any
supermarket because if the supplier delivers stock for the supermarket late then Waitrose would not be
able to continue with selling that particular item until the stock is delivered, furthermore if this item is
bought regularly by customers then there would be a lot of complaints unless there would be stock
reserved in case an issue such as this would occur. The

Essay On Discourse Community
The discourse community I share with my sister is no different. It has existed since we first gained
conscious awareness of one another, and has continued to develop over the years. My interactions
with my sister, from our methods of communications to our range of actions and responses have all
played a viable role in developing the bonds between us. These elements come together toward a
common sense of familial care and appreciation for one another. One point in particular, which this
community continuously makes in our everyday lives is that of communication. Communication is the
key to this discourse community as it is with all others. Between my sister and I, communication is
primarily verbal base and varies in subjects based on several conditions such as immediate
surroundings, recent or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking is a much broader form of communication allowing for easier and more convenient way of
sharing information with another, For example, if my sister wants to share with me her plans for today
and where she ll be in a certain time period, she ll most likely speak to me directly and give me all the
necessary information needed to fully understand her. By speaking it to me, I am able to pose
questions to gain even more clarification should I miss some details and not totally understand what it
is she said. Speaking doesn t follow a specific genre as other forms of communication might, the
specifics of a conversation are geared toward that particular conversation and rarely overlap into other
discussions which we may have between one another. Something of note to point out with speaking is
the higher chance of conflict between members of a discourse community. Being that I talk to my
sister more than any other form of communication, our conflicts are always verbal

Neil Postman
Throughout the span of the past few weeks I have traversed the globe, visiting several countries and
regions, only to realize that although new methods develop, language as a way of expressing ones self
has remained the most effective. Despite this fact, language still has its pitfalls. Neil Postman, in his
essay #8220;Defending Against the Indefensible, #8221; outlines seven concepts that can be used to
aid a student in better understanding the language as a means of communication. He describes how
modern teaching methods leave a student vulnerable to the #8220;prejudices of their elders #8221;,
further stating that a good teacher must always be skeptical. He urges teachers of all subjects to break
free from traditional teachings as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Postman argues that if a student were to see hidden meaning in a word, then they could use it to their
defense. It is my belief that Postman may be correct now, what about in the future. If attention were
turned to smaller words, then surely our vocabulary will diminish, and the same thing that happened to
words such as true, and false, will happen to words such as semantic, and pedagogical. Vocabulary
tests should be left as they are. If a student wishes to study words of everyday use, read a book, or
watch television. The next principle was thought provoking as well. The use of a metaphor as a tool in
education is rarely used, as Postman notes. #8220;Unless our students are aware of how metaphors
shape arguments, organize perceptions, and control feelings, their understanding is severely limited.
Postman displays how most political speeches are laced with metaphors, and how teacher #8217;s
methods are shaped by a metaphor. A student who doesn #8217;t understand a metaphor, or when it is
being applied tends to have a more closed outlook. A metaphor, used as a communication skill, is best
described in a political way. Think of Reagan #8217;s Voodoo economics, or Bill Clinton building a
bridge to the 21st century. Politicians can easily scam an ignorant voter, should one not understand a
metaphor. For example: Clinton refers to building a bridge, but does not tell us with which tools he

Medical Field Observation
My experience of observing the application of new innovations in a clinical setting significantly
contributed to my desire to become a health care professional. This past summer, I shadowed a
Prosthodontic and Cosmetic Dentist in Manhattan. At the Center of High Tech Dentistry, Dr.
Rosenberg, uses technological innovations to improve the quality of care he provides to his patients.
While doing so, he manages to improve the lives of his patients in a matter of minutes. The hours I
spent in his office revolutionized my thinking of the dental field. The best example of this is Dr.
Rosenberg s integration of the CEREC into his dental procedures. The CEREC uses 3D printing
technology that makes crowns in a matter of minutes. Dr. Rosenberg taught me how to operate the
CEREC, and allowed me to practice on an artificial test subject. The use of the CEREC was the

Star Wars Effects
One of the reasons creating Star Wars was so hard was because of the technology available, or lack
thereof. Even Lucas said, There was no special effects companies in those days and the studios special
effects department had been disbanded. Part of the was because of the expense, and part of it was that
the American taste, the culture had gone toward very realistic looking films. (Empire of Dreams) But
Lucas was determined and In many cases, the equipment and techniques to realize what Lucas
envisioned did not exist yet; they would have to be invented. (Clark 43) So in 1975, Lucas created a
visual effects company and hired John Dykstra, a talented special effects artist, to head the company
which he named ILM, or Industrial Light Magic. ILM spurred from Star Wars and is still renowned

A Long Walk To Water Analysis
One important factor in A Long Walk to Water that helps Salva survive is his motivation from the loss
of his family/friends. After Salva loses Uncle and Mariel, Salva continues as a stronger and more self
dependent man. As it states in A Long Walk to Water, Mariel and Uncle were no longer by his side,
and they never would be again, but Salva knew that both of them would have wanted him to survive,
to finish the trip and reach the Itang refugee camp safely. I was almost as if they had left their strenge
with him, to help him on the journey....But there was no doubt: Beneath his terrible sadness, he felt
stronger (Park, 65). This proves that the death of Uncle and Mariel strengthen Salva and motivated
him to keep going. If Uncle and Mariel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, surviving the Gilo River, the crocodiles, and the rebel s shooting was tremendously
lucky. If Salva did not have this luck then he would long be gone already. Furthermore, Slava meeting
the old Dinka woman and being able to receive help from her was also extremely lucky. As it states in
a Long Walk To Water, The old woman gave Salva a bag of peanuts and a gourd for drinking water
(Park, 22). This shows that Salva meeting the old woman is a miracle because he got housing for a
few days and food and a gourd for water. This may not seem that important however when Salva was
crossing the Akobo desert if Salva didn t have the old woman s gourd to hold water he could have died
of dehydration.
A second theme in A Long Walk to Water that helps Salva survive is family being the most important
resource. This relates to Slava s survival because Salva depends on his Uncle for food, water, and
protection. Like it states in A Long Walk to Water, Now that Salva was without Uncle s care and
protection, the group attitude toward him changed.... No one shared anything with him, neither food
nor company. Uncle had always shared the animals and birds he shot with everyone in the group
(Park, 65 66). This shows that Salva relied on Uncle for most of what he needed to survive and as
verbalized before Salva uses Uncle like an asset for survival. So without Uncle, Salva may have not
survive at all because Uncle was the one who provided most of

Essay On Grendel s Last Words
Grendel s last words Poor Grendel s had an accident.... So may you all is seen as a curse placed upon

their kind all die by the hand of Grendel. Grendel though believing that his death just like other events

But Beowulf ignores Grendel and basically makes grendel say uncle when he makes Grendel sing
about walls. Grendel, Grendel! You make the world by whispers, second by second. Are you blind to
that? Whether you make it a grave or a garden of roses is not the point. Feel the wall; is it not hard
(Gardner 12)? Beowulf proves to grendel that grendel is not all that is out there in the world. Grendel
does not understand that the world has become fearful because of him. Grendel still follows his own
way of life and as a result has his arm torn off by Beowulf. Grendel runs off his arm leaking blood and
slowly dieing. After a while Grendel begins to say that he did not feel any pain in his arm anymore

The Crime And Crime Prevention
In the world there are many social problems and most of them affect each and every one of us, such as
cancer or Ebola. One that stands out is the rise in crime in America. Crime is huge in America
although law enforcement say they are doing something about and have it handled, the truth is it is out
of control. Stated in America.Net in an article online Attorney General Eric Holder spoke at the
Project Safe Neighborhoods annual conference in New Orleans on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 and
endorsed three crime control strategies. Law enforcement through cooperative efforts between police,
community and prosecutors to reduce violent crime, and the incarceration of high risk offenders.
Project Safe Neighborhoods. Crime prevention by addressing underlying social issues. Reentry
programs to assist offenders returning from prison. If these programs are being put in place then there
should be a decreased incidence of crime in America. People can t even leave their homes without
having to worry if something is going to happen to them. This is a growing concern in America, but
what is America doing to prevent this from happening? There are many organizations working on the
issue of crime to reduce the number of incidences. There is one main contributing factor lead increases
the likelihood of crime and that is poverty. However, it is ironic that although poverty is a not so
pleasant thing, it is needed to prevent communism and the risk of taking our freedom away as stated as

Stereotype Promise
Stereotype Threat and Stereotype Promise are two concepts that explains or rationalize why minority
groups such as African American underperform compared to their white counterparts, and why Asian
American students have successful educational outcomes compared to other minority groups. Using
Claude M. Steele s article of Thin Ice: Stereotype Threat and Black College Students, and Jennifer Lee
and Min Zhou work called From Unassimilable to Exceptional: The Rise of Asian Americans and
Stereotype Promise, we can further understand the effects of these two concepts on the two different
subgroups. Stereotype threat and stereotype promise are manifested in everyday educational contexts,

led to Asian ethnic groups being homogenized into the bread racial label of Asian American,
disregarding the differences in ethnicity, class, generation status, and migration history. Which goes on
to further boost the positive stereotypes associated with Asian Americans, and that became a form of
symbolic capital that benefits Asian American students in educational contexts. Teachers favored
Asian American students because they were perceived as bright, hard working, better prepared, and
more willing to put in effort into their homework (Lee and Zhou 17). These perceptions affected the
grades Asian American students would receive, extra help were offered with their coursework and
college applications, and their likelihood of being placed into academic programs and competitive
academic tracks. This help further the theory of stereotype promise, in which Asian American students
began to see themselves the way that teachers and society sees them with the idea of Asian American
Exceptionalism. In results, it led to the self fulfilling prophecy, where it begins with a false definition
of the situation, evoking a new behaviour, which makes the original false conception come true (Lee
and Zhou 18). Both Asian American students and teachers began to believe that all Asians are high
achieving, which resulted a change in the student s behavior, and ultimately, a change in their
academic outcome.

The Statue Of The Goddess Sekhmet Analysis
Mistress of peace and of the war cry. Lady of heaven, queen of the gods Great Mut. Creator. Protector.
Lady of joy. Cobra of dread. The vigilant mistress of Karnak. Mighty ruler in her Theban temple. She
whose spirit exists because her temple endures. She whose temple and city will exist for millions of
years 1. This writing comes from a hymn on a stela praising Mut. This stela praising one of the
prominent goddesses of Egypt shows the great praise and proclamations given to their religious
figures. Another such example of Egypt s adoration for their gods is in the statue of Sekhmet, one of
the many other statues found at the Temple of Mut. The statue stands as another representation of not
only Egypt s growing religious movements, but of the growing artistic movements in sculpting as well
and the appreciation the higher powers of Egyptians had on their gods and religion.
The Statue of the Goddess Sekhmet is currently held at the Royal Ontario Museum in the Ancient
Egypt exhibit with the inventory number, 2007. 68. 1. The statue depicts a woman with the head of a
lion, the goddess Sekhmet herself, sitting on a throne and has a broken off muzzle due to age. The
figure sits rigidly on top of a throne, a common depiction of some of the important gods of Egypt.
Originally the statue had held an ankh but had broken off due to age. It was sculpted out of black
granite and stands at 184 centimetres.
The statue was built during the New Kingdom specifically the 18th dynasty

According to Bustle.com, Lincoln was found to be one of the top ten drunkest cities in America. This
doesn t come as much of a shock to me. Drinking is part of Nebraska s culture. Small Nebraska towns
are full of drinkers; even minors are allowed to participate. Even though I am from a small town, I
didn t drink until I was in college, and even then I did so in a responsible manner. My family and
friends never encouraged or participated in drinking, so I never really felt the need to. However, the
same can t be said for many of my high school peers.

Why Did Lynching Occur Towards African Americans in American History?
When President Abraham Lincoln addressed the nation in his Gettysburg address he expressed the
bloodshed from the civil war would bring about a new birth of freedom for the American people and
nation. During the 19th century and in the aftermath of the civil war, white southerners engaged in a
ruthless and never ending cycle of violence against African Americans. The white southerners engaged
in violence over whether or not, after slavery African Americans would get full benefits of
citizenships. The terror that was inflicted by whites onto African Americans resulted in 4,743 of
African Americans being tortured, and lynched between the years of 1882 1968. Lynching has become
the most disturbing and lawless act in American history. Many scholars and leaders have debated over
the reasoning of such violent acts such as lynching during this time period. In the Ida B wells book
The Red Record she explains that lynching wasn t just about accused crimes of the African American
man, but the lynching of African American men in the community who were Black people who were
educated or business men. She concludes this by examining the different excuses the whites gave
regarding the reasoning behind the massive lynching throughout the year. The first excuse to the rest
of the world was to stamp out alleged race riots. Ida B. wells argues this couldn t have been the case

Bringing Aston Blair s June 12 executive committee meeting to a close Wynn Aston, III, chief
executive officer and chairman of the board, asked Peter Casey, vice president of marketing, and Chris
Trott, vice president of corporate planning, to seriously reexamine the company s procedures for
forecasting sales. Aston hoped that improved product demand projections would lead to better

The success of Aston Blair s other films often depended upon the timing and popularity of major new
releases by its rivals, making accurate forecasting difficult. Moreover, as the firm has tried to increase
sales growth, it has introduced more completely new titles and relied less on sequels to past hits. The
increasing emphasis on new titles has further complicated forecasting efforts. The combination of
declining demand and Aston s Blair s overly optimistic sales forecasts for the first two quarters of
2004 had resulted in excessive inventories and sizable losses. Aston Blair s current problems stood in
dramatic contrast with the company s recent record of outstanding growth and profitability. Aston s
great grandfather founded the company in 1910 as a producer of children s books, and as the company
evolved into multimedia, it had always enjoyed a reputation for being a premiere supplier. During
Aston s 10 year stewardship as chief executive officer, the firm had quadrupled in size and had
become the most profitable firm in the industry. Aston attributed this recent success to the company s
aggressive marketing efforts and to its ability to identify potential multimedia users and to work with
them in developing products tailored to their requirements. Under Aston s and Pack s direction, the
company was the first firm in the industry to develop a marketing organization where market

The Benefits Of Raising The Minimum Wage
Raising the minimum wage helps both the employees and employers. Boosting the economic growth
in America. Minimum wage helps ensure a fair wage for the low paid workers. There have been
debates on this economical topic for years, whether if it should or shouldn t be raised. In the United
States, the Minimum wage should be raised. By doing so it brings good benefits and keeps the
economy stable.
Raising minimum wage helps improve the public health in the United States. The public health effect
is often left out whenever there is a discussion on raising the minimum wage. The public health
impacts greatly on low income Americans by raising the minimum wage. By improving the health of
many Americans, medical care cost would also change. Zhou Chen and David Meltzer conducted a
research if both the obesity rates and minimum wage are connected in a way. By using the data from
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System also known as BRFSS, Chen and Meltzer were able to
find a connection between the two. BRFSS interviews more than 350,000 adults each year, making it
the largest health survey in the world.
Through the PSID DaeHwan and J. Paul Leigh found that low wage does increase obesity and body
mass by a statistical test. Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) is a long term survey of a set of
households in the United States. Around $190 billion dollars are spent on obesity each year in medical
bills. If the minimum wage raised, there would be a ten percent decrease in

The College Republicans Of Liberty University
Final Critique
The client that my group chose to work with was the College Republicans of Liberty University. Since
this semester was during presidential election cycle, the client was happy to have our assistance with
helping promote the club. During this semester, many challenges occurred that both the club and our
group faced; however, we were able to accomplish the goals that the client wanted to accomplish from
our project.
Goal and Organization at Initial Development of Project
At the beginning of the semester, our group spoke with the client to develop several goals that they
wanted our group to achieve throughout this semester. After speaking to the Vice Chairman John
Wood (2016), one of the main tasks that he wanted our group to assist the club with accomplishing
was to use the election to boost engagement within the club for both club meeting attendance and also
visibility on social media. Since the media was covering he election for a large part of the day, Wood
discussed the idea that since the media is covering the election for a large part of the day, politics is on
the mind of people more now than it would be during midterm elections. By using the fact that the
election is top of mind for many individuals at Liberty, the club wanted to take advantage of this
season and also gain members. The last goal that the club wanted to accomplish was to increase voter
registration and voter turnout on Election Day.
Goal Changes

Literary Themes In The Film Open Range
The film Open Range shares similarities with the literary pieces that have been read, as well as the
primary source given. In the film, as Boss, Charlie, and Buttons go back to the town after Mouse
doesn t join them again, they find him abused by the ranchers. When they go and confront the
marshall, they find him to be fraudulent. The primary source and the readings had the common theme
of white male corruption. The ranchers and the marshalls were abusive and felt as they were entitled to
power. That attitude and sense of entitlement lead to the destruction of the relationship between
natives and Americans. Another correspondence is the way those men govern their people. In The
Fight of Nez Perces, the governor could not comprehend such an attitude. He urged Old Joseph to sign
the treaty and receive presents of blankets. (317)The governor had used manipulation tactics to receive
what he wanted. The men in the film governed similarly. They were physically abusive and and instill
fear in their people. Lastly, although the not same, is the will people to defend their way of life. In The
Flight of the Nez Perces, Old Joseph had refused to sign the governor treaties multiple times. He had
certain beliefs for example, no man owned any part of the earth, and a man could not sell what he did
not own, when the governo wanted their land. Old Joseph stuck to his beliefs and fought for what he
considered to be right. Similarly, in the film, Boss and Charlie, fight and defend the

society. Formal schooling was not systematic in America in the mid 1800s, despite the regional efforts
of strong advocates for public education. There were wide regional and cultural differences in
attitudes toward the idea of tax supported, systematic formal schooling based upon a common

responsibility to political authority. In the Southern states, slavery and a strong caste system were
impediments to the development of public schools (p. 97). The influx of huge numbers of immigrants

fearful for their jobs. This volatile situation created even more support for systematic public education

Character Analysis Of A Separate Peace
Separating Peace Character By Character
A Separate Peace is a novel based around a group of high school boys in a private college preparatory
school named Devon. Most of Devon s students want, have, and search for peace throughout their
time at school. Upon return from summer break, each character searches for and discovers their own
peace. Each character has found or withheld a certain peace, in real life. Each separate peace is
exposed throughout fatal or cheerful events. The words separate and peace represent a variety of ideas
in Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. I believe author John Knowles chose this
title to imply individuals may possess their own unique peace.

He was always fully at peace there and did not care what the others thought about that. There are so
many people who love to be outside just to be there and admire the scene. I completely relate,
especially during the summer.
During the times that I was spending my time alone I felt completely friendless and without
acquaintances. I eventually became used to it and it was not so bad. When I did end up in a group like
Leper did with Gene, Finny, Chet, and Bobby, I felt better about myself. I also met a new girl in my
grade who was always by herself. I felt bad and began to talk to her. She would not force herself on
anyone and was really quiet and shy and would stay by herself if needs be. She was really excited to
make new friends and we hit it right off. A body can be peaceful, being alone to revel in their own
version of entertainment, but still with a group of pals. This is one specific peace that can fill a person.
There are so many more and a couple of other categories were demonstrated through the writing, each
showing in a different main character.
The title does not necessarily stand just for being happy when alone. It can also be interpreted to being
a peace if being talkative, surrounded by close buddies, having healthy, silly, crazy relationships with
everyone, and doing the possible and anything off the beaten path (such as breaking the rules and
jumping out of a tree). In the text there is one constantly

unprepared. Certainly that is the case witnessed on many levels at the attack at Pearl Harbor. Sailors
rested on Sunday morning, unprepared for the sneak attack; commanders were off ship, enjoying golf
or a leisurely breakfast, completely caught off guard when the bombs fell; and the fleet itself was
unprepared, with most of its ships at anchor in the harbor, making relatively easy targets for Japanese
bombers. Descriptions of being caught unaware dominate personal narratives of that day and the days
that followed, both from those who experienced the events, and from political and military leaders
across the ocean back in the states.
Once the realization of just how unprepared the United States was for war sank in, both within
American leadership and citizenry, efforts turned to preparation. The U.S. government mobilized on
an institutional level unprecedented in American history. The U.S. government organized industry and
manufacturing, agriculture and food production, and its people into the war effort. And of course there
was the buildup of the military forces, with increased budgets, increased enlistment, and expedited
training for new troops.
The buildup of the American war machine took time, however, and in the interim, shortages during the
early months of the war ran rampant. Terms such as unprepared and

Pricing Strategy For A Product
Pricing strategy refers to the steps taken by a company to determine the optimal price for a product.
Among the four Ps, pricing strategy is unique in that it is the only one that generates cash turnover for
the firm, the other three are expenses (Learnmarketing.net, n.d.). Pricing strategy also has a significant
impact on positioning strategy, as price has a great impact on how the consumer will perceive the
product. For example, different pricing strategies for two similar goods can affect whether one brand
is seen as a premium product over another.
When it comes to retail stores carrying products from multiple companies, there are slightly different
pricing strategies than when discussing pricing set my manufacturers. Common retail ... Show more

In addition to giving the customer the sense that the item is already being sold at a good price, and
therefore comparison shopping is unnecessary, it also saves money for the company by reducing their
advertising costs. In the case of Walmart, they buy feature advertisements once a month in newspapers
when their competitors advertised weekly (Boundless.com, 2015). Prior to their adaptation of EDLP,
J.C. Penney spent heavily on this in order to promote sales and offer coupons to their customers to
drive sales under their high/low pricing strategy. An EDLP strategy would free up the funds used to
buy advertising and to pay employees to change the signage in the store to offer a fixed, discounted
price to the consumer.
In addition to reducing expenditure on promotions, EDLP can create a more steady sales process,
rather than the peaks and valleys of high/low. As Ron Johnson, the CEO who transitioned J.C. Penney
to EDLP noted Wal Mart taught us all in the 80s when you get a steady sales process, what happens?
You can manage the business better (Associated Press, 2012). EDLP has cemented Walmart s
reputation as a low price leader, and serves as an excellent example for the ways EDLP can help a
business streamline their supply chain, as an EDLP strategy has a more predictable demand curve.
EDLP is also very simple for the consumer to understand, and can become a part of branding strategy
for the company as well.
However, EDLP is not without its

Declaration Of Independence Persuasive Essay
I couldn t happen, but notice the terrible disagreement you engaged in with your dearest lover Allie.
The way you two were talking to each other and the words that were exchanged appeared to be a huge
conflict. To begin, the first problem you seem to have is relationship dissolution. Relationship
dissolution is the breaking or dissolving of the bonds that hold the relationship together. A huge reason
behind this may be because you are very verbally abusive. When you called Allie names such as pain
in the ass it did not help, but make the conflict worse. Instead of calling Allie names you should seek
to engage in more productive communication such as, not using vulgar words or explaining the issue
is a more appropriate manner. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Force is when you are act like you are in control and do not give the other person an alternate choice,
but to choose your opinion. Allie needs time to think over her decision. Seemingly, as you are
discussing the issue you are putting an exuberant amount force on Allie to choose you. This is very
unfair because it takes away from what Allie wishes to do. As you are forcing your opinion on Allie, it
takes away her ability to form an opinion on her own. This problem is seen through your conflict as
you make statements such as, Would you just stay with me? or Well I hate you. If you leave here. I
hate you . Each of these statements force Allie into wanting to stay with you instead of giving her
space to make her own decision. A possible solution to this problem would be to use active listening.
Active listening is requiring the listener to be fully concentrated and open to what the other individual
is trying to communicate. While you are actively listening you must not make any judgements about
what Allie is saying. Active listening will allow for you to hear Allie s opinion without adding your
judgement in. Also, this solution will help Allie feel more appreciated and accepted by you. If you
were able to fully listen to what Allie is saying, you most likely would avoid forcing your own opinion

  • 2. Improving Education Through Cultural Diversity In today s society, I ve learned that cultural diversity is important and it has been for many centuries ago. The dictionary states that cultural diversity is the cohabitation of different values, cultural, sex and race in one definite component. In America today cultural diversity has been an everyday expression in the education world. Some have a misunderstanding of what it may mean. We must have some type of order if we plan to be successful when it comes to having a diverse school. This happens within our own learning services where our children and our students are well educated. This thesis is improving education through cultural diversity and how American can see it as trying to co existing in many different way across the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think it is a good ideas to teach children about what is right from wrong when they are young. I like to tell children that they can work better together when they fully understand each other. Now and days students have tons of technology in the classroom that most people feel that will help them learn. Others feel like technology blocks student from learning because they depend on google. I ve heard some students say that if you don t know the answer then you can just google it. Children are being raised in the technology generation where technology is everywhere. But why stop children from using technology when that s all that is big shown on television, in the media, magazines, radio, etc. From reading a new article from Pinellas County School District I learned that the children from Tarpon Springs Elementary school are via video chatting with student from Greece. I find that to be a great idea to have children interact through technology. Why? Because the questions that the children are asking some teacher do not know because they have never been to Greece to experience the things that the children over there have experienced. In case of emergency, how do you get off the island (Reeves, 2016). A fifth grader asked that question, I felt that whatever question that the children asked were all good questions. In the article it did not state all the questions but I m pretty sure that some students had question about their school activities in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people assume that athletics in education are a blessing and not a necessary evil. Athletics keep truancy issues low and school spirits high, but come at a cost of the disappointing the athlete and could quite possibly scar him or her for the rest of their lives. In discussions of school sports, one controversial issue has always been if sports are truly good for the student. On the one hand, those for athletics argue that basic social skills and discipline are taught and enforced. The And Gold Tour Bus From Louisiana State University On Losing Everything This past week I saw that purple and gold tour bus from Louisiana State University in my town, not only surprising me but also forcing me to think back on my childhood in the south. Growing up in southern Louisiana one must be prepared for major storms and flooding at less than a day s notice. Hurricanes are powerful storms that can ravish towns and can be deadly for people and animals alike. Hurricane Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast in August of 2005, and I was in the midst of that wreckage. Most storms that would make it to the area I used to live usually lost strength by the time it got to us. For the weaker storms, the kids would get a mini vacation from school, and the parents got a much needed break from work. At the time, I thought everyone in Louisiana and especially New Orleans were not ready for what was coming. Louisiana is a laid back state, due to its French roots. The catch phrase for the state was always Laissez Les Bon Temps rouler, or Let the good times roll! So, it s easy to see why the media portrayed Louisianan s as not caring about the tropical storm that was headed our way. We did care, we were just expecting much less than what we received. I think a good way to describe this is that people from California have been through many earthquakes and are prepared for them, but would you stop living your life for a small earthquake that might not happen? Probably not. My family tried to be as prepared as we possibly could, but there is only so much money to go around buying things for situations that might not even happen. Neil Postman Throughout the span of the past few weeks I have traversed the globe, visiting several countries and regions, only to realize that although new methods develop, language as a way of expressing ones self has remained the most effective. Despite this fact, language still has its pitfalls. Neil Postman, in his essay #8220;Defending Against the Indefensible, #8221; outlines seven concepts that can be used to aid a student in better understanding the language as a means of communication. Postman argues that if a student were to see hidden meaning in a word, then they could use it to their defense. It is my belief that Postman may be correct now, what about in the future. If attention were turned to smaller words, then surely our vocabulary will diminish, and the same thing that happened to words such as true, and false, will happen to words such as semantic, and pedagogical. Vocabulary tests should be left as they are. If a student wishes to study words of everyday use, read a book, or watch television. The next principle was thought provoking as well. The use of a metaphor as a tool in education is rarely used, as Postman notes. #8220;Unless our students are aware of how metaphors shape arguments, organize perceptions, and control feelings, their understanding is severely limited. Postman displays how most political speeches are laced with metaphors, and how teacher #8217;s methods are shaped by a metaphor. A student who doesn #8217;t understand a metaphor, or when it is being applied tends to have a more closed outlook. A metaphor, used as a communication skill, is best described in a political way. Think of Reagan #8217;s Voodoo economics, or Bill Clinton building a bridge to the 21st century. Politicians can easily scam an ignorant voter, should one not understand a metaphor. • 23. The Crime And Crime Prevention In the world there are many social problems and most of them affect each and every one of us, such as cancer or Ebola. One that stands out is the rise in crime in America. Crime is huge in America although law enforcement say they are doing something about and have it handled, the truth is it is out of control. Stated in America.Net in an article online Attorney General Eric Holder spoke at the Project Safe Neighborhoods annual conference in New Orleans on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 and endorsed three crime control strategies. Law enforcement through cooperative efforts between police, community and prosecutors to reduce violent crime, and the incarceration of high risk offenders. Project Safe Neighborhoods. Crime prevention by addressing underlying social issues. Reentry programs to assist offenders returning from prison. If these programs are being put in place then there should be a decreased incidence of crime in America. People can t even leave their homes without having to worry if something is going to happen to them. This is a growing concern in America, but what is America doing to prevent this from happening? There are many organizations working on the issue of crime to reduce the number of incidences. There is one main contributing factor lead increases the likelihood of crime and that is poverty. Which goes on to further boost the positive stereotypes associated with Asian Americans, and that became a form of symbolic capital that benefits Asian American students in educational contexts. Teachers favored Asian American students because they were perceived as bright, hard working, better prepared, and more willing to put in effort into their homework (Lee and Zhou 17). These perceptions affected the grades Asian American students would receive, extra help were offered with their coursework and college applications, and their likelihood of being placed into academic programs and competitive academic tracks. This help further the theory of stereotype promise, in which Asian American students began to see themselves the way that teachers and society sees them with the idea of Asian American Exceptionalism. In results, it led to the self fulfilling prophecy, where it begins with a false definition of the situation, evoking a new behaviour, which makes the original false conception come true (Lee and Zhou 18). Both Asian American students and teachers began to believe that all Asians are high achieving, which resulted a change in the student s behavior, and ultimately, a change in their academic outcome. ... The vigilant mistress of Karnak. Mighty ruler in her Theban temple. She whose spirit exists because her temple endures. She whose temple and city will exist for millions of years 1. This writing comes from a hymn on a stela praising Mut. This stela praising one of the prominent goddesses of Egypt shows the great praise and proclamations given to their religious figures. Another such example of Egypt s adoration for their gods is in the statue of Sekhmet, one of the many other statues found at the Temple of Mut. The statue stands as another representation of not only Egypt s growing religious movements, but of the growing artistic movements in sculpting as well and the appreciation the higher powers of Egyptians had on their gods and religion. The Statue of the Goddess Sekhmet is currently held at the Royal Ontario Museum in the Ancient Egypt exhibit with the inventory number, 2007. 68. 1. When President Abraham Lincoln addressed the nation in his Gettysburg address he expressed the bloodshed from the civil war would bring about a new birth of freedom for the American people and nation. During the 19th century and in the aftermath of the civil war, white southerners engaged in a ruthless and never ending cycle of violence against African Americans. The terror that was inflicted by whites onto African Americans resulted in 4,743 of African Americans being tortured, and lynched between the years of 1882 1968. In the Ida B wells book The Red Record she explains that lynching wasn t just about accused crimes of the African American man, but the lynching of African American men in the community who were Black people who were educated or business men. When they go and confront the marshall, they find him to be fraudulent. The primary source and the readings had the common theme of white male corruption. Formal schooling was not systematic in America in the mid 1800s, despite the regional efforts of strong advocates for public education. Various religious groups had established schools for the perpetuation of their theology and culture, especially in the mid Atlantic and Northern states. These groups were fearful of relinquishing responsibility to political authority. In the Southern states, slavery and a strong caste system were impediments to the development of public schools (p. 97). The influx of huge numbers of immigrants exacerbated religious and cultural tensions and engendered conflicts with American workers who were fearful for their jobs. • 42. Aspects Of Inadequacies Throughout World War II Essay Aspects of Inadequacies throughout World War II The state of America s military forces at the outset of World War II can be summed up in one word: unprepared. Certainly that is the case witnessed on many levels at the attack at Pearl Harbor. Sailors rested on Sunday morning, unprepared for the sneak attack; commanders were off ship, enjoying golf or a leisurely breakfast, completely caught off guard when the bombs fell; and the fleet itself was unprepared, with most of its ships at anchor in the harbor, making relatively easy targets for Japanese bombers. Descriptions of being caught unaware dominate personal narratives of that day and the days that followed, both from those who experienced the events, and from political and military leaders across the ocean back in the states. Once the realization of just how unprepared the United States was for war sank in, both within American leadership and citizenry, efforts turned to preparation. The U.S. government mobilized on an institutional level unprecedented in American history. The U.S. government organized industry and manufacturing, agriculture and food production, and its people into the war effort. And of course there was the buildup of the military forces, with increased budgets, increased enlistment, and expedited training for new troops. The buildup of the American war machine took time, however, and in the interim, shortages during the early months of the war ran rampant. Terms such as unprepared and ...
