Mount Everest Formation
bles
Term Paper
GEO 150
February 24, 2016
Introduction
Mount Everest is commonly know as the highest mountain on earth located in Nepal and Tibet in the
Mahalangur mountain range. With a peak of 8,848 meters or 29,029 feet above sea level, Mount
Everest is the location of the international border between China and Nepal neighboring with peaks
such as Lhoste, Nuptse and Changtse.
Rock Descriptions
The rocks that comprise Mount Everst are subdivided into three formations, each separated from one
another by low angle faults or detachments. The three formations consist of sedimentary and
metamorphic rocks and are the Qomolangma Formation, the North Col Formation and the Rongbuk
Formation. The Qomolangma formation is the top peak of the mountain ... Show more content on

The portion of the Qomolangma formation that is between 8,200 to the top of 8,600 is called the
yellow band. The reason it s called the yellow band is because of the Cambrian deposit and marble its
made up of which resembles a yellow pigment. In the North Col formation, mudstone, limestone and
sandstone are imbedded within each other as a result of the metamorphic stage. The base of this
formation is referred to as the Lhoste detachment and is a low angle normal fault. About 24 million
years ago when the Indian and the Asian planes collided, the Indian plane subducted as a result. From
this the Indian plateau was made which thus created the metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. We can
find these rocks faulted towards the south in an upward motion primarily due to the Cenozoic collision
of the two continents. The Many sills and dikes intrude the rocks in this formation as previously
mentioned as the Higher Himalayan leucogranite, which is formed by partial melting of
Paleoproterozoic to Ordovician high grade metasedimentary rocks. This melting inhibited the creation
of the Rongbuk formation by the pressure caused by the collision that forced the rocks into a
downward then back up direction. The heat of the melting under sea level then pushed the rocks to the
surface of the southern

Leadership That Gets Results By Daniel Goleman Essay
In the article Leadership that Gets Results, Daniel Goleman suggests that there is a relationship
between three concepts: the elements of emotional intelligence, the six leadership styles, and an
organization s climate. Describe the way he believes that these concepts influence each other. You may
include a drawing with boxes, arrows, and the like if that helps you to explain your thinking.
Ultimately, he argues that these concepts influence organizational performance. Do you think he
makes a compelling case for his position? The article of Leadership That Gets Results provides the six
leadership styles for individuals to understand how leadership styles influence on an organization s
climate. Furthermore, the six leadership styles are consisted of the emotional intelligence: self
awareness, self management, social awareness, and social skill. Therefore, these three concepts, such
as the six leadership styles, the elements of emotional intelligence, and an organization s climate, will
influence each other because the research found that individuals with different emotional intelligence
competencies will have distinct leadership styles. Subsequently, with the distinct leadership styles,
leaders will utilize their own leadership styles to lead their group, team, division, or corporation. Thus,
it will bring about a unique impact on an organization s climate and in turn, on its financial
performance (Goleman, 2000, p.79). Moreover, leaders with their own emotional

Whale Rider Essay
In the Whale Rider, Nani Flowers is a stronger role model than Koro. She always advocated for Kahu,
and continuously stood up against Koro s traditional beliefs about women. Secondly, Nani Flower was
forgiving and altruistic towards everyone, even with Koro, in spite of his rigid attitude with Kahu. In
contrast, Koro was blinded by tradition, thus making Kahu feel as if she was not good enough for
Koro simply due to the fact that she was a girl, a factor she could not control. Therefore, Nani Flowers
is evidently the better role model. Nani Flowers has always supported Kahu. When Kahu was first
born, Koro Apirana was against Kahu just being named after his ancestor, so burying her birth cord
anywhere near the long house would be very unacceptable in his eyes (page 25). Even with this in
mind, Nani still buried Kahu s birthcord In the sight of Kahutia Te Rangi (page 29). Another example
of this supportive behavior is when Kahu came home crying because of Koro, and the whales dying in
the movie (pages 46 48). Not only did Nani argue with her husband, Koro, she kicked him out because
he would not reconcile his traditional beliefs about Maori leadership and rights with Kahu s birth
(page 48). Lastly, throughout the whole novel, Nani Flowers has repeatedly encouraged and stood up
for Kahu, especially against Koro s outlook on Kahu (pages 38, 50, 56 57, 89). ... Show more content

he apologized. In other words, she basically put up with a sexist man who disregarded her, and her
granddaughter, and forgave after he relented. Hence, Nani was a very caring and forgiving

The First Law Passed By The Massachusetts Bay Colony
1. PAST LEGISLATION In the mid 1600 s, the first law passed by the Massachusetts Bay Colony
mandated that children start learning the fundamental of education; learn basic reading and writing by
reading the bible and the town s laws. It was believed that for the success and evolution of the world
and specifically their colony, children needed to be educated and knowledgeable. Furthermore, to
strengthen the educational foundation that was forming and with some resistance from parents, a law
was passed in 1647 commissioning the towns create and maintain public schools. Moving forward,
Smith Hughes Act of 1917 commissioned federal revenue to create and support of secondary and
postsecondary vocational training. Emphasis were placed on instruction in agriculture, home
economics, and trades and industry. This act along with the demand for change and other outlets for
education, open the doors for trades that prepared people for jobs. Legislation during this time
contended that this was the best step moving forward to focus on skills to ensure people were
workplace ready. Several years later in 1958, the National Defense Education Act contributed
additional federal dollars to the schools to raise awareness and to heighten the fundamental
importance and priority to focus on STEM. STEM provides instructions in Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math. During this time, emphasis was also placed on strengthening the foreign
languages and provided financial resources and support

Book Review Of A Stolen Life By Jaycee Dugard
The book A Stolen Life is about Jaycee Dugard, who is also the author. The genre of the book is
fiction and is an autobiography. The book is about Jaycee Dugard who lived in South Lake Tahoe,
California. While walking to school one day Jaycee was abducted by Philip and Nancy Garrido and
held captive in a room on their property for eighteen years. Throughout captivity Jaycee was sexually
assaulted many times by Philip. She was also told many lies from the Garrido s such as Your family
doesn t love you anymore or You have nowhere else to go which convinced Jaycee to listen to Philip
and not try to escape. The setting took place in South Lake Tahoe, California at Jaycees home in the
beginning of the story, but mostly took place in the Garrido s home in Antioch, California. ... Show

Jaycee was shy, kind, and loved her family. Jaycee was a dynamic character because we know a lot
about her such as her thoughts and feeling about her family and Philip and Nancy. The story was told
from her point of view so we were told everything that she saw herd and felt. Jaycee was a round
character because she changed throughout the story such as when she was abducted and no longer
lived with her family and had to live with Philip and Nancy. Some other important characters are
Philip Garrido, Nancy Garrido, and Jaycees mom and sister. Philip Garrido had already abducted and
raped several children before Jaycee. Philip Garrido was sentenced to 431 years in prison after being
caught by the parole officer for abducting Jaycee. Philip heard voices that he called angels , and used
them to blame everything on Jaycee and tell her many lies. Philip is a dynamic character because we

felt about Nancy, and abusing animals. Philip is a round character because he changes throughout the

Compare And Contrast The Outsiders And The Outsiders
In the 1950 s everything in America was great it was a very illustrious decade in history. We stood,
summit of the world as the Prime of Britain commented. The US had the strongest, uttermost powerful
military at the time. Our economy was booming. Cars, food, and house were more available than ever.
Equally important, was Tulsa, Oklahoma, dubbed as America s Most beautiful city. Tulsa s economy
was booming as well. the oil business was successful. After World War II America was great. But like
most things you can t judge a book by its cover. The education in America was worse than ever. Some
kids wouldn t receive proper discipline. And with that, They didn t know right from wrong. Just like
both gangs in The Outsiders especially the Socs. In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy Curtis is
having a hard life not only did his parents died 8 months before. He is a part of the greasers, a gang of
poor, middle to lower class teens who live in the slums. Still, that doesn t matter because they are
family. On the other hand, and side of town are the Socs a clan of rich stuck up children who get
everything in their heart s desire. The Soc do crime to get attention or just because they can. Likewise,
they are criminals that are made. Their family life/ situations make them into who they are and how
the Socs act. At the same time, the relationships in the Socs influence the traits that are perceived by
the Socs from the Greasers. Also, the society defines them, making barriers, some people break the
barriers. Still, more people spend their life inside the living by definition of who they are, assigned by
society. In The Outsiders, the Soc, who are criminals, are made not born because of the family
situation and their lifestyle. One of the Socs is Bob. Like most Socs, he was dealt the right cards so to
say, in life. He was, ....a good guy....he was a real person too, (Hinton 116). That meaning, he had
everything that he needed. Supporting parents, a house, and a legitimate future in their life ahead. All
of a sudden, his life change. His mother had a nervous breakdown. Instantly, the parents spoiled Bob
rotten. As Randy, another Socs noticed Bob s change, he states, he started to criminalize, all because
he wanted

The Poster Girl For Mexican And Feministic Art
Frida Kahlo was not predestined to be the poster girl for Mexican and feministic Art and part of one of
the most talked about marriages of the XXth century.
She was born into a lower class home in the suburbs of Mexico City. Her mother (whom she called mi
jefe my chief (Herrera, 1983, p14)) brought her up to be a good housewife and a believer (Herrera,
1983).
Although she only started getting involved with it later, it was her father whom played a big part into
her discovery of the arts (Herrera, 1983). It could be believed the concept of male female
collaboration was always present in her life as her father, a photographer brought Frida along to work
whenever he needed help. Her first serious encounter with painting occurred after she survived a car
crash whose injuries left her in a full body cast for three month and on extended bed rest (Herrera,
1983). Seeing their daughter fall into despair from this intense physical pain and loneliness, Frida s
mother had an easel made for her and her father lent her paints (Herrera, 1983). Because she could not
get out of bed, she started painting what was available to her: portraits of friends [...], family [...] and
of herself (Herrera, 1983, p64). It was at this time Kahlo started her self portrait series, a style which
later would earn her the praises of Pablo Picasso and / became famous and praised for. Although she
had never envisioned an artistic career for herself, Frida was very ambitious with her work and

Feminist Perspectives In Criminology
This essay presents an insightful discourse on the contributions Feminist theories and perspectives
have made within the field of Criminology. It will illustrate development of these perspectives as well
as their enhancement of our understanding of women as both perpetrators and victims of crime.
Moreover, this paper will examine how the criminal justice system has historically responded to male
and female offenders and victims on a national and global scale.
Historically, researchers of females within crime have habitually been male (Crowther Dowey,
Silvestri, 2008). Feminist perspectives in Criminology have had an exceptional influence on the way
women are understood, both as perpetrators and victims of crime. One of the fundamental themes
within Feminist criminology is its strong focus on gender (primarily female) at the core of its
discourse and analysis of crime (Chesney lind, Morash 2013). Most Criminological theory and
research has been conducted by male Criminologists, focused on male offenders, and criminal justice
system responses to male offenders, overlooking women in crime, subsequently leading to accusations
of mainstream Criminology s gender ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminists support the idea that women experience victimisation and an intrinsically different way to
men. For example, from the Feminist perspective, there is thought to be a stronger possibility that
women will be victimised by a close friend or family member than any other person (Natarajan
Ciobanu 2010). Radical Feminists attribute this to the social institutions and norms facilitating the
victimisation of women. Feminist Criminological research has also facilitated in reshaping
Criminology s understanding of domestic violence. Considerable amounts of research surrounding
domestic violence stems from work that used the Conflict Tactics Scale (Straus and Gelles

Folic Acid Essay
Folic Acid is a B vitamin, specifically B9. It is an essential nutrient required by the body to create
healthy new cells. While we hear about it mostly in regards to pregnancy, it is important to understand
that the need for folic acid goes even beyond this. Folic acid is essential for the body to create red
blood cells which in turn prevents anemia. It is also plays an important role in the metabolism of
homocysteine, an amino acid.
The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for all men and women 14 and older is 400 mcg. Men
often don t realize this as the benefits to pregnant women are more publicized, but any human being is
in need of proper amounts of folic acid to insure the body is able to create new red blood cells to

Folic acid plays many important roles in the body. There is no doubting that it is essential. The reason
that we need a constant stream of it is because it is not stored in large quantities in the body. It is water
soluble. Fat soluble vitamins are stored for longer in our system. When ingested, the body uses what it
can and the rest comes out in urine, in very little time the body will need more. We discussed how
pregnant women get a proven benefit, and studies continue on its role in reducing risks of other
diseases, but regardless of what additional benefits are found, it is clear that without folic acid in our
bodies, we would not be alive. Folic acid aids in the production of red blood cells and the synthesis of
DNA and RNA. Folate even has a role in the digestive system! It works with vitamins B12 and C to
help the body digest and synthesize proteins. Lastly, folic acid helps tissues grow and cells function, it
is an integral part of the body working as it should.
You might wonder what would happen if you stopped consuming folic acid in the form of
supplements or foods. One consequence that is quite likely under these conditions is folate deficiency
anemia. This type of anemia occurs when red cell production slows and the body no longer has a
sufficient amount. Without enough red blood cells, oxygen cannot travel around the body quick
enough. In a severe form, where the body is not making

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Birds
In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds, usually tame birds seem to attack people at random. These bird
attacks cause fear in the town, but could the fear be causing the attacks? Sever emotional turmoil or
desires of the characters in the movie are the cause of the bird attacks. Melanie, Mitch, and Lydia s
inner havoc is shown through the bird attacks.
The first bird attack occurs when Melanie is on the water and the seagull flies into her head. This
seagull represents Mitch s confusion about his feelings for Melanie as he watches her drop the love
birds off at his house. His confusion about his feelings is manifested in the bird attack and how him
and Melanie can hurt each other. The seagull attack is also a foreshadowing for Melanie of what is to

Summary (max 250 words)
The design project was about a desalination process making use of superheated steam from the solar
system as electricity and using waste heat in the heat exchangers to produce pure water which can be
used for domestic activities. Basic data was provided and some assumptions were made to aid the
mass and energy balance.
After the mass and energy balance was completed and the flow rates and salt content for all streams
obtained, the heat duty required by each heat exchanger was also estimated from the values obtained
in the mass and energy balance and also using the specific heats required. The heat transfer area of the
heat exchangers were calculated as well based on the heat duty, heat transfer coefficient of each heat
exchanger and the log mean temperature difference which was found by determining the temperatures

Trends And Issues Of Non Profit Management Essay

Abstract
The challenge of nonprofit leadership can prove to be daunting for even the most optimistic of
individuals. The nonprofit industry is and expanding revolution, a force said to influence national and
global economies. Domestically, the nonprofit sector accounts for more than half of America s general
hospitals, nearly half of its education institutions and most of its family service agencies (Rowe,
2013), opportunities created by economic and political failures. In the wake of rapid development,
environmental pressures, economic impact, and growing challenges, nonprofits are being placed under
a microscope, being pushed to take more strategic approaches to NPO management and to apply
sound business principals. For a novice in nonprofit leadership, such as I, the endeavor of creating a
sustainable organization in such a competitive environment can be intimidating.
In the text, Introduction to Nonprofit Management, Rowe and Conway present the key theories of
NPO management through case studies. The examination of these cases highlight managerial issues
and trends that lead to the success and failures of many NPOs. This paper will analyze the areas of
management most foundationally critical to the survival and growth of a start up nonprofit
organization. Board selection, board governance, and leadership, are the steering wheel

The Battle Of The St. Lawrence Seaway
The Battle of the St. Lawrence Seaway refers to the attacks on Allied shipping in the Gulf of the St.
Lawrence from 1942 through to the end of the shipping season in 1944 . German submarines,
commonly called U boats, entered into these Canadian waters to hinder and delay Allied supplies from
reaching Britain across the Atlantic . However, Allied convoys still made voyages to Britain and back,
constantly supplying them with goods. Sailing across the middle of the Atlantic itself was considered
far more dangerous than just leaving the Canadian ports. Therefore, through examining Germany s
intent for entering the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, effect on Allied shipping, and subsequent response by
the Allies with respect to the attacks, it can be shown that U boats entering into Canadian waters had
very little impact on impeding Allied shipping. Allied shipping from North America to Britain needed
to supply at least a million tonnes of goods to allow Britain to survive and fight against the Axis .
Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Britain for the duration of the Second World War, called the
Battle of the Atlantic the [most] dominating factor all through the war. Never for one moment could
we forget that everything happening elsewhere, on land, at sea or in the air depended ultimately on its
outcome . Therefore, whoever held the upper hand in the Battle of the Atlantic held the advantage in
supplies for the war. Germany decided to employ their U boats to try to delay and strike

Dangerous Toys for Our Children As a mother, there is no greater concern than the safety of our
children. Yet with the recent reports of lead in toys for kids, mothers and fathers alike now have a new

The magnets can stick to one another through human tissue, leading to punctures. According to the
CPSC s website, the children suffered intestinal tears that required surgery. The company has ordered
that all products be pulled off retail shelves, said Nancy Nord, acting chairwoman of the Consumer
Product Safety Commission. The 1.5 million toys recalled by Fisher Price s preschool division
included Elmo, Big Bird, and Dora, all made in China. The recall was prompted by concerns about
lead paint and risks associated with small, high powered magnets (CNN, 2007). According to the
executive vice president for Mattel International, the dangerous levels of lead paint came from the
subcontractor of a vendor that did not use certified paint. The subcontractor has been associated with
this company for 20 years. Eckert said Mattel has changed the way it attaches magnets to its toys to
make them safer. These recent statements mark the latest in a series of recalls of defective products
made in China, which is the second largest trading partner of the United States after Canada.
Incidentally, China produces 80 percent of the world s toys. To prevent these problems from recurring,
Nord said the Chinese manufacturers are coming to Washington, D.C. this fall for product safety
training sessions (CNN, 2007). In conclusion, we must make sure that our government lives up to its

Elder Abuse Research
Assignment 1
Introduction
The research interest topic is the prevalence of elder abuse and neglect found in selected Ohio nursing
homes and what, if any consequences the nursing homes encounter if elder abuse cases are
substantiated. A theory consists of a body of ideas regarding a particular phenomenon or topic (Cozby
Bata, 2012). Therefore, a theory seeks the truth from reasoned known facts, which serves as a basis of
investigation (Burnight Mosqueda, 2011). The purpose of this paper is to develop a theoretical
perspective.
Theoretical Perspective
There is no uniform definition of elder abuse, which poses numerous challenges for researchers and/or
policy makers (Norris et al., 2013). As a result, the theories used to research elder ... Show more

The routine activities theory was used as a conceptual framework to research elder abuse in nursing
homes. Payne and Gainey (2006) used the routine activities theory as a guide to research elder abuse
in nursing home from a crime perspective. Therefore, the first element in routine activities theory was
used because certain nursing homes could put pressures on individuals who would not typically
commit a crime against an elderly resident (Payne Gainey, 2006). In addition, a nursing home could
attract offenders who desire the power and/or control over individuals that are weaker than the
offender is (Payne Gainey, 2006). Consequently, for the suitable target element nursing home residents
could be the targets and/or their personal belongings (Payne Gainey, 2006). Finally, the capable
guardian element could be nursing assistants or a place manager, a camera, or a locked door (Payne
Gainey, 2006). Therefore, it is reasonable to suggest that the lifestyles of elderly residents in nursing
homes and/or other institutional care put them at risk for victimization (Payne Gainey, 2006). Overall,
the routine activities theory in the 2006 research study examined who is involved in elder abuse cases,
the activities committed, how vulnerability influences the existence of abuse and how the criminal
justice system serves as a guardian, and whether or not

Henry Lawson Leadership Style
New Sacramento Kings head coach George Karl is reportedly adamant in getting his former starting
point guard Ty Lawson from the Denver Nuggets, as per HNGN. With the Nuggets latest hiring of
Mike Malone, the 64 year old Karl is well aware that the man he replaced in Sacramento is more of a
slow down, half court set type of coach. And he also knows that a slow paced game is something that
would not be interesting or rewarding for his former player. Not to mention that Lawson s foremost
skill and offensive weapon, his speed, will not be maximized in a rigid style of offense. In reality, the
5 foot 11 former North Carolina Tar Heel had long been the subject of trade rumors since February.
His name has time and again been linked to other NBA teams such as the Boston Celtics, Dallas

Bleacher Report s Andrew Gould hinted that there must be something about the point guard that
makes teams reluctant to trade for him. He hinted that it must be his leadership qualities, which is said
to be not at par with the other elite floor generals in the NBA such as Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, and
John Wall. An article at Upside Motor said that Lawson is a borderline All Star, which means he is not
yet tested when it comes to big time games. It was also speculated in the same article that the Nuggets
are trying to package Lawson with their no. 7 pick to trade for the Knicks no. 4 pick in order to draft
Emmanuel Mudiay, but there had been no clear conclusions yet. If Malone is intent on continuing with
his slow styled in game coaching philosophy, then keeping Lawson would not make any sense. As just

As much as I enjoy musicals, most songs are about men, either women singing about men and how
they desire a man or haw men have done them wrong, or men singing them. Where are, the songs
belted out by the ladies for the ladies? That s where feminism comes into play. Feminism is one of the
most important social themes. Feminism is a range of social movements, and political movements that
share a common goal, to achieve, establish, and define personal, economic, political, and social rights
for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in employment and
education. Feminist movements have campaigned and continue to campaign for women s rights. They
fight for women s right to vote, hold public office, earn fair wages, work, equal pay, receive education,
own property and more. Five musical plays that speak on the topic of feminism is Wicked, The Color
Purple, Funny Girl Yentl and Mary Poppins. Wicked is an alternative telling of The wizard of the Oz
told from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz. The Color Purple focus on the life of
African American women, addressing numerous issues, including their lower positions in American
social culture. Funny Girl is based on the life and career of Broadway Star, film actress and Comedian
Fanny Brice. Yentl is based on Yentl, a young girl who lives secretly as a man. And last but not least
Mary Poppins is about a magical nanny that helps bring two children that she s in charge of closer to

Florida State University SWOT Analysis
Assessing Culture Higher education institutions must continually change to adapt to environmental
trends, and the SWOT analysis can help administrators to plan and act quickly to stop potential
problems (Pucciarelli Kaplan, 2016). The SWOT analysis is based on strengths, weakness,
opportunities, and threats of the internal and external environment (Addams Allred, 2013). By
conducting a SWOT analysis, the institution can design strategies and policies for the institution
(Verboncu Condurache, 2016). SWOT analysis provides information that is effective and efficient at
the time for the institution and identifies areas for improvement (Verboncu Condurache, 2016). This

There have been complaints about how long it takes the financial aid department to process the
paperwork and about questions not being answered. Several dormitories need to be upgraded. General
advising is unproductive. Faculty are used to advise students, and some faculty have been
misinforming students. More advisors are needed to advise the students. There is not enough parking
on campus. There is no room for the university to expand on campus.
Opportunities
Since more people are looking for a mid career change and life long learning, there is growth potential
in this area. Online education is becoming more popular and meets the needs of individuals, so there is
growth potential in this area. The entrepreneurship school is expanding its courses to all programs in
the university. Partnerships with businesses will increase and provide students with more internship
opportunities. Individuals in different fields will be mentors to students. The University could increase
enrollment numbers by accepting more out of state students.

Orange Is The New Black Analysis
From the very start of Orange is the New Black , creator Jenji Kohan has made it clear that gender
identity and sexuality will feel like a normality in this series. Viewers are to forget what gender
inequality is and see these characters as everyday people. Kohan breaks the rules of traditional male
gaze and phallocentric cinema. These characters are not your typical females. Kohan flips the switch
by setting this series in a women s correctional facility. Up until the last few centuries, female
characters in film and television have been portrayed in a softer light. They are supposed to be pretty

female dynamic. We see correctional officer Mendez vs. female prisoner Dayanara, female warden
Natalie vs. male staff manager Joe Caputo, ex fiancé Larry vs. recently imprisoned Piper, and tons of

the good guys.(Chen) As a spectator, we view them in the completely opposite position. We are drawn
to the stories and the lives of the women in this prison. We feel for them and want to help them. The
men, on the other hand, have the disadvantage in this series. They are the enemy. This may seem
uncomfortable for some male spectators.(Goldrich) There could be less likelihood for men to enjoy
this series. But what were Jenji s intentions in having all these gender battles? Is this her way of

Essay Correctional Theory
INTRODUCTION Rehabilitation is firmly entrenched in the history of corrections in the United
States. Penitentiaries, for example were formed in 1820 with the belief that offenders could be morally
reformed (Cullen, Jonson, 2012, pp. 27 28). In 1870). The National Congress on Penitentiary and
Reformatory Discipline documented the merits of rehabilitation (Wines, 1871, p. 457). However, by
the end of the 1960s, the United States had experienced several years of discontent within its prison
systems which resulted in a national call for prison reform and the development of a disillusionment
with rehabilitation (Martinson, 1974, p. 22). In 1966, Robert Martinson was hired to evaluate the
effectiveness of rehabilitation, the result of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By utilizing correctional policies and practices that are not built upon evidence based theories, we risk
not only imposing ineffective treatments on offenders, we risk increasing an offender s criminality (p.
3). This is especially disconcerting when one considers the potential harm to which we are exposing
society upon the offender s release (Latessa, Cullen, Gendreau, 2002, p. 44). Evidence based
corrections would implement rehabilitation policies, as research shows it to be the greatest opportunity
to significantly impact crime as it addresses what is known to both cause and reduce criminality
(Cullen, Jonson, 2012, p. 11). Inherent in the ideals of effective rehabilitation are the identification of
criminogenic risk factors (i.e., correlates of criminality) such as aggression, and the establishment of
individualized evidence based treatments which address them (p. 30). In other words, offenders offend
for different reasons and until we target those reasons with empirically sound treatments and
interventions, we cannot hope for successful rehabilitation. Worse yet, by utilizing one size fits all
treatments, we risk exposing them to criminogenic risk factors, further exacerbating their criminal
propensities (p. 12). Ultimately, the importance of evidence based corrections cannot be overstated for
it is through careful evaluation of empirically sound data that we learn how to maximize the
effectiveness and efficiency of the correctional system as well as the

Jack Russel Terrier Research Paper
The Jack Russell Terrier, or also known as the Parson Russell Terrier, are

where the government was based on city states. Perhaps their greatest invention of all was the form of

was Alexander the Great. He was the leader of Macedonia, the city state that took control over Greece,
and he eventually gained control over Greece as a whole. Alexander the Great was probably the best
leader of all time in Greece. He conquered new lands, but he was the first person to adopt the new

An innocent man was convicted of a crime he did not commit. Several reasons exist. First: Bennett
had a previous arrest record and he seemed to fit the description of the killer. Second: the police were
under pressure to solve the crime. And finally above all, because the public was clamoring for some
way to express its indignation (for the death of Mrs. Stuart), found Willie Bennett a plausible target
(Baird and Rosenbaum 97). Cases just like this one lead to innocent men found guilty with the
potential of being put on death row. Today, there are over three thousand prisoners on death row.
Between 1972 and 1996, 68 death row inmates were released because proof of their innocence was
found (Acker, Bohm, and Lanier 232). Only after struggling with expensive lawyers and a harsh
system of justice were Cusson 3 the majority of these prisoners finally able to receive a second
chance. It is preposterous to think that of the three thousand prisoners on death row, all of them are
guilty and deserve the death penalty. The death penalty is unfair for several reasons, one of them being
that legal assistance for inmates on death row has become increasingly difficult to find. Prisoners on
death row filing for appeal have little or no chance for receiving a fair second chance. Most of the
legal work is done for free, and even lawyers dedicated to making sure these prisoners receive all their
legal rights cannot be expected to spend all of their time

Voting Vs Evms
Voting is one of the single most important rights that an American citizen can take advantage of.
However, the method of how a voter should cast their ballots has become a topic of controversy in
recent years. For centuries, voting polls across the world have relied on simple paper ballots to reach a
conclusive result; but, with the introduction of much more efficient electronic voting machines, or
EVMs , the question has risen... Which voting system is superior? In my opinion, EVMs are the
superior method of casting a ballot and there are several reasons why I say so. EVMs are simply more
efficient than paper ballots. When a vote occurs, every citizen s ballot is stored in the machine s
memory then digitally transferred to a single location to be tallied up. With paper ballots, each slip of
paper must be carefully stored and counted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many citizens believe that voters should stick to the orthodox method of casting paper ballots and not
implement these new EVMs. Their primary reasoning behind this thinking is the fear of having an
EVM hacked and their votes tampered with. With any electronic machine it is a valid arguement to be
afraid of recording private information on it due to the ever present threat of hacking. However,
according to the passage, EVMs are not connected to the internet nor are they easily tampered with
due to the recording of every action during the voting process. In the opposing passage it states that a
magazine published an article in which the writer explaines how he was able to tamper with votes on
EVMs. I believe this to be a unreliable source of information because tampering with votes is a very
severe federal crime that I doubt anyone would publically admit to commiting. So while I can
understand where the fear of EMVs is coming from, I seriously doubt that the confidentiality of
ballots is at risk with these

The importance of websites in environment, which costumers face with invisible dealers, invisible
processes, invisible controls and intangible nature of e business relations, is undeniable; hence, proper
design of websites has been very important.
Internet customers can easily compare the services of websites. As a result, for companies to keep
their customers and build loyalty, they must provide high quality online services. On the other hand, if
users, in order to use a website more effectively, are not able to understand the good quality and
features that are needed, and do not know what features a good website must have for it to provide
them access to information, they consider its usage as a waste of time and thus will stop using it.
Assess quality of websites, considering its role in attracting customers and building loyalty is very
important for activists in the field of e commerce. Many of the research in this area are concentrated
on components, graphic design and usability of the website that clients understand than the evaluation
of the quality which has higher importance than the technical aspects. Many studies show that if
perceived quality of a company s website is more, the company gets to a higher level of performance
So in this study a webqual model has been introduced in order to evaluate and study the quality of the
websites.

Membership to the organization is exclusive to students either majoring or minoring in Retail
Management. While membership is open to both males and females, the group is largely comprised of
college aged (18 to 23 years of age) females. The Retail Management program s faculty is also
included in the membership. The group s purpose is stated as being to prepare individuals who will
make a contribution to the retail industry and to society as a whole through quality education,
research, and service ( TRA , n.d.). Meetings are held approximately once a month. Each meeting aims
to address different topics pertaining to the retail industry. Examples of meeting topics include
professionalism, industry innovation, entrepreneurship, interviewing tips, and community service.
Each year, the organization strives to bring in a speaker who is... and has experienced retail industry.
In searching for a speaker, the group looks for someone whom the students will find to be both
relatable and inspiring. The reason for this being that the majority of the members of this organization
are at a highly impressionable age. By hearing success stories from industry pioneers, they will
hopefully be encouraged to pursue their life s ambitions. The speaker whom the group has chosen for
their event is Sara Blakely whom is represented by Speakers.com.. Ms. Blakely is the creator and

Summary Of The Nacirema Culture
This article starts by stating that it is going to describe the magical beliefs and practices of the
Nacirema people and it seemingly does just that (Miner). The normality of the American way of living
is removed and just the facts are left to be described as a seemingly different culture. Upon rereading,
there are many facts that show the reader that the author is talking about Americans, but they are
easily skimmed over with the guise that this is some other culture. For Example, the author even states
that the Nacirema live in North America between Canada and Mexico (Miner). He even goes on to tell
the reader about their cultural hero Notgnihsaw, which is Washington spelled backwards, and
mentions his feat of cutting down a cherry tree (Miner). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the rituals are performed. He talks about how houses can be valued by how many bathrooms it has,

that this once perceived old wives tale is actually true. The studies done to prove this seemingly
bizarre event have deemed it, The Mozart Effect.
The Mozart Effect is a set of research results that indicate that listening to Mozart s music may induce

temporal reasoning . Spatial temporal reasoning is the ability to visualize mental pictures of spatial

Other researchers were unable to reproduce the findings but others confirmed the theory that listening
to Mozart s sonata K448 produced a small increase in spatial temporal performance. These
improvements were measured by various tests derived from the Stanford Binet scale such as paper
cutting and folding procedures or pencil and paper maze tasks. Rauscher has stressed that the Mozart
effect is only limited to spatial temporal reasoning and that there is no enhancement of general
intelligence; some of the negative results, she thinks, could be attributed to inappropriate test
procedures (Jenkins). Many have criticized these positive findings in saying that these effects are due
to the enjoyment arousal and that these same findings would not be present if the subject had no
appreciation for classical music. These opinions of the effect are countered by a study done on rats by
the University of Wisconsin in 1998. Rats were exposed in utero plus 60 days post partum to either
complex music (Mozart Sonata (k. 448)), minimalist music (a Philip Glass composition), white noise
or silence, and were then tested for five days in a multiple T maze. By Day 3, the rats exposed to the
Mozart work completed the maze more rapidly and with fewer errors than the rats assigned to the
other groups. The difference increased in magnitude through Day 5. This suggests that repeated
exposure to complex music induces improved spatial temporal learning in rats,

The Dark Side of the Mind Exposed in Cask of Amontillado
A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser. It is equally unredressed when the
avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong. With that statement,
Montresor begins his tale of revenge deciding that the act must be slow and sweet and that in order to
fully enjoy it, his adversary must be aware of his intentions. Hidden within those same few lines, lies
not only this horrid plan, but also the true interest of its true author. In his Cask of Amontillado, Edgar
Allen Poe reveals his supreme interest in the dark side of the human mind and heart.

He is only concerned with attempting to understand the mind of Montresor as he commits the ultimate
dark act of murder.
Throughout the story, Montresor shows that the murder was what is now called in the first degree it
was clearly preplanned and intentional. By giving [the attendants] orders not to stir from the house,
Montresor shows that he was very aware of his actions. Even the placement of the bricks and mortar,
as well as the clever concealment of the trowel reflect the final execution of a well thought out plan. In
dialogue, Montresor also reveals his plan: Fortunato: the cough is a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I
shall not die of a cough. Montresor: True true. Montresor says that it is true. Fortunato will not die of a
cough, he will die at the hand of Montresor. The deep seated hatred necessary for the preplanned
extinguishing of another s life shows this dark side which Poe so wishes to be understood. Poe seems
to suggest that even if the readers have not physically carried out such a hideous act as that of
Montresor, they have in their imaginations.
Even the calm way the story is related by Montresor causes the reader to wander further into the mind
of the murderer further into the dark side of the mind and of the heart. With the line for the half of a
century no mortal has disturbed the bones, a new perspective on the story emerges. But even when the

The Canadian Retail Market Has A Complex And...
The Canadian retail market has a complex and multidimensional history. Retail Nation: Department
Stores and the Making of Modern Canada written by Donica Belisle, explores the journeys of major
Canadian department stores such as Eaton s, Simpson s and HBC between the 1890 s and 1940 s.
Specifically, she analyzes their development, morals and societal views from a feminist and paternalist
perspective. These complex theories are coupled with both examples and clear explanations in order to
gain a deep insight into the history of the Canadian retail market. In addition to a brief overview of the
book, I will discuss the interest level, relevance, structure and potential bias within Belisle s work.

Examples Of Non Violent Crimes
By definition non violent crimes are crimes that do not implicate physical harm or use of force upon

and was collaborated from data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Don t do the crime, if you can t do the time. Nonviolent or white collar crimes may not be violent

investor (Jordan Belfort) and suddenly you lose your home and life savings; though you were not
physically harmed, this could be detrimental to yours and your family s future. Allowing these
offenders to be released early creates a huge incentive for criminals to commit even more crimes. A
large amount(~67%) of non violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders, and it s because they
know they will serve a little time and then can go back out into society to do it all over

The portion of the Qomolangma formation that is between 8,200 to the top of 8,600 is called the yellow band. The reason it s called the yellow band is because of the Cambrian deposit and marble its made up of which resembles a yellow pigment. In the North Col formation, mudstone, limestone and sandstone are imbedded within each other as a result of the metamorphic stage. The base of this formation is referred to as the Lhoste detachment and is a low angle normal fault. About 24 million years ago when the Indian and the Asian planes collided, the Indian plane subducted as a result. From this the Indian plateau was made which thus created the metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. We can find these rocks faulted towards the south in an upward motion primarily due to the Cenozoic collision of the two continents. The Many sills and dikes intrude the rocks in this formation as previously mentioned as the Higher Himalayan leucogranite, which is formed by partial melting of Paleoproterozoic to Ordovician high grade metasedimentary rocks. This melting inhibited the creation of the Rongbuk formation by the pressure caused by the collision that forced the rocks into a downward then back up direction. The heat of the melting under sea level then pushed the rocks to the surface of the southern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Leadership That Gets Results By Daniel Goleman Essay In the article Leadership that Gets Results, Daniel Goleman suggests that there is a relationship between three concepts: the elements of emotional intelligence, the six leadership styles, and an organization s climate. Describe the way he believes that these concepts influence each other. You may include a drawing with boxes, arrows, and the like if that helps you to explain your thinking. Ultimately, he argues that these concepts influence organizational performance. Do you think he makes a compelling case for his position? The article of Leadership That Gets Results provides the six leadership styles for individuals to understand how leadership styles influence on an organization s climate. Furthermore, the six leadership styles are consisted of the emotional intelligence: self awareness, self management, social awareness, and social skill. Therefore, these three concepts, such as the six leadership styles, the elements of emotional intelligence, and an organization s climate, will influence each other because the research found that individuals with different emotional intelligence competencies will have distinct leadership styles. Subsequently, with the distinct leadership styles, leaders will utilize their own leadership styles to lead their group, team, division, or corporation. Thus, it will bring about a unique impact on an organization s climate and in turn, on its financial performance (Goleman, 2000, p.79). Moreover, leaders with their own emotional ... • 4. Whale Rider Essay In the Whale Rider, Nani Flowers is a stronger role model than Koro. She always advocated for Kahu, and continuously stood up against Koro s traditional beliefs about women. Secondly, Nani Flower was forgiving and altruistic towards everyone, even with Koro, in spite of his rigid attitude with Kahu. In contrast, Koro was blinded by tradition, thus making Kahu feel as if she was not good enough for Koro simply due to the fact that she was a girl, a factor she could not control. Therefore, Nani Flowers is evidently the better role model. Nani Flowers has always supported Kahu. When Kahu was first born, Koro Apirana was against Kahu just being named after his ancestor, so burying her birth cord anywhere near the long house would be very unacceptable in his eyes (page 25). Even with this in mind, Nani still buried Kahu s birthcord In the sight of Kahutia Te Rangi (page 29). Another example of this supportive behavior is when Kahu came home crying because of Koro, and the whales dying in the movie (pages 46 48). Not only did Nani argue with her husband, Koro, she kicked him out because he would not reconcile his traditional beliefs about Maori leadership and rights with Kahu s birth (page 48). We stood, summit of the world as the Prime of Britain commented. The US had the strongest, uttermost powerful military at the time. Our economy was booming. Cars, food, and house were more available than ever. Equally important, was Tulsa, Oklahoma, dubbed as America s Most beautiful city. On the other hand, and side of town are the Socs a clan of rich stuck up children who get everything in their heart s desire. The Soc do crime to get attention or just because they can. Likewise, they are criminals that are made. Their family life/ situations make them into who they are and how the Socs act. At the same time, the relationships in the Socs influence the traits that are perceived by the Socs from the Greasers. Also, the society defines them, making barriers, some people break the barriers. Still, more people spend their life inside the living by definition of who they are, assigned by society. In The Outsiders, the Soc, who are criminals, are made not born because of the family situation and their lifestyle. One of the Socs is Bob. Like most Socs, he was dealt the right cards so to say, in life. He was, ....a good guy....he was a real person too, (Hinton 116). That meaning, he had everything that he needed. Supporting parents, a house, and a legitimate future in their life ahead. All of a sudden, his life change. His mother had a nervous breakdown. Instantly, the parents spoiled Bob rotten. It will illustrate development of these perspectives as well as their enhancement of our understanding of women as both perpetrators and victims of crime. Moreover, this paper will examine how the criminal justice system has historically responded to male and female offenders and victims on a national and global scale. Historically, researchers of females within crime have habitually been male (Crowther Dowey, Silvestri, 2008). Feminist perspectives in Criminology have had an exceptional influence on the way women are understood, both as perpetrators and victims of crime. One of the fundamental themes within Feminist criminology is its strong focus on gender (primarily female) at the core of its discourse and analysis of crime (Chesney lind, Morash 2013). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Folic acid plays many important roles in the body. There is no doubting that it is essential. The reason that we need a constant stream of it is because it is not stored in large quantities in the body. It is water soluble. Fat soluble vitamins are stored for longer in our system. When ingested, the body uses what it can and the rest comes out in urine, in very little time the body will need more. We discussed how pregnant women get a proven benefit, and studies continue on its role in reducing risks of other diseases, but regardless of what additional benefits are found, it is clear that without folic acid in our bodies, we would not be alive. Folic acid aids in the production of red blood cells and the synthesis of DNA and RNA. Folate even has a role in the digestive system! It works with vitamins B12 and C to help the body digest and synthesize proteins. Lastly, folic acid helps tissues grow and cells function, it is an integral part of the body working as it should. You might wonder what would happen if you stopped consuming folic acid in the form of supplements or foods. One consequence that is quite likely under these conditions is folate deficiency anemia. This type of anemia occurs when red cell production slows and the body no longer has a sufficient amount. Without enough red blood cells, oxygen cannot travel around the body quick enough. Trends And Issues Of Non Profit Management Essay Sammy Sanchez ADMN 631 Trends and Issues in Non Profit Management Prof. Travis Hardmon Trinity Washington University 10/02/16 Abstract The challenge of nonprofit leadership can prove to be daunting for even the most optimistic of individuals. The nonprofit industry is and expanding revolution, a force said to influence national and global economies. Domestically, the nonprofit sector accounts for more than half of America s general hospitals, nearly half of its education institutions and most of its family service agencies (Rowe, 2013), opportunities created by economic and political failures. In the wake of rapid development, environmental pressures, economic impact, and growing challenges, nonprofits are being placed under a microscope, being pushed to take more strategic approaches to NPO management and to apply sound business principals. For a novice in nonprofit leadership, such as I, the endeavor of creating a sustainable organization in such a competitive environment can be intimidating. • 18. The Battle Of The St. Lawrence Seaway The Battle of the St. Lawrence Seaway refers to the attacks on Allied shipping in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence from 1942 through to the end of the shipping season in 1944 . German submarines, commonly called U boats, entered into these Canadian waters to hinder and delay Allied supplies from reaching Britain across the Atlantic . However, Allied convoys still made voyages to Britain and back, constantly supplying them with goods. Sailing across the middle of the Atlantic itself was considered far more dangerous than just leaving the Canadian ports. Therefore, through examining Germany s intent for entering the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, effect on Allied shipping, and subsequent response by the Allies with respect to the attacks, it can be shown that U boats entering into Canadian waters had very little impact on impeding Allied shipping. Allied shipping from North America to Britain needed to supply at least a million tonnes of goods to allow Britain to survive and fight against the Axis . Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Britain for the duration of the Second World War, called the Battle of the Atlantic the [most] dominating factor all through the war. Never for one moment could we forget that everything happening elsewhere, on land, at sea or in the air depended ultimately on its outcome . Therefore, whoever held the upper hand in the Battle of the Atlantic held the advantage in supplies for the war. Germany decided to employ their U boats to try to delay and strike ... The 1.5 million toys recalled by Fisher Price s preschool division included Elmo, Big Bird, and Dora, all made in China. The routine activities theory was used as a conceptual framework to research elder abuse in nursing homes. Payne and Gainey (2006) used the routine activities theory as a guide to research elder abuse in nursing home from a crime perspective. Therefore, the first element in routine activities theory was used because certain nursing homes could put pressures on individuals who would not typically commit a crime against an elderly resident (Payne Gainey, 2006). In addition, a nursing home could attract offenders who desire the power and/or control over individuals that are weaker than the offender is (Payne Gainey, 2006). Consequently, for the suitable target element nursing home residents could be the targets and/or their personal belongings (Payne Gainey, 2006). Finally, the capable guardian element could be nursing assistants or a place manager, a camera, or a locked door (Payne Gainey, 2006). Therefore, it is reasonable to suggest that the lifestyles of elderly residents in nursing homes and/or other institutional care put them at risk for victimization (Payne Gainey, 2006). Viewers are to forget what gender inequality is and see these characters as everyday people. Kohan breaks the rules of traditional male gaze and phallocentric cinema. These characters are not your typical females. Kohan flips the switch by setting this series in a women s correctional facility. Up until the last few centuries, female characters in film and television have been portrayed in a softer light. They are supposed to be pretty and clean the house and take the kids to school. • 25. Essay Correctional Theory INTRODUCTION Rehabilitation is firmly entrenched in the history of corrections in the United States. Penitentiaries, for example were formed in 1820 with the belief that offenders could be morally reformed (Cullen, Jonson, 2012, pp. 27 28). In 1870). The National Congress on Penitentiary and Reformatory Discipline documented the merits of rehabilitation (Wines, 1871, p. 457). However, by the end of the 1960s, the United States had experienced several years of discontent within its prison systems which resulted in a national call for prison reform and the development of a disillusionment with rehabilitation (Martinson, 1974, p. 22). In 1966, Robert Martinson was hired to evaluate the effectiveness of rehabilitation, the result of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By utilizing correctional policies and practices that are not built upon evidence based theories, we risk not only imposing ineffective treatments on offenders, we risk increasing an offender s criminality (p. 3). This is especially disconcerting when one considers the potential harm to which we are exposing society upon the offender s release (Latessa, Cullen, Gendreau, 2002, p. 44). Evidence based corrections would implement rehabilitation policies, as research shows it to be the greatest opportunity to significantly impact crime as it addresses what is known to both cause and reduce criminality (Cullen, Jonson, 2012, p. 11). Inherent in the ideals of effective rehabilitation are the identification of criminogenic risk factors (i.e., correlates of criminality) such as aggression, and the establishment of individualized evidence based treatments which address them (p. 30). In other words, offenders offend for different reasons and until we target those reasons with empirically sound treatments and interventions, we cannot hope for successful rehabilitation. Worse yet, by utilizing one size fits all treatments, we risk exposing them to criminogenic risk factors, further exacerbating their criminal propensities (p. 12). Ultimately, the importance of evidence based corrections cannot be overstated for it is through careful evaluation of empirically sound data that we learn how to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the correctional system as well as the ... Other researchers were unable to reproduce the findings but others confirmed the theory that listening to Mozart s sonata K448 produced a small increase in spatial temporal performance. These improvements were measured by various tests derived from the Stanford Binet scale such as paper cutting and folding procedures or pencil and paper maze tasks. Rauscher has stressed that the Mozart effect is only limited to spatial temporal reasoning and that there is no enhancement of general intelligence; some of the negative results, she thinks, could be attributed to inappropriate test procedures (Jenkins). Many have criticized these positive findings in saying that these effects are due to the enjoyment arousal and that these same findings would not be present if the subject had no appreciation for classical music. These opinions of the effect are countered by a study done on rats by the University of Wisconsin in 1998. Rats were exposed in utero plus 60 days post partum to either complex music (Mozart Sonata (k. 448)), minimalist music (a Philip Glass composition), white noise or silence, and were then tested for five days in a multiple T maze.
