Property, Plant, and Equipment
Property, Plant and Equipment
Property, Plant and Equipment I Nature of Accounting Issues
Businesses purchase and use a variety of fixed assets, such as equipment, furniture, tools, machinery,
buildings, and land. These fixed assets are long term or relatively permanent assets. Also, they are
tangible assets because they exist physically. They are owned and used by the business and are not
offered for sale as part of normal operations. Perhaps the most descriptive titles these assets are known
under are plant assets or property, plant and equipment. Depending on the industry, the plant assets of
a business can be a significant part of its total assets. That is why the accounting for these long term
assets has important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This basically means that IFRS is not setting certain rules to be followed and are instead giving
guidance in the form of principles.
We now want to look into the International Accounting Standards Board and framework for the
preparation and presentation of financial statements. The conceptual frameworks are split into five
categories and are in the following order: the objective of financial statements; underlying
assumptions; the qualitative characteristics that determine the usefulness of information in financial
statements; the definition, recognition, and measurement of the elements from which financial
statements are constructed; and the concepts of capital and capital maintenance (Ankarath 11). The
standards under IFRS are beginning to become much more popular across the world for several
different reasons. The International Financial Reporting Standards are currently being used by at the
very least 100 countries and [was] expected that by 2011, more than 150 countries [would] have
adopted them (Ankarath 1). We happen to find this important because it seems that a lot of countries
are starting to adopt IFRS to report their financial statements. One of the reasons why many countries
made the switch over to IFRS is because the decision of the U.S. SEC to allow foreign private issuers
to list their securities on U.S.

Comparing The Cronus Myth And The Lighting Thief
Cronus was the youngest out of the titans and when Cronus grew up and he overthrew his father and

Zeus finally took over his father s powers and made his father throw his brothers and sisters up .The
Cronus myth and The Lighting Thief both have struggle for power .Cronus doesn t want his kids to
steal his powers like he stole his father s .Cronus was afraid that his children might one day rise up
against his authority, as he had against his own father, Uranus.Cronus is scared that his children will

Persuasive Essay On Home Ownership
The American dream is a phrase which evokes a different meaning depending on whom you ask.
However, there are some similar concepts that run throughout most interpretations. Most Americans
envision being able to live a happy life if they work hard enough. This would most likely include a
stable income, fulfilling career, and a place to live. In recent years, I believe the thought of an ideal
living situation has evolved. As living costs continue to increase, many Millennials are finding it
harder to move out on their own and be able to support themselves. The vision of a big house with a
white picket fence is no longer the ultimate goal, because many young people just don t find it realistic
in today s economy. Home ownership is a big deal and comes along with many advantages and
freedoms. Being able to own property under your own name is a privilege that not everybody gets.
Having a house eliminates many hassles that renters face on a daily basis. Dealing with annoying
roommates, tight living quarters, and landlords are no longer a concern once you move into your own
house. You have your own privacy and space to call your own and decorate as you want. Many people
view buying a house as a superior choice, because it is an asset and goes up in value over the years.
On the contrary, when you rent, you are paying monthly just to live in a space that belongs to someone
else. Owning your own home also comes with some cons, as does everything else. There are many

The Objective Of The Experiment Was To Understand The North
The objective of the experiment was to understand the North and South poles of a magnet and how
they relate to each other for a single magnet and two magnets when like poles or unlike poles are
placed together. The results of the experiments verified the properties of magnets with respect to how
like poles repel and how unlike poles attract. Also, electromagnets were created and investigations
confirmed Lenz s law. The experiment produced results that agreed with expectations, confirming the
behavior of like poles, unlike poles, electromagnets and Lenz s law. A Magnetic Field Sensor was used
to measure the magnetic field due to the current flowing in the coil and showed a steady magnetic
field relative to time.

A bar magnate that is allowed to rotate freely, will have one end point in the northerly direction while
the other will point in the southerly direction. The two magnetic poles for each magnet consist of the
South Pole and the North Pole.
Poles that are un similar attract each other, while poles that are similar repel each other. A permanent
magnet attracts a non magnetized object that contains iron to either of its poles. The earth is a giant
magnate itself, with its north geographical pole pointing in the direction of the magnetic South Pole.
This causes the north pole of a compass needle to point north. While isolated positive and negative
charges exist, isolated magnetic poles do not exist. Poles of a magnet always exist in pairs.
It was 1819, when Han Christian Oersted, the Danish scientist noted for the first time that a compass
needle underwent deflection when to a wire carrying current was placed close to it. This was the start
of the relationship between magnetism and moving charges. Andre Ampere in France reached a
similar conclusion. Soon afterwards Michael Faraday in England and Joseph Henry in the United
States found that a moving a magnet placed near a conducting loop can induce a current in the loop.
Magnetic and electric fields are intertwined. An electric charge at rest results in the creation of an
electric field, which exerts a force on any other charge

The Chernobyl Disaster And The Fukushima Nuclear Disaster
Uranium, which is the ninety second element on the periodic table, is a very interesting element. The
radioactive uranium is used in atomic bombs. Also, people use it in what is called nuclear power, an
energy source that fourteen percent of the world uses. (NPR 3) In a nuclear power plant, a process
called fission that uses uranium is used to generate power. During fission, each uranium atom is
bombarded by neutrons, causing each uranium atom to turn into one atom of barium, one atom of
krypton, and three neutrons. These three neutrons bombard other uranium atoms, resulting in more
neutrons being produced and creating a chain reaction. Each time the uranium atom split, energy is
released. The leftover atoms are called nuclear waste. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I mentioned before, uranium is used in atomic bombs. So, uranium mines are very dangerous and
nuclear power is not safe. Right? I disagree. Uranium mines have created ways to reduce radiation
levels to their workers whenever they can and limits as how much radiation is allowed in a uranium
mine. Also, people have spent over forty years already creating safety regulations for uranium mines.
Finally, there is not enough uranium in a uranium mine for either of those to blow up like an atomic
bomb. (World Nuclear Association 4) As a result of these safety protections during uranium mining,
there has only been 371 deaths due to uranium mining contamination between 1950 and 2000, which
is an average of around only 7.42 deaths per year. (Motherboard 2) In comparison, coal mining had an
average of 16 deaths per year in 2014. (MSHA

Accounting Ratio And The Financial Performance
The purpose of Accounting Ratio is to measure the financial performance as this will help the business
to determine whether they are making profit by analysing the progress. Business will also be able to
manage their resources properly because this will indicate on whether they will be able to pay their
Creditors as they have done the analysis of Accounting Ratio. Accounting Ratio gives the opportunity
to compare their financial information with other business to see if they are performing better than
their competitors. Accounting ratios can only be analysed if the business have the figures from Profit
and Loss Account and Balance Sheet because all the calculation is calculated separately. There are
three types of Accounting Ratio: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, financial information will be disclosable to the Manager, Investors, and Creditors as they
have the ratio analysis. This is the most important analysis to the Investors because they will know the
financial positon of the business and make decent decisions. Also, this is important for Creditors
because they will get an idea on whether the business will be able to pay off the Debt. The
disadvantages of Accounting Ratio, it does not provide overall business performance and it is only
analysed in figures. Accounting Ratio is a least useful tools because it does not analyse the previous
performance where the business is mainly concern about future information. Ratio Analysis is only
made as a prediction to indicate on whether they are making the profit or loss as an overall business
performance.
Gross Profit is the amount of money left after the Cost of Goods sold have been. Gross Profit is when
the business calculate before tax by taking away the Cost of Sales from the Net Sale. The formula for
Gross Profit is (Gross Profit for the year divided it by Sales for the year times 100). This ratio shows
the business how much profit they are making and it helps to compare the figures from the previous
performance. However, the business should be aware that if the percentage decreases from the
previous performance then they should investigate the reason behind it. If the Gross percentage
decreases from one year to the

Implant False Memory Literature Review
Strategies and Techniques Used to Implant False Memories
Memories are vital components in an individual s life because they give people a sense of identity. As
individuals, we create memories throughout our everyday lives. Some memories may positively affect
people, while others may negatively affect people. Although it may seem logical to think that
memories are always reliable and accurate, a plethora of research has indicated that memories can be
changed and created. The notion that memories should be reliable is prevalent in the judicial system
when witnesses provide accounts of events because it is assumed that their memory statements are
generally accurate (Shaw Porter, 2015). Roedieger III and McDermott (1995) defined false memories
as remembering events that never happened, or remembering them quite differently from the way they
happened (pg 803). Many people are aware that memory can fade and temporarily be unavailable.
Sometimes false memories can be so compelling that they seem as accurate as true memories (Loftus,
2003). This literature review focuses on strategies and false memory paradigms utilized to create and
implant false memories.
Misinformation Effect
The misinformation effect became prevalent in psychology during the 1970s when Elizabeth Loftus
conducted research showing that individuals can form memories of events that never transpired by
having events suggested to them (Leding, 2009). The customary misinformation paradigm

On Racism Essay
On Racism
Racism can be described as a belief in the superiority of a particular race; hostility or discrimination
against members of a different race.
The Bible
Genesis 1:26 27, 2:19 20
Then God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the
fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, and male and female he
created them.
So from the soil God fashioned all the wild beasts and birds of heaven. These he brought to man to see

Jesus preached against racism and there are many other examples of this like in Genesis.
Baptist:
The kingdom of God knows no prejudice and no discrimination. In fact, it might be better to say that it
discriminates on favour of the poor, the weak and the marginalised. The Church therefore has the
responsibility to listen to these groups, to work with them and to support their attempts to improve
their own conditions.
The Baptist statement mirrors one of Jesus own teachings, the Beatitudes, one of which says: Happy
are those who are persecuted in the cause of right; theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Or Happy are you
when people abuse you and persecute you because of me and speak all kinds of calumny against you
on my account. The Baptist church says that they have a responsibility to help the poor and
persecuted. This is also like the Good Samaritan, or helping those less fortunate no matter what the
colour or creed.
Methodists
Whatever our skin colour or background, we are one in our common humanity and one in Christ. All
are equal before God. Adverse discrimination on the basis of or cultural characteristics contradicts our
common humanity and the Gospel. To judge anyone adversely solely on account of his or her
membership of a class or a racial group is to violate his or her status

Freud s Theory of Psychosexual Development
Oral to Genital stage, how it affected me as an individual.

Freud s theory of psychosexual development is based on erogenous zones which are important stages
of development. According to the theory, there are five stages throughout one s life: Oral phase, anal
phase, phallic phase, latency phase, and genital stage. Each stage is involved in particular conflicts
that must be resolved before moving on to the next stage of development. All the stages have two
things in common: each stage has their own comfort and pleasure source. Freud believes one s

I was more of a troublemaker with group of friends with same sex. My peer relationships increased by
hanging out and attending same school club activities. Even though my sexual urges repressed, I
remember that the urges were not completely repressed. From grade 1 to 3, I had a crush on one
particular girl, but I was too shy to express my feelings because it was not normal for other students at
my age it seemed. It seemed that I may have skipped my latency stage or it was not noticeable. In this
stage, I did not stop chewing pencil. It got worse and had to talk to my parents about it. The conflict of
sucking and biting of oral stage was resolved during my latency phase when I was introduced to
chewing gum.
Last stage, genital phase, occurs from puberty to adulthood. In this stage many things happen. Puberty
kicks in, thus change in body for reproduction occurs. Also, increase in hormonal changes activates
the sexual urges which were dormant for years. Sexual attraction and interest of opposite sex is
increased. Desire for independence is still great, but still needs supervision from their parents. I had
my first girlfriend when I was 12, before my puberty. Unfortunately, she had a car accident and passed
away. This event caused my sexual urges to repress greatly because I was afraid similar things might
happen to others. For 4 years, I avoided talking to opposite sex and the times I had to talk, I felt
scared.

Lego s Creative Toy Line
Introduction
The company LEGO officially began in 1932 in Denmark by the skilled hands of the carpenter Ole
Kirk Christiansen, with the help of his son Godtfred, when he was only 12 years old. They started
manufacturing small handmade wooden toys such as cars, trucks, ducklings and piggy banks, to
fortify the family during the depression period. Their best seller where the LEGO bricks. In the studio
where the toys were made, the phrase, Only The Best is Good Enough was painted on the wall. This
vision is utilized until the present day to set the company as quality is of extreme importance to the
brand.
The company expanded rapidly. By 1992, Lego had become one of the top ten global toy
manufacturers. LEGO s creative toy line had become a success worldwide. However, with the
appearance of video games and the failed initial attempt to enter this market, along with competition
from other manufacturers, the Danish company was placed in a difficult situation at the beginning of
the century, leading to immense monetary losses. In order to stop losses, LEGO took measures such
as: shifting part of its production to the Czech Republic and a drastic reduction of its workforce.
Lego case for change
The case for LEGO s change in strategy was due to the decline in profit and growth. The company
was not up to date with the consumer and market trends. They did not have prepare for future
scenarios or have a contingency plan, thus they were very unprepared for the changes in the toy

Cost Reimbursement Analysis
Sometimes when the policies and procedures of the workplace are unknown or lax, the people that
take the most advantage of it are those that are truly trusted, or in a management position. Mr. Stehm
was the Chief Accounting Officer of his company, and I m sure that his position had everything to do
with the padding of his expense account. The article didn t say anything about how he processed his
reimbursements, or rather approved them, but I d say no one looked closely at what he submitted, they
were just paid. I ve read different articles that state that it usually takes about 24 months to figure out
that someone is committing fraud by padding their expense account. These same articles also say that
this is an age old issue, and is more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Normally, from a business standpoint it s wrong; but ironically from the employees standpoint, they
usually feel that they deserve it, or they ve earned it, so it s not actually fraudulent. A big flaw in
dealing with expense reimbursement is that careless, or lax, processing is usually at the root of
reimbursing false expense claims. The reports are just shuffled through and sent in for payment (there
were even stories of complicity between employees and the reimbursement clerk who received a fair
share). This is one area where repeated ethics and fraud trainings for employees might prove
beneficial. Procedures that I might recommend to the Board to reduce the possibility of reoccurrence
would be, to have stricter supervision and detailed auditing of expense reports, which would include
original receipts, before reimbursement is made. If the expense report is from a Manager, it should be
required to go through at least two others for approval. In addition, internal control systems and strict
policies must be established and enforced. A corporate expense account, or Agency credit card, should
come with some type of letter of intent as to how the account is to be used and the ramifications one
will face if it is not used in the manner intended. The letter should clearly state what items are
considered to be reimbursable as work related: gas, travel, supplies etc. The employee would be
expected to sign the letter of intent that states they understand the proper use of the account. Then, if
the employee pads the account, they are knowingly asking for reimbursement for items that are not
work related, and the employer has the documentation needed to deal with the employee as they see

China Is A Country That Affects The World And The Way...
China is a country that affects the world and the way people live. China has the second largest
economy and it grows through time. They have a large wealth of many minerals and natural resources,
which include coal, iron, copper, limestone and much more. These reserves of mineral and natural
resources help provide China with a steady foundation for rapid industrial growth. China is quickly
growing and it s population is increasing enormously. It s booming economy and industry are a huge
catalyst for the economic status of many other countries, of those including the U.S.
One of the major ways that China is affecting the world, and particularly the U.S., is the exchange
rate. Devaluation, the official lowering of a country s currency within a fixed exchange rate system,
has boosted China s exports in the past several years. It has also caused Chinese made goods to be
much less expensive, and U.S. imports, as well as imports from other countries, to become more
expensive. Although China s economy is benefitting from this change, other countries such as the U.S.
have been greatly impacted.
China has been growing a lot in the past few years, and most of the products we use in our everyday
life are imported from China and their manufacturers. One very common product most of us use is the
iPhone and as you may, or may not know, the U.S. manufactures this product in China. Why you may

A Personal Review Of Eating Red Lobster
Now moving on to the middle drawer. This drawer consists of meats such as; chicken, hamburgers,

The Social Needs For Students Intellectual Development...
Introduction: Background Generally speaking, universities place emphasis on students intellectual
development more than their personal growth. Nevertheless, many students experience college life
stressful. College students often find themselves feeling isolated as they begin their lives on a
university campus (Corey, Corey, Corey, 2014). Therefore, their social needs in addition to their
academic needs must be addressed (see Corey, et al., 2014; Ramsay, Jones, Barker, 2007).
Developmentally, college age individuals transition from adolescence to young adulthood (Gardiner
Kosmitzki, 2010). One of developmental theorists, Erik Erikson (in Lerner, 2002) postulated that
young adults developmental task is negotiating their identity within the intimate relationship.
Furthermore, Côté (2006) stressed that reflecting and exploring their lives in adolescence to emerging
adulthood helps them obtain what he called identity capital, which refers to a repertoire of personal
resources (Côté, 2006, p. 91). It includes both tangible and intangible resources and attributes (Côté,
2006). Lack of engagement or passivity of adolescents and emerging adults result in diffusion (
apathetic noncommitment (Côté, 2006, p. 104). Gleaning from these theorists observations, college
students face developmental tasks, which carry them forward to adulthood. Therefore, their social
needs in addition to their academic needs must be addressed (see Corey, et al., 2014). The rate of

The initial colonies were very unified both religiously and politically. There was little variance and a
strong sense of identity.
The continued influx of colonizers would fall to a trickle of only a hundred or so per year after the
English Civil War in 1642 and remain subdued until the American Revolution (Reader s Companion
to American History). The colonies which were formed after the English Civil War were much more
diverse in their makeup than were the initial Puritan colonies. These colonies formed over a longer
period of time and their populations were composed of people who had left England for a varying
degree of reasons. In addition, rather than being composed of immigrants from one primary area in
England, the English colonists were more geographically diverse as well.
The English had limited dealings with the Natives of the areas they colonized, preferring to operate
their colonies as autonomously as possible, depending more on interaction with the respective mother
countries than with the Native Americans (Foner and Garraty). England would become, arguably, the
most successful of the northern European countries that colonized, eventually extending their range all

Catholic Social Teaching Research Paper
The message of Jesus Christ and the Church is reflected though the eight Catholic Social Teaching
principles. The purpose of the eight principles is to integrate faith and influence our relationship with
God. The primary principle is the life and dignity of the human person. The first Catholic Social
Teaching affirms that the children of God is sacred and valuable from the time of conception until
death. For instance, unborn children, homeless people, and students are all equal in dignity.
Additionally, the Catholic Church defends the dignity of each person, since God created people to love
and serve him. Overall, the first Catholic Social Teaching principle can be applied to my four years at
Maria Regina High School. The Respect Human Life Club at Maria Regina High School promotes the
dignity of a person, which is the foundational principle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, every morning, Ms. Brennan recites a communal prayer with my class and prays for
family members and friends. Prayer brings a connection between the sanctity of human life and
dignity. Together, as a class, we pray for the well being of each person and to keep us away from
distractions. Moreover, in the theology curriculum, the religion teachers at Maria Regina mention
about the importance in protecting the lives of the innocent, including newborns and homeless people.
These sacred individuals are voiceless in the community and should be protected by people. In junior
year, Mrs. Laino, my theology teacher, spoke about the topic of abortion and the views of the Catholic
Church. Even though the Catholic Church condemns abortion, many mothers choose to abort their
child. However, there are housing projects that help women rethink their decision to abort. Ultimately,
my theology teachers have instilled in me the importance of the lives of humans by explaining the

Literary Context Of Dystopian Literature
Literary Context
Dystopian literature presents a chilling and depressing view of the future in which society itself is
generally the antagonist of the story and seems to work against the protagonist s aims and desires.
Dystopian literature explores the many problems within our society and uses them to create a dark and
nightmare world, in which squalor, poverty or oppression are present. It acts as a cautionary tale for
readers and brings to light the many flaws in humanity, which makes it impossible for a perfect
society to ever exist.
The true horrors, which compose a fictitious dystopian world, are used as a literary tool by many
authors in an attempt to magnify societies issues. Their texts serve as a moralistic warning with aim to

The part of 1984, which is so compelling and interesting, is the fact that the people are living in a
dystopian world without even knowing they are. Behind the mandatory Two Minute Hate and the
motivational slogans lie the thought police, torture and telescreens watching you every move.
Moreover the people who do notice something and rebel against the controlling society are whisked
away and dealt with, like the protagonist in this novel.
1984 is a typical dystopian novel in which Orwell explores the many issues present during the time in
which he wrote this book. He successfully creates a world in which technology is vastly more
sophisticated than it was during the time in which this book was written and in which fear is used as a
tool to control individuals who do not conform to the social norms. The horrible and dangerous
futuristic world controlled repressively by the government and the thought police is portrayed
wonderfully by Orwell who is able to create the perfect dystopian realm.
George Orwell was inspired by many events, which took place throughout his life. He lived through
World War I, II and part of the Cold War and therefore used these events to help create the world of
1984. However, not only was he inspired by the political issues around his time, but he was also
inspired by the author Yevgeny Zamyatin who had published the book We a few years prior to when
1984 was published.

It is not a question of having more, or more significant, opportunities: the opportunity for me to study
is there now. Rather it is a question of being able to take advantage of the opportunity by being in
control of my life. Positive freedom in this example is a matter of my having the capacity to take the
rational option as well as having the opportunity: whereas, according to a concept of negative
freedom, the opportunities that I have alone determine the extent of my freedom. I am free to study in
the negative sense since no one is preventing me from doing it; no one has locked away my books, or
hidden my pen and paper; no one has dragged me out of the door to go to the movies, or chained me to
my easy chair in front of the television. However, I am not free in the positive sense; I am not truly
free, because I am a slave to my tendency to be sidetracked. True positive freedom would involve
seizing control of my life and making rational choices for myself. Those who defend positive freedom
believe that just because no one is preventing you from doing something, it does not follow that you
are genuinely free. Positive freedom is a matter of achieving your potential, not just having

External Factors In Health Care
Health care is an ever changing industry and as changes are made organizations must learn to

factors, they ought to analyze the trends on a constant basis. According to Ginter, Duncan, Swayne
(2013), in the healthcare sector is it challenging to identify changes that may happen and the best way
to prepare for them (p. 36). Three reasons why this is vital to the success of the business is (1) to

Yutaka Nakamura in 1979, working under RTRI (Railway Technical Research Institute) of JNR,
developed a new idea for EEW system and called it UrEDAS, Urgent Earthquake Detection and
Alarm System. The main UrEDAS functions are the estimation of magnitude and location,
vulnerability assessment and issuing warnings within a few seconds using initial P wave motion at a
single station. UrEDAS calculates parameters such as back azimuth, predominant frequency for
magnitude evaluation and vertical to horizontal ratio for discrimination between P and S waves, using
the amplitude for each sample in realtime. UrEDAS can issue a P wave warning with a processing

As vb = ab/2πF. (Y. Nakamura) w = m. A. ab. A. vb = m.A. ab. A. ab/2πF = (m/2π). A2/F. ab2 =
(m/2π).Kd. ab2 Kd = A2/F (3) where m is the mass of the object undergoing seismic acceleration. The
dominant frequency (F) and amplification factor (A) are directly related to the seismic motion applied
to the train body. The dynamic characteristics of the trains are known in general. F and A are estimated
from F g and Ag for a train resting on the ground surface. For a train resting on a structure, these
values are termed as Fsg and Asg for both structures and ground. Site characteristics are reflected by
the Kd value. In the case of a large Kd value, work rate (w) and the possibility of derailment/overturn
are also large. The Kd value was therefore considered as an index of vulnerability of trains to
derailment overturn. As previously mentioned, Kd values for a train derailment/overturning are
directly related to the power of earthquake motion. It has also been clearly shown that there is a strong
relation between K value and damage. Starting from equation (3), two new parameters PI (P wave
Index) and DI (Damage Intensity) were proposed.
The earthquake destructiveness is estimated with the help of the power density PD (W/kg) of the
earthquake vibration which is calculated from the inner product of the acceleration vector a (cm/s2)

Home Ownership Is The American Dream !
Introduction
Home ownership is the American dream! It is one of the most costly purchases an individual or family
can make in their lifetime. Some people save until they have cash to purchase however, many people
borrow money from a bank or lending institution; when a person borrows money to purchase a home
the loan is called a mortgage. The lender is called the mortgagee and the borrower is called the
mortgagor; banks have several different types of mortgages: fixed rate mortgage, adjustable rate
mortgage, investment mortgage and much more. Borrowers have to undergo the lender underwriting
process to show financial capability of repaying the mortgage (Makarov Plantin, 2013). In this article I
will use a fictitious person named Julianna, she is in the process of buying her first home at age 30; I
will be her lender and will use mathematical procedures to find out what is her down payment,
principle, installment payment, points (closing cost), mortgage maturity value and total interest paid.
Background
Julianna s real estate agent found her a home costing $600,000 in Queens, New York; she liked the
property and signed a contract to purchase and deposited $5,000. She is now left with a balance due of
$600,000 subtract $5,000 equal $595,000. She ordered an appraisal and it stated that the market value
of the property was $550,000. The appraiser found 3 properties almost identical in the area that was
recently sold; the 1rst was sold for $500,000, 2nd $550,000 and the

Anton Bruckner was born on September 4 1824 in the village of Ansfelden, Austria to a family known
for being craftsman and farmers. Bruckner was the first of 11 children. Bruckner s father was the
village schoolmaster in charge of teaching music and also was an organist. Bruckner s first music
professor was his father, but unfortunately his father died when Bruckner was just thirteen years old.
He later worked as a teacher assistant and at night worked in village s dances to supplement his
income. An interesting fact about Bruckner according to Floros Constantin author of the book Anton
Bruckner: The Man and the Work is during the time he was a teacher assistant, he was known as a
prankster. This is an interesting fact because, in his later years he was a serious and focus man.

This is an essential organization s business component that composes of a continuance plan for the

In this analysis account, the researcher is going to discuss and subsequently describe methods for
establishing components priorities by determining components dependencies and reliance in both
business continuity and disaster recovery.

Work Recovery Time (WRT) this is the second phase of MTD, it happens mostly on the third day of
MTD.
Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) this is the system recovery time, it is the available time to recover
disrupted resources and systems.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO) this is the extent or amount of data loss that a critical business
system can tolerate.
The above are the recovery time framework that will assist in calculating the time and form through
which a business will evolve before collapsing (Hiles, 2002).
To do a business impact analysis, the element of component dependency arises. Components
dependencies are the interdependency between the exploratory components and the planning
components. With the planning component, the organization will dwell much on the minimizing and
mitigating the risks that will lead to business disruption, while the exploratory component will dwell
so much on discovering and identification of vulnerable areas within the business. Their dependency
is as important as the two areas. For an organization to mitigate the risks, it should be aware of the
areas that are more vulnerable to risks, and if an organization identifiers the risk then it will have to
look for ways to reduce its occurrence or the impacts. Mostly the planning happens after the
exploratory component (Cardoza, 2006).

The story reflects the process of racial and cultural integration the country has been going through
since its inception, revealing an underlying struggle by the minority groups in the country to become

their identity as an Indian. Influenced by the TV programs, American Indian youths like Victor began
to chase fame, profit, and emulate images the white media produced for them. As a result, the Native

Moreover, Native Indians have been assimilated into the white society in a way that they lose their
faith in their ethnicity through being willing to mix with whites and enduring the racial discrimination.
For example, Junior has a white girlfriend called Lynn, who chose to abort a baby because she was not

conflicts that manifested in their relations. Also, Checkers are eager to be a white girl by saying that I

experience physical violence, unfair treatment, and prejudice, they endure these experiences.
Consequently, the Native Indian lose their confidence and faith in their ethnicity and fully fallen for

As concentration, and therefore thinking becomes more difficult for depressed individuals, a more
simplistic form of therapy, may prove to be more appropriate to not only engage the client, but also
keep their attention long enough to experience positive effects. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a
structured style of therapy requiring direction from the clinician. Studies have found that the skill of
the therapist is directly related to the outcomes of therapy (Strunk et al., 2010). As this style of therapy
involves collaboration, as well as gentle direction by the therapist (Sudak, 2011), an incompetent
therapist can lead to therapy not being tailored to the individual, therefore reducing therapeutic gains.
Studies have found clients reported that at times they have felt under pressure to give particular
answers when receiving CBT, or that therapy was not flexible (Barnes et al., (2013). Therefore a style
of therapy that is flexible in nature, and directed toward areas that the client most wishes to work on

Ibsen vs. Tolstoy

Readings in the Humanities
Professor Tovey Van Aulen
March 23, 2010
Societal Influences in 19th Century Europe During the Victorian Era, living in the middle class, many
people were strongly influenced by society, especially in Europe. People felt that they needed to look
perfect in the public eye and everything they did had to be something that society would approve of,
otherwise it was out of the question. Henrik Ibsen uses the main characters of Nora and Torvald, in his
play, A Doll s House just as Leo Tolstoy uses the main characters of Ivan and Praskovya, in his novel,
The Death of Ivan Ilyich, to convey what it was like to live in a middle class society in nineteenth
century Europe. By showing that society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nora and Torvold had a nanny for the children, and Ivan and Praskovya had a butler and pantry boy
who became very important to Ivan in the weeks of his life. Gender played an enormous role in
shaping Nora, Torvald, Ivan, and Praskovya s identities. Society had very clear views of what a man
should be and what a woman should be. The men were to be the providers for the family, they had to
have a respectable job and take care of all the family s financial needs. The women were to stay at
home and tend to her husbands and children s needs, whatever they may be. Nora and Torvald were
the perfect example of this. Nora stayed home with the children and the nanny and decorated the
house and made everything comfortable for everyone while Torvold worked at the bank. When Nora
took the loan out from the bank she had to hide it from everyone because that was a very disrespectful
thing to do in society s eyes at that time, which is why when Torvold found out he was infuriated.
When Torvold realized that if anyone found out their reputation would be destroyed and everything he
worked hard for would be gone because it would have seemed that they have stepped out of their
gender roles and gone against society, he said to her, Now you have destroyed all my happiness. You
have ruined all my future. (Ibsen 77).

Somatosensory Motor Research
Introduction
The purpose of this lab was to determine which regions of the body have the most touch receptors and
in turn which regions of the body have the greatest representation on the somatosensory cortex map.
The somatosensory cortex map is located in the parietal lobe and processes tactile information (D.
Purves, Augustine, Fitzpatrick, 2001). According to Neuroscience 2nd edition, the increased
representation of specific body areas in somatosensory cortex map is a function of evolution (D.
Purves, Augustine, Fitzpatrick, 2001). To determine the regions of the body with the greatest
representation on the somatosensory cortex map a two point discrimination test was selected. This test

In order to do this a hypothesis was created and was as follows: It was hypothesized that the finger
tips would have the greatest representation on the somatosensory cortex map compared to other areas
of the body because humans have evolved to preform precision tasks with the hands (Marzke, 1997).
This hypothesis was proven to be correct because for subject one, the four highest values recorded
were finger tips. The fifth value recorded for subject one was a tie between the tip of the thumb and
the palm of the hand. On subject two, the three highest values recorded were: the tip of the index
finger, the tip of the thumb, and the nose. The following values were the fourth finger and then a tie
between the fifth finger and the palm of the hand. This data demonstrates that humans have evolved to
have fingers capable of preforming detailed tasks. This lab re enforces the results of other studies (D.
Purves, Augustine, Fitzpatrick, 2001). Outside of the fingers, the only area of the body that stood out
in the data set for both subjects was the palm of the hand. Additionally, the nose of subject two had a
high reciprocal, however, the nose of subject one did not. This data makes a followup study on the
effects of aging on tactile spatial acuity significantly easier and would provide more applicable
conclusions. The ranging percent differences

societies. The Oxford English dictionary defined scholarship as the attainments of a scholar, learning,
and erudition in a person (Scholarship, 2016). Scholarship is a noun of academic study or
achievement, learning at a higher level. Scholarship in nursing has become an essential part of our
professional evolution. Professional nursing practice at all levels is grounded in ethical practice.
Essentially, nurses need the constant searching and analysis attitude toward their practice and the care
environment. The conceptualization of scholarship in nursing has been seen most times from the point
of teaching and research. The master s prepared nurses examine policies and seek evidence for every
aspect of practice, thereby disseminating current evidence and identifying gaps where evidence is
lacking. Students being prepared for direct care roles will have graduate level content that builds upon
an undergraduate foundation in health assessment, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. Having a
master prepared graduates with a strong background in these three areas is seen as imperative from the
practice perspective (American Association of College of Nursing [AACN], 2011, p. 9). The
scholarship consists of continuing education on advanced degree programs. This advancement

Analysis Of Dubliners By James Joyce
Dubliners by James Joyce compiles a variety of snapshots of life and culture; it captures people with
very different situations and backgrounds all against the backdrop of early 20th century Dublin.
Though the characters are not tethered to reality, the themes often relate directly to events in Joyce s
experience (Gray). The stories in totality do not follow one constant plot, but if one story can be said
to represent the collection as a whole, it is certainly The Dead. The final story in the series, The Dead
encapsulates the entirety of feelings that Joyce has towards Dublin and connects Joyce with the
narrative in an indirect but powerful way. Each of the other stories contains elements, symbols, or
motifs that support or relate to those within The Dead. Love, loss, alcoholism, money, and other
themes are tools; the reader may learn from them through the ways that Joyce s characters view them.
Ireland was Joyce s home, but despite his love for the country, he disliked how lethargic it had
become. He distanced himself from the its inability to embrace a changing world. Dubliners is not
simply a criticism of the Irish, however. Though the first fourteen stories demonstrate Joyce s
judgements on the different manifestations of Dubliners paralysis, The Dead written several years
after the others and while Joyce was no longer living in Ireland reveals Joyce s own altered perception
of the condition of Irish culture (Gray). The central purpose of Dubliners is to

Communism And Greed In George Orwell s Animal Farm
In the world today, Communism is a feared form of government; societies look upon North Korea in
fear, and are scared of a day when their own government may turn to communism. When George
Orwell wrote and published Animal Farm in 1945, it was the year
WWII had ended. During the War, China and Russia were two major countries at war with each other;
at the time China had become a communist country. George Orwell, who greatly disapproved of
Communism, wrote Animal Farm to show the terrors of Communism and what causes it; which he
believed was greed and the desire for power. In Animal Farm, George Orwell examines and
illuminates that power and greed are two dangerous desires that will corrupt one and develop radical
behavior that will eventually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout his life, George had weak lungs, so when World War II came about, he was deemed unfit
for any type of military service ( George Orwell History ). In 1941, he obtained work with BBC.
Orwell kept an eye on propaganda broadcasts ( George Orwell History )to India and counteracted
them, to prevent them from undermining imperial connections ( George Orwell History ). It was after
resigning from this position (after holding it for two years) that he published Animal Farm. For most
in the post war society, it struck a note of connection to the victims of the terrors of communism; it
also made Orwell a popular character. He was very strong with his opinion on government. While he
was extremely anticommunist and anti totalitarian ( George Orwell History ), he did belief in true
communism, not the totalitarian kind like that found in North Korea and Stalin era Russia. His beliefs
are filtered into his novelette, Animal Farm. It has obvious connections to Communism and tactics
used by those communist leaders in World War

Theme Of Isolation In Lord Of The Flies
Francesco Petrarch once said Man has no greater enemy than himself. It can be assumed that if man is
left alone, he is with himself; from that, the question, What happens if man is isolated, with only his
enemy to keep him company? can be posed. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, this
question is developed and given an answer, with the isolated setting bringing out the nature of man
and blurring the distinguishment between civilized and savage. The author used the setting of a
deserted island to illustrate the motifs of civilization and darkness through the effect it has on the
characters. The isolation that comes with crashing on a deserted island affects all the characters, seen
most dramatically through Jack. Being brought into this setting transforms the civilized choir leader
into a savage hunter and murderer who s given into his inner demons. When the boys first crash land
onto the island, they were proper English schoolboys. Due to the separation from society, however, the
boys start to regress, giving in to their more animalistic instincts. Jack starts off as the chapter
chorister and head boy who tries to take leadership of the tribe the boys form; he fails to do so, turning
him away from order and reason (Golding 22). He neglects his duties and turns his attention to
hunting the native pigs, prompting him to let the fire, their gateway back to society, go out; this pits
Ralph against Jack, who represent civilization and savagery

Optimism In Voltaire s Candide
FACT: What I found extremely fascinating in Voltaire s work is the idea that It is demonstrable that
things cannot be otherwise than as they are; for all being created for an end, all is necessarily for the
best end (83). This quote by the character Pangloss is one of extreme optimism. He believes that they
are living in the best world possible and everything that happens is meant to be. This really resonates
with me because I do have the belief that God has an influence over our lives, so with that being said
anything that happens good or bad God had a reason for. The concept of faith is what plays a key role
in this belief; we must have faith in God and what path he paves for us whether we understand it or
not. Sometimes he gives us obstacles to overcome to make us stronger, while other times he may bring
good fortune. It may be hard at times to understand why God does what he does, but we must be able
to take a step back and have faith in God s plan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pangloss states from the beginning that we live in the best of all possible worlds (81). Which is
seemingly the furthest thing from perfect as we continue to read. Everything that happens to Candide
after being banished from the castle is a series of events that would most likely lead someone to
believe that the world is a terrible place. Misfortune seems to follow Candide and his optimistic view
of the world. He wanders for a time to the point of starvation when he is found by a group of men who
bring him back to health, but only to place him into the hands of the Bulgar military where he is to
face even more tragedy. Even through all the abuse and torture he still maintains this naïve outlook
that life is the way it s supposed to be. Why would being beaten and abused be what was meant to be
in this best of all possible

  • 2. Property, Plant, and Equipment Property, Plant and Equipment Property, Plant and Equipment I Nature of Accounting Issues Businesses purchase and use a variety of fixed assets, such as equipment, furniture, tools, machinery, buildings, and land. These fixed assets are long term or relatively permanent assets. Also, they are tangible assets because they exist physically. We now want to look into the International Accounting Standards Board and framework for the preparation and presentation of financial statements. The conceptual frameworks are split into five categories and are in the following order: the objective of financial statements; underlying assumptions; the qualitative characteristics that determine the usefulness of information in financial statements; the definition, recognition, and measurement of the elements from which financial statements are constructed; and the concepts of capital and capital maintenance (Ankarath 11). • 4. Persuasive Essay On Home Ownership The American dream is a phrase which evokes a different meaning depending on whom you ask. However, there are some similar concepts that run throughout most interpretations. Most Americans envision being able to live a happy life if they work hard enough. This would most likely include a stable income, fulfilling career, and a place to live. In recent years, I believe the thought of an ideal living situation has evolved. As living costs continue to increase, many Millennials are finding it harder to move out on their own and be able to support themselves. The vision of a big house with a white picket fence is no longer the ultimate goal, because many young people just don t find it realistic in today s economy. Home ownership is a big deal and comes along with many advantages and freedoms. Being able to own property under your own name is a privilege that not everybody gets. Having a house eliminates many hassles that renters face on a daily basis. Dealing with annoying roommates, tight living quarters, and landlords are no longer a concern once you move into your own house. You have your own privacy and space to call your own and decorate as you want. Many people view buying a house as a superior choice, because it is an asset and goes up in value over the years. On the contrary, when you rent, you are paying monthly just to live in a space that belongs to someone else. Owning your own home also comes with some cons, as does everything else. The two magnetic poles for each magnet consist of the South Pole and the North Pole. Poles that are un similar attract each other, while poles that are similar repel each other. A permanent magnet attracts a non magnetized object that contains iron to either of its poles. The earth is a giant magnate itself, with its north geographical pole pointing in the direction of the magnetic South Pole. This causes the north pole of a compass needle to point north. While isolated positive and negative charges exist, isolated magnetic poles do not exist. Poles of a magnet always exist in pairs. It was 1819, when Han Christian Oersted, the Danish scientist noted for the first time that a compass needle underwent deflection when to a wire carrying current was placed close to it. This was the start of the relationship between magnetism and moving charges. Andre Ampere in France reached a similar conclusion. Soon afterwards Michael Faraday in England and Joseph Henry in the United States found that a moving a magnet placed near a conducting loop can induce a current in the loop. The radioactive uranium is used in atomic bombs. Also, people use it in what is called nuclear power, an energy source that fourteen percent of the world uses. (NPR 3) In a nuclear power plant, a process called fission that uses uranium is used to generate power. During fission, each uranium atom is bombarded by neutrons, causing each uranium atom to turn into one atom of barium, one atom of krypton, and three neutrons. • 8. Implant False Memory Literature Review Strategies and Techniques Used to Implant False Memories Memories are vital components in an individual s life because they give people a sense of identity. As individuals, we create memories throughout our everyday lives. Some memories may positively affect people, while others may negatively affect people. Although it may seem logical to think that memories are always reliable and accurate, a plethora of research has indicated that memories can be changed and created. The notion that memories should be reliable is prevalent in the judicial system when witnesses provide accounts of events because it is assumed that their memory statements are generally accurate (Shaw Porter, 2015). Roedieger III and McDermott (1995) defined false memories as remembering events that never happened, or remembering them quite differently from the way they happened (pg 803). Many people are aware that memory can fade and temporarily be unavailable. Sometimes false memories can be so compelling that they seem as accurate as true memories (Loftus, 2003). This literature review focuses on strategies and false memory paradigms utilized to create and implant false memories. Misinformation Effect The misinformation effect became prevalent in psychology during the 1970s when Elizabeth Loftus conducted research showing that individuals can form memories of events that never transpired by having events suggested to them (Leding, 2009). Normally, from a business standpoint it s wrong; but ironically from the employees standpoint, they usually feel that they deserve it, or they ve earned it, so it s not actually fraudulent. A big flaw in dealing with expense reimbursement is that careless, or lax, processing is usually at the root of reimbursing false expense claims. The reports are just shuffled through and sent in for payment (there were even stories of complicity between employees and the reimbursement clerk who received a fair share). This is one area where repeated ethics and fraud trainings for employees might prove beneficial. Procedures that I might recommend to the Board to reduce the possibility of reoccurrence would be, to have stricter supervision and detailed auditing of expense reports, which would include original receipts, before reimbursement is made. If the expense report is from a Manager, it should be required to go through at least two others for approval. In addition, internal control systems and strict policies must be established and enforced. A corporate expense account, or Agency credit card, should come with some type of letter of intent as to how the account is to be used and the ramifications one will face if it is not used in the manner intended. The letter should clearly state what items are considered to be reimbursable as work related: gas, travel, supplies etc. The employee would be expected to sign the letter of intent that states they understand the proper use of the account. Introduction: Background Generally speaking, universities place emphasis on students intellectual development more than their personal growth. Nevertheless, many students experience college life stressful. College students often find themselves feeling isolated as they begin their lives on a university campus (Corey, Corey, Corey, 2014). Therefore, their social needs in addition to their academic needs must be addressed (see Corey, et al., 2014; Ramsay, Jones, Barker, 2007). Developmentally, college age individuals transition from adolescence to young adulthood (Gardiner Kosmitzki, 2010). One of developmental theorists, Erik Erikson (in Lerner, 2002) postulated that young adults developmental task is negotiating their identity within the intimate relationship. Furthermore, Côté (2006) stressed that reflecting and exploring their lives in adolescence to emerging adulthood helps them obtain what he called identity capital, which refers to a repertoire of personal resources (Côté, 2006, p. 91). It includes both tangible and intangible resources and attributes (Côté, 2006). Lack of engagement or passivity of adolescents and emerging adults result in diffusion ( apathetic noncommitment (Côté, 2006, p. 104). He successfully creates a world in which technology is vastly more sophisticated than it was during the time in which this book was written and in which fear is used as a tool to control individuals who do not conform to the social norms. The horrible and dangerous futuristic world controlled repressively by the government and the thought police is portrayed wonderfully by Orwell who is able to create the perfect dystopian realm. George Orwell was inspired by many events, which took place throughout his life. He lived through World War I, II and part of the Cold War and therefore used these events to help create the world of 1984. It is not a question of having more, or more significant, opportunities: the opportunity for me to study is there now. Rather it is a question of being able to take advantage of the opportunity by being in control of my life. Positive freedom in this example is a matter of my having the capacity to take the rational option as well as having the opportunity: whereas, according to a concept of negative freedom, the opportunities that I have alone determine the extent of my freedom. I am free to study in the negative sense since no one is preventing me from doing it; no one has locked away my books, or hidden my pen and paper; no one has dragged me out of the door to go to the movies, or chained me to my easy chair in front of the television. However, I am not free in the positive sense; I am not truly free, because I am a slave to my tendency to be sidetracked. True positive freedom would involve seizing control of my life and making rational choices for myself. Those who defend positive freedom believe that just because no one is preventing you from doing something, it does not follow that you are genuinely free. Yutaka Nakamura in 1979, working under RTRI (Railway Technical Research Institute) of JNR, developed a new idea for EEW system and called it UrEDAS, Urgent Earthquake Detection and Alarm System. The main UrEDAS functions are the estimation of magnitude and location, vulnerability assessment and issuing warnings within a few seconds using initial P wave motion at a single station. UrEDAS calculates parameters such as back azimuth, predominant frequency for magnitude evaluation and vertical to horizontal ratio for discrimination between P and S waves, using the amplitude for each sample in realtime. UrEDAS can issue a P wave warning with a processing time of just three seconds after detecting the P wave. After the 1995 Kobe earthquake, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As vb = ab/2πF. The dominant frequency (F) and amplification factor (A) are directly related to the seismic motion applied to the train body. The dynamic characteristics of the trains are known in general. F and A are estimated from F g and Ag for a train resting on the ground surface. For a train resting on a structure, these values are termed as Fsg and Asg for both structures and ground. Site characteristics are reflected by the Kd value. In the case of a large Kd value, work rate (w) and the possibility of derailment/overturn are also large. The Kd value was therefore considered as an index of vulnerability of trains to derailment overturn. As previously mentioned, Kd values for a train derailment/overturning are directly related to the power of earthquake motion. It has also been clearly shown that there is a strong relation between K value and damage. Starting from equation (3), two new parameters PI (P wave Index) and DI (Damage Intensity) were proposed. The earthquake destructiveness is estimated with the help of the power density PD (W/kg) of the earthquake vibration which is calculated from the inner product of the acceleration vector a (cm/s2) and the velocity vector v ... Some people save until they have cash to purchase however, many people borrow money from a bank or lending institution; when a person borrows money to purchase a home the loan is called a mortgage. The lender is called the mortgagee and the borrower is called the mortgagor; banks have several different types of mortgages: fixed rate mortgage, adjustable rate mortgage, investment mortgage and much more. Borrowers have to undergo the lender underwriting process to show financial capability of repaying the mortgage (Makarov Plantin, 2013). This hypothesis was proven to be correct because for subject one, the four highest values recorded were finger tips. The fifth value recorded for subject one was a tie between the tip of the thumb and the palm of the hand. On subject two, the three highest values recorded were: the tip of the index finger, the tip of the thumb, and the nose. The purpose of this paper is to integrate the relationship between nursing profession with scholarship, praxis, and evidence based practice to improve quality of care for individuals and their respective societies. The Oxford English dictionary defined scholarship as the attainments of a scholar, learning, and erudition in a person (Scholarship, 2016). Scholarship is a noun of academic study or achievement, learning at a higher level. Scholarship in nursing has become an essential part of our professional evolution. Professional nursing practice at all levels is grounded in ethical practice. Essentially, nurses need the constant searching and analysis attitude toward their practice and the care environment. The conceptualization of scholarship in nursing has been seen most times from the point of teaching and research. The master s prepared nurses examine policies and seek evidence for every aspect of practice, thereby disseminating current evidence and identifying gaps where evidence is lacking. Students being prepared for direct care roles will have graduate level content that builds upon an undergraduate foundation in health assessment, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. The stories in totality do not follow one constant plot, but if one story can be said to represent the collection as a whole, it is certainly The Dead. While he was extremely anticommunist and anti totalitarian ( George Orwell History ), he did belief in true communism, not the totalitarian kind like that found in North Korea and Stalin era Russia. His beliefs are filtered into his novelette, Animal Farm. It has obvious connections to Communism and tactics used by those communist leaders in World War ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Theme Of Isolation In Lord Of The Flies Francesco Petrarch once said Man has no greater enemy than himself. It can be assumed that if man is left alone, he is with himself; from that, the question, What happens if man is isolated, with only his enemy to keep him company? can be posed. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, this question is developed and given an answer, with the isolated setting bringing out the nature of man and blurring the distinguishment between civilized and savage. The author used the setting of a deserted island to illustrate the motifs of civilization and darkness through the effect it has on the characters. The isolation that comes with crashing on a deserted island affects all the characters, seen most dramatically through Jack. Being brought into this setting transforms the civilized choir leader into a savage hunter and murderer who s given into his inner demons. When the boys first crash land onto the island, they were proper English schoolboys. Due to the separation from society, however, the boys start to regress, giving in to their more animalistic instincts. Jack starts off as the chapter chorister and head boy who tries to take leadership of the tribe the boys form; he fails to do so, turning him away from order and reason (Golding 22). He neglects his duties and turns his attention to hunting the native pigs, prompting him to let the fire, their gateway back to society, go out; this pits Ralph against Jack, who represent civilization and savagery ... • 46. Optimism In Voltaire s Candide FACT: What I found extremely fascinating in Voltaire s work is the idea that It is demonstrable that things cannot be otherwise than as they are; for all being created for an end, all is necessarily for the best end (83). This quote by the character Pangloss is one of extreme optimism. He believes that they are living in the best world possible and everything that happens is meant to be. This really resonates with me because I do have the belief that God has an influence over our lives, so with that being said anything that happens good or bad God had a reason for. The concept of faith is what plays a key role in this belief; we must have faith in God and what path he paves for us whether we understand it or not. Sometimes he gives us obstacles to overcome to make us stronger, while other times he may bring good fortune. It may be hard at times to understand why God does what he does, but we must be able to take a step back and have faith in God s plan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pangloss states from the beginning that we live in the best of all possible worlds (81). Which is seemingly the furthest thing from perfect as we continue to read. Everything that happens to Candide after being banished from the castle is a series of events that would most likely lead someone to believe that the world is a terrible place. Misfortune seems to follow Candide and his optimistic view of the world. He wanders for a time to the point of starvation when he is found by a group of men who bring him back to health, but only to place him into the hands of the Bulgar military where he is to face even more tragedy. Even through all the abuse and torture he still maintains this naïve outlook that life is the way it s supposed to be. Why would being beaten and abused be what was meant to be in this best of all possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
