The Birth Of Pregnancy After C Sections
A majority of mothers prepare for their pregnancies with full intention of a vaginal birth at the end of
their third trimester. However, there is a possibility that medical conditions could arise, such as a baby
who is positioned incorrectly, preeclampsia, or toxemia. Therefore, a cesarean delivery is the safest
way. Most believe that subsequent pregnancies require subsequent C sections. Today, many mothers
are opting for VBACs aka vaginal birth after C sections. A C Section, or Cesarean Section, is a major
surgery to deliver a baby who may suffer from complications or could be breech. They may also be
done in response to the mother and the complications that she may have. It is done by cutting through
the wall of the mother s abdomen. It can be life threatening to the mother and the baby. It can raise the
risk to the mother and could even complicate future pregnancies. American College of Obstetricians
and Gynecologist suggest offering the opportunity to pursue a VBAC. An evidence review in 2003
found that overall VBAC success rates were greater than fifty percent (Ebelle 1192 4). This study
shows that the success rate of VBACs are improving each year. C Sections are the most common
surgery in the U.S. and account for about one third of all U.S. births today. Since the 1990s, the C
Section rate has risen sixty percent (Shute: Doctors Urge.... ). The risk of a C Section to a mother
include but are not limited to: weakened uterus, bladder injuries, and/or blood

Polio Essay
Poliomyelitis Poliomyelitis (more commonly known as polio) is a highly infectious disease, in which
it affect the cells in the central nervous system (CNS). It mainly affect young children, mostly under
the age of 5. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries which have polio present within the
population. Polio virus is most commonly found in area with low standards of sanitation. It spreads
through faecal oral transmission or through contaminated food and water. The polio virus works by
replicating the motor neurons in the CNS and then destroying the original motor neuron cells. The
virus manifests itself in the throat and the intestines, where the virus multiplies and spreads to other
parts of the body through the use of the bloodstream. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In cases of non paralytic polio, the body doesn t become paralytic but, there may be acute stiffness in
the arms and legs. Non paralytic polio may include symptoms like; fever, sore throat, headache,
nausea and vomiting, fatigue, pain in the back and neck, stiffness in the arms and legs, muscle
tenderness, spasms and in some of the worst cases meningitis which is an infection of the membranes
surrounding the brain. There are three types of paralytic polio, spinal, bulbar and bulbospinal. Spinal
Polio attacks the motor neurons in the spinal cord which results in paralysis in the arm and legs, it can
also cause breathing problems. Bulbar Polio affects the medulla oblongata, a muscle in the brain
responsible for breathing, heart rate. It can lead to problematic health issues such as poor eyesight,
difficulty in swallowing and respiratory issues like breathing problems. Bulbospinal Polio includes
both the symptoms spinal and bulbar polio. There are also cases of Post Polio Syndrome which is a
cluster of symptoms that affect up to 50% of all polio patients. On average, the syndrome occurs 35
years after the infection. Symptoms of post polio syndrome include; muscle and joint pain that
progress throughout the body, muscle atrophy which is shrinking muscle volume, unexplained
exhaustion and swallowing and breathing

The Primary Obstacles Of Survey Studies
One of the primary obstacles in survey studies is often eliciting responses from surveyed individuals.
As we have seen throughout this semester, larger sample sizes are beneficial to statistical analyses, as
increasing the sample size can increase the power of a hypothesis test, reduce the sampling variability
in a sample, and meet the baseline number of collected observations that are needed to perform
specific analyses. This is not to say that larger sample sizes are unequivocally better; a truly random,
yet representative sample is more important. If one already has a large, randomly collected and
representative sample, increasing the sample size will not improve the analysis. Our study focuses on
how survey topic affects the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Survey topics will rotate between control, controversial, and neutral during times of data collection.
Methods
Who: We surveyed Vassar students sitting alone at tables at the Retreat, and Vassar students as they
entered and exited the Deece. We believe that by surveying individuals from the Retreat and the
Deece, we achieved a truly random sample with respect to our research question. In other words, we
do not think that the choice to eat at the Deece or Retreat directly affects willingness to take a survey.
What: The response rate (Yes/No) to short anonymous surveys offered on control, controversial and
neutral topics.
Where: The Retreat and Deece. These areas are well trafficked by most of the Vassar student
population, and we believe that individuals surveyed here are representative of Vassar student body
with respect to our research question.
When: November 11 and 12 (between 2PM and 4PM)
Why: We are interested in determining if survey topic (neutral vs. controversial) affects the number of
Vassar students that are willing to participate in that survey.
How: (see methodology for additional information) We went to The Retreat on November 11 for one
hour and asked students sitting alone at tables if they wished to participate in a short anonymous
survey. Survey topics for the control (no topic), neutral (milk preference), and controversial (abortion
rights) were rotated per student asked. If students said yes, we gave them a short dummy

The Period Of The Renaissance Period
Renaissance literally means rebirth. It refers particularly to the rebirth of learning during this period.
There was a tremendous revival of classical literature and art, but in the end it was the joining of this
with the intellect of the Italian people that lead to the change of the Western World. This period was
definitely more than just a rebirth though, it was also an age of new discoveries, both geographic and
intellectual. Both of these resulted in changes of tremendous importance for Western civilization.
In the economy, for example, there were many innovations that lead to a commercial revolution. There
were innovations in banking, accounting, company structure, insurance and commercial law and the
invention of commercial capitalism. All of these things worked together to usher in a new world that
was very different from that of classical Antiquity but they also laid the foundation for what was to
come during the Renaissance period.
When looking at the culture during this time there was great influence from the Humanist movement
led by Petrarch. There has been some controversy over time as to exactly what the humanist
movement was all about. According to Burkhardt the time was a discovery of man, which was in
direct contrast to the current secular interests of the time. Modern humanists are defined as someone
who has a set of human values, which are normally secular in nature, that are based on a particular
conception of many and his potential.

Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Forever
Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Forever
Francis Ford Coppola s magnum opus Apocalypse Now was ladened with problems and difficulties
before and after filming. These problems ranged from those having to do with the cast and crew, to
those having to do with the circumstances surrounding the filming, to those having to do with the
script, to those dealing in direct regard to the very sanity of all of those involved with Apocalypse
Now. Despite the myriad of problems that contributed to this acclaimed film s failure, Apocalypse
Now still became a success in its own right, and a true classic by any director s standards.

He chose to set a feel for his scenes unknown , then have the actors improvise what was going to
happen (Behr). Coppola also had these actors make lists of what they felt that their characters should
do in different situations (Behr). This caused an effect of the script writing itself, as well as creating a
deeper rift between it and the source material. Marlon Brando, who portrayed Kurtz, fed the fire of
deep confusion where the script was concerned. Both Heart of Darkness, and Milius original script, as
well as Coppola s later interpretation of these, called for the character of Kurtz to be a frail, sickly, and
dying man. Brando, however, refused to get into shape as Coppola had requested. Brando was in fact
so fat during filming that he was shy about it (Behr). Coppola first suggested that he rewrite the script
to accommodate the character to Brando by setting him up as a gluttonous, man consumed by his own
evil excesses (Behr). Brando refused to be undignified in his portrayal, so the filming, as well as the
writing remained stagnant for days on end. In the end Coppola merely set Brando and Sheen free to
improvise for three weeks, leaving him with an incoherent batch of footage that, with the exception of
the death lines of The Horror! The Horror! (Conrad) had little to do with the script, or the novel. Time
and money

An investigation into the differences between retail and investment banks
Over the past decades, retail banks have remained the main commercial bank for consumers, rather
than corporations or other banks. The investment bank has become more popular amongst individuals,
corporations and governments which are interested in raising their profits. Retail banks and
investment banks have different organizational structures and activities. So they have many
differences, such as services, customers and profits. And this report aims to distinguish between the
retail bank and the investment bank in order to identify their specific service areas. Firstly, the author
will review some literature focusing on the definitions. Secondly, the author will ... Show more

There are also many advantages of the investment banks which usually provide services for the
company. First of all, most of the investment banks are global company and it can provide services
more widely than the retail banks. Such as Morgan Stanley is a leading global financial services firm
providing a wide range of investment banking, securities, investment management and wealth
management It reports US$779 billion as assets under its management. Its headquarter located in
Midtown Manhattan , New York City. It has companies in 37 countries with over 1,200 offices,
employees dedicated to local businesses, government agencies, institutions and individuals. So the
investment banks can provide the services (such as trading of derivatives, fixed income instruments,
foreign exchange and commodities) all over the world. Secondly, the revenue of the investment banks
significantly more than profit of other types of banks. If you save your extra money in the retail banks,
you can only get the interest from the rates. But if you sand your money to the investment banks you
can get remarkable returns although it has a high risk. For example the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is
an American investment bank and securities. And it provides mergers and acquisitions advice,
underwriting services, asset management, and prime brokerage to its clients, which include
corporations, governments and individuals. Amazingly, the company in US profits reached a

The Ethics Of Sports Apparel
Founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank, a former University of Maryland football player, Under Armour is
an innovative company in the sports apparel industry. Under Armour s founder Kevin Plank came up
with a ground breaking idea that changed the way that sports apparel is looked at today. Plank wanted
to originate an apparel that would help athletes like him keep cool and dry when they engaged in
vigorous activities during high temperature condition, so he created sports apparel using synthetic
materials as an alternative to natural fibers such as cotton. Being a former athlete allowed Plank to
understand the discomfort of wearing a sweat cotton fiber shirt during sport practice, or work out, and
he worked relentlessly to develop a shirt that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Provide a five forces analysis to support your answer.
I believe that bargaining power of customers and threat of new entrants are the three main key forces
that have the potential to impact negatively Under Armour s growth stability. Under Armour relies
mainly on Dick s Sporting Goods and The Sports Authority for more than 20% of its revenues and
problems at these retailers could affect its growth pace. While Under Armour faces rigid competition
from Adidas and Nike, they could also see the competition go up from other companies as it does not
hold process or fabric patents. Furthermore, Under Armour s hard core competitors, Nike and Adidas
Group, are continuously coming up with new ideas in order to fight for that number one spot and to
earn the customers loyalty to their brand.
Five Porter Analysis
Competitive Rivalry within the Industry Nike and Adidas pose threat and Under Armour does not hold
patents.
Bargaining power of suppliers Diverse supplier base limits their bargaining power.
Bargaining Power of Customers Wholesale customers such as Dick s Sporting Goods and The Sports
Authority hold leverage.
Threat Of New Entrants Existing sports apparel companies could enter the performance apparel
market.
Threat of substitute products Demand for Under Armour s products is expected to continue.

Homeless Children and the Educational System Essay
Homeless Children and the Educational System
Many people still think of homeless transients as alcoholics and/or mentally disabled. The truth is, the
current homeless population consists of runaway adolescents, single adult males or females, battered
women and over one million homeless families with children typically headed by a female parent.
To be homeless means that one s primary residence is a public or private shelter, emergency housing,
hotel, motel, living with family or friends or any public space like parks, automobiles, aqueducts or
abandoned buildings (Pawlas, 1996).
Statement of the Problem
With the number of homeless students on the rise, schools encounter new educational challenges that

Under the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act, the fifty states, Puerto Rico and the District
of Columbia received funding to investigate the number and the needs of homeless children, to
identify obstacles that would prevent them from receiving an education and to develop a plan to
overcome these problems (Pawlas, 1996). The McKinney Act also provides emergency food
assistance, adult literacy instruction, job training, health services and other programs. Under this act,
homeless children are ensured access to the same, free appropriate public education other children in
the state receive.
Subsequently, in 1990 and 1994, amendments were incorporated into the earlier Act of 1987 to ensure
equal access to schools for homeless children. States were told to remove barriers in enrollment,
attendance, or success in schools proof of immunization, guardianship and birth certificate
requirements (Eddowes, 1994). These provisions made it clear that everything possible should be done
to support the educational pursuits of homeless children and youth.
Through the 1990 and 1994 amendments to the early Act of 1987, legislation provided formula grants
for states to carry out the Educational for Homeless Children and Youth Program (subtitle VII B). The
following are key provisions of the law (Rafferty, 1997 1998):
The law requires states to ensure that local educational agencies do not create a separate education

Minor Characters In The Things They Carried By Tim O Brien
In The Things They Carried, minor characters play major roles in developing the plot and theme of the
novel. The three minor characters that stand out are Elroy, Marry Anne Bell, and Kathleen. These
characters may not be shown routinely in the novel, but the effect that they have on the environment
and characters in the story are powerful. Having these minor characters interact with the major ones
further develop the theme that Tim O Brien is aiming for in this novel. Elroy has a small role in this
novel, and may not even be an actual character, but rather a symbol. However, Elroy played a huge
part in O Brien s life when he is deciding on whether to go to war, or run away to Canada. It does not

Kathleen had such a major role in this novel that she could almost be labeled as a main character.
Kathleen functioned as a reality check to O Brien. Therefore, when he looked at her, he remembered
that Vietnam was in the past, and he had to move on from his guilt. O Brien had to rid himself of any
past trauma if he wanted to live a happy life, and make sure it did not affect his family. Kathleen made
a few appearances throughout the novel, but she really shines through the most when O Brien explains
the time he took her back to Vietnam. Kathleen helped O Brien rid himself of any past guilt and regret
that he may have had. He finally realized that the past is the past, and he must move on to provide a
good life for her. This is a prime example of how minor characters can have such a huge effect on the
main characters and completely change the route of the

Gender Is Not As Cut And Dry As You Might Think
Sir! Sir! Do you realize this is the ladies room? The concept of gender is not as cut and dry as you
might think. The term gender is often used incorrectly as a synonym for our biological sex. Gender is
more of a predetermined set of ideas and characteristics used in identifying socially acceptable
behaviors and appearances for the sexes. It is not determined by the biological sex of the person. From
an early age we begin to develop ideas of what it means to be male or female by observing others.
Gender falls on a spectrum from masculine to feminine with many combinations in between. Gender
expression and gender identity are also not the same thing. Gender expression is not related directly to
how a person perceives their gender, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People with gender Identity crises do not feel their genitalia reflects who they are inside. They may
feel a powerful drive to have their genitalia match their self image opting for sex reassignment
surgery. Gender expression is far more relaxed than it has been throughout our history in America, but
it still poses a problems for some on a daily basis. Gender expression is one area where women have a
social advantage over men. It is far more socially acceptable for a woman to dress masculine than for
a man to dress feminine; although neither are without predigests. Using a public restrooms seems like
a simple task to the majority of us. This is not the case for people who fall outside the gender norm.
Seldom does one have a choice beyond boy s room or girl s room. This can be a very stressful
environment if your outward appearance doesn t match your biological sex. Spotlighting those who
are not perceived by society as gender normal could lead to depression, anxiety and self loathing.
Something as simple as going to the restroom in the mall could lead to a violent encounter. This would
be greatly reduced of people would just be more observant. This all because society developed rules
everyone must follow in order to be perceived as normal. Today s young people tend to be more aware
of the gender spectrum. Terms like gender identity and gender expression are better understood. Words

A Brief Look at Scientology
1. What is a cult?
There is no exact, unified definition of a cult. Some people even believe that a cult isn t a religious
group. How I feel I could describe a cult is as follows. I feel a cult is negative for the outsiders and
people that distance themselves from a cult after joining one for a while. But I feel that a cult is a very
positive place for someone who is loyal and cooperative to the said cult. People change to the absolute
extreme when joining/entering the cult. Any family member who is not part of the cult is to be
banished from the Scientologist part of the family never to be talked to again. If you re a part of said
cult, and you would like to not be part of the cult or any of cult activities, you are banished from any
family members in the cult, and any friends in the cult. When you leave a cult, you are blackmailed to
the point where some have left wherever they re living at the time. They believe that they have to
show how everyone is so happy. In a cult, they basically control every single thing they do, or that is
how I feel as an outsider. Cults send members to recruit others, as said before, and the so called
recruiters are always so positive when talking about the cult they have joined and the cult they would
like you you join. Once you join a cult, you are controlled to everything you do.
2. Is Scientology a cult?
Scientology is a cult, or at least, as I would understand it to be in my mind. So, yes. However, the

Stereotyping in Mona in the Promised Land Essay
Throughout the book, Mona in the Promised Land, the main characters are faced with stereotypes
which they cannot control. Stereotypes in society shape the way people are perceived. Everyone deals
with their stereotype s in a different way. The two characters who deal with the most stereotypes are
Mona, and Barbara. According to their stereotypes, Barbara is a better all around person than Mona,
due to her social class, but when it comes to dealing with stereotypes Mona is a much stronger
individual.
Like all people, Mona and Barbara choose to deal with their stereotypes in different ways. Mona
chooses to deal with her stereotypes by trying to change them, while Barbara deals with them by
changing herself. One of the first stereotypes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also tell Barbara that she has a Jewish nose. Instead of fighting to overcome the stereotype that
people had of Barbara s nose, Barbara had her nose fixed. Barbara s nose job showed that she is
willing to assimilate to the norm. This is a huge sign of weakness that shows that Mona is stronger
than Barbara.
Mona too has to deal with religious stereotypes. You don t look Jewish, is one of the most often heard
sayings from the people at the pancake house who find out that Mona is Jewish. Mona s culture says
that she should either be Buddhist or Christian. Mona s appearance, that of a Chinese woman, makes
people think that she is not Jewish, only whites can be Jewish, according to stereotypes. Mona s
cultural stereotype causes Rabbi Horwitz to lose his job at the temple. Even though her Rabbi is fired,
Mona does not stop going to temple. Instead of taking it as a threat, Mona becomes more involved in
temple life to show that Chinese people can be Jewish. By doing this Mona is showing her strength to
overcome stereotypes.
Barbara is Jewish and is assumed by her friends to be rich; a very old stereotype of Jews. This is
shown when Seth meets Barbara at the community center and assumes she is rich. His assumption is
shown later in the book when he say, I didn t think you were this rich! Barbara s family too is under
the pressure to show their wealth. To do this Barbara and her family move to a huge house.

protested in support of the extremist group, justifying the killing of the Americans with the offense the
U.S. had committed against Islam with the release of the now notorious film. After protests calmed
and subsided (at least in the media), on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, many criticized President
Obama of his handling of the attacks in Benghazi. Many on the conservative right accused him of
being an apologist for Islamic terrorism and the killing of the four Americans. This became a hot topic
in the presidential debates in October, when presidential candidate Mitt romney accused Obama of
having gone on an apology tour, where President Obama apologized to other nations for American

Manet and The Bar
Edouard Manet s painting A Bar at the Folies Bergere, was completed in 1882 and is considered his
last great painting. He displayed it at the Paris Salon just one year before his passing. This painting as
vexed art historians throughout the years for its complex visual subject matter and leaves Manets true
interpretation of his painting in the air for discussion. Although there are many interpretations, A Bar
at the Folies Bergere is an avant garde; viewer engaging painting meant to give the viewer a new
perspective, hence the mirror.
At this time the Folies Bergere was one of the most elaborate variety shows in Paris, all sorts of
entertainment could be viewed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You might say it s an unoriginal form of art or you can see it as a different view on the reality of the
people.
We see that it s clear the woman is severed from everything else, making the painting almost
uninviting and lacks a sense of warmth. The images in the mirror are meant to be separate and not
interfere with the frontal image. It s that separation that draws so much of the discussion; without the
sense of her being separate, you have no cause to wonder what is actually going on. It s this interesting
perspective that makes this painting so unique, it s able to draw a conclusion from every viewer and
those conclusions for the most part can be very different.
The fact that the barmaids facial expressions don t seem to match up with the body language portrayed
in the reflection has to make you wonder what the true meaning, or if there is even a true meaning to
this piece, or if Manet s main purpose was to get the viewer to think and ponder about life, society,
morals and take it all in on a personal level. Art is meant to inspire and to showcase your personality
and individuality, but it s also meant to provoke thought and change. Manet s A Bar at the

Remembering In The Devil s Arithmetic
The Devil s Arithmetic focuses on one concept throughout the story, remembering. Hannah is
struggling with how everything in Jewish culture involves thinking about the past, but it s not just
important in Jewish lives. I believe remembering is important to Jews and non jews so that history
doesn t repeat itself, Jews and Non Jews can remember their relatives who have died before, and it
impacts the story because at the end Hannah is proud to remember. As Long as we breathe, we can
see. As long as we remember, those dead are alive inside of us. (113) When Rivka states this to
Hannah it s proof that she is one of many who believe remembering is a way to honor those dead
before us. Honoring past relatives is important not just to Jews, but non

A Brief Summary Of The Banning Of Books
What Johnny Can t Read: Censorship In American Libraries
This article aimed to express the concerns and disappointments of those who are not pleased with the
banning of very popular books they loved as a children. These people do not agree with book banning
because in their times, when they were children, they were allowed to read whatever appealed to them.
Amongst these now banned books are; The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Black Beauty, Scary
Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Catcher in the Rye, as well as many other classic books. But this book
banning is not something fairly new. Book banning started in the early 1990s where by 1994, the
demand for removal of books had increased by more than 50%.
Many of these people believe that

Abstract
The SAARC region with over a billion populations is contiguous to the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal
and the Arabian Sea. Utilization of ocean resources for power generation such as tidal, thermal solar
and wind for energy, along with other green technologies like seaweed farming and sustainable
fisheries for food would need to be incorporated in a broad framework for the region. Development of
ocean based energy systems can be integrated with early warning networks linked by satellite which
can give a few hours to days warning to help mitigate the severity of natural disasters on human life. .
Some of the calamities of note have been the Tsunami of 2004, Bangladesh and Orissa floods,
earthquakes in Nepal and Pakistan, and recent inundation of Chennai due to weather and bad flood
management. A SAARC comprehensive Framework on disaster management was formulated in
alignment with the Hyogo Framework (2005 2015). In addition to the broad objectives of disaster
management and cooperation in the Indian Ocean and surrounding regions, impeding disasters due to
climate change need to be anticipated. Ocean energy systems are still in their infancy, while ocean

from University/College student, adults, senior, and youth.
Over the last few years the libraries patrons have been coming into the library looking for their
additional services they provide other than the main function which has been print lending. According
to an article in the Library Journal, which reference the circulation of print materials versus audio
visual materials despite constituting only 7.6% of the total adult holdings , DVDs accounted for
almost 60% of the circulations of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library . The library now offers
many more services such as video games, DVD, Blu Ray, music, computer use, and Internet. These
services are increasing the amount of circulation and number of people through the doors, but this is
telling that majority of patrons are looking for the audio visual materials of the library. Frequently,
patrons arrive at the library not sure what they want to read. They spend a few minutes walking

Disability and the Media
Portraying The Disabled In the media today, people with disabilities are perceived as tragic heroes or
as medical miracles. They are rarely seen for their intelligence or for their accomplishments excluding
their overcoming disability hardships. The textbook, Everything s an Argument, contains an excerpt
from Charles A. Riley II s book Disability and the Media: Prescriptions for Change. Riley, a
journalism professor at New York s Baruch College, uses appeal to ethos, logos, and pathos to
persuade his audience that their methods of portraying disabled people are in dire need of change.
Riley reports that disabled celebrities are seen as the object of pity, ultimately depriving them of
feelings of normality. As well as pointing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses such diction as allegorical and hagiographer, as well as providing the definitions or
backgrounds of certain terms along the borders of the text. Using such words and providing their
definitions gives the reader a sense of feeling that what they are reading is important. This helps make
his argument effective because the reader will acknowledge the authors good sense of vocabulary and
that alone will show he is even more credible. The author uses this as an appeal to ethos because he is
gaining credibility from his use of diction. One of the appeals that make Riley s argument very
effective is his appeal to pathos. He compares his appeal to how a person with a disability is displayed
as a poster child in exchange for sympathy and donations, bringing her financial rewards of
sponsorships, motivational speaking gigs, and modeling contracts at the expense of being turned into a
latter day poster child (642). This effectively supports Riley s claim because the audience will now
feel sympathetic for the disabled portrayed in the media as someone needing assistance or a sponsor.
Another example is when he attempts to determine how much the media is demeaning disabled people
as a group, It is impossible to know the full degree of damage wreaked by the demeaning and wildly
inaccurate portrayal of people with disabilities, nor is it altogether clear whether much current
progress is

The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins
In the Hunger Games , citizens in thirteen districts are subordinates to the citizens of the capital. These
subordinates were forced to work for the capital and were given no mercy there were public beatings
for crimes and even their kids were killed on a comical television show for the capital citizens. These
ideas, which Suzanne Collins used in her book, can be traced to our own past. Similar to the forced
labor and abuse the Capital imposed on the district members in the Hunger Games , blacks in early
United States were treated very poorly. Ironically, many people living in the United States after the
Revolutionary War were still oppressed, slavery still existed, and discrimination was prevalent.
Slavery did get banned in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The registration and bond were irregularly enforced. Many blacks got away with not registering,
however, a rapid increase of blacks caused an enforcement of the regulation. This enforcement,
resulted in over a thousand free blacks fleeing the state to Canada or other states. Blacks in Ohio were
also limited politically. They could not vote, hold office, or testify in court. In 1860, the regulation on
voting was modified some, yet only mulattoes were given the right to vote. Blacks also could not
enlist in the state militia. Socially, blacks were also at a disadvantage in Ohio. Whites did not want to
associate with blacks in the state. When a plan had been made to settle around 500 ex slaves from
Virginia in Ohio, they threatened armed attack (Horton et Horton 107). Discrimination was a daily
occurrence for blacks, particularly in southern Ohio, near the Ohio River, which acted as a border
between slavery and non slavery land. Free blacks were limited in regard to which jobs they could
have. No free black could work unless they had a valid license and they were generally offered the
worst jobs available. At Cincinnati s riverfront, men gathered each day in search of jobs (Horton and
Horton 110). The blacks were typically, only given the least desirable jobs available (Horton and
Horton 110). These jobs were temporary and were

Ancient Africa and Kemet
Discuss the Significance of Restoring African World History.
Does Africa have any history? Have the people of Africa made any significant contribution to
humanity? With the knowledge that the birthplace of humankind is Africa (Sanz, 2012, p.6), it does
make one wonder how a place that is home to millions of people was not able to establish a civilised
system until the European interactions that started in the 16th century. In this piece, I will explain how
the European imperialistic distortions of Africa s past has led to this general belief that Africa has no
history. I will also be using examples of some of the achievements of ancient Africa, to show the vital
part they have played in the advancement of humanity and civilisation for thousands of years. Finally,
I will be looking at the controversy surrounding the ancestral heritage of ancient Egypt, Kemet, and
how this view has changed over time.
It is important to note that Eurocentrism is not some sinister entity or collective, orchestrating a master
plan to brainwash everyone. There are positives and negatives to having a Eurocentric viewpoint, but
for the sake of this piece I will be focusing on the points of western culture that had an influence on
African history.
I
Firstly, to understand why the worldview of Africa is inaccurate, we first need to understand the terms
Eurocentric and Eurocentrism. These terms are used to describe the focus on European

The Rise of Adolf Hitler Essay examples
The Rise of Adolf Hitler Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 to Alois Schickelgruber and Klara
Hitler in Branau, Austria. Klara showered young Adolf with love and attention while his father beat
and abused him. He moved twice by 1895, first to Passau then to Hafeld. In Hafeld, about 1900, Adolf
s artistic talents emerged and he was accepted into the technical/scientific school of Realschule. Adolf
quit school at age 16, in part because of reoccuring lung infections ,and in part because of poor grades.
In 1903 Alois died, and Adolf took his mothers last name of Hitler. Adolf s mother Klara, died in 1907
from a long series of painful and expensive surgeries for terminal breast cancer. Hitler was permitted

After the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, in 1915, Hitler enlisted in the
Bavarian army because of his new found nationalistic attitudes. In less than two months of training,
Hitler and his squad saw their first action. Hitler narowly escaped death several times in battle, and
was twice awarded the iron cross for bravery. In both October 1916 and October 1918, Hitler was
injured in battle by a gun shot wound and mustard gas. Hitler rose to lance corporal before his last
injury and the war s end. Soon after the war, Hitler was recruited to join a military inteligence unit
assigned to keep tabs on the German Workers Party. Hitler saw this ill managed right wing party as a
means to reach his political goals. He built up the party from the defacto, joke it was to an actual
competitive political party. At the forefront of the party s campaign was the hatred of jews and
communists. Hitlers emotionaly packed speches attracted hundreds more Gemans each time he spoke.
After several articles blaming the Jews ran in several Anti Semetic papers, a great interest arose in
Hitler s party. The party was soon renamed the National Socialist German Workers Party, or the Nazi
s. On November 8, 1923 Hitler led over 2,000 armed brown shirts in a march from a beer hall to the
capital of Bavaria. He was determined to rid the country of the Jews and Communists. For this beer
hall putsch Hitler was sentenced to five years in prison. He only served

throughout the full thirty eight weeks of a pregnancy. The most severe cases of Fetal Alcohol
Syndrome are typically linked to alcohol consumption within the first trimester of pregnancy, more
specifically the first few weeks after conception which can often be before the woman even knows she
is pregnant. Physical deformities are the easiest to detect initially and are the first indication that a
fetus may have Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Abnormal facial features include small head, low nasal
bridge, small eye openings, flat midface, epicanthal folds, thin upper lip, smooth philtrum,
underdeveloped jaw, and short nose. Other physical characteristics include deformed limbs and

Cognitive or developmental symptoms can cause problems as the child grows older and they begin to
integrate into their community and start school. A more serious outcome of prenatal alcohol exposure
is miscarriage, stillbirth, or a baby born prematurely. Premature babies lungs are not yet fully
developed by the time they need to start using them so they may not be able to breathe on their own

The Cold War Era
Cold War The cold war started in 1945 and ended in 1989. It was a war between the United States and
the Soviet Union. This war took place right after WWII and it is called the cold war because there
were no real battles such as with tanks and bombs. The history on the United States in war is that
before the cold war the United States had fought in 24 battles and they won 17 of them. The strength
and the courage that the United States has when they go to war are unbelievable. Their win to loss
ratio on wars is so incredible and the weapons that they got to use weren t as accurate as todays
weapons are now. The United States and the Soviet Union both liked to make bombs. They both did
everything they could to perfect them and to train guys how to use them so they could use them for
military purposes. The cold war got started by the erection of the Berlin Wall which was used to stop
people from escaping the country. When the wall got put up the Americans started flying spy planes
and found out that Soviets had nuclear missiles capable of going off and heading straight for places in
the United States. When the United States found out about the missiles they got a navy Rhea 2
Blockade around Cuba so that the Soviets couldn t send war materials in and out. (Theodorous II)
During the middle of the cold war there was not really any one winning. The Americans and the
Soviet Union were just talking back and forth telling each other to put down their weapons and no

  • 2. The Birth Of Pregnancy After C Sections A majority of mothers prepare for their pregnancies with full intention of a vaginal birth at the end of their third trimester. However, there is a possibility that medical conditions could arise, such as a baby who is positioned incorrectly, preeclampsia, or toxemia. Therefore, a cesarean delivery is the safest way. Most believe that subsequent pregnancies require subsequent C sections. Today, many mothers are opting for VBACs aka vaginal birth after C sections. A C Section, or Cesarean Section, is a major surgery to deliver a baby who may suffer from complications or could be breech. They may also be done in response to the mother and the complications that she may have. It is done by cutting through the wall of the mother s abdomen. It can be life threatening to the mother and the baby. It can raise the risk to the mother and could even complicate future pregnancies. American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist suggest offering the opportunity to pursue a VBAC. An evidence review in 2003 found that overall VBAC success rates were greater than fifty percent (Ebelle 1192 4). This study shows that the success rate of VBACs are improving each year. C Sections are the most common surgery in the U.S. and account for about one third of all U.S. births today. Since the 1990s, the C Section rate has risen sixty percent (Shute: Doctors Urge.... ). The risk of a C Section to a mother include but are not limited to: weakened uterus, bladder injuries, and/or blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It mainly affect young children, mostly under the age of 5. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries which have polio present within the population. Polio virus is most commonly found in area with low standards of sanitation. It spreads through faecal oral transmission or through contaminated food and water. • 4. The Primary Obstacles Of Survey Studies One of the primary obstacles in survey studies is often eliciting responses from surveyed individuals. As we have seen throughout this semester, larger sample sizes are beneficial to statistical analyses, as increasing the sample size can increase the power of a hypothesis test, reduce the sampling variability in a sample, and meet the baseline number of collected observations that are needed to perform specific analyses. This is not to say that larger sample sizes are unequivocally better; a truly random, yet representative sample is more important. If one already has a large, randomly collected and representative sample, increasing the sample size will not improve the analysis. Our study focuses on how survey topic affects the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Survey topics will rotate between control, controversial, and neutral during times of data collection. Methods Who: We surveyed Vassar students sitting alone at tables at the Retreat, and Vassar students as they entered and exited the Deece. We believe that by surveying individuals from the Retreat and the Deece, we achieved a truly random sample with respect to our research question. In other words, we do not think that the choice to eat at the Deece or Retreat directly affects willingness to take a survey. What: The response rate (Yes/No) to short anonymous surveys offered on control, controversial and neutral topics. Where: The Retreat and Deece. These areas are well trafficked by most of the Vassar student population, and we believe that individuals surveyed here are representative of Vassar student body with respect to our research question. When: November 11 and 12 (between 2PM and 4PM) Why: We are interested in determining if survey topic (neutral vs. controversial) affects the number of Vassar students that are willing to participate in that survey. How: (see methodology for additional information) We went to The Retreat on November 11 for one hour and asked students sitting alone at tables if they wished to participate in a short anonymous survey. Survey topics for the control (no topic), neutral (milk preference), and controversial (abortion rights) were rotated per student asked. If students said yes, we gave them a short dummy ... • 5. The Period Of The Renaissance Period Renaissance literally means rebirth. It refers particularly to the rebirth of learning during this period. There was a tremendous revival of classical literature and art, but in the end it was the joining of this with the intellect of the Italian people that lead to the change of the Western World. This period was definitely more than just a rebirth though, it was also an age of new discoveries, both geographic and intellectual. Both of these resulted in changes of tremendous importance for Western civilization. In the economy, for example, there were many innovations that lead to a commercial revolution. There were innovations in banking, accounting, company structure, insurance and commercial law and the invention of commercial capitalism. All of these things worked together to usher in a new world that was very different from that of classical Antiquity but they also laid the foundation for what was to come during the Renaissance period. When looking at the culture during this time there was great influence from the Humanist movement led by Petrarch. There has been some controversy over time as to exactly what the humanist movement was all about. According to Burkhardt the time was a discovery of man, which was in direct contrast to the current secular interests of the time. Modern humanists are defined as someone who has a set of human values, which are normally secular in nature, that are based on a particular conception of many and his potential. ... • 7. Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Forever Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Forever Francis Ford Coppola s magnum opus Apocalypse Now was ladened with problems and difficulties before and after filming. These problems ranged from those having to do with the cast and crew, to those having to do with the circumstances surrounding the filming, to those having to do with the script, to those dealing in direct regard to the very sanity of all of those involved with Apocalypse Now. Despite the myriad of problems that contributed to this acclaimed film s failure, Apocalypse Now still became a success in its own right, and a true classic by any director s standards. He chose to set a feel for his scenes unknown , then have the actors improvise what was going to happen (Behr). Coppola also had these actors make lists of what they felt that their characters should do in different situations (Behr). This caused an effect of the script writing itself, as well as creating a deeper rift between it and the source material. Marlon Brando, who portrayed Kurtz, fed the fire of deep confusion where the script was concerned. Both Heart of Darkness, and Milius original script, as well as Coppola s later interpretation of these, called for the character of Kurtz to be a frail, sickly, and dying man. Brando, however, refused to get into shape as Coppola had requested. Brando was in fact so fat during filming that he was shy about it (Behr). Coppola first suggested that he rewrite the script to accommodate the character to Brando by setting him up as a gluttonous, man consumed by his own evil excesses (Behr). Brando refused to be undignified in his portrayal, so the filming, as well as the writing remained stagnant for days on end. In the end Coppola merely set Brando and Sheen free to improvise for three weeks, leaving him with an incoherent batch of footage that, with the exception of the death lines of The Horror! The Horror! (Conrad) had little to do with the script, or the novel. Time and money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under Armour s founder Kevin Plank came up with a ground breaking idea that changed the way that sports apparel is looked at today. Plank wanted to originate an apparel that would help athletes like him keep cool and dry when they engaged in vigorous activities during high temperature condition, so he created sports apparel using synthetic materials as an alternative to natural fibers such as cotton. The truth is, the current homeless population consists of runaway adolescents, single adult males or females, battered women and over one million homeless families with children typically headed by a female parent. To be homeless means that one s primary residence is a public or private shelter, emergency housing, hotel, motel, living with family or friends or any public space like parks, automobiles, aqueducts or abandoned buildings (Pawlas, 1996). McKinney Homeless Assistance Act, the fifty states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia received funding to investigate the number and the needs of homeless children, to identify obstacles that would prevent them from receiving an education and to develop a plan to overcome these problems (Pawlas, 1996). The McKinney Act also provides emergency food assistance, adult literacy instruction, job training, health services and other programs. Under this act, homeless children are ensured access to the same, free appropriate public education other children in the state receive. Subsequently, in 1990 and 1994, amendments were incorporated into the earlier Act of 1987 to ensure equal access to schools for homeless children. States were told to remove barriers in enrollment, attendance, or success in schools proof of immunization, guardianship and birth certificate requirements (Eddowes, 1994). These provisions made it clear that everything possible should be done to support the educational pursuits of homeless children and youth. Through the 1990 and 1994 amendments to the early Act of 1987, legislation provided formula grants for states to carry out the Educational for Homeless Children and Youth Program (subtitle VII B). The three minor characters that stand out are Elroy, Marry Anne Bell, and Kathleen. The term gender is often used incorrectly as a synonym for our biological sex. Gender is more of a predetermined set of ideas and characteristics used in identifying socially acceptable behaviors and appearances for the sexes. It is not determined by the biological sex of the person. From an early age we begin to develop ideas of what it means to be male or female by observing others. Gender falls on a spectrum from masculine to feminine with many combinations in between. Gender expression and gender identity are also not the same thing. Gender expression is far more relaxed than it has been throughout our history in America, but it still poses a problems for some on a daily basis. Gender expression is one area where women have a social advantage over men. It is far more socially acceptable for a woman to dress masculine than for a man to dress feminine; although neither are without predigests. Using a public restrooms seems like a simple task to the majority of us. This is not the case for people who fall outside the gender norm. Seldom does one have a choice beyond boy s room or girl s room. This can be a very stressful environment if your outward appearance doesn t match your biological sex. Spotlighting those who are not perceived by society as gender normal could lead to depression, anxiety and self loathing. Something as simple as going to the restroom in the mall could lead to a violent encounter. This would be greatly reduced of people would just be more observant. This all because society developed rules everyone must follow in order to be perceived as normal. Today s young people tend to be more aware of the gender spectrum. • 15. A Brief Look at Scientology 1. What is a cult? There is no exact, unified definition of a cult. Some people even believe that a cult isn t a religious group. How I feel I could describe a cult is as follows. I feel a cult is negative for the outsiders and people that distance themselves from a cult after joining one for a while. But I feel that a cult is a very positive place for someone who is loyal and cooperative to the said cult. People change to the absolute extreme when joining/entering the cult. Any family member who is not part of the cult is to be banished from the Scientologist part of the family never to be talked to again. If you re a part of said cult, and you would like to not be part of the cult or any of cult activities, you are banished from any family members in the cult, and any friends in the cult. When you leave a cult, you are blackmailed to the point where some have left wherever they re living at the time. They believe that they have to show how everyone is so happy. In a cult, they basically control every single thing they do, or that is how I feel as an outsider. Cults send members to recruit others, as said before, and the so called recruiters are always so positive when talking about the cult they have joined and the cult they would like you you join. Once you join a cult, you are controlled to everything you do. 2. Is Scientology a cult? Scientology is a cult, or at least, as I would understand it to be in my mind. So, yes. Mona too has to deal with religious stereotypes. You don t look Jewish, is one of the most often heard sayings from the people at the pancake house who find out that Mona is Jewish. The author uses this as an appeal to ethos because he is gaining credibility from his use of diction. One of the appeals that make Riley s argument very effective is his appeal to pathos. He compares his appeal to how a person with a disability is displayed as a poster child in exchange for sympathy and donations, bringing her financial rewards of sponsorships, motivational speaking gigs, and modeling contracts at the expense of being turned into a latter day poster child (642). This effectively supports Riley s claim because the audience will now feel sympathetic for the disabled portrayed in the media as someone needing assistance or a sponsor. Another example is when he attempts to determine how much the media is demeaning disabled people as a group, It is impossible to know the full degree of damage wreaked by the demeaning and wildly inaccurate portrayal of people with disabilities, nor is it altogether clear whether much current progress is ... Does Africa have any history? Have the people of Africa made any significant contribution to humanity? With the knowledge that the birthplace of humankind is Africa (Sanz, 2012, p.6), it does make one wonder how a place that is home to millions of people was not able to establish a civilised system until the European interactions that started in the 16th century. In this piece, I will explain how the European imperialistic distortions of Africa s past has led to this general belief that Africa has no history. I will also be using examples of some of the achievements of ancient Africa, to show the vital part they have played in the advancement of humanity and civilisation for thousands of years. Finally, I will be looking at the controversy surrounding the ancestral heritage of ancient Egypt, Kemet, and how this view has changed over time. It is important to note that Eurocentrism is not some sinister entity or collective, orchestrating a master plan to brainwash everyone. There are positives and negatives to having a Eurocentric viewpoint, but for the sake of this piece I will be focusing on the points of western culture that had an influence on African history.
