Comprehending The San Francisco Earthquake Of 1906
Stay away from negative people. They have a problem for every solution. Albert Einstein. This
quote is telling us that we should be positive, even in rough times. The San Francisco earthquake of
1906 was one of the most significant earthquakes in U.S. history. It happened at almost precisely
5:12 a.m. on April 18, 1906. The earthquakestarted about twenty seconds after 5:12, causing the
first tremor to shake the earth for about 60 seconds. More tremors came afterwards, starting to
break down the city bit by bit. The gas pipes broke, the buildings crumbled, and the streets cracked.
Most of the tremors lasted 45 60 seconds. In the two eyewitness accounts about the earthquake,

This piece of evidence is from the account Horrific Wreck of the City and is showing the POV
that the earthquake brings out the worst in people. Terror marked their faces, and yet their voices
indicated a certain enjoyment that maniacs have when they kill and gloat over their prey.
Hysterical women cried and raved for those they loved when they were standing right next to them.
page. 2 (para. 6)
Conversely, in the eyewitness account Comprehending the Calamity , the point of view is that the
earthquake brings out the best in people. I saw a mother and daughter sitting in the next nook,
into which four doors from flats opened. They were weary, and the girl almost fainting.
Everything they had was burned, and they had had nothing to eat all day, I told them they could
go up in our flat and sleep. I went upstairs and found two old comforters, and made them a bed. I
gave them food, page. 2 (para.

The Crucial Role of Teiresias in Sophocles’ Antigone...
The Crucial Role of Teiresias in Sophocles Antigone
Antigone is a tragic play written by Sophocles in ancient Greece during approximately 441 B.C.
The story is set in a palace in Thebes, a city within Greece. Teiresias is an old blind prophet who
claims to be capable of seeing the future, he has yet to tell a prophesy to be untrue; he has immense
credibility. A theme within the text is: quality not quantity. In this translation of Antigone
, Teiresias
has exactly 76 lines of text. Physically this is very little of a role; one could assume Teiresias is not
an important character at all; however, this is untrue. Teiresias is a character with an extremely
minute role, yet he has immense influence over the resolution of the story, the ... Show more content

Creon now says, Old man ... Make profit, trade in Lydian silver gold, pure gold of India; that s
your chief desire (1034 38). The man who just two minutes ago had the complete respect of the
king is now the prime enemy of Creon; accused of selling out for money. In most stories, any
character with only 0.06% of stage time would not have the power to transform the leader of a
society from polite to mean. Teiresias must be very important if he has the audacity to talk down to
the king and not executed for it. This is evidence that while minor, Teiresias has much respect and
possesses the capability to influence the attitude of extremely powerful characters such as Creon.
Teiresias also has the ability to influence the mental status of Creon and his tragic downfall. After
Teiresias convinces Creon to reluctantly free Antigone, he discovers that his son is now dead as
an indirect result of the past decisions Creon has chosen to make. Anything resulting in the story
subsequent of Teiresias brief stage time is the tragic downfall of our tragic hero, Creon. Actions
such as, Eurydice choosing to take her own life because Haemon voluntarily took his own life, is
an element of Creon s tragic downfall. Creon says, Take me away at once, the frantic man who
killed my son... I cannot rest. My life is warped past

A Day For A New School
Every year I get this feeling. The knots in my stomach are pulled tighter every time I pass
through the narrow rock arch labeled with an aged sign reading, Welcome to the Delta County
Fair Grounds. My eyes peer into the distance, and like every year, the park is full of commotion
and energy. Kids swinging on the swings, teenagers showing off their new school clothes while
sitting on the chipped green tables eating mazzo dogs, and the various types of food stands,
complete the atmosphere of the Delta County Fair. The fair is a place where parents enjoy
themselves by spending quality time with their families; it s an ending to the summer and a
beginning to a new school year. Entering such grounds would usually make a person feel serenity...

When finally reaching the old rustic barn, I began to make my way down the long cement
alleyway, hoping that I would escape all of the chaos and end up at pen number thirty five. This is
where I would find my chubby pink pig lazily sleeping. My feet dragged, as the agonizing thought
ran in my mind that I was once again going to have to go back into the show ring. Every time I
set foot into the open arena something always ends up going wrong, and the huge crowd is
always there to witness the event. The sale will begin shortly, starting off with the hogs, a
scratchy voice echoed through the speakers into the barn. The atmosphere of the pig barn had a
dramatic change from being calm to frantic and hostile. My walking pace quickly sped up as I
darted away from the traffic of filthy pigs with their owners trying to guide them into the wash
racks to be cleaned. The sweat dripped off my forehead as I finally reached my pigpen. All kids
who are planning on selling their hog, please be waiting at your pen for Suzie to come and get
you, played from the speakers. I knew by the neon green three painted on the back of my pig that
I was going to be one of the first kids to set foot in the sales barn. As I tensely waited on the white
metal bar of my pen, the misters above my head gently drizzled small water droplets over my
skin, calming down my nerves. My eyes nervously check out the long row of pens beside me. The

The Aging Process Essay
Humanity has come a long way as we evolve and adapt to the changing environment. Through the
years, we have managed to overcome several limitations, which in the past were nothing more than
dreams. We succeeded in landing on the moon and communicating over long distance, yet there are
still some boundaries we have yet to cross despite our best effort. Agingis an inevitable process of
nature. While we cannot stop the ticking clock in our body, we have made it possible for aging to
be delayed and relieved to a great extent through advance technology and modern governance. High
tech equipments and medications are available for the treatments of more illnesses as our
understanding of medicine improves and governments nowadays are doing... Show more content on

For this group of people, most governments intervene to help to subsidise for treatments they
genuinely need.
Modern governments promise old age security, which ensures that their citizens can fend for
themselves during old age. The approaches, however, may vary from society to society. In some
like The United Kingdom and Canada, government pensions are distributed to the elderly. In
some others such as Singapore, the people are compelled to provide in advance for their old age
dependency. Some societies have laws in place to enforce children to take care of elderly parents.
For example, in Singapore, elderly parents may file in to the court if their children do not provide
for them. However, there are various financial concerns about these methods. In the case of
government pensions, the heavy spending of public fund on the old aged may take a toll on other
areas of the nation s development. Thus a method that works in a society may not work in another
and sometimes, multiple approaches have to be taken.
However, better healthcare and protection from government result in rising age expectancy, which
is a double edged sword as on one hand, people live longer as shown in report (Friedland and
Summer, 2005, Fig 1 2) and on the other hand, the proportion of aging population increases if the
younger generation are not reproducing enough, and this is exactly the trend now in developed
nations. In the

Legalization of Same-Sex Marriages
In our time the traditional viewpoint that we have previously exerted in relationship to the
definition of a family is being challenged more than ever before. Regardless of whether or not
that is through grandparents raising children, foster children and adopted children being raised in
families, single parenting, interracial couples, etc. One of the most talked about issues of our
time is the legality of same sex union/marriages. The standpoint that many take on this issue is
one rooted very deeply in traditions and personal beliefs. There is a constant conflict of opinions.
However, research consistently that relationships between families are tied together based off of
the quality of the relationship and child outcomes compared to the sexual orientation of the
parents. In every individual, there are desires that are present to someday include a child into your
life. Whether that be at a young or old age, you are given the right to bear children into their world
whenever you so wish as long as your circumstances are right. For those that identify as being gay
/lesbian they do not have that choice. However even those who are involved in same sex
relationships ultimately have the desire to have children. Whether it be through adoption, artificial
insemination, surrogate moms, or fostering children they can become parents. For some
individuals, they have children from previous heterosexual relationships as they felt the need to
cover up for their true identity or maybe even

A New Position As Director Of Industrial Operations
In November 1981, I began the new position as Director of Industrial Operations (DIO). There
was much work to do.: The bus availability was u, unacceptable, the Commissary had a terrible
reputation, and there was no security plan; important as the DIO was also the Security, Plans, and
Operations (SPO). I charged the Motor Pool Lieutenant for two plans; improve busavailability and
establish a Community Shuttle Bus route that would take people from the housing areas to the
Commissary. We implemented both plans a week later. We advertised the new shuttle bus and I

My Master Sergeant Deputy was sitting on the couch in my office and noticed a shadow on the
wall just outside the window behind my desk. He called my attention to it, and we looked out
the window. There was a 1 inch diameter rope coming down from the roof above. The workers
had finished so he and I went up on the roof to get a better look. When we got up there, we saw
the rope attached to a large fire extinguisher and tied off on a vent pipe. There was a note that read:
Greetings from the Baader Meinhof Gang. We cleared the entire facility and called the Quick
Response Battalion to activate the quick response plan. The Criminal Investigation Division and the
bomb squad came, but no Battalion response team. They found a fire extinguisher bomb with 13
pounds of TNT in it. That was my 8th near death experience, but more importantly, the bomb s
timing exposed the kindergarten located just below it. I activated the emergency response plan, but

we kept it low profile. Politics dictated no Armored Personnel Carriers should be roaming the

3 Understand the purpose of following procedures when producing documents in a business
environment
3.1 Explain the benefits of agreeing the purpose, content, style, and deadlines for producing
documents
It is important to agree the purpose, content, style and deadline for any document, this is so the
intended recipient will be able to understand the message they have received, and it must be
produced in a acceptable timetable.
Recently at Thermaplate International Ltd I produced a new document, Econoplate Specification
Sheet For Sales Enquiry . This has become necessary, as sales staff were not giving the complete
information regarding our units on a sales enquiry, thus when a sales member now telephones a
Specification Sheet has to be filled out. When I constructed this sheet it needed to contain all the
technical information about the Econoplate but remain simple enough for all our staff to fill out.
3.2 Outline different ways of organising content needed for documents
There are many ways of presenting a document and the appropriate method will depend whom the
document is produced for. Such ways of presentation may include:

Factors Of Vitraya Ramunong And The Tree Of Souls
There are five important factors to Ingold s argument. First, the occupied world consists of things,
each an accumulation of the threads of life, and not of objects which are considered as bounded,
independent and absolute entities. Per Ingold (2010: 2) To create things, per Aristotle, involves a
bringing together of a form (morphe) and matter (hyle) . To illustrate this, let s consider Vitraya
Ramunong or The Tree of Souls (Avatar,2009). Where do the Tree of Souls end and the rest of
Pandora begin? Even though the question sounds quite simple, it is not easily answered. We can
look at the physical aspects first. Is the giant Willow like tree s bark part of the tree? Are the
organisms occupying the bark part of the tree? Are the woodsprites, or seeds, part of the tree? Are
the creatures occupying the tree part of the tree? Are the Na vi clans who occupy the tree part of
the tree? Is the unobtanium deposit underneath the tree part of the tree? Are the algae growing on
and underneath the tree part of the tree? Now let s consider the spiritual aspects of the tree... The
Tree of Souls is not only a connection to Eywa but also works to directly communicate with
Pandora through the atokirina, woodsprites, of the tree. Since the... Show more content on

In Avatar, it is evident that every portion of the environment such as the Na vi, Hometree, The Tree

and happen upon one another, the course of distinct elements is grouped together in varied and
differing sequences, like an interconnected network as described by Hägerstrand (Ingold,

The Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
1. With immigration, the UK comes across to new health issues, such as the Female Genital
Mutilation (FGM).
FGM is still practiced by 28 Countries worldwide. Highlighted by the World Health Organisation
three million girls undergo some form of FGM every year in Africa alone .
Some communities in the UK have a higher risk of FGM than others. Therefore, it is important to
raise awareness about FGM to those risk groups and to professionals, as FGM takes still place
with fatal health consequences to the victims. FGM has deep cultural roots, if a family holds out
against the practice this can cause social consequences such, for example, marriage prospects.

Also there was no statistic about how many people are affected from FGM. Today, FGM is
recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. (Equality now,
2015). Furthermore, in UK the Female Genital Mutilation Act 2003 took place to protect the
individual. Locally, the Heartland Hospital in Birmingham provides now a special sector for FGM
victims, where the individual receives advice and help. Furthermore, The Digbeth based charity
now runs a number of awareness raising workshops with girls in Birmingham schools, but added
that it had particularly struggled to engage with the Yemeni community. (Birmingham Mail 2015)
5. By analysing the source 3 and the official source HSCIC, there is to say that more than 1159
new victims of FGM have been identified only between April and June 2015. (HSCIC report,
2015). This is a huge number, but it was not clarified if the mutilation had just happened or if it
took place in the past. Compared with a statistic from 2013, there were only 41 cases reported by
the police, this would be an increase of 28 % in 2 years. By comparing that number with the statistic
from NSPCC there is to say, that statistic is estimated with 17,000 victims in 2013, but this statistic
includes other countries. The same is with the WHO statistic from 1990 until now. The figures are
estimated and took place in other countries than UK therefore, both statistics are

Emotional Abuse In Australia
Emotional abuse is when a caregiver fails to support a child and supply them with the security and
love they need. Emotional abuse also establishes whether the child s relationship with the caregiver

healthy development. There are currently 16,093 children in Australia s society today that are
emotionally abused by caregivers and adults.

Hip Hop s Negative Influence On Teen Decision-Making
Hip Hop changes lives, but not the way you are told to believe. The media false advertises that
music is the main stimulus for bad decision making and ultimately for violence. Teens are
influenced by many different factors with each factor dictating a percentage of their decision
making. Majority of the time these factors are unavoidable. Factors such as environment, family,
and music are key to the teens decision making. Hip hop is believed to have a huge negative
impact on teens decision making and we are to blame for this false allegation. In the 1980s inner
cities were filled with the notorious crack epidemic and they experienced poverty on a larger scale
than ever before. President Ronald Reagan cut down on social services benefiting people in low
socioeconomic classes, primarily black Americans(Sebhatu). During these hard times those people

hip hop has on the youth has been over exaggerated by the media. Hip hop has been used as a

there is no guarantee they will go out in their neighborhood and commit a violent crime. Society
itself does not give teens enough credit, and ultimately sells them short. For a lot of kids in the

The Role Of Communication In The Aviation Industry
INTRODUCTION
COMMUNICATION: Communication is the process of exchanging of information and common
understanding each other. The elements of the communication process are the sender, encoding the
message, transmitting the message through a medium, receiving the message, decoding the
message, feedback, and noise. To an employer, good communicationskills are essential in his
working life. One of the challenges in the workplace is learning the specific communication styles
of others and how and when to share your ideas or concerns. In all cases the problems are embedded
in the complexity of the communication process itself. In order to transfer information, both the
person sending and receiving the information must be able to formulate, listen, hear and interpret
the message correctly as well as verify the information for completeness, and at any of these stages
things could go wrong.
Communication skills are important to every sector, how we give and receive information and how
we convey our ideas and messages with those around us. Communication comes in many forms:
verbal (sounds, language), oral (listening and hearing), non verbal (facial expressions, body
language), written (emails and text messages), visual (signs, symbols). How communication

Unanimous Verdict vs. Majority Rules Verdicts
The use of a jury is the traditional method within the common law for deciding the facts in any
dispute between parties. The role of a jury is to determine question of fact. The jury is in a powerful
method because ultimately, it determines whether a person is guilty or innocent. In civil cases, the
main function of the juryis to find the facts having regard to the evidence, and assess damages.
The number of jurors used in a civil trial is less than that used in a criminal trial. Another important
difference is that the verdict does not have to be unanimous, meaning that a judge will accept a
majority decision of a civil jury.

land and make unique land forms. The three processes by which glaciation effects and changes
landscape is erosion, transportation and deposition. Did you know that when water freezes,it gets
bigger and expands, then it will break the rock. This type of erosion is called the freeze thaw....

There are two important processes of glacial erosion. The first process is called plucking,
Plucking occurs when cracked and broken rocks are frozen and stuck into glaciers. As a glacier
moves over the landscape, water melts under the glacier and gets into cracks within the
underlying bedrock. The water freezes and melts, weakening the bonds holding pieces of bedrock
in place. These pieces of rock can now be plucked from their rocky base and carried along with the
moving glacier.

Banning Book
Should books be banned? Books are a gateway to a world of imagination, but some schools are
trying to shut those gates off by banning them. Books are some of the best teachers left, it s not up
to a school to decide what a child should or should not read. Banning books can deprive a child of
the opportunity to think. Books should not be banned because of the lessons they can teach, the
fact that a schoolshould not even be able to ban them, and it can deprive a child of the opportunity
to think. Books are some of the best teachers we have they teach us vocabulary social skills and
new ways of thinking (leigh). It s also true that textbooks could teach a child this, but not in the
way they would learn from a story. When a child is really engaged in a story they will learn a lot
more than they think. Books teach us history (leigh). and many books are based on certain time

It is reasonable for a book to be banned if it is just not suitable for children as in its mature
content. But if a book is being banned because of a parent who does not like the book or thinks it

banning it. Parents who don t like specific books can have their kids opt out of an assignment

There is no reason for a parent to try to have a book banned because they do not like the content in

Weight And Activity Analysis
Weight and Activity Level I have been overweight most of my life. As a child I was overweight
but during my early teen years as I grew, I began to lean out. I was able to maintain a healthy
weight throughout middle school but when I began working during high school I had less time
to exercise so I started to, again, gain weight. Since then I have consistently stayed between 200
and 210 pounds which puts me in the obese category with a BMI of 32. Luckily, taking physical
education as a requirement to graduate has forced me to get in some exercise that I otherwise

Self Evaluation
I think that I have done alright in my daily eating in the sense that I know what the best way for
me to get my fruits and vegetables into my diet. I eat plenty of protein and healthy fats which
help with satiety and maintaining a healthy heart. Taking the weight training class has helped
me too because it has encouraged me to work out more. Doing weight bearing exercises is good
for bone health as well as keeping a good muscle mass. Even though I know what I should and
should not eat, I still have a hard time making sure to eat things in moderation. When something
that I eat or drink is especially good I tend to eat more than I should, which contributes to a higher
calorie intake than I should. That, paired with the fact that if I get off of my exercise routine it is
hard to get back on, is keeping me from losing body fat and keeping a healthy

Breaking The Limitations In Music
Music has always been seen as a way of entertainment. Throughout many eras musicians have kept
their ways to their traditions. From instrumentation to the composition itself. Throughout the ages,
music has mostly been a set in stone factor. But since the 20th century things have begun to
change. Musicians are breaking away from the traditions of the past and reaching new areas of
music. Technology is developing to creating new sounds and instruments can change how to be
played and used. That musical styles have been developed and the compositions have altered with
devices that can record and playback music in your own home ... Show more content on

With his developments, the music world has heard a new sound. One of his major creations in
music is in fact a wire recorder. This machine may not seem like much but it has been able record
then playback music in your own home without the instruments themselves. This has truly become
a great breakthrough instead of needing a musician in the household to keep smaller gatherings
entertained. Now they can be entertained with only themselves. As said by brindle: (One of the first
electronic music compositions John Cage s Imaginary Landscape No. 1 (1939) had oscillator
frequencies recorded on two 78 r.p.m. gramophone records, but normally such a system was too
expensive and inflexible to be practicable.) It took a world war to produce what was almost the
right instrument the wire recorder which was later replaced by the tape recorder, so
manipulated, made permanent, or discarded, with incredible ease and at negligible cost. Once
the tape recorder was perfected (about 1950), and its potentialities fully realized, other electronic
sound equipment (either already existing or suitably modified) could be assembled to form the
first electronic music studio (99, Brindle). This development of the Wire recorder has lead to
such great historical developments. From the wire recorder lead to the tape recorder and soon
music was able to be taken anywhere anyone wished it to be. The development of the wire
recorder was originally made by John Cage

What Was The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was a United States policy of opposing European colonialism in the Americas
beginning in 1823. It stated that further efforts by European nations to take control of any
independent state in North or South America would be viewed as the manifestation of an
unfriendly disposition toward the United States. The Doctrine was issued on December 2, 1823 at
a time when nearly all Latin American colonies of Spain and Portugal had achieved or were at the
point of gaining independence from the Portuguese and Spanish Empires. By the end of the 19th
century, Monroe s declaration was seen as a defining moment in the foreign policy of the United
States and one of its longest standing tenets. It would be invoked by many U.S. statesmen and
several U.S. presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and
Ronald Reagan. Roosevelt gave much thought while in office to the consideration of the Monroe
Doctrine of 1823. He added the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine in 1904, asserting that

When a customer calls entrusting UPS with the transport of a package, the distribution process

Assuming the case of the driver to schedule the pick up his route, when he picks up the package it

The Meatpacking Industry In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
A muckraker, an investigative journalist that draws attention to problems, is not particularly what I

changed the American food industry for the better by exposing the meatpacking industry. The
Jungle, my first successful novel out of many failed ones, used Jurgis Rudkus, an immigrant from
Lithuania who got a job in meatpacking, to uncover the unfortunate truth of the industry. It all
started when my Socialist contacts told me to go for a journaling job in Chicago to write about
meatpacking, out of which I came up with the novel. After being published in 1906 and selling

Marduk s Influence On Greek Mythology

2. At first, Marduk was equated with the Sumerian healing and incantation god, Asalluhi or with the
son of Enki/Ea, the god of wisdom. Also his emblem means that he may have traits of a god of
irrigation and vegetation. After the Babylon became the empire, Marduk and his wife, Zarpanitum,
became the most important god and goddess in the empire, and he was equated with the Enlil, the
Sumerian king of the gods. The epic Enuma elis, the most important epic about the Marduk,

Japanese descent during the war, but also how people would have treated you and acted towards

Japanese Americans, but rather on some other minority races such as African Americans and

after World War II. An example would be the murder of Trayvon Martin, which compares to the

dealt with racism. Many people during World War II felt that the claims made against the Japanese
Americans were false and unjust. The feelings of many Japanese Americans have never been

A Clean Well Lighted Place By Ernest Hemingway
How has your understanding of the concept of belonging been shaped by the representation of
relationships and events that you have encountered in the texts you have studied for the Area of
Study: Belonging?
Belonging requires an individual to build a connection with another person or group over time,
these connections are often developed through shared experience and understanding. Peter
Skrzynecki s poems; Feliks Skrzynecki (1975) and Migrant Hostel (1975) offer various perspectives
and representations on this concept. Ernest Hemingway s short story A clean well lighted place

John Darwin s Natural Selection
Darwin wrote a book Natural Selection and it was fun for me to read because his theories on
natural and life evolutions are fascinating to learn. The idea that members of a species complete
with each other for resources and that individuals that are better adapted to their lifestyles have a
better chance of surviving to reproduce revolutionized the field of evolution. His idea was never
approved or accepted for decades and today natural selectionforms the basis for our understanding
of how speeds changed over time. He discussed his theories in natural selection and two types of
selection. So, I will be expanding these selections more, discuss his hypothesis and thesis, and how I
response to these issues. This is Darwin s most famous theory; it states that evolutionary change
comes through the production of variation in each generation and differential survival of
individuals with different combinations of these variable. He has five theories: Evolution, Common
descent, Species multiply, Gradualism, and Natural selection. Darwin considered all these theories
as part of one grand idea; they all occur together. However scientists took a while to see this idea,
they didn t accept at first. Evolution is about the species that come and go throughout the time
while they exist they can change. Like, for example, the apes evolved in over time into caveman
humanlike and then now human races look slightly different from caveman time. Common descent

Approximately people believe that immigrants shouldn t be allowed to the United States of

true. On another hand, it is not totally wrong to think that. An immigration does not mean taking

Difference Between Systole And Divert Flow To The Heart
2.The heart rate is controlled by the PNS, SNS, and endocrine glands.
3.The difference between systole and diastole is the pulse pressure. Systole is the contraction
phase, while diastole is the relaxation phase. Systolic blood pressure is the highest pressure on the
wall of the arteries. And the diastolic blood pressure is the lowest pressure, corresponding to when
the ventricles are filled with blood during diastole.
4.For blood to flow, there must be a difference in pressure at both ends. Blood flows from an area
of high to low pressure. The pressure difference is also created by the resistance in the blood
vessels themselves. Blood flow is compared to the pressure difference and resistance. So, pressure
drives the flow. And vasoconstriction and vasodilation divert flow to the regions that need it the
most.

skeletal muscle tissues receive 15 20%. During exercise, muscles that are contracting receive 80%

6.During exercise these 3 mechanisms are important for returning blood to the heart. It is important
to have valves in the veins to prevent backflow and leakage. A muscle pump and a respiratory pump.

Their Story First mentality transcends into every decision they make. Even if a scene has a
technological advancement that does not advance the Story, the scene is taken out (Richards,
2015). This is what separates them from every other animation company. Essentially the building of
their culture comes down to this question: How do you avoid mistakes and manage the risk that
comes from the failure? The answer is: You don t! According to Ed Catmull, Management s job is
not to prevent risk but to build the capability to recover when failures occur. It must be safe to tell
the truth (Catmull, 2008). Pixar has an environment that not only expects failure but encourages it.
Pixar understands attempting to spark creativity in too much bureaucracy is faulty. They know that
true creativity is born within ambiguity, because that is where faith in intuition becomes the most
relevant. This is the cultural quality about Pixar that is so unique, as their culture is almost that
those of a parent. Parents know that their children will fail, and it is the warmest families that will
love their children and create a culture for them to be okay with failure, still drive for success, and
love them no matter what. That is the belief they teach at Pixar University, as the Dean Randy
Nelson says, failure is that negative space around success (Pernula, 2010). This deep humanistic
understanding of creativity is the key to harnessing the love of the end customers all around the

A Study on Conservative Resurgence
Conservative Resurgence (Order #A2065848) For many years the Republican party and its
conservative base was the central point of blame for the economic woes that had occurred in
America during the Great Depression. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and his liberal Democratic party
were portrayed as the saviors of the United States economy and the only intellectual and political
tradition that remained for America. However, the social excesses, political instability and
economic turmoil that the liberals of the late 1960 s and early 1970 s created, led to a resurgence in
conservative thinking. Americans began to reject the complete dependence on the government, and
the inefficiency and corruption associated with it, in favor of a more independent and politically
conservative way of thinking. As a result, 1980 saw the election of Ronald Reagan, a hard core
conservative Republican as President of the United States. Reagan s victory over then President
Jimmy Carter signaled a distinct resurgence in conservative values and political activity. In the
1950 s, Lionel Trilling, famous literary critic and writer, stated that in the United States at this time
liberalism is not only the dominant but even the sole intellectual tradition. (McPherson, 2008, p.30)
This belief was maintained throughout the 1960 s and 1970 s within the American intellectual and
political community. In addition, the conservative opposition to the civil rights movement,
although for constitutional reasons, had

Child Protective Services And The United States
I interviewed Charles Blake of the Child Protective Services. The Child Protective Services is one
of the state agencies dealing with issues relating to child and family. This is one of the oldest
humanitarian organizations in the California. Established in 919, Child Protective Services is one
organization that has been on the forefront in making positive changes in protecting children,
championing for the interest of the family and ensuring that animals are not neglected or abused.
Today, the agency is also involved in various research aimed at exploring the interactions between
humans and animals and how such interactions can positively impact on the society. As the pioneer

Sexual abuse is a type of maltreatment that exposes a child to sexual behaviors. Emotional abuse,
on the other hand, is a psychological injury that affects the emotional stability of a child. In
analyzing how child abuse and neglect affects children, perhaps it if worth looking into the
definition of child abuse and the social factors attached to it. The main objective of child abuse is
to course harm. But child abuse has a host of other factors attached to it Child abuse is also related
to substance abuse. Parents involved in substance abuse are more likely to abuse their children than
parents who do not abuse substances.
Although the agency pushes for legal charges against adults who involve in child abuse, the agency
usually goes beyond the charges. In ach and very case that is reported, the agency attempts to
understand the underlying factors of the abuse. The agency has realized that parents who abused
alcohol where for times more likely to abuse their children than the parents who did not abuse
alcohol. In such cases, most instances of abuse occurred when the parents were intoxicated. Further,
substance abuse has also been related to recurrence of child neglect and abuse. Studies have shown
that parents who abuse substances are most likely to abuse their children continually that parents
who do not abuse substances. In literature review, parents who are normal and who are not abusing

Doctor Yealland In The Antithesis Of Rivers
Authority through Obedience Authority, in general, is manifested through obedience, if nobody
obeys you, you have no authority. There are two main reasons why people obey said authority.
Either they trust their authority figure and agree with the commands they are given, or they fear the
consequences of disobedience. Most French and British men fought for their country because of
the former reason, they believed they were fighting for a just cause; however, in due time, soldiers
views changed, and they only stayed in light of the consequences of deserting. This juxtaposition
between their fear of death and harm and the impossibility of desertion for survival created a
dynamic that manifested itself through a plethora of mental illnesses... Show more content on

It s unclear if the godlike semblance of authority is manufactured for the sake of Yealland s
treatment plans or if he believes in his authority so much. When Yealland speaks to Rivers about
his patient Callan, he states that The last thing these patients need is a sympathetic audience.
(Barker 228) Yealland s view is that any sympathy or understanding shown towards these
patients that don t believe they can be cured will only validate their position of helplessness and
make them feel like their self pity is justified. Just before this he also says, The patient has to
know when he enters the electrical room that there s no way out except by a full recovery.
(Barker 228) In this way, he forces his patients to believe they can be cured simply because their
torment wouldn t end until they were well again. When Callan tries to escape the electrical room
a second time during his electroshock therapy, Rivers couldn t bear to go on watching. He looked
down at the backs of his clasped hands. (Barker 232) Rivers apparently doesn t agree with Yealland
s methods but makes no actions to stop him during Callan s treatment. He clearly recognizes the
success of these treatments and how challenging Yealland s authority would ruin the power
dynamic Yealland has created, but he can barely even stand to be in the

Symbolism In Strange Fruit, By Abel Meeropol
The poem Strange Fruit by Abel Meeropol, could be described as dark and graphic, as it
embodies Southern violence in America. The poem describes the lynching of black slaves, which
was generally presented to an audience of whites. Billie Holiday, a black female artist, would sing
the poem to a predominantly upper class white club. But strangely, the poem was written by a white
man, Abel Meeropol. Although the last confirmed lynching was in 1968, there are other forms of
racially motivated killings and violence in the United Statestoday such as police brutality and the
race riots formed by white supremacist in Charlottesville. White America is linked and always
will be to the history of black killings. To understand what some of the lynching s could have
looked like, Meeropol made the poem very vivid with many examples of imagery within it as well
as the many dark metaphors he placed throughout the poem.
To understand why Strange Fruit transpired in the first place, it is important to realize the
terrible acts committed during the 1930s. The first slave ship sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in
1619 and from then on, slavery would be etched into the history of America. For 246 years, slaves
worked in numerous fields of crops while being sold, traded, raped, and killed. Even after the
abolishment of slavery, Jim Crow laws started taking affect soon after around the 1880s. Although
Jim Crow laws were separate but equal rights, it was as if they were unfair and unjust rights.

Essay on Resisting Negative Peer Pressure
Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself. Bruce Lee
People! Come on! All of us are cutting history. Who wants to go take that stupid exam? We re
going to BreadSticks instead. Let s go! says the coolest kid in your class. Do you do what you
know is right and go take the history exam? Or do you give in and go with the crowd? As you
grow older, you ll be faced with some challenging decisions. Some don t have a clear right or

serious moral questions should you cut class, should you lie to your parents? Making decisions on

However, sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in
school might try to get you to cut class with them or a kid in the neighborhood might want you
to vandalize with him. A powerful negative peer influence can motivate a teen to make choices
and engage in behavior that his or her values might otherwise reject. Teens who feel isolated or
rejected by their peers or in their family are more likely to engage in risky behaviors in order to fit
in with a group.
But why do kids give in to peer pressure? Some kids give in to peer pressure because they want to
be liked, to fit in, or because they worry that other kids may make fun of them if they don t go
along with the group. The need for acceptance, approval, and belonging is vital during the teen
years. Others may go along because they are curious to try something new that others are doing.
The idea that everyone s doing it may influence some kids to leave their better judgment, or their
common sense, behind.
Anyway, nearly everyone ends up in a sticky peer pressure situation at some point. No matter
how wisely you choose your friends, or how well you think you know them, sooner or later you ll
have to make decisions that are difficult and could be unpopular. But these situations can be
opportunities to figure out what are right for you. There is no magic for standing up to peer
pressure, but it does take courage, YOURS! Here are some

Ten Reasons to Outsource Digital Marketing to a Third Party
10 reasons to outsource your digital marketing to a third party
The decision to outsource a marketing function such as digital marketing can be both strategic and
tactical. In general, many companies, as a principle, outsource any activity that is not core to their
business. At the tactical level, companies often find themselves short of digital marketing resources
to respond to a rapid pace at which it operates across different platforms.
What s right for your company? Following are general guidelines to help you determine whether to
deploy a third party to manage a complete digital marketing function or specific project, or to keep
it in house.
FACTOR #1: YOU LACK A SPECIFIC EXPERTISE OR HUMAN RESOURCES
Effective digital marketing departments require a wide range of expertise. A typical group may
include media strategists, media analysts, auditors, creatives, brand managers, advertising
specialists, copywriters and graphic designers.
Let s face it: in general, most companies do not have enough people allocated to digital marketing
department. So specialised outside help is often required.
FACTOR #2: YOU LACK A SPECIFIC TECHNOLOGY
Companies are notoriously technology deprived on the digital marketing side of things. While this
situation is being somewhat remedied by the increasing use and availability of automation tools, the
digital marketing department is, many times, at the bottom of the IT department s priority list.

It has to be more than trifling. It was confirmed in Chan Fook [1994] that it includes
psychological injury which amounts to a recognised clinical condition and there must be medical
evidence to support it. Mere distress or emotion would not be sufficient. Stan was more than
merely depressed. He was suffering from depression which is a recognised clinical condition and he
would have medical evidence of this so ABH is satisfied.
The word occasioning simply means caused the case of Roberts (1971) denotes that the injury
must be reasonably foreseeable on the facts. This is an objective test and is satisfied. It is
reasonably foreseeable that someone would suffer ABH in the form of psychological injury if they
were sent threatening letters over a period of time.
The ABH must be caused by an assault. Here the assault would be a technical assault. A technical
assault was defined in Fagan [1968] as an act by which the defendant intentionally or recklessly
causes another person to apprehend the application to his body of immediate, unlawful force. The
AR is to cause the victim to apprehend the immediate application of unlawful force. It is the
apprehension that has to be immediate not the force. Fear of imminent force has been held to be
sufficient i.e. fear of force in the near future as in Smith (1983), Ireland and Constanza and this can

Next Stop Is Euler Park
Next stop is Euler Park. announced the bus conductor on a microphone. Being 8 at night, the bus

Cyrano De Bergerac By Edmond Rostand
The play Cyrano de Bergerac, written by Edmond Rostand, was written based on the life of the
real Cyrano de Bergerac. Even so, the setting of the story itself contributed greatly to the character
Cyrano de Bergerac and the development of the story itself. Overall, the play has very specific
stage directions and gives a very detailed description of the setting for every scene. This helps the
characterdevelop as the story continues, while also giving background and mood to that scene in
which it describes. For example, things like the season being autumn in act five, stage directions
stating the green lawn has turned red (Rostand 199) and spots of darker color formed by box
shrubs (Rostand 199) showing how death is coming. It is being represented by the falling leaves
and its change in color. The setting of the play also gives cultural background to the society in that
time period.
Overall, setting contributes greatly to the play. One aspect that the setting contributes greatly to is
the characters within the play. One character that setting contributes greatly to in this play is
Cyrano de Bergerac. Cyrano as a character and also in real life was a Gascon. During this time
period there was also a revolutionary war in France, which contributes greatly to the storyline and
how Cyrano was sent off to war with the Gascon Cadets. It is because he, himself, is a Gascon it
gives him the certain type of character traits that is stereotypically found in Gascon

Researchers use concepts such as Photovoice to analyze and learn about children s perspectives and
view of their community. Photovoice is used often in fields such as Social Work as part of
community based research where participants are given cameras to document their environment for
researchers to analyze. Research by Alaca, Rocca, Maggi (2017) uses this method. The participants
from their study included 32 children between the ages of three and five. In collaboration with the
school, researchers and teachers did a segment to help children develop a concept of community
through engaged learning such have having children collaborative make a cardboard city. After the
concept of community finished, they did another segment on Photovoice and allocated time to let
children practice using disposable cameras. Researchers also interviewed participants to get them to
talk about the photos they took.
Alaca, Rocca, Maggi (2017) found that children often spoke of their family or depicted their family
in the study with mentions of love and sharing. When giving descriptions of photos, children often
mentioned stories of friendship with the people they live around. Many of the photos were taken

Similarities Between Rome And Rome
Carthage s ideas and civilization was one which the Phoenicians had developed in the east. She
became powerful due to trade and commercial supremacy. The trading colonies of northern Africa
and many Greek cities of Sicily were under her control. Carthage was a wealthy merchant country,
trading in metals; gold, silver, tin, and iron, as well as all the products of both the east and the
west. (Morey, 1901) Rome and Carthageand Rome had similar governments. Rome had its consuls
and Carthage had two chief magistrates. Similar to the Roman senate Carthage had a council of
elders, called the hundred . Rome was more democratic, whereas Carthage was more aristocratic.
For the most part Carthage was ruled by a few wealthy aristocrats. Possibly Carthage s greatest
advantage over Rome was the fact that Carthage had one permanent leader of their army. Rome
had civil magistrates who changed over time. That lack of consistent leadership of the army was
a great disadvantage to Rome s ability to wage war and defend itself. (Morey, 1901) Compared
to Rome, Carthage had more wealth, but Rome was more organized. Rome had a powerful army
and Carthage had the more powerful navy. The secret to Rome s success was their loyal citizens.
During war if Rome needed ships, the citizens put up their own money to pay for the necessary
resources. Carthage s biggest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the same time they were building a hundred 5 rowed vessels. Since the Romans were better at

enemy s vessel and cross over and attack the Carthaginians on their decks. (Morey,

Why Is The Fall Of Democracy In Aziile And Brazil
Why is the economy of Brazil extremely unstable when compared to that of Chile, even though the
two countries had very similar transitions to democracy? I will also examine whether there was a
drastic change in the economic policies of the government before and after democratization. Chile
and Brazil faced struggles while shifting from a dictatorship to a democracy. They faced a host of
social and economic issues, including corruption, inflation and internal political dispute, but Chile
emerged as the region s economic success story. Both of these countries are working towards a free

Once wealthy, the population would always choose a democracy over a dictatorship. In fact, the
authors find the survival of a democracy is easy to predict based on the economic development of
the country. As I will further demonstrate, economic development and democracy do not have a
causal relationship. Economic stability is determined by the confidence of the majority population
in the institutions established by the government. The economic and legal framework put in place
should ensures strong property rights and provide credibility for people to invest in long term
projects. Institutions are relevant only if they impose constraints to the behavior of actors. They
should diminish: i) the discretion of the government in the administration and implementation of
policy objectives; and/or ii) the ability of the government to undertake unilateral changes in
policies. These conditions are similar to those stated by Levy and Spiller (1994) as the
mechanisms that provide credibility and effectiveness to a generic regulatory framework. Those
who have the utmost confidence in public institutions prefer flexibility as they believe they will
pursue economic policies that are beneficial for the majority population at any given time.
However, the politician who actually makes these policies prioritises their self preservation and
maximises their own welfare function. The transition to democracy in Brazil occurred in the 1970s.
The regime change promised Brazil political

How Teamwork Changed My Life
It was the fall of 2003, a cool and cloudless California morning. My parents, who dressed me up

who didn t like doing anything but staying at home and minding my own business. When the school

Our school art club, which creates works of art for our local community, often has big projects

  • 2. Comprehending The San Francisco Earthquake Of 1906 Stay away from negative people. They have a problem for every solution. Albert Einstein. This quote is telling us that we should be positive, even in rough times. The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 was one of the most significant earthquakes in U.S. history. It happened at almost precisely 5:12 a.m. on April 18, 1906. The earthquakestarted about twenty seconds after 5:12, causing the first tremor to shake the earth for about 60 seconds. More tremors came afterwards, starting to break down the city bit by bit. The gas pipes broke, the buildings crumbled, and the streets cracked. Most of the tremors lasted 45 60 seconds. In the two eyewitness accounts about the earthquake, Comprehending the Calamity , by Emma Burke, and Horrific... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This piece of evidence is from the account Horrific Wreck of the City and is showing the POV that the earthquake brings out the worst in people. Terror marked their faces, and yet their voices indicated a certain enjoyment that maniacs have when they kill and gloat over their prey. Hysterical women cried and raved for those they loved when they were standing right next to them. page. 2 (para. 6) Conversely, in the eyewitness account Comprehending the Calamity , the point of view is that the earthquake brings out the best in people. I saw a mother and daughter sitting in the next nook, into which four doors from flats opened. They were weary, and the girl almost fainting. Everything they had was burned, and they had had nothing to eat all day, I told them they could go up in our flat and sleep. I went upstairs and found two old comforters, and made them a bed. • 3. The Crucial Role of Teiresias in Sophocles’ Antigone... The Crucial Role of Teiresias in Sophocles Antigone Antigone is a tragic play written by Sophocles in ancient Greece during approximately 441 B.C. The story is set in a palace in Thebes, a city within Greece. Teiresias is an old blind prophet who claims to be capable of seeing the future, he has yet to tell a prophesy to be untrue; he has immense credibility. A theme within the text is: quality not quantity. In this translation of Antigone , Teiresias has exactly 76 lines of text. Physically this is very little of a role; one could assume Teiresias is not an important character at all; however, this is untrue. Teiresias is a character with an extremely minute role, yet he has immense influence over the resolution of the story, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creon now says, Old man ... Make profit, trade in Lydian silver gold, pure gold of India; that s your chief desire (1034 38). The man who just two minutes ago had the complete respect of the king is now the prime enemy of Creon; accused of selling out for money. In most stories, any character with only 0.06% of stage time would not have the power to transform the leader of a society from polite to mean. Teiresias must be very important if he has the audacity to talk down to the king and not executed for it. This is evidence that while minor, Teiresias has much respect and possesses the capability to influence the attitude of extremely powerful characters such as Creon. Teiresias also has the ability to influence the mental status of Creon and his tragic downfall. After Teiresias convinces Creon to reluctantly free Antigone, he discovers that his son is now dead as an indirect result of the past decisions Creon has chosen to make. Anything resulting in the story subsequent of Teiresias brief stage time is the tragic downfall of our tragic hero, Creon. Actions such as, Eurydice choosing to take her own life because Haemon voluntarily took his own life, is an element of Creon s tragic downfall. Creon says, Take me away at once, the frantic man who killed my son... I cannot rest. My life is warped past ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Day For A New School Every year I get this feeling. The knots in my stomach are pulled tighter every time I pass through the narrow rock arch labeled with an aged sign reading, Welcome to the Delta County Fair Grounds. My eyes peer into the distance, and like every year, the park is full of commotion and energy. Kids swinging on the swings, teenagers showing off their new school clothes while sitting on the chipped green tables eating mazzo dogs, and the various types of food stands, complete the atmosphere of the Delta County Fair. The fair is a place where parents enjoy themselves by spending quality time with their families; it s an ending to the summer and a beginning to a new school year. Entering such grounds would usually make a person feel serenity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When finally reaching the old rustic barn, I began to make my way down the long cement alleyway, hoping that I would escape all of the chaos and end up at pen number thirty five. This is where I would find my chubby pink pig lazily sleeping. My feet dragged, as the agonizing thought ran in my mind that I was once again going to have to go back into the show ring. Every time I set foot into the open arena something always ends up going wrong, and the huge crowd is always there to witness the event. The sale will begin shortly, starting off with the hogs, a scratchy voice echoed through the speakers into the barn. The atmosphere of the pig barn had a dramatic change from being calm to frantic and hostile. My walking pace quickly sped up as I darted away from the traffic of filthy pigs with their owners trying to guide them into the wash racks to be cleaned. The sweat dripped off my forehead as I finally reached my pigpen. All kids who are planning on selling their hog, please be waiting at your pen for Suzie to come and get you, played from the speakers. I knew by the neon green three painted on the back of my pig that I was going to be one of the first kids to set foot in the sales barn. As I tensely waited on the white metal bar of my pen, the misters above my head gently drizzled small water droplets over my skin, calming down my nerves. My eyes nervously check out the long row of pens beside me. The majority of the pens were filled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Aging Process Essay Humanity has come a long way as we evolve and adapt to the changing environment. Through the years, we have managed to overcome several limitations, which in the past were nothing more than dreams. We succeeded in landing on the moon and communicating over long distance, yet there are still some boundaries we have yet to cross despite our best effort. Agingis an inevitable process of nature. While we cannot stop the ticking clock in our body, we have made it possible for aging to be delayed and relieved to a great extent through advance technology and modern governance. High tech equipments and medications are available for the treatments of more illnesses as our understanding of medicine improves and governments nowadays are doing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this group of people, most governments intervene to help to subsidise for treatments they genuinely need. Modern governments promise old age security, which ensures that their citizens can fend for themselves during old age. The approaches, however, may vary from society to society. In some like The United Kingdom and Canada, government pensions are distributed to the elderly. In some others such as Singapore, the people are compelled to provide in advance for their old age dependency. Some societies have laws in place to enforce children to take care of elderly parents. For example, in Singapore, elderly parents may file in to the court if their children do not provide for them. However, there are various financial concerns about these methods. In the case of government pensions, the heavy spending of public fund on the old aged may take a toll on other areas of the nation s development. Thus a method that works in a society may not work in another and sometimes, multiple approaches have to be taken. However, better healthcare and protection from government result in rising age expectancy, which is a double edged sword as on one hand, people live longer as shown in report (Friedland and Summer, 2005, Fig 1 2) and on the other hand, the proportion of aging population increases if the younger generation are not reproducing enough, and this is exactly the trend now in developed nations. • 6. Legalization of Same-Sex Marriages In our time the traditional viewpoint that we have previously exerted in relationship to the definition of a family is being challenged more than ever before. Regardless of whether or not that is through grandparents raising children, foster children and adopted children being raised in families, single parenting, interracial couples, etc. One of the most talked about issues of our time is the legality of same sex union/marriages. The standpoint that many take on this issue is one rooted very deeply in traditions and personal beliefs. There is a constant conflict of opinions. However, research consistently that relationships between families are tied together based off of the quality of the relationship and child outcomes compared to the sexual orientation of the parents. In every individual, there are desires that are present to someday include a child into your life. Whether that be at a young or old age, you are given the right to bear children into their world whenever you so wish as long as your circumstances are right. For those that identify as being gay /lesbian they do not have that choice. However even those who are involved in same sex relationships ultimately have the desire to have children. Whether it be through adoption, artificial insemination, surrogate moms, or fostering children they can become parents. For some individuals, they have children from previous heterosexual relationships as they felt the need to cover up for their true identity or maybe even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When we got up there, we saw the rope attached to a large fire extinguisher and tied off on a vent pipe. There was a note that read: Greetings from the Baader Meinhof Gang. We cleared the entire facility and called the Quick Response Battalion to activate the quick response plan. The Criminal Investigation Division and the bomb squad came, but no Battalion response team. They found a fire extinguisher bomb with 13 pounds of TNT in it. That was my 8th near death experience, but more importantly, the bomb s timing exposed the kindergarten located just below it. I activated the emergency response plan, but the responsible battalion didn t respond. I was furious, but the Chief of Staff said it was better that we kept it low profile. • 10. Factors Of Vitraya Ramunong And The Tree Of Souls There are five important factors to Ingold s argument. First, the occupied world consists of things, each an accumulation of the threads of life, and not of objects which are considered as bounded, independent and absolute entities. Per Ingold (2010: 2) To create things, per Aristotle, involves a bringing together of a form (morphe) and matter (hyle) . To illustrate this, let s consider Vitraya Ramunong or The Tree of Souls (Avatar,2009). Where do the Tree of Souls end and the rest of Pandora begin? Even though the question sounds quite simple, it is not easily answered. We can look at the physical aspects first. Is the giant Willow like tree s bark part of the tree? Are the organisms occupying the bark part of the tree? Are the woodsprites, or seeds, part of the tree? Are the creatures occupying the tree part of the tree? Are the Na vi clans who occupy the tree part of the tree? Is the unobtanium deposit underneath the tree part of the tree? Are the algae growing on and underneath the tree part of the tree? Now let s consider the spiritual aspects of the tree... The Tree of Souls is not only a connection to Eywa but also works to directly communicate with Pandora through the atokirina, woodsprites, of the tree. Since the... FGM is still practiced by 28 Countries worldwide. Highlighted by the World Health Organisation three million girls undergo some form of FGM every year in Africa alone . Some communities in the UK have a higher risk of FGM than others. Therefore, it is important to raise awareness about FGM to those risk groups and to professionals, as FGM takes still place with fatal health consequences to the victims. FGM has deep cultural roots, if a family holds out against the practice this can cause social consequences such, for example, marriage prospects. Also there was no statistic about how many people are affected from FGM. Today, FGM is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. (Equality now, 2015). Furthermore, in UK the Female Genital Mutilation Act 2003 took place to protect the individual. Locally, the Heartland Hospital in Birmingham provides now a special sector for FGM victims, where the individual receives advice and help. Furthermore, The Digbeth based charity now runs a number of awareness raising workshops with girls in Birmingham schools, but added that it had particularly struggled to engage with the Yemeni community. (Birmingham Mail 2015) 5. By analysing the source 3 and the official source HSCIC, there is to say that more than 1159 new victims of FGM have been identified only between April and June 2015. (HSCIC report, 2015). This is a huge number, but it was not clarified if the mutilation had just happened or if it took place in the past. Compared with a statistic from 2013, there were only 41 cases reported by the police, this would be an increase of 28 % in 2 years. By comparing that number with the statistic from NSPCC there is to say, that statistic is estimated with 17,000 victims in 2013, but this statistic includes other countries. • 40. John Darwin s Natural Selection Darwin wrote a book Natural Selection and it was fun for me to read because his theories on natural and life evolutions are fascinating to learn. The idea that members of a species complete with each other for resources and that individuals that are better adapted to their lifestyles have a better chance of surviving to reproduce revolutionized the field of evolution. His idea was never approved or accepted for decades and today natural selectionforms the basis for our understanding of how speeds changed over time. He discussed his theories in natural selection and two types of selection. So, I will be expanding these selections more, discuss his hypothesis and thesis, and how I response to these issues. This is Darwin s most famous theory; it states that evolutionary change comes through the production of variation in each generation and differential survival of individuals with different combinations of these variable. He has five theories: Evolution, Common descent, Species multiply, Gradualism, and Natural selection. Darwin considered all these theories as part of one grand idea; they all occur together. However scientists took a while to see this idea, they didn t accept at first. Evolution is about the species that come and go throughout the time while they exist they can change. Systole is the contraction phase, while diastole is the relaxation phase. Systolic blood pressure is the highest pressure on the wall of the arteries. And the diastolic blood pressure is the lowest pressure, corresponding to when the ventricles are filled with blood during diastole. 4.For blood to flow, there must be a difference in pressure at both ends. Blood flows from an area of high to low pressure. The pressure difference is also created by the resistance in the blood vessels themselves. • 44. A Study on Conservative Resurgence Conservative Resurgence (Order #A2065848) For many years the Republican party and its conservative base was the central point of blame for the economic woes that had occurred in America during the Great Depression. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and his liberal Democratic party were portrayed as the saviors of the United States economy and the only intellectual and political tradition that remained for America. However, the social excesses, political instability and economic turmoil that the liberals of the late 1960 s and early 1970 s created, led to a resurgence in conservative thinking. Americans began to reject the complete dependence on the government, and the inefficiency and corruption associated with it, in favor of a more independent and politically conservative way of thinking. As a result, 1980 saw the election of Ronald Reagan, a hard core conservative Republican as President of the United States. Reagan s victory over then President Jimmy Carter signaled a distinct resurgence in conservative values and political activity. In the 1950 s, Lionel Trilling, famous literary critic and writer, stated that in the United States at this time liberalism is not only the dominant but even the sole intellectual tradition. There are two main reasons why people obey said authority. Either they trust their authority figure and agree with the commands they are given, or they fear the consequences of disobedience. Most French and British men fought for their country because of the former reason, they believed they were fighting for a just cause; however, in due time, soldiers views changed, and they only stayed in light of the consequences of deserting. The poem describes the lynching of black slaves, which was generally presented to an audience of whites. Billie Holiday, a black female artist, would sing the poem to a predominantly upper class white club. But strangely, the poem was written by a white man, Abel Meeropol. Although the last confirmed lynching was in 1968, there are other forms of racially motivated killings and violence in the United Statestoday such as police brutality and the race riots formed by white supremacist in Charlottesville. White America is linked and always will be to the history of black killings. To understand what some of the lynching s could have looked like, Meeropol made the poem very vivid with many examples of imagery within it as well as the many dark metaphors he placed throughout the poem. To understand why Strange Fruit transpired in the first place, it is important to realize the terrible acts committed during the 1930s. The first slave ship sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in 1619 and from then on, slavery would be etched into the history of America. For 246 years, slaves worked in numerous fields of crops while being sold, traded, raped, and killed. Ten Reasons to Outsource Digital Marketing to a Third Party 10 reasons to outsource your digital marketing to a third party The decision to outsource a marketing function such as digital marketing can be both strategic and tactical. In general, many companies, as a principle, outsource any activity that is not core to their business. At the tactical level, companies often find themselves short of digital marketing resources to respond to a rapid pace at which it operates across different platforms. What s right for your company? Carthage was a wealthy merchant country, trading in metals; gold, silver, tin, and iron, as well as all the products of both the east and the west. (Morey, 1901) Rome and Carthageand Rome had similar governments. Rome had its consuls and Carthage had two chief magistrates. Similar to the Roman senate Carthage had a council of elders, called the hundred . Rome was more democratic, whereas Carthage was more aristocratic. For the most part Carthage was ruled by a few wealthy aristocrats. Possibly Carthage s greatest advantage over Rome was the fact that Carthage had one permanent leader of their army. Rome had civil magistrates who changed over time. That lack of consistent leadership of the army was a great disadvantage to Rome s ability to wage war and defend itself. (Morey, 1901) Compared to Rome, Carthage had more wealth, but Rome was more organized. Rome had a powerful army and Carthage had the more powerful navy. The secret to Rome s success was their loyal citizens. During war if Rome needed ships, the citizens put up their own money to pay for the necessary resources. Carthage s biggest... The quinquiremes had 5 rows of oars and the Roman triremes had only three. Roman soldiers trained to row the quinquiremes at the same time they were building a hundred 5 rowed vessels. Since the Romans were better at hand to hand combat, the Romans put drawbridges on their ships so they could pull alongside the enemy s vessel and cross over and attack the Carthaginians on their decks. • 56. Why Is The Fall Of Democracy In Aziile And Brazil Why is the economy of Brazil extremely unstable when compared to that of Chile, even though the two countries had very similar transitions to democracy? I will also examine whether there was a drastic change in the economic policies of the government before and after democratization. Chile and Brazil faced struggles while shifting from a dictatorship to a democracy. They faced a host of social and economic issues, including corruption, inflation and internal political dispute, but Chile emerged as the region s economic success story. Both of these countries are working towards a free market economy, but there is always the question of whether democracy will thrive and ensure political stability in the region while trying to adopt a new... In fact, the authors find the survival of a democracy is easy to predict based on the economic development of the country. As I will further demonstrate, economic development and democracy do not have a causal relationship. Economic stability is determined by the confidence of the majority population in the institutions established by the government. The economic and legal framework put in place should ensures strong property rights and provide credibility for people to invest in long term projects. Institutions are relevant only if they impose constraints to the behavior of actors. They should diminish: i) the discretion of the government in the administration and implementation of policy objectives; and/or ii) the ability of the government to undertake unilateral changes in policies. These conditions are similar to those stated by Levy and Spiller (1994) as the mechanisms that provide credibility and effectiveness to a generic regulatory framework. Those who have the utmost confidence in public institutions prefer flexibility as they believe they will pursue economic policies that are beneficial for the majority population at any given time. However, the politician who actually makes these policies prioritises their self preservation and maximises their own welfare function. The transition to democracy in Brazil occurred in the 1970s. The regime change promised Brazil political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. How Teamwork Changed My Life It was the fall of 2003, a cool and cloudless California morning. My parents, who dressed me up with a polo shirt and khakis, waited patiently for the school bus as I looked fearfully at what was going to happen. I didn t want to leave my house, nor did I want to go to school. I was a shy boy, who didn t like doing anything but staying at home and minding my own business. When the school bus finally came, I climbed on to the yellow bus and looked outside fearfully as my parents waved goodbye. I was too scared for the first day of school, which helped me shape the person I am today. Throughout my life, I ve been to different places, from Oklahoma to a whole different country in a different continent miles away. During that time, I was able to shape myself with the cultural experiences I got through being in a multicultural environment,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our school art club, which creates works of art for our local community, often has big projects that requires the effort of everybody who is working together. As a senior member of art club, I often help make decisions on the direction that the project is going to go towards. Often, the decision making requires not just the overall completion of the project, but the opinions of the people who are working on the project. When we worked on a mural for a local elementary school, I had to help organize what we wanted to do for our mural. Many of us had good ideas, but we couldn t possibly implement them all in a small area; therefore, we had to decide what was good and what must be scrapped. It took communication to decide on what must be fixed, and the mural was completed through the efforts and sacrifice of all the members of the club. By organizing projects that art club was involved in, I realized that being able to work together while talking and organizing is important in finishing big works of art for our ...
