I have a friend by the name of Karen that while living in the United States lives in a completely
different culture than us. Karen is deaf. When we first met we mainly communicated by text or the
online community that brought us together. While I knew a little sign language it was not enough
to keep a steady conversation. Karen helped me learn some signs, I took classes to teach me more
about deaf cultureand conversational signs. I went from being able to carry on a conversation with

Dark Angel by David Klass is a story of a 12 year old boy named whose brother goes to state
penitentiary for murder and was sentenced to life. Jeff gets bullied throughout his school year
forcing him and his parents to move to a different state. Jeff and his family s life was going great
until five years later when his brother got out earlier than expected. He started to become
paranoid about everything he always thought the cop were going to pull him out of class and
question him about his brother. His girlfriend s father made them stop talking once he found out
about his brother. Once Troy Jeff s older brother arrived he tried to be nice to Jeff but he wasn t
having it, he just wanted him gone and out of his life. After awhile of Troy attended one of Jeffs
soccer games and ended up getting in a fight with one of Jeffs teammates. After the game the boy
Troy fought disappeared and the first person everyone went for was Troy which was bad for Jeff
because he started to get bullied again. Policecontinued to investigate a found the car that
belonged to the missing boy. Jeff suspected that it was Troy the whole time but police couldn t
find evidence and Jeff had no proof.so he didnt tell anyone his suspensions about troy until the

meant a catastrophic event. Jonas got his first look at the North Tower.
Smoke and flames were spewing out of gaping holes bored by American Airlines Boeing 767 that
crashed between the 93 and 99 floors on the North face of the 110 story building. Each of the North

They had flashlights, radios, air packs, coils of rope, rescue webbing, a six foot hook, and a
Halligan, which is like a crowbar with special edges. Jonas s men each were carrying anywhere
from 90 to 110 pounds of gear. The higher that they climbed, the stronger that they could smell
the jet fuel and smoke also, the building began cracking, cracking, and moaning. They were
shocked by how calm most of the civilians where many of them patted the men on the back and

It s awful to see. Jonas thought, but this really is New York at its best. Everybody is doing the

firefighter needed help because he had chest pains from the climb. When Jonas reached the 27th

Dr. Seuss, an amazing writer who showed the world of satire and literature to all ages. Books
such as The Lorax, The Foot book and The Butter Battle Book are perfect examples of that.
Seuss, a man known for his creative vision and use of words, made these books a satire gold
mine! We already know about his rhymes but Seuss was also extremely good at using
exaggeration. Don t forget his amazing use of onomatopoeias or his profound use of repetition. I
could go on forever but the fact is Dr Seuss and his creative mind has an amazing talent for using
satire to make his books come to life. To make his books stick around for so long and to open the
minds of his reader to the world of satire and the amazing world of literature.
This creative talent is most clearly shown by the uses of exaggeration all throughout the book
The Butter Battle. Whether it s the fact that these two races are fighting over what side they
butter their bread. Or the fact that each side believes one is worse because of that fact. No
matter where you look in this book, there will always be a use of exaggeration! One being, So
you cant trust a Zook who spreads his bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has
kinks in his soul! (Seuss). This quote is a perfect example of exaggeration, it s very obvious that
no one would have kinks in their soul because of how they butter their bread. Or that every Zook
has to be watched! Another great example would be the line, I ll blow you up he yelled, into
pork and wee beans (Seuss). Now we all know that you cant blow someone up into pork and wee
beans! It s just physically impossible but that doesn t stop Dr. Seuss from using it and using it
effectively. To sum this all up, it s very easy to see that exaggeration is just one of the few pieces
of satire Dr. Seuss uses. But it is used extremely effective and makes the reader more interested and
gives them a few laughs in the process!
In addition to exaggeration, Seuss has an incredible knack for using repetition that makes the
reader more engaged. Makes the reader want to see what that next funky word will be, what goofy
sentence will follow. This simple piece of satire has immense power! With just a few

mile excursion that the Glen Canyon had to offer. Not many people know how to sail a raft
down a river for a week. Not many people know how to interact with nature and the animals that

Well, excuse the people who were born paralyzed from the waist down, and would like to
experience the forces nature in its natural state of beauty and grace. He seems to generalize the
typical population of people who visit Lake Powell on an unscientific basis, upper middle class
American slobs. So does that mean that a lower class family doesn t have the money to do such
recreational activity? And that we are slobs because we like to view nature in its own
environment? One last point in which should be heard is that, Edward Abbey states that now
that the river is closed up people cannot get a raft, spend about forty dollars, give up 7 10 days,
and rely only on the goodness of fresh catfish just to float down a river. In today s society people
don t have time. We would rather spend the hundreds of dollars to get a nice speedboat, buy real
food, and only take maybe the weekend to enjoy the great outdoors. We enjoy the freshness of a
shower everyday, going to the bathroom with flushable device, eating food with the right bit of
garlic taste, in other words the comfort of home. Even if they did take down the dam and offer

Many boy soldiers fought in world war one, which impacted their innocence as they sacrificed
their early adulthood. Countless soldiers were still in school when they were recruited I am
young, I am twenty years of age; but I know nothing of life except despair, death, fear and the

The Individual in Judaism and Hinduism
Through the Bhagavad Gita and the Book of Job we see the similar ways that different religions
affirm that the individual can t have the same level of knowledge as the divine. We also,
however, see that while Hinduism offers an explanation for this knowledge disparity, and offers
a path of empowerment that allows the individual to strive for the knowledge level of the divine,
Judaism simply deems that we are insignificant beings when compared to God, and that we can t
ever achieve nearly the same amount of knowledge as God. The Book of Job tells those who
consider the bible to be a holy text, namely Jewish and Christian people, the story of Job. His
story tells us that we, as individual human beings, are lesser beings than God and can t know as
much as God. At the end of the story, after hearing God mention the greatness of his creations,
Job finally breaks and admits that he was wrong to question God, as Job, an individual human
being, has a limited amount of knowledge compared to God. While God is pleased with this
response from the previously dubious Job, he is not happy with Zophar, Eliphaz, and Bildad for
claiming to know why God acted in the manner in which he did while they were consoling Job.
God relents however, and forgives them after Job prays for them. God is so delighted with Job for
withstanding all of the punishments Satan had put forth upon him that he rewarded Job with two

Comparing War Poems Died of Wounds and Suicide in the Trenches are two poems, which I will
be comparing the similarities and differences, which were written by the same author. Both these
poems were written by a person called Siegfried Sasson, who wrote most of his poems during the
World War One, which outlined how bad the war was to those at home after suffering from being
Shell Shocked. I will be comparing the language it uses, ideas it contains and the way it is

On the forth line of Died of Wounds the author says He did the business well where business is a
metaphor, for it is the earnest of the wounded solider to draw attention to himself. Also on the
last line of Died of Wounds the author describes dead soldier as a slight wound where he is
comparing a dead solider to a small wound, and therefore it does not matter, and he is also
comparing the country to a solider, which is hardly notices a slight wound. There is also some
similarity in Suicide in the Trenches where Siegfried Sasson describes the trenches as if it is
like hell meaning that war was like a place where young people went and got themselves killed.
On the first line of Died of Wounds, Siegfried Sasson wrote Wet White , which is alliteration,
which is a type of sound device. He also does this on the third line, ninth line and the last line. This
makes the poem sound better. There is also some similarity in Suicide in the Trenches, where the
author also uses this device to make the poem catchier but instead uses different letters to make it
sound different and better. There is also another similarity in both poems where there are no
assonances, which is the same as alliteration but it does not occur in consonants
