The Movie Les Miserables ( 2012, United Kingdom )
This project focuses on the movie Les Misérables (2012, United Kingdom). The film is an epic
romantic musical directed by Tom Hooper. As a film, Les Misérables is based on a musical by Claude
Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil that goes by the same name (Les Misérables) and is also based
upon Victor Hugo s French novel Les Misérables, 1862 (Shoard n.p). This analysis looks at various
elements of the movie ranging from the themes used in the film, its genre, artistic movement, the
director s style and the film s representation on its country s culture.
The movie tells the story of an ex convict by the name of Jean Valjean. Mr. Valjean resorts to change
his life after getting inspiration from a kind hearted pastor. He ends up being a factory owner as well
as a mayor in a one of the town s in France. Even though he is focused on making positive strides, his
past is something he is wary of. Valjean is wary of being recaptured by Monsieur Javert, a ruthless
police inspector with the reputation of hunting down criminals and a strong belief that law breakers
are not capable of change. One of Jean Valjean s workers, a woman by the name of Fantine ends up as
a prostitute after being cast out of the factory. She ends up dying and Valjean ends up feeling
responsible for her demise. To make up for it, he adopts Fantine s daughter Cosette offering to take
care of her. When Cosette matures, they end up being embroiled in the political unrest that took place
during the 1832 Paris

Sumer People Research Paper
Sumerians... an ancient civilisation that most of you have probably never heard of. They were a nation
of people settled in Southern Mesopotamia which, is modern day Iraq and Kuwait. Not only are these
people one of the oldest civilisations in human history, with their existence dating back to 5000 BCE,
but they re influence on our lives today, 7000 years later, is incredible. The Sumer people were the
first to create a written language in 3500 3000 BCE, 2000 years before the ancient Chinese. They were
the first to enforce the idea of a set time for a work day, there is evidence to suggest they invented the
wheel, and are even responsible for time itself. The Sumer people divided day and night into 12 hours
each consisting of 60 minutes with each minute consisting of 60 seconds, a method of time that is still
used to this day. Apart from these incredible advancements in early human history, the Sumer people
are also recognised for being possibly the second oldest civilisation to bury their dead. These burial
customs and beliefs of the Sumer people have been studied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Once the body was prepared, a spiritual ceremony where death rites are made by priests over a dead

Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth
Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational
forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and
the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this
bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly smaller
than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the earth. In
addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and the earth.
When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tide occurs. But why are these flows relevant to
renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for use as a power
source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In addition, there is a major
advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very predictable. For example, there are not
any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be optimal but there are charts of the tides.
Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your community could work towards being energy
independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there could be an opportunity to use any excess power
generated as an income source. There are three ways to harness the power of the tides; tidal barrages,
tidal lagoons, and tidal streams. The first, barrages, make use of the

Stormbreaker Theme
The overall theme or message of Stormbreaker is teenagers should not be underestimated in what they
can accomplish when faced with adversity. Through perseverance a person of any age can succeed and
make a difference as a result of that perseverance. Alex Rider is not expected to succeed at his mission
at Sayle Enterprises even though Alan Blunt and Mrs. Jones send him to training and he has no other
choice but to comply with their demands. For example, The boy s not ready yet. He ll make mistakes.
It won t take them long to find out who he is. Mrs. Jones sighed. I don t think Alex has got much

Explanation Of The Song American Pie By Don Mclean
In the song American Pie, by Don McLean, produced in 1971, McLean uses this song to
commemorate the death of singer Buddy Holly but he is able to also describe what he thinks is one of
the most influential periods of American history; 1959 1970. The speaker in the song is Don because
he s telling what has happened since the death of Buddy holly and how much has influenced a change
in society. In the song bye bye mrs American pie there to represent the innocence of American that
Holly took when he died. I chose this song because it was one of my father s favorite songs. And since
the main idea of the song is about death, after my father died I felt a connection with the song.
American pie relates to an old saying as American as apple pie .

Essay about Technology in Forster s The Machine Stops
The Internet provides accuracy, productivity, and possibilities that would be devastating if suddenly
missing. Because of man s resiliency, I don t think that we would experience Armageddon if the
Internet stopped. I do believe our world would become larger for a while. The miles shortened by
email would lengthen due to postage delivery. The nanosecond returns to a minute, and memory
would be placed back in photo albums and diaries. All changes would be temporary until necessity,
and personal desire would lead the way to new technology. In the end, one truth stands; with
technology comes great responsibility.

Did a loss such as this stir the visions of the cinematophote? To hold a photo does not satisfy the need
to communicate, to look into a glowing blue screen and see the face, and hear the voice of a friend
eases the pain of distance. Finally, it may have been the need for Forster to replace a confining rule
book of a traditional religion with a new rule book, The Book of the Machine. The new book still held
restrictions, including what is acceptable for public touching, People never touched one another. The
custom had become obsolete, owing to the Machine. (Forster 5) Restrictions are tolerable because the
personal comfort knowledge of Book of the Machine provides. The book became an object of worship
for Vashti as we see when we read, Thrice she kissed it, thrice inclined her head, thrice she felt the
delirium of acquiescence. (Forster 3)
Desire birthed passion for a utopian society. Desire to no longer be a beast of burden; spending more
time pursuing comforts, less time punching a clock. If we continue to become ever more connected
what will our professional lives be like in another twenty five years? Keep in mind that research from
the Pew Internet American Life Project discovered that 49% say ICT s make it harder for them to
disconnect from their work when they are at home and on weekends. (Madden, Mary; Jones, Sydney

Movie Analysis of Jaws .
Released in 1975, Jaws was probably one of the best adventure, action, and suspense films of that era.
Directed by Steven Spielberg with the following staring main cast members Roy Scheider as Martin
Bordy (chief police officer), Richard Dreyfuss as Matt Hooper (marine biologist), Robert Shaw as
Quint (local fisherman), Murray Hamilton as Larry Vaughan (town mayor). Jaws the movie, is not like
any other any other fish story. The film is about a gigantic 26 foot shark that has an appetite for
people; how horrifying is that? The unusual story takes place on the seasides of Amity Island. When
Chief Brody uncovers the partial body of a teenage girl with shark like bites, Chief Brody contacts a
shark specialist to verify if the bite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His acts of heroism are acted out several times throughout the film. Of course, he also had his boat
captain and a marine biologist along for the wild ride. This plays out to be a team like environment, in
which they contributed their different individual strengths towards the common goal; hunting down
the massive man eating shark.
This film also used countless props; however, there is truly only one that needs to be discussed, and
goes by the name of Jaws. This massive great white shark was a 26 foot mechanical beast. This
enormous steel gutted fish was connected to a crane arm which allowed the shark to tread just
underneath the surface of the water at a rapid rate. This gives the realistic feel of the amount of power
this shark has; being able to swim at such rates of speed. This adds to the fright element of movie
because we all know that big animals can be intimidating. Animals that are big and fast are even
scarier. Animals that are big, fast, and hungry, are a force to be reckoned with.
The film, Jaws, uses a variety of different photographic techniques. Panning was used quite often in
this movie to remind the viewer that they were a long distance from the shoreline. Additionally, plenty
of filming was done underwater. This allowed the audience to get a realistic feel for the surrounding
environment. The brilliant underwater imagery resulted with help from the naturally dark and chilling
emptiness of the foreign ocean world. A notable climatic shot is

The Slate Belt
The bioregion of the Slate Belt is in the northeastern most corner of Northampton County
Pennsylvania. This bioregion is unique to others in the region due to the Martinsville Shale deposits.
These deposits contain high quality slate that when quarried and sold on the market, lead the industry
in the United State for over 100 years. The industry in the south valley consists of cement plants due
to rich limestone deposits and abandoned iron mines in the west for the now defunct Bethlehem Steel.
To the north of the Slate Belt lie anthracite coalmines from other geological deposits. To the east lie
small quasi fertile farmlands and great swaths of deciduous forest. Further, the Slate Belt bioregion is
easily defined by three major geomorphs: the Kittatinny Ridge/Blue Mountain to the north, the
Delaware River to the east and south and the Bushkill Creek to the west. These landforms easily
demark the bioregion. The people of Welsh and Italian ancestry of the local population that quarries
the slate has created a culture that is filled with the pride. All of these unique attributes contribute to
formation of a bioregion that can with effort and proper management become independent and self
sustaining.
The Slate Belt bioregion is nested within the Great Valley Section of the Valley and Ridge Province
that was formed by thrust and fault folding during the Late Ordovician period through and Late
Paleozoic era.(Bailey,1992; Geyer, 1979;Van Diver, 1990). During this time Taconian

1984 And Brave New World Essay
Brave New World and 1984
As I read Brave New World and 1984, I noticed how some of Aldous Huxley and
George Orwell s prophecies are becoming true. As science and technology progresses,
we have the opportunity to alter few aspects of our lives, even though our freedom and
privacy may be in jeopardy.
In Brave New World, science allows babies to be artificially produced in a
laboratory. Nowadays, parents who cannot conceive children are also able to artificially
produce their children with the help of science and the genes of both parents. As science
advances, the parents may even be able to reform the genes of their baby in order to have

Even though it is not as
extreme as in the Brave New World, I feel that we are also being conditioned. It is more
obvious now. When we watch commercials on television, we are conditioned to buy the
products and believe that by buying that particular brand of clothing we will look better
and be well liked. The ads are harmless as long as we do not sacrifice the important idea
that we genuinely want the product and that we are still making the decision to buy it.
A similarity between Oceania, in 1984, and our country today is that the caste
system still exists. Most of the power belongs to the rich, or the Inner Party. The middle
class, or the Outer Party, are trying to become part of the higher class. While the poor, or
the Proles, are working hard in order to make ends meet and just want to be left alone.
Like Orwell, I feel that the caste system will always exist.
Also, the citizens of Oceania are constantly being monitored by the government.
We are also being monitored. There are cameras everywhere, even though most of the
time we are not aware of it. When we go to the store, the surveillance cameras are there
to make sure we do not steal anything. When we go to the bank, cameras are watching us
make our transactions. In some cities, cameras may also be watching us as we cross the
street or get into our car. What is next? Cameras in our homes?

Compare and Contrast of the Army and the Marines Essay...
Compare and Contrast of the Army and the Marine Corps
Gary W. McCoy

November 1, 2010
Compare and Contrast of the Army and the Marine Corps The United States Armed Forces are the
military forces of the United States. They consist of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and the
Coast Guard. Although the United States Army and Marine Corps are both primarily ground based
forces and offer many similar career fields, the two branches are different in some very crucial areas.
To accurately compare and contrast the services, it is important to look at their overall missions and
career fields. The Army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775 to
meet the demands of the American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the Army and the Marine Corps offers similar career opportunities in areas such as infantry,
armor, aviation, administration. However, due to the Marine Corps attachment with the Navy, it does
not directly employ health care professionals such as nurses, doctors, dentists or psychologists like the
Army. Instead, it receives these services from commissioned Navy medical officers. The Marines are a
highly mobile amphibious attack force. Marines are trained to attack from the water and establish a
beach head, an area of control on foreign soil. After the Marines take territory, other armed forces such
as the US Army move in to maintain control, while the Marines move on. Marines are mobile,
lightweight, and very rapid. I would compare the Marines to the head of the spear, wedging in to get a
foothold and racing ahead once the land has been secured. In addition to acting as a lightweight attack
force from the ocean, Marines are also perfectly capable of taking territory on land. Marines are
trained for rapid deployment, and are often the first US military personnel on site. Marines also guard
American embassies overseas, providing embassy security and safety. In volatile areas, being a
Marine embassy guard is a very risky job. The US Army, on the other hand, is the primary ground
based military forces. As such, the US Army captures and holds

How Does Plath Use Metaphors In Munich Mannequins
Plath s use of metaphor is effective in highlighting her depressive state, Plath often used metaphors
frequently and used them as a contrast to her own reality. Through Plath s poetry, we understand that
she was conflicted about being a woman and often viewed the world with a very childlike mindset.
Plath s poem The Munich Mannequins , is a poem which floats between two images of womanly
barrenness through the image of anonymous mannequins to the hotels of Munich where the occupants
are just as anonymous as the mannequins we are introduced to in the first few stanzas. The anonymous
characters that Plath creates in this poem suggests to the reader about her stillborn child who she never
knew and never got to meet. The first few stanzas are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

perfection refers to the opening image of mannequins and suggests the idea that women in Plath s time
were either able to bear children or were a perfectly formed mannequin. Through this quotation, we
understand that Plath was confused about what society wanted from women and what she was to think
about these views. In many of her poems, such as Lady Lazarus , she tries to defeat the stigma
attached to not having children and often tries to fight against the views that her culture had, however
in poems like The Munich Mannequins we see Plath conforming to these views by degrading and
dehumanising these perfect women. Plath dehumanises these childless

Family Functionalism
Finally, in The Concepts of the Family Dynamic, Ruth Wienclaw evaluates the Structural
Functionalist attitude toward the social problem of divorce. Structural Functionalism is the paradigm
that describes social problems as parts of life which are necessary to maintain balance. As Wienclaw
writes, structural functionalists see divorce as a challenge, supporters of the conflict theory find that
divorce is the result of contradictory opinions of people in the family, and symbolic interactionists
think divorce or different types of families are a product of modern outlooks surrounding the family
(Wienclaw, 2014). She also addresses the shortcomings of the functionalist theory by pointing out that
it does not call attention to the issue of abuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since I started this paper without a specific, for or against argument on the matter, I have gained more
knowledge about how exactly divorce affects the family. However, my position on this social problem
has not wavered very much. While I do agree with most of the scholars that addressed the issues
surrounding divorce and how they affect children and single parents, I could not find many arguments
that undeniably agreed with the notion that divorce could have positive effects. Although, a persuasive
argument that was introduced was that relationships that are unhealthy could be ended with the help of
divorce. More than one of the resources stressed the importance of more research into if divorce was
the only cause of single parent household hardships and evaluating whether there were more positive
effects of divorce since less research on this subject has been done in comparison to the negative
effects of divorce. I recognize that I am speaking about a fraction of the problem and that other issues
under this topic need to be addressed. In other words, it is imperative that all facets of divorce be
investigated in order to truly understand all parts of the social

US Consumer Culture
While the US consumer culture has many different goods that encapsulate its uniqueness, nothing
quite represents the US than its trash. You are probably asking yourself at this point how a country s
waste can have any importance at all in its consumer culture. Waste is one output every company, no
matter its size, must be concerned with. With the ever present climate problems our society faces,
proper disposal of waste is a necessity. Luckily for companies in the US, they have found a way to
capitalize through strategic marketing and planned obsolescence. Yet, unfortunately for consumers,
they are often taken advantage of without knowledge of the occurrence. The true American view on
consumerism, where products are bought with a short term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are the manufacturers and corporations whose main concern largely is to profit. there are the
environmentalists who want to preserve the community and promote recycling to help diminish the

obsolescence in mind, some who buy with the environment in mind, but do little research to ensure it
is a wholesome company, and then there are those who to extensive research to make sure they are
hurting the environment as little as possible. Consumers have the opportunity to make conscious
decisions to help our environment, but the reality behind products is well hidden and needs to be
brought to higher attention. Waste epitomizes the American consumer culture to continuously buy new
products, and not think about the harm it is causing the environment. Recycling has evolved over time
into a ploy to make consumers spend more money, and is causing more harm to the environment by
increasing the amount of packaging used over product. The growing consumerist culture can be
attributed to the increased greenwashing scheme. Is it morally right for companies to increase their

Deception In Much Ado About Nothing
William Shakespeare s comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, features a wide cast of characters and
follows a variety of plotlines that deal with love, loss, deception, and redemption. Within the scenes of
the play, the old adage you don t know what you have got until you lose it is clearly applicable,
especially in the case of Hero and Claudio s love story, but this sentiment could surely be changed to
you don t know who you are until you lose it . This changed aphorism could almost constitute as a

Select One Of The Three Characteristics Of Information...
1. Select one of the three characteristics of information security (CIA) and explain its importance as
related to the development of policy, education, OR technology.
Confidentiality is one of the three characteristics of the C.I.A. model. It establishes those with
sufficient privileges and the need to access the information. Confidentiality is most related to
information privacy. It is extremely important to protect the information of employees, customers, or
patients. No matter what type of organization it is it will disclose confidential information. That being
said, all confidential information is vulnerable to accidental exposure or an intentional hack. If an
unauthorized individual or system views the information, confidentiality is breached. Confidentiality
contains several measures that are applied to protect the confidentiality of information. These
measures include information classification, sure document and data storage, application of general
security policies, education of information custodians and end users.
Confidentiality must be met in the storage, processing, and transmission of data in an organization.
For example, we are going to look at a major recent data breach. On March 8, 2017, the US
department of homeland security sent Equifax and notice to patch a vulnerability in versions of the
Apache Struts software. On March 9, Equifax dispersed the information to applicable personnel.

Curry s spectacular 2015 16 season spoke to his will on and off the court. After rewriting legendary

The NBA has offered a blueprint for how to succeed, which could also rapidly homogenize players in
the league. The change could also leave players, who had jobs this year, unemployed next season. That
circumstance provides the potential for a messy turnover period where the quality of play slightly
suffers. A final superfluous concern: promoting Curry is just promoting another good guy. Haven t
some criticized the NBA for lacking villains ?
That aside, the NBA is more exciting than it has been for a while. A new style of play and a non
traditional power have been born in Oakland, Calif., and Curry is the ringleader of the renaissance.
Most seem to also believe that Golden State will secure its second straight title in June. Three pointers

Break Break Break Analysis
The poem Break, Break, Break was composed by Lord Tennyson Alfred. Written in rhyming quatrain
stanzas with a trimeter rhythm, this piece of literature expresses the thoughts of a man who has
recently lost someone he was close to. Accordingly, the themes displayed in this poem are death,
sorrow, and passing time. The composer of the poem is unable to speak his mind, for his tongue will
not allow him to speak the thoughts that arise in [him] (4). This phrase displays the emotional distress
being experience by the author, as well as avoidance of responsibility for what he is unable to say. He
does not take claim of being unable to say his thoughts aloud but rather blames the inability on his
tongue. Later on in the poem, we learn of the reason for this emotional distress the author is
experiencing. The author longs for the touch of a vanished hand/And the sound of a voice that is still
(11 12). These two eerie indicators point the reader towards the conclusion that the author has lost
someone with whom he was close. The author continues to use the physical world to describe the one
he has lost, emphasizing the presence of death within the poem. The combination of his inability to
say what thoughts he has and his use of physical world descriptions for this missing person may
indicate that he is still in the early stages of grief, attempting to fully comprehend his loss. The author
includes implications of jealousy within his poem. This jealousy arises when he first observes a
fisherman s boy playing joyfully with his sister and then when he sees a sailor lad singing cheerfully
in his boat on the bay. These lines providing evidence of this begin with O well (5,7). The use of this
phrase before his observations leads the reader to the conclusion that he is jealous of the happiness of
these people. After suffering a great loss, one is inclined to wish they could once again experience the
joy they see in others. This is further evident with the presence of the statement of but the tender grace
of a day that is dead/Will never come back to me (15 16). The authors thoughts of jealousy and death
lead to the main theme of this poem, sorrow. The author recalls the day that he was able to enjoy the

The fundamental factor, that determines the differences in the boy s lives, is whether their parents

Student Success Exploration Paper In Life there are roads and there are choices. The right or left turn
you make along the winding path throughout your life is and should be the one that makes you happy.
Furthering your education may be your best and only way to make that right decision. At the present
moment I am now currently attending Valencia Community College working towards my Associate
Degree in Computer Science. My current major is Computer Science, although Computer Engineering
with a focus in Software is what I will most likely pursue as my Bachelor of Arts (BA). Computer

Qantas Market Segmentation
The airline industry has long attempted to segment the air travel market in order to effectively target
its constituents. The classic airline model consists of First Class, Business Class and Economy, and the
demographics that make up the classes have both similarities and differences to the other classes. For
instance there may be similarities between business class travellers on a particular flight, but they will
not all be travelling for the same reason. An almost universal characteristic of air travel is that
customers do not fly for the sake of flying; the destination is the important element and the travel is a
by product, a means to an end that involves the necessity of an aircraft that gets the customer from
point A to point B. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently Qantas has partnered up with Emirates in an effort to channel Europe bound travellers
through Dubai International Airport in a mutually beneficially arrangement, an example of business to
business geographic segmentation marketing. Qantas encourages tourism by broadcasting the same
television and print advertisement to both international and domestic customers with iconic images of
Australia. This is a marketing strategy that serves multiple purposes, it stimulates Australian tourism
abroad while firmly associating Australia with Qantas and also encourages brand loyalty from
Australians who wish to support their country. Because of the large variety of airlines both
internationally and domestically, Qantas has marketed themselves towards service; they are the only
full service airline in Australia.
Demographic
The demographic characteristics of customers can be broken down by the class they choose to fly.
First Class is chiefly attracting high income earners, who are concerned with a high level of service
and enjoy an air of exclusivity. These are knows as comfort seekers and they can include business
magnates, federal politicians, sporting stars and a list celebrities. The First Class market is highly
concentrated; less than 3% of passengers will choose to fly First Class but those customers make up
close to 30% in revenue for the airline (Keen and Strand 2007). Because the focus is on service and

Essay On Eroia Concert
On February 19, 2017, I attended one of the concerts in Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra s (ISO)
Telamon classical series, Beethoven s Eroica at the Palladium in Carmel. I went with the doctor I
shadow as well as another student, his son, and a friend of Dr. Arthur. I was initially invited over to the
Arthurs to babysit so that his friend could attend the show but was told to dress nice in case there was
a chance that I might go. When I arrived, Dr. Arthur changed his mind because he had extra tickets
and said how we were going to commit a faux pas we brought an eight month old baby to the concert.
We were seated in the box on the right side of the theatre and had a complete view of the orchestra.
This was a Sunday afternoon and the Palladium was hardly filled. There were three concertos:
Stravinsky s Symphonies of Wind Instruments, Adams s Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra, and
Beethoven s Symphony No. 3 in E flat Major, Op. 55 ( Eroica ). I attended this concert before learning
of Beethoven in class, but Dr. Arthur still informed me of how Beethoven had originally written this

Stravinsky wrote this particular piece two years after the death of Claude Debussy in his memory as
per request from La Revue Musicale. The piece was not meant to please the audience, and
understandingly so. I did not actually enjoy the music until Beethoven s Eroica began. The first half of
the show was interesting to hear and watch, but there was a lot of dissonance. There were sharp
sounds, abrupt chords, and irregular phrases. The passages were in blended timbres and the
instruments used were oboes, the French horn, English horn, and contrabassoon. The tonality was hard
to distinguish as the sounds were all over the place including instrument solos. The overall dynamics
of the concert ranged from mezzo piano to piano and then ended with

The Structural Change Of Silver Nannoparticles
Systematic studies on the structural change of silver nanoparticles, which are easy to change shape
and exhibit excellent localized surface plasmon resonance effect, were carried out and the predicted
shape change was compared to the actual nanoparticles. Herein, key information on the alteration of
silver nanoparticles was determined theoretically by a computational method, discrete dipole
approximation (DDA). The galvanic reaction and sulfidation reaction were suggested to improve the
stability of silver nanoprism (AgNP). In addition, the effect of additionally generated spherical
particles, silver nanosphere (AgNS), on the absorbance was studied. Both AgNP and AgNS formed
hollow nanostructure after the galvanic reaction, and these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The first solution for the scattering and absorption properties of a spherical nanoparticle was provided
by Mie et al. [10,11]. Since the initial development of Mie theory, it is now well known that the strong
optical properties of plasmonic nanoparticles result from an induced coherent oscillation of the free
conduction band electrons within the plasmonic nanoparticle. Thus, in our previous studies [12,13],
bimetallic Au/Ag nanoframes with excellent LSPR feature were prepared via the galvanic replacement
reaction and sulfidation and successfully used as the spectator for Co2+ ion. However, there is no
theoretical interpretation of color changes with structural transformation of Au/Ag nanoframes from
Ag nanoprisms. Therefore, herein, we used a theoretical approach to determine the key information on
the alteration of Ag nanoparticles by using a computational method, discrete dipole approximation
(DDA). It is very adaptive to deal with various particle shapes, not just limited to highly symmetrical
geometries. DDA is used to estimate the optical properties of plasmonic materials responding to
external electrical field through dipole moments of discretized dipoles [14 17]. The absorbance of the
particles was calculated by the Discrete Dipole Scattering (DDSCAT ver. 7.3), which was used to
design highly stable nanoparticles with absorbance in the visible

announcement. Our topic was on what people can do to save the environment. We made the project
with a mixture of photos from the internet and photos we personally captured. Then, we added music
and the project would be complete once we recorded. Two thirds of the way done with our project, my
group decided to slow down our pace. We stopped the project altogether and we remembered the
assignment once our teacher reminded us. She told us that it was scheduled

My Habits With A Healthy Lifestyle
Around 4 years ago I made the conscious decision to live a healthier lifestyle. I decided almost as an
experiment to refine my eating habits, start exercising on a regular basis, cut back on drinking alcohol
and to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. I wanted to see if it made any impact on how I felt both
mentally and physically. After maintaining these new habits for a couple of months I realized how
much happier, calmer and healthier I felt. I also noticed that I personally respond positively to having
a schedule that I follow everyday. In the beginning the whole process of changing how I lived was not
simple, however eventually I felt amazing. Four years later and I am still seeing the positive
aftereffects of living this way and have made even more positive adjustments due to how incredible it
makes me feel. It has become second nature and I do not think I will ever go back to my old unhealthy
habits. On a regular week I have about 7 8 hours of sleep a day and I work out in some capacity 7 days
a week. I have 5 days where I exercise for at least 30 minutes a day and on the other two days I do 15
20 minutes. Since making the decision to be healthier I am at the point now where I need to be active
everyday, even if its just a quick 15 minute session, it helps start my day on the right foot and keeps
me balanced. I revel in working out and due to it bringing me pleasure; it ends up being a stress
reducer (Sapolsky, 2010, p.261). Unfortunately work lately has

Protean DriveTM In Wheel Motors
Although the concept of incorporating in wheel motors is not an original idea, it has proved to be quite
a challenge. Some of the challenges many pursuers of this idea have faced was how do you fit a motor
in such a small frame and how much of an effect will the change of sprung to unsprung mass will
detract from the overall performance of the motor. Protean Electric dealt with this issue by so to speak,
reinventing the wheel. They ve created an independently controlled system of in wheel motors that can
be retrofitted onto Hybrids, EV and even traditional internal combustion engines. What results is a
vehicle with improved fuel economy, greater driving/braking torque, increased power and improved
handling.
Due to the physical constraints of having to fit a motor inside the frame of a size 18 24 wheel, Protean
Electric effectively turned their in wheel motor system inside out. Traditionally, the design of the
motor involved placing the rotor and magnets inside of the stator. However, instead of fitting the rotor
inside the stator for the in wheel motor, they have actually moved the rotor to be on the outside so that
it encases the stator. The increased size and surface area of the rotor creates far more torque which
allows the Protean DriveTM to boast one of the largest torque densities for any electric vehicle motor.
This change also generates more available space which allows power electronics and

The Cave Allegory
We experience reality through our five senses; sight, touch, smell, taste, and hearing. These provide us
with the ability to experience reality. But with illusion, we use our imagination. The Cave Allegory
talks about imagining a cave full of imprisoned people since their birth, facing a blank wall. The
prisoners watch shadows of objects passing in front of a fire that is behind them and gives names to
these shadows. Now since these people have been chained to the wall all of their lives, the shadows
are their reality. Once broken free from the chains, the prisoners are able to see the objects for what
they are and discover that their reality was not really what they thought. The Matrix is about heroes
fighting against sentient machines that try to control the human population because their bodies are
used as an energy source. The main character Neo, is a computer programmer and he is drawn into
war against the machines. The Matrix is a imitation that creates a false world where people are
prisoners from reality, much like Plato s Allegory of the Cave. Some say that hip hop is a dream while
others say it is an illusion. I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In America, young boys take an interest in these things and this becomes their dream or goal. These

The Interpretation Of Woodrow Wilson
The interpretation of Woodrow Wilson (1913 21)
I have taken this from an external source to show the power of idealism, and how Woodrow was
perceived.
Wilson abandoned the imperialist policy and brought to the White House a new way of looking at
America s relations with the outside world. Wilson believed that the United States was the most
politically enlightened in a sense under god, he felt that people throughout the world had their right to
choose their own governments. Wilson was only protecting people rights to democracy.
Primary Source Analysis
6. Wilson Defends the Peace Treaty and League, 1919 (Indianapolis, Indiana September 4)
As I read in between the lines of the text it comes clear that U.S appears to be the Super country and
not only that, I believe that Woodrow Wilson is protecting the interest of countries by making them
sign a Treaty explaining them not allowed to go to war for no reason of any sort.
The text conveys the talk of economic boycott I believe what he was trying to convey was that anyone
who economically trades with a country that has started a war with a country but another country and
helps them with the economy, will be part of the country of war and will not be funded and also
isolated and cannot take their decision back.
In text 5 talks about articles of the league of Nations Covenant 1919. Article 10 to article 14, talks
about any member of league to act hostile or aggressive, is declared a matter of concern and if
becomes serious then

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit
Jeanette Winterson s novel Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit when published in 1985 as her first novel,
it was unanimously regarded as a realistic and heavily autobiographical comedy of coming out
(Onega) in which the narrative structure employs elements derived from the Bildungsroman tradition
expression of the heroine s quest for individuation, as much as a feminist gesture of self assertion,
deployed in a hostile Pentecostal Evangelist environment. The story of young Jeanette, the character,
clearly echoes the author s own story: the protagonist falls in love with another girl, and has to fight
her emotional way through the coercive norms of her religious community in the North of England.
The novel was read in the light of the emerging

Digital Media And Video Art And New Media Art
Pop culture and art have always intertwined, as art often reflect the culture and time of that period.
Now in this tech savvy culture of the 21st century, artists are trying to explain this weird new era of
technology seeping into our everyday lives, through video art and screen based media. There is no
doubt that the Internet has transformed our everyday lives, with useful apps, online banking and social
media, the world is not the same as it was 10 years ago. Future generations, wont even remember a
time without the Internet or touch screen devices. This type of new Internet culture opens and changes
the social dynamic and conventions, into a new language. For artists this opens up a new platform to
create, explore and to exhibit their work in a new space. Social media, allows people to connect and to
distribute content from all over the world, making it ever so easy to access anything now. However,
for the art world this raises questions as to who owns or curates content and whether new media art
that has emerged due to advancement of technology is considered fine art?
To understand this new wave of art, we first must define what is new media art is. New media art and
video art have very similar backgrounds and parallels. Video art emerged during the 1960 s, due to the
introduction of portable cameras, which allowed everyday people to create their own content. Similar
to video art, new media art or Internet art, emerged to the easy accesses of technology and the

Jerry Lewis Analysis
Citric of the critic a critical thought.
In both of the articles referring to Lewis neither make very good arguments in my opinion, which is
the point/goal of many critics: to gain (or at least appeal to) an audience that has their point of views
and to establish a reputation as a writer and a critic which develops a following and somehow makes
them qualified to tell their readers what is good and/or bad. Both articles take the stance of
stereotyping cultures and what they think when it comes to Jerry Lewis. Stereotyping is a problem in
the world, something which I feel is the point of many critics but does not sit well with me. They take
the time to watch a movie and offer their view point on the film, dissecting and diagnosing the film in

As a critic and writer the author loses his reader in the first paragraph making it difficult to want to
continue reading, American Fascination with the French critical application of Lewis. (Selig 42) Who
cares what other countries critics view films produced in other countries? If the French like Lewis let
them like Lewis, it s their choice and opinion. American critics were worried about how the French
perceived and stereotyped American s, undermine the presentation of a unified male subject and thus
the conventional Hollywood representation of Masculinity. (Selig 46) How the French view American
males during the time is not the fault of Lewis. His work was appealing to the French (and many
American movie goers) because he was making comedies to lighten the mood of the times. From the
information in both articles an argument for or against Lewis got lost and became more about how
American critics perceived the French interpretation of Lewis as an auteur. That is the French were
more impressed with Lewis because of his style in presenting the topics within his films. American
critics seemed to be appalled that Lewis was the French s perception of what American male life was
like. However, Is it ok that Americans think of the French as all having berets, wearing black and
white striped shirts, riding bikes with baguettes in their basket? This is an American stereotype vs the
French who may think all American males are funny and stupid acting and will do anything for love

Working With Nursing And Healthcare Leadership
Throughout this communication course I have learned and attempted to apply new skills in
communication and group interactions. I have collaborated with nursing and healthcare leadership
professionals on a project to improve communication and health outcomes for a specific population.
As our group has formed and developed during this quarter, I have identified strengths and
weaknesses in my ability to work within a group. The four stages of a group, as described by Connery
and Vohs (2006) will be discussed as they pertained to my perception of the group process and
outcomes this quarter. My communication strengths, weaknesses, and my adoption of the informal
roles outlined by Connery and Vohs (2006) with regard to group work will be analyzed as well as my
plan for utilizing my strengths and addressing my weaknesses for future interactions and group work.
Group Phases During our Forming phase, as described by Connery and Vohs (2006), we spent a little
time getting to know each other, but we stuck to the basics like names, work schedules and phone
numbers. After these initial introductions, we assigned the roles of coordinator and recorder and
discussed some group norms that we wanted to adopt for the quarter. We then started discussing the
focus of our group work and trying to devise a plan for how we will move through the quarter. I think
it is a normal reaction whenever anyone is meeting or working with someone for the first time to tend
to be more reserved and try and

Darkness And Darkness In John Milton s Relation To Darkness
Perhaps, within one line, Milton describes the nature of all emitted light; that it must, if we are to call
it light, be considered in relation to darkness and that darkness must be considered in relation to light;
that a thing cannot be without its opposite, since any one member of an antithesis cannot exist without
a counter member, or an anti member; as a white horse cannot be compared to a black one without the
black one being present; A cannot be compared to B unless B is present; by extension, an antithesis
works by expressing two extremities of any one quality, the antithesis of white is black, since, if we
were to evaluate colour, white suggests the prescience of white and the absence of black, and vice
versa. But, to what degree is blackness said to exist in whiteness? Are they two separate qualities? Is
one merely the absence of the other? Is so, the true nature of the antithesis is of one existent thing to a
non existent thing. Suppose we are to compare lightness to darkness: if light is said to exist, as an
emission which illuminates darkness, then light can only be considered as something which
illuminates darkness, and thus can only be considered in relation to darkness; likewise, if we are to
call darkness that thing which covers light, it must be considered in relation to its opposite, which
supposes that both exist; but, if we suppose that both exist, than darkness cannot be the absence of
light but must rather be covering of it. We run into problems,

The Effects Of Standardized Cognitive Tests On Student...
There is an exorbitant amount of focus on standardized cognitive tests in K 12 education today
particularly measures of intelligence and achievement. The usefulness of these tests notwithstanding,
they are limited in that they provide an incomplete picture of a student s abilities and needs. Having
worked 14 years as an English teacher at Bergen County Technical School of Paramus (Bergen Tech),
a vocational technical high school with a predominantly special needs population, I find it unfortunate
that the educational psychologists with whom I work have in recent years been directed to focus on
cognitive tests such as the Woodcock Johnson Test of Achievement and the Wechsler Adult
Intelligence Scale, to the exclusion of non cognitive measures that could provide insight into student
emotional health and personality. For school staff endeavoring to help students negotiate the path to
adulthood and guide them toward brighter more fulfilling futures, personality assessment could be
used to help clarify needs, determine the severity of problems, make predictions about future
behaviors, and aid in educational recommendations.
It is necessary to highlight some of the complications unique to Bergen Tech Paramus and other vo
tech schools so as to fully appreciate the potential benefit of reintroduction of regular personality
testing. Unlike the trade schools prevalent in Western Europe, which are regarded as normal and
respectable paths to gainful employment, vo tech schools in the

As a film, Les Misérables is based on a musical by Claude Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil that goes by the same name (Les Misérables) and is also based upon Victor Hugo s French novel Les Misérables, 1862 (Shoard n.p). This analysis looks at various elements of the movie ranging from the themes used in the film, its genre, artistic movement, the director s style and the film s representation on its country s culture. • 3. Sumer People Research Paper Sumerians... an ancient civilisation that most of you have probably never heard of. They were a nation of people settled in Southern Mesopotamia which, is modern day Iraq and Kuwait. Not only are these people one of the oldest civilisations in human history, with their existence dating back to 5000 BCE, but they re influence on our lives today, 7000 years later, is incredible. The Sumer people were the first to create a written language in 3500 3000 BCE, 2000 years before the ancient Chinese. They were the first to enforce the idea of a set time for a work day, there is evidence to suggest they invented the wheel, and are even responsible for time itself. The Sumer people divided day and night into 12 hours each consisting of 60 minutes with each minute consisting of 60 seconds, a method of time that is still used to this day. Apart from these incredible advancements in early human history, the Sumer people are also recognised for being possibly the second oldest civilisation to bury their dead. • 4. Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly smaller than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the earth. In addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and the earth. When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tide occurs. But why are these flows relevant to renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for use as a power source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In addition, there is a major advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very predictable. For example, there are not any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be optimal but there are charts of the tides. Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your community could work towards being energy independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there could be an opportunity to use any excess power generated as an income source. There are three ways to harness the power of the tides; tidal barrages, tidal lagoons, and tidal streams. The first, barrages, make use of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay about Technology in Forster s The Machine Stops The Internet provides accuracy, productivity, and possibilities that would be devastating if suddenly missing. Because of man s resiliency, I don t think that we would experience Armageddon if the Internet stopped. I do believe our world would become larger for a while. The miles shortened by email would lengthen due to postage delivery. The nanosecond returns to a minute, and memory would be placed back in photo albums and diaries. All changes would be temporary until necessity, and personal desire would lead the way to new technology. In the end, one truth stands; with technology comes great responsibility. The Machine Stops (Forster, 1909), contrasts in two main characters approach technology y. Vashti impatient with her son, Kuno, at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Did a loss such as this stir the visions of the cinematophote? To hold a photo does not satisfy the need to communicate, to look into a glowing blue screen and see the face, and hear the voice of a friend eases the pain of distance. Finally, it may have been the need for Forster to replace a confining rule book of a traditional religion with a new rule book, The Book of the Machine. The new book still held restrictions, including what is acceptable for public touching, People never touched one another. The custom had become obsolete, owing to the Machine. (Forster 5) Restrictions are tolerable because the personal comfort knowledge of Book of the Machine provides. The book became an object of worship for Vashti as we see when we read, Thrice she kissed it, thrice inclined her head, thrice she felt the delirium of acquiescence. (Forster 3) Desire birthed passion for a utopian society. Desire to no longer be a beast of burden; spending more time pursuing comforts, less time punching a clock. If we continue to become ever more connected what will our professional lives be like in another twenty five years? Keep in mind that research from the Pew Internet American Life Project discovered that 49% say ICT s make it harder for them to disconnect from their work when they are at home and on weekends. • 8. Movie Analysis of Jaws . Released in 1975, Jaws was probably one of the best adventure, action, and suspense films of that era. Directed by Steven Spielberg with the following staring main cast members Roy Scheider as Martin Bordy (chief police officer), Richard Dreyfuss as Matt Hooper (marine biologist), Robert Shaw as Quint (local fisherman), Murray Hamilton as Larry Vaughan (town mayor). Jaws the movie, is not like any other any other fish story. The film is about a gigantic 26 foot shark that has an appetite for people; how horrifying is that? The unusual story takes place on the seasides of Amity Island. When Chief Brody uncovers the partial body of a teenage girl with shark like bites, Chief Brody contacts a shark specialist to verify if the bite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His acts of heroism are acted out several times throughout the film. Of course, he also had his boat captain and a marine biologist along for the wild ride. This plays out to be a team like environment, in which they contributed their different individual strengths towards the common goal; hunting down the massive man eating shark. This film also used countless props; however, there is truly only one that needs to be discussed, and goes by the name of Jaws. This massive great white shark was a 26 foot mechanical beast. This enormous steel gutted fish was connected to a crane arm which allowed the shark to tread just underneath the surface of the water at a rapid rate. This gives the realistic feel of the amount of power this shark has; being able to swim at such rates of speed. This adds to the fright element of movie because we all know that big animals can be intimidating. Animals that are big and fast are even scarier. Animals that are big, fast, and hungry, are a force to be reckoned with. The film, Jaws, uses a variety of different photographic techniques. Panning was used quite often in this movie to remind the viewer that they were a long distance from the shoreline. Additionally, plenty of filming was done underwater. This allowed the audience to get a realistic feel for the surrounding environment. The brilliant underwater imagery resulted with help from the naturally dark and chilling emptiness of the foreign ocean world. A notable climatic shot is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Slate Belt The bioregion of the Slate Belt is in the northeastern most corner of Northampton County Pennsylvania. This bioregion is unique to others in the region due to the Martinsville Shale deposits. These deposits contain high quality slate that when quarried and sold on the market, lead the industry in the United State for over 100 years. The industry in the south valley consists of cement plants due to rich limestone deposits and abandoned iron mines in the west for the now defunct Bethlehem Steel. To the north of the Slate Belt lie anthracite coalmines from other geological deposits. To the east lie small quasi fertile farmlands and great swaths of deciduous forest. Further, the Slate Belt bioregion is easily defined by three major geomorphs: the Kittatinny Ridge/Blue Mountain to the north, the Delaware River to the east and south and the Bushkill Creek to the west. These landforms easily demark the bioregion. The people of Welsh and Italian ancestry of the local population that quarries the slate has created a culture that is filled with the pride. All of these unique attributes contribute to formation of a bioregion that can with effort and proper management become independent and self sustaining. The Slate Belt bioregion is nested within the Great Valley Section of the Valley and Ridge Province that was formed by thrust and fault folding during the Late Ordovician period through and Late Paleozoic era.(Bailey,1992; Geyer, 1979;Van Diver, 1990). As science and technology progresses, we have the opportunity to alter few aspects of our lives, even though our freedom and privacy may be in jeopardy. In Brave New World, science allows babies to be artificially produced in a laboratory. Nowadays, parents who cannot conceive children are also able to artificially produce their children with the help of science and the genes of both parents. As science advances, the parents may even be able to reform the genes of their baby in order to have that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though it is not as extreme as in the Brave New World, I feel that we are also being conditioned. It is more obvious now. When we watch commercials on television, we are conditioned to buy the products and believe that by buying that particular brand of clothing we will look better and be well liked. The ads are harmless as long as we do not sacrifice the important idea that we genuinely want the product and that we are still making the decision to buy it. A similarity between Oceania, in 1984, and our country today is that the caste system still exists. Most of the power belongs to the rich, or the Inner Party. The middle class, or the Outer Party, are trying to become part of the higher class. While the poor, or the Proles, are working hard in order to make ends meet and just want to be left alone.
  • 11. Like Orwell, I feel that the caste system will always exist. Also, the citizens of Oceania are constantly being monitored by the government. We are also being monitored. There are cameras everywhere, even though most of the time we are not aware of it. When we go to the store, the surveillance cameras are there to make sure we do not steal anything. When we go to the bank, cameras are watching us make our transactions. In some cities, cameras may also be watching us as we cross the street or get into our car. What is next? Cameras in our homes? However, due to the Marine Corps attachment with the Navy, it does not directly employ health care professionals such as nurses, doctors, dentists or psychologists like the Army. Instead, it receives these services from commissioned Navy medical officers. The Marines are a highly mobile amphibious attack force. Marines are trained to attack from the water and establish a beach head, an area of control on foreign soil. After the Marines take territory, other armed forces such as the US Army move in to maintain control, while the Marines move on. Marines are mobile, lightweight, and very rapid. I would compare the Marines to the head of the spear, wedging in to get a foothold and racing ahead once the land has been secured. In addition to acting as a lightweight attack force from the ocean, Marines are also perfectly capable of taking territory on land. Marines are trained for rapid deployment, and are often the first US military personnel on site. Marines also guard American embassies overseas, providing embassy security and safety. In volatile areas, being a Marine embassy guard is a very risky job. The US Army, on the other hand, is the primary ground based military forces. As such, the US Army captures and holds ... How Does Plath Use Metaphors In Munich Mannequins Plath s use of metaphor is effective in highlighting her depressive state, Plath often used metaphors frequently and used them as a contrast to her own reality. Through Plath s poetry, we understand that she was conflicted about being a woman and often viewed the world with a very childlike mindset. Plath s poem The Munich Mannequins , is a poem which floats between two images of womanly barrenness through the image of anonymous mannequins to the hotels of Munich where the occupants are just as anonymous as the mannequins we are introduced to in the first few stanzas. The anonymous characters that Plath creates in this poem suggests to the reader about her stillborn child who she never knew and never got to meet. The first few stanzas are ... The word choice of perfection refers to the opening image of mannequins and suggests the idea that women in Plath s time were either able to bear children or were a perfectly formed mannequin. Through this quotation, we understand that Plath was confused about what society wanted from women and what she was to think about these views. In many of her poems, such as Lady Lazarus , she tries to defeat the stigma attached to not having children and often tries to fight against the views that her culture had, however in poems like The Munich Mannequins we see Plath conforming to these views by degrading and dehumanising these perfect women. Structural Functionalism is the paradigm that describes social problems as parts of life which are necessary to maintain balance. As Wienclaw writes, structural functionalists see divorce as a challenge, supporters of the conflict theory find that divorce is the result of contradictory opinions of people in the family, and symbolic interactionists think divorce or different types of families are a product of modern outlooks surrounding the family (Wienclaw, 2014). Since I started this paper without a specific, for or against argument on the matter, I have gained more knowledge about how exactly divorce affects the family. However, my position on this social problem has not wavered very much. While I do agree with most of the scholars that addressed the issues surrounding divorce and how they affect children and single parents, I could not find many arguments that undeniably agreed with the notion that divorce could have positive effects. Although, a persuasive argument that was introduced was that relationships that are unhealthy could be ended with the help of divorce. More than one of the resources stressed the importance of more research into if divorce was the only cause of single parent household hardships and evaluating whether there were more positive effects of divorce since less research on this subject has been done in comparison to the negative effects of divorce. I recognize that I am speaking about a fraction of the problem and that other issues under this topic need to be addressed. Confidentiality is most related to information privacy. It is extremely important to protect the information of employees, customers, or patients. No matter what type of organization it is it will disclose confidential information. That being said, all confidential information is vulnerable to accidental exposure or an intentional hack. • 20. Break Break Break Analysis The poem Break, Break, Break was composed by Lord Tennyson Alfred. Written in rhyming quatrain stanzas with a trimeter rhythm, this piece of literature expresses the thoughts of a man who has recently lost someone he was close to. Accordingly, the themes displayed in this poem are death, sorrow, and passing time. The composer of the poem is unable to speak his mind, for his tongue will not allow him to speak the thoughts that arise in [him] (4). This phrase displays the emotional distress being experience by the author, as well as avoidance of responsibility for what he is unable to say. He does not take claim of being unable to say his thoughts aloud but rather blames the inability on his tongue. Later on in the poem, we learn of the reason for this emotional distress the author is experiencing. The author longs for the touch of a vanished hand/And the sound of a voice that is still (11 12). These two eerie indicators point the reader towards the conclusion that the author has lost someone with whom he was close. The author continues to use the physical world to describe the one he has lost, emphasizing the presence of death within the poem. The combination of his inability to say what thoughts he has and his use of physical world descriptions for this missing person may indicate that he is still in the early stages of grief, attempting to fully comprehend his loss. The author includes implications of jealousy within his poem. This jealousy arises when he first observes a fisherman s boy playing joyfully with his sister and then when he sees a sailor lad singing cheerfully in his boat on the bay. These lines providing evidence of this begin with O well (5,7). The use of this phrase before his observations leads the reader to the conclusion that he is jealous of the happiness of these people. After suffering a great loss, one is inclined to wish they could once again experience the joy they see in others. This is further evident with the presence of the statement of but the tender grace of a day that is dead/Will never come back to me (15 16). The authors thoughts of jealousy and death lead to the main theme of this poem, sorrow. The author recalls the day that he was able to enjoy the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The galvanic reaction and sulfidation reaction were suggested to improve the stability of silver nanoprism (AgNP). The first solution for the scattering and absorption properties of a spherical nanoparticle was provided by Mie et al. [10,11]. Since the initial development of Mie theory, it is now well known that the strong optical properties of plasmonic nanoparticles result from an induced coherent oscillation of the free conduction band electrons within the plasmonic nanoparticle. Thus, in our previous studies [12,13], bimetallic Au/Ag nanoframes with excellent LSPR feature were prepared via the galvanic replacement reaction and sulfidation and successfully used as the spectator for Co2+ ion. However, there is no theoretical interpretation of color changes with structural transformation of Au/Ag nanoframes from Ag nanoprisms. Therefore, herein, we used a theoretical approach to determine the key information on the alteration of Ag nanoparticles by using a computational method, discrete dipole approximation (DDA). It is very adaptive to deal with various particle shapes, not just limited to highly symmetrical geometries. DDA is used to estimate the optical properties of plasmonic materials responding to external electrical field through dipole moments of discretized dipoles [14 17]. Eagled Or Am 009284299 EE 451 Sleiman Protean DriveTM In Wheel Motors Although the concept of incorporating in wheel motors is not an original idea, it has proved to be quite a challenge. Some of the challenges many pursuers of this idea have faced was how do you fit a motor in such a small frame and how much of an effect will the change of sprung to unsprung mass will detract from the overall performance of the motor. Protean Electric dealt with this issue by so to speak, reinventing the wheel. They ve created an independently controlled system of in wheel motors that can be retrofitted onto Hybrids, EV and even traditional internal combustion engines. What results is a vehicle with improved fuel economy, greater driving/braking torque, increased power and improved handling. Due to the physical constraints of having to fit a motor inside the frame of a size 18 24 wheel, Protean Electric effectively turned their in wheel motor system inside out. Traditionally, the design of the motor involved placing the rotor and magnets inside of the stator. However, instead of fitting the rotor inside the stator for the in wheel motor, they have actually moved the rotor to be on the outside so that it encases the stator. The increased size and surface area of the rotor creates far more torque which allows the Protean DriveTM to boast one of the largest torque densities for any electric vehicle motor. This change also generates more available space which allows power electronics and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit Jeanette Winterson s novel Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit when published in 1985 as her first novel, it was unanimously regarded as a realistic and heavily autobiographical comedy of coming out (Onega) in which the narrative structure employs elements derived from the Bildungsroman tradition expression of the heroine s quest for individuation, as much as a feminist gesture of self assertion, deployed in a hostile Pentecostal Evangelist environment. The story of young Jeanette, the character, clearly echoes the author s own story: the protagonist falls in love with another girl, and has to fight her emotional way through the coercive norms of her religious community in the North of England. The novel was read in the light of the emerging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Digital Media And Video Art And New Media Art Pop culture and art have always intertwined, as art often reflect the culture and time of that period. Now in this tech savvy culture of the 21st century, artists are trying to explain this weird new era of technology seeping into our everyday lives, through video art and screen based media. There is no doubt that the Internet has transformed our everyday lives, with useful apps, online banking and social media, the world is not the same as it was 10 years ago. Future generations, wont even remember a time without the Internet or touch screen devices. This type of new Internet culture opens and changes the social dynamic and conventions, into a new language. For artists this opens up a new platform to create, explore and to exhibit their work in a new space. Social media, allows people to connect and to distribute content from all over the world, making it ever so easy to access anything now. However, for the art world this raises questions as to who owns or curates content and whether new media art that has emerged due to advancement of technology is considered fine art? To understand this new wave of art, we first must define what is new media art is. New media art and video art have very similar backgrounds and parallels. • 37. Jerry Lewis Analysis Citric of the critic a critical thought. In both of the articles referring to Lewis neither make very good arguments in my opinion, which is the point/goal of many critics: to gain (or at least appeal to) an audience that has their point of views and to establish a reputation as a writer and a critic which develops a following and somehow makes them qualified to tell their readers what is good and/or bad. Both articles take the stance of stereotyping cultures and what they think when it comes to Jerry Lewis. Stereotyping is a problem in the world, something which I feel is the point of many critics but does not sit well with me. They take the time to watch a movie and offer their view point on the film, dissecting and diagnosing the film in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a critic and writer the author loses his reader in the first paragraph making it difficult to want to continue reading, American Fascination with the French critical application of Lewis. (Selig 42) Who cares what other countries critics view films produced in other countries? If the French like Lewis let them like Lewis, it s their choice and opinion. American critics were worried about how the French perceived and stereotyped American s, undermine the presentation of a unified male subject and thus the conventional Hollywood representation of Masculinity. (Selig 46) How the French view American males during the time is not the fault of Lewis. His work was appealing to the French (and many American movie goers) because he was making comedies to lighten the mood of the times. From the information in both articles an argument for or against Lewis got lost and became more about how American critics perceived the French interpretation of Lewis as an auteur. That is the French were more impressed with Lewis because of his style in presenting the topics within his films. American critics seemed to be appalled that Lewis was the French s perception of what American male life was like. However, Is it ok that Americans think of the French as all having berets, wearing black and white striped shirts, riding bikes with baguettes in their basket? This is an American stereotype vs the French who may think all American males are funny and stupid acting and will do anything for love and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Working With Nursing And Healthcare Leadership Throughout this communication course I have learned and attempted to apply new skills in communication and group interactions. I have collaborated with nursing and healthcare leadership professionals on a project to improve communication and health outcomes for a specific population. As our group has formed and developed during this quarter, I have identified strengths and weaknesses in my ability to work within a group. The four stages of a group, as described by Connery and Vohs (2006) will be discussed as they pertained to my perception of the group process and outcomes this quarter. My communication strengths, weaknesses, and my adoption of the informal roles outlined by Connery and Vohs (2006) with regard to group work will be analyzed as well as my plan for utilizing my strengths and addressing my weaknesses for future interactions and group work. Group Phases During our Forming phase, as described by Connery and Vohs (2006), we spent a little time getting to know each other, but we stuck to the basics like names, work schedules and phone numbers. After these initial introductions, we assigned the roles of coordinator and recorder and discussed some group norms that we wanted to adopt for the quarter. We then started discussing the focus of our group work and trying to devise a plan for how we will move through the quarter. I think it is a normal reaction whenever anyone is meeting or working with someone for the first time to tend to be more reserved and try and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Darkness And Darkness In John Milton s Relation To Darkness Perhaps, within one line, Milton describes the nature of all emitted light; that it must, if we are to call it light, be considered in relation to darkness and that darkness must be considered in relation to light; that a thing cannot be without its opposite, since any one member of an antithesis cannot exist without a counter member, or an anti member; as a white horse cannot be compared to a black one without the black one being present; A cannot be compared to B unless B is present; by extension, an antithesis works by expressing two extremities of any one quality, the antithesis of white is black, since, if we were to evaluate colour, white suggests the prescience of white and the absence of black, and vice versa. But, to what degree is blackness said to exist in whiteness? Are they two separate qualities? Is one merely the absence of the other? Is so, the true nature of the antithesis is of one existent thing to a non existent thing. Suppose we are to compare lightness to darkness: if light is said to exist, as an emission which illuminates darkness, then light can only be considered as something which illuminates darkness, and thus can only be considered in relation to darkness; likewise, if we are to call darkness that thing which covers light, it must be considered in relation to its opposite, which supposes that both exist; but, if we suppose that both exist, than darkness cannot be the absence of light but must rather be covering of it. We run into problems, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Effects Of Standardized Cognitive Tests On Student... There is an exorbitant amount of focus on standardized cognitive tests in K 12 education today particularly measures of intelligence and achievement. The usefulness of these tests notwithstanding, they are limited in that they provide an incomplete picture of a student s abilities and needs. Having worked 14 years as an English teacher at Bergen County Technical School of Paramus (Bergen Tech), a vocational technical high school with a predominantly special needs population, I find it unfortunate that the educational psychologists with whom I work have in recent years been directed to focus on cognitive tests such as the Woodcock Johnson Test of Achievement and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, to the exclusion of non cognitive measures that could provide insight into student emotional health and personality. For school staff endeavoring to help students negotiate the path to adulthood and guide them toward brighter more fulfilling futures, personality assessment could be used to help clarify needs, determine the severity of problems, make predictions about future behaviors, and aid in educational recommendations. It is necessary to highlight some of the complications unique to Bergen Tech Paramus and other vo tech schools so as to fully appreciate the potential benefit of reintroduction of regular personality testing. Unlike the trade schools prevalent in Western Europe, which are regarded as normal and respectable paths to gainful employment, vo tech schools in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
