Cyp 3.1 Language Analysis
Throughout a child s early stages of life, language is used primarily for communicating with
parents in order to get what they need. From as early as birth babies communicate through crying in
order to tell parents what they want. Parents soon learn to distinguish between the hungry cry, the
wet/dirty cry and the tired cry. According to Halliday, 1975, children begin to learn their first
language from between six eighteen months old. He believes children are learninga system of
meanings . He looks at language from a functional point of view and suggests there are seven
functions that language serves for young children. The first four of these functions ensure that
social, emotional and physical needs are catered to, they are called, Instrumental, Regulatory,
Interactional and Personal. Instrumental refers to a child using language to ensure they get what
they need or want. The Regulatory function tells others what to do in order to control their
behaviour. The Interactional function relates to the use of language in order to interact with the
people around the child particularly those seen as important such as parents and siblings or close
friends. The personal function relates to how the child uses language to explain feelings, and their
own identity. The other three functions are used as children become older and want to know more
about the world, tell stories and pass on information.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first being the sensorimotor stage during which the infant child learns about the world around
him/her by using their senses to make sense of their environment. Towards the end of this discrete
stage the child begins to understand that things are represented by symbols, for example, mummy,
dog and ball. The next stage of development as described by Piaget is the Pre Operational stage
when a child comes to understand that written words can be used in order to communicate
information about the world around

Grendel Archetypes Essay
Multiple people have examined the classic epic known as Beowulf, but few have examined the
modern novel, Grendel. This in depth story comes out of the mouth of the horrifying monster,
Grendel. This tale brings meaning to Grendel s life and experiences, but there lays meaning behind
some of the character placement as well. The characteristic effects in Grendelrepresent one, if not
many, of Jung s archetypes such as the persona, the shadow, and the anima.
In this case, Jung clarified persona as how a person presents themselves to the world. Grendel s
persona restricts only to that of a scary, threatening beast. At the sight of Grendel, the neighboring
villagers immediately take up arms and cower within their meadhall. When in the presence of these
villagers, the humanoid beast becomes a self absorbed fiend who devours anyone with a mind that
stands against him. One might argue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grendel never became enemies with the Scyldings until he sought out the route of this shadow,
the dragon. When the dragon says unto Grendel in the line, If man s the irrelevance that interests
you, stick with him! Scare him to glory! It s all the same in the end, matter and motion, simple or
complex, (Chapter 5, page 73) he tricks the human like beast into carrying out havoc on the
villagers. After this long, deadly confrontation with the fabled creature, Grendel always seemed to
smell the evil presence of the dragon. This smell made the monster go mad and his actions
towards the Scyldings got to the point of massacres. Some may think the winged lizard remained
the source of the shadow, but it was not the only thing that led to Grendel s actions. The Shaper,
that seemed to enchant Grendel with his songs, became another key part of Grendel s shadow. This
shadow made it hard for Grendel to continue to grasp the basic concepts of the

History Of Prague Spring
Prague Spring, 1968
The Prague Spring is referred to when the Warsaw Pact allies invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968. In
1948, communism was the only political party in Czechoslovakia. The communist take over was a
very popular movement. One reason why it was such a popular movement is because Joseph Stalin
signed an agreement with Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt that stated that, the Red Army,
which would then lead to pro communism, would liberate Czechoslovakia. The second reason why
this was such a popular movement is because the people of Czechoslovakia remembered what
happened with the Munich Agreement, where most of Czechoslovakia was surrendered to Nazi
Germany in 1938.
By the early 1950s, Czechoslovakia was a Soviet style dictatorship and a loyal ally of the Soviet
Union (Goldman 123). Antonin Novoty was appointed the head of Czechoslovakia in 1952 by
Joseph Stalin. Novoty was not well liked by the Communist Party. He refused to make changes to
the political system, thinking that it would improve the Soviet s political influence in
Czechoslovakia. In 1967, many very popular writers rebelled against him. It made it more difficult
for Novoty to establish policies. The Communist Party then asked him to resign in January 1968.
The post of the first Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia was given to a man
named Alexander Dubcek. Dubcek was a dedicated Communist, but was wary of the Soviet
policies. He had met many people who came from Stalin s

How To Recruit Boy Scouts
Young men, from ages 11 to 18, in the Boy Scouts of America have the option to experience a trip
called Klondike. On this trip, various teams from each troop compete with their fellow scouts with
their mental abilities in a competitions of speed and skill. Every team must run with dog sleds
pulled by scouts, going to as many stations as possible to earn points on what they can do to
survive in certain scenarios with the skills and supplies they have in their sleds. The team with the
most points and as the quickest time wins the competition. These experiences prepare these young
men for future occupations and possible survival situations. Without these experiences and
knowledge one learns, many would be lost in these situations. Every young man should be required
to join Boy Scouts to learn the proper skills and mindsets required to withstand the conditions of life
and in survival situations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Historic Journey into Outer Space
Since the historic journey into outer space by Yuri Gagarin, manned spaceflight and space
exploration have generated and motivated astounding inventions and innovations. These discoveries
and developments affect every single person on Earth, and have improved a wide range of fields
including health, food, technology, entertainment, automobile, dental, medical, safety, sports, and
many more industries.
The first of this myriad of technological advances is the artificial heart pump, called the MicroMed
DeBakey VAD heart pump. It is a ventricular assist device that serves as a temporary solution until
a heart transplant is available. It works by pumping blood throughout the body to keep patients
alive until a heart is available. David Saucier, a NASA engineer and rocket engine fuel pump expert,
collaborated with Dr. Michael DeBakey, a heart surgeon to scale down the pumping technology
used in the space shuttle s main engine pumps.
Another of these great technological advances is the LifeShear Pyrotechnic Cutter. The LifeShear
cutter or more informally jaws of life is currently used by firefighters as an emergency rescue tool
to free victims from car accident wreckage. NASA s pyrotechnical separation technology was
implemented in the LifeShear cutters making them 70% cheaper than other handheld cutters as
well as 50% percent lighter.
An additional advancement was baby formula, more specifically a nutritional supplement called
Formulaid. This came about as NASA researchers

Spanish As A Spanish Language
Spanish is one of the most common languages in the world. Many people can read and write in
Spanish, but some people aren t able to speak in Spanish such as me. Even though I struggled
with Spanish, I overcame it by practicing every day and getting help to speak it correctly. Back in
high school, I did well in all my classes including Spanish. I understand the meaning and
grammar of some Spanish words, but I struggled to speak it. My teacher wanted us to present in
Spanish. I heard that I was worried because I m not the best at presenting and especially speaking
in Spanish (of course). In a matter of seconds, I decided that I need to practice if I want to get a
good grade and boost up my G.P.A.
On the next day, I downloaded an app called Duolingo that helps you learn and speak a new
language. To me, it s helpful because I can practice ten to 20 minutes per day and go over some
materials. On google reviews, most people loved Duolingo s lessons being so shorter, quicker, and
easier than Rosetta Stone. It can let me go back to lessons for a recap what I did. Better yet it uses
audio to let me hear how it sounds and speaking slowly to pronounce. Over a week, I had
improved my speaking skills from speechless to mumbling quietly. This app is great in learning a
new language, but not at speaking to people (which is my problem).
When I came back to school, I decided to ask one of my friends Kenzie to help me gain confidence
for my presentation. By the way, she is better than me

Therapy Dogs
We always say, Dog is the best friend of human, but how many of us know the history of human
canine relation and things that dogs have done for us? Maybe the one who truly loves dogs will
know about these. There is no exactly record about how dogs came into our lives, but dogs have
worked for human for the last ten to twenty thousand years. Although many dogs work for human,
it is not ethical to treat every kind of animals as property. The animals are first independent living
things, then they are workers for human. Just like human, none of the employers would treat their
employees as property, because every one of us is equal. Working for someone does not mean that
we are worse than anyone else. One of our misunderstanding to animals is that we always think we
are better than animals mentally, but in fact, animals can feel, sense, and think more than human.

Misbehaving here means that doing something that will hurt the others. Animals work for us for

their mistakes by punishing them in ways that will not harm them physically, like stop giving
them snacks. We should also show our praise when they have done a good job. Animals work for
human, but human should not breed them for personal gains, like greyhound and horse racing.
People may say that dogs enjoy chasing of prey, but these kinds of activities will only be harmful
to animals and may cause them to die. However, animals can work in an unsafe environment in

My Guest Star Featured Is Sara Picklesimer
Recently this week, we ve been discussing perception and how it impacts the way we
communicate in our daily lives. Interestingly enough, this episode of COMMPENDIUM hosted
by Professor Stephen Stifano focused on this subject and its attributes. Our guest star featured is
Sara Picklesimer, a University of Louisville graduate and now currently a doctoral student at the
University of Connecticut in the field of communication. She was born in Pinesville, Kentucky,
and started off as a biology major before realizing her passion was communication after taking her
first public speaking course. Despite being a shy and reserved individual, Ms. Picklesimer found
that she actually enjoyed and was surprisingly good at this field. She now teaches a gender and
communication course here at the University of Connecticut, which ties in gender through music
and a variety of other aspects in relation to communication. She gives us her expert lecture on two
primary topics related to perception: thin slicing and the impact and effect of gender on the ways in
which we communicate.
Professor Stifano mentioned some of the foundations of perception that we have discussed in our
lecture, including selective attention and perceptual filters. The other aspects revealed in this
podcast are thin slicing and gender. All of these elements tie into each other in terms of
communicating effectively and making decisions, and what make up perception. We learned that
perception is selecting, organizing, and

The Federal Reserve System Essay
The Federal Reserve System
Even before the creation of the Federal Reserve, banks were used by the public just as we use
them today. Deposits were made into savings accounts. Loans were taken out to mortgage a home
or finance a new business. Banknotes were issued and spent when the public borrowed from the
banks. Borrowers spent these banknotes just as paper money is spent today. These bank notes
were valued as money since they were backed by the promise that they would be exchanged on
demand for either gold or silver.
There was the occasionally belief on behalf of the public that banks would not be able to, or
outright refuse to honor their banknotes. This fear, if held by enough of a community, could lead to
a run on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These actions led to the fall in prices of securities. Loans were liquidated and borrowing from
banks and other lenders became difficult. Interest rates would rise rapidly and sharply. This type of
financial hardship led to the liquidation of bank credit. Over a long enough span, this liquidation
would lead to money crises (Federal Reserve System 5th ed pp. 10 11). These periods of financial
panics along with the inelastic money supply had long beleaguered the country. Bank failures,
business bankruptcies, and unstable economic development were results of the lack of a central
banking system (Federal Reserve System 8th ed. pp. 6 7). The Panic of 1907 was a bank run of
epic proportions that exacerbated the problem. Depositors withdrew their savings from the second
and third largest banks in the country. These banks were not able to generate enough funds to
cover the demand and subsequently closed their doors. Their closings rapidly spread fear across
the country leading to one of the largest runs on the banks the nation had ever witnessed
(Schlesinger pp. 41).
Fortunately, J.P. Morgan, the exorbitantly rich New York businessman came to the aid of the
financial system. He organized a group of bankers who shifted their funds to the failing banks.
Depositors were assured their savings were protected and could be withdrawn whenever they
wanted. The demand subsided and

influence within the South China Seas (SCS) 1.Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to propose a
course of action to counter the PRC s aggressive influence within the SCS specifically regarding the
ongoing territorial disputes. 2.Key Points. a.Ongoing territorial disputes between the PRC and other
SCS states demonstrate a resurgence of aggressive PRC influence that threatens regional stability
and security. b.The Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) is a regional organization
within the SCS that could peacefully moderate the territorial disputes. c.The current fiscal
environment in the U.S. limits the acceptable responses to the aggressive PRC influence tactics.
3.Discussion. a.Over the past 30 years, the PRC sustained substantial economic growth and
prosperity that has markedly increased its influence throughout the region while driving its need
for more energy and natural resources. The SCS and associated islands are a strategically and
economically important region due to the vast amount of energy and natural resource reserves
within, as well as the significant proportion of global shipping that passes through the area.
Numerous SCS islands have disputed sovereignty status and after a decade of peacefully wielding
its influence, the PRC has resumed its use of aggressive influence tactics to gain its advantage over
the disputed territories. The PRCs tactics

A Dream Deferred
The poetry of Langston Hughes, the poet laureate of Harlem, is an effective commentary on the
condition of blacks in America during the 20th Century. Hughes places particular emphasis on
Harlem, a black area in New York that became a destination of many hopeful blacks in the first half
of the 1900Гs. In much of Hughes poetry, a theme that runs throughout is that of a dream
deferred. The recurrence of a dream deferred in several Hughes poems paints a clear picture of
the disappointment and dismay that blacks in America faced in Harlem. Furthermore, as each
poem develops, so does the feeling behind a dream deferred, growing more serious and even angry
with each new stanza. br br To understand Hughes idea of the dream deferred, one... Show more

The poem changes moods with the lines I ve seen them come dark/ out of Penn Station / but the
trains are late. / The gates are open / Yet there re bars / at each gate. The people have not found
what they expected and hoped for in Harlem. These last lines help the reader to understand the
feelings that accompanied the harsh reality of Harlem. The addition of the blunt question, What
happens / to a dream deferred? maintains this understanding: this is the dream deferred, and this
is what the people were experiencing. The question is harsh and unyielding, and its position in
the poem creates a feeling of seriousness. Another Hughes poem, Same in Blues, attempts to
establish further the idea of a dream deferred, incorporating a type of dialogue between
characters to explain the components of a dream deferred, adding an element of anger to the end.
The first stanza has a woman telling her man that she has to keep moving, followed by the lines,
There s a certain / amount of traveling / in a dream deferred. This method continues through four
stanzas, where peopl converse, and a new component is introduced: a certain amount of nothing, a
certain amount of impotence. The last component the poem introduces is the most effective: There
s liable / to be confusion / in a dream deferred. The poem continues to say that there s liable to be
confusion / when a dream

me an indispensable lesson on how to encounter adversity and overcome hardships while juggling
everyday duties. My success in my more recent coursework should express my ability to work

Theme Of Symbolism In Snowball Berry Red
Чудак translates to odd person. A чудак is a person that goes in a different direction
than the rest of society. Vasily Shukshin s character of Egor Prokudin in Snowball Berry Red is a
perfect example of a чудак. Shukshin began life on a collective farm then moved to town
and worked in construction. Then the navy drafted him; there he began his acting and directing
experience. Throughout his life, he was torn between his Siberian peasant roots and his urban life
in film. This theme of up rootedness and not belonging to a single part of society is also
characteristic of Egor, and is one of the key reasons he is a чудак. Shukshin s чудаки

A romantic hero is someone who going against the societal norms and relates more to nature than
to people; that is definitely true of Egor. A reoccurring theme in Snowball Berry Red is Egor s
semi obsession with birth trees. Right after Egor gets out of prison, he has his taxi driver pull over
so that he can look at some birch trees. He talks to them as if they were people: He turned toward
the birch tree and stroked it with the palm of his hand. Hullo there! Ah, you look so... You re
like a bride. Are you waiting for your groom? Soon, soon he ll come. (131) When at the orgy, he
speaks to all the people there telling them of how impactful nature is for him: Brothers and
sisters, he said with feeling, my soul has just been shaken by a tender experience... Soon the
little flowers will begin to bloom. The birch trees will turn green. Egor suddenly choked up and
completely and had to stop... You can go out and walk and walk... through a little clearing deep
in the woods, down into a ravine where a brook is bubbling (166). Egor is so taken aback by the
imagery of nature that he is made speechless. Something against the major grain of society.
Nature for Egor is an example on how to live, as opposed to living the same as everyone else.
This is seen in the description of Egor after he leaves Lyuba: Egor stepped out into the wide
expanse of a new field... It had not yet been plowed, and pointed little shoots of grass had just
begun to break through. Egor strode along briskly, resolutely, stubbornly. That was the way he
had gone through life as he did through this field resolutely and stubbornly. He would fall, then
get up and again stride along. He would push on as though in that lay his only salvation, just to
go and go, never stopping, never looking back, as though in that way he might escape from himself.

As you can see, this region has a climate that changes gradually depending on the area it is located.
Natural resources contribute a huge part in this region. The two main products in this region
include gold and salt, which were traded across the Sahara for many years. Another major
contributor is the export of diamonds, gold, and magnesium. Although not many countries in this
region are as fortunate, Ghana relies on the export of these products, which resulted in a Per
Capita Income of $1,900. Although this is a very high income for this region, it is still low
compared to the industrialized world. Even though resources play a huge part in this
region, culture also contributes to what the region is like today. For example, The two main types
of cultures in West Africa are the Ashanti and the Benin. The Ashanti resides in Ghana, and is
known for their work in colorful weavings which are known as Kente cloth. The designs on this
cloth always provide a specific meaning. They are also known fro carving wooden stools, which
represent unity between ancestral spirits and members of a family. The country of Benin however,
has artists that have made objects out of metal and Terra Cota. They are also famous for their
statues, masks, and jewelry.

Unemployment On The Us Economy Essay
Name: Instructor: Subject: Date: Unemployment in US economy The unemployment turnover
view has a strong base on the contemporary thinking about unemployment in the entire United
States. Joblessness or unemployment takes place when an individual searches for another new
job and devotes most of time searching for another job. Moreover, unemployment comes into
being if an individual goes in search of a new employment after being out of labor force for a
long time. The individuals in search of employment get employed in monthly duration in a range
of 10% to 40%. The unemployment varies directly with separation rate and varies indirectly with
the rate of searching for a job. For a long time, labor market students have believed that the time
of acute rise in unemployment or recession were due to increased rates of separation from jobs
and decreased rates of finding jobs. From this perspective, the period of recession starts by the
trend of layoffs. The trends of layoffs are mainly done in industries of durable goods. As labor
market gets crowded with those seeking for employment, the rate of finding jobs decreases and the
after unemployment duration rises. In contrary, recent research and data have disapproved this
argument. The new perspective views separations as to have no contribution to the increased
problems of unemployment during the period of recession. The reason behind increased
unemployment during the recession is difficulties in finding jobs, not the dumping of those

Hot Potato Evaluation
Evaluation of Objectives #1
Social development: Sharing The children will respectfully share materials during play.
This developmental object was displayed through the Hot potato (share the animal) activity. The
activity consisted of a sharing action, by passing on the different animal to the next preschooler. I
believe that the objective was achieved though this activity, as except one child was eventually able
to pass along the animals properly. For example, in blue group six preschooler automatically
comprehended the objective of the game and passed the animals along smoothly, while two (G.M
and G.P) children need to be reminded that this is a sharing activity and that we need to
continuously pass along the animals. In yellow group every ... Show more content on

As I read the book about sharing and taking turns, I asked the preschoolers to describe what they
see and how the characters are feeling. The objective was only partially achieved in the yellow
group as I did not give an introduction explaining my book. This mistake could of possibly made
it more difficult for the children to describe the scenario in the story, as they did not know what
to focus on. On the other hand, I did ask questions throughout the book, prompting children to use
descriptive words to describe how the characters were feeling. For example, F.W was able to
explain and use descriptive words when answering my questions throughout the book, but at the
end of the book she was not able to describe the main theme. All eight children reacted the same
way. This is my fault as I did not specify where the preschoolers should maintain their focus.
Therefore, my second time implementing the activity allowed all eight children in the blue group
to fully achieve the objective, as I made sure to be more clear about what the children should focus
on, helping them interact and understand more thoroughly. Overall, the children reacted well to the
book as I used different tones to keep them

Atlanta Exposition Address Analysis
Booker T. Washington gave his famous Atlanta Exposition Address on September 18, 1895.
This speech was considered definitive in Washington s accomodationist strategy in response to
racial tensions in the South. In this speech, Washington responded to the question of what could
be done about the dreadful social and economic conditions of blacks and the relationship
between the southern blacks and whites. In this speech, he urged racial cooperation along with
acceptance of social segregation as a price to pay in order to receive education and economic
security. His speech was praised by some, such as Clark Howell of the Atlanta Constitution, for
political passivity compromising ideas in that time of prejudice. (archive.org) It was also
criticized by others such as W.E.B. Du Bois for accepting the idea of separate but equal . The
time period in which the Atlanta Exposition Address was delivered was referred to as the Post
Reconstruction Era . Within this era, there was institutionalized racism and legal discrimination.
Blacks were legally able to vote, however there were things like poll taxes and discriminatory
laws, such as the grandfather clause, that were put in place to discourage black voters. There was
also anti black violence such as lynching and riots including the Atlanta Race Riot of 1906
(Components of Jim Crow PowerPoint, slide 10) and the Tusla Race Riot of 1921. Both of these
riots combined saw just under 100 blacks killed and hundreds injured. (African

The Problem Of Homeless Heroin Injectors For A 10 Year Period
The public rarely pays close attention to homeless people on the streets. There is one kind of
homelessness that have dedicated their lives to heroin; these people call themselves righteous
dopefiends . Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg became part of the daily lives of these
homeless heroin injectors for a 10 year period in Edgewater Boulevard. Through various interviews
with the addicts, we came to find out their shocking personal histories that led to their addictionand
homelessness. These Edgewater homeless came from different ethnic backgrounds, however, they
shared two common things; all of them were homeless and were addicted to heroin. They lived in
dead end alleyways, storage lots, vacant factories, defective cars, and highway embankments (4).
The reason they labelled themselves as righteous dopefiends was because believed they were
worthy in society, despite their actions. Going through ceaseless pain and anxiety of hunger,
exposure, infectious diseases was reasonable to them because of their commitment to heroin (5).
Throughout my paper, it will show that medication has an important implication in the lives of the
homeless heroin injectors.
Moral expectations in the Edgewater drug community is based on sharing, fairness, and justice (6).
This type of economy is perfect for small communal societies, where their motto is to get mutual
aid in order to avoid the free rider problem. Members of the community pool their money together
to purchase heroin, and

William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Go up to just about any literary scholar and ask them the simple question of, who is the greatest
writer known to the planet. Many will respond with a likely sarcastic response, but tell you of the
man known as William Shakespeare. He s most popular for his drama play called Romeo and
Juliet, but holds credentials in the literary department for much more than that. He s written dozens
of plays, many dramas such as MacBeth and Hamlet, with some noteworthy comedies for the time
period like Much Ado about Nothing and A Midsummer s Night Dream. While some of his plays
have straightforward storylines and the title is extremely revealing about the characters and
meaning of the play, other titles are more vague and hidden to the unexamining eye. One title that
is noticed for having this effect of being vague to its reader is the dark comedycalled Measure by
Measure. There are many reasons and theories speculated upon the selection process for
Shakespeare s theatrical titles, but there is no definitive method for each of them. Shakespeare
named his dark comedy play Measure for Measurefor the small details in social, emotional, and
ironic encounters that lead to the play s ultimate climax. There are multiple social encounters
throughout the play that entice and explain the shows title in character interactions. The play
surrounds the actions of four main characters being Isabella, Angelo, the Duke of Vienna, and
Claudio. The social interactions of the story are highly detailed in

Adipocytes are also known as either lipocytes, or fat cells. There are two types of adipocytes,
these are white and brown. The white tissue, are considered of one large lipid droplet. The
brown tissue, are composed of numerous small lipid droplets. Have you ever wondered who

are considered of 18 20 percent fat, as men are considered of 10 15 percent fat. This is because of
two simple reasons. The first reason is because of exercise. Typically, men get more exercise than
women. Therefore, it is easier for men to burn of fat that women. For example, a man may be in

Sexual Harassment is NOT Tolerable Essay

defined as unwelcome sexual advances, wishes for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical
conduct of a sexual nature constitutes sexual harassment when submission to or rejection of this
conduct clearly or completely affects an individual s employment, unreasonably interferes with an
individual s work routine or creates a threatening, antagonistic or unpleasant work environment
(EEOC, 2002). The victim or harasser can either be a man or a woman, and sexual harassmentis not

To avoid sexual harassment s expensive penalty and diminish its occurrence, employers need to
recognize and understand both the reason for the harassment and the precise form of power being
abused (UMC, 2007).
According to Goodman (1991), power in sexual harassment has been viewed differently by men
and women. The literature on sexual harassment generally characterizes it as an abuse of either
role or sexual power. From the cases Goodman (1991) mentions in her report, it can be noted that
for men, power comes from official authority, and they view sexual harassers as principally
managers and supervisors. Men acknowledged that co workers could sexually harass one
another, but co worker harassment was mainly seen as a mix up (UMC, 2007). However, women
often distinguish all members of an organization as possible harassers, viewing it can be initiated
by any person who is perceived as having power.
However, it has been claimed that sexual harassment regulations are based on the point of view of
the victim, nearly always a woman, and based almost completely on the feelings of the victim.
Many men have argued that, it is almost impracticable to understand each other s feelings, and
many suits filed for sexual harassment supposed as misunderstandings between the two parties
(Goodman, 1991). Paul (2001) agrees that or women to expect respectful treatment in the
workplace is utopian, yet he also

Essay on Fraudulent Financial Reporting Schemes
Fraudulent Financial Reporting Schemes
Abstract
Routine examinations, audits, or internal control procedures, do not reveal most accounting fraud.
Only 20% is revealed by way of auditing, however whistle blowing accounts for most revealed
accounting fraud. Financial statement fraud will usually occur in such schemes as: fictitious
revenues, timing differences, concealed liabilities amp; expense, improper asset valuation, or asset
/revenue overstatements (just to name a few), (Frempong, 2012). It is essential one be educated and
thoroughly understand the different types of financial statement fraud schemes and the
accompanying accounting transactions in order to better identify fraud.

This is achieved by inflating the company s assets, net earnings, and/or equity. To understate
liabilities the company would not record accrued liabilities or accounts payable, service or
warranty liabilities, loans (or keep liabilities completely off of the company books), contingent
liabilities, and record unearned revenues as earned revenue.
Improper Asset Valuation
The more assets a creditor, lender, or investor can view on a company s books the more
appealing the companies are to the creditor s, lender s, or investors. Assets are used to earn the
company money in order to pay or pay off its debt. This can cause improper asset valuation of such
accounts as: accounts receivable, fixed assets, and or inventory. Considering the complexity of
inventory records, management finds inventory as an attractive place to commit financial statement
fraud. Inventory is sometimes comprised of larger number items and distributed from several
locations making it easier for the improper creation of estimates for slow moving or dated goods.
Additionally, management will create non existing inventory, manipulate the physical count, fail to
record the actual purchase, and improperly capitalize inventory, (Colby, n.d).

Fuel Injection Is A Mandatory Part Of The Combustion Process
Fuel injection is a mandatory part of the combustion process. The chemical energy provided by the
fuel allows the engine to transmit power for a myriad of uses in the marine industry including
power and propulsion or a combination of the both. The results of combustion include heat and
exhaust gases. These exhaust gases, in addition to cost, make fuel injectionsystems more important
today than ever. The International Maritime Organization s Marine Pollution Prevention annex VI
has established new regulations for nitric oxides, and sulfur oxide emissions which are the by
products of fuel combustion. Electronic fuel injection systems play a important role in the
reduction of these emissions by improving the efficiency of fuel combustion.
The main function of the fuel oil injection system is to provide the right amount of fuel at the
right time. In order for fuel injection systems to work, there must be a means of measuring the
fuel supply and a way to time the delivery and atomization of the fuel. This paper was completed
in order to examine and compare two types of electronically controlled fuel injection systems,
mechanically driven injection and electronic injection. The two types of systems we researched
were the Sulzer RTA Series and the Sulzer RT Flex.

Peer tutoring is an instructional plan with a strategy that consists of student partnership, linking

figure, and showing and displaying patience and understanding of the student s abilities. This will
allow the practice of a number of beneficial skills that will work collaboratively with peers that can
enhance teamwork and effective interactive communication skills. This study shows support and
giving academic advice as an important part of tutoring; however, it is also important for tutors to
understand that they are not psychological counselors. These are fundamentals for using peer

Foucault And The Panopticon
A Panopticon is a structure designed to where subjects can be observed from a central viewpoint,
but cannot view each other. Why can the Central tower supervise the inmates while the inmates
cannot supervise others? Simply because the central tower has the power, for the inmates to be
able to observe each other in the same manner would either be inconsequential, or unjust. Foucault
says that knowledge and power are deeply intertwined and that both can be used to produce the
other via observation, or control. One of the issues that arise from having a society similar to the
Panopticonis that not all of those who serve as a central tower can be regarded to as virtuous.

Arthur Dimmesdale And Double Life In Hawthorne By...
Isn t it remarkable how Arthur Dimmesdale manages to somehow, for seven years, keep his
private life separate from his public one? In regards to Arthur s behavior, Hawthorne states, No
man, for a considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude without
getting bewildered as to which may be true. To restate Hawthorne s quote: no one can be true to
him or herself, while lying to everyone because soon enough one will confuse the act with reality.
Having a Dimmesdale s style of living results in living a double life, plenty of penance, and self
damage affecting loved ones.
First off, when someone walks around with two faces, he or she will begin to live with two distinct
lives as well. For example, Dimmesdale is seen as the greatest saint in the Puritan community, but
he is secretly holding onto an unrepented sin. His humanly desires get the best of him when he
commits adultery with Hester Prynne and hence produces an elf child named Pearl. The sinner is
put on a pedestal and adored by his congregation in broad daylight. On the other hand, he is self
convicted through severe physical and mental reprimanding in the middle of the night. In the novel,
Hawthorne explains, In Mr. Dimmesdale s secret closet, under lock and key, there was a bloody
scourge...he kept his vigils... until his knees trembled beneath him...sometimes in utter
darkness...his brain often reeled and visions seemed to flit before him... (Hawthorne 141). At

It had been a fairly quiet day at the station until I had received a phone call from a distressed

She was still sulking as she said yes
Did you see the murderer? I asked.
She did not reply but just broke down in tears. Immediately our attention was drawn to the skid

The Warming Of The Climate System
Q 1. How do we Know climate system is warming?
Warming of the climate system is unequivocal. Since 1950 s many of the observed changes are
unprecedented over decades to millennia. The atmosphere and ocean have warmed, the amounts of
snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen. Additionally most of these climate changes
are due to very small variations in Earth s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet
receives. Earth orbiting satellites and other technological advances have enabled scientists to see
the big picture, collecting many different types of information about our planet and its climate on
a global scale. This body of data, collected over many years, reveals the signals of a changing
climate. The signal of climate change include rise of sea level, surface temperature rise ,glacier
retreats, shrinking ice sheets, warming of ocean ,declining artic sea ice ,increase in Antarctic sea
ice ,increase in extreme events ,decrease in the amount of snow of snow and ice ,increase in
concentration of CHGS.Each indicator described below has been extensively studied over the past

General Tilly. The soldier sent his letter to his father who will spread the news to the rest of the
Swedish people about their victorious battle. I, Sergeant Major John Forbes, am sending this letter
to you my honored and loving father to document the battle that we had fought. It pleases me to

given to me by Your Majesty Gustavus Adolphus. Thanks be to God

Upon seeing us marching towards them, General Tilly s forces likewise advanced towards us.
The battle ensued with our forces trying to quell their attacks of pikes, artilleries and cavalries. It
was an exhausting 5 hours long battle as we repelled countless attacks from our enemies. The
General s infantry used mixed formations of around 3,000 gunmen and pikemen, while the others
from them charged with their cavalries. The gunmen formed the outer section of the battle array,
while the pikemen gathered at the center. Cavalries were positioned on the wings of their
battalion and led the charges before the gunmen and pikemen. For our enemies, it was a standard
battle formation. The joint power of the King s army and the Saxons, on the other hand, used more
innovative battle tactics, which made our forces more mobile and agile than our enemies. Our
firing technique was more advanced than our enemy, utilizing five ranks pikemen at the back and
six ranks gunmen at the front. The first three ranks of gunmen fire simultaneously and the last
three ranks served as secondary firepower. This firing technique is very innovative since the first
three ranks had a variety of firing technique. The first rank is kneeling, the second rank is
crouching and the third rank is firing. The simultaneous firing of this three ranks have great
firepower to suppress cavalry attacks, while the secondary firepower coming from the

Sonnet Analysis
Reclaiming the Sonnet:
Cummings and Millay s Contemporary Use of the Classical Poetic Form Fourteen lines, iambic
pentameter, rhyme scheme the classical form of the sonnet has been employed by poets since the
thirteenth century. Whether the Italian Petrarchan, the English Shakespearean or other variations
on the quatorzain, some of the most widely read poets have risen to fame as sonneteers. Typically
sonnets address romantic love or lust, but occasionally poets will lyrically meditate on nature,
spirituality or other universal aspects of the human condition; however, modern poets have broken
from the traditional sonnet form and subject matter to put a contemporary twist on the popular
fourteen line model. American poets E.E. Cummings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker personifies his nation, proclaiming with second person pronouns, i love you land of
the pilgrims and so forth and later stating, thy sons acclaim your glorious name. The orator muses
over America s war efforts the way other poets might idolize a young fair maiden or exalt the
wonders of the natural world, the speechmaker inquires, why talk of beauty, claiming, what could
be more beautiful than these heroic happy dead who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter.
Cummings points out the absurdity of extreme patriotism and the dangers accompanying glorified
militarism with a speaker who praises his nation s violent efforts with the romantic rhetoric of love
poetry.
In addition to the heightened romantic language of the love poem, occasionally sonneteers will
also utilize capitalization to convey a specific emotion regarding the poem s subject. For example,
in his popular 116th and 18th sonnets, respectively, Shakespeare plays with capitalization in several
lines, including Love s not Time s fool and Nor shall Death brag. Capitalizing certain words that
encompass great meaning or emotion as Shakespeare indicates with Time and Death aids poets in
emphasizing the essential nature of said terms and their importance within the sonnet.
Cummings does not follow Shakespeare s practice

Why Does Conan Doyle Put So Much Emphasis On Social Class
Why does Conan Doyle put so much emphasis on social class? When it comes to the subject of
social class, this story reminded me of just about every other book we ve read this semester, in
the way they decided to depict the lower class. Both Holmes and Doyle come from a very
privileged and educated background, and had a very bad attitude towards anyone from even a
slightly lower class, even though they relied on the lower classes to do a lot of things for them.
They treated the lower classed people as second class citizens and it really speaks to the time
period. For some reason all of our stories have read include upper middle class people who
seemed perfect normal on the outside, but had some really weird supernatural or crazy thing
happen. It makes me think that one thing I could take from these books is mo money, mo
problems. Who s the real bad guy of The Hound of the Baskervilles?... Show more content on

The main conflict in this story is between the Baskervilles and the curse that haunts them. But the
only thing that is truly haunting them is Stapleton. Stapleton s corrupt behavior comes about in
the pursuit of money and power, reminds me of Heathcliff and his desire to have Wuthering
Heights and Trushcross grange. Stapleton, being a distant cousin of Sir Henry, has his eye on
securing the Baskerville estate for himself, and created all this mess for his selfish benefit:
requiring Holmes to deal with not just the physical threat to the Baskerville heir, but also debunk
all the fear surrounding the hound. So basically when someone in the family comes into some
money there will always be a distant long lost cousin wanting a piece of it. Its surprising how that
logic can be applied to both the time period in which the book takes place, and our current

Soccer Is A Sport Essay
Many people around the world enjoy soccer, people s obsession over soccer can range from
anything that has to do with the sport, watching soccer even playing soccer video games. Most
people do not understand why so many people are attracted to the sport. However, if you think
about it it is the emotions that are shared between the teams and the viewers, the connection
between everyone that is involved is so strong that it can lead to strong bonds and ties to specific
players or teams.
The history of soccer can be traced back thousands of years and there are multiple countries who
claim they created the sport. However, the country that transitioned and developed the sport was
England. The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) stated, For all the evidence
of early ball sports played elsewhere in the world, the evolution of football as we know it today
took place in Britain. The game that flourished in the British Isles from the eighth to the 19th
centuries featured a considerable variety of local and regional versions which were subsequently ...

Ebola Impact on Human Health amp; Hygiene Essay
Historically Ebola has had a serious impact on human health and hygiene and still does due to the
fact of no vaccine or treatment being discovered, but thanks to improvements in scientific and
medical knowledge the virus itself is now controllable.
Ebola is the virus Ebolavirus (EBOV), a viral genus, and the disease Ebola hemorrhagic fever
(EHF), a viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF). The virus is named after the Ebola River Valley in the
Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), which is near the site of the first recognized

Outbreaks of Ebola, with the exception of Reston Ebolavirus, have mainly been restricted to
Africa. * The Zaire virus, formerly named Zaire Ebolavirus, has the highest case fatality rate, up
to 90% in some epidemics, with an average case fatality rate of approximately 83% over 27
years. The first outbreak took place on 26 August 1976 in Yambuku. * The Sudan Ebolavirus
was the second species of Ebola emerging simultaneously with the Zaire virus. It was believed
to have originated amongst cotton factory workers in Nzara, Sudan. The most recent outbreak
occurred in May 2004 in Yambio County, Sudan. The average fatality rates for SEBOV were
54% in 1976, 68% in 1979, and 53% in 2000 and 2001. * The Reston Ebolavirus was discovered
during an outbreak of Simian hemorrhagic fever virus (SHFV) in crab eating macaques from
Hazleton Laboratories (now Covance) in 1989. Since the initial outbreak in Reston, Virginia, it
has emerged in Siena Italy, Texas, and among pigs in the Philippines. Despite its status as a Level

Essay on A Film with More than One Connection
In the film District 9 (2009), biopolitics plays a role in in the social segregation of populations,
and through the manipulation of political power based on eugenics and characteristics of living
beings. Although biopolitics is conventionally understood as positive and productive and supposed
to be used as a method to lead to benefits such as in doctrine, discipline, law, and policy, it often
leads to racism and discrimination (Prozorov 191). Although some governments use biopolitics as a
way to manage entire populations, it is not always in the best interest of all the populations. In the
film I acknowledge that biopolitics is used negatively towards the aliens, in order to benefit the
humans, and that most compare this movie to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
District 6, is another example of how historical fiction is used because in the film it is represented
by district 9. These are only a few examples of historical fiction within the film yet; make the film
more intriguing, and interesting to the viewer than just a history film alone. Rose believes that
history is always altered to the lenses of present time and subjectivity it is perceived (Rose, 216).
This leads many to not pay as much attention to history because they believe that it is only in the
perspective of which the government or teacher wants to them to know, and in fact that is often
the case. But somehow when you tell the viewer that it is a science fiction movie, they are more
intrigued by it and it seems to have a bigger effect on most viewers. Through the historical fiction
seen in the film we are able to understand what really went on in district 6, seeing as it represents
district 9, and how biopolitics ruined the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. In the film the
aliens were treated as scum of the earth, their rights were taken away, and they were not treated as
equals to the white peoples. They were of a different race, skin color, body type and spoke a
different language, which made the white people in the film want nothing to do with them. They

Never Lasting Reputation Quotes
Never Lasting Reputation (Pages 198 218) I think that there is a good reason on why you should
maintain the reputation of a legendary pirate rather than there being only one real person. I believe
this because reputations should last for a long time. They should never disappear. When the real
Dread Pirate Roberts decided to retire he wanted to keep his reputationgoing, so he passed down
the name to his friend. Once he did this there was a fake Dread Pirate Roberts, but there was still
the same reputation. Every single fake Dread Pirate Roberts that was chosen by the earlier ones,
all passed down the same reputation. The real Dread Pirate Roberts did this because he wanted

I think that younger kids can t handle bad endings to a book very well. Most kids are very upset if
the story doesn t turn out to be a good ending. The book is not what they want it to be, and they are
upset.
One example of this is the first sentence. William Goldman wanted Westley to survive and get
revenge on Prince Humperdinck, but when his dad tells him that doesn t happen he gets upset.
The main reason he got upset is because it isn t what he wanted to happen in the story. He wanted
the good guy to survive and defeat the bad guy, but when his dad tells him that the bad guy defeats
the good guy he doesn t like it.
Therefore this leads me to thinking that there is value in telling sad stories to kids. It teaches
them that there isn t always a good ending in stories. This could help them relate to real life
situations. They can learn that not everything turns out good, and that it is okay for that to happen.
In this case, they can learn how to overcome these sad events, so they can be prepared for
anything in the future. Everyone needs to know how to overcome disappointing moments in life.
Some could include, not winning a basketball game, failing a test, or not getting a job you want.
You can overcome these obstacles by working harder, not being sad all the

Homelessness Of Philadelphia And Pennsylvania
Homelessness Effecting Pennsylvania
In Philadelphia, homelessness is all around. On every street in the city, there will most likely be
a homeless person asking for money or sleeping on the ground owning little to nothing.
Homelessness is not only a major problem in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania but entirely the
United States. There are so many people living on the streets, in abandoned houses, and even
cars. The majority of homeless people are veterans, drug addicts, unemployed people, people
who have a mental illness and teenagers who have ran away. The best solution to getting people
off the streets and able to work, make money and living in a house or apartment that they can
afford is for the state to give more money to homeless shelters and organizations. If the state of
Pennsylvania gave more money to homeless shelters, the shelters would be able to open up their
doors to more homeless people and help them get back on track. The shelters would also be able
to build more shelters so they can eventually get all of homeless people off the streets. They would
be able to hire more people to help out with their mission and teach the homeless way in a crash
course of getting their life together. For the drug addicts, there would be rehab offered to the
homeless and it would then eliminate not only homelessness in itself but also drugs on the streets.
With such astonishing numbers, homelessness has increased within the last few years like never
before. There are more homeless

  • 2. Cyp 3.1 Language Analysis Throughout a child s early stages of life, language is used primarily for communicating with parents in order to get what they need. From as early as birth babies communicate through crying in order to tell parents what they want. Parents soon learn to distinguish between the hungry cry, the wet/dirty cry and the tired cry. According to Halliday, 1975, children begin to learn their first language from between six eighteen months old. He believes children are learninga system of meanings . He looks at language from a functional point of view and suggests there are seven functions that language serves for young children. The first four of these functions ensure that social, emotional and physical needs are catered to, they are called, Instrumental, Regulatory, Interactional and Personal. Instrumental refers to a child using language to ensure they get what they need or want. The Regulatory function tells others what to do in order to control their behaviour. The Interactional function relates to the use of language in order to interact with the people around the child particularly those seen as important such as parents and siblings or close friends. The personal function relates to how the child uses language to explain feelings, and their own identity. The other three functions are used as children become older and want to know more about the world, tell stories and pass on information.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Grendel Archetypes Essay Multiple people have examined the classic epic known as Beowulf, but few have examined the modern novel, Grendel. This in depth story comes out of the mouth of the horrifying monster, Grendel. This tale brings meaning to Grendel s life and experiences, but there lays meaning behind some of the character placement as well. The characteristic effects in Grendelrepresent one, if not many, of Jung s archetypes such as the persona, the shadow, and the anima. In this case, Jung clarified persona as how a person presents themselves to the world. Grendel s persona restricts only to that of a scary, threatening beast. At the sight of Grendel, the neighboring villagers immediately take up arms and cower within their meadhall. When in the presence of these villagers, the humanoid beast becomes a self absorbed fiend who devours anyone with a mind that stands against him. One might argue that ... When the dragon says unto Grendel in the line, If man s the irrelevance that interests you, stick with him! Scare him to glory! It s all the same in the end, matter and motion, simple or complex, (Chapter 5, page 73) he tricks the human like beast into carrying out havoc on the villagers. After this long, deadly confrontation with the fabled creature, Grendel always seemed to smell the evil presence of the dragon. This smell made the monster go mad and his actions towards the Scyldings got to the point of massacres. Some may think the winged lizard remained the source of the shadow, but it was not the only thing that led to Grendel s actions. The Shaper, that seemed to enchant Grendel with his songs, became another key part of Grendel s shadow. This shadow made it hard for Grendel to continue to grasp the basic concepts of the ... • 5. History Of Prague Spring Prague Spring, 1968 The Prague Spring is referred to when the Warsaw Pact allies invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968. In 1948, communism was the only political party in Czechoslovakia. The communist take over was a very popular movement. One reason why it was such a popular movement is because Joseph Stalin signed an agreement with Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt that stated that, the Red Army, which would then lead to pro communism, would liberate Czechoslovakia. The second reason why this was such a popular movement is because the people of Czechoslovakia remembered what happened with the Munich Agreement, where most of Czechoslovakia was surrendered to Nazi Germany in 1938. By the early 1950s, Czechoslovakia was a Soviet style dictatorship and a loyal ally of the Soviet Union (Goldman 123). Antonin Novoty was appointed the head of Czechoslovakia in 1952 by Joseph Stalin. Novoty was not well liked by the Communist Party. He refused to make changes to the political system, thinking that it would improve the Soviet s political influence in Czechoslovakia. In 1967, many very popular writers rebelled against him. It made it more difficult for Novoty to establish policies. The Communist Party then asked him to resign in January 1968. The post of the first Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia was given to a man named Alexander Dubcek. Dubcek was a dedicated Communist, but was wary of the Soviet policies. He had met many people who came from Stalin s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On this trip, various teams from each troop compete with their fellow scouts with their mental abilities in a competitions of speed and skill. Every team must run with dog sleds pulled by scouts, going to as many stations as possible to earn points on what they can do to survive in certain scenarios with the skills and supplies they have in their sleds. The team with the most points and as the quickest time wins the competition. These experiences prepare these young men for future occupations and possible survival situations. • 7. Historic Journey into Outer Space Since the historic journey into outer space by Yuri Gagarin, manned spaceflight and space exploration have generated and motivated astounding inventions and innovations. These discoveries and developments affect every single person on Earth, and have improved a wide range of fields including health, food, technology, entertainment, automobile, dental, medical, safety, sports, and many more industries. The first of this myriad of technological advances is the artificial heart pump, called the MicroMed DeBakey VAD heart pump. It is a ventricular assist device that serves as a temporary solution until a heart transplant is available. It works by pumping blood throughout the body to keep patients alive until a heart is available. David Saucier, a NASA engineer and rocket engine fuel pump expert, collaborated with Dr. Michael DeBakey, a heart surgeon to scale down the pumping technology used in the space shuttle s main engine pumps. Another of these great technological advances is the LifeShear Pyrotechnic Cutter. The LifeShear cutter or more informally jaws of life is currently used by firefighters as an emergency rescue tool to free victims from car accident wreckage. NASA s pyrotechnical separation technology was implemented in the LifeShear cutters making them 70% cheaper than other handheld cutters as well as 50% percent lighter. • 8. Spanish As A Spanish Language Spanish is one of the most common languages in the world. Many people can read and write in Spanish, but some people aren t able to speak in Spanish such as me. Even though I struggled with Spanish, I overcame it by practicing every day and getting help to speak it correctly. Back in high school, I did well in all my classes including Spanish. I understand the meaning and grammar of some Spanish words, but I struggled to speak it. My teacher wanted us to present in Spanish. I heard that I was worried because I m not the best at presenting and especially speaking in Spanish (of course). In a matter of seconds, I decided that I need to practice if I want to get a good grade and boost up my G.P.A. On the next day, I downloaded an app called Duolingo that helps you learn and speak a new language. To me, it s helpful because I can practice ten to 20 minutes per day and go over some materials. On google reviews, most people loved Duolingo s lessons being so shorter, quicker, and easier than Rosetta Stone. It can let me go back to lessons for a recap what I did. Better yet it uses audio to let me hear how it sounds and speaking slowly to pronounce. Over a week, I had improved my speaking skills from speechless to mumbling quietly. This app is great in learning a new language, but not at speaking to people (which is my problem). When I came back to school, I decided to ask one of my friends Kenzie to help me gain confidence for my presentation. By the way, she is better than me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Therapy Dogs We always say, Dog is the best friend of human, but how many of us know the history of human canine relation and things that dogs have done for us? Maybe the one who truly loves dogs will know about these. There is no exactly record about how dogs came into our lives, but dogs have worked for human for the last ten to twenty thousand years. Although many dogs work for human, it is not ethical to treat every kind of animals as property. The animals are first independent living things, then they are workers for human. Just like human, none of the employers would treat their employees as property, because every one of us is equal. Working for someone does not mean that we are worse than anyone else. One of our misunderstanding to animals is that we always think we are better than animals mentally, but in fact, animals can feel, sense, and think more than human. • 10. My Guest Star Featured Is Sara Picklesimer Recently this week, we ve been discussing perception and how it impacts the way we communicate in our daily lives. Interestingly enough, this episode of COMMPENDIUM hosted by Professor Stephen Stifano focused on this subject and its attributes. Our guest star featured is Sara Picklesimer, a University of Louisville graduate and now currently a doctoral student at the University of Connecticut in the field of communication. She was born in Pinesville, Kentucky, and started off as a biology major before realizing her passion was communication after taking her first public speaking course. Despite being a shy and reserved individual, Ms. Picklesimer found that she actually enjoyed and was surprisingly good at this field. She now teaches a gender and communication course here at the University of Connecticut, which ties in gender through music and a variety of other aspects in relation to communication. She gives us her expert lecture on two primary topics related to perception: thin slicing and the impact and effect of gender on the ways in which we communicate. Professor Stifano mentioned some of the foundations of perception that we have discussed in our lecture, including selective attention and perceptual filters. The other aspects revealed in this podcast are thin slicing and gender. All of these elements tie into each other in terms of communicating effectively and making decisions, and what make up perception. We learned that perception is selecting, organizing, and ... • 11. The Federal Reserve System Essay The Federal Reserve System Even before the creation of the Federal Reserve, banks were used by the public just as we use them today. Deposits were made into savings accounts. Loans were taken out to mortgage a home or finance a new business. Banknotes were issued and spent when the public borrowed from the banks. Borrowers spent these banknotes just as paper money is spent today. These bank notes were valued as money since they were backed by the promise that they would be exchanged on demand for either gold or silver. There was the occasionally belief on behalf of the public that banks would not be able to, or outright refuse to honor their banknotes. This fear, if held by enough of a community, could lead to a run on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These actions led to the fall in prices of securities. Loans were liquidated and borrowing from banks and other lenders became difficult. Interest rates would rise rapidly and sharply. This type of financial hardship led to the liquidation of bank credit. Over a long enough span, this liquidation would lead to money crises (Federal Reserve System 5th ed pp. 10 11). These periods of financial panics along with the inelastic money supply had long beleaguered the country. Bank failures, business bankruptcies, and unstable economic development were results of the lack of a central banking system (Federal Reserve System 8th ed. pp. 6 7). The Panic of 1907 was a bank run of epic proportions that exacerbated the problem. Depositors withdrew their savings from the second and third largest banks in the country. These banks were not able to generate enough funds to cover the demand and subsequently closed their doors. Their closings rapidly spread fear across the country leading to one of the largest runs on the banks the nation had ever witnessed (Schlesinger pp. 41). Fortunately, J.P. • 14. A Dream Deferred The poetry of Langston Hughes, the poet laureate of Harlem, is an effective commentary on the condition of blacks in America during the 20th Century. Hughes places particular emphasis on Harlem, a black area in New York that became a destination of many hopeful blacks in the first half of the 1900Гs. In much of Hughes poetry, a theme that runs throughout is that of a dream deferred. The recurrence of a dream deferred in several Hughes poems paints a clear picture of the disappointment and dismay that blacks in America faced in Harlem. Furthermore, as each poem develops, so does the feeling behind a dream deferred, growing more serious and even angry with each new stanza. br br To understand Hughes idea of the dream deferred, one... The poem changes moods with the lines I ve seen them come dark/ out of Penn Station / but the trains are late. / The gates are open / Yet there re bars / at each gate. The addition of the blunt question, What happens / to a dream deferred? maintains this understanding: this is the dream deferred, and this is what the people were experiencing. The question is harsh and unyielding, and its position in the poem creates a feeling of seriousness. Another Hughes poem, Same in Blues, attempts to establish further the idea of a dream deferred, incorporating a type of dialogue between characters to explain the components of a dream deferred, adding an element of anger to the end. The first stanza has a woman telling her man that she has to keep moving, followed by the lines, There s a certain / amount of traveling / in a dream deferred. This method continues through four stanzas, where peopl converse, and a new component is introduced: a certain amount of nothing, a certain amount of impotence. • 20. Unemployment On The Us Economy Essay Name: Instructor: Subject: Date: Unemployment in US economy The unemployment turnover view has a strong base on the contemporary thinking about unemployment in the entire United States. Joblessness or unemployment takes place when an individual searches for another new job and devotes most of time searching for another job. Moreover, unemployment comes into being if an individual goes in search of a new employment after being out of labor force for a long time. The individuals in search of employment get employed in monthly duration in a range of 10% to 40%. The unemployment varies directly with separation rate and varies indirectly with the rate of searching for a job. For a long time, labor market students have believed that the time of acute rise in unemployment or recession were due to increased rates of separation from jobs and decreased rates of finding jobs. From this perspective, the period of recession starts by the trend of layoffs. The trends of layoffs are mainly done in industries of durable goods. As labor market gets crowded with those seeking for employment, the rate of finding jobs decreases and the after unemployment duration rises. In contrary, recent research and data have disapproved this argument. The new perspective views separations as to have no contribution to the increased problems of unemployment during the period of recession. In this speech, he urged racial cooperation along with acceptance of social segregation as a price to pay in order to receive education and economic security. The literature on sexual harassment generally characterizes it as an abuse of either role or sexual power. From the cases Goodman (1991) mentions in her report, it can be noted that for men, power comes from official authority, and they view sexual harassers as principally managers and supervisors. The results of combustion include heat and exhaust gases. These exhaust gases, in addition to cost, make fuel injectionsystems more important today than ever. The International Maritime Organization s Marine Pollution Prevention annex VI has established new regulations for nitric oxides, and sulfur oxide emissions which are the by products of fuel combustion. Electronic fuel injection systems play a important role in the reduction of these emissions by improving the efficiency of fuel combustion. The main function of the fuel oil injection system is to provide the right amount of fuel at the right time. In order for fuel injection systems to work, there must be a means of measuring the fuel supply and a way to time the delivery and atomization of the fuel. This paper was completed in order to examine and compare two types of electronically controlled fuel injection systems, mechanically driven injection and electronic injection. The two types of systems we researched were the Sulzer RTA Series and the Sulzer RT Flex. Wartsila RTA Series The Sulzer RTA engine was a low speed, two stroke crosshead diesel engine and have five to eight cylinders. These engines were designed for tankers and bulk carriers between 20,000 and 30,000 total ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why can the Central tower supervise the inmates while the inmates cannot supervise others? Simply because the central tower has the power, for the inmates to be able to observe each other in the same manner would either be inconsequential, or unjust. Foucault says that knowledge and power are deeply intertwined and that both can be used to produce the other via observation, or control. • 38. Arthur Dimmesdale And Double Life In Hawthorne By... Isn t it remarkable how Arthur Dimmesdale manages to somehow, for seven years, keep his private life separate from his public one? In regards to Arthur s behavior, Hawthorne states, No man, for a considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude without getting bewildered as to which may be true. To restate Hawthorne s quote: no one can be true to him or herself, while lying to everyone because soon enough one will confuse the act with reality. Having a Dimmesdale s style of living results in living a double life, plenty of penance, and self damage affecting loved ones. First off, when someone walks around with two faces, he or she will begin to live with two distinct lives as well. For example, Dimmesdale is seen as the greatest saint in the Puritan community, but he is secretly holding onto an unrepented sin. His humanly desires get the best of him when he commits adultery with Hester Prynne and hence produces an elf child named Pearl. The sinner is put on a pedestal and adored by his congregation in broad daylight. On the other hand, he is self convicted through severe physical and mental reprimanding in the middle of the night. In the novel, Hawthorne explains, In Mr. Dimmesdale s secret closet, under lock and key, there was a bloody scourge...he kept his vigils... until his knees trembled beneath him...sometimes in utter darkness...his brain often reeled and visions seemed to flit before him... I could not understand how this had occurred. It had been a fairly quiet day at the station until I had received a phone call from a distressed mother, pleading for us to help. Her voice was hard to understand as she was crying so hard. I traced the call to a small village just on the edge of Brighton, called Linden where a Miss Hutton lived. I had not any idea that my daughter had just been murdered . Murdered you say . She was still sulking as she said yes Did you see the murderer? I asked. Since 1950 s many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia. The atmosphere and ocean have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen. Additionally most of these climate changes are due to very small variations in Earth s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives. Earth orbiting satellites and other technological advances have enabled scientists to see the big picture, collecting many different types of information about our planet and its climate on a global scale. This body of data, collected over many years, reveals the signals of a changing climate. The signal of climate change include rise of sea level, surface temperature rise ,glacier retreats, shrinking ice sheets, warming of ocean ,declining artic sea ice ,increase in Antarctic sea ice ,increase in extreme events ,decrease in the amount of snow of snow and ice ,increase in concentration of CHGS.Each indicator described below has been extensively studied over the past several decades, and was captured from many different data sets and technologies. Sonnet Analysis Reclaiming the Sonnet: Cummings and Millay s Contemporary Use of the Classical Poetic Form Fourteen lines, iambic pentameter, rhyme scheme the classical form of the sonnet has been employed by poets since the thirteenth century. Whether the Italian Petrarchan, the English Shakespearean or other variations on the quatorzain, some of the most widely read poets have risen to fame as sonneteers. Typically sonnets address romantic love or lust, but occasionally poets will lyrically meditate on nature, spirituality or other universal aspects of the human condition; however, modern poets have broken from the traditional sonnet form and subject matter to put a contemporary twist on the popular fourteen line model. Cummings points out the absurdity of extreme patriotism and the dangers accompanying glorified militarism with a speaker who praises his nation s violent efforts with the romantic rhetoric of love poetry. In addition to the heightened romantic language of the love poem, occasionally sonneteers will also utilize capitalization to convey a specific emotion regarding the poem s subject. For example, in his popular 116th and 18th sonnets, respectively, Shakespeare plays with capitalization in several lines, including Love s not Time s fool and Nor shall Death brag. When it comes to the subject of social class, this story reminded me of just about every other book we ve read this semester, in the way they decided to depict the lower class. Both Holmes and Doyle come from a very privileged and educated background, and had a very bad attitude towards anyone from even a slightly lower class, even though they relied on the lower classes to do a lot of things for them. They treated the lower classed people as second class citizens and it really speaks to the time period. For some reason all of our stories have read include upper middle class people who seemed perfect normal on the outside, but had some really weird supernatural or crazy thing happen. Stapleton, being a distant cousin of Sir Henry, has his eye on securing the Baskerville estate for himself, and created all this mess for his selfish benefit: requiring Holmes to deal with not just the physical threat to the Baskerville heir, but also debunk all the fear surrounding the hound. William Goldman wanted Westley to survive and get revenge on Prince Humperdinck, but when his dad tells him that doesn t happen he gets upset. The main reason he got upset is because it isn t what he wanted to happen in the story. He wanted the good guy to survive and defeat the bad guy, but when his dad tells him that the bad guy defeats the good guy he doesn t like it. Therefore this leads me to thinking that there is value in telling sad stories to kids. It teaches them that there isn t always a good ending in stories. In this case, they can learn how to overcome these sad events, so they can be prepared for anything in the future. Everyone needs to know how to overcome disappointing moments in life.
