2. Comparing Learning Environments Paper
Comparing Learning Environments Molly Millard Walden University Comparing
Learning Environments The purpose of this paper is to discuss the similarities,
differences, pros, and cons between face to face classrooms, distance learning, and
hybrid environments. The role of the instructor and student both change depending on
the learning style chosen. Some are better for some students, and others are best due
to time restrictions or the material being taught. There is not one strategy that will
work for every class, each should be selected specifically for the environment and to
fit the student s needs. Similarities The three different learning environments studied
have a few similarities. Each type has some form of classroom, an instructor
imparting the subject material to the learner, subject material, and expectation of the
student will successfully learn the material. Roles and Responsibilities The roles and
responsibilities of the teacher in each environment change depending on the
environment. In the traditional classroom, the teacher acts as an authoritative figure
that provided the instruction to the learners (Haynes, 2015). The instructor in the face
to face environment controls the resources, the order of learning, and time spent in
the classroom.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional face to face classroom fosters a relationship between the students and
teacher with their direct contact and interactions (Banna, 2014). This setting also
provides for ease of communications, ease in completing group activities, and for the
teacher to observe the student practicing the new skills. The information becomes
richer because, the student feels the entire experience, not just hearing and seeing the
material presented to them (Banna, 2014). The teacher can adapt their teaching style
at that any moment if they see issues by how the student reacts during the class,
which provides better results (Guest Contributor,

The risks of working with other students
Some assessment tasks are explicitly designed for group work, and it will be made
clear that a group answer is expected from you. All other tasks are intended as an
assessment of your individual comprehension and performance, and group answers
are not permitted. In individually assessed forms of assessment your work must be
different from that of every other student. Plagiarism can occur in assignments and
any examination where the questions are issued to students in advance. In both cases
it is possible for you to ask other people about how best to answer the questions or
complete the necessary tasks
You should be aware that different modules and subjects may have different
requirements. In some subjects, answers to questions may, for example, require
every student on a module to employ or refer to the same diagram(s), concepts and
the like in order to construct an acceptable answer. You should note, however, that
even in these circumstances your explanations of what the diagrams mean, and any
other writing referring to any common diagrams and concepts should all be in your
own words. Moreover, the situation may be very different on other modules, where
the submission of work that has a very similar structure, or the use of very similar
materials such as concepts, diagrams, quotations and the like, to that of another
student, may lead to you being accused of

REI is an acronym Recreational Equipment Inc. This is an American retail and free
services corporation that aims at providing fun to the citizens of America at large. It
is one of the best service providers when it comes to hiking, camping, sporting and
other traveling equipment.
The U.S economy is growing rapidly and therefore it has affect any business
organization of a firm. The current economic state affects the retail services of REI in
the following ways. The U.S. Economy has truly possessed the capacity to mitigate
the effect of downturns in local retail buyer spending. This is because of substantial
exchange with outside countries. The consequence of this is retailers are
encountering noteworthy decreases in deals because of individuals taking care of on
their outgoings and furrowing into their properties or somewhere else, consequently
the economy withstands a lot of challenges while trying to maintain its position
(Mook, Quarter, Armstrong, Whitman, 2015). Therefore, customers in the US have
reduced the rate at which they purchase or search for REI services since they are a
bit expensive. It is obvious that the company will have to cope with some changes.

5. Prejudice Is Not A Good Thing
Wayne W. Dyer once said, Judgments prevent us from seeing the good that lies
beyond appearances. Everyone is guilty of judging someone based on how they
look or where they come from, before getting to know them first. Not saying that it s
a good thing, but we all do it. What most definitely isn t a good thing is being
prejudiceagainst certain types of people. Being an extremely prejudice person isn t
healthy for you, or the people around you. The definition of prejudice is: A
preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Being
prejudice literally means prejudging someone without any actual facts. If you judge
someone, or a group of people, you ll never be able to see them in a different way. In

6. Augustus Caesar Biography
Augustus Caesar (63 BCE 14 CE) was the name of the first and, by all accounts,
greatest emperor of Rome. Augustus was born Gaius Octavius Thurinus on
September 23, 63 BCE. He was adopted by his great uncle Julius Caesar in 44 BCE,
and then took the name Gaius Julius Caesar. Originally called Gaius Octavius, he
changed his name to Gaius Julius CaesarOctavian, upon being adopted by his great
uncle. Seventeen years later, the Senate awarded him with the name Augustus,
meaning Revered One. Augustus came from a prosperous family that had long
been settled at Velletri, southeast of Rome. Augustus married three times, although
his first union, to Mark Antony s stepdaughter Clodia Pulchra, was
unconsummated. His second wife, Scribonia, who had his only child, Julia the
Elder. He divorced in 39 B.C. to marry Livia Drusilla, who had two sons, by her
first husband. The family tree became more complicated after Augustus had his
stepson Tiberius briefly marry his daughter, and then adopted Tiberius outright as
son and successor in A.D. 4. Augustus Caesar died in A.D. 14, his empire secured
and at peace. His reported last words were twofold: to his subjects he said, I found
Rome of clay; I leave it to you of marble, but to the friends who had stayed with him
in his rise to power he added, Have I played the part well? Then applaud me as I
exit. Soon after that acknowledgement of human frailty, the Roman Senate officially
declared their departed emperor, like Julius Caesar before

Introduction
My internship is at the Richland County Public Defender s Office and I work
directly with two juvenile defense attorneys. My office is at the Richland County
Judicial Center. This position is very new and I am the second person to have this
internship at USC, so defining my position is very complex. I do not have an on site
social work supervisor to turn to when I have questions, so, I have to figure out a
lot of things on my own. Being that I work directly with the attorneys, a lot of
things I see on the daily are on the legal side and not the social worker side per se.
However, the attorneys involve me in the entire process when working with each
client to provide a social work perspective to better help the clients and increase the
quality of their services. Some of my duties involves researching client information,
searching for services and resources for the clients and families, examining IEPs for
the attorney and clients, visiting clients while they are in secure locations, attending
interagency staffing for clients, advocating for clients and the services they need, and
many more tasks. Every day is different and provides multiple opportunities to meet
with other professionals and clients.

10. Jamaica Kincaid Girl Essay
Since the beginning of mankind, oppression has been a major obstacle for women to
overcome. In Girl, Jamaica Kincaid illustrates through written word the struggle
women go through due to the expectations set for them. While there is female
oppression of different forms, Jamaica Kincaid s Girl is a resemblance of the
oppression she felt during her childhood on the small and remote island nation of
Antigua.
In its most basic form, Girl vividly paints a literary picture depicting the way an old
fashioned wife is supposed to be in the eyes of her male patriarch. The piece by
Kincaid seemingly consists of a single string of instructions and commands from a
motherly figure to a daughter. The instructions could be described as a mother
teaching a daughter how to properly do a women s chore or how to keep her
husband happy. For example, the motherly figure states, this is how to sew on a ...

Antigua, the British government had reign. As a result of this movement of
imperialism, Antiguan musicians adopted a West Indian form of short song known
as benna. Benna was a short hymn that often never went with musical instruments.
Its main purpose was to speak about culturally controversial topics such as
sexuality, drugs, and feminism as well as political corruption. As a result of the
controversial lyrics, many Antiguans were jailed for writing benna. While benna
was not specific to Jamaica Kincaid, it does show one form of oppression she faced

By...
No one can escape death. It s one of so few unavoidable certainties in our lives and
has held an important position in every human culture since time immemorial. Of
course, this position has is different from culture to culture, and shifts over time. This
is particularly evident in western culture. The shift is discussed at length in two
essays: Behind the Formaldehyde Curtain by Jessica Mitford, and The Fear of Dying
by Elisabeth KГјbler Ross. Both explore different aspects of these themes Mitford s
essay being deconstruction of a the uniquely North American process of embalming,
and KГјbler Ross being an indictment of the clinical depersonalization of
contemporary western attitudes toward death. Each utilize many different tools as
writers, such as rhetorical modes. Rhetorical modes they share are exemplification,
description, and compare and contrast.
Exemplification is rhetorical mode in which a writer will illustrate their point by
providing multiple pieces of evidence that support their thesis. KГјbler Ross opening
paragraph is written entirely in the exemplification rhetorical mode. She lists the
ways many ancient cultures treat corpses: they re bad; something to be feared.
Hebrews regarded dead bodies as unclean; Native Americans shot arrows into the air
to keep evil spirits away when a person died. (KГјbler Ross, 1969, Pg 206) These
examples serve to provide evidence as to how modern willful blindness to the fact of
death are nothing new, that fear of death
12. The Themes of Dostoyevsky
The Themes of Dostoyevsky Fyodor Dostoyevsky, born in 1821, would become one
of the greatest writers in Russian literature. Fyodor received an education in
engineering in St. Petersburg, but decided to follow a literary career. He was a person
who wrote how they felt about certain topics, and felt that everyone should know
about the government. Dostoyevsky joined the underground group, the Petrashevsky
circle, the to bring out the truth in these books, which were forbidden in the public.
Through these themes, Dostoyevsky wrote about many topics. Dostoyevsky achieved
success with Notes from Underground, a psychological study of a spiritual and
intellectual misfit. Dostoyevsky s greatest success came with four novels that rank...

Even when he was deprived of liberty, Dostoyevsky came to know the Russian
people, telling about them after prison in Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, and a
Raw Youth (Vaghin 938). The Russians in the camp with Dostoyevsky were like
him in a religious sense because they kept their faith deep in their hearts. They
knew how to live through the pain and suffering of the camps, and knew how to
survive and maintain the moral standards without losing their sanity (Vaghin 938).
To maintain that same level of moral uprightness in the camps was very difficult,
because they knew they were going to be in there for a prolonged period of time.
Showing sensitivity in his poetry from his youth and two decades of his life spent
behind barbed wire The Idiot was his best work done in sensitivity. Dostoyevsky s
characters were so diverse from the people he met in the camps. Not one person
was like another, thus another reference to God in making all his creatures in his
image and likeness (Vaghin 940). In 1847, Dostoyevsky joined the Petrashevsky
circle, a group of socialists who met to read and discuss political and economic
books banned by the government. In 1849, police arrested the members of the
circle. Dostoyevsky and several others were condemned to death by a firing squad.
By order of the czar, they were pardoned

I think all coding is important, but since I have to choose between level of
specificity and impending or threatened conditions. I would say level of specificity
is more important. Level of specificity refers to the amount of detail included in the
code and is important in diagnosis coding. Mrs. Pavey mention we can t code
impending or threatened instead code the signs and symptoms. In order to prove
medical necessity and get reimbursement I will say both are important. I think all
topics are relevant to learn coding. We need to learn it all if we are going to be coding.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. Eleanor

people have put complete trust in dreams, and also inspire others to do so as well.
But given different scenarios, is trusting dreams always the right direction? Do
people always strive to achieve these so called dreams, or are there some factors that
stop them from becoming what their hearts desire? Many people, including Willy

Capote wrote about real people and those real people have to live with the backlash
that Capote s work brewed up through its years of fame. The Clutters, their friends,
the agents, and even the murderers were all real people with real feelings, not a
character in a book. In a true fiction, a writer can twist and mold their characters into
whoever they like. They can make things up about them without consequences
because they aren t real. However, Capotedidn t write a fictionnovel; he wrote a

His efforts to keep his retelling of the case interesting overrode, if not completely

masked with false character qualities in order for it to be interesting; the situation
of the Clutter murder was interesting enough. Capote didn t need to write that
Bobby ran to the Clutter house instead of driving, like what Bobby really did the
day of the murders (Source A). Sure, it overemphasized Bobby s reaction to create
the scene more emotional, but at what cost? That discrepancy will stick with Bobby
for the rest of his life and haunt him. Some readers, like Tucker Shaw, will argue that
because In Cold Blood was so brilliantly constructed, it shouldn t be thrown in the
trash (Source C). However, the amount of negative fictionalization in his novel is
too much to ignore, especially since he had every opportunity to keep it on point.
He landed all the necessary interviews, excluding the Clutters obviously, but
neglected to take notes because he claimed that he could memorize what people
said (Source B). Would taking notes be so hard? It never hurts to have a backup
plan in case he forgot any small details, especially when he had many interview and
documents to read at once. Cases like this cast Capote s reliability into

ideology of a new ethnically blended identity to a gender blended identity which
contests the attachment of roles on both a gender conscious, an ethnic conscious and
the majority world culture.
The Mexican American community supports the subservient female role in society
portraying them as docile, reliant and obedient to their male accompaniment. The
domestic household utility of Mexican American woman is symbolized in a variety
of household objects including attire that capitulate their gender representation. For
example, as a child, Ermila recognizes her grandmother and female compassion by
her apron, an article of clothing symbolizing servitude. When she spots her without
the apron, she can hardly recognize her without the symbolic article of clothing. In

17. Freud s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
The lifespan perspective is crucial for understanding human development. There
are many different perspectives on the lifespan and the lifespan has been broken
down in many different ways. A variety of scholars and theorists have proposed
unique perspectives on lifespan. Sigmund Freud s theory of psychosocial
development considered five lifespan stages; oral, anal, phallic, latency, and
genital (Rathus, 2014). Erik Erikson expanded Freud s theory with a psychosocial
perspective on development and considered the lifespan to consist of eight stages.
He viewed and labeled these stages in terms of crises that individuals are faced
with at each stage in their life. This is an important perspective because it indicates
that all aspects of our lives are related and that the person we are today is a direct
result of what we experienced earlier in our lives. Other sources view the lifespan as
having nine stages broken into numeric age categories (Annenberg Foundation,
2015). From a leisure perspective, five lifespan stages are considered (Godbey,
2008). These lifespan perspectives exclude the prenatal stage. From an overall human
developmentviewpoint, I think it is important to include the prenatal stage and I
would break the lifespan down into the same eight stages identified by Rathus (2014).
In Rathus (2014) text, eight lifespan stages are identified; prenatal, infancy, early
childhood, middle childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood, and

18. Teaching Strategies When Dealing With The Adolescent
Brain.
Teaching Strategies when dealing with the adolescent brain
The adolescent brain is still in the development process and will therefore require
compatible strategies for learning. Research has shown that the brain undergoes a
period of increased production of gray matter during early adolescence. Nerve
impulses are generated by the gray matter which handles processing of the brain s
information, while white matter transfers brain information from one lobe to another
and then out to the spinal cord. The myelin sheath, a fatty layer that wraps around the
neuron s axon assists this transmission of nerve impulses. Only white matter has a
myelin sheath; the sheath allows impulses to travel faster and more efficiently;

Learning is a process of building neural networks in the brain, through concrete
experiences, symbolic and abstract learning. A concrete experience is one where a
young person can smell, hear, touch, and see the experience such as petting a dog.
Seeing a dog in a book and looking at pictures of dogs is a symbolic experience.
Then, at some point, young people will start to make generalizations about types of
dogs they have never seen, or experienced, this is abstract thinking. The most
important of the three is the concrete experience because without it the other two will
have little or no meaning. Abstract thought does not completely develop until late
adolescence; therefore, the most effective teaching styles encompass concrete
experiences for adolescences.
Important Facts
A young adolescent brain can hold 7 pieces of information, plus or minus two items
in working memory. Show them that the information fits together, and in a
meaningful way. Short term memory stores approximately 7 items of information for
30 seconds unless there are strategies in place to remember the items. Working
memory stores approximately seven items for 20 to 30 minutes, if not determined as
meaningful the information will be lost and not stored in long term memory.
Teachers can use systems such as rhyme, rhythm, rap, chunking, storytelling, and
mnemonics as
19. Examples Of Irony In The Plague
The main irony in The Plague is the way Camus treats freedom throughout the
book. The people of Oran become prisoners of the plague and the whole city
becomes quarantined by the Prefect when death tolls hit 30 people a day. It can be
questioned whether they were really free before the plague, considering the way
they lived out their lives from day to day. Every day the populace would wake up
work and then gamble in the evenings and a lot of people in Orantake their loved ones
for granted. Only when the plaguebecomes really bad and people start to die or are
ultimately separated by quarantine from their friends, lovers and families do they
realize how they should have loved and cared for them.

Camus was an atheist and didn t believe that death, suffering, and human existence
has any real rational meaning. Since Camus didn t believe in God or the devil,
Camus saw humans as mortals, living under a crazy and completely absurd death
sentence. However, Camus did believe that people are capable of giving their lives
meaning hence when the people of Oran were starting to give up, they banded
together and worked to end the death and suffering of those that have been infected
or affected by the plague. Although Camus was an atheist, in The Plague religion
can be found in the book coming from the Jesuit priest, Father Paneloux. He
preached that this was God s way of separating the good from the bad, saying that
this only happened because God s compassion for the evil doing in the town ran
out and it was time for the people there to realize the real meaning behind their
lives. (Malcolm 26) Paneloux basically believed that the plague was for the good of
the townspeople. Although this is here, Father Paneloux is the only character with

Sultan Selim I, and his first actions to take administrative control. Г‡elebi also
describes the earnings of a couple different administrative positions such as the

each of these positions. This detailed description differs from Г‡elebi s previous
story telling style of his previous adventures. This reflects his more mature age and
the seriousness of the reason for his journey to Jerusalem. Г‡elebi also describes the
layout of the fortress in exact detail, measuring out distances in paces. This style of

The Effects of Violence in the Media

Abstract
Many would say that violence in the media is the key problem in society today.
However, an analysis of violence in the media reveals that violence does create a
more aggressive world, but that is not the only plausible explanation. When violence
is watched or participated in, the viewer s heart rate and blood pressure increase and
they have difficulty creating empathy for the others; they are more apt to act out that
anger. Others would argue that statistically violence has decreased in the world, and
that the violent behavior that is demonstrated by a few does not represent the whole
of society. It is with this reason that many say that there should be stricter ratings on
video games and movies, and parents should be better educated on ways to teach their
children ways to deal with the violent content in a healthy way.
The Effects of Violence in the Media
You are what you watch! An examination of violence in the media reveals that media
violence does create a more aggressive culture. Even though violent crime has

2.Looking is active. Looking involves relationships of power, i.e. spectatorship /the

Looking at a particular image is an active process and this was certainly proved in
the text. Furthermore, looking involves different relationships of power.
Spectatorship provides a deeper understanding of looking. This process is enacted in
most interactive, multimodal, and relational fields. To understand spectatorship, it is
important to understand the concept of the gaze. Different visual theorists to
emphasize the embeddedness of the gaze have used the term the gaze in specific
ways. The term gaze is to enter into a relational activity of looking. The concept of
the gaze plays a central role in theories of spectatorship in modernity. The concepts of

Jamba Juice has tried to capture a good portion of health conscious consumers by
providing healthy smoothies and other nutritious foods for customers on the go. Even
though there are direct competitors such as Planet Smoothie, Starbucks, Dunkin
Donuts, Panera Bread and McDonalds, Jamba Juice remains competitive by offering
its unique blend of smoothies. They are made with real fruit and 100% fruit juices
that are blended to order. They are also rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fiber.

Jamba remains a tough competitor due to its healthy menu.
Threat of Rivalry
Threat of rivalry is high as Jamba is competing against several brand name rivals that
have the ability to influence the industry. Jamba Juice is offering similar foods as the
rest of its competition, many of which are much larger, thus it tries to differentiate
itself by offering healthy alternatives to its competitor s products.
Threat of Buyers
The threat of buyers is high. Since there are many products and restaurants to choose
from, Jamba must provide a memorable and pleasant experience to its customers to
entice them to return. In addition, it must continue its marketing strategy of
informing the public of the benefits of its products in an effort to keep up its
clientele. However, Jamba Juice must ensure that marketing strategies don t become
too costly and cut into its profits.
Threat of Suppliers
The threat of suppliers is high for Jamba Juice since it depends heavily on high
quality supplies of fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the year. It had to find
distributors that were willing to flash freeze the produce and agree to store it at their
facilities until it was ready to be shipped to stores. In order to lower distribution costs,
the company must cluster future store developments.

25. Relationship Between Babylonians And Babylonians
Mesopotamia is one of the oldest civilizations. The civilization contained many city
states and Babylon is one of them. At its height, Babylon was one of the largest,
most important cities of the ancient world. It came to be understood in Akkadian as
bab ili, meaning gate of the god, also written in Sumerian as ka dingir ra, which has
the same meaning. Around 2050 2000 BC, the great kingdom of the Sumerians was
attacked by external invaders. Sumeria had been a powerful kingdom in the western
part of Asia, and it had roughly occupied the land that one day had become Babylonia

They used more than 350 signs in their writing. They used to write on soft clay
tablets by pen made of bone and bamboo. Then they baked tablets on sun shine and
kept one after another. During the reign of Hammurabi, the famous Emperor of
Babylon, education spread in the look and corner of that land.
He established many schools for the students. The Babylonian boys put emphasis on
writing, reading and Mathematics and girls were fond of song and dance. From the
ruins of a Babylonia an inspiring sentence was written on the wall of school. That
sentence was He who shall excel in tablet writing shall shine like the sun . This
shows the love of the Babylonians for education.
In ancient writings the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were first described by
Berossus, a Chaldaean priest who lived in the late 4th century BCE. In his book
Babyloniaca, written around 280 BCE, he describes the gardens and attributes them
to the great Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II. Many other Greek historians went
on to provide detailed descriptions of the gardens, citing either Berossus work, or
from accounts of other ancients.
26. Summary Of The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
In The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir questions the idea held in society that
those who live simpler lives with no foreseeable challenges are inherently content
and satisfied in their lives. Specifically, she disagrees with the idea that women
who are oppressed, and thus, due to their lack of opportunities and freedoms, must
lead lives that the patriarchal society makes available to them, are happier than the
women whose freedom brings them challenges and shortcomings. De Beauvoir
claims that we cannot assume someone is happy from what we see, and we cannot
simply assume happiness means to that person what it does to us; it is not too
clear just what the word happy really mean and still less what true values it may
mask. There is no possibility measuring the happiness of others, and it is always
easy to describe as happy the situation in which one wishes to place them, (de
Beauvoir 261). She continues to discuss this idea of seeing one as happy in the
situation the observer views as ideal, specifically the non working woman stripped
of her rights, whose lack of purpose and duties is seen as peaceful happiness, in
particular those who are condemned to stagnation are often pronounced happy on
the pretext that happiness consists in being at rest, (de Beauvoir 261). This is not to
say a woman s happiness cannot be found being a housewife, but one cannot assume
what will bring women joy and fulfillment, because all people are different with
varying wants and needs. Women need all the opportunities available and full
liberation in order to be able to find their happiness, if it can be found. Sara Ahmed
says, Feminismdoes not guarantee what we will find through this expansion of
bodily horizons. It simply opens up the places where we can look, (Ahmed 70).
Ahmed goes on to explain how happiness may not even be a healthy goal, as often
women are expected to give up much in order to be able to find a happiness that is
likely unachievable. Ahmed also discusses the 2002 film The Hours, which tells the
stories of three women living in different eras all struggling with their happiness in
their vastly different lives. All three women experience other people in their lives
telling them that they should be happy

Measles disease: Epidemiology
Measles is a very infectious viral disease caused by the measles virus, and it is most
common in children. Its main features include maculopapular rash, fever (more than

airborne, spreading through droplets of the secretions of the nose throat and mouth
of an infected person. It develops in more than 90 percent of susceptible 10 12 days
after exposure to a measles virus (Caserta, 2014)). The World Health Organization
specifies that measles should be diagnosed in the Laboratories with the presence of

percent of the inpatients in the in the Pediatric Department and that 47.8 percent are

report went further to state that 77.9 percent of the cases did not receive measles
vaccine as against 22.9 that had the vaccinations. More cases were reported in the dry
season than in the wet season. The author observed the two leading complications as
a result of measles infection were bronchopneumonia (55.1%) and diarrhea with

through immunization with measles vaccine. According to World Health

population immunity of at least 95% with measles

Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) is a pathogen commonly
associated with localized intestinal infection in humans. For its survival and
propagation as a facultative intracellular pathogen, this Gram negative bacterium has
developed a variety of ways to manipulate host cell processes (Malik Kale et al.
2011). Besides phagocytic internalization (by, e.g., macrophages, neutrophils, or
dendritic cells), Salmonellainfection is characterized by the bacterial induced uptake
of the pathogen into non phagocytic enterocytes of intestinal epithelium (Perrett Zhou
2013).

This mechanism of defense is called colonization resistance (Sekirov et al. 2010).
Resident microbiota and incoming pathogens compete for resources in the intestine.
In a healthy intestine, normal microflora establishes mutually beneficial relations
with intestinal mucosa and effectively eliminates pathogens. Inflammatory host
responses triggered by virulence factors of S. Typhimurium can alter conditions in the
intestine and shift the competition between protective microbiota and the incoming
pathogen, which is able to survive in and profit from the altered niche (Stecher et al.

Often times reactions may not finish to completion or reactants may be too impure
so percent yields are necessary to calculate the amount of product produced. A
percent yield can be calculated by the amount of product that was actually
produced divided by the expected amount of product also known as the theoretical
yield. Our percent yield for N acetyl anthranilic acid was 84.61%. This is a good
percent yield. This signifies that our reaction occurred and our reactants were
converted to our desired product. Even though this is a good percent yield of N
acetyl anthranilic acid we could have improved our percent yield by refluxing our
solution for longer as well as making sure our reflux was hot enough. There were
instances where our watch glass came off during the reflux so this could have made
us lose some product through evaporation. Another way to improve our percent yield
would have been by making sure that we added the methanol slowly so as to not lose
a lot of product when washing and drying the product on the Buchner

For me, this story begged the question: if you have nothing, but share that feeling of
nothingness with many others, does it make it something? I felt that this story

United States government federal, state, and local plays a significant role in
developing and delivering health care policies. Today s issues associated with
health policy stem from individual health, the overall health of the country, and
economic problems associated with health care (Rosenbaum, 2011). Being a nurse
it is important to understand the legislative process, and how political health

legislative process, and current political issues affecting health care today. Part 1
Legislative Process The legislative process starts first with an idea. This idea might
be from the public, or from government officials. This idea is then turned into a
bill, and introduced by a representative to a committee for review. The bill is given
a number and is referred to the appropriate committee. If the committee decides the
bill should go on further in the process then it continues to a hearing to be voted

review. If the bill should pass it is then brought to the House or Senate for further
review. The bill must be voted by the simple majority (218 of 435) , and if this
occurs it is moved onto the Senate. In the Senate, the bill is assigned to another

Leading by example is the most effective way to produce results. The middle
managers in most companies are more approachable than top management; therefore
it is imperative that middle managers are on board with the new vision of the
company and display this in a positive way. While the merger is occurring it is
essential to build a team atmosphere, full of open communication, honesty, and
teamwork. Each employee from both companies should feel as though their
positions is important, and their cooperation is essential to the success of the
forming company. Once the merger is complete, it is all about the new culture,
staying visible, approachable, and communicating information early and often

important to focus on patient care. There will be changes implemented at every
phase of the merger, but it is important not let misunderstandings, or issues within
the staff affect the quality of care given to the patients. Once the merger has been

The geographical advantages of Eurasia allowed civilizations to develop productive
agriculture, and domesticated animals as a result the Europeans had food surplus,
developed immunity to epidemic diseases, and forged steel. These inherited
advantages allowed them to decimate other civilizations and appropriate their
resources making them even more powerful.
Agriculture is only one of the many contributes to where we are today. Geographic
location affects agriculture because each specific crop has needs, if you can t meet
those needs, then you can t grow the crops. Some plants need super wet land and
some need super dry land ,let s say you live in Papua New Guinea they live closer
the the equator so they have the same weather year round. So if you re constantly
getting the same amount of sunlight all year then you ll only be able to grow the
same crops over and over again. Papua New Guinea had sago, to get sago people
there would have to cut down the sago tree, cut the sago tree in half and collect the
sago inside. With sago you have to have a wet climate, the sago tree takes three or
four days to prepare. Sago does not last long after it is prepared, sago is low in
protein and uses more calories then it gives. But Fertile Crescent on the other hand
live farther from the equator, so they end up getting four seasons while rotating
around the sun.Which leads to an advantage in almost everything. A change in
weather four times a year gives them a chance to plant and grow
39. Is Justified True Belief Knowledge Edmund Gettier
In his 1963 article Is Justified True Belief Knowledge? , Edmund Gettier pointed out
the fault in the traditional definition of knowledge and presented two
counterexamples. The problem created by the two counterexamples is called the
Gettier problem. In detail, the Gettier problem is whether a true beliefbased on invalid
reasons counts as knowledge. My own Gettier counterexample is as follows. One
day, my dad and I went to Costco Gas Station and there were already a lot of cars
waiting for gasoline filling. So we queued in the last. When we were the next one to
use the pump, there were two cars using the pumps, with one in the front and the
other following it. My dad then asked me, of the two cars in front of us, which one

The belief cannot be accidentally true. Thus, what qualifies a true belief as
knowledge is its reliable linkage to the facts that make the belief true. A belief
must not only be true but also track the facts . By tracking the facts , we mean it
satisfy the variation and adherence conditions. The variation condition is that if p
were not true, then S would not believe that p. The adherence condition is that if p
were, contrary to fact, true, then S would believe that p. Nozick s account of
knowledge is as the following: S knows that P if and only if P is true, S believes
that P, and S s belief is reliably true. The third condition is consisted of variation
and adherence conditions. He passes each Gettier case to the four conditions to see
which condition does not satisfy. If a case fails any of the four conditions, then it
is not a knowledge and the test does not need to continue any more. Gettier cases
usually fail the variation condition as we can see from Gettier s original example
and the Fake Barn case. In Gettier s original example, if we assume it were false
that the man who will get the job has 10 coins in his pocket, then Smith would still
believe that the man who will get the job has 10 coins in his pocket because the
boss would still say that Jones gets the job. Similarly, in the Fake Barn case, if we

2. What are the main character s leadership strengths (if any) and why? What are the
main character s leadership weaknesses (if any) and why?
In my opinion, coach Boone had many leadership strengths: He had his goal to
make the team a winning team, and to do that he knew he would have to overcome
many obstacles, to make the players a real team and a group of players.
To do that, he needed the capacity to motivate the team, to push them harder to
achieve the goals, to make them expect more from themselves and their teammates.
For me, one of the best moments that showed coach Boone was a very good leader
was when he Boone woke up all the players in the evening and made them run with
him. He didn t just order them to do something he knew was difficult. He did it with
them. He had self sacrificed for the team. Coach Yoast, went to tell him that he was
pushing them too hard, but Boone knew exactly what he was doing. When he
stopped the running, and gave the speech about the differences and what that had as
result, I think that speech changed the attitude between the players. That speech
inspired them to want to be more, to want to grow as a group. And in the next game,
after the Capitan of the team took the first step, they finally started to be a united
team.

Literature Review
The Debate
There are a million adults who cannot read, one in six Londoners is functionally
illiterate and people who cannot read or write are excluded from opportunities and
may eventually become alienated and turn to crime (Johnson 2010, cited by Gross
2010). Gross (2010) expresses her concern and believes it is not where the children
live, it is how they were taught to read and how they were properly motivated to
learn to read. She endorses the synthetic systematic phonics approach as opposed to
that of the whole word approach and believes we must place our focus on reading as it
is indispensable.
Phonics advocates have been arguing that in order for children to learn to read,
they need to have an explicit instruction in the rules of printed text in order to read
properly. The phonics approach has been described as bottom up as it teaches the
children to decode text and then the meaning and understanding will follow while
the whole word approach is described as top down, as the children depend on the
pictures within the book, form hypothesis and make predictions of the words with
the text of the book being read (Wren, 2003).
Gross (2010) state that children should systematically be taught to read through
phonics and not by memorising whole words ; by the late 1970 s teachers were no
longer fond of that approach as it was not working because children were still
struggling to read, it was dull and repetitive and new words were introduced at a

Fairytales tell children what they unconsciously know, that human nature is not
innately good, that conflict is real, that life is harsh before it is happy and thereby
reassure them about their own fears and their own sense of self (Tatar). Many
adults wish they had grown up in a fairytale family or childhood seeing this as idea,l
but in reality the fairytale family is very similar to our modern mixed families and
rings true with the pattern of abuse and change that so many children face in our
society. Audiences tend to overlook the abuse and neglect that Cinderella endures at

Cinderella is an abused and neglected child by a stepparent, a term in evolutionary
psychology aptly named the Cinderella Effect (Jacobs). With the prevalence of
divorce and mixed families the story of Cinderella resonates with modern
audiences of children and grownups alike who identify with growing up in an
abusive and neglectful home or the confusing state of emotions brought on by
having more than one set of parents in a mixed family. Abuse or neglect can occur
in any family regardless of whether both biological parents are raising the children
or one biological and one stepparent are present. However, evolutionary psychology
has identified a phenomenon known as the Cinderella Effect. By the year 2000
stepfamilies outnumbered traditional families of biological parents in the United
States (Rutter). When over half of all marriages end in divorce and many of those
marriages produced children, the potential for children to be raised by one or more
stepparents in their childhood rises significantly. The Cinderella effect is the theory
that children are more likely to be abused by a stepparent than their biological parent
and the acknowledgement that sometimes the evil stepparent is not just a character in
fairy tales (Jacobs). A frightening

Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging. By the looks of the sign, I had a feeling
that this place was going to be a dump. The word resortled me to believe it wasn t that
bad. The thought I alwayskept in the back of my mind was what a Hawke family
vacation was. We would always spend the least amount of money as we could, and
we would leave as soon as possible. This, to my dad, was the greatest vacation.
My dad had this great last minute idea of going to his sister s house in Steamboat
Springs for Christmas. My family is known for last minute planning. We started...

My sister and I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but I found my self drifting
off quite frequently and laying my head on my brother s shoulder. I knew that this
was going to cause havoc later because he hated when I would do that. I decided
that it would cause less controversy if I looked at a magazine. I turned on the light
and after a few minutes of reading, the light blinked once and burned out. Sleeping
seemed to be my only other option.
Finally, I saw the first sign that showed the word vacancy . This place looked
considerably nice. When my dad stepped out of the van to go check in to the hotel,
two police cars drove up with their sirens screaming and lights flashing. Dazed and
confused, I was trying to figure out what the commotion was. Then I noticed a
man lying on the side of the highway next to the curb. The two police officers got
him to his feet and helped him stagger to the back seat of the police car. He
obviously had too much to drink. With the blink of an eye, the police officers were
gone and my dad was back in the van in less than 30 seconds. Needless to say, we
were not going to stay there so we were off to the next town.
The next closest town, if one could call it a town, was State Bridge. It looked to be
an old mining town with nothing in it except for a so called resort. The lights of a
sign that said, State Bridge Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging were flickering
as if they were going to burn out. My dad
44. Boeing Company s Goals and Actions
Abstract This paper analyzes the goals and actions of Boeing by analyzing its
critical success factors as well as its strategic roadmap.
Introduction The Boeing Corporation is one of the largest manufacturers in the
world. Rivaled only by European giant Airbus in the aerospace industry, Boeingis a
leader in research, design and manufacture of commercial jet airliners, for
commercial, industrial and military customers. Despite enjoying immense success in

Steady Defense Business Growth The Boeing Company s defense business has been
growing steadily over the past few years. Revenues from the integrated defense
system grew from $27,361 million in 2003 to $30,791 million in 2005. The defense
business accounts for over 55% of the company s revenues. Continued strong
performance of this division of the Boeing Company would counter any downturn in
the commercial aircraft industry (DATAMONITOR).
Strong Growth from Developing Geographic Markets The Boeing Company has
registered strong growth in the developing markets in China, Oceania and Africa
(Boeing Frontiers, Nov. 2005). For the fiscal year 2005, revenues from China
grew by 87.9%; revenues from Oceania grew by $32; and revenues from Africa
grew 61.8% over the 2004 fiscal year. These regions represent some of the fastest
growing economies of the world. The Boeing Company s growing market share in
these regions would boost the company revenues of the future (DATAMONITOR).
Strategic Analysis and Choice
The main objective of Boeing s strategy is to analyze the commercial aircraft industry,
to understand the demand that is present, and to formulate a solution that will fulfill
that segment. Currently, there are only two major players in the global market:
Boeing and Airbus. Boeing is widely known as the free market champion, while
Airbus represents the not so free approach of the European Union s organized and
government subsidized
