challenges. Firstly, the vastness of potential essay topics related to "The Great Gatsby" by F.
Scott Fitzgerald requires careful consideration to choose one that aligns with your interests and
the parameters of the assignment. The novel delves into themes like the American Dream,

exploration.
Navigating through the plethora of existing analyses and interpretations of "The Great Gatsby"
adds another layer of complexity. With the novel being a staple in literature courses, finding a
fresh perspective or unique angle can be demanding. Ensuring that your essay contributes
something novel to the discourse while remaining grounded in the text itself is a delicate
balancing act.

Introduction And Objective Of Chapter B Unit 1 Lesson 8
Semester B Unit 1 Lesson 8
Introduction and Objective
Every story has a plot. The plot consist of an exposition, rising action, climax, falling
action and a resolution (or some call the denouement which means end. ) How the
author unfold the story plot is unique to each author. Understanding how a particular
story unfolds is important in being able to comprehend the setting, theme, tone, mood
and central ide(s) of the story.
Today s lesson objective is:
Students will be able to describe how the plot of a particular story unfolds.
A story is not labeled exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and a
resolution. However, if we know what each part of the plot is, then we know can
know if it is in the beginning of the story, the middle or the end. Breakdown what
you have read so far in The Giver analyzing what happened in the beginning and
middle so far. What parts of the story plot do you think are to come next? List some
things that make a plot exciting to you.
Open your digital notebook and describe your strategy and the reading skills you
will use to succeed in this lesson.

main characters, as well as the conflict(s) the main character goes through in the
exposition, the beginning of the story. But what happens next that is important? What

Cinderella And Donkeyskin Sparknotes
Cinderella and Donkeyskin by Charles Perrault both have the same overarching
theme of an abused girl who has been forced to grow up without a mother, who
ultimately through the help of a magical entity becomes married to a prince.
However, the roles of their prospective female protagonists and the characteristics
they portray are very different. Both fairy tales focus on the idea of good
overcoming evil, as both Cinderellaand Donkeyskin are forced to comply with the
orders of a higher authority figure, a stepmother, and an incestuous father
respectively, but they choose to rise above this oppression to find happiness.
However, the way in which Cinderella and Donkeyskin play a part in bringing about
their ultimate happiness is drastically... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, when the upcoming ball is announced, the stepsisters consult
Cinderella because of her good taste, and she willingly gives them excellent advice
and even offers to help style their hair. She toils away happily and selflessly. She is
so self sacrificing that at the end of the tale she not only forgives her stepsisters
cruelty but arranges advantageous marriages for them.
Not only is Cinderella passive and obedient to her stepmothers and stepsister, but
she also blindly follows the instructions of her fairy godmother. Regarding her fate,
Cinderella has no voice to or agency. As the stepsisters leave for the ball, Cinderella
can only [follow] them with her eyes for as long as she could before she starts to
cry (Perrault). When her fairy godmother appears, Cinderella is only able to utter
two sentences, as she was not able to speak the rest, being interrupted by her tears
and sobbing (Perrault). Not only is Cinderella incapable of action, she is also
speechless, and she cannot even voice her desire to go to the ball. Even throughout
the entire tale, for being the main character Cinderella only has five lines of dialogue,
with most of these lines demonstrating Cinderella submitting to her servitude or
expressing grief surrounding her situation. Even with the small voice she has,
Cinderella neither expresses ambition nor desire to have an active role in her fate.
After her godmother sees Cinderella sobbing, her godmother
The First Amendment Right To Freedom Of Social Media
Social media. People s daily lives revolve around social media sites such as Twitter,
Instagram, and Youtube; the growing number of social media sites and users has
increased the likeliness of these social media sites being used as news sources.
Protecting the freedom of speech on social media will spread important worldwide
news like wildfire, informing users of social media sites about current events
quickly and expands the knowledge people have on situations happening in
different countries that can t be or aren t reported by news reporters. Social media
takes up a considerable portion of people s lives. A myriad of people use social
media; this makes news stories and articles on social media sites are a convenient way
for people to obtain information about current events happening around the world.

Bob Martinez Athletic Center Architectural Analysis
Stand as one. This is the Spartan s battle cry and motto at the University of Tampa.
The University of Tampa is one of the most prominent and alluring buildings in
Downtown Tampa, Florida. Its many educational and athletic department buildings
each represent the school in their own way. However, one of the more architecturally
beautiful buildings, the Bob Martinez Athletic Center, stands out significantly from
the rest. From its historic name dedication, to its location, all the way to its
architectural design, the Bob Martinez Athletic Center is certainly one of Tampas
most well kept jewels.

Standing in front of the Athletic Center looking left to right, the many sharp
angles that make up the exterior walls are more than eviden/t. The subtle, light tan
color of the top half of building touches the brick lower half like the way water
meets oil. The windows are painted on the top half of the building to add some
shimmer as the sun blazes through. The brick half is a razor edged wave turning
corners sharper than a Nascar driver during the Sprint Cup Series. Block, brick, and
cast stone make up the exterior walls of the Center. The process includes laying
brick with mortar, painting and application of ceramic products (Condeixa et al,

center of the entryway is adorned with a glass medallion; engraved in the glass is
the Spartan logo like two lovers names engraved in their favorite tree as a beautiful

My Perspective On Supervision And Evaluation Essay
There are several assumptions or biases that influence my perspective on supervision
and evaluation. I believe that problem solving and critical thinking should be the
most emphasized aspect in education. Teachers must prepare students to be leaders,
innovators, and original thinkers in order for them to be successful in the world. I
also believe that social and emotional curriculum should have a more prominent place
in our educationsystem. Students should have strategies for dealing with these
issues that are presented throughout their education. Finally, I believe effective
teachers must develop loving, trusting relationship with students in order for
students to reach their full potential in their classroom. To me, instructional
supervision means helping teachers to continual grow and progress in their
profession. To me, this is the ultimate purpose of supervision, to help teacher be
better each day, to be more effective, and to reach more students. To do this, I
believe supervisors must build a trusting relationship with staff, be able to provide
non judgmental, constructive feedback multiple times throughout the year, be a
knowledgeable and competent resource for teachers, and allow teachers to have a
voice in building decisions. This is the role of a supervisor. In order to meet the goal
of helping teachers to be more effective, a successful supervisor must also possess a
wide array of knowledge and skills. They must be knowledgeable and well researched

The Use of Technology in New York Rescue Efforts on September Eleventh
On the eleventh of September, two planes flew into one of the most recognizable
skylines in the world. Two high jacked planes were flown into the upper floors of
One and Two World Trade Center or more commonly known as the Twin Towers
. At
9:50 that morning, Two World Tradecame thundering down to the ground and
shortly after that, One World Trade Center came crashing to the ground. With debris
covering sixteen acres of lower Manhattan, and making it difficult for rescue workers
to make it around the site, they turned to satellites, robotic cameras, and small lipstick
cameras to look in voids where humans could not reach.

Since there are so many wireless telephones is use, it made sense to pull in some of
the newer technology to try and locate victims in the WTC. Cutting edge radio
frequency sniffers from Lucent Technologies were used to try and track down
wireless phone devices. [2] Also with so many Americans stuck in airports due to the
grounding of all airplanes in American air space, MCSi and PictureTel came together
and offered free service of their videoconference equipment so people could get in
touch with loved ones. Ken Hayward reported that one insurance company used
videoconferencing to put insurance partners together and was used in emergency
planning, especially in terms of telecom infrastructure.
Another technology that was tapped in the rescue effort at ground zero or the site
of the former World Trade Center was telescoping cameras. They used the IST s
Dotcam, which was lowered and positioned, into confined spaces that aren t
accessible to rescue workers. Thermal technology was also used in the search and
rescue process at ground zero. Thermal imaging camera where used to scan dark
areas for signs of life. Thermal imaging camera worked on the concept of picking up
heat from the body of other objects that may me giving off heat. This technology
helped the rescuers to determine the difference between debris and bodies in the zero
visibility.
Robotics was also another big help in the search and rescue
Theraputic Hypothermia Essay
Theraputic Hypothermia
Hypothermia, defined as a core body temperature less than 95 В°F(35В°C) occurs
when heat loss exceeds the body s heat production. (Ruffolo p.47) Thermal stability in
humans depends on the body s ability to adapt to changes in internal and external
temperatures. Heat is transferred throughout tissues and fat, and is released at a rate
directly related to the temperature of the environment through radiation, conduction,
convection, and evaporation.
Hypothermia is typically seen as a bad thing; however, various studies have been
proving it to be very useful. Traumatic brain injury initiates several metabolic
processes
that can exacerbate the injury. There is evidence that ... Show more content on

Taken together, the findings in these trials are important,
because in the United States so far, permanent brain damage after cardiopulmonary
cerebral resuscitation causes many delayed deaths and is seen in about 10to 30
percent of
survivors of out of hospital cardiac arrest. The fact that 2 studies yielded similar
results
makes the important conclusions even more compelling. The rationale for the use of
therapeutic hypothermia is complex. Spontaneous uncontrolled hypothermia start with
potential deleterious shivering, thermo genesis , catecholamine release, and
vasoconstriction, there as controlled hypothermia is potentially beneficial. Therapeutic
hypothermia after cardiac arrest, as used in the 2 stories above, is directed at
mitigating
neurological injury. Temperature levels are important; mild hypothermia (33В°C to
36В°C)
may be most effective, and is simple and safe. Moderate hypothermia (28В°C to
32В°C) can
cause arrhythmias or even ventricular fibrillation and if prolonged, can lead to
coagulopathy and infection. The timing and duration are important; mild hypothermia
should be initiated as soon as possible after resuscitation, but even when delayed for
a few
hours, mild hypothermia has been shown to have some benefits un animal models of
cardiac arrest. Mild hypothermia induced in patients for 12
Dawit IsaskВґs Daughter Fight for Fairness Essay
After 12 years of Dawit Isaak s indefinite detention, his daughter Betlehem decided
that enough is enough. Betlehem was tired of the Swedish politicians who said that
they were gonna help Isaak but yet didn t do anything besides saying that they
would. She also was tired of the Eritrean government who had imprisoned Isaak
without a trial. Betlehem was furious, she came to the conclusion that nobody was
gonna do shit for her and her family.
The only option left was to take the matter in her own hands. Betlehem was by this
time only 20 years old but she was determined to get her dad out of prison or at least

The petition got 131,274 signatures and Bodström was forced to take this seriously,
but as expected he didn t do much. As previous Prime Ministers he didn t even visit
Eritrea to meet with the Eritrean government, all he did was to publicly speak
about Dawit Isaak and that it s horrible that a man can lose all his basic human
rights for no apparent reason. His speech got standing ovations from the 12,000
people who had come to Medborgarplatsen in Stockholm. But besides a scripted
speech that was made for Bodström to look good, nothing new happened regarding
Isaaks situation in Eritrea. Nobody even knew if he was alive anymore. There were
rumors surrounding that Isaak may have been beaten to death but Betlehem didn t
listen to those rumors. She knew deep down that her dad was a strong man and
would survive.
Even though Betlehem and Jacob had got a little family of their own with 2
wonderful kids, the hole after her dad was still huge. The 2 kids who were 4 and 2
years old had often wondered where their grandfather was. This put a lot of pressure
on Betlehem and Jacob, what was they supposed to tell them? That a corrupt
government had imprisoned their grandfather without giving him a trial and that he
was in solitary confinement? They stuck to the story that Dawit Isaak was on a long
vacation . Betlehem realized that nothing was gonna get done from
Argumentative Essay On Beauty
The earliest evidence of beauty devices were found in the ruins in Babylon. Not only
the women, but also the men wore eye shadow, curled their hair, brushed on eyeliner,
darkened their lashes, and used henna for nail colour.
Beginning with the sixteenth century, women used white lead on their faces so they
could look pale, and they used lye to lighten their hair, which then fell out so that
wigs had to be used.
Although modern beauty regimes may not be as archaic, as uncomfortable, or as
dangerous, the desire to make ourselves, what we feel is, better than natural, has
made a bulging one hundred and sixty billion dollar a year industry not only for
women, but also for men. Sadly, some populations in some countries spend more on
cosmetics and beautifying regimes and research for those products than is spent on
education.
Perfumes, hair products, make up, lotions, powders are one thing, but add to the mix
cosmetic surgery to go along with the obsession to look better than we are and we
have a generation of people who are obsessed about looking picture perfect.
What is the thing with beauty regimes that attempt to give you the miraculous
natural look? Is it only because of personal vanity that so much is spent on beauty?
Not necessarily. Studies have been done that show people will judge others based
on their attractiveness, i.e., if one is perceived attractive one will get a better job,
will be waited on faster at establishments, will earn more money, and will be more
Imagery In The Film The Triumph Of Will
The imagery presented in the 1939 film, The Triumph of Will, impacts the viewer by
giving them the sense honorable power. The film begins by showing Hitler flying
above Germany, allowing views to see he is higher than life. The film transitions into
men, woman and children honoring his power during a period. The way people hail
Hitler provide an outlook of respect and honor. Alongside power, the movie connects
the idea of power with the idea of unity. You see the community member unify with
the Nazi army, and Hitler. This unity prospers throughout Hitler s speeches at each
rally. During rally speeches Hitler preached the message of the future, that can
flourish, and with stand other civilizations. This future would be controlled through

This film paints the Nazi army as strong heroic individuals, with a sense of love
and laughter (16:13). There is strong sign of respect throughout the film, not only
is their respect given to Hitler, but there is a strong sign of respect given to the
whole Nazi army. Even in the acknowledgement in the weakening of the Nazi
Army, the producer shows a strong unified force (1:19:20). Staying strong and
honorable to God s plan , a view would believe they were fighting for a noble cause.
This could be because the propaganda essence the film carries. Propaganda is
described as biased or misleading information used to publicize a political point of
view (Dictionary.com). That perfectly describes what this film is. Producer, Leni
Riefenstahl, was born in Berlin and following the Nazi Army closely. The Triumph
of will was her biggest success, which became famous during the war but shortly lost
following once the war was complete. This is because the film was considered
propaganda for Hitler, and the Nazi s. In my opinion, this is a fair classification, as it
shows a bias point of view of the

ABSTRACT
Apache Cassandra is another open source distributed database management system
developed to handle large data sets. It is a gift given to the big data users by
Facebook in 2008. The purpose of this research is to highlight the importance of
Cassandra in the world of NoSQL by discussing about some of the main questions
like, what are the difficulties faced with the traditional relational database
management systems, how these issues are solved by using NoSQL, how Cassandra
came into existence, why it is used by some of the major organizations to handle their

There are many NoSQL databases and each either have some common functionalities
or have some unique functionalities when compared to the relational model. The main
thing to be considered is that none of the NoSQL results work for all scenarios.
Each works better than the relational models and satisfies some subsets of the use
cases. Apache Cassandra is one of the NoSQL databases which is most widely used
in the industrial market. This article gives a detailed information about Cassandra, its
functionalities, its advantages and disadvantages which seem to be deceptive for
someone who look at Cassandra for the first time.

1.1. Difficulties with traditional RDBMS
In the initial stages of evolution of databases, relational databases systems was
designed as a solution to the problems of flat file databases. A relational database
stores data in multiple table. This technique helped to overcome the issues like data
duplication, data noise and inconsistency which ensured that the data is entered and
stored only once. Later as the data grew in size, it became a challenging task to
handle such a significantly large amount of data. Key features like high data velocity,
data variety, data volume and data complexity are few important reasons which the
traditional database systems failed to handle successfully. As a result NoSQL came

The Design Tool That I Will Use For My Research
The design tool that I will use for my research case of study is the survey. Survey
represents one of the most frequent types of quantitative in social science research.
By utilizing the method of survey research, as a researcher I can cull a sample of
respondents from a population and administers a uniform questionnaire to them; in
this case the children ages 10 13 yrs old and their parents from an aftercare program.
The questionnaire, or survey, will be an indicated document that will be
consummated by the person that will be surveyed, throughout a questionnaire, a face
to face interview, or a telephone interview. By utilizing a survey, will accumulate data
from diminutive populations that every so often referred to as the macrocosm of a
study. According to Bradburn and Sudman (1988) the benefits of using this tool over
other tools are: Surveys are quite less expensive. Surveys are utilizable in unfolding
the characteristics of an astronomically immense population. No other method of
observation can provide this general competence. They can be administered from
remote locations utilizing mail, email or telephone. Consequently, prodigiously and
sizably voluminous samples are feasible, making the results statistically consequential
even when analyzing multiple variables. Many questions can be given as a topic
giving considerable litheness to the analysis. There is flexibility at the engenderment
phase in deciding how the questions will be administered: as
Government Spending of Tax Dollars Essay
Government Spending of Tax Dollars
Taxes are the dollars that we pay to government to supply the services that are not
or can not be provided through the free enterprise system. Taxes have been around
since the beginning of organized societies. They come in various forms. Most
common are income taxes both federal and local government. These taxes are
assessed on the amount of income a person earns. Other taxes come in the form of
user taxes; these taxes are imposed on the people that are using the goods being
taxed, such as gas tax, alcohol tax, sales tax, and luxury taxes. Property taxes make up
the major revenues for local and city governments. Furthering the burden of taxation

In order for these governments to function there was a need for revenue to meet the
expenses incurred by these governments. This need for revenue was met by levying
taxes on individuals and businesses. It has always been a question to the population
being taxed as to whether or not the government was doing a good job in assessing
and managing the money it collected from taxes.
Taxes 4
The purpose of this report is to determine if the government is acting fairly in its
taxation of the American population, and to point out the waste in government
spending. In an article published November 1995, an unknown author explained
the need for government revenue by defending what the revenue supplies for the
people. In America we live within a free enterprise society. A free enterprise
system is based on the idea of competition is good and that only the most efficient
businesses will survive. The free enterprise system works with the idea that the
consumer is somewhat knowledgeable about the products they buy. However, in
today s modern world the consumer cannot be always be expected to make an
informed decision about something. This is where federal laws are put in place to
protect the interest of the public. Examples of such laws are regulations covering

Netflix vs. Redbox Industry
How is it that Netflix and Coinstar s Redbox have thrived in the DVD rental business
and brick and mortar companies like Blockbuster were forced into bankruptcy
protection? According to CEO and founder Reed Hastings, value is the reason. As we
know from class, value is defined by customer/consumer and companies that offer
value turn buyers. One great example of a company s value turning buyers into
lifelong customers is Apple. Apples success with iPhones, iTunes and Mac computers
have proven that value through excellent customer experiences creates lifelong
clients/customers.
Netflix does not have an official mission statement, but founder Reed Hastings
refers to its brand promise as a quest and goes on to say We promise our customers

Indigestion Lab Report
Description of the approved topic: Indigestion is a common ailment for many
individuals and is a result of excess acid in the stomach. Excess hydrochloric acid
(HCl) in the stomach can irritate the stomach lining, cause tenderness and can often
lead to painful stomach ulcers. Excess amounts of HCl in the stomachalso leads to a
disease known as acidreflux where these acidic stomach contents come back into the
esophagus and corrode its lining, overtime leading to esophageal cancer. However,
there do exist commercial antacids (ex. Tums, Rolaids etc.) which are bases that react
stoichiometrically with the acid and neutralize it. Based on the active ingredients
present in the antacid, it is effectively able to neutralize a certain quantity of excess

Personal significance and real life context: This topic appeals to me because
indigestion of acids and acid reflux is something I have been suffering from since

A Brief Note On Hydro Quebec And The Largest
Electricity...
What is Hydro Quebec? Hydro Quebec is the biggest electricity company in
Quebec, it is one of the biggest electricity company in North America and it is one
of the leading companies of hydropower in the world. Hydropower is one of
sustainable energy resources and it plays a very important role to protect our
environment. The company was founded in April 14, 1994. After more than
seventy years development, about 99 percent of electricity that Hydro Quebec
generated is by Hydropower. Hydro Quebec s research institute (IREQ) which is in
charge of technological innovation advantages Hydro Quebec compare with other
electricity company. Why Energy consumption is Important? Energy consumption
is bound tightly with our daily life especially when we try to maintain our high
quality of life (Panwar, Kaushik, Kothary, 2011). For example, energy
consumption is required when people try to light a lightbulb in the night; cars
need energy to move. People in the world need to consume an enormous quantity
of energy every day to support daily life (see picture 1). Countries development is
also rely on energy consumption. A research find out that real GDP will be increase
by 0.12% 0.39% percent when increase 1% energy consuming. (Narayan, Smyth,
2008). Types of energy and What are the sources? All energy people using can be
classified into two types. The first type is sustainable energy and the second type is
unsustainable energy. Sustainable energy is renewable while
Marijuana Informative Speech
Howdy, today Sara, Shelby, Jessica, Royce and I will be discussing why the rise of
marijuana is so popular in the world and United States, as well as some of the issues
within the United States that are specific with marijuana.
Introduction:
Attention: I want you to think about what comes to your mind when you hear the
word marijuana and how your thought would vary if you lived 4,000 years ago. I am
sure you were not thinking about the cannabis plant that could also produce more
beneficial worldwide items such as fabric and fiber, lighting oil, or even paper.
Thesis Statement: Today my focus will not be on the positive and negatives of the
marijuana drug, however for the next few minutes I will inform you about the
importance of the past global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the 2010 National Drug Strategy Household Survey, 35.4% of the
Australian population reported using cannabis at some time in their lives, with 10.3%
having used it in the last 12 months. Even more astonishing news that was reported
from this survey was that of the Australian population that was surveyed more than
700,000 Australians used cannabis in the previous week. ( What is Cannabis )
Transition to second main point: Now that we understand the cannabis plant and how
global this plant is, we will now narrow our attention to where marijuana comes from,
let us dive into how marijuana became such a popular drug worldwide.
2.Throughout the last ninety five years, marijuana has become the reason for
governments worldwide to spend billions of dollars in order to stop war on drugs ,
but many wonder how marijuana even became so popular in global society.
a.According to criminal defense lawyer, Bruce Alan Block, he says that Marijuana
was used as a medicinal herb by the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans
for stomach ailments, cramps, and pain. (Block)
i.Bruce then leads on to talk about how the drug marijuana was spread throughout
Europe was during war and trading with allies during the conquests in the
Mediterranean.
The Formation Of Social Policy
Aaminah Shabbir The Formation of Social Policy
In this essay, I will be discussing how Conservatism and Socialism ideologies shape
social policy in the UK. I will also be arguing that despite the United Kingdom
being a democratic society, it is falling below democratic standards. At present,
social media is one of the most powerful tools in shaping people s perceptions on
political ideologies, and therefore will be evaluating the extent it plays on policies as
well as social conscience. The United Kingdom has two main political parties, the
Conservative party and the Labour party. Although the political system in the UK has
always been a multiparty system, ultimately it is either of these parties which shape
policies in Britain. They have several differences on many key issues and principles.
On the political spectrum, the labour party belongs to the centre left of the centre
with socialistic ideology whereas the Conservative party sits at the centre right of the
political spectrum with their primary philosophies of British unionism,
Euroscepticism, Conservatism and Economic Liberalism. The Conservatism
ideology stands firmly against the ideals of Liberalism and Socialism. The labour
party (left wing) aim to support people who are unable to support themselves and
believe in equality. Conservative party (right wing) value equity, economic freedom
and freedom to succeed. Right wing people

In the aftermath were calls for enhanced corporate governance and risk management,
with new law, regulation, and listing standards. The need for an enterprise risk
management framework, providing key principles and concepts, a common language,
and clear direction and guidance, became even more compelling. COSO believes this
Enterprise Risk Management Integrated Framework fills this need, and expects it will
become widely accepted by companies and other organizations and indeed all
stakeholders and interested parties. Among the outgrowths in the United States is the
Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, and similar legislation has been enacted or is being
considered in other countries. This law extends the long standing requirement for
public companies to maintain systems of internal control, requiring management to
certify and the independent auditor to attest to the effectiveness of those systems.
Internal Control Integrated Framework, which continues to stand the test of time,
serves as the broadly accepted standard for satisfying those reporting requirements.
This Enterprise Risk Management Integrated Framework expands on internal control,
providing a more robust and extensive focus on the broader subject of enterprise risk
management. While it is not intended to and does not replace the internal control
framework, but rather incorporates the internal control framework within it,

Republican Dominance In Texas
The state of Texas is a major battle ground state for national politics when it comes
to the presidential elections. Winning votes in Texas can be huge for the political
campaign of a certain party. Unfortunately; as of now, Texas is mostly known as a
republican majority state. It is widely accepted that as a republican candidate, you
are very likely to win the state s vote. The republican dominance of Texashas spanned
for many years; however, this was not the case in the late 19th century to late 20th
century. Events during that time period, such as the civil war, reconstruction, and the
great depression, caused voting patterns and demographics to shift towards the
Democratic Party. During the mid 1800 s, the democratic and republican... Show

Increasing involvement of the minority in Texas shows that Republican support is
slowly diminishing away. Like how the Democrats lost control of Texas, it seems
that the Republicans are heading down the same road. Compared to the decline of
the Democrats in the 1970 s, Republicans seem to be shifting away from the values
of the majority. They, like the Democrats near the end of the 20th century, are
starting to become a party without a message. Their views are slowly becoming
meaningless in the eyes of the majority. If Republicans are to maintain their
dominance in Texas, they must start addressing issues that not only pertain to white
(Anglos) voters, but to African American and Hispanic voters as well. Texas has
become a majority minority state. It has drastically diversified since the end of the
20th century and with that diversification comes different viewpoints on state (and
even national) issues. Issues that commonly reside with minorities, such as abortion,
health care, and immigration, are being ignored or not confronted enough to where
minority support for the republican agendas are fading away. Eventually, Democrats
will begin to leech off the mistakes Republicans are currently committing. They will
start to address more progressively acts of liberalism and reform that appeals to
minority voters while also attacking issues that reside within the white Anglo
community. Simply put, Democrats will become competitive in Texas once they
give Hispanic and African Americans a reason to vote and be active in Texas
politics. Over time, the Democratic Party will once again re emerge as a competitive
force in the political
Break The Glass Ceiling
The glass ceiling was first introduced in the 1980 s and is a transparent barrier that
women are blocked into which prevents them from moving up not just at their job
but, prevents them from moving up simply because the gender is female. Since the
early 1700 s women have been fighting to become equal to their male counterpart and
still today the battle to break the glass ceilingcontinues. There are many
discriminationwomen face in the workplace which Is not limited to their wages in
comparison to men, sexual harassment and job segregation. Women can seek and
achieve the highest level of education but in the corporate world a woman will be
kept from reaching the highest paid or reputable position because it is respectively
not accepted. In the labor market, women are often found segregated into specific
areas such as human services, clerical positions, and health care support jobs which
offers barely any advancement in climbing the ladder to the top. In the workforce,...

Essay about Honored Irish Immigrants
For many people, the American dreams and promises brought ideas and new hopes
of a better life. For the Irish, the American dreams and promises weren t just ideas
and hopes, they were the way to a new beginning in America, a way to start over
and forget the horrifying past they encountered. The Irish struggled day after day to
pay for fair travel to America. To many people, the challenge the Irish overcame
seemed to deserve praise. Today, the Irish are honored and commemorated for their
hard work and desire for a better life.
The start of the Irish peoples struggles began when the British came and destroyed

People worried about the potato crop. At first, the potatos seemed fine, but after
further examination the potatos were rotten. In October of 1845, Britain s Prime
Minister, Sir Robert Peel, established a scientific commission to discover over half
of Irelands potatos had been ruined by wet rot. The potato crop failed time and time
again. Irish people began to lose hope in receiving better living conditions, but the
shipping lanes opened to America after they had been closed by the war (Philip).
Irish began to think of the American dream and promise.
The American dream and promise changes a nations state of mind. It originally
comes from the Declaration of Independence. The promise is all men are created
equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights. The
dream: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. All of which were things the Irish
desired (Pendry).
According to Philips, between 1815 and 1816, around 20,000 Irish traveled to the
Americas. These emigrants were mostly professionals and shopkeepers, because
farmers couldn t afford travel. Over the next two decades shipping fees continued
to have outrageous prices, but between 1823 and 1825 more people, such as the
merchants and farmers, were able to travel because free passage and land grants
were allowed to Catholics. The largest emigration was in 1827 when nearly 400,000
Irish traveled to the Americas on Coffin Ships; overcrowded ships filled
The Social Responsibility Of The Workplace
Introduction
Archie Carroll defines corporate social responsibility (CSR) as the social
responsibility of business encompassing the economic, legal, ethical, and
discretionary expectations that society has of these organizations at a given point in
time. (Crane, 5) Interesting enough, there has been an abrupt growth of firm s
engagement in CSR within all industries. This is the result of growing requests from
the civil society demanding firms, of all sizes, to legitimize their practices. (Crane, 4)
More importantly, workplace issues have become an integral part of corporate social
responsibility. This includes a firm s lacking efforts in its occupational health and
safety, and its fair pay and conditions, amongst others. (Crane, 253) As employees
reside in the midst of companies engaging in corporate social responsibility, the
reputation of the firm relies profoundly on ensuring all those within the in house
workplaces as well as the outsourced workplaces are treated justly and within the
operating country s legislation. (Crane, 253) Further to this, social injustice that
occurs can negatively affect the firm s reputation and brand favorability. (Crane, 254)
Therefore, it was within the firm s best interests to fulfill their core corporate
responsibilities in the workplace. Albeit corporations may have the intention to act
within labour standards, circumstances do arise where the rights of employees are
neglected and the morality of the firm is questioned.

Theory of Opposition Essay
Theory of Opposition
In looking at the reasoning and theories of different philosophers throughout history,
we see numerous themes develop which play various and sometimes very significant
roles in each philosopher s arguments. In their discussions of the cause or source of
the universe as well as those regarding the relationships that exist inherently in nature,
we see the different thinkers utilize themes such as unity, change and opposition.
While many philosophers may employ one or many of these such themes, it is
important to note that, often, the significance, interpretation and specific roles of
these themes will vary from one philosopher to another. With this in mind, I will
attempt to outline the role and interpretation of ... Show more content on

Rather, Anaximander believes, the universeis the result of four elements in opposition
to eachother. He proposes that Thales water is just one element among many and,
therefore, is limited. He sets forth the four elements, essentilly, as being dry, moist,
hot and cold. He utilizes this theory of the four elements in opposition to account for
the balance that occurs in nature. It is this opposition, he believes, that keeps order to
the universe. Were they not in opposition to eachother, any one of the elements
would be unbounded and would cancel out the others. The importance of opposition
in Anaxamander s argument is summed up in a statement of Aristotle s regarding
Anaximander s assertions. Aristotle tells us that ...they are in opposition to one
another air is cold, water is moist, and fire hot and, therefore, if any one of them
were unbounded, the rest would have ceased to be by this time... Anaximander s
warring opposites commit injustice upon eachother and this relationship is evident in
such natural phenomena as the cyclical revolution of the seasons. In his theory, it is
interesting to note, however, that Anaximander does not rely solely on the theory of
opposition. Although opposition is central to his argument, he does introduce the
superior, unbounded, unifying factor of Time. The next philosopher I will discuss
with regard to this topic is Heraclitus. The way Heraclitus uses the theme of
opposition is

Abnormality Essay Discuss Two or More Definitions of...
SECTION C: INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES
Question 10
Abnormality is very difficult to define. It can be hard to decide where normal
behaviour ends and abnormal behaviour begins
Discuss two or more definitions of abnormality
AO1 = 6 marks Knowledge and understanding of definitions of abnormality.
AO2 = 6 marks Commentary on definitions of abnormality.
The term abnormal means deviating from the average. Therefore, if we were to
adopt a literal approach to defining abnormality, we would conclude that any rare
behaviour or ability was abnormal. This, however, is not a useful way of defining
abnormality as it doesn t take into account whether or not the behaviour is desirable.
There are three ways of defining abnormality; deviation from ... Show more content

All that s required to see if a person is mentally healthy is if they fulfil the defined
criteria, making it easier to define mental health as there is a set of conditions to be
satisfied.
However, this definition assumes that the absence of one of these conditions
implies abnormality. In reality a number of the criteria are quite difficult to
achieve e.g. actualisation is reached by only a few people in life. If this definition
is applied most people would be deemed as abnormal. Also it is not always clear
what some of the conditions mean in practice e.g. accurate view of reality. It s not
certain what this refers to given that reality is a product of each individuals mind.
For example, a soldier in Afghanistan would have a different reality to that of an
accountant in London. The definition of what is mentally healthy varies across
cultures. The categories of ideal mental health cannot be generalised to all cultures.
Some of the criteria are based on Western ideas which are not shared by all cultures
of the world for example there s an emphasis on autonomy which is a particularly
western idea. Some cultures place a great deal of emphasis on collective
responsibility.
Deviation from social norms is behaviour that violates implicit and explicit rules and
moral standards of a given society. For example; paedophilia and sexual exhibitionism
violates moral standards concerning sexual behaviour in British society.
Norms are unwritten rules created by society

Barbie Doll Marge Piercy
Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy
The poem Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy dramatizes the conflict between stereotyping
and perfection within society. The title accentuates the theme of the poem; the Doll
symbolizes society s interpretation of beauty and a reflection of how the girl s ideas
of this beauty shape her self worth. According to Steven Ratiner, author of Giving
Their World: Conversations with Contemporary Poets, it is Piercy s realistic
interpretations of life experience which develops the theme of her poetry: ... her
poems contain visions of a woman s struggle to take responsibility for her own life...

given traits of the girl that provide the countermovement for the poem (Perrin 87).
This girl tries to live up to the epitome, for she has apologized and now wants to

measuring up to the standard of an ideal female, a standard set by society.
The third stanza Piercy transitions into adulthood. It seems as though the young girl
is reaching out for help to match with society s Barbie like expectations of her. She
is advised to play coy, / exhorted to come on hearty, / exercise, diet, smile and

she is struggling to find out as to why people will not accept her for who she is.

Horizontal Layout of Buildings
In short, the simple geometry buildings have performed better during the

earthquakes can be avoided by making the buildings in two parts. Like, an L shaped

One aspect of the concert that I observed was the disproportion between the number
of male and female performers. The female performers outnumbered the male
performers in each choir, making the performance more female led. Male voices are
the key to any choir because they can hit the bass notes that are the foundation of all
music. It would have been nice to hear more bass notes in the pieces, yet I
understand how challenging that can be with such a few number of male
performers. Nevertheless, the male participants did a fantastic job of trying their
hardest to belt out the bass notes in order to help the music keep its foundation.
During the concert, there were a few times where I had a physical response to the
music being sung. The first physical response that I had while listening to the
medley with Living on a Prayer in it, was goosebumps. Living on a Prayer has such
beautiful harmonies, and the choir did a superb job of hitting those harmonies
perfectly, which caused the goosebumps. Another time during the performance, I had
to catch my breath because the song Rock Battle of Love had the piece Purple Rain
in it, and with the dissonance and grand pause, it was such a joy to listen to. The
dissonance of this song helped to create suspense for the audience, which then
perfectly transitioned to the grand pause. This, like most grand pauses, threw the

Through exploration of the world around us, one s passions are born. Passions make
a person who they are. Who I am is shown through my passion for dance, service and
exploration.
When I was five I was introduced to Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance.
Learning to move to the music and create beautiful expression of emotion and art, I
fell in love with dance. It became my medium of free expression. After moving to
the US, dance was a cultural root I needed to help me adjust. In a time when I was
questioning my identity, dance allowed the opportunity to stay close to my heritage.
Although the time spent dancing has decreased in the past couple of years, my love
for dance is constant. While at Hopkins, I want to join Shakti, a student dance group,
to continue creating the art I love so much and expand my horizons by learning
different styles of dance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

service is giving back to the world that has already given me so much. Partnering

aided in the campaign to close the achievement gap. The program s main focus was
to introduce STEM fields to the students, tutor them in subjects they struggled in,

Technology And Its Impact On Modern Society
In the past century, society has seen great leaps in technology that has connected
people together more than ever, it has saved lives and continues to make day to
day life simply easier to navigate. However, there are consequences to these
advances. With people clamoring every year to get their hands on the newest
iteration of their electronic devices, whether it be the latest iPhone, a more
advanced computer or a high definition television society must confront the
problems it has created by its own desire for technology. As consumers purchase
newer and better version of their old electronics the question of what happens to
the old ones is raised. In 2005 alone, it was estimated that Americans disposed of
two million tons of electronic products a year and that by 2010 that number would
grow to four hundred million annually (Eilperin). This rate of disposal leaves
behind piles of unwanted electronic devices and while many of these devices end
up in junk drawers there are many more that end up in landfills where their toxic
metal innards contaminate drinking water and soil. Or, devices are left to go to
seed in some lonely warehouse long since abandoned by its own and there is
always the possibility of devices being exported to poor countries where recycling
regulations are lacks. The scope of the problem is not small as it is estimated that the
hazard created by electronic waste threatens over one hundred million lives
worldwide (Wood). To begin to understand why
Modern Olympic Movement
Throughout 1892 to 2002, many events happened that helped shape the modern
Olympic movement. There were new problems and new improvements that affected
the Olympics. WIth the documents we re given, we are able to analyze the factors
that created these new problems and improvements. Through these years, we can
see that the world has become more acceptable to women, people being pressured
because of pride, people trying to work harder to earn more money, and people
working harder for world peace.
Within the many years of Olympics, women was able to gain acceptance and respect
from others. From this gain, women were beginning to attend the Olympic games. In
document 2, a picture taken in 1908 was given a caption, 2 percent of the athletes ...

Regardless of who takes home the medals, corporations from the United States,
Japan, and some other countries stand to make a lot of gold at the Seoul Olympics,
(cite Doc #7), what the newspaper meant by that was that even though some won
gold, the corporations that helped broadcast have earned them gold as well. Though
these corporations were a big help in the Olympics and it made a really big
influence in the Olympics now, some corporations may have taken advantage of the
Olympics just to make profit. Document 9 s bar graph was given a title Fees Paid to
the International Olympic Committee for International TV and Radio Broadcast
Rights and with the bar graph we can see that during 1980 to 2000 the countries
paid more and more to promote the olympics. This graph might have also been
made because they wanted to show how people worked harder to help make the
Olympic more popular and be watched by different people around the world to help
show our world is developing into a more diverse society. Lots of people worked
hard to promote the Olympics and some did it just to help the Olympics and some
others took advantage of this event.
From the Olympics, people were able to try to bring peace and unity to the world.
Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic movement, gave a speech to
the Athletic Society of France and his speech showed he thought the Olympics

The Disappearance Of The Lost Colony
In 1587, one hundred ten people, including seventeen women and nine children,
sailed from Plymouth, England, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to start a
new life on the Outer Banks. This colony of over one hundred people disappeared
from the Roanoke Island region, never to be seen again (Kramer 2). For over 400
years, historians and archeologists have attempted to determine what happened.
Although there are several popular theories regarding the disappearance of the
Lost Colony, the theory with the most evidence for being accurate is the migration
theory. The two previous expeditions that had been sent to this region by Sir Walter
Raleigh had been unsuccessful in establishing a settlement. The first group had
simply returned to England. The second group had left fifteen men to stay on the
island to start a colony. The third group had expected to find these men when they
arrived, but the logs of Fort Raleigh had been pulled down. One corpse was found
and it became clear that the destiny of the others was not good, and none had
survived ( The Lost Colony of Roanoke 2). Prior to their departure from England
in1587, the third group of colonists was misled about the area they were sent to. The
previous expedition had compared Roanoke to the Garden of Eden saying, The earth
bringeth forth all things in abundance, as in the first creation, without toil or labor.
The soil is the most plentiful, sweet, fruitful and wholesome of all the world. Soon
after arrival it was
Reflection Paper On Narcissism
Reading this week s articles became all too personal for me as I began to reflect on
the book that I am writing in which the protagonist is a narcissist. When telling
people about my book most people cannot get past the fact that the protagonist is
my mother, but her narcissistic personality is what created the storyline for my
entire text. She has many of the classic attributes of a narcissist, my favorite (from a
writer s perspective) is her immense lack of empathy. It is extremely incredible that
what little empathy she can find she can control based on who she is with and what
the specific circumstances are. While the book may shed light on some of the
negative things she has done in her past or the negative behaviors associated with her
narcissismI have been sure to include an entire chapter detailing my belief that
narcissism should be considered an objective personality type. Narcissism has an
enormous amount of negative connotation surrounding it which is ironic to be
because there are positive attributes some of which many of us share.
The article mentioned, Most of us have elements of all three, when referring to the
three main personality types of erotics, obsessives, and narcissists (Maccoby). I
agree with Maccoby which is why I think it is important that we continue to find a
place in the workplace for those who are narcissistic and abrasive because even
though we may not agree with their style we must welcome diversity in order to
avoid groupthink. I think that ensuring a well balanced mix of personalities in a
workplace can boost production and allow leaders to rise from the shadows of
abrasive and narcissistic leaders who may have overstayed their welcome. Another
benefit to maintaining the abrasive personality in the workplace is to encourage the
high achiever in the room who may have the leadership skills to take over a
conversation and just need the right opportunity to do so. If a high achiever gets fed
up with another s behavior it may serve as a catalyst for his/her management of the
group.
If an abrasive worker is also a brilliant one, then we must give him/her a chance to
find success within the organization. If one allows his/her personality to get in the
way of success,
Investigating the Relevance of Adopting Balanced

Investigating the relevance of adopting Balanced Scorecard as a strategic tool for
measuring financial performance.
This paper aims to debate, based on a literature review how relevant it is for
companies to adopt the use of balanced scorecard as tool for measuring financial
performance. The findings in literature shows that balanced scored restore the linkage
between financial and non financial measures in the operational and management
control systems of most companies and helps them to achieve long term strategic
objectives. On the other hand, the use and importance of balanced scorecard has been
evidenced through several studies but some companies still find it difficult and
challenging to implement it because it suggests what to do ... Show more content on

However about twelve years after, Kaplan and Norton (1992) identified the same gap
as regards the traditional method of performance. For Kaplan and Norton, the
financial measures focus on historic nature and do not alert the company about future
actions. This however gives weight to the relevance of Kaplan and Norton s study.
The different shortcomings of traditional performance measurement have been
discussed extensively in literature. Kaplan and Norton (1992) in their study focused
on how to improve on the traditional performance measurement in organisations.
They claim that the traditional financial measures such as the earnings per share,
return on investment and so on can prevent organisations from achieving continuous
improvement and innovation in today s competitive environment. This indicates that
adequate attention is given to the improvement of financial performance; hence this
study is an important one. Similarly, Kennerley and Neely (2003) found the same
problems with implementing the traditional financial measures by stating that it is no
longer sufficient enough for organisations to compete in the modern market because
of customer s high demands. Kennerley and Neely (2003) also identified in their
work that several research has been indicated by other authors that traditional
financial performance measures provide little information on how performance is
achieved or how it can be improved. Furthermore, Davis and Albert (2003) and Rich
The Note On The Banking Crisis
The Banking Crisis The Banking Crisis, 2010
Although there are multiple opinions on the causes of the banking crisis, there is
one thing on which there is general agreement. If banking were still practiced as it
was by George Bailey in the movie It s a Wonderful Life, the crisis would not have
happened.
To understand why the crisis occurred, it is useful to understand the chain of events
that contributed to it and the role each played. This chain transformed the slightly
stodgy, conservative banks of George Bailey s day to the high stakes world of Wall
Street, where large fortunes could be made with financial innovation.
The first step in the chain dates back to 1938, when the Federal National Mortgage
Association (Fannie Mae) was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The act encouraged banks to lend to low and moderate income neighborhoods.
While this was an admirable goal, some believe that to meet quotas established by
this act, banks were forced to engage in imprudent lending. In the 1980s, coming off
a recession, Congress enacted several laws designed to promote free enterprise by
reducing regulations. One of these laws was the Alternative Mortgage Transaction
Parity Act of 1982, an act that permitted the creation of adjustable rate mortgages,
balloon mortgages, and negative amortization mortgages. These would be the types
of mortgages that would create what became the subprime crisis, as buyers who did
not qualify for standard mortgages, at prime interest rates, would be attracted to these
higher interest rate mortgages and eventually default on them.
The Tax Reform Act of 1986 eliminated the tax deduction for interest paid on credit
cards, but retained the deduction for interest on mortgages. This act made home
equity loans highly attractive to many consumers. Believing that their homes would
continue to rise in value, homeowners took out home equity loans to finance such
purchases as cars and home improvement, increasing the amount of debt owed on
their homes and leading to an unhealthy amount of personal debt in the financial
system. In 1970, debt was 60 percent of domestic personal income. Debt increased to
134 percent of domestic personal income by mid 2008.

By and large, quantitative philosophies utilize the positivist worldview. The
quantitative procedures utilize excessively couple of variations and offers a mediocre
approach, hence contextual considering of subject is absent. Henceforth, they tend to
be less suited for sociology contrasted with objective learnings (Barr, 2004). The
quantitative system has been based in a positivist structure and dismisses the distinct
and aggregative predispositions of the philosophers and also the issues (Onwuegbuzie
and Leech, 2005). Then again, later times have seen an expanded enthusiasm for
qualitative study (Denzin and Lincoln, 1994). This developing enthusiasm for
subjective or assessment has been visible by the various brilliant researches which
have are been proposed utilizing qualitative techniques and in addition the expanding
number of extraordinary subjects on Qualitative examination in exceptionally

above restrictions of quantitative system, reservations have been identified regarding
benchmarks, legitimacy, dependability and meticulousness in qualitative examination

Compare And Contrast St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Thomas Aquinas and In Search of the Good St. Thomas Aquinas is one of the
most prominent and prevalent figures of the Catholic Church, whose very
philosophy and doctrine has served to shape Christian understanding of morality,
ethics, and faith. In his time, his profound philosophy and words were called
dangerous and radical, but today, many praise them as revolutionary and a true
embodiment of Christ s message. In fact Pope Leo XIII once said of him:
And truly such is Thomas Aquinas, not only for the completeness, balance, depth,
and clarity of his style , but still more for his keen sense of fidelity to the truth,
which can also be called realism. Fidelity to the voice of created things so as to
construct the edifice of philosophy fidelity to the voice of the Church so as to
construct the edifice of theology.
Truly, St.Thomas Aquinas s impact on the Church cannot be understated. Therefore,
it can be concluded that Aquinas s works not only reflect the writings of the
textbook studied over the course of the year, In Search of the Good, but can also be
said to be an influence on writings contained in the textbook. St. Thomas Aquinas
supports the writings of In Search of the Good in their shared belief in the
importance of the beatitudes and natural law. The first concept that both In Search of
the Good and St. Thomas Aquinas share is their belief in the importance of the
beatitudes. The beatitudes that Jesus conveyed on his Sermon on the Mount are a

Theme Of Language In The Film A Clockwork Orange
Language in both literature and film is a profound part, which takes its reader or
viewer on a journey and develop their perception of characters. A Clockwork
Orange deals with the brilliant usage of language in both novel and film. Anthony
Burgess the writer of the novel A Clockwork Orange uses language to create a
buffer, to indicate alliances with a specific social group and lastly, to embroil the
reader in the action. Stanley Kubrick the screenwriter of the film A Clockwork Orange
believes language is the least important aspect in a film so instead to create the same
effects that Burgess creates through language, Kubrick s uses cinematic techniques to
achieve the same effect. This essay will explore and examine the function and
techniques... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only characters who uses nadsat, is Alex and his friends thus, making is easy for
the reader to differentiate between teenage gang members and older mature
citizens. Colloquialism creates a community and Burgess uses language to make
the reader feel as though they are part of this gang. In the prison there is a direct
contrast to who is part of this social group, and who is not. Dr Brodsky tells Alex
you can t get the better of us (Burgess, Morrison, 2000:86), to which Alex replies
grahzny bratchnies (Burgess, Morrison, 2000:86). Not only is this a way to
differentiate gangs from normal society, but also an indication of which character are
teenagers and which are grownups, keeping the language exuberant in its
inventiveness (Nixon, 2010:8).
Different from Burgess Language alliance technique, Kubrick also indicate
alliances with a social group by means of the visual representation of Alex and his
friends. From the beginning of the film, there is a clear indication of who part of the
gang, and who is not. Alex and his friends wear white long sleeved shirts, and white
trousers (Kubrick, 1971), separating them form the rest of society and making it clear
for the viewer to distinguish between the characters .Kubrick intentionally chooses
these costumes for Alex and his friends to separate them from the rest of
The Removal, By Vasco Pratolini
Vasco Pratolini was born on Via de Magazzini in Florence, Italy in 1913. Growing
up poor between the two world wars, he grew to understand Florence and its
inhabitants in a way that would later shine in nearly all of his novels and stories.
Pratolini relies on making himself seen through his stories as well. A self taught
writer, Pratolini grew up in a poor family. In his short story The Removal , Vasco
describes the plight of he and his grandmother as they are forced out of their
apartment when a wealthier couple decides to move in. This is just one example of
how Pratolini s stories sway towards the autobiographical. Two of Pratolini s most
famous works, Metello and Family Chronicle are representations of Pratolini s
morals and personal beliefs in Matello, and life experiences in Family Chronicle.

Vasco s mother died giving birth to his younger brother, Dante. His father, unable

Ferruccio, grew up wealthy but Vasco has the strong character of a man who grew
up with his familial relatives. Vasco uses the novel to reflect on his own personal
feelings towards his brother. Early in the brother s relationship, his character says
when speaking about him, You, in that sense, belonged to her. You were dead with
her(13) . This is an insight Vasco provided to his childhood self when remembering
why he disliked his younger brother for many years. At the end of the book, the
writer, selfishly in his eyes, sends his fatally ill brother from his home in Rome back
to Florence because he wanted to remember you alive(50) . The autobiographical
novel gave Vasco a chance to express his feelings over his brother s death, both for
himself and for others suffering as he
Morality In The Film Do The Right Thing
The title itself Do The Right Thing is oxymoronic because nobody in the film does
the right thing. This can be said about even now. The people in the film thought that
by burning down the pizzeria a change would happen, just like now how the rioters
in Chicago and St. Louis. In the film you get a sense of familiarity because the
scenery you see in the filmis the same as what you see around you. Bed Stuy

The movie show the characters as contradictory human beings. Sal owns a pizzeria

Raheem and Buggin. Sal proved that Malcolm X s Theory that white people can
still be allies to black people but inherently racist and still have the mindset that they
are more superior to black people. Did Sal s pizzeria symbolize the lingering white

be exploring and analysing the case and advising if there will be claim against Karen
and Win or Lose Electronic Shop under breach or terms or misrepresentation.
As society has become more developed and more complex we require more formal
principles with the end goal for individuals to live respectively in a precise way. At
the point when discussing the law we are discussing rules that we are obliged to
take after. In the event that we commit a criminal law we need to pay a fine or go to

Every law which is made by the parliament needs to be clearly defined and applied
by judges in accordance with each case being dealt with. While deliberiating on
choices about a case a judge should go by the precedent set by the higher courts
concerning the circumstance and conditions applicable, as this additionally helps
the one required for the situation as they are aware they will be dealt with alike
and not arbitraily. The structure of the judicial precendent in the English legal
system, with English law is established on the hypothesis of stare decisis. Stare
decisis is the doctrine that rules principles of law on which a court rested a past
verdict are defintive in all future cases, in which factors are similar. Judges need to
follow these previous decisions which is a binding precedent .
Ratio deidendi is a fundemental part of a judgement. It means the judge s reason for
the decision decided and is part of making a binding precedent. Obiter dicta meaning
other things said is part of the judgement in the case a binding precendent is not

  • 3. Cinderella And Donkeyskin Sparknotes Cinderella and Donkeyskin by Charles Perrault both have the same overarching theme of an abused girl who has been forced to grow up without a mother, who ultimately through the help of a magical entity becomes married to a prince. However, the roles of their prospective female protagonists and the characteristics they portray are very different. Both fairy tales focus on the idea of good overcoming evil, as both Cinderellaand Donkeyskin are forced to comply with the orders of a higher authority figure, a stepmother, and an incestuous father respectively, but they choose to rise above this oppression to find happiness. However, the way in which Cinderella and Donkeyskin play a part in bringing about their ultimate happiness is drastically... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, when the upcoming ball is announced, the stepsisters consult Cinderella because of her good taste, and she willingly gives them excellent advice and even offers to help style their hair. She toils away happily and selflessly. She is so self sacrificing that at the end of the tale she not only forgives her stepsisters cruelty but arranges advantageous marriages for them. Not only is Cinderella passive and obedient to her stepmothers and stepsister, but she also blindly follows the instructions of her fairy godmother. Regarding her fate, Cinderella has no voice to or agency. As the stepsisters leave for the ball, Cinderella can only [follow] them with her eyes for as long as she could before she starts to cry (Perrault). When her fairy godmother appears, Cinderella is only able to utter two sentences, as she was not able to speak the rest, being interrupted by her tears and sobbing (Perrault). Not only is Cinderella incapable of action, she is also speechless, and she cannot even voice her desire to go to the ball. Even throughout the entire tale, for being the main character Cinderella only has five lines of dialogue, with most of these lines demonstrating Cinderella submitting to her servitude or expressing grief surrounding her situation. Even with the small voice she has, Cinderella neither expresses ambition nor desire to have an active role in her fate. After her godmother sees Cinderella sobbing, her godmother

People s daily lives revolve around social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube; the growing number of social media sites and users has increased the likeliness of these social media sites being used as news sources. Protecting the freedom of speech on social media will spread important worldwide news like wildfire, informing users of social media sites about current events quickly and expands the knowledge people have on situations happening in different countries that can t be or aren t reported by news reporters. Social media takes up a considerable portion of people s lives. A myriad of people use social media; this makes news stories and articles on social media sites are a convenient way for people to obtain information about current events happening around the world. The University of Tampa is one of the most prominent and alluring buildings in Downtown Tampa, Florida. Its many educational and athletic department buildings each represent the school in their own way. However, one of the more architecturally beautiful buildings, the Bob Martinez Athletic Center, stands out significantly from the rest. From its historic name dedication, to its location, all the way to its architectural design, the Bob Martinez Athletic Center is certainly one of Tampas most well kept jewels. Standing in front of the Athletic Center looking left to right, the many sharp angles that make up the exterior walls are more than eviden/t. The subtle, light tan color of the top half of building touches the brick lower half like the way water meets oil. The windows are painted on the top half of the building to add some shimmer as the sun blazes through. The brick half is a razor edged wave turning corners sharper than a Nascar driver during the Sprint Cup Series. Block, brick, and cast stone make up the exterior walls of the Center. The process includes laying brick with mortar, painting and application of ceramic products (Condeixa et al, 2015, table 2). The entryway is a curved tower held up by four brick pillars. The center of the entryway is adorned with a glass medallion; engraved in the glass is the Spartan logo like two lovers names engraved in their favorite tree as a beautiful reminder of what is and what used to be. Keeping guard at either side of the entrance are two Spartan soldiers, they welcome students and fellow Spartan lovers through the shadowy cave that leads to the six glass doors. However, they are always equipped with sword and shield in hand ready to take on anybody that dares to challenge or threaten their arena. Day and night they protect the Athletic Center, ensuring that its true purpose is never stolen: the love of sports and of
  • 6. My Perspective On Supervision And Evaluation Essay There are several assumptions or biases that influence my perspective on supervision and evaluation. I believe that problem solving and critical thinking should be the most emphasized aspect in education. Teachers must prepare students to be leaders, innovators, and original thinkers in order for them to be successful in the world. I also believe that social and emotional curriculum should have a more prominent place in our educationsystem. Students should have strategies for dealing with these issues that are presented throughout their education. Finally, I believe effective teachers must develop loving, trusting relationship with students in order for students to reach their full potential in their classroom. To me, instructional supervision means helping teachers to continual grow and progress in their profession. To me, this is the ultimate purpose of supervision, to help teacher be better each day, to be more effective, and to reach more students. To do this, I believe supervisors must build a trusting relationship with staff, be able to provide non judgmental, constructive feedback multiple times throughout the year, be a knowledgeable and competent resource for teachers, and allow teachers to have a voice in building decisions. This is the role of a supervisor. In order to meet the goal of helping teachers to be more effective, a successful supervisor must also possess a wide array of knowledge and skills. They must be knowledgeable and well researched in best

Since there are so many wireless telephones is use, it made sense to pull in some of the newer technology to try and locate victims in the WTC. Cutting edge radio frequency sniffers from Lucent Technologies were used to try and track down wireless phone devices. Betlehem was tired of the Swedish politicians who said that they were gonna help Isaak but yet didn t do anything besides saying that they would. She also was tired of the Eritrean government who had imprisoned Isaak without a trial. Betlehem was furious, she came to the conclusion that nobody was gonna do shit for her and her family. The only option left was to take the matter in her own hands. Betlehem was by this time only 20 years old but she was determined to get her dad out of prison or at least get him a fair trial. His speech got standing ovations from the 12,000 people who had come to Medborgarplatsen in Stockholm. But besides a scripted speech that was made for Bodström to look good, nothing new happened regarding Isaaks situation in Eritrea. Nobody even knew if he was alive anymore. Even though Betlehem and Jacob had got a little family of their own with 2 wonderful kids, the hole after her dad was still huge. The 2 kids who were 4 and 2 years old had often wondered where their grandfather was. This put a lot of pressure on Betlehem and Jacob, what was they supposed to tell them? That a corrupt government had imprisoned their grandfather without giving him a trial and that he was in solitary confinement? They stuck to the story that Dawit Isaak was on a long vacation . Betlehem realized that nothing was gonna get done from
  • 11. Argumentative Essay On Beauty The earliest evidence of beauty devices were found in the ruins in Babylon. Not only the women, but also the men wore eye shadow, curled their hair, brushed on eyeliner, darkened their lashes, and used henna for nail colour. Beginning with the sixteenth century, women used white lead on their faces so they could look pale, and they used lye to lighten their hair, which then fell out so that wigs had to be used. Although modern beauty regimes may not be as archaic, as uncomfortable, or as dangerous, the desire to make ourselves, what we feel is, better than natural, has made a bulging one hundred and sixty billion dollar a year industry not only for women, but also for men. Sadly, some populations in some countries spend more on cosmetics and beautifying regimes and research for those products than is spent on education. Perfumes, hair products, make up, lotions, powders are one thing, but add to the mix cosmetic surgery to go along with the obsession to look better than we are and we have a generation of people who are obsessed about looking picture perfect. What is the thing with beauty regimes that attempt to give you the miraculous natural look? Is it only because of personal vanity that so much is spent on beauty? Not necessarily. Studies have been done that show people will judge others based on their attractiveness, i.e., if one is perceived attractive one will get a better job, will be waited on faster at establishments, will earn more money, and will be more

Even in the acknowledgement in the weakening of the Nazi Army, the producer shows a strong unified force (1:19:20). Producer, Leni Riefenstahl, was born in Berlin and following the Nazi Army closely. The Triumph of will was her biggest success, which became famous during the war but shortly lost following once the war was complete. This is because the film was considered propaganda for Hitler, and the Nazi s. In my opinion, this is a fair classification, as it shows a bias point of view of the

INTRODUCTION 1.1. Difficulties with traditional RDBMS In the initial stages of evolution of databases, relational databases systems was designed as a solution to the problems of flat file databases. A relational database stores data in multiple table. This technique helped to overcome the issues like data duplication, data noise and inconsistency which ensured that the data is entered and stored only once. Later as the data grew in size, it became a challenging task to handle such a significantly large amount of data. Key features like high data velocity, data variety, data volume and data complexity are few important reasons which the traditional database systems failed to handle successfully. As a result NoSQL came into

I will also be arguing that despite the United Kingdom being a democratic society, it is falling below democratic standards. At present, social media is one of the most powerful tools in shaping people s perceptions on political ideologies, and therefore will be evaluating the extent it plays on policies as well as social conscience. The United Kingdom has two main political parties, the Conservative party and the Labour party. Although the political system in the UK has always been a multiparty system, ultimately it is either of these parties which shape policies in Britain. They have several differences on many key issues and principles. On the political spectrum, the labour party belongs to the centre left of the centre with socialistic ideology whereas the Conservative party sits at the centre right of the political spectrum with their primary philosophies of British unionism, Euroscepticism, Conservatism and Economic Liberalism. The Conservatism ideology stands firmly against the ideals of Liberalism and Socialism. The labour party (left wing) aim to support people who are unable to support themselves and believe in equality. Conservative party (right wing) value equity, economic freedom and freedom to succeed. Like how the Democrats lost control of Texas, it seems that the Republicans are heading down the same road. Compared to the decline of the Democrats in the 1970 s, Republicans seem to be shifting away from the values of the majority. They, like the Democrats near the end of the 20th century, are starting to become a party without a message. Their views are slowly becoming meaningless in the eyes of the majority. If Republicans are to maintain their dominance in Texas, they must start addressing issues that not only pertain to white (Anglos) voters, but to African American and Hispanic voters as well. Texas has become a majority minority state. It has drastically diversified since the end of the 20th century and with that diversification comes different viewpoints on state (and even national) issues. Eventually, Democrats will begin to leech off the mistakes Republicans are currently committing. They will start to address more progressively acts of liberalism and reform that appeals to minority voters while also attacking issues that reside within the white Anglo community. Simply put, Democrats will become competitive in Texas once they give Hispanic and African Americans a reason to vote and be active in Texas politics. Over time, the Democratic Party will once again re emerge as a competitive force in the political

For the Irish, the American dreams and promises weren t just ideas and hopes, they were the way to a new beginning in America, a way to start over and forget the horrifying past they encountered. The Irish struggled day after day to pay for fair travel to America. To many people, the challenge the Irish overcame seemed to deserve praise. Today, the Irish are honored and commemorated for their hard work and desire for a better life. The start of the Irish peoples struggles began when the British came and destroyed their way of life. The potato crop failed time and time again. Irish people began to lose hope in receiving better living conditions, but the shipping lanes opened to America after they had been closed by the war (Philip). Irish began to think of the American dream and promise. The American dream and promise changes a nations state of mind. It originally comes from the Declaration of Independence. The promise is all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights. The dream: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. All of which were things the Irish desired (Pendry). According to Philips, between 1815 and 1816, around 20,000 Irish traveled to the Americas. These emigrants were mostly professionals and shopkeepers, because farmers couldn t afford travel. Over the next two decades shipping fees continued to have outrageous prices, but between 1823 and 1825 more people, such as the merchants and farmers, were able to travel because free passage and land grants were allowed to Catholics. The largest emigration was in 1827 when nearly 400,000 Irish traveled to the Americas on Coffin Ships; overcrowded ships filled
  • 32. The Social Responsibility Of The Workplace Introduction Archie Carroll defines corporate social responsibility (CSR) as the social responsibility of business encompassing the economic, legal, ethical, and discretionary expectations that society has of these organizations at a given point in time. (Crane, 5) Interesting enough, there has been an abrupt growth of firm s engagement in CSR within all industries. This is the result of growing requests from the civil society demanding firms, of all sizes, to legitimize their practices. (Crane, 4) More importantly, workplace issues have become an integral part of corporate social responsibility. This includes a firm s lacking efforts in its occupational health and safety, and its fair pay and conditions, amongst others. (Crane, 253) As employees reside in the midst of companies engaging in corporate social responsibility, the reputation of the firm relies profoundly on ensuring all those within the in house workplaces as well as the outsourced workplaces are treated justly and within the operating country s legislation. (Crane, 253) Further to this, social injustice that occurs can negatively affect the firm s reputation and brand favorability. (Crane, 254) Therefore, it was within the firm s best interests to fulfill their core corporate responsibilities in the workplace. Albeit corporations may have the intention to act within labour standards, circumstances do arise where the rights of employees are neglected and the morality of the firm is questioned. The Past of

Theory of Opposition Essay Theory of Opposition In looking at the reasoning and theories of different philosophers throughout history, we see numerous themes develop which play various and sometimes very significant roles in each philosopher s arguments. In their discussions of the cause or source of the universe as well as those regarding the relationships that exist inherently in nature, we see the different thinkers utilize themes such as unity, change and opposition. While many philosophers may employ one or many of these such themes, it is important to note that, often, the significance, interpretation and specific roles of these themes will vary from one philosopher to another. Rather, Anaximander believes, the universeis the result of four elements in opposition to eachother. He proposes that Thales water is just one element among many and, therefore, is limited. He sets forth the four elements, essentilly, as being dry, moist, hot and cold. He utilizes this theory of the four elements in opposition to account for the balance that occurs in nature. It is this opposition, he believes, that keeps order to the universe. Were they not in opposition to eachother, any one of the elements would be unbounded and would cancel out the others. The importance of opposition in Anaxamander s argument is summed up in a statement of Aristotle s regarding Anaximander s assertions. Aristotle tells us that ...they are in opposition to one another air is cold, water is moist, and fire hot and, therefore, if any one of them were unbounded, the rest would have ceased to be by this time... Anaximander s warring opposites commit injustice upon eachother and this relationship is evident in such natural phenomena as the cyclical revolution of the seasons. In his theory, it is interesting to note, however, that Anaximander does not rely solely on the theory of opposition. Although opposition is central to his argument, he does introduce the superior, unbounded, unifying factor of Time. The next philosopher I will discuss with regard to this topic is Heraclitus. The way Heraclitus uses the theme of opposition is

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All that s required to see if a person is mentally healthy is if they fulfil the defined criteria, making it easier to define mental health as there is a set of conditions to be satisfied. However, this definition assumes that the absence of one of these conditions implies abnormality. In reality a number of the criteria are quite difficult to achieve e.g. actualisation is reached by only a few people in life. If this definition is applied most people would be deemed as abnormal. Also it is not always clear what some of the conditions mean in practice e.g. accurate view of reality. It s not certain what this refers to given that reality is a product of each individuals mind. For example, a soldier in Afghanistan would have a different reality to that of an accountant in London. The definition of what is mentally healthy varies across cultures. The categories of ideal mental health cannot be generalised to all cultures. Some of the criteria are based on Western ideas which are not shared by all cultures of the world for example there s an emphasis on autonomy which is a particularly western idea. Some cultures place a great deal of emphasis on collective responsibility. Deviation from social norms is behaviour that violates implicit and explicit rules and moral standards of a given society. For example; paedophilia and sexual exhibitionism violates moral standards concerning sexual behaviour in British society. Norms are unwritten rules created by society

It would have been nice to hear more bass notes in the pieces, yet I understand how challenging that can be with such a few number of male performers. The first physical response that I had while listening to the medley with Living on a Prayer in it, was goosebumps. However, there are consequences to these advances. With people clamoring every year to get their hands on the newest iteration of their electronic devices, whether it be the latest iPhone, a more advanced computer or a high definition television society must confront the problems it has created by its own desire for technology. As consumers purchase newer and better version of their old electronics the question of what happens to the old ones is raised. In 2005 alone, it was estimated that Americans disposed of two million tons of electronic products a year and that by 2010 that number would grow to four hundred million annually (Eilperin). This rate of disposal leaves behind piles of unwanted electronic devices and while many of these devices end up in junk drawers there are many more that end up in landfills where their toxic metal innards contaminate drinking water and soil. Or, devices are left to go to seed in some lonely warehouse long since abandoned by its own and there is always the possibility of devices being exported to poor countries where recycling regulations are lacks. The Disappearance Of The Lost Colony In 1587, one hundred ten people, including seventeen women and nine children, sailed from Plymouth, England, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to start a new life on the Outer Banks. This colony of over one hundred people disappeared from the Roanoke Island region, never to be seen again (Kramer 2). For over 400 years, historians and archeologists have attempted to determine what happened. Although there are several popular theories regarding the disappearance of the Lost Colony, the theory with the most evidence for being accurate is the migration theory. The two previous expeditions that had been sent to this region by Sir Walter Raleigh had been unsuccessful in establishing a settlement. The first group had simply returned to England. The second group had left fifteen men to stay on the island to start a colony. The third group had expected to find these men when they arrived, but the logs of Fort Raleigh had been pulled down. One corpse was found and it became clear that the destiny of the others was not good, and none had survived ( The Lost Colony of Roanoke 2). Prior to their departure from England in1587, the third group of colonists was misled about the area they were sent to. When telling people about my book most people cannot get past the fact that the protagonist is my mother, but her narcissistic personality is what created the storyline for my entire text. She has many of the classic attributes of a narcissist, my favorite (from a writer s perspective) is her immense lack of empathy. It is extremely incredible that what little empathy she can find she can control based on who she is with and what the specific circumstances are. While the book may shed light on some of the negative things she has done in her past or the negative behaviors associated with her narcissismI have been sure to include an entire chapter detailing my belief that narcissism should be considered an objective personality type. Narcissism has an enormous amount of negative connotation surrounding it which is ironic to be because there are positive attributes some of which many of us share. The article mentioned, Most of us have elements of all three, when referring to the three main personality types of erotics, obsessives, and narcissists (Maccoby). I agree with Maccoby which is why I think it is important that we continue to find a place in the workplace for those who are narcissistic and abrasive because even though we may not agree with their style we must welcome diversity in order to avoid groupthink. I think that ensuring a well balanced mix of personalities in a workplace can boost production and allow leaders to rise from the shadows of abrasive and narcissistic leaders who may have overstayed their welcome. Another benefit to maintaining the abrasive personality in the workplace is to encourage the high achiever in the room who may have the leadership skills to take over a conversation and just need the right opportunity to do so. If a high achiever gets fed up with another s behavior it may serve as a catalyst for his/her management of the group. If an abrasive worker is also a brilliant one, then we must give him/her a chance to find success within the organization. If one allows his/her personality to get in the way of success,

The different shortcomings of traditional performance measurement have been discussed extensively in literature. One of these laws was the Alternative Mortgage Transaction Parity Act of 1982, an act that permitted the creation of adjustable rate mortgages, balloon mortgages, and negative amortization mortgages. Compare And Contrast St. Thomas Aquinas St. Thomas Aquinas and In Search of the Good St. Thomas Aquinas is one of the most prominent and prevalent figures of the Catholic Church, whose very philosophy and doctrine has served to shape Christian understanding of morality, ethics, and faith. In his time, his profound philosophy and words were called dangerous and radical, but today, many praise them as revolutionary and a true embodiment of Christ s message. In fact Pope Leo XIII once said of him: And truly such is Thomas Aquinas, not only for the completeness, balance, depth, and clarity of his style , but still more for his keen sense of fidelity to the truth, which can also be called realism. Fidelity to the voice of created things so as to construct the edifice of philosophy fidelity to the voice of the Church so as to construct the edifice of theology. Theme Of Language In The Film A Clockwork Orange Language in both literature and film is a profound part, which takes its reader or viewer on a journey and develop their perception of characters. A Clockwork Orange deals with the brilliant usage of language in both novel and film. Anthony Burgess the writer of the novel A Clockwork Orange uses language to create a buffer, to indicate alliances with a specific social group and lastly, to embroil the reader in the action. Stanley Kubrick the screenwriter of the film A Clockwork Orange believes language is the least important aspect in a film so instead to create the same effects that Burgess creates through language, Kubrick s uses cinematic techniques to achieve the same effect. This essay will explore and examine the function and techniques... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only characters who uses nadsat, is Alex and his friends thus, making is easy for the reader to differentiate between teenage gang members and older mature citizens. Colloquialism creates a community and Burgess uses language to make the reader feel as though they are part of this gang. In the prison there is a direct contrast to who is part of this social group, and who is not. Dr Brodsky tells Alex you can t get the better of us (Burgess, Morrison, 2000:86), to which Alex replies grahzny bratchnies (Burgess, Morrison, 2000:86). Not only is this a way to differentiate gangs from normal society, but also an indication of which character are teenagers and which are grownups, keeping the language exuberant in its inventiveness (Nixon, 2010:8). Different from Burgess Language alliance technique, Kubrick also indicate alliances with a social group by means of the visual representation of Alex and his friends. From the beginning of the film, there is a clear indication of who part of the gang, and who is not. Alex and his friends wear white long sleeved shirts, and white trousers (Kubrick, 1971), separating them form the rest of society and making it clear for the viewer to distinguish between the characters .Kubrick intentionally chooses these costumes for Alex and his friends to separate them from the rest of
  • 51. The Removal, By Vasco Pratolini Vasco Pratolini was born on Via de Magazzini in Florence, Italy in 1913. Growing up poor between the two world wars, he grew to understand Florence and its inhabitants in a way that would later shine in nearly all of his novels and stories. Pratolini relies on making himself seen through his stories as well. A self taught writer, Pratolini grew up in a poor family. In his short story The Removal , Vasco describes the plight of he and his grandmother as they are forced out of their apartment when a wealthier couple decides to move in. This is just one example of how Pratolini s stories sway towards the autobiographical. Two of Pratolini s most famous works, Metello and Family Chronicle are representations of Pratolini s morals and personal beliefs in Matello, and life experiences in Family Chronicle. Vasco Pratolini was a self taught man. Too poor to attend a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vasco s mother died giving birth to his younger brother, Dante. His father, unable to care for his sons and remarry, sends Dante to a wealthy butler and Vasco to his poor grandmother. A major theme of the book is how Dante, later renamed Ferruccio, grew up wealthy but Vasco has the strong character of a man who grew up with his familial relatives. Vasco uses the novel to reflect on his own personal feelings towards his brother. Early in the brother s relationship, his character says when speaking about him, You, in that sense, belonged to her. You were dead with her(13) . This is an insight Vasco provided to his childhood self when remembering why he disliked his younger brother for many years. At the end of the book, the writer, selfishly in his eyes, sends his fatally ill brother from his home in Rome back to Florence because he wanted to remember you alive(50) . The autobiographical novel gave Vasco a chance to express his feelings over his brother s death, both for himself and for others suffering as he
  • 52. Morality In The Film Do The Right Thing The title itself Do The Right Thing is oxymoronic because nobody in the film does the right thing. This can be said about even now. The people in the film thought that by burning down the pizzeria a change would happen, just like now how the rioters in Chicago and St. Louis. In the film you get a sense of familiarity because the scenery you see in the filmis the same as what you see around you. Bed Stuy represent all of the black neighborhoods in America that are middle class or poor. The movie show the characters as contradictory human beings. Sal owns a pizzeria pizza in a majority African American neighborhood, but utters racial slurs to Radio Raheem and Buggin. Sal proved that Malcolm X s Theory that white people can still be allies to black people but inherently racist and still have the mindset that they are more superior to black people. Did Sal s pizzeria symbolize the lingering white supremacy in Bed Stuy? I believed that Sal s pizzeria symbolized the beginning gentrification of the predominantly ... You control your own economy; you control your own politics; you control your own society; you control your own everything. You have yours and you control yours; we have ours and we control ours. Malcolm X But we as African American didn t own our own politics, economy or even a piece of society and we still don t. For an example in Bed Stuy the only businesses we saw were owned by Sal and a Korean couple. I see connections between the Korean stores/Pizzeria in Mookie s neighborhood and the black neighborhoods in Cleveland and the Jewish run store in Malcolm X s neighborhood. In the majority black neighborhood in Cleveland you rarely see stores own or run by African Americans but by Middle Easterners and South Indians. The same with Malcolm X, in his Autobiography he expressed his disdain of how Jewish businessman owned businesses in the African American
