Marriott International, Inc vs Starwood Hotels Resorts...
1Executive summary
This paper analyses and compares two major global hotel chains, Marriott International, Inc. and
Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide, Inc. Both chains have extensive investments in and outside
the US. They have very strong brand names and are quite competitive. However they differ in their
strategies, like the market segment each one targets, the role of technology in the business, the
financial efficiency of their systems etc. The paper discusses the extent of globalisation that each
firm has taken and what is their strategy in terms of global expansion. The paper also analyses the
benefits and demerits each chain faces as a result of the individual strategy they had adopted. They
also analysed the effect the recent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5Critical Factor Analysis
5.1Critical Factors of Marriott s Global Success
5.1.1High Brand Recognition
Marriott is well known for its strong brand portfolio in all the major markets around the world,
through its luxury brand like Marriott Hotels Resorts, and mid priced brands like Courtyard. As
global communication increases, these highly recognized brands are definitely the first choice for
many businessmen and travellers, for their global reputation and guaranteed quality.
5.1.2Technical Factor
Marriott adopts a series of technical programs to support its customer service. One of them is
Marriott s Automated Reservation System for Hotel Accommodations (MARSH), which include a
database of all its customers around the world.2 When a guest enters the Marriott in New York, the
system recognizes that she stayed in Courtyard Tokyo last month and then she would receive a
personalized service. This way Marriott can provide a better customer service through information
technology, which is better than its competitors.
5.1.3Economy Factor
The hotel industry is highly dependent on the economic scenarios. In the past few years, the fast
developing economy in Asia had strong positive influence on Marriott s globalization. The Asia
Pacific hotels industry grew by 21.7% in 2008 to reach a value of $116.5 billion. 4 While the hotel
industry in US is almost mature and

Due Process Model Versus Crime Control Model
Does the protection of many, outweigh the rights of an individual? That is the ultimate debate
between the crime control model, and the due process model. Although, if we break down the two
models, both would be needed in a perfect society. Now, choosing which I would prefer over the
other, I would prefer to have the crimecontrol model, as the standard in all criminal justicesystems
across the globe. The reason for this is, I would rather see the protection of my fellow society,
and being able to walk the streets freely, and be less worried. However, with me choosing that
side, I still would prefer to have both implemented correctly, and even change some of the steps in
each process, to try and make both processes more efficient, than how... Show more content on

Now the pros of this model is that the whole process is suppose to be accelerated. Causing the police
force, and the courts to convict those guilty, or release the innocent back into society. The faster
this process is, the more time and effort the police force would be able to exert to lower the
overall crime rate in a city. Packer really showed this support by stating, all of the components of
the criminal justice system must work together to increase the capacity to apprehend, try, convict,
and dispose of a high proportion of criminal offenders whose offenses become known. (p. 40).
Cons of this model however, can be rather horrifying in thought. The main con would be that,
even if you are innocent, you may still be convicted in a crime. It almost every aspect, if
something is incredibly fast and efficient, the accuracy will diminish. Although convictions will
increase, the chances of being wrongfully accused would tarnish the society. Instead of having to
worry about crime in general, the society would have to be worried to not be accused for anything.
In a weird comparison, the society would turn into a town like Salem, in which although you are
innocent, because you were accused you will be

A Experiment On Separation And Purification Methods
This experiment introduces separation and purification methods used in research quite frequently.
These methods include hot vacuum filtration and recrystallization to purify a crude sample of
acetanilide containing two impurities. Recrystallization is a very common method that is used to
purify solids. This process dissolves a crude solidwith impurities in a mildly boiling solvent, and
cooling down the mixture afterwards for crystals to reconstruct themselves in solution. This method
allows impurities to separate and remain in solution as precipitate or remain uniform in solution.
Solids are more soluble in hot solvents than in cold ones, allowing maximum dissolution for proper
separation and subsequent crystallization to occur. After purifying the compound, the melting point
is determined using the Mel Temp technology to compare to the written melting point to see how
pure the sample truly is. The proper steps of recrystallization include selecting a solvent that fits
the characteristic of all the components, water in this experiment. Then, dissolving a crude sample
in the chosen solvent (at or close to the solvent boiling point), forming solid in the solution as
cooling takes place, using vacuum filtration to isolate the purified solid, ridding the crystals of all
impurities through drying. In this experiment, recrystallization allows purification of 150 mg of
crude acetanilide. Hot vacuum filtration is a process used. The process requires using a filter flask,

Football Reflection
In this story, I am going to share an experience with you about a lesson that I learned last year
during the football season. It will include some graphic details, a deeper look into my thoughts and
feelings, and much more. This is the story that helped change my whole mindset of football. This is
what Friday night lights is all about.
During the last football season, I suffered an injury that I thought was going to affect me in such a
negative way. But it turns out, even though it was one of the most painful things I ve experienced,
it ended up being one of the best things to happen to me. My whole mindset on the game of
football changed for the better, and it made me into the great player I am today.
It was homecoming night against the powerhouse Taylorville, it was cold, rainy, and the field
turned into a swamp of mud, sweat, and blood. It was time for the game to start. Taylorville came
out on offense and on the very first play of the game, Parker Stokes ran a 63 yard touchdown. It was
one of the many spirit breakers of the night. It was time for us to return the favor, we came out
on offense on the 20 yard line. We had 80 yards to go, and it felt more like 1,000. With all the
rain we couldn t pass the ball, so we handed the ball off to our all star running back Terrence Hill,
we drove the ball 56 yards on 6 plays. We were doing great until all of a sudden nothing went right
for us. We got stuffed at the line of scrimmage on the next two plays and then, the

The Challenge For Property Qualifications For Voting
One basis of political democracy in this period was the challenge to property qualifications for
voting. It began in the American Revolution but culminated in the early nineteenth century. After
the Revolution, no new state required property ownership to vote, and in older states, constitutional
conventions in the 1820s and 1830s abolished property qualifications, partly because the growing
number of wage earners who did not own much property demanded the vote. In the South, however,
where large slave owners dominated politics and distrusted mass democracy, property requirements
were eliminated only gradually and disappeared quite late, by 1860. The personal independence
required of the citizen was henceforth located not in owning property but in owning one s self, a
reflection of this period s individualism.
The single exception to this democratizing trend was Rhode Island, which required voters to own
considerable real estate or rental property. The state was a center of factory production, and many
wage earners could not vote. In 1841, reformers met at a People s Convention and drafted a new
state constitution that gave the vote to all adult men and stripped it from blacks. When the
convention illegally ratified the constitution and inaugurated lawyer Thomas Dorr as governor,
president John Tyler dispatched federal troops to the state, and the movement collapsed.
By 1840, more than 90 percent of adult white men could vote. By then, America had a vibrant
democratic system

Susan B. Anthony As A Teacher Or Writer
Susan B. Anthony once said, I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of
man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand. Leader, dreamer, and believer
are three words that could easily be connected with Anthony. She consistently pursued and believed
that her dream of equality would someday come true, and led others away from a conflicting and
unjust society. Most people know Susan B. Anthonyas a teacher or writer, but she has done so much
more than that. Considering her many contributions to women s rights, readers can conclude that
Susan B. Anthony devoted her life to numerous associations as well as other movements. She
depicted an impact and change in her legacy as an American civil rights hero.
Born in Adams, Massachusetts, Susan Brownell Anthony became the second of eight children on
February 15, 1820 (history.com). Growing up, Susan B. Anthony learned that women were
discouraged from voicing their views (Lifer 299). Anthony developed a sense of independence as
well as moral zeal starting at an early age, which helped her realize the need for equal rights
granted to women (Encyclopedia Americana 39). In her earlier life, reformers would gather in the
family home near Rochester, New York, and this influenced her views on social betterment in
America (Encyclopedia Americana 39). Anthony had excellent education at a time when most men
were against women learning, and she began a career as a teacher (Cooper 12). As a teacher

Puritanism and Pragmatism Essay
Although they lived on the same continent, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin lived in very
different worlds. These men are similar in some respects, but overwhelmingly they are different.
For example, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin can be considered leaders in their time frame.
Winthrop led the Puritans; Franklin led his country to war. Both men also possessed many of the
same virtues such as patience and work ethic. Despite these similarities, John Winthrop and
Benjamin Franklinhad a different style of living and a different philosophy of life. These
differences are most notable in regards to religion, economics, and science. Perhaps the greatest
difference between Winthrop and Franklin was their view of religion.... Show more content on

The initial New England ideal of a closely knit, covenanted community proved difficult to maintain
in the face of economic growth (52). The region began to grow not only in population, but also in
prosperity. The Puritans were expected to support the church by giving money to their ministers.
The later generations born in Massachusetts Bay were more interested in keeping their wealth than
fearing the wrath of God. New England merchants were accused of making too much money;
they began to want relief and freedom from the straitjacket of Puritanism. The life of Benjamin
Franklin is a typically rags to riches story. He knew that hard work would pay off in the end, and
by the age of forty two he had accumulated sufficient wealth to reach his goal of the В‘free and
easy life (54). Unlike Winthrop, Franklin believed that the money one earns is rightfully his own.
Winthrop s and Franklin s economic philosophies reflected the time period in which they lived. A
final difference between Winthrop and Franklin dealt with their notions of science. Naturally, for
the Puritans, science meshed with religion. It says on page 60, Nature was God s handiwork; its
processes showed the effect of His guidance. Consequently, to study natural phenomena was to
observe the wisdom, power, and glory of God. Science for the Puritan mind was an act of worship.
On the other hand, Franklin was determined to understand how things work; he

Exploring The Benefits And Difficulties Of Travel Accounts
To understand the benefits and difficulties of travel accounts as primary sources, they need to be
clearly defined and placed into their context. The main primary sources in I will be studying are
British travel accounts produced between 1790 and 1800. Tim Young provides the basics for
travel accounts stating, The guiding principle of this book is that travel writing consists of
predominantly factual, first person prose of travels that have been undertaken by the author
narrator. It includes discussion of works that some may regard as genre in their own rights... but
it distinguishes these from other types of narrative in which travel ins narrated by a third party or
is imagined. Young s description of travel narratives allows for accounts that were viewed as
accurate in their time such as Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travels. Young and Elizabeth Bohls
demonstrate the ability for travel narratives to be a combination of several literature genres, and
the focus is on the aspects of the traveler rather than the construction of the work in a literary sense.
Linda Colley described the process of analysis the documents, But it needs stressing from the start
that, while these texts sometimes contain fictional interludes, together of course with a tithe of lies
and errors, their overall factual anchorage can usually be tested. Colley s testing involves
comparing accounts and checking references to outside sources and events. This also involves also
being critical with those

Theme Of Death In The Veldt
The Suspenseful Death in The Veldt
This suspense story The Veldt written by Ray Bradbury, is about the overuse of technology. In this
writing, the characters; Lydia and George have given their children all they could ask for but what
happens at the end would be a parents worst nightmare. As the story comes to an end Peter and
Wendy locked the parents in the nurseryto become the lions tasty lunch. Bradbury creates suspense
through the use of sensory details and foreshadowing.
One unusual day George and Lydia wander into their children s nursery confused on the
appearance of lions and vultures. The couple observes a pride of lions heading to the watering
hole after finishing the lunch. The author describes the dead carcasses circling around the body.
The reader can infer that things that happen in the nursery have to do with death. A few moments
later, Lydia observes the lions and realizes that the lions might be a little too real to be virtual
reality. The lions feeding and other actions looked like more than what a fake lion would do. Later
in the story Lydia and George are standing near the nursery confused about the lions when Lydia
hears a scream. Startled, she asks George if he heard it too. Surprisingly, George did not hear
anything. As the story progresses the couple hears the screams two more times. The screams are
unusually familiar to George and Lydia. At the end George and Lydia realize the screams were
their own. Bradbury describes the lions to allow

Rock Candy History
Rock Candy (also called rock sugar) is a type of confection composed of relatively large sugar
crystals. This candy is formed by allowing a supersaturated solution of sugar and water to
crystallize onto a surface suitable for crystal nucleation, such as a string, stick, or plain granulated
sugar. Heating the water before adding the sugarallows more sugar to dissolve thus producing larger
crystals. Crystals form after 6 7 days. Foodcoloring may be added to the mixture to produce colored
candy.
Rock candy is often dissolved in tea. It is an important part of the tea culture of East Frisia, where
a lump of rock sugar is placed at the bottom of the cup. Rock candy consumed with tea is also the
most common and popular way of drinking tea in Iran.

The Case Of Dukes V. Wal Mart Stores, Inc. Essay
SUMMARY
In the case of Dukes v. Wal Mart Stores, Inc., the District Court of the Ninth Circuit certified a
class of 1.5 million females currently and formerly employed by Wal Mart Stores, Inc. The
plaintiff class sought injunctive and declaratory relief, punitive damages, and back pay; due to the
alleged violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act in regards to alleged discrimination against
female employees in promotions and wages. In Wal Mart Stores, Inc. v. Dukes, the petitioner filed
an appeal to the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and then the United States Supreme Court to
challenge the class certification s validity as well as the class s entitlement to monetary relief
under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23.
QUESTIONS PRESENTED
Under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23(b)(2) can claims for monetary relief be certified and if
so, under what circumstance; and was the class defined by the district court in Dukes v. Wal Mart
Stores, Inc. consistent with Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23(a)?
BRIEF ANSWER
No. The certification of the plaintiff class in Dukes v. Wal Mart Stores, Inc. was not consistent
with Rules 23(a), because the class does not have enough commonality in the nature of their
discrimination question to prove the alleged reasons for those decisions in promotion and wages.
Additionally, the class s backpay claims were not properly certified under Rule 23(b)(2) because the
rule only can apply when a single, indivisible remedy would provide relief

Clarence s Speech in William Shakespeare s Richard III Essay
Clarence s Speech in William Shakespeare s Richard III
The speech I am going to be examining is from one of Shakespeare s plays, Richard III. It is the
part of the play where George, Duke of Clarence is explaining a prophetic nightmare he had whilst
being locked in the Tower of London.
Richard III was a real king of England, but had been killed in battle, around 100 years prior to
when Shakespeare wrote this play. At the time of writing, in 1594, the queen was Elizabeth I, a
Tudor. One of the Queens ancestors, Henry VII, had killed Richard III on Bosworth Field.
Shakespeare, to make sure he was in favour with the Queen, made Richard s character into a
complete villain, as well as physically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helps to build up drama and create a vivid picture in the minds of those watching the plays.
This was especially important in the Elizabethan times, as stages had limited scenery and special
effects.
The beginning of Clarence s speech is full of warnings and phrases that suggest death. He begins
his speech telling Brackenbury that, in his dream, he thought he had broken from the Tower and
was on a ship to Burgundy with Richard. He says Richard tempted him to walk over the deck. The
word tempted is a word often used when talking of the devil as the devil tries to lure people into
sin. When Clarence uses this word to describe Richard s actions, it is like if Richard is being
described as devil like.
He then says that he and Richard looked towards England, and recalled a thousand heavy times,
during the wars of York and Lancaster, that had befallen us. A thousand is an exaggeration, but it
shows that Clarence is being warned of more bad things to come. This sets the mood of the speech.
It is full of warnings and sentences suggesting bad times.
Clarence says Methought that Gloucester stumbled, and in falling, struck me . This is a
forewarning that Richard is going to cause Clarence to suffer in the future. When Clarence says
methought it shows that he is a bit doubtful as to whether it was an accident or not. He thinks that it
was an accident when he

Key Results Of Testing For Ppp
5 Empirical Findings
5.1 Introduction
Following the methodology section, this chapter is going to present the main findings of the
PPP test and relevant information, graphs and tables will be shown as well. The purpose of this
part is to provide key results of testing for PPP in order to facilitate the following detailed
discussions. It is no doubt that this section can be viewed as the core of the whole project
because it depends on a variety of econometric tools to evaluate the financial data. The findings
consist of two major aspects: the one is on the examine of the APPP, namely the strong version of
PPP; the other is on the test of the RPPP, also known as the weak form of PPP.
5.2 Findings of Testing for APPP
As stated earlier, the APPP is based on the law of one price, stating that the real exchange rateis
equal to one. The formula is expressed as:
For the convenience of our research, the equation above can be simplified to:
where Et represents the nominal bilateral exchange rate, Pt* is the CPI in Japan, Pt means the
Indian CPI.
Before analysing, what should do is to transmute the raw data into the natural logarithm form.
According to Jia and Rathi (2008), the major cause of transformation is that taking natural
logarithms not only indicates the elasticity of economic variables, but eliminates the issue of
heteroscedasticity efficiently. If an econometric model is heteroscedastic, the test of significance
for variables will be meaningless and the parameter

Analysis Of The Odissi Dance From Dominican Republic

Indian Dance
Due : 6 January 2017
Differences Bring You Closer
For centuries upon centuries, dance has been used as a form as expression. Whether it be
religiously to please and entertain the gods, or as a form of entertainment for the townspeople, dance
has brought joy to countless people. Because dance doesn t leave a written history trail it is
assumed, but not proven, to have originated over 2500 years ago. However, dance continues to
evolve even today. Take for example the odissi dance from India that is almost two thousand years
old versus the bachata dance from Dominican Republic that is only about 50 years old. Both of
these dances originated in complete separate parts of the world at very ... Show more content on

Odissi dance was held to a very high esteem not only by commoners, for even royalty were
expected to be great dancers of this kind. However, as a sensual dance of great passion, love, and
joy, it doesn t come to be a great surprise that after the 17th century odissi dance took a turn for
the worse. The dancers went from being admired to being known as prostitutes and whores; it
was a dark time for odissi dance as it came very close to being extinct. Nevertheless, India
Independence Day marked an enormous change due the recognition that culture and dance was
essential to unifying India once again. Many individuals then set out to revive odissi dance for the
better (Nirmal). Odissi dance has since then taken on many different forms and has even split into
three different schools: mahari, nartaki, and gotipua. Mahari dance is the traditional form of odissi
used in rituals; narthaki dance was developed in the royal courts; and gotipua dance is the form of
odissi where males wear female costumes and assume those roles (Courtney).
One of the main differences between these dances is the purpose and symbolism. While odissi
dance has been used for entertainment it is a classical temple dance. It is used in rituals and has
originally been created for the Divine, bachata on the other hand is the complete opposite. It
symbolizes freedom from one of the worst dictatorships Dominican Republic has ever seen and a

Introduction
An all encompassing definition for age discrimination in the workplace is the practice of excluding
applicants for hire or promotion based on the age of the individual. Related to the factor of age, age
discrimination is an approach that does not focus on skill levels and job competency, and places
emphasis on the calendar age of the individual.(Fundamentals of Human
Resource Management, 2016)
In today s workplace, employers have to be attentive in staying compliant with an immense number
of laws and regulations. Reducing employment and regulatory risk can be the difference between
success and failure in today s competitive marketplace. Over the past decade there has been a rise
of complaints concerning age discrimination in the workplace. There are many keys to business

Literary Devices In The Snows Of Mount Kilimanjaro
The story, The Snows of Mount Kilimanjaro, by Ernest Hemingway opens up with a description of
Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (Downie 1). The
mountain is said to be where God resides, high up on the mountain. Different themes like
relationships and death flood the story. It starts with the main characterHarry, and his wife stranded
on the mountain. Hemmingway utilizes different literary devices to bring out these themes, with
the main character facing his last moments alive. The story is full of powerful literary devices.
However, it mostly portrays symbolism and flashback. Symbolism is the main literary device
that Hemingway uses throughout the story. Animal symbolism is dominant as it is what the
author uses at the beginning of the story. In a short prologue at the beginning, Hemingway talks
of a leopard carcass at the summit of the mountain. He says, Close to the Western summit there is
the dried and frozen carcass of a leopard, (Hemingway 1). The readers may find it difficult to
explain how a leopard found its way up the mountain and what exactly it was doing wandering so
high up at the summit. Hemingway uses the leopard to symbolize power, courage, and uttermost
strength, which are characters Harry had as a young man. He hopes that he will regain these
characters someday. He aspires to go back to his old ways where he was profound and of good
character during his youth, rather than the character he had developed. While both

2015). With the vomiting and loss of gastric secretions, HCO3 began to build up in the body. For
the stomach upset, the patient began to add more HCO3 formularies to the stomach, which
increased the levels of HCO3 in the body.
Pathophysiology
There are different ways that metabolic alkalosis can occur. Generally, the imbalance occurs from
a loss of hydrogen ions, a shift of hydrogen ions into the intracellular space, and administration of
antacids (Medscape, 2015). Hydrogen ions are lost from the kidneys and the gastrointestinal tract,
which occurs from vomiting and diarrhea. When hydrogen ions are excreted from the body,
bicarbonate ions are added to the intracellular space (Medscape, 2015).
Compensation Mechanism
When homeostasis is disrupted, the body will respond in several ways. Depending upon the
imbalance, the body will work to quickly correct the problem and restore the body to homeostatic
state. There are organ systems involved to correct the issues, like the renal and respiratory systems.
When the body breathes, the lungs blow off carbon dioxide that has built up in the body.
Renal Compensation In the case study, the patient was suffering with

The For Healthy Border 2010 Essay
The Healthy Border 2010 consisted of 11 focus areas with 21 objectives regarding public health
problems that the inhabitants of the US Mexico border were facing. Some of the objectives were
met and some were not. To meet the unmet objectives of health promotion and disease prevention,
the framework of Healthy Border 2020 was constructed. This framework is composed of 5 focus
areas, which are chronic and degenerative diseases; infectious diseases; maternal and child health;
substance abuse and mental health conditions; and injuries. Cancer is the second leading cause of
death world wide and cervical canceris the third most common cancer (9%) in women as well as
seventh (4%) among all cancer deaths. (Chabra 2016). One of the objectives of Healthy Border
2010 was to reduce cervical cancer death by 30%in the United States and 20% in Mexico. This
objective was not completely but about to meet in Mexico by the year 2010 however, the
cervical cancer death rate in the United States has not met its target by the deadline. Therefore,
the area of cervical cancer is an important area of concern in the US Mexico border. New objectives
for cervical carcinoma has been set in the Healthy Border 2020 . The new objectives include

Unexpectful Aspects In William Shakespeare s The Tempest
Unexpected discoveries have a profound impact on individuals, changing their perception of
themselves, others, their worlds and the current situation. As said by the scientist, Albert Szent
Gyorgi, unexpected discoveries are often made by looking at the same thing as everyone else and
thinking something different and are provoked by curiosity and wonder. Unexpected discoveries
with profound impacts are evident in William Shakespeares tragicomic play, The Tempest(1610)
where the dethroned duke of Milan plots revenge against his enemies, but unexpectedly finds
forgiveness. Likewise, in William Golding s survival novel, Lord of the Flies (1954), features a
group of British schoolboys who crash land into an island and have to govern themselves.
Unexpectedly, some of the boys question the whole notion of civilisation.
After a period of isolation, human contact may lead to profound and unexpected discoveries.
Shakespeare s characterisation of Miranda as a naive girl creates a profound impact when Miranda
uses antithesis to describe her discovery of humankind: I might call him a divine, for nothing
natural I ever saw so noble , this discovery opens up a whole new world for Miranda as she falls in
love with Ferdinand. Prospero disapproves of Miranda s affection towards Ferdinand: What I
say? My foot my tutor? Prospero s verbal irony highlights the control that he has over Miranda and
her perception of the world as her father and tutor. However, Miranda s use of a

Boxer Rebellion Causes
Explain causes of the Boxer Rebellion
The Boxer Rebellion occurred as a result of both foreign and domestic internal tensions. These
tensions were the causes of the Boxer Rebellion. China faced terrible natural disasters in 1899 and
these was the main short term on the Boxer Rebellion. These included the flooding of the Yellow
river then followed by the terrible drought. This lead to crops being destroyed and to farmers
unable to pay their taxes which damaged the economy and millions of Chinese people faced
starvation. These disasters were blamed on the Westerners and fuelled anti foreign feelings and the
Chinese believed the famine was a punishment from the gods because they were abandoning their
traditional ways and changing to European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and also gong against Confucian teachings which the Chinese followed very closely. As stated in
Source B a trouble had been brewing in China for years . The source also mentions that this is due to
foreign exploitation by various countries had continued to escalate to a point that the outright
partitioning of China into international zones seemed very likely and this led to a violent
movement among the Chinese to rid their country of foreign influence. The main long term cause
was the economic hardship China faced in the decades building up to the Boxer Rebellion. These
economic hardships included poverty, unemployment and high taxes. anti Christianity and weak
government. In the hundred years building up to the Boxer Rebellion China s government was
gradually becoming weaker and the economy was dropping. These two long term factors eventually
led to the Boxer Rebellion.
2. Assess the significance of the Boxer Rebellion for China to 1911
The Boxer rebellion had a massive impact on the Chinese culture, economy and even
geographically. These effects were both positive and negative for the near and far future of China.
The most significant short term impact it made on Chinese society was the Boxer Protocol China

The Ideas, Meanings, And Power Dynamics
The ideas, meanings, and power dynamics in the three books we read are very different, however
some similarities are present. As far as veiling, the meanings within each book are primarily
complimentary. When looking at the views on how certain affairs, such as veiling, should be
enforced and interacted with, we see more skewed ideas. In general, all three show hegemonic
qualities, yet Young and Defiant in Tehran reveals more dominating than hegemonic qualities.
Veiling is an extremely debated and controversial topic all over the world. From what has been
revealed, it can be presumed that a substantial difference of veiling across the board, is
enforcement. From Veiled Sentiments to Young and Defiant in Tehran, the differences in ideas
regarding veiling are noticeably contrasting. The three anthropology texts involved, include further
inside information and feelings regarding veiling. In Veiled Sentiments by Lila Abu Lughod,
veiling is a choice and is not forced on women. Due to the faith and freedom of choice, most
women willingly and happily veilproperly. Although sexuality is not a popular norm among the
Bedouin, it is not the sole reason for veiling. Granted, women will be criticized and mocked for not
veiling or taking part in sexual affiliations. Such mockery is described in a story where
grandmothers react to the granddaughters Western style negligees. Once the grandmothers had
found out about them, they put them on, initially embarrassing the girls,

This book introduces different types of polygons through objects we find around us everyday.
Shape Up! uses cheese slices, pretzel sticks, a slice of bread, a pencil, and more to introduce
various polygons, flat shapes with varying numbers of straight sides. Children can learn simple
geometry with this playful but informative math concept book that takes the fear out of math and
puts the fun back in. There s a wisecracking cartoon kid who accompanies readers throughout and
makes silliness and math seem to go together like pretzels and salt. It s a tremendous learning
package that will be as pleasing to math teachers as it is to the kids who will probably discover
this book on their own. The illustrations by Nancy Tobin capture the reader s eye with her colorful
and aesthetically appealing pictures.
I believe this book will be very affective because it gets children involved with geometry first hand
and lets them find shapes, not just in food, but where ever they go. Using healthy foods to learn
geometry will also develop an interest in trying new things as well. Learning shapes through an
interactive activity will help them develop a relationship with finding shapes and problem solving
without even realizing it! Developing a fun activity with a lesson engages students and captures
their full attention.

Employee Silence And Promoting Free Environment
INTRODUCTION Employees in today s society play a crucial role in the success of organizations.
They possess critical abilities of exerting creativity, innovation and change. Yet these sources of
success are not always applied, due to silence in the workplace. Breaking this employee silence and
promoting free climate to encourage speaking up are obstacles managers face. The degree of
communication and connection between managers and employees in organizations is vital when
determining organizational outcomes. Detert and Burris (2016) has found that an organization has

Comparison Of The Chrysler Building And The Seagram Building
When thinking of buildings that were ahead of their time two come to mind the Chrysler Building
and the Seagram Building. Both of these structures were built to withstand the elements of time
and are still beautiful to this day. These buildings have been featured on the cover of magazines,
tv shows and are modern marvels in today s society. Between the two buildings, one can not help
but look at the similarities as well as the differences between the two. Today I want to discuss these
differences as well as the similarities and go into greater detail on why these buildings are
significant. The Chrysler Buildingis an Art Decostyle skyscraper that was built during one of the
most severe economic downturns in this country s history. The building was finished in the year
1930 and is located in New York City. The Chrysler Building was constructed using stainless steel
over an exposed building surface which was a first for its time (History of Walter P. Chrysler and
the Chrysler Building, n.d.). The next important thing to think about when understanding the
Chrysler Building is to figure out what it was designed for. Although the building was not owned
by Chrysler it was used for the corporation s offices which used the building until the mid 1950 s

The Importance Of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that can develop after an individual
experiences or witnesses a traumatic event. PTSD is a mental disorder that people may develop
after experiencing one or more traumatic events such as acts of interpersonal violence, severe
accidents, natural disasters, or a military related experience (Gaskell, 2005). Exposure to traumatic
stressors does not always bring about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder but when symptoms prevent
an individual from participating in everyday life, they have developed the mental disorder (Ford,
2015). It is important to note that those at risk of PTSDinclude not only those who are directly
affected by a horrific event, but also witnesses to a traumatic act, perpetrators who may commit a
traumatic act, and those who help PTSD sufferers; like first responders who may experience
vicarious traumatization after helping those in need (Gaskell, 2005).

The Frist product based on network data model is Raima Database Manager (RDM). RDM is an

Raima Company in 1984 and it was one of the first microcomputer network model database

Drug Use Is Not Something That Just Happens Overnight
Drug use is not something that just happens overnight. There are many things that led up to a
person deciding they want to try a drug for the first time. It might be that they were exposed to it
at an early age and perceived it to be the norm to use them. They might have experienced peer
pressure at a party or just wanted to fit in with a certain crowd. Or they may have gotten a
prescription for one and liked the high they felt when they were on it so they wanted to find a
way to continue feeling that same high. Each situation is different, and the drugs that were most

Then the coca paste is dissolved in a small amount of dilute sulfuric acid and potassium

When cocaine is in this form it is most often snorted or mixed with water and injected into the
blood stream. The high people get from cocaine use does not last very long, which is what causes
them to binge use, and why addiction can be caused so quickly. The user is constantly chasing that
initial high and wanting it to last longer. Cocaine is a strong central nervous system stimulant that
increases levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine in brain circuits regulating pleasure and

effect can be death if the manufacturing process was not done correctly.
Learning theory is probably the best explanation as to why one would chose to use cocaine.
Cocaine produces a high that can be rewarding because of the euphoria it produces. When the high
wears off the user experiences a crash and wants the high back. They have learned through
continued use that in order to get the euphoric feeling they must continue to use the drug. Although

Security Risks Surrounding Electronic Medical Records
In this paper we identify security risks surrounding Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and discuss
strategies healthcare providers can employ to mitigate those risks. We begin with a brief overview
of the legislative history driving the rapid adoption of EMR and other health information
technology. Legislation Driving Rapid Adoption of EMR Perhaps the most important piece of
legislation relevant to our understanding of security risks surrounding EMR and health information
technology is The Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which was
signed into law in 1996 by the Clinton administration. HIPAA impacts the healthcare industry in
many ways, but of particular importance at least for our purposes of understanding security risks
surrounding EMR is HIPAA s security rule, which governs how providers must protect private
health information during the process of adopting and implementing new health information
technology such as EMR. HIPAA requires covered entities to take reasonable measures to protect
electronic private health information. HIPAA is vitally important to our understanding of EMR
risks because providers can face harsh penalties if found in violation of HIPAA. Over the next
decade, significant advances were made on the technology front, and in 2009 president Obama
signed into law The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act
(HITECH). The HITECH Act introduced the concept of meaningful use as a way to

of all park operations. This includes golf operations, the pool, concerts, nature tours and visitors,
concession operations, and administrative costs. A program budget focuses on the cost and
revenues of specific programs (Finkler, Purtell, Calabrese, Smith, 2013, pg. 76). This budget
approach helps management evaluate a program s profitability and aids in deciding if an
organization can afford this specific program. Based on total revenues and operating expenses, the
park is experiencing a loss in all program operations. According to the current annual budget, the
township will have to provide a subsidy of $597,101 to

Ronald Reag As Government Expands, Liberty Contracts Essay
Ethan MartinMartin 1
Mrs. Langerot
English 4
October 14, 2015
Ronald Wilson Reagan As government expands, liberty contracts (Ronald Reagan Quotes). Those
who know anything about Modern Politics in the United States know that Ronald Reagan is the
poster child and founder of today s Conservatism. Today s Conservatism is at its core a hybrid
between the Conservatism of Theodore Roosevelt and that of the Libertarianism of Thomas
Jefferson. Libertarians believe that the Central or Federal government should be as small as
possible. As shown in the opening quote from Ronald Reagan he firmly believed that to keep the
freedom entitled to us by the Bill of Rights, the People must constrict government to give them
as minimal amount of power as possible. Ronald Reagan is certainly a controversial figure in the
face of politics. Democrats despise him and Republicans try to mimic his policies on both
foreign and domestic stages. Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in a small
town named Tampico, Illinois. Ronald was born in an apartment on the second floor of a
commercial building. His parents were Nelle Clyde Reagan and Jack Reagan. Nelle was a devoted
Christian. A member of the Disciples of Christ denomination of Christianity. Most of her work
mostly was refined to inside the church. Helping with feeding the homeless or struggling or helping
those with Illnesses, but while she wasn t working in the church Martin 2 she could most

Theory Of Evolution By Natural Selection Research Paper
Hello class,
Q: The theory of evolution by natural selection requires variability of a given trait. Why is
variability necessary and where does it come from?
Darwin s theory of evolution and natural selection came about when he visited the Galapagos
Island and discovered that there were animals of all different types living there. While he was on
the island, he seen a variety of Finches that contained a wide range of phenotypes which happened
to be linked to their survival. On a certain part of the island he found a finche specie that adapted to
their environment due to the absent of other species on the island. Therefore they learned to able to
adapt to new niches. The food that they found required their beaks to gradually conform to the

Bogside Murals Definition
Week3 Northern Ireland Discussion
After viewing the videos on Bloody Sunday and the Bogside Murals, If I was asked to state the
possible actors who played role in the conflict of the northern Ireland that led to blood Sunday I
would mention first of all, the majority Protestants who dominated the Northern Ireland and
discriminating the minority Catholics who protested to seek for equal right and freedom from their
fellow Protestants who dominated them.
In the second way, the other players who involved themselves as political players in the Bloody
Sunday conflict were; The Irish republican army who not only opposed the sectarianism in the
northern Ireland but also fought against the discrimination. In addition to that, the British troop s ...

The Congress and the several states shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by
appropriate legislation. Section 3. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been
ratified as an amendment to the constitution by the legislatures of the several states, as provided
in the Constitution by the legislatures of the several states, as provided in the Constitution,
within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the states by the congress (18th
Amendment, Prohibition). While it was illegal to manufacture or distribute beer, wine, or other
intoxicating malt or vinous liquors it was not illegal to possess it for medicinal or sacramental
use. The provision allowed Americans to possess alcohol in their homes and partake with family
and guests as long as it stayed inside and was not distributed, traded or even given away to
anyone outside the home. Another interesting provision to prohibition was that alcohol was
available via a physician s prescription. For centuries liquor had been used for medicinal
purposes, in fact many of the liquors we know today were first developed as miracle cures for
various ailments. Liquor and wine licensed for medicinal purposes often wound up in the hands
and stomachs of healthy citizens. Because of this established belief that liquor could cure and
prevent a variety of ailments, doctors were still able to prescribe liquor to patients on a specially
designed government prescription form that could be

Freedom Of Speech Rights In The United States
America is a nation that takes pride in its ability to protect the fundamental rights of their citizens
such as those mentioned in the 1st amendment. Unfortunately, that was not always the case. During
the Lochner era, the right to a freedom of contract was considered a fundamental right. While rights
such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and voting, were considered non fundamental. It
wasn t until the New Deal era that the court changed the standard to be that rights such as freedom
of religion, speech, and voting, were fundamental rights. It is the New Deal standard that is the
foundation for our freedom of speech right today in America (GGW, 2017). In other places, the
standards are not the same, such as Germany. Both countries grant the right of freedom of speech,
but speech is regulated and justified differently. In this paper, the focus will be on how the ruling
and justification in the German case Auschwitz lie differs and compares to American constitutional
law regarding freedom of speech.
In Auschwitz lie, a case was brought in front of the court regarding the freedom of speech right
under Basic Law, which is the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany. The National
Democratic Party of Germany (NDP) was hosting an event, and had decided to invite the historian
David Irving. The NDP could host the event, but was obligated to adhere to specific conditions. The
specific condition was that there could not be any statement regarding the persecution

Jonathan Swift Rhetorical Analysis
In 1729 in Dublin, Ireland, preposterous yet devoted Jonathan Swift presents to the people of
Ireland and England an absurd plan that will achieve the ending of the Irish man s poverty, in
doing so the people of Ireland will have to make the ultimate sacrifice by choosing to feast upon a
young healthy child well nursed because they will certainly make a nourishing meal ; Jonathan s
satireproposes the idea of cannibalism to decrease the starvation, Swift hopes to bring awareness
to the inequality the Irish are facing by using appeals to logic, credibility, and emotion. First and
foremost, Swift starts off with an appeal to logic. Swift starts by criticising the kingdom for

Swift soon becomes a credible resource because Jonathan did the math and research to back up the
essay, Swift goes on to explain that I calculate there may be about two hundred thousand couple
whose wives are breeders. Jonathan Swift soon gets even more technical by calculating the
amount of wives there are from one million and a half people. With this information Jonathan
Swift can quickly pinpoint the amount of women who can give birth or as Swift describes it
breed. Swift then moves back into the same math equation to subtract thirty thousand couple, who
are able to maintain their own children...but this being granted, there will remain a hundred and
seventy thousand breeders. This example only proves that Swift is only offering statistical
evidence to make the statement more dependable. Another example of the text that might come
into play that would be considered reliable would be from the sensory imagery side of the text.
For example A young healthy child well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and
wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will

Health Care Marketing Reflection Essay
Health Care Marketing Reflection Essay
Markets change, tastes change, so the companies and the individuals who choose to compete in
those markets must change. ( Wang, n.d. as cited by Morrison, p. 113). In modern medicine, disease
treatment is more importance than disease prevention, as doctors focus more on treatment of
symptoms of rather than determining its root cause. This is mirrored in the media by the large
numbers of direct consumer advertisements aimed at persuading patients themself to ask their
doctors about various drug. Direct consumer marketing in the health care industry is allowed in the
USA. The health care industry includes numerous subdivisions devoted to make available health
care services and products. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is true that the patients are more willing to discuss their symptoms as they saw those symptoms
referred in the advertisements, but this does not improve the patient communication, as most of the
patients are only interested in asking for a prescription as advertised with barely any information of
the relevant medical facts. The doctors when asked for a specific prescription may give it to the
patient, rather than talk more about the condition leading to over medicated and unhealthy society.
Not enough lashes? Ask your doctor about LATISSE the first and only FDA approved treatment
that grows lashes longer, fuller and darker. (Allergan, Inc. 2010). The commercial featuring Brooke

does not even look at the side effect; if it s good for the celebrity it is good for them. Advertisements
like these use strategies that generate false impressions, manipulate, and lead on consumers instead
of enlightening them about the drug.
Most advertisements are impractical in representing medicines part in attaining health, downplaying
drug risks, presenting visual elements to distract consumers like an antihistamine commercial
showing a moving buzzing bee as the risk information is read. Various advertisements show people
reclaim full control of their lives after consuming the drug. The advertisements do

What Was The Difference Between Plane Crazy And Ub Iwerk
The first two Mickey shorts, Plane Crazy and The Gallopin Gaucho drew no attention. And it was a
failure as it failed to impress the audience and the fact that Walt could not find a distributor to
release the cartoon shorts. But then came Steamboat Willie, the first animation that featured
synchronized music and sound effects. It was first released in New York on November 18, 1928
and was an instant hit.
The film was co directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. And although it was the third Mickey
cartoon produced, it was the first to find a distributor, thus it was considered as Mickey s first
debut. Some changes were made to Mickey s appearance as well, such as simplifying his eyes to
large dots which then established his look for later cartoons

Betrayal In The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
In the novel, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, betrayal takes place in many situations
and it is almost always followed by forgiveness. Some of the motives behind the betrayal in the
novel include fear, spite, temptation, pride, selfishness, and doing what is right. In C.S. Lewis s
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Lewis includes the recurring theme of betrayal and
forgiveness. The first examples of betrayal are by Mr.Tumnus. After he first plans to betray Lucy,
he then changes his mind and betrays the White Witch instead. When Lucy first enters Narnia
through the wardrobe, she runs into a Faun who introduces himself as Mr.Tumnus. Upon finding
out Lucy is a human, he befriends her and invites her to his home where he secretly plans to
betray her and take her to the White Witch, who ordered all creatures of Narnia to report any
sightings of humans. He later confesses to Lucy his intentions when first meeting her, but says that

his capture and imprisonment later. Lucy s forgiveness of Mr.Tumnus leads to his own freedom

Historical Political In Immanuel Wallerstein
Introduction
In this essay I chose to write two topics about Historical, Political in Immanuel Wallerstein .
Immanuel Maurice Wallerstein is an American sociologist, historical, social scientist, and world
system analyst. In 1960s Immanuel Wallerstein gained recognition as an African Expert. The most
important contribution to sociology is his book The Modern World System in 1974. The book was
an immediate success. Immanuel Wallerstein develops a theoretical framework to understand the
historical changes involved in the rise of the modern world, the industrial revolution and the
complex relationship between the first, second and third countries (the core, the periphery and the

monopoly of power in society, particularly by building an army and legitimize their activities to
ensure the maintenance of stability in the country. While countries in the central region to build a

What are the disadvantages of acupuncture?
The Spine and Sport website proposes that the main disadvantage of acupuncture is infection,
soreness and pain. However, this can be 100% avoidable if the service user receives treatment from
a licensed acupuncturist. If a service user undergoing chemotherapy was to receive treatment from
an un licensed acupuncturist they would be more likely to get an infection as their immune system
is already low. This could unfortunately result in the services reducing their chances of making a
full/ quick recover. Furthermore, if the individual receiving chemotherapy was to get an infection
due to acupuncture they wouldn t feel relaxed and comfortable even though acupuncture is known
to promote this. Also, if an individual feel under the weather and un comfortable their progress may
be stunted and the time taken for them to recover will increase because research has shown that
mental determination helps individuals to recover. If the individual feels uncomfortable they will
not have the determination and energy to mentally feel well.
Acupuncture is a complementary therapy offered by the NHS however it has limited access. This
means that only a small amount of service users receive the treatment and when they do they may
not be offered many sessions. If a service users is

Effects On The Capital Market Union
Effects On the Capital Market Union Due to Brexit: Positive or Negative?
Fluctuations in the economy are normal anywhere in the world and have gone through multiple
series of highs and lows ever since scholars began the study of economics. One of the most well
known economic booms occurred when the Industrial Revolution began in the United Kingdom.
Coincidentally, the recently announcement of the exit of United Kingdom (UK) from the European
Union (EU) caused a great deal of uncertainty among investors across the world and this affected
the economy globally. It is not surprising to see that events happening in Europe can greatly
affect the stock markets around the world. The exit is confirmed after a referendum was held
and passed nationally where the count of votes to exit was higher than to remain in the European
Union. An exit from the EU is a first of its kind and will create a high degree of fluctuations in
the economy especially during the process of withdrawal. This will nonetheless disrupt the
European Commission s Capital Markets Union (CMU) plan which is what this paper is about.
The European Commissions introduced CMU to integrate capitals throughout the EU allowing the
European Commission to mobilize funds in attempt to build a more efficient Single Market. UK s
exit will likely have negative impacts on the CMU s plan since there will have to be restructuring
of the plan depending on the negotiations of exit between UK and the EU. Until we know where

A Brief Note On The Green Building Movement
The Green Building Movement North American homes, offices and other buildings contribute an
estimated 2.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere every year more than one third of
the continent s greenhouse gas pollution output (Biello). Global warming is a worldwide issue that
is thought to be one of the most severe problems around the globe. Pollution in the atmosphere is
one of the main causes of global warming. This pollution starts to build up and destroy the ozone
layer causing an increase in the overall temperature of the Earth s atmosphere (Lee). There are
simple methods that can be followed to help decrease global warming. Green buildingis a building
process that is used to make buildings more environmental friendly. This process is used throughout
the whole building life cycle, which includes everything from making the design of the building up
to the demolition of the building. Cooperation of all the people involved in the building process is
very important throughout each stage in the project. This process can lead to a much better and
easier way to help the global warming issue throughout the world. Many people may oppose to
green building because of the higher cost for new equipment and materials that are environmental
friendly (Rajendran). Although there are new technologies that are beginning to help some current
environmental safety issues, these technologies are being developed for the same reasons that
people are encouraging green

How Language Can Create Different Types Of Meaning
Context: Introduction
This interpretation essay looks to present knowledge of how language functions to create different
types of meaning (Derewianka, 2011), through analyzing and interpreting language, in accordance
to Systematic Functional Linguistics (Derewianka, 2011, p.3). Text one called Ocelot, is an
information report as it follows the structure of giving a general statement about the subject and
expanding with a description. The genre of text two, is a narrative recount displaying the distinct
structure: orientation, complication and resolution, with a coda to end (Humphrey, Droga, Feez,
2012, p.195). The texts are both written by children in stage three (years 5 6), as there is an evident
higher order thinking and understanding of meaning and form. This interpretational essay explores
how field and mode create cohesive texts through expressing and connecting ideas evident in both
texts.
Findings and Interpretation:
The field of a text is the basis of how we use language to represent subject matter (Humphrey,
Droga, Feez, 2012, p13) through logical and experimental meanings that create the foundations of
processes, participants and circumstances within a text. Text one uses processes found in an
information report to provide biological information through mostly relating verbs such as is, have,
are found , combined with action verbs to describe the events regarding the subject (e.g. live, eat,
rest.), which majority are base forms. The use of action and

Soccer Informative Speech
The audience went silent. The crowd locked their eyes on only two things, the soccer player and
the ball. This was their last chance. If they score this penalty, they have a chance to move on into
the finals. The player kept his attention on the ball. He ran towards it and kicked it with a
powerful force, aiming it towards the soccer net. The audience threw their hands up with tears in
their eyes . The stadium now filled with passionate cheers as everyone jumped up and down
from their seats. Soccer is the greatest discovery because; no other sport has the power to unite
countries. It helps with promotion, which increases the financial situation of an economy. In
addition, soccer is one of the fewer sports that does not discriminate. Anyone can enjoy the
wonderful benefits of this sport. The sport started back with the ancient Greeks and Romans.
According to an online website (The History of Soccer), they played games that involved using a
ball and their feet. Back to medieval France, the French played a violent version of this sport
called la choule which later on became banned. On the other hand, in medieval England, the
English played a different version of the game that included the rules and laws of the sport. In the
same article, in 1872, the first game was between England and Scotland. (The History of Soccer).
The sport became popular that it spread across Europe and many other countries. The U.S.
implanted their first soccer league in 1921. Unforgettable soccer

As global communication increases, these highly recognized brands are definitely the first choice for many businessmen and travellers, for their global reputation and guaranteed quality. 5.1.2Technical Factor Marriott adopts a series of technical programs to support its customer service. One of them is Marriott s Automated Reservation System for Hotel Accommodations (MARSH), which include a database of all its customers around the world.2 When a guest enters the Marriott in New York, the system recognizes that she stayed in Courtyard Tokyo last month and then she would receive a personalized service. This way Marriott can provide a better customer service through information technology, which is better than its competitors. 5.1.3Economy Factor The hotel industry is highly dependent on the economic scenarios. In the past few years, the fast developing economy in Asia had strong positive influence on Marriott s globalization. The Asia Pacific hotels industry grew by 21.7% in 2008 to reach a value of $116.5 billion. 4 While the hotel industry in US is almost mature and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Due Process Model Versus Crime Control Model Does the protection of many, outweigh the rights of an individual? That is the ultimate debate between the crime control model, and the due process model. Although, if we break down the two models, both would be needed in a perfect society. Now, choosing which I would prefer over the other, I would prefer to have the crimecontrol model, as the standard in all criminal justicesystems across the globe. The reason for this is, I would rather see the protection of my fellow society, and being able to walk the streets freely, and be less worried. However, with me choosing that side, I still would prefer to have both implemented correctly, and even change some of the steps in each process, to try and make both processes more efficient, than how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now the pros of this model is that the whole process is suppose to be accelerated. Causing the police force, and the courts to convict those guilty, or release the innocent back into society. The faster this process is, the more time and effort the police force would be able to exert to lower the overall crime rate in a city. Packer really showed this support by stating, all of the components of the criminal justice system must work together to increase the capacity to apprehend, try, convict, and dispose of a high proportion of criminal offenders whose offenses become known. (p. 40). Cons of this model however, can be rather horrifying in thought. The main con would be that, even if you are innocent, you may still be convicted in a crime. It almost every aspect, if something is incredibly fast and efficient, the accuracy will diminish. Although convictions will increase, the chances of being wrongfully accused would tarnish the society. Instead of having to worry about crime in general, the society would have to be worried to not be accused for anything. In a weird comparison, the society would turn into a town like Salem, in which although you are innocent, because you were accused you will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Experiment On Separation And Purification Methods This experiment introduces separation and purification methods used in research quite frequently. These methods include hot vacuum filtration and recrystallization to purify a crude sample of acetanilide containing two impurities. Recrystallization is a very common method that is used to purify solids. This process dissolves a crude solidwith impurities in a mildly boiling solvent, and cooling down the mixture afterwards for crystals to reconstruct themselves in solution. This method allows impurities to separate and remain in solution as precipitate or remain uniform in solution. Solids are more soluble in hot solvents than in cold ones, allowing maximum dissolution for proper separation and subsequent crystallization to occur. After purifying the compound, the melting point is determined using the Mel Temp technology to compare to the written melting point to see how pure the sample truly is. The proper steps of recrystallization include selecting a solvent that fits the characteristic of all the components, water in this experiment. Then, dissolving a crude sample in the chosen solvent (at or close to the solvent boiling point), forming solid in the solution as cooling takes place, using vacuum filtration to isolate the purified solid, ridding the crystals of all impurities through drying. In this experiment, recrystallization allows purification of 150 mg of crude acetanilide. Hot vacuum filtration is a process used. The process requires using a filter flask, Pasteur ... • 5. Football Reflection In this story, I am going to share an experience with you about a lesson that I learned last year during the football season. It will include some graphic details, a deeper look into my thoughts and feelings, and much more. This is the story that helped change my whole mindset of football. This is what Friday night lights is all about. During the last football season, I suffered an injury that I thought was going to affect me in such a negative way. But it turns out, even though it was one of the most painful things I ve experienced, it ended up being one of the best things to happen to me. My whole mindset on the game of football changed for the better, and it made me into the great player I am today. It was homecoming night against the powerhouse Taylorville, it was cold, rainy, and the field turned into a swamp of mud, sweat, and blood. It was time for the game to start. Taylorville came out on offense and on the very first play of the game, Parker Stokes ran a 63 yard touchdown. It was one of the many spirit breakers of the night. It was time for us to return the favor, we came out on offense on the 20 yard line. We had 80 yards to go, and it felt more like 1,000. With all the rain we couldn t pass the ball, so we handed the ball off to our all star running back Terrence Hill, we drove the ball 56 yards on 6 plays. We were doing great until all of a sudden nothing went right for us. We got stuffed at the line of scrimmage on the next two plays and then, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Challenge For Property Qualifications For Voting One basis of political democracy in this period was the challenge to property qualifications for voting. It began in the American Revolution but culminated in the early nineteenth century. After the Revolution, no new state required property ownership to vote, and in older states, constitutional conventions in the 1820s and 1830s abolished property qualifications, partly because the growing number of wage earners who did not own much property demanded the vote. In the South, however, where large slave owners dominated politics and distrusted mass democracy, property requirements were eliminated only gradually and disappeared quite late, by 1860. The personal independence required of the citizen was henceforth located not in owning property but in owning one s self, a reflection of this period s individualism. The single exception to this democratizing trend was Rhode Island, which required voters to own considerable real estate or rental property. The state was a center of factory production, and many wage earners could not vote. In 1841, reformers met at a People s Convention and drafted a new state constitution that gave the vote to all adult men and stripped it from blacks. When the convention illegally ratified the constitution and inaugurated lawyer Thomas Dorr as governor, president John Tyler dispatched federal troops to the state, and the movement collapsed. By 1840, more than 90 percent of adult white men could vote. By then, America had a vibrant democratic system ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Susan B. Anthony As A Teacher Or Writer Susan B. Anthony once said, I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand. Leader, dreamer, and believer are three words that could easily be connected with Anthony. She consistently pursued and believed that her dream of equality would someday come true, and led others away from a conflicting and unjust society. Most people know Susan B. Anthonyas a teacher or writer, but she has done so much more than that. Considering her many contributions to women s rights, readers can conclude that Susan B. Anthony devoted her life to numerous associations as well as other movements. She depicted an impact and change in her legacy as an American civil rights hero. Born in Adams, Massachusetts, Susan Brownell Anthony became the second of eight children on February 15, 1820 (history.com). Growing up, Susan B. Anthony learned that women were discouraged from voicing their views (Lifer 299). Anthony developed a sense of independence as well as moral zeal starting at an early age, which helped her realize the need for equal rights granted to women (Encyclopedia Americana 39). In her earlier life, reformers would gather in the family home near Rochester, New York, and this influenced her views on social betterment in America (Encyclopedia Americana 39). Anthony had excellent education at a time when most men were against women learning, and she began a career as a teacher (Cooper 12). As a teacher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Puritanism and Pragmatism Essay Although they lived on the same continent, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin lived in very different worlds. These men are similar in some respects, but overwhelmingly they are different. For example, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin can be considered leaders in their time frame. Winthrop led the Puritans; Franklin led his country to war. Both men also possessed many of the same virtues such as patience and work ethic. Despite these similarities, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklinhad a different style of living and a different philosophy of life. These differences are most notable in regards to religion, economics, and science. Perhaps the greatest difference between Winthrop and Franklin was their view of religion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initial New England ideal of a closely knit, covenanted community proved difficult to maintain in the face of economic growth (52). The region began to grow not only in population, but also in prosperity. The Puritans were expected to support the church by giving money to their ministers. The later generations born in Massachusetts Bay were more interested in keeping their wealth than fearing the wrath of God. New England merchants were accused of making too much money; they began to want relief and freedom from the straitjacket of Puritanism. The life of Benjamin Franklin is a typically rags to riches story. He knew that hard work would pay off in the end, and by the age of forty two he had accumulated sufficient wealth to reach his goal of the В‘free and easy life (54). Unlike Winthrop, Franklin believed that the money one earns is rightfully his own. Winthrop s and Franklin s economic philosophies reflected the time period in which they lived. A final difference between Winthrop and Franklin dealt with their notions of science. Naturally, for the Puritans, science meshed with religion. It says on page 60, Nature was God s handiwork; its processes showed the effect of His guidance. Consequently, to study natural phenomena was to observe the wisdom, power, and glory of God. Science for the Puritan mind was an act of worship. On the other hand, Franklin was determined to understand how things work; he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Exploring The Benefits And Difficulties Of Travel Accounts To understand the benefits and difficulties of travel accounts as primary sources, they need to be clearly defined and placed into their context. The main primary sources in I will be studying are British travel accounts produced between 1790 and 1800. Tim Young provides the basics for travel accounts stating, The guiding principle of this book is that travel writing consists of predominantly factual, first person prose of travels that have been undertaken by the author narrator. It includes discussion of works that some may regard as genre in their own rights... but it distinguishes these from other types of narrative in which travel ins narrated by a third party or is imagined. Young s description of travel narratives allows for accounts that were viewed as accurate in their time such as Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travels. Young and Elizabeth Bohls demonstrate the ability for travel narratives to be a combination of several literature genres, and the focus is on the aspects of the traveler rather than the construction of the work in a literary sense. Linda Colley described the process of analysis the documents, But it needs stressing from the start that, while these texts sometimes contain fictional interludes, together of course with a tithe of lies and errors, their overall factual anchorage can usually be tested. Colley s testing involves comparing accounts and checking references to outside sources and events. This also involves also being critical with those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this writing, the characters; Lydia and George have given their children all they could ask for but what happens at the end would be a parents worst nightmare. As the story comes to an end Peter and Wendy locked the parents in the nurseryto become the lions tasty lunch. Bradbury creates suspense through the use of sensory details and foreshadowing. One unusual day George and Lydia wander into their children s nursery confused on the appearance of lions and vultures. The couple observes a pride of lions heading to the watering hole after finishing the lunch. The author describes the dead carcasses circling around the body. The reader can infer that things that happen in the nursery have to do with death. A few moments later, Lydia observes the lions and realizes that the lions might be a little too real to be virtual reality. The lions feeding and other actions looked like more than what a fake lion would do. Later in the story Lydia and George are standing near the nursery confused about the lions when Lydia hears a scream. Startled, she asks George if he heard it too. Surprisingly, George did not hear anything. As the story progresses the couple hears the screams two more times. The screams are unusually familiar to George and Lydia. Heating the water before adding the sugarallows more sugar to dissolve thus producing larger crystals. Crystals form after 6 7 days. Foodcoloring may be added to the mixture to produce colored candy. • 14. The Case Of Dukes V. Wal Mart Stores, Inc. Essay SUMMARY In the case of Dukes v. Wal Mart Stores, Inc., the District Court of the Ninth Circuit certified a class of 1.5 million females currently and formerly employed by Wal Mart Stores, Inc. The plaintiff class sought injunctive and declaratory relief, punitive damages, and back pay; due to the alleged violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act in regards to alleged discrimination against female employees in promotions and wages. In Wal Mart Stores, Inc. v. Dukes, the petitioner filed an appeal to the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and then the United States Supreme Court to challenge the class certification s validity as well as the class s entitlement to monetary relief under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23. QUESTIONS PRESENTED Under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23(b)(2) can claims for monetary relief be certified and if so, under what circumstance; and was the class defined by the district court in Dukes v. Wal Mart Stores, Inc. consistent with Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23(a)? BRIEF ANSWER No. The certification of the plaintiff class in Dukes v. Wal Mart Stores, Inc. was not consistent with Rules 23(a), because the class does not have enough commonality in the nature of their discrimination question to prove the alleged reasons for those decisions in promotion and wages. Additionally, the class s backpay claims were not properly certified under Rule 23(b)(2) because the rule only can apply when a single, indivisible remedy would provide relief ... • 15. Clarence s Speech in William Shakespeare s Richard III Essay Clarence s Speech in William Shakespeare s Richard III The speech I am going to be examining is from one of Shakespeare s plays, Richard III. It is the part of the play where George, Duke of Clarence is explaining a prophetic nightmare he had whilst being locked in the Tower of London. Richard III was a real king of England, but had been killed in battle, around 100 years prior to when Shakespeare wrote this play. At the time of writing, in 1594, the queen was Elizabeth I, a Tudor. One of the Queens ancestors, Henry VII, had killed Richard III on Bosworth Field. Shakespeare, to make sure he was in favour with the Queen, made Richard s character into a complete villain, as well as physically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helps to build up drama and create a vivid picture in the minds of those watching the plays. This was especially important in the Elizabethan times, as stages had limited scenery and special effects. The beginning of Clarence s speech is full of warnings and phrases that suggest death. He begins his speech telling Brackenbury that, in his dream, he thought he had broken from the Tower and was on a ship to Burgundy with Richard. He says Richard tempted him to walk over the deck. The word tempted is a word often used when talking of the devil as the devil tries to lure people into sin. When Clarence uses this word to describe Richard s actions, it is like if Richard is being described as devil like. He then says that he and Richard looked towards England, and recalled a thousand heavy times, during the wars of York and Lancaster, that had befallen us. A thousand is an exaggeration, but it shows that Clarence is being warned of more bad things to come. This sets the mood of the speech. It is full of warnings and sentences suggesting bad times. Clarence says Methought that Gloucester stumbled, and in falling, struck me . This is a forewarning that Richard is going to cause Clarence to suffer in the future. When Clarence says methought it shows that he is a bit doubtful as to whether it was an accident or not. He thinks that it was an accident when he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of this part is to provide key results of testing for PPP in order to facilitate the following detailed discussions. It is no doubt that this section can be viewed as the core of the whole project because it depends on a variety of econometric tools to evaluate the financial data. The findings consist of two major aspects: the one is on the examine of the APPP, namely the strong version of PPP; the other is on the test of the RPPP, also known as the weak form of PPP. 5.2 Findings of Testing for APPP As stated earlier, the APPP is based on the law of one price, stating that the real exchange rateis equal to one. The formula is expressed as: For the convenience of our research, the equation above can be simplified to: where Et represents the nominal bilateral exchange rate, Pt* is the CPI in Japan, Pt means the Indian CPI. Before analysing, what should do is to transmute the raw data into the natural logarithm form. According to Jia and Rathi (2008), the major cause of transformation is that taking natural logarithms not only indicates the elasticity of economic variables, but eliminates the issue of heteroscedasticity efficiently. If an econometric model is heteroscedastic, the test of significance for variables will be meaningless and the parameter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Odissi dance was held to a very high esteem not only by commoners, for even royalty were expected to be great dancers of this kind. However, as a sensual dance of great passion, love, and joy, it doesn t come to be a great surprise that after the 17th century odissi dance took a turn for the worse. The dancers went from being admired to being known as prostitutes and whores; it was a dark time for odissi dance as it came very close to being extinct. Nevertheless, India Independence Day marked an enormous change due the recognition that culture and dance was essential to unifying India once again. Many individuals then set out to revive odissi dance for the better (Nirmal). Odissi dance has since then taken on many different forms and has even split into three different schools: mahari, nartaki, and gotipua. Mahari dance is the traditional form of odissi used in rituals; narthaki dance was developed in the royal courts; and gotipua dance is the form of odissi where males wear female costumes and assume those roles (Courtney). One of the main differences between these dances is the purpose and symbolism. While odissi dance has been used for entertainment it is a classical temple dance. It is used in rituals and has originally been created for the Divine, bachata on the other hand is the complete opposite. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (Downie 1). The mountain is said to be where God resides, high up on the mountain. Different themes like relationships and death flood the story. It starts with the main characterHarry, and his wife stranded on the mountain. Hemmingway utilizes different literary devices to bring out these themes, with the main character facing his last moments alive. The story is full of powerful literary devices. However, it mostly portrays symbolism and flashback. Symbolism is the main literary device that Hemingway uses throughout the story. Animal symbolism is dominant as it is what the author uses at the beginning of the story. In a short prologue at the beginning, Hemingway talks of a leopard carcass at the summit of the mountain. He says, Close to the Western summit there is the dried and frozen carcass of a leopard, (Hemingway 1). The readers may find it difficult to explain how a leopard found its way up the mountain and what exactly it was doing wandering so high up at the summit. Hemingway uses the leopard to symbolize power, courage, and uttermost strength, which are characters Harry had as a young man. He hopes that he will regain these characters someday. He aspires to go back to his old ways where he was profound and of good character during his youth, rather than the character he had developed. While both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the stomach upset, the patient began to add more HCO3 formularies to the stomach, which increased the levels of HCO3 in the body. Pathophysiology There are different ways that metabolic alkalosis can occur. Generally, the imbalance occurs from a loss of hydrogen ions, a shift of hydrogen ions into the intracellular space, and administration of antacids (Medscape, 2015). Hydrogen ions are lost from the kidneys and the gastrointestinal tract, which occurs from vomiting and diarrhea. When hydrogen ions are excreted from the body, bicarbonate ions are added to the intracellular space (Medscape, 2015). Compensation Mechanism When homeostasis is disrupted, the body will respond in several ways. Depending upon the imbalance, the body will work to quickly correct the problem and restore the body to homeostatic state. The building was finished in the year 1930 and is located in New York City. The Chrysler Building was constructed using stainless steel over an exposed building surface which was a first for its time (History of Walter P. Chrysler and the Chrysler Building, n.d.). The next important thing to think about when understanding the Chrysler Building is to figure out what it was designed for. Although the building was not owned by Chrysler it was used for the corporation s offices which used the building until the mid 1950 s (Chrysler Building, n.d). Next, when one looks at the Chrysler Building they can tell it represents an Art Deco style by its many unique features. PTSD is a mental disorder that people may develop after experiencing one or more traumatic events such as acts of interpersonal violence, severe accidents, natural disasters, or a military related experience (Gaskell, 2005). Exposure to traumatic stressors does not always bring about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder but when symptoms prevent an individual from participating in everyday life, they have developed the mental disorder (Ford, 2015). Security Risks Surrounding Electronic Medical Records In this paper we identify security risks surrounding Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and discuss strategies healthcare providers can employ to mitigate those risks. We begin with a brief overview of the legislative history driving the rapid adoption of EMR and other health information technology. Legislation Driving Rapid Adoption of EMR Perhaps the most important piece of legislation relevant to our understanding of security risks surrounding EMR and health information technology is The Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which was signed into law in 1996 by the Clinton administration. HIPAA impacts the healthcare industry in many ways, but of particular importance at least for our purposes of understanding security risks surrounding EMR is HIPAA s security rule, which governs how providers must protect private health information during the process of adopting and implementing new health information technology such as EMR. HIPAA requires covered entities to take reasonable measures to protect electronic private health information. HIPAA is vitally important to our understanding of EMR risks because providers can face harsh penalties if found in violation of HIPAA. Coincidentally, the recently announcement of the exit of United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU) caused a great deal of uncertainty among investors across the world and this affected the economy globally.
