The Qin Dynasty And The Great Wall Of China
Qin dynasty is a very important dynasty in the China history. It evolved from the state of Qin of the
Warring States Period. Qin Dynasty was also known as the first dynasty to unify China. Emperor Qin
managed to defeat six kingdoms one by one and eliminated all his enemies. However, in 221BC
Emperor Qin decided to build a large building known as the Great Wall of China. He did that because
he wanted to defend the Qin Dynasty that period from northern barbarians invading into the dynasty
and disrupting the peace. He also thought he would be able to recruit labors to work on the Great Wall.
Furthermore, Emperor Shi Huang was confident about having enough resources to build this Great
Wall and he knew the ways to build it. These are the reasons persuaded Emperor Shi Huang to
proceed with the construction of the Great Wall. The idea of building the wall intrigued Emperor Shi
Huang after realizing the threat from northern barbarians invading into the dynasty and disrupting the
peace. It started in 221BC, when Emperor Shih Huang wanted to unify all the states during the
Warring States period. He was known as the first Emperor to unify China. Emperor Shi Huang ended
the Zhou dynasty and destroyed the remaining 6 kingdoms and took control of it. The land which was
divided by the 7 kingdoms was then unified under the Qin into one empire. Everything in the Qin
Dynasty went well at that time. However, Emperor Shi Huang realized that there was always a threat

Women and Flexibility in the Workplace The focus of this paper is to evaluate factors that have
affected women`s pay in the workforce. The analysis of historical factors affecting women`s flexibility
in the workplace as a continuous social and structural issue is added to the paper to explain the need
for change because of the demands that accompany working female caregivers in the home. Historical
and statistical data is provided to validate the issues surrounding unequal pay scales women
commonly experience in the workplace. A hypothesis is developed to suggest the type`s of change that
women hope to see take place in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time the law was passed, it was estimated that women were earning 59% of the average wage
(Giraffe, 2011). In 2011 the estimate had risen to 82% ratio of pay for women compared to men.
Lower pay scales for women means lower retirement benefits, pension pay, and 401k`s. The low pay
scales were insulting enough to the female gender but deeper issued existed such as the flexibility
needed to care for children, home, and personal healthcare.
Structural and Social Concerns Surrounding Women in the Workforce Women are typically the
nurturers in the home. Mother`s have been responsible for childcare, PTA, grade mothers, and sports
moms for many generations before males began filling the roles because females were working
outside the homes. Although it is not uncommon in todays society to see dad`s stay at home and fill
the roles typically filled by women; it is a relatively new role for males in the last 25 years. The
National Organization for Women, 2012, reports that, Different societal expectations for wives
compared to husbands and mothers compared to fathers . Taylor, 2000, quotes Rita Donaghy, president
of the Trades Union Congress, stating, We want to see a labor market which does not penalize mothers
but rather uses their skills in a modern and dynamic economy . Women with children face issues such
as childcare, adequate after school programs, leaving children unattended, and the cost for such care.

Overview of Assisted Living Facilities
Abstract
Assisted living is a fairly new and unique part of the long term care continuum of services. The goal
of assisted living is to maximize the independence of older adults while living in a homelike
environment. This paper will provide an overview of assisted living facilities including the number of
facilities and residents, costs, services, and growth expectations. Challenges with oversight and
regulations will be discussed as well as solutions to the problem. Challenges and solutions for staffing
and training issues will also be discussed. The paper will also highlight In Loving Hands Assisted
Living which is a local assisted living facility that I called and visited to aid in my research. I will give

(Code of Maryland regulations)
According to the National Center for Assisted Living, (2001) assisted living facilities are typically
stand alone facilities, but can often be a part of another facility within the long term continuum of care
such as a nursing home, senior housing complex, retirement community, or independent living
apartments. Assisted living facilities are different in appearance than nursing homes and other
facilities in that they tend to offer a more home like environment. These residences may be
condominiums, a residential house, or apartments with personalized decorations and room layouts.
They typically offer common areas for dining and activities. Approximately half of ALF s are non
profit, with the other half being for profit facilities. Very few assisted living facilities are government
run. Because licensing regulations vary from state to state, ALF s can be known by various names
including residential care, board and care, domiciliary care, personal care etc. Assisted living facilities
offer different levels of care depending on the amount of assistance the resident requires. Most of
these providers are licensed at level three, which means they can accept patients with low, moderate,
or high care needs (University of Maryland,

The Walking Qur An
In addition to the embodiment of the Qur an through bodily transmissions and ethical cultivation,
Rudolph Ware in his book, The Walking Qur an, proposes understanding embodiment of the Qur an as
not only a bodily epistemology but also as an religious prism to perceive the ontology of human
beings in both the past and present. In a follow up piece addressing criticisms and questions, Ware
explains in one neat line the objective of his book: If I could add a single line [to The Walking Qur
an], it would be that the book takes Qur an schooling as a window onto a particular epistemology of
embodiment, and then uses that epistemology as a window into history ( Traditions 678). Not only
does Ware propose an epistemology of embodiment but also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although he has been critiqued for disparaging Reformist variants of Islam, these critiques, in my
opinion, fail to see his particular utilization of the embodiment of Qur anic knowledge. For instance,
Adeline Masquelier in her essay Qur an Schooling and the Production of Mindful Bodies in West
Africa is correct to critique Ware s final polemic against Reformist Islam as lacking a fair insight
about its historical circumstances and relationship with the other Islamic discursive traditions;
however, her comparison of Saba Mahmood s embodiment of piety exhibited in her book Politics of
Piety and Ware s conceptualization of the term undercuts Ware s unique approach and paints
embodiment with the same brush (Masquelier 189 190). Failing to acknowledge the epistemological
project that comes with embodying the Qur an in Reformist Islam s particular way, such as the
adoption of specific subjectivities and modes of piety, reduces the differences the West African
epistemology possesses, for The Walking Qur an is not only the Qur an embodied but also the Qur an
in action [his italics] (Ware, WQ 14). Overall, whether through the embodiment of the memorization
and dispositions or the becoming of the literal walking, talking, and living Qur an, these two
conceptualizations of embodiment prove the important point that the Qur an is intricately tied to the
Muslim s corporeal interactions in this physical existence, for in every motion, the Qur an is

Fred Hollows Research Paper
Frederick Cossom (Fred) Hollows was one of the greatest Australians who had ever lived. He is
known to be one of the most caring men in history who always put others before himself to help the
world be seen as a better place.
Fred Hollows was born on the 9th of April, 1929 in Dunedin, New Zealand. He was the second of four
boys in his family and he attended North East Valley Primary School and Palmerston North Boy s
High School growing up. He did well academically but only when he was interested in the subject and
he enjoyed the Protestant Boy s Brigade, camping and tramping around the bush. When he was young

Metal Band Misconceptions
Misconceptions about Rock and Metal Bands.
Only talks about death? Screams all the time? Lyrics mean nothing? If the first thing you thought of
was a band you believe all those common misconceptions. How would you know if you refuse to try
and listen to it? Most people choose not to go out on a limb and give this music a chance because they
have a paranoia that it is evil. Kids who wear black and listen to rock music aren t all satan
worshippers or terrible people. ~Andy Biersack. There is no reason that this music shouldn t be
respected by society.
Where did the misconception that rock and metal bands have meaningless lyrics come from? In fact,
rock and metal bands tend to have deeper and more relatable lyrics than some(not all)songs that
everyone seems to enjoy. An example is that one set of lyrics in a black veil brides song called never
give in is Never give in, Never back down. When your life seems lost, fight against all odds.
Compared to Kanye West s song I am a God where he sings I just talked to Jesus, He said what s up

That misconception was caused when someone had mistaken death metal or deathcore for a metal or
rock song. Rock and metal songs almost never talk about death but when they do they are telling their
listeners that suicide is never the answer and that instead of hurting yourself listen to their music.
Rock and metal has actually reduced suicide rates by 89% When people hurt you over and over, think
of them as sandpaper. They may scratch and hurt you now but in the end you end up polished and they
end up useless. Andy stands up against bullying as do most bands which helps assist them in the
feeling that they belong and can recuperate to make it better in the end. These bands reassure the pain

Classification Essay
Classification of Exercise Partners
Every woman s magazine I ve ever read gives its readers advice on exercising, and one of the most
common tips I ve seen is to find a partner to exercise with. In my experience, however, having an
exercise partner is not a good idea. I have encountered five types of exercise partners, and I have
concluded that it is definitely best to exercise alone.
The Drill Sergeant
My ex boyfriend represents the Drill Sergeant. He is one of those people whose motto is No pain, no
gain. Of course, he assumes that everyone else follows this decree as well. He will try to push you to
the limit every time you exercise with him, and can become nasty if you give up before he thinks you
should. I refused to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She could not understand that few people need or even want constructive criticism. Needless to say,
we only ran together on a few occasions. I can only stand so much optimism when I m gasping for
breath and sweating profusely.
The Competitor
A high school teammate of mine was The Competitor. Her outlook on life was to be the best at
whatever she did, and exercising was no exception. She seemed perfectly sweet, but her competitive
streak emerged one afternoon. Our leisurely jog gradually turned to a run, and then a full sprint. I
glanced over at her and noticed the pained expression on her face. I knew she was only pushing
herself to beat me: she felt she had to run faster and further. You would think that since I knew this
was the case, I would have given up and let her get her dose of superiority. I didn t. I was determined
to teach her a lesson. I had been jogging regularly by that that time, and was in pretty good shape. She
gave up first, and The Competitor cannot stand to lose. We remained friends, of course, but never ran
together again. Her bruised pride and my sore muscles saw to that.
The Natural Athlete
A person doesn t fall into the category of The Natural Athlete because of attitudes or actions, but
because of superior ability. My cousin was the Natural Athlete. She didn t spend much time exercising
but was still in good shape. This alone was enough to make me almost hate her. I had been working
out faithfully for quite some time and felt

Good Readers And Good Writers By Vladimir Nabokov
A quick summary of both articles we will be discussing today on The Morning Show. The article,
Good Readers and Good Writers by Vladimir Nabokov is basing itself on how good readers and good
writers get good to begin with. Mr Nabokov explains that the author must be able to create something
different and unique to sent planet spinnings in order to produce a successful book. While on the other
hand to make yourself a good reader you must read a book with a fresh mindset as if you don t know
what s to come, go in there expecting to learn something new and do not ruin the thrill of it. Now onto

When reading a book there s a special order that we like to follow. We see it manually from left to
right, but that s not the same case when looking at a picture we tend to open up our eyes and look at it
at every angle. Once you ve reread a book you ll start seeing it as a painting instead of a regular book.
Once you ve cracked open the case, now the reader can enter the game. And that s when the magic
begins and people start praising the book and actually appreciate it. The attitude you bring into a book
is fairly important when reading it. That is a very clever way of seeing what the meaning of reading is.
However, when we come back, we will see how Mr. Holt defines reading based on his own
experiences and work he has done. (commercial break) We are back! This morning we have been
analyzing what reading is and hearing who is Mr. Nabokov and how he defines the meaning of
reading. John Holt is here to bring in his own take of the topic and later they will go on head to head

Local Area Network ( Wan )
LAN stands for local area network and is normally a group of computers that share a common
communications line typically, connected devices share the resources of a single processor or server
within a small area such as an office. A LAN may serve as few as two or three users such as in a home
network or as many as thousands of users such as a FDDI network.
WAN
A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a communication network made up of computers that are far away
from each other. The most common example of a Wan is the Internet although a WAN doesn t need to
be global to qualify as a wide area network.

The tree allows you to have many servers on the network and you can branch out the network in many
ways. This is useful for colleges, universities and schools so that each of the branches can identify the
relevant systems in their own network.
Advantages
A Tree Topology is supported by many network vendors and even hardware vendors.
A point to point connection is possible with Tree Networks.
All the computers have access to the larger and their immediate networks.
Best topology for branched out networks.
Disadvantages
The Tree Topology network is reliant on the trunk which is the main backbone of the network. If that
has to fail then the entire network would fail.
In a Network Topology the length of the network depends on the type of cable that is being used.
Star Star Topology is the most common type of network topology that is used in homes and offices. In
the Star Topology there is a central connection point called the hub which is a computer hub or
sometimes just a switch.
Advantages
A Star Network Topology is very easy to manage because of its simplicity in functionality.
The problems can be easily located logically in a Star Topology and therefore is easy to troubleshoot
also.
The Star Topology is very simple in format so it is very easy to expand on the Star Topology.
Disadvantages
The Star Topology has to fully rely on the hub and the whole working of the network depends on the
hub.
If there are many nodes and the

When World War 2 is mentioned, most people think of the Auschwitz and what the Germans did to the
Jews to create the perfect race . Those Jews were sent to the concentration camps where they were
tortured and a team of twenty so called medical professionals got to experiment on the lesser species .
These experiments included victims being stripped of bones, muscles and nerves; sometimes having
entire limbs removed to transplant to other victims; intentional exposure to mustard gas along with so
many other terrible practices. In today s society we frown on human experimentation, determined not

The Relief and Mistakes of the American Red Cross Makes
Undoubtedly, the American Red Cross has done many wonders over the course of its existence.
Whether it is providing relief from disasters, aiding the less fortunate nationally and internationally or
saving lives with their blood program, the Red Cross has always been there to help the world become
a safer place to live in. Most recently, this organization has had a strong impact in the recovery of
Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Isaac, providing food and water, multiple shelters for people that
have lost their homes and even counseling during such a devastating time ( Top 20 Accomplishments
). It can t be disputed that since its inception, the Red Cross has had a lasting impact on the overall
well being of American citizens, instilling confidence in them that if a disaster does strike in their
lives, the Red Cross is there to ease the pain a bit. However, much like any other organization, the Red
Cross has had its fair share of flaws and mishaps. A crucial mistake in the business world may result in
a substantial loss of money or even a sentence to prison. Unfortunately for the Red Cross, everything
they do and participate in deals with the lives of everyday individuals. As a result, if their jobs aren t
done correctly or mistakes are being made, it could put the lives of thousands at risk and therefore
jeopardize their institution. Some may argue that in several instances, there has been mistakes made
that have directly and negatively impacted the lives of Americans. An

Behavior Observation
Introduction
At my job, I worked with two students named John and Jimmy. John and Jimmy are two students at
our school with behavior problems. This week, I focused on observing their behavior in settings to
work on tracking the correct accuracy, reliably, and validity (Cooper, J. O., Heron, T. E., Heward, W.
L. 2007). However, before I could began tracking data I had to come up with two problem behaviors.
The problem behaviors I came up with were Aggression and Non Compliance. In order, to track these
behaviors, I focused on duration and frequency. I will examine these behaviors using a ABC data

Conclusion
To this end, as I finished up working with student 1 and student 2. I learn how to be more efficient
while tracking data. I learned the importance of observing behavior in a more accurate, reliable and
valid way. It is vital to track the data accurately because it will allow staff to determine if a student is
making progress or regressing with that target behavior (Cooper, Heron Heward (2007) During my
data collection of these problem behaviors, I made sure i put in my undivided attention to make sure it
was as reliable and accurate as possible

The United States Marine Corps was established on November 10, 1775, to strengthen the naval

They transform citizens into America s best Marines. From our music to our mantras, from our
cadences to our creed, these are the traditions of a proud and distinguished warrior class.
(marines.com)
Although missions may change over time, what will remain constant is their unchanging commitment
to protecting the lives of American citizens and the interests of the United States of America. Their
purpose is to be this nation s rapid response force; they are called to be the most ready when the nation
is least ready. From relief efforts to combat operations from the air, land and sea the Marine Corps is
ready to answer the nation s call. (marines.com)
The Marines have three major impacts: National, Worldwide and Community. Marines have fought in
all of America s wars and conflicts from the American Revolution to the War on Terrorism. They are
the America s first line of defense. They are the most efficient and effective response option when
unexpected threats face America. The United States Marine Corps maintains a constant state of being
prepared. The American people believe that when a crisis emerges, Marines will be present and will
invariably turn in a performance that is dramatically and decisively successful not most of the time,
but always. The investment in the Marine Corps continues to be an investment in the character of the
young people of our country. (General James F. Amos, 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps)

According to Dahlsrud`s model which focuses on the five identified dimensions, which were
concluded from the analysis of 37 defintions relating to CSR which are namely, environmental, social,
economic, stakeholder and voluntariness. The PDF article titled, How Corporate Social Responsibility
is Defined: an Analysis of 37 Definitions , Dahlsrud concluded that the confusion is not so much about
how CSR is defined, as about how CSR is socially constructed in a specific context. (Dahlsrud, 2006)
. Thus, Dahslrud suggests CSR is based on the five dimensions in his model which must be applied

The Impact of Universal Studios
The Universal Impact Universal Pictures, or Universal Studios, has been around for a little over a
century and it is currently regarded amongst the top six movie studios in America. It grosses billions
of dollars in revenue annually and produces major hits and movie stars. Universal is also owned by a
giant media conglomerate known as NBC Universal, which is quite different from its humble
beginnings. This paper will provide a brief insight into the relationship between Universal Pictures
and its impact on the movie industry along with how Universal became a big name in Hollywood. The
man who started it all was Carl Laemmle. Born in Württemberg Germany, Laemmle was the tenth of
thirteen children, eight of which died of a cruel epidemic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike MGM or Warner Bros., short subjects had always been a fundamental part of Universal s
production strategy. In an effort to remove itself from its near bottom industry ranking, the company
flirted occasionally with the prestige feature market during the 1930s, usually to its financial
detriment. During this decade it did its best financially when it concentrated on its primary business:
turning out low budget features at high speed. Universal s short subject releases maintained this
philosophy throughout the 1930s with amazing consistency, considering the turnover in management
(including the ouster of Laemmle and his son, Carl, Jr, in 1936). Early in the 1930s, the studio s
emphasis was shifted to two reel comedies, starting with the likes of Slim Summerville, Arthur Lake
and Benny Rubin as starring comedians. The Universal two reelers took a decidedly interesting swing
when former Hal Roach studio manager Warren Doane was hired in 1932 to organize a production
unit. Doane, in turn, brought in Roach employees James W. Horne, a young George Stevens and Alf
Goulding as directors, as well as a long time member of Charles Chaplin s staff, Albert Austin. The
unit lasted until 1934, with Stevens leaving for RKO quite a bit earlier. Unfortunately most of these

Liver Observation Report
To confirm, the P values of the liver and the kidney is 0.003, this value is less than the null hypothesis
of 0.05, as the value is greater than the null hypothesis it rejects the hypothesis depicting that the liver
and kidney fractions are not the same. The comparison of the liver cytosol with the liver mitochondria
enables us to determine the activity between the cell fractions, the calculated P value, 0.0012, that
disapproves the null hypothesis as 0.0012 ≤ 0.05 indicates that there is no relationship between the
cytosol and mitochondrial fractions. Furthermore, the similarities in the Liver mitochondria and the
kidney mitochondria activities of 0.109 ≥ 0.05 supports the null hypothesis, accordingly outlines a
relationship between the liver and the kidney tissues in the mitochondrial fraction. Lastly, the kidney
cytosol and the kidney present low levels of GST activity in the mitochondrial fraction, compared to
the cytosolic, this indicates that the metabolic reactivity of the enzyme is more favorable in this
specific location of the tissues. (evidence) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

16th century to today, changing social agendas and shaping public opinion about political office
holders. The creator of each cartoon makes each one represent his or hers opinion about what would
be currently happening at that time. This paper will show you the start of political cartoons and the
role played by political cartoons in setting social agendas also it will show how they are used today.

According to the Journal of Public Affairs van Dijk (1998), stated that political cartoons are one
important means by which public opinion is formed. This theory was shown in the Journal Of Public
Affairs by Brinkman, 1968; Medhurst and DeSousa, 1981; Caswell, 2004; Chatterjee, 2007 to say,
The strong theory of political cartoons argues that political cartoons actually persuade and shape
public attitudes, intentions, and behaviors . Reported news is supposed to be objective and impartial,
but political cartoons can mix opinions with factual beliefs (Wiid et al. 2011). In conclusion we saw
the birth of political cartoons in Great Britain in the 16th century and on threw into the American
Colony s. The first presidents and inventors of our time were subject to political cartoons. We saw the
use of political cartoons to change public opinion by showing current and sensitive issues that people
are concerned about at that time. This makes an innocent cartoon very powerful tools that express or
changes political opinions. Then as we flash forward we see how theories have been proven to show
how political cartoons have persuaded and shaped public opinions and attitudes. How cartoons are not
bound to be objective like regular news reporting, so opinions and prescriptions can be mixed with
factual beliefs. So we can see that political cartoons are a great media that span time but also
continents. They should be

This means that people that were not able to afford the products can now buy them causing an increase
of sales in The United States, Mexico and Canada. No tariffs allowed businesses to compete in the
world marketplace to expand and deliver customer goods. Big manufacturing companies saw that the
cheap labor was available in Mexico and moved their manufacturing companies. Many of these
companies had unions and the unions were negotiating for higher wages. This could have caused a
company to go bankrupt or invest in machines (robots) to replace people. This in turn led to
manufacturing companies moving to Mexico in order to make profit and continue lower prices. As a
business owner I would agree that just keeping a company afloat is not good business. Profits need to
be met or company can go bankrupt and jobs will be lost. Many people lost their jobs due
manufacturing companies moving to Mexico for profit. About 700,000 jobs were lost in the United
States with 55,000 being in Texas. Pg 18. Texas Public Policy released a study that El Paso is reported
to be hit the hardest by NAFTA. About 10,000 workers have been effected by the loss of jobs, yet the
El Paso region has an increase of exports creating 38,000 jobs since NAFTA . Economic growth is
seen in El Paso. El Paso is growing and seems to be under construction for the last 5 years. The
transportation industry is booming as evident by new businesses being built such as motels and
convenient stores near the main highways. Construction to accommodate the transportation industry
creates new jobs which leads to economic growth. In the last five years of traveling to El Paso and
back to Corpus Christi, no matter the time of day, the highways are busy with big truck/18 wheelers.

Belonging In Beneath Clouds By Ivan Sen Marsden
The film Beneath Clouds by Ivan Sen and the picture book The Rabbits composed by John Marsden
and illustrated by Shaun Tan portray the relationship between the representation of the ideas of
belonging and not belonging in a text as well as the meaning responders derive from these
representations. The texts convey perceptions of belonging and not belonging through the characters
interactions with others and the bonds they possess with the environments that surround them. Both
Sen s indigenous film and the adaptation of the colonisation of Australia by Marsden and Tan
demonstrate how investigating the concept of belonging may broaden and deepen the audiences
understanding of themselves and their world by utilising a variety of techniques. ... Show more

The Growing Concern on Food Safety
There is growing concern about food safety and especially about inputs of pathogenic microorganisms
with possible implications for human health and the environment [1]. Microbial activity is a primary
mode of deterioration of many foods and is often responsible for the loss of quality and safety.
Concern
over pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms in foods is increasing due to the increase in outbreaks of
foodborne disease [2]. It has been estimated that as many as 30% of people in the industrialized
countries
suffer from food borne diseases each year caused by microbes [3]. Food additives have been used for
centuries in the food processing practices for several purposes including the prevention of microbial
growth and increase in the food shelf lives [4]. Due to the excessive use of food preservatives which
some
of them are doubtful to be carcinogenic and teratogenic and also increasing consumer demand to
natural
foods with a long shelf life and without chemical preservatives, food producers trend to replace
chemical
preservatives with natural forms such as oils and herbal extracts as antibacterial additives [5, 6].
In the recent years, efforts have been devoted to find new antimicrobial materials from natural
resources
for food preservation [7]. Reports indicated that many extracts and essential oils of edible plants had
properties to prevent against a wide range of fungal contamination of foods [5, 7, 8, 9, 10].

  • 2. The Qin Dynasty And The Great Wall Of China Qin dynasty is a very important dynasty in the China history. It evolved from the state of Qin of the Warring States Period. Qin Dynasty was also known as the first dynasty to unify China. Emperor Qin managed to defeat six kingdoms one by one and eliminated all his enemies. However, in 221BC Emperor Qin decided to build a large building known as the Great Wall of China. He did that because he wanted to defend the Qin Dynasty that period from northern barbarians invading into the dynasty and disrupting the peace. He also thought he would be able to recruit labors to work on the Great Wall. Furthermore, Emperor Shi Huang was confident about having enough resources to build this Great Wall and he knew the ways to build it. These are the reasons persuaded Emperor Shi Huang to proceed with the construction of the Great Wall. The idea of building the wall intrigued Emperor Shi Huang after realizing the threat from northern barbarians invading into the dynasty and disrupting the peace. It started in 221BC, when Emperor Shih Huang wanted to unify all the states during the Warring States period. He was known as the first Emperor to unify China. Emperor Shi Huang ended the Zhou dynasty and destroyed the remaining 6 kingdoms and took control of it. The land which was divided by the 7 kingdoms was then unified under the Qin into one empire. Everything in the Qin Dynasty went well at that time. However, Emperor Shi Huang realized that there was always a threat from the northern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women and Flexibility in the Workplace Essay Women and Flexibility in the Workplace Gina Carithers SOC402 Michael Burton December 17, 2012 Women and Flexibility in the Workplace The focus of this paper is to evaluate factors that have affected women`s pay in the workforce. The analysis of historical factors affecting women`s flexibility in the workplace as a continuous social and structural issue is added to the paper to explain the need for change because of the demands that accompany working female caregivers in the home. Historical and statistical data is provided to validate the issues surrounding unequal pay scales women commonly experience in the workplace. A hypothesis is developed to suggest the type`s of change that women hope to see take place in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time the law was passed, it was estimated that women were earning 59% of the average wage (Giraffe, 2011). In 2011 the estimate had risen to 82% ratio of pay for women compared to men. Lower pay scales for women means lower retirement benefits, pension pay, and 401k`s. The low pay scales were insulting enough to the female gender but deeper issued existed such as the flexibility needed to care for children, home, and personal healthcare. Structural and Social Concerns Surrounding Women in the Workforce Women are typically the nurturers in the home. Mother`s have been responsible for childcare, PTA, grade mothers, and sports moms for many generations before males began filling the roles because females were working outside the homes. Although it is not uncommon in todays society to see dad`s stay at home and fill the roles typically filled by women; it is a relatively new role for males in the last 25 years. The National Organization for Women, 2012, reports that, Different societal expectations for wives compared to husbands and mothers compared to fathers . Taylor, 2000, quotes Rita Donaghy, president of the Trades Union Congress, stating, We want to see a labor market which does not penalize mothers but rather uses their skills in a modern and dynamic economy . (Code of Maryland regulations) According to the National Center for Assisted Living, (2001) assisted living facilities are typically stand alone facilities, but can often be a part of another facility within the long term continuum of care such as a nursing home, senior housing complex, retirement community, or independent living apartments. Assisted living facilities are different in appearance than nursing homes and other facilities in that they tend to offer a more home like environment. These residences may be condominiums, a residential house, or apartments with personalized decorations and room layouts. They typically offer common areas for dining and activities. Approximately half of ALF s are non profit, with the other half being for profit facilities. Very few assisted living facilities are government run. Because licensing regulations vary from state to state, ALF s can be known by various names including residential care, board and care, domiciliary care, personal care etc. Assisted living facilities offer different levels of care depending on the amount of assistance the resident requires. • 7. The Walking Qur An In addition to the embodiment of the Qur an through bodily transmissions and ethical cultivation, Rudolph Ware in his book, The Walking Qur an, proposes understanding embodiment of the Qur an as not only a bodily epistemology but also as an religious prism to perceive the ontology of human beings in both the past and present. In a follow up piece addressing criticisms and questions, Ware explains in one neat line the objective of his book: If I could add a single line [to The Walking Qur an], it would be that the book takes Qur an schooling as a window onto a particular epistemology of embodiment, and then uses that epistemology as a window into history ( Traditions 678). Not only does Ware propose an epistemology of embodiment but also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although he has been critiqued for disparaging Reformist variants of Islam, these critiques, in my opinion, fail to see his particular utilization of the embodiment of Qur anic knowledge. For instance, Adeline Masquelier in her essay Qur an Schooling and the Production of Mindful Bodies in West Africa is correct to critique Ware s final polemic against Reformist Islam as lacking a fair insight about its historical circumstances and relationship with the other Islamic discursive traditions; however, her comparison of Saba Mahmood s embodiment of piety exhibited in her book Politics of Piety and Ware s conceptualization of the term undercuts Ware s unique approach and paints embodiment with the same brush (Masquelier 189 190). Failing to acknowledge the epistemological project that comes with embodying the Qur an in Reformist Islam s particular way, such as the adoption of specific subjectivities and modes of piety, reduces the differences the West African epistemology possesses, for The Walking Qur an is not only the Qur an embodied but also the Qur an in action [his italics] (Ware, WQ 14). Overall, whether through the embodiment of the memorization and dispositions or the becoming of the literal walking, talking, and living Qur an, these two conceptualizations of embodiment prove the important point that the Qur an is intricately tied to the Muslim s corporeal interactions in this physical existence, for in every motion, the Qur an is ... If the first thing you thought of was a band you believe all those common misconceptions. How would you know if you refuse to try and listen to it? Most people choose not to go out on a limb and give this music a chance because they have a paranoia that it is evil. Kids who wear black and listen to rock music aren t all satan worshippers or terrible people. ~Andy Biersack. There is no reason that this music shouldn t be respected by society. Where did the misconception that rock and metal bands have meaningless lyrics come from? In fact, rock and metal bands tend to have deeper and more relatable lyrics than some(not all)songs that everyone seems to enjoy. An example is that one set of lyrics in a black veil brides song called never give in is Never give in, Never back down. When your life seems lost, fight against all odds. The Drill Sergeant My ex boyfriend represents the Drill Sergeant. He is one of those people whose motto is No pain, no gain. Of course, he assumes that everyone else follows this decree as well. Her outlook on life was to be the best at whatever she did, and exercising was no exception. She seemed perfectly sweet, but her competitive streak emerged one afternoon. Our leisurely jog gradually turned to a run, and then a full sprint. I glanced over at her and noticed the pained expression on her face. I had been jogging regularly by that that time, and was in pretty good shape. She gave up first, and The Competitor cannot stand to lose. We remained friends, of course, but never ran together again. Mr Nabokov explains that the author must be able to create something different and unique to sent planet spinnings in order to produce a successful book. While on the other hand to make yourself a good reader you must read a book with a fresh mindset as if you don t know what s to come, go in there expecting to learn something new and do not ruin the thrill of it. When reading a book there s a special order that we like to follow. We see it manually from left to right, but that s not the same case when looking at a picture we tend to open up our eyes and look at it at every angle. Once you ve reread a book you ll start seeing it as a painting instead of a regular book. Once you ve cracked open the case, now the reader can enter the game. And that s when the magic begins and people start praising the book and actually appreciate it. The attitude you bring into a book is fairly important when reading it. That is a very clever way of seeing what the meaning of reading is. However, when we come back, we will see how Mr. Holt defines reading based on his own experiences and work he has done. • 15. The Relief and Mistakes of the American Red Cross Makes Undoubtedly, the American Red Cross has done many wonders over the course of its existence. Whether it is providing relief from disasters, aiding the less fortunate nationally and internationally or saving lives with their blood program, the Red Cross has always been there to help the world become a safer place to live in. Most recently, this organization has had a strong impact in the recovery of Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Isaac, providing food and water, multiple shelters for people that have lost their homes and even counseling during such a devastating time ( Top 20 Accomplishments ). It can t be disputed that since its inception, the Red Cross has had a lasting impact on the overall well being of American citizens, instilling confidence in them that if a disaster does strike in their lives, the Red Cross is there to ease the pain a bit. However, much like any other organization, the Red Cross has had its fair share of flaws and mishaps. A crucial mistake in the business world may result in a substantial loss of money or even a sentence to prison. Unfortunately for the Red Cross, everything they do and participate in deals with the lives of everyday individuals. As a result, if their jobs aren t done correctly or mistakes are being made, it could put the lives of thousands at risk and therefore jeopardize their institution. Some may argue that in several instances, there has been mistakes made that have directly and negatively impacted the lives of Americans. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This week, I focused on observing their behavior in settings to work on tracking the correct accuracy, reliably, and validity (Cooper, J. O., Heron, T. E., Heward, W. L. 2007). However, before I could began tracking data I had to come up with two problem behaviors. The problem behaviors I came up with were Aggression and Non Compliance. In an effort to remove itself from its near bottom industry ranking, the company flirted occasionally with the prestige feature market during the 1930s, usually to its financial detriment. During this decade it did its best financially when it concentrated on its primary business: turning out low budget features at high speed. Universal s short subject releases maintained this philosophy throughout the 1930s with amazing consistency, considering the turnover in management (including the ouster of Laemmle and his son, Carl, Jr, in 1936). Early in the 1930s, the studio s emphasis was shifted to two reel comedies, starting with the likes of Slim Summerville, Arthur Lake and Benny Rubin as starring comedians. The Universal two reelers took a decidedly interesting swing when former Hal Roach studio manager Warren Doane was hired in 1932 to organize a production unit. Doane, in turn, brought in Roach employees James W. Horne, a young George Stevens and Alf Goulding as directors, as well as a long time member of Charles Chaplin s staff, Albert Austin. • 33. The Growing Concern on Food Safety There is growing concern about food safety and especially about inputs of pathogenic microorganisms with possible implications for human health and the environment [1]. Microbial activity is a primary mode of deterioration of many foods and is often responsible for the loss of quality and safety. Concern over pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms in foods is increasing due to the increase in outbreaks of foodborne disease [2]. It has been estimated that as many as 30% of people in the industrialized countries suffer from food borne diseases each year caused by microbes [3]. Food additives have been used for centuries in the food processing practices for several purposes including the prevention of microbial growth and increase in the food shelf lives [4]. Due to the excessive use of food preservatives which some of them are doubtful to be carcinogenic and teratogenic and also increasing consumer demand to natural foods with a long shelf life and without chemical preservatives, food producers trend to replace chemical preservatives with natural forms such as oils and herbal extracts as antibacterial additives [5, 6]. In the recent years, efforts have been devoted to find new antimicrobial materials from natural resources for food preservation [7].
