Western Imperialism
1. (a) The post WWII is marked as the rise of human rights. The universal human rights has become
apparent in the international system, and has become the basis of drafting the UDHR. The universal
human rights states all humans are born free and equal in dignity and rights. This phrase has
guaranteed and protected the human rights of all human beings without any distinction. However, the
universal notion of human rights has initiated controversy among many critiques. Some have argued
that the Declaration was another way of Western imperialism because the idea has adopted western
philosophical and political principles. This has instigated the rise of cultural relativism, which claimed
that every culture has specific beliefs and perspectives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(a) The universalists conceptualize rights as a special narrow category of rights based on a universal
notion of the inherent dignity of human beings and human rights claims are morally justified demands
to rectify injustice (Lecture 2). Human rights ensure that all human beings have these inherent dignity
and rights. The universalism puts more emphasis on the individual rights to impede states from
violation of these rights, winning over state sovereignty. The tension of this approach is the rise of
cultural legitimacy, claiming that rights are relative and culture are important to non Western states to
make international human rights feasible. The cultural relativists recognize that every culture has
specific world view, with its own notion of good and noble paths, its own notion of how to be a full
human (Lecture 2). To non Western countries that highly values and emphasizes cultural heritage and
traditions in daily life, the concept of human rights is redefined into a more local context that fits their
culture. As An Na im puts it, the violations of human rights take place due to the lack of cultural
legitimacy of human rights standards (2009: 68). Culture is significant to address and respect the
different ideas of human rights among different culture and to make the non western countries more
familiar with human rights. (b) An Na im is opposed to the universality of human rights and favors the
cultural relativist of human rights. He argues that the observance of human rights standards can be
improved through the enhancement of the cultural legitimacy of those standards (An Na im 2009: 69).
He emphasizes the importance of cross cultural legitimacy (An Na im 2009: 69) to develop human
rights through the interpretation of different cultural norms. He further asserts that universalism is
based on ethnocentricity and cultural diversity is unavoidable (An Na im 2009: 72,77). For example,
the cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment or punishment is not

Psychodynamic Approach Analysis
Jones and Butman (2012) in chapter four point out that contemporary psychodynamic approaches,
although they originate from Freud s view of personality development, psychodynamic view are less
biological and mechanistic. Psychodynamic approaches focuses more on individuals cognitive and
interpersonal process. Jones and Butman argue that psychodynamic approaches are divided into three
views: ego Psychology, object relations and self psychology. These theories propose that caregivers or
parents should foster both independence, and protection and nurturance so as to deter personality
disturbances. The ego psychology model argues that personality development occurs across the life
span. The theory suggests that the ego strives for adaptability,

Exit, Pursued By A Bear Essay
E.K. Johnston draws information from Shakespeare s, The Winter s Tale, to write her book, Exit,
Pursued by a Bear. For example, E.K. Johnston bases her story s conflict on Shakespeare s work. The
conflict in her story is how a girl struggles to obtain control of her life after being violated (Johnston
58); whereas, Shakespeare s story conflict is about a woman was falsely accused of having an affair
and suffered injustices (2.1). Johnston s story is very similar to Shakespeare s, because both have a
girl or woman struggle because of other s actions. Hermione in Exit, Pursued by a Bear, struggles to
manage of her life after she was sexually violated, and Hermione in The Winter s Tale, was in prison

Thematic Essay Things Fall Apart
Things Fall Apart Thematic Essay
How could only a few people move into a village and tear it apart. This what happens in Things Fall
Apart by Chinua Achebe. Okonkwo was famous and lived a good life in the village of Unoka until one
day Europeans came and brought on Christianity. When this happens, Okonkwo must try to stop these
men from disintegrating Ibo society. Social disintegration is an obvious theme in this book.
Throughout the book Chinua Achebe shows this theme through conflict, imager, and resolution.
Conflict is seen throughout the story between the Europeans and the Ibo people. When describing
what happened in the market at abame Obierika says, And they began to shoot. Everybody was killed,
(Achebe 139). The conflict here is between the people of Abame and the Europeans This is the start of
the social disintegration of the Ibo people. One of their villages had been destroyed and now the don t
know how to deal with the power of the Europeans. Later when Obierika is explaining what happened
in Umuofia while Okonkwo was gone and he says, Now he [the white man] has won our ... Show

sees, Okonkwo s body was dangling, (Achebe 207). Okonkwo was so angry the Ibo people did not go
to war so he killed himself to avoid punishment from the Europas. Okonkwo felt the Ibo were so torn
apart he could not live in that broken safety. He simply could not handle the thought of being ruled by
the Europeans. When the messengers are taking down Okonkwo s body Obierika says, That man was
one of the greatest men in Umuofia. You drove him to kill himself, (Achebe 208). Obierika wants the
Commissioner to know that he has torn lives apart and ruined a once great clan. The resolution shows
the final disintegration of the Ibo people as the Europeans take control and the resistance to their rule

American Reconstruction after the Civil War Essay
Reconstruction was a period of time after the Civil War (1865 1877) that was supposed to be the
rebuilding of America. It was also the process used to readmit all the Confederate states back into the
Union. There was controversy, however, on how to go about rebuilding the nation. Abraham Lincoln
proposed a lenient plan. After he was assassinated, Andrew Johnson proposed a very similar plan. The
Radical Republicans, a group of legislators that were in favor of freedmen s rights, were opposed to
both plans under Presidential Reconstruction . They initiated Congressional Reconstruction . Because
of the conflicting views, there was little cooperation between the Executive and Legislative branches.
This lead to many unsuccessful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Johnson stated that the seven remaining states would be admitted if: they withdrew its secession,
swore allegiance to Union, anul Confederate was debts, and ratify the 13th Amendment, which
abolished slavery. The only main difference being that Johnson did not want high ranking
Confederates and wealthy Southern landowners to take the oath needed to vote. The Radical
Republicans were infuriated by Johnson s Plan because it failed to effectively help former slaves.
They wanted a plan stricter on the punishment of the Southerners, and one that addressed the land,
voting, and protection under the law of slaves. This is why when Johnson pardoned all Southerners the
Radicals refused to admit the Southern representatives back into Congress. The Radical Republicans,
and the rest of Congress, were the ones who passed most of the bills for Reconstruction, because of
their ability to override the president with their majority. They expanded the Freedmen s Bureau,
which did show some progress in the helping of former slaves and poor white men. The Freedmen s
Bureau set up hospitals, schools, and also gave out supplies. This achieved the enablement of former
slaves having the right to free education. Later on, however, the Freedmen s Bureau became
neglected, and was often forgotten or overlooked. The Freedmen s Bureau is accurately described in
this following statement, This auspicious beginning belied the great disappointments that lay ahead,

Republican Party Research Paper
As many American Liberals have noticed the Democratic Party, supposedly their party, has been
losing big electorally. The presidency, the majority of state governorships, both houses of congress
and the majority of state assemblies have been lost by the Democrats to the Republican Party. This has
left many Democratic citizens wondering, what happened? Why did their party suddenly fall from
favor with the voting public? Though I do not hold myself out as having a definitive answer I do have
a hunch as to why the Democrats have been losing big at the polls. And fair warning, though I will try
to keep this as neutral as possible political biases do have a pesky way of sneaking into these things.

Their political strategies thus treat votes like sales and elections as winning market share in political
power. They don t get hung up on soundness of arguments nor their basis in factuality. All they focus
on is saying what they need to say in order to win votes. A big technique that I ve seen used, especially
by Donald Trump is appealing to confirmation bias, which my inner philosophy minor reminds me is a
logical fallacy. Nevertheless it works and Trump won far more support than anyone predicted he
would. This tactic is one that is commonly used by marketers to elicit a particular behavior from
groups of people and it transfers over seamlessly to the political realm. The legal and academic
argumentation techniques used by the Democrats were never meant to be used to elicit any behavior as
such it comes as no surprise that they don t transfer over to politics nearly as

Pacemaker Procedures Code Combinations
c. Pacemaker Procedures Code Combinations CMS received a request to examine a list of ICD 10
PCS procedure code combinations that describe procedures involving pacemakers to determine if
some procedure code combinations were excluded from the ICD 10 MS DRG assignments for MS
DRGs 242, 243, and 244 (Permanent Cardiac Pacemaker Implant with MCC, with CC, and without
CC/MCC). CMS proposed to modify the ICD 10 MS DRG logic so that if certain ICD 10 PCS
procedure codes describing procedures involving pacemaker devices listed is reported in combination
with one of the ICD 10 PCS procedure codes describing procedures involving certain leads, the case
would be assigned to MS DRGs 242, 243, and 244. CMS also examined their GROUPER logic for
MS DRGs 258 and 259 (Cardiac Pacemaker Device Replacement with and without MCC,
respectively). Assignments of cases to these MS DRGs also include qualifying ICD 10 PCS procedure
code combinations describing procedures that involve the removal of pacemaker devices and the
insertion of new devices. They thought their logic was overly complex and felt a more simplified
approach would be to create a list of all ICD 10 PCS procedure codes describing procedures involving
cardiac pacemaker device insertions. After consideration of public comments, CMS is finalizing their
proposal to modify the MS DRG logic for MS DRGs 242, 243, and 244 to establish that cases
reporting one ICD 10 PCS code from the list of procedure codes describing procedures

Tony The Tiger
Tigers are one of the fiercest species in the jungle, known for being courageous, strong, ambitious, and
independent. These animals fight to survive every day, but before knowing any of these characteristic
traits of the tiger I always wondered why people described themselves as the animal. Tigers have been
a great part of American culture, there is Tony the Tiger on the cover of the Frosted Flakes package,
Tigger the energetic tiger from the animated series Winnie the Pooh , there is even two famous songs,
one by a band named Survivor called Eye of the Tiger and another by famous pop singer Katy Perry

In the first sentence it states that Aunt Jennifer s tigers prance across a screen (Rich), which does not

two types of screens that it could possibly be. During this period cell phones were not created so that
is out, computers were not invented yet so that is another no, but there were screens for doors and
screens from a television. I am going to go with door screen because as the protagonist is a mother she
had duties to fulfill at the house, and sitting watching tv was not going to get anything accomplished.
As Aunt Jennifer is washing dishes, and tidying up the house for her hard working husband, she looks
outside from her depressing life and looks at her pride and joy, her children. Going back to the
meaning of tigers with their courage, ambitions, and strength the protagonist has none because she
gave it all to her children. You can tell that Jennifer has pride in her children from the words that are
being used in the first stanza, chivalry , and do not fear , they are strong, and they will continue to give
great joy and love. By the actions, and thoughts of Aunt Jennifer there you can see how she really
feels about her everyday life, by using psychoanalytical criticism you can see that she loves being a

Understanding Spinal Cord Injuries Essay examples
Understanding Spinal Cord Injuries
Spinal cord injuries can be very devastating. First we will discuss the spinal cord s structure and
function. Then we will tell you how the spinal cord is most commonly injured, along with some
statistics involved and some signs of spinal cord injury. We will explain some changes to the body
after spinal injuries. Finally we will talk about some of the research in helping spinal cord injury
victims. The spinal cord is the final common pathway from the brain to the muscles. It controls all the
sensory inputs received from different locations throughout the body. The spinal cord also controls
voluntary muscle responses. Some elementary reflexes are local to the spinal cord, but voluntary

Nerves from each segment of the spinal cord connect to specific regions of the body. The cervical
region or neck are referred to as C1 through C8; they control signals to the neck, arms, and hands. The
segments in thoracic or upper back region T1 through T12 relay signals to the torso and some parts of
the arms. The segments in the upper lumbar or mid back region just below the ribs, L1 through L5,
control signals to the hips and legs. Last, the sacral segments S1 through S5 lie just below the lumbar
segments in the mid back and control signals to the groin, toes, and some parts of the legs. The effects
of spinal cord injury at different segments reflect this organization.(SC Basic Anatomy of Spine
http://www.goes.com/billr/html/_anatomy_of_a_spinal_cord.html) Injuries to the spinal cord may be
caused indirectly, as by a blow to the head or a fall; by traffic accidents, sports injuries, or violence.
The consequences depend on the amount of damage the cord sustains and where the damage occurs.
Although spinal injuries are only a small fraction of all injuries; accidents cause an estimated 10,000
spinal cord injuries each year. Each year, more than two million Americans suffer a

The Diagnosis Personal Narrative
One fateful day at the end of June in 1998 when I was spending some time at home; my mother came

had been sick for some time and we all had anxiously been awaiting a prognosis. But none of us were
ready for the bumpy roads that lay ahead: testing, surgery, chemotherapy, nausea, headaches, and
fatigue. Even loud music would induce vomiting. He just felt all around lousy. After several surgeries

Rosalind Darwin
Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton faced challenges in their respective research as a result of religious
and cultural beliefs of the time influencing their work, but there is another individual who faced
different issues that influenced their research. It is fairly well known that James Watson and Francis
Crick discovered the structure of DNA, but it is not as commonly known that an individual by the
name of Rosalind Franklin also played a key role in this research. Rosalind Franklin had been trying
to uncover the secrets of DNA during the same time as Watson and Crick and she actually quite close
to figuring it out. At the time she didn t quite realize what she had and if she did than it would have
most certainly been her who would have been credited with the research. It wasn t until Watson and
Crick were shown Franklin s research that they were able to pull ahead and fully figure out the
structure of DNA. It was said that while Rosalind s work was fundamental to the discovery, she had
not been consulted on its use , meaning that she did a large part of the work and someone else was
given the credit (Maddox). Showing them the progress made by Franklin was done without their
permission. Franklin contributed a large part to the research done on the structure of DNA and it wasn

amount of work she contributed in the research of DNA is not completely clear, but it may have been

Introduction to Business Process Management
Business process management (BPM) is a management approach to make an enterprise s activities and
tasks to be more accurate, more competent and more efficient in adapting to the ever changing needs
of business. BPM is a far reaching merging of Business Process Reengineering, Business Process
Improvement, and Business Management strategies and procedures that are intended to convey both

It is good to consider an organization as a system because a system links inputs and outputs and the
flow of information from one point to the other. Organizations also focus on cross functional teams
and it is a combination of complex resources. Organizations have a need which is defined and goals to
reach their mission. People work as entities and they are a part of the organization.
The work of Porter is significant in the emphasis of the business process. He says value chain is a
comprehensive collection of all the activities that are performed to design, produce, and market,
deliver, and support a product line (Porter, 1985). When we combine the concept of the value chain
and system to the organization we understand that organizations span across functional departments
like finance, marketing, sales, and support etc.
Organizations implementing BPM Systems
One of the influential factors on implementation success that emerges from research, trade literature
and practice is the level of process orientation within an organization. (Parkes, 2002). Typical
advantages of implementing a BPM system in an organization are reduced lead times, fewer hand off
errors, and more flexibility to change the structure of supported business processes. (Parkes, 2002). In
the research community, there is some consensus that the essence of a BPMS is the functionality that
has been attributed historically to a workflow management system. (WfMS). (Van der Aalst et al.,
2003, p.

High School Football Comes With A Risk Essay
Although sports may help increase levels of fitness and overall health, is it worth it if you end up
breaking your bones anyways? Not to mention how some injuries would impact academics. Unless

sports seem to have a negative effect on our youth participants. Not many realize how many injuries

Young children having major physical injuries while participating in sports should be of more
concern. In the article High School Football Comes With a Risk, by Jeffrey Perkel it states that, ...boys

Automobile Insurance
Insurance is a legal contract that protects people from the financial costs that result from loss of life,
loss of health, lawsuits or property damage. (Nielson.) This protection is given to the customer in
exchange for a monthly payment to the company. This is a legal contract which is known as a policy,
binds the customer to the insurance company for the duration of the policy. Insurance, whether it be
life, health or auto, helps customers feel safe from everyday risks that can happen in life. Most
insurance is optional, although some states enforce a law that automobile insurance must be purchased
in order to register a car. Automobile insurance is very important. It helps the policy holder to protect

There is also a type of coverage referred to ask medical payments coverage. If an accident occurs, this
coverage will help repay the driver or passengers for medical expenses caused by the accident. This is

(Heath 2.) One final type is the uninsured motorist coverage. This provides the customer with
protection from accidents with someone who has not purchased car insurance. This type would also
cover hit and run accident that may occur. Also, uninsured motorist insurance coverage comes into
play when an at fault driver doesn t have enough liability coverage to pay for the damages from the

Insurance is a useful thing to invest in if you have possessions that are of value to you. It helps protect
you from accidents that a person cannot necessarily prevent in everyday life. Although insurance does
cost a large amount of money, in the long run the payback if an accident occurs, will be very useful in
taking care of the damages. There are many companies out there that offer insurance coverage. The

Theme Of Alienation In Frankenstein
People often find something wrong with things they do not view as normal, many times, these
different aspects of the world draw ire or even hatred of those around them. Similarly, it is common
that individuals within society will demean those who look, act, or sound differently. This problem
spans cultures and generations, and, as with most problems, there are noble men and women who fight
for the outside, the alienated, in different ways. One such method is through literature. In Mary
Shelley s novel Frankenstein, the monster only wants to be accepted by the human world, but man
constantly rejects him. It shows how people judge based on appearance and choose to alienate those
who fail to conform to their expectations. Throughout the story, the monster encounters different
people who all reject him because of how he appears. Victor spends two years attempting to create
life, yet when he does, he immediately hates his creation: now that I had finished, but the beauty of the
dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart (42). It is shocking how quick Victor
is to judge his own work. As soon as he comes to life and Victor sees this monstrosity that he has
created, he deems him hideous and feels his past two years were a waste of time. This shows how
superficial Victor is. He spends years of work creating life, but decides that the monstrosity he creates
is ugly and just leaves. He abandons this monster when he is in his infancy. What Victor does is

Good Without Evil In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
What is good without evil? Without evil, there would be no possible way for good to exist. Every
good aspect of something, there is always an underlying evil. This is shown in various literary periods
throughout history. In the epic, Ramayana, written by Valmiki, Rama is virtuous, wise, powerful and
respects others while batting Ravana. While the evil demon named Ravana is short tempered,
arrogant, and has no heroic elements when kidnapping Rama s wife, Sita. Rama is able to accomplish
what no one else can do which allows him to marry Sita. An evil demon named Ravana hears about
Sita s beauty, he then kidnaps her. Rama is desperate to win Sita back, so Lakshmana, his brother
helps by forming an alliance with the monkey king, Sugriva. They then invade Lanka with an arm of
monkeys. After many violent battles, Rama defeats Ravana and wins back Sita. Similar to Ramayana,
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight written by The Gawain Poet, also has good and evil aspects that
complement each other, without one, you cannot have the other. Sir Gawain is the good character that
stood up to the Green Knight s challenge and keeps his word to find the Green Knight a year and a day
later. The Green Knight is the evil enemy is the story that challenges a knight of the round table to a
contest. Both authors of Ramayana and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight exhibits several examples to

The Impact Of Jane Addams And Civil Rights
Civil rights demonstrates that all people, no matter what race, religion, color or class, are equal and
have equal rights. Although the civil rights time period is a subject that is not talked about much today,
it was years ago when there was a lot of segregation and discrimination. There were many African
Americans who made a difference in their fight for civil rights, but not many white people tried to
make that same difference. Jane Addams was one of the few white people who made this effort; she
had an even bigger impact on civil rights since she was female and wealthy, along with her skin color.
Jane Addams got involved in promoting civil rights because she grew up around many sophisticated
adults that also supported it. In fact, her own father was Addams greatest influence and she grew up
only knowing what he taught her. When she was just a little girl, her father told her that, ...it was
important for those who have enough to help those who do not. (Ray, 8). This quote shaped Addams
whole life since it was based off of helping people who weren t as lucky as her and promoting rights
for all people. Another time when Addams was just a little girl, her family helped African Americans
escape from slavery using the Underground Railroad. This was one of the first times she had seen how
African Americans were treated by most of the American population, and how dreadful their ... Show

Being rich and female helped her out because she thought about people who weren t as lucky as her.
In brief, civil rights was a subject everyone was supposed to be free to, but wasn t. It was a subject
that took lots of time, violence and lives, but overall it changed history and the way society is today. In
the final analysis, it can be said that Jane Addams got involved at a very young and did many things
inside and outside of the development of civil

SOPA, DMCA, and HIPAA
With the introduction of computers and the internet opens limitless possibilities for the world to
become so much more interconnected and interactive. However, that same limitless potential is both a
blessing and a curse. The open internet is a system that allows for unlimited access to almost any sort
of information. That same openness makes security for one s self difficult and there isn t anyone who
is completely secure. The introduction of the internet for broad use and public consumption also came
with the federal government s attempts to prevent the theft of personal information. In the late 1990s,
President Bill Clinton signed into law two provisions to protect copyright and affordability of
healthcare: the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act. In 2011, a bill was introduced into the United States House of Representatives
called the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) to combat online copyright infringement and online
trafficking in counterfeit goods. Obviously the DMCA and SOPA have much more in common as they
deal with copyright infringement. As such, they also have a profound impact on information security.
HIPAA is important as well as it keeps confidential information like medical records to only be
accessed by patients and medical professionals. All three of them touched on an important subject,
information security, that warrants the

The Characteristics Of Early Islamic Art And Early...
Early Christian art had a rough start. It started off not being wanted because it worshiped idols and
that was frowned upon in the early days. Although, as time went on and Christians started realizing the
benefits that art had at conveying their beliefs. The earliest Christian art occurred in the catacombs,
which were underground tombs under the city and they often depicted biblical symbols like Noah s
ark. Architecture also grew during this time, as people got more accepting of this culture things started
picking up. Art became in demand and so did architecture. Before the spike happened, early Christians
didn t have any designated places to worship and as soon as it became more accepted that changed.
Early Christian churches often mimicked roman work because it was so successful. An example of
this was Old St. Peter. Architecture and art weren t the only thing early Christians used to push
Christianity into the mainstream, music also played a role in the development Christianity. Early
Christian music prohibited instrumental accompaniment of any kind (Benton and Diyannni 185). This
was mainly because it wasn t considered religious it was considered un religious. As time progressed
this was eventually overturned. Early Christian music often used harps as a background for the
scriptures.
Islamic art is very different characteristics than early Christian art. The main difference is the location.
Early Christian art started in one place Jerusalem, but Islamic art came from

Essay On Willy Death Of A Salesman
You know how is it when you love someone? And the hard part, the bad part, the Jerry Springer Show
part is that you never stop loving someone. There s always a piece of them in your heart.
― Neil Gaiman, Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders It was like that with Willy. Willy the
majestic. Willy the loving. Willy the loved. Willy, the one who was not there. Willy, who I would love,
carrying a piece of him in my heart until the day I die. Willy, who will live on in memory until that,
too, fades. Willy, who will live on eternally, from this paper into the mind. From the mind onto the
paper. Willy, who will forever remain here. Willy, Willy, Willy. Willy, who I would constantly think
about: his affection, his sagacity, and his kindness. Willy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking back, it all began with a duck, the only source of discord in his life. The duck would chase
him, attempt to hug him, wordlessly crying I love you, and Willy (oh Willy, Willy, Willy the just,
Willy the brave) would run, afraid of the loud, thundering feet, constantly behind him, following him.
Chasing him out of his domain. April showers bring May flowers It has been noted that Willy (Willy
the noble, Willy the fair) was struck particularly harshly by the passing of his sister. Remember you
are mortal. Remember that you will die. After her death, Willy (Willy the strong, Willy the
understanding) was never quite the same. He was more tired, more dejected, more depressed. April
showers bring May flowers Then there was the cheetah. At this point the memory of the duck had
faded away into oblivion, and all was peaceful for some time, but the cheetah brought renewed
boundless energy Into Willy s (Willy the quiet, Willy the peaceful) tranquil world. Eventually, it
learned its place, but the strenuous exercise of subduing it and keeping it there had taken its toll on the
great Willy (Willy the caring, Willy the subdued), and contributed to his

Leadership Influences Throughout My Career
1. Leadership is creating an environment where individuals within your sphere of influence are
inspired to move forward with the short term goals, plans, missions, and strategic intent of an
organization while performing within the bounds of that organizations moral and ethical boundaries.
2. The leadership influences throughout my career stem mostly from positive interactions with my
supervisors. Although there are some instances where negative attitudes and leadership affected my
professional career, those moments are far outweighed by the positive influences I have routinely been
fortunate enough to experience. To be fair, I had created situations early on in the Coast Guard that put
some individuals in a position to make some tough decisions. I would not have been faced with the
effects of poor leadership in these instances had I not acted in certain ways. Both positive and negative
experiences can be filled with leadership influence and addressing both is the only way to fully cover
what has affected me throughout my career.
3. In 1997 I was a Fireman Apprentice onboard the CGC DILIGENCE and considered myself a hard
worker dedicated to the unit and Coast Guard missions. For the most part there was nothing too
noteworthy that happened for the first 10 months I was onboard that created a specifically memorable
positive leadership moment, there was a consistent 10 months of supervisors staying involved and
encouraging me early in my career. Their actions set the

Historical Accuracy Of Red Tails
In 1939 the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People started to target the military
s segregational policies. Civic groups and negro newspapers began a campaign around the country to
integrate the armed forces. In 1941 a student of Howard University filed a lawsuit to force the air
corps to accept him into training. The corps answered to this by creating a segregated unit to train
black pilots. The Corps created segregated group called the Tuskegee airmen. The Tuskegee Airmen
were a group of african americans who volunteered to become america s first black military pilots. My
opinion of whether or not the movie Red Tails was historically accurate is that I believe it was
accurate up to a movies . It shows how the blacks were

Gas Utilization Of Oil And Gas Technologies
Although the difficulty in storing processing, transporting and distributing gas makes it difficult to
utilise (Cost of transporting per unit energy is about 10 times higher than that of oil) (Thomas et al,
2000), the evolution in oil and gas technologies has presented many new ways for the
commercialisation of APG, Technological options for the monetisation of APG categorised into the
methods available for getting gas from production sites to consumers where it can consumed. In this
chapter the various methods would be briefly described, highlighting obtainable products and benefits,
challenges and limitations and viability conditions. These methods are summarised as shown in figure
10. Figure 10: Paths to gas monetisation 4.1.1 Pipelines This is the oldest and simplest form of gas
utilization. It involves transporting treated gas from producers directly to its consumers (Speight,
2007; Kidnay et al., 2006) 4.1.1.1 Products and Benefits The product is pipeline quality gas for
domestic, commercial and industrial use or for further processing. Utilized mainly for power and heat
generation. Once in place, this system aids the utilization of massive amounts of APG a well planned
out pipeline network could supply numerous consumers from numerous producers 4.1.1.2 Challenges
and Limitations The Pipeline system is inflexible. Once built, routes cannot be changed and additional
connections are complex and uneconomical. Once piping diameters are decided, quantities that can be

Fornatale s The Story Of Rock N Roll
In the beginning, rock n roll was perceived as a threat to the established order, and of course that is
exactly what it was. Sometimes explicitly, sometimes implicitly, rock n roll tested limits and
questioned authority (Fornatale, 1). This quote from Pete Fornatale in his book, The Story of Rock n
Roll, states how rebellious rock music is. Through the years, rock music has been a thriving genre of
music. Rock is known for its rhythm, influence, and lyrics spanning from politics to depression.
Starting from the classic rock n roll to heavy metal, rock s many genres can satisfy anybody s tastes in
music. In this essay, we will discuss rock history, rock genres, and my taste in the genre. Rock music

I grew up listening mostly to Alice in Chains, because my mom loved them and would play it in the
car. I like Nirvana, but I m not a huge fan of them. I ve recently been getting into nineties grunge
bands, like Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, and Pearl Jam. Interesting fact, Nirvana s drummer
Dave Grohl went to make the post grunge band Foo Fighters after Kurt Cobain s suicide. Finally, let s
talk about heavy metal. Before ninth grade, I hated modern heavy metal. I thought it sounded like
garbage, but now it s probably my favorite kind of rock. I love the instrumentals, vocals, and overall
aggression to the music. My favorite heavy metal bands are Slipknot, Five Finger Death Punch,
Killswitch Engage, and Avenged Sevenfold. In conclusion, I m a big fan of rock music in general.
Through the years, rock music has been a thriving genre of music. Starting from the classic rock n roll
to heavy metal, rock s many genres can satisfy anybody s tastes in music. Rock has been an influential
genre to both culture and myself. Rock has been a revolutionary genre, where many talented people
can experiment and change up the sound. While rock has been pretty quiet in recent years, I will

Gogol Ganguli Quotes
For my parents generation, the idea was not that marriage was about some kind of idealized, romantic
love; it was a partnership. It s about creating family; it s about creating offspring. Aasif Mandvi. This
quote is an example of how Gogol Ganguli couldn t accept his parent s traditions and wanted to follow
his own ways. Gogol never accepted his past and it led to him not being happy with himself. As he
grew up he was introduced to the American ways and seemed to quickly embrace them. Although, on
the inside he was split into two different people. Gogol never attained true happiness because of his
ability to not fully accept his Indian culture. It s a struggle that is displayed through his whole life.

He is afraid to be Nikhil, someone he doesn t know. Who doesn t know him. (57). His parents make
him take the name of Nikhil as his good name, a name in the Indian culture that is used for
identification in the outside world (26). In his earlier years he has trouble with his name because he
thinks he doesn t need a good name. He just wants to be Gogol. It is as Nikhil that he loses his
virginity at a party at Ezra Stiles, with a girl wearing a plaid woolen skirt and combat boots and
mustard tights (105). Later in his life he starts to use his good name, Nikhil, and it seems he becomes a
new person and enjoys life. The truth is Gogol isn t enjoying life, Nikhil is. Without people in the
world to call him Gogol, no matter how long he himself lives, Gogol Ganguli will, once and for all,
vanish from the lips of loved ones, and so, cease to exist. Yet the thought of this eventual demise
provides no sense of victory, no solace. It provides no solace at all (289). After the divorce of his wife
and the death of his dad, he learns the importance of his name. This is a battle all his life. His name
makes him who he is and he never understood so he was never truly happy. His name didn t allow him
to be happy because he accept himself as

Changes In The Ottoman Empire
The decrease of the Ottoman state made the beginning of reform essential, while in the meantime
expanded the bartering force of capable European nations that wished to advance their own particular
investments. These states meddled with the interior undertakings of the Ottoman state and pushed for
changes with the point that, through the presentation of reforms, they would promote new opportunity
and better guarantees for existing interests. Meanwhile, these states expected that a further decrease in
the Ottoman Empire would strengthen political and military unsteadiness in the Balkans, which
consequently could also debilitate the security of Europe.
Determined by need and political weight, in the early 19th century, the Ottoman Empire presented an
arrangement of political changes known as Tanzimat. Among others, these changes went for
reinforcing further the guideline toward oneself of different non Muslim amasses and acquaint their
political uniformity with the Muslims under the idea of Ottomanism. The Tanzimat changes nullified
the customary qualification of the Ottoman subjects to those belonging to the ummah and viewed

main precepts were: the guarantee of the life and property of all imperial subjects; the prohibition of
punishment without a fair trial; implicit recognition of the equality of Muslim and non Muslim
subjects before the law; taxation in keeping with individual income; abolition of tax farming; and

  • 2. Western Imperialism 1. (a) The post WWII is marked as the rise of human rights. The universal human rights has become apparent in the international system, and has become the basis of drafting the UDHR. The universal human rights states all humans are born free and equal in dignity and rights. This phrase has guaranteed and protected the human rights of all human beings without any distinction. However, the universal notion of human rights has initiated controversy among many critiques. Some have argued that the Declaration was another way of Western imperialism because the idea has adopted western philosophical and political principles. This has instigated the rise of cultural relativism, which claimed that every culture has specific beliefs and perspectives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (a) The universalists conceptualize rights as a special narrow category of rights based on a universal notion of the inherent dignity of human beings and human rights claims are morally justified demands to rectify injustice (Lecture 2). Human rights ensure that all human beings have these inherent dignity and rights. The universalism puts more emphasis on the individual rights to impede states from violation of these rights, winning over state sovereignty. The tension of this approach is the rise of cultural legitimacy, claiming that rights are relative and culture are important to non Western states to make international human rights feasible. The cultural relativists recognize that every culture has specific world view, with its own notion of good and noble paths, its own notion of how to be a full human (Lecture 2). To non Western countries that highly values and emphasizes cultural heritage and traditions in daily life, the concept of human rights is redefined into a more local context that fits their culture. As An Na im puts it, the violations of human rights take place due to the lack of cultural legitimacy of human rights standards (2009: 68). Culture is significant to address and respect the different ideas of human rights among different culture and to make the non western countries more familiar with human rights. (b) An Na im is opposed to the universality of human rights and favors the cultural relativist of human rights. He argues that the observance of human rights standards can be improved through the enhancement of the cultural legitimacy of those standards (An Na im 2009: 69). He emphasizes the importance of cross cultural legitimacy (An Na im 2009: 69) to develop human rights through the interpretation of different cultural norms. He further asserts that universalism is based on ethnocentricity and cultural diversity is unavoidable (An Na im 2009: 72,77). For example, the cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment or punishment is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Psychodynamic Approach Analysis Jones and Butman (2012) in chapter four point out that contemporary psychodynamic approaches, although they originate from Freud s view of personality development, psychodynamic view are less biological and mechanistic. Psychodynamic approaches focuses more on individuals cognitive and interpersonal process. Jones and Butman argue that psychodynamic approaches are divided into three views: ego Psychology, object relations and self psychology. These theories propose that caregivers or parents should foster both independence, and protection and nurturance so as to deter personality disturbances. The ego psychology model argues that personality development occurs across the life span. The theory suggests that the ego strives for adaptability, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The conflict in her story is how a girl struggles to obtain control of her life after being violated (Johnston 58); whereas, Shakespeare s story conflict is about a woman was falsely accused of having an affair and suffered injustices (2.1). • 6. Thematic Essay Things Fall Apart Things Fall Apart Thematic Essay How could only a few people move into a village and tear it apart. This what happens in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Okonkwo was famous and lived a good life in the village of Unoka until one day Europeans came and brought on Christianity. When this happens, Okonkwo must try to stop these men from disintegrating Ibo society. Social disintegration is an obvious theme in this book. Throughout the book Chinua Achebe shows this theme through conflict, imager, and resolution. Conflict is seen throughout the story between the Europeans and the Ibo people. When describing what happened in the market at abame Obierika says, And they began to shoot. Everybody was killed, (Achebe 139). The conflict here is between the people of Abame and the Europeans This is the start of the social disintegration of the Ibo people. One of their villages had been destroyed and now the don t know how to deal with the power of the Europeans. You drove him to kill himself, (Achebe 208). Obierika wants the Commissioner to know that he has torn lives apart and ruined a once great clan. • 7. American Reconstruction after the Civil War Essay Reconstruction was a period of time after the Civil War (1865 1877) that was supposed to be the rebuilding of America. It was also the process used to readmit all the Confederate states back into the Union. There was controversy, however, on how to go about rebuilding the nation. Abraham Lincoln proposed a lenient plan. After he was assassinated, Andrew Johnson proposed a very similar plan. The Radical Republicans, a group of legislators that were in favor of freedmen s rights, were opposed to both plans under Presidential Reconstruction . They initiated Congressional Reconstruction . Because of the conflicting views, there was little cooperation between the Executive and Legislative branches. This lead to many unsuccessful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johnson stated that the seven remaining states would be admitted if: they withdrew its secession, swore allegiance to Union, anul Confederate was debts, and ratify the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery. The only main difference being that Johnson did not want high ranking Confederates and wealthy Southern landowners to take the oath needed to vote. The Radical Republicans were infuriated by Johnson s Plan because it failed to effectively help former slaves. They wanted a plan stricter on the punishment of the Southerners, and one that addressed the land, voting, and protection under the law of slaves. This is why when Johnson pardoned all Southerners the Radicals refused to admit the Southern representatives back into Congress. The Radical Republicans, and the rest of Congress, were the ones who passed most of the bills for Reconstruction, because of their ability to override the president with their majority. They expanded the Freedmen s Bureau, which did show some progress in the helping of former slaves and poor white men. The Freedmen s Bureau set up hospitals, schools, and also gave out supplies. This achieved the enablement of former slaves having the right to free education. Later on, however, the Freedmen s Bureau became neglected, and was often forgotten or overlooked. The Freedmen s Bureau is accurately described in this following statement, This auspicious beginning belied the great disappointments that lay ahead, (CITE TEXTBOOK). Many of ... • 8. Republican Party Research Paper As many American Liberals have noticed the Democratic Party, supposedly their party, has been losing big electorally. The presidency, the majority of state governorships, both houses of congress and the majority of state assemblies have been lost by the Democrats to the Republican Party. This has left many Democratic citizens wondering, what happened? Why did their party suddenly fall from favor with the voting public? Though I do not hold myself out as having a definitive answer I do have a hunch as to why the Democrats have been losing big at the polls. And fair warning, though I will try to keep this as neutral as possible political biases do have a pesky way of sneaking into these things. A major difference between the Democratic Party ... They don t get hung up on soundness of arguments nor their basis in factuality. All they focus on is saying what they need to say in order to win votes. A big technique that I ve seen used, especially by Donald Trump is appealing to confirmation bias, which my inner philosophy minor reminds me is a logical fallacy. Nevertheless it works and Trump won far more support than anyone predicted he would. This tactic is one that is commonly used by marketers to elicit a particular behavior from groups of people and it transfers over seamlessly to the political realm. The legal and academic argumentation techniques used by the Democrats were never meant to be used to elicit any behavior as such it comes as no surprise that they don t transfer over to politics nearly as ... • 9. Pacemaker Procedures Code Combinations c. Pacemaker Procedures Code Combinations CMS received a request to examine a list of ICD 10 PCS procedure code combinations that describe procedures involving pacemakers to determine if some procedure code combinations were excluded from the ICD 10 MS DRG assignments for MS DRGs 242, 243, and 244 (Permanent Cardiac Pacemaker Implant with MCC, with CC, and without CC/MCC). CMS proposed to modify the ICD 10 MS DRG logic so that if certain ICD 10 PCS procedure codes describing procedures involving pacemaker devices listed is reported in combination with one of the ICD 10 PCS procedure codes describing procedures involving certain leads, the case would be assigned to MS DRGs 242, 243, and 244. CMS also examined their GROUPER logic for MS DRGs 258 and 259 (Cardiac Pacemaker Device Replacement with and without MCC, respectively). Assignments of cases to these MS DRGs also include qualifying ICD 10 PCS procedure code combinations describing procedures that involve the removal of pacemaker devices and the insertion of new devices. They thought their logic was overly complex and felt a more simplified approach would be to create a list of all ICD 10 PCS procedure codes describing procedures involving cardiac pacemaker device insertions. After consideration of public comments, CMS is finalizing their proposal to modify the MS DRG logic for MS DRGs 242, 243, and 244 to establish that cases reporting one ICD 10 PCS code from the list of procedure codes describing procedures ... I am going to go with door screen because as the protagonist is a mother she had duties to fulfill at the house, and sitting watching tv was not going to get anything accomplished. As Aunt Jennifer is washing dishes, and tidying up the house for her hard working husband, she looks outside from her depressing life and looks at her pride and joy, her children. Going back to the meaning of tigers with their courage, ambitions, and strength the protagonist has none because she gave it all to her children. You can tell that Jennifer has pride in her children from the words that are being used in the first stanza, chivalry , and do not fear , they are strong, and they will continue to give great joy and love. It finally arrived, and as my mom and I drove down the small, dirt, boy scout camp road, you could almost slice through the tension in the car. I walked up the path, my heart echoing the faint sound of a beating drum. As we came upon a clearing I began to feel nervous and a bit unsure. No one knew what to expect. Familiar faces came into view. Some were faces I hadn t seen in years. We felt the urge to display our excitement, but we were told there was a sweat lodge nearby, and to resist the temptation. I wandered amongst the blur of faces saying hello to my large extended family, of life long friends. I eventually found the man I was looking for. Our reason for gathering in the sweltering heat. The common bond we all shared. Looking upon his withered body almost broke my heart. He looked frail, nothing but brittle bones beneath his skin. • 14. Rosalind Darwin Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton faced challenges in their respective research as a result of religious and cultural beliefs of the time influencing their work, but there is another individual who faced different issues that influenced their research. It is fairly well known that James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the structure of DNA, but it is not as commonly known that an individual by the name of Rosalind Franklin also played a key role in this research. Rosalind Franklin had been trying to uncover the secrets of DNA during the same time as Watson and Crick and she actually quite close to figuring it out. It is good to consider an organization as a system because a system links inputs and outputs and the flow of information from one point to the other. Organizations also focus on cross functional teams and it is a combination of complex resources. Organizations have a need which is defined and goals to reach their mission. People work as entities and they are a part of the organization. The work of Porter is significant in the emphasis of the business process. He says value chain is a comprehensive collection of all the activities that are performed to design, produce, and market, deliver, and support a product line (Porter, 1985). When we combine the concept of the value chain and system to the organization we understand that organizations span across functional departments like finance, marketing, sales, and support etc. Organizations implementing BPM Systems One of the influential factors on implementation success that emerges from research, trade literature and practice is the level of process orientation within an organization. (Parkes, 2002). Typical advantages of implementing a BPM system in an organization are reduced lead times, fewer hand off errors, and more flexibility to change the structure of supported business processes. (Parkes, 2002). In the research community, there is some consensus that the essence of a BPMS is the functionality that has been attributed historically to a workflow management system. (WfMS). • 18. Theme Of Alienation In Frankenstein People often find something wrong with things they do not view as normal, many times, these different aspects of the world draw ire or even hatred of those around them. Similarly, it is common that individuals within society will demean those who look, act, or sound differently. This problem spans cultures and generations, and, as with most problems, there are noble men and women who fight for the outside, the alienated, in different ways. One such method is through literature. In Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein, the monster only wants to be accepted by the human world, but man constantly rejects him. It shows how people judge based on appearance and choose to alienate those who fail to conform to their expectations. Throughout the story, the monster encounters different people who all reject him because of how he appears. Victor spends two years attempting to create life, yet when he does, he immediately hates his creation: now that I had finished, but the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart (42). It is shocking how quick Victor is to judge his own work. As soon as he comes to life and Victor sees this monstrosity that he has created, he deems him hideous and feels his past two years were a waste of time. This shows how superficial Victor is. He spends years of work creating life, but decides that the monstrosity he creates is ugly and just leaves. He abandons this monster when he is in his infancy. What Victor does is ... Every good aspect of something, there is always an underlying evil. This is shown in various literary periods throughout history. In the epic, Ramayana, written by Valmiki, Rama is virtuous, wise, powerful and respects others while batting Ravana. While the evil demon named Ravana is short tempered, arrogant, and has no heroic elements when kidnapping Rama s wife, Sita. Rama is able to accomplish what no one else can do which allows him to marry Sita. An evil demon named Ravana hears about Sita s beauty, he then kidnaps her. Rama is desperate to win Sita back, so Lakshmana, his brother helps by forming an alliance with the monkey king, Sugriva. They then invade Lanka with an arm of monkeys. After many violent battles, Rama defeats Ravana and wins back Sita. Similar to Ramayana, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight written by The Gawain Poet, also has good and evil aspects that complement each other, without one, you cannot have the other. Although the civil rights time period is a subject that is not talked about much today, it was years ago when there was a lot of segregation and discrimination. There were many African Americans who made a difference in their fight for civil rights, but not many white people tried to make that same difference. Jane Addams was one of the few white people who made this effort; she had an even bigger impact on civil rights since she was female and wealthy, along with her skin color. However, that same limitless potential is both a blessing and a curse. The open internet is a system that allows for unlimited access to almost any sort of information. That same openness makes security for one s self difficult and there isn t anyone who is completely secure. The introduction of the internet for broad use and public consumption also came with the federal government s attempts to prevent the theft of personal information. In the late 1990s, President Bill Clinton signed into law two provisions to protect copyright and affordability of healthcare: the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. In 2011, a bill was introduced into the United States House of Representatives called the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) to combat online copyright infringement and online trafficking in counterfeit goods. Obviously the DMCA and SOPA have much more in common as they deal with copyright infringement. As such, they also have a profound impact on information security.
