1. In President Obama s speech at West Point, he announced that 30,000 additional troops would be
sent to Afghanistan. He made this decision because he said it was vital to the United States national
interest. The vital national interest at risk in President Obama s address is the security and safety of the
American people as well as the security of our allies and the common security of the world. By
involving the military and increasing the troop strength, President Obama can achieve the objectives
of his strategy. His objectives are to keep the Taliban from becoming powerful, prevent them from

In order to advance the vital interests of the United States, we need a military that is equipped with
best of everything and the backing of a nation to use them to defend our national interests and goals
when needed.
2. The National Defense Strategy (NDS) counterbalances the Defense Departments tendency to focus
on winning conventional conflicts rather than irregular wars by empowering those small nations to
improve the security of their countries to prevent conflicts from happening. The NDS focuses on the
different irregular warfare tactics that can be used by our enemies in the strategic environment. It
gives us guidance on what we need to do to prevent the use of these irregular warfare tactics. It was
not until the last decade that the U.S. military started fighting the irregular wars; our Special Forces
units were the ones that were fighting the unconventional wars. The U.S. military has had a difficult
time changing its focus on fighting conventional wars to fighting irregular wars. During the Vietnam
War, the U.S. military became very experienced in guerrilla warfare tactics. However, when that war
ended the focus shifted back to fighting the conventional wars and that experience was lost. Now,
because of the lack of experience, the U.S. military is having a difficult time fighting the
unconventional wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The 2008 NDS attempts to counterbalance the focus on
conventional wars by emphasizing

Athletes During The Winter Olympics
The 2010 Winter Olympic Games are rapidly approaching with athletes from all around the world
getting ready to compete for the gold medal. The winter Olympics are considerably smaller than the
summer Olympics as there are less options for winter sports played as during the summer ones. There
are also fewer countries and athletes competing as some countries don t have these sports or the winter
climate or terrain to sustain a winter sport. This does not always prevent athletes from competing,
however, as proven by the Jamaican bobsledding team years ago. They took strong runners and
athletes from Jamaica and taught them the basics of the bobsled using a wooden sled on wheels. Their
initial particpation into the Olympics was a big crowd pleaser. This article mentions a few of the
various sports at the Olympics performed by some athletes like the Telluride ski instructor that teaches

Florence Nightingale Essay
Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale, a well educated nurse, was recruited along with 38 other nurses for service in a
hospital called Scutari during the Crimean War in 1854 . It was Nightingale s approaches to nursing
that produced amazing results. Florence Nightingale was responsible for crucial changes in hospital
protocol, a new view on the capabilities and potential of women, and the creation of a model of
standards that all future nurses could aspire towards.
Florence Nightingale was born on May 12th 1820. Her father, who was a wealthy and intelligent man,
believed that women deserved an education. Thus, Florence Nightingale and her sister were educated
in Italian, Latin, Greek, History, and Mathematics. This is quite ... Show more content on

The results that Nightingale achieved using her methods caused her to receive great status from the
British press, who referred to her as The Lady of The Lamp because of her late night rounds to check
on the soldiers in her care. Her praise enabled her to establish a nursing school which taught the
procedures and ethics that she had created, bringing about a new line of nurses which possessed a
superior knowledge of medicine and hospital maintenance. Thus, the teachings of Florence
Nightingale were spread to the next generation of nurses, and to all of the generations to come.
Florence Nightingale changed the public s views of a woman s potential and capabilities in her era.
Victorian women of her age group did not attend universities or pursue professional careers . The
success of the Scutari post was amazing, and the fact that a woman achieved these feats was even
more astounding to her peers. Nightingale was the first woman to be given the British Order of Merit,
in 1907 for her work . From Nightingale s example, it could be seen that a woman achieving
spectacular results was indeed possible, and the inferiority of the female gender was now in question.
Florence Nightingale became a role model for other nurses around her. Linda Richards, who visited
Ms. Nightingale at her home in England in 1877, said,
The one dream of my nursing years was being fulfilled: I was indeed talking with the one woman

usage of inhalant drugs than any other age group or demographic (Nakawaki Crano, 2015). Inhalant
use is a very popular drug for teens in today s society.
Section C: The National Institute on Drug Abuse list four main types of inhalants: volatile solvents,

are liquids that vaporize at room temperature (e.g. paint thinners, markers, and glue). Aerosols are
sprays that contain propellants (e.g. deodorant sprays, vegetable oil sprays, aerosol computer cleaner,
spray paint). Gases can be found in household or commercial products (e.g. butane lighters, whipped
cream aerosols, and refrigerant gases). Nitrates are sexual enhancers (e.g. cyclohexyl, butyl, room
odorizer and leather cleaner). Most of the drugs listed are administered by the process of inhalation
which can be indicated by the name inhalants. Sniffing and huffing are the two most common forms of
administration but bagging is also popular. Sniffing is when you sniff the chemical from an open

ASSIGNMENT 1 CO LOCATION VS VIRTUAL GROUPS Introduction Co location is an approach
to team building that employs the strategy of placing team members in the same place for the purpose
of improving their performance as a team. This strategy uses the benefit of a face to face interaction to

Why Cosmetic Surgery Improves Mental Health
Alecia Colvin A main motivator for getting cosmetic surgery is the desire of being more satisfied with
one s own appearance and improving self esteem. However, research has shown that this is not always
the case. There have been variable results showing whether cosmetic surgery will improve
psychological variables such as body image, self esteem, and mental health. Body image specifically
has been suggested to be a crucial factor in the desire to undergo cosmetic surgery. This is based off
two important components including body image evaluation, referring to how satisfied a person is
with his or her own body, and body image orientation, indicating how important body image is for a
person. A person with a low body image evaluation combined with a high body image orientation
increases the likelihood of a person wanting plastic surgery. Mental health aspects have also been
addressed in research literature. The general question here is whether cosmetic surgery improves
mental health despite previous psychological state.
Studies done in the past have shown variable results. Several studies done have mainly looked at
breast reduction. Only a few studies have examined postoperative changes in other cosmetic surgery
procedures or have looked a several surgery types. There has been evidence suggesting that body
image evaluation improves after breast reduction and augmentation surgery. In another study, results
showed no significant improvement with cosmetic surgery.

Popular Kids vs Unpopular Kids
Popular Kids vs. Unpopular Kids Everyone wants to be the popular kid in high school right? Not

Just imagine the sound of a thousand flies buzzing down the hallway with the latest gossip. In a matter
of one day, one comment could be transformed into a rumor and spread through the whole school like
wild fire. Drama inevitably corrupts most teens but popular teens thrive on it like an addiction, and
sometimes create lies just to ruin one s reputation. True friends, who might not be the most popular
kids in school, but they would also never talk about a friend behind his or her back just to gain a
higher reputation with the popular click (Article one). Staying out of drama can help one feel less
stressed. Avoiding it can also stop individuals from getting involved in something they might regret.
Gossip is difficult to find roaming among the unpopular group because they rarely feel the need to
seek attention or hurt someone s feelings by spreading rumors. They are already content and aware of
how to treat individuals as they would like to be treated. When the weekend hits it is common for the
popular click to go out and party. Everyone hears the stories of how drunk someone got or how the
cops busted a few unfortunate teenagers. Even the best of teens get peer pressured into going to the

Danilo Blandon s Use Of Crack Cocaine In The United States
In 1996, Gary Webb claimed that black men were incarcerated for charges dealing with selling
cocaine because of the CIA. Thousands of young black men are serving long prison sentences for
selling cocaine a drug that was virtually unobtainable in black neighborhoods before members of the
CIA s army started bringing it into South Central in the 1980s at bargain basement prices. This claim
outraged members of the black community because it reaffirmed suspicions of the government

The Washington Post continues on to say, ... No evidence of specific transactions or of explicit

In this advertisement Subaru Canada is also portraying a sense of Japanese pride. Sumo wrestlers are

Rose For Emily Isolation
A Rose for Emily is a short story written by William Faulkner. The story follows a southern town after
the civil war and with the death of Miss Emily. As the town gossips about the mysterious house that
no one has been inside for the past ten years, the secrets that Miss Emily had been hiding in the house
is also discussed. The story then picks up before Emily s death when her father dies. After being in
denial that her father is gone, she meets a man, Homer, and begins dating him. Shortly after, Emily
buys an arsenic and invites Homer to her house, even though he is not the marrying type. The town
never see s Homer after that night and rarely sees Emily. A smell starts to arise from the house and her
taxes pile up. Ten years later, Miss Emily dies and the town finally goes inside. What they find is a
man s skeleton on a dusty bed and, next to it, a strand of gray hair. Faulkner s story demonstrates to
readers how isolation and living the past can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The South said goodbye to slavery and started to become industrialized. Many, including Miss Emily,
did not like it. Faulkner pays close attention to the dying south and uses specific elements, like the old
southern house, to symbolize living in the past. In addition to the house, Homer, a Yankee, is
introduced into Emily s life. Perhaps she killed Homer because he represented change and the north,
or perhaps she was just crazy. Either way Miss Emily had an issue of clinginess. For three days after
her father s death, she refused to believe that he was gone. She also kept Homers body for ten years,
maybe because she was upset that her father was taken away. Although Emily s father rejected any
man that she brought over, perhaps keeping Homer was a way to get what she always wanted, a man
in her life. The reasons behind Emily s psychological behaviors vary. Although Miss Emily was
already crazy, isolating herself was the true cause of her destruction and sick

The Theory Of General Strain Theory Essay
Introduction
In the 1980 s, Criminologist, Robert Agnew, presented his theory of general strain, in which he covers
a range of negative behaviors, especially how adolescents deal with stresses of strain. General strain
theory focuses on the source, such as anything that changes in the individual s life that causes strain.
His theory provides a different outlook on social control and social learning theory for two reasons:
the type of social relationship that leads to delinquency and the motivation for the delinquency
(Agnew, 1992). He states that certain strains and stresses increase the likelihood for crime such as
economic deprivation, child abuse, and discrimination. These factors can cause an increase of crime
through a range of negative emotions. For some people it can take a lot of willpower to take a
corrective action and try to deter away from committing crime in a way that they can relieve these
negative emotions. When people cannot cope with the stresses of the strain, they turn to crime as a
coping mechanism. Agnew also states, that not all people that experience the stresses of strain will go
forward to committing crime and live a deviant life.
Agnew assumes that all people of all social classes experience and deal with frustration when
experiencing a great amount of stress. The general strain theory bridges the gap between the poor and
the rich. The stresses of strain is a universal feeling that every individual experiences at some point in
time of their life.

Internal Controls And Internal Control
Contents Introduction 1 Analysis of the internal controls 1 Conclusion 4 Introduction Internal control
is the process designed, implemented and maintained by those charged with governance, management
and other personnel to provide reasonable assurance about the achievement of an entity s objectives
with regard to reliability of financial reporting, effectiveness and efficiency of operations, and
compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The term controls refers to any aspects of one or
more of the components of internal control. (Ifac, 2010, p. 264) ISA 315 requires the auditor to
identify and assess the risks of material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, at the financial
statement and assertion levels, through understanding the entity and its environment, including the
entity s internal control, thereby providing a basis for designing and implementing responses to the
assessed risks of material misstatement. (Ifac, 2010, p. 264) Analysis of the internal controls Internal

The reform of the British constitution remains unfinished...
In this essay, I would like to analyse why the reform of the British constitution is seen as unfinished
business. Constitutional reform is when the system of government and how government institutions
interact is changed. This has also meant the codification of some components of the constitution in the
UK. Between 1997 and 2007, there were a considerable number of constitutional reforms introduced
by the Blair governments. These reforms included devolution in Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland, decentralisation, reform of the House of Lords and Commons, creations of new legislation
granting greater freedom and rights within the UK, and so on. However, some of them are yet to be
accomplished or in progress related to the electoral and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until now, the content of the constitutional reform has not covered any electoral reform yet as the
constitution was prone to manipulation by single party governments.
The reform of the Human Rights Act can illustrate that the constitutional reform did not go far
enough. In 1998, the Blair government announced that the citizens rights would be safeguarded and
strengthened through incorporating the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law.
However, this created a problem as the UK now has two sets of rights those built up under Common
Law and those in the Human Rights Act. These two sets of rights may conflict and, in addition, cases
can be taken using these rights to both the UK Supreme Court and the European Court of Human
Rights (which is the supreme court for the European Convention on Human Rights). The UK judiciary
is divided on how to resolve this issue.
The centrepiece of Labour s programme of constitutional reform was undoubtedly devolution. This
was achieved with remarkably few problems. There now seems no likelihood that the new
arrangements could be reversed, even by a Conservative administration. The election on 6 May 1999
of a Parliament in Scotland, with extensive powers of primary legislation as well as tax raising, and an
Assembly in Wales, with powers of secondary legislation only, will have a profound impact on
governance within the UK. In

Reaction Paper On Quidditch
When on Reddit I used the sub section of Quidditch to access more information. One interviewee from
reddit said Communication between clubs is through public Facebook events and directed invitations,
public advertisement such as posters, word of mouth (messaged or spoken), and by messages (email,
FB, WhatsApp) between committees. Communication intra club is generally through the same means.
Communication from official bodies is through the same means, but using more advanced/expensive
means of public communication. Freelance events operate in a similar way to events hosted by local
teams in terms of communication and advertisement. Communication between teams is relatively the
same, it switches between phones and email. The teams also meet in person to discuss important
information. Many of these players use the game as an outlet from their daily life. It adds an element
of fun and excitement to anyone s normal life. Quidditch teams are not only found in universities.
There is a map found on the website that gives you the location of the team in America, the ones
connected to a school and also those who are not. Teams found outside of schools and universities are
organized differently. Official teams have a captain who, like the president, send out all the
information and run practices. Like many other sports the goal of the team is to win the game. But
during my interview I learned the players are more interested in the social aspect of the game. One of
the men I interviewed said the goal of the club was to improve our skills and have fun playing against
other teams. But, of course the players are hoping to win the game because many are involved for the
competition. In the movie the players are depicted wearing a cape, long pants and padding. The teams
in real life has a slightly different uniform. Because they are not flying the cape is not needed, and
padding is optional. Their uniforms are similar to that of a soccer uniform and usually has their name
and number located on the back. Sports are something normalized by American society. Boston

of communism. Instead, many U.S. soldiers lost their lives, but they managed to destroy a country s
economy, which was starting to show recovery from the French colonial control. Back in the late
1940s, American involvement in Vietnam was driven by the Cold War, in an effort to contain
communism, as expressed by the Domino Theory. America s military invasion into Vietnam came in
the 1960s, in an effort to protect the Southern region from the invasion of the communist North
authority. Nevertheless American troops were being overpowered by a peasant Vietnam army who had
the support of Communist China and Soviet Union. Modern Vietnam is still fighting ... Show more

According to a report in the Encyclopedia Britannica, engaging in Vietnam War made the US to spend
about $200 billion while 171,331 South Vietnamese soldiers died in combat between 1965 and 1972.
However, these figures are not exact, as little is known of the number of Vietnamese soldiers and
civilians who lost their lives during the war. By 1967, the number of casualties was 15,058 while 109,
527 had been wounded. The overall casualties among the US military officers were in excess of
55,000. The campaign had an influence on the presidential elections in 1968, where President Johnson
declared that he would not offer himself for reelection. Electorates had already begun to rally their
support behind anti war candidates. President Nixon managed to withdraw all the US soldiers from
Vietnam to avoid more criticism from the

What Are The Five Errors In Anaconda-A Flawed Joint Planning
What is the worst thing that a force can do before going into battle? The worst thing that a force
cannot do is have improper planning. In the article Anaconda A Flawed Joint Planning there was some
key steps that were missed in the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP). The article describes
five errors that the unit could have avoided by using MDMP. However I am only going to discuss four
out of the five errors and there are as follows: Poor Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield,
Underestimating Airpower Deployment Time, Lack of Tactical Coordination for Close Air Support
and the Lack of Operational and Strategic level Coordination. The first error that occurred was poor
intelligence preparation of the battlefield. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Staff book reviewing available assets and identify resources shortfalls is staffs determine if they have
the assets needed to accomplish all task . (Page 2 13 Battle Staff)The CJTF would have noticed that
the air assets were needed as well as the air planners. Once the air planners would have been involved
in the planning process, they could have rescheduled the date of the air tankers switching. The result
would have been less wounded causalities and certain terrorist leaders possibly killed. The third error
that happened was lack of tactical coordination for close air support. This error occurred because the
lack of air integration capability between ground and air forces. The CJTF did not even have some of
the proper equipment to call in close air support. According to the article an actual kill box was not
generated until four days into the battle. This error could have been avoided if the CJTF would have
complete step 3 of the MDMP process. Under step 3 it discusses generating options. Generating
options is a good Course of Action (COAs) can defeat all feasible enemy COAs while accounting for
essential stability tasks. Goal is to develop several possible COAs. (Battle Staff Page 2 13) The CTJF

Is Julius Caesar Arrogant Or Dangerous
The character Julius Caesar is presented as arrogant and dangerous in Act 1 of the play. Discuss.
Often called the great political thriller , the play Julius Caesar written by William Shakespeare
depicted the political world of ancient Rome. Throughout history, many historians and scholars have
argued upon whether Julius Caesar was a man of great military power and political influence or a man
trapped in his own personal weaknesses and complications. Of the many topics of debate, the
statement that Julius Caesar is presented as arrogant and dangerous in Act 1 of the play is not, in the
writer s opinion, a full perspective of him. Although he did illustrate signs of tyranny, Caesar would
often betray signs of weaknesses as well.
Shakespeare s Caesar dominated the play at the very beginning. Through the conversation of Flavius,
Murellus and certain commoners, the audience would quickly discover the fact that the citizens ...

The first act of the play have illuminated his nobility in many ways. Domestically, he was faithful to
his wife, Calpurnia, and respected her advices and opinions. Shakespeare highlighted the importance
of Calpurnia to Caesar by designating Caesar s first word in the play to be Calpurnia . Publically, he
displayed honour and modesty. When Caesar was offered the crown thrice by his fellow friend,
Antony, Caesar put it by thrice, every time gentler than other.
Julius Caesar was not a tyrant, not a Roman as brave and respected as other characters such as Brutus,
and certainly not entirely presented as dangerous and arrogant in Act 1 of the play. Instead he was a
mixture of many characteristics that would later be the cause of much debate among historians and
Shakespearian scholars. It was the many aspects, noble and cowardly, of the character of Julius Caesar
that Shakespeare manipulated upon to create a play that still satisfies the minds of readers who study it

Phonics Vs. Phonics And Synthetic Phonics Essay
Phonics are essential to literacy and children s ability to learn to read and write. Phonics are a system
of associating letter symbols with speech sounds (Orton, n.d.). They have an important role in the
Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority: phonics and word knowledge [ACARA]. There are
two main concepts related to phonics they are analytical phonics and synthetic phonics. Diana Rigg
(2016) states that direct systematic instruction in phonics during the early years of schooling is an
essential foundation for teaching children to read (para. 3). Phonics are used by children to learn to
read and to write, they include letter identification, onset and rime, blends and the relationships
between blends and phonemic awareness (Hill, 2012, p.259) (Rigg, 2014). There are many teaching
approaches that may be implemented to teach phonics effectively. This essay will discuss, critique and
analyse phonics their importance and how different teaching approaches may be implemented to teach
phonics to students effectively. It will maintain that synthetic phonics have been proven to be more
successful in teaching children than analytical phonics, although it is imperative to use both a
synthetic and analytical approach to teaching children phonics.
There are many aspects involved in phonics, phonics can be either analytical or synthetic. According
to Anne Bayetto (2013) the National Reading Panel highly recommends phonics along with phonemic
awareness, fluency, vocabulary and

He noodled and said, And hungry, too. Me, too. Are we gonna die? Five year olds can be quite dark.
Dunno. Before we could sink into a morbid and delicious exploration of our fate, a shiny new 1954
Mercury with a powder blue body, a black top and whitewall tires, came around the corner. It was our
neighbor, Mr. Swift. Oh, no! What s he doing here? I thought. I was many blocks farther from home
than I was supposed to be and had imagined our salvation would arrive in the form of a stranger. Mr.
Swift stopped and got out of his car to size up the situation. He didn t look happy. What are you two
doing out there? he asked. His voice rose to both reach our distant location and convey his poorly
hidden irritation. Yup, just as I thought, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Effect Of Temperature On Reaction Rate
The purpose of this lab is to explore the effects of enzyme concentration, substrate concentration,
temperature, and inhibitors on reaction rate, respectively. To test each of these factors, four activities
were completed. The enzyme from Turnip Extract and the substrate Peroxide were tested. The turnip
extract was tested at the following concentrations: .5ml, 1.0ml, and 2.0ml. Peroxide was tested at the
following concentrations: 0.1ml, 0.2ml, and 0.4ml. In order to understand the effect of temperature on
reaction rate the following temperatures were tested: 4C, 23C, 37C, and 60C. To achieve the desired
temperatures, an ice bath and water baths were utilized. Lastly, the effect of the inhibitor
Hydroxylamine was tested in the following amounts: 0 drops, 1 drop, and 5 drops. In the experiment,
Guaiacol was used to determine the rate of reaction by the absorbance measured. When Guaiacol is
oxidized it has a brownish color, the presence of the brownish color indicates Peroxide (substrate of
peroxidase) has undergone the reaction and has been reduced to water. By this, the reaction rate can be
determined by the color change or absorbance over time. For each activity, a spectrophotometer was
used to measure the absorbance. After that, the data for each activity was translated to graph where
linear regression was used to analyze the effects. The results of the enzyme concentrations on reaction
rate are the following: low enzyme concentration (0.5 ml) had a reaction rate of

Macbeth Movie And Play Comparison
Macbeth movie and play comparison paragraph Tragedy is a strong and contradicting event that leaves
the victims with catharsis and pity. The audience experiences sympathy towards the culprit because of
their reasons into why they fell into the darkness. These same emotions are felt when contrasting the
behaviour of Macbeth from the movie and the play. In the movie, Macbeth, by Rupert Goold, the
audience is mesmerized to feel less affinity towards Macbeth in contrast to the play because of the
differences in the plot, how the characters are developed, and the motifs in this militaristic film(This
last point is too specific).
To start off, the audience feels less sympathy towards Macbeth in the movie because of the main
events being distinctive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few snippets that are different from the play but also have a large impact on the plot. This
is indicated in the movie when Lady Macbeth and Macbeth have a personal conversation in the
change room. Macbeth says, Be innocent of the knowledge dearest chuck, And with thy bloody and
invisible hand, cancel and tear to pieces great bond.....but hold thee still; So prithee, go with me (III.
Ii. 50 60). With these words, in the movie, he speaks in a frustrated manner, as if he is forcing Lady
Macbeth to follow his path into darkness by tenaciously grasping her hand. This creates less sympathy
for Macbeth. Another significant difference in the movie was when Lady Macduff and her sons and
daughters get assaulted by the murders. Macbeth is also present in that scene and he himself finishes
the cruel act as he reveals his dagger from his belt. Nevertheless, in the play, Macbeth remains in his
castle and calls upon the murderers to finish his dirty work. Therefore, these small differences in the
plot including Macbeth s strange behaviour shown in the movie are far more brutal and he is shown
less compassionate towards the

The Argument For The Elimination Of Television
Approximately twenty five billion dollars is spent on advertising a year, a number far greater than the
amount spent on education nationally. Why so much money? Jerry Mander in his book Four
Arguments for the Elimination of Television, lays out the numerous problems that exist with
television, a problem that cannot necessarily be improved. In essence, technology is not a tool that is
neutral. Mander describes that in different institutions and technologies, such as advertising, mass
production, militaries, the basic structure of particular technology or institution establishes its
influence on the world, the types of individuals that will make use of it, and how people will use it.
Television is a tool that established the kinds of effects it will have on peoples lives, how people will
use it, and who will use it, and if such technology continues to be used, the kinds of effects and
political forms that will result from it. Mander develops four arguments throughout his book. The first
argument Mander describes is that television conditions people to accept another person s authority.
He begins by explaining that although television might be interesting and useful it packs people into a
mental as well as a physical condition suitable for the appearance of autocratic control. Artificial
environments, therefore, strip individuals of obtaining direct knowledge of nature. He follows his
second argument by stating that technological advances are controlled by the powers that

In order to advance the vital interests of the United States, we need a military that is equipped with best of everything and the backing of a nation to use them to defend our national interests and goals when needed. 2. The National Defense Strategy (NDS) counterbalances the Defense Departments tendency to focus on winning conventional conflicts rather than irregular wars by empowering those small nations to improve the security of their countries to prevent conflicts from happening. The NDS focuses on the different irregular warfare tactics that can be used by our enemies in the strategic environment. It gives us guidance on what we need to do to prevent the use of these irregular warfare tactics. It was not until the last decade that the U.S. military started fighting the irregular wars; our Special Forces units were the ones that were fighting the unconventional wars. The U.S. military has had a difficult time changing its focus on fighting conventional wars to fighting irregular wars. During the Vietnam War, the U.S. military became very experienced in guerrilla warfare tactics. However, when that war ended the focus shifted back to fighting the conventional wars and that experience was lost. Now, because of the lack of experience, the U.S. military is having a difficult time fighting the unconventional wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The 2008 NDS attempts to counterbalance the focus on conventional wars by emphasizing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Athletes During The Winter Olympics The 2010 Winter Olympic Games are rapidly approaching with athletes from all around the world getting ready to compete for the gold medal. The winter Olympics are considerably smaller than the summer Olympics as there are less options for winter sports played as during the summer ones. There are also fewer countries and athletes competing as some countries don t have these sports or the winter climate or terrain to sustain a winter sport. This does not always prevent athletes from competing, however, as proven by the Jamaican bobsledding team years ago. They took strong runners and athletes from Jamaica and taught them the basics of the bobsled using a wooden sled on wheels. Their initial particpation into the Olympics was a big crowd pleaser. It was Nightingale s approaches to nursing that produced amazing results. Florence Nightingale was responsible for crucial changes in hospital protocol, a new view on the capabilities and potential of women, and the creation of a model of standards that all future nurses could aspire towards. The results that Nightingale achieved using her methods caused her to receive great status from the British press, who referred to her as The Lady of The Lamp because of her late night rounds to check on the soldiers in her care. Her praise enabled her to establish a nursing school which taught the procedures and ethics that she had created, bringing about a new line of nurses which possessed a superior knowledge of medicine and hospital maintenance. Thus, the teachings of Florence Nightingale were spread to the next generation of nurses, and to all of the generations to come. Florence Nightingale changed the public s views of a woman s potential and capabilities in her era. Victorian women of her age group did not attend universities or pursue professional careers . The success of the Scutari post was amazing, and the fact that a woman achieved these feats was even more astounding to her peers. Nightingale was the first woman to be given the British Order of Merit, in 1907 for her work . From Nightingale s example, it could be seen that a woman achieving spectacular results was indeed possible, and the inferiority of the female gender was now in question. Florence Nightingale became a role model for other nurses around her. Linda Richards, who visited Ms. Nightingale at her home in England in 1877, said, The one dream of my nursing years was being fulfilled: I was indeed talking with the one woman whose name and the record of whose good ... • 9. Why Cosmetic Surgery Improves Mental Health Alecia Colvin A main motivator for getting cosmetic surgery is the desire of being more satisfied with one s own appearance and improving self esteem. However, research has shown that this is not always the case. There have been variable results showing whether cosmetic surgery will improve psychological variables such as body image, self esteem, and mental health. Body image specifically has been suggested to be a crucial factor in the desire to undergo cosmetic surgery. This is based off two important components including body image evaluation, referring to how satisfied a person is with his or her own body, and body image orientation, indicating how important body image is for a person. A person with a low body image evaluation combined with a high body image orientation increases the likelihood of a person wanting plastic surgery. Mental health aspects have also been addressed in research literature. The general question here is whether cosmetic surgery improves mental health despite previous psychological state. Studies done in the past have shown variable results. Several studies done have mainly looked at breast reduction. Only a few studies have examined postoperative changes in other cosmetic surgery procedures or have looked a several surgery types. There has been evidence suggesting that body image evaluation improves after breast reduction and augmentation surgery. In another study, results showed no significant improvement with cosmetic surgery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Rose For Emily Isolation A Rose for Emily is a short story written by William Faulkner. The story follows a southern town after the civil war and with the death of Miss Emily. As the town gossips about the mysterious house that no one has been inside for the past ten years, the secrets that Miss Emily had been hiding in the house is also discussed. The story then picks up before Emily s death when her father dies. After being in denial that her father is gone, she meets a man, Homer, and begins dating him. Shortly after, Emily buys an arsenic and invites Homer to her house, even though he is not the marrying type. The town never see s Homer after that night and rarely sees Emily. A smell starts to arise from the house and her taxes pile up. Ten years later, Miss Emily dies and the town finally goes inside. What they find is a man s skeleton on a dusty bed and, next to it, a strand of gray hair. Faulkner s story demonstrates to readers how isolation and living the past can ... Faulkner pays close attention to the dying south and uses specific elements, like the old southern house, to symbolize living in the past. Either way Miss Emily had an issue of clinginess. For three days after her father s death, she refused to believe that he was gone. She also kept Homers body for ten years, maybe because she was upset that her father was taken away. • 14. The Theory Of General Strain Theory Essay Introduction In the 1980 s, Criminologist, Robert Agnew, presented his theory of general strain, in which he covers a range of negative behaviors, especially how adolescents deal with stresses of strain. General strain theory focuses on the source, such as anything that changes in the individual s life that causes strain. His theory provides a different outlook on social control and social learning theory for two reasons: the type of social relationship that leads to delinquency and the motivation for the delinquency (Agnew, 1992). He states that certain strains and stresses increase the likelihood for crime such as economic deprivation, child abuse, and discrimination. These factors can cause an increase of crime through a range of negative emotions. For some people it can take a lot of willpower to take a corrective action and try to deter away from committing crime in a way that they can relieve these negative emotions. When people cannot cope with the stresses of the strain, they turn to crime as a coping mechanism. Agnew also states, that not all people that experience the stresses of strain will go forward to committing crime and live a deviant life. Agnew assumes that all people of all social classes experience and deal with frustration when experiencing a great amount of stress. The general strain theory bridges the gap between the poor and the rich. The stresses of strain is a universal feeling that every individual experiences at some point in time of their life. ... Internal Controls And Internal Control Contents Introduction 1 Analysis of the internal controls 1 Conclusion 4 Introduction Internal control is the process designed, implemented and maintained by those charged with governance, management and other personnel to provide reasonable assurance about the achievement of an entity s objectives with regard to reliability of financial reporting, effectiveness and efficiency of operations, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The term controls refers to any aspects of one or more of the components of internal control. (Ifac, 2010, p. 264) ISA 315 requires the auditor to identify and assess the risks of material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, at the financial statement and assertion levels, through understanding the entity and its environment, including the entity s internal control, thereby providing a basis for designing and implementing responses to the assessed risks of material misstatement. • 17. The reform of the British constitution remains unfinished... In this essay, I would like to analyse why the reform of the British constitution is seen as unfinished business. Constitutional reform is when the system of government and how government institutions interact is changed. This has also meant the codification of some components of the constitution in the UK. Between 1997 and 2007, there were a considerable number of constitutional reforms introduced by the Blair governments. These reforms included devolution in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, decentralisation, reform of the House of Lords and Commons, creations of new legislation granting greater freedom and rights within the UK, and so on. However, some of them are yet to be accomplished or in progress related to the electoral and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until now, the content of the constitutional reform has not covered any electoral reform yet as the constitution was prone to manipulation by single party governments. The reform of the Human Rights Act can illustrate that the constitutional reform did not go far enough. In 1998, the Blair government announced that the citizens rights would be safeguarded and strengthened through incorporating the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law. However, this created a problem as the UK now has two sets of rights those built up under Common Law and those in the Human Rights Act. These two sets of rights may conflict and, in addition, cases can be taken using these rights to both the UK Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights (which is the supreme court for the European Convention on Human Rights). The UK judiciary is divided on how to resolve this issue. The centrepiece of Labour s programme of constitutional reform was undoubtedly devolution. This was achieved with remarkably few problems. There now seems no likelihood that the new arrangements could be reversed, even by a Conservative administration. The election on 6 May 1999 of a Parliament in Scotland, with extensive powers of primary legislation as well as tax raising, and an Assembly in Wales, with powers of secondary legislation only, will have a profound impact on governance within the UK. One interviewee from reddit said Communication between clubs is through public Facebook events and directed invitations, public advertisement such as posters, word of mouth (messaged or spoken), and by messages (email, FB, WhatsApp) between committees. Communication intra club is generally through the same means. Communication from official bodies is through the same means, but using more advanced/expensive means of public communication. Freelance events operate in a similar way to events hosted by local teams in terms of communication and advertisement. Communication between teams is relatively the same, it switches between phones and email. The teams also meet in person to discuss important information. Many of these players use the game as an outlet from their daily life. It adds an element of fun and excitement to anyone s normal life. Quidditch teams are not only found in universities. There is a map found on the website that gives you the location of the team in America, the ones connected to a school and also those who are not. Teams found outside of schools and universities are organized differently. Official teams have a captain who, like the president, send out all the information and run practices. Like many other sports the goal of the team is to win the game. But during my interview I learned the players are more interested in the social aspect of the game. One of the men I interviewed said the goal of the club was to improve our skills and have fun playing against other teams. But, of course the players are hoping to win the game because many are involved for the competition. In the movie the players are depicted wearing a cape, long pants and padding. The teams in real life has a slightly different uniform. Because they are not flying the cape is not needed, and padding is optional. Their uniforms are similar to that of a soccer uniform and usually has their name and number located on the back. Sports are something normalized by American society. Phonics are a system of associating letter symbols with speech sounds (Orton, n.d.). They have an important role in the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority: phonics and word knowledge [ACARA]. There are two main concepts related to phonics they are analytical phonics and synthetic phonics. Diana Rigg (2016) states that direct systematic instruction in phonics during the early years of schooling is an essential foundation for teaching children to read (para. 3). Phonics are used by children to learn to read and to write, they include letter identification, onset and rime, blends and the relationships between blends and phonemic awareness (Hill, 2012, p.259) (Rigg, 2014). There are many teaching approaches that may be implemented to teach phonics effectively. What Is The Effect Of Temperature On Reaction Rate The purpose of this lab is to explore the effects of enzyme concentration, substrate concentration, temperature, and inhibitors on reaction rate, respectively. To test each of these factors, four activities were completed. The enzyme from Turnip Extract and the substrate Peroxide were tested. The turnip extract was tested at the following concentrations: .5ml, 1.0ml, and 2.0ml. Peroxide was tested at the following concentrations: 0.1ml, 0.2ml, and 0.4ml. In order to understand the effect of temperature on reaction rate the following temperatures were tested: 4C, 23C, 37C, and 60C. To achieve the desired temperatures, an ice bath and water baths were utilized. Lastly, the effect of the inhibitor Hydroxylamine was tested in the following amounts: 0 drops, 1 drop, and 5 drops. In the experiment, Guaiacol was used to determine the rate of reaction by the absorbance measured. When Guaiacol is oxidized it has a brownish color, the presence of the brownish color indicates Peroxide (substrate of peroxidase) has undergone the reaction and has been reduced to water. By this, the reaction rate can be determined by the color change or absorbance over time. For each activity, a spectrophotometer was used to measure the absorbance. Why so much money? Jerry Mander in his book Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television, lays out the numerous problems that exist with television, a problem that cannot necessarily be improved. In essence, technology is not a tool that is neutral. Mander describes that in different institutions and technologies, such as advertising, mass production, militaries, the basic structure of particular technology or institution establishes its influence on the world, the types of individuals that will make use of it, and how people will use it. Television is a tool that established the kinds of effects it will have on peoples lives, how people will use it, and who will use it, and if such technology continues to be used, the kinds of effects and political forms that will result from it. Mander develops four arguments throughout his book. The first argument Mander describes is that television conditions people to accept another person s authority. He begins by explaining that although television might be interesting and useful it packs people into a mental as well as a physical condition suitable for the appearance of autocratic control. Artificial environments, therefore, strip individuals of obtaining direct knowledge of nature.
