Gopher Tortoise Hypothesis
Background/Introduction: The gopher tortoise plays a crucial role in many ecosystems across the
United States including places such as Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Georgia, and
Louisiana. Gopher tortoises get their name from the burrows they dig, similar to gophers, that assist
in many processes in the tortoise's ecosystem. When digging these burrows, tortoises are returning
leached nutrients back to the surface. Also, because these animals graze on vegetation, they become
important components in the spreading of seeds of different plants many animals feed on. Gopher
tortoises also tend to move from burrow to burrow rather quickly, leaving them vacant, providing
other animals homes. These animals include those such as foxes, gopher ... Show more content on

to 3p.m. This makes logical sense because this is the time of day where the tortoises would have the
most energy. As presented above, it is clearly shown that a tremendously less amount of tortoises
were found mating during the times of 6a.m. to 10a.m. and 4a.m. to 6p.m. This is most likely
because this is when the sun starts do rise or go down, meaning there is less sunlight and therefore
less energy for the tortoises. Discussion: The data collected in this experiment did support my
hypothesis, as discussed in the results. I believe this evidence is also enough to be able to support
my prediction, but may need more trials and experiments done by others to further prove and
support it. Similar experiments seemed to show the same results. For example, an experiment
discussed in the Introduction talked about the decrease in the abundance of tortoise burrows which
led to the decline of mating and therefore also a decrease in the amount of tortoises in the area.
Studies like that one could definitely be supported by the findings from this

Count Deer Research Paper
There are many methods used to count deer. The capture – recapture method is the most used
because it is more accurate than methods that rely on the human senses to count and estimate a
population. Visual and auditory counts of animals often contain error, prompting wildlife managers
use signs from animals to determine an estimated population size. Using an index population, which
shows trends within the population rather than actual number, wildlife managers can determine the
relative size of a population. For example, a wildlife manager can count the fecal pellets in a certain
area where an animal population is inhabiting. To start the process, all of the old fecal pellets must
be removed from the area. After a predetermined interval,

Gopher Tortoise Research Paper
There are four species of tortoise that are located on the North America continent only the gopher
tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) can be found in the southeastern portion of the United States. The
gopher tortoise reside only from the south end of South Carolina to the eastern side of Louisiana
(McCoy et al, 1993). They are federally protect because they are on the brink of extinction. A
collaborate piece published by the University of Notre Dame found, in the past decade about 80% of
the gopher tortoise has cease to exist starting form urbanization to natural disasters (as cite in
Hermann et al., 2002). In the Florida Atlantic University's preserve the gopher tortoise's eggs are
eaten by coyotes, snakes, cats, and some other carnivorous animals. Gopher tortoise can live as long
as 60 years. They are ectothermic so they favor places with direct sunlight. Joan E. Diemer agrees
that the gopher tortoise most optimal habitat would consist of loose soil for digging burrows,
vegetation for food, and plenty of sunlight (as cited in Auffenberg and Franz, 1982; Hallinan, 1923;
Landers, 1980). Besides, being ectothermic their diet consist of mainly grass (herbivores). The
gopher tortoise is important because like gopher they dig burrows. ... Show more content on

On the ocean floor of tropical waters around Asia, Africa, and Australia, you may see a diverse array
of ocean plants, but not all are what they seem. Some of these plants aren't plants at all, they're
actually small tube–like creatures called Garden Eels. These eels bob up and down in their burrows,
and together as a colony to look like sea grass swaying in the warm currents of the Indo–Pacific
region. Identification Looking like a straw these eels can grow up to 30 centimeters long, but are on
average 8–15 (cm) even though you will never see more than a quarter of their body. Ranging from
a deep yellow to gray and spotted, Garden eels have a very high vertebral count from 186–206
which makes them vertebrates. Garden eels are one of few

times, she simply had a lot going on outside of her teaching life. Her husband had cancer, she had
small children, and she would get sick a lot. Honestly, if you did not know her you would not
assume these things. Mrs. Burrows always kept her head high and she was a great teacher. She was

The desert tortoise is widely spread across the Mojave desert and Sonoran desert of the
southwestern United States and the northwestern part of Mexico, especially the Sinaloan thornscrub,
western Arizona, southeastern California, southern Nevada and southwestern Utah. Desert tortoise
inhabits areas covered with creosote bushes, rocky canyons, semi–arid grasslands and hillsides. It
usually lives on the altitude of 1000 to 3000 feet, but it can survive even on the elevation of 5000
feet. Some even live in Death Valley. No other type of tortoise faces the same kind of extreme
conditions due to habitat that the desert tortoise does. The extremely high and low temperatures
force the desert tortoise to adapt. To survive in the harsh desert climate, the tortoise estivates
(remains underground in its burrow) during the hottest times of the day in the summer and
hibernates (sleeps underground in its burrow) through the winter. Tortoises come out in the spring to
eat grasses and wildflowers and drink water from the spring rains. They store water within
themselves and use it through the dry months while water is not available. In the spring, they

Black Tailed Prairie Dogs
This profile is on the black–tailed prairie dog. It will be introducing their background, life cycle,
structure and function, evolution and an additional interest. It will also be going over their unique
social structure and the way they form communities called prairie towns, which are a large system of
burrows. The importance of burrows, in particular, to the black–tailed prairie dog cannot be
overstated.
Black–Tailed Prairie Dogs
The black–tailed prairie dog's scientific name is Cynomys ludovicianus that, colorfully, means "dog
mouse of Louisiana." It lives in North America in the Great Plains region of the United States. Its
territory stretches all the way to the borders of Canada and Mexico, but not to the coasts. The black–
tailed prairie dog is the most common and prolific of all prairie dogs, and has the largest territory.
Prairie dog towns, a system of burrows that are close together and can span miles, are subdivided
into wards, coteries, and individuals on a downward sliding scale depending on population size.
Life Cycle
Mating
The breeding season of black–tailed prairie dogs varies depending on the temperature of their locale.
In warmer climates, breeding season may begin in what is still technically the winter. In colder
climates, the breeding season may not come until March. The breeding season is a once a year event
that starts when "the lengthening hours of daylight after the winter solstice trigger onset of estrus"
(Graves, 2001). Males of the

North American Tortoise Species
NTRODUCTION
Distribution of the four extant North American tortoise species have allopatric ranges which occur in
three distinctive regions (Figure 1) (Bury and Germano, 1994). The extant gopher tortoise
(Gopherus polyphemus) (Figure 2) species is a terrestrial reptile native to the southeastern United
States and is recognized as an endangered species. Their burrows provide shelter for more than 350
other animal groups designating them as a keystone species of longleaf pine forests (Natural
Resources Conservation Service, 2017).
Paleontological evidence was compiled to differentiate between extant species to generalize the
lineage of testudinid turtles. Lamb and Lydeard (1994) describes the study of molecular phylogeny
within the testudinoidea lineage by obtaining blood and muscles samples to isolate genomic DNA
and compare mtDNA sequence variation. The above mentioned scientists examined distinct
assemblages of the four extant gopher tortoise species: Bolson tortoise (Gopherus flavomarginatus),

Olfaction Use in Avian Species Essay
Olfaction use in avian species
Odors are broadly used for individual, sexual and species recognition in vertebrates and may be
reliable signals of quality and compatibility when selecting mates. Yet, chemical signals in birds
have rarely been investigated. In fact, birds exhibit a wide array of communication mechanisms,
such as colors and songs, but rarely display obvious olfactory–driven behaviors. This discrepancy
seen in the amount of information regarding olfactory use is due to the belief that birds do not have
a well developed olfactory system compared to other animals. Because they do not have a well
developed olfactory system, other perceptual cues, such as sight and audition, are seen as better
predictors of behavior. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, as they approach their nests, burrow nesters avoid making calls or songs; they do not
to bring attention to themselves so predators do not locate their nests. Having to locate their nests in
the dark, burrow nesters cannot efficiently use visual cues to locate their nests. Moreover, because
they avoid making calls and songs, they are unable to use auditory based cues to locate their nests
either. In these cases, other forms of communication is needed. Mardon and Bonadonna (2009)
assert that olfactory cues are a reliable method of locating their nests in the absence of visual and
auditory cues. Specifically, the characteristic smell of the burrow will help them locate it when
returning. To test this hypothesis, Mardon and Bonadonna (2009) used a Y–maze experiment to
identify the olfactory preferences of petrels, birds known to use burrow nests. In Y maze
experiments, one specific odor is placed at each end of the top side, and the bird is placed at the
bottom side. The bird is believed to move toward the end that it prefers. In their experiment using
storm petrels, recognized and prefered their own scent compared to conspecifics. Further
investigation with petrels found that when placed in the Y–maze they prefer the scent of their mate
to the odor of another conspecific (Mardon & Bonadonna, 2009). Their studies show that a personal
scent exists for avian species, and that they have a preference for their own and

An Infectious Disease : Scabies
An Infectious Disease: Scabies
Introduction
Scabies are a well –known infection that results in a particularly relentless and devastating itch that
starts out slowly and increases in severity overtime. The mites that cause the condition scientifically
known as Sarcoptes scabiei (Stoppler, 2010). An eight–legged microscopic mite burrows into the
skin of an infected humans. Per Smith (2016) scabies is a dermatological condition, which are
estimated to infect over 300 million humans worldwide each year, including 1 million people in the
United States. Scabies is highly contagious, being easily spread through close physical contact such
as skin to skin and by sharing bedding, furniture, and clothing. Scabies most frequently occurs in
children and young adults, with outbreaks in child care facilities and school commons. Scabies
affects people of all races, income, social class and social living. The New England Journal of
Medicine states that mites cannot fly or jump but can crawl at the rate of 2.5 cm per minutes on
warm skin. The mites can survive for 24–36 hours at room temperature and at average humidity, and
remains capable of infestation and epidermal burrowing. The most parasites on a person, the greater
the likelihood of transmission.
Causes
Humans are not the only species affected by mites; dogs and cats can also be infected. However,
each species hosts a different species of mites, and while human may experience a mild, transient

The goliath bird eating spider is the heaviest of all spiders in the word weighing almost half a
pound! It is also arguably the largest spider competing with the giant huntsman spider. They both

covered by reddish hairs giving the spider a golden blond appearance. The coloration of this spider
gives it its species name "blondi" which is the Latin word for blond, or golden. The goliath bird–
eating spider is found in rainforests from southern Venezuela east to Guyana, Suriname, French

How Does Temperature Effect Earthworms?
Introduction
When one thinks of earthworms usually one thinks about slimy and nasty creatures that are only
used for fishing. Wrong! If there were no worms on earth, farms and many plants could not be
properly maintained. This paper will explain how important earthworms are to the earth and to our
environment. In addition, this paper will cover the origin of an earthworm, the anatomy and other
important characteristics. Origin The origin of earthworms were said to be on earth around 200
millions ago. Their ancestors were marine worms, existing before there was even soil on this planet
and vegetation. These worms underwent a slow process of adapting themselves to a new ... Show

Earthworms slowly bring soil to the surface and cover objects on the ground. This is one reason why
archaeologists have to dig down underneath the ground to find fossils. Night crawlers burrows can
go as far as 15 feet underground. Night crawlers have something that no other animal has. They
have five pairs of hearts. The hearts pump blood with the earthworm's muscular contractions. Only
two main blood vessels make up the earthworms body. The ventral blood vessel sends blood to the
rear end of the worm. The dorsal vessels pumps blood to the front end of the body and blood travels
through the ventral vessels into the capillaries on the body wall and the many other organs. Anatomy
The body of the earthworms is considered slimy and weird. Earthworm's body contains 80% water
and 70% protein. Fat makes up anywhere from 1 to 17 percent. The body divided into 100 segments.
These segments contain a pair of metanephridia, which drain the adjacent anterior segments. The
bristles help the earthworm hold its ground when trying to be pulled from its burrow. For instance, a
bird pulls off 6 to 7 segments; therefore new segments will grow back. Earthworms are
invertebrates, which mean they have no backbone. The mucus on the body helps the worm travel
through their burrow smoothly. As the earthworm travels underground the mucus holds the dirt from
collapsing on the worm.

Grow Temperature Research Paper
Discussion
This study depicted that common wombat burrows provide a constant temperature 1–2m from the
entrance within four different habitats – open field, forested, short ground cover and sandy bank –
during both summer and autumn. However, noticeable differences in the temperatures between the
seasons were observed. Although, this was expected as the insulating properties of the soil stop
daily, but not seasonal, fluctuations in temperature from a depth of approximately 0.30cm
(Reichman & Smith 1990), with the main factors that did influence burrow temperatures being time
of day, elevation during summer and aspect during autumn. There are few studies in the literature
that display the influences of elevation and aspect on burrow temperatures so these may present
novel findings that might impact burrow location or use. The general outcome that burrow
temperatures remain constant while temperatures outside the burrow fluctuate, however, is
supported in many studies of different species. Shimmin et al ... Show more content on

These stable temperatures within the burrow coincide with many previous studies conducted on
other burrowing animals, with all studies agreeing that the temperatures are constant daily but have
a gradual seasonal change. This presents strong evidence that burrows maintain a consistent
microhabitat that is effective in providing shelter from weather extremes, thereby allowing burrows
to be regarded as an appropriate mechanism of thermal tolerance. The influence temperature has on
wombat behaviour cannot be fully addressed due to the declining wombat population at the study
site, however, it may be attributed to the small ambient temperature ranges that were experienced
not having a significant impact on wombat presence in this

Analysis Of Macaques
Micheletta, Whitehouse, Parr, and Waller (2015) tested three crested macaques (Macaca nigra) using
matching–to–sample tasks. The researchers' goal was to determine whether these crested macaques
were capable of discriminating between facial expressions and whether visual stimuli affected
performance. There were two separate experiments in which the crested macaques were to match a
photograph of a specific facial expression to an exemplar while other examples of different
expressions and neutral faces were shown. Then they were to match a video of an expression to a
photograph of the exemplar while other examples were shown (Micheletta et al., 2015). These

Results showed an unusually high accuracy for emotional expression discrimination, with an 80%
success rate (Calcutt et al., 2017). Such a high rate shows that facial expression discrimination is an
important survival tool for these monkeys. Agnostic/negative expressions were easier for monkeys
to tell apart than affiliative/friendly ones (Calcutt et al., 2017). From this we can infer that detection
of unfriendly expressions has been especially important evolutionarily for tufted capuchin monkeys.
Overall, the monkeys best at detecting facial expressions have been, and will continue to be, the
most equipped and ideal for passing their genes on to future generations. Ways in which gibbons
(Hylobatidae), a small ape species, altered their use of facial expressions in relation to the recipient's
behavior was explored in a different study by Scheider, Waller, Ona, Burrows, and Liebal (2016).
More specifically, the researchers investigated how attention state of the receiver influenced the
expression produced, as well as whether recipients would respond by using a facial expression
(Scheider et al., 2016). Mated pairs of five different gibbon species were observed and researchers
used GibbonFACS to code and define facial expressions. 45 different expressions were discovered,

Reverend Hedge, the vicar of the local church meets the Were–Rabbit after the failure of the Mind
Manipulation O'Matic. Reverend Hedge was astounded by the sudden appearance of the hideous
creature when he was storing his vegetables in the emptied church. This scene is an imperative part
of the film because it had caused a climate of fear towards the people in the town, it's also the first
time someone is being attacked by the Were–Rabbit. This scene intends to pave a pathway for the
revelation of the Were–Rabbit's real identity. Reverend Hedge prayed for his vegetable would grow

An overhead shot was introduced to show that the church is emptied, darkened and it also reflects a
sense of loneliness. It shows that he's vulnerable so if "something" comes, he would be in danger. As
the candle was blown out, a pan was used to show Reverend Hedge's confusion through his facial
expression and the dark background in his back also emphasised this idea. A long shot was used to
show the door was opened and closed suddenly in the perspective of Reverend Hedge, this
contributed the horror to the movie. Humour was once again appeared as the Were–Rabbit burped
and Reverend Hedge thought it was Mrs. Hedge. This reduces the apprehension and contributes to
the comedy in the film. The Were–Rabbit was charging towards Reverend Hedge triumphantly like a
soldier. A point of view shot was used as the Were–Rabbit hides behinds the seats, it emphasised the
purpose of this scene to the audience that something is behind there. The music, at first slow became
more dramatic as the Were–Rabbit is coming towards Reverend Hedge. A genre of horror was
shown as we could see Reverend Hedge gasping in shock. A high angle appeared as the Were–
Rabbit approaches Reverend Hedge more closer. This shot is being used to show that Were–Rabbit
is gigantic and it makes Reverend Hedge seems to be very small which gives the viewer a kind of
feeling that the Were–Rabbit is indeed, bloodcurdling.

Organization One: IU Yoga and Pilates
1. Which organization did you choose? Why did choose this organization?
The first organization I choose to research is IU Yoga and Pilates. I choose this organization to
research because I am very interested to participate in Yoga and Pilates here at Indiana University. I
have danced competively for the vast majority of my life. We were required to take varies dance
classes were we did an abundance of Yoga and Pilates in many of my ballet classes to improve many
dance skills. Yoga was very relaxing and also was a great workout for your entire body. Pilates
helped build a stronger core. In college I have not taken advantage of the opportunity to continue
practicing Yoga and Pilates like I did when I was dancing more frequently. I hope through my
research I will attend yoga and Pilates classes that are offered here at Indiana University.

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Partnership in Business
Introduction In this text, I identify the various advantages and disadvantages of a partnership as a
form of ownership. Further, I highlight the main funding options for a small business and determine
how management accounting can be of use to business executives especially in the areas of
budgeting, incremental analysis and product costing. Lastly, in addition to identifying the basic
components of the marketing process, I also discuss the role technology and social responsibility
play in the marketing function. Partnership as a Form of Ownership: Pros and Cons A partnership
according to Burrow and Bosijevac (2011) "is a business that is owned and operated by two or more
people who share in the decision making and profitability of the company." There are several pros
and cons of this form of business ownership. To begin with, one of the pros of this form of
ownership according to Burrow and Bosijevac (2011) has got to do with the pooling of both the
skills and knowledge of partners. By bringing together their diverse skills, partners in this case
enhance the success of the enterprise. Secondly, a partnership may be able to access more funding
than a sole proprietorship. This is more so the case given that in addition to the ability of partners to
pool resources, banks are more likely to advance loans to businesses that have more people
responsible for the repayment of the same (Burrow and Bosijevac 2011). Lastly, a partnership form
of business may continue operating

Small Group Communication In Prison Break
Wither if someone is a child, student or an adult they have been put into small groups at one point in
their lives. For most students, like myself, it is for group projects or classroom activities. DeVito
defines a small group as," a collection of individuals who are connected to one another by some
common purpose, are interdependent, have some degree of organization among them, and see
themselves as a group (pg. 211)." Being a part of a small group involves a great amount of
communication to make it successful.
All throughout television and movie productions viewers are able to see small group communication

As for the feedforward stage of communication, "In Informal social groups, the feedforward may
consist simply of introduction of a topic of conversation or talking about what the group's members
should do (pg. 213)." Since Michael is in prison, this would be considered an informal setting. After
he found people he could trust, Michael introduced the breakout plan to his fellow inmates. The
crew consisted of six men, which included himself and his brother. The six men were all on the
same PI (prison industries) crew together. When–ever they had to work on a job, that's when they
would talk about their plan. Many of the members were skeptical at first, because the plan seemed
crazy. However, Michael convinced them to join anyway. Once the team was on board, Michael
explained what each member of the team needed to do.
After the second stage was completed, the group moved on to the Business stage of communication.
DeVito explains the third stage as, "actual work on the tasks– the problem solving (pg. 213)."
Michael would tell the inmates what tasks needed to be accomplished in order for the plan to be
successful. He had to delegate tasks, so the mission could actually work. Once he told his fellow
inmates what needed to be done, they negotiated on what they wanted. If the inmates were going
complete jobs for Michael, Michael needed to do some work for them first. For example, Michael
knew one inmate (John Abruzzi) had access to a small plane that

higher members of the rabbit society receive the best food available and have the ability to push
around lower class rabbits.
"Everyone's busy and most of the rabbits are enjoying themselves...And you want me to tell the

usually right. His disbelief is most likely because the conditions at his warren are so great there are
no problems visible so he sees no reason to leave the comfort of the warren. Not only that Thereah
probably sees Hazel and Fiver as nobodys wanting to get some attention. Thereah might also think
that his reputation might be damaged if he takes advice from some lower class rabbits. This could
mean consequences for the rabbits who don't believe them.

Young Blood St Louis Analysis
At just twenty years old, Nottingham native Callum Burrows, also known as Saint Raymond, has

album Young Blood via Asylum Records. I was first introduced to Saint Raymond's summery

And so, it's with the release of Young Blood, which really tests his integrity. Can Saint Raymond
really keep this wonderful run of powerful singles and bind them together to form a proper, full
length album? The answer to this question, is yes; and no. The fact that almost half of the songs
from the album have been previously heard before (some are up to two years old), coupled with the
fact that they also happen to be the highlights from the record, prove quite disappointing. In an
attempt to revamp the likes of "Letting Go", "Everything She Wants" and "Young Blood" to add a
refined edge for the album, the opposite seems to have taken effect. Instead of bringing a new lease
of life, the songs seem to have lost their authenticity; that magical, indescribable feature appears to
have been glossed over. Now for the positives... Almost all of the staggering seventeen songs
present, will paint a smile on your face. It's the kind of album that you'll enjoy in the spur of the

instrumentation with a magnificent pallet of immensely vibrant and uplifting sounds; ranging from
expansive guitar riffs and driving drums, to subtle

Art Theft Essay
Art Theft
Of the many crimes that are present in this day and age, one that not only vandalizes the property,
but as well as historical background is that of art theft. A crime that has taken away the sanctity of
churches as well as many other religious and historical sites. Thefts have ranged from WWII (World
War II) to the times of the Holocaust. Of the items that were taken from the churches, relics were
items of great priority. These items not only had great value to the churches they were stolen from,
but a great value to relic collectors. Most of the items taking during these times were either sold or
placed in underground storage. Most of these items that were place in these secret places were never

Placing the best on display causes more of a risk of theft to take place. This is just one of the many
issues that these places are faced with. "The issue facing security managers and owners of museums
and galleries is this: Works of art are meant to be seen by the public or potential purchasers. Visitors
expect to be allowed to scrutinize the objects on display. Thus, the museum's assets are immediately
susceptible to theft or damage, whether accidental or deliberate." (Burrows, p.34) Therefore a type
of security must be in place to prevent this from happening. How should this security system
designed? "In designing museum security, I suggest a three–step approach: (1) List what to protect.
(2) Consider what is likely to happen to it. (3) Consider action to counter the threat." (Burrows,
p.34)
List what to protect:
This step seems obvious, yet is all too often neglected. Careful cataloging when goods arrive not
only helps with future insurance claims but also greatly eases ongoing checks and any later disputes
as to when damage occurred. In fact, more loss may occur through accidental damage during the
setup of displays than through theft. In addition, damage may not be noticed

This implies that most of the medical practitioners are concentrated in the urban areas. Economic
disparity between the urban and rural areas in the U.S. is one of the issues that have contributed to
the shortage of adequate health care professionals in the rural areas (Burrows et al., 2012). The
inability of these areas to recruit and retain health care practitioners makes it difficult to provide the
necessary health services to the deserving populations. The absence of adequate training sites in the
rural areas is also an aspect contributing to the lack of enough health care professionals. With
training facilities widely concentrated in the urban areas, most health care professionals opt to work
in the metropolitan areas (Burrows et al., 2012). According to Jukkala, Greenwood, Ladner, and
Hopkins (2010), there is a decline in the number of health care practitioners in the rural counties of
the U.S. because such areas do not have the necessary resources to attract a large pool of medical
professionals. Low reimbursement levels in the rural areas are also affecting the ability to have
enough health care professionals (Burrows et al., 2012). Without enough pay grades, health care
practitioners cannot be motivated to continue working in the rural areas. Instead of working in the
rural areas and getting low reimbursements, most of them opt to practice in the urban areas. Health

Unit 3 Research Project
Research summary On the theoretical/modeling side, we have been investigating the following three
project goals: 1) Do contact networks explain infectious disease spread? Can the network of
interactions between individuals explain the spread of infectious diseases in animal populations? In
recent years, network modeling has gained popularity as it incorporates heterogeneity in individual
behavior as well as local patterns of contacts (such as formation of clusters and subgroups) in the
population. In wildlife systems RFID, GPS tags, radio tags are being used to generate detailed
movement and contact data, making network modeling feasible. Defining accurate contact networks

Contact network is inherently dynamic in nature, and several factors including seasonal,
environmental and anthropogenic variables may influence the structure of contact networks (and
consequently, the dynamics of infectious diseases that spread through these networks). We explored
the role of demography, seasonal, environmental and anthropogenic drivers on the structure of
burrow–use based contact network of desert tortoises. Desert tortoise spend majority of time in
burrows, and simultaneous or asynchronous use of common burrows might play a role in the spread
URTD from infected to susceptible individuals. We find that seasonal variation has a strong impact
on tortoise burrow use behavior. Our results also show that older burrows and burrows located in
higher topographical positions tend to be visited by more tortoises and, therefore, have the potential
of serving as hot–spots of URTD spread in desert tortoise populations. In addition, we investigated
the effect of three major population stressors affecting this species (translocation, drought, disease),
and find that translocation alters tortoise burrow use behavior, with translocated animals visiting
fewer burrows than

The Ecological Pattern Of Zonation Within The Pauatahanui...
Biology Internal Assessment 2.6 Edward Sargent
Introduction
My investigation was to analyse the ecological pattern of zonation within the Pauatahanui Inlet
estuary at Motukaraka Point. Our focus was to compare the distribution of invertebrate species from
the low tide point to the high tide points of the estuary. This estuary is formed by fresh water from
streams meeting saltwater from the Tasman Sea. We found the pattern of zonation by randomly
placing three 0.3m x 03.m quadrats at 5 metre intervals along an interrupted belt transect line that
was placed at a right–angle to the estuary mouth (Low Tide Point). We recorded the number of
invertebrate organisms on the surface of the mud within the quadrat and then dug down 5cm below
the surface to observe the organisms located there. The main abiotic factor that affects these
organisms is aerial exposure (tidal movement), we also measured the abiotic factors that affect these
organisms, and these included salinity percentage, pH levels, temperatures of the air & substrate and
the light levels. The invertebrates we will be investigating are the Tunnelling Mud Crab (Helice
Crassa) and the Cockle (Austrovenus Stuchburyi). Due to the mud crabs natural instinct to hide in
their burrows when approached, one mud crab burrow was counted as a single mud crab. Also this
particular estuary had consistent cover of single cockle shells from the deceased invertebrates, to
ensure we

Communication Is A Multi Channel Process

In the academic paper "Communication Group Structure and Process", Ray L. Birdwhistell states
that "communication is a multi–channel process." This implies that the auditory channel process is
only part of the deal. Indeed, the importance of the various non–verbal channels is pointed out in
Birdwhistell's belief that "probably no more than 30 to 35% of the social meaning of a conversation
or an interaction is carried by words." A few years earlier, in 1959, Edward T. Hall coined the term
"the silent language" to describe nonverbal communication and direct significant attention toward

The Ethical And Legal Dilemmas That Ms. Burrows
Dissecting an Ethical Case Study Section #1 The ethical and legal dilemmas that Ms. Burrows
admitted to in the stipulation and final agency order were: billing insurance after taking payment for
services, inadequate documentation and record keeping, and failure to have a signed mandatory
disclosure (Stipulation Case No. 2013–938). When making reports to third parties such as insurance
providers, counselors are required to be truthful and forthcoming (American Counseling
Association, 2014). Taking cash payments and then billing an insurance company is not only
untruthful, it is intentional fraud. Another fraudulent action committed by Ms. Burrows was billing
under the depression codes but not having treatment plan connected to depression. Miscoding for
the purposes of billing is insurance fraud (Lane, 2014). Section #2 The six basic moral principles:
autonomy, non–maleficense, beneficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity (Corey, 2015). This case
suffered from non–maleficense because Ms. Burrows was saying she was providing treatment for
depression without doing so, thereby causing potential harm to her client. The client was denied
autonomy by violation of her rights to receive proper treatment that she paid for. Mr. Burrows
violated client's justice by not treating her fairly and denied her the mandatory disclosure
documentation, which is also an issue of fidelity. The client's fidelity was broken when Ms. Burrows

Gopher Tortoise Hypothesis

  • 1. Gopher Tortoise Hypothesis Background/Introduction: The gopher tortoise plays a crucial role in many ecosystems across the United States including places such as Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Georgia, and Louisiana. Gopher tortoises get their name from the burrows they dig, similar to gophers, that assist in many processes in the tortoise's ecosystem. When digging these burrows, tortoises are returning leached nutrients back to the surface. Also, because these animals graze on vegetation, they become important components in the spreading of seeds of different plants many animals feed on. Gopher tortoises also tend to move from burrow to burrow rather quickly, leaving them vacant, providing other animals homes. These animals include those such as foxes, gopher ... As presented above, it is clearly shown that a tremendously less amount of tortoises were found mating during the times of 6a.m. to 10a.m. and 4a.m. to 6p.m. This is most likely because this is when the sun starts do rise or go down, meaning there is less sunlight and therefore less energy for the tortoises. Discussion: The data collected in this experiment did support my hypothesis, as discussed in the results. I believe this evidence is also enough to be able to support my prediction, but may need more trials and experiments done by others to further prove and support it. Similar experiments seemed to show the same results. For example, an experiment discussed in the Introduction talked about the decrease in the abundance of tortoise burrows which led to the decline of mating and therefore also a decrease in the amount of tortoises in the area. Studies like that one could definitely be supported by the findings from this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Count Deer Research Paper There are many methods used to count deer. The capture – recapture method is the most used because it is more accurate than methods that rely on the human senses to count and estimate a population. Visual and auditory counts of animals often contain error, prompting wildlife managers use signs from animals to determine an estimated population size. Using an index population, which shows trends within the population rather than actual number, wildlife managers can determine the relative size of a population. For example, a wildlife manager can count the fecal pellets in a certain area where an animal population is inhabiting. To start the process, all of the old fecal pellets must be removed from the area. After a predetermined interval, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Gopher Tortoise Research Paper There are four species of tortoise that are located on the North America continent only the gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) can be found in the southeastern portion of the United States. The gopher tortoise reside only from the south end of South Carolina to the eastern side of Louisiana (McCoy et al, 1993). They are federally protect because they are on the brink of extinction. A collaborate piece published by the University of Notre Dame found, in the past decade about 80% of the gopher tortoise has cease to exist starting form urbanization to natural disasters (as cite in Hermann et al., 2002). In the Florida Atlantic University's preserve the gopher tortoise's eggs are eaten by coyotes, snakes, cats, and some other carnivorous animals. Gopher tortoise can live as long as 60 years. They are ectothermic so they favor places with direct sunlight. Joan E. Diemer agrees that the gopher tortoise most optimal habitat would consist of loose soil for digging burrows, vegetation for food, and plenty of sunlight (as cited in Auffenberg and Franz, 1982; Hallinan, 1923; Landers, 1980). Besides, being ectothermic their diet consist of mainly grass (herbivores). The gopher tortoise is important because like gopher they dig burrows. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Garden Eels Research Paper On the ocean floor of tropical waters around Asia, Africa, and Australia, you may see a diverse array of ocean plants, but not all are what they seem. Some of these plants aren't plants at all, they're actually small tube–like creatures called Garden Eels. These eels bob up and down in their burrows, and together as a colony to look like sea grass swaying in the warm currents of the Indo–Pacific region. Identification Looking like a straw these eels can grow up to 30 centimeters long, but are on average 8–15 (cm) even though you will never see more than a quarter of their body. Ranging from a deep yellow to gray and spotted, Garden eels have a very high vertebral count from 186–206 which makes them vertebrates. Garden eels are one of few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She most likely does not even know that she has inspired me because she inspired me just by me watching her. Seeing her everyday my 8th grade year was probably one of the most inspirational things to me. Mrs. Burrows was going through really hard times, she simply had a lot going on outside of her teaching life. Her husband had cancer, she had small children, and she would get sick a lot. The limbs and head are usually brown or grey in color. Size / Weight Range Range: They weigh 8 to 15 pounds and their approximate height is 4 to 6 inches. The average length of a desert tortoise is about 10 to 14 inches long, although the males do grow slightly longer on average. Hatchlings are only 2 to 2 1/2 inches. A desert tortoise has a unique shape, and can't be mistaken for anything else native to its range, although introduced tortoise species can complicate this. The desert tortoise is widely spread across the Mojave desert and Sonoran desert of the southwestern United States and the northwestern part of Mexico, especially the Sinaloan thornscrub, western Arizona, southeastern California, southern Nevada and southwestern Utah. Desert tortoise inhabits areas covered with creosote bushes, rocky canyons, semi–arid grasslands and hillsides. It usually lives on the altitude of 1000 to 3000 feet, but it can survive even on the elevation of 5000 feet. Some even live in Death Valley. No other type of tortoise faces the same kind of extreme conditions due to habitat that the desert tortoise does. The extremely high and low temperatures force the desert tortoise to adapt. To survive in the harsh desert climate, the tortoise estivates (remains underground in its burrow) during the hottest times of the day in the summer and hibernates (sleeps underground in its burrow) through the winter. Tortoises come out in the spring to eat grasses and wildflowers and drink water from the spring rains. They store water within themselves and use it through the dry months while water is not available. In the spring, they socialize and look for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Black Tailed Prairie Dogs This profile is on the black–tailed prairie dog. It will be introducing their background, life cycle, structure and function, evolution and an additional interest. It will also be going over their unique social structure and the way they form communities called prairie towns, which are a large system of burrows. The importance of burrows, in particular, to the black–tailed prairie dog cannot be overstated. Black–Tailed Prairie Dogs The black–tailed prairie dog's scientific name is Cynomys ludovicianus that, colorfully, means "dog mouse of Louisiana." It lives in North America in the Great Plains region of the United States. Its territory stretches all the way to the borders of Canada and Mexico, but not to the coasts. The black– tailed prairie dog is the most common and prolific of all prairie dogs, and has the largest territory. Prairie dog towns, a system of burrows that are close together and can span miles, are subdivided into wards, coteries, and individuals on a downward sliding scale depending on population size. Life Cycle Mating The breeding season of black–tailed prairie dogs varies depending on the temperature of their locale. In warmer climates, breeding season may begin in what is still technically the winter. In colder climates, the breeding season may not come until March. The breeding season is a once a year event that starts when "the lengthening hours of daylight after the winter solstice trigger onset of estrus" (Graves, 2001). Males of the ... • 21. North American Tortoise Species NTRODUCTION Distribution of the four extant North American tortoise species have allopatric ranges which occur in three distinctive regions (Figure 1) (Bury and Germano, 1994). The extant gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) (Figure 2) species is a terrestrial reptile native to the southeastern United States and is recognized as an endangered species. Their burrows provide shelter for more than 350 other animal groups designating them as a keystone species of longleaf pine forests (Natural Resources Conservation Service, 2017). Paleontological evidence was compiled to differentiate between extant species to generalize the lineage of testudinid turtles. Lamb and Lydeard (1994) describes the study of molecular phylogeny within the testudinoidea lineage by obtaining blood and muscles samples to isolate genomic DNA and compare mtDNA sequence variation. The above mentioned scientists examined distinct assemblages of the four extant gopher tortoise species: Bolson tortoise (Gopherus flavomarginatus), gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus), desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii), and the Texas tortoise (Gopherus ... Enlarged gular projections are a sex characteristic and used in male–male combat during mating season. Growth rings on the scutes of the CCNHM–1710 plastron were not visible however, due to the carapace length of CCNHM– 1710, it can be suggested that it reached sub adulthood giving it a better chance of survival and would be dark in color (Rostal, McCoy, & Mushinsky, ... • 23. Olfaction Use in Avian Species Essay Olfaction use in avian species Odors are broadly used for individual, sexual and species recognition in vertebrates and may be reliable signals of quality and compatibility when selecting mates. Yet, chemical signals in birds have rarely been investigated. In fact, birds exhibit a wide array of communication mechanisms, such as colors and songs, but rarely display obvious olfactory–driven behaviors. This discrepancy seen in the amount of information regarding olfactory use is due to the belief that birds do not have a well developed olfactory system compared to other animals. Because they do not have a well developed olfactory system, other perceptual cues, such as sight and audition, are seen as better predictors of behavior. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, as they approach their nests, burrow nesters avoid making calls or songs; they do not to bring attention to themselves so predators do not locate their nests. Having to locate their nests in the dark, burrow nesters cannot efficiently use visual cues to locate their nests. Moreover, because they avoid making calls and songs, they are unable to use auditory based cues to locate their nests either. In these cases, other forms of communication is needed. Mardon and Bonadonna (2009) assert that olfactory cues are a reliable method of locating their nests in the absence of visual and auditory cues. Specifically, the characteristic smell of the burrow will help them locate it when returning. To test this hypothesis, Mardon and Bonadonna (2009) used a Y–maze experiment to identify the olfactory preferences of petrels, birds known to use burrow nests. In Y maze experiments, one specific odor is placed at each end of the top side, and the bird is placed at the bottom side. The bird is believed to move toward the end that it prefers. In their experiment using storm petrels, recognized and prefered their own scent compared to conspecifics. Further investigation with petrels found that when placed in the Y–maze they prefer the scent of their mate to the odor of another conspecific (Mardon & Bonadonna, 2009). Their studies show that a personal scent exists for avian species, and that they have a preference for their own and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The mites that cause the condition scientifically known as Sarcoptes scabiei (Stoppler, 2010). An eight–legged microscopic mite burrows into the skin of an infected humans. Per Smith (2016) scabies is a dermatological condition, which are estimated to infect over 300 million humans worldwide each year, including 1 million people in the United States. Scabies is highly contagious, being easily spread through close physical contact such as skin to skin and by sharing bedding, furniture, and clothing. Scabies most frequently occurs in children and young adults, with outbreaks in child care facilities and school commons. Scabies affects people of all races, income, social class and social living. The New England Journal of Medicine states that mites cannot fly or jump but can crawl at the rate of 2.5 cm per minutes on warm skin. The mites can survive for 24–36 hours at room temperature and at average humidity, and remains capable of infestation and epidermal burrowing. The most parasites on a person, the greater the likelihood of transmission. Causes Humans are not the only species affected by mites; dogs and cats can also be infected. It is also arguably the largest spider competing with the giant huntsman spider. They both have a leg span of about 12 inches! That's the size a small pizza! Their bodies are dark brown covered by reddish hairs giving the spider a golden blond appearance. The coloration of this spider gives it its species name "blondi" which is the Latin word for blond, or golden. The goliath bird– eating spider is found in rainforests from southern Venezuela east to Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana and north–eastern Brazil. If there were no worms on earth, farms and many plants could not be properly maintained. This paper will explain how important earthworms are to the earth and to our environment. In addition, this paper will cover the origin of an earthworm, the anatomy and other important characteristics. Origin The origin of earthworms were said to be on earth around 200 millions ago. Their ancestors were marine worms, existing before there was even soil on this planet and vegetation. These worms underwent a slow process of adapting themselves to a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Earthworms slowly bring soil to the surface and cover objects on the ground. This is one reason why archaeologists have to dig down underneath the ground to find fossils. Night crawlers burrows can go as far as 15 feet underground. Night crawlers have something that no other animal has. They have five pairs of hearts. The hearts pump blood with the earthworm's muscular contractions. Only two main blood vessels make up the earthworms body. The ventral blood vessel sends blood to the rear end of the worm. The dorsal vessels pumps blood to the front end of the body and blood travels through the ventral vessels into the capillaries on the body wall and the many other organs. Anatomy The body of the earthworms is considered slimy and weird. Earthworm's body contains 80% water and 70% protein. Fat makes up anywhere from 1 to 17 percent. The body divided into 100 segments. These segments contain a pair of metanephridia, which drain the adjacent anterior segments. The bristles help the earthworm hold its ground when trying to be pulled from its burrow. For instance, a bird pulls off 6 to 7 segments; therefore new segments will grow back. Earthworms are invertebrates, which mean they have no backbone. The mucus on the body helps the worm travel through their burrow smoothly. As the earthworm travels underground the mucus holds the dirt from collapsing on the worm. Grow Temperature Research Paper Discussion This study depicted that common wombat burrows provide a constant temperature 1–2m from the entrance within four different habitats – open field, forested, short ground cover and sandy bank – during both summer and autumn. However, noticeable differences in the temperatures between the seasons were observed. Although, this was expected as the insulating properties of the soil stop daily, but not seasonal, fluctuations in temperature from a depth of approximately 0.30cm (Reichman & Smith 1990), with the main factors that did influence burrow temperatures being time of day, elevation during summer and aspect during autumn. There are few studies in the literature that display the influences of elevation and aspect on burrow temperatures so these may present novel findings that might impact burrow location or use. There were two separate experiments in which the crested macaques were to match a photograph of a specific facial expression to an exemplar while other examples of different expressions and neutral faces were shown. Results showed an unusually high accuracy for emotional expression discrimination, with an 80% success rate (Calcutt et al., 2017). Such a high rate shows that facial expression discrimination is an important survival tool for these monkeys. Agnostic/negative expressions were easier for monkeys to tell apart than affiliative/friendly ones (Calcutt et al., 2017). From this we can infer that detection of unfriendly expressions has been especially important evolutionarily for tufted capuchin monkeys. Overall, the monkeys best at detecting facial expressions have been, and will continue to be, the most equipped and ideal for passing their genes on to future generations. Ways in which gibbons (Hylobatidae), a small ape species, altered their use of facial expressions in relation to the recipient's behavior was explored in a different study by Scheider, Waller, Ona, Burrows, and Liebal (2016). Further, I highlight the main funding options for a small business and determine how management accounting can be of use to business executives especially in the areas of budgeting, incremental analysis and product costing. Lastly, in addition to identifying the basic components of the marketing process, I also discuss the role technology and social responsibility play in the marketing function. Partnership as a Form of Ownership: Pros and Cons A partnership according to Burrow and Bosijevac (2011) "is a business that is owned and operated by two or more people who share in the decision making and profitability of the company." There are several pros and cons of this form of business ownership. To begin with, one of the pros of this form of ownership according to Burrow and Bosijevac (2011) has got to do with the pooling of both the skills and knowledge of partners. By bringing together their diverse skills, partners in this case enhance the success of the enterprise. Secondly, a partnership may be able to access more funding than a sole proprietorship. This is more so the case given that in addition to the ability of partners to pool resources, banks are more likely to advance loans to businesses that have more people responsible for the repayment of the same (Burrow and Bosijevac 2011). • 65. The Future Of The U.s. Health Care System The Future of the U.S. Health Care System Author's Name Khalid Shaaker The Future of the U.S. Health Care System The health care industry is an important aspect in the development of any nation in the world. The provision of quality health care is a universal need that every government endeavors to make available to its citizens. Just like any other industry, the health care system faces major challenges that inhibit the effective provision of health care services. The U.S. health care system invests immensely in ensuring that the citizens of America receive health care services. Despite the innovative nature of the health care system in the U.S., it is evident that there are challenges that are hindering the effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This implies that most of the medical practitioners are concentrated in the urban areas. Economic disparity between the urban and rural areas in the U.S. is one of the issues that have contributed to the shortage of adequate health care professionals in the rural areas (Burrows et al., 2012). The inability of these areas to recruit and retain health care practitioners makes it difficult to provide the necessary health services to the deserving populations. The absence of adequate training sites in the rural areas is also an aspect contributing to the lack of enough health care professionals. With training facilities widely concentrated in the urban areas, most health care professionals opt to work in the metropolitan areas (Burrows et al., 2012). According to Jukkala, Greenwood, Ladner, and Hopkins (2010), there is a decline in the number of health care practitioners in the rural counties of the U.S. because such areas do not have the necessary resources to attract a large pool of medical professionals. Low reimbursement levels in the rural areas are also affecting the ability to have enough health care professionals (Burrows et al., 2012). Without enough pay grades, health care practitioners cannot be motivated to continue working in the rural areas. Instead of working in the rural areas and getting low reimbursements, most of them opt to practice in the urban areas. Health care administrators in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Unit 3 Research Project Research summary On the theoretical/modeling side, we have been investigating the following three project goals: 1) Do contact networks explain infectious disease spread? Can the network of interactions between individuals explain the spread of infectious diseases in animal populations? In recent years, network modeling has gained popularity as it incorporates heterogeneity in individual behavior as well as local patterns of contacts (such as formation of clusters and subgroups) in the population. In wildlife systems RFID, GPS tags, radio tags are being used to generate detailed movement and contact data, making network modeling feasible. Defining accurate contact networks underlying disease transmission, however, has been a major challenge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Contact network is inherently dynamic in nature, and several factors including seasonal, environmental and anthropogenic variables may influence the structure of contact networks (and consequently, the dynamics of infectious diseases that spread through these networks). We explored the role of demography, seasonal, environmental and anthropogenic drivers on the structure of burrow–use based contact network of desert tortoises. Desert tortoise spend majority of time in burrows, and simultaneous or asynchronous use of common burrows might play a role in the spread URTD from infected to susceptible individuals. We find that seasonal variation has a strong impact on tortoise burrow use behavior. Our results also show that older burrows and burrows located in higher topographical positions tend to be visited by more tortoises and, therefore, have the potential of serving as hot–spots of URTD spread in desert tortoise populations. In addition, we investigated the effect of three major population stressors affecting this species (translocation, drought, disease), and find that translocation alters tortoise burrow use behavior, with translocated animals visiting fewer burrows than ... • 69. The Ecological Pattern Of Zonation Within The Pauatahanui... Biology Internal Assessment 2.6 Edward Sargent Introduction My investigation was to analyse the ecological pattern of zonation within the Pauatahanui Inlet estuary at Motukaraka Point. Our focus was to compare the distribution of invertebrate species from the low tide point to the high tide points of the estuary. This estuary is formed by fresh water from streams meeting saltwater from the Tasman Sea. We found the pattern of zonation by randomly placing three 0.3m x 03.m quadrats at 5 metre intervals along an interrupted belt transect line that was placed at a right–angle to the estuary mouth (Low Tide Point). We recorded the number of invertebrate organisms on the surface of the mud within the quadrat and then dug down 5cm below the surface to observe the organisms located there. The main abiotic factor that affects these organisms is aerial exposure (tidal movement), we also measured the abiotic factors that affect these organisms, and these included salinity percentage, pH levels, temperatures of the air & substrate and the light levels. The invertebrates we will be investigating are the Tunnelling Mud Crab (Helice Crassa) and the Cockle (Austrovenus Stuchburyi). Due to the mud crabs natural instinct to hide in their burrows when approached, one mud crab burrow was counted as a single mud crab. Also this particular estuary had consistent cover of single cockle shells from the deceased invertebrates, to ensure we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Thirteen-Lined Ground Squirrel Research Papers The Thirteen–lined ground squirrel gets its name from having thirteen stripes running the length of this ground squirrel's body. The adult Thirteen–line ground squirrel size ranges in length from 10 inches which includes a 3 inch tail. The average weight for these ground squirrels is about 8 ounces. It is a slender rat–sized rodent. Five light and four dark stripes extend along the top of the head and end at the eyes. The underbelly is thinly covered with light tan fur. The cheeks, sides of the body and the legs are yellowish. Each front foot has four toes with long digging claws. There are five toes on each back leg (Internet Center). • 73. Communication Is A Multi Channel Process I See What You Say In the academic paper "Communication Group Structure and Process", Ray L. Birdwhistell states that "communication is a multi–channel process." This implies that the auditory channel process is only part of the deal. Indeed, the importance of the various non–verbal channels is pointed out in Birdwhistell's belief that "probably no more than 30 to 35% of the social meaning of a conversation or an interaction is carried by words." A few years earlier, in 1959, Edward T. Hall coined the term "the silent language" to describe nonverbal communication and direct significant attention toward the subject. The purpose of this paper is to examine the various types of nonverbal communication being displayed in the silent classic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It will be established that although arbitrary, ambiguous and abstract, nonverbal communication possesses undeniable importance and proves advantageous to those who know it (Scroggin). Physical appearance Physical appearance – hair, make–up, and clothing – comes to create a meaningful whole (Scroggin). Large–framed, muscular Burrows dresses up in a hat, vest and pants to exaggerate his masculine prowess to an extreme and represent the aggressive macho. By contrast, gentle Cheng Huan seems in various ways feminine. His robe is elaborate and shapeless, the body underneath appears androgynous in form. Frail Lucy wears a dress to highlight her function as both housekeeper and daughter. Her hair is untidy, presumably a byproduct of her constant chores; she has no time to care for her physical looks. Proxemics Hall, in The Silent Language, uses the term proxemics to stand for the way people communicate by their use of space in relation to other people and the structuring and of their territory. Hall identifies four distances that distinguish the kinds of interactions people have and the relationships they share during them: intimate distance (up to 18 inches), personal distance (18 inches to 4 feet), social– consultative distance (4 to 12 feet) and public distance (above 12 feet). The need for physical space differs depending on the culture, situation, and intimacy of the relationship, and communicates nonverbal messages as signs of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. The Ethical And Legal Dilemmas That Ms. Burrows Dissecting an Ethical Case Study Section #1 The ethical and legal dilemmas that Ms. Burrows admitted to in the stipulation and final agency order were: billing insurance after taking payment for services, inadequate documentation and record keeping, and failure to have a signed mandatory disclosure (Stipulation Case No. 2013–938). When making reports to third parties such as insurance providers, counselors are required to be truthful and forthcoming (American Counseling Association, 2014). Taking cash payments and then billing an insurance company is not only untruthful, it is intentional fraud. Another fraudulent action committed by Ms. Burrows was billing under the depression codes but not having treatment plan connected to depression. Miscoding for the purposes of billing is insurance fraud (Lane, 2014). Section #2 The six basic moral principles: autonomy, non–maleficense, beneficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity (Corey, 2015). This case suffered from non–maleficense because Ms. Burrows was saying she was providing treatment for depression without doing so, thereby causing potential harm to her client. The client was denied autonomy by violation of her rights to receive proper treatment that she paid for. Mr. Burrows violated client's justice by not treating her fairly and denied her the mandatory disclosure documentation, which is also an issue of fidelity. The client's fidelity was broken when Ms. Burrows failed to record proper progress notes, thereby ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Hemigrapsus Oregon Bags Essay The Hemigrapsus oregonensis has a hard, flat shell in a rectangular shape and ranges from two to five centimeters in length. The dorsal side of the shell ranges in colors from greenish–brown to dark reddish–brown. The surface of the carapace is uneven and has patterns that resemble pebbles, among which they are commonly found (Hart 1982). Decapods are characterized as having five pairs of legs, the first pair are claws and the other 4 are walking legs (Jensen 1957). The H. oregonensis has a total of 10 appendages, unless physical damages have caused loss to one or more of them. There are five appendages underneath its shell on each side. It has two claws which are larger than the legs and located in front of the legs. Its limbs and claws are an adaptation that aids in avoiding predators and therefore, ...
