Introduction Leadership in its earliest definitions referred to notions such as centralization of power,
influence of one individual on its followers and even leader and follower. However, in the twenty first
century, it is not uncommon to see organizations utilizing teams to lead and embracing leadership of
those teams through processes. Many organizations have adopted the team leadership approach in
order to meet the constantly changes and complex demands of their clientele. Now more than ever, the
acronym T.E.A.M (Together Everyone Achieves More) has relevance as there has been a shift from a
hierarchy to a heterarchy approach, where there is a lateral decision making rather than vertical
decision making. To lead a team, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What they found was what makes the US Kitty Hawk s 5,000 member crew work together was not
much different than the characteristics of the 1966 Notre Dame National championship team (Larson
LaFasto, 1989). As a result of this study, they were able to identify eight characteristics of effective
teams that can be found in their book titled, Teamwork: What Must Go Right/What Can Go Wrong.
Theory Definition and Characteristics The team leadership theory is built on the foundation of the
eight characteristics of effective teams. Larson and LaFasto developed an assessment tool called the
Team Excellence Survey that contained 40 questions that were aimed to determine a team s
performance based on the criteria associated with the eight characteristics of team effectiveness
(Northouse, 2016). The eight characteristics are as follows: (a) Clear, elevating goal, (b) Results
driven structure, (c) Competent team members, (d) Unified commitment, (e) Collaborative climate, (f)
Standards of excellence, (g) External support and recognition, and (h) Principled leadership.
Subsequent research by Larson and LaFasto led them to develop a 42 item questionnaire that focused
on leadership criterion called The Collaborative Team Leader Instrument (Northouse 2016). As a
result Larson and LaFasto s work in this field, current researchers have been able to pinpoint what we

Fast Foods And Healthy Foods
Fast Foods Verses Healthy Foods Healthy foods are considered in the definition of Segen s Medical
Dictionary (2012) as any food believed to be good for you . Fast foods are considered in the definition
of Merriam Webster Dictionary (2015), as relating to, or specializing in food that can be prepared and
served quickly at a fast food restaurant that is designed for ready availability, use, or consumption and
with little consideration given to quality or significance. Problem Statement The purpose of this
research paper is to supply information concerning the functions fast foods and healthy foods has in
the environment in relation to our bodies. The function of foods in daily life continues to be a
stumbling block to the body performance that often increases stress levels and influences the body s
ability to function properly (Malhi, 2010). The relationship between body image, stress, behavior, and
student performance appear to be rare in literature, school handbooks and resources that is readily
available leaving a gap in research. The complex nature of the body when there are levels of increased
fast foods, creates considerable challenges for the body, (Dellve Wikström, 2009), with individual who
have diets high in fast foods being subject to greater health risks (Wolever, et al., 2012). By addressing
how fast food influences body functions in relation to healthy cooked foods and the relationship both
have to body functions, this research project creates an

Consumer guides defines a smart phone as handheld electronic device that has features of both a
mobile phone and a computer . The security issue of malware in smartphones has been an ongoing
problem but the most important security issue in smartphones today is the data over collection by the
apps in the smartphones. More than the information you store, the modern day devices also use your

IMEI and UDID are the unique ID of a user s phone. Access to IMEI/UDID is a major concern as well
as it ad networks and application developers can get in depth view of users by creating a complete
profile of a user across multiple apps combined with other over collected data (Li et al. 2016, 1342).
Data Collection and Public Awareness
The apps used today often collect data more than needed for its functionality (Li et al. 2016, p.1340).
Often these apps track the user location, access the photos, address books, access calendar and track
IMEI/UDID without users notice (Li et al. 2016, 1340). A report by appthority shows that 24 percent
of the top iOS paid apps track users location. Whereas, 82 percent of the top Android free apps and 49
percent of the top Android paid apps track users location (Li et al. 2016, 1340). Enck et al. (2011,
p.28) studied 1,100 Android apps, and found that half of these apps exposed location data to third
party advertisement servers without requiring implicit or explicit user consent.
Several previous studies have shown that people are unaware of the data collected by the apps running
on their devices Bram Bonne et al (2014) found in their research that 90% of the participants were
worried about the information being collected and 81% wanting to take further precautions to

Mexicantown is a neighborhood in Detroit with a rich history and with many great things happening
in the present as well. The EPIC program is one of the great programs that helps the youth in the
community prepare for the next step. Without programs like this, the burden of being a first generation
student in college is greater and students may feel like they dont have the academic, emotional, and
social support that they need during high school and the transition to college. It is a part of a greater
organization that helps the community in many ways, is in a neighborhood that is incredible diversity

The Last Day Of Elizabeth
The next day Elizabeth received an invitation to Duke of Stratford s Ball. No doubt Blair had secured
it for her she d never run in his set before. She appreciated Blair s efforts but wondered how on earth
she d manage a new gown suitable for such an occasion. The Duke s spring ball was considered the
event of the season. The Regent might even put in an appearance. London s finest would be out in
their most impressive jewels and costly gowns. This was not a playing field Elizabeth was prepared
for. She went to her room to survey her paltry evening gowns and dwindling jewellery case. What she
found further underscored her plight.

Five Types Of Power In Corrections
Correctional officers are generally considered to be at the bottom of the staff hierarchy. The five types
of power that are available to correctional officers in an institution are legitimate power, coercive
power, reward power, expert power and referent power. First, the legitimate power is available to
correction officers similar to the power that is available a chain of command in organizations. Second,
the coercive power establishes a structural relationship of the prisoner and the prison guard by
maintaining discipline amongst the prison population. Third, the reward power is when correctional
officers utilizing formal and informal rewards to influence cooperation among prison inmates.
Additionally, this places correctional officers in

Negative Effects Of Heavy Metal
How many times have you heard, music is the voice of the soul? Music has always been a universal
common attribute among teens across the world. Music of any genre has a way of making some
people feel alive, happy, sad, or in this case, suicidal. Heavy metal, in particular, in the 1980s had
deadly consequences among teens that have listened then inversely committed suicide. Heavy metal
music seemed to have a negative impact on the purpose of which the music is intended, its popularity
among teens, and the physiological issues related to the suicidal risk of certain listeners.
It is debatable that heavy metal sole purpose is to celebrate a newfound feeling of teenage rebellion
and sexuality, providing them with an escape from the realities of the world. While according to Susan
Barbieri s article in the Orlando Sentinel, some may argue that heavy metal instills imagery and anger
that play on fears about Satanism, drugs, sex, and violence. Heavy metal derived from the subculture
of Hard Rock, consisting of hypersonic drum patterns, screeching electric guitar cords, with loud and
often distorted grunts with subliminal lyrics. It is referenced that heavy metal has ties to a lot of death,
the occult, and Nazi symbolism associated with metal bands (Babieri par. 11). While some metal
music can have a positive self identifying effect, most metal music songs are written to promote
outward violence and morbid messages that tend to sway listeners to tap into their violent nature.

Lactate Dehydrogenase Lab Report
Isoenzymes of Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH)
Part A: Separating Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) isoenzymes from tissue homogenates using
electrophoresis
Introduction
Isoenzymes of Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) in plasma are used to indicate whether a person has
suffered a recent heart attack or is suspected to have liver disease. LDH is found in both plants and
animals, it is an enzyme that catalyses the conversion of pyruvate and lactate. Pyruvate is the final
product of glycolysis, in glycolysis energy in the form of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) is produced
from glucose. Isoenzymes are variant forms of the same enzyme that occur within an individual, the
variants can have slight differences in amino acid sequence, in catalytic activity and also differ in their
occurrence in particular tissues. There are five different proteins that can form ... Show more content

The buffer provided ions to carry a current, it also maintained the pH at a constant value, this allowed
for the isoenzymes in the proteins to separate according to charge.
One plasma sample and three tissue homogenate samples (muscle, heart and liver) were applied to the
cellulose acetate card. In figure 1, the isoenzymes in the samples moved towards the anode or stayed
in the area where the initial sample was applied, indicating that some isoenzymes had no net charge
and others had an overall negative charge.
The plasma sample had a mildly visible band in MH3; the muscle sample had visible bands in all
sections with M4 being the most prominent; the heart sample had visible bands in all sections with H4
and MH3 being the most prominent, each band becoming less noticeable towards M4; the liver sample
had a very prominent band in M4 with a barely visible band in M3H.

Why Don T We Have Artificial Gravity Analysis
The International Space Station, in popular science fiction movies, is portrayed as having spaceships
with artificial gravity. In actuality, lack of gravity poses great risks for astronauts, such as muscle
degeneration and disorientation. Rachel Feltman, in her article Why Don t We Have Artificial
Gravity? , addresses the possibility of artificial gravity aboard spaceships. Feltman s claim is that the
artificial gravity, commonly depicted in movies, is not an option in space travel. Feltman utilizes logos
to establish her evidence and reasoning as to why artificial gravity will not work in space, as well as
adopting a pedantic style of writing, plus an allusion to a standard science fiction movie. Feltman
employs logos, an appeal to logic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Characterized by overly bookish and scholarly writing, Feltman does not do much to her writing
stylistically to make it appeal to her audience. Every sentence is followed by an equally fact driven
and evidence based sentence, making the article bland on the surface, but effective in getting the point
across. The only positive of a pedantic style, is that it generally sways the audience to consider the
idea proposed because of the amount of evidence in the content. Feltman uses allusion in the
beginning and the end of the article. She addresses the common science fiction movie, and the tactics
those movies use to establish artificial gravity. She employs this stylistic element so that she can
establish that these movies do not have a scientific basis as to how artificial gravity would work, and
that the methods used in these movies are only

Beloved talk show host Ellen DeGeneres would be reprising her role as the charming yet forgetful fish
Dory in Disney Pixar s Finding Dory animated film, and if there s one thing DeGeneres wants fans to

importance of ocean preservation and valuing the creatures that live in it.
This was what DeGeneres discussed when talking to Yahoo! Movies during the D23 Exposition event

and putting them back in the ocean ... And we have to protect our oceans. Hopefully that discussion

My Final Artwork Project Was Produced And Inspired By The...
My final artwork project was produced and inspired by the reading of Herbert Marcuse. It is a glass
puppet. This puppet came to life due to the reflection of his book, titled One Dimensional Man.
Marcuse was a German American philosopher, sociologist, and political theorist. He was associated
with the Frankfurt School of critical theory; a social and political philosophical movement of thought.
Also during the 60 s and 70 s, he became a major theorist of the New Left. This was a broad political
movement against capitalism and communist society. His goals were to implement a broad range of
reforms on issues such as civil rights, gay rights, abortion, gender roles, and drugs.
Marcuse critiqued capitalist social structures, as well as the impositions made on human freedom
expression and joy. He expressed how we may see ourselves as free, but we are really living in a false
democracy and false sense of freedom which subtly masks an authoritarian rule. In his written works,
he criticized capitalism, modern technology, historical materialism and entertainment culture, arguing
that they represent new forms of social control. These modern cultures strictly divide, brainwash and
influence the way we should live. They really do not represent the real world. Specifically the
entertainment business. Entertainers live their millionaire life behind a wall and totally forget and
ignore the common folks. They are constantly selling us things we cannot afford, how thin we should

Aldi Store Analysis
On Friday after class, I went to the ALDI store in Anderson to make a purchase and to get some

Everything was stacked on top of each other and very close with barely any walking space. There
were no aisles to designate you to your product. You simply had to keep walking around to find what
you need; it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. As I can continue to walk through out the
store, I noticed some designs on packages that looked similar to Chips Ahoy, but it was not that brand.
It was a lower level brand with a similar design. They even had packages that look like it could be
Oreos, Quakers, Kraft and more. The name of the brand that ALDI have mainly in its stores is Benton

The Black Flower by Howard Bahr Essay
The Black Flower The Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864, at Franklin, Tennessee,
as part of the Franklin Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. It was one of the worst
disasters of the war for the Confederate States Army. Confederate Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood s Army of
Tennessee conducted numerous frontal assaults against fortified positions occupied by the Union
forces under Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield and was unable to break through or to prevent Schofield
from a planned, orderly withdrawal to Nashville. The Confederate assault of six infantry divisions

The task of defending Tennessee and the rearguard against Hood fell to Maj. Gen. George H. Thomas,
commander of the Army of the Cumberland. The principal forces available in Middle Tennessee were
IV Corps of the Army of the Cumberland, commanded by Maj. Gen. David S. Stanley, and XXIII
Corps of the Army of the Ohio, commanded by Maj. Gen. John Schofield, with a total strength of
about 30,000. Another 30,000 troops under Thomas s command were in or moving toward Nashville.
Rather than trying to chase Sherman in Georgia, Hood decided that he would attempt a major
offensive northward, even though his invading force of 39,000 would be outnumbered by the 60,000
Union troops in Tennessee. He would move north into Tennessee, defeat portions of Thomas s army in
detail before they could concentrate, seize the important manufacturing and supply center of
Nashville, and continue north into Kentucky, possibly as far as the Ohio River. Hood even expected to
pick up 20,000 recruits from Tennessee and Kentucky in his path of victory and then join up with
Robert E. Lee s army in Virginia, a plan that historian James M. McPherson describes as scripted in
never never land. Hood spent the first three weeks of November quietly supplying the Army of
Tennessee in northern Alabama in preparation for his offensive. The Army of Tennessee marched
north from Florence, Alabama on November 21, and managed to surprise the Union forces. The two

Dangers In Norman Podhoretz s Looking Back AtCatch 22
However, the possible dangers are not limited to ones pertaining to physical injury. An example of this
is Yossarian s conversation with an italian family who is told that Yossarian is their dying son, wincing
and feel[ing] sick at his barefaced lie (Heller 184 185). This scenario serves as a broad implication of
moral loss and danger faced by soldiers. Their lives affect those around them and their families, and
their decisions can also weigh on their conscience. They also rely on each other, and occasionally may
form emotional ties amid all of the superficial relationships, putting a part of their soul at risk.
Reinforcing this assertion that all these conflicts are legitimate fears, Norman Podhoretz in his article
Looking Back at Catch 22 agrees that Yossarian s paranoia... [is] not a disease but a sensible response
to real dangers (Podhoretz 5). Podhoretz s assertion that Yossarian s paranoia, while humorous in its
absurdity, is legitimate illustrates the danger inherent in the common facets of everyday life,
establishing the tumultuous atmosphere in the novel. After this, Heller makes the conflict between
Yossarian much more relatable to the reader by adding in personal enemies and personal struggles to
show the individual applicability of the chaotic uncaring nature of life. The first enemy of Yossarian
embodied in an individual person is Colonel Cathcart. Thinking of ways to reduce negative

Petroleum And Natural Gas Exploration Essay
Executive Summary
April 20, 2010 was the beginning of the end for British Petroleum. BP was started in 1901 by William
Knox D Arcy. Their mission is to operate oil and natural gas exploration, while marketing and
distributing all over the globe. The primary issues the company faces are rebuilding their business
after the tragic oil spill, their low oil prices and internal leadership promotions. Following the 2010 oil
spill, all of BP s top executives were fired, and the company has continued to promote internally, as
recent as February of 2016. The company has been trying to rebrand itself and fix its disastrous public
image that resulted from the poorly handled oil spill. Due to these internal promotions, no new ideas
have been introduced into the company and their efforts in recreating themselves have since stalled,
leading to unmotivated employees and decreased profits. Although British Petroleum has solid
production sites in Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, and various areas of the U.S, the brand s name remains so
tainted from past violations. The declining price of oil, along with that environmental factors that
affect the company, both nationally and globally, have exacerbated this stall and caused the company a
major issue in recovering their public image, reputation, brand name, stock prices, and overall
prosperity. These factors have certainly not been beneficial to the company in recovering from the

But there are ways that online stores can minimize shopping cart abandonment. They must ensure that
their store is user friendly. During the shopping process always allow your customer to review the
steps they have taking as well as the product at anytime (Tuttle, B., Sep 27, 2012). Using an online
comparison tool is always a great thing. Ensure that your online shopping process is clear and easy to
follow. You must keep a clear count of what you have in stock. This will allow the customer to
purchase more than one item. Using icons of the product in the shopping cart is also a great way to let
the customer see what they are purchasing when they are viewing their carts. Be clear on your return
policy. You can also send reminders to your customer to let them know that they have items in their
shopping cart. It is also a good idea not to empty the carts too soon. You want to try and keep them
active for at least 60 days (Tuttle, B., Sep 27, 2012).

Heredity and Hormones Effect on Behavior Essay
Human behavior has been a mystery to scientists and psychologists for years. What causes humans to
act the way they do? Is it learned by experience, or inherited from prior generations? The human brain
is a complex machine driven by numerous intangibles that influence our thinking process directly and
indirectly.
The endocrine system in the human body stores a chemical known as hormones. Hormones are
released by endocrine glands into the bloodstream and travel throughout the body carrying messages.
A hormonal impulse is similar to a nerve impulse only much slower. The messages carried by the
hormones trigger different behaviors. Hormones can affect behavior in many ways such as: Mental
activity or tiredness, boredom or excitement, sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both glands produce two distinct hormones, but produce differing amounts of each hormone.
Masculine hormones such as androgens and testosterone are predominately produced by male testes.
These hormones at high levels can be related to aggressive behavior regardless of sex, but high levels
are most commonly found in males. High levels of feminine hormones or estrogen, most commonly
found in females, have recently been linked to aggressive behavior as well. While high levels of
estrogen in females and high levels of testosterone in males have been linked to aggressive behavior,
normal levels of these hormones have been known to cause aggression as well. Although these
hormones have been related to human behavior, scientists have concluded that these hormones alone
do not dictate behavior (Morris Maisto, 2005).
Adrenal glands, located near the kidneys, secrete several hormones that are activated by the nervous
system. These hormones dictate the body s reaction to stressful situations. Each person secretes a
different amount of hormones, therefore affecting behavior in stressful situations differently (Morris
Maisto, 2005).
Behavior is party affected by human hormones present in the body built from genetic traits inherited
from the individual s parents. The genetic makeup of an individual combined with a certain
environment, can affect behavior. Genetics is the science of analyzing traits inherited through
generations. These traits are determined by genes that

Overpopulation Of Iceland
Iceland is considered one of the fastest warming places on earth. Glaciers cover more than 10% of the
Iceland and are losing an average of 11 billion tons of ice per year. This ice is important to iceland for
many reasons. The glaciers ice stores water for the people of Iceland and the glacial rivers drive the
turbines that power most of the island. Helgi Bjornsson at the University of Iceland s Institute of Earth
Sciences says that in a generation there might not be enough glacial water for either of these things.
Not only this but the loss of weight from these glaciers is causing Iceland to rise at a rate of 1.4 inches
per year. Scientists believe that this rising is causing more volcanic activity. Iceland has experienced

The Medieval Religion Of Islam
During the 16th century, Christianity experienced a reformation in arguably one of the most defining
moments in its history, the church was splintered and it was seen that priests and pastures should have
more independent power, the reform was carried by spreading the holy bibles word and making people
read the words literally to see the religion more for what it is. This action helped to kick start the
modern era we now live in by abandoning the worst qualities of Christianity and also its traditions.
Many people believe this is the path the medieval religion of Islam should take; is this necessary and
why?
Firstly, let s look at the problems associated with Islam. It is a medieval religion founded in the 7th
century making it younger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom in other
words this verse calls for the mass extermination or genocide of non Muslims and non believers, how
can you then call Islam a religion of peace? There are hundreds of other verses and extracts of which I
could highlight however I think it will be more beneficial to point out the major misconceptions of
Islam and also the best way of going about a reformation.
Following on from my previous points, another catastrophic problem with Islam is the fact that it
attracts a very large number of extremists. Actually according to all of the major intelligence services
across the world, 15 25% of total Muslims are radical, that means there are 225000000 people
dedicated to destroying our very way of life, this is a significantly larger number than any other
religion. You may then say that is still not a large enough percentage to represent 1.5 billion Muslims,
however it really does not matter about the so called peaceful majority. If we look back at history, the
Nazi party was a minority however they managed to kill over 6 million Jews in a horrific genocide,
here the peaceful majority did not matter. The communist regime was coordinated by a minority;
however they killed in excess of 50 million people yet again

struggle to write it herself and asked me if I could sit with her and help her to think of the words to say
and if I would write it out for her. I agreed to do this and I explained to Mrs Smith that this was a very
personal thing she had asked me to do and reassured her that what was written in the letter would

Grant Wood’s American Gothic Essay
Grant Wood s American Gothic is one of the most famous paintings in the history of American art.
The painting brought Wood almost instant fame after being exhibited for the first time at the Art
Institute of Chicago in 1930. It is probably the most reproduced and parodied works of art, and has
become a staple within American pop culture. The portrait of what appears to be a couple, standing
solemnly in front of their mid western home seems to be a simplistic representation of rural America.
As simple as it sounds, when looking deeper into this image, it reveals something much more
complex. The first thing to notice about this painting is how incredibly involved and realistic the
brushwork is. The couple s faces are so delicately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is almost a reflection of the man s trident. That same pitchfork shape also appears in the window of
the house that sits in between both figure s heads. Repetition can also be seen in the dotted pattern of
the woman s outfit, which also appears in the material of the curtain that hangs in the house s window.
The echo of verticals in this painting is also strong. The faces and bodies of the figures seem to be
stretched, and narrowed. The pitchfork s slender prongs and the green stripes on the man s shirt also
add to the elongation of their frame. The copious amounts of vertical wood boards that make up the
house and the barn, keep the viewer s eye moving up and down the picture plane. Wood s use of
verticality in this painting is overwhelming. There is also a striking luminosity to the painting. The
man and the woman s faces appear to slightly glow, as if you can really see the reflection of the sun
beaming off of their skin. This was achieved by a complex method of applying glazes. Wood would
apply a layer of oil paint, allow it to dry, and then varnish it. This tedious process would be repeated
numerous times. It was a process perfected by the 16th century Venetian painter, Titian. The series of
glazes seems to have created an overwhelming sense of depth and radiance within the paint. Wood s
use of glazes is not the only reference to early Italian painters. It is clear that Wood was inspired by

Gentrification In Global Cities Essay
Each of the three characteristic contribute to economic growth that subsequently affects social and
spatial relationships within global cities. Sassen states that, Research covering the last two and even
three decades shows sharp increases in socioeconomic and spatial inequalities within major cities of
the developed world and now increasingly also in cities of the global South (Sassen, 241). With the
rise of global cities and an increase in socioeconomic inequalities comes gentrification. Gentrification
changes the market for everyone, as property values go up, people become displaced and
homelessness becomes a bigger problem. Gentrification in a global city is the desire for culture,

Since the mid 1970 s there has been economic and social transformation in the economy in terms of
specific form of urban labor (Sassen, 246). A key shift is the change in occupational and industrial
employment which has also seen a shift in balance. Sassen states that, Such shifts directly affect the
mix of job characteristics, including earnings levels and employment stability, and the types of careers
available to local workers (Sassen , 246). The new type of flexibility leads to an increase in flexible
employment and precarious work. This means that there is an increase in part time jobs that include no
regular scheduling, no set hours and can be highly unstable for the employee. With this also comes the
rise of jobs paying under the poverty level. This affects different cities because workers under the
poverty level can not maintain a middle class level of living, thus shaping the decline of the middle.
Instead of having more areas of middle class structure there is an increase in the separation between
high and low. An example of this can be seen throughout cities with the decrease in middle retail,
which means that there is large separation between the retail to high end and low end, but not much in
the middle. Aside from retail, labor markets in cities are also structures around sets of jobs that are
very particular (Sassen,

Immigration Reform Of Hispanic Immigration
Immigration of Latinos has long caused cultural conflict, especially when it comes to the illegal
immigration of Latinos. Unfortunately, the issue has long been debated and there seems to be no clear
cut answer on how to resolve the problem. Many Americans often overlook the struggles that Latinos
endure and place stereotypes upon this group of people that are untrue. Furthermore, most Americans
are misinformed or uninformed about the other side of this hot issue. The purpose of this essay is to
give the reader a better understanding of Latino immigration from a cultural perspective and what
these immigrants, both legal and illegal experience when relocating to a new country as well as a brief
discussion on the issue of immigration reform. According to U.S. Census Bureau population estimates
as of July 1, 2013, there are roughly 54 million Latinos living in the United States, representing
approximately 17% of the U.S. total population, making people of Latino origin the nation s largest
ethnic or race minority. About 11.7 million immigrants are living in the United States illegally, a
population that has not varied much over the last three years, but has been recently increasing again,
according to new estimates (United States).
Immigration from Latin America and the growth of the nation s Latino population are two of the most
important and controversial developments in the recent history of the United States. Latinos are

permit the adult learners to express what they already know about the skill. Paper planes have been

Multiple sense learning engages the learners through demonstration of the skill with visual aid such as
PowerPoint presentation and the training video with easy to follow steps on how to fold the paper

Critical Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London
Critical Analysis of To Build a Fire by Jack London
The short story of To Build a Fire by Jack London provides the reader a very descriptive tale of a man
s journey through Yukon in the dead of the winter. The protagonist faced many challenges that started
from the beginning of his journey, from the lack of sunlight during Alaska s winter months to fending
off the extreme weather conditions. To the reader, it seems that the man was not intelligent enough or
had the proper instincts to make the journey during these harsh conditions, unlike the dog that
followed him With the on start of London s story, he describes the well known winter season of the
Yukon by indicating the lack of sunlight during the day (London 5). However, the protagonist was not
concern about the lack of sunlight and even knew that even in the near future; the sun would only be
displayed for a few moments during the day (London 7, 8, 9). Any intelligent person understands that
the sun provides the Earth with heat and is required for human life. The protagonist also doesn t seem
to have the mindset of thinking before doing or understanding the results of actions. He understood
that the literal content that there was no sun and the weather was very cold, but did not comprehend
that the combination of these two missing elements would cause danger in his journey. In fact, these
two missing element s was not even on his thoughts as he just knew he was not comfortable (London

Comparing C. S. Lewis The Witch, And The Wardrobe
It is through living a life filled with change and experience that Clive Staples Lewis was able to
confidently proclaim, Is any pleasure on earth as great as a circle of Christian friends by a fire (The
Quotable 223)? Without the events that led C. S. Lewis to this mindset, his famed novels would
probably be nonexistent. The various aspects of Lewis s life inspiring his works are especially
prominent in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, an installment in his series The Chronicles of
Narnia. These moments allowed Lewis to learn, mature, and grow as a person. Additionally, Lewis
was able to draw from these experiences as vast inspiration for unique ideas and themes. An

S. Lewis wanted to share the gift of God with the world. However, Charles Moorman notes in
Contemporary Literary Criticisms that Lewis wanted to complete this feat in an unforced and subtle
way. His goal was to present Christianity from a non Christian point of view. Furthermore, he aspired
to lure people back to the Church and away from laboratories and science (324). Due to his religion,
the power of good versus the power of evil was an extremely prevalent theme and focus in Lewis s
works according to Kathryn Ann Lindskoog. Lewis was also fond of the Christian idea that good, or
Christ, always triumphs over evil (263). In 1 John 1:9, Jesus death grants forgiveness to the rest of the
world, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness (NIV). Similarly, Lewis often incorporated the idea that the fall of man ultimately
brings good to others in his novels. It is this idea of self sacrifice that thoroughly fascinated Lewis.
However, Lewis was aware the people may be skeptical of his religion, as he once was. Because of
this, his works sometimes incorporated elements of skepticism (Moorman 324). Converting to
Christianity was a huge step in Lewis s life and he wanted to subtly let his readers know about this

The Problem Of Arson Investigation
Arson investigation began sometime in the mid 1970 s, and has been a process changed and evolved
ever since. The act of arson consists of purposely setting or starting a fire on someone s property, and
can be for a number of reasons anywhere from vandalism, excitement or serial arson, to revenge,
extremism or crime concealment (Newton, M., 15). Some previously proven indicators pointing as to
whether or not a fire is an act of arson has been questioned, further researched and tested. Many of
these theories have stated that certain markings, post fire, could only appear due an accelerant being
used to help engage the fire or intensify it, though recently many of these theories have been
debunked. The truth behind some of these markings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most misleading processes that can lead to a wrongful conviction is a term called flashover.
Flashover is what seemingly happens when an entire room is engulfed in fire, and flames protrude
from openings within the building. The process occurs in an enclosed space when particles and
combustible gases begin to cluster close to the ceiling, and then slowly fall towards the floor. At this
point, it is likely that an accumulation of air would rush into the room through windows, doors or
other cavities, and ignite the muddle of particles and gases (Starr, 2011). As this process was not
realized until later when arson investigation became more developed, many explanations as to whether
an accelerant was used to start a fire have been recently proven to be more than likely due to the
effects of a flashover. Some of these beliefs were that melted metals, especially those in or near
doorways, burn marks under pieces of furniture, or on the floor were a sure sign that a liquid
accelerant was used to start the fire. Detectives believed melted metals were a sign of a liquid
accelerant because they thought that temperatures high enough to melt these types of metals were
unattainable without an accelerant. In reality, wood fires commonly reach and exceed the melting
point of metals, especially once they hit

related to his hesitation in speech:
To speak or act in a world where all speech and action are equivocal seeming is, for Hamlet, both
perilous and demeaning, a kind of whoring.

For two nights in succession, just as the bell strikes the hour of one, a ghost has appeared on the

  • 3. Carl E. Jr. Katz And Frank M. J. Lafasto Introduction Leadership in its earliest definitions referred to notions such as centralization of power, influence of one individual on its followers and even leader and follower. However, in the twenty first century, it is not uncommon to see organizations utilizing teams to lead and embracing leadership of those teams through processes. Many organizations have adopted the team leadership approach in order to meet the constantly changes and complex demands of their clientele. Now more than ever, the acronym T.E.A.M (Together Everyone Achieves More) has relevance as there has been a shift from a hierarchy to a heterarchy approach, where there is a lateral decision making rather than vertical decision making. What they found was what makes the US Kitty Hawk s 5,000 member crew work together was not much different than the characteristics of the 1966 Notre Dame National championship team (Larson LaFasto, 1989). As a result of this study, they were able to identify eight characteristics of effective teams that can be found in their book titled, Teamwork: What Must Go Right/What Can Go Wrong. Theory Definition and Characteristics The team leadership theory is built on the foundation of the eight characteristics of effective teams. Larson and LaFasto developed an assessment tool called the Team Excellence Survey that contained 40 questions that were aimed to determine a team s performance based on the criteria associated with the eight characteristics of team effectiveness (Northouse, 2016). The eight characteristics are as follows: (a) Clear, elevating goal, (b) Results driven structure, (c) Competent team members, (d) Unified commitment, (e) Collaborative climate, (f) Standards of excellence, (g) External support and recognition, and (h) Principled leadership. Subsequent research by Larson and LaFasto led them to develop a 42 item questionnaire that focused on leadership criterion called The Collaborative Team Leader Instrument (Northouse 2016). As a result Larson and LaFasto s work in this field, current researchers have been able to pinpoint what we now know as the Enabling Conditions of Group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Fast Foods And Healthy Foods Fast Foods Verses Healthy Foods Healthy foods are considered in the definition of Segen s Medical Dictionary (2012) as any food believed to be good for you . Fast foods are considered in the definition of Merriam Webster Dictionary (2015), as relating to, or specializing in food that can be prepared and served quickly at a fast food restaurant that is designed for ready availability, use, or consumption and with little consideration given to quality or significance. Problem Statement The purpose of this research paper is to supply information concerning the functions fast foods and healthy foods has in the environment in relation to our bodies. The function of foods in daily life continues to be a stumbling block to the body performance that often increases stress levels and influences the body s ability to function properly (Malhi, 2010). The relationship between body image, stress, behavior, and student performance appear to be rare in literature, school handbooks and resources that is readily available leaving a gap in research. The complex nature of the body when there are levels of increased fast foods, creates considerable challenges for the body, (Dellve Wikström, 2009), with individual who have diets high in fast foods being subject to greater health risks (Wolever, et al., 2012). • 9. Negative Effects Of Heavy Metal How many times have you heard, music is the voice of the soul? Music has always been a universal common attribute among teens across the world. Music of any genre has a way of making some people feel alive, happy, sad, or in this case, suicidal. Heavy metal, in particular, in the 1980s had deadly consequences among teens that have listened then inversely committed suicide. Heavy metal music seemed to have a negative impact on the purpose of which the music is intended, its popularity among teens, and the physiological issues related to the suicidal risk of certain listeners. It is debatable that heavy metal sole purpose is to celebrate a newfound feeling of teenage rebellion and sexuality, providing them with an escape from the realities of the world. While according to Susan Barbieri s article in the Orlando Sentinel, some may argue that heavy metal instills imagery and anger that play on fears about Satanism, drugs, sex, and violence. Heavy metal derived from the subculture of Hard Rock, consisting of hypersonic drum patterns, screeching electric guitar cords, with loud and often distorted grunts with subliminal lyrics. It is referenced that heavy metal has ties to a lot of death, the occult, and Nazi symbolism associated with metal bands (Babieri par. 11). While some metal music can have a positive self identifying effect, most metal music songs are written to promote outward violence and morbid messages that tend to sway listeners to tap into their violent nature. ... In actuality, lack of gravity poses great risks for astronauts, such as muscle degeneration and disorientation. Rachel Feltman, in her article Why Don t We Have Artificial Gravity? , addresses the possibility of artificial gravity aboard spaceships. Feltman s claim is that the artificial gravity, commonly depicted in movies, is not an option in space travel. The only positive of a pedantic style, is that it generally sways the audience to consider the idea proposed because of the amount of evidence in the content. Feltman uses allusion in the beginning and the end of the article. She addresses the common science fiction movie, and the tactics those movies use to establish artificial gravity. This was what DeGeneres discussed when talking to Yahoo! Movies during the D23 Exposition event held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. I think that fish should be in the ocean. This puppet came to life due to the reflection of his book, titled One Dimensional Man. Marcuse was a German American philosopher, sociologist, and political theorist. He was associated with the Frankfurt School of critical theory; a social and political philosophical movement of thought. Also during the 60 s and 70 s, he became a major theorist of the New Left. This was a broad political movement against capitalism and communist society. His goals were to implement a broad range of reforms on issues such as civil rights, gay rights, abortion, gender roles, and drugs. Marcuse critiqued capitalist social structures, as well as the impositions made on human freedom expression and joy. He expressed how we may see ourselves as free, but we are really living in a false democracy and false sense of freedom which subtly masks an authoritarian rule. In his written works, he criticized capitalism, modern technology, historical materialism and entertainment culture, arguing that they represent new forms of social control. These modern cultures strictly divide, brainwash and influence the way we should live. They really do not represent the real world. Specifically the entertainment business. Entertainers live their millionaire life behind a wall and totally forget and ignore the common folks. They are constantly selling us things we cannot afford, how thin we should ... • 16. The Black Flower by Howard Bahr Essay The Black Flower The Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864, at Franklin, Tennessee, as part of the Franklin Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. It was one of the worst disasters of the war for the Confederate States Army. Confederate Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood s Army of Tennessee conducted numerous frontal assaults against fortified positions occupied by the Union forces under Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield and was unable to break through or to prevent Schofield from a planned, orderly withdrawal to Nashville. The principal forces available in Middle Tennessee were IV Corps of the Army of the Cumberland, commanded by Maj. Gen. David S. Stanley, and XXIII Corps of the Army of the Ohio, commanded by Maj. Gen. John Schofield, with a total strength of about 30,000. Another 30,000 troops under Thomas s command were in or moving toward Nashville. Rather than trying to chase Sherman in Georgia, Hood decided that he would attempt a major offensive northward, even though his invading force of 39,000 would be outnumbered by the 60,000 Union troops in Tennessee. He would move north into Tennessee, defeat portions of Thomas s army in detail before they could concentrate, seize the important manufacturing and supply center of Nashville, and continue north into Kentucky, possibly as far as the Ohio River. Hood even expected to pick up 20,000 recruits from Tennessee and Kentucky in his path of victory and then join up with Robert E. Lee s army in Virginia, a plan that historian James M. McPherson describes as scripted in never never land. Hood spent the first three weeks of November quietly supplying the Army of Tennessee in northern Alabama in preparation for his offensive. • 17. Dangers In Norman Podhoretz s Looking Back AtCatch 22 However, the possible dangers are not limited to ones pertaining to physical injury. An example of this is Yossarian s conversation with an italian family who is told that Yossarian is their dying son, wincing and feel[ing] sick at his barefaced lie (Heller 184 185). This scenario serves as a broad implication of moral loss and danger faced by soldiers. Their lives affect those around them and their families, and their decisions can also weigh on their conscience. They also rely on each other, and occasionally may form emotional ties amid all of the superficial relationships, putting a part of their soul at risk. Reinforcing this assertion that all these conflicts are legitimate fears, Norman Podhoretz in his article Looking Back at Catch 22 agrees that Yossarian s paranoia... [is] not a disease but a sensible response to real dangers (Podhoretz 5). Podhoretz s assertion that Yossarian s paranoia, while humorous in its absurdity, is legitimate illustrates the danger inherent in the common facets of everyday life, establishing the tumultuous atmosphere in the novel. After this, Heller makes the conflict between Yossarian much more relatable to the reader by adding in personal enemies and personal struggles to show the individual applicability of the chaotic uncaring nature of life. The first enemy of Yossarian embodied in an individual person is Colonel Cathcart. Thinking of ways to reduce negative perceptions and boost commendations to himself, Cathcart decides ... Their mission is to operate oil and natural gas exploration, while marketing and distributing all over the globe. The primary issues the company faces are rebuilding their business after the tragic oil spill, their low oil prices and internal leadership promotions. Following the 2010 oil spill, all of BP s top executives were fired, and the company has continued to promote internally, as recent as February of 2016. The company has been trying to rebrand itself and fix its disastrous public image that resulted from the poorly handled oil spill. Due to these internal promotions, no new ideas have been introduced into the company and their efforts in recreating themselves have since stalled, leading to unmotivated employees and decreased profits. Although British Petroleum has solid production sites in Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, and various areas of the U.S, the brand s name remains so tainted from past violations. The declining price of oil, along with that environmental factors that affect the company, both nationally and globally, have exacerbated this stall and caused the company a major issue in recovering their public image, reputation, brand name, stock prices, and overall prosperity. Is it learned by experience, or inherited from prior generations? The human brain is a complex machine driven by numerous intangibles that influence our thinking process directly and indirectly. The endocrine system in the human body stores a chemical known as hormones. Hormones are released by endocrine glands into the bloodstream and travel throughout the body carrying messages. A hormonal impulse is similar to a nerve impulse only much slower. The messages carried by the hormones trigger different behaviors. Both glands produce two distinct hormones, but produce differing amounts of each hormone. Masculine hormones such as androgens and testosterone are predominately produced by male testes. These hormones at high levels can be related to aggressive behavior regardless of sex, but high levels are most commonly found in males. High levels of feminine hormones or estrogen, most commonly found in females, have recently been linked to aggressive behavior as well. While high levels of estrogen in females and high levels of testosterone in males have been linked to aggressive behavior, normal levels of these hormones have been known to cause aggression as well. Although these hormones have been related to human behavior, scientists have concluded that these hormones alone do not dictate behavior (Morris Maisto, 2005). Adrenal glands, located near the kidneys, secrete several hormones that are activated by the nervous system. These hormones dictate the body s reaction to stressful situations. Each person secretes a different amount of hormones, therefore affecting behavior in stressful situations differently (Morris Maisto, 2005). The painting brought Wood almost instant fame after being exhibited for the first time at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1930. The portrait of what appears to be a couple, standing solemnly in front of their mid western home seems to be a simplistic representation of rural America. The echo of verticals in this painting is also strong. The faces and bodies of the figures seem to be stretched, and narrowed. The pitchfork s slender prongs and the green stripes on the man s shirt also add to the elongation of their frame. The copious amounts of vertical wood boards that make up the house and the barn, keep the viewer s eye moving up and down the picture plane. Wood s use of verticality in this painting is overwhelming. There is also a striking luminosity to the painting. The man and the woman s faces appear to slightly glow, as if you can really see the reflection of the sun beaming off of their skin. This was achieved by a complex method of applying glazes. Wood would apply a layer of oil paint, allow it to dry, and then varnish it. This tedious process would be repeated numerous times. It was a process perfected by the 16th century Venetian painter, Titian. The series of glazes seems to have created an overwhelming sense of depth and radiance within the paint. Sassen states that, Such shifts directly affect the mix of job characteristics, including earnings levels and employment stability, and the types of careers available to local workers (Sassen , 246). The new type of flexibility leads to an increase in flexible employment and precarious work. This means that there is an increase in part time jobs that include no regular scheduling, no set hours and can be highly unstable for the employee. With this also comes the rise of jobs paying under the poverty level. This affects different cities because workers under the poverty level can not maintain a middle class level of living, thus shaping the decline of the middle. Instead of having more areas of middle class structure there is an increase in the separation between high and low. An example of this can be seen throughout cities with the decrease in middle retail, which means that there is large separation between the retail to high end and low end, but not much in the middle. Flashover is what seemingly happens when an entire room is engulfed in fire, and flames protrude from openings within the building. The process occurs in an enclosed space when particles and combustible gases begin to cluster close to the ceiling, and then slowly fall towards the floor. At this point, it is likely that an accumulation of air would rush into the room through windows, doors or other cavities, and ignite the muddle of particles and gases (Starr, 2011). As this process was not realized until later when arson investigation became more developed, many explanations as to whether an accelerant was used to start a fire have been recently proven to be more than likely due to the effects of a flashover. Some of these beliefs were that melted metals, especially those in or near doorways, burn marks under pieces of furniture, or on the floor were a sure sign that a liquid accelerant was used to start the fire. Image Compression Using Hybrid Svd Wdr And Svd Aswdr Image Compression Using Hybrid SVD WDR and SVD ASWDR: A comparative analysis Kanchan Bala (Research Scholar) Computer Science andEngineering Dept. Punjab Technical University Jalandhar, India kanchukashyap@gmail.com Er. Deepinder Kaur (Assistant professor) Computer Science and Engineering Dept. Punjab Technical University Jalandhar, India deepinderkaur.bhullar@gmail.com Abstract In this paper new image compression techniques are presented by using existing techniques such as Singular value decomposition, wavelet difference reduction (WDR) and Adaptive wavelet difference reduction (ASWDR). The SVD has been taken as a standard technique to hybrid with WDR and ASWDR. Firstly SVD is combined with WDR (SVD WDR) and after that it is combined with its advance version that is ASWDR (SVD ASWDR) in order to achieve better image quality and higher compression rate. These two techniques are implemented or tested on several images and results are compared in terms of PSNR, MSE and CR. IndexTerms Compression rate (CR), Peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), Mean square error (MSE), Joint photographic expert group (JPEG2000), Singular value decomposition (SVD), Wavelet Difference Reduction (WDR). I. INTRODUCTION One of the applications of DIP is transmission and encoding.
