The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Spanish Colonialism on the History of Puerto Rican People
Puerto Rico . The name immediately brings to mind images of a beautiful lush tropical island of
enchantment. The name Puerto Rico usually does not conjure the image of Taino Indians or
African slaves, yet these populations have great importance in laying the foundation for the notion
of identity of Puerto Ricans. In contemporary debates of Puerto Rican identity, it is essential to
examine the history of the island to determine the effects of Spanish colonialism on Puerto Rican
identity. As he demonstrates in his article Puerto Rico: the Four Storeyed Country , Jose L.
Gonzalez discusses the notion of identity as a series of storeys, one built upon another in order

17). The island s discovery did not lead to a quick occupation, though. Juan Ponce de Leon, in
search of gold, made the first effort to settle on the island in 1508. In the next twenty years, the
Taino population became decimated while forced to labor in prospecting gold, a phase that ended
in this time, succumbing to disease and a breakdown in their social network.
An important implication of this initial occupation of the island by Spaniards is the imposition of
the Spanish language. Because the Taino population could be counted in small amounts and
Spanish had established their presence on the island by instilling their language as the only
accepted language, in the name of Spain, a first storey was constructed in the notion of identity of
the Puerto Rican. The Tainos had been moved out and taken over, the Spanish had moved in and
started to let their culture infiltrate into that of the Taino, and now things were changing.
Because the gold rush on the island lost its surge, the Spanish turned its attention to the agricultural
success they could have with the island. However, as a result of their occupation, they lacked the
labor force to effectively move an agricultural economy. In order to replenish the population and
create a strong labor force, the Spanish took part in what others around Puerto Rico had begun to
do, import cheap labor, namely African slaves. As the profit grew from cash crops sugar emerging

3. Of Mice and Men the Relationship Between George and Lennie...
How does Steinbeck present the relationship between George and Lennie in this chapter? The
author John Steinbeck presents the relationship between the two characters, George and Lennie
in different ways as they are both different characters and have different personalities. He
presents it like a parent and child relationship, with George being the parent and Lennie the child.
As soon as the reader is introduced to George and Lennie Steinbeck tells us that, They had
walked in single file down the path . This immediately notifies the reader of the kind of
relationship between George and Lennie, it does this by stating single file . This reminds us of a

I could also notice when I was reading through the first chapter that George has a sense of
authority over Lennie, you gonna get that wood . This is like a parent telling a child to do his
chores. On some occasions though George shows a bit of hatred towards Lennie, he thinks of
what he could have if Lennie wasn t around and contrasts that with George. There is also a sense
of lack of trust in the relationship between the two men. We see this through the predicament with
the work cards. It tells us that George again has to take care of Lennie, and that Lennie isn t
trusted by George. Again this idea is portrayed to the reader on page seventeen, we notice that
George knows that he needs a plan b as Lennie cannot be trusted so his plan b is to tell Lennie to
hide in the brush until I come for you . This helps us to understand the relationship even further.
George also treats Lennie like a dog in one occasion in the chapter, good boy . This is something
a master would say to a dog to encourage them, it also tells us the sort of role in the relationship
George has again.
In conclusion, we see that Steinbeck uses various techniques to portray the relationship between
George and Lennie. But the main method is the idea of George being like a parent to

11. A Study On Sex Education
According to the University of Kansas, historian Jeffrey P. Morgan in his book Teaching, Sex,
sex education first appeared in 1913 when Chicago public schools instituted a lecture series for
girls and, separately boys, on physiology, moral hygiene, and venereal disease . Americans have
viewed adolescent sexuality as an impulse to be controlled, or better, repressed. Sex educationhas
mainly aimed at saving teenage girls from having early sex, and the prevention of sexually
transmitted diseases. Alfred Kinsey discovered that girls and boys started having sex at younger
ages than usual; this made the change in the curriculum for sex classes critical. Comprehensive sex
education classes are key to our youth to ensure a healthy lifestyle, to obtain a proper education, and
to achieve economic progression. Thus making comprehensive sex education classes more effective
than abstinence only classes.
Abstinence only classes became funded federally in 1996 when Congress passed the landmark
Welfare Reform law. Before then, classes such as Family Life Education, and sexual history were
taught. The Department of Health Science did a study and discovered that the abstinence only
classes were not bringing down the numbers enough to be effective. Now the classes are all
evolving into sex education classes, which teach teenagers safe ways to have sex. The Federal
Government has now stopped all funds of abstinence only classes and started funding sex education
classes. The government is

The orangutan, Pongo pygmaeus, is an ape that is found in the moist, coastal rainforests of
Sumatra and Borneo which consists of Indonesia s Kalimantan provinces, Malaysia s Sabath and
Sarawak, and the kingdom of Brunei Darussalam. Orangutans live in tropical rainforests and are
arboreal primates meaning that they are tree dwelling. Orangutans construct nests in the tree
branches for the night in which they will curl up and sleep. These nests are made out of leaves
and branches and they will sometimes use a leaf as a roof to protect themselves from the rain.

The hierarchy among orangutans is the Noayu, which is where there is a solitary male. There is

Being lighter, females and juveniles often stay in the trees. Not only is there a noticeable difference
in size, but males also possess quite a few different characteristics than female orangutans do. For
example, males have big cheek pads and facial hair that resembles a man s moustache and beard.
The numbers or orangutans have recently dropped tremendously owing to loss of habitat to
deforestation and the killing of females for their young, to be sold as pets or zoo animals. Fewer
than 30,000 individuals are believed to remain in the wild, and the species is listed as

Antigone s action could be considered as immature and impulsive. She understood the
consequence of violating Creon s order, but she still insisted. Ancient Greek believes that above
the laws of man, there are laws of the gods and Antigone also believe on it. She believes burying

responsibility to bury her brother which was the reason for her actions. On the other hand, Creon s

18. Exploring Factors Affecting the Quality of Life for...
Australia is a vast land with a diverse environment and communities isolated by great distances. Its
peoples have a diversity of culture, educational and economic circumstances, health needs, services,
and social structure. Therefore the welfare issues experienced and the impact these have to lifestyle
within Australias different populations would also differ in relation to these factors. This is
certainly true for RuralAustralia.
The biggest factor impacting Rural Australia has been the changes to the economic viability of
primary production, one of the largest sources of income for Australia (Australian Government,
2008), affected by globalization, deregulation, privatisation and reduction/withdrawal of services,

This tightening of expenditure continues on throughout the community. Business may cease
sponsorship of the local football teams and individuals may cut back on patronage of local
restaurants. Local charities and churches may notice a reduction in donations. It isn t just the newly
unemployed and the businesses that are affected. The general community begins to experience a
fall in optimism for the future. Economic downturn with the resulting sense of hopelessness and
despair is a major factor contributing to the high rate of rural suicides. A lot of people who get put
on the economic scrapheap through no fault of their own feel an enormous sense of worthlessness
(Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission,1999, p.5).
The newly unemployed can find it hard to gain other employment in the region as most rural areas
rely on one major industry for employment. Another problem is that many of the people employed
in primary production areas are likely to have limited education or skills and so find changing
careers difficult without assistance.
Education in Rural Australia is not necessarily valued or available in the same way it is in
metropolitan areas. Many children need to travel great distances or live away from home to access
secondary and particularly tertiary education. The high cost of living away from home, lack of

my placement a gentleman who had been receiving support from the CHMT requested a hearing

gentleman experienced stages of maniaand manic episodes. A study in this area reported that
people with bipolar I disorderexperienced syndromal or subsyndromal manic or hypomanic

For this book report I chose to read an historical novel called The Last of The Mohicans by James
Fenimore Cooper. It is the second book of the Leatherstocking Tales pentalogy and the best known.
The Last of the Mohicans is set in 1757, during the French and Indian War when France and
Great Britain battled for control of North America. During this war, both the French and the British
used Native American allies, but the French were particularly dependent, as they were outnumbered
in the Northeast frontier areas by the more numerous British colonists. The story takes place in the
territory of the Great Lakes of the United States during the last war that had England and France for
the colonization of that territory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Market
Introduction. The problems in this chapter examine some variations on the apartment market
described in the text. In most of the problems we work with the true demand curve constructed from
the reservation prices of the consumers rather than the smoothed demand curve that we used in the
text. Remember that the reservation price of a consumer is that price where he is just indifferent
between renting or not renting the apartment. At any price below the reservation price the
consumer will demand one apartment, at any price above the reservation price the consumer will
demand zero apartments, and exactly at the reservation price the consumer will be indifferent

The main character of the book, Esperanza Rising, is a young girl named Esperanza. The story
begins in Aguascalientes, Mexico on a beautiful ranch owned by Esperanza s father. However,
Esperanza and her family are forced to immigrate to America. Throughout the journey, Esperanza
reveals several of her personality traits. All of these traits can be represented by symbols. First, a
bag of coins can symbolize Esperanza s selfishness and arrogance in the beginning of the story. I
chose this because a selfish and conceited person would want more of something and believe he
or she is superior to other people. Esperanza s selfishness shines through on page 69 where the
author writes, Mona, she said, and reached up to touch the doll. Esperanza quickly jerked it
away and put it back in the valise, covering it with the old clothes. Also, her arrogance is shown
on page 67 when Esperanza is boarding a train filled with peasants and she says, We can t travel in
this car. It s not clean and the people don t look trustworthy. These quotes clearly suggests that
Esperanza dislikes sharing her possessions with the less fortunate, wants more for herself, and

Her hard work can be signified by a shovel. I chose this object because many jobs that involve

Irene have already offered to watch Pepe and Lupe. Her hard work is also displayed on page 182
where the author writes, She put her hands under the faucet, rinsed off the avocado, and patted
them dry. They felt better, but still looked red and weathered. She took another avocado, cut it in
half, swung the knife into the pit and pulled it from the flesh. These quotes suggest that Esperanza

27. The Company Whole Foods Market
For my individual assignment, I chose the company Whole Foods Market (WFM) which deals
in selling products that are organic and fresh to its customers. WFM was founded by John
Mackey and Renee Lawson Hardy, owners of Safer Way Natural Foods, and Craig Weller and Mark
Skiles, owners of Clarksville Natural Grocery in Austin, Texas where the original store opened in
1980 and consisted of a staff of only 19 people. WFM was founded because those four local
businesspeople decided the natural foods industry was ready for a supermarketformat and at that
time there were less than half a dozen natural food supermarkets in the United States (http:/
/www.wholefoodsmarket.com/company info/whole foods market history). For the rest of this
paper, I will be going more in depth about the company s history and background, why I chose this
company, the organization s environment, mission, culture, and if the company will change or
needs to change.
As I mentioned WFM was originally created by four people who felt that it was a good time to
introduce a store that was all about natural foods. The first WFM opened on September 20, 1980
and consisted of 10,500 square feet and a minimal staff. Less than a year later there was one of the
worst floods in Austin since 70 years ago at that time which caused the store s inventory to be
whipped out and a mass amount of the equipment was damaged. There was $400,000 worth of
damage and WTF has no insurance on the store. Customers and neighbors volunteered

28. The Narrator s Use Of Suspense In The Film Jaws
All is lost shows the persistence of the human spirit, in the ability to continue after adversity.
The opening shot places the protagonist in a life boat, at sea, startled from his reclined position
as he line snags. As he reels in the line the audience feels growing suspense as the protagonist has
been stuck at sea for days and if he has been able to successfully fish for food, we can feel
optimistic for his future at sea. The audience is rudely awakened when the suspense turns into
horror, not the expected delight, as a shark emerges from the water and takes his catch. Through
this use of suspense and the building of tension, the audience feels the protagonist s
disappointment along with him. When the protagonist tries to search for the sharks who stole his
catch he cannot see them, no matter how hard he tries. This can be seen as an allegory to the fact
he cannot predict the future events to happen. He is at the whim of the sea and to nature in
general. This is further highlighted by a low angle shot from beneath the life raft which shows the
sharks circling the protagonist. The use of a low angle shot in film gives power to the figure being
shot. In this instance the sharks are in the position of power, as they are the embodiment of nature

as he views his surroundings, which emphasises that he is at the will of the ocean and we cannot
expect what is to come next. As he accepts the fact he cannot see below the surface of the water a

29. Explain The Reasons Why Language Change Over Time
There are many reasons why language change over time. Social, cultural and even age factors are
some of the major influences in how language change. Language tells us a lot about each country
and holds information that can be traced back in history and cultural background. Every country has
its own way of living, they have their own rules and regulations. Everything that makes that country
what it is, is passed down from generation to generation. When we learn a language, we aren t only
taught that language, we are also taught the cultureof the nation that it belongs to. It s truly difficult
to accurately understand a language without understanding the culture associated with it. Rev SJ du

Because of migration, we are exposed to different languages and with language always changing a
developing we see the adaptation of the of new words or new meanings of existing words.
Learning a new language is also regarded as a social process rather than an individual achievement.
Everyone has their own way of speaking and communicating with others. Which gives amazing
experiences because we all know that the way people generally think is the same way they
generally communicate. When different ethnic society is combined, they tend to force the
development of words that are not frequent. Ethnic diversity and variations are usually the influence
that drives the rule of language. Language variation is affected by ethnic groups because they often
have to learn a language that is specific to their environment. Although they consider their language
to be their identity they are often forced to substitute it with another or combine it. Take for
instance an immigrant that arrives in a new country. They have their own language and their own
way of speaking however that have to quickly adopt the new language however they may still

On September 5, 1995, Hillary Clinton delivered an influential speech at The Fourth World

specific gender group, normally female. It s most common in India, China, and other regions in
Southeast Asia (GirlsKind Foundation). Crimes, such as bride trafficking, infanticide,
abandonment, and dowry related murder; often take place within private households, going

Pathos is important in this speech when you are trying to change others views on women s rights.

mass gathering of data to identify specific problems within the safety sector. Such as Cardosi,
Falzarano, Han (2008) researchbased on ASRS reports, where they analyzed 386 reports from the

By providing the users with its benefits of confidentiality and partial immunity, it draws people in to
report the problems that will be used for future identifications and research. Several researchers have
already used the data provided by the system to create further safety information within the aviation
field, although the amount of data the gathered was rather limited and needed a further boost,
which the ASRS system can provide if the majority of personnel are aware of its existence.
Furthermore, a majority of the research literature so far has all been based on the data that the
ASRS has stored, but almost no research has been done on the ASRS awareness within the
aviation community. If the proper research is done on the ASRS and the knowledge of it of the
aviation sector, the field would view a greatly increased input of data and create a truly
preventative system that create an overall safer environment. The current state of awareness of the
ASRS system within the aviation community is severely inconspicuous and under used. Through
the proposed research, additional data will be collected to clearly identify a percentage of people
that are aware of the ASRS program and know how to utilize it.

by Robert Wise and released in 1965, The Sound of Music features musical numbers accompanied
by the movement and dancing of the von Trapp family. The setting of the film is Salzburg, Austria
in 1938 immediately following the start of German occupation due to the Anschluss. Ultimately,
the reprise of So Long, Farewell in The Sound of Music subverts governmental authority over war
by portraying a movement shift from being restricted and uniform to running away with hope of

As this pattern progresses, the children escaping the stage show more and more freedom of
movement. The last set of two sibling is two of the oldest daughters who, right before their exit,
make a small leap. This is the first time that enough excitement is shown that any of the family
members actually leave the stage surface. At this point in the number, only the two adults and the
youngest child are left on stage. The youngest von Trapp is ushered off stage to join the others
before Maria and Captain calmly walk off stage, embracing each other.
The most obvious subversion of war authority belongs to the setting of the movie 1938 in Salzburg,
Austria, the year in which Germanic Nazi power took over Austria. In March of 1938, Austria was
the first victim of Hitler s policy of aggression. The German domination of that country (the so
called Anschluss) heralded the beginning of a diplomatic demarche (Clute VII). Specifics as to how
this happened include a conspired alliance between Austrian Nazis and German Nazis who
infiltrated their power into Austrian government. The timeline of events began when Austrian

Have you wondered about how the African American slaves got their freedom? In the video,

how people came into places, and in general how the world is what it is. The underground railroadis
not a literal railroad, but a name for a 200 year long struggle of breaking free from slaveryin
America and gaining your basic human rights. Living as a slave back then was miserable,
torturous, and in general a nightmare. The slaves couldn t even think about doing something for

the path leading up to my refuge is obscured from view, the land in front of the bench is barren
rock, opening out onto a large expanse of sky. Squinting in the sunlight, my eyes follow an
osprey soaring free over the water. I inhale deeply, letting the refreshing salt air rush through my
lungs and clear my head. I peer over the edge, and watch the receding tide far below. From my

37. Marfan Syndrome
Marfan Syndrome Have you ever wondered about the diseases that you can get from your
parents? One of these major diseases that can change someone s life is called the Marfan
Syndrome. Marfan Syndrome is a disorder of connective tissue that is inherited from the parents.
The bones and circulatory system are usually the parts of the body that are longer and the ones that
are changed because of the disease.
There are many things that can cause a disease. Marfan syndrome is caused by a mutation in the
fibrillin 1 gene. The gene produces a protein that is essential for formatting the elastic fibers found
in connective tissue. About 75 percent of people with Marfan syndrome inherit the mutation from
one affected parent. A parent who has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of organ systems that are affected by Marfan Syndrome would be the Skeletal system, the
muscular system, your heart and you blood vessels. It would affect your bone by making you very
tall, slender, and loose jointed. You re Arms, legs, fingers, and toes may be disproportionately
long in relation to the rest of the body because Marfan syndrome affects the long bones of the
skeleton. A person with Marfan syndrome usually has a long, narrow face, and the roof of the
mouth may be arched, causing the teeth to be crowded. It weakens and stretches your muscles and
begins to place weight on the vertebrae in the lower spine.
It would also start to wear away the bone surrounding the spinal cord. It would also make your
heart weaker and more vulnerable to damage and kill the person with the disease. It would then
affect your blood vessels by making the large artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of
the body, weak and it will stretch. Then because of this it will increase the risk that the artery will
erupt and if it does it will cause serious heart problems or sudden death.
Our Lives are very short and when you have a disease it makes your life even shorter. People with
Marfan Syndrome have to face this catastrophe everyday of their lives. Wondering when they will
die because of their disease. If I had a genetic disease, I would be very sad and not happy because I

According to Melinda (2014), the function of respiratory system is to supply oxygen into the
body, by breathing in, and to remove carbon dioxide which is the waste, from the body, by
breathing out. Franklin (2014), outlines that oxygen is most needed in the body, in order to live.
This is because every cell in the body needs oxygen, in order to function properly. Also, oxygen is
required in the blood in order to covert food into energy. Beside, Melinda (2014), clarifies that these
movements are named inspiration (breathing in) and expiration (breathing out). However,
Zimmermann (2014), elaborates that the key purpose of respiratory systemis gaseous substitute. He
also simplifies that within respiratory system, new air is always brought into the body, and the
used air is expelled out. In this way, oxygen is picked up and carbon dioxide is lost by the body.
Furthermore, Waugh (2014), illuminates that air tremendously travels through the nostrils in the
nose, which is filtered, warmed and moistened. He simplifies that tiny hairs, called Cilia looks
after the nasal pathways and other parts of the respiratory area. Waugh (2014), elucidated that the
oxygen is filters out dirt and other particles that enter the nose through the breath in air. He
simplifies that air can possibly be breathed in through the mouth as another way of breathing.
However, Kara (2010), clarifies that the two airways of the nose and mouth come across to the
pharynx, which is positioned at the back of

In 2024, or as soon as 2020, roller derby should be an Olympic sport. I find that roller derby is just
as entertaining and interesting as the sports currently in the Olympics such as canoe sprint, cycling,
golf, rowing, sailing, and table tennis. Those examples are from the Summer Olympics. The Winter
Olympic sportsinclude curling, luge and skeleton.
Roller derby is a rapidly growing sport. At this moment, there are 469 female roller derby teams in
the world. To make a team you need at least 12 people. Taking these numbers into consideration, if
you multiply 469 by 12, you would have a minimum of 5,628 people playing roller derby around
the world. This figure does not even include men s roller derby leagues or junior leagues. Junior

The Unjust Annexation of the Philippians
No man is good enough to govern another man without that other s consent. Abraham Lincoln.
(Document A). The United States did just this in 1898, when they annexed the Philippines. The
Filipino people had been fighting for their independence against Spain for many years before the
US intervened. The rebels, led by Emilio Aguinaldo, were grateful for the assistance. The Filipino
people thought that the US had come to help free them from Spain. Unfortunately for the Filipino
people, they were incorrect. On February 6, 1899, the United States of America annexed the
Philippines, much to the disgust of the rebels in the Philippines and many people in America

behind this was partially for economic prosperity, thinking that the Philippines held the secret route

China, Japan, Mexico, and Germany. The US does not own any of these countries. You do not have

Metaphors of Organizations
All theories of organization and management are based on implicit images or metaphors that
persuade us to see, understand, and imagine situations in partial ways. Metaphors create insight.
But they also distort. They have strengths. But they also have limitations. In creating ways of
seeing, they create ways of not seeing. Hence there can be no single theory or metaphor that gives
an all purpose point of view. There can be no correct theory for structuring everything we do.

What Role Does Reason Play in Determining the Content of Morality
Immanuel Kant and David Hume diverge in their ideas about the nature of morality and do not see
eye to eye on how to determine whether or not an action is morally permissible. Kant holds that
practical reason alone can be used to determine whether or not a line of behavior is moral, whereas
Hume believes that reason is inconsequential to morality and that the way to determine whether an
action is moral is to examine the sentiments that it provokes within us.
Despite these differences in Kant and Hume s theories of moral philosophy, adherents of the two
philosophers, nevertheless, for the most part agree on the contents of morality. However, though
the moral rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Kant, in order to determine the morality of a particular behavior it is necessary to be able to
appraise that behavior rationally free of emotional coercion. According to his Universal Law
Formulation (ULF) a moral act is one that we can rationally will that others carry out as well. By
the same token, to behave in a way that is immoral is to conduct oneself in such a manner that we
cannot rationally will that others comport themselves in.
What Kant s reliance on reason as the ultimate determinant of morality means is that the moral rules
constructed by Kantians are steadfast and unwavering. Granted it is admittedly possible for some
Kantians to say that the moral rules generated from Kant s philosophy are able to accommodate
extenuating circumstances, Kant s insistence on putting practical reason over empirical factors
means that the ULF will either pass or fail a maxim consistently, regardless of circumstances.
It follows from Kant s argument that all beings endowed with rational faculties will be able to
use either the ULF or the Formula of Humanity to derive the same moral rules, regardless of the
particular state of affairs they are faced with. Of course, it is certainly possible for an individual,
say Shelly Kagan, to use the ULF to pass a maxim that say something like Shelly Kagan can kill
whoever he wants, whenever he feels like it, such maxims, however, abuse the ULF by bringing in
circumstantial factors the name Shelly Kagan for instance is a

importance is placed on the color black, white remains present throughout the novel. The colors
combine in many instances to lend great significance to characterization and setting. Through
symbolism, Wright uses the colors black and white to illustrate the major problem of the era: the
separation of black and white Americans. Furthermore, Wright utilizes communist red to

Mary also has bright red lips that differ from her milky skin and jet black hair. Also, the

As the Rolling Stones called them in their hit song, Mother s Little Helper , Mother needs
something today to calm her down, and though she s not really ill, there s a little yellow pill, she
goes running for the shelter of a mother s little helper, and it helps her on her way, gets her
through her busy day , benzodiazepines were and extremely common medication in the 70s and
80s and many households had their bottle of Valium. The dependence on high dosages of
benzodiazepines such as Xanax and Valium are a major clinical concern. According to Michael
Liebrenz of the University of Bern, This form of dependence is not confined to users who exceed
a set amount of diazepam equivalents, but is typically found in patients who have a high dose,
long term and/or otherwise problematic use, such as mixing BZDs, escalating dosage, using BZDs
for recreational purposes, obtaining them by illegal means, and/or experiencing negative social
consequences (Liebrenz, 2016, p. 1). So the problem is not only found in patients who take large
dosages, but in patients who also abuse the drug, combine multiple types of benzodiazepines and
other drugs, and purchase them illegally in order to be under the influence of a benzodiazepine. This
is why, for the last decade, less and less prescriptions of benzodiazepines have been dispensed in
the United States. However, over the last 20 years the quantity of benzodiazepines on each
prescription has increased (Brett, 2015, p. 152).

Food insecurity has been affecting the US population as about more than 23 million Americans,
