The main difference between the federal budget and the...
The main difference between the federal budget and the state and local budgets is the issue of a
monetary deficit, in which expenditures in the budget exceeds revenues that were estimated. State and
local governments are required to balance their budgets. The federal government is allowed to borrow
money to meet its obligations and have a deficit. The federal government collects the most tax
revenue, but state and local governments have a greater range of revenue options for funding their
budgets. The federal government relies mainly on income taxes, capital gains and Social Security
taxes. State and local governments collect sales taxes, taxes on fuel, property taxes and fees from
special licenses and permits. Also, many state and local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next largest portion at almost 10% of the budget is allotted to Criminal Justice. In the state of
Georgia we have 159 state funded prisons that house over 57,000 inmates (Ga Prison Fact Sheet). This
also includes over 13,000 state employees that run these facilities (AJC Prison). Each inmate takes
approximately $51 a day. This includes housing, meals and general day to day activities (Ga Prison
Fact Sheet). Forth largest in the Georgia budget is for Debt Services. Debt services include the
payments of the principal and interest of any general or long term obligation that the state has accrued.
This amount is over $64 million in 2012. Lastly, the fifth largest budget allocation is for
transportation. Transportation encompasses road repair, improving the efficiency of the movement of
goods, construction of new roads and Highways and reducing congestion within the state. Along with
these services, the salaries and benefits of their employees are figured into this section of the budget
(Georgia Budget site). Figure 3: Local Budget (Cobb County Budget). This budget shows the
breakdown on the spending in Cobb County Georgia. Cobb County includes portions of Atlanta and is
just north of Fulton County, which contains the largest portion of the city of Atlanta. The largest

Overview of the War of the Rif
The Rif Army
The war of the Rif, also known as the second Moroccan War, was fought from 1920 to 1926. Spain,
France and the Moroccan Berbers, of the Rif s mountain region, had joined forces to take control and
divide the country of Morocco into even parts. The reason behind this was because they wanted
power, like most imperializing countries strive for. What the invading force did not know was that this
was not going to be an easy task.
The Rifs, the indigenous tribes of Morocco had joined forces to fight this super power using guerrilla
warfare that devastated the Spanish and French forces. Led by Abd al Karim, the Rifs defeated the
Spanish on their initial invasion and took control of large amounts of European weapons (Pletcher, ...

Although the Spanish army had more than 140,000 soldiers on ground, they were no match for the
highly skilled Rifian army. Eventually the Spanish reservists had to call for assistance from the
Spanish army of Africa to aid them in this conflict. The Spanish army began to train with the French
army on combat tactics and procedures in which they eventually adopted, thus the Spanish Legion was
established in 1920 under the command of General Francisco Franco. As their numbers grew larger, so
did their reputation for being extremely ruthless, as they led a large number of offensive operations,
ravaging and devastating the country of Morocco.
The War
During the course of the war, the Spanish army in northern Morocco was defeated by the Rif army in
July of 1921. This day is now known as the Disaster of Annual . 8,000 soldiers and officers were
reported killed in action or had disappeared out of an initial total of 20,000 soldiers. The Spanish were
starting to be pushed back over the following five years due to the evolving tactics that the Rif army
was using against Spain. As the Rif army pushed east, they had captured over 130 Spanish military
forts. Towards the end of 1921, Spain had lost all of the territory they had gained during the initial
invasion in 1909. The remaining 14,000 Spanish soldiers fell back to one of the last remaining forts in
eastern Morocco Melilla which happened to be their largest military fort in

Victorian Norms In Bram Stoker
Developing the inside versus outside tensions between England and Eastern Europe, Bram Stoker
challenges Victorian social norms. This tension is particularly evident when understanding the spread
of vampirism to be an invasion of England. Although this invasion is fantastical and not realistic, its
targets the legitimate Victorian fear of invasion. As an island nation close to other significant
European powers, England was able to escape many years of land invasions, but always had to remain
wary of the threat of a naval invasion. This fear of invasion is realized when Dracula launches a small
scale invasion of England. He enters by boat and proceeds to terrorize England through its women.
This idea of subliminally addressing the fears and desires of England is effective because Stoker
masks them in fantasy. Furthermore, this is effective because individuals in a culture act out certain
unconscious or repressed needs, or express in an overt and symbolic fashion certain latent motives
which they must give expression to, but cannot face openly (Cawelti, 11). Because this novel is a
fantasy, Stoker is able to challenge the social norms of the period within a popular work. Therefore,
aided by fantasy, Bram Stoker uses the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures to challenge
Victorian ideals and reveal the changing nature of gender roles and sexuality in British society.
The commentary on Victorian ideals stems from the differences between England and Transylvania.
While England was characterized by Protestantism, education, technological innovation, and Victorian
culture, Transylvania was entirely different with a dated technology and a balance between
Catholicism and more superstitious beliefs. These distinctly different cultures initially collide as
Harker travels to visit Count Dracula. As Harker moves further to the East, the mood shifts from
unfamiliarity to more evil and depressive. This is evident as he describes the darkness of his
surroundings as the road was cut through the pine woods that seemed in the darkness to be closing
down us, great masses of greyness produced a peculiarly weird and solemn effect (Stoker, 9). This
unfamiliarity and anxiety in Harker illustrates that he is entirely

Slide 3: The distribution of authority and decision making differs between the opera and the
symphony. The opera, as an adhocracy, is headed by Ms. Ewers, who reports to the Board of Trustees.
Ms. Ewers makes most of the financial and fund raising decisions, as evidenced by her ability to
increase the Opera s annual budget from $1.5 million to $5 million. Subordinates have some decision
making authority within their respective roles. For instance, below Ms. Ewers is the Director of
Operations, who is responsible for overseeing and leading numerous department directors. These
department directors are in charge of the smaller units and have some decision making power and
authority. Ms. Ewers designated such duties as the technical and artistic facets of opera production,
music administration, and community education to these subordinate groups. This is Adhocracy
culture is what differentiates the opera organization. An adhocracy culture allows employees to be
empowered with some authority and decision making. The hierarchy of power eventually leads back
to Ms. Ewers and the Board of Trustees; however, the department directors are the ones who are
primarily responsible for their department. For example if a manager wants to incorporate a certain
prop in a performance, that decision is his/hers to make. A side note worth mentioning is that after the
department directors, there are several departments that have managers who will also be

Personal Criminological Theory
Personal Criminological theory To prevent crime, it is imperative that the law enforcement agencies
and scholars examine why people commit crime. A number of theories have emerged and many still
continue to be explored in exclusion and in combination to seek the best solutions that can ultimately
reduce the types and the levels of crime. One such theory that is still being explored is social
disorganization theory. According to this theory people s tendency to take part in criminal activities is
largely determined by the neighborhood where they are brought up in especially if conditions
favorable to crime and delinquency prevail in such places. When communities becomes incapable of
realizing common goals and solve problems that its residents face, there is a high likelihood that its
residents will engage in criminal activities (Sampson Grove, 1989). Some of the problems that are
likely to increase incidences of crime in neighborhoods when communities fail to address them are
poverty, residential mobility, ethnic heterogeneity, and weak social networks. They decrease a
neighborhood s capacity to control the behavior of people in public. Neighborhood s ecological
conditions shape crime rates over and above the characteristics of individual residents. Communities
that have been invaded by businesses and industry cease to function effectively as a means of social
control. Their traditional norms and standards eventually weaken and disappear. The community s

Joan Didion On Morality Essay
Joan Didion is an author who was part of the New Journalism movement during the 1960s and 70s
which was quite a change from the traditional styles. New Journalism utilized research and fiction like
writing methods to explore topics on events that occurred in the sixties and seventies. Joan used New
Journalism techniques in her writing by using imagery to make a connection with the reader and
convey morality. She first presents examples then builds up her essay to define what being immoral is.
She uses the definition and her example to close the essay and bring the reader back to the purpose of
the passage, to inform the reader of her opinion on morality. She uses morbid, vivid imagery to shock
the reader and make them more vulnerable so they will accept her claim. It is important to note Joan
Didion s background because it helps the reader understand that On Morality consists of ideas that she

choice they were supposedly opposed to. Her use of imagery is very resourceful when she says, At
least some of the time, the world appears to me as a painting by Hieronymous Bosch; were I to follow
my conscience then, it would lead me out onto the desert with Marion Faye... (Didion 3). She
mentions the Hieronymous Bosch painting because it is a bizarre painting with obscure images and

The Invention Of The Modern World
In almost every scientific discipline, complex, specialised instrumentation has been considered
important, if not integral to scientific development. As the scientific developed and professionalised,
instrumentation integrated yet further into the social routine of formal laboratory work and, arguably,
became endemic within the fabric of everyday late industrial life1. This state of affairs has persisted
since at least the late nineteenth century2. In some cases, instrumentation has almost subsumed the
individual scientist within historical narrative. It is impossible to imagine classic depictions of the
great myth of Galileo without the obligatory appearance of at least one of his telescopes3, or a sketch
of Newton without his refracting prism. Celebration of material apparatus has been an enduring
theme, particularly in more poplar depictions of the process of scientific progress. Today, the
seemingly incomprehensibly complex microscope or (now orbital) telescope are still instantly
recognisable, as visual shorthand for the sharpest points within the material armoury of the scientist. It
is therefore undeniable that from the genesis of Western modernity in the sixteenth century there has
been a near obsession with developing, enhancing and portraying devices of observation,
measurement and quantification. Yet the literary examination and incorporation of scientific
instruments into narrative and displays of physical heritage has been a convoluted and (at times)

The Prince And Niccolo Machiavelli s The Republic
The Republic is a Socratic dialogue written by Plato that is widely considered to be one of the most
influential and well known works in philosophy and political theory. The Republic is largely focused
on defining and explaining the concept of justice through both a individual man and through the
perfectly just city. This ideal city is known as the Republic and throughout the work, there is much
debate and discussion over how the city should function and be run to create this perfectly just
environment. Throughout the dialogue, it is acknowledged that the republic is an imagined city that
doesn t exist anywhere on earth . (Glaucon 274) Along with The Republic there have been many other
philosophic texts that attempt to create the model society or leader. In contrast to this style, The Prince
written by Niccolo Machiavelli is centered around how to maintain or take control of a kingdom and it
describes politics as he believes it exists in reality and not in one s imagination. The Prince is well
known for being a kind of counter to Plato s Republic. The most notable and obvious clash between
the two writing can be found in Machiavelli s criticisms of what he refers to as imagined republics .
One can be certain that Plato would have responded to Machiavelli s criticisms in a brilliant show of
wit, however Plato died in 347 B.C. and The Prince was not published until 1532. For one to
determine the manner in which Plato may have responded, one must first identify and

Frost-Pre-Depth
Frost depth is the depth that the groundwater in soil is expected to freeze. The frost depth differ
depends on the climate conditions of that area, the heat transfer properties of the soil and adjacent
materials, and on nearby heat sources. The building code takes frost depth into account of the
calculation because of frost heaving that can damage buildings by moving the foundation. it is
significant that the footings of buildings must be installed in the ground below the frost depth. If the
underground portions of the supporting structure are above the frost depth, the pressure applied on the
footing will be upward. This could push the footing out of the ground or even responsible for major
structural damage in buildings. So, always confirming

In those two days the women, and some men, were able to draw up the Declaration of Sentiments,
which is loosely based off of the Declaration of Independence, and an accompanying list of
resolutions, both to be debated before being well prepared and properly altered before being put

the document; however, in the end it was kept, being signed by 100 people out of about 300, 68 being
women and 32 were men.
It was not until the 1850 s that something similar to the Seneca Falls Convention was organized in

women, led by Barbara Bodichon and Bessie Rayner Parkes, met to discuss then contemporary issues

The Cruelty Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
The inclination to belong in a group or society is naturally present in all humans. We, as a species,
want to belong somewhere or with someone. Even though, we understand the struggle of fitting, we,
as humans still persecute others for not being similar to us. All in all, the exclusion is a form of
bullying. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley exemplifies this phenomena of human behavior,
when she shows the maltreatment that Frankenstein s monster is given for his unattractive physical
features and what he does to terminate his isolation. Victor Frankenstein engulfed in the dedication of
creating a god like image of himself creates a monster. Upon its creation, the monster s entire
perception of the world was around Victor Frankenstein resembling an infant perceiving its
surroundings through its parents. Victor was the monster s father . The monster tried to learn more
information on its creator by staring at Victor Frankenstein laid out on the bed. The monster is
displaying the behaviors of the attachment theory. All of us have a predisposition to instinctively and
immediately seek to attach ourselves to someone who will keep us safe (Lines 51). Victor
Frankenstein is the first one who outcasts the monster. Victor shuns the monster for being hideous,
from the moment he is resurrected. His aspirations of a creature worth admiring was plunged down the
drain. Ostracized by Victor Frankenstein, the monster left the humble abode of Frankenstein. Child

The Keynesian Fiscal Policy Solution Aggregate Demand
The Keynesian Fiscal Policy Solution Aggregate Demand Problems
The 1920 s witnessed a rise of a new economic policy which had not yet been seen prior to the great
depression. Before the great depression, the widely accepted economic policy which was implemented
and practiced around the world was called Natural Economics. Natural Economics was a fiscal policy
that embodied the idea that the economy would eventually take care of itself and run freely without
the government s influence. However, the duration of the Great Depression was so substantial that it
exposed natural economics to be ineffective. This lead British economist John Maynard Keynes to
invent his own economic policy that he introduced to economist around the world with the ... Show

In circumstances; such as war, Keynesians economic policy provides a near perfect solution for
boosting an economy. However, without a war to force an increase in demand, an increase in
government spending would snowball into a business cycle of aggregate demand problems. Aggregate
Demand is the total demand for goods and services within a market and consists of four main
components; investment, consumption, government spending and net exports. These coincide directly
with Keynesian s economic fiscal policy. For boosting aggregate demand is the primary focus and
supposed key to Keynesians fiscal policy solution. Since aggregate demand coincides directly with
Keynesian s economic policy, all of the policy s long term problems become aggregate demand
problems. With Keynes policy s increase in government spending comes an initial boost in consumer
spending which then boosts aggregate demand. Businesses increase supply and expand to meet this
boosted demand. However once the fiscal stimulus package runs out, the once increased aggregate
demand begins to decrease. The federal reserve begins to then print more money in order to
compensate for the recently depleted fiscal package in order to maintain the aggregate demand levels.
Additional printing of money lowers the value of the dollar thus causing inflation. As inflation rates
rise in the economy consumers purchasing power decreases. With consumers purchasing power

An Intensity Discrimination Study Search
Abstract
An intensity discrimination study searching to find out how many exposures of a stimulus it takes in
order for context coding to operate. It was predicted that there would be an increase in the percentage
of correct intensity discriminations as the number of trials increased because a roving standard was
used which allowed for context coding. Participants were given an intensity discrimination task where
two tones of different intensities were presented. Participants were asked to indicate which was louder.
Results showed that there was no improvement among any of the 6 trials, thus concluding that context
coding did not take place within 6 trials.
Introduction
Ones discriminatory ability in audition is considered to be the ability to detect a change in a given
auditory stimulus whenever one of its dimensions is increased or decreased. One topic in keen interest
of research is the role of memory in discriminating sound attributes. A dimension often studied is
frequency. To investigate the ability to discriminate frequency, two tones are presented to a listener
with an inter stimulus interval. The listener then indicates which tone is higher in pitch. Changes in
interval length is used to investigate the role of memory when discriminating sounds attributes.
Anderson (1914) studied inter stimulus intervals up to 4 seconds in relation to discrimination and
concluded that all intervals tested are equally favourable, with a slight deterioration in the 4 second

Sean Lowe and the People of New York v. Keesshawn Nesbitt. In People v. Lowe, the court decided
on January 13, 2015, that Lowe was guilty of endangering the welfare of a child under Penal Law §
260.10(1). On June 28, 2014, after a firefighter could not immediately revive the defendant on a
public street while his two children in his care, one of the children being supervised by a stranger on
the street and the other missing according to the defendant himself, it was finally established from an
EMT technician called to the scene that Lowe was highly intoxicated under the influence of a
controlled substance. Both the EMT technician and firefighter smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic
beverage emanating from the defendant; however, when they reported it the firefighter only mentioned
that the defendant seemed under the influence of a controlled substance. For this reason, Lowe tried to
fight the case by using that as a Misdemeanor Complaint but it failed to be converted into one,
because the information of the eyewitnesses, using either terminology, was facially sufficient. Next in
order, in People v. Nesbitt, the court decided on September 17, 2015, that the defendant was guilty
after a deponent witnessed him enter an informants car without permission while carrying a backpack
with an unlicensed imitation firearm/air pistol, pellets for an air pistol, and a bullet proof vest inside.
The air pistol apparently looked, felt, and weighed the same as a real pistol with a propelling force of
air and not orange rubber stop on the tip. The court decided that under Penal Law § 165.05 Nesbitt is

Soviet Union and the United States Race into Space
In 1957, the Soviet Union and the United States once rivals in the Cold War began to race for being
the best in spaceflight. The space race was eventually resolved in an agreement in 1972. Before this
agreement, each sent satellites in attempts to try to out do the other. Satellites eventually turned to
manned spacecrafts, which then turned to men on the moon. Now there is the International Space
Station, which is a permanently crewed and cooperative laboratory in space. All of this started with a
little friendly competition between the USSR and the United States. However, despite the fun space
typically is, the government should not spend any more time up in space and should spend its time
trying to correct the plummeting economy and other problems here on Earth.
Background
In order to truly understand space exploration, it is crucial to have a strong and accurate sense of
background knowledge of the space race. The foundation of rocketry was built by Wernher Von
Braun. Von Braun was the inventor of the rocket and the world s first ballistic missile the V 2 (The
Hunt). In 1932, he tested his rocket in front of the military, only to have it fail (Bellis). Over time he
was able to design and construct rockets that were able to function, like the previously mentioned V 2
rocket. The V 2 was an extremely deadly rocket; it travelled at 2,386 miles per hour with its load of
one ton of high explosive (Trueman). The rockets were later used in World War Two. About 1000 V2 s

3. a. What is a scientific theory? What is a scientific law?
A scientific theory is a well substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a
body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment.
A scientific law is a statement based on repeated experimental observations that describes what will
happen every time under a particular set of conditions. b. How do scientific theories differ from
scientific laws?
A scientific law describes an observed pattern in nature, but does not provide an explanation for it. A
law predicts what happens in nature while a theory attempts to explain

I Am A Second Grade English Language Arts Teacher
In my five years of being a third grade English Language Arts teacher, the implementation of guided
reading has been my biggest struggle. My school has fully adopted the guided reading program within
the past 2 years. A guided reading library and books for professional development have been
purchased, but very little training has occurred. The journey of learning how to successfully teach
Reading using Jan Richardson s approach to guided reading has been a challenge to say the least.
Scheduling has been the largest obstacle I have faced in implementing guided reading in my
classroom. I have spent this summer researching and reading about guided reading in an attempt to
gain further understanding of the process and the outcomes before the next school year begins. Guided
reading is a method of teaching reading that be used with every reader, whether they are just
beginning to read, struggling to read, or are able to read independently (Iaquinta, 2006). According to
Anita Iaquinta, there are three fundamental purposes for using guided reading. The first fundamental
purpose is to meet all of the ranges of instructional needs of every student in the classroom. The
second fundamental purpose for guided reading is that it enables students to significantly build and
expand their reading abilities. The final fundamental purpose of guided reading is for students to learn
how to read increasingly difficult texts (Iaquinta, 2006). Guided reading lessons are completed in
small groups

Using Deconstructive Criticism to Analyze an Advertisement...
The average American is exposed to an estimated number of about two hundred fifty to five hundred
advertisements in a single day. As unrealistic as the statistic seems, it is because most people are not
often aware of the companies attempt to expose their products through an advertisement to the
consumers unless it is one that is personally appealing to themselves. An advertisement is used to grab
the attention of the audience by means of television, radio, internet, billboards, magazines, and
newspapers. Through the use of media, the advertisers usually create the advertisement to persuade the
audience to take an action after viewing the advertisement or they use the advertisement to manipulate
the audience into believing their product is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tee shirt on the man and the woman are red and pink. Red is a complementary color of green on a
color model, meaning the effect of using these colors together create a vibrant visual in the viewer s
eyes. If the and the woman were both wearing red it would look displeasing to the eye so they have
the woman wear pink instead which still pleases the viewer s eye against the green background
because it is a similar relative color to red. The Newport cigarettes are either blue and white with
highlights of gold or green and white with highlights of gold so they use a lot of similar colors in their
advertisement to represent their product. Not to mention on the color model, blue and orange are
complementary colors.
The body language in the main picture of the man and woman stands out because they use their
genuine, bright smiles to depict pleasure while they enjoy feeding each other a slice of cake. Cake is a
symbolism of fun and happy times which is why the advertisers use cake to portray their happiness
and pleasure. The couple also looks very energetic and eager. This makes the audience appeal to their
product because the audience will believe that they will also feel pleasure from using their product.
The wording in the advertisement is simple and it sends out a message that is depicted throughout the
entire advertisement. Pleasure is synonymous to energy, happiness, brightness, and enjoyment and the

Adapting to a Long Term Care Facility Essay
The character Dorothy said in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, there is no place like home (Baum, 1960,
p. 45). Sadly, many of our elderly live in Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF). The transition from living
in their own homes, to living in a LTCF, can be a traumatic experience. Poor adaptation to a LTCF
may cause depression, malnutrition and significantly reduce the lifespan of the elder. Thus, it is
imperative, that nurse s recognize this promptly. According to Agnes and Guralnik (2008) adaptation
is a gradual change in behavior to conform to the prevailing cultural pattern (p. 15). When elders are
placed in a LTCF, whether it be voluntarily or involuntarily, they must give up certain liberties that are
taken for granted. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
160). She goes on to say that adaptation to a LTCF is the process by which someone copes with the
transition into the life of being a LTCF client (p.159). How the elders view their situation also plays a
major role on their adaptation to the LTCF. When someone views the environment in an absolute
negative way, they are going to struggle to become adapted. On the other hand, if they look at the
positives of the environment they may adapt more appropriately. According to Sister Callista Roy s
theory, adaptation is the process and outcome of individuals and groups, who use conscious
awareness, self reflection and choice to create human and environmental integration (Bergland and
Kirkevold, 2006, p.686). This theory lends to adaptation of living in a LTCF by examining a key issue,
the elders choice. With personal experience in this matter, it seems as if elders who make the decision
of moving into a LTCF better adapt to the environment. In my opinion, a lot of how elders adapt to
living in a LTCF depends on the choices they make. If they sit around, and think poor pitiful me, they
will have a much harder time adapting to their new environment. If the elder becomes engaged in their
new environment, they will adapt more efficiently. As Parker (2013) mentioned, she stays heavily
involved in activities that the LTCF provides, but also performs a multitude of other activities in her

tends to happen. People face job loss, the death of a loved one, and other stressful situations.
Therefore, it is of no surprise that panic disorder and other types of anxiety disorders are so common.

Though it is very rare, children have also been diagnosed with panic disorder in the past (Gloster,

they experience panic disorder. First of all, they are at a time of their lives where they may be settled.
However, at this age people have children, jobs, and several different relationships to maintain. They

The Vs. The Purple Crayon And The Frog King Or Iron Heinrich
Fairy tales, beyond their value as charming escapes into realms of fantasy and wonder, are meant to
teach children morals and demonstrate to them the traits they need to successfully function in society.
These tales are sustained, generation after generation, in our collective consciousness as literary
manifestations of our values. But to what extent is this consciousness collective? Are these morals
consistent globally or do they vary from culture to culture?According to Bruno Bettelheim, morals are
universal and fairy tales are the ultimate means of teaching them. However, in Harold and the Purple

The frog demonstrates courage when continuing to pursue the princess despite her disgust. Because
these morals are universal, children can benefit from internalizing them because they do not risk
limiting their ability to transcend cultural barriers. Psychologist Bruno Bettelheim sees fairy tales as
the best means of teaching and guiding children through development and to the set of values they
need to function in society. He states: fairy stories represent in imaginative form what the process of
healthy human development consists of...the tales make such development attractive for the child to
engage in (Bettelheim 12). Of course we want children to embody the aforementioned core virtues,
but what about the other culturally or period specific values that are be conveyed in fairy tales? Is the
concept of healthy human development agreed upon across all cultures? Bettelheim either ignores the
existence of non universal morals or believes that all morals are universal. In stark contrast to
Bettelheim s implication of moral universalism, Harold and the Purple Crayon and The Frog King or
Iron Heinrich demonstrate vastly divergent conceptions of the values of loyalty, seniority, and respect
that are reflective of each tale s culture of origin. The Frog King or Iron Heinrich is a Grimm Brother s
fable with Germanic origins in which hierarchy and loyalty are emphasized in two relationships. First,

Love And Lust In Play By Play
Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to commonly
be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often confused, and
even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just comes knocking on
one s door and one will know when it does, but they don t realize that for love to occur a relationship
has must be worked out. Love is described by some as fireworks, tingles, and butterflies in the
stomach; but it is lust that can cause these things to happen, and it is these that mark only the
beginning of a relationship. After a while, these feelings die out, and this is when the honeymoon
period is over; it is from this point on that the relationship will either end or get stronger and
eventually lead to true love.
Lust is the main idea behind the poem Play By Play by Joan Murray. The tale being told is of older
women well past their sixties admiring much younger men playing softball from up on a terrace over

Electronic Medical Records ( Emr ) Implementation
In recent years with huge advances in information technology and health, the initiatives of electronic
medical records (EMR) implementation has become an on going and difficult process. The
computerization of medical practice is considered to be a new standard for medicine practice. With the
promotion of EMR s, the support for the implementation is supported by the government, people who
request higher quality care, and health organizations. This review will focus on the implementation
process of EMRs within the hospital setting. It is known that the paper system has disadvantages that
concerns the utilization of patient information in a quick, accessible, and organized manner. The
implementation of a hospital wide EMR however, is a extremely complex matter that involves a range
of external skills needed to successfully implement the system (Boonstra, 2014). A hospital can not
only rely on it s internal resources or staff to carry out the implementation of a EMR system. With
concerns of quality and costs, the long term plan of an EMR systems could save billions of dollars
from faster data communication, increase d patient care with fewer errors, and in addition to
improving the quality of health care. From the articles and studies that this review will be referring to,
a similar pattern of implementation process reoccurs. None of the articles share the same stages of the
implementation process, however I have concluded that the main theme withinthese articles

The Importance Of Language Creation
How are languages created? Why are there so many different languages being created? Some
languages are constantly undergoing changes, and some languages disappear fairly quickly. What
determines when a language will emerge and how it will change over time? While the key factor for
language creation is the need for communication on a small scale among individuals, the pressures for
language change mainly come from societal changes on a broader scale.
The need for communication in a small community is the most important factor for and directly
contributes to language creation. It is worthwhile to consider how human language started to develop
initially. When our ape like ancestors started to live together in communities instead of scattering
themselves in forests, a desperate need for communication emerged. Besides the fact that they needed
feet to walk and hands to hunt for food, they also needed some special mechanism to understand and
communicate with others who lived and worked in the same community: a language (Cen 16 17). Fast
forward in history, new languages are often created under the same spirit. One of the best pieces of
evidence we have for how language emerges is in deaf communities: homesign and village sign
language are two of the examples. Homesign system, a self created system of communication used by
deaf individuals who have not been exposed to a sign language (Brentari 364), is created uniformly
among deaf individuals who are not exposed to any spoken or sign language as a means of
communicating with their parents and other family members. With that being said, homesign is not
simply a system of co speaking gestures, gestures that accompany speech, because homesigners are
not modeling their gestures after the co speech gestures their hearing parents provide (Brentari 366).
Rather, homesign shows certain linguistic properties called the resilient properties of language
because they can be developed without input from a language model (Brentari 366). Constituent
structure, for example, developed among homesigners from the United States, China, and Turkey
despite the fact that each homesigner is developing his or her system alone (Brentari 367). The
resilient properties, it is fair to

Fashion And The World Of Fashion
The world of fashion is always changing and new trends are always emerging. The ways by which
trends and fashion news are communicated to the public has evolved as technology advances. Before
television and the internet, it was difficult for designers, photographers, and fashion brands alike to
spread word about the latest in fashion to a large mass of people. With the help of modern technology,
fashion has made its mark in the world by appearing on television networks, online blogs, social
media, and digital magazines. In the past, fashion was viewed as something to which only privileged
people could have access. It was hard to keep up with trends because it was not mass communicated in
the same way that it is today. Fashion shows were the best way to see the newest styles and collections
from high end designers. However, it is difficult do attend these shows because the tickets go to
celebrities, socialites, and other prominent people in the fashion world. Harvard professor, Jeannie
Suk, notes that the growing ease of travel and communication has made the dissemination of fashion
much easier (Harvard Magazine). Another way fashion was accessible was through magazines. The
most common way people stayed caught up with fashion was through magazines because they were
affordable and up to date. Suk also employs that the mass production of newspapers and other forms
of publication has helped fashion trends spread rapidly (Harvard Magazine). Nowadays, technology is

is that those who lived within the Canal Zone, a five mile wide strip on either side of the canal,
belonging to the U.S. and were either U.S. citizens or were West Indians working for the canal.
Furthermore, the canal is 48 miles long and with a width of 10 miles, with the U.S. government

John Latane wrote his article The Effects of the Panama Canal on Our Relations with Latin America in

canal has, in the first place, rendered inevitable the adoption of a policy of naval supremacy in the
Caribbean Sea, and, in the second place, it has led to the formulation of new political policies to be

control of canal routes, ability to acquire naval bases in the area, set up satellites, and requires
governments to be constitutional and have the consent of its citizens. The scope the Panama Canal
goes beyond just the simple control of a waterway. By having the canal, the U.S. was inserting greater

Brad Paisley and Country Music Essay
When country music began in America, there were no professional musicians. The typical musician
sang only to entertain himself, his family or at local events. There is evidence of square dance like
events as far back as the 1830s (with origins in European country dancing). At first, most country
music was either sung by itself or played on a lone fiddle or banjo. A good fiddler was a very popular
person and was often asked to perform at events ranging from weddings to cattle drives. There was no
concerted effort to preserve the songs played, but the songs that people loved lasted as they were

In other types of country music you might hear the accordion, the harmonica, the piano, washboards
or drums which didn t become popular till the 1960‘s but are used a lot in today‘s bands. Country
music began in music styles brought over by the European settlers. In medieval times, storytelling was
a tradition that allowed history to be recorded when few were able to read and write. When the first
British settlers came to America, they brought this tradition with them, along with songs they had
learned in Europe. The people who settled in the Appalachian Mountains and the West did not have an
easy life and their music was their only outlet. While country music began with ballads (a narrative
that is sung) and songs of the British Isles, it changed in content and personality as it grew in America.
The British songs were objective, often resembling gruesome stories. They had many themes of the
supernatural, avenging spirits, loves found and lost, and violent happenings. In America, the songs
became very subjective and personal, downplayed the supernatural, and, in songs of crimes,
emphasized the evil acts while minimizing the gore. When the songs had to do with love gone bad, the
American s ballad removed the violence and gruesomeness. The change may have been due to the
philosophy of the Southern lifestyle. Another characteristic of the American ballad is the addition of
moral ending to songs.

Piper Alpha Failure
Piper Alpha was an oil rig that was constructed for Occidental group to drill for oil in one of the most
dangerous environments in the world the North Sea. Piper Alpha went operational in 1976 and began
to extract oil from the ocean floor, this process brought oil, gas and water to the station where oil was
separated from gas and water. Next the gas was cooled to remove the gas condensate liquid.
Condensates are pumped back into the oil and the mixture travels to the shore refinery. Excess gas is

The Potential for Subversion Denied in Sacre de Printemps
Pina Bausch s Sacre de Printemps is a performance that communicates the story of a ritual and human
sacrifice. The performance begins with a large group of women dancing around a red cloth. Their
movements are frantic, sharp, and aggressive and they both move in unison and break off into canon.
Later on in the piece, a group of men join the women and they dance in separate groups, come
together and form circles, and finally break off into pairs. When the men enter the performance, a
ritual begins that involves the selection of one female for sacrificial purposes. The men select this
woman, she changes into a red dress, and all the members of the cast look on as she dances until she
falls to the ground dead. Throughout the piece, there are instances of subversion and instances of
conformity to traditional gender roles in dance. The performance as a whole at times challenges
traditional expectations of women and at others conforms to them. The movement and costumes
convey initial potential for the subversion of male dominance that ends up confirming and upholding
traditional roles and expectations of gender in dance. The dancers movements throughout the
performance seem to challenge and uphold gender binaries at the same time. At the beginning, when
only female dancers are present their movements are agentive, strong, quick, and athletic
characteristics not usually allowed for female dancers. Their movements are similar to the wild and

The Impact Of The Salem Witch Trials
The Salem Witch Hunt
Introduction
The Salem Witch Trials is a term that is used to refer to a series of different witchcraft cases that were
taken to the local magistrates of a region known as Salem that happened to be considered as a part of
the Massachusetts Bay colony in the 17th Century (Roach and Rosenthal 925). Additionally, it is
important to note that the Salem Witch Trials have been considered to be amongst some of the darkest
periods in the American trial history. The reason why the trails were considered to be amongst the
worst trials in the American history is brought out by the fact that over two hundred individuals were
taken to court and collectively accused as witches (Baker 34). The end of the trials saw a total of ...

It is important to note that in the 17th century, people from Massachusetts were exposed to a kind of
fear that was linked to the Devil and being constantly portrayed as always finding for all possible
ways to infiltrate and interfere with Christianity in the American society (Clark and Aronson 401). In
connection to this, it is important to understand that the Salem community was one of the strongly
religious communities living that lived in near isolation and to some extent, in its own New World
where the sense of fearing the devil had been made a part of the society. The fear that the community
living in this area had was triggered when Tituba, one of the accused witches went on to confess that
she was working for the devil (Martin and Bascle 70). The confession that was made led to the
development of hysteria and panic in the region making the region to devote their efforts to a massive
witch hunt. In this, it is important to note that despite there being some contributing factors in the
witch hunt, the confession that was made by Tituba is always considered to be the main reason why
the Salem Witch Trial came to being. During the trial period, the Massachusetts Bay colonists had

My Mother And My Family
I remember my mother and my aunties saying when I was growing up that our generation was too
much premature in certain domain of life and that their times it was different. It goes without saying
that I started paying attention to the environment and the people around me and noticed that the
phenomenon of boyfriend and girlfriend is so vividly emphasize by the TV, in cartoon that every 12
years old girls were discussing about the last night they passed with their love one. Adding to that, the
idea of Globalization that advocates a interdependent world, contribute to the share and the spread of
behaviors that normally did not exist in some countries. Nowadays, having a boyfriend and a
girlfriend is totally normal and for the one who are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Impact of Electronic Media on Cognitive Development of...
Impact of Electronic Media on Cognitive Development of Children There have been many changes in
the technological scene in the last few years. This has prompted the argument on what people stand to
benefit from these advancements. This is why there have been many studies and researches that are all
intended to show how the electronic media assists in learning amongst children. However, there has
been little attention as to what the electronic media does to the same children. The electronic media
has become a favorite amongst the learners and in particular children. It is imperative to note that the
learning process is not passive. This is because the children do not just heed to the instructions and
assume that anything is learnt. The process of learning is active and cognitive. Therefore, the
environment under which a child is in has a significant influence on the learning process. It is vivid
from this argument that the media has a significant role in the shaping of the children. Electronic
media is very beneficial in the learning process but it is imperative that there are regulations because it
has a dominant role in cognitive development of children. Even at the most tender of ages, children
are already active in the use of the media. The television is the main media that the children are
exposed to at this early age. It may seem that the children do not understand anything in the
televisions and could lead to some disputing the idea of its involvement in

The Discovery Of The World War II
As it is known, World War II went on between 1939 and 1945. Many would think that the export and
production of oil would decrease, but the exact opposite happened. During World War II Egypt was
close to almost doubling its output of oil despite the conflicts that were going on around the globe.
Along with the great production and output of oil from Egypt, after World War II the success of oil
discovery continued. The first post war exploration success came in 1946 when Anglo Egyptian
Oilfields Ltd. in partnership with Socony Vacuum oil Co., struck oil in a wildcat well at Sudr, on the
east coast of the Sinai Peninsula (Middle East Reservoir Review 23). This well soon proved to be
crucial in the next two years after the war, it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, when drilling began in these areas the tests wells that were set in place came down and
sunk. This was a setback for the companies who had started drilling, but soon after the failed attempts
new technology and equipment was used in the field that later proved to be a great new method of
producing excellent results when exploring for oil. Time went on and companies swarmed Suez and
the Sinai Peninsula in hopes of being successful and striking oil. The going went well for three years
after World War II, once 1948 came around there was changes coming that would impact the oil
industry of Egypt. The Egyptian Government passed a new law in the year of 1948. As taken from the
article Middle East Reservoir Review the law stated, This prohibited exports of crude oil, allowing
only the products refined in Egyptian plants to be sold abroad (23). This impacted all companies who
were drilling in Egypt at the time especially those who were international companies, one of those
companies being Shell. Any oil that was produced by a non Egyptian seller was not allowed; therefore
only oil that was produced from Egyptian plants was viable for exportation. When this new law was
imposed, Shell was quickly to react as they asked the Egyptian government to allow the company to
expand the refinery they had in Suez from which they were producing at the moment, all so the
company could have more production power in order to meet the needs of the rate of

Formal (Conventional) Assessments
According to the Glossary of Education Reform, 2014, formal assessments are organized, techniques
of testing learners that are utilized to ascertain how well students have learned the information that is
being taught in the classroom. Formal assessments present a method to distinguish what the learner
has understood. (Glossary of Education Reform, 2014)
Each formal assessment has identical expectations for all of the learners, additionally the assessment
has specialized criteria used for scoring and interpretation. The principal objective of formative

According to the Glossary of Education Reform, 2014, criterion referenced assessments are
constructed to measure a learners performance versus an established set of predetermined criteria or
learning standards; written descriptions of expectations for students at a specific stage of their
education. In elementary and secondary education, criterion referenced tests are utilized to evaluate
whether students have learned a specific body of knowledge or acquired a specific proficiency set, for
instance, the curriculum taught in a course, academic program, or content area. (Glossary of Education
Reform, 2014)

of questions accurately, will pass the test, meet the expected standards, or be considered proficient. On
a criterion referenced test, every student undertaking the exam could hypothetically fail if they don t
meet the expected standard; on the other hand, every learner could earn the highest possible score.

Character Analysis Of Dorian Gray And The Picture Of...
Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray, and the player from Doki Doki Literature Club are both
the protagonist of their stories and share a similar personality trait The Two Face. The Two Face is a
character that expresses two different sides to their personality one that they keep hidden and the one
that they show to others. Dorian s Two Face personality is the split of his physical body, which does
not age and allows Dorian to do what he wants in his society, and his painting, which changes form to
reflect Dorian s sinful acts; meanwhile the Player s Two Face personality share the same body, that of
the character who is written to forget the strange or unnerving events that happens within the game,
and the person playing the game, who will most likely remember the events for a long time. Both
Dorian and the player get what they want without much refusal from the other character. For instance,
in The Picture of Dorian Gray, Basil, when wanting to paint Dorian s picture without Lord Henry
staying in the room, Dorian begs Basil to let Lord Henry stay, to which Basil agrees, adding Dorian s
whims are laws to everybody, except himself (Wilde, 19). This hints at the early whims of Basil giving
in to and seeing the good side of Dorian, but it is more of Dorian wanting Lord Henry to stay with him
to influence him of his ideology of only liking things for the beauty, not the substance, since Lord
Henry gave him a bit of advice earlier in the confrontation of the three men;

Research Paper On Aaron Akamu
I would without a doubt choose the head of the Social Studies department at my school to speak as a
part of Gonzaga s Presidential Speaker Series, Mr. Aaron Akamu. I was always a stickler to the motto,
age does not defy maturity, rather experience. This led me to further appreciate and admire Mr. Akamu
because regardless of his young age, his life experiences led him to the mature individual that he is
now small Hawaiian up bringing, world traveler, and dropped out of college. Yes, many would
question how an individual who dropped out of college could inspire any one, but it is why he dropped
out that made all the difference. Coming from a small, schoolhouse educated community, Aaron
Akamu was industrious and diligent enough throughout his

Seven Years War Benefits
The colonist were the pioneers of America, although our ancestors may have originated from Great
Britain it was us who endured the struggle, the loss, the fight it took to form a society here. When
Britain entered the Seven Year War they weren t thinking of the benefits it could bring the colonist. In
fact! Although we are apart of the British Empire; Britain didn t do as little as consult the colonist if
this would be a war of interest to us. It is only when convenient for Great Britain that the American
colonies are considered British.
The Seven Years War was fought with the benefits it would bring Great Britain in mind. And now the
colonist are expected to pay for the extravagant cost. This is ridiculous! Imposing ludicrous taxes on

This assessment will look at the Principles and Functions of Management. Which mentions there is a
difference between what a manager should do and what they actually do? According to many writers
observation. Subsequently, I will comment by usage of my own knowledge of management theories
and concepts. Further more, it is based on an experience and press stuffs. Due to main discussions, my
assessment can be divided into following paragraph:
I. Introduction In this order I will define:
What is a manager?
Why do we need the management?
Theories management: X and Y
Levels of management
II. Presentation
In this case I am going to explain:

These things will determine how will be the organization if they have a good management in
organizing. The junior managers are likely to spend their time doing an operational job, however do
not know if it is their exact role; therefore, depending on it and the size of the unit, a greater or lesser
proportion of their time will be spent on supervision, training and involvement with others managers
in the organization. To follow and do exactly what they should, they need to keep up to date by attend
training sessions or on a quality assurance committee or have regular briefing meetings with their line
manager. As can be seen, what their actually do is not different at all but they concern with each
others. Although, they should not spend their time on these activities much because it wastes their
time which can be use for managing their teams, direct it to get the best result. This case can be seen
in the negative view that they are all doing differently from the actual role, it could change the
structure of the organization leads to the policies to develop could affect the organization. The middle
managers will have much less of an operational role and will spend most of the time on management.
Organizing, controlling and planning are the main elements of the work, despite the real main part of
their job are supervision. According to their present

The main difference between the federal budget and the state and local budgets is the issue of a monetary deficit, in which expenditures in the budget exceeds revenues that were estimated. State and local governments are required to balance their budgets. The federal government is allowed to borrow money to meet its obligations and have a deficit. The federal government collects the most tax revenue, but state and local governments have a greater range of revenue options for funding their budgets. The federal government relies mainly on income taxes, capital gains and Social Security taxes. State and local governments collect sales taxes, taxes on fuel, property taxes and fees from special licenses and permits. Also, many state and local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next largest portion at almost 10% of the budget is allotted to Criminal Justice. In the state of Georgia we have 159 state funded prisons that house over 57,000 inmates (Ga Prison Fact Sheet). This also includes over 13,000 state employees that run these facilities (AJC Prison). Each inmate takes approximately $51 a day. This includes housing, meals and general day to day activities (Ga Prison Fact Sheet). Forth largest in the Georgia budget is for Debt Services. Debt services include the payments of the principal and interest of any general or long term obligation that the state has accrued. This amount is over $64 million in 2012. Lastly, the fifth largest budget allocation is for transportation. Transportation encompasses road repair, improving the efficiency of the movement of goods, construction of new roads and Highways and reducing congestion within the state. Along with these services, the salaries and benefits of their employees are figured into this section of the budget (Georgia Budget site). Figure 3: Local Budget (Cobb County Budget). • 3. Overview of the War of the Rif The Rif Army The war of the Rif, also known as the second Moroccan War, was fought from 1920 to 1926. Spain, France and the Moroccan Berbers, of the Rif s mountain region, had joined forces to take control and divide the country of Morocco into even parts. The reason behind this was because they wanted power, like most imperializing countries strive for. What the invading force did not know was that this was not going to be an easy task. The Rifs, the indigenous tribes of Morocco had joined forces to fight this super power using guerrilla warfare that devastated the Spanish and French forces. Led by Abd al Karim, the Rifs defeated the Spanish on their initial invasion and took control of large amounts of European weapons (Pletcher, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the Spanish army had more than 140,000 soldiers on ground, they were no match for the highly skilled Rifian army. Eventually the Spanish reservists had to call for assistance from the Spanish army of Africa to aid them in this conflict. The Spanish army began to train with the French army on combat tactics and procedures in which they eventually adopted, thus the Spanish Legion was established in 1920 under the command of General Francisco Franco. As their numbers grew larger, so did their reputation for being extremely ruthless, as they led a large number of offensive operations, ravaging and devastating the country of Morocco. The War During the course of the war, the Spanish army in northern Morocco was defeated by the Rif army in July of 1921. This day is now known as the Disaster of Annual . 8,000 soldiers and officers were reported killed in action or had disappeared out of an initial total of 20,000 soldiers. The Spanish were starting to be pushed back over the following five years due to the evolving tactics that the Rif army was using against Spain. As the Rif army pushed east, they had captured over 130 Spanish military forts. Towards the end of 1921, Spain had lost all of the territory they had gained during the initial invasion in 1909. The remaining 14,000 Spanish soldiers fell back to one of the last remaining forts in eastern Morocco Melilla which happened to be their largest military fort in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Victorian Norms In Bram Stoker Developing the inside versus outside tensions between England and Eastern Europe, Bram Stoker challenges Victorian social norms. This tension is particularly evident when understanding the spread of vampirism to be an invasion of England. Although this invasion is fantastical and not realistic, its targets the legitimate Victorian fear of invasion. As an island nation close to other significant European powers, England was able to escape many years of land invasions, but always had to remain wary of the threat of a naval invasion. This fear of invasion is realized when Dracula launches a small scale invasion of England. He enters by boat and proceeds to terrorize England through its women. This idea of subliminally addressing the fears and desires of England is effective because Stoker masks them in fantasy. Furthermore, this is effective because individuals in a culture act out certain unconscious or repressed needs, or express in an overt and symbolic fashion certain latent motives which they must give expression to, but cannot face openly (Cawelti, 11). Because this novel is a fantasy, Stoker is able to challenge the social norms of the period within a popular work. Therefore, aided by fantasy, Bram Stoker uses the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures to challenge Victorian ideals and reveal the changing nature of gender roles and sexuality in British society. The commentary on Victorian ideals stems from the differences between England and Transylvania. While England was characterized by Protestantism, education, technological innovation, and Victorian culture, Transylvania was entirely different with a dated technology and a balance between Catholicism and more superstitious beliefs. These distinctly different cultures initially collide as Harker travels to visit Count Dracula. As Harker moves further to the East, the mood shifts from unfamiliarity to more evil and depressive. This is evident as he describes the darkness of his surroundings as the road was cut through the pine woods that seemed in the darkness to be closing down us, great masses of greyness produced a peculiarly weird and solemn effect (Stoker, 9). This unfamiliarity and anxiety in Harker illustrates that he is entirely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The opera values flexibility, and has tailored their business model to allow for adjustments in both the size of the opera and fundraising projects. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slide 3: The distribution of authority and decision making differs between the opera and the symphony. The opera, as an adhocracy, is headed by Ms. Ewers, who reports to the Board of Trustees. Ms. Ewers makes most of the financial and fund raising decisions, as evidenced by her ability to increase the Opera s annual budget from $1.5 million to $5 million. Subordinates have some decision making authority within their respective roles. For instance, below Ms. Ewers is the Director of Operations, who is responsible for overseeing and leading numerous department directors. These department directors are in charge of the smaller units and have some decision making power and authority. Ms. Ewers designated such duties as the technical and artistic facets of opera production, music administration, and community education to these subordinate groups. This is Adhocracy culture is what differentiates the opera organization. An adhocracy culture allows employees to be empowered with some authority and decision making. The hierarchy of power eventually leads back to Ms. Ewers and the Board of Trustees; however, the department directors are the ones who are primarily responsible for their department. • 7. Personal Criminological Theory Personal Criminological theory To prevent crime, it is imperative that the law enforcement agencies and scholars examine why people commit crime. A number of theories have emerged and many still continue to be explored in exclusion and in combination to seek the best solutions that can ultimately reduce the types and the levels of crime. One such theory that is still being explored is social disorganization theory. According to this theory people s tendency to take part in criminal activities is largely determined by the neighborhood where they are brought up in especially if conditions favorable to crime and delinquency prevail in such places. When communities becomes incapable of realizing common goals and solve problems that its residents face, there is a high likelihood that its residents will engage in criminal activities (Sampson Grove, 1989). Some of the problems that are likely to increase incidences of crime in neighborhoods when communities fail to address them are poverty, residential mobility, ethnic heterogeneity, and weak social networks. They decrease a neighborhood s capacity to control the behavior of people in public. Neighborhood s ecological conditions shape crime rates over and above the characteristics of individual residents. Communities that have been invaded by businesses and industry cease to function effectively as a means of social control. Their traditional norms and standards eventually weaken and disappear. New Journalism utilized research and fiction like writing methods to explore topics on events that occurred in the sixties and seventies. Joan used New Journalism techniques in her writing by using imagery to make a connection with the reader and convey morality. She first presents examples then builds up her essay to define what being immoral is. She uses the definition and her example to close the essay and bring the reader back to the purpose of the passage, to inform the reader of her opinion on morality. She uses morbid, vivid imagery to shock the reader and make them more vulnerable so they will accept her claim. It is important to note Joan Didion s background because it helps the reader understand that On Morality consists of ideas that she commonly includes in each of her ... • 9. The Invention Of The Modern World In almost every scientific discipline, complex, specialised instrumentation has been considered important, if not integral to scientific development. As the scientific developed and professionalised, instrumentation integrated yet further into the social routine of formal laboratory work and, arguably, became endemic within the fabric of everyday late industrial life1. This state of affairs has persisted since at least the late nineteenth century2. In some cases, instrumentation has almost subsumed the individual scientist within historical narrative. It is impossible to imagine classic depictions of the great myth of Galileo without the obligatory appearance of at least one of his telescopes3, or a sketch of Newton without his refracting prism. Celebration of material apparatus has been an enduring theme, particularly in more poplar depictions of the process of scientific progress. Today, the seemingly incomprehensibly complex microscope or (now orbital) telescope are still instantly recognisable, as visual shorthand for the sharpest points within the material armoury of the scientist. It is therefore undeniable that from the genesis of Western modernity in the sixteenth century there has been a near obsession with developing, enhancing and portraying devices of observation, measurement and quantification. Yet the literary examination and incorporation of scientific instruments into narrative and displays of physical heritage has been a convoluted and (at times) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Prince And Niccolo Machiavelli s The Republic The Republic is a Socratic dialogue written by Plato that is widely considered to be one of the most influential and well known works in philosophy and political theory. The Republic is largely focused on defining and explaining the concept of justice through both a individual man and through the perfectly just city. This ideal city is known as the Republic and throughout the work, there is much debate and discussion over how the city should function and be run to create this perfectly just environment. Throughout the dialogue, it is acknowledged that the republic is an imagined city that doesn t exist anywhere on earth . (Glaucon 274) Along with The Republic there have been many other philosophic texts that attempt to create the model society or leader. In contrast to this style, The Prince written by Niccolo Machiavelli is centered around how to maintain or take control of a kingdom and it describes politics as he believes it exists in reality and not in one s imagination. The Prince is well known for being a kind of counter to Plato s Republic. The most notable and obvious clash between the two writing can be found in Machiavelli s criticisms of what he refers to as imagined republics . One can be certain that Plato would have responded to Machiavelli s criticisms in a brilliant show of wit, however Plato died in 347 B.C. and The Prince was not published until 1532. Even though, we understand the struggle of fitting, we, as humans still persecute others for not being similar to us. All in all, the exclusion is a form of bullying. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley exemplifies this phenomena of human behavior, when she shows the maltreatment that Frankenstein s monster is given for his unattractive physical features and what he does to terminate his isolation. Victor Frankenstein engulfed in the dedication of creating a god like image of himself creates a monster. Upon its creation, the monster s entire perception of the world was around Victor Frankenstein resembling an infant perceiving its surroundings through its parents. Victor was the monster s father . Before the great depression, the widely accepted economic policy which was implemented and practiced around the world was called Natural Economics. Natural Economics was a fiscal policy that embodied the idea that the economy would eventually take care of itself and run freely without the government s influence. In circumstances; such as war, Keynesians economic policy provides a near perfect solution for boosting an economy. However, without a war to force an increase in demand, an increase in government spending would snowball into a business cycle of aggregate demand problems. Aggregate Demand is the total demand for goods and services within a market and consists of four main components; investment, consumption, government spending and net exports. These coincide directly with Keynesian s economic fiscal policy. For boosting aggregate demand is the primary focus and supposed key to Keynesians fiscal policy solution. Since aggregate demand coincides directly with Keynesian s economic policy, all of the policy s long term problems become aggregate demand problems. With Keynes policy s increase in government spending comes an initial boost in consumer spending which then boosts aggregate demand. Businesses increase supply and expand to meet this boosted demand. However once the fiscal stimulus package runs out, the once increased aggregate demand begins to decrease. The federal reserve begins to then print more money in order to compensate for the recently depleted fiscal package in order to maintain the aggregate demand levels. It was predicted that there would be an increase in the percentage of correct intensity discriminations as the number of trials increased because a roving standard was used which allowed for context coding. Participants were given an intensity discrimination task where two tones of different intensities were presented. Participants were asked to indicate which was louder. Results showed that there was no improvement among any of the 6 trials, thus concluding that context coding did not take place within 6 trials. Introduction Ones discriminatory ability in audition is considered to be the ability to detect a change in a given auditory stimulus whenever one of its dimensions is increased or decreased. One topic in keen interest of research is the role of memory in discriminating sound attributes. A dimension often studied is frequency. To investigate the ability to discriminate frequency, two tones are presented to a listener with an inter stimulus interval. The listener then indicates which tone is higher in pitch. Changes in interval length is used to investigate the role of memory when discriminating sounds attributes. Anderson (1914) studied inter stimulus intervals up to 4 seconds in relation to discrimination and concluded that all intervals tested are equally favourable, with a slight deterioration in the 4 second ... Lowe, the court decided on January 13, 2015, that Lowe was guilty of endangering the welfare of a child under Penal Law § 260.10(1). On June 28, 2014, after a firefighter could not immediately revive the defendant on a public street while his two children in his care, one of the children being supervised by a stranger on the street and the other missing according to the defendant himself, it was finally established from an EMT technician called to the scene that Lowe was highly intoxicated under the influence of a controlled substance. Both the EMT technician and firefighter smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the defendant; however, when they reported it the firefighter only mentioned that the defendant seemed under the influence of a controlled substance. For this reason, Lowe tried to fight the case by using that as a Misdemeanor Complaint but it failed to be converted into one, because the information of the eyewitnesses, using either terminology, was facially sufficient. Next in order, in People v. Nesbitt, the court decided on September 17, 2015, that the defendant was guilty after a deponent witnessed him enter an informants car without permission while carrying a backpack with an unlicensed imitation firearm/air pistol, pellets for an air pistol, and a bullet proof vest inside. The air pistol apparently looked, felt, and weighed the same as a real pistol with a propelling force of air and not orange rubber stop on the tip. The space race was eventually resolved in an agreement in 1972. Before this agreement, each sent satellites in attempts to try to out do the other. Satellites eventually turned to manned spacecrafts, which then turned to men on the moon. Now there is the International Space Station, which is a permanently crewed and cooperative laboratory in space. All of this started with a little friendly competition between the USSR and the United States. However, despite the fun space typically is, the government should not spend any more time up in space and should spend its time trying to correct the plummeting economy and other problems here on Earth. My school has fully adopted the guided reading program within the past 2 years. A guided reading library and books for professional development have been purchased, but very little training has occurred. The journey of learning how to successfully teach Reading using Jan Richardson s approach to guided reading has been a challenge to say the least. Scheduling has been the largest obstacle I have faced in implementing guided reading in my classroom. I have spent this summer researching and reading about guided reading in an attempt to gain further understanding of the process and the outcomes before the next school year begins. Guided reading is a method of teaching reading that be used with every reader, whether they are just beginning to read, struggling to read, or are able to read independently (Iaquinta, 2006). According to Anita Iaquinta, there are three fundamental purposes for using guided reading. The first fundamental purpose is to meet all of the ranges of instructional needs of every student in the classroom. The second fundamental purpose for guided reading is that it enables students to significantly build and expand their reading abilities. The final fundamental purpose of guided reading is for students to learn how to read increasingly difficult texts (Iaquinta, 2006). Guided reading lessons are completed in small groups ... Sadly, many of our elderly live in Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF). The transition from living in their own homes, to living in a LTCF, can be a traumatic experience. Poor adaptation to a LTCF may cause depression, malnutrition and significantly reduce the lifespan of the elder. Thus, it is imperative, that nurse s recognize this promptly. According to Agnes and Guralnik (2008) adaptation is a gradual change in behavior to conform to the prevailing cultural pattern (p. 15). She goes on to say that adaptation to a LTCF is the process by which someone copes with the transition into the life of being a LTCF client (p.159). How the elders view their situation also plays a major role on their adaptation to the LTCF. When someone views the environment in an absolute negative way, they are going to struggle to become adapted. On the other hand, if they look at the positives of the environment they may adapt more appropriately. According to Sister Callista Roy s theory, adaptation is the process and outcome of individuals and groups, who use conscious awareness, self reflection and choice to create human and environmental integration (Bergland and Kirkevold, 2006, p.686). This theory lends to adaptation of living in a LTCF by examining a key issue, the elders choice. With personal experience in this matter, it seems as if elders who make the decision of moving into a LTCF better adapt to the environment. In my opinion, a lot of how elders adapt to living in a LTCF depends on the choices they make. If they sit around, and think poor pitiful me, they will have a much harder time adapting to their new environment. If the elder becomes engaged in their new environment, they will adapt more efficiently. • 30. The Importance Of Language Creation How are languages created? Why are there so many different languages being created? Some languages are constantly undergoing changes, and some languages disappear fairly quickly. What determines when a language will emerge and how it will change over time? While the key factor for language creation is the need for communication on a small scale among individuals, the pressures for language change mainly come from societal changes on a broader scale. The need for communication in a small community is the most important factor for and directly contributes to language creation. It is worthwhile to consider how human language started to develop initially. When our ape like ancestors started to live together in communities instead of scattering themselves in forests, a desperate need for communication emerged. Besides the fact that they needed feet to walk and hands to hunt for food, they also needed some special mechanism to understand and communicate with others who lived and worked in the same community: a language (Cen 16 17). Fast forward in history, new languages are often created under the same spirit. One of the best pieces of evidence we have for how language emerges is in deaf communities: homesign and village sign language are two of the examples. Homesign system, a self created system of communication used by deaf individuals who have not been exposed to a sign language (Brentari 364), is created uniformly among deaf individuals who are not exposed to any spoken or sign language as a means of communicating with their parents and other family members. With that being said, homesign is not simply a system of co speaking gestures, gestures that accompany speech, because homesigners are not modeling their gestures after the co speech gestures their hearing parents provide (Brentari 366). Rather, homesign shows certain linguistic properties called the resilient properties of language because they can be developed without input from a language model (Brentari 366). Constituent structure, for example, developed among homesigners from the United States, China, and Turkey despite the fact that each homesigner is developing his or her system alone (Brentari 367). When the first British settlers came to America, they brought this tradition with them, along with songs they had learned in Europe. The people who settled in the Appalachian Mountains and the West did not have an easy life and their music was their only outlet. While country music began with ballads (a narrative that is sung) and songs of the British Isles, it changed in content and personality as it grew in America. The British songs were objective, often resembling gruesome stories. They had many themes of the supernatural, avenging spirits, loves found and lost, and violent happenings. In America, the songs became very subjective and personal, downplayed the supernatural, and, in songs of crimes, emphasized the evil acts while minimizing the gore. When the songs had to do with love gone bad, the American s ballad removed the violence and gruesomeness. The change may have been due to the philosophy of the Southern lifestyle. Another characteristic of the American ballad is the addition of moral ending to songs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The performance begins with a large group of women dancing around a red cloth. Their movements are frantic, sharp, and aggressive and they both move in unison and break off into canon. Later on in the piece, a group of men join the women and they dance in separate groups, come together and form circles, and finally break off into pairs. When the men enter the performance, a ritual begins that involves the selection of one female for sacrificial purposes. The men select this woman, she changes into a red dress, and all the members of the cast look on as she dances until she falls to the ground dead. Throughout the piece, there are instances of subversion and instances of conformity to traditional gender roles in dance. The performance as a whole at times challenges traditional expectations of women and at others conforms to them.
