Honesty Services Fraud Case Study
The case of former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell and his wife, Maureen McDonnell was an
important game changer in politics. They were indicted by the Federal Government on bribery
charges. These charges were due to the acceptance of more than $170,000 in loans, gifts, and other
benefits by a Virginia businessman, Jonnie Williams, while the Governor was in office. Jonnie
Williams was the chief executive officer of Star Scientific, which is a Virginia based company that
developed a nutritional supplement made from anatabine, a compound found in tobacco. This
nutritional supplement called Anatabloc. William claimed that Anatabloc had healing powers and
wanted to continue the research on anatabine. Therefore, William wanted the Governor s ... Show

The charges against the Governor were conspiracy to commit honest services fraud (18 U. S.
C.§1343) and conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act extortion (§1951(a)). As to Governor spouse, Maureen
McDonnell, she was indicted on obstructing official proceedings (§1512(c)(2)) and similar charges as
the Governor. The bribery statute states that a crime is committed when a public official or person
selected to be a public official, directly or indirectly, or corruptly demand, receive, accept to receive or
accept anything of value in return for being influenced in the performance of any official act. §201(b)
(2). Therefore, the Government was required to prove that Governor McDonnell agreed to commit an
official act in exchange for the gifts and loans from Williams. The Government alleged that the
Governor had committed more than five official acts by arranging meetings, hosting events,
promoting Star Scientific s products and contacting other government officials to encourage the
research of anatabine in state universities. The Governor claimed that doing this kind of meetings or
introductions was common and that he did it literally thousands of times as Governor. The District
Court told the jury that in order to convict Governor McDonnell, it must find that he agreed to accept
a thing of value in exchange for official action . The Governor requested the court to instruct the jury
to further explain the meaning of official act but the District Court declined the proposed instruction to
the jury. The jury convicted the Governor on the honest services fraud and Hobbs Act extortion
charges but cleared him on the false statement charges. After the verdict, the Governor filed a motion
to vacate the convictions claiming the jury instructions were legally erroneous, but the District Court
denied the motion. Governor McDonnell appealed his convictions to

Types And Scope Of Event
Type and Scope of Event Before planning a successful event, ask why is this event happening in the
first place? Does the event have a purpose? I love planning events, especially ones that raise money
for charities. Hosting a charity ball is a fantastic fundraiser because it will give supporters a fun and
glamourous night out, with a hint of elegance. Adults can dress up, enjoy delicious food, sip some
wine, and dance to some groovy music. As an event planner, I have been selected to plan a charity ball
to raise money for the St. Jude s Children s Research Hospital. The goal of this event is to raise money
for such an important cause and bring hope in finding a cure for cancer. Charity for a Cure will be one
of the most talked about upcoming events in the Southern Illinois Area.
Capabilities
Charity for a Cure has the capability to be very successful and memorable. Many charity events
usually have more than one goal. The goals of this event are not only to raise money for an important
cause, but also to create a night that guests will never forget. Creating a memorable event does not
begin when people arrive and leave the event. Most often, the experience of an event begins when
someone hears about the event for the very first time. Charity for a Cure has the capability to raise at
least $25,000 for St. Jude s. Guests will pay for their tables, which will include an entry fee and
dinner. Most of the money raised will come from both auctions, as well as the support of local

Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IEP)
Students with intellectual disabilities present a distinctive educational challenge and need assistance
achieving their academic needs (Luckasson Schalock, 2013). To support students to meet their
academic needs, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires each student with an
intellectual disability to have an individualized education program (Gartin Murdick, 2005). During
this development, the individualized education program (IEP) team must consider assistive technology
(AT) during the drafting of each student s IEP. Assistive technology in special education services is
identified as a potential effective intervention strategy to aid students to achieve their educational

The Deaths And Causes Of The Black Death
The Black Death is a deadly disease that arrived in Europe by sea October 1347. It was 12 Genoese
trading ships that docked at the Sicilian port of a Messina after their long travels through the Black
Sea. When the people who gathered at the dock was met with a horrific accident. Many people one the
crew was dead and the people who were alive was very ill. They weren t able to keep food down
because of the pain they were enduring, also overcoming a fever. But the weird thing was that they
were covered in mysterious black books that had blood and puss coming from them. By the time they
ordered for the ships to be taking away from the docks it was already too late so over the next five
years the Black Death would kill more than 20 million people in Europe and that s almost ⅓ of Europe
s population. Indeed, even before the Death ships maneuvered into port at Messina, numerous
Europeans had heard bits of gossip about an Awesome Epidemic that was cutting a lethal way over the
exchange courses of the Close and Far East. (Ahead of schedule in the 1340s, the illness had struck
China, India, Persia, Syria and Egypt.) Be that as it may, they were hardly prepared for the ghastly
reality of the Dark Demise. In men and ladies alike, the Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio expressed,
toward the start of the disease, certain swellings, either on the crotch or under the armpits... waxed to
the bigness of a typical apple, others to the measure of an egg, some more and some less, and

Abusive Relationships In The Stranger
In The Stranger, the author exposes the audience to many unhealthy relationships that may or may not
be identified. In part one of The Stranger the novel introduces Salamano, Meursault s neighbor, and
his dog who is in an abusive relationship some may consider physical and verbal. This type of
relationship is most remembered throughout the book because it is physical abuse but is it so different
from the relationship Meursault had with his deceased mother? Some readers argue that no harm was
inflicted onto the mother by Meursault, therefore, cannot be considered an abusive relationship but
neglect is still on the table for a factor in their connection. The correlation between Salamano and his
dog can be compared to Meursault and his mother in many ways but each link has different details.
The relationship Salamano has with his dog is more loving than what Meursault had with his mother.
The relationship Salamano had with his dog is very similar to the relationship Meursault had with his
mother. They are similar in the sense that both are considered abusive relationships due to the
treatment they gave to their loved ones. In the novel, it states Then he beats the dog and swears at it. ...
Then they both stand there on the sidewalk and stare at each other, the dog in terror, the man in hatred.
(27). This shows how Salamano treated his dog every day for eight years which caused the dog to
cower in fear whenever around him. Meursault also did not have the best relationship with

Executive Compensation
EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION
1. HOW IS IT DETERMINED?
Executive compensation generally consists of a mix of four components:
Annual Base Salary
Annual Incentive or bonus plans tied to short term performance measures.
Long Term Incentives consisting in a mix of restricted stocks, stocks options and other long term
performance plans tied to shareholder return or financial performance.
Benefits plans.
As a rule of thumb, the base salary constitutes 30% of total compensation, the annual incentive
another 20%, the benefits about 10% and long term incentives or the wealth creation portion of the
compensation about 40%. Indeed, before the financial crisis, there was a lot of board attention to

Executives can trade for entirely legitimate reasons, such as to raise money to meet a tax bill or simply
to diversify. But of course they must avoid trading on nonpublic information, and that can lead to
sticky situations, since executives do possess just such information much of the time.
Regulatory efforts to find a way around this conundrum and allow executives to trade, a Wall Street
Journal analysis suggests, are so flawed they have left a confusing landscape that can both raise
suspicions about trades that are innocent, and provide cover for others that are less so.
Trading by specific insiders, such as employees, is commonly permitted as long as it does not rely on
material information not in the public domain. However most jurisdictions require such trading be
reported so that these can be monitored. In the United States and several other jurisdictions, trading
conducted by corporate officers, key employees, directors, or significant shareholders must be
reported to the regulator or publicly disclosed, usually within a few business days of the trade.

Proposals that shareholders should have a greater direct say over managerial remuneration have been a

Human Rights Act 1998 Essay
It has been recognised by both the Prison Act and ECTHR that the prison authorities have the power
to make rules and restrict prisoners, for instance in s47(1) of Prison Act 1952 it was stated that the
right to make laws for the management and control of prisons and prisoners were given to the
governor. In relation to the Human Rights Act 1998 s3(1) , which states primary and subordinate
legislation must be effectively followed and compatible with convention rights the governor. So
therefore the governor should make laws for management that goes in line with what is stated in the
human rights act.

In the policy in relation to the written correspondence it says that prisoners do not need the governor
permission to send or receive letter from the media, and attached to the written correspondence are the
rules both the prisoners and the prison official must abide by. That exact policy goes in line with
Article 8 of the ECHR, so it should not be violated. In relation to what said above, it was ruled by
Lord Camden in Entick v Carrington that, the state may do nothing but that which is expressly
authorised by law, while the individual may do anything but that which is forbidden by law as it goes
along with the principle of the rule of law. Another can be seen in the case of McCallum v. United
Kingdom, the prisoner complained that the letter sent to him by the press and legal advisers was kept
and seized by the prison official and it stated in the PSI 49/2011 that prisoners are able write and
receive letters, that policy was violated, not only was the PSI 49/2011 violated, the ECTHR said it was

Gas Vs Diesel Research Paper
There are various differences between gas and diesel. The
(mpg) miles per gallon differences of gas and diesel cars, mpg
differences of gas and diesel pickups, different fuel prices, how much
diesel saves you, how much gas saves you, the maintenance of gas
and diesel engines, repairs and fees, and taxes.
Differences between the two can be seen directly with the mpg
averages. The average mpg of a diesel car is 28 miles per gallon,
and the average mpg of a gas car is 25 mpg. Also the average mpg
of a diesel pickup is 19 mpg, and the average mpg of a gas pickup is
around 24 mpg
Other differences include the energy density of diesel and gas. Diesel
has a higher energy density than gasoline. One gallon of diesel

NCAA protests that schools or sport teams with a nickname or logo considered racially or ethnically

Essay on Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi
Primo Levi, in his novel Survival in Auschwitz (2008), illustrates the atrocities inflicted upon the
prisoners of the concentration camp by the Schutzstaffel, through dehumanization. Levi describes the
denial of humanness constantly forced upon the prisoners through similes, metaphors, and imagery of
animalistic and mechanistic dehumanization ( Dehumanization ). He makes his readers aware of the
cruel reality in the concentration camp in order to help them examine the psychological effects
dehumanization has not only on those dehumanized, but also on those who dehumanize. He
establishes an earnest and reflective tone with his audience yearning to grasp the reality of genocide.
In Survival in Auschwitz, Primo Levi laments that men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Levi s ability to demonstrate the adversities of their oppression illustrates the dehumanization of the
prisoners. The inmates eat soup while in the camp. When the time comes for them to get their bowls
filled, Levi professes they have an animal hurry to consume their food (Survival 69). This metaphor
suggests the men s animalistic behavior due to their severe thirst and hunger. The concept of
dehumanization carried out by the Schutzstaffel primarily targets the prisoners identity and
community ( Dehumanization ). Each man s struggle to survive in Auschwitz depends on their
principal focus of themselves. They can no longer elicit compassion or other moral responses , every
man endures on his own, and they cannot think of others. Ironically, waiting around to pass time
satisfies the inmates; [they] are always happy to wait (Survival 104). Levi rationalizes their content
when Alex tells them to wait and says they have the complete obtuse inertia of spiders in old webs
(Survival 104). He compares his Kommando to spiders, as they sit lifelessly, trapped in an abandoned
labyrinth. The action of waiting brings the men solace, for once, as time moves smoothly and they
have no duties to complete (Survival 104). Throughout the novel, Levi also provides imagery of the
animalistic form of dehumanization through his diction. As the men eat in their bunks, Levi states that
David snarls (Survival 75). The action or sound of snarling is typically given

Shortcomings In America During The 18th And 19th Century
In America during the 18th and 19th century, Americans sought a better life style. More money, more
jobs, and better places to settle provided opportunities for the ideal American Way of life. One of the
downfalls of this time period was that America developed at the expense of other social groups. Some
groups of people were denied basic rights, as the American culture thrived providing more
opportunities for Americans. Changes in the government after the Civil War, Westward expansion, and
the new labor union provided better opportunities for Americans, while creating many shortcomings to
other social groups. The reconstruction era was a time period during the 18th century where control
switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party after the Civil War. President Johnson, a
democrat from the north, pushed for a more conservative and lenient route for the defeated southern
states to rejoin the union. On the other hand, the Congress, which consisted of republicans, aimed at
helping freed slaves gain more opportunities in America. The Freedmen s Bureau was one of the
regulations put into law that enabled African Americans to seek a better life by helping freed people
gain a better education and reunite with their families. Other laws like the Black codes and labor
contracts were then put into place by the president to keep freed slaves impoverished and inferior to
the white American Citizen. Providing help to Freed slaves was problematic to many white American

Interpretation Of The Golden Rule Approach
Question 1
(i) According to literal rule, Jane has given a flick knife to her supervisor so she would be guilty of
offence. But her intention of giving a flick knife to her supervisor was to punish a youth member. So
literal rule is not applicable because it gives us an absurd result. So we will apply the golden rule
approach because according to that approach her purpose of act was sensible so she will not be found
guilty of her act.
(ii) According to Fisher v Bell, displaying an old military knife with a spring opening device in his
shop window with a price label is treated as an invitation to treat by Tony, and not an offer. According
to literal approach of statutory interpretation, it is the task of the court to give a statute s words their
literal meanings regardless of whether the result is sensible or not. So, Tony will not be found guilty
by this rule.
(iii) Under the literal rule of statutory interpretation, Fola will be guilty an offence because she has
given a flick knife to another person. There is an ambiguity as she donates the box to a charity shop
without checking the contents of the box. However if we apply the mischief or purposive rule it will
give us the clear intentions of her that her purpose of the act was to donate box of kitchen utensils so
she will not be found guilty.

Desmond Tutu Statement On Oppression
Humanity has always oppressed and discriminated against one another since the beginning of time.
Never at a point in history has everyone been completely equal in their civil rights and treatment.
Whether the discrimination stems from the color of one s skin to their religious beliefs to anything that
separates them from the larger population, a target has been placed upon them for others to attack. In
this paper I will investigate how Desmond Tutu s statement on oppression relates to primary texts that
I viewed during the course of this semester.
As Desmond Tutu stated, If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the
oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse
will not appreciate your neutrality. (1984) This example has been illustrated in human treatment of one
another since the start of recorded history. Those who are viewed as different were persecuted in a
variety of ways such as Perpetua being imprisoned and sentenced to death for her religious beliefs to
that of Martin Luther King Jr. who was murdered due to his advocating of equal rights for all.
Neutrality in situations of injustice helps nobody but the oppressor

Designing The Robotic Arm Is Controlled By A...
In this paper a project is proposed to separate the objects from a set according to their colors. This can
be useful for categorization of the objects which move on a conveyer belt. The proposed method of
categorization is based on color of the object. In this project the system categorization of different
colors. The detection of the particular color is done by a light intensity to frequency converter method.
The robotic arm is controlled by a microcontroller based system which controls DC motor for picking
up the specified color from a moving objects conveyer belt.
In this project we will be using combination of microcontroller, Sensors and mat lab for some
virtualization. When a different combination of objects moving on industrial conveyer belt it s very
difficult or labor consuming to separate the objects based on the color , As machinery is capable to
produce the different color objects at the same time or different machineries produce the different
color objects and dump on the same conveyer belt. At this point of time our project provides value
added service in picking up the objects based on their color for packing or distinguishing.

Principles Of Integrity In Public Administration
There are three ethical principles that are the most important for officials to excel in the field of public
administration. These principles are ranked below from 1 being the most important to 3 being
important. Demonstrate personal integrity (1) There has not been much discussion about the code of
ethics in the past administrations than in Trump Administration. Personal integrity is an asset in today
s time where the political chaos runs the White House and where a hullabaloo takes place every week.
The atmosphere of chaos prevails in the government and society, which causes disruptive governance
to run in every level. In this presidency, there is a sense of aristocracy where the privileged class has
taken over the voice of the people and only depends on those members of Congress who adhere to
integrity to do what is right for the least privilege. Upbringing integrity to the best of one character
brings out courage to overcome obstacles. It is not a secret that if officials who hold high positions and
stand by their own decisions always fear repercussions, but with this administration, they fear
dismissal. For example, the attorney general Saly Yates, who was fired after she defied the president s
executive order banning people from seven Muslim majority countries entering the U.S. (Newsweek,
2017). She decided to stand by her position and she was punished for demonstrating integrity on an
issue that deserves more evaluation for policy implementation. Demonstrating

Argumentative Essay On Forensic Evidence
In 1984, a British geneticist named Alec Jeffreys stumbled upon one of our most important forensic
tools: DNA fingerprinting. Since his eureka moment, the scientific technique has been used
successfully to identify perpetrators of a crime, clarify paternity and exonerate people wrongly
convicted (Jones). DNA evidence, specifically simple mixture, is the most accurate type of forensic
evidence we currently have at our disposal, but even it is not infallible. Other types of forensic
evidence are much less accurate, but unfortunately their use is still permitted in U.S courtrooms.
Jurors may be misled by experts within the courtroom as well. These misconceptions about the
accuracy of forensic science and the field in general lead to many problems in the courtroom. The
most reliable type of forensic evidence is DNA, but it is still not perfect, and the results should be
portrayed that way in court. The reason DNA evidence is so accurate is because it is highly objective.
This objectivity makes it far less likely that an error will be made during the analysis of the DNA
sample. However, errors are still possible. For example, samples may be switched or contaminated
which could give a false result. There are two different kinds of DNA evidence, simple mixture/single
source samples and complex mixture samples. The vast majority of DNA analysis currently involves
samples from a single individual or from a simple mixture of two individuals (such as from a rape kit)

Why Is Gladiator Movie True
The movie Gladiator, released in 2000, was directed by Ridley Scott. It was produced by Douglas
wick, David Franzoni, and Branki Lustig. The three stars were Russell Crowe playing Maximus,
Joaquin Phoenix playing Commodus, and Connie Nielsen playing Lucilla. Gladiator is a one part
movie that won five academy awards.
Maximus decides to retire from the Roman Army after a battle over the germanic tribes. After
Commodus has killed his father the enperor and Maximus family, Maximus is captured and kept as a
slave. He is sold to a man named Proximo who trains him to become a gladiator to get revenge on
Commodus for what he did to his family. Maximus must go to the colosseum and fight his way to
freedom and then kill Commodus. But Maximus earns so much respect from the crowd that now
jealous Commodus decides to fight Maximus in the colosseum himself. Before the fight Commodus
fatally stabs Maximus in the side. Maximus still fights Commodus and ends up killing him, but dies

President Reagan And The President Of The United States
In 1981, a self proclaimed Washington outsider took the oath as President of the United
States of America. The country anxiously awaited to see if Ronald Reagan could keep the
promises he made during the campaign trail; some of the promises he made were, to appoint
the first female Supreme Court Justice and to change the ideology of the court. Reagan, a
staunch republican hoped to sway the court right for the first time in decades. While, he was
able to sway the court, complications from a democratic senate and a lame duck presidency

Light In The Painted Door
In The Painted Door by Sinclair Ross, it is evident that light is used to illustrate the degradation of
Ann s devotion to John as the night approaches and the time spent with Steven, due to John s absence,
lengthens. This is first demonstrated when the setting of a landscape with bitter light (1) is established.
Despite the bitterness, caused by Ann and John s non communicative relationship, the light
exemplifies that Ann retains a secure devotion towards John and is confident that he will return home
no matter what circumstances. Moreover, this is demonstrated when Ann offers to paint the kitchen
wood work... to make the room a lot lighter (2). Although Ann is aware that painting the woodwork is

to feel abandoned and uncertain of the truth behind John s promise. In addition, we notice the
significance of light in Ann and John s relationship when Steven arrives and Ann [lets] him in and

John will return. During her moment of uncertainty, Ann believes that if Steven is able to travel and

The issue of legalizing slots and/or legalized gambling in the State of Maryland is a complex one, and

Naturally, tourists that are vacationing in or around a gambling community typically have a larger than
average amount of cash on hand with them, which in turn makes them profitable robbery victims. If an
out of town guest at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut were to be robbed at gunpoint outside of the
resort, would that crime be attributed to the fact that Connecticut had legalizing gambling, or the
tourism that said legalization resulted in?
Conversely, if an individual has squandered their vacation or gambling budget in the casino, are they
now viewed as potential criminal offenders? Again, it is nearly impossible to conclude whether or not
these types of robberies are due to the casino that is attracting the tourism, or the fact that the
community itself has now become a tourist attraction?
A study conducted by the University of Nevada Reno states that when comparing the before and after
crime rates utilizing the population at risk, the data reveals few consistent trends in crime . In short, it
cannot be proven that by merely constructing a casino or venue where any type of gambling is legal
that it would create these spikes in the crime rate that those who are opposed to legalized gambling
insist would occur as a result, and to believe anything otherwise would be a hasty generalization.
Another benefit of legalizing slots in the State of Maryland would be the restoration of the State s

Tyranny And The Nature Of Rape In Verginia, Lucretia
The tyrannical connection between all the above rape stories relates to the nature of rape. Tyranny, like
rape, is an improper expression of dominance. Aggression is turned inward upon its own society; in
Verginia s story, for example, asks what was the use of safeguarding a city in which one s children
must suffer the horrors they would face had the enemy captured it? (Livy, 3.47). Here, rape is the
perfect symbol of tyranny and the disorder it causes. Following the restoration of order, this
aggression is turned outward, to a proper expression of dominance: conquest. Joshel writes Assured at
home that their wives and children will not be treated as the conquered, these men can go forth [and]
conquer and empire. In Lucretia s story, Brutus further focusses on a tyrant s theft of the Roman man s
dominance by stating the men of Rome, victorious over all their neighbours, had been turned into
drudges and quarry slaves (Livy 1.59). The rape inspires men to regain their dominance. Similarly, the
Sabines rape resolves the insult to Rome, which is ultimately victorious over the Sabines sexually and
politically, restoring their rightful political dominance. Thus, rape acts as a metaphor for Roman
dominance, which during times of chaos is misplaced, but is returned to a proper expression of
dominance when order is restored. Essentially, each rape story uses rape to represent a turning point
between chaos and order, because rape, by its very nature, is a liminal action. Rape

the years, to be an increase in diagnosis of psychiatric issues in children causing medications to be
prescribed. It is a concern if there are more children being misdiagnosed, underdiagnosed, or over
diagnosed. This concern comes from United States having a significant increase in children
psychiatric diagnosis and there are some areas within the United States that have an even higher
diagnosis rate. According to Docksai (2013),
Prescriptions for the antianxiety medications Xanax, Ativan, and Valium saw respective increases of
29%, 36%, and 16% from 2005 through 2009. Prescriptions for Risperdal grew by 45%, and
prescriptions for the anti depressant Cybalta skyrocketed 237%. A of 2011, one of every Eight
Americans, including children and infants, was on a psychiatric medication. (p. 2).
The medications that are being used include anti consultants, stimulants, anti depressants, and mood
stabilizers. These medications can overused or misused due to finding what works for each child. Here
lies a huge ethical dilemma that is very personal to me. According to Parens Johnston (2011),
About one in five adolescents has symptoms of a psychological disorder...both the number of children
diagnosed with a psychological disorder and the number receiving medications have risen
dramatically in recent years....The ethical concerns are numerous and varied, whether these

The Effects of Alcohol on the Body Essay
The Effects of Alcohol on the Body
You are in college, you are at a party, and you are drunk. You, and the people around you, know you
are drunk by your disorientated behavior but do they know what is causing you to act in this manner?
Most likely not. Most people do not think about what the alcohol inside them is doing, the only thing
they are worried about is the buzz that they get from it. Moderate drinking is alright but drinking
excessively can wear out the body. Three important things to know about alcohol are how it enters and
leaves the body, the effects of alcohol, and how the body responds to alcohol.
After the drink is consumed, the alcohol enters the blood stream. After it enters the blood stream it
dissolves in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the alcohol in the alveolar is exhaled, a breathalyzer can detect the blood alcohol content of the
individual. Lastly, the liver takes care of whatever alcohol is left in the body. Alcohol in beverages is
known as ethyl alcohol, more commonly known as ethanol. This ethanol is chemically broken down in
the liver. The enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase, strips electrons from the ethanol to form acetaldehyde.
Another enzyme, aldehyde dehydrogenase, with the help of oxygen, will convert the acetaldehyde into
acetic acid. The acetic acid can be used for to form fatty acids or if further broken down into carbon
dioxide and water.
The rate at which alcohol affects the body is determined by three things: the concentration of the
alcohol, the type of drink, and whether the stomach is full or empty. The higher the concentration the
faster the body absorbs it in the blood. When drinking carbonated beverages it tends to speed up the
rate for the body to absorb the alcohol. Lastly, the more food in the stomach, the more time it takes for
the alcohol to get absorbed. First off, the body responds to alcohol in a series of stages which
correspond to an increase in the blood alcohol content (BAC). Blood alcohol content is the amount of
alcohol that can be found in the bloodstream. The first stage is euphoria, which has a BAC of .03 to
.12 percent. In this stage the person loses their judgment, they may

Summary Of Surprise By Jane Kenyon
Psychoanalysis can be inscribed in many poems subliminally. Authors tend to use psychoanalysis to
solve the concern of a psychological issue or dysfunction problem that they have encountered. It is the
conscious awareness of not knowing what the problem is that gives it so much control of our
destructive behavior. As human beings, we often repress our deepest fears, emotions and experiences
that tend to unfurl in the future beyond our control. Until we can acknowledge and openly admit to
ourselves the cause of this, we will continue to disguise the problems unconsciously. It benefits our
mental state for a certain length of time, but we ultimately suffer from it in the end. In her poem,
Surprise, Jane Kenyon utilizes fear of betrayal, the double and being forced into a regressive state that
creates her fear to be intimate. In the poem, Surprise, Kenyon displays psychoanalysis by revealing
the fear of betrayal through the main characters feelings. The female speaker in the poem unfolds her
repressed feelings about her past experiences that now currently torments her mental state. She
explains the kind suggestions of a man, such as dining together for pancakes and taking a stroll
through a field of mayflowers. To her knowledge he offers her a morning of happiness, and an
opportunity to spend quality time with this man who could possibly become a significant lover. At this
point in the poem, she does not conclude more than a casual date with this man seeing that he only
offers that much to her. She is unaware of his intent to surprise her and this is what causes her fear of
being betrayed. Though this is normally an act of kindness, she receives it as a symbol of deception.
He leads her to believe that he wants to spend time with her, when in reality he is hiding his actual
intent. This subtle dishonesty reveals the repressed feelings she unconsciously has due to past
experiences and therefore twists this kind gesture into a feeling of betrayal. This feeling then provokes
her fear to be intimate with him, or in general. Kenyon establishes the state of the double through the
role of the male character. The male in this poem is presumed as a kind, pleasant fellow who wants to
please this woman and make her

Plato s The Symposium And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Stairway to Immortality Besides being a phenomenal writer and philosopher, it seems Plato had the
gift of foresight as well. At a glance, a Greek novel about love and an ancient Mesopotamian epic
seem to have nothing in common. However, what is interesting to see is that not only do the two share
very similar themes, but one acts as a how to guide for the other. In both novels, Plato s The
Symposium and The Epic of Gilgamesh, the main protagonists deal with the concept of immortality.
In Gilgamesh, the immortality Gilgamesh seeks to obtain is one that is fleeting and material, whereas
Plato discusses the so called right kind of immortality that one finds via pursuing knowledgeable love.
The Symposium shows how one can become immortal by following the correct path of love and
Gilgamesh serves as an example of what happens when one does not follow those rules. Because
Gilgamesh directs his desires toward immortality, but not the kind Diotima describes, he fails his quest
and remains miserable. Gilgamesh directs his desire not to reach the top of Diotima s ladder, which is
to become immortal by loving and spreading wisdom, and because of this, he can never become
immortal. The Symposium revolves around a Greek party made up of various men throwing around
their views on love, building up to height of the evening by a speech from Socrates. Socrates knows
the true way to obtain love, and tells of a tale between him and his mentor, Diotima. Through Diotima,
Socrates is able to

history is largely related to the rapidity of change the military forces, and the art and science of

the period known as the Industrial Revolution, and more recently in the nuclear and information ages.

The French Revolution And Napoleonic Wars
The history of Latin American has a bloody past filled with war and hardship. The struggle for
independence plays a key role in the history of Latin America and understanding the development that
came post independence. Latin America has struggled with debt and dependence on foreign countries.
Events that occur in Latin America are often a result of things happening in the Western Hemisphere.
Much of Latin America s fight for independence was fueled by war. Latin America continued to be
greatly affected by events that occurred in the western hemisphere. The French Revolution and
Napoleonic Wars were major factors in igniting Latin America s movement for independence. The
French Revolution occurred during 1789 1799 in attempt to challenge the monarchial political
structure. The French Revolution was fought to pursue Enlightenment ideals to promote popular
sovereignty.
The ideologies of the French Revolution were used to justify the overtaking of other European kings
and the establishment of republics. The military was aggressive in establishing French control in other
countries. The French Revolution was eventually led by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. The
Napoleonic Wars occurred during 1799 1815 as a result of the French Revolution. England was the

Pastoral Elegy; Alternating Iambic Pentameter and Trimeter, Irregular Rhyme
Dead friend? Check.
Shepherds? Check.
That s it, folks. That s all you need to know about this poem to conclude that Lycidas is a pastoral
elegy.
Great. But wait, what s a pastoral elegy? Awesome question. It s a type of poem invented by the Greek
speaking Sicilian poet Theocritus in the third century BCE. There are two parts to this poem: the elegy
part, and the pastoral part.
Milton covers the elegy angle by making this poem about his dead friend Edward King. An elegy is a
poem mourning the death of someone, who is almost always a fellow poet. Done.
As for the pastoral portion, well a pastoral poem is one that idealizes shepherds and country life, often
presenting it as timeless and easy going. In the poem, Lycidas and the speaker are shepherds who,
before Lycidas death, had a merry old time steering their sheep around the countryside.
These two types of poetry are combined in the pastoral elegy, a genre in which the speaker of the
poem memorializes a fellow poet using a number of features of the pastoral poem. In Lycidas, the
speaker frequently refers to an idyllic past in which he and

Final Report Real Time Interactive Group Project
Final Report Real Time Interactive group project
Introduction
For this report the process of creating the game Chased by Snakes as a member of Danger Noodle will
be discussed.
Methodology
For this project it was decided by the group to use a flat management structure, and to follow a system
akin to free development. This method meant that none of the group was the project manager and
instead the thing keeping people on track was their self motivation to complete the project. To aid with
completing the project at the start of the project a list of work was set out from the requirements, and
then each member of the group picked the tasks that they could complete for the year. The main
reason such a free and unstructured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another problem is that this method requires everyone to have high motivation if they want to
complete the project to a high standard and a as the group is small a few unmotivated people can bring
the whole project down. The group did have motivation problems during the middle of the project
with some group members not producing any work. The motivation could have been reduced if the
work been assigned one at a time instead of all at the start allowing people to focus on one thing at a
time and seeing the list of work get smaller.
A problem with using this flat management with free development is that there are not a lot of
examples to follow with many companies using agile. It seems that this flat management is new to the
games industry and so the group might make some mistakes that others can learn from in the future
who want to use the same structure. There are however some companies that do, valve uses a flat

Social Class Variations In U. S. Family Life
Social class variations in U.S. family life starts with categories of people who share a common
economic position in the unequal society in which they live in (Strong and Cohen 82). Classes indicate
economic indicators such as wealth and income earned. These show what people have such as bank
accounts, houses, stocks, and retirement plans, but eliminates their debt such as credit cards, loans,
and mortgages. Social class is known to have structural and cultural dimensions. Structurally, social
class shows our occupations that we depend on for earnings, the power it presents us with, and the
opportunities we get to experience. Culturally, social class follows people s beliefs, attitudes, values,
and motivations that separate them from other classes. People are grouped together in classes because
of their similar incomes, amounts of wealth, degrees of occupation status, and years of education.
Social class is experienced differently by people throughout life. The four classes that are used in the
commonly used model are upper, middle, working, and lower classes. Upper classes represents about
one percent of U.S. families and usually can be born into their fortunes or live on yearly incomes.
Upper classes incomes can range from two million to hundreds of dollars. These people are
professionals, corporate executives, and managers who tend to have degrees from expensive
universities. They will live in private homes in separate communities away from others. Some people
will separate themselves among the upper classes based on how they earn their money and how long
they have lived their lives this way. Middle classes are considered the largest class among U.S.
families. Occupations in this class are found to be highly paid professionals such as lawyers, doctors,
and engineers. They have annual incomes that can reach from hundreds to thousands of dollars.
Middle class people are typically college educated, but may not have entered the same expensive

Essay Laurent Clerc Pioneer Teacher
Laurent Clerc Pioneer Teacher
1785 1869
Laurent Clerc was born in LaBalme, France, on Dec. 26 1785. His father was Mayor of the town and
the family could boast of a long line of magistrates in the Clerc lineage. At the age of one, the infant
fell from a kitchen chair by accident into a nearby fireplace. He was burned on one side of his face and
a fever left him totally deaf. He had uncle also named Laurent Clerc, who heard about the school for
the deaf in Paris. When he was twelve years old, his uncle brought him to Paris and took him in the
Royal Institution for the Deaf. In 1816, his eight year as a teacher, an event happened which changed
the course of his life.
He met a young idealist from America, Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, ... Show more content on

At age 84, Laurent Clerc died on July 18, 1869.
History of Laurent Clerc
There are a lot of firsts that Laurent Clerc accomplished. He was the first deaf teacher in America, the
first deaf person to appear before U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C. to talk about establishing public
schools for the deaf, and the first deaf person to get an honorary M.A. degree from Trinity College.
Clerc was born to a prominent family in the village of LaBalme, France. His father was a notary by
profession and a mayor of the village for 34 years. His mother was the daughter of another notary.
Males in Clercs family held the office of Tubelion (a Royal Commissary) in that village for over 300
years. Clercs family believes that he became deaf after falling from his highchair into the kitchen fire,
but he might have been born deaf. His right cheek was burned from the accident hence the name sign
of brushing two fingers across cheek.
Clerc lived through the French Revolution, witnessing Napoleons rise and fall. In fact, he lived in
England for a while to escape from the turmoil.
Clerc had once been considered to help start a school for the deaf in Russia but was passed over
because he was deaf. He agreed to coe to America for only three years for three reasons: 1) to help
organize a new school for the deaf; 2) to be the first experienced teacher; and 3) to teach others how to
teach deaf. However, he married one of his beautiful, dark eyed, dark haired, slender,

Dual Immersion Benefits
The United States is a country built by immigrants who speak more than one language. Being
bilingual has many benefits that vary from traveling with ease all through having a brain that can
multitask faster. In the past decade many schools in California, as well as other states, have started a
program called the dual immersion or something of that nature in which they have a class that is in
another language, usually Spanish, and they teach the kids all the required material in that other
language. The Dual Immersion program is something that should be instated into more schools,
specifically in the bay area, because of the diversity seen here.
The duel immersion program has been shown to benefit the students in numerous ways; just being ...

A solution to these problems would be for the school to have the duel immersion classes do
fundraisers to help get money into their program. These fundraisers/fairs could be cultural events to
help educate the kids of different cultures and communities in the Latin world. This could not only
benefit the duel immersion classes but anyone that would show up to the fundraiser, as they would be
learning about the culture that the classes chose for that particular fundraisers/fair, with the money the
program makes from this it can afford to contract more teachers to help out, and give these kids the
benefits they deserve. Although it will be time consuming and there might need to be a lot of parents
to help out, the benefits outweigh these small setbacks. Having more teachers can give the program
the chance to have smaller classes in which the teachers can have more one on one with the kids so
that they each get the right amount of attention they need and deserve. More teachers can also mean
that the school can extend the program and give more kids the chance to be accepted into the duel
immersion program giving them a chance to better their education. The duel immersion program can
also have more fieldtrips in which they could

  • 2. Honesty Services Fraud Case Study The case of former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell and his wife, Maureen McDonnell was an important game changer in politics. They were indicted by the Federal Government on bribery charges. These charges were due to the acceptance of more than $170,000 in loans, gifts, and other benefits by a Virginia businessman, Jonnie Williams, while the Governor was in office. Jonnie Williams was the chief executive officer of Star Scientific, which is a Virginia based company that developed a nutritional supplement made from anatabine, a compound found in tobacco. This nutritional supplement called Anatabloc. William claimed that Anatabloc had healing powers and wanted to continue the research on anatabine. Therefore, William wanted the Governor s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The charges against the Governor were conspiracy to commit honest services fraud (18 U. S. C.§1343) and conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act extortion (§1951(a)). As to Governor spouse, Maureen McDonnell, she was indicted on obstructing official proceedings (§1512(c)(2)) and similar charges as the Governor. The bribery statute states that a crime is committed when a public official or person selected to be a public official, directly or indirectly, or corruptly demand, receive, accept to receive or accept anything of value in return for being influenced in the performance of any official act. §201(b) (2). Therefore, the Government was required to prove that Governor McDonnell agreed to commit an official act in exchange for the gifts and loans from Williams. The Government alleged that the Governor had committed more than five official acts by arranging meetings, hosting events, promoting Star Scientific s products and contacting other government officials to encourage the research of anatabine in state universities. The Governor claimed that doing this kind of meetings or introductions was common and that he did it literally thousands of times as Governor. The District Court told the jury that in order to convict Governor McDonnell, it must find that he agreed to accept a thing of value in exchange for official action . The Governor requested the court to instruct the jury to further explain the meaning of official act but the District Court declined the proposed instruction to the jury. The jury convicted the Governor on the honest services fraud and Hobbs Act extortion charges but cleared him on the false statement charges. After the verdict, the Governor filed a motion to vacate the convictions claiming the jury instructions were legally erroneous, but the District Court denied the motion. I love planning events, especially ones that raise money for charities. Hosting a charity ball is a fantastic fundraiser because it will give supporters a fun and glamourous night out, with a hint of elegance. Adults can dress up, enjoy delicious food, sip some wine, and dance to some groovy music. As an event planner, I have been selected to plan a charity ball to raise money for the St. Jude s Children s Research Hospital. The goal of this event is to raise money for such an important cause and bring hope in finding a cure for cancer. Charity for a Cure will be one of the most talked about upcoming events in the Southern Illinois Area. Capabilities Charity for a Cure has the capability to be very successful and memorable. • 6. Abusive Relationships In The Stranger In The Stranger, the author exposes the audience to many unhealthy relationships that may or may not be identified. In part one of The Stranger the novel introduces Salamano, Meursault s neighbor, and his dog who is in an abusive relationship some may consider physical and verbal. This type of relationship is most remembered throughout the book because it is physical abuse but is it so different from the relationship Meursault had with his deceased mother? Some readers argue that no harm was inflicted onto the mother by Meursault, therefore, cannot be considered an abusive relationship but neglect is still on the table for a factor in their connection. The correlation between Salamano and his dog can be compared to Meursault and his mother in many ways but each link has different details. The relationship Salamano has with his dog is more loving than what Meursault had with his mother. The relationship Salamano had with his dog is very similar to the relationship Meursault had with his mother. They are similar in the sense that both are considered abusive relationships due to the treatment they gave to their loved ones. In the novel, it states Then he beats the dog and swears at it. ... Then they both stand there on the sidewalk and stare at each other, the dog in terror, the man in hatred. (27). Regulatory efforts to find a way around this conundrum and allow executives to trade, a Wall Street Journal analysis suggests, are so flawed they have left a confusing landscape that can both raise suspicions about trades that are innocent, and provide cover for others that are less so. Trading by specific insiders, such as employees, is commonly permitted as long as it does not rely on material information not in the public domain. However most jurisdictions require such trading be reported so that these can be monitored. He makes his readers aware of the cruel reality in the concentration camp in order to help them examine the psychological effects dehumanization has not only on those dehumanized, but also on those who dehumanize. When the time comes for them to get their bowls filled, Levi professes they have an animal hurry to consume their food (Survival 69). This metaphor suggests the men s animalistic behavior due to their severe thirst and hunger. The concept of dehumanization carried out by the Schutzstaffel primarily targets the prisoners identity and community ( Dehumanization ). Each man s struggle to survive in Auschwitz depends on their principal focus of themselves. They can no longer elicit compassion or other moral responses , every man endures on his own, and they cannot think of others. Ironically, waiting around to pass time satisfies the inmates; [they] are always happy to wait (Survival 104). Levi rationalizes their content when Alex tells them to wait and says they have the complete obtuse inertia of spiders in old webs (Survival 104). He compares his Kommando to spiders, as they sit lifelessly, trapped in an abandoned labyrinth. The action of waiting brings the men solace, for once, as time moves smoothly and they have no duties to complete (Survival 104). One of the downfalls of this time period was that America developed at the expense of other social groups. Some groups of people were denied basic rights, as the American culture thrived providing more opportunities for Americans. But her intention of giving a flick knife to her supervisor was to punish a youth member. So literal rule is not applicable because it gives us an absurd result. So we will apply the golden rule approach because according to that approach her purpose of act was sensible so she will not be found guilty of her act. (ii) According to Fisher v Bell, displaying an old military knife with a spring opening device in his shop window with a price label is treated as an invitation to treat by Tony, and not an offer. According to literal approach of statutory interpretation, it is the task of the court to give a statute s words their literal meanings regardless of whether the result is sensible or not. Never at a point in history has everyone been completely equal in their civil rights and treatment. Whether the discrimination stems from the color of one s skin to their religious beliefs to anything that separates them from the larger population, a target has been placed upon them for others to attack. In this paper I will investigate how Desmond Tutu s statement on oppression relates to primary texts that I viewed during the course of this semester. As Desmond Tutu stated, If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality. (1984) This example has been illustrated in human treatment of one another since the start of recorded history. Those who are viewed as different were persecuted in a variety of ways such as Perpetua being imprisoned and sentenced to death for her religious beliefs to that of Martin Luther King Jr. who was murdered due to his advocating of equal rights for all. These principles are ranked below from 1 being the most important to 3 being important. Demonstrate personal integrity (1) There has not been much discussion about the code of ethics in the past administrations than in Trump Administration. Personal integrity is an asset in today s time where the political chaos runs the White House and where a hullabaloo takes place every week. The atmosphere of chaos prevails in the government and society, which causes disruptive governance to run in every level. In this presidency, there is a sense of aristocracy where the privileged class has taken over the voice of the people and only depends on those members of Congress who adhere to integrity to do what is right for the least privilege. Upbringing integrity to the best of one character brings out courage to overcome obstacles. It is not a secret that if officials who hold high positions and stand by their own decisions always fear repercussions, but with this administration, they fear dismissal. For example, the attorney general Saly Yates, who was fired after she defied the president s executive order banning people from seven Muslim majority countries entering the U.S. (Newsweek, 2017). • 18. Argumentative Essay On Forensic Evidence In 1984, a British geneticist named Alec Jeffreys stumbled upon one of our most important forensic tools: DNA fingerprinting. Since his eureka moment, the scientific technique has been used successfully to identify perpetrators of a crime, clarify paternity and exonerate people wrongly convicted (Jones). DNA evidence, specifically simple mixture, is the most accurate type of forensic evidence we currently have at our disposal, but even it is not infallible. Other types of forensic evidence are much less accurate, but unfortunately their use is still permitted in U.S courtrooms. Jurors may be misled by experts within the courtroom as well. These misconceptions about the accuracy of forensic science and the field in general lead to many problems in the courtroom. The most reliable type of forensic evidence is DNA, but it is still not perfect, and the results should be portrayed that way in court. The reason DNA evidence is so accurate is because it is highly objective. This objectivity makes it far less likely that an error will be made during the analysis of the DNA sample. However, errors are still possible. For example, samples may be switched or contaminated which could give a false result. There are two different kinds of DNA evidence, simple mixture/single source samples and complex mixture samples. The vast majority of DNA analysis currently involves samples from a single individual or from a simple mixture of two individuals (such as from a rape kit) . . . the ... • 29. Tyranny And The Nature Of Rape In Verginia, Lucretia The tyrannical connection between all the above rape stories relates to the nature of rape. Tyranny, like rape, is an improper expression of dominance. Aggression is turned inward upon its own society; in Verginia s story, for example, asks what was the use of safeguarding a city in which one s children must suffer the horrors they would face had the enemy captured it? (Livy, 3.47). Here, rape is the perfect symbol of tyranny and the disorder it causes. Following the restoration of order, this aggression is turned outward, to a proper expression of dominance: conquest. Joshel writes Assured at home that their wives and children will not be treated as the conquered, these men can go forth [and] conquer and empire. In Lucretia s story, Brutus further focusses on a tyrant s theft of the Roman man s dominance by stating the men of Rome, victorious over all their neighbours, had been turned into drudges and quarry slaves (Livy 1.59). The rape inspires men to regain their dominance. Similarly, the Sabines rape resolves the insult to Rome, which is ultimately victorious over the Sabines sexually and politically, restoring their rightful political dominance. Thus, rape acts as a metaphor for Roman dominance, which during times of chaos is misplaced, but is returned to a proper expression of dominance when order is restored. Essentially, each rape story uses rape to represent a turning point between chaos and order, because rape, by its very nature, is a liminal action. Rape ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Summary Of Surprise By Jane Kenyon Psychoanalysis can be inscribed in many poems subliminally. Authors tend to use psychoanalysis to solve the concern of a psychological issue or dysfunction problem that they have encountered. It is the conscious awareness of not knowing what the problem is that gives it so much control of our destructive behavior. As human beings, we often repress our deepest fears, emotions and experiences that tend to unfurl in the future beyond our control. Until we can acknowledge and openly admit to ourselves the cause of this, we will continue to disguise the problems unconsciously. It benefits our mental state for a certain length of time, but we ultimately suffer from it in the end. In her poem, Surprise, Jane Kenyon utilizes fear of betrayal, the double and being forced into a regressive state that creates her fear to be intimate. In the poem, Surprise, Kenyon displays psychoanalysis by revealing the fear of betrayal through the main characters feelings. The female speaker in the poem unfolds her repressed feelings about her past experiences that now currently torments her mental state. She explains the kind suggestions of a man, such as dining together for pancakes and taking a stroll through a field of mayflowers. To her knowledge he offers her a morning of happiness, and an opportunity to spend quality time with this man who could possibly become a significant lover. At this point in the poem, she does not conclude more than a casual date with this man seeing that he only offers that much to her. She is unaware of his intent to surprise her and this is what causes her fear of being betrayed. Though this is normally an act of kindness, she receives it as a symbol of deception. He leads her to believe that he wants to spend time with her, when in reality he is hiding his actual intent. This subtle dishonesty reveals the repressed feelings she unconsciously has due to past experiences and therefore twists this kind gesture into a feeling of betrayal. This feeling then provokes her fear to be intimate with him, or in general. Kenyon establishes the state of the double through the role of the male character. The male in this poem is presumed as a kind, pleasant fellow who wants to please this woman and make her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Plato s The Symposium And The Epic Of Gilgamesh Stairway to Immortality Besides being a phenomenal writer and philosopher, it seems Plato had the gift of foresight as well. At a glance, a Greek novel about love and an ancient Mesopotamian epic seem to have nothing in common. However, what is interesting to see is that not only do the two share very similar themes, but one acts as a how to guide for the other. In both novels, Plato s The Symposium and The Epic of Gilgamesh, the main protagonists deal with the concept of immortality. In Gilgamesh, the immortality Gilgamesh seeks to obtain is one that is fleeting and material, whereas Plato discusses the so called right kind of immortality that one finds via pursuing knowledgeable love. The Symposium shows how one can become immortal by following the correct path of love and Gilgamesh serves as an example of what happens when one does not follow those rules. Because Gilgamesh directs his desires toward immortality, but not the kind Diotima describes, he fails his quest and remains miserable. Gilgamesh directs his desire not to reach the top of Diotima s ladder, which is to become immortal by loving and spreading wisdom, and because of this, he can never become immortal. The Symposium revolves around a Greek party made up of various men throwing around their views on love, building up to height of the evening by a speech from Socrates. Family Life Social class variations in U.S. family life starts with categories of people who share a common economic position in the unequal society in which they live in (Strong and Cohen 82). Classes indicate economic indicators such as wealth and income earned. These show what people have such as bank accounts, houses, stocks, and retirement plans, but eliminates their debt such as credit cards, loans, and mortgages. Social class is known to have structural and cultural dimensions. Structurally, social class shows our occupations that we depend on for earnings, the power it presents us with, and the opportunities we get to experience. Culturally, social class follows people s beliefs, attitudes, values, and motivations that separate them from other classes. People are grouped together in classes because of their similar incomes, amounts of wealth, degrees of occupation status, and years of education.
