Power Of The High Castle By Philip K. Dick
Austin Horner
December 2nd, 2015
History 102
Dr. Laythe
Power in the New Nation On September 2nd, 1945, World War 2 had finally ended, the allies had
beaten Nazi Germany and Japan to end the war. A Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick recreates
the story of World War 2, Dick recreates the story, in which the United States had lost the war 20 years
ago, and is now occupied with Nazi Germany and Japan. Slavery in the United States is now once
again legal. Power in this new United States with Nazi Germany and Japan, became more power over
the people, power over the environment and power toward one another. One might say that in that new
nation, power is being used toward one another, toward the citizens, the environment and having
people feel powerless. Despite of having being occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan, both major
powers battled back and forth. Both tried to overrule each other in different ways, some tries were
successful others were not. Mr. Tagomi is a high ranking trader in Japanese San Francisco. During the
war, Mr. Tagomi said, I held minor post in District of China...at Hongkew, a settlement of Jews,
interned by Imperial Government for duration...The Nazi minister at Shanghai requested we massacre
the Jews. I recall my superiors answer. It was Such is not in accord with humanitarian considerations.
They rejected the request as barbaric. Although the Nazi minister wanted all the Jews massacred, but
he had no military power to do that, and in the end, the

Ab Isotype Switching Case Study
Before encountering an antigen, a naïve B cell expresses both IgM and IgD on its surface. A single
transcript of VDJ CμCδ is alternatively spliced to yield either the μ or the δ heavy chains.
There is no DNA switch region before the Cδ gene. Switch regions are found in DNA upstream of
each constant region gene (except in the δ chain). Ab isotype switching occurs by recombination
between switch regions (S), with deletion of the intervening DNA, and must occur before functional
transcripts of these genes are made. Isotype switching requires the enzyme AID, which is expressed in
B lymphocytes in response to signals from T cells
These experiments tell us that the CD40L on the surface of activated T cells must bind to the CD40 on
the macrophage surface to activate the macrophages against Pneumocystis jirovecii organisms. ...

The blood group antigens are Carbohydrates from https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK2267/,
that are also found on bacteria in the gut and don t need T cell help to activate B cells.
The other antigens: Tetanus toxoid, typhoid 0 and H, and streptolysin are proteins, which need T cells

to respond to these protein antigens. He also cannot make antibodies against Streptococcus pyogenes,
because the antigenic component of the bacterial capsule is a protein.

Invasive Pneumococcal Disease ( Ipd )
Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is defined as the recovery of an isolate of S. pneumoniae from a
normally sterile site, such as blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), pleural fluid, joint aspirate, pericardial
fluid, or peritoneal fluid [1]. Splenic abscesses are rare in the pediatric population [2]. Early
recognition and intervention are critical due to the high mortality rate associated with delayed
diagnosis [3]. A literature review revealed no case reports of splenic abscesses due to invasive
pneumococcal disease (IPD). Purpura fulminans is a rare complication of IPD. We report a case of
IPD confirmed by blood culture and serotyping in a 15 month old African American female whose
clinical coursewas complicated by splenic abscesses and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Physical and Mental Improvements as an Effect of...
Throughout this whole year, there have been many physical as well as mental improvements that have
come as an effect of physical fitness. For myself, I know that mentally I m a stronger and more agile
when it comes to my thoughts. And physically, I can see that my breathing has improved, and my
stamina is longer.
At the beginning of the year, I knew that I wasn t in the best shape of my life. My breathing was heavy
when I ran, and my lap times were, by far, not the greatest. I could see the room for improvement for
it was a long way ahead of me. As the year started, the everyday workouts became the hardest things.
But while the time progressed, so did my body. The stairs were no challenge, and I was able to run up
and down all of them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The training progressed and I saw a real improvement in myself as I could soon do two, then four laps
without much difficulty. While doing housework at home, I noticed that many of my muscles, such as
my quadriceps and calves. Internally, my lungs have a higher capacity, and my breathing has quieted
down. I felt a calm in my mind for the first time while running. Exercising has really helped me clear
out all of my bad thoughts and I focused on the good things in my day. By doing that, my family, and
myself saw a change in my personality. A happier change.
Since I started running, and exercising in general, I have noticed that my waist has slimed down.
Maybe not so much that its noticeable, but there is a change. My actual weighed has been yo yoing ,
as they say, but overall, I have lost a couple pounds. And I m glad. My body composition had balanced
out, or so I think.
Running was not the only working exercise I have experienced in physical education. The Harvard
Step test, along with running the stairs, and on the rare occasion, working out in the weight training
room helped tone specific muscles on my body. The Harvard Step test, which is basically stepping up
on a stair, or something higher than ground level, and stepping down, and then repeating that action
for three minutes. The exercise really have us a workout and it helped shape my quads and calves in
my legs. Running up and down the stairs also helped those specific muscles, but it was also a great

Mistakes In The Jonbenet Case
There were many mistakes that was done in the Jonbenet case. They did a poor job into protecting the
crime scene. The first responder even asked john and the neighbor to look all over the house for
anything unusual. That is something you are not supposed to do, them looking around the house led to
the body of Jonbenet and destroyed evidence. Former Boulder police chief, Mark Beckner, said that
first off the police officers should have shut down the crime scene immediately and taken statements
from JonBenet s parents. Since the crime occurred on Christmas Day, Beckner said that there were
less people available to get to the scene. It took a long time after the murder, before police managed to
conduct interviews with the Ramsey s, who had by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This horrible event led to making the ransom note, and in a handwriting examination, we found that
the note could have been easily written by Patsy. In which Patsy said she found a two and a half page
ransom note near the spiral staircase that led to the basement, where JonBenét s body would
eventually be found. The ransom note was written in interesting way that it would seem to appear in
one of those classic crime films. The ransom note demanded $118,000 to be given to a foreign faction
by 10 a.m. the next day, which was later found out to be the same amount of John Ramsey s Christmas
bonus from his company. That is why when the police arrived and made John Ramsey and his
neighbor Fleet White to search the house for anything unordinary, John made it straight to the
basement cellar where he immediately found his deceased child. Even though he d been told to leave
everything where he d found it, he decided to pick her up, carried her body upstairs, removed a piece
tape from the child s mouth and placed her down. He even covered her up with a throw blanket,
further destroying vital physical evidence. This would be on purpose if they tend to cover up their
tracks. That is when Arndt, the police to first arrive at the crime

The Trauma Informed Skill At Hamilton Center
Trauma Informed Mastery The Trauma Informed Mastery activities were helpful throughout the
semester working with my clients at Hamilton Center. I utilized the activities that my supervisor and I
discussed were most beneficial towards the client population I was counseling at the time. Many of
my clients suffer from PTSD, Substance Use disorders, or other mood disorders. The majority of my
clients are also middle aged men who politely refused any yoga activities. One client heard the choice,
looked around my small office and shook his head grinning.
Client #1 My first client presented with PTSD from childhood that had led him down a troubled path
causing him great stress and anxiety. The client discussed how he was involved in legal ... Show more

In the prior session, the client detailed his family relationships, legal issues, and discussed how his
father played a role in his life. The activity was selected as a way to get the client to think about
someone important in his life and then later process the information. The client was to listen to my
prompt and imagine opening an envelope with a letter inside. He would open the envelope, read the
letter and visualize the letter for a few moments. After reading the letter he was instructed to explain
who the letter was from and what the letter said. I originally planned this activity thinking that the
client would visualize his father writing him a letter but, I was mistaken. When I processed the
activity, the client discussed how his mother wrote the letter and told him to behave and stay out of
trouble. His mother has been a guiding force for the client throughout his life and the client felt guilty
that she was suffering with cancer while he was locked up for many years. The client, to this day,
cannot visit her until his charges are settled or dropped. Utilizing this activity was a quick and easy
way to assess where the client s thought process was during our session. I was able to gather more
data about his family life and later connect it to his PTSD diagnosis. I consider this activity a success
because I was able to obtain more and better data about the client s life and his current thoughts and
emotions regarding his

emotional dissatisfaction as he states, he was bored with this potion (12). Espada s comparison of
Coca Cola to potion suggests that the people of Puerto Rico are deeply mesmerized by American
products, and that they are incapable of recognizing the copious amounts of goods that Puerto Rico
has to offer to its people. The speaker emphasizes the significance of American culture on the Puerto
Rican citizens and outstandingly illustrates the influences and effects of Americanization. These

In Full Metal Jacket, directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1987 The film opens with military recruits getting

down his pants, or is punished by doing push ups. Pyle can t do a pull up as well, it is shown in the
background of the movie that everyone else can do at least one. This all shows the contrast between
Pyle and the rest of his group. When Pyle is pushed to the capacity in terms of physical beatings after
the soap incident it is clear that he is mentally broken. Pyle had been making progress before this, but
his progress was slower than the others. Being beaten for doing good work is the exact opposite of

The Ugly Duchess Essay
A woman s greatest asset is her beauty ; which has been changed throughout time. The painting, The
Ugly Duchess was portrayed to be beauty during the time, but as time past, opinions of it s beauty has
changed. Beauty can be simply defined as a quality someone or an object presents that gives pleasure
or satisfaction towards the mind. This for example, would be physical appearances or intellectual
values. Celebrities are known for their physical appearances or intellectual values, but Emma Watson
displays both gracefully.Whether someone or an object is beautiful or ugly, the standards for those
terms are constantly changing as society changes. Beauty is a quality that is viewed distinctively from

Should We Extend Equal Consideration Of Interests To Non...
Equality has been a controversial and persistent issue in America s history. From slavery to
segregation, it might seem that now that we have laws outlawing these forms of discrimination, we are
free from all forms of prejudice. While this might seem true, we are actually not. We are too quick to
overlook an issue that affects a great number of us. And by us, I mean all animals. Many humans tend
to have a feeling of superiority over other species of animals. Reasons for this might be because
humans feel as other species are not as intelligent as them or because we cannot communicate
properly to know their interests. This is not justifiable. I will argue that the we should extend equal
consideration of interests to non human animals because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also argue that humans are just superior to other animals because of our intellectual abilities so
they should not have the same considerations of interests. It might be true that most humans are
smarter than other species but that does not make it right to make other animals purposely suffer for
our own enjoyment. Stating that all humans are smarter than any animal is false. For example, Singer
quoted A chimpanzee, dog, or pig, for instance, will have a higher degree of self awareness and a
greater capacity for meaningful relations with others than a severely retarded infant or someone in a
state of advanced senility. Here, Singer provides evidence against the argument stating that animals
can be smarter than humans but that does not make it okay for an infant to be treated to the same
suffering and injustice of a non human animal. This further proves that the real reason for not
extending moral consideration to non human animals is not due to their intelligence but because of
humans believing that they are superior to other animals, which is

Siemens Electric Motor Works
Background: The Electric Motor Works (EMW) was Siemen s primary producer of low wattage
alternating current (A/C) motors, which sales volume was contributed by 80% of standard motors and
20% of customized motors. Although the firm had started to alter their program and had expanded the
business in 1974, they still could not decline the price sufficiently to compete with the lower labour
rate in Eastern Bloc competitors. Instead of mass production, EMW changed their strategy to
manufacture efficiently various customized motors. As a result, they received 90% of orders were for
custom motors whereas standard motors still took around 50% of total annual output in 1987. The firm

Which also allowed the firm to recognise more profitable order. However, they ignored the
opportunity cost when they lost DM550 million in the orders which they abandoned. In addition, there
were 90% of orders from custom motor, about 50% of the total annual output were standard motors.
As the customized order would generate certain amount of cost in order and special components, the
firm should consider whether the profit from custom motors could cover the cost of it. In terms of
profit, the firm accepted DM450 million revenue, which should invest DM50 million in
implementation of new strategy and deducted by total cost. The remained amount was DM38.5
million income profit in 1987.
Using the revenue less variable cost (300.3 million) to know the contribution margin
($237.62/unit), and calculate break even point ($111.2million/$237.62 per unit), it is apparent that the
firm actually sold 1.35% of the break even point. Although the order processing, special components
and annual investment cost a great amount, the new strategy and costing system truly made the firm
profitable.

Forms Of Pop Culture
There are many forms of pop culture seen throughout society. Many people see pop culture in
different forms. Some may see pop culture in a comic book series or on social media platforms. There
are some things that people do not feel should be considered being a part of pop culture. Everything
has a meaning, within the meaning of the object is some form of art seen by others. Pop culture
encompasses a variety of work with different styles of art. Any form of art can be considered being a
part of pop culture. Pop culture itself is a form of art. There are different forms of art when it comes
down to pop culture. Though, there are many forms of art, some people tend to feel that they do not
belong in the pop culture category. Comics at one time were not considered to be a form of art.
According to Douglas Walk, Comic culture couldn t have attracted as many people as it s attracted
(Walk 570). The quote shows that comics were not always as popular as they are now. People would
not have come to fact that comics could possibly be considered as art. People see art in different ways.
Not everyone sees art the same. Pop culture has bought about many ways of seeing different forms art.
For instance, Susan Willis From Inside the Mouse: Work and Play at Disney World shows that Disney
World shows many forms of art throughout the theme park. Disney World itself, if a form of art.

he stops at a toll booth; however, cars pull up behind him, and to each side boxing him in. The
passengers of all 3 vehicles open fire on Sonny resulting in his tragic death. I believe that this scene in
particular helps to embody the movie as a whole due to its tragic and violent nature. For instance,

to set the stage for the subsequent scenes in the movie where the bombing run on Japan occurs. While
I do have to admit that there are an assortment of better scenes in the movie such as the scene where
Danny dies and tells Rafe with his last breath that Rafe will be a father or the ending scene where Rafe

Barlifting Flaws
There are about a million technique flaws that can be exhibited in the snatch, clean, and jerk. And,
unfortunately for coaches and athletes alike, it is common for more than one of these faults to be
displayed in a lifter at the same time. So when someone has multiple technique errors that need to be
fixed, where do you start?
Perhaps it s obvious, but you should not try to fix everything all at once.
Experience has shown that giving a lifter multiple corrections to focus on at once tends to make things
worse. If you re lucky, both things will sort of improve, but not as optimally as if you kept the cue
singular.
This doesn t mean that you can t correct more than one thing in a day (though often that s a good idea,
especially if the fault ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This doesn t just mean the set up on the ground; I have new lifters do a lot of work from the hang, and
achieving the proper set up in these positions is also extremely important.
I believe that lifts done from the hang should look as close as possible positioning wise to those same
points in the full lifts. For example, I see many people try to bend their knees so much that they
protrude past the bar when lowering down into an above the knee hang position. But the fact is, that
position never actually occurs in a full lift the body will instead be hinged over, with shoulders out in
front of the bar, and the knees bent only slightly. If your set up is incorrect whether from the hang or
from the floor, it is much more difficult to reach proper positions during the rest of the lift.
At this point, in someone who came in with multiple technique flaws, the odds are good that they were
deficient in at least one of the above points. My purpose with this post is not to give a complete
description of the entire priority list for error correction in weightlifting, but just to give ideas on
starting points when a lifter displays more than one

Three Day Road
Wandering
Windigo of the Wemistikoshiw The novel Three Day Road can be viewed as an explicit indicator as to
the importance of sustaining cultural identity, and the consequences associated with its absence from
any aspect of human life. The tale provides a salient setting through which this spiritual malfeasance is
brought about, with much of its content consisting of the supremacy of the wemistikoshiw, or white
man, over the Aboriginals in World
War 1. The novel s European setting manifests the primary cause for the spiritual bankruptcy of Elijah

How Did Voltaire Contribute To The Danger Of Despotism
Voltaire
Voltaire was a French philosopher in the eighteen century, a period of free thinkers where freedom of
thought was emerging sufficiently. However, he and others were not academically trained scholars
operating in official institutions of their time. They largely depended on talent and the knowledge they
had acquired in school having come from able families.
On his part, Voltaire greatly defended civil liberties including freedom of religion and right to fair
trial. He went against all odds to ensure social reform despite laws in France for those that were found
to have broken them. He was satirical as he often used his work to criticize church doctrine. On his
part, he failed to advocate for atheism or the overthrow of the French regime ... Show more content on

His mentor John Luke and England s uncertain empiricism were the motives behind his philosophical
views. He was a hypocrite in some manner as his philosophical ideas, and social criticisms were not
original although he portrayed a keen common sense. He contradicted Rousseau s believe that
civilization corrupts man as he believed in progress and the virtues of civilization.
Voltaire significantly took part in fighting for religious liberty. He found the act of people believing in
one religion dangerous as this could expose them to the danger of despotism. He was controversial as
he articulated that existence of two or more religions would generate violence among people.
Undiplomatically, he is said to have fought to an unusual extent to right the wrongs done against
Protestants who had beliefs different to his.
Voltaire did not like Catholic Church institutions as he found them abusive. Eventually, this made
Voltaire engaged in an intense battle against the Catholic Church as he found it skeptical of religious
keenness and the emphasis of human sin. He advised people to take religion as a deterrent and
encouragement towards the good life. Notably, he had invented a saying that if God did not exist, it
would be necessary to invent him. This was controversial as by this he just sought to encourage the
worshiping of

A Comparison Of The February And October Revolution
The February and October revolutions that arose in Russia in 1917 reveals how power can corrupt a
fragile system. Prior to these revolutions, Russia was under the reign of Czar Nicholas II, a leader,
who like future leaders betrayed and inflicted harm to his loyal supporters. Karl Marx first sparked
ideas of revolutions and communism, communism believes in a society where everything is equal and
done according to abilities and needs. The February revolution on February 23 was the start of
corruption in Russia, Supported by huge crowds of striking industrial workers, the protesters clashed

Benefits Of Illegal Immigrants
Since Many years ago immigrants have come to this country for a better life and more opportunities.
Having faced a difficult life in their home country, immigrants want to work for a better future. They
will risk their lives to go to a place where they can get more opportunities and better their life.
Immigrants value the country that allows them to work and improve themselves. Many people think
illegal immigrants should get deported. They think this way because they are afraid immigrants are
going to take over their country and take all of the benefits and jobs that the country offers. On the
other side, I think illegal immigrants should not get deported from the U.S. because they are not a
danger to society and some were brought here as kids. This means they were not aware they were here
illegally. Immigrants are not a danger to society if they live or work with us. In the eyes of their
advocates, they are families and workers, taking the jobs nobody else wants, staying out of trouble,
here only to earn their way to better, safer lives for themselves and their children (Robbins). The
evidence helps to prove the topic by showing how illegal people are not here to hurt others they are
here to make a better future and have a good career. Also they live their life like other citizens. For
example, they work hard and at the end of the day they sit with their families because they know that
value of being in America. This shows immigrants are very responsible and follow rules and know
that if they break them this will affect them terribly. Some people believe that illegal immigrants are
taking jobs but the reality is they are only ẗaking the jobs nobody else wants. For example, they work
in the fields, factories and other jobs that do not pay much but is hard labor. Illegal immigrants come
to this country because they know there are jobs that no one else want to work in. Also if the U.S
deports all the immigrants many jobs will stay empty because Americans will not want to work in
those jobs. If there is no illegal immigrants in these jobs then the US economy will go down. There are
a lot of illegal immigrants who are waiting for a work permit or green card. They wish they had a
green card so they feel safe

Message of Hope in Rap Essay
Message of Hope in Rap
The three year anniversary of Notorious B.I.G s murder is fast approaching and many people still rave
about his music. What made him so special was the connection he had with his listeners. He found
many ways to incorporate his life stories into his music that relates to every other thug growing up in
the streets from New York City to Los Angeles. The perfect example of this is his double CD, Life
after Death where most of his songs are about death and how people deal with it. Its quite ironic how
he sort of predicted his own death in the album but by doing so, it helped his fans and family deal with
his death better. To understand his songs, you have to understand the life he grew up in. Raised in ...

This chorus gives hope to the other struggling people to have faith and not to give up on life because

All Art, Including Music, Is Directly Influenced By The
All art, including music, is directly influenced by the environment in which the artist lives. It is
impossible to create art in a vacuum, unaffected by the society and events surrounding you. The time
period, location, and social changes and innovations can have a direct effect on the art produced.
Political events, especially wars, can have a strong influence on the music and art produced at that
time. For example, music may become more patriotic during a time of war as the composers strive to
publicize their national pride. I will explore this idea through the composer Igor Stravinsky and his
three most famous ballets in terms of music and choreography. Since I have a retrospective
perspective, I will be able to analyze the situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His wide range of locations creates an expansive social and political influence on his works and their
choreography. Similar to many famous composers, Stravinsky did not study music from the time he
was a small child, but studied law and philosophy at St Petersburg University (Taruskin, White).
Throughout the course of his life, Stravinsky composed almost 100 works, ranging in genres. He
began to be commissioned by the Ballet Russes in 1909 and by the following year was asked by Serge
Diaghilev to produce The Firebird (Taruskin, White). The Ballet Russes was a Paris ballet company
run by Serge Diaghilev that was known for its creative and inventive performances. Many people did
not like the Ballet Russes innovative style and chose to watch classic ballet companies instead in order
to continue the classical style that many believed ballet should express. However, Diaghilev was
determined to do something unique with his ballet company and they made their performances
extremely modern (Lockspeiser). The Firebird was the work that set Stravinsky s career on fire, and
allowed his name to become spoken with respect and fame. It premiered at the Paris Opera on June
25, 1910. It may have been fate that this commission was offered to Stravinsky because it is said that
the Ballet Russes originally commissioned another composer for this piece, but that his slow progress

talking to unknown people from different countries and getting to know their good and bad

about herself followed by her work experiences in the different fields. It was great knowing her and I

What Is Lucretius Argument Against Religion
Lucretius, a Roman philosopher, was greatly inspired by the teachings of Epicurus. In Lucretius s
book, On the Nature of Things, he expands on many Epicurean principles and at times even alters
them. Nothing comes from nothing , the first principle that Lucretius endorses, is essential to his
argument for the origin of the world. Using this principle, Lucretius against the accepted Roman
religion by adding the concept that divine intervention is not the root of creation, instead he gives
credit to atoms. These atoms, or beginnings of things, he reasoned, came together to form masses
called bodies. The earth was one such body, and it yielded many bodies within it. This entire process,
governed by nature, is what Lucretius believes created the world and everything in it. However,
Lucretius falls short in his argument against religion by indirectly asserting that nature is in fact a
God. Although Lucretius explicitly states in Book 5 of On the Nature of Things, that the true being
behind the world s beginning, Mother Nature, is not a divine being, the characteristics he assigns her
prove otherwise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, he passionately asserts that the earth herself and Nature [is] the artificer of things . (Lucretius
5. 243 244). Explaining his theory, he articulates that atoms, an integral part of nature, operate under
circumstances in which they swerve a little (2. 219) causing collisions. These collisions led to the
formation of things, both animate and inanimate. In other words, these atoms successfully created the
earth and all the creatures living upon it. In essence, rather than deny the creation of the world by an
unknown force or even by chance, Lucretius simply substitutes the role of the Roman gods with
Nature. Nature, thus, well deserves the name of mother , well deserves the title creator, and well
deserves the title

Absence Of His Father In Booker T Washington
The name Booker T. Washington is often closely associated with prestige and great success as a leader.
However, before he was the man we know of today he came from a life of struggle and constant strife.
Before he became an image of freedom and intelligence he had to endure not only conflicts externally
for the color of his skin, but internally as well as he struggled to live his life accordingly without the
proper guidance of a father. The autobiography Up from Slavery gives us a new perspective as the
narrative tells the story of his life from slavery to becoming one of the founders of Tuskegee Institute.
Yet, a man with his reputation it would be virtually impossible to reach his stature without having
some sort of guidance from mentors. Of course, throughout the narrative Washington acknowledges
many people in his life who he considered to be a father figure , but due to the fact he was the son of a
slave cook and a white man he never knew, there was never a true biological father son relationship in
his life. This begs the question if the lack and absence of his own father shaped his own self
perception, his relationship with others, as well as his leadership style? By analyzing excerpts and
quotes within the literature piece one could conclude that the absence of his father is something
Booker T. Washington has come to terms with thus not placing heavy burden on his life style and
choices.
For example, a specific quote in the text shows how Washington does not put

An Essay on Modernism vs. Traditionalism in The Mayor of Casterbridge
During the first half of the 19th century English society was making the difficult transition from a pre
industrial Britain to ‘modern Victorian times. In agriculture, most of the transition took place around
1846 with the repeal of the corn laws. This allowed foreign grain to be imported into England for the
first time. Consequently, the entire structure and methods of agriculture in Britain were greatly altered.
Much of the action in Thomas Hardy s novel The Mayor of Casterbridge takes place during the years
surrounding 1846. These were the years in which traditionalists took their last stand before being
defeated in the name of progress. The contrasts between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tips for Good Print Design
Student Network Resources Inc. Some factors to consider for good print design are accurate use of
bleeds, edges, cropping, color, and elements of typography. Text should not be cut off or flowing over
into the folding of brochures or the next newsletter columns. Print layout and design elements must
meet in order to produce excellent advertising copy. Bleeding Bleeding occurs when a design element
such as print or an image extends further than the edge of the margins or page. Sometimes this can be
intended for effect, but is viewed as unprofessional if unintentional (Graphic Fetish, 2009). Cropping
Crop marks, cropping is an element used to trim off the unnecessary parts of a picture image, or page.
The crop marks are the cutting lines that are guides to setting areas being cut. Color Schemes Color
can draw or detract from a print design. Using complementary colors in print can give warmth and an
inviting feel to the print or it can bore the audience (Graphic Fetish, 2009). Understanding how to
properly use color is important in reaching an audience or highlighting the capture of an eventful
moment (Wildfire.com, 2012). Typography design refers to how the printed material is laid out. Is the
print copy effective in relaying the message to the audience or does it disrupt or interfere with the
message (Kyrnin, 2012). The lack of proper consideration of such factors will result in unattractive
spacing issues that show up when the design is flattened out or

The 1980 Olympic hockey game between the Soviet Union and the United States known as the
miracle on ice is the most incredible moments in recent American history due to the significance. The
United States was truly an underdog kind of like David and goliath, because no one expected the
United States to win against the soviets. The time in history is also important as the game took place
during the height of the cold war and these two nations that could break into nuclear war at anytime
had to face each other in a hockey game. This rivalry between the two countries transferred on to the
game and the result was amazing, at least for the United States.

of goods and services, and the government. Within these groups, there is a constant flow that
progresses in a circle through all of these groups in order to keep the economy running smoothly. This
system is based on the notion that both consumers and producers need to come together to transact.
However, buyers don t always have the money they need to buy supplies, and sellers don t always
have the money to produce products or provide services. When this occurs, it is important for both

There are several sources that support the issue that recidivism in correctional issues are of real
importance, such as the National Institute of Justice, who believes recidivism is one of the most
fundamental concepts in criminal justice (National Institute of Justice, 2016). The U.S. Department of
Justice and the National Institute of Corrections relate that state sentencing policies have resulted in
historically high rates of offender recidivism with some of the highest incarceration rates in the world
(U.S. Department of Justice, 2016)

  • 2. Power Of The High Castle By Philip K. Dick Austin Horner December 2nd, 2015 History 102 Dr. Laythe Power in the New Nation On September 2nd, 1945, World War 2 had finally ended, the allies had beaten Nazi Germany and Japan to end the war. A Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick recreates the story of World War 2, Dick recreates the story, in which the United States had lost the war 20 years ago, and is now occupied with Nazi Germany and Japan. Slavery in the United States is now once again legal. Power in this new United States with Nazi Germany and Japan, became more power over the people, power over the environment and power toward one another. One might say that in that new nation, power is being used toward one another, toward the citizens, the environment and having people feel powerless. Despite of having being occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan, both major powers battled back and forth. Both tried to overrule each other in different ways, some tries were successful others were not. • 3. Ab Isotype Switching Case Study Before encountering an antigen, a naïve B cell expresses both IgM and IgD on its surface. A single transcript of VDJ CμCδ is alternatively spliced to yield either the μ or the δ heavy chains. There is no DNA switch region before the Cδ gene. Switch regions are found in DNA upstream of each constant region gene (except in the δ chain). Ab isotype switching occurs by recombination between switch regions (S), with deletion of the intervening DNA, and must occur before functional transcripts of these genes are made. Isotype switching requires the enzyme AID, which is expressed in B lymphocytes in response to signals from T cells These experiments tell us that the CD40L on the surface of activated T cells must bind to the CD40 on the macrophage surface to activate the macrophages against Pneumocystis jirovecii organisms. ... Invasive Pneumococcal Disease ( Ipd ) Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is defined as the recovery of an isolate of S. pneumoniae from a normally sterile site, such as blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), pleural fluid, joint aspirate, pericardial fluid, or peritoneal fluid [1]. Splenic abscesses are rare in the pediatric population [2]. Early recognition and intervention are critical due to the high mortality rate associated with delayed diagnosis [3]. A literature review revealed no case reports of splenic abscesses due to invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD). Purpura fulminans is a rare complication of IPD. We report a case of IPD confirmed by blood culture and serotyping in a 15 month old African American female whose clinical coursewas complicated by splenic abscesses and ... Throughout this whole year, there have been many physical as well as mental improvements that have come as an effect of physical fitness. For myself, I know that mentally I m a stronger and more agile when it comes to my thoughts. And physically, I can see that my breathing has improved, and my stamina is longer. At the beginning of the year, I knew that I wasn t in the best shape of my life. My breathing was heavy when I ran, and my lap times were, by far, not the greatest. Having faced a difficult life in their home country, immigrants want to work for a better future. They will risk their lives to go to a place where they can get more opportunities and better their life. Immigrants value the country that allows them to work and improve themselves. Many people think illegal immigrants should get deported. They think this way because they are afraid immigrants are going to take over their country and take all of the benefits and jobs that the country offers. On the other side, I think illegal immigrants should not get deported from the U.S. because they are not a danger to society and some were brought here as kids. This means they were not aware they were here illegally. Immigrants are not a danger to society if they live or work with us. In the eyes of their advocates, they are families and workers, taking the jobs nobody else wants, staying out of trouble, here only to earn their way to better, safer lives for themselves and their children (Robbins). The evidence helps to prove the topic by showing how illegal people are not here to hurt others they are here to make a better future and have a good career. Also they live their life like other citizens. For example, they work hard and at the end of the day they sit with their families because they know that value of being in America. Unless the reader can easily understand and move from one thought to the next, they will have limits to understanding anything they are reading. Providing techniques such as pronoun reference, transitions and parallel structure help Vincenzo Ravina, the author of the article The Teenage Brain achieve coherence. What made him so special was the connection he had with his listeners. He found many ways to incorporate his life stories into his music that relates to every other thug growing up in the streets from New York City to Los Angeles. The perfect example of this is his double CD, Life after Death where most of his songs are about death and how people deal with it. Its quite ironic how he sort of predicted his own death in the album but by doing so, it helped his fans and family deal with his death better. He could deliver the message better then any other person out there, because he is a prime example to all the people that they do have a future. Although he does talk about being rich and leading a good life now that he has the money, he also realized the problems of having money. In his song, Mo Money Mo Problems he talks about how money brings the downs as well as the ups. In the intro of the song, Puff Daddy says how money makes you the perfect target of everyone who is envious and jealous of what you have gained and that if you re not careful of what you do, you can end up D.O.A . It is impossible to create art in a vacuum, unaffected by the society and events surrounding you. The time period, location, and social changes and innovations can have a direct effect on the art produced. Political events, especially wars, can have a strong influence on the music and art produced at that time. For example, music may become more patriotic during a time of war as the composers strive to publicize their national pride. Throughout the course of his life, Stravinsky composed almost 100 works, ranging in genres. He began to be commissioned by the Ballet Russes in 1909 and by the following year was asked by Serge Diaghilev to produce The Firebird (Taruskin, White). The Ballet Russes was a Paris ballet company run by Serge Diaghilev that was known for its creative and inventive performances. Many people did not like the Ballet Russes innovative style and chose to watch classic ballet companies instead in order to continue the classical style that many believed ballet should express. However, Diaghilev was determined to do something unique with his ballet company and they made their performances extremely modern (Lockspeiser). The Firebird was the work that set Stravinsky s career on fire, and allowed his name to become spoken with respect and fame. It premiered at the Paris Opera on June 25, 1910. It may have been fate that this commission was offered to Stravinsky because it is said that the Ballet Russes originally commissioned another composer for this piece, but that his slow progress forced them to offer it to ... In Lucretius s book, On the Nature of Things, he expands on many Epicurean principles and at times even alters them. Nothing comes from nothing , the first principle that Lucretius endorses, is essential to his argument for the origin of the world. Using this principle, Lucretius against the accepted Roman religion by adding the concept that divine intervention is not the root of creation, instead he gives credit to atoms. These atoms, or beginnings of things, he reasoned, came together to form masses called bodies. The earth was one such body, and it yielded many bodies within it. This entire process, governed by nature, is what Lucretius believes created the world and everything in it. However, Lucretius falls short in his argument against religion by indirectly asserting that nature is in fact a God. Although Lucretius explicitly states in Book 5 of On the Nature of Things, that the true being behind the world s beginning, Mother Nature, is not a divine being, the characteristics he assigns her prove otherwise. ... These collisions led to the formation of things, both animate and inanimate. In other words, these atoms successfully created the earth and all the creatures living upon it. • 34. Absence Of His Father In Booker T Washington The name Booker T. Washington is often closely associated with prestige and great success as a leader. However, before he was the man we know of today he came from a life of struggle and constant strife. Before he became an image of freedom and intelligence he had to endure not only conflicts externally for the color of his skin, but internally as well as he struggled to live his life accordingly without the proper guidance of a father. The autobiography Up from Slavery gives us a new perspective as the narrative tells the story of his life from slavery to becoming one of the founders of Tuskegee Institute. Yet, a man with his reputation it would be virtually impossible to reach his stature without having some sort of guidance from mentors. Of course, throughout the narrative Washington acknowledges many people in his life who he considered to be a father figure , but due to the fact he was the son of a slave cook and a white man he never knew, there was never a true biological father son relationship in his life. This begs the question if the lack and absence of his own father shaped his own self perception, his relationship with others, as well as his leadership style? By analyzing excerpts and quotes within the literature piece one could conclude that the absence of his father is something Booker T. Washington has come to terms with thus not placing heavy burden on his life style and choices. For example, a specific quote in the text shows how Washington does not put ... • 37. Tips for Good Print Design Student Network Resources Inc. Some factors to consider for good print design are accurate use of bleeds, edges, cropping, color, and elements of typography. Text should not be cut off or flowing over into the folding of brochures or the next newsletter columns. Print layout and design elements must meet in order to produce excellent advertising copy. Bleeding Bleeding occurs when a design element such as print or an image extends further than the edge of the margins or page. Sometimes this can be intended for effect, but is viewed as unprofessional if unintentional (Graphic Fetish, 2009). Cropping Crop marks, cropping is an element used to trim off the unnecessary parts of a picture image, or page. The crop marks are the cutting lines that are guides to setting areas being cut. Color Schemes Color can draw or detract from a print design. Using complementary colors in print can give warmth and an inviting feel to the print or it can bore the audience (Graphic Fetish, 2009). Understanding how to properly use color is important in reaching an audience or highlighting the capture of an eventful moment (Wildfire.com, 2012). Typography design refers to how the printed material is laid out. Is the print copy effective in relaying the message to the audience or does it disrupt or interfere with the message (Kyrnin, 2012). The lack of proper consideration of such factors will result in unattractive spacing issues that show up when the design is flattened out or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
