Fracking Yay Or Nay
Fracking: Yay or Nay
As we become increasingly technologically complex, humans are becoming more and more reliant
on energy. This energy is used for gasoline, heating and electricity among many others. Acquiring
energy is very important but acquiring this energy in the most environmentally friendly way is even
more important. There are various methods used when obtaining natural gas but one of the most
controversial ways is through the process of hydraulic fracturing. The idea of Hydraulic
fracturing or Fracking dates back to 1866 when inventor Col. E.A.L. Roberts lowered a torpedo to
the bottom of a well, filled the well with water and the detonated the charge. The weight of the
water forced an explosion and oil began to gush out. Modern ... Show more content on

Even though there are negative side effects to the method, the positive effects outweigh the
negative. The method allows people to tap into new drilling method, which has greatly increased
the production level. With the abundance of oil, the gas price has plummeted. In addition, increase
in production of natural oil has increased the employment rate of the people. Besides, the change
to fracking has reduced environmental pollution. Because it improves the air quality there has
been an improvement in the health and mortality of the people. The method of fracking is still
growing and new inventions have been created to make the practice better and safer. Percussion
has been made to ensure the method is safer and more efficient. Until there is a faultless way to
obtain energy, fracking will continue to be a leading

William Edward Burghardt Du Bois Essay
William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, born in 1868, was a scholar, activist, and philosopher, born
into the era of Reconstruction and lynching. Though he accomplished much in his life, Du Bois is
largely known for helping found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
(NAACP) and writing one of the most prominent works in American critical racetheory, The Souls
of Black Folk. Du Bois made it his life s work to contest racismthrough self assertion, humanize
black peopleacross the globe, and find a way to integrate black society and white American
society. Much of his rhetoric focused on double consciousness and the veil, separate but closely
related concepts that Du Bois used to describe the experience of Americans, both black and
white. While Du Bois passed away a mere day before the March on Washington in 1963, his
rhetoric remains vital to anti racist philosophy; for today, Americans live in an age of colorblind
racism. It is a commonly held amongst white Americans belief that all Americans are treated
equally and fairly, often citing the civil rights movements of the 1960 s in which the Voting
Rights Act of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1968 came to be. However, as of 2016, 42% of
black Americans are dissatisfied in regards to how they are treated, while a mere 15% of white
Americans are dissatisfied with the treatment of black Americans.1 Much of Du Bois rhetoric
focused on education; more specifically, how to use the role of institutions,

rvmotwani960@gmail.com ABSTRACT In this paper, a voice guidance system for
autonomous robots is proposed as a project based on microcontroller. The proposed system
consists of a microcontroller and voice recognition software that can recognize a limited number
of voice patterns. The commands of autonomous robots are classified and are organized such
that one voice recognition software can distinguish robot commands under each directory. Thus,
the proposed system can distinguish more voice commands than one voice recognition
processor can. I. INTRODUCTION This Project Describe a robot that can be operated by voice
commands given from user. The project use speech recognition system for giving and
processing voice commands Speech recognition, or speech to text, involves capturing and
digitizing the sound waves, converting them to basic language units or phonemes. It is the
ability of a computer to recognize general, naturally flowing voice from a wide variety of users.
The robot will receive commands from user and do the actions like left, right, back, front etc.
The robot will detect the obstacles, fire and gas using sensor and do the work like if robot detect
obstacle it moves in different direction, if robot detect fire it will stop the fire /buzzer the alarm

The Game Of The Football
It was a cool, beautiful October night, and the air smelled like freshly burned leaves. I just got
done filming the Saydel @ East Marshall game, and boy was it a game! The Saydel Eagles
Football team just defeated East Marshall 21 12 to finish out their season. The game was over,
and all of the players and fans were having a blast celebrating the win. Hands were flying, and
voices were roaring. The football players headed back to the locker room to change. Once they
were done changing, they all loaded the bus, and we started to head back to Saydel High School.
This was an unusual night for me, because I rode the pep bus home rather than riding in the school
van with the coaches. I didn t think too much about it, and I just got on the bus... Show more content

I got my chair, got in my vehicle, and took a deep breath. I could not wait to get home to go to
sleep. I left Saydel High School the same way I always did. I took a left onto 54th Ave and began
to head home. I rolled my window down to get some fresh air rolling through the vehicle. I started
to approach the intersection of 54th Ave and 14th St. I had a green light, so I proceeded at 35
mph. I approached the intersection, looked left, then looked right. The next thing I know, BOOM! I
was struck by a drunk driver.
I woke up the next morning, and I just knew something was wrong. I got up, looked outside and my
beautiful green truck was nowhere to be found. My dad sometimes would take my truck to run
errands on the weekend. I was hoping and praying that s where it was. I opened my door, and heard
both my mom s and dad s voice. I was starting to panic, so I rushed downstairs. I asked mom and
dad where the truck was, and they responded, It s totalled, it s all gone. You were hit by a drunk
driver last night. You re very lucky to still be alive. I rushed to my room and started to cry. My
room felt so hot and humid.
Once I calmed down, I went back downstairs to talk with my family. My dad then explained to
me what exactly happened. You were coming home from the football game, son, and you were
hit by a drunk driver. I got a call at 12:15 in the morning saying my son was just involved in a
serious accident. I rushed there as fast as I could.

Black Guerilla Family Gang Case Study
The Black Guerilla Family gang originated in the California prison systems in the 1960s and 30
years later eventually made its way to the prison systems of Maryland and onto the streets of
Baltimore City and Howard County. This organization is considered among the most powerful
gangs in the state, and has been known for its criminal activities in and outside of correctional
facilities. The Black Guerilla Family gangincreased its strength through numbers as they heavily
recruited during the inflow of criminals as they were being processed into the detention centers and
facilities. It was reported that nearly one third of more than 3,000 identified gang members within
the system were affiliated with the Black Guerrilla Family, and they even... Show more content on

A two year collaborative effort between the state and federal authorities, the Baltimore assistant
state s attorneys and assistant U.S. attorneys, the Drug Enforcement Administration agents and
corrections officials and the city police adopted a networking agenda, to bring this case together.
These different entities knew that in order to gather information on this organization that would
help bring down this criminal empire, advanced technology such as wiretaps, surveillance and
surveillance cameras, informants, cell phone sniffing dogs, body orifice scanners, improved gang
intelligence, adopted new regulations that subject potential employees to expanded background
checks and exhausted countless man hours to target the Black Guerilla Family organization as they
attempted to keep contraband out of the facilities and incarcerate all members of the Black Guerilla
organization. Since the state lacked a racketeering statute, Maryland beefed up its anti gang statute
and had made dismantling gangs a focus, hiring three prosecutors in 2009, who were solely
dedicated to prosecuting gang members.

smuggling cell phones and heroin into the prison for incarcerated members of the powerful Black

Case #1 Webb vs. City of Philadelphia
This case involves Kimberlie Webb and the City of Philadelphia (mainly the police department).
The case was heard by the United States court of appeals, third circuit in 2009.
The suit was filed because Webb believed her religious rights were being decimated against.
Webb is a Muslim woman who servers on the Philadelphia Police Department. Webb asked
permission to wear a headdress that would not cover her face or ears due to her religious beliefs.
She was disciplined for failing to comply with Police Department Directive 78 (which basically
states that all officers must wear a certain uniform and dress in a certain way in order to appear
uniform and unbiased).

Question 3. (a)A pizza company not making any exceptions to its rule that drivers must be clean
shaven could be found discriminatory because this only applies to men since a very small
population of woman grow beards. It could also be found to be discriminatory against African
American men since most of a medical condition that is painful when they shave. (b) Bank does
not allow men to wear earrings. This would also be unfair because it is bias to one sex(gender). (c)
Casino hires men and women as cocktail waiters. Women are required to wear 3 inch heals and
make up, men can wear any dress shoe. This is very discriminatory by making woman wear make
up and 3 inch heals. I couldn t wear 3 inch heals that would kill my feet and I d probably fall over a
bunch. Also requiring woman to wear make up isn t fair either. Men don t have to wear make
up. Some women don t like to wear make up because it clogs the pours on their face causing
breakouts. I don t like wearing make up because I don t like the feeling on my face.

The Best Candidate For The Pizza Hut
I truly believe that I am the best candidate for the Pizza Hut All American Opportunity. After
reading, the flyer that was posted in my classroom, I was strong intrigued by possibility of
forming my competiveness of sports with Pizza Hut. The reason why I feel in love with Pizza Hut
was because of the amazing crust I pick on my pizza. Any pizza company can make a pizza decent,
but Pizza Huttakes time in the crust of amazingness. Personally, I am a fan of the pretzel crust
pizza with the meat lover toppings. Nothing screams more amazing than that. The pizza starts

Optimization Of Water And Nano Fluid
Constructal optimization of water and nano fluid flow for micro channel heat sinks with
rectangular cross section
Abstract
In this paper, three dimensional water and Al2O3 water nano fluid flow and heat transfer is
optimized geometrically using constructal theory. A numerical code based on the finite volume
method and SIMPLER algorithm is developed to solve the governing equations. The code is
carefully validated by comparing numerical predictions with experimental data. In this study we
consider aspect ratio, number of channels in the heat sink and solid fraction factor as degrees of
freedom. Given a specific volume and axial length of the micro channel heat sinks and a fixed
pressure drop, we want to find out the best possible number of channels in the system, and
geometry of each channel that maximizes the global thermal conductance. Furthermore we
investigate the effect of different pressure drops. The results show that the geometric parameters
have a strong effect on the performance of micro channel heat sink. Comparison of the results of
water and Al2O3 water nano fluid indicate that neither Re nor pressure drop along the channel are
good parameters to compare the thermal performance of nano fluid and water.
Key words: micro channel heat sink, nano fluid, Constructal theory, finite volume method, Pressure

as it was he who founded Buddhism, and while his life and teachings may have been clouded by
myths and legends some facts remain consentient and is generally regarded as true. He was born
in Nepal in modern day Kapilavastuto, to a large but poor clan called the Shakyas to which his
father was the king, which made Siddhartha a prince. It is said that a wise sage or priest had
predicted that Siddhartha had the potential to become either a great military king or a great teacher
depending whether he was exposed to suffering (Molloy 127). So his father, the king, kept... Show

Where Theravada Buddhist believes that only a few men can achieve nirvana, Mahayana
Buddhist believes that everyone possesses the nature of enlightenment and can achieve it. One
other major difference between Theravada Buddhist and Mahayana Buddhist is that Mahayana
Buddhist are far more open to anything that can lead to a greater sense of spiritual awareness
and they are also open to other religious paths. Mahayana Buddhist heavily emphases the
importance of both compassion and wisdom. Karuna, which means empathy, is the belief that
deep down we are all the same and so to be kind to someone else is to be kind to yourself. One
such example of the importance of compassion amongst Mahayana Buddhist are bodhisattva who
are Buddhist who has attained enlightenment, but who as a selfless act, delays his or her entry to
Nirvana for the sake of others (Molly 150). The Mahayana Buddhist also expresses the nature of
the Buddha in three ways, this is known as the Trikaya Doctrine. The three bodies are called

Factors That Increase Sales The Online Marketplace
Optimize Strength
LV has a longstanding tradition of quality, innovation and heritage of over 150 years by following
three rules which were: to master the savoir faire, to provide excellent service to customers and to
innovate continuously. The corporation has also produced an online market used as a channel to
provide access to a larger customer base. To boost sales the online marketplace should be opened
to China and other Asian markets since these markets possess large populations. LV has also
advanced the efficiency of its production system through the introduction of manufacturing
methods motivated by the lean production techniques utilized by Toyota Motors. At its peak,
efficiency was enhanced by 5 per cent per year, through a more sustainable rate was assumed to
be 3 per cent per year. To optimize this strength the company must grow and increase production,
in order to reduce its costs and become more profitable. The corporation has also lessened the
level of specialization of an employee and trained employees in various activities. This is can be
improved by hiring fewer workers since the company can shift groups to manufacture different
products in response to changes in demand. Marketing and advertising can have a tremendous
influence on the value perceived by consumers and hence the willingness to pay more for the
company s offerings. The LV lifestyle is sought after by consumers. LV products send the image of
wealth and convey exclusivity. It has brand loyalty,

Explain The Structure And Development Of The Skeletal System
Explain the structure and development of the skeletal system.
The skeletal system is made up of 206 bones which protects, support and allows the human body to
move. The skeletal system also consists of tissues such as; tendons, ligaments and cartilage these
components connect the bones together which results to the posture and framework of the body.
The skeletal system of a new born baby consists of more bones than an adult (roughly 300 bones);
this is because the bones have not been joined together by the tissues. As the human body grows,
the smaller bones are joined together to form larger bones in the body. Teeth are also a part of the
skeletal system they are made of dentin and enamel. Enamel is the strongest substance in the body.
The structure of the skeletal system on a whole consists of ligaments, tendons, cartilage, joints,
sockets and bones which all interrelate and play a massive part in the functioning of the body by
protecting the internal organs and allowing the body to maintain balance and posture.
Ossification is the process whereby new bones are created and developed by cells named
osteoblasts. An example of ossification is when cartilage is transferred to bone however, factors
determine the transformation. Calcium and the consumption of vitamin D will allow the process of
ossification to occur efficiently so that the bones can harden and the chances of fractures and breaks
can be prevented.
Bones are sturdy to hold a person s body fat however, they

The Realism Period Of The Novel The Tales Of Huckleberry...
With the rise of the Realism period brought in the notion of seeing and reading what is truly
happening in the world. This era was brought forth as a counter to the Romantic period of writing
which focused more on the imaginative. The writing belief of the Realism period involved showing
the truth while avoiding implausible, exotic, and supernatural elements that where seen in the era s
past. Often times this is used to show the ugliness of society specifically the middle class, who is
often viewed as ones trying to live above their means. During this era many prominent writers
found there calling ranging from Mark twain who wrote stories like The Tales of Huckleberry
Fin to Gustave Flaurbert who wrote stories like Madam Bovary . This story is Flaurbert s way of
showing his disdain in the rise of the middle class. With the belief that the middle class where
imitator s that wanted to live the lavish lifestyle of the upperclassman. In the story the reader is
introduced to three important characters in Elder Bovary, Heloise Bovary, and Emma Bovary.
These three women show Flaubert s disdain for the people of the lower and middle classes tried to
act as if they were apart of the upper classby any means possible. Elder Bovary is the mother to
one of the first main character named Charles Bovary. She is described as wanting to live

black families Essay example
Family is a basic unit in every society. However, the makeup of a family is more complex to
define. There are so many types of families that it is impossible to have one distinct definition in
trying to explain how a true family is defined. For example, there are married couples with or
without children, single parent families, and even families headed by gay menor lesbians. These
may not have been considered families not too long ago, but now must be recognized because we
live in such a diverse society. What I want to focus on is the African American family, in terms of
what they had to go through before, during, and after slavery. As well as, where they are now and
where it s going in the future.

Extended Family
As I stated before the extended family has played an important role in African American families
throughout history. Extended family is made up of the family that is outside of your immediate
nuclear family, your uncles, aunts, grandparents and/or cousins. I don t come from a nuclear family,
instead I m from a single parent family, so my mom usually depended on some members of our
extended family to help get by . Even now, I m living with my grandparents, so my extended
family has always played an important role, at least to this point, in my life. The extended
family is sometimes used as an economic unit. African American families are especially known
for this type of households. It allows the family to use resources and exchange goods and
services, and other things that probably wouldn t possible if they were on their own (Dickerson,
1995). This type of living arrangement goes back to West African cultures. For example, in the
Ashanti tribe young women remained in their family compound because the mothers weren t
believed to be able to manage on their on. So they stayed and received help from the older women
in the tribe and other young mothers to help care for the children (Dickerson, 1995). An extended
family gives children someone other than their mother or father to relate to (Staples, 1994). It can
be viewed as a special friendship that isn t shared with either of the parents.

Medical Center And Its Impact On The Health Care Industry
Tufts Medical Center had major problems when it comes to looking for ways as to how they could

able to compete with their more prestigious rivals. Despite having a strong following of doctors
and patients, Tufts Medical Center was not a dominant player in the health care industry. Over the
years, it has failed to build brand recognition unlike its rivals like Massachusetts General. By 2014,
Tuft Medical Center executives decided that they would begin talking about a merger with the
BostonMedical as they wanted to create a new health system. However, the negotiations broke down
months later as the leaders from both the hospitals have discovered that they have a huge difference
in culture and strategy. It was reported that Boston wanted to focus on their low income patients but
Tuft Medical had something more striving in mind. They wanted to expand their target patients,
particularly patients who are in private insurance and they also want to attract patients across

others have, in their speeches and writings, created a perfect pairing of words that persists in the
mind of the listener. Two such activists of the Twentieth Century were Margaret Sanger
and Betty
Friedan. Friedan and Sanger greatly influenced the women s rights movement; despite both being
feminists, however, their personal beliefs in terms of other civil rights movements often fell at
opposite ends of the spectrum. Both Friedan and Sanger popularized phrases which empowered
their respective followers and similar activists to push back against a system designed to repress
them; the phrases that the two activists used, however, reflected their different brands of activism
and revealed their differences of opinion on who mattered both for and in the Women s Rights
Movement. : Sanger with the phrase birth control and Friedan with the term feminine mystique.
Betty Friedan, who lived from 1921 2006, constructed her activism through her writing. She wrote
for trade unions and magazines, and later, at the age of 42, published her best known work The
Feminine Mystique. This book stirred up a following among urban, white, middle class American
women who felt that their male counterparts

Bitter Taste Receptors
Taste receptors are said to be the main way organisms choose the foods to ingest while avoiding
toxins and rotten foods. Bitter taste receptors (TAS2Rs) have been shown to vary in different
organisms. It is hypothesized that the differences observed are due to the diet type and toxins
available to the different organisms. It has been shown that herbivores have more functional bitter
taste receptors than carnivores, presumably protecting them from the toxins in plants. Similarly,
many carnivores such as the domestic cat have lost the functionality of sweet taste receptors in
relation to the lack of plant based material in their diets. The functionality of bitter taste receptors on
different animals, based on eating habits, has become a huge... Show more content on

When deciding how closely related two organisms are, homologous genes, or genes that have
common nucleotide sequences as a result of common ancestry and analyzed. Through the tracking
of these genes, the evolutionary relationships between organisms can be observed. It is said that
evolution is progressive; genes that provide an organism with a specific advantage, like the ability
to avoid toxins in food sources, will be passed on while genes that are disadvantageous will be
selectively removed from the gene pool. Any mutation that interferes with important metabolic
functions will be eliminated through the process of purifying selection. The removal of these
harmful mutations also acts to conserve the functionally important genes in the population. Genes
that code for proteins are highly conserved between organisms through this mechanism. The high
conservation level of these genes is used to link even the most distant relatives together, leading to a
better understanding of the relationships between organisms while allowing for the comparison of
functionality between these highly conserved sections of DNA. The evolutionary relationships of
organisms are often mapped on phylogenetic trees, showing the relative closeness of relation
between organisms. Genes and genetic organization are both conserved between related
organisms. The areas of the genome where genes are in the same order are known as conserved
synteny. As stated previously, the genomes of related organisms are similar, not identical. This is
due to mutations in the genetic material throughout time. Even within the same species, genetic
variation is observed. The most common mechanism for genetic variation is Single Nucleotide
Polymorphisms (SNPs). SNPs are defined as the change in a single base pain, for example, an A T
pair in one person could be a G C pair in another. This type of mutation is said to

The Classica Tale of Little Woman by Louisa May Alcott
The classic tale of Little Woman has taken a place on many bookshelves throughout the world.
The story follows the March girls through 15 years of their lives and is written in a very
pronounced omniscient voice. Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy live with their mother in New England.
Their father is away serving as a chaplain in the war, and the sisters struggle to support
themselves and keep their household together. In the process, they become close friends with
their wealthy neighbor, Theodore Laurence, known as Laurie. As the girls grow older, each faces
her own challenges in life. Jo, the main character, wishes to have the freedom of a man but she
also must learn to be a lady while pursuing her ambition to be a great writer in the male dominate
word. Meg, the oldest child, puts away her love for finer things in order to marry the one she loves.
Beth, the third born, must learn to be more out going, and Amy, the youngest, must learn that it s
not all about her and she must learn to think of others. The girls mother, Marmee, sets an example
of a perfect house wife. Meg falls in love with John Brooke, Laurie s tutor. This seems to spark
Laurie s emotions and he reveals to Jo that he has fallen in love with her, but she refuses him,
saying that she cannot care for him the way he wants her to. Jo goes to New York as the governess
to escape the awkward situation at home and tries her hand at professional writing. Meanwhile,
Amy travels through Europe with the March s wealthy

Rosin Esters Lab Report
ESTERIFICATION OF ROSIN TO MAKE ESTER GUM
Esterification : It is a reaction between alcohols and carboxylic acids to produce esters.
The carboxylic acid group of a rosin acid can be converted to an ester through a reaction with
various alcohols. The alcohols typically used to make rosin esters are given below. The molecular
weight and functionality of the alcohol determines the softening point of the subsequent ester.
Glycerol with three reactive sites is the most commonly used alcohols. Methanol with a single
hydroxyl group and tri ethylene glycol with two reactive sites are used to produce liquid and low
softening point esters.

Lacquer is a wood polish; it is the chemical added to wood to give it the smooth and shiny
properties. Without it, the wood of a piano would be a lot more difficult to work with, shrinking
the lifespan of the common piano by years if not decades. Without lacquer, the piano and other
hammered string instruments may have never become the influential instruments they are today.
WHAT IS LACQUER EXACTLY? Lacquer is a polymer of many different bases that when
coated on a wooden substance, offers a layer of protection and gloss to a piece of wood. The
most common lacquer used on piano frames is a urushiol based lacquer. Urushiol is a common
allergen found in many Anacardiaceae plants such as poison ivy. It has a boiling point of
200Лљ C (392Лљ F) and can dissolve in substances such as alcohol. It is composed of a 6 carbon
ring with 3 double bonds similar to benzene, 2 hydroxyl groups, and an R group. The R group
varies from a large amount of hydrocarbons (such as (CH2)14CH3, (CH2)7CH=CH(CH2)5CH3,
(CH2)7CH=CHCH2CH=CH(CH2)2CH3 and others).

A Brief Note On The Environmental Protection Agencies
As the Environmental Protection Agencies (EPAs) regulations though the Clean Air Act (CAA) for
monitoring and policing air emissions through best, newest and current technologies, for the
betterment of public health and welfare there are many options to be compliant per industry and
region. With options, come the pros and cons for each regarding the polluter (industry) and the
monitor (EPA). Additionally the EPA through the CAA identifies in Title II, Parts A C, the
regulatory requirements for stationary and mobile sources of air pollutionin sections; motor vehicle
emissions and fuel standards, aircraft emission standards, and lastly, clean fuel vehicles. Lastly, this

For example, the entire plant is treated as though it is encased and pollution is therefore measured
by the total amount escaping from the bubble, figuratively speaking. Consequently, under the
bubble concept the polluting company can shut down a non productive furnace in an attempt to
offset any increased pollution resulting from a modification to a different furnace during a period
of specific time during active monitoring. If the resulting emissions reduction is large enough to
offset the increase from the furnace the company intends to modify, the total pollution from the
plant does not increase (Flieder 1985, p. 775) Therefore, the cap and trade conceptual approach to
emissions reduction and trading brings incentives to reducing the manufactures outputs of air
pollutants, all the while overtime reducing the overall amount of regulatory air pollutants per state,
and eventually a country as a whole. The bubble concept on the other hand allows trade offs
between sources within a facility, while the offset policy allows trade offs between entire facilities.
(Flieder 1985, p. 773) The major difference between the two are the challenges between the two
with regards to monitoring and enforcement, for example, with the bubble concept, this allows the
owners and workers to avoid installing the best pollution control technology on an altered facility.
Under this guise, that as long as the overall emissions from the plant do not increase

Summary Of The Middle Class In Madame Bovary
The middle class in France during the early 1800s, otherwise known as the Bourgeoisie, was
defined by capitalistic views and business minded outlooks. However, many people of this era,
including author Gustave Flaubert, were highly critical of this middle class. In Flaubert s novel
Madame Bovary, the character Homais represents the ideas and spirit of the Bourgeoisie. Because
of his dissatisfaction with the middle class, the author gives Homais several negative character
traits, such as selfishness, cowardice, and hypocrisy. Flaubert s criticism of the egotistical and
corrupt nature of Homais is evident during the procedure on Hippolyte and the argument between
Homais and the priest; Homais triumph at the end of the novelsuggests that Flaubert is also critical
of the outcome of the pharmacist s actions, not just the actions themselves.
Flaubert establishes Homais cowardice when he refuses to take responsibility for the failed
operation on Hippolyte. Charles originally does not want to take part in this procedure, but
Homais urges him to do so. After the operation is deemed a failure, Monsieur Canivet criticizes
Charles to Homais when he says, But some doctors want to be smart, so they use all sorts of
remedies on their patients without worrying about the consequences... and, ...we wouldn t dream
of operating on someone who s in perfect health! (Flaubert 157). Even though Homais knows that
he pressured Charles into performing this operation, he does not say anything to Canivet that
expresses his partial responsibility. Flaubert writes, He therefore did not defend Bovary or make
any comment at all; abandoning his principles, he sacrificed his pride to the more serious interests
of his business (157). Therefore, Flaubert criticizes the spineless nature of Homais by emphasizing
his lack of response to Canivet s insults. The author reveals Homais character trait of
irresponsibility in this scene, suggesting that Flaubert views the Bourgeoisie as cowardly. Homais
and the middle class, in the mind of Flaubert, are too craven to be held accountable for any action
that would hurt their reputations.
In addition to demonstrating Homais cowardly nature, the operation scene also serves to reveal his

Executive Orders Of The American Presidency
Executive Orders in the American PresidencyBy Niraj PatelPOLI 100A Prof. James Ingram By
definition, an executive order is a presidential policy directive that implements or interprets a
federal statute, a constitutional provision, or a treaty. An executive order can also be
categorized under executive directives, and executive proclamation. (1) Though many may
think of an executive order as an alternative term for a presidential proclamation , it is not.
Presidential proclamations are strictly reserved for public policy and for ceremonial purposes,
such as the declaration of a day for remembrance, etc. Executive orders find their roots from not
only the U.S. Constitution, but Congress as well. Though it s powers are derived from outside of
the executive branch, executive orders do not require any sort of approval whatsoever, and the
president can utilize these orders to set up policy and rules while ultimately negating any thought
of public opposition. Furthermore, executive orders have the ability to be applied to a wide range
of activities and categories, and in the past they have; from implementing internment camps during
WWII, sending U.S. troops abroad, to ideals such as increasing the area of national forests. What
makes executive orders such a hot topic is that historically, these orders only regulated the internal
operational factors of governmental/federal agencies as well as to regulate and oversee public
lands, but more recently, has

Analysis Of Umurao Jan
The movie Umrao Jan was directed by Muzaffar Ali in 1981 and is a social drama (Muslim
social) and classic film. The film featured Rekha (played as Umrao Jan), Farooq Shaikh (played
as Nawab Sultan), Naseeruddin Shah (played as Gohar Mirza) and Raj Babbar (played as Faiz
Ali) in the lead roles while Gajanan Jagirdar (as Maulvi) who plays a supporting role. The story
of the movie is about a Lucknow courtesan (tawaif) and her growth in popularity. During 1840, a
girl called Amiran who is kidnapped from her home in Faizabad and sold her in Lucknow. Later,
Amiran turned into Umrao Jan and prepared to attract men of wealth and flavor of some quality.
Then, Umrao Jan falls in love with Nawab Sultan, who is a high status person in society, but
their love breaks up due to the family concern. Finally, she saw her mother in her birthplace, but
her brother didn t accept his sister as a courtesan so he told her to leave this place and never
come back. Then, she went back where she grew up as a courtesan (tawaif) at Mehfil. The
Umrao Jan s role is comparably higher in the film and she glows up the screen, complying
maturely with her character. Her acting skills touch the audiences with the natural sense of
emotions such as her sadness in her eyes and suffering on her face took next level to the movie.
Muzaffar Ali used a variety of songs in his movie which included Ghazals, sad (songs of Pathos),
marriage, religious and playful songs with the help of music director Khayyam. By the traditional
instruments, Khayyam scored the background music to represent a situation well and smoothly
carry the sequences. Also, Khayyam wants to get the attention of the viewers/audiences by his
music compositions. Khayyam portrayed his music passion throughout each scenes BGM. For
example, when there is a sad or happy scene, he increased and decreased the tempo of the music
and the quality of the sound (timbre) to enhance the visuals based on the situation. Through the
clever use of raag and ras , Khayyam got the heart of the listening audience. All of the songs in
the film have been pictured well and are a feast for the eyes and the ears. Umrao Jan has a

The Urgent Question of How to Motivate Employees
1. Introduction The question of how to motivate employees is the most urgent. Because
employees are valuable resource of any organization. And their willing to satisfy customer needs,
increase and improve productivity is vital for an organization growth and success. Therefore,
managers should clearly understand needs of their workers. The aim of this project is to try to
understand what can be done in order to motivate the workforce competently. This report presents
an example of motivation plan that focused on increasing job satisfaction, enhancing productivity
and quality of goods and services and reducing employee turnover. Moreover, the most efficient
ways to motivate employees are proposed. In addition, this assignment provides managers with
information regarding importance or teamwork. Finally, effective practical strategies are
recommended. 2. An Organization Motivation Plan To make successful plan, managers should
follow next steps: Job satisfaction is important. Caused by employers who can t make their
employees feel satisfied with the job are at risk of losing their best qualified workers to the
rivalry. Directors and managers who make best use of the potential, imaginative abilities and skills
of the whole labor force have a more advantage than those who don t. Laborers that are occupied in
their work have an upper sense of job satisfaction. Encouraged employees supply with the health

Stereotyping Is Bad
Is stereotyping really bad? Well, it isn t bad because it helps people understand who does what
because of this, right? However, that s not necessarily true. In this world, stereotyping has been a
part of how we live. To some people, stereotyping has been a serious issue; to others, not so much.
Stereotypeis a term defined as: An oversimplified generalization about a person or group of people
without regard for individual difference.
An author named Shankar Vedanttam talks about this issue in his article How a Self Fulfilling

Mexicans are bad immigrants. These are things that people do to certain races that need to be fixed.
We live in a society where we base how a certain race is because of an amount of people s wrong

I haven t opened my eyes until I ve come to the conclusion that we were all stereotyped because
we needed to distinguish what a person is by what they looked liked and how they act. I ve had

Of course, there have been some people who have done wrong things and they may have been
black or white or any sort of race. However, these people shouldn t give us a reason why we need
to neglect the good people who have done fantastic things. All in all, we need to focus on the

Analysis Of Rebecca West s The Return Of The Soldier
In Rebecca West s novel, The Return of the Soldier the reader is introduced to a man named Chris
Baldry who suffers from shell shock fighting in the war. When he returns home, he has no
recollection of the past fifteen years of his life. What he remembers, is being in love with a woman
named Margaret, the daughter of an innkeeper. However, what he inevitably comes home to is a
wife named Kitty and a cousin named Jenny who have been earnestly awaiting his return. Although
West portrays Chris to be a victim so to speak within the novel due to his amnesia, the real
trauma that he would experience was awaiting him at home, back at Baldry Court. Chris return
would lead to a major upset in the lives of the women in his life, but for himself as well despite
the fact he cannot account for a little over a decade of his past.
When Chris returns home, West makes it abundantly clear through the accounts of all of the
characters that he is not the man he was when he left to fight in the war. His own cousin Frank
even says, I never realized the horror of warfare until I saw my cousin... (pg. 40). Even Jenny
admits that he doesn t seem to be the same when she admits, By nights I saw Chris running
across the brown rottenness of No Man s Land, starting back here because he trod upon a hand,
not even looking there because of the awfulness of an unburied head... (pg. 7). The shell shock he
experiences causes him to lose not only parts of his past, but parts of himself as well. However,

The Holocaust became possible when the Allies neglected to prevent Germany s manslaughter.
Both America and Britain sat idle as Germany committed genocide, with only their own interests in
mind. The United States adopted Isolationism in hope of fixing their own dilemma instead of
aiding the suffering. Britain handed over millions of lives to save the lives of their own people.
Their abandonment of the Holocaust victims led to the ability to lead out the mass murder of

Neville is best known for the appeasement, the Munich Contract, he made with Hitler. The
concept of an appeasement can be traced back to World War I, between the French and British. It
was made because both sides were not ready for war. Both France and Britain generated a strong
desire to achieve peace at any price (). The appeasement between the two countries settled the war
and they achieved peace. Chamberlain wanted its peace from Germany, so he decided that an
appeasement could satisfy both sides. British politicians at the time feared that communism had a
larger threat than fascism at the time, and many of the politicians admired the way Mussolini and
Hitler ran their countries. This allowed the British government to allow Chamberlain to make a
pact without much consideration on the affects of it. Together, Neville and Hitler made the Munich
Pact, which gave Hitler parts of Czechoslovakia. After signing the contract, Chamberlain met Hitler
without contacting the Czech authoritans and agreed to allow Hitler to have all areas in
Sudetenland with more than a 50% German population. An unsatisfied Hitler demanded all of
Sudetenland, and Britain and France agreed to satisfy his demand. Chamberlain believed he had
made peace with Germany and Britain was safe. Soon enough, Hitler broke the pact and was
invading other parts of Czechoslovakia and Poland. This launched Britain into WWII. After Hitler
broke the pact, Winston Churchill replaced Chamberlain after he was fired because of his pact.
Before he became Prime Minister, Churchill opposed the appeasement. He warned his fellow

disregarding your narcotic prescription signing request. According to her, Dr Snick has been having

Cardiovascular diseases negatively affect the heart or blood vessels of the body. One of these
diseases is known as Atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a disease that causes the hardening and
narrowing of the arteries. Heart attacks and strokes await those that have these diseases (Joseph
et al., 2009). Atherosclerosis can be caused by high blood pressure, smoking, and high
cholesterol. Endothelium are a thin layer of cells that are supposed to keep the inside of the
arteries smooth promoting healthy blood flow. When the endothelium is damaged and bad
cholesterol moves past this area it collects. This causes plaque to form in the arteries restricting
the flow of blood. There was a case study (Violanti, Vena, Patralia, 1998) between the dates of
1950 and 1990 where 40 police officers were examined to collect data on their health and life
span. The information from this research suggested there are lower mortality rates amongst the
U.S. general population vs those in Law enforcement. Arteriosclerotic heart disease deaths were
elevated in law enforcement officers with service times of 10 19 years and represented the
majority of excess deaths amongst those with circulatory disease. The average age of death for the

Pioneer Bluffs Essay
Located in the heart of the Flint Hills, Pioneer Bluffs, a classic farmstead north of Matfield Green
with a natural beauty and repository of Kansas farming and ranching heritage, is now a respected
arts and education center. It is also a National Register Historic District with a classic early 20th

preserving history, and engaging community.
The story of Pioneer Bluffs began in 1859 when Charles Rogler, a young Austrian immigrant,
walked more than three hundred miles from Iowa to build a new life in Kansas. His plot was at
the confluence of a river and creek with a mix of bottomland prairie for crops, timber for building

knights who were depicted as possessing heroic qualities such as strength, courage, selflessness, and
many more.
The Knight in The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, is one example of a knight who
possesses heroic qualities. There was a Knight a most distinguished man, who from the day on
which he first began to ride abroad had followed chivalry, truth, honour, and generousness and
courtesy (Chaucer 4). The Knight is a generous and courteous man and fights with honor and
fidelity, as a hero should. The narrator in The Canterbury Talesalso calls the Knight wise and a ...
true, perfect gentle knight (Chaucer 5). Not only was he a gentle Knight, but a strong Knight as
well because of the various battles he participated in. These traits that the Knight possessed that the
narrator in The Canterbury Tales seems to fond over are reminiscent of a true hero. A hero is said
to be strong, kind, brave, selfless, and loyal. The Knight fits this description almost perfectly. The
Knight is not the only knight in the Middle Ages that was depicted as being a hero.
Lancelot, although possessing some antiheroic traits, possessed qualities of a hero as well. In
The Knight of the Cart, at the beginning of Lancelot s quest to save Guinevere, he runs into a
dwarf who is riding the shaft of a cart. He asks the dwarf if he has seen Guinevere at all, but the
dwarf does not give him any information and instead tells him to get in the cart and he will
know by morning of what happened to Guinevere. Riding a cart during those times was not a
good thing. The cart was for all criminals alike, for all traitors and murders... the guilty person
was taken and made to mount in the cart... he had lost all his feudal rights and never heard at
court (Troyes 211). At first, Lancelot hesitated for a couple of seconds, but then he decided to
ride in the cart, knowing the repercussions of doing it. This shows Lancelot as a selfless
individual because he was focused on rescuing Guinevere. Lancelot sacrificed his reputation for
Guinevere. By stressing how shameful it is to ride in the cart, ChrГ©tien thereby stresses how
noble it is of Lancelot to so

Alexander the Great s Determination
After the death of King Darius III, Alexander began to introduce his Policy of Fusion . He
believed that if the two traditions (Macedonian and Persian) could be blended and assimilated ,
his authority would be more securely established and would rest on good will rather than on force,
according to ancient historian Plutarch. This tell us that Alexander did not want to destroy the
Persia that Darius and his ancestors had set up and replace it with a Macedonian ruling. Quoting
Plutarch, He understood that the sharing of race and customs is a great step towards the softening
of men s heart . Alexander knew that if he were to change Persia to a Macedonian ruling, the
Persians would not have obeyed nor trusted him. He instead opted to... Show more content on

In the year 224 BC, a mass wedding was held in Susa. Alexander had arranged for himself to
marry Barsine, Darius s eldest daughter, and another one, Parysatis, the daughter of Ochus. In
addition, he gave his companions the daughters of the most notable Medes and Persians [Arrian]
summing up to 80 weddings in total, all of which the weddings were celebrated in Persian
fashion. The wedding established Alexander as the Great King of both Macedonia and Persia as
he could now claim to be the son and heir of both previous Persian kings. It also signified the
transfer of power to the Macedonians through the marriage to leading Persian women. Much like
his successors, the children of these marriages were to be taught Greek and trained in Macedonian
customs and have the added advantage of mixed parentage. According to J.R Hamilton, the Susa
wedding brought to a climax his policy of fusing Macadeonians and Persians into a single race .
This is no doubt an example of Alexander s strong determination of combining both traditions.
However, upon Alexander s death, all the men divorced their wives with the exception of
Hephaestion (who died eight months prior to Alexander) and Seleucus. This showed how much
Alexander s men disliked his

This energy is used for gasoline, heating and electricity among many others. Acquiring energy is very important but acquiring this energy in the most environmentally friendly way is even more important. There are various methods used when obtaining natural gas but one of the most controversial ways is through the process of hydraulic fracturing. The idea of Hydraulic fracturing or Fracking dates back to 1866 when inventor Col. E.A.L. Roberts lowered a torpedo to the bottom of a well, filled the well with water and the detonated the charge. The weight of the water forced an explosion and oil began to gush out. Modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though there are negative side effects to the method, the positive effects outweigh the negative. The method allows people to tap into new drilling method, which has greatly increased the production level. With the abundance of oil, the gas price has plummeted. In addition, increase in production of natural oil has increased the employment rate of the people. Besides, the change to fracking has reduced environmental pollution. Because it improves the air quality there has been an improvement in the health and mortality of the people. • 3. William Edward Burghardt Du Bois Essay William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, born in 1868, was a scholar, activist, and philosopher, born into the era of Reconstruction and lynching. Though he accomplished much in his life, Du Bois is largely known for helping found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and writing one of the most prominent works in American critical racetheory, The Souls of Black Folk. Du Bois made it his life s work to contest racismthrough self assertion, humanize black peopleacross the globe, and find a way to integrate black society and white American society. Much of his rhetoric focused on double consciousness and the veil, separate but closely related concepts that Du Bois used to describe the experience of Americans, both black and white. While Du Bois passed away a mere day before the March on Washington in 1963, his rhetoric remains vital to anti racist philosophy; for today, Americans live in an age of colorblind racism. It is a commonly held amongst white Americans belief that all Americans are treated equally and fairly, often citing the civil rights movements of the 1960 s in which the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1968 came to be. However, as of 2016, 42% of black Americans are dissatisfied in regards to how they are treated, while a mere 15% of white Americans are dissatisfied with the treatment of black Americans.1 Much of Du Bois rhetoric focused on education; more specifically, how to use the role of institutions, ... A Voice Guidance System For Autonomous Robots A VOICE GUIDANCE SYSTEM FOR AUTONOMOUS ROBOT Neha Dingwani Email: nehadingwani3@gmail.com Pranali Sonawane Email: pranalis93@gmail.com Sanjivani Yesade Email: Sanjivani.yasade@gmail.com Vishal Motwani Email: rvmotwani960@gmail.com ABSTRACT In this paper, a voice guidance system for autonomous robots is proposed as a project based on microcontroller. The proposed system consists of a microcontroller and voice recognition software that can recognize a limited number of voice patterns. The commands of autonomous robots are classified and are organized such that one voice recognition software can distinguish robot commands under each directory. Thus, the proposed system can distinguish more voice commands than one voice recognition processor can. I. INTRODUCTION This Project Describe a robot that can be operated by voice commands given from user. The project use speech recognition system for giving and processing voice commands Speech recognition, or speech to text, involves capturing and digitizing the sound waves, converting them to basic language units or phonemes. It is the ability of a computer to recognize general, naturally flowing voice from a wide variety of users. The robot will receive commands from user and do the actions like left, right, back, front etc. The robot will detect the obstacles, fire and gas using sensor and do the work like if robot detect obstacle it moves in different direction, if robot detect fire it will stop the fire /buzzer the alarm and if ... The Saydel Eagles Football team just defeated East Marshall 21 12 to finish out their season. The game was over, and all of the players and fans were having a blast celebrating the win. Hands were flying, and voices were roaring. The football players headed back to the locker room to change. Once they were done changing, they all loaded the bus, and we started to head back to Saydel High School. I started to approach the intersection of 54th Ave and 14th St. I had a green light, so I proceeded at 35 mph. I approached the intersection, looked left, then looked right. The next thing I know, BOOM! I was struck by a drunk driver. I woke up the next morning, and I just knew something was wrong. I got up, looked outside and my beautiful green truck was nowhere to be found. My dad sometimes would take my truck to run errands on the weekend. I was hoping and praying that s where it was. You were hit by a drunk driver last night. You re very lucky to still be alive. I rushed to my room and started to cry. My room felt so hot and humid. Once I calmed down, I went back downstairs to talk with my family. My dad then explained to me what exactly happened. • 9. Optimization Of Water And Nano Fluid Constructal optimization of water and nano fluid flow for micro channel heat sinks with rectangular cross section Abstract In this paper, three dimensional water and Al2O3 water nano fluid flow and heat transfer is optimized geometrically using constructal theory. A numerical code based on the finite volume method and SIMPLER algorithm is developed to solve the governing equations. The code is carefully validated by comparing numerical predictions with experimental data. In this study we consider aspect ratio, number of channels in the heat sink and solid fraction factor as degrees of freedom. Given a specific volume and axial length of the micro channel heat sinks and a fixed pressure drop, we want to find out the best possible number of channels in the system, and geometry of each channel that maximizes the global thermal conductance. Furthermore we investigate the effect of different pressure drops. The results show that the geometric parameters have a strong effect on the performance of micro channel heat sink. Comparison of the results of water and Al2O3 water nano fluid indicate that neither Re nor pressure drop along the channel are good parameters to compare the thermal performance of nano fluid and water. • 13. Explain The Structure And Development Of The Skeletal System Explain the structure and development of the skeletal system. The skeletal system is made up of 206 bones which protects, support and allows the human body to move. The skeletal system also consists of tissues such as; tendons, ligaments and cartilage these components connect the bones together which results to the posture and framework of the body. The skeletal system of a new born baby consists of more bones than an adult (roughly 300 bones); this is because the bones have not been joined together by the tissues. As the human body grows, the smaller bones are joined together to form larger bones in the body. Teeth are also a part of the skeletal system they are made of dentin and enamel. Enamel is the strongest substance in the body. The structure of the skeletal system on a whole consists of ligaments, tendons, cartilage, joints, sockets and bones which all interrelate and play a massive part in the functioning of the body by protecting the internal organs and allowing the body to maintain balance and posture. Ossification is the process whereby new bones are created and developed by cells named osteoblasts. An example of ossification is when cartilage is transferred to bone however, factors determine the transformation. Calcium and the consumption of vitamin D will allow the process of ossification to occur efficiently so that the bones can harden and the chances of fractures and breaks can be prevented. Historically, activists such as Nelson Mandela, Mohandas Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and countless others have, in their speeches and writings, created a perfect pairing of words that persists in the mind of the listener. Two such activists of the Twentieth Century were Margaret Sanger and Betty Friedan. Friedan and Sanger greatly influenced the women s rights movement; despite both being feminists, however, their personal beliefs in terms of other civil rights movements often fell at opposite ends of the spectrum. Both Friedan and Sanger popularized phrases which empowered their respective followers and similar activists to push back against a system designed to repress them; the phrases that the two activists used, however, reflected their different brands of activism and revealed their differences of opinion on who mattered both for and in the Women s Rights Movement. : Sanger with the phrase birth control and Friedan with the term feminine mystique. It has been shown that herbivores have more functional bitter taste receptors than carnivores, presumably protecting them from the toxins in plants. When deciding how closely related two organisms are, homologous genes, or genes that have common nucleotide sequences as a result of common ancestry and analyzed. Through the tracking of these genes, the evolutionary relationships between organisms can be observed. It is said that evolution is progressive; genes that provide an organism with a specific advantage, like the ability to avoid toxins in food sources, will be passed on while genes that are disadvantageous will be selectively removed from the gene pool. Any mutation that interferes with important metabolic functions will be eliminated through the process of purifying selection. The removal of these harmful mutations also acts to conserve the functionally important genes in the population. Genes that code for proteins are highly conserved between organisms through this mechanism. The high conservation level of these genes is used to link even the most distant relatives together, leading to a better understanding of the relationships between organisms while allowing for the comparison of functionality between these highly conserved sections of DNA. The evolutionary relationships of organisms are often mapped on phylogenetic trees, showing the relative closeness of relation between organisms. Genes and genetic organization are both conserved between related organisms. The areas of the genome where genes are in the same order are known as conserved synteny. As stated previously, the genomes of related organisms are similar, not identical. This is due to mutations in the genetic material throughout time. Even within the same species, genetic variation is observed. The most common mechanism for genetic variation is Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). The carboxylic acid group of a rosin acid can be converted to an ester through a reaction with various alcohols. The alcohols typically used to make rosin esters are given below. The molecular weight and functionality of the alcohol determines the softening point of the subsequent ester. Glycerol with three reactive sites is the most commonly used alcohols. Methanol with a single hydroxyl group and tri ethylene glycol with two reactive sites are used to produce liquid and low softening point esters. For example, the entire plant is treated as though it is encased and pollution is therefore measured by the total amount escaping from the bubble, figuratively speaking. Consequently, under the bubble concept the polluting company can shut down a non productive furnace in an attempt to offset any increased pollution resulting from a modification to a different furnace during a period of specific time during active monitoring. If the resulting emissions reduction is large enough to offset the increase from the furnace the company intends to modify, the total pollution from the plant does not increase (Flieder 1985, p. 775) Therefore, the cap and trade conceptual approach to emissions reduction and trading brings incentives to reducing the manufactures outputs of air pollutants, all the while overtime reducing the overall amount of regulatory air pollutants per state, and eventually a country as a whole. The bubble concept on the other hand allows trade offs between sources within a facility, while the offset policy allows trade offs between entire facilities. (Flieder 1985, p. 773) The major difference between the two are the challenges between the two with regards to monitoring and enforcement, for example, with the bubble concept, this allows the owners and workers to avoid installing the best pollution control technology on an altered facility. • 26. Summary Of The Middle Class In Madame Bovary The middle class in France during the early 1800s, otherwise known as the Bourgeoisie, was defined by capitalistic views and business minded outlooks. However, many people of this era, including author Gustave Flaubert, were highly critical of this middle class. In Flaubert s novel Madame Bovary, the character Homais represents the ideas and spirit of the Bourgeoisie. Because of his dissatisfaction with the middle class, the author gives Homais several negative character traits, such as selfishness, cowardice, and hypocrisy. Flaubert s criticism of the egotistical and corrupt nature of Homais is evident during the procedure on Hippolyte and the argument between Homais and the priest; Homais triumph at the end of the novelsuggests that Flaubert is also critical of the outcome of the pharmacist s actions, not just the actions themselves. Flaubert establishes Homais cowardice when he refuses to take responsibility for the failed operation on Hippolyte. Charles originally does not want to take part in this procedure, but Homais urges him to do so. After the operation is deemed a failure, Monsieur Canivet criticizes Charles to Homais when he says, But some doctors want to be smart, so they use all sorts of remedies on their patients without worrying about the consequences... and, ...we wouldn t dream of operating on someone who s in perfect health! (Flaubert 157). Even though Homais knows that he pressured Charles into performing this operation, he does not say anything to Canivet that expresses his partial responsibility. Flaubert writes, He therefore did not defend Bovary or make any comment at all; abandoning his principles, he sacrificed his pride to the more serious interests of his business (157). Therefore, Flaubert criticizes the spineless nature of Homais by emphasizing his lack of response to Canivet s insults. The author reveals Homais character trait of irresponsibility in this scene, suggesting that Flaubert views the Bourgeoisie as cowardly. Homais and the middle class, in the mind of Flaubert, are too craven to be held accountable for any action that would hurt their reputations. In addition to demonstrating Homais cowardly nature, the operation scene also serves to reveal his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Executive Orders Of The American Presidency Executive Orders in the American PresidencyBy Niraj PatelPOLI 100A Prof. James Ingram By definition, an executive order is a presidential policy directive that implements or interprets a federal statute, a constitutional provision, or a treaty. An executive order can also be categorized under executive directives, and executive proclamation. (1) Though many may think of an executive order as an alternative term for a presidential proclamation , it is not. Presidential proclamations are strictly reserved for public policy and for ceremonial purposes, such as the declaration of a day for remembrance, etc. Executive orders find their roots from not only the U.S. Constitution, but Congress as well. Though it s powers are derived from outside of the executive branch, executive orders do not require any sort of approval whatsoever, and the president can utilize these orders to set up policy and rules while ultimately negating any thought of public opposition. Furthermore, executive orders have the ability to be applied to a wide range of activities and categories, and in the past they have; from implementing internment camps during WWII, sending U.S. troops abroad, to ideals such as increasing the area of national forests. What makes executive orders such a hot topic is that historically, these orders only regulated the internal operational factors of governmental/federal agencies as well as to regulate and oversee public lands, but more recently, has ... The concept of an appeasement can be traced back to World War I, between the French and British. It was made because both sides were not ready for war. Both France and Britain generated a strong desire to achieve peace at any price (). The appeasement between the two countries settled the war and they achieved peace. Chamberlain wanted its peace from Germany, so he decided that an appeasement could satisfy both sides. British politicians at the time feared that communism had a larger threat than fascism at the time, and many of the politicians admired the way Mussolini and Hitler ran their countries. This allowed the British government to allow Chamberlain to make a pact without much consideration on the affects of it. Together, Neville and Hitler made the Munich Pact, which gave Hitler parts of Czechoslovakia. After signing the contract, Chamberlain met Hitler without contacting the Czech authoritans and agreed to allow Hitler to have all areas in Sudetenland with more than a 50% German population. • 40. Characteristics Of The Knight In The Canterbury Tales Although some knights were depicted as being selfish and careless about others, there were some knights who were depicted as possessing heroic qualities such as strength, courage, selflessness, and many more. The Knight in The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, is one example of a knight who possesses heroic qualities. There was a Knight a most distinguished man, who from the day on which he first began to ride abroad had followed chivalry, truth, honour, and generousness and courtesy (Chaucer 4). The Knight is a generous and courteous man and fights with honor and fidelity, as a hero should. The narrator in The Canterbury Talesalso calls the Knight wise and a ... true, perfect gentle knight (Chaucer 5). Not only was he a gentle Knight, but a strong Knight as well because of the various battles he participated in. These traits that the Knight possessed that the narrator in The Canterbury Tales seems to fond over are reminiscent of a true hero. A hero is said to be strong, kind, brave, selfless, and loyal. The Knight fits this description almost perfectly. The Knight is not the only knight in the Middle Ages that was depicted as being a hero. Lancelot, although possessing some antiheroic traits, possessed qualities of a hero as well. In The Knight of the Cart, at the beginning of Lancelot s quest to save Guinevere, he runs into a dwarf who is riding the shaft of a cart. He asks the dwarf if he has seen Guinevere at all, but the dwarf does not give him any information and instead tells him to get in the cart and he will know by morning of what happened to Guinevere. Riding a cart during those times was not a good thing. The cart was for all criminals alike, for all traitors and murders... the guilty person was taken and made to mount in the cart... he had lost all his feudal rights and never heard at court (Troyes 211). At first, Lancelot hesitated for a couple of seconds, but then he decided to ride in the cart, knowing the repercussions of doing it. This shows Lancelot as a selfless individual because he was focused on rescuing Guinevere. Lancelot sacrificed his reputation for Guinevere.
