The feminist movement has been trying to change the idea of traditional sex roles and
stereotypes in society for decades, but maybe the issue relies on society instead of biological
differences. While these biological differences and research show that there are small differences
in cognitive brain activity between the sexes, they also propose a theory that this is the way it s
supposed to be (Pollitt 2549). Although these differences exist it does not mean that sexes should
have permanently assigned roles in society. Katha Pollitt, a feminist author and high profile activist
wrote the essay Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls, published in 1995 in The New York Times
Magazine. In the essay, she argues that biological determinism may reassure some adults about their
present, but it is feminism, the ideology of flexible and converging sex roles, that fits our children s

Intersections of Race and Sexuality in Queer Culture
Since 2016, there has been a notable and insatiable effort from minority groups to have their
experiences at the hands of oppression legitimized and recognized as valid by the majority.
However, what many people tend to overlook is that these oppressed groups are also fighting for
validity from another minority group. For example, the fight for recognition of women of a racial
minority within the feminist movement, or the acknowledgement of Deaf people of color within
the Deaf community. This overlap, and the experiences people endure because of it, is commonly
referred to as intersectionality. The word itself has been around since the 1980s, coined by an
African American woman named KimberlГ© Crenshaw in an essay she wrote about feminist
theory and how the feminist movement itself only focused on the factor of gender, rather than other
identities that influence a woman s experience with oppression ( New Words: Intersectionality ).
Although there are numerous amounts of intersections that one person can experience, this essay
aims to focus on the intersectionality of Queer people of color, as well as racism and oppression
within the LGBTQ+ community.

In the present world, there are around 6000 languages grouped under various language families
spoken in 200 states (Grimes, 1992). The people across the world speak different languages such as
Arabic, Bengali, English, French, Hindi, Malay, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish which
act as important link languages to communicate with each other. The existence of all these
languages, side by side, resulted in multilingualism because they have been spoken as second, third,
fourth or later acquired by their speakers. Knowing two or more than two languages became the
need for communication among speech communities as well as individuals. Therefore,

But what does knowing of two or more languages mean? A person who can understand more than
one language, will he be considered multilingual? A person who can read more than one language,
but is unable to understand them, will that be considered a multilingual? Multilingualism serves the
necessity of effective communication and for that it is not necessary to have competence in all the
languages. Many scholars use the notion of bilingualism and multilingualism interchangeably to
refer to the knowledge of more than one language. Apart from the natural multilingualism (acquired
generally in the early stages of childhood) and artificial multilingualism (when a person learns it in
