Humanities Human Figure in Art Work Essay
Humanism vs. Realism with Focus of Human Figure Artwork
Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Greek Civilizations
Throughout history the human figure has been demonstrated in Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Greek
sculptures and paintings. Most of these artifacts tend to focus more on humanism than realism due to
Rulers and Gods, geographical areas, resources and events thus, giving them the idea for the theme of
the art they create. These are the reasons that might explain their commonalities or differences in the
representation of the human figure.
For example, during one of our earliest cultures, the Paleolithic period, the Women of Willendorf
sculpture portrays a grossly heavy female figure representing fertility and beauty of being ... Show

A perfect example of this type of sculpture was the Human Headed winged Lion called the Gate
Monster which was made out of limestone, 10 feet, 2.5 inches high, a human head , five legs and body
of a winged lion (Benton amp; DiYanni , p.13) . In comparison, of the Great Sphinx, Giza, this also
has a human head and animal body therefore this doesn t represent realism either. In contrast, the (
human head represents a ruler, a Pharaoh out of sandstone and it was enormous 65 feet in height ).
In Persia, the Tribute Bearers Bringing Offerings relief sculpture, the human male figures look all
alike except for their heights, head coverings and items they have brought, however their stance is not
natural. In comparison, the Egyptian sculpture of Pharaoh Mycerinus and Queen Khamerernebty and
the Greece sculpture Kouros, both statues pose with one leg forward and their weight is equal on both,
therefore giving them the appearance that they can t move (Benton amp; DiYanni , p. 64). More
comparisons also include the Tribute Bearers Bringing Offerings relief sculpture, their faces are not
straight forward, just showing profiles much like the Egyptian wall

paintings Nobleman Hunting in the Marshes and Ti Watching a Hippopotamus. All of these art forms
are labeled under humanism. In contrast, is the Musicians and and Dancers Egyptian wall painting

Music events and festivals range from popular music concerts to classical performances. This includes
festival such as Reading and Leeds. The music magazine NME provides information about all the
upcoming festivals and concerts on their website. Wedding fairs are often held in hotels because it is
easier for customers to access the wedding related goods and services when they are put into one
place. Reunions are popular events which help people to get in touch with friends they have not seen
and spoken for many years. Reunions are held in venues with hospitality facilities like any other
event. An example is the Friends Reunited website. Types of conference Political conferences Political
conferences are party political conferences which are held every year for a general meeting of a
political party. The conferences are attended by certain delegates who represent the party membership.
In most political parties, the party conference is the highest decision making body of the organisation,
tasked with electing or nominating the party s leaders or leadership bodies. Popular venues which are
hired for political conferences include Brighton, Blackpool or Bournemouth which mainly rely on
conference business outside the summer holiday season so such conferences provide significant
revenue.

The Day Vesuvius Spoke
Jupiter was not pleased for Vesuvius had awakened after centuries of fuming quietly and mustering it s
strength to one day expel all of its anger that lie dormant beneath the surface. Mount Vesuvius
showered us in rage. Clouds of darkness barreled in and crowded the sky, ash rained from the heavens,
and fire engulfed the city. A day such as this could only be described as Hell on Earth. For most, this
was the beginning of the end.
I was awakened by the violent shake of our house and the smell of smoke that hung in the air nearly
suffocating me. Horror stricken I raced out of bed to the window to see everything covered in ash and
the only thing I could hear were the shrill screams and cries of my neighbors. I made my way into the
atrium only to find my mother weeping into her hands. I haven t seen her so distraught since the day
Papa died; her hair was disheveled, she was still in her night clothing, and there was no sign of
breakfast anywhere. Mother, what is it? I began to panic for fear of what she might say and with every
moment of silence that passed fear filled my heart and tears began to form. It is Vesuvius, he has been
disturbed. The Gods are not pleased with our people we all shall soon perish. Emperor Titus has fled
to a land in the far east and left us defenseless. Her face was white and her eyes appeared as though
she had spent all morning grieving the inevitable. Before I could speak there was a knock at the door.
Brutus, one of our neighbors and

Objectification Of Women In The Iliad
Being a woman is a terribly difficult task, since it consists principally in dealing with men . This quote
from Joseph Conrad could not be anymore true; women in antiquity have thoroughly had a difficult
life in the past, and this can be shown through ancient texts. Long have women in past mythologies
been the frequent object of interest in these stories: the introduction of sin by Eve, the rape of Helen
from the Spartan throne, the list goes on. Objectification of women is a theme I have found to be very
prevalent in my readings of the Hebrew book of Genesis and Homer s The Iliad. Though different in
the severity of objectification of women and how it affects the characters that were specifically
objectified, both texts still harshly show women in a subordinate light; these similarities and
differences are best expressed through the Genesis s sub story of the rape of Dinah and the Iliad s
scene of Chryseis and Briseis, which comes from the book of The Rage of Achilles. First, I will
examine the story of Dinah, move to the story of Chryseis, and conclude with a discussion on their
similarities and differences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the land of Canaan, where they were staying, Jacob s daughter, Dinah, went to visit the region s
women and was raped by Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite. Once visited by Hamor concerning
the rape, Jacob seems to be visibly indifferent to the defiling of his daughter and intent on hearing
what Hamor has to say. Hoping to put the recent history aside, Hamor and Jacob agreed on
intermarrying their tribes and allowing Shechem to marry Dinah on the condition that all the males of
Hamor s tribe must be circumcised. Circumcised or not, Simeon and Levi, the sons of Jacob and
brothers of Dinah, came and slaughtered all the males and plundered everything their women, their
animals, and their wealth. The scene from the Iliad may be less brutal, but similarly does women zero

Hodgkin s Lymphoma Research Paper
Tara Wallace
BIOL 2402
Claire Prouty
August 11th, 2015 Hodgkin s Lymphoma Thomas Hodgkin began discovering a disease called
Hodgkin s Lymphoma in 1832. (Hildago, 1994.) This cancerous disease begins in the lymphocytes or
white blood cells and can spread throughout the immune system. This type of lymphoma is identified
by a specific cancerous cell called a Reed Sternberg cell. When this cell is found other types of
lymphomas or cancers can be ruled out. Dr. Reed and Dr. Sternberg discovered the microscopic
difference of the Hodgkin s disease cells, which is how the cell received its name. ( What is Hodgkin
Disease? 2015.) Statistics show that out of all the diagnosed lymphoma cases in the United States,
there are typically more male than female cases. The estimated rate for lymphoma cases in the U.S. for
2015 is about 9,050 according to the research of the American Cancer Society. Out of those cases, an
estimated 3,950 will be female and 5,100 male. Hodgkin s Lymphoma can occur in patients of all
ages. Although it is rare, lymphoma can be diagnosed in children as well. The typical age range of
being diagnosed with HL is between 15 and 40. Most cases tend to come about when the patient is in
their early 20 s. ( What are the Key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

such as someone who has HIV/AIDS, or taking organ rejection medication may be at higher risk of

immediate member of the patient s family has had the disease. Research has also shown the increased
risk of HL for smokers. ( Risks and Causes,

Pyramus And Thisbe Essay
Not everyone has the same idea of beauty. Ovid s Pyramus and Thisbe follows lovers who are
forbidden to be with each other. The beauty that comes from the love that they share is shut down by
the wall between them. Rod Sterling s Twilight Zone episode Eye of the Beholder follows Ms. Tyler
who gets surgery to try to make herself look normal but when the surgery does not work she is forced
to go to a place for people who look like her. The viewer of the show sees her as a normal person but

The beauty in both the myth and the show are not seen by others. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
means that beauty is determined by each person individually. Disapproval of oneself and of a couple
can be hard to overcome. Ovid s, Pyramus and Thisbe highlights the theme of forbidden love. Their
fathers are opposed to them being together so they decide to run away to be together. The myth says,
This time, after/ sighing/ their tale of woe, they made a decision: when all was quiet/ that night, they
would try to elude their guards and steal/ out of doors (4.83 85). Running away is the only way that
Pyramus and Thisbe could be together, so that s what they did. Being together was more important to
them than anything else. Although their fathers disapproved them being together they didn t care, their
love for eachother was so strong that no barrier could ever stop them from loving each other. In the
show Twilight zone, Ms. Tyler was not accepted because she looked different than the majority of
people. The narrator in the show says, Now there are questions that come to mind. Where is this place,
and when is it? What kind of world where ugliness is the norm and beauty the deviation from that
norm? You want an answer? The answer is, it doesn t make any difference. Because the old saying
happens to be true. Beauty *is* in the eye of the beholder, in this year or a hundred years hence. On

Elizabethan Influence On Romeo And Juliet
The 16th century was a time of strict religious ruling, a strong queen and respected social classes. All
of which were crucial traits about the 16th century and defined the time period, and along with that,
formed the basis of many works of William Shakespeare, a classic author. The play Romeo and Juliet
by William Shakespeare was written amidst this time and shows a great example of these traits. More
specifically, the strict religious ruling which affected live during this time period. The information that
I learned about the Elizabethan Era will influence my reading of Romeo and Juliet because the
religious status of a time can deeply affect the events that happen. The Church of England s preference

The Problem Of Plastic Surgery
Valeria Lukyanova, a Romanian young woman had more than a hundred surgeries in order to look like
Barbie. She decided to have a huge number of plastic surgeries, regardless of the price, just to reach
her ideal physical appearance. As shocking as it can be, these examples make people realize that looks
are very important in our society and that plastic surgery is therefore becoming a little too common.
Today a real addiction to plastic surgery might be threatening our world.
Plastic surgery is spreading more and more nowadays due to better knowledge in medicine but also to
the changes in people s attitudes and state of mind. It used to be a way to help people in real need but
is now used for small details people want to change, because their look mostly determines their level
of self esteem. In fact, beauty is taking a lot of importance and so does sexiness . The image of the
perfect human given by the media has been changing the way people see themselves. Plastic surgery
has become more common because it is an easy way to change physical appearance. However, the
number of eating disorders has also increased but for people who can afford it, it is always more
convenient to get an operation.
Plastic surgery should not be as common because it makes people fake in a way. It occurs when
people are obsessed with their looks and will have as many surgeries as they can to be as close to their
perfection as they can be. It can be said that there is an addiction to plastic surgery

My Dream Of A Baseball Dream
On Returning: A baseball dream
I am on my way to the New England Baseball Complex in Manchester. It is early August, and the end
of the regular season. It has been an unusually lengthy season and I am ready for it to be finally over. I
have traveled all over New England and have visited many different states. Baseball is my first sport,
the sport I focus on the most throughout the year. Baseball has always been my favorite sport ever
since I was little. My dad taught me to play when I was around 6 and I have played extensively every
year since. I looked up to my brother a lot growing up and I remember playing with him when I got
home from school. My family was always there for me and always was around to help me do what I
wanted to do. It has been my goal to play in college and get a scholarship. This summer I took my first
step toward reaching that goal by competing in many tournaments where I can get exposure to the
colleges.
This tournament had many college coaches from across New England. There are a lot of good teams
and players and it was important to stand out to the coaches. The last 2 games we had were a double
header and I had to catch both games in 100 degree weather. I did it because it was something I could
do to show toughness and standout. We lost the first game and won the second game. We made the
playoffs and are seeded in 4th. It is the playoff game of the tournament. We played really good so far
going 3 1 0 on the weekend. I was doing alright throughout

The Beginning Of Red Badge Of Courage By Stephen Crane
In the beginning of Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane, Henry Fleming or the youthful private is
a farm boy who has left the farm against his mother s best wishes to enlist in the Union army. The
novella begins after Henry has enlisted and joined with the 304th New York regiment encamped
across a river in Virginia from the enemy. The date is May 1863, two years after the Civil War has
already begun, and the scene is set for the upcoming Battle of Chancellorsville. Through the course of
the weeks leading to Henry s first battle, Henry is brought to question his beliefs and learn his place
within his own regiment. Through the use of naturalism, irony, and the literary point of view, Crane

While Henry contemplates, the narrator illustrates Henry s struggle as Henry tries, to mathematically
prove to himself that he would not run from a battle [...] [, however,] [i]t had suddenly appeared to
him that perhaps in a battle he might run, (4) showcasing how when compared to his previously held
notions about war, the irony of Henry s newfound cowardice and lack of bravery is clear. Similarly,
Henry is naïve to his true part in the war and the uncontrollable forces controlling his life. Through the
use of naturalism, the pessimistic version of realism that asserts that most individuals are without
freedom that they are at the mercy of larger forces, like economics, war, the government, heredity,
environment, and nature, Crane shows the reader how small and insignificant Henry is in the grand
scheme of things. As Dr. Ball states, you join the military and lose your freedom, it seems,
exemplifying Henry s current predicament (Ball). Henry, although having hopes of becoming a hero,
is as his mother says, jest one little feller amongst a hull lot of others, (3) revealing the reality and
irony of his current situation, he is not a hero able to achieve glory in battle. As the narrator points out
Henry, had grown to regard himself merely as a part of a vast blue demonstration, (4) demonstrating
how his situation changes Henry s ability to gain glory and fame in battle. However, soon after the

Evita: The Real Life of Eva Peron
Evita: The Real Life of Eva Peron by Nicholas Fraser and Marysa Navarro is a life story of one of the
popular political figures in the recent Latin American history. Eva Peron is among the most
controversial women in the modern history and a significant Latin American political figure, has also
been portrayed as a cultural symbol through movies and popular music over the last decades. The

Marysa Navarro and Nicholas Fraser, however, maintain that there is no record of Magaldi performing
in Junin in the year 1934.
The Peronist version of Evita s participation in crisis placed her in the traditional Argentine woman s
role. Evita was depicted as a supportive and a faithful wife even in Peron s darkest hour. The
opposition s version was that it was Evita who resisted Peron s arrest and led the organizing his
release. On the surface, Evita s role description by the opposition appear to have some positive
qualities, they also had negative connotations that were disparaging both to Evita and her husband.
The actions of Evita taking the role assigned to Peron, she emasculates him and reveal her
masculinity.
Nicholas Fraser and Maryssa Navarro recognize the negative connotations of Evita s portrayal in the
Argentine context. This element alerts the reader to the meaning of the current Latin fascination with
Eva Peron. One the surface Evita seems to be a strong woman who is a role model to others, but Both
actors reveal her real self and attack her character of a woman who leaves her traditions. Until the
publication by Fraser and Navarro, Evita had been viewed as an uneducated, obscure and a vulgar
woman who used men to climb the gutter. She is depicted as a scheming woman who manipulated

Reward and Fairness Issues in Performance Related Pay
1. Introduction
Performance related pay (PRP) is a financial rewarding system which is directly associated with the
work accomplishment of employees. It seems that the basis of this process is cash or bonus payment:
employees will be awarded cash or bonus when they achieve a greater performance. In the late 1980s
and early 1990s, the system of payment by performance was widely applied in both private and public
sectors in many organizations in the United Kingdom. Brown and Armstrong (1999) claimed that
there are more than 50 percent of the UK companies had implemented this method to motivate their
employees during that time.
However, in fact, Kohn (1993) indicated that there are not quite much research existing which
explicitly indicates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Job enlargement is to assign more jobs to workers in order to enhance their responsibility that allows
them to complete the whole cycle of work process instead of one part concerning. As to freedom
concerning job duties, it increases more independence in decision making that relates to the
responsible tasks of employees. The formal commendations could demonstrate the appreciation of
employees performance and value the importance of works they have done. In addition, the promise of
enhancing the chance of promotion can be used as reward when workers accomplish a certain standard
or present best performance in certain periods. Generally speaking, the main purpose of these rewards
is to improve the satisfaction of employees by building up their self recognition and personal
achievement. The attractiveness of non financial incentive could be illustrated clearly by a simple
example of the dedication to adored leisure activities or hobbies of individuals. Even though they
would not receive any money from those activities, they still keep doing them.
Evaluation of Non financial Rewards
Each person could be motivated by different things. Therefore, matching rewards with every
employee s expectation needs to be realized as Williams (2002) suggested. Moreover, factors that
motivate employees really well in one level might de motivate or create dissatisfactions in other
levels. Consequently, to realize the real motivator of each employee, organizations

Economic Criticism Of Robinson Crusoe
CRUSOE S QUEST FOR FORTUNE In Daniel Defoe s novel Robinson Crusoe the title character,
Crusoe, left his country due to economic motives. Ian Watt has noted in his essay named Robinson
Crusoe as a Myth that Crusoe observes nature, not with the eyes of a pantheistic primitive, but with
the calculating gaze of a colonial capitalism; wherever he looks he sees acres that cry out for
improvement, and as he settles down to the task he glows...with...purposive possession. Robinson
Crusoe subjugated the island with the drive of Western European nations and exploited it with the
formation of cultural hierarchy. I agree with Crusoe and his labors to commodify and take possession
of his island because he used all relationships for his own benefit, ending convinced of his own
superiority. In the beginning, Crusoe s desire for money drove him to go on a voyage to London.
During this voyage, his ship was captured by a Turkish pirate, and Crusoe ended up enslaved on a
Moorish port named Salle (Defoe 12). After two years of being held in captivity, Crusoe says I
meditated nothing but escape, and what method to take effect (Defoe 13). He relied on his aptitude to
help him through his escape, and since nothing presented itself, he ended up putting it into practice
when he was sent to go fishing with a Moor named Ismael and a young boy named Xury. He brought
up to the Moor s attention that they were not going to sustain themselves with the patron s bread so,
then he brought biscuits and fresh water into the boat. Soon, after that he tricked the moor by saying
our patron s gun are on board the boat, can you not get a little powder...it maybe we kill some
alcamies for ourselves, for I know he keeps the gunner s in the ship (Defoe 15). Crusoe s ability to
play tricks on Ismael clearly connects to his gaze of a colonial capitalist. Also, when Crusoe, Ismael,
and Xury were fishing and a fish got caught on his hook he didn t pull them. Then, suggested to the
moor that they should go deeper into the sea to catch more fishes in order to serve the patron s wishes
(Defoe 16). Then, the moor agreed and Crusoe s strong determination to escape urged him to run the
boat further out into the sea. When he was giving the boy the

The Effects Of Hip Hop Music On Adolescents
Effects of Hip Hop Music on Adolescents Music is a significant part of the lives of most people all
over the world. In the United States, people listen to more than 25 hours each week [1]. Hip hop
makes up a large percentage of adolescent music genre preference. It goes without saying that this
overwhelming presence of music in the lives of so many people will have a psychological effect on
American culture and our way of life. But how exactly is Hip Hop affecting us psychologically and
culturally? The effects of music videos on adolescences have been the subject of controversy for
decades. The common reason for the concern has been appropriately summed by Arnett (a Research
Professor of Psychology at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts), who explained, women are
used as props for the illusive life the music video is portraying the artist to have. The concern that hip
hop culture, as seen in music videos, has become heavily influential on young people s views of
sexuality. The concern about mainstream hip hop music and music videos sexualizing women, in
particular, is so omnipresent, many can even be referenced as rape culture by embedded sexual
violence in the lyrics being disguised as pleasurable elements of hip hop. The Kaiser Family
Foundation in the year 2001 reported that teenagers rank entertainment media as the main source for
information about sexuality and sexual health [3]. Descriptive language and sexual imagery in music
videos directly affect

Despite the Chrysler Bailout and Challenger Disaster being distinct situations, both required a
judgmental decision making approach. The lack of this approach in the Challenger disaster could be
attributed to the fact that the face of failure was invisible to the decision makers compared to the

and effective decision was not implemented their existence would be short lived. The highest level of

The Meno Dialogue By Socrates
At the outset of the Meno dialogue, Meno asks Socrates, [...] can virtue be taught? Or is it not
teachable but the result of practice, or is it neither of these, but men possess it by nature or in some
other way? 70a. Meno is asking Socrates how one can acquire virtue, and these four questions offer
paths of investigation.
What are the paths and how are they dealt with? The first, can virtue be taught this is the main path
taken up for investigation of virtue. Second result of practice it doesn t seem as though this path is
dealt with (one could ask why it is that this isn t taken up, could it have to do with Meno as Socrates
foil?). Third by nature this path is rejected a few times, 89b, 98d, 99e. Fourth some other way this
open ended option seems as though it might offer a solution at the end of the dialogue (in the form of
divinity). However, before Socrates enters into Meno s initial question, there is a more important
question that needs turning over. What is virtue? I have sequestered my discussion on Socrates
investigation of what virtue is to an end note in order to stay under the word limit, for the present
purpose it is only important to say that Socrates and Meno can t find a clear definition of virtue, but
Meno pushes Socrates to investigate the aforementioned questions about the acquisition of virtue
regardless. Socrates does so despite the fact that the two don t know exactly or clearly what virtue is.
We can now follow the paths or

a man will find a woman extremely attractive as long as her waist is much thinner than her hips
(Ridley 292). In addition, this ratio is also hints if a woman is childbirth potential (Ridley 292).
Throughout human time, this waist to hip ratio theory has changed on what is preferable (Bovet and
Raymond 1). However, this sexual attraction is still a trait that influences men s mate preference
(Bovet and Raymond 1). I also found that a woman s waist to hip ration also provides information
about a woman s age, and health (Bovet and Raymond 1). Overall,

Summary Of Fahrenheit 451, By Aldous Huxley
We love ourselves to the point of idolatry; but we also intensely dislike ourselves¨ (web). In his youth
Aldous studied science, which he tied into his writing. Because of this, he was denoted as a serious
writer and one of the few that could so aforesaid. Huxley lost and regained some of his sight and still
managed to write phenomenal work. And lastly, as a kid, he stood out, which foreshadows his success.
Aldous Huxley was born to an English writer, Leonard Huxley. His mother, Julia Arnold, was a
relative to a prominent essayist and nineteenth century poet, Matthew Arnold. In his family, as well,
were people of scientific tradition and English literature. Because his accomplished family, Huxley
received a polished education and became an avid student in his studies. He dreamed of being a doctor
and studying medicine, but his ambition faded away when he caught an eye infection that left him
almost wholly blind. He then sought out for a doctor, who restored most of his eyesight. He was
educated in science and literature. He stuck with what he knew and went into the field of composition.
Since he studied science beforehand, he was able to supplement his writing with the current scientific
discoveries. Published in 1947, Science, Liberty, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a depicted a story of a dictator who would not let the residents of his city read books. In fact, he
sent firefighters to burn them to the ground if he found out a resident was keeping them. This author
and Huxley both had similar ideas about the government abusing their power to gain and retain it.
Unlike Science, Liberty, and Peace , most of the people in the town of Fahrenheit 451 were ignorant
and did not realize that they were being misused. Similarly, Bradbury symbolized his ideology
through the main character, Guy Montag. Montag was a fireman who did not put out fires, but instead,

Cultural Diversity In The Film And Television Industry
In addition to considering myself a champion of the supporting cast of the films and shows I regularly
watch, I also do appreciate and value diversity within the film and television industry. While I may not
voice my concerns publicly about the traditional lack of diversity within the industry, I regard this
issue as one amongst a whole host of others that are vital to the ongoing success of this business. For
whatever reason, I tend to have a heart for Asians within the industry who have exceptional talent and
deserve to be recognized. In the case of Nelson Wong, I have noticed his work for several years now,
so reaching out and asking him a few questions about his career is an action that matches perfectly not
only with my own beliefs and value system, but certainly with the Hallmark network as well.
Although the Christmas movies are past, I am honored to be able to share the career and thoughts of
this astounding actor and benevolent human being.

RH: Why did you decide to become an actor?
NW: I always felt like an oddball being the youngest and only boy (I have two older sisters) in an
immigrant family in New Zealand. I had a hard time relating to my family and the world around me
due to cultural differences, and I got bullied at school initially for being Asian and different. The
people I related to the most were on TV folks like John Ritter, Don Knotts, Gil Gerard, and Adam
West. They showed me a world where people were

Missouri Compromise Dbq
The Missouri Compromise was only important for preserving the Union for that small period of time.
This is evident through the fact that the Compromise of 1850, Fugitive Slave Law, and other debates
occurred even after the Missouri Compromise. Many Americans agreed that slavery would be the
issue that led the United States to a civil war and the Missouri Compromise was one of many events
that delayed the war.
The Missouri Compromise was in 1820 then the South seceded forty years later in 1860. Many
Americans agreed that the issue of slavery could and would lead to a civil war, even Adams who said
If the Union must be dissolved, slavery is precisely the question upon which is ought to break. (Doc 4)

Eric Tippeconnic Essay
Eric Tippeconnic is a visual artist with specialty on painting. He is an original American on his father s
side and a first generation American on his mother s side. Eric s mother, Kirsten, was born in
Copenhagen and left at the age of 18 when she married an American sailor. She grew up in
Copenhagen during Nazi Germany s occupation. Eric s father, Norman Sr. is a Comanche from Cache,
Oklahoma. Eric s grandfather carried his name from the Fort Sill Reservation. Eric himself grew up on
all kinds of different Native American land due to his father s government job. He was a professor of
history in California State University Fullerton.
The Tippeconnic family gets their name from Eric s great grandfather Tippeconnic who fought against
the United States in the Red River War. Tippeconnic is Comanche for Rock House. He was born in
Nome Alaska and for much of his early life he lived on numerous Indigenous reservations in
California, Arizona and New Mexico. He also had the good fortune to be able to travel quite often to
Denmark. Eric credits both his Danish and Comanche cultural heritage for sparking his interest in art
and history at a very early age. The Comanche were a nomadic people, ranging across the Plains from
the Dakotas to Mexico. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Karen Horney Archer Personality Traits
Sterling Malory Archer is the main character in FX s cartoon series Archer. Archer s personality is
mainly shaped around his childhood. He is a smooth, insensitive, borderline narcissistic, spy that
works for his mother. Archer was a lonely a child and didn t get a lot of attention from his mom, and
he didn t know who his father was till later on in the show. Karen Horney s view on personality shows
best for an assessment for Archer. I will be assessing Archer s personality using a psychodynamic
theory. Archer was raised mostly by his caretaker, Woodhouse, until he was old enough for him to be
able to attend Boarding School (15 years). His mother also favorited her Afghan hound, Duchess,
which later on Archer Adopts as a nickname/call sign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I said before Archer did not have a loving childhood, so Archer felt as if he was nothing. Karen
Horney believed that childhood tensions are more social, and not sexual. She also believed that
personality was mostly based on culture. In the episode The Man from Jupiter, Burt Reynolds starts
dating Archer s mom and Boss, Malory. Archer just as when he was a kid, got jealous because his
mom shows again that she cares for someone other than him. Also Archer had a man crush on
Reynolds. Later in the episode Archer tries to break up their relationship while being chased by a
Cuban hit squad. Archer thinks that the world revolves around him, he is very egotistic. If assist with
anyone or anything else, it is for his own benefit. In the episode White Knights, Archer travels to
Russia to find out his who his true father is. Archer then gets kidnapped by the KGB because Nikoli

Polish Nationalism in Chopin s Works
Polish Nationalism in Frederic Chopin s Compositions Frederic Chopin was born in the year 1810, in
Warsaw, Poland and died in 1849, at the young age of 39 (Thompson, 113). He was also known as the
Poet of the Piano due to his nuance, his expressive depth and his ability to conjure up the melody of
the human voice from the instrument s keys
(http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/poland503/chopin.html). Chopin epitomizes the figure of
the Romantic Artist : withdrawn, temperamental, talented and doomed to a premature death from
tuberculosis. (Thompson, 112) As he had a small and frail physique, he used the beautiful tones,

Marian song, Matko Najświętsza. The main melody from the religious piece can be found throughout

The British Of The Colonial Expansion And Governance
Leveraging its advantages in technology and belief in its moral superiority the British were able to
build and manage this vast empire through networks of trade, political governance and force (Mann
and Roberts, 1991; Lawrence, 1996). The establishment and perpetuation of British legal institutions
was an integral part of the colonial expansion and governance. POGG, therefore, was undoubtedly a
creature designed by the British to exercise direct and indirect imperial control over its overseas
territories (Yusuf, 2014). The success of this approach to expanding and maintaining an empire is
evidenced by the fact that by it was the largest empire in world history. It eventually included large
geographic area of Africa, Asia, North America and the Caribbean with its reach in global trade
including close links with South America and other areas (Lawrence 1996).
Figure 1.2: The British Empire (colored red) as it was in 1921 (The British Empire in 1921, n.d)
This growth of the empire reflects both the transposition of British institutions and adaptation to the
environment of the colonized lands. The British colonial institutional development reflected a policy
which by 1839 focused primarily on constitutional rule and relations with the far flung territories.
Compared to the French Empire, the result was a more decentralized system designed to reduce any
basis for rebellion or discord in the colony (Grier, 1999). The existence and persistence of a signature

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Phychoanalysis
Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist best known for developing the theories and techniques of
psychoanalysis. Freud was the founding father of psychoanalysis which is a method through which an
analyst unpacks unconscious conflicts based on the free association, dreams and fantasies of the
patient. Sigmund Freud was greatly influenced by the work of his friend and colleague Josef Breuer.
Together the two published their theories and findings in Studies of Hysteria. Eventually the two
parted ways because of different ideas. Freud s theories were and still are some of the most influential
academic concepts.
Freud believed that a humans most basic drive is the sex drive. Sigmund Freud developed the theory
known as the Psychosexual stages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third stage in this theory is the phallic stage. The phallic stage lasts from three to six years of age.
During this stage the sexual energy is focused on the genital, and boys and girls develop the family
romance. Boys imagine marrying their mother when they grow up and girls do the same with their
father. Children must learn to give up these desires and begin to identify with the parent of the same
sex. Between the age six and twelve a child moves to the latency stage. Freud believed that during this
stage the sex drive goes underground. Children move from the fantasies of marrying one of their
parents to a new realization that must learn to become a grownup. At this age children transfer their
interest from parents to peers. At the age of twelve the separation of sexes begins to change. This stage
is the genital stage. At this point the sexual energy becomes focused on the genitals and sexual interest
amongst peers begins to occur.
Sigmund Freud is one of the most famous psychologist which gives reason for why all of his theories
are highly recognized. His stages of psychosexual are no exception. This theory may even have more
recognition considering it is so controversial even to this day.
Freud s Psychosexual Stages are not exactly direct within the educational system. Unlike John B.
Watson s Classical Conditioning Theory which is seen throughout the school and is learned, the
Psychosexual Stages Theory is more developed by

Art And Art In The Renaissance
Art, drama, and music have always been shaping forces in society as they explore a variety of issues
unique to the society of the time. From the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries, the fine arts
shaped urban life in Venice, Italy and Edo, Japan. The art and music created represented the artists, the
citizens and also depicted the attitudes and interests of society at the time. Furthermore, it impacted
the city life, in economic, social and political ways. Exploring and comparing fine art between these
two cities will provide a glimpse into these societies.
Venice in the late Renaissance period was one of the most peaceful and tolerant societies within
Europe. The city itself was not known for its political fervour, but for their thriving fine arts. The
uniqueness of the city coupled with the history of family guilds allowed for fine arts, such as music
and painting to become incredibly popular, to locals and tourists alike. The impact that art, specifically
painting, had on city life is seen through the popularity of Venetian painters throughout the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Venice achieved much of its economic success due to popular
painters such as Sebastiano Ricci and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. These men had their work become
exceedingly popular abroad which attracted visitors to the city to view their work and others of the
time. Tourists frequently visited the city due to the variety of entertainment available. Along with
painting, Venetian music was

The Importance Of Curriculum Based Assessment
Curriculum based assessment (CBA) is an assessment process that links curriculum content with
assessment. The purposes for CBA is to cultivate effective lesson plans, evaluate students
development in the curriculum, and to determine eligibility (source 1). CBA helps teachers and other
professional specify instructional objectives. Due to direct links between instruction and assessment,
CBA is often used as a frequent measure to determine if changes should be made in curriculum or the
teaching (source1). Intervention, data gathering, and clarification are essential components of CBA.
According to United Stated Department of Education, The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB)
measures districts accountability through the implementation of data collection and report cards
(United Department of Education, n.d.). Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) must meets
NCLB reporting requirements by using report cards to collect and report data about Mississippi
schools and districts academic assessments in English and language arts, reading, math, adequate
yearly progression, funding, and qualifications of teachers (Mississippi Department of Education,
2012). According author Dylan Williams (2011), assessments are an essential component of effective
instruction tracing back from early experiments in the individualization of learning works of Benjamin
Bloom in which reviews the impact of learner s views in the classrooms (source2).

  • 2. Humanities Human Figure in Art Work Essay Humanism vs. Realism with Focus of Human Figure Artwork Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Greek Civilizations Throughout history the human figure has been demonstrated in Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Greek sculptures and paintings. Most of these artifacts tend to focus more on humanism than realism due to Rulers and Gods, geographical areas, resources and events thus, giving them the idea for the theme of the art they create. These are the reasons that might explain their commonalities or differences in the representation of the human figure. For example, during one of our earliest cultures, the Paleolithic period, the Women of Willendorf sculpture portrays a grossly heavy female figure representing fertility and beauty of being ... A perfect example of this type of sculpture was the Human Headed winged Lion called the Gate Monster which was made out of limestone, 10 feet, 2.5 inches high, a human head , five legs and body of a winged lion (Benton amp; DiYanni , p.13) . In comparison, of the Great Sphinx, Giza, this also has a human head and animal body therefore this doesn t represent realism either. In contrast, the ( human head represents a ruler, a Pharaoh out of sandstone and it was enormous 65 feet in height ). In Persia, the Tribute Bearers Bringing Offerings relief sculpture, the human male figures look all alike except for their heights, head coverings and items they have brought, however their stance is not natural. In comparison, the Egyptian sculpture of Pharaoh Mycerinus and Queen Khamerernebty and the Greece sculpture Kouros, both statues pose with one leg forward and their weight is equal on both, therefore giving them the appearance that they can t move (Benton amp; DiYanni , p. 64). More comparisons also include the Tribute Bearers Bringing Offerings relief sculpture, their faces are not straight forward, just showing profiles much like the Egyptian wall 2 paintings Nobleman Hunting in the Marshes and Ti Watching a Hippopotamus. All of these art forms are labeled under humanism. In contrast, is the Musicians and and Dancers Egyptian wall painting where there are two women facing forward as well as ... • 5. The Day Vesuvius Spoke Jupiter was not pleased for Vesuvius had awakened after centuries of fuming quietly and mustering it s strength to one day expel all of its anger that lie dormant beneath the surface. Mount Vesuvius showered us in rage. Clouds of darkness barreled in and crowded the sky, ash rained from the heavens, and fire engulfed the city. A day such as this could only be described as Hell on Earth. For most, this was the beginning of the end. I was awakened by the violent shake of our house and the smell of smoke that hung in the air nearly suffocating me. Horror stricken I raced out of bed to the window to see everything covered in ash and the only thing I could hear were the shrill screams and cries of my neighbors. I made my way into the atrium only to find my mother weeping into her hands. I haven t seen her so distraught since the day Papa died; her hair was disheveled, she was still in her night clothing, and there was no sign of breakfast anywhere. Mother, what is it? I began to panic for fear of what she might say and with every moment of silence that passed fear filled my heart and tears began to form. It is Vesuvius, he has been disturbed. The Gods are not pleased with our people we all shall soon perish. Emperor Titus has fled to a land in the far east and left us defenseless. Her face was white and her eyes appeared as though she had spent all morning grieving the inevitable. Before I could speak there was a knock at the door. Brutus, one of our neighbors and ... • 6. Objectification Of Women In The Iliad Being a woman is a terribly difficult task, since it consists principally in dealing with men . This quote from Joseph Conrad could not be anymore true; women in antiquity have thoroughly had a difficult life in the past, and this can be shown through ancient texts. Long have women in past mythologies been the frequent object of interest in these stories: the introduction of sin by Eve, the rape of Helen from the Spartan throne, the list goes on. Objectification of women is a theme I have found to be very prevalent in my readings of the Hebrew book of Genesis and Homer s The Iliad. Though different in the severity of objectification of women and how it affects the characters that were specifically objectified, both texts still harshly show women in a subordinate light; these similarities and differences are best expressed through the Genesis s sub story of the rape of Dinah and the Iliad s scene of Chryseis and Briseis, which comes from the book of The Rage of Achilles. First, I will examine the story of Dinah, move to the story of Chryseis, and conclude with a discussion on their similarities and differences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the land of Canaan, where they were staying, Jacob s daughter, Dinah, went to visit the region s women and was raped by Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite. Once visited by Hamor concerning the rape, Jacob seems to be visibly indifferent to the defiling of his daughter and intent on hearing what Hamor has to say. Hoping to put the recent history aside, Hamor and Jacob agreed on intermarrying their tribes and allowing Shechem to marry Dinah on the condition that all the males of Hamor s tribe must be circumcised. Circumcised or not, Simeon and Levi, the sons of Jacob and brothers of Dinah, came and slaughtered all the males and plundered everything their women, their animals, and their wealth. (Hildago, 1994.) This cancerous disease begins in the lymphocytes or white blood cells and can spread throughout the immune system. This type of lymphoma is identified by a specific cancerous cell called a Reed Sternberg cell. When this cell is found other types of lymphomas or cancers can be ruled out. Dr. Reed and Dr. Sternberg discovered the microscopic difference of the Hodgkin s disease cells, which is how the cell received its name. ( What is Hodgkin Disease? 2015.) Statistics show that out of all the diagnosed lymphoma cases in the United States, there are typically more male than female cases. The estimated rate for lymphoma cases in the U.S. for 2015 is about 9,050 according to the research of the American Cancer Society. Out of those cases, an estimated 3,950 will be female and 5,100 male. Hodgkin s Lymphoma can occur in patients of all ages. Although it is rare, lymphoma can be diagnosed in children as well. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder means that beauty is determined by each person individually. Disapproval of oneself and of a couple can be hard to overcome. Ovid s, Pyramus and Thisbe highlights the theme of forbidden love. Their fathers are opposed to them being together so they decide to run away to be together. The myth says, This time, after/ sighing/ their tale of woe, they made a decision: when all was quiet/ that night, they would try to elude their guards and steal/ out of doors (4.83 85). Running away is the only way that Pyramus and Thisbe could be together, so that s what they did. Being together was more important to them than anything else. Although their fathers disapproved them being together they didn t care, their love for eachother was so strong that no barrier could ever stop them from loving each other. In the show Twilight zone, Ms. Tyler was not accepted because she looked different than the majority of people. The narrator in the show says, Now there are questions that come to mind. Where is this place, and when is it? What kind of world where ugliness is the norm and beauty the deviation from that norm? You want an answer? The answer is, it doesn t make any difference. • 10. The Problem Of Plastic Surgery Valeria Lukyanova, a Romanian young woman had more than a hundred surgeries in order to look like Barbie. She decided to have a huge number of plastic surgeries, regardless of the price, just to reach her ideal physical appearance. As shocking as it can be, these examples make people realize that looks are very important in our society and that plastic surgery is therefore becoming a little too common. Today a real addiction to plastic surgery might be threatening our world. Plastic surgery is spreading more and more nowadays due to better knowledge in medicine but also to the changes in people s attitudes and state of mind. It used to be a way to help people in real need but is now used for small details people want to change, because their look mostly determines their level of self esteem. In fact, beauty is taking a lot of importance and so does sexiness . The image of the perfect human given by the media has been changing the way people see themselves. Plastic surgery has become more common because it is an easy way to change physical appearance. However, the number of eating disorders has also increased but for people who can afford it, it is always more convenient to get an operation. Plastic surgery should not be as common because it makes people fake in a way. It occurs when people are obsessed with their looks and will have as many surgeries as they can to be as close to their perfection as they can be. • 11. My Dream Of A Baseball Dream On Returning: A baseball dream I am on my way to the New England Baseball Complex in Manchester. It is early August, and the end of the regular season. It has been an unusually lengthy season and I am ready for it to be finally over. I have traveled all over New England and have visited many different states. Baseball is my first sport, the sport I focus on the most throughout the year. Baseball has always been my favorite sport ever since I was little. My dad taught me to play when I was around 6 and I have played extensively every year since. I looked up to my brother a lot growing up and I remember playing with him when I got home from school. My family was always there for me and always was around to help me do what I wanted to do. It has been my goal to play in college and get a scholarship. This summer I took my first step toward reaching that goal by competing in many tournaments where I can get exposure to the colleges. This tournament had many college coaches from across New England. There are a lot of good teams and players and it was important to stand out to the coaches. The last 2 games we had were a double header and I had to catch both games in 100 degree weather. I did it because it was something I could do to show toughness and standout. We lost the first game and won the second game. We made the playoffs and are seeded in 4th. It is the playoff game of the tournament. We played really good so far going 3 1 0 on the weekend. I was doing alright throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The date is May 1863, two years after the Civil War has already begun, and the scene is set for the upcoming Battle of Chancellorsville. While Henry contemplates, the narrator illustrates Henry s struggle as Henry tries, to mathematically prove to himself that he would not run from a battle [...] [, however,] [i]t had suddenly appeared to him that perhaps in a battle he might run, (4) showcasing how when compared to his previously held notions about war, the irony of Henry s newfound cowardice and lack of bravery is clear. Similarly, Henry is naïve to his true part in the war and the uncontrollable forces controlling his life. Through the use of naturalism, the pessimistic version of realism that asserts that most individuals are without freedom that they are at the mercy of larger forces, like economics, war, the government, heredity, environment, and nature, Crane shows the reader how small and insignificant Henry is in the grand scheme of things. As Dr. Ball states, you join the military and lose your freedom, it seems, exemplifying Henry s current predicament (Ball). Henry, although having hopes of becoming a hero, is as his mother says, jest one little feller amongst a hull lot of others, (3) revealing the reality and irony of his current situation, he is not a hero able to achieve glory in battle. The opposition s version was that it was Evita who resisted Peron s arrest and led the organizing his release. On the surface, Evita s role description by the opposition appear to have some positive qualities, they also had negative connotations that were disparaging both to Evita and her husband. Introduction Performance related pay (PRP) is a financial rewarding system which is directly associated with the work accomplishment of employees. It seems that the basis of this process is cash or bonus payment: employees will be awarded cash or bonus when they achieve a greater performance. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the system of payment by performance was widely applied in both private and public sectors in many organizations in the United Kingdom. • 15. Economic Criticism Of Robinson Crusoe CRUSOE S QUEST FOR FORTUNE In Daniel Defoe s novel Robinson Crusoe the title character, Crusoe, left his country due to economic motives. Ian Watt has noted in his essay named Robinson Crusoe as a Myth that Crusoe observes nature, not with the eyes of a pantheistic primitive, but with the calculating gaze of a colonial capitalism; wherever he looks he sees acres that cry out for improvement, and as he settles down to the task he glows...with...purposive possession. Robinson Crusoe subjugated the island with the drive of Western European nations and exploited it with the formation of cultural hierarchy. I agree with Crusoe and his labors to commodify and take possession of his island because he used all relationships for his own benefit, ending convinced of his own superiority. In the beginning, Crusoe s desire for money drove him to go on a voyage to London. During this voyage, his ship was captured by a Turkish pirate, and Crusoe ended up enslaved on a Moorish port named Salle (Defoe 12). After two years of being held in captivity, Crusoe says I meditated nothing but escape, and what method to take effect (Defoe 13). He relied on his aptitude to help him through his escape, and since nothing presented itself, he ended up putting it into practice when he was sent to go fishing with a Moor named Ismael and a young boy named Xury. He brought up to the Moor s attention that they were not going to sustain themselves with the patron s bread so, then he brought biscuits and fresh water into the boat. Soon, after that he tricked the moor by saying our patron s gun are on board the boat, can you not get a little powder...it maybe we kill some alcamies for ourselves, for I know he keeps the gunner s in the ship (Defoe 15). Crusoe s ability to play tricks on Ismael clearly connects to his gaze of a colonial capitalist. Also, when Crusoe, Ismael, and Xury were fishing and a fish got caught on his hook he didn t pull them. Then, suggested to the moor that they should go deeper into the sea to catch more fishes in order to serve the patron s wishes (Defoe 16). Then, the moor agreed and Crusoe s strong determination to escape urged him to run the boat further out into the sea. When he was giving the boy the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the United States, people listen to more than 25 hours each week [1]. Hip hop makes up a large percentage of adolescent music genre preference. It goes without saying that this overwhelming presence of music in the lives of so many people will have a psychological effect on American culture and our way of life. But how exactly is Hip Hop affecting us psychologically and culturally? The effects of music videos on adolescences have been the subject of controversy for decades. The common reason for the concern has been appropriately summed by Arnett (a Research Professor of Psychology at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts), who explained, women are used as props for the illusive life the music video is portraying the artist to have. The concern that hip hop culture, as seen in music videos, has become heavily influential on young people s views of sexuality. The concern about mainstream hip hop music and music videos sexualizing women, in particular, is so omnipresent, many can even be referenced as rape culture by embedded sexual violence in the lyrics being disguised as pleasurable elements of hip hop. The Kaiser Family Foundation in the year 2001 reported that teenagers rank entertainment media as the main source for information about sexuality and sexual health [3]. • 19. The Meno Dialogue By Socrates At the outset of the Meno dialogue, Meno asks Socrates, [...] can virtue be taught? Or is it not teachable but the result of practice, or is it neither of these, but men possess it by nature or in some other way? 70a. Meno is asking Socrates how one can acquire virtue, and these four questions offer paths of investigation. What are the paths and how are they dealt with? The first, can virtue be taught this is the main path taken up for investigation of virtue. Second result of practice it doesn t seem as though this path is dealt with (one could ask why it is that this isn t taken up, could it have to do with Meno as Socrates foil?). Third by nature this path is rejected a few times, 89b, 98d, 99e. Fourth some other way this open ended option seems as though it might offer a solution at the end of the dialogue (in the form of divinity). However, before Socrates enters into Meno s initial question, there is a more important question that needs turning over. What is virtue? I have sequestered my discussion on Socrates investigation of what virtue is to an end note in order to stay under the word limit, for the present purpose it is only important to say that Socrates and Meno can t find a clear definition of virtue, but Meno pushes Socrates to investigate the aforementioned questions about the acquisition of virtue regardless. Socrates does so despite the fact that the two don t know exactly or clearly what virtue is. We can now follow the paths or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The British Of The Colonial Expansion And Governance Leveraging its advantages in technology and belief in its moral superiority the British were able to build and manage this vast empire through networks of trade, political governance and force (Mann and Roberts, 1991; Lawrence, 1996). The establishment and perpetuation of British legal institutions was an integral part of the colonial expansion and governance. POGG, therefore, was undoubtedly a creature designed by the British to exercise direct and indirect imperial control over its overseas territories (Yusuf, 2014). The success of this approach to expanding and maintaining an empire is evidenced by the fact that by it was the largest empire in world history. During this stage the sexual energy is focused on the genital, and boys and girls develop the family romance. Boys imagine marrying their mother when they grow up and girls do the same with their father. Children must learn to give up these desires and begin to identify with the parent of the same sex. Between the age six and twelve a child moves to the latency stage. Freud believed that during this stage the sex drive goes underground. Children move from the fantasies of marrying one of their parents to a new realization that must learn to become a grownup. At this age children transfer their interest from parents to peers. At the age of twelve the separation of sexes begins to change. This stage is the genital stage. At this point the sexual energy becomes focused on the genitals and sexual interest amongst peers begins to occur. The art and music created represented the artists, the citizens and also depicted the attitudes and interests of society at the time.
