California Is Going On A Four Year Drought
California is going on a four year drought, having many devastating implications that are being felt by
everyone in the state. The population hit the hardest has been the farmers of California. California,
being economically driven by its agricultural production, is losing hundreds of thousands of jobs every
year due to the lack of water. Farmers use 80% of water the state produces, directly influencing their
production (Mieszkowski, 2014). The country heavily relies on California for much of its produce
such as tomatoes, nuts, avocados, strawberries, broccoli, grapes and various others (Cooley et al.
2015). In 2014, harvested acreage was 6.9 million acres, the lowest it has been for the past 15 years.
Farmers are now being forced to use significantly less land then before, but also ditch old irrigation
techniques and implement new techniques to better conserve water; maximizing production as much
as possible in order to combat the drought.
California is the leading state in agricultural production; however, the state has taken a blow from this
four year drought. Farmers have been forced to re evaluate their irrigation systems and make
necessary changes to conserve water. In order to judge the agricultural water use efficiency, scientists
are using a ratio of evapotranspiration of the crop grown to the water applied to the crop.
Evapotranspiration is the total evaporation and plant transpiration from land surface to the atmosphere
(Marin et al. 2015). Through various

The Art Of Racing In The Rain Rhetorical Analysis
The Art of Racing in the Tears
The Art of Racing in the Rain is a novel written in the point of view of an intelligent dog named Enzo.
The unique point of view of this novel is what makes it so entertaining and easy to read. Specific
scenes that show how Enzo transcends scenes include the zebra scene. Another is when Enzo kills the
squirrel. The last is Enzo s dying scene. In the Art of Racing in the Rain, Garth Stein manipulates his
style by writing through the unusual point of view of a dog named Enzo, which transcends an ordinary
scene into an extraordinary scene, by using specific syntax, diction, and the unique point of view of
Enzo.
As Enzo was left to starve and hallucinate he encountered the evil zebra.
The now living zebra said nothing to me at all, but when it saw me it began to dance, a twisting, jerky
ballet which, culminated with the zebra repeatedly thrusting its gelded groin into the face of an
innocent Barbie doll. That made me quite angry, and I growled at the molester zebra, but it simply
smiled and continue its assault, this time picking on a stuffed frog, which it mounted from behind and
rode bareback it s hoof in the air like a bronco rider, yelling out
Yee haw! Yee haw! (53).
In this passage Enzo witnesses a horrific sight, but if told by through a different point of view, the
scene would seem very different. In reality Enzo was seeing illusions but what was really happening
was Enzo tearing up a little girl s stuffed animal. Because this scene was told through the point of
view of Enzo the scene really enticed the reader and pulled in their attention. Stein used word choice
such as molester zebra and gelded groin to simulate a nightmarish scene. Stein also writes his
sentences in a way that makes the audience read in a rapid yet fearful way by using syntax. Examples
of this are the excessive use of commas and short/easy pronounceable words. The now living zebra
said nothing to me at all....into the face of an innocent Barbie doll . Because of Enzo s genuine fear
and anxiety, this scene is transformed into an exciting, fearful scene because it is told through the
point of view of Enzo.
Another scene where the perspective Enzo provides changes a scene is when he kills the

NVQ Understand how to make telephone calls
Understand how to make telephone calls 1.1 Describe the different features of telephone systems and
how to use them Hold so that you can hear them but they can t hear you, for example if the person you

understand the purpose of the phone call will make it so that you know what you are talking to the
person about. I.E. if I had a relevant job for a specific candidate, I wouldn t speak to them about
something that was completely irrelevant to their skill set. 1.3 Describe different ways of obtaining the

confidentiality and security when dealing with callers The purpose of confidentiality and security
when on the phone to callers is so that no one irrelevant to the business gets that information. For

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon
Victoria Sirianni Ms. Thompson AP ELA 4 21 July 2015 Song of Solomon Producing the plot with a
vivid image and motive allowed Toni Morrison to incorporate numerous literary works to enhance the
allusions in the story. These specific allusions gave readers a more accurate understanding of certain
aspects of the book. As well as this, readers are capable of searching beyond just the surface of what
the words say. The common use of biblical references and myths, as well as other notations, provide a
more in depth and detailed analyzation throughout the entire novel. To start off, Song of Solomon s
title relates to the biblical book of the same name. This emphasizes that the novel addresses more of
an old aged theme. The bible based book focuses on a conversation between two lovers and Toni s
novel is a celebration of the success of earthly love. Morrison also gives her characters biblical names
in order to match them with the well known figures. These characters not only obtain their original
history, but the history that their name carries in the Bible, as well. For example, the biblical character,
Hagar, is Sarah s handmaiden, who bears Sarah s husband a son and is then banished from his sight.
Similar to the previous one mentioned, Morrison s character is often used by Milkman. He takes
advantage of everything she has to offer and uses it for his own selfish benefits. He seems to regret

Chickenpox Vaccination
Vaccination is widely considered by many as one of the greatest medical achievements of modern
civilisation. Childhood diseases that were common less than a generation ago are now increasingly
rare because of vaccines. With the widespread development of chickenpox vaccines throughout the
United State and around the world it is expected that the spread of highly contagious and life
threatening diseases are on the decline.
For the 22 years the chickenpox vaccine has been available in the US, vaccination has already
considerably reduced the total number of deaths and the medical costs for treating chickenpox. Prior
to the development of the vaccine in 1995 chickenpox affected about 3.9 million people each year in
the United States. About 90 percent of cases occur in children under age 10, primarily in winter and
spring. Since the vaccine was introduced, there has been a steady decline in cases of chickenpox. The
availability of a safe and effective varicella vaccine has reduced the impact of the disease
substantially.
A once common childhood infectious disease characterised by a rash and fever
According to national health care claims data from 1994 2012, The Centers for Disease Control or
CDC researchers found that there were 93 percent fewer hospitalisation for chickenpox in 2012
compared to before the vaccine was introduced. During the two dose varicella vaccination period
(2006 2012), hospitalisation declined 38 percent. Outpatient visits also dropped significantly.

Aldo Leopold The Land Ethic Analysis
The Land Ethic is an essay written by Aldo Leopald in order to convince readers of a new view
centered around the biotic community and the rejection of anthropocentrism. It continually supports
non human life along with human life as long as it is beneficial to the biotic community.
1. Carefully explain what Leopold means by the land ethic.
When speaking of the land ethic, Aldo Leopold states that A thing is right when it tends to preserve
integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it lends otherwise. This is
boiled down to a simple point saying that when something is eco friendly, it supports and is the Land
Ethic. However, if something fails to support the environment then it fails to support the land ethic ...

He states but just what and whom do we love? before going on to say Certainly not the soil...the
waters...the plants...the animals... (p239) Aldo Leopold despises the destruction of the land, therefore
this glamorization of the land used in tandem with destruction provided for a very disrespectful and
paradoxical view of the land. Why does Leopold believe that a land ethic is both an evolutionary
possibility and an ecological necessity? Evolutionary possibility: an evolution of the moral code. Now
including non humans. First ethic: between individuals.
Leopald believes that the land ethic is both an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity
because throughout the course of philosophy, there has been an evolution from first ethics which dealt
with relation between individuals (p238) to a land ethic which now focuses on the relation between
humans and non human, morally considerable beings. This transition has been an evolution of sorts
and has allowed, for some people, to broaden the view of life, ethics, and how one approaches
different scenarios that involve multiple morally considerable beings. The Land Ethic is an ecological
necessity because at this point in time humans view the world with an anthropocentric view. This has

House Of The Scorpion Analysis
I believe utopias do not actually exist. It s like how no one is absolutely perfect. There are many books
and short stories that make this clear. For example, House of the Scorpion by Nancy
Farmer, Animal Farm by George Orwell, and The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. This
stories show the defenent truth that utopias simply do not exist in real life, just our imagination.
Nancy Farmer shows readers through her book The House of the Scorpion that utopias are not real. A
person cannot create their utopia by themselves; they might want servants/slave/workers to do their
work. In this case, El Patrόn uses clones, eejits, Farm Patrol, and servants etc. to do work and make
him live longer so he can be in control for as long as he can. It ... Show more content on

He would trap incoming ships and force the passengers to be hunted by the General.
The story is told from the perspective of the first survivor of his game . Rainsford is a famous hunter
that fell off a ship and swam to the island. At first he refused to be the General game , but he soon
realized he had no choice. Rainsford tricks the General and the General turns in to Rainsford s game.
General Zaroff idea of utopia was murder so he would not be bored. Also, he had a servant named
Ivan that he treated poorly. He gets what he deserves when he loses the game to Rainsford. His utopia
backfires when he lets his guard down and is killed. He didn t think he could ever be imperfect and
lose the game. This is not a utopia because people get killed, a servant gets treated poorly, and the
creator of the utopia dies. Connell shows evidence through a fictional story that utopias do not and
cannot exist; it is not possible.
Utopias are not possible. This fictional stories replicate what would happen if someone tried to create
a utopia in real life. Many people have tried to create utopias, such as Hitler. There are many people
who tried to create a perfect world and failed. There are tons of evidence that it is not

Emile Durkheim’s Notion of Social Solidarity
Emile Durkheim s Notion of Social Solidarity At the heart of Durkheim s book of Division of Labor in
Society is social solidarity. More than an increase in productive output, social solidarity is deemed to
be the most notable effect of the division of labor. Over time, as roles become more distinct and
appropriated according to one s objective, the individuals in a society become more linked to one
another. In fact, he tries to make sense of the division of labor as a phenomenon that contributes to
social order. Throughout the book, he stresses on how the division of labor creates interdependence
between and among individuals which in turn fosters solidarity. Defining Social Solidarity Despite
this, Durkheim did not give a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rules through its punishment created by members of society show the similarities that they share.
It is believed that mechanical solidarity is primarily present in small traditional societies. In Durkheim
s examples in the Division of Labor in Society (1964), communities from the earlier centuries fall
under the mechanical solidarity type whereas modern communities are organic. Durkheim (1964) gave
ancient Germans as an example where all laws are penal, where the people are the ones who execute
justice through punishments. He further shared that in ancient Rome, criminal incidents are also tried
by the people (p. 76). Organic solidarity, on the other hand, is the type of solidarity linked to
restitutive laws, which creates more specialized organs (p. 113). Unlike mechanical solidarity, which
emphasizes on the collectiveness of society, the specialization of organs in organic solidarity seems to
highlight more on the differences of individuals. Although this type of solidarity creates
individualization, it is still based upon the interdependence of groups and individuals. As specialized
as each individual or group s function is, cooperation among them still exists as they need the other to
live and grow. The function of each individual usually has relations to one another. This type of
solidarity gives rise to the growth of

The World s First Army
Assyrian War Techniques
Assyria s humble beginnings originated in a small trading community in the city of Ashur, in modern
day Iraq. Nestled on the banks of the Tigris River with access to merchants, trade, and agricultural
stability Ashur was named and supposedly founded by Noah s son after the Great Flood. It was here
that Assyria started its branching of power and influence to spread its conquests as far south as Egypt
and as far east as Asia Minor. The Assyrian Army, along with its numerous rulers became the greatest
empire in the world at the time. Before the Greek and Roman Empires dominated the region,
Assyrians were the most ruthless and feared people with their skilled war tactics. Known as the world

Several kings of the Assyria empire, such as Tiglath Pileser III, Shalmaneser V,Sargon II, Sennacherib,
and Esarhaddon, are mentioned a number of times throughout the Bible as nemeses of the Israelites..
(Mark). The cuneiforms from the Assyrians and the books from the Bible differ greatly in their telling
of these stories of the kings and their encounters, especially Sennacherib s writings regarding Judah s
conquests verses the chronicles from book of Isaiah 37.
The various war tactics of the Assyrian army received many historic mentions as being perverse, cruel
and barbaric. However, throughout history these same tactics have been repeated and effective in
almost every major military esque nation since. This leads one to ponder if they were setting the bar or
establishing a recipe for future failures.
A commonality of the tactics in battle from the Assyrian army was to storm a village or society with
all their might and force and leave it burning to the ground, taking whatever spoils suited them. This
displayed a message to the slaves whom they captured to share with other neighboring civilizations to
not fight back or defend their region. In one story recounted by Ashur Nasir Pal II, who made a habit
of deporting people from their native homelands and sending them to random regions throughout the
empire

Signet Jewelers Case Study
Signet Jewelers Limited, modern day s largest producer, distributor, and retailer of diamond jewelry, is
an extensive company spread over several branches of stores. The current Chief Executive Officer of
this company is Virginia C. Drosos, who the company appointed into her new position on the first of
August, 2017, in the place of Mark Light, who shortly prior had stepped down. Despite the fact that
Signet Jewelers is a very prominent seller in America, boasting several thousand stores both within
and without malls across the country, its center is located in Hamilton, Bermuda, putting it in British
territory. From there operates one of the most successful jewelry companies in recent history.
Signet Jewelers claims its origins as a single jewelry store in Surrey, England, first opened in 1949 by
Leslie Ratner. From this small beginning point, the company slowly acquired a host of other
successful jewelry chains, making it increasingly powerful and prominent. At first, all these chains
were in England, but eventually, it branched out to America as well, the country would eventually
prove to be its most successful market, and likely saved the company when, in the early 1990s, the
company seemed to hit a dead end. After a few years of rough and dubious times, in which the
company nearly rid itself of its failing UK branch, Signet Jewelers at last resurfaced and returned to
power with a vengeance, even acquiring another jewelry chain after roughly a decade of stagnancy.

What Is The Character Of Matilda Summary
Matilda is the story of an unwanted daughter who turns out to be something of a prodigy. Mr
Wormwood, Matildas father, is a dodgy second hand car salesman who rather foolishly sells old
broken cars to the Russian Mafia, Mrs Wormwood has a penchant for Latin American dancing and
dresses in garish costumes. The Wormwoods dislike their daughter Matilda intensely. They do not
understand her interest in books and encourage her to be like her older brother and fall comatose in
front of the telly . And Mr Wormwood even goes so far as to refer to Matilda as boy even though she
repeatedly corrects him. When Matilda heads off to school she surprises her teacher Miss Honey with
her mathematical skills and intelligence. But she falls foul of the child hating headmistress, the former
hammer thrower Miss Trunchbull. On the occasion I saw the show ten year old Emma Moore took the
lead as Matilda. Ms Moore is an enormously talented young actor with a charming singing voice to
match. She combines in the role intelligent confidence with a certain intellectual aloofness she also
achieved a lovely mixture of solemnity and mischief as the heroine who discovers that to beat the
wicked adults you sometimes have to be a little bit naughty , and she gets maximum value from the
songs too. A moment from Ms Moore that stands out the most for me is when she is talking in sync

Literature Review On Special Needs
Literature Review
My action research project was influenced by the national push towards inclusion of children with
special needs into the general education classroom. Because our school was trying to adopt a co
teaching program, this was the area I did most of my research on. I found a multitude of studies that
supported co teaching and analyzed the effects of co teaching on students, teachers and parents. I then
researched the affects of a non inclusive environment on all students. After witnessing how my
students self esteem had plummeted due to their specific grouping, I was not surprised to find research
that supported the theory that students who are identified as having special needs will have lower self
esteem and self worth. In a study done on students with special needs, all of them reported thinking
they would be unable to attend mainstream classes because they did not feel they were successful
learners based on their placement in special education (Griffiths, 2007). This study also revealed the
children with special needs held fears that all adults would think of them as troublemakers because the
classes they were in held a high majority of children with behavior problems (Griffiths, 2007). This
study concentrates on students who attend schools for special needs. These students may feel more
isolated than those who receive special services inside a mainstream school, but those who are
evaluated or receive special education within a mainstream school show the

The Capote Character Analysis
Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his
true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are
innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger
and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using
juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her
dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and
and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased
in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it
had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring
and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded
down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocence of Bonnie, the
dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and
therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most
upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family,
but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus
Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton.
Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed
during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter
property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that
Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to
be burned.. [along with] blood soiled bedclothes, mattresses, a bedside rug, a Teddy bear doll (Capote
78). These items, representing the larger whole of the Clutter property, symbolize everything the

Confederate Flag Is America s Swastika
Confederate Flag In The Hill, a top U.S. political magazine, in June 2015, Contributor H. A. Goodman
wrote, The Confederate flag is indeed America s swastika. In the same way the Jewish community
sees the swastika as a painful reminder of the Holocaust, the African American community perceives
the flag as a reminder of slavery and racial discrimination. The Confederate flag, a relic of the
devastating Civil War, has become one of the most controversial and contentious icons in American
history. The debate over the flying of the Confederate flag is in regard to the Southern Civil War ideals
of slavery and white racial superiority that historians have agreed the flag represents. Supporters of the
Confederate flag argue that as a symbol of Southern pride, honor, and character, the flag is a reminder
of the South s distinctive and rich history. Opponents of the flag contend that rather than a symbol of
southern bravery, the Confederate flag symbolizes the racist, hateful ideas of the Confederacy. The
Confederate flag, a clear symbol of white superiority, prejudice, and slavery, should not be allowed to
be perpetuated by the government in a society where those ideals should be long gone. The discord
over the Confederate flag is rooted in wider debate over the causes of the Civil War and the ideals the
flag symbolizes. With the high likelihood of Abraham Lincoln winning the 1860 presidential election,
many of the Southern States became worried with the very real possibility

Computer Hackers and Ethics Essay
What comes to mind when you hear the word hacker ? For most it means stealing information through
the Internet, gaining illegal access to another person s PC, or simply disruptive behavior using a

it by a bad experience or through the news and media. The idea of hacking that is stuck in the minds
of people is that of which they have seen in the movies. The movies portray hackers as young and

the penny as a dime and a free call could be made. Curiosity of how the phone worked led to an
interest in the computers that controlled the phones, which in turn led to hacking. Most of the earlier
computer break ins came from company employees seeking revenge or financial gain. For example, in
1971 disgruntled employees of the Honeywell Corporation disabled the Metropolitan Life computer

were also earlier hacks that were beneficial. One of the most successful hacks in history was that of

Ice Cream Lab
Did the solid Ice Cream Formation Change Based on Type of Salt Use?
Purpose
The purpose of the lab was to identify how the different types of salt applied to ice effect the amount
of solid ice cream formed.
Background Research
Ice cream is a solution with a lower freezing point than H2O therefor regular ice cannot lower the
temperature enough for solid product to form (Science Matters). Lowering the temperature farther is
the job of salt. NaCl (salt) will dissolve in water (or ice in this case) to form a solution with a lower
freezing point. The Fahrenheit system is based off salt solutions with 0° F being the point where a salt

Salt was mined out of large salt flats that were the remains of ancient sea s that had dried up.
Nowadays salt is produced both by mining old lakes and drying up newer lakes. Harvesters will flood
a shallow area with salt water and wait for the water to evaporate. When the designated area is dry
workers just scrape up the remaining salt. Salt is used to lower the temperature and unless it is created
in a lab, which is not a cost effective was to obtain salt, the mining and harvesting causes verities of
salt. Sea salt is obtained simply by harvesting dry sea s; this can be done by both mining and farming.
Sea salt varies widely and contains many other trace mineral and elements (Health Nut). Kosher salt is
small, purer flakes of salt compacted if mined or grown via the evaporation process (Health Nut). The
differences in Kosher Salts and Sea Salts are explored in their ability to create solid product from an
Ice Cream solution.

Essay On Residency Coordinator
I have always known that the opportunity to help people will be the most important quality in my
future occupation. Being a social and helpful person, I never miss an opportunity to help someone in
need because I enjoy seeing a smile on someone s face who was worried only a few minutes prior and
to know that you had a role in helping this person is the most satisfying pleasure in the world to me.
As I was choosing a field, I was certain in one thing, I wanted an occupation that would give me a
chance to use my intellectual potential and enthusiasm to help others. Once I complete my bachelor s
degree, an entry level position that I could apply to would be the position of a Residency Coordinator.

Challenges Faced By The World Today
CONCLUSION
Security is one of the major challenges that is being faced by the world today, as seen by continuous
revelations about breaches and incidents. On this note of insecurity and unpredictability, banking
industry is keen to redefine its approach to security thereby making an attempt to balance three critical
factors i.e. cost, innovation and risk. On parallel grounds, the domain of internal security is
undergoing drastic changes that mandates banking institutions to embrace new set of skills and
practices. Fraud can be categorized as a business risk it is like a sword of Damocles over a bank s
future. This must change for the good. The rapid pace with which the technology is changing, like the
recent explosion of cellular customers, is often entailed by necessary evils. An unstoppable tsunami is
engulfing banks with their employees and clients carrying their private electronic gadgets to work.
Similarly, applicants for BYOD has surged and simultaneously it accelerates the rate of security
threats, both ethically and technologically. Online banking proves to be the antithesis of all the
innovations of security professionals due to their identifiable features such as their mobility, richness
in data and susceptibility to theft.
Threat modelling and vulnerability assessment offers new insights that facilitates a more pro active
approach to security, provided organizations pay equal focus to the ever growing market of potential
threats. It should be acknowledged that

Hyperhidrosis Research Paper
It is normal to sweat when you are hot, being physical active, or feeling anxious. Sweating is a
necessary function for your body. However, hyperhidrosis is when you sweat too much or excessively.
Although hyperhidrosis is not dangerous, it can make you feel embarrassed and affect your social
interactions. There are two kinds of hyperhidrosis: Primary hyperhidrosis. This is the more common
type of hyperhidrosis. The sweating usually localizes in one part of your body, such as your
underarms, or a few areas, such as your feet, face, armpits, and hands. Secondary hyperhidrosis. This
type affects your entire body. CAUSES The cause of your hyperhidrosis depends on the kind you

Calypso was the woman who saved Odysseus she kept him in her island for seven years she made him
his lover, but he never felt the same way about her he always would think about the day that he would

The Case Of Gonzalez Vs. Raich
The case of Gonzalez vs. Raich in 2005 caught the interest of many people. Angel Raich is a
California resident who has a medical condition that causes her to be in excruciating pain. Angel s
physician had tried numerous treatments and medicines to help her with the pain, but nothing has
seemed to work. In 1996 voters in the State of California voted that the use of marijuana for medicinal
purposes should be legal. In November 1996 the law was put into use. Angel s physician decided to
try marijuana for her condition. The use of the medical marijuana had alleviated Angel s pain. That

The high ruling of the case decided that she was guilty until further pressed when the Ninth circuit,
then ruled that the medicinal use of marijuana did not substantially affect intrastate commerce and that
Congress had no ruling in this case. I agree with the ending decision of the case. It is my opinion that
if a physician prescribes a prescription that is helping cure the problem, then it should be the patients
right to take these actions to survive. In today s society the legalization of medicinal use of marijuana
is becoming more common amongst the states. There are 24 states that recognize and accept patient
registry or ID cards for medicinal use. Out of these 24 states, California is the only state to not have a
specification on the condition you have to have to get prescribed a patient ID. Epilepsy is the main
condition that the other 23 states recognize as a condition worthy of prescribing the use of medicinal
cards. Of the 24 states only Colorado and Washington allow citizens to use the drug recreationally.
One of the main supporting arguments held for legalizing marijuana was that by taxing the drug it
would bring in budgets for things such as money needed for schools, also much needed money in the
health care field. It also would give the opportunity to free up police resources. One valid point was
that

Examples Of Narrative Techniques In To Kill A Mockingbird
Narrative technique is one of the major techniques in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird. Narrative
technique is the methods that writers employ to give specific artistic and emotional impacts to the
story. Narrative s works provide an account of connected events. Narrative is synonym to a story.
Novels, dramas, fables, folk tales, short stories, poetry, and else are considered narratives. Likewise
literature, narratives are found in cinema, music, and theatre. Narrative literary technique is as well
acknowledged as literary devices. Narrative techniques provide profounder meaning for the reader and
help the reader to use imagination to visualize events. Narrative technique consists of four main

Victorian Visual Imagination
Carol T. Christ and John O. Jordan first used the term Victorian visual imagination in 1995 in their
book Victorian literature and the Victorian Visual Imagination and Kate Flint re used it five years later
in her book The Victorians and the Visual Imagination. Christ and Jordan explain that aesthetic
theorists in nineteenth century Britain regarded the eye as the pre eminent organ of truth and that
poetic theory of the nineteenth century hailed the inward eye and the poet s power of painting a
picture to the inward eye , thus creating a word painting (xxii xxiii). The painting of pictures in one s
mind s eye is seen in the poetry of Alfred Lord Tennyson where his extensive descriptions of Nature
are used to produce what Henry James called the illusion of life (Christ and Jordan xx).

culture. Flint states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

At mid century, Tennyson and Browning had evolved a distinct poetics from their Romantic roots:
representation of a singular subjectivity in a dramatic context that allows ironic distance and
implication; use of visual detail to mediate between subjective and objective ideas of perception;
experiments with perspectives to generate large poetic forms with ambition of social and philosophical

Social Darwinism Is An Ideology Of Society
Social Darwinism is an ideology of society that seeks to apply biological concepts of the laws of
evolution by natural selection of evolutionary theory to sociology and politics, often with the
assumption that conflict between groups in society leads to social progress as superior groups
outcompete inferior ones. How we got to the point of coining the modern term of Social Darwinism
we would have to turn to the famous man himself, Charles Darwin.
At first glance, Charles Darwin seems an unlikely revolutionary. Born in 1809, Charles grew up a shy
and unassuming member of a wealthy British family. He appeared, at least to his father, to be lazy and
directionless. But even as a child, Darwin expressed an interest in nature. Later in 1831, ... Show more

These better adapted beings, which contribute so much to the genetic complement of following
generations of their population, are said to have greater reproductive fitness. Hence the use, and
popularization, of the phrase: survival of the fittest. (This expression is often attributed to Charles
Darwin and, although it appears in the fifth edition of his Origin of Species, 1869, it is there attributed
to Herbert Spencer.)
By fittest , of course, Spencer and Darwin didn t have in mind the commonly used meaning of the
word now, that is, the most highly qualified and/or physically adequate. The fittest referred to here, are
those animals which are the most suited to their environment, that is, those which are best fitted to
survive.
Not only did Darwin theorize that animals and plants evolved into different species through a process
of natural selection and survival of the fittest , he claimed that humans were animals themselves,
subject to the same selection process that played out in nature . This theory was then applied to
economic life. Attempts to reform society through state intervention or other means would, therefore,
interfere with natural processes; unrestricted competition and resistance of the status quo were in
accord with biological selection. The poor were the unfit and should not be

The world was, and still is today, immensely seduced by the prosperity gained through the
achievement of the American Dream. Francis Scott Fitzgerald utilized the theme of the American
Dream in the novel The Great Gatsby to illustrate the nation s obsession with success in the eyes of
society. Fitzgerald achieved the theme through the comparison of his own life and love story to the
legendary tale of Jay Gatsby that he created. Furthermore, Fitzgerald draws from the historical time

Fitzgerald utilized elements of the Jazz Age in The Great Gatsby to magnify the nation s addiction to
pleasure and prosperity. During the Jazz Age, a new, less restricted, outlook on life for women was
present( Historical Context: The Great Gatsby) . This was exemplified in the novel through the
character of Jordan Baker, a woman who was an athlete in a professional field. Nick Carraway, the
story s narrator, noted the following of Jordan s achievement s: At first I was flattered to go places
with her, because she was a golf champion, and everyone knew her name (Fitzgerald 57). Baker,
nonetheless of her dishonesty, was a successful woman that utilized her newfound freedom to produce
prosperity. Jordan Baker is not the only character in the novel to find prosperity during this era, as the
novel sheds light on the fixed World Series of 1919. Arnold Rothstein, a gambler, aided the Chicago
White Sox s in throwing the World Series, ( Historical Context: The Great Gatsby). In the novel, the
character of Meyer Wolfsheim is molded after Rothstein. Nick compares Wolfsheim s actions to the
single mindedness of a burglar blowing a safe (Fitzgerald 73). The comparison calls to mind the
recklessness of people during the Jazz Age that unlocked great fortune. People s recklessness during
the Jazz Age reached its greatest heights when congress passed the eighteenth amendment, banning
alcohol and sparking a series of illegal corporations that benefited from the nation s mistake
(Historical Context: The Great Gatsby). Prohibition is evident through various character s speculation
of Gatsby s illegal selling of alcohol (Fitzgerald 61). It is furthermore believed by Tom Buchanan that
Gatsby has acquired his money through bootlegging. He stated, I picked him for a bootlegger the first
time I saw him, and I wasn t far wrong (Fitzgerald 133). Prosperity is visible through Gatsby success

Sexism In The Chocolate War
On March 22nd, 1972, America finally passed the 19th Amendment which equalized women in the
United States. In 1974, The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier was published, while women continued
fighting against the sexual discrimination that was happening within our country. NOW (National
Organization for Women) was in full effect striving to protect women s rights as they are today. This
novel not only contributed against the women s rights movement, in some opinions, it also almost
excludes women all together. In The Chocolate War, an immense undertone of sexism exists as no
definite feminine roles are prominent; the women featured in the novel are sexualized, the boys are

Importance Of Human Factors In Aviation
Introduction Human factors is the study of Human behaviour that has roughly been around for 2000
years. The study is based on how Humans behave physically and psychologically. In Aviation, human
factors have been applied since the last 70 years. The definition of human factors from the point of
aviation, means the same but in respect to the ergonomics of technology and the flight crew, within the
aircraft. The information is then converted into training, procedures and systemizing routines of the
flight crew simply in order for the safety and for the wellbeing of the crew and the society. Crew
health and lifestyle is essential when it comes to the wellbeing and the performance is vital to its
limitations, throughout the journey of the aircraft. When spoken about the word safety, it is often
associated about how boring or repetitive it is in the modern world yet the Aviation industry. Safety is
the freedom from any dangers. It is a word that people should take seriously and should be a preaching
word to change any ill practises. In the world of Aviation where mishaps would occur at any given
moment, the educated personnel are taught not to ever rely on luck, when it comes to safety. It all
comes down to the welfare of the individual, the welfare of the company that associates with the
individual and the family of the individual. That is the reason why safety is so critical and is one of the
very first things that is taught in every class, job or even at home. This

conditions of the Turing Test are not well defined. For example, it doesn t say what type of questions

can be passed by a simple AI system. Today s AI systems can do more than hold a conversation. Last,

A basic problem was JetBlue s communication system. The ice storm had left a large portion of the
airline s pilots and flight attendants far from where they needed to be to operate the planes, and
JetBlue lacked the trained staff that was needed to find them and tell them where to go. Another
problem was the reservation system; the system was so overwhelmed that customers were unable to
get through to human agents to check on a flight.
4 Did the airline handle the crisis well? Why or why not? What else could JetBlue have done to
improve the situation?
I believe the situation was handled well, because after the February 14th delays, JetBlue executives
developed a passenger Bill of Rights to help deal with the situation if it happens to arise again. The
Bill of Rights provides real compensation for delays and cancellations, and it is believed to be
stronger, deeper, and much more defined than any other customer commitments you could find in the
airline industry.
Although there was no way JetBlue could have prevented the cancelled flights due to bad weather,
they should have had risk management plan in effect addressing ice storms before this incident
occurred. Another solution to the problem would be to park incoming flights near the gate and send a
bus out to pick up the passengers. This way they wouldn t have to wait in the plane until a gate is
available or call other airlines and see if they can use there

Anomalies are with respect to the temperature observed at 600 km away from storm center at each

Relative to the chosen background, the LS cooling occurs at 17 km above sea level or about 100 mb as

The horizontal resolution is 4 km. While the evolution of the intensity of TCs is rather symmetric
about the time of first LMI (personal communications with John Knaff), the convective structure is
not: the coldest cloud tops occur prior to first LMI. Brightness temperatures between 4 and 2 days are
associated with the presence of deep convective outbursts within a few hundred kilometers of storm
center. Between 2 and 0 days, brightness temperatures are consistent with the formation of a sustained
ring of deep convective clouds between the outer edge of the eye and 100 km away from storm center
(e.g., Heymsfield et al. [2001], Emanuel [2003]). After 0 days, both the intensity of TC systems and
the heights reached by deep convection decrease rather rapidly, which translates to warmer brightness
temperatures. Compared to Figure 2, the coldest cloud tops occur about 100 km inward of the coldest
temperature anomalies at first LMI. Warmer brightness temperatures within 30 km of storm center at 0
days correspond to the clear moat observed inside the eyewall [Willoughby, 1998].

Langston Hughes, An African American Writer
Langston Hughes, an African American writer who interpreted to the world the black experience in the
US and portrayed them with skill and insight, was born February 1st, 1902 into the home of the couple

  • 2. California Is Going On A Four Year Drought California is going on a four year drought, having many devastating implications that are being felt by everyone in the state. The population hit the hardest has been the farmers of California. California, being economically driven by its agricultural production, is losing hundreds of thousands of jobs every year due to the lack of water. Farmers use 80% of water the state produces, directly influencing their production (Mieszkowski, 2014). The country heavily relies on California for much of its produce such as tomatoes, nuts, avocados, strawberries, broccoli, grapes and various others (Cooley et al. 2015). In 2014, harvested acreage was 6.9 million acres, the lowest it has been for the past 15 years. Farmers are now being forced to use significantly less land then before, but also ditch old irrigation techniques and implement new techniques to better conserve water; maximizing production as much as possible in order to combat the drought. California is the leading state in agricultural production; however, the state has taken a blow from this four year drought. Farmers have been forced to re evaluate their irrigation systems and make necessary changes to conserve water. In order to judge the agricultural water use efficiency, scientists are using a ratio of evapotranspiration of the crop grown to the water applied to the crop. Evapotranspiration is the total evaporation and plant transpiration from land surface to the atmosphere (Marin et al. 2015). Through various ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Art Of Racing In The Rain Rhetorical Analysis The Art of Racing in the Tears The Art of Racing in the Rain is a novel written in the point of view of an intelligent dog named Enzo. The unique point of view of this novel is what makes it so entertaining and easy to read. Specific scenes that show how Enzo transcends scenes include the zebra scene. Another is when Enzo kills the squirrel. The last is Enzo s dying scene. In the Art of Racing in the Rain, Garth Stein manipulates his style by writing through the unusual point of view of a dog named Enzo, which transcends an ordinary scene into an extraordinary scene, by using specific syntax, diction, and the unique point of view of Enzo. As Enzo was left to starve and hallucinate he encountered the evil zebra. The now living zebra said nothing to me at all, but when it saw me it began to dance, a twisting, jerky ballet which, culminated with the zebra repeatedly thrusting its gelded groin into the face of an innocent Barbie doll. That made me quite angry, and I growled at the molester zebra, but it simply smiled and continue its assault, this time picking on a stuffed frog, which it mounted from behind and rode bareback it s hoof in the air like a bronco rider, yelling out Yee haw! Yee haw! (53). In this passage Enzo witnesses a horrific sight, but if told by through a different point of view, the scene would seem very different. In reality Enzo was seeing illusions but what was really happening was Enzo tearing up a little girl s stuffed animal. Because this scene was told through the point of view of Enzo the scene really enticed the reader and pulled in their attention. Stein used word choice such as molester zebra and gelded groin to simulate a nightmarish scene. Stein also writes his sentences in a way that makes the audience read in a rapid yet fearful way by using syntax. Examples of this are the excessive use of commas and short/easy pronounceable words. The now living zebra said nothing to me at all....into the face of an innocent Barbie doll . Because of Enzo s genuine fear and anxiety, this scene is transformed into an exciting, fearful scene because it is told through the point of view of Enzo. Another scene where the perspective Enzo provides changes a scene is when he kills the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, if we were advertising a job that we recently had in the Coventry area starting on the 24th April 2014, we wouldn t put a job in the Birmingham area starting on the 16th January 2014 as this would lead to having no relevant candidates applying for the job. 2.3 Explain the purpose of confidentiality and security when dealing with callers The purpose of confidentiality and security when on the phone to callers is so that no one irrelevant to the business gets that information. For example maybe when on the phone to a candidate and asking for personal details about their current phone number for example, if someone who wasn t working in the business was in the room you wouldn t repeat the number back to them as the person who isn t relevant could then have that information to use. 2.4 Describe the ... • 5. Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon Victoria Sirianni Ms. Thompson AP ELA 4 21 July 2015 Song of Solomon Producing the plot with a vivid image and motive allowed Toni Morrison to incorporate numerous literary works to enhance the allusions in the story. These specific allusions gave readers a more accurate understanding of certain aspects of the book. As well as this, readers are capable of searching beyond just the surface of what the words say. The common use of biblical references and myths, as well as other notations, provide a more in depth and detailed analyzation throughout the entire novel. To start off, Song of Solomon s title relates to the biblical book of the same name. This emphasizes that the novel addresses more of an old aged theme. The bible based book focuses on a conversation between two lovers and Toni s novel is a celebration of the success of earthly love. Morrison also gives her characters biblical names in order to match them with the well known figures. These characters not only obtain their original history, but the history that their name carries in the Bible, as well. For example, the biblical character, Hagar, is Sarah s handmaiden, who bears Sarah s husband a son and is then banished from his sight. Similar to the previous one mentioned, Morrison s character is often used by Milkman. He takes advantage of everything she has to offer and uses it for his own selfish benefits. He seems to regret ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Chickenpox Vaccination Vaccination is widely considered by many as one of the greatest medical achievements of modern civilisation. Childhood diseases that were common less than a generation ago are now increasingly rare because of vaccines. With the widespread development of chickenpox vaccines throughout the United State and around the world it is expected that the spread of highly contagious and life threatening diseases are on the decline. For the 22 years the chickenpox vaccine has been available in the US, vaccination has already considerably reduced the total number of deaths and the medical costs for treating chickenpox. Prior to the development of the vaccine in 1995 chickenpox affected about 3.9 million people each year in the United States. • 7. Aldo Leopold The Land Ethic Analysis The Land Ethic is an essay written by Aldo Leopald in order to convince readers of a new view centered around the biotic community and the rejection of anthropocentrism. It continually supports non human life along with human life as long as it is beneficial to the biotic community. 1. Carefully explain what Leopold means by the land ethic. When speaking of the land ethic, Aldo Leopold states that A thing is right when it tends to preserve integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it lends otherwise. This is boiled down to a simple point saying that when something is eco friendly, it supports and is the Land Ethic. (p239) Aldo Leopold despises the destruction of the land, therefore this glamorization of the land used in tandem with destruction provided for a very disrespectful and paradoxical view of the land. Why does Leopold believe that a land ethic is both an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity? Evolutionary possibility: an evolution of the moral code. Now including non humans. First ethic: between individuals. Leopald believes that the land ethic is both an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity because throughout the course of philosophy, there has been an evolution from first ethics which dealt with relation between individuals (p238) to a land ethic which now focuses on the relation between humans and non human, morally considerable beings. This transition has been an evolution of sorts and has allowed, for some people, to broaden the view of life, ethics, and how one approaches different scenarios that involve multiple morally considerable beings. The Land Ethic is an ecological necessity because at this point in time humans view the world with an anthropocentric view. This has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This stories show the defenent truth that utopias simply do not exist in real life, just our imagination. Nancy Farmer shows readers through her book The House of the Scorpion that utopias are not real. A person cannot create their utopia by themselves; they might want servants/slave/workers to do their work. More than an increase in productive output, social solidarity is deemed to be the most notable effect of the division of labor. Over time, as roles become more distinct and appropriated according to one s objective, the individuals in a society become more linked to one another. In fact, he tries to make sense of the division of labor as a phenomenon that contributes to social order. Throughout the book, he stresses on how the division of labor creates interdependence between and among individuals which in turn fosters solidarity. The rules through its punishment created by members of society show the similarities that they share. It is believed that mechanical solidarity is primarily present in small traditional societies. In Durkheim s examples in the Division of Labor in Society (1964), communities from the earlier centuries fall under the mechanical solidarity type whereas modern communities are organic. Durkheim (1964) gave ancient Germans as an example where all laws are penal, where the people are the ones who execute justice through punishments. He further shared that in ancient Rome, criminal incidents are also tried by the people (p. 76). Organic solidarity, on the other hand, is the type of solidarity linked to restitutive laws, which creates more specialized organs (p. 113). Unlike mechanical solidarity, which emphasizes on the collectiveness of society, the specialization of organs in organic solidarity seems to highlight more on the differences of individuals. Although this type of solidarity creates individualization, it is still based upon the interdependence of groups and individuals. As specialized as each individual or group s function is, cooperation among them still exists as they need the other to live and grow. The function of each individual usually has relations to one another. This type of solidarity gives rise to the growth of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was here that Assyria started its branching of power and influence to spread its conquests as far south as Egypt and as far east as Asia Minor. The cuneiforms from the Assyrians and the books from the Bible differ greatly in their telling of these stories of the kings and their encounters, especially Sennacherib s writings regarding Judah s conquests verses the chronicles from book of Isaiah 37. The various war tactics of the Assyrian army received many historic mentions as being perverse, cruel and barbaric. However, throughout history these same tactics have been repeated and effective in almost every major military esque nation since. This leads one to ponder if they were setting the bar or establishing a recipe for future failures. A commonality of the tactics in battle from the Assyrian army was to storm a village or society with all their might and force and leave it burning to the ground, taking whatever spoils suited them. Signet Jewelers claims its origins as a single jewelry store in Surrey, England, first opened in 1949 by Leslie Ratner. From this small beginning point, the company slowly acquired a host of other successful jewelry chains, making it increasingly powerful and prominent. At first, all these chains were in England, but eventually, it branched out to America as well, the country would eventually prove to be its most successful market, and likely saved the company when, in the early 1990s, the company seemed to hit a dead end. • 16. Literature Review On Special Needs Literature Review My action research project was influenced by the national push towards inclusion of children with special needs into the general education classroom. Because our school was trying to adopt a co teaching program, this was the area I did most of my research on. I found a multitude of studies that supported co teaching and analyzed the effects of co teaching on students, teachers and parents. I then researched the affects of a non inclusive environment on all students. After witnessing how my students self esteem had plummeted due to their specific grouping, I was not surprised to find research that supported the theory that students who are identified as having special needs will have lower self esteem and self worth. In a study done on students with special needs, all of them reported thinking they would be unable to attend mainstream classes because they did not feel they were successful learners based on their placement in special education (Griffiths, 2007). This study also revealed the children with special needs held fears that all adults would think of them as troublemakers because the classes they were in held a high majority of children with behavior problems (Griffiths, 2007). This study concentrates on students who attend schools for special needs. These students may feel more isolated than those who receive special services inside a mainstream school, but those who are evaluated or receive special education within a mainstream school show the ... • 17. The Capote Character Analysis Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocence of Bonnie, the dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family, but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton. Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to be burned.. • 18. Confederate Flag Is America s Swastika Confederate Flag In The Hill, a top U.S. political magazine, in June 2015, Contributor H. A. Goodman wrote, The Confederate flag is indeed America s swastika. In the same way the Jewish community sees the swastika as a painful reminder of the Holocaust, the African American community perceives the flag as a reminder of slavery and racial discrimination. The Confederate flag, a relic of the devastating Civil War, has become one of the most controversial and contentious icons in American history. The debate over the flying of the Confederate flag is in regard to the Southern Civil War ideals of slavery and white racial superiority that historians have agreed the flag represents. Supporters of the Confederate flag argue that as a symbol of Southern pride, honor, and character, the flag is a reminder of the South s distinctive and rich history. Opponents of the flag contend that rather than a symbol of southern bravery, the Confederate flag symbolizes the racist, hateful ideas of the Confederacy. The Confederate flag, a clear symbol of white superiority, prejudice, and slavery, should not be allowed to be perpetuated by the government in a society where those ideals should be long gone. The discord over the Confederate flag is rooted in wider debate over the causes of the Civil War and the ideals the flag symbolizes. Purpose The purpose of the lab was to identify how the different types of salt applied to ice effect the amount of solid ice cream formed. Background Research Ice cream is a solution with a lower freezing point than H2O therefor regular ice cannot lower the temperature enough for solid product to form (Science Matters). Lowering the temperature farther is the job of salt. NaCl (salt) will dissolve in water (or ice in this case) to form a solution with a lower freezing point. The Fahrenheit system is based off salt solutions with 0° F being the point where a salt solution freezes. By adding salt to the ice surrounding the Ice Cream solution the ice begins the process of melting (Elementary Science Program). The free indirect speech is employed, when describes the country Maycomb was an old town, but it was a tired old town when I first knew it (lee ch.1). Furthermore, Scout is remembering and narrating the events in the novel, therefore the reported speech is used as well. For example in the beginning of the novel Scout reporting the event in the past, she says that When he was nearly thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow (lee, ch.1). • 30. Victorian Visual Imagination Carol T. Christ and John O. Jordan first used the term Victorian visual imagination in 1995 in their book Victorian literature and the Victorian Visual Imagination and Kate Flint re used it five years later in her book The Victorians and the Visual Imagination. Christ and Jordan explain that aesthetic theorists in nineteenth century Britain regarded the eye as the pre eminent organ of truth and that poetic theory of the nineteenth century hailed the inward eye and the poet s power of painting a picture to the inward eye , thus creating a word painting (xxii xxiii). The painting of pictures in one s mind s eye is seen in the poetry of Alfred Lord Tennyson where his extensive descriptions of Nature are used to produce what Henry James called the illusion of life (Christ and Jordan xx). Both objective and subjective accounts of perception in Victorian poetics anchor themselves in the visual. Ruskin s conviction was that the poet s responsibility is to provide a true account of the appearances of things. At mid century, Tennyson and Browning had evolved a distinct poetics from their Romantic roots: representation of a singular subjectivity in a dramatic context that allows ironic distance and implication; use of visual detail to mediate between subjective and objective ideas of perception; experiments with perspectives to generate large poetic forms with ambition of social and philosophical statement; and an embrace of elaboration Ruskin s assertion that accurate, honest visual representation would be sufficient to penetrate nature s meaning , in ... • 31. Social Darwinism Is An Ideology Of Society Social Darwinism is an ideology of society that seeks to apply biological concepts of the laws of evolution by natural selection of evolutionary theory to sociology and politics, often with the assumption that conflict between groups in society leads to social progress as superior groups outcompete inferior ones. How we got to the point of coining the modern term of Social Darwinism we would have to turn to the famous man himself, Charles Darwin. At first glance, Charles Darwin seems an unlikely revolutionary. Born in 1809, Charles grew up a shy and unassuming member of a wealthy British family. He appeared, at least to his father, to be lazy and directionless. But even as a child, Darwin expressed an interest in nature. Later in 1831, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These better adapted beings, which contribute so much to the genetic complement of following generations of their population, are said to have greater reproductive fitness. Hence the use, and popularization, of the phrase: survival of the fittest. (This expression is often attributed to Charles Darwin and, although it appears in the fifth edition of his Origin of Species, 1869, it is there attributed to Herbert Spencer.) By fittest , of course, Spencer and Darwin didn t have in mind the commonly used meaning of the word now, that is, the most highly qualified and/or physically adequate. The fittest referred to here, are those animals which are the most suited to their environment, that is, those which are best fitted to survive. Not only did Darwin theorize that animals and plants evolved into different species through a process of natural selection and survival of the fittest , he claimed that humans were animals themselves, subject to the same selection process that played out in nature . This theory was then applied to economic life. Attempts to reform society through state intervention or other means would, therefore, interfere with natural processes; unrestricted competition and resistance of the status quo were in accord with biological selection. The study is based on how Humans behave physically and psychologically. In Aviation, human factors have been applied since the last 70 years. The definition of human factors from the point of aviation, means the same but in respect to the ergonomics of technology and the flight crew, within the aircraft. The information is then converted into training, procedures and systemizing routines of the flight crew simply in order for the safety and for the wellbeing of the crew and the society. Crew health and lifestyle is essential when it comes to the wellbeing and the performance is vital to its limitations, throughout the journey of the aircraft. When spoken about the word safety, it is often associated about how boring or repetitive it is in the modern world yet the Aviation industry. Safety is the freedom from any dangers. It is a word that people should take seriously and should be a preaching word to change any ill practises. In the world of Aviation where mishaps would occur at any given moment, the educated personnel are taught not to ever rely on luck, when it comes to safety. The ice storm had left a large portion of the airline s pilots and flight attendants far from where they needed to be to operate the planes, and JetBlue lacked the trained staff that was needed to find them and tell them where to go. Another problem was the reservation system; the system was so overwhelmed that customers were unable to get through to human agents to check on a flight. 4 Did the airline handle the crisis well? Why or why not? What else could JetBlue have done to improve the situation? I believe the situation was handled well, because after the February 14th delays, JetBlue executives developed a passenger Bill of Rights to help deal with the situation if it happens to arise again. The Bill of Rights provides real compensation for delays and cancellations, and it is believed to be stronger, deeper, and much more defined than any other customer commitments you could find in the airline industry. Although there was no way JetBlue could have prevented the cancelled flights due to bad weather, they should have had risk management plan in effect addressing ice storms before this incident occurred. Another solution to the problem would be to park incoming flights near the gate and send a bus out to pick up the passengers. This way they wouldn t have to wait in the plane until a gate is available or call other airlines and see if they can use there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Between 2 and 0 days, brightness temperatures are consistent with the formation of a sustained ring of deep convective clouds between the outer edge of the eye and 100 km away from storm center (e.g., Heymsfield et al.
