students in the team including a student from different cultures. I was one of students who joined
the football teamin high school. As a Nepali refugee who had never heard of football until he came
to America, the transition to play for my school team was not easy. I entered a discourse
community of my High School FootballTeam by developing my knowledge about football,
communicating, and making friends with team members from different culture and social
group. My journey to the school team was hard, but it was worth. I became part of a football
team because students are taught to be responsible and mature in the team. Joining a football
team was a great opportunity for me to make a lifelong friendship with other players learning
about leadership, communicating, and working with a team. Just like other players, I played
with a hope of getting a scholarship for college. I began with desired to become a true member of
this community, but I was so determined that I end up leading a team by becoming a team
captain. Therefore, it is important for everybody to learn the experiences of others because there
might be somebody out there who wants to be part of any team, but maybe they are afraid to step
up to join that team thinking he or she is different among all. It doesn t matter who you are,
