Clipperton Island
An island located in the Pacific about 700 miles southwest of Acapulco. Clipperton is a circular coral
atoll of 2 square miles, completely with a lagoon. Temperatures are tropical and the vegetation
includes scrub, wild tobacco, and some coconut trees. The only known structures on the island are the
ruins of a 19th century lighthouse and a tuna fishing station. 115 species of fish have been identified in
the vicinity of the island.
On September 14, 2016 I had a plan to go to a field trip with my friend Bella, both of us were

Sparta Swot Analysis
Most societies that focus on one specific thing is pretty much setting themselves up to crumble to the
ground. One example is Sparta, Sparta lacked many many things to be a successful society, which is
why they only lasted 300 years. Sparta lacked education, they abused their children, and took them
away to harsh army training at such a young age. Sparta banned all foreign education from their city
state, and they only taught reading and writing for purely practical reasons, they also never let in any
foreign teachers into Sparta to teach. They abused their children too, every time a child was caught
stealing food, which they encouraged and said it was ok, they would whip them almost to the point of
death. The strengths in Sparta never even had a chance at outweighing the weaknesses for those
reasons. To start off, Spartans were never taught formal education, Sparta focused on their military
almost all the time, they were taught practical reading and writing, and were never allowed foreign
teachers and were never allowed to travel to other places. It says in Document D that all other forms
of education were banned from the country . They felt that if they allowed other people from other
areas into their country, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it says in Document B, boys were whipped to the point of death when they were caught trying to
steal food. This is a weakness because it can kill innocent kids, the reason they are innocent is because
they are encouraged to steal, plus the people in the agoge starve them half to death! This is completely
wrong and kids starve because of the harsh conditions in the agoge system of Sparta, also there is a
competition every year called The Flagellation . The Flagellation was extremely stupid because kids
were whipped and beaten senseless, while their families told them that if they died or passed out that
they weren t proud of them! Both of these reasons play a huge part in why Sparta fell to the

You Think Would Happen When You Put Salt In The Boiling...
Investigation Plan
Problem
When you boil a pot of water on the stove, it takes a while until it boils. What do you think would
happen if you put salt in the boiling pot of water? When ice forms on the streets, it can be dangerous
and cause accidents. What do you think would happen if we put salt on the streets before the water
froze?
Hypothesis
When you put salt in a pot of boiling water, that will raise the temperature of the water, and the water
will boil faster. When you put salt on the streets before the water freezes, the salt will cause the water
to freeze at a lower temperature. This makes it to where the ice takes longer to freeze.

The Rise of Papacy
The rise of the papacy came at a time when the Roman Empire collapsed and there was chaos as it
related to the bishops who held office in Rome and what religion would be at the forefront of the
representation of the west or east of Rome since its demise. The term papacy (papatus), meant to
distinguish the Roman bishop s office from all bishoprics (episcopatus), and The Head of the Roman
Catholic Church the pope is considered the successor of Peter and the vicar of Christ (Elwell, p. 888).
The pope is a terms of endearment which means father and this was the title of the most important and
influential bishops in the early church. The church at Rome nevertheless enjoyed and wanted to

He used the income from various estates to pay the barbarians and he gave the churches, hospitals and
schools. Pope Gregory I actively intervened in the affairs of other bishops by settling disputes which
help elevate the Church of Rome back into the divine order and prestige of Papacy as the ruler of the
city Rome. Pope Gregory had a heart of humility because he saw so Barbarian slaves in the Roman
market and he sent Augustine Hippo to England to help them from bondage. By him sending
Augustine it broke the chains and traditions of most popes in office and this was another way that the
Papacy s authority had increased in power and direct authority over missionaries and their territories.
He is counted as one of the Church Fathers like Jerome, Augustine, an Ambrose. He has written books
and a Gregorian chant. He is the epitome of what leadership in Rome and abroad looks like.
Charlemagne and the Carolingians inherited land that retained some of the attributes of Roman
administration, specifically laws and systems of taxation. The Frankish culture was not urban and as a
result in the early Middle Ages we see a general decline of urban life.
The reign of Charlemagne (742 814) was that of a transition from classical to medieval civilization.
Charlemagne ruled the Frankish kingdom from 771 814 which is and was a forty years span because

Block Schedule
As a student who has participated in high school sports and taken multiple AP and honors level
classes, I know the challenges that accompany the standard school schedule. Practices and games for
the basketball team took up over three hours of my time six days every week. During school days, I
had to leave my fifth period early when I had games, taking away from my valuable learning time.
This forced me to try to learn the material that I had missed during the time I was participating in an
event that allowed me to represent my school district. This, accompanied by the homework of all my
classes, led to my loss of sleep. During my freshman year, I went to bed around 12 A.M. every night
and woke up at 6:30 A.M. the next day, allowing me three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to a U.S. News report, the top two schools in California are Whitney High School and
Stockton Collegiate International Secondary School. When I looked over their schedules, I found that
both of these schools follow a block schedule and, while it may seem like a distant goal, these schools
represent the possible advancement of the LCHS district if given the opportunity to explore the block
schedule. Dr. Nesa Sasser of the Hearst Newspaper, recently wrote an article about the benefits and
downfalls of the block schedule. She wrote that, by starting a block period schedule, teachers will be
able to plan lessons more effectively, connect with their students on a deeper level, and there will be
better time management. During block periods, teachers become less limited in how they plan their
lesson. They are able to go in depth about concepts that are important and are given time to give
examples to further the students comprehension of these topics. Using these examples, teachers are
then able to see where the class is falling short, and reteach confusing lessons, allowing for a greater
understanding of the overall subject. By decreasing the amount of classes per day, students would then
be able to focus on the homework they are given for their next classes, reducing the amount of
homework they have to complete and the information that needs to be learned for that specific night.
Students will also be able to go to sleep earlier, increasing overall health and focus during class,

The Effect Of Child Interaction On Brain Development
The authors of this article, Martha Ann Bell, Annie Bernier, and Susan D. Calkins (2016) set out to
find whether or not early care giving experiences have an effect on brain development. The authors
hypothesized that good childcare, or nurturing, would have a positive effect on synapse formation in
the brain. The authors noted that there has not been a lot of research on the effects of mother infant
interactions on child development thus far. The only cases done at large are those of the severe
situations of child neglect and abuse. They were inspired by Greenough, Black, and Wallace s (1987)
influential propositions pertaining to the experience dependent nature of brain development (Bell et.
al, 2016). There is remarkable plasticity present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sample size was not big enough, toward the end they had under 200 participants in the study. For
a study s results to have much more of a significant impact the sample size has to be quite large. This
was hardly a big study. As for the methods section, they only filmed the mother for two minutes
playing with her infant. Infants brain activity cannot be properly examined with just a two minute
interval of playing with their mother. This short time of interaction can hardly detect a significant
effect on an infant s brain activity. With that being said, this longitudinal study should have gone up
until the age of at least 2 or 3, this study does not really delve into the complete effect of infant mother
interaction if it doesn t show how it effects these children in the future. The authors also found small
sample size as a limitation, stating that the covariates were modest in magnitude due to small sample
size and therefore resulted in a lower statistical power. They also a agreed that the two minute
evaluation wasn t long enough and suggested a few hours as sufficient to detect some sort of positive
correlation. They also believed the controls implemented, previous power and key sociodemographics
held constant in the regression models , may have led to the small magnitude between infant EEG
power and maternal behaviors. These were the only limitations they discussed which they believe

A Report On State Bank Of India
The following are the major findings of the report:
1. It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.1,5.2,5.3 and5.4 that:
Almost 95% of the people in Guwahati have their accounts in State Bank of India. This is because
everyone has the stereotype that State Bank of India is the best amongst all the banks.
The younger generation people are comfortable in banking with the privatized banks while the elder
generation seems to be comfortable with the nationalized banks.
Now a days, it is found that customers are willing to have their accounts in multiple banks rather than
having it in one bank.
When asked about the people about which sector they would prefer banking with, the response was a
mixed one. As most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also other services like statement enquiry, insurance services, mobile and internet banking etc. are
also gaining importance day by day and these have to be looked by the banks seriously.
2. It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.5.1, 5.5.2, 5.5.3, 5.5.4, 5.5.5
and 5.5.6 that:
The various facilities provided by the banks like availability of information brochures, ATM machines
in convenient locations, no long line ups at counters etc. are very important now a days to gain
customer satisfaction regarding the banks they are banking with. Also the customers like a pleasant
and attractive décor within the banks so that they can feel relax while doing their important work with
the banks.
3. It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.6.1, 5.6.2, 5.6.3, 5.6.4, 5.6.5
,5.6.6 and 5.6.7 that:
The manner, appearance, efficiency, professionalism and knowledge of the staffs of the bank also play
an important role in driving customers to their respective banks. The reason is that if the staffs are not
able to handle the queries or problems of the staffs then the customers are not tempted to do banking
with a particular bank. This may be either with a nationalized or a privatized bank.
4. From personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.7, 5.8.1, 5.8.2, 5.8.3, 5.8.4, we can find

Seat Belts Should Be Required
Imagine this, a church bus crashed into a truck the driver and 12 passengers on the bus died not

this is why I feel there should be no seat belts on a bus. Seat belts on a bus should not be required
because of the expense they bring and if there is an emergency it would take longer for the person to

Database Management and Information Retrieval
Differentiate between database management system and information retrieval system by focusing on
their functionalities. Answer
A database management system (DBMS) is the main software tools of the database management
approach because it controls the creation, maintenance and use of the databases of an organization and
its end users. Information retrieval is a system that to provide the relevant information based on the
user needed. This process can be find through the passwords or keywords or query from the users.
Beside provide or find the relevant information towards the query, information retrieval also make a
ranking toward the information. Every document that are provided will have the ranking and the
information that have highest ranking will be known more relevan rather than others. Information
retrieval act as intermediation between the user and the information provided.
Database Management System Information Retrieval

Efficient Society or Vacant Humanity
Extended Definition
Preventing the wasteful use of a particular resource is one of the definitions of the word efficient. The
most common thought when people hear the word efficient is that when something is efficient it is
better than something that by comparison is not as efficient. Now we have gas efficient cars, energy
efficient appliances and as many highly efficiently people would say we are working to have a more
efficient society. What is the cost of more efficiency, in many things of course the more efficient the
better, with more energy efficient cars and appliances we are saving our planet reducing car emissions
make for cleaner air that we all breathe and will make us less reliant on fuel and other natural
resources. Can a real value or cost be put on the human mind and spirit, what happens to people when
they are set aside or determined to be of little or no use, what happens when people begin to question
their own worth in the world.
In Jeremy Rifkin s book Time Wars includes the reading selection The Efficient Society he is
analytical in his explanation of what is being considered to be an efficient society. In the critical
analysis he details the time management scenarios that are addressed to make more efficient workers.
Corporations need to produce more work from each of its workers and the way that the companies

Hello, I am Madeline Mercier. I m a freshman at Community High School, I am currently in the

populations, as well as their Taxa. The class of 2016 took detailed descriptions of the physical
appearance of the creek and surrounding areas. We even tested the water to find necessary information
on the health of the creek through our chemical tests. According to the 2016 Traver Creek Data of

Bank Erosion is at 2.3 out of 4, this proves that the sections banks are getting eroded with particles
dissolving into the waters. Traver Creeks Habitat Diversity grade is 2.5/4, specifically this states that
in some areas the vegetation is less diverse and cannot absorb harmful chemicals before they get to the
creek. These chemicals could harm the organisms greatly in the Creek. Embeddedness which
displaces many organisms by removing their natural habitat, is at 2.7/4. This is strips many organisms
of their grounds and nests as is becomes more and more scarce. The flow rate is at 2.22 ft/s this is a
safe speed for the Creek it s not too fast that organisms get flushed downstream and it s not too slow
that the organisms will suffocate. Once again, but more importantly buffers need to be set in place to

Independent Variables
The following variables based on the literature, were selected for this study:
1. Demographic variables: Age group (65 74; 75 84; 85 and older), Sex (Male; female), BMI
classification (Underweight; Normal weight; Overweight/Obese), Marital status (Married/Common

Variables showing statistically significant associations with a p value 0.25 from the univariate analysis
were first examined for collinearity and then were entered into the multivariate analysis.
Using Proc Surveylogistic , multinomial logistic regression models for the prediction of the single fall
and recurrent falls were conducted, considering non fallers as the reference group. At every step of the
modeling process, a variable selection decision was made using alpha value of 0.05 as the significance
level [28]. When a variable was removed, testing for confounding by comparing the values of the
estimated regression coefficients between the two models at each stage were carried out. Any change
in the regression coefficient values of 20% or more was considered an indication of confounding and
the variable was retained in the model. Based on the literature, all major interactions among the
variables in the model were tested, using 0.05 as the level of significance. Finally, the predictive
power of the model was evaluated using a Cox Snell pseudo R square [29]. Statistical tests were based
on a two tailed level of significance, with an alpha value of 0.05.

Legion of Cyber Crime
Black hat, grey hay, white hat, all terms to identify different classes or cyber criminals, all tied
together under the label of hacker. Whether it is for the greater good or for pure evil, cyber security
seems to be breached every day as the media puts out headlines of major retailers, governments, and
social media sites being broken into for personal information, mockery, or even to instigate real
physical war. The recent surge of technological advances has brought attention to a deadly force once
overlooked by all, the hackers. These individuals commit cyber crimes because they can retain
anonymity, it is easier and less dangerous than a physical crime, and it makes it easy to draw attention
on whatever it is they are attacking, which is why we as a society need to be educated on their motives
and means of attack to protect us from their criminal actions. Criminals seem to be evolving at a
quicker rate than technology, learning lessons from past criminals being caught and/or killed and
adapting to the changing smart society.
Millennials always hear from their parents to be wary of what they post online because it stays there
forever, but the hackers of today laugh at that and are virtually invisible in any crimes they choose to
commit. They are able to keep their anonymity through data encryption, computer zombification, and
deep web browsers. Data encryption is one basic tool used by

Blaise Pascal Fideism
In questioning the existence of God, the ideology of fideism is used to in support the existence of God
with the use of faith. Opposed to other various views, fideism relies on the use of faith and/or
revelation rather than depending single handedly on reason alone. Blaise Pascal is a French
philosopher that approaches the doctrine and beliefs of fideism using his wager argument to confirm
the concept that there is a monotheistic God in existence (269).
Pascal s ideology revolves around the wins and loses of betting. He states that if we do believe in a
God than our chances at happiness are achievable. He adds on saying, under the circumstance that we
do believe in a God, but He does not exist, then there is no much to lose in the end. Although, if we do
not believe that a god exists then they is all the much more to lose and happiness is not achievable.
This essentially means that believing in a God is better than not believing in God at all.
Going into further detail, Pascal begins his argument by explaining that If there is a God, he is
infinitely beyond our comprehension, since having neither parts nor limits, he bears no relation to
ourselves (323). This brings up the question of whether or not humans are able to decide if God is real.
He states that we are stuck between two decisions, two choices, or two infinities. These decisions of
infinities being God existing or God not existing. Pascal mentions that reason alone cannot help us
gravitate towards one decision

Homo Habilis Essay
Homo Habilis
Hominids with a brain absolutely and relatively larger than that of the australopithecines appeared
about 2.3 million years ago. These hominids are classified in our own genus: Homo. The earliest
species to appear was the Homo Habilis. It was the first of our ancestors to show a significant increase
in brain size and also the first to be found associated with stone tools. These characteristics resulted in
this species placement into the human genus, Homo.
Discovery
The first fossil was found in 1960 when a team led by scientists Louis and Mary Leakey uncovered
the fossilized remains of a unique early human at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania.
Because this early human had a combination of features different from those seen in ... Show more

Dental microwear studies suggest that the diet of H. habilis was flexible and versatile and that they
were capable of eating a broad range of foods, including some tougher foods like leaves, woody
plants, roots, berries and some animal tissues (birds and insects), but that they did not routinely
consume or specialize in eating hard foods like brittle nuts or seeds, dried meat, or very hard tubers.
They also were scroungers who even ate dead animals that they found left by other larger predators.
Surviving and Toolmaking
Homo is a Latin word meaning human or man . The word habilis is based on a Latin word meaning
handy or skilful . This species is known as handy man because stone tools were found near its fossil
remains and it is assumed this species had developed the ability to modify stone into tools.
Homo habilis is thought to have mastered the Lower Paleolithic Olduwan tool set which used stone
flakes. These stone flakes were more advanced than any tools previously used, and gave H. habilis the
edge it needed to prosper in hostile environments previously too formidable for primates.
By a method called direct percussion, a core stone called a biface was hit with a hammer stone to
produce flakes. The biface was made into choppers called the Oldawan pebble

Democratic Peace
Paper: Intro. Many different explanations have been brought forth to explain why democracies do not
fight one another . Among academics, the most prominent theories can be divided among three
schools of thought: liberal institutionalist, realist, and liberal constructivist. Beyond academia, often
simplified interpretations of these theories have guided many Great Powers foreign policy decisions.
This paper will first seek to outline what most academics agree to be the empirical correlations
between democracies and war. This paper will then outline and examine the competing theories
behind the Democratic Peace. This paper will argue that although some of the realist critiques are
plausible and should not be entirely dismissed, the liberal constructivist theories offer the most
accurate explanation of why the Democratic Peace exists. This paper will finish by examining the
foreign policy implications of this thesis, with reference to recent and potentially future military
engagements undertaken by today s democratic Great Powers. Despite originally being theorized by

Urban America Research Paper
An article by Wilcox and Wolfinger, Then comes marriage? Religion, race, and marriage in urban
America examine the role that religious participation and the norms and behaviors it promotes plays in
encouraging marriage among new parents in Urban America. This is the first study to offer a
quantitative analysis of the association between religion and marriage among urban mothers.
According to a data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study, Urban mothers who have no

A Country Churchyard And The Deserted Village By Oliver...
The poems Elegy Written in A Country Churchyard. by Thomas Gray, and The Deserted Village, by
Oliver Goldsmith, both lament the current state of society in rural areas. Each poem idealizes rural
life, but offers differing ideas of the people of the villages. Gray s poem talks about the unrealized
Miltons and Cromwells of the poor that were able to live their lives honestly, innocently and the free
of temptation faced by the wealthy. Goldsmith talks of the swain and the tradesmen, and the politics
that force to live in famine or leave their lands. In their poems, Gray mourns what the people could
have been and never did, while Goldsmith grieves for who these people once were and what has
become of them, which makes his poem feel more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the city, there is more opportunity for people to be educated, so talents are more easily discovered
and cultivated, just like gems and flowers in well explored territories. In the country, the unexplored
potential of the people leaves room for so much possibility. This goes against the idea that the people
of the more wealthy urban areas are naturally greater than the rural folks, equalizing them through the
life them never had. Gray continues on his evaluation of these unrealized people by saying that they
are actually blessed because Far from the madding crowd s ignoble strife, / Their sober wishes never
learned to stray (Gray 73 74). They are fortunate to be simple country people, never knowing what
they are missing out on and never having to face the temptations that come with being wealthy and
great. These innocents are free from greed that the wealthy suffer from daily. They blessed to be more
pious due to a lack of education outside of the bible. Overall, their hard lives have been well lived, so
they are better off than those with wicked lives of the wealthy. Death is what gives the hope and value
to the rural lives. Whether a person is wealthy or poor, everyone dies eventually. The ornateness of the
resting place is not what matters, but rather where their soul is received after death. In Gray s Epitaph,

Varicella enters through the respiratory track and mucus membranes. The virus will replicate at the site
of entry, then, during the incubation period the virus spreads to the liver, lungs, lymph nodes, and
finally makes its way to the skin. As the infection progresses, small skin vesicles filled with pus and
infected cell particles form on the skin surface. These lesions are the pox of chickenpox.
Herpes zoster (shingles) cannot be passed from one person to another. However, since the virus that
causes shingles is the same virus that causes chickenpox, unvaccinated individuals can be infected and
present with a primary varicella infection (chickenpox) after coming into contact with a shingles
blister either directly or indirectly.

person with a primary varicella infection (chickenpox) can spread the disease from 1 to 2 days before
they get the rash until 5 to 7 days after blisters have begun to heal.

Analysis Of The Address By Livia Bitton Jackson
I have read several books, poems, and memoirs on WWII and the Holocaust. Diary of Anne Frank,
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I have Lived a Thousand Years, the list goes on and on. Interestingly,
all of the written works I have read only ever talked about what happened during those events, never
after. It seems that majority of authors skip that part. Why? I do not know. Perhaps they think it will
bore readers because it is not as dramatic. Marga Minco, on the other hand, approaches the subject of
what happens after millions of people are killed in an attempted genocide and a horrible war in her
short story, The Address. While The Address may not be as dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years
by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place inside the concentration camp, it certainly
leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took place around that time period. Writing in an
emotionless style shows how these events affected and changed the narrator. The narrator does not
even recognise her own voice and describes it as strange and unnatural . She speaks in a monotone
fashion when the past is brought up because she is not sure how to handle it emotionally. ... Show

says that after the liberation I felt no interest at all in that stored stuff she is actually saying that after

narrator s fear of the past by describing them as things that had been stored in cases and boxes and
were waiting in vain until they would be put back in their places. Her memories want to be
remembered, she wants to remember the past, but it hurts to think about things that had been part of a

The Most Significant Changes to the laws of Iraq after the War in 2003. Iraqi laws have seen constant
changes. Many old laws have been replaced by a new legislation, and other laws have been amended;
first by the US Civil Administrator Paul Bremer, and later by the government of Iraq. And this
happened after the fall of Saddam Hussain`s regime and the occupation of Iraq by the American and
the British forces on 9th April 2003. Paul Bremer issued more than 100 laws and regulations within
one year changing and repealing long established civil and commercial laws. And most of these laws

The Effects Of Environmental Stress On Cell Membranes
Introduction:
The purpose of this experiment was to indirectly study the effects of environmental stress on cell
membranes. Watercourses have been with discarding of domestic and manufacturing, for centuries.
Alarms have only escalated about the ecological alterations in the recent years of what would be the
consequences. Scientists have developed a thorough investigation in search of various man harmful
waste that is damaging the environment of watercourses.
The cell membranes are the utmost essential organelle that surrounds all living cells. Its purpose is to
control what goes in and out of the cells and is accountable for the various other properties of the cells
as well. The nucleus and other organelles also have membranes that are practically indistinguishable.
Membranes are organised in a mosaic arrangement, comprised of carbohydrates, proteins and
phospholipids. This can be seen in Figure 1. The objective of this indirect examination is to study the
causes of various solvents and conducts on live beetroot cells. The reason why beetroot cells have
been selected for this experiment is because they have a big membrane bound central vacuole, as seen
in Figure 2. The red colour anthocyanin, which provides the beetroot its bright colour is located in the
vacuole. The cell membrane encloses the whole beetroot cell. The anthocyanin cannot leak out if the
membranes stay unharmed. The red colour can escape if the membranes are hassled or broken.

Analysis Of George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant
Everyone has a moment in their lives that changes the way they think, or identifies our true views; an
event that reveals a part of them that was never known before then. For example, in the essay
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell, Orwell himself is working as a British police officer in
Burma in the 1920 s. He does not like his job because of his hate for the oppressive nature of the
British government. However, he does take the job seriously. One day, he gets a report about an
elephant tearing through the town. He quickly gets his gun and rides to the scene with his horse. Once
Orwell arrives, the elephant is long gone, but he sees all the damage it has caused, even killing a man
in its rampage. Orwell asks for a larger gun, only to be used as a last resort against the elephant, and
sets off to find the elephant. Many miles away, in a field, the elephant stands. However, it seems to
have calmed down and is now eating as if nothing happened. By this point, Orwell has attracted the
attention of hundreds of the natives, who have followed him in anticipation of seeing him kill the
elephant. Although Orwell did not want to kill the elephant, he felt as though he had to, because of the
position of power he held over the natives. He shoots the elephant, but is not content with his decision.
Orwell believes that it was his position of power in the community that forced him into shooting the
elephant, to avoid looking like a fool. It was through this event in his life that

The Future Of DNA Forensics
Forensics science has had a huge impact on today s legal system making it much easier to identify and
put away criminals. Before being able to identify people by their DNA the court heavily relied on
eyewitness accounts. This was not always the best option seeing that these accounts were not always
accurate. Now however forensics are able to find out someone s identity through something as simple
as a hair follicle. With this new technology not only is it easier prove someone s guilt, it is also easier
to prove one s innocence. For example, Kirk Bloodsworth was sentenced two life sentences in prison
for murder and sexual assault, and after spending 9 years in prison was exonerated by DNA found at
the crime scene proving his innocence. DNA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thanks to the database it is now simple to identify someone by what they left behind at the crime
scene. In 100 years however how much more could DNA forensics improve? With this technology
crime rates are sure to go down a and protecting citizens will become a much easier task for law
enforcement. Though today there is the drawback of someone committing a crime and not being in the
DNA database this could possibly be fixed in the future. What if through DNA found at the crime
scene we were able to discover physical characteristic of the culprit through DNA. If this were
possible the police would be able to have a physical description of the criminal even if they are not in
the database. Another advancement that could be made in the future is the joining of separate
databases. If databases from other countries were to join together it would make it much easier to find
criminals who have escaped to different

The Importance Of Edward Murrow In Good Night And Good Luck
Throughout his journalism career, Edward Murrow fought for what was right, not for what was easy.

Before the 1950s, reporters typically accepted what the government said, and they avoided reporting
disturbing information. In Good Night and Good Luck, Murrow recognized that Americans are
currently wealthy, fat, comfortable, and complacent. We have currently a built in allergy to unpleasant
or disturbing information; our mass media reflect this. The loss of his sponsor and television time slot
shows that Murrow s reports on McCarthy were controversial and disliked by some. Even so, Murrow
did not quit his investigation of McCarthy s actions and accusations. In the film, Murrow also realized
that Americans needed to recognize that television, in the main, is being used to distract, delude,
amuse, and insulate us, then television and those who finance it, those who look at it, and those who
work at it, may see a totally different picture, too late. He understood that the news in the 1950s was
treating Americans like innocent children, but he recognized that this mentality needed to change. He
recognized the importance of hard hitting, factual, and sometimes controversial news since the media

society and to avoid catastrophes before it is too late. He believed that McCarthy was jeopardizing
Americans constitutional rights, and U.S. citizens should have the right to stop injustices and create
change in the government if necessary. Therefore, Murrow was an innovative reporter who risked his

Cinderell Disney Vs. Grimm
Cinderella: Disney Vs. Grimm A beautiful young girl, leaves her two step sisters and her stepmother

Cinderella has been one of the most told bedtime stories of all time. Most people can say they

the many versions of this fantasy tale. The original fairytale of Cinderella, by the Brother s Grimm,
was written in 1812 which had many differences from the Walt Disney version. Like most of Walt
Disney s films, they are produced to capture the attention of a certain type of audience, the young.
Since Disney films are targeted to the young, they conclude with a romance and happy ending.
Unfortunately, because of such endings, the original story is being manipulated taking away from its
original content. One of the scenes that have been changed from its original version are the different
rolls of Cinderella s parents, Cinderella s godmother, Cinderella s character and the stepsisters
punishment for being cruel to Cinderella. I believe that Walt Disney changed some of the original
parts of the Brother s Grimm version of the story due to some the graphic scenes, which did not stay
faithful to the original version of Cinderella. Walt Disney wanted to make the story as kid friendly as
possible to attract more audience. As we grow up we are told by our parents that being kind and

The term reward can be broken up into three separate components: wanting, liking, and learning.
Liking is defined as the actual pleasure component or hedonic impact of a reward. Wanting is defined
as motivation for reward, which includes both (1) incentive salience wanting processes that are not
necessarily conscious and (2) conscious desires for incentives or cognitive goals. Lastly learning is
defined as associations, representations, and predictions about future rewards based on past
experiences (Kringelbach and Berridge 2008). I like the way this paper breaks up the term reward
because it causes you to actually think about which parts of the brain correspond with each defined
term. This paper goes on to talk about how with each component of reward lies a conscious and
unconscious process. Something I found that stuck out was how the paper addresses the challenges the
brain possesses with respect to rewards. The paper states The primary challenge is to identify which
brain systems mediate pleasure versus other components of reward and to map components correctly
onto their own neural substrates (Fig. 1).
This challenge is difficult because a rewarding stimulus or event will elicit many or all of these reward
components simultaneously and so activate many brain systems at the same time (Kringelbach and
Berridge 2008). I see why this can be frustrating. The brain is quite intriguing but it is also confusing.

To concluded, the sodium nitrate was more soluble than the sodium chloride because it took 8.7 grams
to saturate the sodium nitrate, while it took only 2.9 grams to saturate the sodium chloride.
Conclusion: 1.) Are different substances equally soluble in water? Explain.
Different substances are not equally soluble in water because each substance dissolves differently. For
example the sodium nitrate took longer to dissolve than the sodium chloride because they are different
substances. Some substances also may not dissolve at all in water. Also, substances have all different
types of shapes and sizes, and larger substances may take longer to dissolve than smaller ones.
2.) How could you use the property of solubility to help identify the type of matter?
There are many ways that one can use the property of solubility to help identify the type of matter.
One way is to put the matter into water and shake it to see if it is soluble. Another way is to observe
the matter and see the different shapes and colors that it has. Seeing if it is soluble in water and by
observing the colors and shape one can narrow down what type of matter it is.
3.) What were two likely sources of error for this experiment?
There are many likely sources of error that could have occured while doing this experiment. One error
was that some of the substances were spilled on the table. The substances were left on the table
throughout the experiment and it was never cleaned up.

established in 1929 by the Los Angeles police department, using forensic sciences has been pretty
much used in every major crime investigation (What is Forensic Science, p.1). What exactly is
forensic science? According to an article put out by the University of Western Australia, Forensics is
the term given to an investigation of a crime using scientific means. It is also used as the name of the
application of scientific knowledge to legal matters (What is Forensic Science, p.1). Forensics is fairly
open ended; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because injection is a very popular way to use this drug, the transfer of bodily fluids or blood becomes
increasingly high which puts heroin abusers at a very high risk for contraction of HIV or HCV
infection (NIH, par. 8 9). Because of this link, it turns out that drug abuse treatment is an effective way
to prevent the spread of HIV and HCV. It can be conducted from hair based testing if a person was
using heroin which can aid in the diagnoses of drug abuse to determine if a person died of overdose or
to determine if they contracted HIV or HCV through drug use

George Mason University Cover Letter Sample
Dear S CAR Office of Graduate Admissions,
I am writing to express my interest in seeking admissions into the George Mason University s Master
of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution for the Fall 2015 semester. I have completed my online
application and submitted all request materials.
I currently hold a Master of Science in Leadership from South University and a Bachelor of Arts from
Clayton State University. While attending both of these institutions I was heavy engaged in
community outreach and my athletic career as a student athlete and athletics administrator. While
attending Clayton State University I was a fulltime student athlete and often had to withdraw from
classes if I was missing class time due to competition. At South University I was introduced to the
online learning environment; initially I struggled because I started a new job ... Show more content on

In this role, I provide administrative leadership and assist in the day to day operations of 22 Division I
sports programs. My responsibilities include providing competitive oversight for Women s Basketball
and Men s Basketball and further acting as a resource to George Mason University athletics
stakeholders, as well as assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and
procedures essential to achieving success nationally and within the Atlantic 10 Conference. In
addition, my work requires me to analyze, mediate, arbitrate, trouble shoot, and recommend solutions
to all issues as defined by the Assistant Vice President/Director, Intercollegiate Athletics and/or
identified by the Head Coaches. Often times I find myself having to effectively negotiate, resolve, and
identify and recommend solutions to assigned issues, ensuring that such solutions are in accordance
with the Mission of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and George Mason

Dan Savage Character Analysis
Just by looking at him, you aren t going to know that Dan Savage is a newspaper column writer for
The Stranger, that founded It Gets Better, a multimedia organization to inspire and assist LGBTQ+
youth.
People need heroes because everyone needs somebody to look up to. Dan is my hero because not only
is he standing up for a community, but he doesn t have to do anything about the problems in the
community if he doesn t feel like doing it.
In my own opinion, Dan Savage holds the characteristic of brave. He shows bravery when he stands
up for who and what he believes in and that takes bravery since there will always be people against
him and his beliefs in some way or another so he has to be brave enough to stay standing and to
continue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shows compassion by reaching out and helping LGBTQ+ youth with problems they face like
bullying, family rejection, and self harm. I feel that he shows sympathy and/or empathy for the
problems the youth of this community are facing, since he is part of the community himself, and may
have gone through the same problems.
Now, your opinion may be different from mine, and you may not think that Dan could be described as
unprejudiced. Although, he has shown the trait of unprejudiced by starting the It Gets Better
organization. If he was Prejudiced, the organization most likely never would have started. It may have
even been started, but for the complete opposite reason; to go against LGBTQ+ youth, rather than be
for them. However, the past statements are not the case, and he started the organization with the intent
of helping the individuals that need it.
People need heroes because everyone needs somebody to look up to. Dan Savage is my hero on
account of him being brave, compassionate, and unprejudiced. Considering all of the above, Dan
Savage, newspaper column writer for The Stranger, that started the It Gets Better organization for
LGBTQ+ youth, is my hero. Seeing that he holds traits that go towards my definition of the word,
Hero; A leader who can stand up and care about what they believe in without other people s judgement
clouding around their

Foodborne Illness
What is the infectious agent (pathogen) that causes this infectious disease? For example, the name of
the bacteria, virus, or parasite.
The foodborne illness I choose was Salmonella. Salmonella is a bacteria that causes an infection
known as Salmonellosis. A person that is infected with Salmonella gets diarrhea, fever, and abdominal
cramps 12 to 72 hours after being infected. Salmonella usually last four to seven days and most people
recover without treatment. People with severe diarrhea must be hospitalized. The Salmonella can
spread in from the intestines to the bloodstream and other parts of the body and can cause death of not
treated quickly with antibiotics. People with a weak immune system, elderly, and infants are more
likely to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Half the outbreak occurred in Illinois, at various Jimmy John s outlets where people ate sandwiches
containing the sprouts. During the investigation, the FDA took a sample from a water run off that had
bacteria identical to the strain of the Salmonella found in the outbreak.
What are the clinical symptoms, duration of the disease, and treatment if any?
Salmonella symptoms are diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps from 12 to 72 hours after being
infected. The illness usually last four to seven days, and most people infected recover without
treatment. Antibiotics are given to those who develop severe diarrhea from the illness. Individuals
who are infected bowel habits takes several months before it returns to normal. Also, a few people
with Salmonella develop pain in their joints, irritation of the eyes, and painful urination. Which is
called reactive arthritis, it can last for months or years, and can lead to chronic arthritis. The antibiotic
treatment does not change whether or not a person develops arthritis.
What steps can be taken to prevent further outbreaks? Include individual as well as environmental
precautions and methods
There are few tips people can use to avoid outbreaks are properly clean and sterilize kitchen
equipment, cook food thoroughly, and properly store food. Cleaning and sterilizing kitchen equipment
such as cutting boards,

Personal Privacy or National Security
Personal Privacy or National Security
William Shelton
ENG122: English Composition
Prof. Lisa Clark
August 7, 2012
Defining National Security VS Personal Privacy is a matter of looking at the basic nature of each.
From research collected there is a consensus that we need balance. Too much of one hurts the other
and vise versa. There are a couple of articles that range from Civil Liberties to the birth of public right
to know that support the overall claim. Talks about the effects of censorship in different situations like
war and peace will help prove that a balance needs to be forged. The problem here isn t the definition
of personal vs national security, but the survival of each in light of each other. There is history in our
nation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This kind of action is completely unnecessary and undermines our Fourth Amendment. National
security is the ability to protect our borders through homeland security while upholding the rights of
nation. Privacy when openly tampered with is distorted. Nobody acts the same knowingly being
watched. Information finds another way. There have been studies on lesser issues like workers. There
is more productivity when people think they are being watched. The same when our liberties are at
stake. What are people to do when it s done for the wrong reasons? Like when an African American
see s a sign that separates white and color bathrooms. Another would be when the Jews were forced to
where a star then live separately in their own projects. The US jokes about our nation being like
fraternity. Every new group gets picked on. The Jew s for being good with money. The Mexicans for
being illegal s and now it s the Arab s turn. But Arab s are all terrorist somehow. We have seen terror
before from the Unabomber, the KKK, and columbine shooting. How do we keep up with inflation?
The government finds one way to gather information and terrorist adapt. When civil liberties get
trampled in the process more anti American groups rise to the occasion creating more danger inside
America and out. A different example can be Adolf Hitler as a ruthless dictator and his main success
as a dictator was propaganda. It

  • 3. Sparta Swot Analysis Most societies that focus on one specific thing is pretty much setting themselves up to crumble to the ground. One example is Sparta, Sparta lacked many many things to be a successful society, which is why they only lasted 300 years. Sparta lacked education, they abused their children, and took them away to harsh army training at such a young age. Sparta banned all foreign education from their city state, and they only taught reading and writing for purely practical reasons, they also never let in any foreign teachers into Sparta to teach. They abused their children too, every time a child was caught stealing food, which they encouraged and said it was ok, they would whip them almost to the point of death. The strengths in Sparta never even had a chance at outweighing the weaknesses for those reasons. To start off, Spartans were never taught formal education, Sparta focused on their military almost all the time, they were taught practical reading and writing, and were never allowed foreign teachers and were never allowed to travel to other places. The term papacy (papatus), meant to distinguish the Roman bishop s office from all bishoprics (episcopatus), and The Head of the Roman Catholic Church the pope is considered the successor of Peter and the vicar of Christ (Elwell, p. 888). Pope Gregory had a heart of humility because he saw so Barbarian slaves in the Roman market and he sent Augustine Hippo to England to help them from bondage. According to a U.S. News report, the top two schools in California are Whitney High School and Stockton Collegiate International Secondary School. When I looked over their schedules, I found that both of these schools follow a block schedule and, while it may seem like a distant goal, these schools represent the possible advancement of the LCHS district if given the opportunity to explore the block schedule. Dr. Nesa Sasser of the Hearst Newspaper, recently wrote an article about the benefits and downfalls of the block schedule. She wrote that, by starting a block period schedule, teachers will be able to plan lessons more effectively, connect with their students on a deeper level, and there will be better time management. During block periods, teachers become less limited in how they plan their lesson. They are able to go in depth about concepts that are important and are given time to give examples to further the students comprehension of these topics. Using these examples, teachers are then able to see where the class is falling short, and reteach confusing lessons, allowing for a greater understanding of the overall subject. By decreasing the amount of classes per day, students would then be able to focus on the homework they are given for their next classes, reducing the amount of homework they have to complete and the information that needs to be learned for that specific night. They also a agreed that the two minute evaluation wasn t long enough and suggested a few hours as sufficient to detect some sort of positive correlation. Opposed to other various views, fideism relies on the use of faith and/or revelation rather than depending single handedly on reason alone. Blaise Pascal is a French philosopher that approaches the doctrine and beliefs of fideism using his wager argument to confirm the concept that there is a monotheistic God in existence (269). Pascal s ideology revolves around the wins and loses of betting. He states that if we do believe in a God than our chances at happiness are achievable. He adds on saying, under the circumstance that we do believe in a God, but He does not exist, then there is no much to lose in the end. Although, if we do not believe that a god exists then they is all the much more to lose and happiness is not achievable. This essentially means that believing in a God is better than not believing in God at all. Going into further detail, Pascal begins his argument by explaining that If there is a God, he is infinitely beyond our comprehension, since having neither parts nor limits, he bears no relation to ourselves (323). This brings up the question of whether or not humans are able to decide if God is real. He states that we are stuck between two decisions, two choices, or two infinities. Homo habilis is thought to have mastered the Lower Paleolithic Olduwan tool set which used stone flakes. These stone flakes were more advanced than any tools previously used, and gave H. habilis the edge it needed to prosper in hostile environments previously too formidable for primates. By a method called direct percussion, a core stone called a biface was hit with a hammer stone to produce flakes. The biface was made into choppers called the Oldawan pebble ... • 24. Democratic Peace Paper: Intro. Many different explanations have been brought forth to explain why democracies do not fight one another . Among academics, the most prominent theories can be divided among three schools of thought: liberal institutionalist, realist, and liberal constructivist. Beyond academia, often simplified interpretations of these theories have guided many Great Powers foreign policy decisions. This paper will first seek to outline what most academics agree to be the empirical correlations between democracies and war. This paper will then outline and examine the competing theories behind the Democratic Peace. This paper will argue that although some of the realist critiques are plausible and should not be entirely dismissed, the liberal constructivist theories offer the most accurate explanation of why the Democratic Peace exists. This paper will finish by examining the foreign policy implications of this thesis, with reference to recent and potentially future military engagements undertaken by today s democratic Great Powers. The poems Elegy Written in A Country Churchyard. by Thomas Gray, and The Deserted Village, by Oliver Goldsmith, both lament the current state of society in rural areas. Each poem idealizes rural life, but offers differing ideas of the people of the villages. Gray s poem talks about the unrealized Miltons and Cromwells of the poor that were able to live their lives honestly, innocently and the free of temptation faced by the wealthy. Goldsmith talks of the swain and the tradesmen, and the politics that force to live in famine or leave their lands. Diary of Anne Frank, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I have Lived a Thousand Years, the list goes on and on. Interestingly, all of the written works I have read only ever talked about what happened during those events, never after. It seems that majority of authors skip that part. Why? I do not know. Perhaps they think it will bore readers because it is not as dramatic. Marga Minco, on the other hand, approaches the subject of what happens after millions of people are killed in an attempted genocide and a horrible war in her short story, The Address. While The Address may not be as dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place inside the concentration camp, it certainly leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took place around that time period. Scientists have developed a thorough investigation in search of various man harmful waste that is damaging the environment of watercourses. The cell membranes are the utmost essential organelle that surrounds all living cells. Its purpose is to control what goes in and out of the cells and is accountable for the various other properties of the cells as well. The nucleus and other organelles also have membranes that are practically indistinguishable. Membranes are organised in a mosaic arrangement, comprised of carbohydrates, proteins and phospholipids. This can be seen in Figure 1. The objective of this indirect examination is to study the causes of various solvents and conducts on live beetroot cells. The reason why beetroot cells have been selected for this experiment is because they have a big membrane bound central vacuole, as seen in Figure 2. For example, in the essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell, Orwell himself is working as a British police officer in Burma in the 1920 s. He does not like his job because of his hate for the oppressive nature of the British government. However, he does take the job seriously. One day, he gets a report about an elephant tearing through the town. He quickly gets his gun and rides to the scene with his horse. Once Orwell arrives, the elephant is long gone, but he sees all the damage it has caused, even killing a man in its rampage. Orwell asks for a larger gun, only to be used as a last resort against the elephant, and sets off to find the elephant. Many miles away, in a field, the elephant stands. However, it seems to have calmed down and is now eating as if nothing happened. By this point, Orwell has attracted the attention of hundreds of the natives, who have followed him in anticipation of seeing him kill the elephant. Although Orwell did not want to kill the elephant, he felt as though he had to, because of the position of power he held over the natives. He shoots the elephant, but is not content with his decision. Many people are oblivious of the many versions of this fantasy tale. The original fairytale of Cinderella, by the Brother s Grimm, was written in 1812 which had many differences from the Walt Disney version. Like most of Walt Disney s films, they are produced to capture the attention of a certain type of audience, the young. Since Disney films are targeted to the young, they conclude with a romance and happy ending. One of the scenes that have been changed from its original version are the different rolls of Cinderella s parents, Cinderella s godmother, Cinderella s character and the stepsisters punishment for being cruel to Cinderella. For example the sodium nitrate took longer to dissolve than the sodium chloride because they are different substances. Some substances also may not dissolve at all in water. Also, substances have all different types of shapes and sizes, and larger substances may take longer to dissolve than smaller ones. 2.) He shows bravery when he stands up for who and what he believes in and that takes bravery since there will always be people against him and his beliefs in some way or another so he has to be brave enough to stay standing and to continue ... I feel that he shows sympathy and/or empathy for the problems the youth of this community are facing, since he is part of the community himself, and may have gone through the same problems. Now, your opinion may be different from mine, and you may not think that Dan could be described as unprejudiced. Although, he has shown the trait of unprejudiced by starting the It Gets Better organization. If he was Prejudiced, the organization most likely never would have started. It may have even been started, but for the complete opposite reason; to go against LGBTQ+ youth, rather than be for them. However, the past statements are not the case, and he started the organization with the intent of helping the individuals that need it. People need heroes because everyone needs somebody to look up to. Dan Savage is my hero on account of him being brave, compassionate, and unprejudiced. Considering all of the above, Dan Savage, newspaper column writer for The Stranger, that started the It Gets Better organization for LGBTQ+ youth, is my hero. Seeing that he holds traits that go towards my definition of the word, Hero; A leader who can stand up and care about what they believe in without other people s judgement clouding around their ... National security is the ability to protect our borders through homeland security while upholding the rights of nation. Privacy when openly tampered with is distorted. Nobody acts the same knowingly being watched. Information finds another way. There have been studies on lesser issues like workers. There is more productivity when people think they are being watched. The same when our liberties are at stake. What are people to do when it s done for the wrong reasons? Like when an African American see s a sign that separates white and color bathrooms. Another would be when the Jews were forced to where a star then live separately in their own projects. The US jokes about our nation being like fraternity. Every new group gets picked on. The Jew s for being good with money. The Mexicans for being illegal s and now it s the Arab s turn.
