15. Geothermal Heat Pumps
Geothermal heat pumps are systems that use the earth’s
natural heat to provide heating, cooling, and water heating for
buildings.

• Reliable source of power
• Small land footprint
• Usable for large and small-scale installations
• The geothermal energy industry is expanding
• Geothermal infrastructure has longevity

21. Disadvantages of geothermal energy
• Location dependent
• High initial costs
• Can lead to surface instability
• The extraction of geothermal energy may lead to the release of
greenhouse gases.
