Gas Chromatography Lab Report
For this experiment, Gas Chromatography (GC) is utilized to observe the streo and regiochemistry
among four elimination products under either basic or acidic conditions. The reagents used in this
experiment include primary and secondary alcohols which are in acidic conditions and
dehydrobromintion of primary and secondary alkyl halides in basic conditions. When reacted the
gas products are collected and undergo further analysis in the GC which will separate the product
into its components and will show the different distributions among the product. Theory In an
elimination reaction, the reagents in question proceed in either an E1 or E2 reaction mechanism in
order to produce an alkene. For this experiment, 1 butanol and 2 butanol, proceeds... Show more

The reaction then proceeds in a deprotonation of a beta hydrogen while that remaining bond is
turned into an alkene to remove the carbocation. The products for these reagents are different
according to the selectivity of the beta protons. A 1 butene product results from a deprotonation of
the terminal methyl group and a cis or trans 2 butene product if the beta hydrogen is removed
from the methylene group on the other side of the carbocation. 2 butanol will produce these 3
products above; however, 1 butanol will undergo an unstable primary carbocation which will only
result in 1 butene. When observed in the GC it will experimentally result in this specific selectivity
for these reactions as well. For the reagents in basic conditions however will react with a strong
bulky base (potassium tert butoxide ) which will result in an E2 mechanism with no competition
with a substitution mechanism. For this mechanism, 1 bromobutane and 2 bromobutnane, will also
result in the 3 products described above, but will proceed in a faster reaction. First the reagent has
to rearrange where the beta protons are anti periplanar to the bromine atom. Unlike the E1
mechanism

Coach Inc.: Is Its Advantage in Luxury Handbags Sustainable?
Executive Summary
Coach Inc.: Is Its Advantage in Luxury Handbags Sustainable?
Company History в–Є Founded in 1941 by Miles Cahn, a leather artisan, who began producing
women s handbags; simple in style and resilient to wear and tear. в–Є Even after 40 years of
business, coach was able to grow at a steady rate by setting prices about 50% lower than most
luxurious handbags, adding new models and establishing accounts with retailers such as
Bloomingdale s and Saks Fifth Avenue. в–Є After 44 years of family management, Coach was then
sold to Sara Lee, a diversified food and consumer goods producer (acquisition strategy). в–Є Sara
Lee left Coach s strategy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
в–Є Strategy: o Increase frequency of customer visits by regular product launch and sending out
catalogs to strategically selected households (defensive strategy). The company s market
research found that its best customers visited a coach store once every two months and made a
purchase once every 7 months. o They adapted to the fact that women usually use bags to
complement their wardrobes the same way the used to use shoes. o Coach is a brick and click
company, having its products sold on its web site as well as in the full price and factory stores
(web site strategy). Coach s web site had 40 million unique visitors and generated $54 million in
net sales. The company also sends promotional e mail to 55 million selected customers in 2006.
в–Є Functional area strategies: o R D engineering: making prototypes and test them with the
consumers by keeping them in the factory stores for 6 months before the actual launch. o
Production: outsourcing the procurement and manufacturing processes to 40 different suppliers in
15 countries. o Marketing and sales: extensive market research to find out consumer preferences
about new styles, comfort and functionality. The retail distribution is both direct (full price and

Red Blood Cell Is An Essential Treatment For Patients With...
Red Blood Cell (RBC) transfusion is an essential treatment for patients with the Sickle Cell Disease
(SCD). Alloimmunization to RBC antigens has remained a challenge due to the difference in
antigen prevalence, such as in the case of people of African origin and those of white descendent do
not have a similar antigen prevalence. The presence of RH heterogeneity leads to alteration of the
representation of the Rh antigen on a patient s RBC hence increasing chances of alloimmunization.
To be able to counter this, methods such as pre transfusion determination of extended Rh (CcEe)
and K antigen phenotypes and RBC phenotyping by hemagglutination have been attempted. RBC
phenotyping by hemagglutination has been the gold standard, but is labor intensive and hindered
by subjectivity in interpreting agglutination reactions and transcription errors when manually
transcribing results. Testing is also limited by lack of reagents for a number of clinically significant
antigens.
10 DNA based assays targeting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with blood
group antigen expression offer an alternative. 11 14 Genotyping method provide information on
RBC antigens for which standardized serologic typing reagents are not available and are responsive
to high throughput testing with computerized interpretation. RBC antigen phenotypes determined
by single nucleotide polymorphism analysis was compared with serologic testing for 13 routinely
tested RBC antigens. The frequency of

Essay on The Social Dimension of Sending Remittances
Introduction
The social impact of remittances is a very important area of research and discussion within
academia and in the wider world. What is the effect of remittances on the senders, the receivers and
the wider communities in which both sides live?
This essay will attempt to address the issue of the social dimension of remittances by analysing the
debate on this issues through a number of examples of both the sender experience and the
receiver experience. In this way we are able to get a better picture of the power of remittances
from a social context and what it means to both sides.
Remittances
Migrants remitted $338 billion globally in 2009 (Levitt and Lamba Nieves, 2). In the past 30 years

Therefore relationships are at the heart of what motivates a sender to remit to their loved ones.
What is involved in the relationship between the sender and receiver that allows someone working
thousands of miles away and often in terrible conditions to send their hard earned money to their
families in their home country is an extraordinary example of the bonds that unite us.
Author s Story, Remittances to Yemen
.
I am a second generation British Yemeni born in Liverpool. As a child my parents moved our family
to Yemen to live. So from the age of 5 years old to the age of 9 years old I moved from inner city
Liverpool to a small village in Yemen. I didn t speak any Arabic at all when I arrived and by the
time I left at the age 9 I didn t speak any English at all.
I remember my time in Yemen very fondly, it was an extraordinary time of adventure and
discovery without television or radio. Due to my time in Yemen I developed a very strong
connection to the country, even though following my return to the UK, I didn t visit Yemen again
for 17 years until I went back to get married in 1998.
This bond I developed remains to this day, this has meant regular trips to visit family and friends
especially for my Yemeni born wife. As a mugtareb Arabic for migrant, I am expected from time to
time to remit money. Most of the time this money goes to my parents who spend 6 months of the
year in Yemen and 6 months in the UK. However I am also

Pro Anorexia Persuasive Essay
Anything that promotes an unhealthy lifestyle is inappropriate, right? Wrong. Eating disorders
have been on the rise among teenagers, and whether or not pro anorexia websites should be
banned is a hot topic of debate. People are quick to judge pro anorexia websites since they
promote unhealthy lifestyles, but these websites can actually be a positive resource for those
who suffer from eating disorders. Understanding Pro Anorexia Websites On a pro anorexia
website, one might find pictures of unhealthily thin women, advice on how to stop eating, and
motivational posts to help those who suffer from anorexia reach their goal weight. Some users
even provide tips on how to overcome the various side effects that come with anorexia fainting
spells, fatigue, and dehydration. These websites are usually blogs or discussion boards, and
users often anonymously post and interact with others. For many sufferers, pro anorexia websites
are the only resource that they feel comfortable resorting to. The Importance of Anonymity
Those who suffer from eating disorders often resort to internet discussion boards because they
are anonymous. Eating disorders are often criticized, and many sufferers are afraid of being
judged or ridiculed by their family or friends. Those with anorexia often hear lines like Just eat a
hamburger! or Why can t you just eat like the rest of us? Saying things like this to an anorexic
person is not going to help them at all. If anything, words like

Skeletal Muscle Vs Muscle
In producing movement bones, support the body, and provide leverage for the skeletal muscles of
the body (Sailey, pg. 113). The muscles, skeletal muscles work together, a system of pairs when
one contracts (shorter) the other relaxes (longer) and causes joints to move (Sailey, pg. 113). The
nerves, signals are sent to the brian and then to the synapses to muscles.
The sliding filament theory of muscle contraction is basically saying the myosin thick filaments
slide past actin thin filaments during muscle contraction. I believe the sarcomere would be an
example of this occurring.
Both skeletal and cardiac muscle are striated, however skeletal muscle is voluntary and controls
movement. While cardiac muscle is involuntary.

Femininity Depicted Throughout The Hebrew Bible
According to the late great mongolian marauder Genghis Khan The greatest happiness is to scatter
your enemy, to drive him before you,to see his cities reduced to ashes, to see those who love him
shrouded in tears, and to gather into your bosom his wives and daughters. Genghis Khan, much like
the Hebrew Bibleduring certain points, regards women as objects. However, to write the Hebrew
Bible off as fully misogynistic would not do the ancient texts justice. From Genesis to Judges 2,
the Hebrew Bible objectifies women, uses them as scapegoats, but during certain points rises
them to the level of highly admired Prophets and warriors. This essay attempts to explore the
various undertones of femininity depicted throughout the Hebrew Bible. The story of the
Concubine of a Levite in Judges 19 20 may be one of the harshest examples of female
objectification throughout the Bible. The story takes place during a period without a monarch. It
begins with the Levite Husband leaving his home to fetch his concubine who fled to her father s
home in Gibeah. This story showcases the brutal rape of a nameless woman. The author of Judges
19 20 is a somewhat contested issue. Although rabbinic Sages believed that the book was written by
the prophet Samuel, modern biblical scholars note that the work was not written by just one author.
Many of these scholars believe that this was the work of Deuteronomistic redactors. However the
positive expectations from the monarchy, the lack of

Deception, Lying, And Other Cases
In Element 1, I will present some cases where deception is thought to be lying, and other cases
where deception is not thought to be lying. I will contend that, when deception is lying, it is
immoral and I will give reasons for why this is the case. After my presentation, I will take a look at
some possible criticisms of my arguments and then answer those criticisms. Then, I will present my
conclusions.
In Element 2, I will contend that people for whatever reason choose to lie about things in order to
persuade others into thinking that the truth is on their side. Lying takes a group of actions or
words that are clearly false to the perpetrator to try to bait someone into thinking that it is truthful.
When deceptions are thought to be lies, it can be a very eerie situation because the person that
was lied to did not get complete or enough adequate information of what was told. Yes, what
someone said may have been truthful, but not all of the information was being told. The person
receiving the information is left without additional pieces to the story although he or she does not
know this, which makes the person assume that what you said was the end all be all to the
situation. These situations can likely equate to being a lie because of the information that was
omitted. Once the person finds out that pieces of information was left out or incomplete, they will
feel like they were lied to. Because the rest of the information or story was not fulfilled, the person
can also be

Tilted Arc
The Destruction of Public Art Tilted Arc (Figure 1) was brought down on the 15th of March of
1989 by the General Services Administration (GSA) in the centre of New York s federal plaza.
Tilted Arc was a site specific work of a curved steel wall or barrier, that was 120 feet long and 12
feet high, with an arch that gave the effect of the wall leaning inwards. The GSA commissioned
Richard Serra to build a sculpturefor the Art in Architecture program that would be placed in the
plaza in front of the Jacob K Davits Federal building. The work was set up in 1981 and received a
few critical comments. However, it was only when William Diamond, an appointee GSA New York
Regional Administrator, started to investigate a bit more that he created substantial arguments
against the sculpture to try and relocate it. Tilted Arc then became a controversial piece of work
that involved the art world and major associations and resulted in a lawsuit and public hearing in
1985. The main issues that surrounded the controversy relate to the way in which the space was
transformed, the rights of the artist, and censorship. In addition, we must question the role of public
artin society, if certain works should be considered public art, and the ways in which power and
politics can influence the arts. Richard Serra is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sociological Theories In Black Friday
Every year the retail stores open up early on Friday after Thanksgiving for amazing Christmas
shopping deals. A lot of the merchandise in the participating stores becomes 30%, 40%, or even
50+% discounted. For the consumers that prefer to save money have no problem in participating in
what is called Black Friday. Last year instead of the sells starting on Friday the participating
stores started their sells on Thanksgiving around 6pm. This year the retail stores have decided to
start their sells even earlier, as early as 6am on Thanksgiving sale. When the shopping was on
Friday there was not so many people to upset, but now that it s open on Thanksgiving Day the
people have started raising a problem about the idea. What was once called Black... Show more

Other people of the American society as well as me believe that all businesses should be closed
on Thanksgiving Day. The people and I believe that Thanksgiving Day is meant for families to
be together. Though some jobs the employees need to still be working such as first responders
the retail stores don t need to be. There is no reason for retail stores to be open on Thanksgiving
Day. Everyone loves getting those discounts for the merchandise but I m sure the people would
still go shopping if it was on the day after Thanksgiving. The retail stores will still be open Friday
with the shopping deals but a lot of the good merchandise and deals will only be on
Thanksgiving so now people have to choose either shopping or spending time with family. Some
people believe in so much of Thanksgiving is meant only for families to be together instead of
shopping that they are going to the retail stores that are open and protesting. The ones with the
power in this event are the retail stores. People can choose not to shop and stay with their
families. The only problem is if they do that they can also lose the great deals for merchandise on
Thanksgiving Day. The way the retail stores influence the consumers to come out on Thanksgiving
Day is by giving better discounts on Thanksgiving. Retail stores also offer other promotions for
shopping at their store on Thanksgiving Day such as a discount coupon for your

Nuclear Energy In Australia Essay
Introduction
Recently, there has been debates on whether or not Australia should result to nuclear energy for
some of its energy source. The main issue is to do with the risk when nuclear energy is used. The
chance of a nuclear disaster in a nuclear power plant is actually incredibly small, however, if the
risk does occur, the consequence is devastating. (Gary Was, 2015). Australia also currently has no
nuclear power generators, which is a surprise since it owns about 31% of the world s uranium
resources. (Wikipedia, Last Modified 16 July 2015). Back in February 8th this year, Premier Jay
Weatherill, said that there would be a, mature and robust conversation about South Australia s
future participation in a nuclear fuel cycle, including the prospects for setting up nuclear power
stations, uranium enrichment plants and a nuclear waste dump in the state. (George Lekakis, 2015).
How it works

The United States Is The Only Industrialized Country...
Currently, the United States is the only industrialized country without a statute requiring all
employers to provide some kind of paid time off for its employees to care for a newborn or a
sick loved one. Data gathered from 38 member countries of the Organization for Economic Co
operation and Development (OECD) support this claim. Figure 1 shows the member countries
and the length of maternity leave provided to all employees. The graph details only the averages.
Maternity leave provisions can include 2 to 30 weeks paid at 100% of the employee s salary
and an additional leave that can be as long as 52 weeks at 90% of the salary, or less in other
countries. The OECD calculated the average paid maternity leave in the member countries to be
17 weeks, with an average payment rate of about 78%. There are 17 countries providing above
average paid maternity leave benefits, including industrialized economies like the United
Kingdom, Denmark, Finland, and Italy. On top of maternity leave, most OECD members also
have an additional paid parental and home care leave available only to mothers. The
organization summarizes this benefit in Figure 2 which shows that its average for the 38
member countries is about 37 weeks, with an average payout of 45% of the employee s original
earnings. The United States, with only FMLA for a legislation, falls way below the average for all
categories with 0 weeks of guaranteed paid leave. In addition to the maternity and other paid leave
for mothers,

Explain The Musculoskeletal And Energy Systems P1
P1 describe the musculoskeletal and energy systems response to acute exercise
Musculoskeletal
The musculoskeletal allows the body to function through a group of muscles, bones, tendons,
cartilage and ligaments. The body moves through different muscle contractions. This makes the
bone pull towards the contracting muscles. The skeletal system provides a structure for the body,
while the muscular system creates movement in the bones of the skeletal system by contracting and
relaxing. When exercising, the muscles increase in pliability. This is when the muscles become
more pliable as they become warm, reducing the chance of getting an injury. They become more
pliable as the muscles contract really fast when exercising. The contractions generate heat take
makes the muscle more pliable.
Energy Systems
The body uses different energy systems depending on the duration of the exercise. If the exercise is
for a long period, the body will use the aerobic energy system. This system produces the most
energy for the body, using oxygen. An example of an exercise that uses... Show more content on

This system creates energy without using any oxygen, meaning lactic acid will be created as a
waste product. It is the fastest in creating energy in the body, but can only be used for a short
amount of time. It is mainly used in events that last up to 30 seconds. And example of someone
using this is a sprinter. This is because they need energy quickly as they are sprinting at high speed
and it only lasts for around 10 seconds.
One other energy system the body uses is the phosphocreatine system. It creates energy
immediately as creatine phosphate is a high energy compound. It is used when the exercise is at a
high frequency or when the body needs energy instantly. An example of this energy system in use is
in football. When the footballer suddenly needs to sprint, he needs the energy immediately.

Analysis Of The Movie Invincible
In the movie Invincible, Mark Wahlberg plays the role as Vince Papale, and his dream is to be
able to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. Vince works as a 30 year old substitute teacher who gets
fired as the movie goes on due to budget cuts. Not only has he lost his job, but he losses his wife
also because she said he would never amount to anything and asks for a divorce soon after. Vince
was also a bartender at the time. While Vince was bartending, the Philadelphia Eaglesnew head
coach Dick Vermiel announces open tryouts for the team and all of Vince s friends try to
convince him to attend. After Vince listens to all of his friends, who are all rabid Eagles fans,
encourage him to try out, the message his wife left him and his father saying he could not do it,
he finally has enough motivation to go. Out of everyone, Vince was the most surprised as he
makes it past the first cuts at training camp. As he passes many of the cuts in practices, it looks
like he will actually make the team and becomes an icon of hope for his friends, family and a lot
of Eagles fans. When the very last cuts were due, coach Vermiel called for Vince to go and see
him. Vince was convinced that he was going to be cut because the receiver he was competing
against was a little better than he was. Vince s attitude, intensity and character won the day with
Vermiel who welcomed him to the Philadelphia Eagles. This movie can relate to quite a few

Renewable Energy Is Not The Answer
Renewable Energy Is Not the Answer Renewable Energy is defined as: a renewable natural
resource or source of energy, such as water, wind, or solar power (Oxford English Dictionary).
There are those that believe that our nation should abandon the use of fossil fuels such as oil,
natural gas, and coal, and switch to renewable energysources. Although the change could yield
many benefits, I believe that renewable energy is a not viable alternative for our nation s energy
future because it would create an unfavorable environmental impact, it is not as reliable, and it
would be too costly. Converting to renewable energy sources would have a devastating
environmental impact. In addition to solar panels, wind turbines and hydroelectric dams would
make up the largest portion of renewable energy generation. Wind farms create hazards in their
areas of operation. They consume up to 200 times as much land as gas fired power plants
(Langwith). If 25 percent of our nation s energy came from wind, the turbines would kill more than
a million birds each year (Langwith). Experts have been unable to find a solution to this problem.
Hydroelectric dams are harmful to the habitats of many fish. For example, the Bonneville Power
Administration has an expensive program of capturing fish and moving them around its Columbia
River dams. Their goal is to recover and preserve the Pacific Northwest Salmon. This creates a huge
cost to fisheries and causes many environmentalists to support non hydro

1. Explain the distinction Jean Grimshaw makes between misogyny and philosophically significant
maleness of philosophical theories.
Jean Grimshaw argues the idea that the discipline of Philosophy is gendered in some way by
making a distinction between misogyny and philosophically significant maleness of philosophical
theories. The maleness of philosophy is characterised by the fact that most of the practitioners of
philosophy have been and are still male. Grimshaw argues that this fact alone does not establish the
maleness of philosophy but gives a sense of understanding. The second point Grimshaw argues is
the way in which male philosophers devalue women and how women are believed to be inferior or

In this case, Singer is discussing nonhuman equality. Singer argues that if a being suffers, there can
be no moral justification for refusing to take that suffering into consideration. He characterises this
as sentience the ability having the capacity to suffer or experience enjoyment or happiness. Human
speciesists do not accept that pain is as bad when it is felt by animals as it is felt by humans, which
is the argument for extending the principle of equality to nonhumans. When making a distinction
between animals and humans Singer states that there are many areas in which the superior mental
powers of normal adult humans make a difference: anticipation, more detailed memory, greater
knowledge of what is happening and so on. These differences between humans and animals lead to
the conclusion that normal adult human beings have mental capacities which will, in certain
circumstances lead them to suffer more than animals would in the same circumstances. However,
Singer proposes that if we use this argument to justify experiments on nonhuman animals then we
have to ask ourselves whether we are also prepared to allow experiments on human infants and
retarded adults as they too would have no idea of what was going to happen to them. In conclusion,
Singer argues that the difference between humans and animals should not be considered when
defining the moral standards of animal equality, as the

The Case Of The Attorney General
The Attorney General is part of the executive branch. They are also in charge of the Department of

Most attorney generals are elected, while some are appointed by the governor, legislature or

As the chief legal officer of the states, commonwealths and territories of the United States, the
attorneys general serve as counselors to their legislatures and state agencies and also as the People s
Lawyer for all citizens. Originating in the mid 13th century in the office of England s King s

Impact Of Natural Resources On Economic Growth
QUESTION 9
Natural resource and its effect on economic growth and dynamics of conflicts.
1.0 Introduction
Natural resources are raw materials extracted from the earth. They are useful in many different
ways for its diversified opportunity of benefit and profit for economic development. Examples of
natural resources are mineral, oil, waterways, land, timber, diamonds, coals, coltan and genetic.
Majority of developing countries, distributions of natural resources vary from one geographic
location to another. The variability of location has caused greed and grievances in economic
development. This was attributed to more risk of conflict, weak governance, and poor economic
performance.
2.0 Effect of natural resources on economic growth.
According to Collier and Hoeffer (2003), there are three major factors that depend on the primary
commodity exports such as income per capita, rate of economic growth, and structure of the
economy, the higher the rate of primary commodities exports the higher the level of risk of conflict.
Developing countries that are dependent on natural resources are more liable to terms of trade
shocks, which leads to instability and dissatisfaction within the groups that suffer the shocks. Since
natural resources are wealth and unevenly distributed causes the rebel groups ventures in various
forms of extortion, exploitation, and trade of primary commodity. The best known types of conflict

HISTORY:
The Band Aid was invented in 1920 by Earle Dickson, an employee of Johnson amp; Johnson, for
his wife Josephine Dickson, who frequently cut and burned herself while cooking. The prototype
product allowed his wife to dress her wounds without assistance. Dickson, a Highland Park, New
Jersey resident at the time, passed the idea on to his employer who then went on to produce and
market the product as the Band Aid. Dickson had a successful career at Johnson amp; Johnson,
eventually becoming a Vice President at the company before his retirement in 1957.

Virender Sehwag, chosen as Band Aid s brand ambassador, symbolised the very essence of what
the product stood for: solid, gritty and with a never say die attitude under any circumstance. This
tie up kicked off a series of contests and promotions that included a special edition pack featuring
the explosive cricketer.
Over the years, the challenge for communication has been to shift from passive protection to active
healing. Band Aid needed to signal efficacy, demonstrate its medicinal side and shift its discourse
without losing its core values. Kids have the innate desire to be active and Band Aid makes sure
that cuts and bruises will not hinder that desire
The Band Aid Goldfish campaign, launched in 2000, was a real clutter breaking advertisement,
which elevated the awareness of wash proof to new heights. Since early 2003, the brand, with its
new campaign of Continuous Care , has tried to reposition itself among the target audience. The
simple theme is that unlike antiseptic liquids and creams, which wear off after the initial effect,
Band Aid works on the wound non stop. Therefore, the core value of the brand ceaseless
supervision is emphatically stated in the baseline Iska asar lagatar . The Kids Snapshot film is
based on this thought.

What Are Respirators Are Common Today And Household Settings
Respirators are defined by Merriam Webster as, a device worn over the mouth and nose to protect
the respiratory tract by filtering out dangerous substances (as dusts or fumes) from inhaled air
(Merriam Webster). The use of respirators are common today in both industrial and household
settings. The earliest known idea for a respiratorcan be traced to Pliny the Elder over 1900 years
ago. He suggested the use of wearing animal bladders to protect Roman mine workers from
inhaling red oxide of lead (OSHA). In 1854, John Stenhouse developed a respirator using
powdered charcoal (see Figure 1) that could be used for protection from gas. Stenhouse s
respirator led to the use of activated charcoal, which is still used today (OSHA). There... Show more

Wet laid process
The wet laid process is a modified version of a process that is used to create paper. There are
various methods that can be utilized based on the needs of the finished product, production,
demand, etc. The particular wet laid process that was utilized in this experiment yielded a mat
that was approximately 12 x12 with varying thickness, based on the mass of material used. One
mat could be produced approximately every hour, with an additional two hours needed for the
drying of each mat. The material is mixed with a dispersal agent, flocculating agent, and a resin.
The process involved the mixing of the chemicals, along with the material. The resulting mixture is
then added to the suction box and filled with more water. A vacuum is then pulled by opening a
valve below the suction box, resulting in a mat of the material on the mesh bottom of the suction
box.
This project was a continuation of prior research conducted by Meghan Moore. She investigated
how the efficiency of using activated carbon fiber compared to traditional filtering face piece
respirators for nanoparticle aerosols. The particular activated carbon fibers used in this study were
two nonwoven activated carbon fiber felts, with a surface area of 1,000m2/g and 1,500m2/g, and

Freedom Of Religion, By Dallin H. Oaks
Freedom of religion is one of the most cherished foundations of both American society and the
Church. The eleventh Article of Faith provides an excellent definition for freedom of religion, We
claim the privilege of worshipping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience,
and allow all men the same privilege: let them worship how, where, or what they may. As society
grows less religious, there are concerns that freedom of religionis in danger. In his 1990 Ensign
article Religion in Public Life, Dallin H. Oaks states that we must reaffirm and even contend for
religious liberty. The best ways we can defend our freedom of religionare to ensure that our

Only in a nation where religious dissent was accepted and protected as a fundamental right could a
religion like ours develop and thrive.
In his treatise, Memorial and Remonstrance against Religious Assessments, James Madison
pointed out, Who does not see that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in
exclusion of all other Religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of
Christians, in exclusion of all other Sects? As members of the Church and as American citizens,
our promotion of freedom of religion is both a matter of promoting the general welfare and
promoting our own self interest. In matters of religious liberty, it is necessary that we recognize
that our approach to the religious freedoms of others sets a precedent that could potentially be used
against us. This applies both restrictions on the practice of other faiths and the legal compulsion of
others to follow the tenets of our own faith.
We must jealously guard our own freedom of belief and practice in our own private lives.
However, when we feel that public policy is in some way infringing on our religious beliefs, we
need to take a step back and ensure that we are not merely uncomfortable with others exercising
their own freedom of speech and religion to criticize our views. In the Virginia Statute for Religious
Freedom, Thomas Jefferson said,

Rhetorical Devices Used In A Modest Proposal
In any piece of literature, consideration of the audience is key in assuring that not only the overall
theme, but also the desired reaction to the work is attained. In terms of analysis, identifying the
audience may lead to greater insight, as depending on individual traits and beliefs, responses can
vary wildly from one group of people to the next, and in identifying the audienceand their
respective feedback, one can hone in on the author s intended purpose of the work and judge
whether or not the work in itself is effective in communicating its point. In Jonathan Swift s
controversial essay A Modest Proposal, he achieves this successful conveyance by utilizing
careful appeals such as logos, ethos, and pathos in a prolific manner and in such a way so as to

audience seems to center on the rich, land owning English elite. One may deduce this from his use

the Glorious Revolution of 1688 1689. With Ireland s population being mostly Catholic, and Swift
introducing the solution of greatly [lessening] the number of Papists (635) through his proposal, he

Irish populace. In addition to this, Swift also distances himself from the issue of Irish

Data Warehousing System for Miller Inc
Design document Support for need of data warehousing Miller Inc. requires a transaction
processing system since the volume of transaction has increase beyond the normal capacity for
performing server and disk bound tasks which are associated with querying and reporting. Miller
Inc. s system utilizes servers and disks that are not used by the transaction processing system.
Therefore a data warehouse will provide the quickest way to process transactions within a
reasonable amount of time. It also allows for less server and disk resources to be utilized which
is expected to reduce the transaction processing time considerably and thus help in speeding up
the system overall. It is also expected that running queries and reports which normally use up a
lot of the limited system resources will be speeded up since the data warehousing architecture
uses separate servers and disks for querying and reporting. The data warehousing system will
also allow the company to use a data model and server technology that speeds up querying and
reporting. This is because these will not be included in the data processing time thus allowing the
company to use a modeling technique that does not slow down or complicate the transaction
processing system. The data warehouse will also allow the company to use a bit mapped indexing
system as their server technology in order to speed up query and report processing. Technologies

seeing several things happening as graphic as child birth with C section and suicide, things he
had never seen before and had no idea that he was about to experience that in his life. From the

help to his dad. I also observed that Nick is not a tough person, that he is sensitive, passionate and
caring. Oh, daddy can t you give her something to make her stop screaming? I think that Nick
might have been too young to be experiencing such a grownup episode as childbirth and under the
circumstance as a C section and mortality. I also think that his father may have pushed this
experience on him a little too soon. As it turns out Nick still too young to really process the idea
of mortality and Nick s father had to explain to him a whole lot more than he expected to do. He
was looking away so as not to see what his father was doing. Nick did not watch. His curiosity had

in detail his experiences in the schoolsystem and the problems he sees in school systems.
In his essay The Banking Concept of Education Freire describes the faults in our current
educational system and the method he believes should replace it. He shows how the banking
concept of education creates an environment where students just receive and store information, but
never question why things are the way they are. Then goes on to explain how in the banking
concept teachers act as if they are superior to the students by referring to teachers as oppressors
and students as oppresses. In his essay Freire also gives a solution to the problems he describes in
the banking concept. It s called the problem posing method and it is an interactive way of learning
where your mind is more engaged. This is a liberating educational experience where teachers and
students are equal. That the teacher learns with the student and encourages them. He then describes

The Schematics of a Film Disk
The characteristics of the disc surface affect the flow patterns generated on the film as well as the
residence time of the reactants film. The effect of disc texture on particle characteristics is
depicted in Figure 7 and Figure 8. It can be seen that using the grooved disc surface results in
smaller particle size and narrower particle size distributionas compared to smooth disc surface. A
narrow particle size distribution for the production of silver nanoparticles was achieved by Iyer et
al.[43] using the grooved disc. The authors postulated that that the corrugated nature of the
grooved disc promoted shear induced micromixing of the thin film on the disc at higher rotational
speed. The efficient micromixing ensured that all the particles were exposed to the similar
conditions to maintain a narrow size distribution [43]. Similar enhancement effects of grooved
surfaces have been reported for styrene polymerisation in the SDR [9]. It has also been suggested
in the literature that surface textures have the potential to suppress liquid channelling or rivulet
flow compared to a smooth surface under identical conditions of liquid flowrate and liquid
properties so that a higher wetted area is achieved [44]. Rivulet flow as opposed to film flow
would result in larger average film thicknesses which may lead to detrimental performance,
especially under strictly laminar flowconditions (i.e. where any surface wave induced turbulence is
absent). Thus, the intensifying effects of the

you heart beats faster. Given this hyperactivity, it should be no surprise how someone with a

back and forth under the eyelids. Our bodies are completely immobile and muscles are relaxed.
You may shift around in your sleep but when in REM you are completely still. 2. Dreammoods.com

person right before they entered the REM stage, and then let the person fall back asleep, and then
wake them up again and do this several times during the night. They repeated this over several
nights. They then observed the subjects doing everyday activities and found they were disoriented,
crabby, and quick tempered. Dreaming is necessary and helps to recharge the mind and visualize
the body. 3. According to the site BoredPanda.com, while someone is dreaming

Hif-1 Lab Report
Through this experiment we have successfully cloned and expressed Crassostrea virginica
homolog of hypoxia inducible factor 1. This transcription factor, Hif 1, has many unknown
possible cellular signaling pathways. One possible pathway interaction is between Hif 1 and its
role in apoptosis and cell cycle control, since one of the effect of hypoxia is cell death. In the
apoptosis pathway, the tumor suppressor protein, p53, is inhibited via Mdm2. This pathway has
not been fully determined yet in the eastern oyster, thus it is speculated that Hif 1О± and p53
could interact directly or indirectly via Mdm2 (Schmid, 2004). Hif 1 and its control of cell cycle
arrest can be evaluated using protein protein interactions. In order to determine the actual pathway,
the possible interaction of Hif 1 and Mdm2 can be tested for this indirect control of apoptosis....

would use an aliquot of the synthesized GST Crassostrea virginica Hif 1 fusion protein without the
additive of cell lysate to ensure that the antibody is binding to the protein in the affinity column

Teenage Abortion In The United States
Teen Abortion Teen abortion is something that everyone should take seriously. One in four teens
that are pregnant have an abortion. That means that every 25% of teen pregnancies come to an
end. Out of all the different ages of abortion teens make up 18% of the 100%. 82% of all teen
pregnancies are accidental. Juggling school and a baby can be very hard on the mother and her
family. About one half of all teen mothers graduate high school and get their diploma. Most of the
time mothers drop out just to take care of their baby (choicespregnancy). On a good note, the U.S
teen pregnancy, birth and abortionrates have gone done significantly and they are the lowest they
have been in four decades. From 2008 to 2011 there has been a 23% decline... Show more content

Extra-Legal Institutions Case Study
Due to the unlawful nature of their activities, criminals are not able to turn to the state when they
require help in enforcing contracts or to provide them with security. Instead, they have developed a
complex system of extra legal institutions, including written constitutions and a formal separation of
powers. Due to most aspects of our lives being governed by the process of competition, and the
demand for illicit goods being consistently high, it is my contention that extra legal institutions do
present an efficient solution to the problems faced by self enforced exchanges. I will explain this
position, firstly, by examining the governing institutions of the Nuestra Familia Californian prison
gang. Secondly, I will look at the institutions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are aware of one another s social standing and know who their friends are. Fear of being
deemed an outcast amongst a tightly knit group of convicts encourages the inmates to avoid
conflict where possible. When they wish to purchase illicit goods, the only place they are able
to turn is to fellow inmate entrepreneurs. If one was to take advantage in this exchange, it would
quickly be prison wide knowledge and the perpetrator would would be ostracised or assaulted.
Fear of becoming an outlaw amongst other outlaws incentivises good behaviour and cooperation
and as a result of this, the prison economy flourishes. However, since the 1950 s, it has been
difficult to find a prison which is not densely populated. It is increasingly difficult for inmates to
keep track of other prisoners and, in such a large group, ostracism is no longer a feasible
punishment device and so prisoners began to organise themselves into gangs.
La Nuestra Familia formed in the mid 1960 s as a response to the violence and oppressive
actions of the Mexican Mafia prison gang. The Mexican Mafia had been in charge of every drug
transaction and prison pleasure , as well as victimising Hispanic inmates who could not safely take
showers and had their guests victimised during visiting

Moses And David Research Paper
David from 1 Samuel and Moses from the Exodus, are some of the most important characters of the
Old Testament. Moses and David, have many similarities and differences throughout their lives.
They are both referred to as men or servants of God. However, they represent vastly different
functions within the Bible. While both Davidand Mosesserve God, they do so in extremely
contrasting ways.
The lives of Moses and David contain many similarities in their youth. Both Moses and David
were the youngest child of their families. Also, both prophets came from troubled family
situations. Moses and David both grew up in wealthy households that took them in. First, David
was raised in the palace of Saul. The prophet Samuel explains, And David came to ... Show more

First, they both antagonize their rulers. Likewise, this causes them to lose the favor of their
adoptive households. Interestingly, Moses and David, both distinguish themselves and lose
royal favor, by killing someone. First, David loses favor and becomes a significant figure by
killing Goliath. As a result, Saul begins to fear David. Similarly, Moses kills an Egyptian slave
driver, which angers the Pharaoh. Both of these deaths, symbolize the beginning of the divine
missions of David and Moses. As a result, they both begin confronting the authority in the region.
David begins directly fighting against Saul. Moses begins confronting the Pharaoh with plagues.
However, at this time the first major difference between Moses and David becomes apparent.
David spoke through God indirectly through the prophet Samuel. But Moses, was a prophet, so
spoke to God directly. However, this point of their lives poses additional similarities. During this
time of their lives, both Moses and David worked as shepherds. Likewise, their opponents
constantly began to yield, but changed their minds. The Pharaoh at many points stated that he
would free the Jews. For example, the Pharaoh said, I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer,
(Exodus 9:28). However, the Pharaoh constantly changed his mind because, The Lord hardened the
heart of Pharaoh, (Exodus 9:12). Similarly, at many times Saul considered making peace with
David. However, he must change his mind, until he is eventually defeated and David becomes

growth has been the lack of internet connectivity. Cuba in fact as the lowest level of internet

we ask, could the United States make money by assisting Cuba in technical communications?
Though still among the least connected countries in the world, Cuba saw greater internet access

The Reflection Of Working In An Enterprise Environment
Throughout the semester, I worked at Central Community School District 301 in the
information technology department and worked on many different projects. This experience
was very impactful because it taught things that classes have a hard time doing or and not able
to teach at all. Working in an enterprise environment took all the information that I have gained
from computer science classes and focused them into one point. Which is, to be able to work on
a team and to be able to create and understand enterprise level software. Most of my time at
CCUSD 301 included of me working on self hosted internal education tools for teacher and
student use, and creating and updating different automation task that made some manual time
consume task, very easy or non existence at all or working on self hosted learning programs for
teacher and student use. One of the first projects was for me to make a program that took a
picture from a camera renamed it to a normalized name convention and then move it to the
correct directory, so that a ID printing software could select the correct picture to print it on the
ID. When I first received this project I was thinking, this will be easy because it was just like I
did in CSCI 330, UNIX and Network Programming. The only problem was that it had to run on a
Windows server and not Linux. Pythonwas already installed on the server for another task, so my
manager said that I could use it or any other scripting language that I felt most comfortable with. I
chose Python because I did not know many other languages at the time and because I just started
taking CSCI 490K which was a classabout Python to solve different problems. After doing
research and getting assistant from other members of the team I was able to test and complete
the program. Throughout the semester, I came back to this script to refine it after learning new
concepts in class to make it more efficient and handle errors better. One of the next projects, also
one of the largest was for me to make a new script that interfaced with a Google for education
administrator console API in order to manage 8,000 Chromebooks. This was the first project that
was given a firm dead line for completion because there was around 4,000

Hippotherapy is a specialized type of equine assisted therapy (EAT). It means involving a horse
during the course of treatment. In order to conduct hippotherapy, one must be a licensed therapist
(physical, occupational, or speech language pathologist) and be certified through the Professional
Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH). During hippotherapy, the client will sit on the
horse s back and adjust their body to the movements of the horse s walk. The client does not
influence the horse; rather, the horse s movements influences the rider. Functional riding skills are
not taught, and any improvement in the client s quality of life is secondary (Macauley Gutierrez,
2004). Within the scope of practice of the therapist, the client will perform activities that will help
achieve the set treatment goals while sitting on top of the horse, complementing their horse s walk.
Both physical and psychosocial benefits have been documents or reports from the use of EAT and

Definitions Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction
1. Using two references and in your words, defines Weapons of Mass Destruction?
Weapons of mass destruction might be described as weapon with the capacity to inflict death
and destruction on such a massive scale and so indiscriminately that its very presence in the
hands of a hostile power can be considered a grievous threat (WMDC, 2006). Most weapons of
mass destruction are nuclear, biological, or chemical. The term is a relatively new one, as it first
appeared in December 1937 in an address by Archbishop Of Canterbury. Weapons of mass
destruction may also include fierce fighting machines such as tanks and atomic missiles. These
arms can cause massive damage to physical structures such as buildings, roads, and bridges
(Graham Talent, 2008). However, the meaning of the term was quite different from the way it is
used in the contemporary international law. Weapons of mass destruction appear in the document
signed by Harry Truman in 1945. After that, the term weapons of mass destruction was included in
the titular resolution passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations (WMDC, 2006). The
essential characteristics of these arms are their ability to cause large scale destruction. There is no
single definition of the term large scale destruction . However, it could be assumed that massive
destruction is the one that causes injuries or death for a large number of people and the one that
destroys vast territories, causing damage to ecology and making it

To remove these you will need a 9/16 socket with about at least a 2 foot extension to reach the

something to protect the bottom of the transmission pan.

  • 2. Gas Chromatography Lab Report For this experiment, Gas Chromatography (GC) is utilized to observe the streo and regiochemistry among four elimination products under either basic or acidic conditions. The reagents used in this experiment include primary and secondary alcohols which are in acidic conditions and dehydrobromintion of primary and secondary alkyl halides in basic conditions. When reacted the gas products are collected and undergo further analysis in the GC which will separate the product into its components and will show the different distributions among the product. Theory In an elimination reaction, the reagents in question proceed in either an E1 or E2 reaction mechanism in order to produce an alkene. For this experiment, 1 butanol and 2 butanol, proceeds... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reaction then proceeds in a deprotonation of a beta hydrogen while that remaining bond is turned into an alkene to remove the carbocation. The products for these reagents are different according to the selectivity of the beta protons. A 1 butene product results from a deprotonation of the terminal methyl group and a cis or trans 2 butene product if the beta hydrogen is removed from the methylene group on the other side of the carbocation. 2 butanol will produce these 3 products above; however, 1 butanol will undergo an unstable primary carbocation which will only result in 1 butene. When observed in the GC it will experimentally result in this specific selectivity for these reactions as well. For the reagents in basic conditions however will react with a strong bulky base (potassium tert butoxide ) which will result in an E2 mechanism with no competition with a substitution mechanism. For this mechanism, 1 bromobutane and 2 bromobutnane, will also result in the 3 products described above, but will proceed in a faster reaction. First the reagent has to rearrange where the beta protons are anti periplanar to the bromine atom. Unlike the E1 mechanism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Red Blood Cell Is An Essential Treatment For Patients With... Red Blood Cell (RBC) transfusion is an essential treatment for patients with the Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Alloimmunization to RBC antigens has remained a challenge due to the difference in antigen prevalence, such as in the case of people of African origin and those of white descendent do not have a similar antigen prevalence. The presence of RH heterogeneity leads to alteration of the representation of the Rh antigen on a patient s RBC hence increasing chances of alloimmunization. To be able to counter this, methods such as pre transfusion determination of extended Rh (CcEe) and K antigen phenotypes and RBC phenotyping by hemagglutination have been attempted. RBC phenotyping by hemagglutination has been the gold standard, but is labor intensive and hindered by subjectivity in interpreting agglutination reactions and transcription errors when manually transcribing results. Testing is also limited by lack of reagents for a number of clinically significant antigens. 10 DNA based assays targeting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with blood group antigen expression offer an alternative. 11 14 Genotyping method provide information on RBC antigens for which standardized serologic typing reagents are not available and are responsive to high throughput testing with computerized interpretation. RBC antigen phenotypes determined by single nucleotide polymorphism analysis was compared with serologic testing for 13 routinely tested RBC antigens. The frequency of ... • 5. Essay on The Social Dimension of Sending Remittances Introduction The social impact of remittances is a very important area of research and discussion within academia and in the wider world. What is the effect of remittances on the senders, the receivers and the wider communities in which both sides live? This essay will attempt to address the issue of the social dimension of remittances by analysing the debate on this issues through a number of examples of both the sender experience and the receiver experience. In this way we are able to get a better picture of the power of remittances from a social context and what it means to both sides. Remittances Migrants remitted $338 billion globally in 2009 (Levitt and Lamba Nieves, 2). In the past 30 years studies into remittances have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore relationships are at the heart of what motivates a sender to remit to their loved ones. What is involved in the relationship between the sender and receiver that allows someone working thousands of miles away and often in terrible conditions to send their hard earned money to their families in their home country is an extraordinary example of the bonds that unite us. Author s Story, Remittances to Yemen . I am a second generation British Yemeni born in Liverpool. As a child my parents moved our family to Yemen to live. So from the age of 5 years old to the age of 9 years old I moved from inner city Liverpool to a small village in Yemen. I didn t speak any Arabic at all when I arrived and by the time I left at the age 9 I didn t speak any English at all. I remember my time in Yemen very fondly, it was an extraordinary time of adventure and discovery without television or radio. Due to my time in Yemen I developed a very strong connection to the country, even though following my return to the UK, I didn t visit Yemen again for 17 years until I went back to get married in 1998. This bond I developed remains to this day, this has meant regular trips to visit family and friends especially for my Yemeni born wife. As a mugtareb Arabic for migrant, I am expected from time to time to remit money. Most of the time this money goes to my parents who spend 6 months of the year in Yemen and 6 months in the UK. • 8. Pro Anorexia Persuasive Essay Anything that promotes an unhealthy lifestyle is inappropriate, right? Wrong. Eating disorders have been on the rise among teenagers, and whether or not pro anorexia websites should be banned is a hot topic of debate. People are quick to judge pro anorexia websites since they promote unhealthy lifestyles, but these websites can actually be a positive resource for those who suffer from eating disorders. Understanding Pro Anorexia Websites On a pro anorexia website, one might find pictures of unhealthily thin women, advice on how to stop eating, and motivational posts to help those who suffer from anorexia reach their goal weight. Some users even provide tips on how to overcome the various side effects that come with anorexia fainting spells, fatigue, and dehydration. These websites are usually blogs or discussion boards, and users often anonymously post and interact with others. For many sufferers, pro anorexia websites are the only resource that they feel comfortable resorting to. The Importance of Anonymity Those who suffer from eating disorders often resort to internet discussion boards because they are anonymous. Eating disorders are often criticized, and many sufferers are afraid of being judged or ridiculed by their family or friends. Those with anorexia often hear lines like Just eat a hamburger! or Why can t you just eat like the rest of us? Saying things like this to an anorexic person is not going to help them at all. • 10. Femininity Depicted Throughout The Hebrew Bible According to the late great mongolian marauder Genghis Khan The greatest happiness is to scatter your enemy, to drive him before you,to see his cities reduced to ashes, to see those who love him shrouded in tears, and to gather into your bosom his wives and daughters. Genghis Khan, much like the Hebrew Bibleduring certain points, regards women as objects. However, to write the Hebrew Bible off as fully misogynistic would not do the ancient texts justice. From Genesis to Judges 2, the Hebrew Bible objectifies women, uses them as scapegoats, but during certain points rises them to the level of highly admired Prophets and warriors. This essay attempts to explore the various undertones of femininity depicted throughout the Hebrew Bible. The story of the Concubine of a Levite in Judges 19 20 may be one of the harshest examples of female objectification throughout the Bible. The story takes place during a period without a monarch. It begins with the Levite Husband leaving his home to fetch his concubine who fled to her father s home in Gibeah. This story showcases the brutal rape of a nameless woman. The author of Judges 19 20 is a somewhat contested issue. Although rabbinic Sages believed that the book was written by the prophet Samuel, modern biblical scholars note that the work was not written by just one author. Many of these scholars believe that this was the work of Deuteronomistic redactors. However the positive expectations from the monarchy, the lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Deception, Lying, And Other Cases In Element 1, I will present some cases where deception is thought to be lying, and other cases where deception is not thought to be lying. I will contend that, when deception is lying, it is immoral and I will give reasons for why this is the case. After my presentation, I will take a look at some possible criticisms of my arguments and then answer those criticisms. Then, I will present my conclusions. In Element 2, I will contend that people for whatever reason choose to lie about things in order to persuade others into thinking that the truth is on their side. Lying takes a group of actions or words that are clearly false to the perpetrator to try to bait someone into thinking that it is truthful. When deceptions are thought to be lies, it can be a very eerie situation because the person that was lied to did not get complete or enough adequate information of what was told. Yes, what someone said may have been truthful, but not all of the information was being told. The person receiving the information is left without additional pieces to the story although he or she does not know this, which makes the person assume that what you said was the end all be all to the situation. These situations can likely equate to being a lie because of the information that was omitted. Once the person finds out that pieces of information was left out or incomplete, they will feel like they were lied to. Because the rest of the information or story was not fulfilled, the person can also be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Tilted Arc The Destruction of Public Art Tilted Arc (Figure 1) was brought down on the 15th of March of 1989 by the General Services Administration (GSA) in the centre of New York s federal plaza. Tilted Arc was a site specific work of a curved steel wall or barrier, that was 120 feet long and 12 feet high, with an arch that gave the effect of the wall leaning inwards. The GSA commissioned Richard Serra to build a sculpturefor the Art in Architecture program that would be placed in the plaza in front of the Jacob K Davits Federal building. The work was set up in 1981 and received a few critical comments. However, it was only when William Diamond, an appointee GSA New York Regional Administrator, started to investigate a bit more that he created substantial arguments against the sculpture to try and relocate it. Tilted Arc then became a controversial piece of work that involved the art world and major associations and resulted in a lawsuit and public hearing in 1985. The main issues that surrounded the controversy relate to the way in which the space was transformed, the rights of the artist, and censorship. In addition, we must question the role of public artin society, if certain works should be considered public art, and the ways in which power and politics can influence the arts. Richard Serra is... • 14. Nuclear Energy In Australia Essay Introduction Recently, there has been debates on whether or not Australia should result to nuclear energy for some of its energy source. The main issue is to do with the risk when nuclear energy is used. The chance of a nuclear disaster in a nuclear power plant is actually incredibly small, however, if the risk does occur, the consequence is devastating. (Gary Was, 2015). Australia also currently has no nuclear power generators, which is a surprise since it owns about 31% of the world s uranium resources. (Wikipedia, Last Modified 16 July 2015). Back in February 8th this year, Premier Jay Weatherill, said that there would be a, mature and robust conversation about South Australia s future participation in a nuclear fuel cycle, including the prospects for setting up nuclear power stations, uranium enrichment plants and a nuclear waste dump in the state. (George Lekakis, 2015). How it works Nuclear power plants work by turning water into steam. This steam then turns the turbine generators which produce the electricity. • 15. The United States Is The Only Industrialized Country... Currently, the United States is the only industrialized country without a statute requiring all employers to provide some kind of paid time off for its employees to care for a newborn or a sick loved one. Data gathered from 38 member countries of the Organization for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD) support this claim. Figure 1 shows the member countries and the length of maternity leave provided to all employees. The graph details only the averages. Maternity leave provisions can include 2 to 30 weeks paid at 100% of the employee s salary and an additional leave that can be as long as 52 weeks at 90% of the salary, or less in other countries. The OECD calculated the average paid maternity leave in the member countries to be 17 weeks, with an average payment rate of about 78%. There are 17 countries providing above average paid maternity leave benefits, including industrialized economies like the United Kingdom, Denmark, Finland, and Italy. On top of maternity leave, most OECD members also have an additional paid parental and home care leave available only to mothers. The organization summarizes this benefit in Figure 2 which shows that its average for the 38 member countries is about 37 weeks, with an average payout of 45% of the employee s original earnings. • 16. Explain The Musculoskeletal And Energy Systems P1 P1 describe the musculoskeletal and energy systems response to acute exercise Musculoskeletal The musculoskeletal allows the body to function through a group of muscles, bones, tendons, cartilage and ligaments. The body moves through different muscle contractions. This makes the bone pull towards the contracting muscles. The skeletal system provides a structure for the body, while the muscular system creates movement in the bones of the skeletal system by contracting and relaxing. When exercising, the muscles increase in pliability. This is when the muscles become more pliable as they become warm, reducing the chance of getting an injury. They become more pliable as the muscles contract really fast when exercising. The contractions generate heat take makes the muscle more pliable. Energy Systems The body uses different energy systems depending on the duration of the exercise. If the exercise is for a long period, the body will use the aerobic energy system. This system produces the most energy for the body, using oxygen. An example of an exercise that uses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This system creates energy without using any oxygen, meaning lactic acid will be created as a waste product. It is the fastest in creating energy in the body, but can only be used for a short amount of time. It is mainly used in events that last up to 30 seconds. And example of someone using this is a sprinter. This is because they need energy quickly as they are sprinting at high speed and it only lasts for around 10 seconds. One other energy system the body uses is the phosphocreatine system. It creates energy immediately as creatine phosphate is a high energy compound. It is used when the exercise is at a high frequency or when the body needs energy instantly. An example of this energy system in use is in football. When the footballer suddenly needs to sprint, he needs the energy immediately. The image shows the energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Renewable Energy Is Not The Answer Renewable Energy Is Not the Answer Renewable Energy is defined as: a renewable natural resource or source of energy, such as water, wind, or solar power (Oxford English Dictionary). There are those that believe that our nation should abandon the use of fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, and coal, and switch to renewable energysources. Although the change could yield many benefits, I believe that renewable energy is a not viable alternative for our nation s energy future because it would create an unfavorable environmental impact, it is not as reliable, and it would be too costly. Converting to renewable energy sources would have a devastating environmental impact. In addition to solar panels, wind turbines and hydroelectric dams would make up the largest portion of renewable energy generation. Wind farms create hazards in their areas of operation. They consume up to 200 times as much land as gas fired power plants (Langwith). If 25 percent of our nation s energy came from wind, the turbines would kill more than a million birds each year (Langwith). Experts have been unable to find a solution to this problem. Hydroelectric dams are harmful to the habitats of many fish. For example, the Bonneville Power Administration has an expensive program of capturing fish and moving them around its Columbia River dams. Their goal is to recover and preserve the Pacific Northwest Salmon. This creates a huge cost to fisheries and causes many environmentalists to support non hydro ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jean Grimshaw argues the idea that the discipline of Philosophy is gendered in some way by making a distinction between misogyny and philosophically significant maleness of philosophical theories. The maleness of philosophy is characterised by the fact that most of the practitioners of philosophy have been and are still male. Grimshaw argues that this fact alone does not establish the maleness of philosophy but gives a sense of understanding. He characterises this as sentience the ability having the capacity to suffer or experience enjoyment or happiness. Human speciesists do not accept that pain is as bad when it is felt by animals as it is felt by humans, which is the argument for extending the principle of equality to nonhumans. When making a distinction between animals and humans Singer states that there are many areas in which the superior mental powers of normal adult humans make a difference: anticipation, more detailed memory, greater knowledge of what is happening and so on. These differences between humans and animals lead to the conclusion that normal adult human beings have mental capacities which will, in certain circumstances lead them to suffer more than animals would in the same circumstances. However, Singer proposes that if we use this argument to justify experiments on nonhuman animals then we have to ask ourselves whether we are also prepared to allow experiments on human infants and retarded adults as they too would have no idea of what was going to happen to them. When I brought this difficult piece of music to my piano teacher to discuss the possibility of me learning it, she was a bit skeptical of my ability, since I was only a third year piano student. Despite this doubt, she allowed me to attempt to play this difficult, and dynamic piece of music. As I continued to practice this piece, I fell in love with the energy and the beauty in the melody. In the end, I learned this piece of music by heart and was able to play it with few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Paulo Freire s The Banking Concept Of Education One topic that is widely debated today is education and how well children are being taught. This is a hard thing to improve because every child learns differently. So how do you create a system to fit everyone s needs? A man named Paulo Freire studied the educational system and points out it s flaws in his essay, The Banking Concept of Educationwhere he explains how children are being taught and proposes a better method. Mike Rose in his essay, I Just Want To Be Average explains in detail his experiences in the schoolsystem and the problems he sees in school systems. In his essay The Banking Concept of Education Freire describes the faults in our current educational system and the method he believes should replace it. He shows how the banking concept of education creates an environment where students just receive and store information, but never question why things are the way they are. Then goes on to explain how in the banking concept teachers act as if they are superior to the students by referring to teachers as oppressors and students as oppresses. In his essay Freire also gives a solution to the problems he describes in the banking concept. It s called the problem posing method and it is an interactive way of learning where your mind is more engaged. This is a liberating educational experience where teachers and students are equal. That the teacher learns with the student and encourages them. He then describes how these two different methods affect the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Which of these would you find the most useful? According to Shulman (2012),some alternate assessment approaches are the social work networking map and the culturagram. I find the networking map the most useful in because the clients are able to have a visual picture of their life and most people are visual learners so I think that this would be the most effective. Clients need to know who is actually supporting them, because from my experience clients tend to push away the people that will or are supporting them. But they welcome people who do not support them. For example a drug user may not want to be around their family, but their family may be the best support they have. • 40. The Schematics of a Film Disk The characteristics of the disc surface affect the flow patterns generated on the film as well as the residence time of the reactants film. The effect of disc texture on particle characteristics is depicted in Figure 7 and Figure 8. It can be seen that using the grooved disc surface results in smaller particle size and narrower particle size distributionas compared to smooth disc surface. A narrow particle size distribution for the production of silver nanoparticles was achieved by Iyer et al.[43] using the grooved disc. The authors postulated that that the corrugated nature of the grooved disc promoted shear induced micromixing of the thin film on the disc at higher rotational speed. The efficient micromixing ensured that all the particles were exposed to the similar conditions to maintain a narrow size distribution [43]. Similar enhancement effects of grooved surfaces have been reported for styrene polymerisation in the SDR [9]. It has also been suggested in the literature that surface textures have the potential to suppress liquid channelling or rivulet flow compared to a smooth surface under identical conditions of liquid flowrate and liquid properties so that a higher wetted area is achieved [44]. Rivulet flow as opposed to film flow would result in larger average film thicknesses which may lead to detrimental performance, especially under strictly laminar flowconditions (i.e. where any surface wave induced turbulence is absent). Thus, the intensifying effects of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While you are dreaming, your body undergoes noticeable changes. Your adrenaline rises, your blood pressure increases, and you heart beats faster. Given this hyperactivity, it should be no surprise how someone with a weak heart can die in their sleep (dreammoods.com). It usually takes 30 90 minutes to reach REM, a person goes in and out of REM 4 7 times a night. During REM your eyes rapidly move back and forth under the eyelids. Our bodies are completely immobile and muscles are relaxed. You may shift around in your sleep but when in REM you are completely still. 2. Dreammoods.com states that Researchers have found why dreaming is so important and if you do not enter the dream phase it causes irritability and anxiety. They performed a study, where they would wake up a person right before they entered the REM stage, and then let the person fall back asleep, and then wake them up again and do this several times during the night. They repeated this over several nights. They then observed the subjects doing everyday activities and found they were disoriented, crabby, and quick tempered. This transcription factor, Hif 1, has many unknown possible cellular signaling pathways. One possible pathway interaction is between Hif 1 and its role in apoptosis and cell cycle control, since one of the effect of hypoxia is cell death. In the apoptosis pathway, the tumor suppressor protein, p53, is inhibited via Mdm2. This pathway has not been fully determined yet in the eastern oyster, thus it is speculated that Hif 1О± and p53 could interact directly or indirectly via Mdm2 (Schmid, 2004). Hif 1 and its control of cell cycle arrest can be evaluated using protein protein interactions. Due to most aspects of our lives being governed by the process of competition, and the demand for illicit goods being consistently high, it is my contention that extra legal institutions do present an efficient solution to the problems faced by self enforced exchanges. If one was to take advantage in this exchange, it would quickly be prison wide knowledge and the perpetrator would would be ostracised or assaulted. Fear of becoming an outlaw amongst other outlaws incentivises good behaviour and cooperation and as a result of this, the prison economy flourishes. However, since the 1950 s, it has been difficult to find a prison which is not densely populated. It is increasingly difficult for inmates to keep track of other prisoners and, in such a large group, ostracism is no longer a feasible punishment device and so prisoners began to organise themselves into gangs. Weapons of mass destruction might be described as weapon with the capacity to inflict death and destruction on such a massive scale and so indiscriminately that its very presence in the hands of a hostile power can be considered a grievous threat (WMDC, 2006). Most weapons of mass destruction are nuclear, biological, or chemical. The term is a relatively new one, as it first appeared in December 1937 in an address by Archbishop Of Canterbury. Weapons of mass destruction may also include fierce fighting machines such as tanks and atomic missiles. These arms can cause massive damage to physical structures such as buildings, roads, and bridges (Graham Talent, 2008). However, the meaning of the term was quite different from the way it is used in the contemporary international law. Weapons of mass destruction appear in the document signed by Harry Truman in 1945. After that, the term weapons of mass destruction was included in the titular resolution passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations (WMDC, 2006). The essential characteristics of these arms are their ability to cause large scale destruction. There is no single definition of the term large scale destruction .
