specifications are documented in detail which will lay the foundation of that software development
cycle. This requirement documentation defines what the software will do and how it will do it
and will also come in handy when there are future developments. Since all the specification
documents are prepared early on and presented to the customers and developments team, any
design changes that need to be made are captured in the early stages of the lifecycle which
minimizes effort and time later during the design phase or the implementation phase when the
coding is already done and more resources would be required to make necessary changes. Once the
requirements are gathered and documented, use cases and business model is generated that will...

As this phase is an iterative phase, it allows users to provide feedback on the design and modify
any design aspect which needs modification. It is repeated as often as necessary. The next phase
is the construction phase where the actual application is developed and a prototype is generated.
The users are involved in this phase as well to suggest any changes in the actual project screens
or reports. This approach has several advantages any existing problems be it design or logic can
be fixed earlier in the software development lifecycle instead of later in the stages which would is
more expensive to address. Another advantage of the prototyping model is that users could see and
use the software prototype and are more involved throughout the development. This resulted in less
surprises at the end because the users know exactly what they are getting. In this paper I will be
discussing the above two methodologies used in developing two different software projects. The
articles that my discussion is based upon are cited at the end of the paper For Indiana University,
the transition of their Course Management System (CMS) to Oncourse (CL) proved to be one such
projects where the training and education team which previously used waterfall development
methodology to produce their training materials realized shortly after that using the traditional
methodology wouldn t work. In waterfall method, the sequence of the project is extremely linear
and project is broken

Martin Luther King Speech Analysis
Throughout Martin Luther King Jr s. speech, he uses violence as a form of getting his
perspective and view across to his audience. King uses violence in order to persuade the
audience for other reasons differing from Barack Obama s view on violence. Martin Luther king
brings to light the amount of damage that violence is causing in order to pursue the audience
when saying I am mindful that only yesterday in Philadelphia, Mississippi, young people seeking
to secure the right to vote were brutalized and murdered. And only yesterday more than 40
houses of worship in the State of Mississippi alone were bombed or burned because they offered
a sanctuary to those who would not accept segregation. (pg.1). Although this seems upsetting,
King chooses to bring it to light in order to open societies eyes and convince them that violence
is destroying the world day by day. King says in his speech I believe that wounded justice, lying
prostrate on the blood flowing streets of our nations, can be lifted from this dust of shame to reign
supreme among the children of men. (pg.2). When King says this, it automatically gives society a
reason for automatically thinking that indeed we have violence in this world, and things should be
changed immediately. King brings this to the attention of society that he believes that we as a
community can change and turn into something better. King uses words like brutalized and
murdered to convince and persuade the audience into having a different view on why violence isn
t okay while Obama uses his view on violence to persuade his audience in a different manner.
Barack Obamabrings up the fact that non violence would not have put a stop to Hitler s armies
just like negotiation between the U.S. and al Qaeda s leaders wouldn t have made them put their
arms down and act any differently (pg.6). Barack Obama is trying to open up societies eyes and
give them a different viewpoint on his beliefs and how he thinks situations like the tragic
experience that Jews had to face in Auschwitz should be handled. In addition to the previous
statement, Barack Obama also talks about the fact that all nations must embrace the role that
milliteries with a clear mandate, order of commision, can have in order

Specific Inventions During The Industrial Revolution
Inventions and or Specific Inventors
Inventions and or specific inventors have had a big impact on society. Between the 18th and 19th
century there were many inventions being built during the industrial revolution. Some inventions
that played a role during the industrial revolution were the spinning jenny, steam engine, cotton gin
and many other things. Some of them were game changers like the spinning jenny which lead to the
mass production of textile and the steam engine which lead to faster travel and more trade.
A famous inventor, Thomas Edisoncreated many marvelous things but is mostly known for the
light bulb. He also created the phonograph which was a modified version of a telegraph. He
noticed the tape of the machine gave of a noise sounding like a spoken voice. Unlike the telegraph,
the phonograph played cylinders rather than discs. The machine had two needles: one for recording
and one for playback. When you spoke into the mouthpiece, the ... Show more content on

The cotton gin is a machine designed to remove cotton from its seeds. The process uses a small
screen and pulling hooks to force the cotton through the screen. It was invented by Eli Whitney on
March 14, 1794. It was one of the many inventions made during the industrial revolution. The
cotton gin made the cotton industry of the south explode. Previous to its invention, separating cotton
fibers from its seeds was a labor that was intensive and unprofitable since picking cotton was very
dangerous.
Thomas Edison s creation of the phonograph, Jame Watt s perfected steam engine, and Eli Whitney
s cotton gin have all had a great impact back on society in the 18th and 19th century. The mass
production caused by the spinning jenny and the ability to communicate from afar with the
phonograph were game changers in the industrial revolution. There are many inventions that
changed the world but these have had some of the greatest effects during that

The role of chess as a setting in the story presents an analogy with Waverly s life. She uses her
new knowledge of weaknesses and advantages (1426) to goad her mother into allowing her to
compete for the first time. She continues to press her advantage, getting the bedroom to herself
and berating her mother for watching her practice. In the chess game of life, however, Waverly
underestimates her opponent (daltonkr4). In the final battle with her mother, It is her mother s
teaching that corners her and she must return to the reality of her apartment; the alleys
contained no escape routes (1430). In the story s final scene she imagines herself rising above
the alley (1430). Waverly finds that she is alone and rising above her origins on Waverly place
which by no means results in the desired triumph. The physical and social settings portrayed in
Amy Tan s The Rules of the Game enables the story to emerge as more than the birth of a child
prodigy. Thus they make the story more profound. Arora 4 Works Cited Book Bausch, Richard and

Texas V. Johnson. The Case Texas V. Johnson Happened In
Texas v. Johnson The case Texas v. Johnson happened in 1984, Gregory Lee Johnson burned an
American flag to protest President Ronald Reagan in front of the convention center in Dallas,
Texas. He was a member of the Revolutionary Communist Youth Brigade (Texas v. Johnson in
1989: Summary, Decision Significance, Stephen Benz). During the 1984 Republican National
Convention, he participated in a political demonstration. The demonstrators were protesting the
policies of the Reagan Administration. While they were marching through the streets, another
demonstrator handed Johnson an American flag. Johnson set the flag on fire when they reached

Brenna. It indicated that the Court agreed with Johnson that flag burning constitutes a form of
symbolic speech that is protected by the First Amendment. And the Court disagreed with Texas
argument that Johnson s action breaches of the peace. What s more, it emphasized that the state
may not discriminate upon different view point. Justice John Paul Steven also wrote a dissenting
opinion, arguing the national flag is a valuable asset, and Johnson s action belittled the value of
this important national symbol (Texas v. Johnson, LII / Legal Information Institute). This case did
not change or add any amendments, but the first amendment played a big role in it. The First
Amendment guarantees the rights of free expression and action that are fundamental to
democratic government, These rights include freedom of assembly, freedom of the press,
freedom of religion, and freedom of speech (First Amendment, Dictionary.com). It protects
people s freedom of speech, and emphasize the right of symbolic speech as well, This case
remains relevant today, and it is still a controversial issue. Because under the first amendment,
people have the freedom of speech. The Court supports the flag burning is the same as other legal
forms of symbolic speech, such as sit ins and wearing armbands. After this case, several laws and
statutes had been brought up to make desecrating the flag a federal crime; but ultimately, all of
them were stuck down. Most recently,

Herma The Shepherd Research Paper
In modern times he is sometimes referred to as The Demon, The Devil, or The Ruler of Hell.
These are titles given to him to show his purpose in most of the modern world. Today he is
portrayed as the evil ruler of Hell who seeks the destruction of Mankind. This belief began in
early Christianity, and was reinforced by Lutherans, Protestants, and Catholics alike. Before the
second century ages it was thought that Satan and his demons could possess your body and cause
physical ailments such as blindness, impotency, and madness. This change had a great deal to do
with Herma s The Shepherd where everyone is depicted as having an angel and a Demon guiding
them at all time. The angel responsible for all the good, and the demon for the bad. This led

Blue Ocean Strategy At France s Insead Business School
Life is full of games, in which we always want to be the winner. Most of the time, to accomplish
this, we are ready to do whatever it takes to win without thinking how it effects others around us
and this leads the game to get bloody and the players to be merciless. The same pattern of struggle
for winning and the sense of game is relevant in the business world. In their book Blue Ocean
Strategy, W. Chan Kim and RenГ©e Mauborgne strategy professors at France s INSEAD
business school, proved that in this sphere, games don t always have to be this bloody by
conveying a world where companies profit and grow in a competition free environment. Reading
and discovering more than 150 business researches, Kim and Mauborgne help us to discover the
idea of this sphere, so called blue ocean, which became an essential in strategic business thinking.
In this review, we are going to summarize and analyze the strategies which Kim and Mauborgne
conveys.
Blue Ocean Strategy advocates that for a company to be successful, creating and opening a new
market space that no one has entered before is essential. In order to gain and to sustain the value
innovation, every single corporate and business owner should create and discover contentious
areas of the market that is ready to grow. This market place is called the blue ocean , a term that
should be, but still is not, a keystone for the managers. The book accepts the fact that this strategy
is not seen applicable enough by saying too risky

Dantes Inferno Essay
Dante s use of allegory in the Inferno greatly varies from Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot;
in purpose, symbolism, characters and mentors, and in attitude toward the world. An analysis of
each of these elements in both allegories will provide an interesting comparison. Dante uses
allegory to relate the sinner s punishment to his sin, while Plato uses allegory to discuss ignorance
and knowledge. Dante s Infernodescribes the descent through Hell from the upper level of the
opportunists to the most evil, the treacherous, on the lowest level. His allegorical poem describes a
hierarchy of evil.
Conversely, Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; describes the ascent from ignorance to

future.
In death they are doomed to exist with their heads on backwards and their eyes overflowing with
tears so that not only could they not see what was happening in front of them, but they could not
see at all due to these copious amounts of tears. Similarly, each sin had its own logical punishment,
and each group of sinners received the same punishment, with only a few exceptions. Such an
exception can be found in Canto XXlll when Caiaphas lies crucified on the floor while the other
hypocrites walk around him in circles. He is set apart because he counseled a Roman to crucify
Jesus. While the sinners represent man s imperfections, Virgil symbolizes human reason.
Throughout the poem, Virgil uses logic and reason to convince the monsters to allow him to gain
passage to the various circles of Hell. The use of characters and mentors is distinct in each piece.
quot; The Allegory of the Cave quot; presents few characters, and except for the one prisoner who
ascends from the cave, none are distinguished from the others. The one freed prisoner attempts to
become a mentor to the others but fails.
As he tries to enlighten the remaining prisoners he is received with anger and threats. Nothing is
learned about the characters as individuals. They remain nameless, faceless images. In contrast,
there are numerous characters in the Inferno. The sinners are arranged in

Rhetorical Analysis Of Patrick Henry
In the Patrick Henry s speech at the Virginia Convention Patrick Henry tries to persuade the
colonist to fight a war against the English, he does this through several main rhetorical strategies,
imagery, emotional appeal, and allusion. Patrick Henry uses imagery to get the listeners attention,
as he relates the to the dumb sailors who would get killed by the sirons cause they would be
caught in their beauty and singing. Patrick Henry uses emotional appeal to get the listeners on his
side, by bringing up slavery because if they do not fight back they can become slaves. Patrick
henry uses allusion so he can get the listeners to fight back, he butters them up and gives them a
couple reasons on why they should not fight back but then hit them with the news saying that they
have to fight back. Patrick Henrys speech was good because he used Imagery, Emotional appeal,

Persuasive Essay On The Seaworld
SeaWorld has been a well loved and renowned place to the USA and the families in it for over 53
years. The world famous entertainment park is well known for its wide variety of oceanic
animals, and of course, the part that brings them the most fame: their killer whale shows. Because
killer whales are so hard to find in the ocean, and going out on a whalewatching boat is usually
quite expensive, many people have ended up opting for the choice of going to SeaWorld to see
these animals. These shows are considered to be spectacular to some audiences, and an abusive
nightmare to others. Despite the fact that many people love SeaWorld and consider it to be a
fun and family friendly place, the person with educated knowledge about what really goes on in
this place could never see it the same way again, and should want something to be done about it.
SeaWorld has caused controversial problems to animal lovers, the people who work there, and of
course the killer whales themselves. SeaWorld should be talked about more in schools, educating
more young people in hopes that one day there is enough people to take a stand and get this place
to stop keeping killer whales captive.
In the truth revealing documentary Blackfish , the film reveals what these killer whales in
entertainment parks such as SeaWorld go through, along with the trainers who work with them. The
documentary shows clips and pictures of the killer whales mauling the trainers, and whales fighting

Native American Misrepresentation
Native Americans; A Prolonged Misrepresentation When hearing the words, African Americans,
Hispanics, or Caucasians, the majority of people in America will generally categorize the traits of
these nationalities based upon their roles displayed in the media, books, movies, or first hand
experience. The actions being made by their associations is stereotyping; defined in the Merriam
Webster dictionary as, [believing] unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic
are the same, revealing that even unknowingly, people are allowing nationalities to fall under a list

Oligopoly Market Structure
Oligopoly Oligopoly is a market structure in which the number of sellers is small. Oligopoly
requires strategic thinking, unlike perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition.
Under perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition, a seller faces a well defined
demand curve for its output, and should choose the quantity where MR=MC. The seller does not
worry about how other sellers will react, because either the seller is negligibly small, or already a
monopoly. Under oligopoly, a seller is big enough to affect the market. You must respond to your
rivals choices, but your rivals are responding to your choices.
In oligopoly markets, there is a tension between cooperation and self interest. If all the ... Show

Jack does not care that Jill s output is sold at a lower price.
The price effect is smaller for duopoly than monopoly, and the quantity effect favors more output
whenever price is above marginal cost. Therefore, the Nash equilibrium price will be closer to
marginal cost than the monopoly price. The more firms in the oligopoly, the smaller the price
effect will be, and the lower the Nash equilibrium price. When the number of firms approaches
infinity, the price effect approaches zero. Therefore, each seller will increase output whenever the
price is above marginal cost. In the limit, we have the perfectly competitive price, and the socially
efficient quantity.
A Brief Introduction to Game Theory Game Theory can be used to study oligopoly games other
than the quantity competition game played by Jack and Jill, as well as arms races, voting

Breastfeeding Is A Controversial Topic Over The Years
The practice of breastfeeding has become a very controversial topic over the years due to the
creation of alternatives to breast milk, increase in working mothers, and other reasons. Much
research shows that due to a variety of cultural, ethical, and economic reasons women should be
encouraged to breastfeed for a specific duration of time, while others believe that this is
unnecessary. Based on these three societal sectors, should women be encouraged to breastfeed? If
so, for how long should they breastfeed? Since the beginning of humans/ mankind breastfeedinghas
been practiced by mothers. Stevens and colleagues (2009) tell us the following information (pp.
32 39): Since the beginning of humans life on Earth, there have always been a number of
alternatives used to provide nutrients to infants. For example, in 2000 BC women fed animal milk
to their children. More recently, in the 18th century many women were encouraged to stay home,
breastfeed, and care for their children and husband (Stevens et al., 2009, 33). Some areas of the
world even believed that breast milkprovided the child with wisdom. Then in the 19th century, it
was a common idea that women were only equipped to breastfeed if she had a good diet,
exercised, and was mentally fit, but breastfeeding was highly encouraged. However, European
women during this time had wet nurses, or other women that would breastfeed the child that wasn t
biologically theirs (p. 35). People soon began to realize that this was a

His first class contained four girls and eleven boys. One of the students was named, Mary Ann

Mary Ann left quite an impression on her young teacher. Edmund now age 21, six foot and three

Arthur Black Essay
Arthur Black is a very opinionated man. In his essays about Canada, he has many short pieces
about the differences between Canadians and Americans. He states how there is never anything
bad said about Canada, and that Canada could even be considered a wallflower . In his essay
Canadian Passion Not Flagging, Black talks about how the Americans wave their flag and
Canadians do not. Americans have their flag everywhere; hanging inside malls, and even at the gas
stations. In his essay Canada: Too Polite to Live, it says how the American Declaration of
Independence demands life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Canadians have settled for peace,
order, and good government. Another difference between Americans and Canadians according to...

Also, to be Canadian, it is almost a must to have an interest in hockey. Hockey is the one sport
Canada can safely say they are the best at. People from Canada know a different level of cold
than places like the USA. In the article A Samaritan with Jumper Cables, Black says how this
aint a country; this is winter. Also in that article, he tells some stories about how polite and kind
people from Canada are and how if the car spun off the road or ran out of gas, Canadians would
be there to help right away. Arthur Black s main classification of Canada is polite, and that is most
likely the rest of the world s opinion also.
Your Canada Winter in Canada is much different than winter in other countries. For one, it is
much longer. Winter lasts about six to eight months, and it can be unbearably cold. The days are
significantly shorter than summer, which makes it that much harder to wake up for the day at
school or at work. Having to shovel the driveway isn t Canadians favorite pastime at seven in the
morning when they are going to be late for work. Also what needs to be taken into account is
making sure the car is plugged in during the night. When that is forgotten in the cold days of
winter, it is pretty hard to get anywhere because no car would start if it was sitting outside. The
season of winter in Canada isn t all bad though, it is very pretty at times. Waking up and looking

This genre is a poem containing 12 stanzas. The point of view in this piece is from the narrator s
perspective early on, the narrative distance moves further distant in the fourth stanza, zooms in,
then out again.
The narrator is walking down a street and pauses, with his companion, beneath the harlot s house
(Wilde, Longman p. 2069: 1.3). In the next two stanzas Wilde transitions to the inside of the house
depicting a partygoers atmosphere in Inside, above the din and fray (2.1) and shadows of the
figures inside are projected onto the blind (3.3). This movie projector type ... Show more content on

The narrator turns to his love and opines, the dead are dancing with the dead an insinuation that
these are not people, but sinners in their despised condition (9.2 3).
The final three stanzas contain the climax where the narrator s companion is wooed by the music
and chooses to go into the harlot s house Love passed into the house of Lust (10.3). Another
reading would have the narrator s love as the actual harlot herself. I find that harder to fathom, but
rather the story of the narrator s love wooed by the gaiety and frivolous lifestyle more believable.
The narrator s condemnation of this brothel is in keeping with the ending of the Victorian age, a
time ruled by propriety and prudishness. The companion of the narrator chose the allure of a
wanton, rule free lifestyle though.
This poem typifies Wilde s own life to some degree, in that he enjoyed marriage and fatherhood
but found married life a bore (Longman p. 2067). Wilde is then said to have become enamoured
of a book known as the bible of decadence (p. 2067) and similar to his poem, he then chose to
enter the harlot s house, so to speak. His biographer described his decision to follow decadence as
Wilde being summoned to the underground (p. 2067).
Wilde later fell in love with a young man, Lord Alfred Douglas, who unfortunately for Wilde, had a
father that disapproved of the relationship (p.

Why Do I Pronounce It Like Ont
He pronounced it like ant , and I pronounce it like ont. I also say pecan differently because I say
pecan as in soda can. I also do not call a carbonated beverage a sodie pop, I call it a soda or
sometimes even just a drink. I call the thing to change the T.V. a remote, not a flicker. Honestly, I
didn t even know that word even existed. I also do not pronounce both like there is a l in the word,
I pronounce it without the l sound. I also don t say y all either, I usually say only you guys or I just
say hey or just call everyone by their names, even if it is a group. I also just call a spider a spider,
not a gran daddy long legs. I also do not say ruin like rune. I also pronounce syrup, caramel, and
New Orleans differently. I usually pronounce New Orleans like New Orleens. I also pronounce
caramel like care a mel, like it is starting with the word care. I also say data with a short a instead
of a long a. I have always heard it pronounced it that way, so I picked up on that and started using
it. Additionally, even though it is rare, I still say sneakers instead of tennis shoes. Sometimes I

Additionally, I am Mexican, so I have a slight Spanish accent inside me, which makes my speech

Summary Of Sarah Polley s Stories We Tell
As Margaret Atwood stated, In the end, we ll all become stories (Atwood). Although this quote
appears to be obvious, there is a profound significance it carries in life. As memories are made, we
reflect on them and the stories that accumulate with those memories begin to define us. Sarah
Polley s 2013 Stories We Tell begins directly with Sarah presenting her storytellers, who are all part
of the family. She simply asks her family to tell the story, from the beginning, of her mother Diane.
They each have their own way of disclosing facts about Diane, but it s how each person uniquely
tells the story that is most interesting. Whether filled with pleasure, sorrow and even regret, each
person uniquely describes Diane s life. This reveals that how one is remembered or even currently
portrayed is established through the memories of others, mysteries and all. Through the use of
intimate interviews of her family members, Sarah Polleyin Stories We Tell successfully investigates
the reconstruction of her mother s existence, revealing the truthas murky. The memories and stories
families collectively tell are what define the truth. Each person s honesty reveals his or her
perspective on the story of Diane. The film uncovers details of the marriage of Sarah s dad
Michael and mom Diane. Each sibling describes Diane as exciting and Michael as more mellow.
The family members then continue describing the in s and out s of Diane s family, life and acting.

Amazing Grace Walberforce Leadership Qualities
The movie Amazing Grace follows the life of William Wilberforce, a young merchant s son who
took up a career in the House of Commons in Parliament. After converting to Christianity,
Wilberforce realized his calling was to end the horrific and dehumanizing reality of the slave trade.
During the course of his fight to end the slave trade in Great Britain, he exemplified many
leadershiptraits. These leadership characteristics stemmed from his vivid vision, were fueled by
his passionate values, and through relentless persistence, allowed him to change the most
powerful and influential nation in the world. One characteristic displayed by William
Wilberforce that is inherent to every leader is vision. The mission of a leader is to guide a group of

Perseverance is the leadership trait that often goes unnoticed in the life of a leader. Many people
see leaders following their success and never think about the years of hard work and failure that
occurred prior. In the case of Wilberforce, his persistence was staggering especially in light of all
the adversity he faced. During his decade long quest, he proposed multiple bills, all of which
failed. While proposing those bills, he was constantly jeered and mocked. His image and
reputation suffered, rumors were spread about him, yet he persevered. His health deteriorated to
the point of extreme suffering, yet he persevered. The final scene of the movie shows the respect
that Wilberforce received due to his perseverance as both his friends and political enemies gave
him a standing ovation following the passing of the bill that abolished slavery. Perseverance is the
trait that makes a leader stand out from the crowd. It shows that the leader is fully committed to
their cause, and no matter the hardships, they willing to see their vision established into

Changes In The Endocrine System
The endocrine system is made up of organs and tissues that produce hormones. Hormones are
natural chemicals produced in one place, secreted into the bloodstream and then used by other
organs and target systems. Hormones control the target organs. Some organic systems have their
own internal control systems in place of the hormones or together with them.
As we get older, natural changes occur in the way in which body systems are controlled. Some
target tissues become less sensitive to the hormone that controls them. The amount of hormones
produced can also change. The blood levels of some hormones increase, those of others decrease
and those of some others remain unchanged. Hormones also break down (metabolize) more slowly.

This region produces hormones that control other structures in the endocrine system. The amount of
these regulatory hormones remains almost the same, but the response from the endocrine organs
can change as we get older. The pituitary gland is also located in the brain. This gland reaches its
maximum size when people reach middle age and then gradually becomes smaller.
The thyroid gland is located in the neck. This gland produces the hormones that help control the
metabolism. With age, said gland can become protruding (nodular). The metabolism decreases
with time, beginning around 20 years of age. Because thyroid hormones are produced and broken
down (metabolized) at the same rate, tests of thyroid function are usually still normal. In some
people thyroid hormone levels may rise, leading to an increased risk of dying from cardiovascular
disease.
The parathyroid are four small glands located around the thyroid. Parathyroid hormone affects
calcium and phosphate levels, which affect bone strength. The levels of parathyroid hormones rise

My Writing Skills Has Effectively Improved
I remember when I first came to the Wilkes University, one of my edifier (?) (Friend, teacher,

In the beginning of my classes I was very nervous about how to write an essay. However, I
believe my writing skills has effectively improved. To be honest, English 101 wasn t an easy class
for me in the beginning. College writingis entirely different from high school writing. I always
have trouble with grammar when I write English essays, and it s harder for me to learn and
improve my skills in a short amount of time.
I m a young woman who transferred from China to America and I m not that familiar with how
to utilize English compared to a young woman who s who is from the United States of America.
That has never stopped me from trying and I will never give up. I like challenges and difficult
tasks, it tests my will and helps to achieve the goal I have set for myself. During this sixteenth
week, my writing skill improved dramatically compared to the beginning of the semester. That may
not be noticeable to others, but to me the improvement in my writing skill is very evident.
This course has helped me to understand the difference between college and high school writing.

Purpose/ Research Question: Determine the specific heat capacity of two unknown metals. Find
two Ionic compounds out of the several given chemicals that would synthesize in the product of the

specific heat capacity within five percent error. The ideal hand warmer for cost, toxicity, and heat

Procedures: We set up an appropriate apparatus including a Styrofoam calorimeter cup containing
room temperature deionized water, two thermometers, and a clean beaker also containing deionized
water directly on a heat source. After heating up the water until its boiling point, we recorded the
mass of each metal and carefully placed the selected metal inside the boiling water until the

The brief history of Sampling
The digital sampling existed since the 1960s, sampling was originally improved by musicians who
made an experiment and physically operate tape loops on a phonograph. Later on the late 1960s,

Essay On Financial Conglomerates
A conglomerate is a large corporation that comprises a number of diverse, apparently unrelated
businesses. A conglomerate can own a controlling stake in a number of smaller companies that
conduct businesses separately. In a conglomerate, the subsidiary businesses run independently of
the other business divisions, their managers reporting to the top management of the group
company. So, a conglomerate can be also called a multi industry company. Financial conglomerates
are nothing but financial giants that have a number of small financial companies working under
them. They, basically, are of two types, namely, financial holding and bank

It can take some time for the effects of the risky investments to really be visible in the corporate
beta. When this happens depends on the analysis frequencies and on the methods that are employed
for beta estimation. It can take time until analysts notice the change in the corporate risk profile
because they first need to see the higher volatility of returns of the company.
Capital Structure
Mrs Barbara Kravitz states to use the corporate target capital structure of 45 percent debt for
each division. Hence, this unique capital structure implies not to account for different application
and management in the several divisions. Moreover, some divisions can be threatened not being
competitive in their market. This is, because divisions operate in diverse markets with differing
market conditions. So the risks are not assigned to the divisions of the company but to the
corporate average. For instance, low risk divisions have to accept higher a higher cost of capital,
whereby high risk divisions have to pay less for their risk relative to the market, i.e. this approach
does not account for risk adjusted cost of capital.
Considering another approach, divisions can issue their own debt, but the corporation guarantees
the divisional debt. It is not a great difference to the Kravitz approach. When

Critical Reflection On Ethics
Critical Reflection
All three authors take a slightly different approach in explaining ethics with the analogies used, but
they are not that different at their core. Bonhoeffer (1995) describes a religious approach that
compares and contrasts the relationship with Jesus Christ and the influence on the ethical choices
of an individual. Palmer (2004), on the other hand, explains ethics using the wilderness and social
headliners to illustrate the current divide that exists. Finally, Borgmann (2006) uses a political
description of compromises for infrastructure that shapes the ethical views of the society such as the
Interstate Highway System that influenced future choices that now have consequences that need to
be managed. While the analogies are different, the root descriptions encompass a basic principle
that the conduct of an individual will determine the true ethical character of that person, but the
individual requires the support and direction from the society to truly influence a positive ethical
change. The expanse of that society is where the authors begin to divide with Bonhoeffer s (1995)
intended audience being countries based on Christian beliefs of the west, Borgmann (2006)
concentrating on the United States, and Palmer (2004) focusing on the individual within a specified
community that feeds to larger communities.

of the ethics they possess, but that the individual

The SanterГѓВa Religion and South Florida
SanterГa is a newly recognized religion within the United States. Many Americans who practice
more traditional religions, such as Catholicism, and Judaism, find the practice of Santeria very
odd and quite obscure. The preponderance of our society feels that the practice of animal sacrifice,
prevalent in Santeria, is immoral and possibly offensive. One reason for this reaction could be that
there is a major lack of understanding of this religionin our society.
Many people that do not practice this religion automatically assume that the religion is some sort of

respecting the rituals practiced by the followers. Ernesto Pichardo, the president of the LukumГ

Based on the previous statements, one can see that many people in the community have almost
hostile opinions towards the practice of this particular religion. For one, when Hialeah City Council

Moana ( HJA ) Stages In The Movie Moa
One occurrence of the Hero Journey Archetype (HJA) stages being utilized in the movie Moana

According to Campbell as cited and explained by Vogler, The hero is presented with a problem,

in the movie Moana directed by Ron Clements was when Moana desperately wants to go past the

The Pros And Cons Of Stress
Stress is a major part of everyday life, it is defined as a response to a threat or pressure. Stress is
caused by stressors, which are physical or psychological demands to which an individual
responds. A reaction or response to a stressor is called strain (Landy Conte, 2016, p. 372).
Whether it be physical or psychological stress, sound mental and body health are crucial when it
comes to performing job functions safely, efficiently, and effectively. Increased levels of stress
can often lead to mental health and psychical disorders at the expense of the worker. This very
reason is why it must be studied, resolved, and prevented in the workplace when possible.
Beginning with an assembly line worker, common stressors related to this position can include
physical stressors such as repetitive actions, heavy lifting, and persistent standing, or
psychological stress concerns with autonomy and lack of control. There is concerns that doing
repetitive motions and tasks can lead to musculoskeletal disorders, such as repetitive strain
injuries. OSHA has stated this including the mention of performing same or similar tasks
repetitively. Exposure to these known risk factors for MSDs increases a worker s risk of injury (
Ergonomics , 2017). Heavy lifting and persistent standing can contribute significantly to physical

Canis Major Research Paper
Canis Major is my favorite constellation, I don t have a particular reason for this constellation to
be my favorite, I just really like it. Canis Major, or The Greater Dog, is fairly easy to pick out in
the night sky during the winter. It is made up of eight main stars, the brightest one being Sirius.
Sirius also happens to be the closest starto Earth, in Canis Major.
Canis Major is said to be the dog Laelaps, who was so fast that nothing it chased could outrun it.
Laelaps had a whole bunch of owners, but eventually ended up with a man named Cephalus.
Together they traveled to Thebes, where a fox was terrorizing towns. This fox was very light
footed, and was destined to never be caught. This didn t stop Laelaps from trying. So the dog, who

New York City is a wonderful place full of adventure and opportunity, which attracts people from
all over the world who are eager to explore all that the city has to offer. One of the reason visitors
come to NYC is for the attractions, the monuments and landmarks. Although the city may have
many landmarks none bring me as much joy, love, peace and happiness as when I enter Central Park
. Surrounded by the city this park grants anyone an escape from the city life. New Yorkers are
always active and on the move leading busy lives and because of this people are constantly
feeling the stress and pressure that life in the city brings, but Central Park allows its people to
come and find rest. It is important that tourist and travelers see the beauty, peace and tranquility
that can be found in the middle of this busy city. Central Park is a place where one can cast away
their cares for a time and enjoy the simple beauty of nature.
Central park is not merely a place to come sit and soak in the sun but is full of rich historical
value. Central Park was built to increase public health and to help develop a more civil society.
Central Park started out as an undeveloped area that was unfitting for development filled with
swamps, bluffs, and rocky out cropping. This land was occupied be 1600 people who were mostly
poor immigrants such as Irish pig farmers, German gardeners and an African American settlement.
The African American settlement consist of 264 people

The blood is obtained by direct puncture to a vein, most often located in the antecubital area of

Bantu Migrations Essay
The Bantu migrations had a vast influence on the development of Africa. The Bantu peoples passed
on many concepts to the rest of Sub Saharan Africa. Originating from Nigeria in the Niger River
Valley, the Bantu migrated south and then spread to both the east and west. The Bantu laid the
foundation for Sub Saharan African societies. They spread agriculture, animal domestication, iron
metallurgy, and cultural development throughout southern Africa. Various forms of government
have developed as a result of the Bantu migrations. They also contributed to the start of many
societies, including the Swahili city states. The adaptations the Bantu people learned, especially the
making of iron, helped them to expand and spread their discoveries. As... Show more content on

Along with iron, bananas helped the Bantu expand into areas not possible before, allowing for
these amazing spreading of the Bantus discoveries. Once iron and bananas were well established
within Bantu tribes, about 1000 CE, their population sizes grew to about twenty two million!
The Bantu stopped migrating during the first century CE and started to form complex government
for the settled villages they already had. Stateless societies are forms of government that are not run
by a hierarchy, but rather through family or kinship groups. The start of these family based
government systems influenced the development of villages, districts, city states, and small and
large kingdoms. The Swahili tribe originating off of the eastern cost of Sub Saharan Africawas a
prime example of Bantu government. Being Bantu themselves, the Swahili show how the Bantu
spread not only government, but also societies as a whole. Just as the Bantus influence on
developing Africa, kinship groups, or family based governing systems, started out small and
eventually grew into massive kingdoms ruling and influencing entire regions. As in many other
places throughout the world, kingdoms brought a need for protection from neighboring regions.
The Bantu seeded the beginnings of African societies, along with starting military development and
growth throughout southern Africa.
One huge aspect of the Bantu tribes migrations was the amount of religion and rituals they spread
throughout Sub Saharan

Betrayal In King Lear
Shakespeare s King Lear fabricated a world of its own, in which distinct virtues and vices were
personified by individuals with diverse points of view. With each conflict in the play, the characters
actions and decisions were parallel to the integrity of their heart and mind, exhibiting the virtue or
vice they represented. With this strategy, Shakespeare shares that with trust should come discretion.
In these situations, the cast confronts instances of betrayal and eventually self growth. The story
initiates with King Lear s urgency for flattery, which drives him to commit a decision that
instigated the power hungry course of his daughters. The betrayal of Goneril and Regan caused
Lear to separate from his man made principles and praise those of nature. Besides the change in
Lear, the audience also observed Gloucester s position concerning the legitimacy of his two sons.
Societal views were a detriment regarding the rights of illegitimate children, like Edmund. Seeing
his brother Edgar conquer all his father s treasures, Edmund left his praise of nature behind and
instead exploited the reliance of status and relationships in his royal family to overcome the laws of
society, forming a great deception against his own family.
Edmund s frustration at the treatment of illegitimate children was present from the start of the
play, as he exclaimed: Why bastard ?/ [..] When my mind as generous and my shape as true / As
honest madam s issue? (I ii 6 7). He considered himself an

Comparing Utopia And Machiavelli s The Prince
Counsel to Royalty Thomas More s Utopia and Machiavelli s The Prince both concern themselves
with the fundamental issues of how a society works and maintains itself. The goals behind the two
works, however, differ considerably. The goal of Utopia is to illustrate the maintenance of an ideal
society and the goal of The Princeis to instruct a prince, or ruler, on how to maintain his state. On
the surface, these two goals may seem similar but the difference lies in the way the authors handle
the subject of power. As a manual, prince treats power as a necessity, a goal, to be worked towards
and maintained, almost at all costs. Utopia, a fantasy, treats power as something all individuals
have; rather, they are empowered. In both Utopia and The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Machiavelli begins by offering a short defense of why he, an ordinary citizen, should know more
than rulers about the art of ruling. He uses a metaphor to justify himself: a person standing on a
mountain is best positioned to survey the landscape below, and a person standing below is best
positioned to survey the mountain. Similarly, Machiavelli writes, to comprehend fully the
nature of people, one must be a prince, and to comprehend fully the nature of princes one must
be an ordinary citizen (pg.4). Implicit in this claim is the idea that the removed perspective of
an observer is a more reliable guide than practical experience and a better means of improving
the art of ruling. Machiavelli asserts that he is most qualified to write the art of ruling for the
prince because of his previous experiences and studies. He states that a person who is not a
prince is most competent to help or teach the prince, since he knows and understands the people
which the prince rules, and sees the prince s job from another point of view. Since Machiavelli
encompasses the outside point of view; he feels he could improve the art of ruling better than
someone who occupies a higher rank than he. One discrepancy in Machiavelli s notion of the
important of counsel for the Prince occurs when Machiavelli warns of flatterers, of whom courts
are full because men are so self complacent in their own

An Analysis on Loneliness Let me tell you this: If you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it
s not because they enjoy solitude. It s because they have tried to blend into the world before and
people continue to disappointment them (Picoult). Poignant quote that is a perfect introduction to
an discussion on the loneliness and
Disappointment in life. Loneliness and disappointment are universal struggles suffered by mankind
since the beginning of time. Loneliness and disappointment are so common that every person will
feel their impact at some point in life. As common as they are to the human experience, each person
s experience with loneliness and disappointment is uniquely individual.
For some people, these feelings are brief. For others loneliness and disappointment follow them
Like a shadow, haunting them to the very depths of their soul. Because each of these feelings effect
so many people in such a profound fashion they are often found as recurrent themes throughout
literature and a favorite subject for many authors. One such writer is science fiction author, Ray
Bradbury. Bradbury and his short story, The Fog Horn, is an example of the
Ramification of loneliness and disappointment, and how people, or in this case people and
creatures respond to them. In The Fog Horn, Bradbury uses the symbol of the lighthouse and its

Blood In Macbeth s Role Of Blood Play
Macbeth Role of Blood Play
The violence and the blood that results are important symbols in Shakespeare s Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth. The blood imagery for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is guilty, murder, remouse and
power. It shows Macbeth had killed King Duncan, Banquo and the Guards to get what he want for
him to be a king in Shakespeare. Lady Macbeth The story illustrates the act of murder has changed
Macbeth s character. But it no longer does the blood connote an image of ambition; it now
symbolizes guilt, remorse, and an entry into the gates of hell from which no one can return.
Macbeth laments that not even all the water in the sink will wash the blood off his hands, he is
beginning to realize the immensity of his crime, and that he has done something truly evil.
Macbeth say, It will have blood, they say. Blood will have blood./ By magot pies and choughs and
rooks brought forth/ The secret st man of blood./ What is the night? (Act III, Scene 4, Lines 122
126). The imagined blood haunts both characters, following them until their death.
The main theme of Macbeth is he a courageous Scottish general who is not naturally inclined to
commit evil deeds, yet he deeply desires power and advancement. Toward the end of the play he
descends into a kind of frantic, boastful madness. Lady Macbeth, on the other hand, pursues her
goals with greater determination, yet she is less capable of withstanding the repercussions of
her immoral acts. Macbeth says Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood/ Clean from my
hand? Macbeth cries after he has killed Duncan, even as his wife scolds him and says that a little
water will do the job (Act II, Scene 2, Lines 58 59).The different reaction in Macbeth is stunned and
seemingly in shock after he has killed Duncan. He tells his wife he heard voices. Some of those
voices were real people talking in their sleep or saying their prayer before bed.
This same blood symbolism continues when Macbeth, shortly after he sees the ghost of the
murdered Banquo at his feast, goes into a state of shock and has to be escorted back to his chamber
by Lady Macbeth. He tells Lady Macbeth before he goes to sleep, All causes shall give way: I am
in blood / Stepp d in so far that, should I wade no

The Enormous Growth During the Renaissance
The term Renaissance in general refers to Rebirth or Reconstruction . To be exact, the meaning
came from all the changes experienced and inventive ideas that influence during the European
history. The Renaissance occurred between the 14th and 17th century when there was revival in
both learning and culture in Europe. It began in Florence, Italy and traveled throughout other city
states in Italy. It mainly occurred in Italy due to the history of Rome and Roman Empire. The
Renaissancewas a cultural movement that swept through Europe because of a diversion in
significant understanding. Italy was so wealthy that people were willing to spend their money to
encourage the artists. With that being said, the Renaissance was a time in which society
experienced an enormous growth. This development was not only financial, but also in the cultural
areas. Artists and Bookman were perusing the teachings and artwork of ancient Greece and Rome.
It was a tremendous strike in many fields in particular to art, literature, education, political science,
and history of the future generation.
The Rebirth changes in the style of art and also the perspective of artists. Political changes in the
ruling class of Italy shortly before the period had led to the rulers of the major city states being
new men without much of a political history. They try to regulate themselves with noticeable
display, spectacle, including all forms of art and creativity. The artists keen to use their new

The Lost Of Idealism In Good Country People
The Lost Of Idealism
The definition of idealism is: In philosophy, Idealism is the group of philosophies which assert
that reality, or reality as we can know it, is fundamentally mental, mentally constructed. It can be
very troubling when we lose our sense of idealism. Human beings have at some point in time
experienced idealism in their lives. There are many stories and poems detailing the tragic loss of
idealism that people have encountered. A story that I will be focusing on is the Good Country
People by Flannery O Conner,(Diyanni 172), and a poem by Emily Dickinson After Great Pain
,Formal Feeling Come (Diyanni 641). I will be comparing the pieces showing why I think Good
Country People is better in terms of portraying the theme losing your sense of idealism. In the
short story Good Country People the main character s name is Joy though we learn she changed it
to Hulga. Hulga is a self proclaimed nihilist, a person who believes in nothing and that nothing
matters. It is her belief of nihilism is why Hulga believes she is intellectually superior to everyone
else around her including her mother Mrs. Freeman. It s implied in the story that Hulga resents
her mother to some extent which is part of the reason why she legally changed her name from Joy
to Hulga. When Hulga changed her name, O Conner said, That it emotionally wounded the mother
so deeply that she would never truly heal. (Diyanni 178) Mrs. Hopewell seems to be well aware of
Hulga resentment

The Importance Of Co-Presence In Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting has become an influence in contemporary times as it is a way of communication
to a wider audience. Through radio broadcasting, we are introduced to a variety of components,
different music genres, currents events both locally and internationally, competitions, free
giveaways and live interactions between presenters and listeners. However, it is the idea of co
presence that is stimulated through these components in which makes radio broadcastingexciting to
listen to and engage with. The realm of co presence within radio broadcast has defined how the
audience is actually listening to their preferred radio stations. In this essay will discuss and break
down concepts such as intimacy, liveness and the implied audience that define the hegemony of co
presence with in radio broadcastingas described by Hugh Chignell s in his text, Key Concepts in
Radio Studies (2009). This essay will also be focusing on how the Mai FM breakfast show, Mai
Mornings (2017), deliver Chignell s concepts in order to understand the importance of co presence.
Mai FM is a hip hop and RnB station that is broadcasted all over New Zealand, and throughout the
radio station, Chignell s concepts are highlighted. Scholarly references will also be included
throughout to shape the argument.

A Brief Note On The Primary Function Of Exec
Lab 2
CSNB324
Muath Abdullah SN091649
Answer Q1:
Execv(): it is a prototype of exec family, v is added to indicate the type of argument which in this
case specified as a vector (array of character pointers). The primary function of exec () system call
is to execute a file or a program. This is done by creating a new process image from a regular,
executable file.
This file is either an interpreter script or an executable file object. It has the form execv(char
*path, char *argv[], char *envp[]). The path argument is the pathname of a file that contains the
new program to be executed. The argv array is a list of parameter strings, and the envp array is a
list of environment variable strings and values that should be used when the process begins
executing the new programs. When a process encounters the execve() system call, the next
instruction it executes will be the one at the entry point of the new executable file.
Execvp()
The created child process does not have to run the same program as the parent process does. The
exec type system calls allow a process to run any program files, which include a binary
executable or a shell script. On this page, we only discuss one such system call: execvp(). The
execvp() system call requires two arguments: 1. The first argument is a character string that
contains the name of a file to be executed.
2. The second argument is a pointer to an array of character strings. More precisely, its type is char

  • 2. Rapid Application Development And Early Phases Of The... specifications are documented in detail which will lay the foundation of that software development cycle. This requirement documentation defines what the software will do and how it will do it and will also come in handy when there are future developments. Since all the specification documents are prepared early on and presented to the customers and developments team, any design changes that need to be made are captured in the early stages of the lifecycle which minimizes effort and time later during the design phase or the implementation phase when the coding is already done and more resources would be required to make necessary changes. Once the requirements are gathered and documented, use cases and business model is generated that will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As this phase is an iterative phase, it allows users to provide feedback on the design and modify any design aspect which needs modification. It is repeated as often as necessary. The next phase is the construction phase where the actual application is developed and a prototype is generated. The users are involved in this phase as well to suggest any changes in the actual project screens or reports. This approach has several advantages any existing problems be it design or logic can be fixed earlier in the software development lifecycle instead of later in the stages which would is more expensive to address. Another advantage of the prototyping model is that users could see and use the software prototype and are more involved throughout the development. This resulted in less surprises at the end because the users know exactly what they are getting. In this paper I will be discussing the above two methodologies used in developing two different software projects. The articles that my discussion is based upon are cited at the end of the paper For Indiana University, the transition of their Course Management System (CMS) to Oncourse (CL) proved to be one such projects where the training and education team which previously used waterfall development methodology to produce their training materials realized shortly after that using the traditional methodology wouldn t work. In waterfall method, the sequence of the project is extremely linear and project is broken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Martin Luther King Speech Analysis Throughout Martin Luther King Jr s. speech, he uses violence as a form of getting his perspective and view across to his audience. King uses violence in order to persuade the audience for other reasons differing from Barack Obama s view on violence. Martin Luther king brings to light the amount of damage that violence is causing in order to pursue the audience when saying I am mindful that only yesterday in Philadelphia, Mississippi, young people seeking to secure the right to vote were brutalized and murdered. And only yesterday more than 40 houses of worship in the State of Mississippi alone were bombed or burned because they offered a sanctuary to those who would not accept segregation. (pg.1). Although this seems upsetting, King chooses to bring it to light in order to open societies eyes and convince them that violence is destroying the world day by day. King says in his speech I believe that wounded justice, lying prostrate on the blood flowing streets of our nations, can be lifted from this dust of shame to reign supreme among the children of men. (pg.2). When King says this, it automatically gives society a reason for automatically thinking that indeed we have violence in this world, and things should be changed immediately. King brings this to the attention of society that he believes that we as a community can change and turn into something better. King uses words like brutalized and murdered to convince and persuade the audience into having a different view on why violence isn t okay while Obama uses his view on violence to persuade his audience in a different manner. Barack Obamabrings up the fact that non violence would not have put a stop to Hitler s armies just like negotiation between the U.S. and al Qaeda s leaders wouldn t have made them put their arms down and act any differently (pg.6). Barack Obama is trying to open up societies eyes and give them a different viewpoint on his beliefs and how he thinks situations like the tragic experience that Jews had to face in Auschwitz should be handled. In addition to the previous statement, Barack Obama also talks about the fact that all nations must embrace the role that milliteries with a clear mandate, order of commision, can have in order ... Between the 18th and 19th century there were many inventions being built during the industrial revolution. Some inventions that played a role during the industrial revolution were the spinning jenny, steam engine, cotton gin and many other things. Some of them were game changers like the spinning jenny which lead to the mass production of textile and the steam engine which lead to faster travel and more trade. A famous inventor, Thomas Edisoncreated many marvelous things but is mostly known for the light bulb. He also created the phonograph which was a modified version of a telegraph. The cotton gin is a machine designed to remove cotton from its seeds. The process uses a small screen and pulling hooks to force the cotton through the screen. It was invented by Eli Whitney on March 14, 1794. It was one of the many inventions made during the industrial revolution. The cotton gin made the cotton industry of the south explode. Previous to its invention, separating cotton fibers from its seeds was a labor that was intensive and unprofitable since picking cotton was very dangerous. Thomas Edison s creation of the phonograph, Jame Watt s perfected steam engine, and Eli Whitney s cotton gin have all had a great impact back on society in the 18th and 19th century. The role of chess as a setting in the story presents an analogy with Waverly s life. She uses her new knowledge of weaknesses and advantages (1426) to goad her mother into allowing her to compete for the first time. She continues to press her advantage, getting the bedroom to herself and berating her mother for watching her practice. In the chess game of life, however, Waverly underestimates her opponent (daltonkr4). In the final battle with her mother, It is her mother s teaching that corners her and she must return to the reality of her apartment; the alleys contained no escape routes (1430). In the story s final scene she imagines herself rising above the alley (1430). Waverly finds that she is alone and rising above her origins on Waverly place which by no means results in the desired triumph. The physical and social settings portrayed in Amy Tan s The Rules of the Game enables the story to emerge as more than the birth of a child prodigy. Thus they make the story more profound. It indicated that the Court agreed with Johnson that flag burning constitutes a form of symbolic speech that is protected by the First Amendment. And the Court disagreed with Texas argument that Johnson s action breaches of the peace. What s more, it emphasized that the state may not discriminate upon different view point. Justice John Paul Steven also wrote a dissenting opinion, arguing the national flag is a valuable asset, and Johnson s action belittled the value of this important national symbol (Texas v. Johnson, LII / Legal Information Institute). This case did not change or add any amendments, but the first amendment played a big role in it. The First Amendment guarantees the rights of free expression and action that are fundamental to democratic government, These rights include freedom of assembly, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech (First Amendment, Dictionary.com). It protects people s freedom of speech, and emphasize the right of symbolic speech as well, This case remains relevant today, and it is still a controversial issue. Because under the first amendment, people have the freedom of speech. The Court supports the flag burning is the same as other legal forms of symbolic speech, such as sit ins and wearing armbands. After this case, several laws and statutes had been brought up to make desecrating the flag a federal crime; but ultimately, all of them were stuck down. Most recently, ... These are titles given to him to show his purpose in most of the modern world. Today he is portrayed as the evil ruler of Hell who seeks the destruction of Mankind. This belief began in early Christianity, and was reinforced by Lutherans, Protestants, and Catholics alike. Before the second century ages it was thought that Satan and his demons could possess your body and cause physical ailments such as blindness, impotency, and madness. Most of the time, to accomplish this, we are ready to do whatever it takes to win without thinking how it effects others around us and this leads the game to get bloody and the players to be merciless. The same pattern of struggle for winning and the sense of game is relevant in the business world. In their book Blue Ocean Strategy, W. Chan Kim and RenГ©e Mauborgne strategy professors at France s INSEAD business school, proved that in this sphere, games don t always have to be this bloody by conveying a world where companies profit and grow in a competition free environment. Reading and discovering more than 150 business researches, Kim and Mauborgne help us to discover the idea of this sphere, so called blue ocean, which became an essential in strategic business thinking. In this review, we are going to summarize and analyze the strategies which Kim and Mauborgne conveys. Blue Ocean Strategy advocates that for a company to be successful, creating and opening a new market space that no one has entered before is essential. In order to gain and to sustain the value innovation, every single corporate and business owner should create and discover contentious areas of the market that is ready to grow. This market place is called the blue ocean , a term that should be, but still is not, a keystone for the managers. Dantes Inferno Essay Dante s use of allegory in the Inferno greatly varies from Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; in purpose, symbolism, characters and mentors, and in attitude toward the world. An analysis of each of these elements in both allegories will provide an interesting comparison. Dante uses allegory to relate the sinner s punishment to his sin, while Plato uses allegory to discuss ignorance and knowledge. Dante s Infernodescribes the descent through Hell from the upper level of the opportunists to the most evil, the treacherous, on the lowest level. His allegorical poem describes a hierarchy of evil. Conversely, Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; describes the ascent from ignorance to knowledge, as one prisoner is freed to make his ... In death they are doomed to exist with their heads on backwards and their eyes overflowing with tears so that not only could they not see what was happening in front of them, but they could not see at all due to these copious amounts of tears. Similarly, each sin had its own logical punishment, and each group of sinners received the same punishment, with only a few exceptions. Such an exception can be found in Canto XXlll when Caiaphas lies crucified on the floor while the other hypocrites walk around him in circles. He is set apart because he counseled a Roman to crucify Jesus. While the sinners represent man s imperfections, Virgil symbolizes human reason. Throughout the poem, Virgil uses logic and reason to convince the monsters to allow him to gain passage to the various circles of Hell. The use of characters and mentors is distinct in each piece. quot; The Allegory of the Cave quot; presents few characters, and except for the one prisoner who ascends from the cave, none are distinguished from the others. The one freed prisoner attempts to become a mentor to the others but fails. As he tries to enlighten the remaining prisoners he is received with anger and threats. Nothing is learned about the characters as individuals. They remain nameless, faceless images. In contrast, there are numerous characters in the Inferno. The sinners are arranged in ... Rhetorical Analysis Of Patrick Henry In the Patrick Henry s speech at the Virginia Convention Patrick Henry tries to persuade the colonist to fight a war against the English, he does this through several main rhetorical strategies, imagery, emotional appeal, and allusion. Patrick Henry uses emotional appeal to get the listeners on his side, by bringing up slavery because if they do not fight back they can become slaves. Patrick henry uses allusion so he can get the listeners to fight back, he butters them up and gives them a couple reasons on why they should not fight back but then hit them with the news saying that they have to fight back. • 12. Persuasive Essay On The Seaworld SeaWorld has been a well loved and renowned place to the USA and the families in it for over 53 years. The world famous entertainment park is well known for its wide variety of oceanic animals, and of course, the part that brings them the most fame: their killer whale shows. Because killer whales are so hard to find in the ocean, and going out on a whalewatching boat is usually quite expensive, many people have ended up opting for the choice of going to SeaWorld to see these animals. These shows are considered to be spectacular to some audiences, and an abusive nightmare to others. Despite the fact that many people love SeaWorld and consider it to be a fun and family friendly place, the person with educated knowledge about what really goes on in this place could never see it the same way again, and should want something to be done about it. SeaWorld has caused controversial problems to animal lovers, the people who work there, and of course the killer whales themselves. SeaWorld should be talked about more in schools, educating more young people in hopes that one day there is enough people to take a stand and get this place to stop keeping killer whales captive. In the truth revealing documentary Blackfish , the film reveals what these killer whales in entertainment parks such as SeaWorld go through, along with the trainers who work with them. Native American Misrepresentation Native Americans; A Prolonged Misrepresentation When hearing the words, African Americans, Hispanics, or Caucasians, the majority of people in America will generally categorize the traits of these nationalities based upon their roles displayed in the media, books, movies, or first hand experience. The actions being made by their associations is stereotyping; defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as, [believing] unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic are the same, revealing that even unknowingly, people are allowing nationalities to fall under a list of behavioral, cultural, and moral traits. Oligopoly requires strategic thinking, unlike perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition. Under perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition, a seller faces a well defined demand curve for its output, and should choose the quantity where MR=MC. The seller does not worry about how other sellers will react, because either the seller is negligibly small, or already a monopoly. Under oligopoly, a seller is big enough to affect the market. Breastfeeding Is A Controversial Topic Over The Years The practice of breastfeeding has become a very controversial topic over the years due to the creation of alternatives to breast milk, increase in working mothers, and other reasons. Much research shows that due to a variety of cultural, ethical, and economic reasons women should be encouraged to breastfeed for a specific duration of time, while others believe that this is unnecessary. Based on these three societal sectors, should women be encouraged to breastfeed? If so, for how long should they breastfeed? Since the beginning of humans/ mankind breastfeedinghas been practiced by mothers. Stevens and colleagues (2009) tell us the following information (pp. 32 39): Since the beginning of humans life on Earth, there have always been a number of alternatives used to provide nutrients to infants. For example, in 2000 BC women fed animal milk to their children. More recently, in the 18th century many women were encouraged to stay home, breastfeed, and care for their children and husband (Stevens et al., 2009, 33). Some areas of the world even believed that breast milkprovided the child with wisdom. Then in the 19th century, it was a common idea that women were only equipped to breastfeed if she had a good diet, exercised, and was mentally fit, but breastfeeding was highly encouraged. However, European women during this time had wet nurses, or other women that would breastfeed the child that wasn t biologically theirs (p. 35). People soon began to realize that this was a ... This genre is a poem containing 12 stanzas. The point of view in this piece is from the narrator s perspective early on, the narrative distance moves further distant in the fourth stanza, zooms in, then out again. The narrator is walking down a street and pauses, with his companion, beneath the harlot s house (Wilde, Longman p. 2069: 1.3). In the next two stanzas Wilde transitions to the inside of the house depicting a partygoers atmosphere in Inside, above the din and fray (2.1) and shadows of the figures inside are projected onto the blind (3.3). The narrator turns to his love and opines, the dead are dancing with the dead an insinuation that these are not people, but sinners in their despised condition (9.2 3). The final three stanzas contain the climax where the narrator s companion is wooed by the music and chooses to go into the harlot s house Love passed into the house of Lust (10.3). Another reading would have the narrator s love as the actual harlot herself. I find that harder to fathom, but rather the story of the narrator s love wooed by the gaiety and frivolous lifestyle more believable. The narrator s condemnation of this brothel is in keeping with the ending of the Victorian age, a time ruled by propriety and prudishness. The companion of the narrator chose the allure of a wanton, rule free lifestyle though. This poem typifies Wilde s own life to some degree, in that he enjoyed marriage and fatherhood but found married life a bore (Longman p. 2067). Wilde is then said to have become enamoured of a book known as the bible of decadence (p. 2067) and similar to his poem, he then chose to enter the harlot s house, so to speak. His biographer described his decision to follow decadence as Wilde being summoned to the underground (p. 2067). Critical Reflection On Ethics Critical Reflection All three authors take a slightly different approach in explaining ethics with the analogies used, but they are not that different at their core. Bonhoeffer (1995) describes a religious approach that compares and contrasts the relationship with Jesus Christ and the influence on the ethical choices of an individual. Palmer (2004), on the other hand, explains ethics using the wilderness and social headliners to illustrate the current divide that exists. Finally, Borgmann (2006) uses a political description of compromises for infrastructure that shapes the ethical views of the society such as the Interstate Highway System that influenced future choices that now have consequences that need to be managed. While the analogies are different, the root descriptions encompass a basic principle that the conduct of an individual will determine the true ethical character of that person, but the individual requires the support and direction from the society to truly influence a positive ethical change. The expanse of that society is where the authors begin to divide with Bonhoeffer s (1995) intended audience being countries based on Christian beliefs of the west, Borgmann (2006) concentrating on the United States, and Palmer (2004) focusing on the individual within a specified community that feeds to larger communities. Stress is caused by stressors, which are physical or psychological demands to which an individual responds. A reaction or response to a stressor is called strain (Landy Conte, 2016, p. 372). Whether it be physical or psychological stress, sound mental and body health are crucial when it comes to performing job functions safely, efficiently, and effectively. Increased levels of stress can often lead to mental health and psychical disorders at the expense of the worker. This very reason is why it must be studied, resolved, and prevented in the workplace when possible. Beginning with an assembly line worker, common stressors related to this position can include physical stressors such as repetitive actions, heavy lifting, and persistent standing, or psychological stress concerns with autonomy and lack of control. There is concerns that doing repetitive motions and tasks can lead to musculoskeletal disorders, such as repetitive strain injuries. With each conflict in the play, the characters actions and decisions were parallel to the integrity of their heart and mind, exhibiting the virtue or vice they represented. With this strategy, Shakespeare shares that with trust should come discretion. In these situations, the cast confronts instances of betrayal and eventually self growth. The story initiates with King Lear s urgency for flattery, which drives him to commit a decision that instigated the power hungry course of his daughters. The betrayal of Goneril and Regan caused Lear to separate from his man made principles and praise those of nature. Besides the change in Lear, the audience also observed Gloucester s position concerning the legitimacy of his two sons. Societal views were a detriment regarding the rights of illegitimate children, like Edmund. The goal of Utopia is to illustrate the maintenance of an ideal society and the goal of The Princeis to instruct a prince, or ruler, on how to maintain his state. On the surface, these two goals may seem similar but the difference lies in the way the authors handle the subject of power. Machiavelli begins by offering a short defense of why he, an ordinary citizen, should know more than rulers about the art of ruling. He uses a metaphor to justify himself: a person standing on a mountain is best positioned to survey the landscape below, and a person standing below is best positioned to survey the mountain. Similarly, Machiavelli writes, to comprehend fully the nature of people, one must be a prince, and to comprehend fully the nature of princes one must be an ordinary citizen (pg.4). Implicit in this claim is the idea that the removed perspective of an observer is a more reliable guide than practical experience and a better means of improving the art of ruling. Machiavelli asserts that he is most qualified to write the art of ruling for the prince because of his previous experiences and studies. He states that a person who is not a prince is most competent to help or teach the prince, since he knows and understands the people which the prince rules, and sees the prince s job from another point of view. Since Machiavelli encompasses the outside point of view; he feels he could improve the art of ruling better than someone who occupies a higher rank than he. • 48. Blood In Macbeth s Role Of Blood Play Macbeth Role of Blood Play The violence and the blood that results are important symbols in Shakespeare s Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. The blood imagery for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is guilty, murder, remouse and power. It shows Macbeth had killed King Duncan, Banquo and the Guards to get what he want for him to be a king in Shakespeare. Lady Macbeth The story illustrates the act of murder has changed Macbeth s character. But it no longer does the blood connote an image of ambition; it now symbolizes guilt, remorse, and an entry into the gates of hell from which no one can return. Macbeth laments that not even all the water in the sink will wash the blood off his hands, he is beginning to realize the immensity of his crime, and that he has done something truly evil. Macbeth say, It will have blood, they say. Blood will have blood./ By magot pies and choughs and rooks brought forth/ The secret st man of blood./ What is the night? (Act III, Scene 4, Lines 122 126). The imagined blood haunts both characters, following them until their death. The main theme of Macbeth is he a courageous Scottish general who is not naturally inclined to commit evil deeds, yet he deeply desires power and advancement. Toward the end of the play he descends into a kind of frantic, boastful madness. Lady Macbeth, on the other hand, pursues her goals with greater determination, yet she is less capable of withstanding the repercussions of her immoral acts. Macbeth says Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood/ Clean from my hand? Macbeth cries after he has killed Duncan, even as his wife scolds him and says that a little water will do the job (Act II, Scene 2, Lines 58 59).The different reaction in Macbeth is stunned and seemingly in shock after he has killed Duncan. He tells his wife he heard voices. Some of those voices were real people talking in their sleep or saying their prayer before bed. This same blood symbolism continues when Macbeth, shortly after he sees the ghost of the murdered Banquo at his feast, goes into a state of shock and has to be escorted back to his chamber by Lady Macbeth. It can be very troubling when we lose our sense of idealism. Human beings have at some point in time experienced idealism in their lives. There are many stories and poems detailing the tragic loss of idealism that people have encountered. A story that I will be focusing on is the Good Country People by Flannery O Conner,(Diyanni 172), and a poem by Emily Dickinson After Great Pain ,Formal Feeling Come (Diyanni 641). A Brief Note On The Primary Function Of Exec Lab 2 CSNB324 Muath Abdullah SN091649 Answer Q1: Execv(): it is a prototype of exec family, v is added to indicate the type of argument which in this case specified as a vector (array of character pointers). The primary function of exec () system call is to execute a file or a program. This is done by creating a new process image from a regular, executable file. This file is either an interpreter script or an executable file object. It has the form execv(char *path, char *argv[], char *envp[]). The path argument is the pathname of a file that contains the new program to be executed. The argv array is a list of parameter strings, and the envp array is a list of environment variable strings and values that should be used when the process begins executing the new programs. When a process encounters the execve() system call, the next instruction it executes will be the one at the entry point of the new executable file. Execvp() The created child process does not have to run the same program as the parent process does. The exec type system calls allow a process to run any program files, which include a binary executable or a shell script. On this page, we only discuss one such system call: execvp(). The execvp() system call requires two arguments: 1. The first argument is a character string that contains the name of a file to be executed. 2.
