Binge Eating in Bulimia Nervosa Essay
In our Western society, we have several different types of eating dysfunction, all of which are
unique and tragic in their own right. Despite their individuality, however, they all have several
overlapping symptoms that are key to their classification and severity. For Bulimia Nervosa (BN)
and Binge Eating Disorder (BED), one of the core features is bingeeating, which can be defined
objectively by number of calories eaten in a given time or subjectively by the feelings of the
binger. Binge eating has many different aspects that are of interest to scientists and clinicians alike.
One of those interests has to do with the reduction of this symptom among populations being treated
for their respective disorder. Because both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therapies used.
Interpersonal therapy (IPT) is a derivative of therapy designed for depressed individuals, which
originated from the New Haven Boston Collaborative Depression Project (Fairburn et al 1993). It
borrows from the psychodynamic school of psychology, but concentrates on interpersonal
functioning and involves three steps: 1) the first is an intensive analysis of the interpersonal context
which the disorder develops and is maintained 2) the second involves addressing the interpersonal
problems and contracting with the patients to work on these problems 3) the third deconstructs
feelings about termination of therapy, reviews progress and outlines future work (Fairburn et al.
1993).
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is currently the most commonly used type of psychotherapy
(Peterson Mitchell 1999). It is based on the cognitive view of bulimia nervosa, which weighs
attitudes towards shape and weight as most significant for maintenance of the disorder. Therapy
actually includes a combination of behavioral and cognitive directives aimed at changing patterns
of behavior, attitudes of shape and weight, and cognitive distortions such as low self esteem
(Fairburn et al. 1993).
Behavioral therapy (BT) is similar to CBT but concentrates on behavioral procedures used to
normalize eating habits. The major features are regaining control over eating, establishing a regular
pattern of eating, and cessation of

A Comparative Analysis Of Fasting, Feasting By Anita Desai
Though the novel ends in facilely compromising way of Sita s returning with her husband and
children to the dull and disgusting Bombay life, she doesn t make any attempt to liberate herself
from the shell of psychic paralysis and resigns herself passively to the inanimate and insipid life of
Bombay which in reality is a limbo of death in life.
In Fasting, Feasting, Anita Desai uses light touch, simple language, uncomplicated structure, but at
the same time addresses some very big issues and makes a point. In this novel Uma and Arun are
children of Mamapapa, the apparently indivisible common identity that parents present. These
parents, however, are not at all alike. Mama is protective, perhaps selfish, and not a little indolent.
Papa is a parsimonious control freak who locks away the telephone because someone might use it.
But they are at least together. Their relationship has survived, despite the long wait for a son, and
their disappointment at his disability. Fasting, Feasting presents apparent opposites, two
contrasting, if imbalanced scenarios, India and the USA. It offers two deformed observers, Uma
and Arun. It unpicks two contrasting cultures and finds that women are slaves in both. The
opposites are thus ultimately similar, hardly opposed.
Fasting, Feasting contrasts American and Indian culture, and male and ... Show more content on

In beautifully detailed prose Desai draws the foods and textures of an Indian small town and of an
American suburb. In both, she suggests, family life is a complex mixture of generosity and
meanness, license and restriction: The novel s subtle revelation is in the unlikely similarities. In
one dark moment, Arun recognizes in the Pattons bulimic daughter a version of his own unhappy
sister Uma, and the shock provokes a reflection on these two frustrated women: But what is plenty?
What is not? Can one tell the difference? Desai s novel is a moving, eloquent exploration of that

Medical Accounts On Women s Sexuality And Sexual Role
Women occupy a very difficult position in society whereas no matter what they do they will
always be considered or looked at as a gender who seem to have something wrong with them. It
is often an ongoing factor in society that women are regularly considered to be either mental or
suffering from a condition that has affected them in ways in which they act or behave. Sometimes
it may not be the case that something is wrong with them it s just how they are but unfortunately
parts of society fail to take up this notion. In this essay I am going to explore medical accounts on
women links to their mental instability served to regulate their sexuality and sexual role. Statistics
show that women are more likely to be treated for illness than men. Whereas 29% of women
compared to men 17% where being treated for mental health problems. (Better Or Worse: A
Longitudinal Study Of The Mental Health Of Adults In Great Britain, National Statistics, 2003)
Although it could be that women are more likely to respond and admit symptoms this is not always
the case as women are often linked to having a mental illnessregardless.
Depression and anxiety is vastly dominated with women as to men due to the life changing
factorsin the past that women have been through (Robinson, 2006). Depression is seen as a form
of mental illness that are generally suffered by women. According to (National Institute For
Clinical Excellence, 2003) 1 in every 4 woman are being omitted in hospital because of depression

The On The Elimination Of All Forms Of Discrimination...
Rationale
According to the latest concluding observations of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), article 14 of Maternal Health Act 1948 is problematic
since it states that [t]he women are required to get content from their spouses in order to obtain an
abortion (CEDAW, 2016, para. 38 (b)). However, the actual description in it is a doctor may
perform an Induced Abortion on a person who falls under any of the following items after obtaining
consent from the relevant person and the spouse (Maternal Health Act 1948, Art. 14 (1)). In other
words, it does not regulate the women to obtain their spouses contents, but it states that a doctor has

Then I will analyze the current Japanese situation by using various literatures, not only works of
feminist scholars such as Petchesky (1985) and Norgen (2001), but also works of cultural
anthropologist scholars such as Burnlund (1989). As Okin argues, even though Japan has a
different cultural background from other developed countries, especially Western countries,
cultural exception should not be adopted (1998, p.38). I agree on her argument, therefore, I do not
intend to discuss that the conclusion of CEDAW ignores the Japanese cultural character, and it is
wrong or inadequate. However, to understand the problem and its background, analysing it within
the framework of culture might be still necessary. In addition to the works from those scholars, I
am also using research data of contraceptive use in Japan as it seems to be remarkably unique
among developed countries (Sato et al, 2006).
Structure
My research begins with a summary of the international movement toward recognition of abortion
as a women s human right. Article 98 (2) of Constitution of Japan 1947 states that [t]he treaties
concluded by Japan and established laws of nations shall be faithfully observed . Hence, it can be
said that to understand how international law regulates abortion and modify current Japanese act to
align with it are necessary. Although Tozzi introduces [n]o global UN treaty contains the word
abortion, nor can a right to abortion be inferred from

Human Growth In The Bluest Eye By Toni Morrison
When a human is born we know nothing. We are naive and don t comprehend things that are
considered common sense to other people . But we have a brain that holds and retains information
so we can learn. We gain most of our information through trial and error. Toni Morrison plays on
the process of human growth in her novel The Bluest Eye. Frieda and Claudia are naive about what
it mean to be ruined . Pecola doesn t understand that she shouldn t go into strangers homes. Pecola
doesn t understand that she can not change her eye color. Morrison was trying to say the
adolescence is very naive.
Frieda and Claudia are naive about what it mean to be ruined . I don t want to be ruined .....
Besides, what about China and Poland? They re ruined too, aren t they? And they ain t fat. (101)
In this quote Frieda is explaining to her sister why she is crying. Frieda goes onto explain that she
has been molested by Mr. Henry, a tenant in their home. Claudia finally finds out that her sister is
crying because she doesn t want to be ruined like prostitutes of her town. The two girls think that ...

The Battle Of Leipzig And The Battle Of Leipzig
The Battle of Leipzig The Battle of Leipzig involved an exciting alliance that put into the
battlefield against Napoleon, close to one million soldiers. This is the most substantial number
of Soldiers ever assembled at this time in history. The battle of Leipzig is incorrectly compared
to the campaigns of Austerlitz, Borodino, and Waterloo. Similarities are the disposition of forces
and how events unfolded on one battlefield among two distinct lines of troops. Each line
advanced towards each other, with the cavalry making a critical decision to turn a flank or risk
opening a line of advance in the center. The infantry may exploit this action. The Battle of
Leipzig was nothing like former assaults that were decisive by day s end, and most resemble the
apparent disorganization of vast armies and retreat which were characteristic of much of the
fighting in Russia just a year earlier in 1812. As this essay demonstrates, the Battle of Leipzig is
best studied by looking ahead at wars waged by complex movements of mass formations. These
formations consisted of allied armies whose coordination and reliability increased or decreased in
conjunction with the relationship between the generals and kings or national leaders associated
with them. The same proportionality in relationships became evident in both world wars and
currently in Syria. Napoleon s often debated decision to embark on an unfamiliar defensive strategy
at Leipzig led to his army running out of ammunition. In fact,

Scarcity In Nineteen Eighty-Four By Big Brother
One hundred percent of US society functions on scarcity; it is the reason people face choices and
tradeoffs. In economics, scarcity refers to limitations insufficient resources, goods, or abilities to
achieve the desired ends. Figuring out ways to make the best use of scarce resources or find
alternatives is fundamental to economics. Without scarcitythere would be unlimited resources and
everyone would be able to get whatever they would like, thus eliminating competition and making
everything free. Such a utopian society can t possibly exist, as the entire economic system would
collapse with no incentive or any return for investment. Scarcity creates inequality between people
as they compete with each other for resources. In the book 1984, Big Brother... Show more content

by big brother. With the control the party has on the citizens, they either had to give in or face

working hours or smaller rations (Orwell P.71). Like a monopoly, big brother had no competition
so they can manipulate prices and set wages without any consequence. If big brother felt like the
citizens were getting too much food, they could easily just implement portion control and the
citizens could not do anything against it. Using the system they created, the poor and weak
become weaker and the powerful and wealthy become more affluent and dominant. The party
seeks power entirely for it s own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are
interested solely in power, pure power (Orwell). Unlike Greece, big brother didn t owe anyone

Modern Heroes In Modern Society
Everyone has had an experience with a hero at least once in their life. People sometimes view
real people as heroes while others have fictional heroes. Whether a person s hero is fictional or
real, everyone has one. Having a hero plays an important role in a person s life. They help
provide children with support while they are growing and developing. Heroes are role models
to children. They look up to their heroes and aspire to be like them. That is why it is so
fundamental for children to have worthy heroes. The concept of heroes has been around for
hundreds of years, dating all the way back to Ancient Greece. Over time, heroes have drastically
changed. As society has evolved, our heroes have evolved with it. Their goals and motivations
have changed to coincide with the views of modern society. Modern day heroes are better role
models for children than ancient heroes because they have less selfish motives, better qualities, and
are portrayed
The word heroism brings to mind different things to different people. This is because people tend to
have different concepts of heroism and what it means. The definition of heroism has changed a lot
since ancient times and will continue to change. Despite these changes, there are a few things about
heroes that will never change. A herocan be described as a person who is admired for courage,
achievements, or noble qualities. Both ancient and modern day heroes are idealized for possessing
these traits. Heroes, no matter from what time period, will always be powerful, strong, brave, and
valued. Some people may argue that heroes have remained fundamentally the same, but there are
some key differences that show just how much our heroes have changed since Ancient Greece.
In ancient times, heroes had a different motivation for performing good deeds than they do now.
Life was a lot harder during these times because food, water, and timber for building was scarce.
This caused many ancient heroes to have selfish motives. They only did certain tasks to gain
something from it. An example of an ancient hero with selfish motives is Odysseus. The article
Myth of the Legendary Odysseus states that on his long journey home, Odysseus only completed
quests that would benefit him and

Their Eyes Were Watching God Freedom Quotes
First Examination: Working Through Self Recognition to Liberation The only way to deal with
an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion, is a
quote written by Albert Camus, which displays the complexity of defining the term freedom.
Jean Paul Sartre s play The Flies, defines the concept of freedom as the accountability of one s
own guilt, which allows individuals to recognize their own freedom. Furthermore, an individual
that accepts accountability for one s own guilt and responsibility for the city, or complete
isolation, is living in freedom. Likewise, Zora Neal Hurston s novel Their Eyes Were Watching

Both of these demands allow their protagonist to experience liberating moments, but the exercise
and continual application of using your voice is what allows Janie to transcend self recognition
or liberating moments, and become liberated. Hurston s definition of freedom is the recognition
of self illustrated through Janie s developing voice. While exploring Janie s three marriages you
can see the stages in her life where her voice was silenced, liberated, and then empowered. By the
end of the novel Janie is encouraged to continue growing in her liberation and developing her
voice. Hurston brings Janie freedom by using true love. Janie s love for Tea Cake, her third
husband, and his love for her allowed Janie to experience an awakening of her self
consciousness. Tea Cake encouraged her to speak her mind, the Muck town allowed her to be
free; it was there that Jamie became free from the societal customs that often oppressed her.
When Tea Cake died she decided to return home; Janie s homecoming showed the reader that she
was able to return home with a self conscious awakening, pass on the wisdom she gained to

Discrimination Against Homosexuals
1.0 Topic and Chosen Report
Discrimination is defined as the unjust or prejudicial treatment towards certain groups or categories
of a specified entity. Encompassed within the scope of discrimination is the pertinent subject
matter, Discrimination Against Homosexuals in Today s Youth. As the dynamic generation of the
current world grows exponentially vocal with their standpoints, certain folds in the society today
express their negative outlook pertaining to homosexuals, leading to the ostracized generalization of
the already shunned minority. Therefore, the subject matter of discrimination against homosexuals
is rather apt as a form of oppression.

Dr. Friedman M (2014) emphasizes that although considerable gains have been made in the
acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) into the general community,
biasness is still prevalent and has very notable mental health consequences. This is due to the fact
that homosexuals generally receive greater amounts of discrimination than heterosexuals (American
Journal of Public Health 2011). A succinct paradigm to this includes a recent study which showed
that homosexuals are more likely to commit suicide as a result of discrimination, when compared to
heterosexual. This disparity is due to the discrimination and prejudice faced by homosexuals
(DeAngelis 2002, Vol 33, No.2, Pg46). Discrimination against homosexuals takes a toll on the
individuals targeted and as the evidence illustrates, discrimination in any form ushers in a strafing

Disparities of the Death Penalty
disparity of application (gender, race)
1. Disparity of application of the death penalty is a researched and heavily discussed topic.
There is no disparity applied to the death penalty due to race. Many individuals believe that
discrimination against minorities directly contributes to the amount of offenders on death row
that are African American, Hispanic, or part of a different minority group. These trends exist for
a reason, however I believe the reason is due to the fact that individuals strive to meet different
goals dependent on their racial background. Currently, approximately 41 % of inmates on death
row are black, and 44 % are white. There are more inmates who are white on death row, which
makes it hard to determine that disparity was applied based on race or gender when individuals

many women on death row because the death penalty is not often applied to their cases. However,
this is not due to their gender, it is based on the crimes that were committed and typically women
commit less violent crimes than men.

Furman v. Georgia proved that the way the death penalty was administered was unconstitutional.
William Furman was apprehended while he was found robbing a sleeping individual s home.
During the trial Furman claimed he had tripped and his weapon had accidentally discharged and

Outsider Outsiders
I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration
for freedom in the history of our nation (Martin Luther King). GETTYSBURG ADDRESS (19
NOVEMBER 1863) [1] Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this
continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are
created equal ( Abraham Lincoln). We meet at a time of tension between the United States and
Muslims around the world tension rooted in historical forces that go beyond any current policy
debate (Barack Obama). All of these are the starting point of great changes. These famous
historical figures are considered Outsiders The Term Outsider Literally means One who does not
belong to a particular group. Perception is the main key in deciding if someone belongs when
they are an outsider. If you look at it from one group they don t belong and from another they do.
One of the most famous outsiders in history is Martin Luther King. He was considered this
because he decided to take a stance against what s normal and average. He wanted to have equal
rights for both African Americans and Caucasians. By doing this he was considered an outsider
by all people. They either stood with him or against him during his outside revolution. Although
he did not like to be considered an outsider as shown by this quote Injustice anywhere is injustice
everywhere. Anyone who lives in the US can never be considered an outsider anywhere in the
country He was an outsider by trying to make no one feel like an outsider themselves. So
throughput this he didn t belong to the groups trying not to allow equal rights. But to the people,
he stood up with he was a leader and belonged to their group, therefore even if you don t feel like
you belong with the group you re in, you have a network. The next outsider is Our famous 16th
president Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was considered the rail splitting candidates throughout his
campaign and presidency. He was born and raised from working class roots. This set him apart
from his opposing candidate William H. Seward (who was the former governor of New York and a
sitting Senator. Seward came from a high class family, born and

The Afterlife Essay
What goes on four legs in the morning, on two legs at noon, and on three legs in the evening?
(Loy) The answer to the sphinx s riddle is a man. We as people crawl on four legs, walk on two
feet, and then walk with a cane. Birth. Life. Death. These are the three stages we as humans go
through. We are born into this world, live it to the fullest and then die of old age. Deathis inevitable.
We try so hard to prolong and avoid death but eventually we all die and rot away. Depending on
time, culture, and religion death has a different meaning. In some places death is seen as the end
of life and is feared, while in other places death is a new beginning and is welcomed with open
arms. Death has journeyed far to what it means today. I would... Show more content on

(Bergman) Both Egypt and Greece had elaborate burial procedures because of the importance of the
afterlife. Since the Egyptians believed strongly that the body had to be whole for them to enter the
afterlife, the Egyptians went through a process of mummification. There were three different ways
the Egyptians went through the process of mummification. All of them had similar end results but
had different procedures and reflected upon on how much money one had. The most expensive way
started with the extraction of the major organs of the body. The brain would be extracted through
the nostrils and the internal organs but the heart would be removed through an incision of the body
cavity. (The heart was later needed in the journey to the underworld)Then the body cavity would be
cleansed and filled with various aromatic substances and sewn up again. Then they would encase
the body with natrum for seventy days. After the seventy day period the body would be washed and
wrapped in linen and then glued. When the first way of mummification was too expensive, the
embalmers would use a different treatment. Instead of extracting the organs from the body cavity
they would inject oil of cedar through the anus and then pickle the body in natrum for seventy days.
After that they would drain the liquid from the body. As the liquid drained out, the stomach and
intestines would also come out through a liquefied state and then the body was returned

organizations use different statistics and one of them are descriptive statistics this is used to
describe the data of basic features in a study. This describes what is going on in the data and is

example take college students and there is two ways this can happen, take college students and

organizations are trying to reach conclusions that extend beyond the immediate data alone (M.K.

The Pros And Cons Of Gerrymandered States
Gerrymandering, the process where politicians get to choose their voters. Say there is a state with
a population of fifty, now three fifths of that state are democratic and the other two fifths are
republican, now we need to separate this state into five congressional districts. The best way to do
this would be so there are two republican representatives and three democratic. However with
gerrymandering democrats can draw districts that are unfair and they get all five representatives,
but if republicans draw the districts they can draw them were there are three republican
representatives and only two democratic representatives. This process is seen through many states.
In North Carolina forty four percent of voters voted democratic, however thanks to a creative
congressional map, seventy seven percent of representatives were republican. The twelfth district in
North Carolina is considered the most gerrymandered district in the country, and is home to two
more of the top ten gerrymandered districts. Republicans rule six of the most Gerrymandered states,
including North Carolina, Louisiana, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Alabama. The other four...

Kurt Vonnegut is known for his dark humor, wit, and imagination. He is consistently listed among
the great American authors of the later twentieth century and his novel s such as Cat s Cradle and
Slaughterhouse Five are considered modern classics. In this essay, I will focus on two of Vonnegut

everyone is required to take pills that take all the pleasure out of sex and Miss Temptation (1959)

first lessons that Billy teaches Nancy, that the pills are bad and somehow making her less of a
woman. However, what it really suggests is that a woman isn t worth listening to if her
sexuality isn t involved. Once Nancy reaches Billy s hideout, other women are more than happy
to assist him in raping her. It is later revealed that all of these other women were also once raped
by Billy but have now they understand and they re grateful. The fact that these victims would not
only be happy to assist their rapist and kidnapper but also are described as almost worshipping

saved them. Billy obviously holds the power within his gang and these women are willing to do
whatever it takes to help him rape other women. The idea that all these women needed to become
grateful was to be forcefully deflowered by Billy perpetuates the patriarchal idea that women need
to be introduced (often forcefully) to their own sexuality. Instead of just letting the women stop

This is a sign of heuristic driven bias.
Behavioral finance assumes that:
1.investors are loss averse, which means they prefer uncertain losses to certain losses.
2.investors exhibit biased expectations, due to overconfidence in their ability to forecast the future.
3.investors construct portfolios via asset segregation, meaning that they tend to focus on an asset s
individual investment features versus its impact on the overall portfolio position
By admitting his mistake but reiterating other projections, one used the single predictor defense.
Feeling that they should spread out their risk, but not knowing how leads to the 1/n diversification
heuristic. Often times, participants will only have a rough understanding of the effects of
correlation and diversification and will simply divide their assets equally over the investment
options in the plan in an attempt diversify their portfolio.
DC participants tend to hold excess stock of the company they work for due to familiarity and a

The endorsement effect refers to the misconception that by offering an investment as an alternative,
the sponsor is implicitly endorsing it as a good investment.
Note that the status quo bias refers to a lack of action on the part of the participant. Also note that

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy ( Rebt )
Abstract
A literature review on rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT). A discussion of the REBT
founder Albert Ellis and the concepts that influenced the formation of REBT. Also, an in depth
description of the concepts and theories behind REBT as well as examples of the types of
therapies that are commonly used in REBT. Next, an explanation of some of the changes that have
occurred during the history of REBT and a call for some future developments. Finally, some
criticisms of REBT are debated.
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy: Past, Present, and Future Rational emotive behavior therapy
(REBT) was first developed by Albert Ellis in 1955 (Dryden, David, Ellis, 2009). Albert Ellis was
influenced by the teachings of many different stoic philosophers, including Epictetus, which taught
that humans are not disturbed by the actual things that happen to them but by their perception of
those things (Dryden et al., 2009). Hence, Ellis termed this therapy rational psychotherapy in order
to emphasize the cognitive aspect of his therapy and to differentiate it from other psychoanalytic
therapies (Dryden et al., 2009). However, he had to change the name of his therapy to rational
emotive therapy in 1961 due to critics accusations of the therapy ignoring clients emotions, and
then again in 1993 to rational emotive behavior therapy in order to emphasize the behavior aspect
of therapy (Dryden et al., 2009). Another influence to Ellis was Alfred Alder; Alder s belief that an

What Is Segmentation and Marketing Strategy
Segmentation
Segmentation may be defined as the process of dividing a heterogeneous market into homogeneous
sub units.
To get a product or service to the right person or company, a marketer would firstly segment the
market, then target a single segment or series of segments, and finally position within the
segment(s).
Segmentation is essentially the identification of subsets of buyers within a market who share
similar needs and who demonstrate similar buyer behavior. Segmentation aims to match groups of
purchasers with the same set of needs and buyer behavior. Such a group is known as a segment .
Importance of segmentation
The essence of the marketing concept is the idea of placing customer needs at the centre of ... Show

Is it easy for you to target and reach your segment? Can they be reached with basic communication
tools such as radio and TV advertising? If you cannot target your segment effectively with
marketing communication then it is not viable. The marketer must be able to reach the segment. It
is no good identifying a potential segment if you cannot serve it because of government regulations
or location, etc.
3. Suitability of segment: Is there enough spending power within the segment for the company to
sustain itself.?
4. Meaningful The base(s) used must lead to segments, which have different preferences or needs
and show clear variations in market behaviour, and response to individually designed marketing
mixes.
5. Substantial The base(s) used should lead to segments, which are sufficiently large to be
economically and practically worthwhile, serving as discrete market targets with a distinctive
marketing mix. It must be large enough to warrant activity on the part of the marketer. In the
extreme example above, the woman with green hair could not be described as a substantial segment.
6. Actionability of segment: Does the organisation have enough resources to reach their segments?.
It is no point in targeting segments you do not have the resources to cater for. If you were a car

I will be defining an ideal make up of a retirement portfolio from the perspective that savings began
at middle age or mid career with approximately 20 years worth of savings.
There are several standard means of retirement investing. The U.S. Social Security system is not a
bad start, for most however, this is not enough to retire comfortably on. On average, an individual
could expect $800 per month from Social Security. An individual who maximized contributions to
Social Security could expect $1400 per month. Considering that an individual in his/her prime
earnings could be bringing in over $4000 per month, Social Security would not be enough.
Employer retirement plans in addition to Social Security are an even better start. Plans for smaller
companies include SIMPLE IRAs and SEP plans, a basic definition: contributions are limited, but
contributed into by both employer and employee. They offer tax deductible contributions and tax
deferred investment build up. Plans for larger companies include 401 (k) and 403 (k) plans, these
plans usually allow the employee to choose among several pre chosen mutual funds, the employer
matches contributions, and these contributions are made before taxing income, thereby reducing
tax now in the present.
And IRAs, which allow a retirement account for nonworking spouses, however, IRAs are not as
beneficial as

Visual Form Agnosia Essay
Visual form agnosia is defined as the inability to recognize objects (Goldstein, 2010). To
understand the basic concept of visual form agnosia, it is important to first understand that
perception and recognition are separate processes. Perception is defined as the ability to become
aware of something through our senses, and recognition is the ability to put an object in a group
that gives the item meaning. When a person suffers from visual form agnosia, they are generally
able to identify the item and distinguish parts of it, but are not able to perceptually accumulate
every piece of the item in order to identify the item as complete (Goldstein, 2010). The following is

The assortment of appropriate goal objects and the action to be executed depends on the perceptual
apparatus of the ventral system. A remaining question that is yet to be answered is how the two
streams interrelate with each other and how the other brain regions construct purposive behavior
(Goodale Servos, 1995). Nevertheless, at the height of visual processing, the visuomotor modules in
the parietal lobe function alone from the occipitotemporal area which produces perception based
knowledge. The perceptual system can provide proper information for our thought processes to act
upon. In comparison, the other is designed to guide actions purely in the here and now , and its
products are consequently useless for later reference (Goodale Servos, 1995). In other words, it is
through knowledge expanding through the ventral stream that we can practice insight, hindsight,
and foresight regarding the visual world. The visuomotor system can give blind sight, but in doing
this may offer no direct contribution to our mental life (Weiskrantz, 1997).
Vercera (2001) looked at two explanations between perception and action dissociation in visual
from agnosia. The first explanation is the ventral disconnection account . In this explanation,
damage down the ventral processing pathway, also known as the what pathway, is the cause of
visual form agnosia. Impairment in the tie between early level vision and shape perception is
caused by damage along the ventral

Buddhism During The Heian Period
Buddhism During the Heian period (745 1185AD) Buddhism spread throughout Japan and thrived

The Priceless Treasure By Peggy Bacon
In the illustration The Priceless Find (Antique Shop) , the artist Peggy Bacon is satirizing the
idea of an antique by both emphasizing the idea of beauty and rarity which is considered
directly with an antique as well as point out the literal definition of an antique . The artwork,
created in 1943, was made in a time where America was preoccupied World War II. This
historical detail allows the viewer furthermore to understating the reason why Bacon chose to
point out the absurdity of antiques. Before we can look at Bacon s message, I must first state
why the artwork is a humorous account of a real life event. This illustration was created two
years after Peggy Bacon divorced her husband Alexander Brooks (Meng, 18). Though it could be
plausible that the antique shop could symbolize of her broken marriage, argued with crackled

was documented in an interview to never create scenes and caricatures but simply draw from her
surroundings. Therefore making up a scene to symbolize an event in her life is not valid. As to
why the artwork is a satirical representation of the real scene, I derived this from both Bacons love
of satire created during her studies at the Arts Student League and from an excerpt taken from an
interview with Bacon. In this interview, Bacon stated the main purpose of a caricature is to
heighten the absurdity of its quality (Meng, 18). Though plausible this could

Characteristics Of A Friend Who Falls Under All Of These...
We all have friendships with everyone. To some people, they have deep friendships while others
just use and abuse their friends. We shouldn t abuse our friends, we should care for our friends.
They re all important! Friends can provide support, comfort, and help and even have fun with
each other. When I look for friends, I make sure that they possess many qualities. Some traits I
look for in a friend is that they re kind, honest, trustworthy and accepting of my unique ideas. I
have many people that fall under this category, but for this essay, I have decided to write about one
who stands out. Her name is Aria.
Aria is a friend who falls under all of these qualities. She s kind, trustworthy and provides support
and comfort. Aria and I have a deep friendship.
Aria is a kind person. She cares for each and every one of her friends. An example is when she
provides food for me and others. I remember in kindergarten when she brought me a slice of
pizza for lunch. More specifically, a tomato basil slice of pizza. Anyways, I remember feeling
strange and weird as this had never happened to me. Before this, I had never gotten food, or any
item, from anyone. It was a new experience. Another example is that Aria puts her peers before
herself. A couple weeks ago, we were playing Volleyball. Aria would set up her peers for spikes, a
move that is hard to accomplish in this sport. Usually, people only care about themselves, and only

and you re never really awake (Fight Club, date). The neo noir movies Fight Club (1999) and
Memento (2001) illustrate a reality, as seen by the protagonists. However, what exactly is reality?
This issue is employed skilfully in both Fight Club and Memento, which makes them interesting to
watch and analyse. The Usual Suspects, another neo noir film, also employs the issue reality in the

These twists lets one question everything that just happened. In Fight Club, the narrator finds out
that Tyler Durden is not another men, but him. This changes the whole context. The audience
has no idea that Tyler Durden is the narrator, as they are most likely captivated by his chaotic,
sociopathic and masculine character. Once finding out the truth, one needs to rethink the entire
film. Every scene has a different meaning once finding out that Tyler and the narrator are one. In
Memento Leonard is confronted by Teddy a cop and his friend that Sammy Jankis the men
Leonard often talks about is actually him. He tells Leonard that he has been lying to himself in
order to be happy and that he is chasing a men who he believes is John G. Teddy furthermore
suggests that actually has created a different reality in which he is chasing John G, in order to
cope with the fact that his condition killed his wife. When Leonard later gets in his car and askes
himself Do I lie to myself to be happy? (Memento, 2000), which he admits, a distortion in reality is
justified by himself. He then makes Teddy the new John G, which changes the way the audience
looks at Leonard.
To conclude, both Fight Club and Memento use an unconventional narrative structure and tell
thrilling stories. The movies enchant the viewers from the beginning with their absorbing
storylines. The distortion of reality is created by protagonist with different views on reality,

Alexander Graham Bell
He was born to Alexander Melville Bell and Eliza Grace Symonds. His mother was almost deaf,
and his father taught elocution to the deaf, which I find very ironic. This ended up influencing
Alexander s later career choice as teacher of the deaf. At age 11 he entered the Royal High School
at Edinburgh, but he did not enjoy the compulsory curriculum, and he left school at age 15 without
graduating.
Alexander invented the first ever telephone. He lived from 1847 to 1922, he was a scottish born
american scientist. He worked at a school for the deaf while trying to invent a machine that
would send sound by electricity. Bell was granted the first official patent for his telephone in
March 1876, though he would later face years of legal challenges to his claim that he was its sole
inventor, resulting in one of history s longest patent battles. When he got his machine to work, he
offered to sell his patent to Western Union for 100 thousand dollars. Western Union turned down
his offer because the telephone did not really hit it off at first. So Alexander decided to make his
own telephone company. The Bell Telephone Company, a common law joint stock company, was
organized in Boston, Massachusetts on July 9, 1877, by Alexander Graham Bell s father in law
Gardiner Greene Hubbard, who also helped organize a sister company the New England Telephone

to the Trojan Horse ruse. Odysseususes his ingenuity when a threat arises, but also by taste.
Prudence and dissimulation are two features of this inventiveness. Thus, to protect himself, he
maintains the mystery about his identity, as among the Phaeacians, but also on his return to Ithaca,
helped by Athena. Odysseus, in his insightful intelligence, borders on the prudent wisdom of one
who knows, that warns and teaches his companions. Another virtue of his personality... Show more

Ulysses is also a skilled orator, whose words are calculated and convincing: he knows how to say
compliments to Calypso that soothe her anger. But the most important role and attitude and the
most moving of Odysseus is the nostalgia for his homeland. Thus, Odysseus suffers from being
held far from Ithaca, and thus because of the anger of Poseidon, who does not forgive him for
having blinded Polyphemus, his son. The suffering of Odysseus actually makes him also a sensitive
hero in the Odyssey, far from conceited warrior of the Iliad. But to accomplish these feats,
Odysseus needs weapons, and they are different from what one would expect. First, these are the
weapons of man, and not those of the warrior that will allow Odysseus to survive from his
adventures. He is a hero of endurance. This virtue is constantly emphasized in the epithets such as
the patient . With the amount and hardness of the hardships he has endured, is the hero in the eyes
of mortals, but also for the gods. This patient, who responds to the Poseidon tenacity, enables him to

The Murder And Robbery Of A Teenage Girl By Six African...
On June 15th, 1920, three innocent men were beaten and lynched in Duluth, Minnesota. The
alleged rape and robbery of a teenage girl by six African American men, led a mob of protesters to
kidnap three of the men and punish them without trial . Durring this time, racial tensions were at
an all time high in Duluth . The Duluth lynchings were met with different reactions, and in many
ways it sparked a change in the United States. Events such as this one often go unremembered due
to their troubling nature, but these events are educational and necessary to learn while
investigating Minnesota history. The background, legal action, and after math of it all show how
Minnesota, and the country as a whole reacted to this event . While some Local Duluth newspaper
responded in favor of the mob, the majority of National newspapers condemned the mob for their
heinous crimes. Opposite reactions from multiple news reports shows how divided our country
was about civil rights at the time, and how controversial the topic was . A call to action was
needed. The Duluth lychings affected the nation by showing how controversial civil rights was at
this time, and influencing the creation of new programs and laws to protect the rights of African
Americans in our country. The 1920 s presented many hardships for the small black community the
resided in Duluth. Racial tensions in the city, as well as all over the country, were high during this
period . Duluth s population grew due to the harbor and

A Comparison of Women in Beowulf, Widsith and Icelandic...
Women in Beowulf , Widsith and Icelandic Sagas
Are women in these poems active equals of the men? Or are they passive victims of the men?
The roles of the women in Beowulf, Widsith, The Saga of The Volsungs, and the Saga of King
Hrolf Kraki are not always stereotyped ones of passive homemaker and childbearer and
peaceweaver, but sometimes ones giving freedom of choice, range of activity, and opportunity for
personal growth and development.
Let us first of all consider the roles of women in the classic epic poem Beowulf. In Beowulf the hero
makes reference to Ingeld and his wife and the coming Heathobard feud:

Chickering says that women in the poem had all the dignity and standing they commanded in
Tacitus day, when they were greatly respected and sought for their sound advice (264). Queen
Welhtheow was giving such advice to King Hrothgar concerning his sons succession to the throne:
Accept this cup, my noble lord,
gold giving king; be filled in your joys,
treasure friend to all, and give to the Geats
your kind words, as is proper for men;
in your generous mind, be gracious to the Weders,
remembering the gifts you have from all tribes.
I have been told you would have this warrior
for your son. Heorot is cleansed,
bright hall of rings; use while you may
your gifts from so many, and leave to your kinsmen
the nation and folk when you must go forth
to await your judgment. Full well I know
of my gracious Hrothulf that he would rule
the young men in honor, would keep all well,
if you should give up this world before him.

Bursitis Research Paper
The disorder/disease I decided to write about is called Bursitis. By definition, Bursitis are caused
when bursae, a fluid filled sac at the joints, gets inflamed. A person with Bursitis will have trouble
with movement or pressure because the fluid filled sacs help pressure and lubricate points between
our tendons, bones, and muscles located near our joints; allowing movement in joints without much
friction. When a person has Bursitis, their fluid filled sac gets inflamed so movement and pressure
will cause pain.
In our human body, the shoulder, elbow, ankle, knee, buttocks, hips, and thigh are the most
common parts of our body that are likely to experience Bursitis. Why? Because those are a few
places where joints can be found. Bursitis is

Best Year In History
The Best Year in History? In Why 2017 Was the Best Year in Human History, Nicholas Kristof
explains why 2017 was on of the best years in history. More specifically, Kristof argues that each
year is getting better and less people are dying. He writes, A smaller share of the world s people
were hungry, impoverished or illiterate than at any time before. Additionally, Kristof adds, ...the
lives of more than 100 million children have been saved by vaccinations, diarrhea treatment,
breast feeding promotion and other simple steps. Although there are these positives there are also
negatives that we have faced in 2017. For example, Kristof says, So, sure, the world is a dangerous
mess; I worry in particular about the risk of a war with North

Nitric Oxide On Oxygen Levels
Nitric Oxide on Hypoxia Levels in Metabolism and Vasoactivity Regulation This review paper is
based on research and learned techniques through this semester (Fall 2015), conducted under Dr.
Kenneth Kambis in the Adair Hall Facility. Although final approval was authorized in December,
there were previous volunteers that were informed under another approval given. In the research
project titled: Individual Variability Upon Acute Exposure to a Normobaric Hypoxic Environment
Simulating a Physiologic Altitude Equivalent to 3,500 Meters it covered and explores hypoxia
levels in various ethnic backgrounds at rigorous activity. The concept of metabolism and
vasoactivity in certain species systems is highly regulated under laboratory conditions with proper
materials, methods, and equipment. Measuring ranging levels of oxygenwhether in humans, sheep,
rats or mice is essential to understand chemical regulation in the organism s system. This may be
done in vivo or in vitro. In the laboratory, a normobaric hypoxia chamber is utilized to decrease the
oxygen content of the chamber atmosphere to a percentage that closely reflects the partial pressure
of oxygen in a given hypobaric environment without reducing the atmospheric pressure (Kambis,
2015). Thus the regulation of oxygen in partial pressures is similar to those found in hypobaric
atmospheres of up to extreme altitude. Innovation In human research the demographics to consider
in a study are age, gender, height, weight, and

Summary Of I Saw A Man Pursuing The Horizon
Have you ever read something and wondered why someone wrote it? Many authors write about
things that are personal to them, yet they seem to relate in some way to everyone who reads it.
Authors are able to relate to their readers through the use of things like metaphors. This allows the
reader to interpret the story to fit their own life and experiences. In the poem, I Saw a Man
Pursuing the Horizon, the author, Stephen Crane, utilizes the use of a metaphor in order to relate
to every reader and to teach a lesson about having confidence in one s beliefs. In the poem, Crane
tells the story of a man, in which he is running after the horizon. This is a task in which the
author views as impossible, so he questions the man about his actions. The man blows him off
and continues on with what he was doing. The man does not seem to care what the author thinks
and continues to have a strong belief in the idea that he will reach the goal he is chasing after.
The man in the story is determined to reach his goal, and it is obvious that he will not let anyone
else stop him from reaching it. Complete determination is something that is hard to find in
someone. There is something inside everyone that tells them when everyone is telling to stop they
usually will, and it is because they lose hope in themselves. This poem portrays a strong minded
man who is unlike anyone else. When told that his goal was impossible to achieve, he does not
listen, but stays true to what he believes. The

Compare And Contrast Boy Meet World And Boy Meets World
In Boy Meets World, Cory Matthews says, Someday, Topanga s going to be a mother, and I m
going to be the father. Or, the uncle. Or, the way I m going, the guy down the street with the
binoculars. Llittle did he know that 14 years later he would be teaching his and Topanga s daughter
and her friends. The TV shows Boy Meets World( BMW ) and Girl Meets World
( GMW ) may seem alike because they have a group of friends going through life together, being
taught life lessons from their teachers, and no matter what happened to the group they always
ended back to each other, but they are actually different because of the gender struggles that they go
through, the different relationship issues, and the time period they grew up in.
One of the biggest differences between both of these shows is one has a male lead and the other
has a female lead. In BMW Cory Matthews is the lead, but in GMW his daughter Riley
Matthews takes the lead. They faced very different problems since they are different genders.
For instance, in GMW Riley has to face the expectation of just being this pretty face. In one of
the the episodes, she was paired with her friend Farkle Minkus to do a science experiment where
one partner needs to do the science part of the whole experiment and the other partner just has to
drop a ball into a fluid that was provide at a certain time after school. When she went to drop the
ball with her best friend Maya, she found out that in her whole class, all the girls were the

Problems Faced By Japanese Foreign Investments Relations...
This business study will define the problems in the United States due to Japanese investments. In
the current global economy, the foreign investments relations between the U.S. and Japan have
been one sided due to the inter Asian business models of the Japanese markets. Japan has
traditionally been cooperative with the United Statesin allowing its products to be manufactured and
sold in the United States, which has provided some manufacturing jobs in the U.S. This causes
problems for the U.S. because they are disadvantaged by one sided trade agreements that decrease
job opportunities for American workers, since the Japanese are increasingly moving their
manufacturing plants into Asia. More so, the Japanese government has manipulated its... Show more

This complex issue defines a major problem for job opportunities for the American economy due to
Japan s shift in foreign investment in the Unite States:
The Japanese will place more of their emphasis on investment in Asia, leaving less capital to
finance United States budget deficits or to buy up American companies or open new factories.
Japanese electronic goods and automobiles will not disappear from American shelves or
showrooms, but increasingly they will come from factories in Asia, rather than in Japan or the
United States (Sterngold, 2016, para.8).
In this manner, Japanese foreign investments will begin to shift away from the American
manufacturing sector to Asian labor markets. This is an important problem with Japanese foreign
investments that continue to seek out lower cost labor markets in order to avoid the higher costs in
America: That will mean less job creation in Ohio or Tennessee, as the Japanese start up fewer new
ventures in the United States (para.8). This is an important factor in the evolving foreign
investment strategies of Japan, which now threaten American job markets in the 2010s.
Historically japan had found the American consumer market to be an invaluable part of consumer
orientated foreign investments, which relied heavily on

  • 3. Binge Eating in Bulimia Nervosa Essay In our Western society, we have several different types of eating dysfunction, all of which are unique and tragic in their own right. Despite their individuality, however, they all have several overlapping symptoms that are key to their classification and severity. For Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and Binge Eating Disorder (BED), one of the core features is bingeeating, which can be defined objectively by number of calories eaten in a given time or subjectively by the feelings of the binger. Binge eating has many different aspects that are of interest to scientists and clinicians alike. One of those interests has to do with the reduction of this symptom among populations being treated for their respective disorder. Because both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therapies used. Interpersonal therapy (IPT) is a derivative of therapy designed for depressed individuals, which originated from the New Haven Boston Collaborative Depression Project (Fairburn et al 1993). It borrows from the psychodynamic school of psychology, but concentrates on interpersonal functioning and involves three steps: 1) the first is an intensive analysis of the interpersonal context which the disorder develops and is maintained 2) the second involves addressing the interpersonal problems and contracting with the patients to work on these problems 3) the third deconstructs feelings about termination of therapy, reviews progress and outlines future work (Fairburn et al. 1993). Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is currently the most commonly used type of psychotherapy (Peterson Mitchell 1999). It is based on the cognitive view of bulimia nervosa, which weighs attitudes towards shape and weight as most significant for maintenance of the disorder. Therapy actually includes a combination of behavioral and cognitive directives aimed at changing patterns of behavior, attitudes of shape and weight, and cognitive distortions such as low self esteem (Fairburn et al. 1993). Behavioral therapy (BT) is similar to CBT but concentrates on behavioral procedures used to normalize eating habits. The major features are regaining control over eating, establishing a regular pattern of eating, and cessation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Comparative Analysis Of Fasting, Feasting By Anita Desai Though the novel ends in facilely compromising way of Sita s returning with her husband and children to the dull and disgusting Bombay life, she doesn t make any attempt to liberate herself from the shell of psychic paralysis and resigns herself passively to the inanimate and insipid life of Bombay which in reality is a limbo of death in life. In Fasting, Feasting, Anita Desai uses light touch, simple language, uncomplicated structure, but at the same time addresses some very big issues and makes a point. In this novel Uma and Arun are children of Mamapapa, the apparently indivisible common identity that parents present. These parents, however, are not at all alike. Mama is protective, perhaps selfish, and not a little indolent. Papa is a parsimonious control freak who locks away the telephone because someone might use it. But they are at least together. Their relationship has survived, despite the long wait for a son, and their disappointment at his disability. Fasting, Feasting presents apparent opposites, two contrasting, if imbalanced scenarios, India and the USA. It offers two deformed observers, Uma and Arun. It unpicks two contrasting cultures and finds that women are slaves in both. The opposites are thus ultimately similar, hardly opposed. Fasting, Feasting contrasts American and Indian culture, and male and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Medical Accounts On Women s Sexuality And Sexual Role Women occupy a very difficult position in society whereas no matter what they do they will always be considered or looked at as a gender who seem to have something wrong with them. It is often an ongoing factor in society that women are regularly considered to be either mental or suffering from a condition that has affected them in ways in which they act or behave. Sometimes it may not be the case that something is wrong with them it s just how they are but unfortunately parts of society fail to take up this notion. In this essay I am going to explore medical accounts on women links to their mental instability served to regulate their sexuality and sexual role. Statistics show that women are more likely to be treated for illness than men. Whereas 29% of women compared to men 17% where being treated for mental health problems. (Better Or Worse: A Longitudinal Study Of The Mental Health Of Adults In Great Britain, National Statistics, 2003) Although it could be that women are more likely to respond and admit symptoms this is not always the case as women are often linked to having a mental illnessregardless. Depression and anxiety is vastly dominated with women as to men due to the life changing factorsin the past that women have been through (Robinson, 2006). Depression is seen as a form of mental illness that are generally suffered by women. Then I will analyze the current Japanese situation by using various literatures, not only works of feminist scholars such as Petchesky (1985) and Norgen (2001), but also works of cultural anthropologist scholars such as Burnlund (1989). As Okin argues, even though Japan has a different cultural background from other developed countries, especially Western countries, cultural exception should not be adopted (1998, p.38). I agree on her argument, therefore, I do not intend to discuss that the conclusion of CEDAW ignores the Japanese cultural character, and it is wrong or inadequate. However, to understand the problem and its background, analysing it within the framework of culture might be still necessary. In addition to the works from those scholars, I am also using research data of contraceptive use in Japan as it seems to be remarkably unique among developed countries (Sato et al, 2006). Structure My research begins with a summary of the international movement toward recognition of abortion as a women s human right. Article 98 (2) of Constitution of Japan 1947 states that [t]he treaties concluded by Japan and established laws of nations shall be faithfully observed . Hence, it can be said that to understand how international law regulates abortion and modify current Japanese act to align with it are necessary. • 11. The Battle Of Leipzig And The Battle Of Leipzig The Battle of Leipzig The Battle of Leipzig involved an exciting alliance that put into the battlefield against Napoleon, close to one million soldiers. This is the most substantial number of Soldiers ever assembled at this time in history. The battle of Leipzig is incorrectly compared to the campaigns of Austerlitz, Borodino, and Waterloo. Similarities are the disposition of forces and how events unfolded on one battlefield among two distinct lines of troops. Each line advanced towards each other, with the cavalry making a critical decision to turn a flank or risk opening a line of advance in the center. The infantry may exploit this action. The Battle of Leipzig was nothing like former assaults that were decisive by day s end, and most resemble the apparent disorganization of vast armies and retreat which were characteristic of much of the fighting in Russia just a year earlier in 1812. As this essay demonstrates, the Battle of Leipzig is best studied by looking ahead at wars waged by complex movements of mass formations. These formations consisted of allied armies whose coordination and reliability increased or decreased in conjunction with the relationship between the generals and kings or national leaders associated with them. The same proportionality in relationships became evident in both world wars and currently in Syria. Napoleon s often debated decision to embark on an unfamiliar defensive strategy at Leipzig led to his army running out of ammunition. In fact, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Scarcity In Nineteen Eighty-Four By Big Brother One hundred percent of US society functions on scarcity; it is the reason people face choices and tradeoffs. In economics, scarcity refers to limitations insufficient resources, goods, or abilities to achieve the desired ends. Figuring out ways to make the best use of scarce resources or find alternatives is fundamental to economics. Without scarcitythere would be unlimited resources and everyone would be able to get whatever they would like, thus eliminating competition and making everything free. Such a utopian society can t possibly exist, as the entire economic system would collapse with no incentive or any return for investment. Scarcity creates inequality between people as they compete with each other for resources. In the book 1984, Big Brother... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the control the party has on the citizens, they either had to give in or face torture and death. To keep them under control was not difficult... make them accept longer working hours or smaller rations (Orwell P.71). Like a monopoly, big brother had no competition so they can manipulate prices and set wages without any consequence. If big brother felt like the citizens were getting too much food, they could easily just implement portion control and the citizens could not do anything against it. Using the system they created, the poor and weak become weaker and the powerful and wealthy become more affluent and dominant. The party seeks power entirely for it s own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power (Orwell). Unlike Greece, big brother didn t owe anyone money, having no creditors or debtors. • 14. Modern Heroes In Modern Society Everyone has had an experience with a hero at least once in their life. People sometimes view real people as heroes while others have fictional heroes. Whether a person s hero is fictional or real, everyone has one. Having a hero plays an important role in a person s life. They help provide children with support while they are growing and developing. Heroes are role models to children. They look up to their heroes and aspire to be like them. That is why it is so fundamental for children to have worthy heroes. The concept of heroes has been around for hundreds of years, dating all the way back to Ancient Greece. Over time, heroes have drastically changed. As society has evolved, our heroes have evolved with it. Their goals and motivations have changed to coincide with the views of modern society. Modern day heroes are better role models for children than ancient heroes because they have less selfish motives, better qualities, and are portrayed The word heroism brings to mind different things to different people. This is because people tend to have different concepts of heroism and what it means. The definition of heroism has changed a lot since ancient times and will continue to change. Despite these changes, there are a few things about heroes that will never change. A herocan be described as a person who is admired for courage, achievements, or noble qualities. Both ancient and modern day heroes are idealized for possessing these traits. Heroes, no matter from what time period, will always be powerful, strong, brave, and valued. Some people may argue that heroes have remained fundamentally the same, but there are some key differences that show just how much our heroes have changed since Ancient Greece. In ancient times, heroes had a different motivation for performing good deeds than they do now. Life was a lot harder during these times because food, water, and timber for building was scarce. This caused many ancient heroes to have selfish motives. They only did certain tasks to gain something from it. An example of an ancient hero with selfish motives is Odysseus. Their Eyes Were Watching God Freedom Quotes First Examination: Working Through Self Recognition to Liberation The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion, is a quote written by Albert Camus, which displays the complexity of defining the term freedom. Jean Paul Sartre s play The Flies, defines the concept of freedom as the accountability of one s own guilt, which allows individuals to recognize their own freedom. Furthermore, an individual that accepts accountability for one s own guilt and responsibility for the city, or complete isolation, is living in freedom. Homosexual Issues Analysis Report Issue Analysis Report Discrimination Against Homosexuals 1.0 Topic and Chosen Report Discrimination is defined as the unjust or prejudicial treatment towards certain groups or categories of a specified entity. Encompassed within the scope of discrimination is the pertinent subject matter, Discrimination Against Homosexuals in Today s Youth. As the dynamic generation of the current world grows exponentially vocal with their standpoints, certain folds in the society today express their negative outlook pertaining to homosexuals, leading to the ostracized generalization of the already shunned minority. Therefore, the subject matter of discrimination against homosexuals is rather apt as a form of oppression. 1.1 Critical Evaluation of Findings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. Friedman M (2014) emphasizes that although considerable gains have been made in the acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) into the general community, biasness is still prevalent and has very notable mental health consequences. This is due to the fact that homosexuals generally receive greater amounts of discrimination than heterosexuals (American Journal of Public Health 2011). A succinct paradigm to this includes a recent study which showed that homosexuals are more likely to commit suicide as a result of discrimination, when compared to heterosexual. This disparity is due to the discrimination and prejudice faced by homosexuals (DeAngelis 2002, Vol 33, No.2, Pg46). Discrimination against homosexuals takes a toll on the individuals targeted and as the evidence illustrates, discrimination in any form ushers in a strafing array of detrimental effects to the individuals ... • 18. Disparities of the Death Penalty disparity of application (gender, race) 1. Disparity of application of the death penalty is a researched and heavily discussed topic. There is no disparity applied to the death penalty due to race. Many individuals believe that discrimination against minorities directly contributes to the amount of offenders on death row that are African American, Hispanic, or part of a different minority group. These trends exist for a reason, however I believe the reason is due to the fact that individuals strive to meet different goals dependent on their racial background. Currently, approximately 41 % of inmates on death row are black, and 44 % are white. There are more inmates who are white on death row, which makes it hard to determine that disparity was applied based on race or gender when individuals are faced with a death penalty sentence. There are far less women on death row. There are not many women on death row because the death penalty is not often applied to their cases. However, this is not due to their gender, it is based on the crimes that were committed and typically women commit less violent crimes than men. 2. Furman v. Georgia Furman v. Georgia proved that the way the death penalty was administered was unconstitutional. William Furman was apprehended while he was found robbing a sleeping individual s home. GETTYSBURG ADDRESS (19 NOVEMBER 1863) [1] Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal ( Abraham Lincoln). We meet at a time of tension between the United States and Muslims around the world tension rooted in historical forces that go beyond any current policy debate (Barack Obama). All of these are the starting point of great changes. These famous historical figures are considered Outsiders The Term Outsider Literally means One who does not belong to a particular group. Perception is the main key in deciding if someone belongs when they are an outsider. If you look at it from one group they don t belong and from another they do. One of the most famous outsiders in history is Martin Luther King. He was considered this because he decided to take a stance against what s normal and average. He wanted to have equal rights for both African Americans and Caucasians. By doing this he was considered an outsider by all people. They either stood with him or against him during his outside revolution. Although he did not like to be considered an outsider as shown by this quote Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. Anyone who lives in the US can never be considered an outsider anywhere in the country He was an outsider by trying to make no one feel like an outsider themselves. So throughput this he didn t belong to the groups trying not to allow equal rights. But to the people, he stood up with he was a leader and belonged to their group, therefore even if you don t feel like you belong with the group you re in, you have a network. The next outsider is Our famous 16th president Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was considered the rail splitting candidates throughout his campaign and presidency. He was born and raised from working class roots. This set him apart from his opposing candidate William H. Seward (who was the former governor of New York and a sitting Senator. Since the Egyptians believed strongly that the body had to be whole for them to enter the afterlife, the Egyptians went through a process of mummification. The most expensive way started with the extraction of the major organs of the body. The brain would be extracted through the nostrils and the internal organs but the heart would be removed through an incision of the body cavity. (The heart was later needed in the journey to the underworld)Then the body cavity would be cleansed and filled with various aromatic substances and sewn up again. Then they would encase the body with natrum for seventy days. After the seventy day period the body would be washed and wrapped in linen and then glued. Instead of extracting the organs from the body cavity they would inject oil of cedar through the anus and then pickle the body in natrum for seventy days. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy: Past, Present, and Future Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) was first developed by Albert Ellis in 1955 (Dryden, David, Ellis, 2009). Albert Ellis was influenced by the teachings of many different stoic philosophers, including Epictetus, which taught that humans are not disturbed by the actual things that happen to them but by their perception of those things (Dryden et al., 2009). Hence, Ellis termed this therapy rational psychotherapy in order to emphasize the cognitive aspect of his therapy and to differentiate it from other psychoanalytic therapies (Dryden et al., 2009). However, he had to change the name of his therapy to rational emotive therapy in 1961 due to critics accusations of the therapy ignoring clients emotions, and then again in 1993 to rational emotive behavior therapy in order to emphasize the behavior aspect of therapy (Dryden et al., 2009). When a person suffers from visual form agnosia, they are generally able to identify the item and distinguish parts of it, but are not able to perceptually accumulate every piece of the item in order to identify the item as complete (Goldstein, 2010). A remaining question that is yet to be answered is how the two streams interrelate with each other and how the other brain regions construct purposive behavior (Goodale Servos, 1995). Nevertheless, at the height of visual processing, the visuomotor modules in the parietal lobe function alone from the occipitotemporal area which produces perception based knowledge. The perceptual system can provide proper information for our thought processes to act upon. In comparison, the other is designed to guide actions purely in the here and now , and its products are consequently useless for later reference (Goodale Servos, 1995). The visuomotor system can give blind sight, but in doing this may offer no direct contribution to our mental life (Weiskrantz, 1997). I would focus on the I.D. policy and not care about the money because I know I would be saving teenage lives. That would be the ethical thing to do. I think that the publishing of drugs should be banned from sites that teens might use. They should publish the Festival drugs but on adult websites. Does my decision harm anyone? I don t think my choice harms anyone because people can still sell but they should be aware of the I.D. policy. The vendors lose profit but they will be helping teenage lives. • 36. Alexander Graham Bell And Eliza Grace Symonds Jose Munoz Ms.Aguilar Us History 10/18/16 Alexander Graham Bell He was born to Alexander Melville Bell and Eliza Grace Symonds. His mother was almost deaf, and his father taught elocution to the deaf, which I find very ironic. This ended up influencing Alexander s later career choice as teacher of the deaf. At age 11 he entered the Royal High School at Edinburgh, but he did not enjoy the compulsory curriculum, and he left school at age 15 without graduating. Alexander invented the first ever telephone. He lived from 1847 to 1922, he was a scottish born american scientist. He worked at a school for the deaf while trying to invent a machine that would send sound by electricity. Bell was granted the first official patent for his telephone in March 1876, though he would later face years of legal challenges to his claim that he was its sole inventor, resulting in one of history s longest patent battles. When he got his machine to work, he offered to sell his patent to Western Union for 100 thousand dollars. Western Union turned down his offer because the telephone did not really hit it off at first. So Alexander decided to make his own telephone company. The Bell Telephone Company, a common law joint stock company, was organized in Boston, Massachusetts on July 9, 1877, by Alexander Graham Bell s father in law Gardiner Greene Hubbard, who also helped organize a sister company the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. Once the telephone hit off and everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Ingenuity In The Odyssey The hero s character is itself quite unique, multifaceted such as his ingenuity. We can often call Ulysses by several nicknames, but those who return the more often showcase his ingenuity: the Inventive , industrious, ingenious . Moreover, it is to him that the Greeks owe their victory, thanks to the Trojan Horse ruse. Odysseususes his ingenuity when a threat arises, but also by taste. Prudence and dissimulation are two features of this inventiveness. Thus, to protect himself, he maintains the mystery about his identity, as among the Phaeacians, but also on his return to Ithaca, helped by Athena. Odysseus, in his insightful intelligence, borders on the prudent wisdom of one who knows, that warns and teaches his companions. Another virtue of his personality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ulysses is also a skilled orator, whose words are calculated and convincing: he knows how to say compliments to Calypso that soothe her anger. But the most important role and attitude and the most moving of Odysseus is the nostalgia for his homeland. Thus, Odysseus suffers from being held far from Ithaca, and thus because of the anger of Poseidon, who does not forgive him for having blinded Polyphemus, his son. The suffering of Odysseus actually makes him also a sensitive hero in the Odyssey, far from conceited warrior of the Iliad. But to accomplish these feats, Odysseus needs weapons, and they are different from what one would expect. First, these are the weapons of man, and not those of the warrior that will allow Odysseus to survive from his adventures. He is a hero of endurance. This virtue is constantly emphasized in the epithets such as the patient . With the amount and hardness of the hardships he has endured, is the hero in the eyes of mortals, but also for the gods. Durring this time, racial tensions were at an all time high in Duluth . The Duluth lynchings were met with different reactions, and in many ways it sparked a change in the United States. Events such as this one often go unremembered due to their troubling nature, but these events are educational and necessary to learn while investigating Minnesota history. The background, legal action, and after math of it all show how Minnesota, and the country as a whole reacted to this event . While some Local Duluth newspaper responded in favor of the mob, the majority of National newspapers condemned the mob for their heinous crimes. Opposite reactions from multiple news reports shows how divided our country was about civil rights at the time, and how controversial the topic was . A call to action was needed. • 42. Bursitis Research Paper The disorder/disease I decided to write about is called Bursitis. By definition, Bursitis are caused when bursae, a fluid filled sac at the joints, gets inflamed. A person with Bursitis will have trouble with movement or pressure because the fluid filled sacs help pressure and lubricate points between our tendons, bones, and muscles located near our joints; allowing movement in joints without much friction. When a person has Bursitis, their fluid filled sac gets inflamed so movement and pressure will cause pain. In our human body, the shoulder, elbow, ankle, knee, buttocks, hips, and thigh are the most common parts of our body that are likely to experience Bursitis. Why? Because those are a few places where joints can be found. Bursitis is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Nitric Oxide On Oxygen Levels Nitric Oxide on Hypoxia Levels in Metabolism and Vasoactivity Regulation This review paper is based on research and learned techniques through this semester (Fall 2015), conducted under Dr. Kenneth Kambis in the Adair Hall Facility. Although final approval was authorized in December, there were previous volunteers that were informed under another approval given. In the research project titled: Individual Variability Upon Acute Exposure to a Normobaric Hypoxic Environment Simulating a Physiologic Altitude Equivalent to 3,500 Meters it covered and explores hypoxia levels in various ethnic backgrounds at rigorous activity. The concept of metabolism and vasoactivity in certain species systems is highly regulated under laboratory conditions with proper materials, methods, and equipment. Measuring ranging levels of oxygenwhether in humans, sheep, rats or mice is essential to understand chemical regulation in the organism s system. This may be done in vivo or in vitro. In the laboratory, a normobaric hypoxia chamber is utilized to decrease the oxygen content of the chamber atmosphere to a percentage that closely reflects the partial pressure of oxygen in a given hypobaric environment without reducing the atmospheric pressure (Kambis, 2015). Thus the regulation of oxygen in partial pressures is similar to those found in hypobaric atmospheres of up to extreme altitude. • 46. Summary Of I Saw A Man Pursuing The Horizon Have you ever read something and wondered why someone wrote it? Many authors write about things that are personal to them, yet they seem to relate in some way to everyone who reads it. Authors are able to relate to their readers through the use of things like metaphors. This allows the reader to interpret the story to fit their own life and experiences. In the poem, I Saw a Man Pursuing the Horizon, the author, Stephen Crane, utilizes the use of a metaphor in order to relate to every reader and to teach a lesson about having confidence in one s beliefs. In the poem, Crane tells the story of a man, in which he is running after the horizon. This is a task in which the author views as impossible, so he questions the man about his actions. The man blows him off and continues on with what he was doing. The man does not seem to care what the author thinks and continues to have a strong belief in the idea that he will reach the goal he is chasing after. The man in the story is determined to reach his goal, and it is obvious that he will not let anyone else stop him from reaching it. Complete determination is something that is hard to find in someone. There is something inside everyone that tells them when everyone is telling to stop they usually will, and it is because they lose hope in themselves. This poem portrays a strong minded man who is unlike anyone else. When told that his goal was impossible to achieve, he does not listen, but stays true to what he believes. The ... Or, the way I m going, the guy down the street with the binoculars. Llittle did he know that 14 years later he would be teaching his and Topanga s daughter and her friends. The TV shows Boy Meets World( BMW ) and Girl Meets World ( GMW ) may seem alike because they have a group of friends going through life together, being taught life lessons from their teachers, and no matter what happened to the group they always ended back to each other, but they are actually different because of the gender struggles that they go through, the different relationship issues, and the time period they grew up in. One of the biggest differences between both of these shows is one has a male lead and the other has a female lead. In BMW Cory Matthews is the lead, but in GMW his daughter Riley Matthews takes the lead. They faced very different problems since they are different genders. For instance, in GMW Riley has to face the expectation of just being this pretty face. In the current global economy, the foreign investments relations between the U.S. and Japan have been one sided due to the inter Asian business models of the Japanese markets. Japan has traditionally been cooperative with the United Statesin allowing its products to be manufactured and sold in the United States, which has provided some manufacturing jobs in the U.S. This causes problems for the U.S. because they are disadvantaged by one sided trade agreements that decrease job opportunities for American workers, since the Japanese are increasingly moving their manufacturing plants into Asia. More so, the Japanese government has manipulated its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This complex issue defines a major problem for job opportunities for the American economy due to Japan s shift in foreign investment in the Unite States: The Japanese will place more of their emphasis on investment in Asia, leaving less capital to finance United States budget deficits or to buy up American companies or open new factories. Japanese electronic goods and automobiles will not disappear from American shelves or showrooms, but increasingly they will come from factories in Asia, rather than in Japan or the United States (Sterngold, 2016, para.8). In this manner, Japanese foreign investments will begin to shift away from the American manufacturing sector to Asian labor markets. This is an important problem with Japanese foreign investments that continue to seek out lower cost labor markets in order to avoid the higher costs in America: That will mean less job creation in Ohio or Tennessee, as the Japanese start up fewer new ventures in the United States (para.8). This is an important factor in the evolving foreign investment strategies of Japan, which now threaten American job markets in the 2010s. Historically japan had found the American consumer market to be an invaluable part of consumer orientated foreign investments, which relied heavily on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
