Gabriel Garcia Marquez Essays
Crafting an essay on the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a challenging yet intellectually
rewarding endeavor. The complexity lies not only in the vastness of Marquez's literary repertoire
but also in the intricate layers of magical realism that permeate his narratives. To adequately
delve into the essence of his writings requires a profound understanding of Latin American
history, culture, and the socio-political landscape that influenced Marquez's storytelling.
Moreover, grappling with Marquez's distinctive narrative style, characterized by elaborate and
labyrinthine sentences, demands a keen eye for detail and an ability to navigate through the
intertwining threads of reality and fantasy. Analyzing the symbolism and metaphors inherent in
his works adds another layer of intricacy, as Marquez masterfully weaves allegorical elements
into the fabric of his storytelling.
The challenge extends beyond the textual analysis to the exploration of the author's personal life,
influences, and the historical context in which he lived. Researching and understanding the
cultural milieu of Colombia, where Marquez spent a significant part of his life, becomes
imperative to provide a comprehensive perspective on his writings.
Furthermore, the essay must capture the essence of Marquez's contributions to literature, his
impact on the magical realism genre, and his influence on subsequent generations of writers. This
involves a meticulous examination of literary criticism, scholarly articles, and interviews with the
author himself.
In conclusion, writing an essay on Gabriel Garcia Marquez requires not just literary prowess but
also a deep dive into cultural, historical, and philosophical realms. It demands the ability to
unravel the intricacies of his narratives, decode the symbolism, and contextualize his work within
the broader spectrum of Latin American literature. It is, indeed, a task that necessitates
dedication, extensive research, and a genuine passion for the magical world that Marquez so
brilliantly crafted in his literary creations.

The Importance Of College Connections In College
It s a known fact that college is vastly different from high school, and in a general
sense, that s very true. College is full of new challenges and opportunities to prepare
for the future. Along with harder classes and independance, college is also about
socializing with fellow students in an environment in which everyone is always on
the move. Having connections can lead to future success within an industry as well
as people to communicate with and work with while in college. In high school, it is
easy to make connections with people because of the way classschedules work: four
classes a day, five days a week. Compared to high school schedules, College
schedules are free form, with class number and class type varying by the day, and,
as such, it s more difficult to connect with other students. The easiest way to create
meaningful connections with other students is by joining a school club. Co
curricular organizations are usually more constructive than extracurricular, as co
curricular relate to a selected major while extracurricular relate to hobbies. Ideally,
it s best to try and find a balance between co curricular and extracurricular clubs. For
example, three clubs I, someone dual majoring in computer science and music
composition, hope to become involved with during my college career are the game
development club, the art club, and Code.life. The game development club is a co
curricular club that doubles as an extracurricular club in my case. By joining this
club, I
Analysis Of Crime And Punishment By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
In the novel Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoyevsky details the story of
Raskolnikov who struggles with the consequences of an significant personal
transgression. This leads him into a life full of struggle and emotion. Because of
the crimes in his past, Raskolnikov finds himself alienated from society and from
his family but finds comfort in a place where he feels justified and has nothing to
lose. From the beginning of the novel, Raskolnikov seems to be estranged from
society as well as from the rest of humanity. His struggles conform with his
inability to fit in and see others as his equal, which affects his ability to interact
with others. He would often avoid his problems with many people in the novel.
For instance, he was in debt to his landlady, and was afraid of seeing her; so any
time Raskolnikov would have to meet up with her, he would find another way. On
his way out to town one day he was able to successfully avoid her by taking another
route. This behavior developed as a result of his isolation from people and society
which lead to Raskolnikov being drawn into a more lonely lifestyle. The beginning
of the novel describes Raskolnikov by stating He had become so completely
absorbed in himself, and isolated from his fellows that he dreaded meeting, not only
his landlady, but any one at all (Dostoevsky 1). This behavior only got worse
throughout the novel after he killed Alyona, an old pawnbroker, and her sister,
Lizaveta, because of the guilt he felt in
The Spiritual Practice Of The Labyrinth
Since I was a child I was told to read the Bible, pray, and repeat. Eventually, these
few spiritual practices became empty rituals to me for a time. In the duration of this
class thus far, I ve had the chance to relook at my spiritual practices, learn why I
should practice them, and then put them into practice with a right heart. I ve also had
the chance to partake in many other types of spiritual practices. One in particular
interested me, so I decided to try it that is, the spiritual practiceof the Labyrinth.
There were many spiritual practices that I had never done before on the list, but the
Labyrinth was a formative practice that I hadn t even heard of. I had no experience
with the discipline before the class. However, I decided to try it because I might not
have had the chance to practice it again, unless I first tried it. Also, the fact of a
spiritual practice having a labyrinth involved greatly interested me, and I wanted to
study it. When I found out what the Labyrinth was I wanted to try it even more. A
prayer labyrinth is a labyrinth used to facilitate prayer, meditation, spiritual
transformation, and/or global unity. Walking a prayer labyrinth is seen in 3 stages:
Purgation, Illumination, and Union. Purgation occurs as you first walk into the
labyrinth until you reach the center, the goal is to clear the mind from distractions,
and open the heart. Illumination happens at the center, the goal to pray and meditate
and listen to what God has for you. Union,

achieve these goals they favor to expand their work in a foreign market. Other
reasons to internationalize their business may be to become stronger than the other

Uppsala Model considers two types of knowledge objective and experience based

Can Uppsala model be applied to services? This model was mainly reliable for

Comparison of the Story of an Hour and a Sorrowful
Woman...
The Portrayal of the Plight of Women by the Author, In Their Particular Period of
Time Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour and Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman
are similar pieces of literary work. Both stories offer a revealing glimpse of
extremely unhappy marriages due to being forced into stereotypical roles. Both
stories portray women, who are trapped in their marriages and trapped in their
socially expected matriarchal characters. They are identified by their role as a wife
and mother. In A Sorrowful Woman
the wife is depressed with her life, so much so,
The sight of them made her so sad and sick she did not want to see them ever again

In The Story of an Hour Chopin portrays marriage and the role and feelings of
women in the 19th century as subordinate contributors to the husbands. The third
word of the story is Mrs. , identifying the protagonist as a wife, defining her role and
her life. She is also identified as weak and fragile. When her husband is killed in a
train accident Mrs. Mallard cries, but for different reasons than would be
expected. She is sad for her husband s death, but, moreover, she is overcome with
joy. For now she is free. No one recognizes her true emotions because women fall
apart when their spouse dies; it s required. Marriage is portrayed as a life sentence.
She said it over and over again under her breath: free, free, free! Her pulse beat fast,
and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body (1). Mrs.
Mallard was relieved that her husband died for she thought her sentence was over.
When she realized that he was still alive, and therefore she was still committed to the
marriage, she died from the shock and horror of being trapped.
In both stories, women were expected to keep house, cook, bear and rear children
but little more. Moreover, should a woman find work, employers generally
discriminated against women by hiring them for menial jobs. Repression in both
women may very well have been the reason for their ailments and certainly their
deaths Though a weak heart and suicide might be a stretch, as to be caused by

the company was under Irish governmental ownership under the name of Irish

company started to grow. When Greencore was privatized back in 1991, they

Greencore started operating in the U.S. market. This in the beginning wasn t without

Dehumanization Of Genocide
INTRODUCTION
Throughout history there have been atrocious crimes committed against humanity.
Those responsible for these mass murders were usually governments, political
leaders, or rebels. The justification for these inhumane crimes varied from
discrimination of race, religion gender or ethnicity. These mass murders are also
known as genocide. To make matters worse, for a period of time a majority of those
responsible for these unspeakable crimes were not prosecuted. The reason being is
that there was no way to bring the perpetrators to justice especially with the volume
of victims. This left a feeling of vain and injustice for many victims. As time
progressed systems, courts, and laws were implemented to handle this serious crime.

It is critical that there should be a swifter and quick response implemented. The
reason being is that with this specific crime, for each day no action is taken the
more lives are in despair, misplaced and killed. The issue here and what clearly
happened in Rwanda was negligence on the United Nations be half. If nations are
aware of the situation occurring there should be a more thorough investigation, for
clarification to take action. Rather than bickering over political interests and
financial costs nothing will be accomplished if no action is taken. The response to
certain types killings are not being acknowledged as genocide, and lack of
enforcement is a major flaw in international law. Not addressing the outcome can be
catastrophic. Again, this is a crucial step to preventing certain crimes like this from
occurring
Flippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments
Filippo Brunelleschi is considered a founding father of the renaissance, known for his
innovative contributions in art, design, and architecture. He developed brilliant
techniques for linear perspective and his artwork was acclaimed everywhere for its
precision and beauty. In 1418, the Cathedral of Florencewas about to undergo a
seemingly impossible task. The unfinished Cathedral was in need of a grand dome
to complete the enormous hole in its roof. At the time, no one had ever undergone
building a dome as large as 150 feet across, especially at 180 feet above ground!
Even with all of the difficulties present, the city of Florence offered a large
commission to the person with the best idea for completing the task. Even though

Could a dome weighing tens of thousands of tons stay up without them? Was a
dome structure even possible given the octagonal floor plan, without collapsing in
on itself? Not to mention the fact that no lifting mechanisms were available at the
time to maneuver the heavy materials so far off the ground. Brunelleschi utilized
innovative lifting inventions to deal with this problem. His complex system of
gears and pulleys were so incredibly groundbreaking, they wouldn t be rivaled until
the industrial revolution. He discovered a brilliant scientific way to account for
every problem looming over the project. He used two shells within the dome bound
with large hoops, supported by tension rings of stone, iron and wood. He built the
first 46 feet in stone and continued with brick, a much lighter material. This discovery
is revolutionary even today, and it paved the way for cultural and social revolutions
of the Renaissance. Even though Brunelleschi invented the idea and oversaw the
entire production, he relied on the work of a devoted army of masons and
stonecutters, carpenters, blacksmiths, lead beaters, barrelmakers, water carriers, and

Scientific Progression in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and...
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is an early 19th century cautionary tale examining the
dark, self destructive side of human reality and human soul. It is written in the
Romantic era where society greatly valued scientific and technological advancement.
Throughout the novel, Shelley expresses her concerns of extreme danger when man
transgresses science and all ethical values are disregarded. The implications of
debatable experimentation and thriving ambition could evoke on humanity are
explored in the novel. Likewise, Blade Runner, a sci fi film directed by Ridley Scott
in 1982 is a futuristic representation of Los Angeles in 2019. The film reflects its key
widespread fears of its time, particularly the augmentation of globalization,... Show

Similarly, Blade Runner examines the danger of scientific advancement through the
use of film noir elements. An establishing shot of Los Angeles highlights how
scientific evolution has destroyed the environment resulting in an urban wasteland
with a claustrophobic, polluted atmosphere personifying a physical representation of
hell. Dissimilarly, the setting of Frankenstein embodies many romantic values such as
the changes of the seasons, tempest and calm . Overt materialism and globalisation is
shown through commercials of Atari and Coca cola with the backdrop of non
diagetic music. Society values corporate greed derived from scientific discoveries
ahead of the values of nature and emotion as Frankenstein embodies. Scott effectively
uses mis en scene of film noir elements such as a misty room, silhouette figure and
intense darkness in the interrogation of Leon to illustrate the superhuman power of
replicants. Immense scientific advancement is contrasted through environmental
degradation and genetically engineered replicants that appear to be more human than
human .
A prevailing theme within Frankenstein is the recurring conflict of science and
religion. Shelley utilizes dramatic irony when Victor plays God by creating a new
species that would bless him as its creator and source . Victor doesn t fulfill his role
as God as he rejects his creation and doesn t provide it a proper upbringing. Shelley
utilizes a doppelganger,
British Imperialism In Africa
Imperialism in Africa was a hindrance towards development of African states as
independent nations. Borders being drawn poorly, horrible treatment of the people
originally living there, and dependence on the mother country were all responsible for
delaying the countries of Africa becoming modern an independent land.
Imperialism is a specific form of colonial rule where the mother country does not send
its own people to the country. Imperialism is characterized by indirect rule by the
parent country. European nations frequently created large imperial possessions for
wealth and exports. European countries often exploited other lands, such as Africa for
natural resources. Africa was often exploited for its precious minerals and metals.

Also, a large portion of eastern edge of Cape Town was surrounded by native people
that had many conflicts with themselves. The British in the late 19th early 20th
century the British were still a minority in South Africa. During this time, the British
to prevent South Africa from becoming independent used various tactics to keep
South Africa part of the British Empire. One such tactic used by the British was to
keep South Africa was to foster a British identity in South Africa. Additionally, the
British used a connected economic, commercial, and strategic link between South
Africa and Britain. Essentially Britain made South Africa dependent on Britain for
their economic and financial stability. The also laid the foundation for Apartheid
which was the separation of races other than white in South Africa. Britain also made
their other colonies dependent on them. Africa was very important to European
countries due to it s natural resources coal, gold and other resources. Especially in
the Congo which was a source of revenue for Belgium. The Berlin Conference
divided up Africa in 1884 between the European countries to prevent conflict between
the parent countries. Borders were drawn on

There have been very few books that I have changed in relation to the amount I ve

like the story of promethius or atlas, world war z, do androids dream of electric sleep,
many of Isaac Asimov s books, many of Arthur C Clarke s books as well, some H.P.
Love craft works, 1984, starship troopers, anthem and the halo book series. Not
that I don t enjoy reading, I read everyday as a matter of fact but they tend to be news
articles, opinion pieces, forums, academic journals in the sciences, Wikipedia entries
and so on but not any books. I ve never really enjoyed the books that were
specifically assigned to be read in school and books I did enjoy I read earlier like
anthem or Fahrenheit 451. Reading at school always to me seemed like an act in
futility since I didn t enjoy it since the material wasn t very interesting to me and that
I already a more than generous amount on my own on the internet but that never
counted and the material certainly wasn t covered in the computer quizzes that also
gave one special reading points in elementary school. However the first interesting
books that I did read I was enthralled by. Not only because of the interesting stories
but also because of the various philosophical implications. I particularly enjoyed the

Bossypants Chapter Summary
Every writer has certain organization methods implemented throughout their book
which make their piece of writing unique. Tina Fey, the author behind the memoir
Bossypants, is no exception. Within the autobiography, she utilized different
structural devices to portray her life, such as chronological order, lists, sub chapters,
and footnotes. The way Ms. Fey arranged her book undoubtedly affected the memoir
as a whole. To begin, Tina Feyorganized her book chronologically starting from
kindergarten and working her way through her life until present. The memoir started
out with the chapter, Origin Story, where she introduces herself to the reader and
lays out her early life. For example, During the spring semester of kindergarten I was

were the focus of the chapter. To prevent this chapter from becoming confusing,
Ms. Fey strategically used sub chapters, including, In a Shocking Turn of Events,
Meanwhile, Across Town, and Back at 30 Rock (page 181 184). All of these sub
chapters allowed for this hectic, action filled chapter to remain organized. In
continuation, the use of footnotes within Bossypants, allowed for there to be clarity
on certain topics. For instance, To say he was unfriendly would be the biggest
understatement since the captain of Hindenberg said I smell gas. When first reading
there might be confusion, but it had a footnote attached that said, Or it would be the
biggest understatement since Warren Buffet said, I can pay for dinner tonight. Or it
would be the biggest understatement since Charlie Sheen said, I m gonna have fun

precision and the reader can take away from it the true intent, this guy was not a

effective management of people in organizations is absolutely direct. It is impossible
to manage people in organization effectively without knowledge about OB,

Downsizing, restructuring, and reengineering have had a profound effect on
organizations as firms respond to increased global competition and technological
change. Surveys show that the consequences of these events have been decreased
trust, morale, lower job satisfaction and organizational commitment, and shifting
loyalties. Structural changes in work arrangements such as part time work and
temporary and contract work are expected to become the future standard forms of
work and will forever influence the nature of employee organization relationships.
The field of organizational behaviour offers many potential solutions to these kinds of
problems and on how to establish positive and supportive employee organization
relationships.
Increasing competition and changes in the environment have led many organizations
to focus on quality in an attempt to achieve continuous improvement in the quality of
an organization s products and/or services. As well, organizations are learning to do
things faster as speed can be a real competitive advantage. Finally, organizations need
to become more flexible in order to respond and adapt to an increasingly uncertain,
turbulent, and chaotic environment. The need for quality, speed, and flexibility
requires a high degree of employee involvement and commitment as well as
teamwork.

Persuasive Essay On Eternal Life
The word immortal is hardly heard by one another unless speaking about a fiction
movie or character. Immortal or immortality is defined as, eternal life or the ability to
live forever. In the film, The Immoratalist, directed by David Alvarado and Jason
Sussberg conduct a documentary. Containing two completely different individuals,
scientists, with the same goal and dream in mind, to find a way to prove that
immorality is possible and that it can be achieved in the next decades to come.
Although a very intriguing subject and amazing achievement to the humanrace if ever
discovered, I can not help to think, is immortalityas good as it sounds? The idea that
we can live for a longer or endless time is astonishing, but in reality that possibility
may not be as great as it sounds. If the people in the world had a method to become
immortal, the cost, population and ones mental health can be affected in a
negative way. As one become aware with age, the world unfortunately is moved by
money. The cost of everything in life is measured, and unless one is rich or
extremely well off, financial situations can always be an issue. Imagine how much
it is going to cost to find a method to become immortal, once discovered, like all
medicine, how much will it cost you to buy it and own it for yourself or a love one.
Modern medicine now in days is controlled federally and has become an enormously
business. With that being said who would be able to buy immortality? Surely not
everyone, only
Asian-American Women Stereotypes
As an Asian American woman, I want to see better representation for the Asian
community; if media is supposed to reflect the real world, then there is no excuse
for leaving Asians out in American films. I want to dissect why Asians are still
marginalized and stereotyped today when there is a demand for more diversity in
media. In addition, I want to cover the history behind the stereotyping and
whitewashing of Asians in Hollywood and how that still has a negative impact
today. In fact, recent movies have white washed Asian roles in favor of white actors.
In May 2015, Sony released Aloha, where Emma Stone portrayed Allison Ng, a part
Chinese Hawaiian fighter pilot. This blatant erasure is also evident in Dreamworks
casting of Scarlett Johansson... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Movies produced in the later half of the twentieth century still suffered from
stereotypes set by films from years ago. In Year of the Dragon (1985), Tracy Tzu,
despite being a professional newscaster, was also portrayed as seductive and
mysterious, manhandled and dominated by the Caucasian hero, Stanley White, as
he overpowers her and carries her off to bed like a trophy (Rajgopal, 2010, p. 149).
These stereotypes of Asian women in film feed into the stereotypes of Asian
women offscreen, and being perceived as exotic and submissive contributes to a
higher risk of sexual assault, as if they are somehow asking for it (Rajgopal, 2010).
The portrayal of Asians matched with the progression of history showed America
was projecting its fear and othering Asians through media. If Asians are not
portrayed in a stereotypical role, then they are given no role at all, rendered
invisible by Hollywood and the masses. Because the West was not hugely exposed
to the East, the easiest way to generalize Eastern people was to build fictional
characters of an extreme (Wang, 2010, p. 86). Asians were not talked about, and
when they were, it was through caricatures and
The Effects Of Risk Management On Health Care
Organizations
In the context of risk management, there are several ways that Failure Mode and
Effects Analysis can be used to improve processes in health care organizations.
According to Stanley Davis and colleagues, documenting and analyzing potential
risks proactively is essential for improving patient safety (Davis, et al., n.d.). The
article states that Failure Mode and Effects Analysis(FMEA) is used prospectively to
identify the possible system failures, and to fix the problems to make the system
more robust before an adverse event actually occurs (Davis, et al., n.d.). In a study
conducted by G Bonfant and colleagues (2010), FMEA was used for chronic
hemodialysis outpatients. The authors recorded phases and activities, listed activity
related failure modes and effects, described control measures, assigned severity,
occurrence and detection scores for each failure mode and calculated the riskpriority
numbers (RPNs) by multiplying the 3 scores (Bonfant, et al., 2010). The authors
(2010) also analyzed failure mode causes, made recommendations, and planned new
control measures. Their results showed that the failure modes with the highest RPN
was from communication, and organizing problems (Bonfant, et al., 2010). They
(2010) created two tools to fix the communication flow, including dialysis agenda
software, and nursing datasheets. In addition, the authors scheduled nephrological
examinations, and changed medical and nursing organization, and this resulted in a
decrease in RPN value
Reflection Of A Watcher In The Classroom
For this lesson I started with having the students gather in the library in order to read
the story to them. The students have a word watcher that they use when they are
reading their books. The word watcher is a plastic candy cane and I used that for this
lesson to activate prior knowledge. I held up the candy cane and asked the students
what they see. I had some students comment that there is a red strip on the candy
cane. The students also noticed a white strip, and then they noticed that the red and
white create a pattern. I asked where is the pattern on the candy cane, and they
showed that the red and white strips move continually up the candy cane, it just
continues in a swirling motion. The students also commented on how if you turn...

I kept the candy canes until the art lesson. I placed the candy canes on each student s
desk before the students came back from recess. This allowed the students to get to
the lesson right away. I did have them get out their scissors and liquid glue. Once
the students had everything out, I told them to hold their hands up so I could see
that they were ready. I used this classroom management strategy so that I could
clearly see who was ready. I had created a candy cane so that I could do the activity
with the students so they could clearly see what needed to be done. I started by
having the students cut the red strips. It was interesting to see how students did
this. Some would cut straight across, and some students would have cuts that were
slanted. As the students were cutting I was walking around and was commenting
and how their candy canes were looking so far. I had the students place all the red
pieces on the white candy cane. Once most students were finished I told them to
take off every other red strip. I told the students that it is really important for the
element of space that you leave the red pieces where they where. This will add the
element of line into our candy cane. After that I had the students glue down the
pieces. Once the pieces were glued on I had the students take the brown square and
cut out a circle for the head. Then the students were told to put eyes and a mouth on
the circle. It was very interesting to see
Why Are Red Wolves Endangered
Red Wolves have no natural predators. The Red Wolves have been endangered
since the 1960s, which has affected history and the environment ( Red Wolves
History Red Wolves Conservation Center). The red wolf s main threat is breeding
with the eastern coyotes, but can helped by having specialists set up camp to breed
red wolves together. The Red Wolves, which are also known as the CanisRufus, are
the world s most endangered canid (Red WolfHabitat). The length of a red wolf is
four to five feet, weigh from fifty to eighty pounds, and a height of about twenty
six inches. Their fur is black and brown on the top of their body and yam (brown,
orange, red) on the stomach area. These beautiful creatures live in swamps, forests,
and coastal prairies from Southeastern Texas to Central Pennsylvania. Canis Rufus
hunt and live in a pack of five to eight. In the pack, there is an alpha wolf, which is a
wolf which breeds adult duplets and progeny. Wolves are known to only have a
partner throughout its life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Red Wolves are originally from Southeastern USA. Because of habitat loss and the
control predator programs, red wolves, that were left, migrated to the Northeastern
part of USA. Which was harmful to them, because of the vast populations of
coyotes in Northeastern USA. The incorporation of small Red Wolf population, vast
Coyotes population, and small area causes the two species to interbreed. This
interbreeding causes the breakdown of natural barriers ( Red Wolves and Coyotes
USFWS). The minor threats, such as vehicle and illegal mortality and diseases such
as hookworms and heartworms, are also extremely bad for Red Wolves. They happen
to them when they are in the wild. These blessed animals should be saved from the
threats of habitat loss, predator control programs, reproduction with coyotes, and

Japanese have managed to fully undertake the capital of the Philippines, Manila.
For the next three months Americans and Filipino forces combined to defend their

troops, surrendered at Bataan from the orders of U.S. General Edward King Jr by
the reasons of starvation and disease. After the surrender, the Japanese separated
the troops into small groups of about 100 people and forced POW s to march a 65

Japanese believed that soldier must die before surrender. A great amount of the

The march lasted for five days and for some it lasted up to twelve days to get to

Freeman vs. Friedman
Freeman vs. Friedman In their theories of how a business should operate, R.
Edward Freeman and Milton Friedman hold virtually opposite beliefs as to what
businesses responsibilities should be. In favor of the Stakeholder theory, Freeman
believes that any person or organization that has a stake in the business should also
play a role of participation in the business s actions and decisions. In the other corner
of the ring stands Milton Friedman, who holds the belief that said business is only

Nowadays, after the passing of several bills constraining the actions of
corporations, acting in a similar manner would pose several legal and ethical
issues. This is why, Freeman argues, this ancient idea of managerial capitalism is
no longer effective. After bashing the old idea of managerial capitalism, Freeman
starts explaining why his reconceptualized stakeholder concept is much more
logical. Freeman modestly articulates a stakeholder theory using the narrow
definition of a stakeholder, which includes those who are vital to the success and
survival of a corporation. Specifically, these stakeholders include owners,
management, suppliers, employees, customers, and the local community. As well
as being directly connected with the corporation, Freeman argues that the
stakeholders are also interconnected with each other as well, and that each
stakeholder is vital to the survival of the corporation, and vice versa. Employees
rely on the business to give them a paycheck; the business provides their
livelihood. Employees return the favor because they run the business on a day to
day basis. Suppliers are vital to the firm s success because the quality of the raw
materials purchased will determine the quality and price of the final good produced
by the firm. As a result, the firm is a customer of their supplier, and is therefore vital
to their supplier s success. The next stakeholder, customers,
Ambition In Macbeth
Macbeth is a play that took place on medieval Scotland. The play is based on
Macbeth s ambition to become the King of Scotland. The play has three witches that
have a vision that Macbeth is going to become the next king of Scotland and that his
friend Banquo will beget a line of Scottish kings, although Banquo will never be king
himself. This vision became the core of the play even though Macbethwas one of
King s Duncan favorite generals. This wasn t a sufficient reason to stop Macbeth
from perusing the ultimate goal, which was to commit Treason, kill the king and
become the king of Scotland.
Macbeth and Banquo were well known in this play, because of the act valor and

philosophy applies to the same situation followed by a brief summary.
There are numerous definitions of the word leadership and it can mean many things to

leadership is ...the art and science of motivating, influencing, and directing airmen to

I believe without integrity as the cornerstone in building any relationships, higher
levels of productivity cannot be obtained and ultimately with crumble. It is
important for your people to trust that you have their interests and goals at heart
while also laying out clear expectations early on in your command and trusting, yet
verifying all parties are meeting expectations. Throughout my life and previous
experiences I have witnessed firsthand how cohesive units are when these values
are incorporated into leadership philosophies and have also seen how detrimental it
is to the unit if they are not incorporated. An additional layer to integrity is that I
would never ask of others what I would or could not do myself. Nothing will
alienate a follower quicker than a leader who is unwilling to work as hard as or
demonstrate that they are willing to get in the trenches with the people they are
leading.
For my interview, I interviewed a peer who is a squadron commander at Grand Forks
Air Force Base, ND4. He stated his most challenging leadership issue came about
early on in his command. Within the first six weeks of his command, seven of his
Airmen failed their PT tests. One of these failures was an Airman facing a medical
evaluation board due to several back surgeries. The commander states he was
sympathetic to his situation but he had to remain tough since it was

Fashion Values In The Fashion Industry
The current reality of clothing production, called fast fashion, is the industry standard
of mass producing luxury styles in a matter of weeks. To do so, clothes are churned
out quickly using poor quality materials. This is problematic because of the large
amount of unnecessary environmental damage that this business model causes. The
fashionindustry should abandon the current trend of fast fashion and disposable
clothingto decrease the amount of hazardous environmental waste created. The
fashion industry should adopt slow fashion values that aim to cut excess consumer
waste by changing the current societal norms around fashion buying and clothing
disposal. Fast fashion has become the pinnacle of the fashion industry because it is
very profitable. Cheap material and cheap overseas labor has made places like
Walmart, Zara, and H M twice as profitable as any retail store (Cline, The Clothes
Make the Movement , 21). The average American household spends one thousand
and seven hundred dollars on apparel every year. One third of the average
household expense is claimed by women aged sixteen and older who spend over
five hundred dollars on clothing and shoes annually (Bureau of Labor Statistics).
That dollar amount translates into an average of sixty eight items of clothing and
seven pairs of shoes per the average American (Cline, The Clothes Make the
Movement , 21). Cheap textile materials quickly fall apart, lose color and shape, and
are replaced by new fashion trends.
The Importance Of Public Art
Public art has a way of bringing communities together and starting conversations. This
semester I am working with Dane Arts Mural Arts (DAMA), which is a nonprofit arts
group that creates murals and other forms of art throughout the various communities
of Dane County. DAMA is a public and community art program that train local artists
to become community artists to create muralsthat beautify neighborhoods, bring
people together, and make a difference in the lives of youth. The leaders of the
program collaborate with communities to encourage students to become agents of
change by developing projects that physically and socially benefits communities.
Dane Arts Mural Arts is more than a group of artists that create murals. The program
helps train new artists in the process of creating public art and encourages students,
youth, and community members to take part in the activity. Through DAMA,
students heighten their connection to their community. DAMA works hard to
provide students opportunities to experience success through artistically created
hands on projects. By working with at risk youth, they are constantly making
differences in student s lives. Engaging students can be challenging, but through
project based learning, DAMA uses art as an educational tool to increase school
attendance and improve individual s motivation to succeed. Art has the innate power
to transform places, individuals, and communities. One of the most influential ways
they help communities is by

In Superior Wisconsin, the CO alarm of a neighbor could have saved two people

monoxide poisoning, and they had to be taken to the Superior hospital, where they
had been listed as stable. When firefighters responded to the call about carbon

building located on the 1500 block of Broadway.
During the initial monitoring, they found low levels of carbon monoxide. Around
five parts per million within the hallway of the apartment, but one apartment on the
first floor had excess levels that reached above 70 ppm. During further investigation,
firefighters discovered that a malfunctioning furnace was the culprit for the higher
levels of CO. To make matters worse, the carbon monoxide detector had the battery

AGAINST THE GODS The Remarkable Story of Risk By Peter L. Bernstein I
have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by Against the Gods. I expected this book
to be a typical dry book on a given financial subject, detailing use, application, and
theory. I completely took for granted the fact that math, particularly risk, has history.
The author did a fantastic job of painting a picture and explaining how, why and
when concepts we use today came into being. While reading this book I became
excited about risk and statistical analysis. The author is Peter L. Bernstein graduate of
Harvard, economist, educator, and historian. He lived from January 1919 to June
2009. Bernstein is best remembered for his contributions in investment... Show more

It was a very profound and eye opening moment for me to see how the author tied
communism to the deliberate exclusion of risk. Any manipulation or attempt to
hide risk changes the outcome and outlook of a situation. This was evidenced in
the Soviet Union when their government tried to exercise control by pushing the
concept of risk out of consideration. The end result was a complete stifling of social
and economic progress. I personally compare this scenario to what Bernstein said
earlier in the book about Greek society. Although the Greeks were great
philosophers and were on the cusp of discovering risk, no great inventions or
discoveries in math or science happened in their time. Another thing I liked about
the book was in certain areas the discussion tied back to what I am currently
working with on our StockTrak assignment specifically, the topes of options and
dividends. Bernstein told the story of how in 1973 Fischer Black and Myron
Scholes created an options pricing model and tried to have their work published.
Although their work wasn t accepted because neither Black nor Scholes had
advanced degrees, their work went on to become very instrumental in options pricing
and liabilities. With relation to dividends Bernstein explained how both investors and
corporations would make more money if instead of paying dividends corporations
used that money to repurchase outstanding shares of stock. In several areas of the

came up during the Cold War and the Cold War ended shortly after the Berlin Wall
fell. The Berlin Wall separated East and West Berlin. Many people died trying to
cross the Berlin Wall to see family or friends. In 1987 Ronald Reagan (United States
president from 1981 to 1989 ) demanded Mr.Gorbachev (general secretary of the
Communist Party of the Soviet Union) to tear down the Berlin Wallto unite the Berlin
people. The struggle was called the Cold Warbecause it did not actually lead to
fighting. The Cold War started in 1947 between the Eastern blocand the Western bloc.
In 1961 the Berlin Wall went up. East and West Berlin were controlled by two
different people. According to Words That Built A Nation it says, The Soviets
controlled East Berlin, while England, France, and the United States controlled
West Berlin. Two years after the Berlin Wall went up John F Kennedy (United
States president from 1961 until his assassination in November 1963) gave a
speech at the Berlin Wall. According to Words That Built A Nation it says, Two
years later, President John F. Kennedy made a speech at the wall. To show his
support for the people of Berlin, he proclaimed, Ich bine ein Berliner. In John F.
Kennedy s speech he said Ich bine ein Berliner which means I am a Berliner in
German. After the Berlin Wall went up people started to fight for the ability to cross

The Importance of Education in The Republic by Plato
The great philosopher Plato, speaking through the character of Socrates in his
book The Republic, holds the belief that true and good education is what leads
civilizations to prosper. Due to this, he is very concerned with the issue of
education and how it will be addressed in the state that he and his fellow
companions hope to design and build. He talks about how important education is in
achieving this idea of justice and morality. Furthermore, I believe that many of the
concepts he brings about relating to this subject are still very valid today and can be
applied worldwide. Platobelieves that education is necessary for the rulers of cities
to be effective and that it is the only way to truly understand and achieve the goal
of providing and looking out for the citizens of any state. One of the reasons Plato
finds education such a necessity and regards it so highly is that it is required to
even understand the concept of true justice and being able to distinguish it from
injustice. Now although the major point of this book is to establish a meaning for
justice, he believes that education is key and it is clear that all the people he
associates with in the story are well educated high members of society. Having
knowledge on this subject and many others will allow those that eventually become
guardians to tell when something is not just or is at least not beneficial for the well
being of the citizens. Education is also a major factor in understanding the souland the
The Daffodils Comparison
Two poems that share or have a similar meaning are quot; The Daffodils quot; written
by William
Wordsworth and quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; written by Gillian Clarke.
Both writers wrote their poems in different times but share a very similar meaning.
The poem quot; The Daffodils quot; inspired
quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworthwrote creates a
unique situation, which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never
seen the daffodils in which he wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique
imagination and a few details that he has, William
Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem
which sets for a beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel
the true beauty of the scene. In the poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning
of the poem, when he uses such specific words that are very contradictory with other
parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so alone, but with other people
in the other parts of the poem.
The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong
imagination to create a multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine
yourself. The happiness he gains from creating these images in his mind, fulfill him
up with even more happiness and joy.
Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and
joyful, it involves many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils
by William s technique is to reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the
countryside. Showing the good side of
Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the
daffodils and identifies them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their
beauty not only affects him and his emotions but also the rest of the environment
around him. He also comments on the huge ability that these daffodils have raised
the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very obvious that he has been
completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on him and
how William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has
created for himself and learn from it. William
Essay about Sam Phillips, the Father of Rock and Roll
Rock and Roll has come a long way since 1952 when music business icon Sam
Phillips created it. Sam Phillips is considered the father of Rock and Roll. He went
against the social normality of segregated music, and produced music that he felt
should be made. Even when faced with career ending criticism, Phillips continued on
making history. Not only is Sam Phillipsresponsible for the being the origin of the
seemingly everlasting Rock and Rollmovement, he segregated music amidst all kinds
of cultural disruption with civil rights. Sam Phillips is considered a musical

Phillips s stand on racial boundaries in music. Elvis drew national attention to Sun

Furthermore, Sun Records and Sam Phillips went under fire by local radio stations

Exploring The Role Of Perseus In Homer s Odyssey
Head: Perseus throughout the movie has a grievance towards the gods, and wishes
not to use anything they give to him, even if it is helpful in his journey to slay
Kraken and kill Hades. Perseus also thought the gods cannot help and refuses to be
anything but a man. Perseus additionally denies involvement with Zeus, and even
goes as far to deny the opportunity to have a spot in Olympus, and become an
immortal god. Perseuss reasoning for this was to not be dependent on the gods, or
to be like his father Zeus. Perseus stuck by this belief, even when he knew doing so
would cost some of his men s lives, but he eventually lets his grudge go once
Acrisius attacked Io.
Eyes: Perseus s hate for the gods was sparked by witnessing the death of his whole
family, a direct result of Hades attack on the soldiers who destroyed Zeus statue.
Through this, Perseus joined the fight against the Gods to get revenge on Hades
and save Argos from the Kraken. Not only did Perseus witnessing his parents drive
him to join Argos s effort at taking down the Gods, it also taught him to be proud as
a man, and not have pride in godly blood. This lesson helped and harmed Perseus
during his journey by giving him determination to stop the Gods as a man, but his ...

worshiped by humanity for too long, and it is finally time for humans to take a stand
against them. This belief stuck with Perseus throughout his journey and fueled his
hatred towards the gods. Hence, Perseus tried his hardest to not embrace his
godliness, and took pride in being mortal, to the point where Perseus even denies
being immortal. Through this, Perseus joined the Argonian army to not only kill the
Kraken, but to also attempt to take Hades
Twelve Habits Of Christian Thought
The Apostle Paul says that we should rejoice always (Phil. 4:4). The basis of our
attitude is not on our circumstances but on the character of God. Philippians 4: 8 9,
tells us what we should have our minds set on. It will take verbal and mental
discipline as Christians to develop the characteristics of a healing church.
Six Habits of Christian Thought
The author lists the six commandments Paul states that form the habit of Christian
thought. (1) Think about those things. Let go of the negatives and have Christ like
thoughts. (2) Think with discernment. Think on Jesus the Truth not on facts alone.
Not all facts are true. (3) Think honorable thoughts. These thoughts dwell on praise,
worship, and thanksgiving. We are God s workmanship to which we owe only praise
and thanksgiving. (4) Think just thoughts. All our thoughts should be without
prejudice and bigotry. We are to think rightly and justly about all situations, giving
everyone the same chance in our consideration of them. (p. 165) (5) Think untainted
thoughts. Think thoughts from the Spirit, not mindless, vain meditation. (6) Have an
eye for the beauty around you. Life is more than facts and statistics. There is beauty
and artistic value in creation. We are to marvel at God s handiwork. We are to think
like Jesus thought, which is different from the world. It takes discipline to become a
healing church.

Essay about Traveling Through the Dark by William
Stafford
Traveling Through the Dark by William Stafford
In his poem, Traveling Through the Dark, William Stafford presents the reader with
the difficulty of one man s choice. Immediately, the scene is set, with the driver, who
is traveling though the dark (line 1) coming upon a recently killed deer. At first, his
decision with what to do with the deer is easy; he knows he must push it off the
edge for the safety of other motorists, but then, a closer examination of the deer
reveals to the man new circumstances. His decision is now perplexing, and his course
of action is unclear. Through his use of metaphor, symbolism, and personification,
Stafford alludes to the difficult decisions that occur along the road of life, and the ...

The deceased deer is what forces the man to stop along the road, and death in general
is what causes humans to stop along their path and take time to make decisions.
One main way the theme of death is illustrated is through symbolism of the deer,
canyon, and river. The deer is a roadblock which must be dealt with before the man
can continue on his journey. He cannot simply push death to the side of the road.
Here, the deer would rot and fester; instead, as Stafford states in the first stanza, it
is usually best to roll them into the canyon (line 3). The way to deal with this
problem is to discard of it immediately and to not hesitate at all. Literally, this is
true for the safety of other motorists. Furthermore, it is necessary to deal properly
with this problem so one can continue on their path in life. The canyon, and river at
the bottom, therefore come to symbolize the depth of our individual souls; we push
problems into our souls, and slowly deal with them. By doing this, our problems and
death, may be symbolically washed away.
Another way the decisions made when stopping along the road of life are
symbolized is through Stafford?s use of the double entendre swerving (lines 4, 17).
Literally, when explaining why the man should move the deer, Stafford writes, to
swerve [in a car] might make more dead (line 4). This also refers to a swerve in
The Impacts Of Population Growth

The Impacts of Population Growth
Throughout human history, population growth is one of the most important topics
brought into discussion. Globally, there are about 7.2 billion people in the world,
and it will rise up to 11 billion or more by the 21st century (Brown). When we look
back in the history, population growth has been so slow as to be imperceptible within
a single generation, Reaching a globally population of 1 billion in 1804 required the
entire time since the humans appeared on the scene. To add the second billion, it
took until 1927, just over 100 years. Thirty three years later, in 1960, world population
reached 3 billion (Brown 15). Then the pace sped ... Show more content on

However, I would more rather believe that our ecological systems will self fix the
population problems as the natural resource pressure and social pressure increase.
The capacity of natural resources is one of the most essential information to
indicate how many people would fit in this planet. Aquifers and river basins are
two of the natural water resources that to supply drinking water, industry and
agricultural irrigation. In the analysis report of the water supply and demand in
the Colorado River Basin, water use from the Colorado River Basin has tripled
since 1923, and started passing beyond the amount of water supply in 2000
(Katel). Since then, the reserved river resources became imbalanced and started
decreasing every year. The rapidly growth of population and impropriated human
activities are two of the main reasons that destroy the pervious balancing
ecosystem. With the population growth increasing, the world will consume more
water, grain, and food, and creating more wastes than before. In fact, there are
around 70% of accessible fresh water to use globally in agricultural businesses and
to produce grain to feed people and livestock, but 60% of this is wasted due to the
leaky irrigation system and inefficient application of methods as

Gabriel Garcia Marquez Essays. On the Genius of Gabriel Garcia Marquez - Arthinkal Magazine

  • 1. Gabriel Garcia Marquez Essays Crafting an essay on the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a challenging yet intellectually rewarding endeavor. The complexity lies not only in the vastness of Marquez's literary repertoire but also in the intricate layers of magical realism that permeate his narratives. To adequately delve into the essence of his writings requires a profound understanding of Latin American history, culture, and the socio-political landscape that influenced Marquez's storytelling. Moreover, grappling with Marquez's distinctive narrative style, characterized by elaborate and labyrinthine sentences, demands a keen eye for detail and an ability to navigate through the intertwining threads of reality and fantasy. Analyzing the symbolism and metaphors inherent in his works adds another layer of intricacy, as Marquez masterfully weaves allegorical elements into the fabric of his storytelling. The challenge extends beyond the textual analysis to the exploration of the author's personal life, influences, and the historical context in which he lived. Researching and understanding the cultural milieu of Colombia, where Marquez spent a significant part of his life, becomes imperative to provide a comprehensive perspective on his writings. Furthermore, the essay must capture the essence of Marquez's contributions to literature, his impact on the magical realism genre, and his influence on subsequent generations of writers. This involves a meticulous examination of literary criticism, scholarly articles, and interviews with the author himself. In conclusion, writing an essay on Gabriel Garcia Marquez requires not just literary prowess but also a deep dive into cultural, historical, and philosophical realms. It demands the ability to unravel the intricacies of his narratives, decode the symbolism, and contextualize his work within the broader spectrum of Latin American literature. It is, indeed, a task that necessitates dedication, extensive research, and a genuine passion for the magical world that Marquez so brilliantly crafted in his literary creations. • 2. The Importance Of College Connections In College It s a known fact that college is vastly different from high school, and in a general sense, that s very true. College is full of new challenges and opportunities to prepare for the future. Along with harder classes and independance, college is also about socializing with fellow students in an environment in which everyone is always on the move. Having connections can lead to future success within an industry as well as people to communicate with and work with while in college. In high school, it is easy to make connections with people because of the way classschedules work: four classes a day, five days a week. Compared to high school schedules, College schedules are free form, with class number and class type varying by the day, and, as such, it s more difficult to connect with other students. The easiest way to create meaningful connections with other students is by joining a school club. Co curricular organizations are usually more constructive than extracurricular, as co curricular relate to a selected major while extracurricular relate to hobbies. Ideally, it s best to try and find a balance between co curricular and extracurricular clubs. For example, three clubs I, someone dual majoring in computer science and music composition, hope to become involved with during my college career are the game development club, the art club, and Code.life. The game development club is a co curricular club that doubles as an extracurricular club in my case. By joining this club, I
  • 3. Analysis Of Crime And Punishment By Fyodor Dostoyevsky In the novel Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoyevsky details the story of Raskolnikov who struggles with the consequences of an significant personal transgression. This leads him into a life full of struggle and emotion. Because of the crimes in his past, Raskolnikov finds himself alienated from society and from his family but finds comfort in a place where he feels justified and has nothing to lose. From the beginning of the novel, Raskolnikov seems to be estranged from society as well as from the rest of humanity. His struggles conform with his inability to fit in and see others as his equal, which affects his ability to interact with others. He would often avoid his problems with many people in the novel. For instance, he was in debt to his landlady, and was afraid of seeing her; so any time Raskolnikov would have to meet up with her, he would find another way. On his way out to town one day he was able to successfully avoid her by taking another route. This behavior developed as a result of his isolation from people and society which lead to Raskolnikov being drawn into a more lonely lifestyle. The beginning of the novel describes Raskolnikov by stating He had become so completely absorbed in himself, and isolated from his fellows that he dreaded meeting, not only his landlady, but any one at all (Dostoevsky 1). This behavior only got worse throughout the novel after he killed Alyona, an old pawnbroker, and her sister, Lizaveta, because of the guilt he felt in
  • 4. The Spiritual Practice Of The Labyrinth Since I was a child I was told to read the Bible, pray, and repeat. Eventually, these few spiritual practices became empty rituals to me for a time. In the duration of this class thus far, I ve had the chance to relook at my spiritual practices, learn why I should practice them, and then put them into practice with a right heart. I ve also had the chance to partake in many other types of spiritual practices. One in particular interested me, so I decided to try it that is, the spiritual practiceof the Labyrinth. There were many spiritual practices that I had never done before on the list, but the Labyrinth was a formative practice that I hadn t even heard of. I had no experience with the discipline before the class. However, I decided to try it because I might not have had the chance to practice it again, unless I first tried it. Also, the fact of a spiritual practice having a labyrinth involved greatly interested me, and I wanted to study it. When I found out what the Labyrinth was I wanted to try it even more. A prayer labyrinth is a labyrinth used to facilitate prayer, meditation, spiritual transformation, and/or global unity. Walking a prayer labyrinth is seen in 3 stages: Purgation, Illumination, and Union. Purgation occurs as you first walk into the labyrinth until you reach the center, the goal is to clear the mind from distractions, and open the heart. Illumination happens at the center, the goal to pray and meditate and listen to what God has for you. Union,

The Portrayal of the Plight of Women by the Author, In Their Particular Period of Time Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour and Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman are similar pieces of literary work. Both stories offer a revealing glimpse of extremely unhappy marriages due to being forced into stereotypical roles. Both stories portray women, who are trapped in their marriages and trapped in their socially expected matriarchal characters. They are identified by their role as a wife and mother. When her husband is killed in a train accident Mrs. Mallard cries, but for different reasons than would be expected. She is sad for her husband s death, but, moreover, she is overcome with joy. For now she is free. No one recognizes her true emotions because women fall apart when their spouse dies; it s required. Marriage is portrayed as a life sentence. She said it over and over again under her breath: free, free, free! Her pulse beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body (1). Mrs. Mallard was relieved that her husband died for she thought her sentence was over. When she realized that he was still alive, and therefore she was still committed to the marriage, she died from the shock and horror of being trapped. In both stories, women were expected to keep house, cook, bear and rear children but little more. Moreover, should a woman find work, employers generally discriminated against women by hiring them for menial jobs. Repression in both women may very well have been the reason for their ailments and certainly their deaths Though a weak heart and suicide might be a stretch, as to be caused by

  • 10. Flippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments Filippo Brunelleschi is considered a founding father of the renaissance, known for his innovative contributions in art, design, and architecture. He developed brilliant techniques for linear perspective and his artwork was acclaimed everywhere for its precision and beauty. In 1418, the Cathedral of Florencewas about to undergo a seemingly impossible task. The unfinished Cathedral was in need of a grand dome to complete the enormous hole in its roof. At the time, no one had ever undergone building a dome as large as 150 feet across, especially at 180 feet above ground! Even with all of the difficulties present, the city of Florence offered a large commission to the person with the best idea for completing the task. Even though Brunelleschi... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Could a dome weighing tens of thousands of tons stay up without them? Was a dome structure even possible given the octagonal floor plan, without collapsing in on itself? Not to mention the fact that no lifting mechanisms were available at the time to maneuver the heavy materials so far off the ground. Brunelleschi utilized innovative lifting inventions to deal with this problem. His complex system of gears and pulleys were so incredibly groundbreaking, they wouldn t be rivaled until the industrial revolution. He discovered a brilliant scientific way to account for every problem looming over the project. He used two shells within the dome bound with large hoops, supported by tension rings of stone, iron and wood. He built the first 46 feet in stone and continued with brick, a much lighter material. This discovery is revolutionary even today, and it paved the way for cultural and social revolutions of the Renaissance. Even though Brunelleschi invented the idea and oversaw the entire production, he relied on the work of a devoted army of masons and stonecutters, carpenters, blacksmiths, lead beaters, barrelmakers, water carriers, and other

Similarly, Blade Runner examines the danger of scientific advancement through the use of film noir elements. An establishing shot of Los Angeles highlights how scientific evolution has destroyed the environment resulting in an urban wasteland with a claustrophobic, polluted atmosphere personifying a physical representation of hell. Dissimilarly, the setting of Frankenstein embodies many romantic values such as the changes of the seasons, tempest and calm . Overt materialism and globalisation is shown through commercials of Atari and Coca cola with the backdrop of non diagetic music. Society values corporate greed derived from scientific discoveries ahead of the values of nature and emotion as Frankenstein embodies. Scott effectively uses mis en scene of film noir elements such as a misty room, silhouette figure and intense darkness in the interrogation of Leon to illustrate the superhuman power of replicants. Immense scientific advancement is contrasted through environmental degradation and genetically engineered replicants that appear to be more human than human . A prevailing theme within Frankenstein is the recurring conflict of science and religion. Shelley utilizes dramatic irony when Victor plays God by creating a new species that would bless him as its creator and source . Victor doesn t fulfill his role as God as he rejects his creation and doesn t provide it a proper upbringing. Shelley utilizes a doppelganger,

The idea that we can live for a longer or endless time is astonishing, but in reality that possibility may not be as great as it sounds. If the people in the world had a method to become immortal, the cost, population and ones mental health can be affected in a negative way. I want to dissect why Asians are still marginalized and stereotyped today when there is a demand for more diversity in media. In addition, I want to cover the history behind the stereotyping and whitewashing of Asians in Hollywood and how that still has a negative impact today. In fact, recent movies have white washed Asian roles in favor of white actors. In May 2015, Sony released Aloha, where Emma Stone portrayed Allison Ng, a part Chinese Hawaiian fighter pilot. Movies produced in the later half of the twentieth century still suffered from stereotypes set by films from years ago. In Year of the Dragon (1985), Tracy Tzu, despite being a professional newscaster, was also portrayed as seductive and mysterious, manhandled and dominated by the Caucasian hero, Stanley White, as he overpowers her and carries her off to bed like a trophy (Rajgopal, 2010, p. 149). These stereotypes of Asian women in film feed into the stereotypes of Asian women offscreen, and being perceived as exotic and submissive contributes to a higher risk of sexual assault, as if they are somehow asking for it (Rajgopal, 2010). The portrayal of Asians matched with the progression of history showed America was projecting its fear and othering Asians through media. If Asians are not portrayed in a stereotypical role, then they are given no role at all, rendered invisible by Hollywood and the masses. Because the West was not hugely exposed to the East, the easiest way to generalize Eastern people was to build fictional characters of an extreme (Wang, 2010, p. 86). Asians were not talked about, and when they were, it was through caricatures and

The Effects Of Risk Management On Health Care Organizations In the context of risk management, there are several ways that Failure Mode and Effects Analysis can be used to improve processes in health care organizations. According to Stanley Davis and colleagues, documenting and analyzing potential risks proactively is essential for improving patient safety (Davis, et al., n.d.). The article states that Failure Mode and Effects Analysis(FMEA) is used prospectively to identify the possible system failures, and to fix the problems to make the system more robust before an adverse event actually occurs (Davis, et al., n.d.). In a study conducted by G Bonfant and colleagues (2010), FMEA was used for chronic hemodialysis outpatients. The authors recorded phases and activities, listed activity related failure modes and effects, described control measures, assigned severity, occurrence and detection scores for each failure mode and calculated the riskpriority numbers (RPNs) by multiplying the 3 scores (Bonfant, et al., 2010). The authors (2010) also analyzed failure mode causes, made recommendations, and planned new control measures. Their results showed that the failure modes with the highest RPN was from communication, and organizing problems (Bonfant, et al., 2010). They (2010) created two tools to fix the communication flow, including dialysis agenda software, and nursing datasheets. In addition, the authors scheduled nephrological examinations, and changed medical and nursing organization, and this resulted in a decrease in RPN value

Freeman modestly articulates a stakeholder theory using the narrow definition of a stakeholder, which includes those who are vital to the success and survival of a corporation. Specifically, these stakeholders include owners, management, suppliers, employees, customers, and the local community. As well as being directly connected with the corporation, Freeman argues that the stakeholders are also interconnected with each other as well, and that each stakeholder is vital to the survival of the corporation, and vice versa. Employees rely on the business to give them a paycheck; the business provides their livelihood. Employees return the favor because they run the business on a day to day basis. The fashionindustry should abandon the current trend of fast fashion and disposable clothingto decrease the amount of hazardous environmental waste created. Fast fashion has become the pinnacle of the fashion industry because it is very profitable. It was a very profound and eye opening moment for me to see how the author tied communism to the deliberate exclusion of risk. Any manipulation or attempt to hide risk changes the outcome and outlook of a situation. This was evidenced in the Soviet Union when their government tried to exercise control by pushing the concept of risk out of consideration. The end result was a complete stifling of social and economic progress. I personally compare this scenario to what Bernstein said earlier in the book about Greek society. Although the Greeks were great philosophers and were on the cusp of discovering risk, no great inventions or discoveries in math or science happened in their time. Another thing I liked about the book was in certain areas the discussion tied back to what I am currently working with on our StockTrak assignment specifically, the topes of options and dividends. Bernstein told the story of how in 1973 Fischer Black and Myron Scholes created an options pricing model and tried to have their work published. Although their work wasn t accepted because neither Black nor Scholes had advanced degrees, their work went on to become very instrumental in options pricing and liabilities. With relation to dividends Bernstein explained how both investors and corporations would make more money if instead of paying dividends corporations used that money to repurchase outstanding shares of stock. Due to this, he is very concerned with the issue of education and how it will be addressed in the state that he and his fellow companions hope to design and build. He talks about how important education is in achieving this idea of justice and morality. Furthermore, I believe that many of the concepts he brings about relating to this subject are still very valid today and can be applied worldwide. Platobelieves that education is necessary for the rulers of cities to be effective and that it is the only way to truly understand and achieve the goal of providing and looking out for the citizens of any state. One of the reasons Plato finds education such a necessity and regards it so highly is that it is required to even understand the concept of true justice and being able to distinguish it from injustice. Now although the major point of this book is to establish a meaning for justice, he believes that education is key and it is clear that all the people he associates with in the story are well educated high members of society. The poem quot; The Daffodils quot; inspired quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworthwrote creates a unique situation, which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never seen the daffodils in which he wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique imagination and a few details that he has, William Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem which sets for a beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel the true beauty of the scene. In the poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning of the poem, when he uses such specific words that are very contradictory with other parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so alone, but with other people in the other parts of the poem. The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong imagination to create a multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine yourself. The happiness he gains from creating these images in his mind, fulfill him up with even more happiness and joy. Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and joyful, it involves many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils by William s technique is to reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the countryside. Showing the good side of Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the daffodils and identifies them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their beauty not only affects him and his emotions but also the rest of the environment around him. He also comments on the huge ability that these daffodils have raised the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very obvious that he has been completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on him and how William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has created for himself and learn from it. Eyes: Perseus s hate for the gods was sparked by witnessing the death of his whole family, a direct result of Hades attack on the soldiers who destroyed Zeus statue. Through this, Perseus joined the fight against the Gods to get revenge on Hades and save Argos from the Kraken. Not only did Perseus witnessing his parents drive him to join Argos s effort at taking down the Gods, it also taught him to be proud as a man, and not have pride in godly blood. This lesson helped and harmed Perseus during his journey by giving him determination to stop the Gods as a man, but his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This statement from his father gave Perseus the belief that the Gods have been worshiped by humanity for too long, and it is finally time for humans to take a stand against them. This belief stuck with Perseus throughout his journey and fueled his hatred towards the gods. Hence, Perseus tried his hardest to not embrace his godliness, and took pride in being mortal, to the point where Perseus even denies being immortal. Through this, Perseus joined the Argonian army to not only kill the Kraken, but to also attempt to take Hades
  • 41. Twelve Habits Of Christian Thought The Apostle Paul says that we should rejoice always (Phil. 4:4). The basis of our attitude is not on our circumstances but on the character of God. Philippians 4: 8 9, tells us what we should have our minds set on. It will take verbal and mental discipline as Christians to develop the characteristics of a healing church. Six Habits of Christian Thought The author lists the six commandments Paul states that form the habit of Christian thought. (1) Think about those things. Let go of the negatives and have Christ like thoughts. (2) Think with discernment. Think on Jesus the Truth not on facts alone. Not all facts are true. (3) Think honorable thoughts. These thoughts dwell on praise, worship, and thanksgiving. We are God s workmanship to which we owe only praise and thanksgiving. (4) Think just thoughts. All our thoughts should be without prejudice and bigotry. We are to think rightly and justly about all situations, giving everyone the same chance in our consideration of them. (p. 165) (5) Think untainted thoughts. Think thoughts from the Spirit, not mindless, vain meditation. (6) Have an eye for the beauty around you. Life is more than facts and statistics. There is beauty and artistic value in creation. We are to marvel at God s handiwork. We are to think like Jesus thought, which is different from the world. It takes discipline to become a healing church. The Power of Words Words carry power. All speech starts as a thought and manifested as words. Words have the power to
  • 42. Essay about Traveling Through the Dark by William Stafford Traveling Through the Dark by William Stafford In his poem, Traveling Through the Dark, William Stafford presents the reader with the difficulty of one man s choice. Immediately, the scene is set, with the driver, who is traveling though the dark (line 1) coming upon a recently killed deer. At first, his decision with what to do with the deer is easy; he knows he must push it off the edge for the safety of other motorists, but then, a closer examination of the deer reveals to the man new circumstances. His decision is now perplexing, and his course of action is unclear. Through his use of metaphor, symbolism, and personification, Stafford alludes to the difficult decisions that occur along the road of life, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The deceased deer is what forces the man to stop along the road, and death in general is what causes humans to stop along their path and take time to make decisions. One main way the theme of death is illustrated is through symbolism of the deer, canyon, and river. The deer is a roadblock which must be dealt with before the man can continue on his journey. He cannot simply push death to the side of the road. Here, the deer would rot and fester; instead, as Stafford states in the first stanza, it is usually best to roll them into the canyon (line 3). The way to deal with this problem is to discard of it immediately and to not hesitate at all. Literally, this is true for the safety of other motorists. Furthermore, it is necessary to deal properly with this problem so one can continue on their path in life. The canyon, and river at the bottom, therefore come to symbolize the depth of our individual souls; we push problems into our souls, and slowly deal with them. By doing this, our problems and death, may be symbolically washed away. Another way the decisions made when stopping along the road of life are symbolized is through Stafford?s use of the double entendre swerving (lines 4, 17). Literally, when explaining why the man should move the deer, Stafford writes, to swerve [in a car] might make more dead (line 4). This also refers to a swerve in
  • 43. The Impacts Of Population Growth Jingjing Zhang Instructor Shay Tschirhart ENGL 1311L 13 November 2015 The Impacts of Population Growth Throughout human history, population growth is one of the most important topics brought into discussion. Globally, there are about 7.2 billion people in the world, and it will rise up to 11 billion or more by the 21st century (Brown). When we look back in the history, population growth has been so slow as to be imperceptible within a single generation, Reaching a globally population of 1 billion in 1804 required the entire time since the humans appeared on the scene. To add the second billion, it took until 1927, just over 100 years. Thirty three years later, in 1960, world population reached 3 billion (Brown 15). Then the pace sped ... However, I would more rather believe that our ecological systems will self fix the population problems as the natural resource pressure and social pressure increase. The capacity of natural resources is one of the most essential information to indicate how many people would fit in this planet. Aquifers and river basins are two of the natural water resources that to supply drinking water, industry and agricultural irrigation. In the analysis report of the water supply and demand in the Colorado River Basin, water use from the Colorado River Basin has tripled since 1923, and started passing beyond the amount of water supply in 2000 (Katel). Since then, the reserved river resources became imbalanced and started decreasing every year. The rapidly growth of population and impropriated human activities are two of the main reasons that destroy the pervious balancing ecosystem. With the population growth increasing, the world will consume more water, grain, and food, and creating more wastes than before. In fact, there are around 70% of accessible fresh water to use globally in agricultural businesses and to produce grain to feed people and livestock, but 60% of this is wasted due to the leaky irrigation system and inefficient application of methods as
