Madan Mohan Malviya went to the Nizam of Hyderabad (who
happened to be one of the richest men the world at that time)
asking for a donation. The Nizam was annoyed at the gesture
and ﬂung his footwear at Madan. Madan picked up the footwear
and left silently. He came directly to the marketplace and began
to auction the footwear. When Nizam heard of this, he became
uneasy. He thought it would be an insult if his footwear were to
