The Education Of Medical Education
On May 16, 1769 at King s College, Doctor Samuel Bard begins his commencement speech to a small
group of gentlemen anxiously awaiting their graduation and immersion into the complex and elite
society of medical practitioners. One can assume great bursts of applause follow the ceremony, as the
institution releases the young men into the work field, unbeknownst to them what grueling education
their predecessors underwent and what curriculum aspiring young men of the near future would
endure. American medical education in the mid eighteenth to mid nineteenth centuries developed
greatly, from originally being lecture and humanities heavy to drawing on anatomical precisions and
scientific specialization. However, one cannot attribute these educational luxuries to only American
schools. English versions of medical education heavily influenced those of America, but American
schools would see developmental delays in methods of teaching and curriculum content compared to
their role models across the sea.
Some of the few, but major, components of the evolution of medical education include the method of
teaching (lecture versus clinical), core curriculum (humanities versus science), and accessibility of
resources (cadavers, facilities, etc.) Increasingly, and quite obviously, over the years, improvements in
medical technology, disease diagnosis, and human anatomy greatly contributed to this shift in medical
education. However, the turn of the nineteenth century marked great

I believe that its a Christmas movie and this is why I believe its a Christmas movie. Some people think
Nightmare before Christmas is a Halloween movie and some think it s a Christmas movie. However I
think Nightmare before Christmas is a Christmas movie because it s talking all about Christmas. First,
I think it s a Christmas movie because most of the songs are about Christmas. The songs are What s
this, Kidnap the sandy claws, Jacks obsession. The movie shows Santa Claus as Sandy Claws and one
of the songs are about him. I think it s a Christmas movie because most of the songs are about

Rise Of Buddhism Research Paper
The fifth and fourth centuries B.C. were times of a worldwide intellectual renaissance. It was an age
of great thinkers, thinkers like Socrates and Plato, Confucius and Lao Tzu. In India, it was the age of
the Buddha Shakyamuni, or simply the Buddha, after whose death a religion emerged that eventually
spread far beyond the reaches of its homeland. In order to understand Buddhism and its art we must
first know who the Buddha was.
Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as the Buddha, was born as a prince to the royal family
of Kapilavastu, whose kingdom was located in the Himalayan foothills. At the time of his birth, sages
predicted that he would become a universal conqueror, a conqueror of either the physical world or of
men s minds. It was the latter conquest that came to pass. Giving up the pleasures of the palace
Siddhartha went on to seek the true purpose of life, Siddhartha first attempted the path of severe
asceticism, only to abandon his efforts after six years, as it was a futile exercise. He then sat down in
yogic meditation beneath a banyan tree until he achieved enlightenment. He was known henceforth as
the Buddha, or Enlightened One.
Upon his death the Buddha requested that he be cremated and a memorial be built at a place where
people can gather. These memorials, which are known as Stupas, are the first example of Buddhist art.
At first these stupas were simple structures shaped like rounded mounds meant to represent the
curving form of the universe.

The Benefits of Extracurricular Activities for Students...
It is important for adolescents to participate in extracurricular activities. Student who participate in
these activities improve their academic scores and social life. Extracurricular activities can also help
reduce many peer pressure related problems. They enrich the lives of the students, their families and
our communities. These activities create well rounded children who learn what their interests and
talents are because they have been exposed to such opportunities (Extracurricular Activities,
Blogadmin). For most adolescents extracurricular activities should be required among what they do
outside of school. What are extracurricular activities? Extracurricular activities are those sponsored by
and usually held at school but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many activities also require a minimum grade point average (GPA) to join (Dowshen). This
requirement is a boost for most of the students to excel in school so they can participate in these
activities. Although extracurricular activities take up a lot of time they are worth the time that a
student puts into it (Extracurricular Activities). So why are extracurricular activities important?
Extracurricular activities shape how a person acts within him or herself, in the community, and their
performance in school. Schools should highly encourage every student to be in some type of activity
(Hollrah). Although extracurricular activities can help improve students academics, they can also have
a bad effect on how grades turn out. Extracurricular activities take time, and this can affect on how
much time the student has to complete home work or study (Wells). This can lead to a student doing
poorly on tests and in the big run, failing the class which will hurt the student college applications. If a
student that is involved in a sport is badly injured, this can affect the student because he or she is
missing school, and then all the work that is missed will have to be made up. Stress is also a big factor
that is put together with extracurricular activities. Stress can affect how the child does in school; if a
student is stressed out, they can get sick. Being sick requires the child to stay home and then they will

Effects of the Cold War in Nicaragua Essays
The Cold War was a period in history right after WWII ended and it ended in 1991, when the USSR
broke apart. The conflict was between two types of governments: the communists and the capitalism
(democrats). The USSR represented the communist side, while the U.S. represented the democrats.
Both countries had nuclear weapons and did not want to fight each other directly because they didn t
want a Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), so they fought through other countries, by Proxy Wars.
The global tensions in Cold War affected a few countries in a couple of regions, for example Central
America. The involvement of the United States aided Nicaragua economically, militarily, and
politically.

started recruiting farmers who were kicked out because of the new farming system that the Sandinistas

two groups in Honduras called the contras , or counter revolutionary forces. Reagan wanted to support
contras economically and he stated that quite openly; however, a lot of U.S. citizens did not like that.
During that time, in 1985, a war between Iran and Iraq took place. Even though the U.S. publicly
supported Iraq, the government also secretly assisted Iran. Among those years Iran asked the United
States for help with weaponry. It is illegal to sell weapons to the hostages but Regan still thought it
would help him and the U.S. One of the reasons why he did it was because he wanted to take control
in the problematic Middle East and selling weapons to Iran would improve the relations with Iran and
Lebanon. At the same time Reagan wanted to free the seven hostages that were held by Iranian
terrorist and even though he strongly supported the rule of not negotiating with terrorists, he broke the
rule by supplying Iran with weapons. After receiving money from Iran, Regan sponsored contras using
that money. The United States had also supplied the contras with weapons and equipment. After the
clandestine deal between the two countries was published in the

Pttm s Pathological Determortem Diagnosis
PTTM is a highly fatal, rare complication from metastatic carcinoma. Von Herbay et al. first described
the disease in 1990 after a review of 630 consecutive autopsy cases of carcinoma (8). Of the 21 cases,
gastric carcinoma was the most prevalent. Although less prevalent, malignancies of lung, breast,
prostate, and colon, among others were noted during the study (8). An antermortem diagnosis is
challenging due to the rapidly progressive pulmonary hypertension and right side heart failure.
However, PTTM has pathological, radiological, and clinical characteristics that can help aid an
antermortem diagnosis. In order to assess PTTM s pathological characteristics antermortem, a lung
biopsy is required. A histological assessment from a lung biopsy is the most accurate method of
diagnosis; however, the patients are usually too hypoxic upon discovery to perform a lung biopsy. In
which case, a pathological diagnosis can only be made postmortem. Although, antermortem and
postmortem investigations will inspect for the same determining factors histologically. PTTM is
defined by the activation of fibroceullular intimal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several cases of PTTM have shown distinct radiological imaging characteristics that should be used to
influence a diagnosis. The mediastinal views of a chest CT angiogram should indicate multiple
mediastinal and hilar lymphadenopathies, along with right side heart failure displayed from the
flattening of the interventricular septum (4, 5). Centrilobular nodules and tree in bud images are also
radiological indicators of PTTM (4). Additionally, the chest CT angiogram should not show signs of a
pulmonary embolism, which is a common suspicion during the clinical investigation of PTTM (2, 3).
However, radiological characteristics are not as definitive as pathological aspects and should be
coupled with high suspicion from clinical characteristics

Effective Cold Sore Home Remedies
It may be your time to try cold sore home remedies after other formal treatments have not fully solved
the problem. These sores are such a nuisance they go for a season and come back a gain. This time, I
thing we need more determined or robust home remedies for cold sores to deal with this.
Cold sores, sometimes called fever blisters, are small blisters that come up around the mouth and
nostrils.
They usually appear toward the end of a cold. The virus that causes cold sores is known as herpes
simplex virus. Most of us have natural immunity that enables us to keep it under control.

L lysine is a major booster
There is an amino acid called arginine which helps the herpes virus to multiply. This arginine can be
conquered by another amino acid called L lysine which prevents the cold sores to spread. This L
lysine, is an essential amino acid which is necessary for human health but the body can t manufacture
it; it has to be gotten from food.
Use the L lysine vitamins and supplements as suggested by the label. The dosages vary for a new

In 1995 and 1996 the judicial systems around the world realized that there was a problem with

I Introduction
The de centralization of electronic discovery (e discovery) rules (laws) brings challenges when
searching for evidence in Electronically Stored Information (ESI), both nationally and internationally.
If a litigation case covers more than one jurisdiction a lawyer will need to be hired that knows each
particular jurisdiction. The reason that a lawyer familiar with that particular United States (US) district
court, from herein referred to as districts; will need to be hired, is due to the differences in the local
rules throughout the districts. To summarize David Canfield (2012), several states have adopted new
civil procedures since the 2006 Amendments that may be incorporated in the Federal rules for future
amendments (Canfield, 2012, p.p. 1 2). District judges play an active role in tailoring e discovery
needs to individual cases (Allman, T., 2013) and the local adoption of federal rules cause inconsistent
rules throughout the country is the cause of these differences (Allman, T., 2013). Regulations that

Dogtown And Z-Boys Analysis
Skateboarding was created as an extension of surfing in 1950 s and 1960 s. This style was viewed as a
graceful sport, but lacked legitimate attention from the public, leading to its inevitable decline in
popularity. Former Zephyr team member, Stacy Peralta showcases the resurrection of skateboarding
by presenting the audience the experiences the Zephyr skateboarding team in his documentary,
Dogtown and Z Boys (2001). The Zephyr team (also known as the Z Boys) were the pioneers of
modern skateboarding. The documentary and film conventions used in Peralta s documentary are
deliberately chosen to evoke certain responses from the audience. Respect, admiration, idolisation and
criticism are the main responses Peralta tries to convey to the audience. ... Show more content on

Franz Kafka s A Hunger Artist And The Metamorphosis
Self insertion, a literary device in which a character who is the real author of a work of fiction appears
as a character within fiction, either overtly or in disguise. Imagine yourself being unable to obtain the
recognition of your parents your whole life and leaving this world as a nobody. The writings of Franz
Kafka not only spoke of the absurdity of life, but also about who he was. They told about what type of
human being he was, and how he was feeling. You can see this in both of his well known short stories,
A Hunger Artist and The Metamorphosis. I believe that there is a personal link between author and
character and that it can be found in most of his works.
Franz Kafka was born on July 3, 1883, in Prague. The writer grew up in a middle class Jewish family
and studied law at the University of Prague. By the time Kafka was six he had lost his two younger
brothers, they were only infants, leaving Franz as the only boy in the family. This tragedy shaped the
family for the rest of their lives. Growing up Kafka s relationship with his parents suffered, neither of
them supporting his desire of become a writer. Hermann Kafka, Franz s father, was a forceful man and
made it apparent throughout the household. Kafka s father had a profound impact on both Kafka s life
and writing. He was a tyrant of sorts, with a wicked temper and little appreciation for his son s
creative side ( Franz Kafka. Bio. A E Television Networks). Although it was difficult to get along with

Pros And Cons Of Oral History
Oral history has been a vital source of historical and important information since the beginning of
human interaction. Recordings and one on one interviews with someone who lived through a certain
time period or particular event can often provide a substantial amount of information and evidences on
a subject that one may be researching. Unfortunately oral history does has its flaws, and it does not
always provide the best source of information. Often information from direct interviews and other
forms of oral history can be misinterpreted and inaccurate. There are quite a few pros and cons when
using oral history as a source of evidence. These pros includes first hand accounts of a certain event,
person, and/or time period, next access to information not available in books, articles, or journals, and
finally oral history allows for different views and opinions on a subject matter the opportunity to be
heard that otherwise wouldn t. There also are several cons when using oral history as a source of
evidence. As mention earlier information from oral history can and has often been misinterpreted and
inaccurate. Another con includes biases and ideology differences effecting personal accounts of an
event or person. The final con is the creditability of the actually source. In the Hochschild book and
the interview with Stalin s daughter, these pros and cons are present. Having a first hand account of a
historical event or person can be extremely useful. Someone from a

The Theme Of Inequality In The United States
Some people experience life harder than others. Many people have to work extra hard to get the same
recognition or respect than their peers. Whether someone has a disadvantage due to their race, sex,
economic position, religious affiliation, disability, employment status, etc., they suffer prejudice due to
this and, therefore, must find a way to get their voices heard and flee from bigoted hate. While this
prevailed more during the last centuries and decreased since the 1960 s, intolerance still exists on a
worldwide level, especially anti black racism in the USA. It prevailed as one of the most predominant
types of inequality in the USA. As a result, many African Americans tried as hard as they could to get

The Importance Of Cultural Awareness In Georgia
Introduction Cultural awareness is a useful base for human communication and constitutes the
aptitude to become aware of what values, believes or perceptions are found within our culture. Culture
awareness helps understand why things are done in a certain way and how we perceive other cultures
and in what ways we are supposed to act when in a particular situation (Schein and Edgar, 13). Culture
includes marriages, religion, music and dance, education, dressing, language among many other
aspects. The world is made up many different cultures and cultural awareness is important to enhance
understanding and respect for other cultures (Schein and Edgar, 14). Culture awareness is important in
all areas including in security. It is common for countries to send their armed forces for missions to
various parts of the world where culture is completely different. Therefore, it is important to
understand the various cultures and societies from these different countries which is very important for
successful missions (Schein and Edgar, 16). This paper is therefore going to discuss in details culture
awareness in Georgia. Georgia s Physical Geography and Military Conflicts in Georgia Complex
Terrain Georgia is a mountainous country as it is found in the Great Caucasus Mountains in the north

The Diabetes Association The Blood Glucose Level Should Be...
A portable glucose measuring device is a meter that displays the amount of sugar in your blood. What
is glucose? Glucose is sugar that your body uses as a source of energy. You should use this device if
you have diabetes or if you need to monitor your sugar level. The device can help you determine what
you need to do to stabilize the levels and know if your levels can be dangerous threat to your health.
The American Diabetes Association the blood glucose level should be below 100mg/dL before meals
and less than 140mg/dL after without diabetes.
The term diabetes was first coined by Araetus of Cappodocia in Ancient Greece (81 133AD). The
horrific disease was described by Araetus as A wonderful affection being a melting down of the flesh
and limbs into urine. The patient never stops drinking water but the 373). During the time of Araetus,
there was nothing that could be done to help the patient with flow is incessant as if from the opening
of the aqueducts. The patient is short lived. (Ahmed, this disease. As noted by Araetus, life lasts only
for a time, but not very long.
The portable glucose measuring device is a quantitative test. A quantitative test is that you will find
out the amount of glucose in your body. How does the test work? You poke your finger with a lancet
to get a drop of blood. Then you place the blood on the test strip that will be inserted into the device.
After that, the test has chemicals that react with the electricity that passes through the

The Meaning Of Being Chinese And Chinese Immigrants
Immigration brings uncertainty, tensions between the past and present, and alterations in identity due
to acculturation as shown through Leon and other characters in Bone. In the psychological study, The
Meaning of Being Chinese and Being American : Variation among Chinese American Young Adults,
the correlation between the Chinese immigrating to the United States abridging Chinese and American
cultures varied based on their age of immigration and the duration of their time in the United States,
demonstrating that immigration provides a multifaceted experience for each individual. Chinese
immigrants who immigrated over the age of twelve, like Mah and Leon, present an anchored identity
as Chinese, but have to adapt through consciously engaging in American culture to survive. Leon
distances himself from his frustrations of living in America by going out to sea, evading Chinatown a
reminder of Ona s death , and by distracting himself in project inventions without any intentions of
completing them. Then, Mah immerses herself in work and relationships, including her affair with
Tommie Ham and her over involvement in her daughters lives. Chinese immigrants who immigrated
under the age of twelve, like Leila, are placed in the position of mediating between Chinese and
American cultures; they experience less certainty on which culture to identify with and often have to
consciously act to become a part of either. In her conversation with Nina, Leila reflects on how Nina s

Socrates And Louis Riel
Throughout history, great minds have used situational platforms like trials to advance their ideas to
large audiences. Socrates and Louis Riel are no exception to this and used their respected trials as a
means of conveying a final political statement. This is evident in both Plato s The Trial and Death of
Socrates and Hans V. Hansen s Reil s Defense: Perspectives on his Speeches. Both men s speeches can
be seen as weak examples of forensic rhetoric and strong examples of political rhetoric due to the fact
that Socrates and Riel both believed in a divine mission and cause much larger than themselves. It is
clear that neither man set out to win their trial, and I argue that both Socrates and Riel s speeches were
intended to politically inspire as they both saw themselves as martyrs for a greater cause.
Socrates trial speech can be considered one of the most important examples of political rhetoric in
history. Socrates was brought before the courts on charges of impiety and corrupting the youth of
Athens because of his teachings and the politico philosophic questions he posed to his students. At the
time Socrates was 70 and could have easily fled Athens with the help of his supporters however he
chose to stay in Athens to face the legal consequences of his actions. Socrates had no intention of
winning his trial, as Brumbaugh notes Socrates was not arrested [...] but was summoned to the court of
the First Archon to file his answer to the charges against him (pg.232,

Internationalization of General Motors
Internationalization of General Motors This paper examines the expansion of General Motors overseas
in its various phases, as well as triggers for internationalization and the problems faced during the
process. The paper also considers what benefits have been achieved through international growth, and
how the company can be classified with regards to Bartlett and Ghosal s 4 typologies. Finally, the
paper discusses the concept of a world car, meeting the demands of customers across the globe.

The oil crises of the same period did not help improve the situation by shifting consumer preferences
towards the more reliable and economical Japanese alternatives. GM responded not via their
traditional method of acquisition, but rather by creating alliances with Isuzu, Suzuki and Toyota

adopted another strategy: globalization, aimed at integrating operations at an higher level. GM s
ultimate goal from the 1990s was to produce a World Car, as announced through their Master Plan in
1996 (Bordenave and Lung, 2002). The idea was to cut costs and achieve greater economies of scale
by halving the number of car platforms from 14 to 7, and sharing these platforms as well as parts
among the various brands within the General Motors family. In reality, however, this programme
failed.due to regional differences, such as Europe and Asia preferring smaller, diesel powered cars as
opposed to the large, petrol engined models of North America. GM was thus forced to continue
supplying different models to their various markets around the world. | | |1992 : Senior management

Unfolding Test Essay
chapter{Unfolding Tests}label{ch:UnfTest}
In order to measure the performance of the D Agostini 2010 unfolding algorithm, and to compare it
with other algorithms, we have developed an unfolding test suite.
The main inputs of these tests are the MC microtree file and the algorithm to be tested. Where, The
microtree is a ROOT~cite{ROOT} file generated by our main analysis software,
HighLAND~cite{HighLAND}, containing all the necessary information about the events that entered
the selection process.
First, knowing the signal definition, and the binning for the truth and reconstructed variable
distribution, we process the microtree file to build the truth and reconstructed signal histograms, as
well as the smearing matrix.
Then, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cref{fig:UnfTest_CoverageBins} shows the bin by bin coverage at 95% CL, of the unfolded
{color{red} four bins} momentum distribution of the electron antineutrino.
subsection{Simultaneous Coverage}
We rely on the empirical simultaneous coverage with Bonferroni correction, cf.~cite[Section 5.2.2]
{KuuselaShapeConstraint}, for the whole histogram.
The Bonferroni correction accounts for the increase of type I errorfootnote{Type I error is rejecting
the hypothesis while it is true.} of multiple coverage tests, one per bin, by decreasing the significance
level of each test to be $frac{alpha}{n}$, where $alpha$ is the type I error level per bin and n is the
total number of bins in the histogram.
Consequently, the confidence interval for each bin is then given by
begin{equation}
text{confidence interval} = big[hat{lambda}_k z_{1 frac{alpha}{2n}} sqrt{text{Var}
(hat{lambda}_k)}, ; hat{lambda}_k + z_{1 frac{alpha}{2n}} sqrt{text{Var}
(hat{lambda}_k)} big],
end{equation}
where, $hat{lambda}_k$ is the expected value of the unfolded histogram for bin k, ${Var}
(hat{lambda}_k)$ is its variance and $z_{1 frac{alpha}{2n}} $ is the standard normal quantile.
The simultaneous coverage test passes, if the coverage test for all the bins passes at the modified
significance level. The result of the simultaneous coverage test is shown in

The Enlightenment Research Paper
In this essay, my main focus will be on the relationship between the ideas of the enlightenment and the
development of sociology as an academic subject.
The enlightenment, which is also known as the age of reason is the name given to an important period
in the history of western civilization. Enlightenment is often defined as a man s emergence from his
self incurred immaturity. Enlightenment was the period during the 17th 18th century, when people saw
the growth of modern science and a new faith in the power of reason and the improvement of the
human condition. The developments took place in Germany, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands,
Italy, Spain and Portugal. The society increased through much of Europe, as well as Russia and
Scandinavia plus the United States. The enlightenment was a time where the human ability to reason
was glorified.
The Era was given the name enlightenment , because it was a time when an influential group actively
sought to use the clear life of reason that is rational thought to rid the world of superstition and
ignorance. The influential group included:
John Locke 1632 1704
Isaac Newton 1642 1727
David Hume 1711 1776
JJ Rousseau 1712 1778
Adam Smith 1723 1790

(In Fulcher Scotts 1999 extract) It states that Enlightenment thinking led to scientific ideas . People
started to understand their own actions and how the society functions. Enlightenment thinkers
influenced the founding fathers of sociology because the founding fathers have embedded and
expanded on the ideas proposed by some enlightenment thinkers for example, the concept of tolerating
other beliefs and letting people think for their selves rather than people being dictated to (Craib 1997).
According to (Giddens 1989) he believed that sociology is an investing action of a group of life, as
well as societies. Individualism is

Comparison Of Cormac Mccarthon In KnoxvilleSummer 1915
The city of Knoxville, Tennessee, located in the Smokey Mountains, was established in 1792, and was
named after Henry Knox, president Washington s Secretary of war. Not only is this city located in the
Smokies, but it also houses many famous attractions such as the Knoxville Zoo, the Tennessee theatre,
old historic Knoxville, and the Sunsphere. Many authors came from this city, and among these are
Cormac Mccarthy, who wrote Suttree in May, 1979, and James Agee, who wrote Knoxville: Summer
1915 in 1957. Both authors relayed the tone of their passages well, a communal tone for Agee and
venomous for Mccarthy, but only one expressed their tone the best. This author was Mccarthy who
established his tone, venomous, through his use of diction throughout the excerpt.
The tone of Knoxville:Summer,1915 by Agee is communal. This is shown where Agee states, ...that of
the father of the families, each in his space of lawn...the hoses were set very much alike...the sound
therefore was pitched much alike...it is habitual to summer nights, and is of the great deal of noise..but
the men by now one by one have silenced their hoses... The quote supports the topic sentence by
showing how the whole community started and stopped watering their grass at about the same time.
The excerpt also shows how they worked like clockwork and were always in sync with one another.
Another piece of text that also supports the tone of communalism is where Agee states, There were

Ethics Is A Theory Of Proper Moral Conduct
Shaudee Houshmand
Professor Basil
PHIL 1
13 December 2015
Final Paper
Ethics
Ethics derives from the Greek word ethos which means character. Essentially ethics is a theory of
proper moral conduct. Essentially, in ethics one is trying to make a distinction between what is the
case between what ought to be the case. A key player in ethics is the moral agent. A moral agent is a
person that has an ability to reflect on moral issues. Moral actions conform to the law and immoral
actions do not conform to the law.
Relativism
Ethical relativist deny any objective moral values. Cultural relativism explains that in different times
and in different places people act in different ways; they acquire different values and ideas of what is
morally right and wrong. Moral relativism explains that there are no moral absolutes; everyone can do
what they please and how they want whenever they like.
James Rachels believes in cultural relativism. There are many different arguments first, Different
cultures have different moral codes, therefore there is no objective truth in morality, right and wrong
are only matters of opinion and opinions vary from culture to culture (Rachels). This means that right
and wrong are opinions and those opinions vary from cultures. This argument is not valid for cultural
relativism. Just because different cultures have different moral codes, it does not follow that there is
no objective truth for morality. Some of Rachels s arguments for moral relativism are: if

Hyperboles In The Odyssey
Homer first utilizes hyperboles to express the hazard of the situation that Odysseus and his men face.
One of Odysseus men Eurylochus is the first one to face Circe s wrath as when one of the men
manages to escape her lair. He then recounts the perilous adventure to the rest of the men,
demonstrating the precariousness of the situation but his prevailing wit to stay back and not be
seduced by Circe s advances. This riskiness of the situation is first demonstrated Eurylochus comes
back to the men on the ship in tears numbing sorrow had stunned [him] to silence tears welled in his
eyes, his heart possessed by grief (272 273). Homer uses alliteration in sorrow stunned and silence
that demonstrates the strong desolation and overall emotional pain that Eurylochus felt, after ... Show

Primarily, Hermes informs Odysseus of his men s dire situation and Circe s potential harm. Firstly,
Homer uses imagery to depict that Odysseus men have been changed in form as Circe decided to turn
them into pigs: ...Your men are all in there, in Circe s palace, cooped like swine, hock by jowl in the
sties, (312 313). Here the reader can picture how squished the men are together and there is once again
a hint at the potential risk Odysseus could be in because he could be turned into a swine like the rest of
his men were. Finally, Hermes departs with fair warning by saying but have her swear the binding
oath of the blessed gods she ll never plot some new intrigue to harm you (331 333). This dialogue
shows the potential harm Circe could cause if Odysseus doesn t make her swear the oath and shows
that the oath is a binding agreement of some sort between a god and an epic hero when an epic hero is

Integrated Criteria Decision Making And Multi Criteria...
Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Research Report CS6705 Prioritized Multi Criteria Decision
Making and Multi Criteria Aggregation By Rizwan Umaid Ali Student # 3494784 Multi Criteria
decision making (MCDM) is an area of Artificial Intelligence which provides capabilities to assess
complex decision problems. The decisions can depend on our preferences of some criteria over others.
In this report, we analyze formulations of MCDM and Multi Criteria Aggregation. To further
understand this, we also see how we calculate prioritized measure of Multi Criteria Aggregation and
its Shapley index. Introduction For a modern application, reaching satisfaction can depend upon
several criteria. Each criteria in it can be satisfied to reach an optimal result, but in real world
scenarios satisfying every criteria is impossible and even not required. For example, if a bill needs to
be passed by an executive committee, we will need only half of the committee s approval to pass it.
This leads us to think that we can reach satisfaction with any set of members of the committee. In fact,
there are several cases where certain criteria have a higher priority than others and satisfaction cannot
be reached without them. For instance, if the president of the executive committee has to approve the
bill and other members just have to favour it, then the president will dominate the other criteria. To
logically state this we can say Satisfy criterion A and if possible satisfy criterion B . We

Symbolism In A Prayer For Owen Meany
John Irving s 1989 novel A Prayer for Owen Meany features a decades spanning narrative that jumps
around in time, describing the life and journey of faith of Johnny Wheelwright. John s life is
intertwined with that of his childhood friend Owen Meany, a precocious and strange character whose
effect on John s world can t be understated. Throughout the novel, reoccurring symbols are used to
emphasize the themes of fate, faith, and spirituality. What is interesting about the symbolism in this
novel is how Irving utilizes it. The symbols aren t just there for the reader to recognize and interpret,
they strengthen the overall story. By making one of the major themes fate (and predestination), Irving
makes his use of symbolism a potent facet; every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Modern Media And Technology Conditions The Public Mind
More than ever before, technology has infused itself into our everyday life and tasks. As our dominant
mean of obtaining any information possible at any time you desire, it is an irrefutable fact that modern
media and technology conditions the public mind. How it does so, is not so obvious. Today s media
affects everyone, individually and as a general populace. Individually, medias such as Instagram,
Facebook, Tumblr, etc. change our perception of reality by presenting us versions of people that are
made to seem beyond the norm in some way; outrageously beautiful, unique, talented, etc.on a regular
basis. These repeated ideals of what the norm should be or what should be desired creates a warped
perception of reality.(Enzenberg ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a consequence, people associate their best self with their digital identity, who ultimately isn t who
they are ,causing a drastic disconnect from one s actual self and who they are online. This disconnect
causes an internal dissatisfaction with every aspect of ourselves that turns into something much worse
than just a low self esteem. Anxiety, depression, and addiction have all been results of this, as proven
with the BFAS Berge Facebook Addiction Scale and Facebook Depression .(Jennifer Van Pelt, MA)
Furthermore, there is power in repetition and how it affects the subconscious mind incredibly. The idea
of what qualifies as desirable is incessantly forced into our minds by television, magazines, etc. Thus
the images portrayed are normalized. As in, this is the normal idea of what beautiful, the normal idea
of what talent is,this is what you want or who you want to be like ,etc. Thigh gaps, accentuated

of beauty and what should be desired. However, when watching television or flipping through a
magazine, it goes unnoticed that a majority of these people do not look like

games far more than anyone thought was possible. Plus with the Video Game Crash of 1983, Nintendo

Background/Crime Scene:
On the evening of November 26th, 2000 a sixteen year old girl named Leanne Tiernan went missing.
She was walking back from shopping with her friend and took a shortcut back home. Not until 9
months later in August of 2001 was her body found. A man walking his dogs in Lindley Woods found
her body. Her body was in a shallow grave. Over her was a duvet cover that had a floral pattern. She
was wrapped in ten plastic green bags with twine wrapped around them to keep them together. She
had three cable ties around her wrists one yellow on one wrist, one black on the other, and a second

Wiltshire it was a perfect match. There were two bonfires, everything that she found in Leanne s hair

arch way. There was either a plum or damson tree but Wiltshire was unable to say because no flowers
or fruit were on it. There were weeds everywhere as well. Due to all of the evidence she was able to

America s Strategic Thinkers Who Think Asia Essay
This essay s topic required to evaluate the opinion that the US s strategic thinkers who think Asia is
more important than the Middle East, are said to be not understanding the situation of the States in
today s international context, and the affections onto its interests. Considering the importance of the
Middle East to Asia will be the focus of this paper, in which the writer agreed with the assumption.
Moreover, there will be reasons why the Middle East is still more important than Asia, along with
comparison for each. And by the end of this essay, with backing from the main part, the conclusion
will be able to show the supports for the mentioned opinion.
To begin, we will start with the historical background of the US with the Middle East and Asia (mostly
the US and the Middle East), in order to set a fundamental understanding.

the relation with Russia), and the upholding of certain principles. (Tillman, 1982, p. 62) The United

Supraspinatus Tendonitis Essay
Supraspinatus tendonitis typically occurs when there is an impingement of the supraspinatus muscle of
the shoulder joint between the acromion as it passes by the acromion and humerus head. In response,
the supraspinatus tendon and the contiguous peritendinous soft tissues become inflamed. The
supraspinatus is a muscle located in the supraspinatus fossa of the scapula located in the shoulder and
is largely affected by supraspinatus tendonitis. The supraspinatus allows for the abduction of the
shoulder and its insertion is the greater tuberosity of the humerus. Tendonitis is the inflammation of a
tendon and commonly occurs in the elbows, knees, and shoulders. Therefore, supraspinatus tendonitis
is the inflammation of the supraspinatus. This condition is a very common inflammatory problem
because it can be caused by the abduction of the arm, which is involved in many sports and activities.

condition occurs more often in athletes and active individuals, people who are between 30 to 60 years

supraspinatus tendinosis, which is when there is chronic degeneration without any inflammation. This

Descartes Was A Philosopher That Did Not Take Any Truth
Descartes was a philosopher that did not take any truth without questioning it. This is key in truly
understanding the world around us. A real seeker of truth must doubt everything once in their lifetime.
Without doubt, we have no reason. Without reason, we cannot hold any truths to be correct. Descartes
truly understood how the rudiments vested in us by an infinite power play a powerful role in the way
we live today.
1. What is your initial point of view?
My initial point of view is that in order to seek the truth, we must doubt. In doubting, we critically
analyze the reason behind our thought process. What exactly makes a piece of wax that piece of wax?
Is it even wax? We must doubt even the simplest of truths in order to reach a higher state of knowing.
2. How can you define your point of view more clearly?
I can define my point of view more clearly by defining truth and doubt. Truth can be defined as an
idea that holds certainty and be able to question and analyze. Doubt can be defined as uncertainty with
a questionable premise.
3. What is an example of your point of view?
An example of my point of view is in Descartes most noted wax example. We take into consideration
a piece of wax, which has a color, shape, size, and will emit a sound. Once we burn the wax,
everything changes. We don t question that it is the same wax, though. But why? How do we know
that it is the same wax? Descartes did exactly this, and concluded that what he saw he grasped solely

unity of our great country. We have been in a storm of chaos, wanting change, fearing that we will
divide once again, but we will stand firm together to fight for peace and equality. For way too long,
have the capital of our great nation taken the rewards of our government while the people suffer the
cost. Washington has thrived, but the people do not get to share in its success. While we celebrate our
nation s great success, there is still little to celebrate as for struggling families of our nation s, but this
all can change starting right here right now because this is your moment, your spotlight, and your
triumphs. What truly matters right

The Importance Of The Hollywood Star System
There is no doubt that Hollywood is an industry based on selling movies and what sells movies better
than the marketing of a Hollywood star. An actor or actress can not only make movies successful, but
in addition their images are also profitable. The Hollywood Star System has been very profitable for
Hollywood and contributed to saving Hollywood in the late 1920s and 1930s when studios found it
financially hard to survive. Once Hollywood realized their star s had financial power there was no
stopping the lengths they would go to in order to sell their star s persona.
The Hollywood Star System originated during the Studio System in which actors and actress were
signed to long term contracts with the studios. Moreover, studios understood that the actor s public
persona was profitable. Studios invested heavily in the actor s public image or persona that they
wanted the public to perceive. Studios had contractual morality clauses that outlined an actor s
behavior so as to not tarnish the image that the studio was promoting. Therefore, the star system was
an economic boon to the studios and this style of contract system lasted from the 1920s to the early
1960s (Star, 2017). However, this left the actors feeling more like a commodity, than actual people or
employees, which created a contentious relationship between the studios and the stars that represented
them. This atmosphere often led to public power struggles , when actors challenged the studios in an
attempt to have

Listening To Sounds Analysis
Upon finishing listening to what was my first podcast ever, it did not necessarily change my thoughts
about noise of modern life. This is because I am and have always been an appreciator of the simple
things in life. For example, I am the type of person who will sit in an airport and just think about the
fact that in this one place where there are a multiple number of people, each of them has their own
life. Each of these lives are being carried out all at the same time, and each of those lives are filled
with different experiences, different losses, different gains, they have each had a vulnerable moment
and a moment where they were filled with love and more importantly each of them has their own
story. Each of these people have their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best thing about the noise in our society is that although there is a negative effect in situations of
the ability to listen to personal music, there is also a positive side which encompasses the same thing.
The reason that most of us listen to our own music is not only possibly a sub conscious effort to
seclude ourselves from other around us, but also because we want to please ourselves by listening to
sounds or music we like. Therefore, one example of how noise in our society promotes
communication would be when a group of strangers are somewhere and here the new Taylor Swift
song that they all love, they catch themselves singing and dancing to it, simultaneously noticing the
others doing the same which breaks that barrier of being strangers by making them realize they have
something in common. This later leads to them speaking to each other and possibly beginning a
relationship. Similarly, from a more fundamental perspective sounds as simple as someone chopping
wood outside, singing in the shower in the morning, or the sound of a jump rope hitting the pavement
as little kids play, all play in the role of promoting communication; all you have to do is listen for

Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Essay
Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Nowadays, stereotypes seem to be the way we justify
and categorize society. It can also be said that stereotypes are one way in which we define the world in
order to see it. Because, if the world isn t defined, then how can we as people, grasp the concept of it?
How do we justify our action, and those of others? People often, prejudge others or objects by
grouping them into categories or styles they are familiar with, and then treat them by their experiences
or just follow what other people usually do, without questioning their actions and motives. That causes
miscommunication, argument or losing opportunities to broaden the life experience. Stereotypes are
usually formed based on an individual s appearance, race, and gender that would put labels on people.
The appearance of a person in general is one of the most important causes of stereotypes. People
usually tend to stereotype a person from what they see and think. In Brent Staples Just Walk On By: A
Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space, he experienced a certain stereotype from a white
woman because of his appearance. He explained, To her, the youngish black man a broad six feet two
inches with a bread and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket
seemed menacing close (Staples 394). That white woman labeled Staples as a dangerous person who
might hurt her, so she ran away as soon as she could. In other words, people

Cyber Criminals, Thieves, And Terrorism
Every day, hospitals in the United States and around the world are working long hours in responding
to emergencies, attending patients, delivering newborn babies, performing surgeries, and foremost
saving lives. Not too long ago, cyberspace has given institutions such as hospitals the tools to
accumulate and file as much information and data as possible in this great space of technology,
networks, and systems. Information such as patient s information, treatments, machinery, as well as
having a better way to have a secure place to store them and have authorization in accessing them.
However, such tools had been used as weapons by those who want to have access and possession of
such critical information and control by cyber criminals, thieves, and terrorists. Unfortunately, it s not
simple to live in a world in which laws can just simply protect institutions that help save lives. Rather,
hospitals have fallen as victims of cyberattacks.
On the evening of February 5th, at Los Angeles, California, doctors and staff from Hollywood
Presbyterian Medical Center, noticed several technical issues while trying to access the hospital s
computer network. The hospital s IT department was notified, and they began their investigation to
determine the cause of these issues. However, these issues carried on for approximately a week, which
was a frustration for doctors and staff members because they were unable to digitally access patient s
medical records and treatments, communication via

Rise and Fall of the Romanov Dynasty
The Romanov Dynasty held the Russian Empire as one of the most powerful European states for over
three centuries. In 1917, during Nicholas II s contradictory reign, a revolution began that transformed
the empire into the first ever communist nation, replacing the infamous autocratic rule and introducing
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
The Russian people were ruled by an autocratic government since 1613 when the Romanov Dynasty
began. The government was run by the Tsar who had unlimited power over the rest of Russia. The
Tsar set up a system of government involving an imperial council, a small cabinet of ministers and a
senate; all of which were implemented as personal advisers and delegates. The Tsar had control over

By 1916, dissatisfaction within Russian monarch had reached boiling point. Rasputin was murdered
by the Tsar s own cousins and the majority of the parliament and upper classes were no longer willing
to meet expectations of loyalty, respect and patriotism.
Even though the Russian Revolution transpired quite suddenly, the foundations of it may have started
centuries earlier. Since the 1700s, the ideas of European regime had begun to influence the minds of
Russian citizens. Lower classes began to believe in democratic rights and equality, newspapers and
books spread concepts about universal rights and many believed in a future with a just ruler and a
more cultured society.
From the 1800s, the Russian monarchy gradually became weaker and increasingly fragile. After the
death of Alexander I in 1825, a group of Decembrists made up of thousands of soldiers seized
advantage of a succession issue and demanded reforms plus a written constitution. This displayed a
hint of light and prompted many to rethink the government system and their place within the
hierarchy. Then after the death of Nicholas I in 1855, Alexander II rose to power and was referred to
as the great liberator after emancipating the Russian serfs in 1861. While the act earned Alexander
public affection and respect, it angered landowners, created an economic crisis and also

Economies Of Brazil, Russia, India, And China
BRIC is an acronym for the economies of Brazil, Russia, India, and China combined, originally
projected to be the fastest growing market economies by Jim O Neill of Goldman Sachs first in 2001,
but most prominently in a follow up paper published in 2003 (( Brazil, Russia, India, and China BRIC,
n.d.). The Goldman Sachs thesis states they, Brazil, Russia, India, and China, have the potential to
form a powerful economic bloc ( Brazil, Russia, India, and China BRIC, n.d.). Just thirty prior, Brazil,
Russia, India, and China were all struggling in some fashion. Brazil was dealing with over inflation.
Russia was behind the Iron Curtain. India made the mistake of kicking IBM and Coca Cola out of
their country, and China was in recovery mode from the Cultural Revolution. Now, each of these
countries are on the rise, and China is likely surpass the United States by having the World s largest
economy. One thing that these countries have in common are low labor and production costs. Due to
lower labor and production costs, many companies also cite BRIC as a source of foreign expansion
opportunity, and promising economies in which to invest ( Brazil, Russia, India, and China BRIC,
n.d.). There is no doubt Brazil, Russia, India, and China all have powerful economies that are
currently busting at the seams. . The likely evolution of the BRICs is one filled with economic growth
and rapid expansion. All of the BRICs are on the verge of rapid market growth. In fact, they all

Extend School Year
Extend the School Year, Extend Opportunities I m bored. There s nothing to do! These words are
echoed many times during the summer by teenagers and children around America. Hours are wasted
away wandering mindlessly around the house, sitting in front of a television screen, or simply sleeping
to make the time pass by faster. Meanwhile, across the world students are spending their time in
school studying and getting ahead, while America is continually dropping in its rankings. The aches
and pains of boredom during the seemingly endless summer could be put to a stop by simply making
the school year longer. Furthermore, other positive changes would be seen by lengthening the learning
season. By extending both the primary and secondary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Across America, the few schools that have already extended the school year have all reported similar
and positive results. This evidence alone should be enough to change the federal law to increase the
minimum number of days in a school year. Because of the direct relationship shown between the
length of the school year and international academic rankings and the constructive changes seen in
schools in America with longer school years, the ineffective structure of the American school calendar
should be modified as to make the school year longer, helping Americans succeed and compete
globally with other leading countries. Not only is America s diminutive academic school year
restricting the US s global competitiveness, but the structure of the school year is very ineffective,
especially the long summer break. First of all, long summer vacations were not even intended for
today s American society. The original purpose of an extended summer vacation was for children to
help their family tend to their farms in America s past agricultural society. Now that America is no
longer an agricultural society, but rather post industrial, the long vacation is pointless and actually
detrimental (Summer Vacation is No Longer Necessary). Unlike America, most advanced nations have
adapted to their changing societies and offer

White Supremacists
The removal of Confederate monuments in some cities has stirred up intense controversy because of
white supremacist protesting the removal of the statues. These white supremacist are protesting the
removal of the statues because when they think of the Confederacy they think back in history when
the whites are firmly in control. So that s how the thought of believing whites should have more power
over all other races started. Another reason why white supremacists want to keep the statutes is
because they believe that by removing the statues, you re erasing the south s history. They say the
history of the south is being erased. Memorials like the one to Lee honor the bravery of the
southerners who did battle in the Civil War, they say.

Andrew Carnegie Gospel Of Wealth
Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish immigrant, born in 1835. His first foray into the world of work was
as a bobbin boy, at the age of 13, where he earned $1.20 per week. Carnegie quickly gained skills and
proved his work ethic, until he landed a job with the Pennsylvania Railroad, and was promoted to
superintendent by the age of 24 (Carnegie.org, 2015). From there, Carnegie s vision and success grew
exponentially, and now his name is often mentioned alongside the likes of Henry Ford, Thomas
Edison, and Cornelius Vanderbilt (Biography.com, 2017). With great success, came great wealth, and
Carnegie developed very clear ideas concerning how wealth should be handled. These ideas led
Carnegie to write an article which is today ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 2016 election saw a candidate, Bernie Sanders, whose views many considered to border on
socialism. (Sanders asserts he is actually a Democratic Socialist.) Sanders views brought the debate
over capitalism vs. socialism closer to the forefront of American politics than it has ever been.
Carnegie seemed to be like minded. When asked in an interview if he was a Socialist, he did not
answer directly, but made the following statement, I believe socialism is the grandest theory ever
presented, and I am sure some day it will rule the world... Then men will be content to work for the
general welfare and share their riches with their neighbors (Nassaw, 2006). Obviously, Carnegie s
prediction has yet to come to fruition in the United States. While Sanders had (and still has) many
staunch supporters, his ideals drew much criticism from those who argued that they incentivized
failure. Interestingly, Carnegie drew a distinction between how one gains wealth, and the effect this
may have on how he spends his money. There are those who inherit wealth; they are the most likely to
spend frivolously. To the contrary, those who earn money through hard work, develop a greater
appreciation for money. He further encouraged those with great wealth to set an example of modest,
unostentatious living, shunning display or extravagance (Carnegie, 1901). Facets of today s society
can be seen praising pretension, and encouraging flashiness or frivolity. As cultural values change, the

  • 2. The Education Of Medical Education On May 16, 1769 at King s College, Doctor Samuel Bard begins his commencement speech to a small group of gentlemen anxiously awaiting their graduation and immersion into the complex and elite society of medical practitioners. One can assume great bursts of applause follow the ceremony, as the institution releases the young men into the work field, unbeknownst to them what grueling education their predecessors underwent and what curriculum aspiring young men of the near future would endure. American medical education in the mid eighteenth to mid nineteenth centuries developed greatly, from originally being lecture and humanities heavy to drawing on anatomical precisions and scientific specialization. However, one cannot attribute these educational luxuries to only American schools. English versions of medical education heavily influenced those of America, but American schools would see developmental delays in methods of teaching and curriculum content compared to their role models across the sea. Some of the few, but major, components of the evolution of medical education include the method of teaching (lecture versus clinical), core curriculum (humanities versus science), and accessibility of resources (cadavers, facilities, etc.) Increasingly, and quite obviously, over the years, improvements in medical technology, disease diagnosis, and human anatomy greatly contributed to this shift in medical education. However, the turn of the nineteenth century marked great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Rise Of Buddhism Research Paper The fifth and fourth centuries B.C. were times of a worldwide intellectual renaissance. It was an age of great thinkers, thinkers like Socrates and Plato, Confucius and Lao Tzu. In India, it was the age of the Buddha Shakyamuni, or simply the Buddha, after whose death a religion emerged that eventually spread far beyond the reaches of its homeland. In order to understand Buddhism and its art we must first know who the Buddha was. Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as the Buddha, was born as a prince to the royal family of Kapilavastu, whose kingdom was located in the Himalayan foothills. At the time of his birth, sages predicted that he would become a universal conqueror, a conqueror of either the physical world or of men s minds. It was the latter conquest that came to pass. Giving up the pleasures of the palace Siddhartha went on to seek the true purpose of life, Siddhartha first attempted the path of severe asceticism, only to abandon his efforts after six years, as it was a futile exercise. He then sat down in yogic meditation beneath a banyan tree until he achieved enlightenment. He was known henceforth as the Buddha, or Enlightened One. Upon his death the Buddha requested that he be cremated and a memorial be built at a place where people can gather. These memorials, which are known as Stupas, are the first example of Buddhist art. At first these stupas were simple structures shaped like rounded mounds meant to represent the curving form of the universe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Benefits of Extracurricular Activities for Students... It is important for adolescents to participate in extracurricular activities. Student who participate in these activities improve their academic scores and social life. Extracurricular activities can also help reduce many peer pressure related problems. They enrich the lives of the students, their families and our communities. These activities create well rounded children who learn what their interests and talents are because they have been exposed to such opportunities (Extracurricular Activities, Blogadmin). For most adolescents extracurricular activities should be required among what they do outside of school. What are extracurricular activities? Extracurricular activities are those sponsored by and usually held at school but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many activities also require a minimum grade point average (GPA) to join (Dowshen). This requirement is a boost for most of the students to excel in school so they can participate in these activities. Although extracurricular activities take up a lot of time they are worth the time that a student puts into it (Extracurricular Activities). So why are extracurricular activities important? Extracurricular activities shape how a person acts within him or herself, in the community, and their performance in school. Schools should highly encourage every student to be in some type of activity (Hollrah). Although extracurricular activities can help improve students academics, they can also have a bad effect on how grades turn out. Extracurricular activities take time, and this can affect on how much time the student has to complete home work or study (Wells). This can lead to a student doing poorly on tests and in the big run, failing the class which will hurt the student college applications. If a student that is involved in a sport is badly injured, this can affect the student because he or she is missing school, and then all the work that is missed will have to be made up. Stress is also a big factor that is put together with extracurricular activities. Stress can affect how the child does in school; if a student is stressed out, they can get sick. Being sick requires the child to stay home and then they will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The conflict was between two types of governments: the communists and the capitalism (democrats). The USSR represented the communist side, while the U.S. represented the democrats. Both countries had nuclear weapons and did not want to fight each other directly because they didn t want a Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), so they fought through other countries, by Proxy Wars. Since the National Guard didn t have that many people, they started recruiting farmers who were kicked out because of the new farming system that the Sandinistas started using. The second group was lead by a dissatisfied Sandinistas leader, Eden Pastora. He set up two groups in Honduras called the contras , or counter revolutionary forces. Reagan wanted to support contras economically and he stated that quite openly; however, a lot of U.S. citizens did not like that. During that time, in 1985, a war between Iran and Iraq took place. Even though the U.S. publicly supported Iraq, the government also secretly assisted Iran. Among those years Iran asked the United States for help with weaponry. It is illegal to sell weapons to the hostages but Regan still thought it would help him and the U.S. One of the reasons why he did it was because he wanted to take control in the problematic Middle East and selling weapons to Iran would improve the relations with Iran and Lebanon. At the same time Reagan wanted to free the seven hostages that were held by Iranian terrorist and even though he strongly supported the rule of not negotiating with terrorists, he broke the rule by supplying Iran with weapons. After receiving money from Iran, Regan sponsored contras using that money. The United States had also supplied the contras with weapons and equipment. • 8. Pttm s Pathological Determortem Diagnosis PTTM is a highly fatal, rare complication from metastatic carcinoma. Von Herbay et al. first described the disease in 1990 after a review of 630 consecutive autopsy cases of carcinoma (8). Of the 21 cases, gastric carcinoma was the most prevalent. Although less prevalent, malignancies of lung, breast, prostate, and colon, among others were noted during the study (8). An antermortem diagnosis is challenging due to the rapidly progressive pulmonary hypertension and right side heart failure. However, PTTM has pathological, radiological, and clinical characteristics that can help aid an antermortem diagnosis. In order to assess PTTM s pathological characteristics antermortem, a lung biopsy is required. A histological assessment from a lung biopsy is the most accurate method of diagnosis; however, the patients are usually too hypoxic upon discovery to perform a lung biopsy. In which case, a pathological diagnosis can only be made postmortem. Although, antermortem and postmortem investigations will inspect for the same determining factors histologically. Centrilobular nodules and tree in bud images are also radiological indicators of PTTM (4). Additionally, the chest CT angiogram should not show signs of a pulmonary embolism, which is a common suspicion during the clinical investigation of PTTM (2, 3). If a litigation case covers more than one jurisdiction a lawyer will need to be hired that knows each particular jurisdiction. The reason that a lawyer familiar with that particular United States (US) district court, from herein referred to as districts; will need to be hired, is due to the differences in the local rules throughout the districts. To summarize David Canfield (2012), several states have adopted new civil procedures since the 2006 Amendments that may be incorporated in the Federal rules for future amendments (Canfield, 2012, p.p. 1 2). • 14. Franz Kafka s A Hunger Artist And The Metamorphosis Self insertion, a literary device in which a character who is the real author of a work of fiction appears as a character within fiction, either overtly or in disguise. Imagine yourself being unable to obtain the recognition of your parents your whole life and leaving this world as a nobody. The writings of Franz Kafka not only spoke of the absurdity of life, but also about who he was. They told about what type of human being he was, and how he was feeling. You can see this in both of his well known short stories, A Hunger Artist and The Metamorphosis. I believe that there is a personal link between author and character and that it can be found in most of his works. Franz Kafka was born on July 3, 1883, in Prague. The writer grew up in a middle class Jewish family and studied law at the University of Prague. By the time Kafka was six he had lost his two younger brothers, they were only infants, leaving Franz as the only boy in the family. This tragedy shaped the family for the rest of their lives. Growing up Kafka s relationship with his parents suffered, neither of them supporting his desire of become a writer. Hermann Kafka, Franz s father, was a forceful man and made it apparent throughout the household. Kafka s father had a profound impact on both Kafka s life and writing. He was a tyrant of sorts, with a wicked temper and little appreciation for his son s creative side ( Franz Kafka. Bio. A E Television Networks). Although it was difficult to get along with his ... Recordings and one on one interviews with someone who lived through a certain time period or particular event can often provide a substantial amount of information and evidences on a subject that one may be researching. Unfortunately oral history does has its flaws, and it does not always provide the best source of information. Often information from direct interviews and other forms of oral history can be misinterpreted and inaccurate. There are quite a few pros and cons when using oral history as a source of evidence. These pros includes first hand accounts of a certain event, person, and/or time period, next access to information not available in books, articles, or journals, and finally oral history allows for different views and opinions on a subject matter the opportunity to be heard that otherwise wouldn t. There also are several cons when using oral history as a source of evidence. As mention earlier information from oral history can and has often been misinterpreted and inaccurate. Another con includes biases and ideology differences effecting personal accounts of an event or person. The final con is the creditability of the actually source. In the Hochschild book and the interview with Stalin s daughter, these pros and cons are present. Having a first hand account of a historical event or person can be extremely useful. Whether someone has a disadvantage due to their race, sex, economic position, religious affiliation, disability, employment status, etc., they suffer prejudice due to this and, therefore, must find a way to get their voices heard and flee from bigoted hate. While this prevailed more during the last centuries and decreased since the 1960 s, intolerance still exists on a worldwide level, especially anti black racism in the USA. • 22. The Importance Of Cultural Awareness In Georgia Introduction Cultural awareness is a useful base for human communication and constitutes the aptitude to become aware of what values, believes or perceptions are found within our culture. Culture awareness helps understand why things are done in a certain way and how we perceive other cultures and in what ways we are supposed to act when in a particular situation (Schein and Edgar, 13). Culture includes marriages, religion, music and dance, education, dressing, language among many other aspects. The world is made up many different cultures and cultural awareness is important to enhance understanding and respect for other cultures (Schein and Edgar, 14). Culture awareness is important in all areas including in security. It is common for countries to send their armed forces for missions to various parts of the world where culture is completely different. Therefore, it is important to understand the various cultures and societies from these different countries which is very important for successful missions (Schein and Edgar, 16). This paper is therefore going to discuss in details culture awareness in Georgia. The Meaning Of Being Chinese And Chinese Immigrants Immigration brings uncertainty, tensions between the past and present, and alterations in identity due to acculturation as shown through Leon and other characters in Bone. In the psychological study, The Meaning of Being Chinese and Being American : Variation among Chinese American Young Adults, the correlation between the Chinese immigrating to the United States abridging Chinese and American cultures varied based on their age of immigration and the duration of their time in the United States, demonstrating that immigration provides a multifaceted experience for each individual. Chinese immigrants who immigrated over the age of twelve, like Mah and Leon, present an anchored identity as Chinese, but have to adapt through consciously engaging in American culture to survive. Leon distances himself from his frustrations of living in America by going out to sea, evading Chinatown a reminder of Ona s death , and by distracting himself in project inventions without any intentions of completing them. Then, Mah immerses herself in work and relationships, including her affair with Tommie Ham and her over involvement in her daughters lives. • 27. Socrates And Louis Riel Throughout history, great minds have used situational platforms like trials to advance their ideas to large audiences. Socrates and Louis Riel are no exception to this and used their respected trials as a means of conveying a final political statement. This is evident in both Plato s The Trial and Death of Socrates and Hans V. Hansen s Reil s Defense: Perspectives on his Speeches. Both men s speeches can be seen as weak examples of forensic rhetoric and strong examples of political rhetoric due to the fact that Socrates and Riel both believed in a divine mission and cause much larger than themselves. It is clear that neither man set out to win their trial, and I argue that both Socrates and Riel s speeches were intended to politically inspire as they both saw themselves as martyrs for a greater cause. Socrates trial speech can be considered one of the most important examples of political rhetoric in history. Socrates was brought before the courts on charges of impiety and corrupting the youth of Athens because of his teachings and the politico philosophic questions he posed to his students. At the time Socrates was 70 and could have easily fled Athens with the help of his supporters however he chose to stay in Athens to face the legal consequences of his actions. Socrates had no intention of winning his trial, as Brumbaugh notes Socrates was not arrested [...] but was summoned to the court of the First Archon to file his answer to the charges against him (pg.232, ... The enlightenment, which is also known as the age of reason is the name given to an important period in the history of western civilization. Enlightenment is often defined as a man s emergence from his self incurred immaturity. Enlightenment was the period during the 17th 18th century, when people saw the growth of modern science and a new faith in the power of reason and the improvement of the human condition. The developments took place in Germany, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Portugal. The society increased through much of Europe, as well as Russia and Scandinavia plus the United States. The enlightenment was a time where the human ability to reason was glorified. The Era was given the name enlightenment , because it was a time when an influential group actively sought to use the clear life of reason that is rational thought to rid the world of superstition and ignorance. Not only is this city located in the Smokies, but it also houses many famous attractions such as the Knoxville Zoo, the Tennessee theatre, old historic Knoxville, and the Sunsphere. Many authors came from this city, and among these are Cormac Mccarthy, who wrote Suttree in May, 1979, and James Agee, who wrote Knoxville: Summer 1915 in 1957. Both authors relayed the tone of their passages well, a communal tone for Agee and venomous for Mccarthy, but only one expressed their tone the best. This author was Mccarthy who established his tone, venomous, through his use of diction throughout the excerpt. The tone of Knoxville:Summer,1915 by Agee is communal. The quote supports the topic sentence by showing how the whole community started and stopped watering their grass at about the same time. • 33. Ethics Is A Theory Of Proper Moral Conduct Shaudee Houshmand Professor Basil PHIL 1 13 December 2015 Final Paper Ethics Ethics derives from the Greek word ethos which means character. Essentially ethics is a theory of proper moral conduct. Essentially, in ethics one is trying to make a distinction between what is the case between what ought to be the case. A key player in ethics is the moral agent. A moral agent is a person that has an ability to reflect on moral issues. Moral actions conform to the law and immoral actions do not conform to the law. Relativism Ethical relativist deny any objective moral values. Cultural relativism explains that in different times and in different places people act in different ways; they acquire different values and ideas of what is morally right and wrong. Moral relativism explains that there are no moral absolutes; everyone can do what they please and how they want whenever they like. James Rachels believes in cultural relativism. There are many different arguments first, Different cultures have different moral codes, therefore there is no objective truth in morality, right and wrong are only matters of opinion and opinions vary from culture to culture (Rachels). This means that right and wrong are opinions and those opinions vary from cultures. This argument is not valid for cultural relativism. Just because different cultures have different moral codes, it does not follow that there is no objective truth for morality. Some of Rachels s arguments for moral relativism are: if ... Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Research Report CS6705 Prioritized Multi Criteria Decision Making and Multi Criteria Aggregation By Rizwan Umaid Ali Student # 3494784 Multi Criteria decision making (MCDM) is an area of Artificial Intelligence which provides capabilities to assess complex decision problems. The decisions can depend on our preferences of some criteria over others. In this report, we analyze formulations of MCDM and Multi Criteria Aggregation. To further understand this, we also see how we calculate prioritized measure of Multi Criteria Aggregation and its Shapley index. Introduction For a modern application, reaching satisfaction can depend upon several criteria. Each criteria in it can be satisfied to reach an optimal result, but in real world scenarios satisfying every criteria is impossible and even not required. For example, if a bill needs to be passed by an executive committee, we will need only half of the committee s approval to pass it. This leads us to think that we can reach satisfaction with any set of members of the committee. In fact, there are several cases where certain criteria have a higher priority than others and satisfaction cannot be reached without them. For instance, if the president of the executive committee has to approve the bill and other members just have to favour it, then the president will dominate the other criteria. To logically state this we can say Satisfy criterion A and if possible satisfy criterion B . We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. America s Strategic Thinkers Who Think Asia Essay This essay s topic required to evaluate the opinion that the US s strategic thinkers who think Asia is more important than the Middle East, are said to be not understanding the situation of the States in today s international context, and the affections onto its interests. Considering the importance of the Middle East to Asia will be the focus of this paper, in which the writer agreed with the assumption. Moreover, there will be reasons why the Middle East is still more important than Asia, along with comparison for each. And by the end of this essay, with backing from the main part, the conclusion will be able to show the supports for the mentioned opinion. To begin, we will start with the historical background of the US with the Middle East and Asia (mostly the US and the Middle East), in order to set a fundamental understanding. American government, for the whole historical period was likely to pursue interests beyond her land s border. There is an opinion that presidents since Harry Truman have recognized that there were four basic interests in the Middle East the Security of Israel, access to oil, cooperation with the Soviet Union (since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the interests doesn t exist anymore. Instead is the relation with Russia), and the upholding of certain principles. (Tillman, 1982, p. 62) The United States, nowadays has two main interests: one is the presence of oil and the other is the claim to religious origins. Oil seems to be the ... • 41. Supraspinatus Tendonitis Essay Supraspinatus tendonitis typically occurs when there is an impingement of the supraspinatus muscle of the shoulder joint between the acromion as it passes by the acromion and humerus head. In response, the supraspinatus tendon and the contiguous peritendinous soft tissues become inflamed. The supraspinatus is a muscle located in the supraspinatus fossa of the scapula located in the shoulder and is largely affected by supraspinatus tendonitis. The supraspinatus allows for the abduction of the shoulder and its insertion is the greater tuberosity of the humerus. Tendonitis is the inflammation of a tendon and commonly occurs in the elbows, knees, and shoulders. Therefore, supraspinatus tendonitis is the inflammation of the supraspinatus. This condition is a very common inflammatory problem because it can be caused by the abduction of the arm, which is involved in many sports and activities. Other hobbies like weightlifting, swimming, rowing, painting, and tennis are all activities that can cause supraspinatus tendonitis because it makes it more likely for the supraspinatus to pass under the acromion. Although this condition occurs more often in athletes and active individuals, people who are between 30 to 60 years old also commonly get this condition as well. Older people get supraspinatus tendonitis, due to supraspinatus tendinosis, which is when there is chronic degeneration without any inflammation. This can cause supraspinatus tendonitis because this condition can occur over time and slowly weaken the shoulder. • 42. Descartes Was A Philosopher That Did Not Take Any Truth Descartes was a philosopher that did not take any truth without questioning it. This is key in truly understanding the world around us. A real seeker of truth must doubt everything once in their lifetime. Without doubt, we have no reason. Without reason, we cannot hold any truths to be correct. Descartes truly understood how the rudiments vested in us by an infinite power play a powerful role in the way we live today. 1. What is your initial point of view? My initial point of view is that in order to seek the truth, we must doubt. In doubting, we critically analyze the reason behind our thought process. What exactly makes a piece of wax that piece of wax? Is it even wax? We must doubt even the simplest of truths in order to reach a higher state of knowing. 2. How can you define your point of view more clearly? I can define my point of view more clearly by defining truth and doubt. Truth can be defined as an idea that holds certainty and be able to question and analyze. Doubt can be defined as uncertainty with a questionable premise. 3. What is an example of your point of view? An example of my point of view is in Descartes most noted wax example. We take into consideration a piece of wax, which has a color, shape, size, and will emit a sound. Once we burn the wax, everything changes. We don t question that it is the same wax, though. But why? How do we know that it is the same wax? Descartes did exactly this, and concluded that what he saw he grasped solely with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Importance Of The Hollywood Star System There is no doubt that Hollywood is an industry based on selling movies and what sells movies better than the marketing of a Hollywood star. An actor or actress can not only make movies successful, but in addition their images are also profitable. The Hollywood Star System has been very profitable for Hollywood and contributed to saving Hollywood in the late 1920s and 1930s when studios found it financially hard to survive. Once Hollywood realized their star s had financial power there was no stopping the lengths they would go to in order to sell their star s persona. The Hollywood Star System originated during the Studio System in which actors and actress were signed to long term contracts with the studios. Moreover, studios understood that the actor s public persona was profitable. Studios invested heavily in the actor s public image or persona that they wanted the public to perceive. Studios had contractual morality clauses that outlined an actor s behavior so as to not tarnish the image that the studio was promoting. Therefore, the star system was an economic boon to the studios and this style of contract system lasted from the 1920s to the early 1960s (Star, 2017). However, this left the actors feeling more like a commodity, than actual people or employees, which created a contentious relationship between the studios and the stars that represented them. This atmosphere often led to public power struggles , when actors challenged the studios in an attempt to have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Listening To Sounds Analysis Upon finishing listening to what was my first podcast ever, it did not necessarily change my thoughts about noise of modern life. This is because I am and have always been an appreciator of the simple things in life. For example, I am the type of person who will sit in an airport and just think about the fact that in this one place where there are a multiple number of people, each of them has their own life. Each of these lives are being carried out all at the same time, and each of those lives are filled with different experiences, different losses, different gains, they have each had a vulnerable moment and a moment where they were filled with love and more importantly each of them has their own story. Each of these people have their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best thing about the noise in our society is that although there is a negative effect in situations of the ability to listen to personal music, there is also a positive side which encompasses the same thing. The reason that most of us listen to our own music is not only possibly a sub conscious effort to seclude ourselves from other around us, but also because we want to please ourselves by listening to sounds or music we like. Therefore, one example of how noise in our society promotes communication would be when a group of strangers are somewhere and here the new Taylor Swift song that they all love, they catch themselves singing and dancing to it, simultaneously noticing the others doing the same which breaks that barrier of being strangers by making them realize they have something in common. This later leads to them speaking to each other and possibly beginning a relationship. Similarly, from a more fundamental perspective sounds as simple as someone chopping wood outside, singing in the shower in the morning, or the sound of a jump rope hitting the pavement as little kids play, all play in the role of promoting communication; all you have to do is listen for ... • 46. Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Essay Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Nowadays, stereotypes seem to be the way we justify and categorize society. It can also be said that stereotypes are one way in which we define the world in order to see it. Because, if the world isn t defined, then how can we as people, grasp the concept of it? How do we justify our action, and those of others? People often, prejudge others or objects by grouping them into categories or styles they are familiar with, and then treat them by their experiences or just follow what other people usually do, without questioning their actions and motives. That causes miscommunication, argument or losing opportunities to broaden the life experience. Stereotypes are usually formed based on an individual s appearance, race, and gender that would put labels on people. The appearance of a person in general is one of the most important causes of stereotypes. People usually tend to stereotype a person from what they see and think. In Brent Staples Just Walk On By: A Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space, he experienced a certain stereotype from a white woman because of his appearance. He explained, To her, the youngish black man a broad six feet two inches with a bread and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket seemed menacing close (Staples 394). That white woman labeled Staples as a dangerous person who might hurt her, so she ran away as soon as she could. In other words, people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not too long ago, cyberspace has given institutions such as hospitals the tools to accumulate and file as much information and data as possible in this great space of technology, networks, and systems. Information such as patient s information, treatments, machinery, as well as having a better way to have a secure place to store them and have authorization in accessing them. However, such tools had been used as weapons by those who want to have access and possession of such critical information and control by cyber criminals, thieves, and terrorists. Unfortunately, it s not simple to live in a world in which laws can just simply protect institutions that help save lives. Rather, hospitals have fallen as victims of cyberattacks. On the evening of February 5th, at Los Angeles, California, doctors and staff from Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, noticed several technical issues while trying to access the hospital s computer network. The hospital s IT department was notified, and they began their investigation to determine the cause of these issues. However, these issues carried on for approximately a week, which was a frustration for doctors and staff members because they were unable to digitally access patient s medical records and treatments, communication via ... Economies Of Brazil, Russia, India, And China BRIC is an acronym for the economies of Brazil, Russia, India, and China combined, originally projected to be the fastest growing market economies by Jim O Neill of Goldman Sachs first in 2001, but most prominently in a follow up paper published in 2003 (( Brazil, Russia, India, and China BRIC, n.d.). The Goldman Sachs thesis states they, Brazil, Russia, India, and China, have the potential to form a powerful economic bloc ( Brazil, Russia, India, and China BRIC, n.d.). Just thirty prior, Brazil, Russia, India, and China were all struggling in some fashion. Brazil was dealing with over inflation. Russia was behind the Iron Curtain. India made the mistake of kicking IBM and Coca Cola out of their country, and China was in recovery mode from the Cultural Revolution. Now, each of these countries are on the rise, and China is likely surpass the United States by having the World s largest economy. One thing that these countries have in common are low labor and production costs. Due to lower labor and production costs, many companies also cite BRIC as a source of foreign expansion opportunity, and promising economies in which to invest ( Brazil, Russia, India, and China BRIC, n.d.). There is no doubt Brazil, Russia, India, and China all have powerful economies that are currently busting at the seams. . Hours are wasted away wandering mindlessly around the house, sitting in front of a television screen, or simply sleeping to make the time pass by faster. Meanwhile, across the world students are spending their time in school studying and getting ahead, while America is continually dropping in its rankings. Across America, the few schools that have already extended the school year have all reported similar and positive results. This evidence alone should be enough to change the federal law to increase the minimum number of days in a school year. Because of the direct relationship shown between the length of the school year and international academic rankings and the constructive changes seen in schools in America with longer school years, the ineffective structure of the American school calendar should be modified as to make the school year longer, helping Americans succeed and compete globally with other leading countries. Not only is America s diminutive academic school year restricting the US s global competitiveness, but the structure of the school year is very ineffective, especially the long summer break. First of all, long summer vacations were not even intended for today s American society. The original purpose of an extended summer vacation was for children to help their family tend to their farms in America s past agricultural society. Now that America is no longer an agricultural society, but rather post industrial, the long vacation is pointless and actually detrimental (Summer Vacation is No Longer Necessary). His first foray into the world of work was as a bobbin boy, at the age of 13, where he earned $1.20 per week. Carnegie quickly gained skills and proved his work ethic, until he landed a job with the Pennsylvania Railroad, and was promoted to superintendent by the age of 24 (Carnegie.org, 2015). From there, Carnegie s vision and success grew exponentially, and now his name is often mentioned alongside the likes of Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Cornelius Vanderbilt (Biography.com, 2017). (Sanders asserts he is actually a Democratic Socialist.) Sanders views brought the debate over capitalism vs. socialism closer to the forefront of American politics than it has ever been. Carnegie seemed to be like minded. When asked in an interview if he was a Socialist, he did not answer directly, but made the following statement, I believe socialism is the grandest theory ever presented, and I am sure some day it will rule the world... Then men will be content to work for the general welfare and share their riches with their neighbors (Nassaw, 2006). Obviously, Carnegie s prediction has yet to come to fruition in the United States. While Sanders had (and still has) many staunch supporters, his ideals drew much criticism from those who argued that they incentivized failure. Interestingly, Carnegie drew a distinction between how one gains wealth, and the effect this may have on how he spends his money. There are those who inherit wealth; they are the most likely to spend frivolously. To the contrary, those who earn money through hard work, develop a greater appreciation for money. He further encouraged those with great wealth to set an example of modest, unostentatious living, shunning display or extravagance (Carnegie, 1901).
