Why Do Jewish Holidays
When people think of holidays they would think Christmas or thanksgiving. But with the Jewish
religion they celebrate holidays a little bit different than most people. With the Jewish cultural they
celebrate Shabbat, Passover, You Kippur, Sukkot, and Hanukkah.
The Shabbat is considered the most important of all Jewish holidays. It is the day of rest and weekly
observance of God s completion of creation. Shabbat starts on a Friday night an hour before sunset, it
lasts for 25 hour until sunset on Saturday night. This holiday is one of the way the Jewish people
connect with Yahweh because these people will make some of the tuitional meal that comes with this
holiday. Also, they will make the setting special because they are celebration their god ... Show more

It is the most solemn day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement offers an
entire day devoted to self examination. Many spend the day in synagogue devoted to prayer and study
while abstaining from food and drink. The goal is to begin the New Year with a clean slate, which can
be good for many of the Jews who do bad things and need a new start at life.
And after that would come Sukkot. This seven day festival celebrates the fall harvest and also
commemorates the time when the Hebrews dwelt in the Sinai wilderness on their way to the Promised
land of Israel, which is important for the Jewish people because they don t want to end up in what they
called pit of fire. Also, the holiday is celebrated by building (and then dwelling in) ceremonial huts
called Sukkot.
Finally comes Hanukkah. This beloved eight day winter festival celebrates the miracle of a small cruse
of oil when it burned for eight days, instead of only one. It also celebrates the military victory of the
Jewish Maccabees over the powerful Syrian Greek army in 167 BCE. The victory was followed by a
rededication(Hanukkah) of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. It is from this act that the holiday gets its
name, which I find very interesting because of something so small created a holiday. But with
Christian religion it would be Christmas and its only celebrated one day. The day where Mary had

Effects Of School Achievement On Children
School achievement outcomes are also life impacting. Often the only way out of poverty is an
education that can provide them with a job which can meet their income needs. If a child s school
achievement is affected by poverty, they have a higher chance of dropping out and continuing poverty
in their generation. Effects of school achievement are measured by if the child has repeated a grade,
suspended or expelled, and/or dropped out before graduating. A large amount of children that live in
poverty will repeat a grade due to limit educational tools to provide them with practice at home. If the
child has behavior problem, then they may be expelled for acting out or misbehaving, this affects their
learning as they are not in class learning. The percentage of children living poverty that are affected by
school achievement outcomes are 2 3 times greater than children not living in in this state of being.
Emotional or behavior outcomes are measured by tantrums, outbursts and aggression, this usually
persist beyond the normal age range expected. Poor children suffer from emotional and/or behavior
outcomes more often than children living in non poverty. These effects are displayed at school and at
home, occasionally in public places such as the mall, and causes disturbances such as violence.
Emotional problems also include internal problems such as anxiety and depression, which can cause
the child to disassociate themselves from social opportunities. These children are often

Genting expects an even stronger growth for the oil and gas division in the future from increased oil
production in Muturi (Indonesia) and China.
WEAKNESS
Weak performance of property and manufacturing divisions
Despite an increase of 7.7% in fiscal year 2006, the property division s revenues have been volatile
over the recent years. For the period 2003 2006, the division s CAGR was 6%, the lowest among all
the company s business divisions. Despite a 6% increase in revenues, the manufacturing division s
profit before tax declined 44% in fiscal 2006 over the previous year. Weak performance of these
divisions would affect the overall growth of the company.
Weak returns
Genting has recorded weak returns in the last few years. Its return on investments and return on equity
for trailing twelve months (TTM) December 2006 were 10.2% and 13.5%, respectively, lower than the
industry averages of 10.5% and 16.8% for the same period. Weak returns reflect the inability of the
management to deploy assets in profitable avenues, and this could result in decreasing investor
confidence.

Bondocks And Black Dynamite Analysis
Racism is still an issue in the United States of America. Many authors of satirical cartoons such as The
Boondocks and Black Dynamite have emphasized these events in a satirical manner to try to get the
American public involved and stop the racial oppression that is occurring. However, many audience
members do not take these types of shows seriously and view them as a joke rather than a serious
topic. As the majority of audience members not taking satirical shows such as The Boondocks and
Black Dynamite seriously has led to the support of racism instead of the abolishment of it. Cartoons
such as The Boondocks and Black Dynamite highlight racial beliefs and pokes fun at the ignorance
behind them. For instance, a scene from The Boondocks depicts ... Show more content on

This misinterpretation is due to audience members coming from different cultural backgrounds
resulting in many viewers finding some parts of the show humorous while others find it offensive
(Habib, 2008). The cultural backgrounds that the audience members come from may also affect as to
how much they know about other cultures and not just their own. This is what many African American
people fear when shows such as The Boondocks and Black Dynamite are aired on television since the
cartoons might give a negative representation of the African American community and reinforce
stereotypes (Rockler, 2002 p. 409). Instances of these misinterpretations can be found throughout
multiple episodes of The Boondocks and Black Dynamite. For instance, in The Boondocks episode,
Granddad s Fight, written by Aaron McGruder and Rodney Barnes the theme of the episode was that
nigga moments end badly. Throughout the episode Robert J. Freeman prepares to fight Colonel H.
Stinkmeaner, a blind old man, since Stinkmeaner made Robert look like a fool by beating him up in a
parking lot. Huey, Robert s grandson, trains Robert since Huey believes that Stinkmeaner is a blind
swordsman, but in the end, Huey realizes he was wrong. However, Huey was too late and was unable
to talk his granddad, Robert, out of fighting Stinkmeaner resulting in Stinkmeaner s death, which leads
to the overall theme that nigga moments end badly (2005). The overall message that McGruder and
Barnes were trying to make in this episode is that the African American community needs to stop
living up to their stereotypes and realize the way they represent their culture when they perform these
actions. Throughout this episode, there are multiple scenes of the authors purpose such as Huey
continuously trying to convince his grandfather, Robert, from going

Whiteness In The Bluest Eye
Whiteness manifests itself in The Bluest Eye as a symbol of desire or the standard of beauty. Symbols
like Shirley Temple and blue eyes reflect society s social acceptability. Likewise, this negatively
effects characters like Pecola who then internalizes whiteness as beauty and her own complexion as
ugly similar to the doll test . Pecola is also cursed out of Geraldine s home because of her complexion
while she reinforces whiteness as this standard of beauty that is unrealistically obtainable for Pecola
and her self worth.
Sula s depiction of whiteness manifests itself as antagonism to blackness. By this I mean that unlike
The Bluest Eye, whiteness is not the standard of beauty, but rather, the opposing force to the Bottom s
community. Examples

Sailing To Byzantium Summary
Eventually Become Old (An analysis of Sailing to Byzantium ) Great poetry is best complemented
with great analysis. Some of the greatest commentators of our time have been able to transfigure
readers into reading poetry English language poetry in both deeper and broader senses (Gursoy).
Sailing to Byzantium is a great poem that is easy to relate to. The ideas that are expressed through W.
B. Yeats are clear and well put together together in order to create a direct message to take away. Yeats
writes this poem as he begins to realize what life really is about. In Sailing to Byzantium, W. B. Yeats
has contributed many messages for humans to easily apply to their lives. In Sailing to Byzantium, by
W. B. Yeats, the message that as we grow up, those who are young want to experience life and have no
desire to be directed by those who are old. This is a true statement, as it can be clearly defined.
Although sometimes we should take advice from those who are at a higher point in life than us, we
often choose to ignore them in order to regain focus for ourselves. As we continue our lives, we are
constantly wishing to stay young. In the poem, Yeats describes this feeling in these words. Caught in
that sensual music all neglect Monuments of unaging intellect (line 7). Yeats writes this to prove his
position that he only wishes to experience life as one who may continually live life only by way of
experiencing as a young person. Today, the poem Sailing to Byzantium has been

Spanish American Imperialism Essay
Some people say america was the land of freedom
I feel that the american imperialism had a negative effect on the natives In the Spanish American War
of 1898 the United States seized the Spanish colonies in the Caribbean and the Pacific, emerging for
the first time as a world power.* As in Cuba, Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines had given rise to
a national liberation struggle. Immediately after the U.S. naval bombardment of Manila on May 1,
1898, in which the Spanish fleet was destroyed, Admiral Dewey sent a gunboat to fetch the exiled
Filipino revolutionary leader Emilio Aguinaldo from Hong Kong. The United States wanted
Aguinaldo to lead a renewed revolt against Spain to prosecute the war before U.S. troops could arrive.

a recreational paradise, and a prosperous timber industry. It all changed though on March 20th of
1980, when a 4.2 magnitude Earthquake woke Mount St. Helens from a slumber that had lasted

In this motif tracing, I argue that the epithet monster is used as an agent of othering, a way to remove
Caliban from the other characters and depict him as something other than human. In Shakespeare s
The Tempest, Caliban s name is only said eight times, while he is addressed as monster the rest of the
34 times he is spoken to. This motif is used to belittle and dehumanize a unique character that plays an

restraint of his speech to simple diction, and portrayal as an insurgent, causes the uncultured native to

How Did Mazzini Contribute To The Unification Of Italy
The identity of Italy was changing with different political powers and views clashing over the ideas of
unification. From 1830 1870, people began to voice their opinions of the divided nation, raising much
conflict. Italy, before its process of revolution began, was mostly ruled by foreign powers and absolute
monarchs. The country s citizens decided they wanted a change in their government and freedom from
their rulers. In the beginning, the revolt was not organized and resulted in failure until they united and
fought as one large group. With the help of historical revolutionaries such as Mazzini and Cavour,
Italy was finally seeing a revolution of its government and a unification of the nation. Italy s fight for
unification overwhelming number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Born in Venice, he wrote a letter to a friend in 1848. In which Manin claims that, It is vital that the
italian states should be based on tradition (Document 5), in other words that people who have different
customs should not be forced to come together, as their differences would result in a civil war. He
applies that an independent Italy would simply not work due to traditions. He also adds that no state
should be refused the republican form of government if it feels suited to it than a constitutional
monarchy. Because inhabitants of Italy had different believes and great diversity, civil wars would

Roman Myths And Hippolytus Myth
Myths are stories describing the activities of the gods and larger than life humans, which were
manipulated for different functions to highlight different values and ideologies resulting in different
versions. I agree with the statement and will argue that Roman foundation myths and Hippolytus myth
were used by ancient societies to bind its members into a cohesive unit. This essay will explore the
ways in which myths brought members of an ancient society together by instilling and reinforcing
civic identity and pride, explore how the role of myths defined, unified and divided Roman society,
and discuss how myths were used to reinforce social conventions whilst allowing exploration of social
tensions and issues. I will be referring to the primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Roman foundation myths became popular at this point due to their ability to unite society through
common origins and displace political differences, helping Emperor Augustus to solidify his reign.
The myths included the origins of Rome s core political and religious institutions (Hughes and Hope,
2010, p.108), recounted in Livy s The Early Histories of Rome. Livy (2010, p.23) credits Romulus
with founding Rome by the giving of laws, without which the creation of a unified body politic would
not have been possible and the adoption of certain visible signs of power like the twelve lectors to
attend him, the curule chair, purple bordered togas and the creation of the Senate. Augustus used these
myths and the ideas associated with Aeneas and Romulus to communicate his ideology of tradition
and innovation. Augustus implemented Livy s (2010, p.17) idea that in history you can find for
yourself and your country both examples and warnings; fine things to take as models, base things,
rotten through and through, to avoid . He did this by restoring sites associated with Rome s early
heroes and representing them around the city and in his new imperial forum alluding that his regime
was consistent with the ideals and values of Rome s ancient past. Augustus was

The Design And Production Of Artifacts
Neri Oxman Introduction Over the long trajectory of architectural design history, the design and
production of artifacts has been characterized by the growing separation of form making from its
natural foundations in material conditions. In contradistinction to craft production (Sennett 2008) in
which material and form are naturally intertwined into a tradition of making, modern design and
production have historically evolved away from this integration towards the compartmentalization of
form making as a process independent of its sources in material knowledge. At least since the
Renaissance, with the emergence of architectural theories, form making, as the production of form
inspired by theory, has become an autonomous body of knowledge. ... Show more content on

Eventually, this non material approach to the design and the automation of construction were to be
reinforced under the command of computer aided design. The digital revolution, which marked the
change from analog to digital technology, has transformed the designer?s drafting board into a digital
canvas. Form, it seemed, was now divorced completely from the physical reality of its manifestation.
Granted, these new design spaces afforded much liberation in terms of formal expression, but it has
also broadened the gap between form and matter and made the hierarchical and sequential separation
of modeling, analysis and fabrication processes infinitely more pronounced. The implementation and
broad absorption of enhanced computational design tools in architectural practice has, since the early
nineties, motivated a renaissance of the formalist project in architecture; geometrically complex
shapes became emblems of creativity in digital design environments and supported the design mastery
of complex geometries in form generation. This formal and geometric design orientation has also
addressed ?free form? design and architecture along with their enabling technologies as part of the
larger design phenomenon of the ?mass customization? of ?non standard? form. Today, perhaps under

Declaration Of Independence Rhetorical Analysis
1B) The Declaration of Independence uses several rhetorical strategies, making the argumentative
testament of the wrongdoings of the king an effective in pursuing equality for all men. Jefferson
utilizes logos, pathos and ethos to prove his point to the country holding their liberty prisoner.
Jefferson s use of logos begins with stating the obvious reason the king should set the people free: the
people have the right to the pursuit of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness (2). The King has not
done good to the people, in fact he has refused to pass the laws necessary to create order, dissolved
representative houses, cut off trade, and imposed unlawful taxes upon the people. They have the basic
human rights given to them by God that should set them free from the tyrannical king. Some of the
emotional side of Jefferson s views slip into this argument, such as mankind are more disposed to
suffer, while evils are sufferable (5). While stating further wrongdoings, Jefferson s use of pathos
increases, raising the rage of the republic at the injustice of the rules they have been subjected to. He is
at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to complete the works of death,
desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty perfidy scarcely paralleled in the
most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation (26). Jefferson calls for a
sense of empathy from the crown and establishes a sense of severe discontent

Muscles Upper Arm
The muscles of your shoulder are strongly involved whenever you throw a punch. Your anterior
deltoids, located on the front of your shoulders, work with your pectoralis major muscles to push your
arm out towards the opponent. Once you have hit the opponent, your middle trapezius, rhomboids and
latissimus dorsi draw your arm back ready for you to throw another punch.
The Muscles of the Upper Arm
Extending your arm is down to your triceps brachii. This is located on the rear of your upper arm, and
is the powerful muscle that quickly pushes your elbow out so that you can reach your opponent. Your
biceps brachii which are located on the front of your upper arm, are responsible for bending your
elbow as you pull your arm back into your original guard position again, ready to throw more
punches. In the upper arm there is a pair of muscles which work together to perform these movements;
the biceps being the antagonist as it relaxes during an extension of an arm which means the triceps is
the agonist as it tenses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Madeleine Vionnet Research Paper
Madeleine Vionnet was born in France in 1876 and was apprenticed to a dressmaker while she was a
child (Arnold, 2015). At the age of eleven, Mme. Madeline realized the gift of her hands and became a
seamstress. In the early 1900s, she began her career in a couture house in Paris, Callot Soeurs (Arnold,
2015). There she worked for six years and skilled herself in draping fabrics directly on live models.
She was so dedicated to her passion that she worked twelve hours a day and often during lunch hours.
This dedication earned her the title of architect among other dressmakers.
Later, she worked with Jacques Doucet from 1907 to 1912 (Arnold, 2015). Mr. Doucet was a fashion
designer and art collector. Here, Vionnet s first collection was considered a revolution in the house and
for its time. Unfortunately, an ageing Doucet could not keep up with the taste of women after World
War I. Vionnet never learned sketching, but developed skills in dressmaking in haute couture before
opening her own establishment in 1912 (Kirke, 1998).
During 1920, the war had passed and people were ready to push aside the old trends. When the
prohibition law passed, jazz music and new dances became all the rage. This influenced Madeleine for
making conventional garments for stage performers. Madeleine created garments that were loose, free

But in the 1920s Vionnet s fashion house was reopened in Paris, which got the title of The Temple of
Fashion (Kirke, 1998). The fashion house impressed the world of couture with her great inventions:
garments cut on the bias which gave more flexibility to the garments, gowns with unique silhouettes,
unusual draping skills. Her major clients were stage artists, due to which her garments were
showcased well to catch the attention (Kirke, 1998). With her perfect skills and the balance between
experimentation and elegance, her concepts are still remembered

The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case Against Anne Hutchinson
The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case Against Anne Hutchinson is a transcription of a court trial. The
document was written in 1637 by an unnamed person, who worked for the court. It was written to
keep a record of the trial and to set a precedent for future trials. Anne Hutchinson was on trial for
holding and practicing beliefs that were considered threatening to the stability of the church and
community. Anne Hutchinson was convicted of antinomianism and was subsequently
excommunicated from the colony. After leaving Massachusetts Bay, Anne went on to help found
Portsmouth, Rhode Island. After Portsmouth, Anne Hutchinson went to Long Island where she was
killed.
Anne Hutchinson was on trial when The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case against Anne Hutchinson
was written. The document reveals many things about the Puritans religious beliefs and way of life.
Massachusetts Bay was founded in 1629. By 1640, 20,000 people had migrated to Massachusetts. The
founders of the colony traveled to America because they were not in control of the church in England.
The puritans knew that they would be able to practice their religion freely in America. They wanted to
create a better England that was ruled by their religious beliefs. The Puritans knew that this was
possible in America, so, they left England. Once the puritans reached Massachusetts Bay they created
extreme laws that strictly followed their religion. The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case against Anne
Hutchinson is important because

With the Jewish cultural they celebrate Shabbat, Passover, You Kippur, Sukkot, and Hanukkah. The Shabbat is considered the most important of all Jewish holidays. It is the day of rest and weekly observance of God s completion of creation. Shabbat starts on a Friday night an hour before sunset, it lasts for 25 hour until sunset on Saturday night. It is the most solemn day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement offers an entire day devoted to self examination. Many spend the day in synagogue devoted to prayer and study while abstaining from food and drink. The goal is to begin the New Year with a clean slate, which can be good for many of the Jews who do bad things and need a new start at life. And after that would come Sukkot. This seven day festival celebrates the fall harvest and also commemorates the time when the Hebrews dwelt in the Sinai wilderness on their way to the Promised land of Israel, which is important for the Jewish people because they don t want to end up in what they called pit of fire. Also, the holiday is celebrated by building (and then dwelling in) ceremonial huts called Sukkot. Finally comes Hanukkah. This beloved eight day winter festival celebrates the miracle of a small cruse of oil when it burned for eight days, instead of only one. It also celebrates the military victory of the Jewish Maccabees over the powerful Syrian Greek army in 167 BCE. The victory was followed by a rededication(Hanukkah) of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. It is from this act that the holiday gets its name, which I find very interesting because of something so small created a holiday. • 7. Effects Of School Achievement On Children School achievement outcomes are also life impacting. Often the only way out of poverty is an education that can provide them with a job which can meet their income needs. If a child s school achievement is affected by poverty, they have a higher chance of dropping out and continuing poverty in their generation. Effects of school achievement are measured by if the child has repeated a grade, suspended or expelled, and/or dropped out before graduating. A large amount of children that live in poverty will repeat a grade due to limit educational tools to provide them with practice at home. If the child has behavior problem, then they may be expelled for acting out or misbehaving, this affects their learning as they are not in class learning. The percentage of children living poverty that are affected by school achievement outcomes are 2 3 times greater than children not living in in this state of being. Emotional or behavior outcomes are measured by tantrums, outbursts and aggression, this usually persist beyond the normal age range expected. Poor children suffer from emotional and/or behavior outcomes more often than children living in non poverty. These effects are displayed at school and at home, occasionally in public places such as the mall, and causes disturbances such as violence. Emotional problems also include internal problems such as anxiety and depression, which can cause the child to disassociate themselves from social opportunities. These children are often ... • 9. Bondocks And Black Dynamite Analysis Racism is still an issue in the United States of America. Many authors of satirical cartoons such as The Boondocks and Black Dynamite have emphasized these events in a satirical manner to try to get the American public involved and stop the racial oppression that is occurring. However, many audience members do not take these types of shows seriously and view them as a joke rather than a serious topic. As the majority of audience members not taking satirical shows such as The Boondocks and Black Dynamite seriously has led to the support of racism instead of the abolishment of it. Cartoons such as The Boondocks and Black Dynamite highlight racial beliefs and pokes fun at the ignorance behind them. For instance, a scene from The Boondocks depicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This misinterpretation is due to audience members coming from different cultural backgrounds resulting in many viewers finding some parts of the show humorous while others find it offensive (Habib, 2008). The cultural backgrounds that the audience members come from may also affect as to how much they know about other cultures and not just their own. This is what many African American people fear when shows such as The Boondocks and Black Dynamite are aired on television since the cartoons might give a negative representation of the African American community and reinforce stereotypes (Rockler, 2002 p. 409). Instances of these misinterpretations can be found throughout multiple episodes of The Boondocks and Black Dynamite. For instance, in The Boondocks episode, Granddad s Fight, written by Aaron McGruder and Rodney Barnes the theme of the episode was that nigga moments end badly. Throughout the episode Robert J. Freeman prepares to fight Colonel H. Stinkmeaner, a blind old man, since Stinkmeaner made Robert look like a fool by beating him up in a parking lot. Huey, Robert s grandson, trains Robert since Huey believes that Stinkmeaner is a blind swordsman, but in the end, Huey realizes he was wrong. However, Huey was too late and was unable to talk his granddad, Robert, out of fighting Stinkmeaner resulting in Stinkmeaner s death, which leads to the overall theme that nigga moments end badly (2005). The overall message that McGruder and Barnes were trying to make in this episode is that the African American community needs to stop living up to their stereotypes and realize the way they represent their culture when they perform these actions. Throughout this episode, there are multiple scenes of the authors purpose such as Huey continuously trying to convince his grandfather, Robert, from going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the game, you can also visit The Nether infested with Zombie pigmen and Ghasts, The End home to the Enderdragon and Endermen, and another dimension which will be released in the 1.9 update. Four game modes can be chosen at the start of the game. They are Survival, Creative, Adventure, and Hardcore. Survival is the main mode in Minecraft, it adds a health and hunger meter and players must survive in a blocky world full of mobs (enemies). If you die in this mode, you will lose all your items and experience and teleport back to the spawn. Creative removes the health and hunger bar and let s the player fly and have unlimited blocks. Adventure is a mode commonly used on player submitted maps, this prevents the player from breaking anything unless they have the right tool. Hardcore is exactly like Survival, but when players die the world resets and the player has to start over. Survival, Adventure, and Hardcore can have set difficulties. In Peaceful difficulty, no mobs will spawn and players will not starve. In Easy difficulty, mobs will spawn and when a player starves, he or she will lose half of their health. In Medium difficulty, mobs will be much stronger and when you starve you will lose ¾ of your health. In Hard difficulty, mobs will be much stronger, much faster, and have more health. • 21. The Tempest-Motif In this motif tracing, I argue that the epithet monster is used as an agent of othering, a way to remove Caliban from the other characters and depict him as something other than human. In Shakespeare s The Tempest, Caliban s name is only said eight times, while he is addressed as monster the rest of the 34 times he is spoken to. This motif is used to belittle and dehumanize a unique character that plays an essential role in the plot. Shakespeare s use of this epithet combined with Caliban s servile role, restraint of his speech to simple diction, and portrayal as an insurgent, causes the uncultured native to be born. This plays into the 16th century view of the native: one who is there to serve the more sophisticated, knowledgeable masters. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From 1830 1870, people began to voice their opinions of the divided nation, raising much conflict. Italy, before its process of revolution began, was mostly ruled by foreign powers and absolute monarchs. The country s citizens decided they wanted a change in their government and freedom from their rulers. In the beginning, the revolt was not organized and resulted in failure until they united and fought as one large group. Roman Myths And Hippolytus Myth Myths are stories describing the activities of the gods and larger than life humans, which were manipulated for different functions to highlight different values and ideologies resulting in different versions. I agree with the statement and will argue that Roman foundation myths and Hippolytus myth were used by ancient societies to bind its members into a cohesive unit. This essay will explore the ways in which myths brought members of an ancient society together by instilling and reinforcing civic identity and pride, explore how the role of myths defined, unified and divided Roman society, and discuss how myths were used to reinforce social conventions whilst allowing exploration of social tensions and issues. The Roman foundation myths became popular at this point due to their ability to unite society through common origins and displace political differences, helping Emperor Augustus to solidify his reign. The myths included the origins of Rome s core political and religious institutions (Hughes and Hope, 2010, p.108), recounted in Livy s The Early Histories of Rome. Livy (2010, p.23) credits Romulus with founding Rome by the giving of laws, without which the creation of a unified body politic would not have been possible and the adoption of certain visible signs of power like the twelve lectors to attend him, the curule chair, purple bordered togas and the creation of the Senate. Augustus used these myths and the ideas associated with Aeneas and Romulus to communicate his ideology of tradition and innovation. Augustus implemented Livy s (2010, p.17) idea that in history you can find for yourself and your country both examples and warnings; fine things to take as models, base things, rotten through and through, to avoid . He did this by restoring sites associated with Rome s early heroes and representing them around the city and in his new imperial forum alluding that his regime was consistent with the ideals and values of Rome s ancient past. • 25. The Design And Production Of Artifacts Neri Oxman Introduction Over the long trajectory of architectural design history, the design and production of artifacts has been characterized by the growing separation of form making from its natural foundations in material conditions. In contradistinction to craft production (Sennett 2008) in which material and form are naturally intertwined into a tradition of making, modern design and production have historically evolved away from this integration towards the compartmentalization of form making as a process independent of its sources in material knowledge. At least since the Renaissance, with the emergence of architectural theories, form making, as the production of form inspired by theory, has become an autonomous body of knowledge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, this non material approach to the design and the automation of construction were to be reinforced under the command of computer aided design. The digital revolution, which marked the change from analog to digital technology, has transformed the designer?s drafting board into a digital canvas. Form, it seemed, was now divorced completely from the physical reality of its manifestation. Granted, these new design spaces afforded much liberation in terms of formal expression, but it has also broadened the gap between form and matter and made the hierarchical and sequential separation of modeling, analysis and fabrication processes infinitely more pronounced. The implementation and broad absorption of enhanced computational design tools in architectural practice has, since the early nineties, motivated a renaissance of the formalist project in architecture; geometrically complex shapes became emblems of creativity in digital design environments and supported the design mastery of complex geometries in form generation. This formal and geometric design orientation has also addressed ?free form? design and architecture along with their enabling technologies as part of the larger design phenomenon of the ?mass customization? of ?non standard? form. • 30. Declaration Of Independence Rhetorical Analysis 1B) The Declaration of Independence uses several rhetorical strategies, making the argumentative testament of the wrongdoings of the king an effective in pursuing equality for all men. Jefferson utilizes logos, pathos and ethos to prove his point to the country holding their liberty prisoner. Jefferson s use of logos begins with stating the obvious reason the king should set the people free: the people have the right to the pursuit of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness (2). The King has not done good to the people, in fact he has refused to pass the laws necessary to create order, dissolved representative houses, cut off trade, and imposed unlawful taxes upon the people. They have the basic human rights given to them by God that should set them free from the tyrannical king. Some of the emotional side of Jefferson s views slip into this argument, such as mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable (5). While stating further wrongdoings, Jefferson s use of pathos increases, raising the rage of the republic at the injustice of the rules they have been subjected to. He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation (26). • 31. Muscles Upper Arm The muscles of your shoulder are strongly involved whenever you throw a punch. Your anterior deltoids, located on the front of your shoulders, work with your pectoralis major muscles to push your arm out towards the opponent. Once you have hit the opponent, your middle trapezius, rhomboids and latissimus dorsi draw your arm back ready for you to throw another punch. The Muscles of the Upper Arm Extending your arm is down to your triceps brachii. This is located on the rear of your upper arm, and is the powerful muscle that quickly pushes your elbow out so that you can reach your opponent. Your biceps brachii which are located on the front of your upper arm, are responsible for bending your elbow as you pull your arm back into your original guard position again, ready to throw more punches. In the upper arm there is a pair of muscles which work together to perform these movements; the biceps being the antagonist as it relaxes during an extension of an arm which means the triceps is the agonist as it tenses. ... • 32. Madeleine Vionnet Research Paper Madeleine Vionnet was born in France in 1876 and was apprenticed to a dressmaker while she was a child (Arnold, 2015). At the age of eleven, Mme. Madeline realized the gift of her hands and became a seamstress. In the early 1900s, she began her career in a couture house in Paris, Callot Soeurs (Arnold, 2015). Mr. Doucet was a fashion designer and art collector. Here, Vionnet s first collection was considered a revolution in the house and for its time. Unfortunately, an ageing Doucet could not keep up with the taste of women after World War I. Vionnet never learned sketching, but developed skills in dressmaking in haute couture before opening her own establishment in 1912 (Kirke, 1998). During 1920, the war had passed and people were ready to push aside the old trends. When the prohibition law passed, jazz music and new dances became all the rage. • 33. The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case Against Anne Hutchinson The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case Against Anne Hutchinson is a transcription of a court trial. The document was written in 1637 by an unnamed person, who worked for the court. It was written to keep a record of the trial and to set a precedent for future trials. Anne Hutchinson was on trial for holding and practicing beliefs that were considered threatening to the stability of the church and community. Anne Hutchinson was convicted of antinomianism and was subsequently excommunicated from the colony. After leaving Massachusetts Bay, Anne went on to help found Portsmouth, Rhode Island. After Portsmouth, Anne Hutchinson went to Long Island where she was killed. Anne Hutchinson was on trial when The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case against Anne Hutchinson was written. The document reveals many things about the Puritans religious beliefs and way of life. Massachusetts Bay was founded in 1629. By 1640, 20,000 people had migrated to Massachusetts. The founders of the colony traveled to America because they were not in control of the church in England. The puritans knew that they would be able to practice their religion freely in America. They wanted to create a better England that was ruled by their religious beliefs. The Puritans knew that this was possible in America, so, they left England. Once the puritans reached Massachusetts Bay they created extreme laws that strictly followed their religion. The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case against Anne Hutchinson is important because ...
