Venus And Adonis
The painting is said to be influenced by but not modeled after Titian s Venus and Adonis. At first
glance, one notices how the painting looks so effortless. Rubens takes advantage of the space he has;
the elaborate shadowing gives the painting more depth. When studying the background, one realize
the foreshortening of the trees. It gives off the illusion that the trees are at more distance than Venus
and Adonis are. When looking at the shading and hues it is amazing how the shades come together and
how the details of the figures are. The bodies have detail, you can see the curve of Venus waist. One
notices more details the longer it is observed.
The style that characterizes Rubens magnificent piece is the baroque style. This style is described ...

Nudity has been an essential aspect in Western art. After the Renaissance, this is when the nudity was
exploited as humans in their natural state. The nude form first was conquered by the ancient Greeks
from approximately two thousand five hundred years ago. The Greeks celebrated the human body and
cultivated the mastery of the human body through these sculptures of David. Rubens captures the
nudity of Venus and makes her seen pure and compelling. When taking a glance at this masterpiece,
one is immediately fixated and dragged in, it is a piece that cannot be missed. Ruben s expression in
this piece can be defined as timeless. Historians conclude that besides the magnificent Michelangelo,
no other painter had a greater knowledge of the human body and visual power as Rubens. This is how
he is able to cultivate these mythological pieces, and incorporate much detail. There is much life in
Rubens painting, through the vibrant hues and how he depicts Venus and Adonis as these massive
creatures. Figures depicted in art are more often nude then one would think. It is seen the human body
is at its ideal state when artist depict the figure as nude. It is seemed as heroic because humans are
compelled to see how artist illustrate the human body. Hence why the male and female body is the
central theme of western art. When thinking about the human form, there is nothing more compelling,
which is why the theme is still prominent in modern and contemporary

Ithaca Field Trip
For my field trip, I decided to visit the Sciencecenter in Ithaca New York. The science center is a
nonprofit organization, the center was found in 1983. Where mostly volunteers from local elementary
schools performed hands on experiments for children. Today the Sciencenter is known as a museum
with over 250 different exhibits/ experiments, they also have many different events that take place
such as Story time for preschoolers and events that have to deal with science in nature, innovations,
chemistry and much more. The Sciencenter offer s activities for children of any age! Although the
Sciencenter is mainly volunteer based, the executive is Charles Trautmann. The Sciencenter is located

Falk s fourth grade classroom we are learning about insects, their life span and how they survive in the
environment. To promote and more hands on approach and experience from science experts our class
would like to Visit the Ithaca Sciencenter. During the field trip, students will have the opportunity to
do hands on experiments, and create a discovery boxes. Students will also be able to participate in the
exhibit: Attack of the Bloodsuckers! This exhibit includes: learn about the science behind bug bites.
This includes mosquitos, fleas, ticks, leeches, and other parasites. The first activity was to solve a
puzzle using the eyes of a mosquito, next students would match bug mouths to the type of food each
insect eats. Then students match magnified and unmagnified images of blood sucker. Finally, students
find different scents in a way a bloodsucker would. By getting a chance to go to the Sciencenter
students will meet the following Elementary Science Core Curriculum: Standard 1: Analysis, Inquiry,
and Design, standard 2: Information Systems, standard 6: Models. The cost of the field trip would be
free; however, I must email Josh Giblin as it takes a few weeks to process a field trip request. For any
additional information, I will provide the link to the Sciencenter website.

Practices And Influence Of The Criminal Legal System
Abstract The criminal legal system has an effect on the life of every American, and it is therefore of
vital public interest to facilitate it functioning optimally. This can only be accomplished with a more
comprehensive understanding of this system. Building on the work of Martin and Cohn (2004) and
Wu, Lake and Cao (2015), this study sought to better understand the system through the
administration of a self report survey. This survey measured participant Attitudes Toward the Criminal
Legal System (ATCLS) and Belief in a Just World (BJW), in addition to collecting demographic
information. The sample included 221 participants from Southern California, including 102 males and
119 females. There were limitations, including the use of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Because of this, it is important to measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as
understanding of where these attitudes diverge in society could provide an indication of where to
focus efforts towards reform and improvement of the system. It is also important to explore the
relationship between a belief in a just world and attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as the
former had a significant impact on the validation of the latter (Martin Cohn, 2004). In addition,
exploring the relationship between these factors and past criminal behavior is vital to generating a
more detailed and comprehensive view of the issues at hand. To measure attitudes towards the
criminal legal system and legal socialization, Martin and Cohn (2004) proposed the Attitudes Toward
the Criminal Legal System Scale (ATCLS). Across five studies, they sought to validate their scale
through measuring the correlation between the results of several surveys, including the Belief in a Just
World Scale (BJW), and the ATCLS scale. The goal of the first two studies was to establish reliability
and validity for the ATCLS scale, and the goal of the third study was to establish test retest reliability
of the ATCLS scale. The goal of the final two studies was to replicate the results of the prior three
studies with samples not drawn from student populations. These studies indicated that the ATCLS
survey has

Research Paper On Airport Interview
The location of the interview was in the boardroom of the Hector International Airport. The attendees
of the meeting were Kaitlyn Anderson, Stacie Tjon Bossart, Corey Quinton and Jim Koehler. Kaitlyn
is the daughter of Darren Anderson, who was the driver of the airport s Chevrolet Traverse, the subject
vehicle that was involved in the accident. Kaitlyn appeared at the interview wearing a sweat suit. She
is 18 years old and a freshman at studying pharmaceutical medicine at North Dakota State University.
She lives at home with her parents and her younger sister. She made a nice appearance during the
interview and was able to keep composed during most of the meeting. Overall, she will make an above
average witness.
Kaitlyn was in the vehicle with Darren Anderson at the time of the accident because he was excited
about the construction project going on that involved the runway and wanted to bring her out to see
the project. They arrived at the airport at approximately 11:00 PM on July 30, 2017. They walked
through the administration section of the airport and then got into the airport s Chevy Traverse.
Kaitlyn reported that the Traverse is equipped with amber warning lights on the top; however, she was
not certain if the lights were activated at any time that night.
Kaitlyn and her father drove out onto Runway 18 36, which was closed due to the construction and a
restriping project, and they parked near the intersection of Runway 18 36 and Runway 9 27. Her dad
got out of the vehicle and had a conversation with Henry Swedberg, from the airport, and another
gentleman also from the airport, regarding the work that was ongoing that night. Kaitlyn got out of the
vehicle to say hello to Henry and then both she and her dad got into the vehicle to escort the painting
truck down the middle of Runway 18 36. (Escort vehicles, which are in radio contact with the tower,
must accompany all non airport vehicles on the runways.)
West River Striping was repainting the center line of Runway 18 36 from taxiway C through the south
end of the runway. After they escorted the large painting truck to the south end of Runway 18 36,
Darren Anderson indicated that they needed to go back to the intersection of Runway

Essay On Mississippi History
Mississippi has a very rich history, and its history has made it the glorious state it is today. The first
inhabitants of Mississippi were the Native Americans; the three main tribes were the Chickasaw
Indians who settled in the north and eastern parts of the state, the Choctaw Indians who lived in the
middle part of the state, and the Natchez Indians who occupied the southwest region of the state.
Many present day cities in Mississippi get their names from these early tribes. Hernando De Soto was
the first European to explore the state. He was from Spain and came in search of gold. When he did
not find great riches in gold, De Soto moved on to explore other regions of North America. Next came
the French explorer, Robert Cavalier who claimed the entire Mississippi Valley for France in 1682.
The first French settlement was started in Biloxi which today is called Ocean ... Show more content on

On December 10th, 1817 Mississippi became the 20th state of the Union. Slaves were used to operate
the large plantations, and, in fact, slaves outnumbered the white settlers by 1860. The Civil War
marked a big change in Mississippi. With the election of Abraham Lincoln, slavery was abolished.
Many Civil War battles were fought in Mississippi. The most notable was the Battle of Vicksburg
where Union and Confederate forces fought for 47 straight days. Much of Mississippi lay in ruins after
the war and had to be rebuilt. The lumber industry flourished during this period of reconstruction. The
Great Depression was a very hard time for Mississippians. Many farmers lost their land between 1929
and 1930. Cotton prices fell dramatically and many people were living in poverty. With the coming of
World War II industry soared and the building of an oil refinery once again made the state s economy
successful. By the late 1960 s there were more workers in manufacturing than there were farmers for

The Threat, Responsibility, And Solutions Climate Change...
The Threat, Responsibility, and Solutions to Climate Change and Global Warming
If the Maldives cannot be saved today we do not feel that there is much of a chance for the rest of the
world. said Former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, while sitting underwater signing a
document calling for global reduction in carbon emissions. He is right, if we do not start improving
the climate right now, our world will soon be under water like the lowest nation, the Maldives which
is predicted to be submerged by 2085. This paper will focus on four questions: Why climate change,
or global warming, is real? Why do human beings take major responsibility for it? Why is it a top
priority of every nation? And why can we believe that together you and I are able to tackle it?
Despite numerous irrefutable evidence, many people including scientists, experts, and politicians still
deny the existence and urgency of climate change as well as human responsibility for the problem. In
their opinions, climate change is no more than a hoax of scientists and climatologists. In a 2014
survey, a senior writer at The Huffington Post, Carolyn Gregoire concluded 23 percent of Americans
said they did not believe in global warming, and 53 percent said it was not human caused. President
elect Donald Trump who is among the global warming denials, wrote on his Twitter the concept of
global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non

Shah Isma il’s Establishes a Persian State
Safawid rule over Persia originates from Shah Isma il s capture of Tabriz after hisvictory over the Aq
Qoyunlu ruler Alwand at Sharur in 1501 A.D. However, before Isma il could be regarded the
successor to the Aq Qoyunlu in Azarbayjan he would have to defeat the ozbegs and the Ottomans to
produce a contiguous Persian State. This would take decades to accomplish. Overall, The Safawid
state established by Shah Isma il relied on three elements to maintain power. The first was the loyalty
of the Qizilbash tribesmen providing a military capacity to the shah in his capacity as head of the
Safawid order. The second was the local bureaucracy, recruited especially from members of the urban
population of the cities of central Persia. This was an essential part of the machinery of maintaining
governing power once the military conquest was over. The third and perhaps the most important
element was the State s new official faith, the Twelver variety of Shi ism, whose adherents accept a
line of twelve infallible imams, beginning with Ali and ending with Muhammad al Mahdi. It is likely
that a large majority of the Persian people at the time that Shah Isma il began to establish his influence
adhered to the Sunni branch of Islam. The initial years of the Safawid dynasty brought on conversion
to Shi ism as compulsory for the entire population. Why conversion was necessary is not immediately
clear, but the form of Shi ism chosen by Shah Isma il was certainly not the

Advantages Of Digital Innovators
What makes Disruptors so Powerful
As mentioned earlier, the fewer entry barriers faced by digital disruptors give them a competitive
advantage. Earlier competitors of traditional incumbent firms found it difficult to enter markets on
account of inability to replicate distributional networks or access natural resources. The Baines limit
pricing of keeping the price equal to marginal cost also posed a limit to entry of firms. With onset of
digitalization, these challenges of entry barriers do not exist, as technology provides a cutting edge to
the disruptors. The digital innovators are able to achieve economies of scale at a faster pace. The
digital platforms once innovated, enables these disruptors to produce goods at almost zero marginal
cost. The marginal cost of another E book copy or another user page on a ... Show more content on

Just as one issue has been identified the next comes up; a market is finally defined just in time to
watch it morphing into something else. The main regulatory challenge is to provide a future proof
framework which maintains its relevance no matter how the market develops. Key words here are
technology neutrality and ex post rather than ex ante regulation. Competitive imbalances between
traditional providers and new market players must be evaluated and, as far as necessary and possible,
be reflected in new regulation. The governance problems raised by digital technologies threaten to
further erode state autonomy, as non state actors are empowered to resolve major societal disputes
(Rosenau and Singh, 2002). Alongside facilitating the development of the communications market to
the benefit of the country, the basic rights of individuals and society must also be protected by legal
and regulatory measures. And a last, but vital, aspect of regulation is that it should provide the market
players with business security they must be able to understand and trust the framework in which they

Interview, A Licensed Social Worker And Write An...
For Mrs. Hewes the Introduction to Social Work class we were asked to interview a licensed Social
Worker and write an experience paper about the interview. Finding a social worker to interview wasn t
very hard for me because many of my mother s friends got their masters in social work, but not many
of them actually got their license except for one of them. The licensed social worker that I interviewed
goes by the name of Tanya Hill. Tanya got her Masters of Social Work at Florida State University in
Tallahassee, Florida in 2000, as well as her license and she now resides in Panama City, Florida. Tanya
is someone that I have known since I was a little girl and someone that I definitely aspire to be like
once I graduate. My interview with Tanya was over the phone since I did not have time to drive back
to Florida to do a face to face one, but while we were on the phone every answer she gave me to the
questions I asked were quite interesting. The first question I asked during the interview was, How long
have you been working with this agency? In this field? Tanya s response was that she has been Self
Employed for 16 years. When I asked Tanya if the agency was public or private or a non profit or for
profit, she said that she was a for profit solo practitioner. Another question that I had to ask her is,
What population do you serve? , her response was Developmentally Disabled Children and Adults. I

Jefferson And Andrew Jackson
Both Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson believed that they positively influenced the people of the
United States. These two Presidents considered themselves as helping the common interests of the
people, yet had different and similar approaches to running the government and conducting
Presidential tasks. Thomas Jefferson, elected in 1800, had different views on the National Government
and its affairs compared to Jackson (Davidson and Stoff 310). Jefferson believed that the states should
have more power than the Federal Government, essentially supporting a limited central government
(311). Also, in regards to foreign affairs and expansion, Jefferson chose to handle them peacefully
instead of forcefully (315 and 324). Within the country, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, Jackson believed that the Federal Government should have more power over the state
legislatures, in order to maintain a stable and effective U.S. government for all to see. This difference
is supported by Jackson s arguments against nullification (365). Nullification is the action of a state to
cancel any objectionable federal law (364). The support against nullification means that Jackson did
not believe that the states should be able to object to any federal laws; assering the Federal
Government s dominance over the states. Within this argument, Jackson issued a document known as
the Proclamation to the People of South Carolina (365). This proclamation stated that, even if the state
of South Carolina supported nullification and President Jackson did not, South Carolina could not
threaten to leave the Union. This was named treason in the document. It was released in response to an
attempt by South Carolina to nullify tariffs placed on textiles in 1828 (364). In a final display of
Federal Government power, Jackson passed a law which allowed members of the government to
forcefully collect tariffs if necessary (365). In this situation with South Carolina, it is clear that an irate
President Jackson was keen on showing the country the power of the American Federal Government.
On the other hand, President Jefferson fired government employees as part of his Revolution. Despite

Decline In Youth Sports
The decline in youth sports is affecting many people around the world today and it isn t just the kids
themselves, or parents with children, it includes the average person. If the participation in youth sports
continues to decline everyone will be affected in a negative way. As a society we need to get our kids
back into sports so they can receive the benefits and the life lessons that they will hold onto for the
rest of their lives. Sports can be a very important thing in many children s lives and it will have a
positive effect on them forever.

Cost is a huge problem when it comes to kids participating in youth sports. According to athlete
intelligence parents in the United States spend an average of $671 per year to cover different costs for
sports. These costs may include the participation fee, uniforms, lessons, or coaching from a private
club. As the kids get older they start participating in traveling leagues which can also be very costly.
Overtime all of those things add up and can become very costly for families This is just in youth
sports only, and the cost has increased and has been on the rise.
Another problem would be under trained coaches or coaches that are not properly taught how to coach
young children in youth sports. Farrey (2013) Only 1 in 5 coaches of youth teams of children under
age 14 say they have been trained in effective motivational technique, and just 1 in 3 in skills and
tactics in the primary sport they coach . Most of the coaches in youth sports today are fathers that have
a kid in the sport, so that might be why they are coaching in the first place. Also they haven t been
properly trained in the first place. According to NRPA there are roughly 3.5 million coaches in youth
sports and the majority of them are volunteer coaches that lack the training to coach these kids. They
are unable to teach the correct fundamentals and developmental skills to these kids, while at the same

Confucianism Bring Harmony In Society
According to The Analects, Confucianism brings harmony by not doing things to others that you
wouldn t want done to yourself. Confucianists follow Ren and Li. Ren (humility) is when one is kind,
benevolent, and has humaneness towards others. Li is the rituals, rites, etiquette and propriety which
lead to peace and harmony. Ren brings harmony by someone giving love and being equal. I believe
that ren really does bring harmony into a society because when someone has a lot of pride, it ruins a
lot for them, people don t really look at them as a humble person. Humility actually makes you be a
better person because you accept when you make errors and not making yourself look as a very
important person (this doesn t mean someone feels worthless or bad about themselves). Whereas, Li
brings harmony by knowing and accepting where you stand in society. The best example I could think
of is respect. You have to respect whom is above you. For example it is my obligation to respect my
older sisters because I m younger than them. In class, I was told that if everyone does the proper thing,
society will function well and will lead to peace and harmony. Whereas, Taoism brings harmony by
accepting things the way they are. The concepts of Yin and Yang bring harmony to Taoists. Yin and
yang represent the fluidity of the universe. Yin meaning dark, passive, female and yang meaning light,
active, male. None of them are bad or evil, they are just different. They are complementary not

American History X Incarceration Theory
Introduction American History X is a film that describes the story of a white supremacist, Derek
Vineyard, who learns through his prison experience that his beliefs are erroneous. During his time in
prison, Derek was forced to cohabitate amongst non white individuals, coercing him to reconsider his
prior Neo Nazi principles. After serving his sentence, Derek realizes that he must save his younger
brother from emulating his example. By analyzing the substantial aspects of prison life (preliminary
adjustment to prison life, prison experience, prison subculture and rehabilitation), as demonstrated in
the film, it can be determined that the film American History X can be used as a realistic tool for
creating awareness of the consequences of being incarcerated and the effects that prison can have on
an individual after they have been released. Furthermore, numerous theories such as argot roles, the

However, there are many inmates who are unable to cope well with the pains of imprisonment.
Maladaptive responses such as emotional disorders, self harm and suicide attempts are the most
common during the initial phases of incarceration (Adams, 1992*pg. 275*). Being barred from the
outside world, prisoners develop coping mechanisms that allow them to deal with the pains of
incarceration. According to Thomas and Foster, two theoretical models have emerged in response to
the coping mechanisms demonstrated by inmates. These two models signify the rudimentary
perceptions pertaining to the patterns found in response to incarceration. The first is the importation
model, which uses individual level inmate characteristics that were established prior to imprisonment
to explain prison experience (Power, et al., 1997). On the other hand, the deprivation model suggests
that the environment of prison itself explains the experience prisoners have (Cooley,

directed by Stephen Frears remains just about faithful to the epistolary novel, Dangerous Liaisons, by
Choderlos de Laclos. Stephen Frears does betray the novel towards the end of the film but, it makes
the ending that much more better and enticing. The film represents what the epistolary novel only
hints at us readers. The novel is composed of letters where we only get a sense of the characters
thoughts and emotions. The film tries to put those words into action but only showing one version of
each scene. It is different in which the writer of the novel is using words while the film maker is using
pictures to describe what s happening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest betrayal the film makes to the novel is the ending. The film ends when Merteuil goes to
the opera to find out she is hated by everyone there, she goes back to her room and it ends with her
removing her makeup, her destiny is left unknown. In the book, she gets a very painful case of small
pox and loses sight in one of her eyes after her letters to Valmont have been published. When Merteuil
removes her makeup at the end of the film, she is wiping away the surface that made her attractive, her
desirability is being wiped away. Her power has been based on her appearance and her destruction of
her face symbolizes her destruction of herself. Merteuil no longer is the strong feminist she use to be,
she is now a weak woman just like Tourvel. I think the director made a good choice in changing the
ending of the film. I was shocked and somewhat happy to see Merteuil finally get what she deserved.
The jaw dropper for me was when she fell while leaving the opera it symbolized her reputation falling
too. Everyone use to look up to Merteuil and she would control them like puppets and now the roles
have been turned. For me the ending of the movie was a lot more satisfying and jaw dropping.
Merteuil tried everything in her power to win the game of revenge and it back fired on her. Vicomte de
Valmont s character in the novel and film are very faithful to each other. Valmont, who is a

The name of the video I viewed was Ch10. Gender Development . I viewed this video at 8:14 PM on
April 27, 2016. The video begins with the narrator introducing a woman that is studying the effects of
how we treat children on gender development. Her name is Dr. Caroline Smith. She is sitting at a desk
watching a baby and a mother interact. The video then shows her telling a mother about a baby that
she will be playing with while she studies them. The narrator explains that Dr. Smith does a study
using mothers. She asks the mothers to play with children that they have never met previously. She
analyzes the difference between how others act towards boys that towards girls. Different mothers are
shown playing with different children. Dr. Smith

The Four Noble Truths
Buddhism first appeared in India between the 5th and 6th BCE and is considered to be one of the
oldest practiced religion and philosophy. It is a way of life that is governed by a series of passages and
countless rules. These passages and rules are meant to enable an individual to further their growth as
an agent of transformations to reach the ultimate goal of enlightenment. Though Buddhism, as its
original form, is a strict and non peruvious practice of life, it provides of practical outlook on life and
how one should be with their environment. The first teaching or the first Dharma, dictated by
Siddhartha Gautama, were the Four Noble Truths. Not only are the four noble truths the backbone of
Buddhism and they help us understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dukkha which refers to something that is bad and therefore unsubstantial is the first noble truth. It is
the realization that life itself is suffering. Dukkha is death, decay, grief, destruction and despair. It
comprises of the imbalances of life, attachments, and the disturbances of life that cause disharmony. It
is quite difficult to accept dukkha as truth because the human mind is fragile and isn t capable of
accepting the disturbing or upsetting. The human mind is only capable of simplifying life s
complexities and ignoring what may be traumatizing. Life is only blissful when one dilutes themselves
with false pretenses of happiness and lives in ignorance. One only needs to open their eyes to see that
dukkha exists and is abundantly all around us. No one in the human race has ever existed only to live a
life of blissfulness void of death, grief, sadness, or despair. Even supposing that there was an
individual born into a life of of happiness it doesn t change the fact that they live in this world. A
world where social communication is inevitable and consequently causes human to meet others that
are less fortunate or live lives of destitute or unhappiness. Therefore the man that lives in the world of
human life, is a victim of Dukkha regardless of his own happiness. Even maintenance of the good
things in life, such as good health, is a form of agony and attachment Duhhka. Duhhka can even be the

Between Two Heps Interview
Between Two Hemps: Interview with Tomas Name It was typical hot friday afternoon in Miami,
Florida where I encountered Mr. Tomas Name, a current law student, at the set rendezvous(Tijuana
Flats). The good sir eager to start the interview received me with an ecstatic grin and said let us get to
it. Of course after ordering the mega burritos, I got the tape recorder and we began the interview about
the war on drugs, Mr. Tomas favorite subject. Immediately with a fire starter question like what are
your current thoughts on the U.S. Federal drug policy? the gears were set into motion, without a flinch
Mr. Tomas replied, lately it s been getting slightly better, but not enough to call it a success. He also

Next question was do you believe that the War on drug may have escalated due to the Nixon and then
Reagan administration? Without hesitation he responded, absolutely the programs that both of them
implemented were pro war on drugs you can verify this with the tainted studies, their anti drug
propaganda and especially with the public confession of John Ehrlichman, Nixon s Chief domestic
advisor. Mr. Ehrlichman stated that the war on drugs was means to antagonize the hippies and the
African American civil right groups, mainly because they were anti government. Suddenly, I implied
if the U.S. Federal drug policies should remain or change, and why? . He claimed that the U.S. Federal
drug policies should in fact completely change, due to the fact that the current government state is
trying to be like a big brother and fully control what we can and can not put into our bodies when it
should not; they also tried to do the same with alcohol prohibition since it was considered morally

The Importance Of Concealed Weapons In Education
Lastly, concealed weapons should not be allowed on campus as they would distract from a positive
learning experience. College classrooms must be a place where faculty and students feel safe to
express their opinions. While, the introduction of handguns could inhibit dialog among students by
creating an atmosphere of fear of retaliation from someone that disagrees with a fellow student s
opinion. Teachers may feel trepidation or hesitant to criticize a difficult student s work for fear of the
possibility the student could be carrying a concealed weapon. In order to, promote a positive education
students must feel comfortable in their environment to flourish. This would be diminished if college
classrooms were filled with armed students. Furthermore,

Examples Of Conformity In The Giver
We all know what it feels like, to go to a new school and the excitement that follows. Then you go in
the building and suddenly the mood changes, everyone is staring at you. The excitement is only
distant memories and it makes you uncomfortable and you might even hate the school on first sight. If
conformity is put into place, then everyone will be happier and safer. I think conformity helps our
society by creating a more harmonized, safer, and a more balanced community.
Conformity is better than individualism as in the communities are safer. The novel The Giver by Lois
Lowry tells us about their conformitized community. Jonas, on page 63, says to the reader that the
community is extremely protective of every one in the community and that

Richard Nixon s Involvement In The Watergate Scandal
On August 9, 1974, Richard Nixon resigned from his post as President of the United States of America
in ignominy. His resignation was prompted by mounting accusations of his involvement in the
Watergate scandal, perhaps the biggest scandal the country has ever seen. The Watergate scandal was a
series of events started by the break in to the Democratic Party headquarters by members connected to
the Nixon campaign with the orders to steal confidential plans. President Gerald Ford later issued a
presidential pardon, but many Americans could not forgive Nixon for his involvement. The Watergate
Scandal distracted the history books from one of the most productive presidencies in history.

Nixon s accomplishments in domestic affairs still have a positive effect today. The tensions of racism
were calmed with the desegregation of schools. Women gained more rights and respect. Ultimately,
these domestic programs may be remembered longer than his currently better known activities in the
realm of foreign policy, and they may even minimize his negative Watergate image. In any case, they
represent the most positive characteristics of the Nixon phenomenon. In fact, the Age of Nixon that
would end in the denouement of disgrace, actually reached its climax in the area of domestic reform
(Hoff 144).

Comparing Poems Suicide Note And The Mother
Poetry Paper
Everyone believes that someone is perfect in life in other words that is not true. Although Suicide
Note by Janice Mirikitani focuses on disappointment, and The Mother by Gwendolyn Brooks touches
more on an emotional topic of abortion. This allows you to see that the decisions a person makes in
life, have a great impact on others. Both poems convey on how they feel about death and failure.
In the poem Suicide Note Mirikitani talks about the failures she had in life. For example Each failure
,a glacier (26). With this metaphor the reader understands what college student is going through. They
also use symbolism for flying this sparrow (40). This helps express her thoughts about herself. She
indicates that if she were a boy her parents would love her more, and be able to strive, higher in life.
The poet uses this to let reader have an image on how some girls feel. In addition the reader believes
that everyone is different regardless what gender they are, don t give up the easy way out as the next
poem states. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sloth In Henry Fairlie s The Seven Deadly Sins Today
Change the channels for an hour or two
Sloth (or Acedia), one of the 7 deadly sins in the Christian tradition, can be generally defined as
physically and emotionally shirking one s duties. Henry Fairlie, in The Seven Deadly Sins Today ,
says that Sloth is a state of dejection that gives rise to sluggishness...a poisoning of the will (Fairlie
113). It is this very state that Green Day describes so aptly in their debut single Longview .
Longview describes the life of the slothful person. In the first few lines the slothful person admits to
himself, I m fucking lazy (Armstrong). This general attitude pervades the entire song and the worst
part of the slothful person in Longview is that he understands this is a dejected state of his own
making. He is in a house with unlocked doors but knows that he has essentially locked the door to my
own cell (Armstrong). This is consistent with Fairlie s understanding of the Christian sin. In the same
way the slothful person in the song locks himself away, so does sloth ... Show more content on

Failing to love a good according to its proper measures and failing to carry out corresponding
obligations (sloth) can lead a person, as it does in the song, to seek another distraction, one that
perhaps does not require anything of them. Instead of looking for a job, as his mother requests, the
slothful person in Longview smokes, gets high, and masturbates. Getting high (in my experience at
least) tends to contribute to a state of slothfulness and encourages the shirking of one s obligations.
The masturbation part however, seems to fall under another deadly sin, the sin of lust. Seeking sexual
pleasures in the wrong sort of way and improperly loving persons as the man in Longview is doing
appears to be a symptom of lust. In this way Longview shows the relation between sloth and lust and
how easily one can lead to

The Medical Ethics Of Human Experimentation
When one researches about the medical ethics in human experimentation, it is difficult to disregard the
harsh realities of it. As Leonard Nimoy stated in his role as Spock in the movie, Star Trek II: The
Wrath of Khan, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few . This is the cruel truth that be
seen everywhere, but many people tend to ignore it since it is such a dreary thought. Many people,
especially those in third world countries, are exploited every day. Large corporate companies come to
typically poorer foreign nations, where there is a large gap between the rich and poor, to find cheaper
workers. Many people in these foreigners tend to be desperate for money and immediately sign up for
these jobs. Typical corporations would hire these people and make them work in inhumane working
conditions such as long hours, less pay, and give no sanitation facilities. Although this happens on an
everyday basis, there are very few people out there who challenge the large corporations. This
example can also apply to medical ethics, sometimes a small amount of people have to suffer through
experiments to help the general public. Although this is a morbid thought, it has been used in the past.
During the mid twentieth century, many American scientist believe that experimenting on a few
people and making them suffer would create results that would be very beneficial to the general
public. Today, most modern developed countries don t believe in this ideology, but there are

Culture And Its Impact On Culture
Culture is a combination of many aspects of life that have been passed down for generation. Customs,
beliefs, values and behaviors that become more specified to specific groups that tend to mimic
themselves within a group are the broad range themes that come up when one discusses culture.
Culture can exist on many different planes simultaneously. Culture is subjective and the way in which
specific cultures are defined changes constantly. Researchers Kroeber and Kluckhohn state that
Culture consists of patterns, explicit and implicit, of and for behavior acquired and transmitted by
symbols, constituting the distinctive achievement of human groups, including their embodiments in
artefacts; the essential core of culture consists of traditional (i.e. historically derived and selected)
ideas and especially their attached values; culture systems may, on the one hand, be considered as
products of action, on the other as conditioning elements of further action. (1952, p. 181) This
description of culture largely aligns with generally accepted definitions of culture but briefly considers
that culture can also be a product of action. I believe that culture is grounded in traditions of the past
but suggest that it could not exist without the continued evolution of the key elements that define the
concept. For the purpose of this paper I will describe culture as not only the experiences that came
before but the enduring and modifiable traits that allow culture to be completely unique

Describe the three dedicated circuit network architectures discussed in the textbook. Explain the
strengths and weaknesses of each. Ring Architecture. Has a closed loop with all PC s linked to the
next one. Circuits are full duplex or half duplex, which allows messaging in both directions around the
ring. The fall back is the time in which message can take to travel around the ring from the sender to a
receiver, since the messages have to pass through several different computers and circuits, concluding
in traffic delays which can pile up quickly. Star Architecture connects all the PCs to a central PC
which acts as the message router to an appropriate PC. It s easier to manage because of the central PC
receiving and routing all the messages in the desired network. This allows the communication to be
faster than ring architecture since it only travels through two circuits to reach the receiver. However,
having only one central pc can create more problems since its in change of all the messages on the
network. This creates room for overload in traffic and could potentially decrease performance overall.
Mesh Architecture has every PC connected to very other PC. This is a Full mesh network, and it s
biggest downfall is the high price. However, partial mesh most PC, but not all are connected to each
other. Although it combines star and ring, if

Outstanding Educator Qualities
When reflecting on what makes an outstanding educator, so many qualities came to mind. Educators
have to take on so many roles each and every day, which made distinguishing the most important
qualities more difficult. There are so many qualities that a teacher needs to contain to be considered an
outstanding educator, but in my opinion, there are four qualities that are the most important and
umbrella the many other qualities an educator should have. These four qualities include being
compassionate, knowledgeable and flexible. Every outstanding educator has the honor to impact a
student s life each and every day by what they are teaching them but more importantly how they care
about them. Educators need to be compassionate since they have to build a rapport with each of their
student. Your students need to know that you care about them and their wellbeing before any
academics can be done. An educator without compassion will never be able to impact their students in

educator is not knowledgeable about the concept themselves? This is why it is so important for
educators to continue to learn and grow through professional developments and personal research. As
educators we are lifelong learners, since we are in a constantly changing field. Outstanding educators
are the ones that are constantly learning from their colleges, research and most importantly their

Young Goodman Brown And The Lottery Short Story
The stories we read in class had a lot of distinct similarities in each story. One similarity I saw was; all
the stories introduced their settings in the beginning. Also, all the stories explain some truths about the
world we live in. For example, in The Lottery, this story shows the danger of blindly following
traditions of the community was so used to playing the lottery, that it has become a normal habit for
them not realizing the damage this lottery is causing them and the people who has to lose their life for
it. Another example, in The Lottery, is when Mrs. Delacroix turned against her good friend Tessie by
picking up the largest stone to kill her which shows that there are certain friends you may have and
when certain situations happens, their true colors will show and they may not have been a true friend
to begin with. Also, in Young Goodman Brown, along his spiritual journey he encountered people he
knew already, but then those people started to act the total opposite of what Goodman thought of his
friends. This shows that in life, not everything is what it seems, no matter how you see it. Another
example is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tessie to death. Instead, the story should ve ended with Tessie being stoned to death, but then the

Summers to death for starting this monstrosity. If the story would ve ended the way I wanted it to, this
would ve been a great example that the world can use when it comes to blindly following traditions
without actually thinking if the tradition made sense or not and then realizing the truth of the traditions
in the world we have now. I believe this would have made a bigger impact to the story and no more
people have to end their lives

Film Analysis Of Metropolis
The film Metropolis premiered on January 10, 1927 and is lauded as one of the Weimar era s great
films. The film was attractive immediately due to the scale of the sets and the cinematic innovations
that were achieved by director Fritz Lang. Metropolis was created during a time when Expressionism
and the Neue Sachlichkeit pervaded the film culture. The Neue Sachlichkeit was a response to
Expressionism to appeal to a broader audience. Willy Haas discusses the sets in his review of
Metropolis and describes their visual appeal. The sets for Metropolis draws on both styles and in this
they become more than a technical wonder, it lends itself to the storytelling rather than impeding it.
The set achieves this because it is a coalescing of the two forms. Therefore, I contend that Metropolis
s set lends itself to the plot by combining Expressionist social issues and design with the Neue
Sachlichkeit s want to return to realistic values.
Willy Haas, a film critic and screenwriter, published a review in the Film Kurier for Metropolis one
day after the premiere. Haas has a deep understanding of the film s set and how each part works
together to create the overall aesthetic. He begins by commending Fritz Lang s ability to meticulously
bring out the finer details while creating a set of gigantic proportions. Then, Haas summarizes
everything used to create the film from the cast to the amount of film used. Haas presents the film as a
mixture of different philosophies all woven together. Haas s main critique of the film is that it lacks a
central theme, or as Haas writes, the profound lack of inner form. This is due to the films massive size,
which seems to mask the film s scarcity of meaning. Haas concludes this article by stating that even
with it being a technical marvel, the feature that allows for a viewer to relate to the film is lost. One
response to the lack of deeper meaning is by addressing how the set aids the story.
Haas s review focuses on the statistical size of the set but neglects the sophistication of the visual
aspect. It is here where the set makes use of combining the two styles. The film is set in a futuristic
city filled with several skyscrapers, cars, and planes. At the center, is a tower that

The Automation And Its Effects On The Environment
If the automation in use does not demand a certain level of interaction or has presented several failures
of operation to the specific aviator in the past, the operator is prone to a more significant negative
event occurring in the future. This is due to the reliance and trust placed on the automation to
complete the task as designed (Geiselman et al., 2013). Consistent with the model is the idea that the
most likely scenario for complacency in the cockpit is prior to a very reliable system failing for the
first time (Parasuraman Manzey, 2010). Similar to complacency in automation is bias. Bias breeds the
misuse of automation through errors of omission and commission errors. Errors of omission are in
reference to the aircrew not taking action as directed by automation, while commission errors are
incorrect instructions provided by the automation that are acknowledged and followed by the operator
as directed (Parasuraman Manzey, 2010). Several human factors of bias exist that make it a difficult
problem to fix. The most common being that humans are typically drawn to situations that bias toward
automation is natural, such as; choosing a path requiring less effort, natural trust in a system that has
not failed previously, and the psychological effect of delegating tasks in a shared responsibility
environment (Parasuraman Manzey, 2010). Compounding on the issue is that bias does not appear to
be resolved by experience of the operator as it influences the natural human

Galletta (2012) discusses that semi structured interviews give space for further discussion and an in
depth answer from the interviewee. Eight midwives were purposively recruited from eight Mother and
Child Health Centres in Oslo and a smaller town in in another part of Norway. Although the study
adopted this method it didn t allow for a true representation of midwives views across Norway and it
evidences a difference in the way the participants were recruited therefore there was a degree of
allocation bias as the midwives will clearly be working with different population groups, pregnant
women from a city and pregnant women from a small town. The paper does however state that the
recruitment process was carried out in that way to recruit midwives with different experiences and to
ensure diversity and socio economic statuses between the Mother and Child Health centres.
Data analysis that was undertaken was content analysis. Graneheim et al (2017) reports that qualitative
content analysis is a method that is used to analysis quantitative data. It is a method that focuses on the
subject and the content emphasises variation. The analysis was carried out in four various stages and
direct quotes were used for participants within the study allowing for what they said to be shown

  • 2. Venus And Adonis The painting is said to be influenced by but not modeled after Titian s Venus and Adonis. At first glance, one notices how the painting looks so effortless. Rubens takes advantage of the space he has; the elaborate shadowing gives the painting more depth. When studying the background, one realize the foreshortening of the trees. It gives off the illusion that the trees are at more distance than Venus and Adonis are. When looking at the shading and hues it is amazing how the shades come together and how the details of the figures are. The bodies have detail, you can see the curve of Venus waist. One notices more details the longer it is observed. The style that characterizes Rubens magnificent piece is the baroque style. This style is described ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nudity has been an essential aspect in Western art. After the Renaissance, this is when the nudity was exploited as humans in their natural state. The nude form first was conquered by the ancient Greeks from approximately two thousand five hundred years ago. The Greeks celebrated the human body and cultivated the mastery of the human body through these sculptures of David. Rubens captures the nudity of Venus and makes her seen pure and compelling. When taking a glance at this masterpiece, one is immediately fixated and dragged in, it is a piece that cannot be missed. Ruben s expression in this piece can be defined as timeless. Historians conclude that besides the magnificent Michelangelo, no other painter had a greater knowledge of the human body and visual power as Rubens. This is how he is able to cultivate these mythological pieces, and incorporate much detail. There is much life in Rubens painting, through the vibrant hues and how he depicts Venus and Adonis as these massive creatures. Figures depicted in art are more often nude then one would think. It is seen the human body is at its ideal state when artist depict the figure as nude. It is seemed as heroic because humans are compelled to see how artist illustrate the human body. Hence why the male and female body is the central theme of western art. When thinking about the human form, there is nothing more compelling, which is why the theme is still prominent in modern and contemporary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Practices And Influence Of The Criminal Legal System Abstract The criminal legal system has an effect on the life of every American, and it is therefore of vital public interest to facilitate it functioning optimally. This can only be accomplished with a more comprehensive understanding of this system. Building on the work of Martin and Cohn (2004) and Wu, Lake and Cao (2015), this study sought to better understand the system through the administration of a self report survey. This survey measured participant Attitudes Toward the Criminal Legal System (ATCLS) and Belief in a Just World (BJW), in addition to collecting demographic information. The sample included 221 participants from Southern California, including 102 males and 119 females. There were limitations, including the use of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this, it is important to measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as understanding of where these attitudes diverge in society could provide an indication of where to focus efforts towards reform and improvement of the system. It is also important to explore the relationship between a belief in a just world and attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as the former had a significant impact on the validation of the latter (Martin Cohn, 2004). In addition, exploring the relationship between these factors and past criminal behavior is vital to generating a more detailed and comprehensive view of the issues at hand. To measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system and legal socialization, Martin and Cohn (2004) proposed the Attitudes Toward the Criminal Legal System Scale (ATCLS). Across five studies, they sought to validate their scale through measuring the correlation between the results of several surveys, including the Belief in a Just World Scale (BJW), and the ATCLS scale. The goal of the first two studies was to establish reliability and validity for the ATCLS scale, and the goal of the third study was to establish test retest reliability of the ATCLS scale. The goal of the final two studies was to replicate the results of the prior three studies with samples not drawn from student populations. These studies indicated that the ATCLS survey has ... • 5. Research Paper On Airport Interview The location of the interview was in the boardroom of the Hector International Airport. The attendees of the meeting were Kaitlyn Anderson, Stacie Tjon Bossart, Corey Quinton and Jim Koehler. Kaitlyn is the daughter of Darren Anderson, who was the driver of the airport s Chevrolet Traverse, the subject vehicle that was involved in the accident. Kaitlyn appeared at the interview wearing a sweat suit. She is 18 years old and a freshman at studying pharmaceutical medicine at North Dakota State University. She lives at home with her parents and her younger sister. She made a nice appearance during the interview and was able to keep composed during most of the meeting. Overall, she will make an above average witness. Kaitlyn was in the vehicle with Darren Anderson at the time of the accident because he was excited about the construction project going on that involved the runway and wanted to bring her out to see the project. They arrived at the airport at approximately 11:00 PM on July 30, 2017. They walked through the administration section of the airport and then got into the airport s Chevy Traverse. Kaitlyn reported that the Traverse is equipped with amber warning lights on the top; however, she was not certain if the lights were activated at any time that night. Kaitlyn and her father drove out onto Runway 18 36, which was closed due to the construction and a restriping project, and they parked near the intersection of Runway 18 36 and Runway 9 27. Her dad got out of the vehicle and had a conversation with Henry Swedberg, from the airport, and another gentleman also from the airport, regarding the work that was ongoing that night. Kaitlyn got out of the vehicle to say hello to Henry and then both she and her dad got into the vehicle to escort the painting truck down the middle of Runway 18 36. (Escort vehicles, which are in radio contact with the tower, must accompany all non airport vehicles on the runways.) West River Striping was repainting the center line of Runway 18 36 from taxiway C through the south end of the runway. After they escorted the large painting truck to the south end of Runway 18 36, Darren Anderson indicated that they needed to go back to the intersection of Runway ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay On Mississippi History Mississippi has a very rich history, and its history has made it the glorious state it is today. The first inhabitants of Mississippi were the Native Americans; the three main tribes were the Chickasaw Indians who settled in the north and eastern parts of the state, the Choctaw Indians who lived in the middle part of the state, and the Natchez Indians who occupied the southwest region of the state. Many present day cities in Mississippi get their names from these early tribes. Hernando De Soto was the first European to explore the state. He was from Spain and came in search of gold. When he did not find great riches in gold, De Soto moved on to explore other regions of North America. Next came the French explorer, Robert Cavalier who claimed the entire Mississippi Valley for France in 1682. The first French settlement was started in Biloxi which today is called Ocean ... Slaves were used to operate the large plantations, and, in fact, slaves outnumbered the white settlers by 1860. The Civil War marked a big change in Mississippi. With the election of Abraham Lincoln, slavery was abolished. Many Civil War battles were fought in Mississippi. The most notable was the Battle of Vicksburg where Union and Confederate forces fought for 47 straight days. Much of Mississippi lay in ruins after the war and had to be rebuilt. The lumber industry flourished during this period of reconstruction. The Great Depression was a very hard time for Mississippians. Many farmers lost their land between 1929 and 1930. Cotton prices fell dramatically and many people were living in poverty. With the coming of World War II industry soared and the building of an oil refinery once again made the state s economy successful. • 7. The Threat, Responsibility, And Solutions Climate Change... The Threat, Responsibility, and Solutions to Climate Change and Global Warming If the Maldives cannot be saved today we do not feel that there is much of a chance for the rest of the world. said Former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, while sitting underwater signing a document calling for global reduction in carbon emissions. He is right, if we do not start improving the climate right now, our world will soon be under water like the lowest nation, the Maldives which is predicted to be submerged by 2085. This paper will focus on four questions: Why climate change, or global warming, is real? Why do human beings take major responsibility for it? Why is it a top priority of every nation? And why can we believe that together you and I are able to tackle it? Despite numerous irrefutable evidence, many people including scientists, experts, and politicians still deny the existence and urgency of climate change as well as human responsibility for the problem. In their opinions, climate change is no more than a hoax of scientists and climatologists. In a 2014 survey, a senior writer at The Huffington Post, Carolyn Gregoire concluded 23 percent of Americans said they did not believe in global warming, and 53 percent said it was not human caused. President elect Donald Trump who is among the global warming denials, wrote on his Twitter the concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non competitive. • 8. Shah Isma il’s Establishes a Persian State Safawid rule over Persia originates from Shah Isma il s capture of Tabriz after hisvictory over the Aq Qoyunlu ruler Alwand at Sharur in 1501 A.D. However, before Isma il could be regarded the successor to the Aq Qoyunlu in Azarbayjan he would have to defeat the ozbegs and the Ottomans to produce a contiguous Persian State. This would take decades to accomplish. Overall, The Safawid state established by Shah Isma il relied on three elements to maintain power. The first was the loyalty of the Qizilbash tribesmen providing a military capacity to the shah in his capacity as head of the Safawid order. The second was the local bureaucracy, recruited especially from members of the urban population of the cities of central Persia. This was an essential part of the machinery of maintaining governing power once the military conquest was over. The third and perhaps the most important element was the State s new official faith, the Twelver variety of Shi ism, whose adherents accept a line of twelve infallible imams, beginning with Ali and ending with Muhammad al Mahdi. It is likely that a large majority of the Persian people at the time that Shah Isma il began to establish his influence adhered to the Sunni branch of Islam. The initial years of the Safawid dynasty brought on conversion to Shi ism as compulsory for the entire population. • 9. Advantages Of Digital Innovators What makes Disruptors so Powerful As mentioned earlier, the fewer entry barriers faced by digital disruptors give them a competitive advantage. Earlier competitors of traditional incumbent firms found it difficult to enter markets on account of inability to replicate distributional networks or access natural resources. The Baines limit pricing of keeping the price equal to marginal cost also posed a limit to entry of firms. With onset of digitalization, these challenges of entry barriers do not exist, as technology provides a cutting edge to the disruptors. The digital innovators are able to achieve economies of scale at a faster pace. The digital platforms once innovated, enables these disruptors to produce goods at almost zero marginal cost. Just as one issue has been identified the next comes up; a market is finally defined just in time to watch it morphing into something else. The main regulatory challenge is to provide a future proof framework which maintains its relevance no matter how the market develops. Key words here are technology neutrality and ex post rather than ex ante regulation. Competitive imbalances between traditional providers and new market players must be evaluated and, as far as necessary and possible, be reflected in new regulation. The governance problems raised by digital technologies threaten to further erode state autonomy, as non state actors are empowered to resolve major societal disputes (Rosenau and Singh, 2002). Alongside facilitating the development of the communications market to the benefit of the country, the basic rights of individuals and society must also be protected by legal and regulatory measures. And a last, but vital, aspect of regulation is that it should provide the market players with business security they must be able to understand and trust the framework in which they ... Finding a social worker to interview wasn t very hard for me because many of my mother s friends got their masters in social work, but not many of them actually got their license except for one of them. The licensed social worker that I interviewed goes by the name of Tanya Hill. Tanya got her Masters of Social Work at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida in 2000, as well as her license and she now resides in Panama City, Florida. Tanya is someone that I have known since I was a little girl and someone that I definitely aspire to be like once I graduate. My interview with Tanya was over the phone since I did not have time to drive back to Florida to do a face to face one, but while we were on the phone every answer she gave me to the questions I asked were quite interesting. The first question I asked during the interview was, How long have you been working with this agency? In this field? Tanya s response was that she has been Self Employed for 16 years. When I asked Tanya if the agency was public or private or a non profit or for profit, she said that she was a for profit solo practitioner. Another question that I had to ask her is, What population do you serve? , her response was Developmentally Disabled Children and Adults. In other words, Jackson believed that the Federal Government should have more power over the state legislatures, in order to maintain a stable and effective U.S. government for all to see. This difference is supported by Jackson s arguments against nullification (365). Nullification is the action of a state to cancel any objectionable federal law (364). The support against nullification means that Jackson did not believe that the states should be able to object to any federal laws; assering the Federal Government s dominance over the states. Within this argument, Jackson issued a document known as the Proclamation to the People of South Carolina (365). This proclamation stated that, even if the state of South Carolina supported nullification and President Jackson did not, South Carolina could not threaten to leave the Union. This was named treason in the document. It was released in response to an attempt by South Carolina to nullify tariffs placed on textiles in 1828 (364). In a final display of Federal Government power, Jackson passed a law which allowed members of the government to forcefully collect tariffs if necessary (365). • 17. Confucianism Bring Harmony In Society According to The Analects, Confucianism brings harmony by not doing things to others that you wouldn t want done to yourself. Confucianists follow Ren and Li. Ren (humility) is when one is kind, benevolent, and has humaneness towards others. Li is the rituals, rites, etiquette and propriety which lead to peace and harmony. Ren brings harmony by someone giving love and being equal. I believe that ren really does bring harmony into a society because when someone has a lot of pride, it ruins a lot for them, people don t really look at them as a humble person. Humility actually makes you be a better person because you accept when you make errors and not making yourself look as a very important person (this doesn t mean someone feels worthless or bad about themselves). Whereas, Li brings harmony by knowing and accepting where you stand in society. The best example I could think of is respect. You have to respect whom is above you. For example it is my obligation to respect my older sisters because I m younger than them. In class, I was told that if everyone does the proper thing, society will function well and will lead to peace and harmony. Whereas, Taoism brings harmony by accepting things the way they are. The concepts of Yin and Yang bring harmony to Taoists. Yin and yang represent the fluidity of the universe. Yin meaning dark, passive, female and yang meaning light, active, male. When Merteuil removes her makeup at the end of the film, she is wiping away the surface that made her attractive, her desirability is being wiped away. Her power has been based on her appearance and her destruction of her face symbolizes her destruction of herself. Henry Fairlie, in The Seven Deadly Sins Today , says that Sloth is a state of dejection that gives rise to sluggishness...a poisoning of the will (Fairlie 113). It is this very state that Green Day describes so aptly in their debut single Longview . Longview describes the life of the slothful person. In the first few lines the slothful person admits to himself, I m fucking lazy (Armstrong). This general attitude pervades the entire song and the worst part of the slothful person in Longview is that he understands this is a dejected state of his own making. As Leonard Nimoy stated in his role as Spock in the movie, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few . This is the cruel truth that be seen everywhere, but many people tend to ignore it since it is such a dreary thought. Many people, especially those in third world countries, are exploited every day. Large corporate companies come to typically poorer foreign nations, where there is a large gap between the rich and poor, to find cheaper workers. Many people in these foreigners tend to be desperate for money and immediately sign up for these jobs. Typical corporations would hire these people and make them work in inhumane working conditions such as long hours, less pay, and give no sanitation facilities. Although this happens on an everyday basis, there are very few people out there who challenge the large corporations. This example can also apply to medical ethics, sometimes a small amount of people have to suffer through experiments to help the general public. Customs, beliefs, values and behaviors that become more specified to specific groups that tend to mimic themselves within a group are the broad range themes that come up when one discusses culture. Culture can exist on many different planes simultaneously. Culture is subjective and the way in which specific cultures are defined changes constantly. Researchers Kroeber and Kluckhohn state that Culture consists of patterns, explicit and implicit, of and for behavior acquired and transmitted by symbols, constituting the distinctive achievement of human groups, including their embodiments in artefacts; the essential core of culture consists of traditional (i.e. historically derived and selected) ideas and especially their attached values; culture systems may, on the one hand, be considered as products of action, on the other as conditioning elements of further action. (1952, p. 181) This description of culture largely aligns with generally accepted definitions of culture but briefly considers that culture can also be a product of action. I believe that culture is grounded in traditions of the past but suggest that it could not exist without the continued evolution of the key elements that define the concept. For the purpose of this paper I will describe culture as not only the experiences that came before but the enduring and modifiable traits that allow culture to be completely unique ... Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each. Ring Architecture. Has a closed loop with all PC s linked to the next one. Circuits are full duplex or half duplex, which allows messaging in both directions around the ring. The fall back is the time in which message can take to travel around the ring from the sender to a receiver, since the messages have to pass through several different computers and circuits, concluding in traffic delays which can pile up quickly. Star Architecture connects all the PCs to a central PC which acts as the message router to an appropriate PC. It s easier to manage because of the central PC receiving and routing all the messages in the desired network. This allows the communication to be faster than ring architecture since it only travels through two circuits to reach the receiver. However, having only one central pc can create more problems since its in change of all the messages on the network. This creates room for overload in traffic and could potentially decrease performance overall. Mesh Architecture has every PC connected to very other PC. This is a Full mesh network, and it s biggest downfall is the high price. However, partial mesh most PC, but not all are connected to each other. Although it combines star and ring, if ... • 31. Outstanding Educator Qualities When reflecting on what makes an outstanding educator, so many qualities came to mind. Educators have to take on so many roles each and every day, which made distinguishing the most important qualities more difficult. There are so many qualities that a teacher needs to contain to be considered an outstanding educator, but in my opinion, there are four qualities that are the most important and umbrella the many other qualities an educator should have. These four qualities include being compassionate, knowledgeable and flexible. Every outstanding educator has the honor to impact a student s life each and every day by what they are teaching them but more importantly how they care about them. Educators need to be compassionate since they have to build a rapport with each of their student. Your students need to know that you care about them and their wellbeing before any academics can be done. An educator without compassion will never be able to impact their students in a positive way the way an outstanding educator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a teacher is not knowledgeable about what they are doing each and every day then their students are not getting what they deserve. Educators need to know the content they are teaching and how they are going to teach the content inside and out. How is a student expected to learn a concept if their educator is not knowledgeable about the concept themselves? This is why it is so important for educators to continue to learn and grow through professional developments and personal research. As educators we are lifelong learners, since we are in a constantly changing field. Outstanding educators are the ones that are constantly learning from their colleges, research and most importantly their student. As a recent graduate, I know I have a lot of learning to still do, but each and every day I teach I learn something new and become better at my practices as an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Young Goodman Brown And The Lottery Short Story The stories we read in class had a lot of distinct similarities in each story. One similarity I saw was; all the stories introduced their settings in the beginning. Also, all the stories explain some truths about the world we live in. For example, in The Lottery, this story shows the danger of blindly following traditions of the community was so used to playing the lottery, that it has become a normal habit for them not realizing the damage this lottery is causing them and the people who has to lose their life for it. Another example, in The Lottery, is when Mrs. Delacroix turned against her good friend Tessie by picking up the largest stone to kill her which shows that there are certain friends you may have and when certain situations happens, their true colors will show and they may not have been a true friend to begin with. Also, in Young Goodman Brown, along his spiritual journey he encountered people he knew already, but then those people started to act the total opposite of what Goodman thought of his friends. This shows that in life, not everything is what it seems, no matter how you see it. Another example is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I disliked the ending because I don t think it was right to end the story with the village about to stone Tessie to death. Instead, the story should ve ended with Tessie being stoned to death, but then the village finally realized the damage and chaos the lottery has done and then have decided to stoned Mr. Summers to death for starting this monstrosity. If the story would ve ended the way I wanted it to, this would ve been a great example that the world can use when it comes to blindly following traditions without actually thinking if the tradition made sense or not and then realizing the truth of the traditions in the world we have now. I believe this would have made a bigger impact to the story and no more people have to end their lives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Film Analysis Of Metropolis The film Metropolis premiered on January 10, 1927 and is lauded as one of the Weimar era s great films. The film was attractive immediately due to the scale of the sets and the cinematic innovations that were achieved by director Fritz Lang. Metropolis was created during a time when Expressionism and the Neue Sachlichkeit pervaded the film culture. The Neue Sachlichkeit was a response to Expressionism to appeal to a broader audience. Willy Haas discusses the sets in his review of Metropolis and describes their visual appeal. The sets for Metropolis draws on both styles and in this they become more than a technical wonder, it lends itself to the storytelling rather than impeding it. The set achieves this because it is a coalescing of the two forms. Therefore, I contend that Metropolis s set lends itself to the plot by combining Expressionist social issues and design with the Neue Sachlichkeit s want to return to realistic values. Willy Haas, a film critic and screenwriter, published a review in the Film Kurier for Metropolis one day after the premiere. Haas has a deep understanding of the film s set and how each part works together to create the overall aesthetic. He begins by commending Fritz Lang s ability to meticulously bring out the finer details while creating a set of gigantic proportions. Then, Haas summarizes everything used to create the film from the cast to the amount of film used. Haas presents the film as a mixture of different philosophies all woven together. Haas s main critique of the film is that it lacks a central theme, or as Haas writes, the profound lack of inner form. This is due to the films massive size, which seems to mask the film s scarcity of meaning. Haas concludes this article by stating that even with it being a technical marvel, the feature that allows for a viewer to relate to the film is lost. One response to the lack of deeper meaning is by addressing how the set aids the story. Haas s review focuses on the statistical size of the set but neglects the sophistication of the visual aspect. It is here where the set makes use of combining the two styles. The film is set in a futuristic city filled with several skyscrapers, cars, and planes. At the center, is a tower that ... • 35. The Automation And Its Effects On The Environment If the automation in use does not demand a certain level of interaction or has presented several failures of operation to the specific aviator in the past, the operator is prone to a more significant negative event occurring in the future. This is due to the reliance and trust placed on the automation to complete the task as designed (Geiselman et al., 2013). Consistent with the model is the idea that the most likely scenario for complacency in the cockpit is prior to a very reliable system failing for the first time (Parasuraman Manzey, 2010). Similar to complacency in automation is bias. Bias breeds the misuse of automation through errors of omission and commission errors. Errors of omission are in reference to the aircrew not taking action as directed by automation, while commission errors are incorrect instructions provided by the automation that are acknowledged and followed by the operator as directed (Parasuraman Manzey, 2010). Several human factors of bias exist that make it a difficult problem to fix. The most common being that humans are typically drawn to situations that bias toward automation is natural, such as; choosing a path requiring less effort, natural trust in a system that has not failed previously, and the psychological effect of delegating tasks in a shared responsibility environment (Parasuraman Manzey, 2010). Compounding on the issue is that bias does not appear to be resolved by experience of the operator as it influences the natural human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Galletta (2012) discusses that semi structured interviews give space for further discussion and an in depth answer from the interviewee. Eight midwives were purposively recruited from eight Mother and Child Health Centres in Oslo and a smaller town in in another part of Norway. Although the study adopted this method it didn t allow for a true representation of midwives views across Norway and it evidences a difference in the way the participants were recruited therefore there was a degree of allocation bias as the midwives will clearly be working with different population groups, pregnant women from a city and pregnant women from a small town. The paper does however state that the recruitment process was carried out in that way to recruit midwives with different experiences and to ensure diversity and socio economic statuses between the Mother and Child Health centres. Data analysis that was undertaken was content analysis. Graneheim et al (2017) reports that qualitative content analysis is a method that is used to analysis quantitative data. It is a method that focuses on the subject and the content emphasises variation. The analysis was carried out in four various stages and direct quotes were used for participants within the study allowing for what they said to be shown exactly what was said within the paper.
