Theme Of Duality In Romeo And Juliet
Duality is when one thing or idea contains two conflicting sides. Duality is a theme seen in both Jekyll
and Hyde and Romeo and Juliet. In both of these works of literature there are many different ways that
the theme of duality is displayed. There are also many instances in which duality is used in modern
literature and entertainment, the movie Split for example. In these stories the duality of human nature
is displayed by the characters and situations that are included. In the Shakespearean play named
Romeo and Juliet duality is displayed mainly by quotes and situations. At the end of the play prince
escalus says A glooming peace this morning with it brings (V iii 316). This quote shows duality when
it describes peace with glooming. This is an adequate example of duality because while describing
peace, which has a positive connotation, the word glooming, in which a negative connotation is used.
Another quote that displays duality is what Friar Laurence says near the beginning of the play Virtue
itself turns vice, being misapplied,/ And vice sometime by action dignified (II iii 21 22). Obviously
vice and virtue are opposite in nature, vice meaning something that is immoral or wicked, and virtue
being something that displays high moral standards. Comparing these two very different things gives
an idea of the dual nature of man. Duality is also used as a literary device that relates to irony. Irony is
when the expectation of something is different than the reality. Although irony and duality are not the
same thing, they are closely related as to how they are used, and in what situations they are used. The
following quote is an example of dramatic irony and duality, O son, the night before thy wedding
day/Hath Death lain with thy wife. There she lies,/Flower as she was, deflowerèd by him./Death is my
son in law; Death is my heir (IV v 41 44). This quote shows dramatic irony because Lord Capulet
believes that Juliet is dead even though we know that she is not; in addition it represents the theme of
duality because it is saying that juliet is married to death. Marriage is being represented as a good
thing, but turns into a bad thing when she is said to be married to death itself. In Romeo and Juliet
there

The Process Of Alternative Dispute Resolution
The process of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a relatively new phenomena which has
infiltrated contemporary next generation human resource management. As the use of ADR methods
grew, proponents viewed them as promising mechanism s for an abundance of scenarios. Conflict has
and always will be an inherent part of the workplace (Colvin 2003). It is for this reason alternative
conflict resolution has amassed development, especially considering the cost of rigid normative
procedures, with Gibbons (2007, p 7) estimating that employment conflict in the UK costing an
estimated £410 million annually. Conflict is generated when one party perceives that another party has
negatively influenced something the first party cares about (Huczynski and Buchanan 2007, p764). It
is in this context that conflict resolution processes ought to address both the actions and perceptions of
both parties in the dispute in order to garner more successful results (Willmott 1993). Therefore, in
order to achieve this practically a significant shift was required from regular grievance strategies
toward a more flexible and pragmatic system which promotes a positive outcome for both parties
(Gibbons 2007, p 7). All forms of ADR will involve a third party with the role of the third party
contingent on the type of ADR applied .The type of ADR used shall be dictated by the type of dispute,
what stage it is at and ultimately the type of resolution being sought. It is against this backdrop that

I Tend My Flowers For Thee Rhetorical Devices
Emily Dickinson s I tend my flowers for thee (Fr 367) is traditionally read as an expression of longing
and desire. Her use of vivid descriptions of nature conjure images of soft petals juxtaposed against
those thorny cacti and the notion of dreams interrupted by violent passion. However, a feminist
reading of the poem reveals that it is Emily Dickinson s critical commentary on the patriarchal
ideology that a woman s sense of personal fulfillment is contingent upon the presence of a romantic
partner. The poem is iambic and each stanza follows the pattern: tetrameter/ dimeter/ trimester/
trimester. Its rhyme scheme reads: AABB/ CCDE/ FGHIJJK/ LMNMM/ OOAOOPA. Dickinson

I tend my flowers for thee is wrought with vivid descriptions of not only plants and flowers, but also
animal life, colors and sounds. In his 2015 article What Do Collections Tell Us? Teaching Dickinson s
Poems, the Herbarium, and Contemporary and Historical Material Practices , Zach Marshall asserts
that, in order to increase critical productivity, students should read Dickinson s poems in tandem with
excerpts from Belknap Press s facsimile reproduction of Emily Dickinson s Herbarium. Marshall goes
on to explain that this process will encourage interactivity between the students and Dickinson s
poems within the often abstracted discipline of literary studies . This pedagogical technique also offers
critical benefits, such as pushing students to think critically about the curatorial practices that
influence the texts they work with, focusing attention on Dickinson s material writing practices,
providing a context for understanding more unusual poems, and even forging a way for students to see
connections between poetic practices and ecological practices (Marshall 58 59). This method of
analyzing Dickinson s poems in which she utilizes plant imagery can provide useful supplemental

Women have always been treated lesser than men and by looking at other cultures we see that woman

Countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Nepal, and many other countries, women
are treated less than men. Some of these countries won t let women get an education, and those who

Dungeon And Dragons, Rock N Roll, And Video Games
Dungeon and Dragons, Rock N Roll, and video games, these are three separate activities that when
looked at from afar do not seem to have anything to do with each other. However, they in fact do have
something fairly big in common. They each have been blamed with being either bad for you or a
negative influence. Whether it be Dungeon and Dragons being satanic and making people lose touch
with reality, Rock N Roll s cause of juvenile delinquency, or video games leading to violent and
antisocial behavior. Now we know that at least two of those were far fetched, those being Rock N Roll
and Dungeons and Dragons, but what about the third one video games. Do playing video games really
end up making you a more violent person? Antisocial? Are you suddenly going to commit a mass
shooting or some other violent crime just because you spent a few hours a day playing a video game?
Perhaps it is the opposite are you going to become more social? Do you develop thinking skills, and
better social skills even when interacting with people you have not met in person? Could it be both, or
at least partially both? Well to put it simply it is partially both, now video games will not suddenly
make you turn into a criminal, however, there is a possibility of negative behavioral effects. As one
may know video games are a popular pastime in our current generation, and alongside that popularity
comes controversy, due to the possible negative behavioral and health side effects. However, video

Nemo And Dog Research Paper
Nemo and Dog By: Dominic Once upon a time there was two animals in the Pacific Ocean named
Nemo and Dog. Nemo was a piranha and Dog was a snapping turtle and they were really good friends.
They would do a lot of things together and they wouldn t mind that Dog could eat Nemo. It was a
sunny day when Nemo was going for a swim when he saw some other people talking. When he swam
past them he overheard the group talking about the fishers were out today and were already trying to
catch some fish. So he swam to go find Dog and tell him about the fishers. He couldn t seem to find
him until finally he saw a snapping turtle but he didn t know if it was Dog because he was really far

Everybody really didn t like Dog so no one was willing to help Nemo to save him. So Nemo started to

Istj Application Essay Example
ISTJ So what is an ISTJ and who am I? As described above, I am a quiet and reserved individual who
uses experience to make analytical decisions, but only after a lot of thought and analyzing! In the
workplace, I keep to myself for the most part and do not do a lot of conversing with management that
does not pertain to work. Most of my recent professional life has been leadership roles, so having
someone working under me has been common for many years. In the workplace, I feel like I get along
better with them. I feel that I can interact amongst the employees on the floor and be myself more than
what I can with the guys dressed in suits. My positions are usually one of a supervisor or department
manager, so I am a liaison between the entry level employees and upper management. Some people
seem to get their bonus points by congregating with managers in their offices, but I m more
comfortable amongst the hourly workers that get the work completed. Obviously, I can communicate
with upper management, but keep it strictly professional with them. I keep work relationships minimal
because I have been burned by them before and have learned from it. I hired friends to work as
assistant managers under me for a period of time and saw my store begin to decline. I understood then
that I could not have close friends in important positions under me because the inability to separate
work from social life, and discipline and be taken serious, were too difficult at the time. Outside of
work,

Changes Within The Workplace After The Economy,...
Changes in the workplace due to the economy, technology, and globalization have affected many lives
in modern day society. In addition, managerial approaches have influenced changes organizations
have faced throughout the years, which tend to affect an organization s workforce. For example, some
of the changes organizations have had to encounter have been around the following, but are not
limited to employee productivity, employee and organizational inefficiency, employee s personal and
professional value, and organizational structure to name a few. Furthermore, managerial approaches
going back centuries have molded certain expectations people and organizations have of each other.
For example, many individuals during the industrial era had an expectation to contribute to his or her
household at a young age. The feeling of this type of obligation at times in today s society are seen,
but are not as prevalent. Instead of young people focusing on their studies, and skill set, they often
have to find employment that he or she initially do not want to do, which often times leads to entry
level positions that are typically left. Allowing managers to often alienate and exploit the employee.
What this often leads to in organizations is the ineffective managerial approaches often throwing the
human element out the window. Through alienating employees, it denies him or her meaningful work,
which in turns reduces opportunities for growth. The exploitation of employees occurs

The causes and effects of global recession.
Global financial crisis, increasing for a while, began to show its results in the mid of 2007 into 2008.
Worldwide stock markets have subsided, financial institutions have dropped and governments in even
the richest nations have had to develop packages to assist their financial organizations. Recession is

A decrease in world GDP occurred in many countries, specifically in developing countries. Imports
have also declined significantly in importing countries. This was obvious in countries such as China,
Taiwan, Mexico, Egypt and Russia. it was stated that GDP fell to 3.8% in the U.S. The impact of
recession on employment may not be felt for some time. Investigation in Britain shows that low
skilled, low educated workers and the immature are in a weak position to unemployment in a
downturn. It took Britain five years for unemployment to go back to its initial levels. From 2000 to
2003, the Federal Reserve lowered their target rates. They then raised the funds rate significantly
between July 2004 and July 2006. This added to an increase in number of years to the adjustable rate
mortgage rates and made it more expensive for homeowners. As a result, this may have also
contributed to the deflating of the housing bubble. Gross Domestic Product declined at an in the last
two years in the United States. When GDP collapses, economic growth will also plunge. This is as a
result of fewer goods being manufactured and therefore the rate of exports will reduce. It is said that
when exports decrease, it will not have sufficient funds to accommodate any growth in the economy
what so ever. As a result in the decline in GDP, employment rate will sooner or later begin to drop. As
a result of the credit crunch, consumers have less purchasing power therefore

Neorealism As A Response Of Realism Theory Devised By Hans...
Neorealism in IR theory Neorealism has often been associated with Waltz (1979). Actually, neorealism
is a response of realism theory devised by Hans Morgenthau (1948), which assumes that all affecting
factors for cooperation and discord or peace and war are only under certain conditions (Keohane,
1986, p. 2 3). Neorealism has been the most prominent and influential approach in the field of IR
theory since the early 1980s. Mikhail Gorbachev and Kim Il Sung were the examples of leaders that
had neorealism approach in their foreign policy behavior (Malici, 2009, p. 132). Unlike realism,
neorealism assumes that world politics is an anarchy environment. Anarchy here means the absence of
centralized government (Waltz, 1979 ; Oye, 1985). In that sense, neorealism is an attempt to update
and modify the concept of realism theory in international politics (Aliyev, 2011). In its development,
neorealism experienced some additional concepts. These concepts are devised by many next
generations of neo realist scholars, e.g. Oye (1985), Keohane (1986), Buzan (1993), Jervis (1997), and
so forth with variations of definitions (Dibek, 2012). This essay uses the concept of neorealism from
Waltz and its modification from Oye. The basic concept is that cooperation can still be developed
under anarchy, or the absence of government, which associated with the occurrence of violence and
lead to conflict (Waltz, 1979, p. 102 128 ; Oye, 1985, p. 1 24). The cooperation in this essay refers to

Essay on Rape and Sexual Assault in the Military
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the issue of rape and sexual assault in the military. The number
of attacks for rape and sexual assault in the military are at an all time high. Women have recently been
allowed to fight on the front line. While this may be a huge achievement for women kind, for this
woman, it is a very scary thought. I am a junior at Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences; a school
geared towards students wishing to enter the medical field. I may be forced to join the military one

Many victims are not getting the justice they deserve and are often treated worse than the attacker and
targeted because they were raped. Women are not the only demographic that will be lost, young men
will also be discouraged from joining any branches of the armed forces. Our military may be short of
soldiers in its biggest time of need. This would mean that the Selective Services would have to be
called into effect. This would mean that the amount of rapes would drastically increase and military
would be facing a scandal of epic proportions. I am not going to argue the ethics of rape, what is right
or wrong. Instead, I am trying to persuade you that the future safety of our country depends on the
bettering of the system of prosecuting rapists in the military. The soldiers that are in the battles that
protect our country should be protected themselves, and this is the only way to ensure their safety. A
Newsweek article written by Jesse Ellison proves that women are more likely to be raped in the
military than to be killed. The act of rape, while abundant in the military, is not the problem. The
rapists are committing the sinful act multiple times on multiple victims because they are not being
punished. The rapists need to realize that the acts they are committing are illegal and deserve to be
punished. According to Albert Einstein, the definition of

Argumentative Speech
August 26, 2016, the first day Colin Kaepernick takes a knee during the National Anthem in a pre
season NFL game. Once people found out what he did, the country went crazy and people starting
taking sides immediately. Some think he should never be seen again, while others truly supported him
for the message he was trying to put out there. Once more players started taking a knee or raising their
fist in the air, the question came about whether college athletes or even high school athletes should
have the right to do the same. Technically they do have the right because of the first amendment, but
would that really show a good message to the fans of the team, your teammates, or even your coach.
What Kaepernick started is one of the biggest controversies our country has had in a long time and I
believe that we as people should not interfere with a situation that doesn t involve us. Today it seems
like people forget the reasoning behind Kaepernick taking a knee because of why athletes are doing it
in the present day. First of all, before Kaepernick even started kneeling during the Anthem, he sat on
the bench during the first pre season game of the 2016 season and no one even noticed. Wouldn t that
be considered more disrespectful than kneeling which use to be a sign of respect? The reason he

Thucydides at His Best Essays
The true essence of human nature is seen during times of great hardships as can be seen comparing
Pericles Funeral Oration and the plague in Thucydides , The History of the Peloponnesian War.
Thucydides accounts for many different aspects of justice, power, and human nature through his text.
The order, the style of his writing, choice of words, and relations of what he believes actually
happened, allows the reader to make different inferences about the message he s trying to convey. The
juxtaposition of the two stories portrays many different characteristics to investigate and analyze.
The question can be raised, why compare the funeral oration and the plague with each other, the
answer simply lies in its order. Thucydides shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also shows that when powerful speakers used rhetoric, they would exaggerate. Pericles allowed the
people to feel their city wouldn t be able to be destroyed, but the conceit he had for the city didn t turn
out to be true.
In the funeral oration there is a visual of continuous strength, courage, unity, fighting, and power that
is building this great city called Athens, but then when looking at the plague, you see it break apart.
Thucydides mentions the steps and characteristics of the symptoms the plague had on the human body.
He describes it so that the reader sees how the plague affected the body, breaking it down organ by
organ. This can relate to the breakdown of Athens due to the plague. It takes this one disease to take
one human life as well as a strongly built city. He also shows the breakdown of the city by describing
the setting, instead of seeing an orderly city with its beautifully established buildings, you d find dead
people lying one on top of the other in the streets, sick people at the fountains, mostly signs of death
around every corner.
The plague began with a high fever to the head and made its way down to the different parts of the
body, destroying it along the way, leaving its mark wherever possible. The same can be said for the
city. The plague hit the structure of the city, and destroyed it little by little, just as it destroyed the
different parts of the body, eventually causing a break down of the empire, the same empire that

Outsourcing of America Essay
Outsourcing of America
In an increasingly globalize society, it is nothing new to hear about product development and
assembly going abroad. Factory jobs have been moved to other nations for decades, and more
recently, customer call centers are being relocated to foreign nations. With the current downturn in the
economy, people are looking to at this situation in an increasingly negative way. Not all work that

outsourcing required that the customer organization simply contracts for an external group to perform
all or part of the functions of one or more of their process steps. Process component outsourcing
means that requirement development, design phase, coding phase, test phase, or the maintenance
phase is outsourced to another location. Most commonly the testing phase of the software
development process is shipping out of house. Finally there is Software Acquisition, where all
software development is sent to another location company. Outsourced work can be sent to another

motivation behind the strategy is the same.[2]
There are many perceived advantages to outsourcing software development work to other locations.
The first of these advantages is cost. When outsourcing work to foreign nations, a company can save a
great deal of money since the dollar goes further in other nations, therefore software developers can be

Elias To South Preu Analysis
The adventures of Elias to south Preu provides an example of his trial to spread Christianity in that
area. While reading his journey account from the beginning, one may notice he uses many religious
excerpts for supporting his view of the Christianity. Thus, he sets out from Baghdad to visit to tomb of
Jesus in Jerusalem, moving and acting as a priest of Chaldean church who is blessed by the power of
Jesus I fortified myself in God and drew strength from his blessed mother, the virgin Mary (15). There
is no doubt that the religious and secular discourse was an evident factor that shaped such journey
from the beginning till the end. Analytically speaking, he uses many repetitions of words like silver,

Role Of Organisms On A Tropical Ecosystem
Part B The Role of Organisms
A producer in a tropical ecosystem is the plants and trees. A primary consumer in a tropical ecosystem
is a squirrel. A secondary consumer in a tropical ecosystem is a jack rabbit. A tertiary consumer in a
tropical ecosystem is a mountain lion. A decomposer in a tropical ecosystem is mushrooms, fungi and
moss.
The predator is the Mountain Lion. The prey is the deer. So the predator and prey relationship is
between the mountain lion and the deer. The predator which is the mountain lion hunts for the deer to
survive and feed off. The mountain lion is a carnivore and is one of the few at the top of this tropical
food chain. The prey which is the deer is a herbivore and feeds of plants and trees.

The plants, flowers, seeds, fruits and trees are all producers meaning they go through the process of
photosynthesis and make their own energy and food. The pika, tree frog, checker spot, squirrel and
deer are all primary consumers and herbivores, and feed off the producers for survival as they are
unable to make their own food as they can t go through photosynthesis. They eat about 10% of any of
the producer s energy meaning that the primary consumers gain 10% of energy. The secondary

The Subculture Of Mental Illness By Dan Hoeweler
A possible definition of a subculture is a smaller culture apart of one larger culture. One subculture is
those that suffer from a mental illness, contributing to the larger culture of individuals without mental
illness. For a long time, this subculture seemed taboo and shunned, to the extent it was rarely talked
about openly. However, I believe a way this subculture was represented during earlier times was
through literature. An author could have a character that seemed a bit odd or different that hinted
towards a mental illness while not fully addressing whether or not that character is mentally ill.
Although, as time has progressed mental illness has gradually become less taboo, to the point an
author can openly represent the mental illness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lao Tzu Evil
The concepts of good and evil exist within every society therefore there must exist some method of
instruction about the path to goodness. Lao Tzu, the author of the Tao Te Ching, who defines good as
having faith in the Tao to better the world and oneself, and Dante, who wrote The Divine Comedy and
defines good as faith the way of heaven and hell and in the punishments of sinners, take very different
approaches to defining the path to virtuousness. Lao Tzu defines what is good and focuses on the
reward of achieving that goodness, while Dante defines the good by exemplifying the bad to inspire
fear through the prospect of punishment. In the model of good versus evil one can focus on achieving
good or avoiding evil by setting an example that appeals to peoples interest in bettering their own lives
or in bettering their society. The good as defined by Lao Tzu can be more effectively and universally
achieved through a system of reward that defines the good such as is done in the Tao Te Ching rather
than using a system of punishment that defines good by exemplifying the bad through the sinners as
Dante does. While both texts appeal to self interest in their teaching of how attain virtue, Lao Tzu
widens his argument to consider the desire of people to better their society as well as themselves
which is more accurate to the nature of people. Dante suggests that the natural empathy of humans is
hindering and must be eliminated, but that view goes against human instinct as it is

North African Campaign Essay
When someone mentions World War Two the first thing that comes to mind is probably D Day or
Pearl Harbor or maybe even Berlin, while the North African Campaign is often forgotten. Three of the
notable campaigns that occurred in Africa at this time were Operation Torch, Operation Tunisia, and
the Western Desert Campaign; These campaigns took place from June 10th, 1940 to May 13th, 1943.
When talking about any war or great struggle, there are three things to know: who were influential
figures of this struggle, what methods or types of warfare they used, and what were the important
victories or defeats. During the second world war, waged on the second largest continent in the world,
there were people who literally changed the outcome of this great struggle. Two of these people were:
Bernard Montgomery fighting for the allies, and Erwin Rommel, the infamous Desert Fox fighting for
the axis.
Montgomery saw action in the First World War as a junior officer of the Royal Warwickshire
Regiment, however this ended prematurely when he was shot through the lung by a sniper. He later
returned to the front three years later in 1917 as a general staff officer before ending the war as chief
of staff of the 47th (2nd London) Division. During the Second World War he commanded the British
Eighth Army from August 1942 in the Western Desert until the final Allied victory in Tunisia in May

Board Of County Vs Snyder Case Analysis
1. Name and citation of the case Board of County Commissioners of Brevard V. Snyder, 627 So.2d
469 (1993). 2. Decision The Court ruled in favor of the appellant, and the decision is described as
follows: First, rezoning action is quasi judicial in nature, subject to strict scrutiny on certiorari review.
Second, a landowner who demonstrates that proposed use of the property is consistent with
comprehensive plan is not presumptively entitled to such use. Third, a landowner seeking to rezone a
property has burden of proving that proposal is consistent with the comprehensive plan, and
consequently burden shifts to the zoning board to demonstrate legitimate public purpose of

Board of County Commissioners of Brevard V. Snyder set a precedent since the Court concluded the
comprehensive plan, provides for future land use through gradual and ordered growth, and it is not a
literal guide. Thus, Local governments have the discretion to decide that certain land uses should be
denied, even if they comply with comprehensive plan guidelines. Also, the Supreme Court authorizes
zoning boards to act in a legislative and quasi judicial mode. This decision is also controversial since
the U.S. and State of Florida Constitutions have the separation of powers doctrine, which splits all
powers into the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branch, each one of these having their own
functions and responsibilities. 9. Personal Interpretation and substance The Supreme Court is right

An Introduction To The Structural Analysis Of Narrative By...
Throughout his life s work, Roland Barthes has expressed a wide range of diverse views on various
aspects of literary theory and formulating important analysis techniques; initially exploring and
redefining structuralism, and eventually defining post structuralism.
In the 1960 s, when An Introduction to the Structural Analysis of Narrative was first published,
traditional structuralist thinking and method was already starting to shift towards post structuralism.
Still, Barthes brings up Saussure s ideas in an analogy to his own, approaching literary texts in a
similar way a structuralist would approach a sentence by breaking them down into the smallest units
and analysing the structure of these units. The essay begins by pointing out the ... Show more content

Function is described as the smallest unit of a narrative, which is later classified into four functions:
nuclei, catalysts, indices, and informants. Therefore, a function is not a static unit of narrative; it can
shift to different levels and interact with other units. The level of action is necessary to describe
characters in a literary work. This was the first considerable shift from traditional structuralism: From
the very first, structural analysis showed the utmost reluctance to treat the characters an essence, even
for classification purposes (256). Barthes claims that each character (or actor ) in a narrative is a part
of a certain sphere of action where he then interacts with other characters. To avoid confusion with the
trivial actions that form within the functional level, Barthes points out that the action in the level of
action is understood as a larger articulation of activity between the characters. The last level of
narration focuses on the function of a narrator, which has also been neglected by the most structuralist
thinkers before. Barthes points out that the narrator and the recipient of narrative are always connected
to each other. Furthermore, describing the level of narration, he makes a crucial point about the
narrator: Now, at least from our viewpoint, both narrator and characters are essentially paper beings .
The living author of a narrative can in no way be mistaken for the narrator of that narrative (261).
Barthes s ideas of dehumanizing of the narrator, as well as his focus on characters and actions in a
narrative were quite innovative at the time, but the whole essay is still written from a largely
structuralist

Pros And Cons Of Corporal Punishment In Schools
The bell rings. Students walk to art class where they are told not to drop the rulers on the floor. One
student accidentally drops the ruler, hoping the teacher will not notice, fearing he will be beaten.
However, the teacher sees it and paddles the student five times. The student now has severe bruising
on his bottom just for dropping a ruler. This is not how it should be. Thirty nine states have banned
corporal punishment because it is dangerous in schools and not a suitable punishment for
students(Morin). Corporal Punishment should not be allowed in schools because it promotes violence,
it creates an unsafe environment, and it has a lasting impact on kids. Corporal punishment should not
be allowed in schools because it promotes violence. Many students have been beaten by their teachers
for doing something negative in school, and have gotten the message that violence is a good thing.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has stated some examples of this in the article Should Corporal
Punishment Be Used in K 12 Schools .They explained that Children who experience corporal
punishment are more likely to hit or use violence against people to get their way. (Procon.com) This
example shows that schools that use corporal punishment, teach that it is ok to use violence to get
what students want. Students who see or experience corporal punishment get the message that
violence is necessary to get their way. In other words, when those kids are out in the real world, they

Examples Of Imperialism In Passage To India
Introduction E.M. Forster s novel A Passage to India is set between the British Raj and the
Independence Movement of India. It is set in India, in the early 20th century, when India was still one
of the British colonies. With the novel, Forster in a way challenges the belief that the British had the
right to colonize Indians. One of the main reasons of the British colonization was that the British
believed they were superior to those who were poorer than them, and those whose skin was different
than theirs; they believed it was their duty to civilize the savages .
After the publication of the novel in 1924, as Mohammad Shaheen states in his work E.M. Forster and
the Politics of Imperialism , the public were divided as to whether the novel was a masterpiece or a
political statement. He was strongly criticized by those who supported the British Empire, but

Physical education is a fundamental component of the Australian curriculum that maintains an
underlying goal of providing the knowledge and skills to students to allow them to live healthy and
productive lives. However, the beginning of physical education in its purest form can be traced back to
a time when human society was in its infancy, when the discipline would have been exhibited mainly
through necessary survival skills including hunting and spear throwing along with combat skills
involving wrestling and swordsmanship (Lumpkin, 2004). The ancient Greeks bestowed great honour
and prestige upon those who possessed athletic perfection through the emphasis on the anatomy of an
individual and their balanced life. This was coupled with the Olympic Games that were used to

agents in the competition for authority on faculty hiring practices. Administrators are in some ways
positioned hierarchically above professors in terms of financial decision making in the academic field,
but professors are also typically given autonomy to conduct faculty searches as appropriate for their
department. In cases like Brown University and many other large American universities,
administrators may have final say over whether a faculty hiring can occur, but rarely have authority to

to have the least amount of power in this struggle. As such, in this particular analysis, the professorial

Digital Rights Management in Software
No one could argue with the statement that when one pays money for something, they expect to get
both what is advertised and also to get their money s worth out of their purchase. It seems, however, in
today s digital media industry, companies are finding ways to get more of people s money and give
them less for it. This sort of, in essence, thievery has become more and more prevalent in today s
media. One of the biggest issues is what is called Digital Rights Management, or DRM. DRM has
been implemented by many, many digital based companies to protect their products, and on a small
scale, are effective and a good way for a company to ensure their software is protected in one manner
or another. The problem comes in when companies get too overzealous in their attempts to protect
their goods to the point where it becomes inconvenient and downright annoying to those who actually
buy their products. Another major issue in contemporary media is the swaying of reviews. There are a
growing number of instances in which companies who produce either television shows, movies,
books, or videogames will pay well respected reviewers and critics to spin their reviews to be positive,
even if the reviewer does not believe that to be the case, though perhaps the most common instances
of this sort are those which involves video games. The industry is not without hope, however, as there
are those that would oppose

A chemistry teacher wanted to teach his 9th grade class a lesson about the evils of liquor, so he

The second worm he put into the whiskey. It writhed painfully, and quickly sank to the bottom, dead

quot; Now, what lesson can we derive from this experiment? quot; the teacher asked.
One of the students raised his hand and wisely, responded, quot;Drink whiskey and you won t get

Contact
Based on the previous Carl Sagan s novel about an adolescent scientist s determinations to make
Contact with life itself beyond just our universe. The most famous quote that Sagan tells the story of
this movie is that there is billions and billions of stars up there . The fascinating science fiction
film/thriller of that century, Contact, combines many concepts that do not usually go together or are
thought about in relation to each other. That being the concept of faith, politics, and most importantly
science. This movie was released on July 11th, 1997 by producers Robert Zemeciks and Steve
Starkey. Dr.Ellie Arroway played by Jodie Foster rushes to translate a message that they think could
be coming from the Vega star system. When contact at first happens, Dr.Ellie Arroway communicates
with the constricting National Security Advisor Kitz who is played by James Woods. After this
unravels, they go in to see the possible problems with occurrence of this event. An out breaking
message is discovered in the signal, but the question is will Arroway be the only one to be able to
solve it or will there be more involved to help including theory s and arguments? Science versus
religion is one of the main topics and many topics of this movie which I can agree on as I watched this
thriller. Ellie doesn t believe in god and doesn t have a set religion and Palmer does so they clash
personalities a lot throughout Contact. I took interest in one character while watching Contact.

The major motion picture, Pearl Harbor, reflects upon a war that occurred a few decades ago rather
than the documentary filmed very shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Both movies depict the
attack as one that will live on in infamy, but the documentary takes a spiteful vengeance towards
Japan because it was filmed during a time of hatred towards the Japanese, our enemy. While the newer
movie has given us time to reflect upon the war and realize that we both underestimated the enemy
and knew very little about the other. While one movie was in black and white and the other was in

On the day after, President Roosevelt stood before Congress, and, after declaring December 7, 1941 to

  • 2. Theme Of Duality In Romeo And Juliet Duality is when one thing or idea contains two conflicting sides. Duality is a theme seen in both Jekyll and Hyde and Romeo and Juliet. In both of these works of literature there are many different ways that the theme of duality is displayed. There are also many instances in which duality is used in modern literature and entertainment, the movie Split for example. In these stories the duality of human nature is displayed by the characters and situations that are included. In the Shakespearean play named Romeo and Juliet duality is displayed mainly by quotes and situations. At the end of the play prince escalus says A glooming peace this morning with it brings (V iii 316). This quote shows duality when it describes peace with glooming. This is an adequate example of duality because while describing peace, which has a positive connotation, the word glooming, in which a negative connotation is used. Another quote that displays duality is what Friar Laurence says near the beginning of the play Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied,/ And vice sometime by action dignified (II iii 21 22). Obviously vice and virtue are opposite in nature, vice meaning something that is immoral or wicked, and virtue being something that displays high moral standards. Comparing these two very different things gives an idea of the dual nature of man. Duality is also used as a literary device that relates to irony. Irony is when the expectation of something is different than the reality. Although irony and duality are not the same thing, they are closely related as to how they are used, and in what situations they are used. The following quote is an example of dramatic irony and duality, O son, the night before thy wedding day/Hath Death lain with thy wife. There she lies,/Flower as she was, deflowerèd by him./Death is my son in law; Death is my heir (IV v 41 44). This quote shows dramatic irony because Lord Capulet believes that Juliet is dead even though we know that she is not; in addition it represents the theme of duality because it is saying that juliet is married to death. Marriage is being represented as a good thing, but turns into a bad thing when she is said to be married to death itself. In Romeo and Juliet there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Process Of Alternative Dispute Resolution The process of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a relatively new phenomena which has infiltrated contemporary next generation human resource management. As the use of ADR methods grew, proponents viewed them as promising mechanism s for an abundance of scenarios. Conflict has and always will be an inherent part of the workplace (Colvin 2003). It is for this reason alternative conflict resolution has amassed development, especially considering the cost of rigid normative procedures, with Gibbons (2007, p 7) estimating that employment conflict in the UK costing an estimated £410 million annually. Conflict is generated when one party perceives that another party has negatively influenced something the first party cares about (Huczynski and Buchanan 2007, p764). It is in this context that conflict resolution processes ought to address both the actions and perceptions of both parties in the dispute in order to garner more successful results (Willmott 1993). Therefore, in order to achieve this practically a significant shift was required from regular grievance strategies toward a more flexible and pragmatic system which promotes a positive outcome for both parties (Gibbons 2007, p 7). All forms of ADR will involve a third party with the role of the third party contingent on the type of ADR applied .The type of ADR used shall be dictated by the type of dispute, what stage it is at and ultimately the type of resolution being sought. It is against this backdrop that this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. I Tend My Flowers For Thee Rhetorical Devices Emily Dickinson s I tend my flowers for thee (Fr 367) is traditionally read as an expression of longing and desire. Her use of vivid descriptions of nature conjure images of soft petals juxtaposed against those thorny cacti and the notion of dreams interrupted by violent passion. However, a feminist reading of the poem reveals that it is Emily Dickinson s critical commentary on the patriarchal ideology that a woman s sense of personal fulfillment is contingent upon the presence of a romantic partner. The poem is iambic and each stanza follows the pattern: tetrameter/ dimeter/ trimester/ trimester. Its rhyme scheme reads: AABB/ CCDE/ FGHIJJK/ LMNMM/ OOAOOPA. Dickinson wrote I tend my flowers for thee in 1862. In her early thirties, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I tend my flowers for thee is wrought with vivid descriptions of not only plants and flowers, but also animal life, colors and sounds. In his 2015 article What Do Collections Tell Us? Teaching Dickinson s Poems, the Herbarium, and Contemporary and Historical Material Practices , Zach Marshall asserts that, in order to increase critical productivity, students should read Dickinson s poems in tandem with excerpts from Belknap Press s facsimile reproduction of Emily Dickinson s Herbarium. Marshall goes on to explain that this process will encourage interactivity between the students and Dickinson s poems within the often abstracted discipline of literary studies . This pedagogical technique also offers critical benefits, such as pushing students to think critically about the curatorial practices that influence the texts they work with, focusing attention on Dickinson s material writing practices, providing a context for understanding more unusual poems, and even forging a way for students to see connections between poetic practices and ecological practices (Marshall 58 59). This method of analyzing Dickinson s poems in which she utilizes plant imagery can provide useful supplemental critical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Dungeon And Dragons, Rock N Roll, And Video Games Dungeon and Dragons, Rock N Roll, and video games, these are three separate activities that when looked at from afar do not seem to have anything to do with each other. However, they in fact do have something fairly big in common. They each have been blamed with being either bad for you or a negative influence. Whether it be Dungeon and Dragons being satanic and making people lose touch with reality, Rock N Roll s cause of juvenile delinquency, or video games leading to violent and antisocial behavior. Now we know that at least two of those were far fetched, those being Rock N Roll and Dungeons and Dragons, but what about the third one video games. Do playing video games really end up making you a more violent person? Antisocial? Are you suddenly going to commit a mass shooting or some other violent crime just because you spent a few hours a day playing a video game? Perhaps it is the opposite are you going to become more social? Do you develop thinking skills, and better social skills even when interacting with people you have not met in person? Could it be both, or at least partially both? Well to put it simply it is partially both, now video games will not suddenly make you turn into a criminal, however, there is a possibility of negative behavioral effects. As one may know video games are a popular pastime in our current generation, and alongside that popularity comes controversy, due to the possible negative behavioral and health side effects. However, video games ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Istj Application Essay Example ISTJ So what is an ISTJ and who am I? As described above, I am a quiet and reserved individual who uses experience to make analytical decisions, but only after a lot of thought and analyzing! In the workplace, I keep to myself for the most part and do not do a lot of conversing with management that does not pertain to work. Most of my recent professional life has been leadership roles, so having someone working under me has been common for many years. In the workplace, I feel like I get along better with them. I feel that I can interact amongst the employees on the floor and be myself more than what I can with the guys dressed in suits. My positions are usually one of a supervisor or department manager, so I am a liaison between the entry level employees and upper management. Some people seem to get their bonus points by congregating with managers in their offices, but I m more comfortable amongst the hourly workers that get the work completed. Obviously, I can communicate with upper management, but keep it strictly professional with them. I keep work relationships minimal because I have been burned by them before and have learned from it. I hired friends to work as assistant managers under me for a period of time and saw my store begin to decline. I understood then that I could not have close friends in important positions under me because the inability to separate work from social life, and discipline and be taken serious, were too difficult at the time. • 10. Changes Within The Workplace After The Economy,... Changes in the workplace due to the economy, technology, and globalization have affected many lives in modern day society. In addition, managerial approaches have influenced changes organizations have faced throughout the years, which tend to affect an organization s workforce. For example, some of the changes organizations have had to encounter have been around the following, but are not limited to employee productivity, employee and organizational inefficiency, employee s personal and professional value, and organizational structure to name a few. Furthermore, managerial approaches going back centuries have molded certain expectations people and organizations have of each other. For example, many individuals during the industrial era had an expectation to contribute to his or her household at a young age. The feeling of this type of obligation at times in today s society are seen, but are not as prevalent. Instead of young people focusing on their studies, and skill set, they often have to find employment that he or she initially do not want to do, which often times leads to entry level positions that are typically left. Allowing managers to often alienate and exploit the employee. What this often leads to in organizations is the ineffective managerial approaches often throwing the human element out the window. Through alienating employees, it denies him or her meaningful work, which in turns reduces opportunities for growth. The exploitation of employees occurs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Neorealism As A Response Of Realism Theory Devised By Hans... Neorealism in IR theory Neorealism has often been associated with Waltz (1979). Actually, neorealism is a response of realism theory devised by Hans Morgenthau (1948), which assumes that all affecting factors for cooperation and discord or peace and war are only under certain conditions (Keohane, 1986, p. 2 3). Neorealism has been the most prominent and influential approach in the field of IR theory since the early 1980s. Mikhail Gorbachev and Kim Il Sung were the examples of leaders that had neorealism approach in their foreign policy behavior (Malici, 2009, p. 132). Unlike realism, neorealism assumes that world politics is an anarchy environment. Anarchy here means the absence of centralized government (Waltz, 1979 ; Oye, 1985). In that sense, neorealism is an attempt to update and modify the concept of realism theory in international politics (Aliyev, 2011). In its development, neorealism experienced some additional concepts. These concepts are devised by many next generations of neo realist scholars, e.g. Oye (1985), Keohane (1986), Buzan (1993), Jervis (1997), and so forth with variations of definitions (Dibek, 2012). This essay uses the concept of neorealism from Waltz and its modification from Oye. The basic concept is that cooperation can still be developed under anarchy, or the absence of government, which associated with the occurrence of violence and lead to conflict (Waltz, 1979, p. 102 128 ; Oye, 1985, p. 1 24). The plague began with a high fever to the head and made its way down to the different parts of the body, destroying it along the way, leaving its mark wherever possible. Lao Tzu, the author of the Tao Te Ching, who defines good as having faith in the Tao to better the world and oneself, and Dante, who wrote The Divine Comedy and defines good as faith the way of heaven and hell and in the punishments of sinners, take very different approaches to defining the path to virtuousness. Lao Tzu defines what is good and focuses on the reward of achieving that goodness, while Dante defines the good by exemplifying the bad to inspire fear through the prospect of punishment. In the model of good versus evil one can focus on achieving good or avoiding evil by setting an example that appeals to peoples interest in bettering their own lives or in bettering their society. The good as defined by Lao Tzu can be more effectively and universally achieved through a system of reward that defines the good such as is done in the Tao Te Ching rather than using a system of punishment that defines good by exemplifying the bad through the sinners as Dante does. During the second world war, waged on the second largest continent in the world, there were people who literally changed the outcome of this great struggle. Throughout his life s work, Roland Barthes has expressed a wide range of diverse views on various aspects of literary theory and formulating important analysis techniques; initially exploring and redefining structuralism, and eventually defining post structuralism. In the 1960 s, when An Introduction to the Structural Analysis of Narrative was first published, traditional structuralist thinking and method was already starting to shift towards post structuralism. Still, Barthes brings up Saussure s ideas in an analogy to his own, approaching literary texts in a similar way a structuralist would approach a sentence by breaking them down into the smallest units and analysing the structure of these units. The essay begins by pointing out the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Function is described as the smallest unit of a narrative, which is later classified into four functions: nuclei, catalysts, indices, and informants. Therefore, a function is not a static unit of narrative; it can shift to different levels and interact with other units. The level of action is necessary to describe characters in a literary work. This was the first considerable shift from traditional structuralism: From the very first, structural analysis showed the utmost reluctance to treat the characters an essence, even for classification purposes (256). Barthes claims that each character (or actor ) in a narrative is a part of a certain sphere of action where he then interacts with other characters. To avoid confusion with the trivial actions that form within the functional level, Barthes points out that the action in the level of action is understood as a larger articulation of activity between the characters. The last level of narration focuses on the function of a narrator, which has also been neglected by the most structuralist thinkers before. Barthes points out that the narrator and the recipient of narrative are always connected to each other. Furthermore, describing the level of narration, he makes a crucial point about the narrator: Now, at least from our viewpoint, both narrator and characters are essentially paper beings . The living author of a narrative can in no way be mistaken for the narrator of that narrative (261). Barthes s ideas of dehumanizing of the narrator, as well as his focus on characters and actions in a narrative were quite innovative at the time, but the whole essay is still written from a largely structuralist ... • 28. Pros And Cons Of Corporal Punishment In Schools The bell rings. Students walk to art class where they are told not to drop the rulers on the floor. One student accidentally drops the ruler, hoping the teacher will not notice, fearing he will be beaten. However, the teacher sees it and paddles the student five times. The student now has severe bruising on his bottom just for dropping a ruler. This is not how it should be. Thirty nine states have banned corporal punishment because it is dangerous in schools and not a suitable punishment for students(Morin). Corporal Punishment should not be allowed in schools because it promotes violence, it creates an unsafe environment, and it has a lasting impact on kids. Corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools because it promotes violence. Many students have been beaten by their teachers for doing something negative in school, and have gotten the message that violence is a good thing. The American Academy of Pediatrics has stated some examples of this in the article Should Corporal Punishment Be Used in K 12 Schools .They explained that Children who experience corporal punishment are more likely to hit or use violence against people to get their way. (Procon.com) This example shows that schools that use corporal punishment, teach that it is ok to use violence to get what students want. • 30. Examples Of Imperialism In Passage To India Introduction E.M. Forster s novel A Passage to India is set between the British Raj and the Independence Movement of India. It is set in India, in the early 20th century, when India was still one of the British colonies. With the novel, Forster in a way challenges the belief that the British had the right to colonize Indians. One of the main reasons of the British colonization was that the British believed they were superior to those who were poorer than them, and those whose skin was different than theirs; they believed it was their duty to civilize the savages . After the publication of the novel in 1924, as Mohammad Shaheen states in his work E.M. Forster and the Politics of Imperialism , the public were divided as to whether the novel was a masterpiece or a political statement. He was strongly criticized by those who supported the British Empire, but supported by all those who, like him, questioned the methods of British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Césaire poses a question: is imperialism a right passage to India? Administrators are in some ways positioned hierarchically above professors in terms of financial decision making in the academic field, but professors are also typically given autonomy to conduct faculty searches as appropriate for their department. In cases like Brown University and many other large American universities, administrators may have final say over whether a faculty hiring can occur, but rarely have authority to select (or even veto) candidates. Students, undergraduate and graduate, are also agents, but are likely to have the least amount of power in this struggle. • 36. Digital And The Digital Rights Management Jacob Barbour Thompson ENG 111 I1 11 5 15 Digital Rights Management in Software No one could argue with the statement that when one pays money for something, they expect to get both what is advertised and also to get their money s worth out of their purchase. It seems, however, in today s digital media industry, companies are finding ways to get more of people s money and give them less for it. This sort of, in essence, thievery has become more and more prevalent in today s media. One of the biggest issues is what is called Digital Rights Management, or DRM. DRM has been implemented by many, many digital based companies to protect their products, and on a small scale, are effective and a good way for a company to ensure their software is protected in one manner or another. The problem comes in when companies get too overzealous in their attempts to protect their goods to the point where it becomes inconvenient and downright annoying to those who actually buy their products. Another major issue in contemporary media is the swaying of reviews. There are a growing number of instances in which companies who produce either television shows, movies, books, or videogames will pay well respected reviewers and critics to spin their reviews to be positive, even if the reviewer does not believe that to be the case, though perhaps the most common instances of this sort are those which involves video games. The industry is not without hope, however, as there are those that would oppose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The most famous quote that Sagan tells the story of this movie is that there is billions and billions of stars up there . The fascinating science fiction film/thriller of that century, Contact, combines many concepts that do not usually go together or are thought about in relation to each other. That being the concept of faith, politics, and most importantly science. This movie was released on July 11th, 1997 by producers Robert Zemeciks and Steve Starkey. Dr.Ellie Arroway played by Jodie Foster rushes to translate a message that they think could be coming from the Vega star system. When contact at first happens, Dr.Ellie Arroway communicates with the constricting National Security Advisor Kitz who is played by James Woods. After this unravels, they go in to see the possible problems with occurrence of this event. An out breaking message is discovered in the signal, but the question is will Arroway be the only one to be able to solve it or will there be more involved to help including theory s and arguments? Both movies depict the attack as one that will live on in infamy, but the documentary takes a spiteful vengeance towards Japan because it was filmed during a time of hatred towards the Japanese, our enemy. While the newer movie has given us time to reflect upon the war and realize that we both underestimated the enemy and knew very little about the other. While one movie was in black and white and the other was in color with millions spent on the fighting scenes, they both depict the same war. I felt that there was too much ...
