Essay Comparing An Invitation To A Murder
The passage An Invitation to a Murder written by Josh Pachter, included a variety of similarities and
differences to the drama The Dying Detective written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Josh Pachter described
the scene of the gathering for the murder a locked room mystery. Furthermore, the poison that killed
Mrs. Abbott was in a medicine bottle; however, the poison that killed Victor Savage was from an ivory
box. In contrast, the poison that murdered Victor Savage was presented in an ivory box. Moreover, the
mood articulated in An Invitation to a Murder was happy for the reason that Mrs. Abbott thought life
would be improved after her husband s death. Conversely, the mood in The Dying Detective was
sorrowful as everyone suspected Sherlock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Dying Detective, it explained that Sherlock Holmes was literally dying from the prick of
poison. To add, it explained that Mr. Culverton Smith was an expert on the poison that was injected
into the ivory box; later we learned that Mr. Culverton Smith was indeed the one who injected it into
the box in the first place. In An Invitation to a Murder, the crossbones on the prescription medication
was believed to be a symbol of poison. Additionally, all of the supplies on the center of the table were
items that would typically kill a person; yet, none of those belongings killed Mr. Abbott. Furthermore,
both stories were premeditated murders. Mrs. Abbott knew that the twelve intelligent inspectors would
prevent her from giving her husband the suspicious medication. Therefore, Mr. Abbott s heart would
stop beating and he would eventually die. On the other hand, Sherlock Holmes planned out every
detail of the situation and what would happen. He knew that Dr. Watson would be concerned about
Mr. Culverton Smith arriving and would like to stay. This created a witness for Mr. Culverton Smith
confessing the crime he committed. Lastly, both of the passages had evidence that exemplified
situational irony. Mrs. Abbott was dressed in black to grieve the death of herself and her disabled
husband. Moreover, the investigators that were going to witness the murder, became the murderers. In
the other story,

The Four Characteristics Of Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence (EQ or EI) is a term created in 1990 by two American university professors,
Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer. Daniel Goleman popularized Emotional Intelligence in his book
that was published in 1995. Goleman was a science writer for the New York Times and he specialized
in brain and behavior research. Emotional Intelligence is defined as the ability to recognize,
understand and manage your own emotions and influence the emotions of others. This means that we
are aware that emotions can drive our behavior and impact others either positively or negatively.
Emotional Intelligence includes three skills: emotional awareness; the ability to harness emotions and
apply them to tasks like thinking and problem solving; and the ability to manage emotions. According
to Goleman, cognitive intelligence does not guarantee business success but emotional intelligence .
The four characteristics of emotionally intelligent people are self awareness, self management, social
awareness and social skills. In 1998, Goleman published a book called Working with Emotional
Intelligence where he defined emotional intelligence saying that it consist of 25 skills, abilities and
competencies. Compared to Intelligence Quotient or IQ is a score received from standardized
assessments designed to test intelligence. It is one s ability to learn, understand and apply information
to skills sets. It includes logical reasoning, word comprehension and math skills. Other people debate

Network Security Is Becoming A Big Issue For Many Companies
With technology evolving as rapidly as it is, network security is becoming a big issue for many
companies. Publicly sharing information on cloud networks and other platforms are making for
convenient but very vulnerable systems. So the leading tech companies really need to devote more
resources into their security teams and fight back against the hacking attacks. The Lizard Squad and
any other hacking group are constantly learning new ways to hack into a company s security system;
companies like Sony and Microsoft need to staff their security team with people who know and learn
the world of hacking perhaps more than the hackers themselves. Good security team will be

Budget Transition
A Brief Historical Review of Budget Transitions
Given the size and intricacy of the federal government, transition planning is a formidable task. An
incoming president is responsible for making more than 4,000 appointments and managing an
organization with a budget of nearly $4 trillion and more than 2 million civilian employees performing
missions as diverse as national defense, education, preventing the spread of disease and managing an
energy infrastructure. Any candidate for the presidency must be ready to handle the demands of
leading a massive organization on day one.
The presidential budgetary transition can be broken down into 3 distinct phases; pre election planning,
post election transition and post inaugural handover. Each of these stages takes a differing and
increasingly in depth approach to the budget.
Pre planning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The appointment of Cabinet positions solidifies the President Elect s budget proposals by
implementing staff that the President has vetted to fulfill his budgetary goals.
Lastly, the post inaugural or handover period, which works in a more managerial role within the
budget process, including managing the budget s first 100 days in office, developing policy priorities
and working on urgent issues, and conducting agency assessments to review the budget that the
incoming President has preordained with his Cabinet.
The complexity of the presidential transition process is simplified when it is broken down into
manageable work streams such as policy implementation, agency review, presidential appointments,
and operations.

Cinderella In Therapy Essay
Cinderella in Therapy
In the movie Cinderella, Cinderella is a maid to an evil stepmother and two very heartless and
obnoxious stepsisters. The only reason that Cinderella still puts up with their orders is an example of
the Behavioral perspective. The Behavioral Perspective puts emphasis on learning by experience with
rewards and punishments. She knows that if she does not do the chores, she will be punished or
thrown out of the household. She does not have anywhere to go because her mother and father have
passed away. Because Cinderella is a genuinely kind human being who wishes to please, she usually
does not stick up for herself against the others in the household. She is used to taking on the brunt of

She is very kind to all creatures, whether it be animals or humans. Cinderella takes it upon herself to
robe, feed, and befriend the animals of the house. She takes care of her evil stepmother and stepsisters
because she is good at heart, and she will put up with their torture to help them. She could choose not
to help them, or just to leave, but she knows that she won t have anything left, and they need her. It is
because of this pure, perfect attitude that the prince falls in love with her instantly, and not with the
other girls that just want to be with the prince for superficial reasons. Her effervescent kind
heartedness that prevails through her hardships is an example of the humanistic perspective. The
humanistic perspective views behavior as controlled by the decisions that people make about their
lives based on their perceptions of the world. It s a view in which personality is seen as developing
through an actualizing tendency which unfolds in accordance with each person s unique perceptions of
the world.
There are some small parts in the movie that infer what Cinderella wants through her dreams. This
would be an example of psychoanalysis which is a method that seeks to help gain insight into one s
mind by recognizing and understanding unconscious thoughts and emotions. She mentions that she
dreams at night of finding someone who will take her away from the house she is spending her days in
now.

Attractive Nuisance Essay
Question Presented Whether Sherman, under the attractive nuisance doctrine, will likely prevail
against Carlisle for multiple injuries he sustained in a fall from wooden steps of a tree house in
disrepair while trespassing upon Carlisle s property when: (1) Carlisle was aware that the
neighborhood surrounding his property was populated with children; (2) a severe storm had damaged
Carlisle s property and exposed the previously concealed tree house; (3) Sherman was six years of age
at the time of his injury; (4) Carlisle had little incentive to make repairs to the tree house prior to the
storm because of its concealment; (5) immediately following the storm, Carlisle made arrangements

Upon entering the yard, they discovered the tree house. The tree house was inaccessible but for a
frayed piece of rope that had once been part of a ladder. The rope was beyond the reach of Sherman
and the others, so they swung themselves over the lower branches of the tree to reach the lower
landing of the tree house. They successfully managed to hoist themselves onto the lower landing from
where they began to run along the labyrinth like walkways and steps in a race to reach the top of the
tree house. Sherman was running ahead of the others but tumbled when one of the worn slatted steps
splintered and gave way. Sherman fell a long distance to the ground and sustained multiple injuries.
Discussion
The attractive nuisance doctrine is based on the fundamental fact that children do not possess the same
judgment or ability to recognize risk as adults. Johnson v. Wood, 155 Fla. 753, 21 So. 2d (Fla. 1945).
Its purpose is to afford the trespassing child, where the elements of the doctrine are met, the same
protection, applying the principles of ordinary negligence that would be afforded an invitee on the
premises. Martinello v. B amp; P USA, Inc., 566 So. 2d 762 (Fla. 1990). The burden of proof is upon
the plaintiff to demonstrate that each element of the attractive nuisance doctrine is satisfied. Id. at 764.
If the plaintiff proves each element of the doctrine, the

Flavian Amphitheatre
Good Evening! I am Amias, a merchant living in Subura, Rome. Today, I m going to the Flavian
Amphitheatre, also known as the Colosseum. The word amphitheatre means an open air venue used
for entertainment, performances, and sports. The Colosseum is known as one of the biggest
entertainment center for the people of Rome. My friend wanted me to go meet him before we go
watch the match together. I am very excited and left the house very shortly. While I was walking to
see my friend at his house, I saw a patrician shouting at a slave. Patricians were the upper class
people, who owns land. While, the slaves were people that are bought to do labor work, and they do

We are very happy and excited to meet each other. The quality of life during the Roman Empire was
very good for most people. It was the time during Pax Romana, where everything is peaceful and
people were enjoying their life. Soon, my friend and I reached the Colosseum and heard people
screaming and shouting. We saw many people, estimated to be around 30,000. Also, we saw many
gladiators in the battle arena. The gladiators in the Colosseum were mostly slaves, and they are forced
to fight. Sometimes, the group of gladiators will fight with each other, or even with wild animals.
These people doesn t have many rights, and their quality of life is very bad. The group of people with
the most rights and the best quality of life were the patricians. It was late that night, when the match
ended and resulted in many casualties. I was very sad to see many people died, but my friend told me
that the slaves had done something very bad. The Colosseum was also used as a place for public
executions. My friend and I said farewell to each other before leaving the Colosseum. I walked all the
way back home thinking about how wealth can change the quality of life for a person. Sadly waiting

Police Officer Probation Officer
How does the ability to conduct legal searches differ between the police officer, probation officer, and
corrections officer in the performance of their duties? There are vast and simiular reasons that all of
these officers have to conduct legal searches.
For police officers as we learned in several chapters, there are issues that come with their abilities to
conduct legal searches, for example a police officer cannot just approach someone on their front porch
and demand to enter their home to search for illegal substances or arms etc. However, if one was
driving by your home and seen you in your garage with what appeared to be a meth lab or marijuana
grow operation then they can stop to search as it would be a duty of theirs to protect the community. A
search where one person would feel that they have a reasonable expectation of privacy cannot happen
without a warrant. The police officers job abilities can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

With the Revolution, came changes to the battlefield. Strategies changed and even the uniforms did
too, starting with the battle techniques, guerilla warfare was a big player in this war, a technique also
used by Spain in the late French Revolution against Napoleon. Guerilla warfare is also known as hit
and run. (Ellis) By using this technique, it kept the British very busy by taking out small forts to keep
the enemy from causing a large scale defeat. Another change from the battlefield was that there was
less face to face fighting and more stealth action. Previously, battles were fought, as you would
imagine it would be in lines marching steadily toward each other. This form of fighting still happened,
but no two battles are the exact same. Another change that dramatically affected the playing field was
the uniforms. During the American Revolution what you will hear a lot is, The red coats are what
brought the down fall of the British forces. But its not as much the red coats but the camouflage of the
Revolutionaries. The Americans introduced earth tones and darker colors to hide themselves in the
forests. Washington trained and equipped the soldiers and kept their moral together which played a
strong role in the war efforts. His perseverance created a level head state of mind that pushed the
troops through the war.

The Popular Culture And The Vision Of Pop Culture
The Television Vision
There are many numerous beautiful cultures in this world we all follow, one of them is called Pop
Culture. It s defined as events where a lot of people is affected and attracted by the mass media. It s
like a cultural artifact that s created by humans for information. This phenomenon began around
World War 2 times when innovations in mass media led to significant cultural and social changes. It
began to merge with the dealings of mass culture, consumer culture, image culture, media culture and
culture in general for consumption all over the world. As we carefully study the popular culture, it
helps us to better understand what the society is embracing and how the culture changed over time. It s

People couldn t imagine their day without a news broadcast or interesting film. Therefore, television
became a very important and influential part of the culture in our daily life.
Television was created to give us better communication and give us a chance to better connect with
families or friends because most people are so busy that they do not have much time to spend with
their family and friends. It plays an important role in promoting communication because people are
more likely to become actively engaged with anything that attracts them. It holds the possibility for
people to know about numerous events happening all over the world and to also to help try to prevent
some situations in countries. Any television show or movie can provide people with an escape from
reality. Television ties to pop culture because it helps people, find new things to endure with its rich
topics. It provides people a lot of new knowledge and learnings from many different cultures to
implement in their daily lives.
Television can bring so much to the table, but it also has its positives and negatives. Television can be
negative as it contains a variety of information and we simply cannot be sure if some of that
information we get from television is true. There are many people who believe TV is responsible for
the dumbing down of society; that children watch too much television; and that it has contributed to
the obesity problem many people endure.

To What Extent Does the Mise-En-Scene in ‘Night of the...
To what extent does the Mise en Scene in Night of the Hunter reinforce an understanding of the film s
mood, character and narrative themes?
The term Mise en Scene is used to signify the director s control over what happens in the film frame.
In English the phrase literally translates to putting in the scene (Bordwell, 2010a). Night of the Hunter
(Charles Laughton, 1955) is a prime example of a film that uses aspects of Mise en Scene to sway the
audience s opinions of characters and their understanding of narrative themes and to create a certain
atmosphere in the film. Although the fundamental aspects of Mise en Scene in both theatre and cinema
are those of lighting, blocking and production design (costume, props and sets), ... Show more content

The way the actor fluctuates between being composed and being suddenly aggressive expresses the
psychotic nature of his personality. However, even when he is composed the actor still manages to
give an unsettling performance. Although a lot of this is communicated through lighting techniques
and non diegetic music, the actor was required to give a rather edgy performance. This performance in
Night of the Hunter allows, in the narrative, the more strong minded characters such as John Harper
and Rachel Cooper to see through his disingenuity. We are shown Rachel Cooper and John Harper s
discomfort by their facial expressions, most prominently when Reverend Powell is giving his speeches
about love and hate.
The costume of Reverend Powell is also instrumental to the narrative in Night of the Hunter as the he
relies upon his typical preacher outfit to fool the unsuspecting characters, the costume having obvious
connotations of good morals. Similarly, makeup is employed in this film but this time to signify a
progression in narrative. This is apparent when the kids are on the journey down the river, their eyes
made dark with makeup. This indicates to the audience that the children have been travelling for a
long time. The setting of the river is also significant in this film. Just like the western road movie
genre, when the children escape, it can be seen as a

Analysis Of The Secretary Of Labor V Performance...
It is alarming to know that each year there are over 4,500 scaffold injuries and 65 deaths
(Occupational Safety and Health Administration [OSHA], 2016). In addition, there is a high risk for
construction workers to be struck from objects falling off scaffolds. With these facts in mind, the
Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission s (OSHRC) 2013 case of the Secretary of Labor
v Performance Contracting, Inc. (PCI) raises questions as to why violations of OSHA s scaffold
standards are sometimes considered other than serious. Understanding that OSHA gives the Secretary
of Labor the tasks of rulemaking and enforcement of its rules, it also gives the task of carrying out the
legal process to the commission which both parties accepted, as well as PCI engaging as a business
affecting interstate commerce (Secretary of Labor v. PCI, 2013, pp. 2 3). Knowledge of the case s
background, parties involved, arguments presented, cases used to reach a verdict, and final ruling
provide insight to the penalties assessed, significance, and personal opinion. As detailed in OSHRC s

Direct and Indirect Methods of Communication with the Gods...
Both directly and indirectly, the Ancient Greeks communicated with their gods through various
methods that ranged from oracles and seers to sacrifice. The oracles of ancient Greece were consulted
on issues ranging from serious community matters to private healing and served as a conduit for
communication between the mortals and the gods. Seers and oracles were an important part of Ancient
Greek divination through which the gods provided with insight of events to come. In addition,
sacrifice at the hearth or public bonfires were used as a means of direct communication with the gods
in order to convey prayers to the heavens.
In terms of indirect communication with the gods, one of the most famous methods was consulting an
oracle. One of the most popular oracles of Ancient Greece was the Oracle of Delphi. People would
journey for days to visit this oracle and hear the wisdom of the gods which she received through a gift
from Apollo, the god of prophecy. Receiving a prophecy was a lengthy process which started with the
oracle bathing in the spring of Castalia and drinking from another nearby stream. A priest would then
determine if Apollo was present by pouring ice water on a goat. If the goat shivered the oracle was
ready to give the prophecy, and if not then Apollo was not present and therefore she was not ready to
deliver a prophecy (Pythia Prophecies, 2014). When she spoke, the pythia would be seated on a tripod
over a small opening in the ground, the opening released gases

Tracheobronchomalacia. Tracheobronchomalacia is the collapse of the trachea and one or both of the
bronchi. This occurs do to the softening of the cartilaginous rings. The collapse can be classified in
many ways but the shape of the airway after they are affected can be classified as crescent, which is
when one side of the bronchial tube is caved in which causes it to have a crescent shape, or concentric
which is when all sides of the tubes collapse and it creates a circular hole in the middle in which air
can pass through. When we are born, the cartilaginous rings that support our trachea and bronchial
tubes are made up of hyaline cartilage. Over time these rings are supposed to go through the process
of ossification and harden. When the cartilage does not harden and there is something that causes the

Judge s life in order to convey a new message of society s high value on public opinion. The selection

He supports him by clarifying if his one questionable deed, among a thousand praiseworthy, or, at
least, blameless ones would characterize the Judge too bee seen as evil. However, the narrator s main
point is plainly stated in the last few sentences. Judge Pyncheon s problem is not that he abandoned
his son, or that he dress very nicely but, that he never looks inwardly, and resolutely taking the idea of
himself from what purports to be his image . According to the narrator looking within yourself and
taking care of yourself emotionally is above all more important than the thousands of good deeds you
could do. For The Judge when he looks into the mirror he sees a reflection the reverse of what he is
the public s opinion. This opinion and image he has built up forces him to lose sight on his self
knowledge. The only way for Judge Pyncheon to truly find himself is through loss of property and
reputation. In the public s perception, the Judge is a model of austerity and morality. He does many
good works and plays many key roles in his community that he is a praiseworthy character. As the
narrator reveals more about Judge Pyncheon through sarcasm and long descriptions is the trait of his

Nick s Love for the Gatsby in The Great Gatsby
During the 1920 s American culture was centered around status and wealth, especially in the east, in
hopes of living the true American dream . Although most people became shallow, empty, and careless
in their paths to wealth, often hurting those who have less then them, and making them pay the
consequences of their immoral actions. But Jay Gatsby was unlike every other hollow person in the
East, because he had something to live for, fight for, and dream for; Daisy Buchanan. His love for her
gave him the strength to keep believing in the American dream and the drive to accomplish it. Gatsby
restores Nicks faith in the people of the 1920 s by showing him that not everyone is shallow and
selfish, and that in order to live the American dream, hope and determination can not be lost. Nick s
love for Gatsby became more and more apparent throughout the novel. Gatsby was an: extraordinary
gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I[Nick] have never found in any other person and which it
is not likely I[he] shall ever find again .(2) Gatsby aspired for something and someone, which gave
him a depth to him that no other character Nick met throughout the novel had. He had loved Daisy
from the moment they met, and from then on, dedicated his life to winning her back, after he had lost
her when he went off to war. He weaved his endless love for her, into his vision of the american dream
and decided form that moment on see that dream out in order to win Daisy back. In the 1920 s many

Jimmy Carter Literature Review
Jimmy Carter was a very avid Christian before, during and after his time in office. He is commonly
acknowledged of being one of the most religious presidents in history. The purpose of this literature
review is to give an overview of how academia interprets Carter s religiosity. Berggren and Rae
(2006) describe Carter as an Evangelical style president with a strong devotion to his corresponding
Evangelical Faith. He is referred to being the born again president. Carter had a born again experience
during his pre presidential life which supports he was evangelist during this part of his life. In this
experience, he questioned his faith after a failed attempt to become governor. It wasn t until his sister,
a devout evangelist, spoke to and convinced him that he had not fully dedicated himself to God, that
he had a born again realization and devoted himself to Christ. Carter s Evangelical Faith is further
supported by him referencing himself as born again and saying, I believe God wants me to be the best
politician I can be (Lindsay, 2007). Lindsay s article also reasons that at the beginning of his
presidency Carter had a high rate of evangelical approval because these people could easily connect
with like minded president. Carter s evangelism religiosity is demonstrated by these two sources
before and during his early administration but gives no insight into how might have changed during
and after his presidency. Preston (2012, 575) expands on Carter s evangelical

World War 1 Research Paper
World War I, which lasted from 1914 to 1918, was one of the bloodiest wars in the history of the
world, its horrors surpassed only by World War II. The start of the war can be traced back to the
assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria Hungary in June 1918 by Gavrilo Princip, a
member of a Bosnian Serb rebel group wishing to liberate ethnically Serbian parts of Bosnia from the
Austro Hungarian Empire and integrate them with the neighboring Kingdom of Serbia. The
assassination led to a cascade of events which ended in full scale conflict in Europe and other parts of
the world between the Allied Powers, consisting of most notably France, the United Kingdom, Russia,
Japan, Italy and later in the war, the United States, and the Central Powers: Germany, Austria Hungary
and the Ottoman Empire. The war ended four years later with the defeat of the Central Powers. The
Treaty of Versailles drafted in 1919, was one of the numerous attempts by the Allied Powers to
achieve revenge on Germany and dismantle its economy. The treaty caused great unrest in Germany
and dissatisfaction with the nascent postwar German government, the Weimar Republic. The unrest
and dissatisfaction led to the rise of the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP or Nazi
Party) and its intent to destroy and replace the Weimar Republic. The aftermath of World War I,
including the treatment of Germans by the Allied Powers through the Treaty of Versailles led to a rise
in radical German nationalism

healing in Spanish and was chosen because every time the youth smiles his mother says it heals her
and makes her happy no matter what. Jace was born in 2015 to a mixed family, his father is half
Hispanic and half African American and the mother is half African American and half Caucasian, but
Jace definitely takes after his father. Jace looks almost identical to the pictures of his father at the same

Character Analysis Of Ark Angel

Mr. Mariano
English 9
13 November 2017
Ark Angel Book Report A complex character is a character that has a variety of traits and different
sides to their personality. In this story, the complex character I chose was Alex Rider. This is because
throughout the story, he does many intriguing, engaging, and critical actions. This is what makes him
my complex character. Over the course of the story, Alex learns how to deal with and cope with
people trying to kill him. Analytically and effectively, he interacts with the characters in different ways
as the story goes on when he learns the good and bad people.
The novel starts off with Alex Rider in a hospital recovering from an assassination attempt caused by
the terrorist organization Scorpia. He meets a teen his age named Paul Drevin son of Russian
multibillionare Nikolei Drevin and host of the Ark Angel project and forms an alliance with him. This
action is complex because forming an alliance can be very difficult. Later, one night, a group of four
men arrive in the hospital in an attempt to kidnap Paul Drevin. Alex, in an attempt to rescue Paul,
pretends to be Paul himself and overpowers the four men, before eing knocked out by a fifth man.
This shows how complex he is. Alex is captured by the men and taken to an abandoned apartment.
The men reveal themselves to be Force Three, an eco terrorist group led by a man named Kaspar. Alex
proves that he is not Paul Drevin, but Force Three burns the tower and leaves Alex to die anyway he
escapes using a tightrope. Horowitz describes, I m not afraid of Force Three, he blustered. I m not
afraid of anyone (6). This quote shows how Rider is intriguing. Apparently grateful for Paul being
spared, Nikolei Drevin invites him to come and stay in luxury with him for two weeks. When Alex
arrives in Drevin s house, he befriends Paul, but decides to leave him and Drevin when they arrive in
New York. At the New York airport, Alex is taken to the CIA, who tells him that Drevin is a banker for
numerous criminal organizations. The CIA recruits Alex to continue his vacation with Drevin to
investigate him. When they arrive in Flamingo Bay, Drevin s private island, Drevin discovers that

Benito Mussolini
The interwar period was perhaps the most lethal, with multiple fascist uprisings in Europe, and with
them the rise of sports, especially football, as a political tool. Benito Mussolini capitalized on the fact
that the 1934 World Cup was to take place in Italy, by drawing on the athletic imagery of the Roman
Empire, where Mussolini himself chose the referees for each game, culminating in the Italians
bringing the trophy home that year (Duffy, 2003). Jules Rimet, president of FIFA, remained seated
when the Italian national team gave the fascist salute to Mussolini after the game (Eisenberg, 2005).

On September 8th, 1939, the FA announced that all football, except that organized by the military, was
to be halted until official notice to the contrary (Mason, A. n.d. 10 Facts... ). Contrary to 1914 with the
onset of World War I, when professional football had continued for the first year of war, England
recognized that the threat coming from Nazi Germany s invasion of Poland just a week earlier on
September 1st, was much more imminent (Whitlock, 2016). Unfortunately, the English people
realized that football would be the only constant left for them in this war torn environment and
therefore protested heavily against this ban. There were two problems with the fans complaints: first,
the government had imposed a 50 mile traveling limit on railroads because they were needed to move
military supplies and soldiers, and second, that there was a limit of only 8,000 people per stadium due
to threats of Nazi bombardments (Whitlock, 2016). Nevertheless, the FA managed to put together
several regional leagues across the country that evaded these restrictions and solved the problem of
many footballers themselves being drafted into military service. This was difficult in itself, however,
because after the Luftwaffe s first bombing raid on London, July 10, 1940, many historic English
stadia were damaged or

Software Piracy Essay
Software Piracy:
A Worldwide Problem Software piracy is defined as the illegal copying of software for commercial or
personal gain. Software companies have tried many methods to prevent piracy, with varying degrees
of success. Several agencies like the Software Publishers Association and the Business Software
Alliance have been formed to combat both worldwide and domestic piracy. Software piracy is an
unresolved, worldwide problem, costing millions of dollars in lost revenue. Software companies have
used many different copy protection schemes. The most annoying form of copy protection is the use
of a key disk. This type of copy protection requires the user to insert the original disk every time the

A rather unique strategy used by American software manufactures helps raise local interest in stopping
software piracy. Companies invest money to begin software corporations in foreign countries. After a
few years, the US companies hope that the new, foreign companies will initiate their own anti piracy
organizations (Weisband 30). Microsoft has led the venture by creating small software companies to
help battle piracy. By doing this, the companies would want to report piracy because they would be
losing money just like American companies are doing now (Weisband 33). The Software Publishers
Association, based in Washington, D.C., was developed to combat software piracy. As of 1993 the
SPA has brought more than 1300 court cases against software pirates. The SPA has a toll free number
that has helped catch many pirates and prosecute them (O Malley 50). The SPA is not merely a law
enforcement agency. It meets twice a year with representatives from software companies. Together
they decide how to make their software better and also how to better serve the consumer. In the spring
1993 conference the SPA decided that if software packages could develop a standard way to clearly
label a software box, the consumer would immediately know if the program would run well on his
computer. This labeling would help reduce the number of software returns in stores (Karnes 4). Since
software stores cannot resell returned software, the

Flag Desecration Essays
Throughout history, Americans have fought hard to gain independence and the freedoms that come
with it. However, some choose to test the limitations of those freedoms. For some time, Americans
have shown their disgust of the American government by burning flags, and even cutting them up to
use as clothing. Although mocking the American government and the flag is disrespectful, revoking
the right to do so would be a violation of freedom of expression, which is guaranteed by the First
Amendment. Those who support the no flag burning amendment argue that the United States flag is a
special case. Because it would undermine the constitution and set a dangerous precedent that will

Our constitution must not be tampered with just because flag desecration hurts others feelings. Many
feel that the American flag amendment is a special case. Supreme Court Chief William Rehnquist
claimed it was acceptable to have a narrow, special amendment to protect a special flag from
desecration. ( Consequences 2). Even Thomas Jefferson and James Madison denounced flag burning
as a crime (Brady H 2). Others feel that flag desecration disrespects those who lost their lives for our
country, stating the flag symbolizes the blood that runs through our country. George Whalen, a soldier,
said the stars and stripes of our nations flag is the symbol of our nation s values... It represents loyalty
patriotism and love of our country. ( citizens 3). Those against flag desecration must remember that
the men and women who fought and died for our country were fighting for justice, freedom, and
independence, all of which give one the right to desecrate the flag. Yes, the flag represents these
freedoms, but the constitution ensures them. An amendment revoking this right would lead to limited
individual freedoms and a lack personal responsibility. In addition to violating one s rights of freedom
of expression, the no flag burning amendment gives government the power to decide what American

The National Safety And Quality Health Service
Demonstrate Reflection: Form, Present and Support Own Opinions
The National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standard 2 Partnering with Consumers
requires all health professionals to provide consumer centred care and to design the care in partnership
with the patient and the family (Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in health Care, 2012).
The NSQHS Standards (2012) identified patient and family centred care and engagement as one of the
national priorities. As such, in order to improve patients safety outcomes and reduce hospital acquired
conditions and readmissions and provide client centred services, the IPE recognized the need for
effective interprofessional teams to collaborate and engage patients and families by implementing IPE
core structures and processes (Brewer Jones, 2013). The Curtin University s ICF encompasses five
interprofessional capabilities: reflection, communication, team function, conflict resolution, and role
clarification (Brewer Jones, 2013, p. e47). The purpose of ICF is to guide and assist health care
students for collaborative practice to deliver safe and high quality care, and client centred care (Curtin
University, 2011). Therefore, health science students are expected to be competent in all skills and
meet the criteria outlined in Curtin University ICF.

The Feminist Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter can easily be seen as an early feminist piece of work. Nathaniel Hawthorne created
a story that exemplifies Hester as a strong female character living with her choices, whether they were
good or bad, and also as the protagonist. He also presents the daughter of Hester, Pearl, as an
intelligent female, especially for her age. He goes on to prove man as imperfect through both the
characters of Dimmesdale and of Chillingworth. With the situation that all the characters face,
Hawthorne establishes the female as the triumphant one, accomplishing something that, during
Nathaniel Hawthorne s time, authors did not attempt. In the beginning of the book, Hawthorne paints
the picture of a female named Hester who has sinned. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Puritanical beliefs. Hester also proves herself to be a strong female character when she does not leave

that this woman should still call that place her home, where, and where only, she must needs be the

I Had Pity For Both Morgan And Kiki During This Period
My Commentary: I had pity for both Morgan and Kiki during this period. Morgan was making strides,
and the chain of events that led to him losing Kiki and his life wouldn t have happened if it weren t for
Ava stealing his meds. It was heartbreaking to hear how confused and disenchanted he was in his

occurrences of compassion for Kiki, who expressed to both Franco (10/3) and Dillon (10/7) that she
was losing sight of herself by constantly being on emotional eggshells with Morgan, tending to his
needs while ignoring her own. I was impressed that the writers gave her enough self awareness to

Nonetheless, excellent performances ensued, naturally (shout out to Dominic Zamprogna, A.K.A.

hearing Morgan died was the stuff of soap dreams and West s innate passion was the perfect ingredient
for it. Mascara covered tears fell down her face, as guilt ridden flashes of her removing the pills
seesawed with memories of their tawdry love affair, causing her to obliviously drop her martini glass.
She sobs while picking up the shards, realizing she s involved in killing the only man she s loved since
being in PC. Overtaken, she flings the pieces and screams, What have I done?!! She bumps into
Bobbie the next day, who asks if she ever truly loved Morgan. Ava replies Yeah, I loved him...very
much. There was a time when he was the only one who saw good in me at all. Now I suppose anyone
who ever did (veiled reference to Nikolas?) is gone, and dashes off to crumble on the elevator. Carly s
bouts of rage were everything (I can t come up with a suitable adjective, so we ll go with everything ).
On 10/12, Sonny got it about Julian s hit. Before smashing a childhood photo of Morgan, she fumed,

for a job it can be confusing and even downright puzzling at times. It is hard trying to apply for a job
that you don t know what the title means or even if you re qualified for, thus bringing a mountain of

when you have to answer specific questions about yourself to a total stranger who is essentially

Sometimes companies have to spend money to advertise the job posting so the company must have a
specific timeframe on when they are wanting to hire because most sites charge by the month. The
posting of the job is the finished product that all job applicants see. What they see is the job
description, compensation package, benefits package, and qualifications needed to obtain the job. This
is all a finished product from the pre application phase and senior leadership came up with on paper
ready for job applicants to look over and see if this is a job they are not only wanting, but qualified as
well. This job description may also name the way how they are going to pick the person for the job,
such as interviews and when they might be, also when they are expecting to make their choice and
how they will notify the person. This stage allows the company to be able to advertise their opening in
hopes they will pull from a diverse talent pool of applicants. The last thing the job posting does is tell
applicants how to apply. The next step in the application and hiring process is the screening and
applications stage. This is where applicants have posted resumes to the job posting or however the
company wanted people to apply. Normally a company is looking for one individual to fill the job
vacancy. The company may get hundreds of job applicants depending on the job and how well they

The Cask of Amontillado and A Rose for Emily to compare. I like them as these two works are very

The reader is told the story in flashback. Its structure is broken down into five individual sections,
which make up a masterpiece. It presents the change of Southern society after the American Civil War.
This novel has its own special features in the characterization and description of the themes.
Compassion and Forgiveness is a major theme that we can find in the story, it might not be apparent at
first. We almost have to be told that these sentiments are behind A Rose for Emily before we can see
them. The story is also about love, maybe it s not romantic and passionate, but it always inadvertently
revealed a trace of love in some details. Emily s father thought isolating her from the outside world is
the best protection for Emily, so he protected her with arrogant mentality. Emily might have thought
of resistance, but month after month and year after year, it had become a habit for her to stay in his
father s tower. When her father died, the tower she depended on came down. She might have open her
heart and no longer live lonely day and day, but

Cabg Report Nursing
The patient s comorbidities include Hypertension, hyperlipidemia, CAD, and GERD. The patient had
a CABG operation a few days back from admission day on 4 10 2017. In addition to the CABG
surgery, other procedures such as TEE, cardiopulmonary bypass, vein harvest, and a thoracotomy with
a chest tube and JP drain. Significant surgical procedures also include angioplasty and left and right
knee arthroplasty.
Few days back, the patient had a CABG surgery and was send home under stable conditions. Family
member noticed SOB and weakness from the patient and was directed to attend the ED. As they got to
the ED, the emergency department nursing staff noticed SOB with pericardial hematoma and
immediate drainage was necessary. A chest tube was placed as a treatment option. ... Show more

Other changes that could have helped, would have been to educate the patient about S/S to report after
a CABG surgery. Early identification of CABG complications could have helped the patient be in the
hospital early and for treatments to be provided.
Throughout my clinical rotation, the only concern for this patient was pain management and
discomfort from the chest tube site. The patient was given Ketorolac for a pain of 4/10 using the
numeric pain sale. The patient was also at risk for pneumonia and pressure ulcers from immobility and
not coughing/deep breathing. Nursing interventions were getting the patient up to the chair and using
the incentive spirometer ten times per hour. Another concern was SOB and fatigue with activities.
The physician was notified of the pain and discomfort related to the chest tube, which pain medication
was given. Other notifications were the amount of drainage from both the chest tube and the JP. Both
were under normal limits. SOB and fatigue with activities were also notified to the

Case Study Of Sandra Cisneros
After rereading Sandra Cisneros work I can draw many connections to my own case study, as well as
Pigg s, and Wardle and Downs. Cisneros work connects to all of these literary critics because she is
working to gain approval. Cisneros is aiming to gain approval from her father by writing her books.
This can connect to all of us because we are all writing to gain approval of some sort. it may be from
our peers or elders, but no matter what the situation, it can be connected to Brandt s theories. when
one goes back to Brandt s idea of sponsorship, one can see how important it is to have a sponsor when
looking at these two cases. Raymond had sponsorship from the minute he was old enough to go to
school. Being from a wealthy family meant his parents could get him any sponsorship he wanted. The
computer he was introduced to helped fuel his sponsorship, and Raymond was able to gain an
advantage in life because of the sponsorship from his family. Whereas Dora, on the other hand, had to
search for sponsors on her own, because her family simple didn t have the money to give her one. Her
lack of sponsorship caused her to drop out of college and become a maid.
These feelings of acceptance can be connected to human psychology as shown by Nathan Dewall, a
psychologist at the University of Kentucky People who feel isolated and lonely and excluded tend to
have poor physical health, DeWall says. They don t sleep well, their immune systems sputter, and they
even tend to die sooner than people who are surrounded by others who care about them (Association
for psychology). Hence, when I was conducting my case study I was working towards gaining
approval from my professor and peers. This idea of acceptance is universal feeling, no matter who you
are what you believe in, you should always be accepted. This is a major part of all of our writing
scenarios because we want people to approve of what we are writing about and the cause behind it. In
Cisneros , article she spent her entire life trying to gain approval from her father through the books
and articles that she has written. Cisneros even claims that everything [she] has] ever written has been
for him, to win his approval (Cisneros 103). This idea of working for

Characteristics Of Aeneas A Hero
Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status of
hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him just as much grief as it does
splendor.
What is a hero? We would like to think that a hero is someone who has achieved some fantastic goal
or status, or maybe someone who has accomplished a great task. Heroes find themselves in situations
of great pressure and act with nobility and grace. Though the main character of Virgil s Aeneid,
Aeneas, is such a person, it is not by his own doing. He encounters situations in which death is near, in
which love, hate, peace, and war come together to cause both good and evil. In these positions he
conducts himself with honor, by going along with what the gods want. Only then goes on to pave the
way for the Roman Empire. His deeds, actions, and leadership would never have come to be if it were
not for the gods. The gods took special interest in Aeneas, causing him misfortune in some cases,
giving him assistance in others. On the whole, the gods constantly provide perfect opportunities for
Aeneas to display his heroism. Without them, Aeneas would not be the hero he is. This gift does not
come without a price, though; he must endure the things heroes endure to become what they are.
Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status of
hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him

Goya and Daumier Comparison
I have found the realism arts to be very fascinating. The three pieces of art that I will be discussing are
Francisco Goya s The Third of May, 1808 oil on canvas 8ft 9 in. x 13ft 4in, Eugene Delacroix s
Liberty Leading the People, 1830 oil on canvas 8 ft 6 3/8 in. x 10ft. 8 in. and Honore Daumier, Fight
between Schools, Idealism and Realism, 1855 Caricature
The painting The Third of May, by Francisco de Goya, was done to commemorate the events of that
took place during the Napoleonic Wars in Madrid, Spain on May 2 and 3 1808. The painting sets the
scene of a man about to be killed by a firing squad. The bodies of those who have already been killed
are scattered around him, and those that wait to be killed stand in line behind him. The ... Show more

His art represented the reaction against previous conceptions of art and the desire for a new form of
expression. In order to understand the scope of Goya s art, and to appreciate the principles which
governed his development and tremendous versatility, it is essential to realize that his work extended
over a period of more than 60 years.
The importance of this factor is evident between his attitude towards life in his youth, when he
accepted the world as it was quite happily, in his manhood when he began to criticize it, and in his old
age when he became embittered and disillusioned with people and society. The world changed
completely during his lifetime and the society, in which he had achieved a great success, disappeared
during the Napoleonic war. Long before the end of the 18th century Goya had already turned towards
his new ideals and expressed them in his graphic art and in his paintings.
Daumier s made paintings and drawings of morals and manners that are highly original both in style
and subject. He added contemporary Parisian types, lawyers, politicians, businessmen, professors,
doctors and the petit bourgeois to his list of subjects. He also continued to attack the government
regime and any form of society that he found pompous or hypocritical. Daumier is among the
outstanding draughtsman of the past two centuries. His skill in drawing links him to the Old Masters,
but he was also much admired for his ability to use

Mabo Film Essay
Modern forms of literature have helped a considerable amount in reducing rates of racism targeted at
indigenous people of Australia, Kevin Naderian explains this phenomenon.
Non indigenous people often consider land as a materialistic possession something they own, a
commodity to be bought, sold, and trade, an asset that they intend to make profit off of.
Indigenous people, however, have a much deeper connection with the land. Rather than owning it, it
owns them not literally, of course. They live for the land, and are connected to it. According to a report
written by Senior Lecturer Ellie Vasta and Professor Stephen Castles, they (indigenous people) often
describe their connections are spiritual, social, physical, and cultural. Many ... Show more content on

Early in the movie, the family receives a notice that they will have to move from their beloved home
due to government orders, similar to how indigenous people were evicted from their land. The rest of
the movie is a story of how the proprietor, Darryl Kerrigan, stood up for his rights and fought to keep
his home.
It s commonly agreed upon that the plot of the movie represents the Aboriginal Land Rights
Movement, more specifically, the Mabo Land Rights Case of 1982 Eddie Mabo was also mentioned in
the movie, backing up these beliefs. Oh, the Aboriginal guy. Told the government to shove it. said
Darryl Kerrigan in the famous court scene within the movie. Darryl s mannerism towards the court
throughout the movie did a very good job at appealing to the anti authoritarian values that most
Australian s hold, further helping towards the popularity of the movie.
Something interesting to note is the fact the the directors of the film portrayed the land rights act
through the use of a stereotypical Aussie characters rather than starring indigenous characters. This
was most likely done to allow the non indigenous Australians to see life through the shoes of the

Echinodermata Research Paper
The primary form of reproduction for all Echinodermata is sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction
is achieved by the fertilization of a female egg by male spermatozoa. The interesting thing is,
echinoderm male and females expel their eggs and spermatozoa into water, a process known as
spawning, rather than the human and animal form of sexual reproduction. Once an egg is fertilized by
a sperm and an embryo develops, the echinoderm could take several different paths on its way to
develop into its juvenile state. Eggs that are small and lack yolk will go through a stage in which it
spends time as free swimming larvae that becomes part of the plankton. These echinoderms will begin
their life actively feeding on small organisms until they reach their juvenile stage and begin living on
the seafloor. This track of development is known as indirect development. Embryos that develop from
large eggs may develop into a larval, which is planktonic, but it would live off of its own yolk rather
than feeding off of small organisms before the juvenile stage. This is known ad direct development of
echinoderms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Antarctic, Arctic, and deep sea echinoderms, brood protection is well developed. Brood protection
can be explained as having the young echinoderm inside the body of the female, or it can be attached
to the outer surface of the female s body. In the Antarctic, Arctic, and deep sea species, many young
echinoderms will stay inside the mouth of the female parent, or it will latch to the underside of its
mother s body. In indirect development, the fertilized egg will divide many times, forming a blastula,
or a hollow ball of cells. The cells will continue to divide and form a gastrula, or a double layered

Psychological Ethics
Introduction Ethics are an essential part of the administration of psychological tests. Psychological
tests are an important tool in terms of many professions in an array of settings such as in clinical
psychology, education, and even business. However, misuse of psychological test by the
administrators is a constant and troubling issue that has the potential to harm the individuals involved
and even society as a whole. For test takers, the misuse of a psychological test could result in
improper diagnoses or inappropriate decision making. The misuse of tests reflects very poorly on the

The Importance Of I Love America In America
I love America, I love Americans one of my best friends is American and I have been over there on 7
or 8 occasions. I love the American way of life, their attitudes, their hospitable nature, and I love their
petrol prices £1.20 a gallon last time I was there!!! On top of their lifestyle, they have some
spectacular scenery and some awesome theme parks not to mention maple syrup and peanut butter and
jello!! Plain and simple I want to be American, and one day I would love to live there.
My first experience of flying was in 1983 when my parents took me to Malta. It was sunny, warm, a
little disconcerting but VERY exciting. I found although I did not know where I was,I was capable of
easily orienting myself and therefore became very comfortable very quickly. Malta, I found a little
boring, but it gave me a need to travel. A longing that 15 years later I would have the financial security
to fulfil (although a few years ago I had to put my travelling shoes away and my suitcase in the loft a
whole new article:)).
The first place I flew to in America was Texas. This was in August 1999. The reason for going
was...erm...complicated a whole other article again! I landed at around 2pm after 7 or 8 hours, but I
love flying, so it really wasn t a problem. My first adventure in America, but I d already decided it
wouldn t be my last. I flew into Dallas, but needed to be in Paris a 2 hour taxi ride away. By the time I
had cleared customs nowhere near as scary or intimidating

College of Engineering University of Houston 4800 Calhoun Rd. Houston, TX 77004 RE: Proposal
Dear Dr. Salvo: The enclosed recommendation report compares green roofs and white roofs, which I
informed you of in my previous letter. The information in this report includes the cost analysis, which
examines the installation, maintenance, and replacements costs of each roof type. In addition, the
report examines the environmental impact in offsetting greenhouse gases. In the world of construction,
a white roof is a structure covering made with a top layer of highly reflective white colored paint. A
waterproof barrier and an insulation board follow the top layer. If you have any questions regarding
this matter, please contact me at snguillen@uh.edu or at (832) 466 8076. Sincerely, Saira Guillen

Narrative Essay On The Big Dipper
The Big Dipper!!!
By Raagni
I was sooooooooooo excited. I got down from my silver Subaru with my grey jacket lagging in my
hand. I called over to my mom ,who was packing our bags for the day in the back of our car,
Do I need to get something?!
She replied with a nod since we could barely hear ourselves over all the noise from the car engines
parking. I walked over to her and looked at a jumble of things. Our cooler with food on one side and
our jackets, gloves and hats one side.
I asked my mom What should I do?
She told me to get my jacket and two water bottles from the side of my door.
Once we finally packed our bags,we walked over to Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
Whoa! I thought in my head. There were so many rides! Like the Typhoon when people got flipped
upside down! I was staring at that ride with my jaw dropping until my dad got our blue wrist bands.
The ride looked like shark tails. Then there was another ride called Double Shot that took your slowly
125 feet above ground then......DROPPED YOU IN A FRACTION OF SECONDS!!!
There was a big red ride that stood out to me. There was a sign on it with fancy letters The Dipper! I
stared walking to it like I was in some kind of trance when my dad grabbed my shoulder so gently
making me feel like I was an iceberg that would crack if it was touched. We spent about 2 hours at
other rides until I pleaded my dad for about 10 minutes.
PLEASE!?!?!?!?
Ok fine he replied
We were in the line for The Dipper! It had loops and tons

Picture Book Analysis Essay
Picture Books Importance on a Child s Development Ever analyzed a picture book before? The colors,
shapes, and underlying message on every inch of the page create a story. A story that makes your brain
tick and contemplate what exactly you re looking at. These things are significant to the constant
development of a human being, but the specifically to a child. When I was young I would drown my
floor with Dr. Seuss and books that gave excitement to me just by holding them. I loved looking at the
pictures, the endless rhymes, and magical color schemes because I had no other outlet than books to
reach in a grab my attention the way they could. That s why picture books are almost a necessity to a
child s development. The type of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On TV you only see what the media wants you to, but with books the possibilities are boundless
leaving you to take the story for what it s worth and run with it, all the while drawing your own
conclusions. For example, in my house, I would read books and then dart to my parents telling them
about what I just read and what it meant to me, or even how I saw the characters in my own mind. It s
amazing the things you can find out about yourself when you think and create on your own instead of
having someone do it for you. I appreciate those who gave me books, read to me out loud, or handed
me pens to doodle with because if I wasn t given the opportunities to explore I probably wouldn t be
the same person today. Even a kindergartener deserves that type of freedom and I feel picture books
are a great outlet for it. So you see, pictures, even in books help minds to develop each time you take a
glance at them. You gain that freedom in your mind and can grow and expand to photography,
galleries, museums, and even creations of your own personal art... the possibilities seem endless. I
would conclude that picture books are helpful to people of all ages, especially the minds of children.
Will you ever look at books the same

  • 2. Essay Comparing An Invitation To A Murder The passage An Invitation to a Murder written by Josh Pachter, included a variety of similarities and differences to the drama The Dying Detective written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Josh Pachter described the scene of the gathering for the murder a locked room mystery. Furthermore, the poison that killed Mrs. Abbott was in a medicine bottle; however, the poison that killed Victor Savage was from an ivory box. In contrast, the poison that murdered Victor Savage was presented in an ivory box. Moreover, the mood articulated in An Invitation to a Murder was happy for the reason that Mrs. Abbott thought life would be improved after her husband s death. Conversely, the mood in The Dying Detective was sorrowful as everyone suspected Sherlock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Dying Detective, it explained that Sherlock Holmes was literally dying from the prick of poison. To add, it explained that Mr. Culverton Smith was an expert on the poison that was injected into the ivory box; later we learned that Mr. Culverton Smith was indeed the one who injected it into the box in the first place. In An Invitation to a Murder, the crossbones on the prescription medication was believed to be a symbol of poison. Additionally, all of the supplies on the center of the table were items that would typically kill a person; yet, none of those belongings killed Mr. Abbott. Furthermore, both stories were premeditated murders. Mrs. Abbott knew that the twelve intelligent inspectors would prevent her from giving her husband the suspicious medication. Therefore, Mr. Abbott s heart would stop beating and he would eventually die. On the other hand, Sherlock Holmes planned out every detail of the situation and what would happen. He knew that Dr. Watson would be concerned about Mr. Culverton Smith arriving and would like to stay. This created a witness for Mr. Culverton Smith confessing the crime he committed. Lastly, both of the passages had evidence that exemplified situational irony. Mrs. Abbott was dressed in black to grieve the death of herself and her disabled husband. Moreover, the investigators that were going to witness the murder, became the murderers. In the other story, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Four Characteristics Of Emotional Intelligence Emotional Intelligence (EQ or EI) is a term created in 1990 by two American university professors, Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer. Daniel Goleman popularized Emotional Intelligence in his book that was published in 1995. Goleman was a science writer for the New York Times and he specialized in brain and behavior research. Emotional Intelligence is defined as the ability to recognize, understand and manage your own emotions and influence the emotions of others. This means that we are aware that emotions can drive our behavior and impact others either positively or negatively. Emotional Intelligence includes three skills: emotional awareness; the ability to harness emotions and apply them to tasks like thinking and problem solving; and the ability to manage emotions. According to Goleman, cognitive intelligence does not guarantee business success but emotional intelligence . The four characteristics of emotionally intelligent people are self awareness, self management, social awareness and social skills. In 1998, Goleman published a book called Working with Emotional Intelligence where he defined emotional intelligence saying that it consist of 25 skills, abilities and competencies. Publicly sharing information on cloud networks and other platforms are making for convenient but very vulnerable systems. So the leading tech companies really need to devote more resources into their security teams and fight back against the hacking attacks. The Lizard Squad and any other hacking group are constantly learning new ways to hack into a company s security system; companies like Sony and Microsoft need to staff their security team with people who know and learn the world of hacking perhaps more than the hackers themselves. • 6. Budget Transition A Brief Historical Review of Budget Transitions Given the size and intricacy of the federal government, transition planning is a formidable task. An incoming president is responsible for making more than 4,000 appointments and managing an organization with a budget of nearly $4 trillion and more than 2 million civilian employees performing missions as diverse as national defense, education, preventing the spread of disease and managing an energy infrastructure. Any candidate for the presidency must be ready to handle the demands of leading a massive organization on day one. • 7. Cinderella In Therapy Essay Cinderella in Therapy In the movie Cinderella, Cinderella is a maid to an evil stepmother and two very heartless and obnoxious stepsisters. The only reason that Cinderella still puts up with their orders is an example of the Behavioral perspective. The Behavioral Perspective puts emphasis on learning by experience with rewards and punishments. She knows that if she does not do the chores, she will be punished or thrown out of the household. She does not have anywhere to go because her mother and father have passed away. Because Cinderella is a genuinely kind human being who wishes to please, she usually does not stick up for herself against the others in the household. She is used to taking on the brunt of ... She takes care of her evil stepmother and stepsisters because she is good at heart, and she will put up with their torture to help them. She could choose not to help them, or just to leave, but she knows that she won t have anything left, and they need her. It is because of this pure, perfect attitude that the prince falls in love with her instantly, and not with the other girls that just want to be with the prince for superficial reasons. Her effervescent kind heartedness that prevails through her hardships is an example of the humanistic perspective. The humanistic perspective views behavior as controlled by the decisions that people make about their lives based on their perceptions of the world. It s a view in which personality is seen as developing through an actualizing tendency which unfolds in accordance with each person s unique perceptions of the world. There are some small parts in the movie that infer what Cinderella wants through her dreams. This would be an example of psychoanalysis which is a method that seeks to help gain insight into one s mind by recognizing and understanding unconscious thoughts and emotions. She mentions that she dreams at night of finding someone who will take her away from the house she is spending her days in now. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Attractive Nuisance Essay Question Presented Whether Sherman, under the attractive nuisance doctrine, will likely prevail against Carlisle for multiple injuries he sustained in a fall from wooden steps of a tree house in disrepair while trespassing upon Carlisle s property when: (1) Carlisle was aware that the neighborhood surrounding his property was populated with children; (2) a severe storm had damaged Carlisle s property and exposed the previously concealed tree house; (3) Sherman was six years of age at the time of his injury; (4) Carlisle had little incentive to make repairs to the tree house prior to the storm because of its concealment; (5) immediately following the storm, Carlisle made arrangements with a contractor at a higher than average rate to make ... The rope was beyond the reach of Sherman and the others, so they swung themselves over the lower branches of the tree to reach the lower landing of the tree house. They successfully managed to hoist themselves onto the lower landing from where they began to run along the labyrinth like walkways and steps in a race to reach the top of the tree house. Sherman was running ahead of the others but tumbled when one of the worn slatted steps splintered and gave way. Sherman fell a long distance to the ground and sustained multiple injuries. Discussion The attractive nuisance doctrine is based on the fundamental fact that children do not possess the same judgment or ability to recognize risk as adults. Johnson v. Wood, 155 Fla. 753, 21 So. 2d (Fla. 1945). Its purpose is to afford the trespassing child, where the elements of the doctrine are met, the same protection, applying the principles of ordinary negligence that would be afforded an invitee on the premises. Martinello v. B amp; P USA, Inc., 566 So. 2d 762 (Fla. 1990). The burden of proof is upon the plaintiff to demonstrate that each element of the attractive nuisance doctrine is satisfied. Id. at 764. Police Officer Probation Officer How does the ability to conduct legal searches differ between the police officer, probation officer, and corrections officer in the performance of their duties? There are vast and simiular reasons that all of these officers have to conduct legal searches. For police officers as we learned in several chapters, there are issues that come with their abilities to conduct legal searches, for example a police officer cannot just approach someone on their front porch and demand to enter their home to search for illegal substances or arms etc. However, if one was driving by your home and seen you in your garage with what appeared to be a meth lab or marijuana grow operation then they can stop to search as it would be a duty of theirs to protect the community. With the Revolution, came changes to the battlefield. Strategies changed and even the uniforms did too, starting with the battle techniques, guerilla warfare was a big player in this war, a technique also used by Spain in the late French Revolution against Napoleon. Guerilla warfare is also known as hit and run. (Ellis) By using this technique, it kept the British very busy by taking out small forts to keep the enemy from causing a large scale defeat. Another change from the battlefield was that there was less face to face fighting and more stealth action. Previously, battles were fought, as you would imagine it would be in lines marching steadily toward each other. This form of fighting still happened, but no two battles are the exact same. Another change that dramatically affected the playing field was the uniforms. During the American Revolution what you will hear a lot is, The red coats are what brought the down fall of the British forces. But its not as much the red coats but the camouflage of the Revolutionaries. The Americans introduced earth tones and darker colors to hide themselves in the forests. Washington trained and equipped the soldiers and kept their moral together which played a strong role in the war efforts. His perseverance created a level head state of mind that pushed the troops through the war. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. To What Extent Does the Mise-En-Scene in ‘Night of the... To what extent does the Mise en Scene in Night of the Hunter reinforce an understanding of the film s mood, character and narrative themes? The term Mise en Scene is used to signify the director s control over what happens in the film frame. In English the phrase literally translates to putting in the scene (Bordwell, 2010a). Night of the Hunter (Charles Laughton, 1955) is a prime example of a film that uses aspects of Mise en Scene to sway the audience s opinions of characters and their understanding of narrative themes and to create a certain atmosphere in the film. Although the fundamental aspects of Mise en Scene in both theatre and cinema are those of lighting, blocking and production design (costume, props and sets), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way the actor fluctuates between being composed and being suddenly aggressive expresses the psychotic nature of his personality. However, even when he is composed the actor still manages to give an unsettling performance. Although a lot of this is communicated through lighting techniques and non diegetic music, the actor was required to give a rather edgy performance. This performance in Night of the Hunter allows, in the narrative, the more strong minded characters such as John Harper and Rachel Cooper to see through his disingenuity. We are shown Rachel Cooper and John Harper s discomfort by their facial expressions, most prominently when Reverend Powell is giving his speeches about love and hate. The costume of Reverend Powell is also instrumental to the narrative in Night of the Hunter as the he relies upon his typical preacher outfit to fool the unsuspecting characters, the costume having obvious connotations of good morals. Similarly, makeup is employed in this film but this time to signify a progression in narrative. This is apparent when the kids are on the journey down the river, their eyes made dark with makeup. This indicates to the audience that the children have been travelling for a long time. The setting of the river is also significant in this film. It is alarming to know that each year there are over 4,500 scaffold injuries and 65 deaths (Occupational Safety and Health Administration [OSHA], 2016). In addition, there is a high risk for construction workers to be struck from objects falling off scaffolds. With these facts in mind, the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission s (OSHRC) 2013 case of the Secretary of Labor v Performance Contracting, Inc. Understanding that OSHA gives the Secretary of Labor the tasks of rulemaking and enforcement of its rules, it also gives the task of carrying out the legal process to the commission which both parties accepted, as well as PCI engaging as a business affecting interstate commerce (Secretary of Labor v. Both directly and indirectly, the Ancient Greeks communicated with their gods through various methods that ranged from oracles and seers to sacrifice. The oracles of ancient Greece were consulted on issues ranging from serious community matters to private healing and served as a conduit for communication between the mortals and the gods. Seers and oracles were an important part of Ancient Greek divination through which the gods provided with insight of events to come. In addition, sacrifice at the hearth or public bonfires were used as a means of direct communication with the gods in order to convey prayers to the heavens. In terms of indirect communication with the gods, one of the most famous methods was consulting an oracle. One of the most popular oracles of Ancient Greece was the Oracle of Delphi. People would journey for days to visit this oracle and hear the wisdom of the gods which she received through a gift from Apollo, the god of prophecy. Receiving a prophecy was a lengthy process which started with the oracle bathing in the spring of Castalia and drinking from another nearby stream. A priest would then determine if Apollo was present by pouring ice water on a goat. If the goat shivered the oracle was ready to give the prophecy, and if not then Apollo was not present and therefore she was not ready to deliver a prophecy (Pythia Prophecies, 2014). He is commonly acknowledged of being one of the most religious presidents in history. The purpose of this literature review is to give an overview of how academia interprets Carter s religiosity. Berggren and Rae (2006) describe Carter as an Evangelical style president with a strong devotion to his corresponding Evangelical Faith. He is referred to being the born again president. Carter had a born again experience during his pre presidential life which supports he was evangelist during this part of his life. In this experience, he questioned his faith after a failed attempt to become governor. It wasn t until his sister, a devout evangelist, spoke to and convinced him that he had not fully dedicated himself to God, that he had a born again realization and devoted himself to Christ. Carter s Evangelical Faith is further supported by him referencing himself as born again and saying, I believe God wants me to be the best politician I can be (Lindsay, 2007). Lindsay s article also reasons that at the beginning of his presidency Carter had a high rate of evangelical approval because these people could easily connect with like minded president. The start of the war can be traced back to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria Hungary in June 1918 by Gavrilo Princip, a member of a Bosnian Serb rebel group wishing to liberate ethnically Serbian parts of Bosnia from the Austro Hungarian Empire and integrate them with the neighboring Kingdom of Serbia. The assassination led to a cascade of events which ended in full scale conflict in Europe and other parts of the world between the Allied Powers, consisting of most notably France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, Italy and later in the war, the United States, and the Central Powers: Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. The war ended four years later with the defeat of the Central Powers. The Treaty of Versailles drafted in 1919, was one of the numerous attempts by the Allied Powers to achieve revenge on Germany and dismantle its economy. The treaty caused great unrest in Germany and dissatisfaction with the nascent postwar German government, the Weimar Republic. The unrest and dissatisfaction led to the rise of the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP or Nazi Party) and its intent to destroy and replace the Weimar Republic. Analytically and effectively, he interacts with the characters in different ways as the story goes on when he learns the good and bad people. The novel starts off with Alex Rider in a hospital recovering from an assassination attempt caused by the terrorist organization Scorpia. He meets a teen his age named Paul Drevin son of Russian multibillionare Nikolei Drevin and host of the Ark Angel project and forms an alliance with him. Alex, in an attempt to rescue Paul, pretends to be Paul himself and overpowers the four men, before eing knocked out by a fifth man. This shows how complex he is. Alex is captured by the men and taken to an abandoned apartment. The men reveal themselves to be Force Three, an eco terrorist group led by a man named Kaspar. Even Thomas Jefferson and James Madison denounced flag burning as a crime (Brady H 2). Others feel that flag desecration disrespects those who lost their lives for our country, stating the flag symbolizes the blood that runs through our country. George Whalen, a soldier, said the stars and stripes of our nations flag is the symbol of our nation s values... It represents loyalty patriotism and love of our country. ( citizens 3). Those against flag desecration must remember that the men and women who fought and died for our country were fighting for justice, freedom, and independence, all of which give one the right to desecrate the flag. Yes, the flag represents these freedoms, but the constitution ensures them. An amendment revoking this right would lead to limited individual freedoms and a lack personal responsibility. In addition to violating one s rights of freedom of expression, the no flag burning amendment gives government the power to decide what American actions are and are ... The National Safety And Quality Health Service Demonstrate Reflection: Form, Present and Support Own Opinions The National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standard 2 Partnering with Consumers requires all health professionals to provide consumer centred care and to design the care in partnership with the patient and the family (Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in health Care, 2012). The NSQHS Standards (2012) identified patient and family centred care and engagement as one of the national priorities. As such, in order to improve patients safety outcomes and reduce hospital acquired conditions and readmissions and provide client centred services, the IPE recognized the need for effective interprofessional teams to collaborate and engage patients and families by implementing IPE core structures and processes (Brewer Jones, 2013). The Curtin University s ICF encompasses five interprofessional capabilities: reflection, communication, team function, conflict resolution, and role clarification (Brewer Jones, 2013, p. e47). The purpose of ICF is to guide and assist health care students for collaborative practice to deliver safe and high quality care, and client centred care (Curtin University, 2011). • 34. The Feminist Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter can easily be seen as an early feminist piece of work. Nathaniel Hawthorne created a story that exemplifies Hester as a strong female character living with her choices, whether they were good or bad, and also as the protagonist. He also presents the daughter of Hester, Pearl, as an intelligent female, especially for her age. He goes on to prove man as imperfect through both the characters of Dimmesdale and of Chillingworth. With the situation that all the characters face, Hawthorne establishes the female as the triumphant one, accomplishing something that, during Nathaniel Hawthorne s time, authors did not attempt. She does the same with her daughter Pearl by dressing her in elaborate garments, strictly against Puritanical beliefs. Hester also proves herself to be a strong female character when she does not leave the town and attempt to start a new life elsewhere, void of her scarlet letter . It may seem marvelous, that this woman should still call that place her home, where, and where only, she must needs be the type of shame . Morgan was making strides, and the chain of events that led to him losing Kiki and his life wouldn t have happened if it weren t for Ava stealing his meds. It was heartbreaking to hear how confused and disenchanted he was in his recovery journals (11/4), trying to do everything by the book and still failing. I had my first real occurrences of compassion for Kiki, who expressed to both Franco (10/3) and Dillon (10/7) that she was losing sight of herself by constantly being on emotional eggshells with Morgan, tending to his needs while ignoring her own. Ava s tortured breakdown on 10/11 after hearing Morgan died was the stuff of soap dreams and West s innate passion was the perfect ingredient for it. Mascara covered tears fell down her face, as guilt ridden flashes of her removing the pills seesawed with memories of their tawdry love affair, causing her to obliviously drop her martini glass. She sobs while picking up the shards, realizing she s involved in killing the only man she s loved since being in PC. Overtaken, she flings the pieces and screams, What have I done?!! She bumps into Bobbie the next day, who asks if she ever truly loved Morgan. Ava replies Yeah, I loved him...very much. There was a time when he was the only one who saw good in me at all. Now I suppose anyone who ever did (veiled reference to Nikolas?) is gone, and dashes off to crumble on the elevator. It is hard trying to apply for a job that you don t know what the title means or even if you re qualified for, thus bringing a mountain of frustration and even a sense of anger. Analysis of The cask of Amontillado and A Rose for Emily In this paper, I choose the Gothic fictions The Cask of Amontillado and A Rose for Emily to compare. I like them as these two works are very exciting with suspense. Next I will compare them on three aspects. The first is the theme. A Rose for Emily, written by William Faulkner, is a short story about the life and death of Miss Emily Grierson. The reader is told the story in flashback. Its structure is broken down into five individual sections, which make up a masterpiece. It presents the change of Southern society after the American Civil War. This novel has its own special features in the characterization and description of the themes. Compassion and Forgiveness is a major theme that we can find in the story, it might not be apparent at first. We almost have to be told that these sentiments are behind A Rose for Emily before we can see them. The story is also about love, maybe it s not romantic and passionate, but it always inadvertently revealed a trace of love in some details. Emily s father thought isolating her from the outside world is the best protection for Emily, so he protected her with arrogant mentality. Emily might have thought of resistance, but month after month and year after year, it had become a habit for her to stay in his father s tower. • 41. Case Study Of Sandra Cisneros After rereading Sandra Cisneros work I can draw many connections to my own case study, as well as Pigg s, and Wardle and Downs. Cisneros work connects to all of these literary critics because she is working to gain approval. Cisneros is aiming to gain approval from her father by writing her books. This can connect to all of us because we are all writing to gain approval of some sort. it may be from our peers or elders, but no matter what the situation, it can be connected to Brandt s theories. when one goes back to Brandt s idea of sponsorship, one can see how important it is to have a sponsor when looking at these two cases. Raymond had sponsorship from the minute he was old enough to go to school. Being from a wealthy family meant his parents could get him any sponsorship he wanted. The computer he was introduced to helped fuel his sponsorship, and Raymond was able to gain an advantage in life because of the sponsorship from his family. Whereas Dora, on the other hand, had to search for sponsors on her own, because her family simple didn t have the money to give her one. Her lack of sponsorship caused her to drop out of college and become a maid. These feelings of acceptance can be connected to human psychology as shown by Nathan Dewall, a psychologist at the University of Kentucky People who feel isolated and lonely and excluded tend to have poor physical health, DeWall says. They don t sleep well, their immune systems sputter, and they even tend to die sooner than people who are surrounded by others who care about them (Association for psychology). Hence, when I was conducting my case study I was working towards gaining approval from my professor and peers. This idea of acceptance is universal feeling, no matter who you are what you believe in, you should always be accepted. This is a major part of all of our writing scenarios because we want people to approve of what we are writing about and the cause behind it. In Cisneros , article she spent her entire life trying to gain approval from her father through the books and articles that she has written. Cisneros even claims that everything [she] has] ever written has been for him, to win his approval (Cisneros 103). This idea of working for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Characteristics Of Aeneas A Hero Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status of hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him just as much grief as it does splendor. What is a hero? We would like to think that a hero is someone who has achieved some fantastic goal or status, or maybe someone who has accomplished a great task. Heroes find themselves in situations of great pressure and act with nobility and grace. Though the main character of Virgil s Aeneid, Aeneas, is such a person, it is not by his own doing. He encounters situations in which death is near, in which love, hate, peace, and war come together to cause both good and evil. In these positions he conducts himself with honor, by going along with what the gods want. Only then goes on to pave the way for the Roman Empire. His deeds, actions, and leadership would never have come to be if it were not for the gods. The gods took special interest in Aeneas, causing him misfortune in some cases, giving him assistance in others. On the whole, the gods constantly provide perfect opportunities for Aeneas to display his heroism. Without them, Aeneas would not be the hero he is. This gift does not come without a price, though; he must endure the things heroes endure to become what they are. Sexual reproduction is achieved by the fertilization of a female egg by male spermatozoa. The interesting thing is, echinoderm male and females expel their eggs and spermatozoa into water, a process known as spawning, rather than the human and animal form of sexual reproduction. Once an egg is fertilized by a sperm and an embryo develops, the echinoderm could take several different paths on its way to develop into its juvenile state. Eggs that are small and lack yolk will go through a stage in which it spends time as free swimming larvae that becomes part of the plankton. These echinoderms will begin their life actively feeding on small organisms until they reach their juvenile stage and begin living on the seafloor. This track of development is known as indirect development.
