Oral Disease And Its Effects On The Health And Well Being...
Background
Oral health is a key component to overall health and well being for children. Although it is
preventable, tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease in the U.S., five times more
common than asthma. If left untreated, decay can lead to serious health issues that include
malnourishment, bacterial infections, and even surgery or hospitalization. Fortunately, using fluoride
and dental sealants when combined with good oral hygiene, nutrition, and regular dental care can keep
most mouths healthy. Oral health status and access to dental care for children in Iowa is mostly very
good. However disparities exist for certain populations in the state such as low income families,
children in rural counties, and racial and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also true of all children, regardless of payment source for care. Older children are much more
likely to have had a dental visit in the previous year as shown.
Insurance Coverage
Although dental insurance is not as prevalent as medical insurance, coverage did improve from 2000
to 2005, and remained steady until 2010, similar to the trend for medical insurance. The increase in the
number of children receiving public insurance (Medicaid and hawk i) likely also increased dental care
access, since both programs cover a comprehensive list of dental services. In contrast, many private
health insurance policies have limited or no dental insurance benefits. However, the higher unmet
need for dental care indicates that the increase in insurance coverage did not automatically translate
into better access to dental care for lower income children.
School based sealant program data (children in grades 2 8) finds that 3 children in every 20 have no
payment source for dental care. The percent of children with untreated decay is high (18.6%) and even
higher for children on Medicaid (21.86%).
Having a regular source of care is an important characteristic of a dental home, as it is for a medical
home. Nine out of ten children had one main place that they went to receive their dental care. CSHCN
(97%), African American children (95%) and children with dental insurance (93%) were most likely to
report a regular source of dental care.

Essay on Krishna s World View

Krishna s World View
The Bhagavad Gita uses the conversation between Pandava Prince Arjuna and his guide Lord Krishna
to portray Hinduism world view and Krishna s view on the different fundamental questions. When he
s facing a war, Arjuna is guided by Krishna to be a selfless leader, and dedication to the cause.
Origin, this fundamental question focuses on why is there something rather than nothing. One
important aspect of the Krishna world view is that, there is one ultimate reality in which everything
was already in existence. The Brahman, as the ultimate reality is known, is what manifested anything
that has been created. Thus, as it is stated in Rigveda, that existence was ... Show more content on

You cannot make out what exists in it, yet it is there. It is this very fineness which ensouls this entire
world, it is the true one, it is the soul. and Everything that exists has its self in that subtle essence. (1.4
1 7) * Krishna pointed out in Bahagavad Gita that the impermanent has no reality , that the spirit was
not born; it will never die and thus, the spirit kills not, not it will be killed. (2.16) in the same section,
he also described the ones who thinks a spirit kills and the ones who think a spirit can be killed, are
both ignorant. The spirit then in Krishna s view, is immortal and everlasting. * As the prince asked
Lord Krishna on whether he should kill for the war, Krishna used the arguments above and more to
show that there would be transcendence and so on, and when a person is killed , his or her spirit would
just throws away its worn out body and enters a new one.
Krishna also addressed the issue of the attachment over reality. * Krishna pointed out that most people
are afraid of death, and that the ignorance described previously is what preventing them from
achieving immortality. Only those who have realized that the impermanent has no reality and the
reality lies in the eternal; and have seen the boundary between these two would have attained the end
of all knowledge. (Bahagavad Gita 2.15) * He sees that the human seeks only the gratification of
desire as the highest goal; seeing nothing beyond; (Swami 16) is being

Population Control In Vonnegut
In 2BR02B, Vonnegut provides a fruitful, dark, and mind bending story. Vonnegut s story represents
the values of death and life when he says, [d]eath, barring accidents, was an adventure for volunteers
(Vonnegut). This reveals that there are those who consider death an adventure and not an end. His
story illustrates the toll of human nature on humanity, no matter the situation. In particular, Vonnegut
utilizes a story of population control to propel his ideas further. Furthermore, Vonnegut employs the
short story to describe the inconsistencies of population control. Ultimately Vonnegut s illustration
paints population control as a heartless act against humanity. However, Vonnegut s overexerts the idea
of population control being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The symbolism between the Painter and the Mural is a salient contrast within Vonnegut s story. This
contrast is an intentional comparison used to highlight the ultimate behavior of humanity amongst a
form of population control as inhumane as gas chambers. The painter acts as symbolism of humanity s
rejection. The mural acts as the glorification of the control. The Painter gives off a careless attitude
and a slight rejection towards the population control in the story. In response to the orderly s
comments the painter scorns, You think I m proud of this daub? You think this is my idea of what life
really looks like (Vonnegut). This reveals the painter s attitude towards population control.
Furthermore, it solidifies the fact that the painter represents humanity s rejection. In direct relation, of
course, is the mural. The mural itself, is a representation of all the important people of the hospital
staff. Moreover, the mural acts as a glorification and acceptance of the population control. Together,
the painter is seen filling the faces of these people, simultaneously rejecting that the mural, [l]ooks just
like heaven or something (Vonnegut). What the contrast reveals in a deeper sense is humanity (the
painter) continuing to accept the inhumane population control (painting the mural) regardless of their
rejection. It worthy to note that the acceptance of population control varies from each human being.

-2015 Exchange Exhibition of Asia Contemporary Ceramic Art
River flows from the side of the hill named Xiangshan; Students work in the quiet garden view
campus, which the buildings there are decorated with historical ceramic tiles.
For students and teachers, having a chance to be in this cultural environment is a life s fortune.
Although today s social life is so different from the past, people are getting harder to focus on pure
academic research because of the distractions from daily affairs. Especially for higher degree students
that rely on independent research, which provides freedom, but also brings the problems of shallow
research. Currently, the higher degree education in contemporary ceramic art of Asian should
construct its own value system that suits Eastern culture and aesthetic. The views of above aspects had
formed the exhibition s main concept.
The Asian art academies are facing the same situation in the higher degree education of ceramic art.
The day to day teaching needs new energy and clear direction; the homogeneity in teaching should be
avoided, and the lack of uniqueness should be made up. So, we need to focus on the root of problem
and plan ahead. The scholar Zhu Xi has asked in his book The Feeling Arisen By Reading: Asking
why the river is so clean; it is because the fresh water always comes from the fountainhead. It is

The Causes Behind the Tragedy of William Shakespeare s...
The Causes Behind the Tragedy of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet is a
tragic love story written by William Shakespeare. The play is based around two lovers, who commit
suicide when their feuding families prevent them from being together, set in Verona, in northern Italy.
The play is generally involving love and family honour, in the days when the play was written, parents
expected to be obeyed they even decided who their children should marry. Romeo and Juliet go
against their parent s wishes and the feud when they fall in love. There are many reasons as to why the
final tragedy may have occurred. Some of the main characters contribute to it; the pace of the play ...

However at the time the Friar was thinking of reuniting the families, rather than other circumstances.
The Friar influences the play s outcome dramatically by his decisions; he marries Romeo and Juliet;
what if he refused to marry them? Would it end up differently? Or were they destined to die? After
Romeo and Juliet get married, they are separated, as Romeo killed Tybalt and is banished. In order to
prevent Romeo from committing suicide, the Friar made a promise to Romeo, he also arranges Romeo
and Juliet to consummate their marriage. Later when Juliet is also threatening suicide (to avoid the
arranged marriage with Paris) the Friar uses one of his medicines to fake Juliet s death. The Friar s
intervention fails, and they both end up dead. His message to Romeo of the current circumstances is
not delivered, so Romeo is unaware that Juliet wasn t truly dead, and as a result commits suicide.
However what if The Friar didn t give Juliet the medicine? she may have committed suicide or would
she have married Paris, and Romeo Rosaline? Or was their deaths the destined end? I feel Shakespeare
portrays Friar Lawrence as involved in causing the final tragedy, even though his intentions were of a
good nature: To turn your

T-Shirts form Lubbok
It is very likely that our T shirts are born near Lubbock, Texas, which is the known to be the cottonest
city in the whole world. Nelson Reinsch is a very successful cotton farmer. Him and his wife Ruth
tend to be seen as people whose minds are opening rather than closing as they approach the ends of
their lives. Producing cotton is no longer the exhausting physical process that it used to be, but Nelson
and Ruth still fight both the impulses of nature and the moods of the markets. Every summer, they
take on the different types of weathers they have to face and compete with cotton farmers from over
70 countries. Nelson Reinsch 1,000 acres can produce about 500,000 pounds of cotton lint if it is fully
planted, which is enough for about 1.3 million T shirts. Him ending his life in the same occupation
that he began with makes a clear statement about the U.S. cotton industry. For over 200 years, The
U.S. has been the certain leader of the global cotton industry. Poor countries have a very small chance
to catch up with all the challenges they face. The U.S. has dominantly occupied first place in cotton
production, cotton exports, farm size, and yields per acre. American industries usually compete with
countries that are similar to them. For example, U.S. forms compete with Japanese automakers,
German chemical companies, and Swiss pharmaceuticals. For climatic reasons, there are few
advanced industrial economies that produce cotton. American cotton growers compete with

Durham Regional Police Service Case Study
Durham Regional Police Services (D.R.P.S) is an organization who provides emergency services. This

existence at that time. ( History of Durham Regional Police, 2018 ). Currently D.R.P.S is founded by
Ontario s provincial government. Since the many years that D.R.P.S has been created, it has

An Analysis of Solipsism in Kant’s Critique of Pure...
An Analysis of Solipsism in Kant s Critique of Pure Reason
My goal is to examine solipsism and discover how Immanuel Kant s Transcendental Idealism could be
subject to a charge of being solipsistic. Following this, I will briefly review the destructive impact this
charge would have on certain of Kant s positions. After the case for solipsism is made, I intend to
describe a possible line of rebuttal from Kant s perspective that could be made to the charge.
The issue of solipsism is intriguing in that it seems to be universally rejected as a basis of
metaphysics. Yet, the modern tradition has had difficulty supporting this rejection. Antony Flew
defines solipsism as, The theory that I am the sole existent. To be a solipsist I ... Show more content

Thereafter, the modern tradition was challenged to prove the existence of an external world and the
existence of other minds. Once we concede...that the immediate objects of sense experience are mind
dependent (ideas, impressions, sense data, etc.), it is indeed questionable whether we can argue validly
to the existence or nature of a mind independent external world. (Flew: 330)
Within the Critique of Pure Reason, Kant affirms that our capacity to perceive objects in the external
world is dependent upon the subject s imposition of certain conditions of the possibility of experience.
Time, space and the categories are among these. Thus, human beings are capable of viewing only the
appearance and not things as they are in themselves.
Now a thing in itself cannot be known through mere relations; and we may therefore conclude that
since outer sense gives us nothing but mere relations, this sense can contain in its representation only
the relation of an object to the subject, and not the inner properties of the object in itself. This also
holds true of inner sense, not only because the representations of the outer senses constitute the proper
material with which we occupy our mind, but because the time in which we set these representations,
which is itself antecedent to the consciousness of them in experience, and which underlies them as the
formal condition of the mode in which we posit them in the

Taking a Look at Graphic Novels
Graphic novels are seen to be successful to those who don t like reading pages of words upon words,
but instead acting more like a comic book with semi detailed pictures that help the reader envision the
author s intended view. Although, they do have their limitations on being condensed and lacking
details that could allow the reader to fully understand characters in the environment of the novel. With
graphic novels, history is a great use to portray many important events such as the Boxer Rebellion in
China and provide a novel that can inform an audience of the history and reasoning behind the event.
As a whole graphic novels are best in that they can get a point across to the reader much more
efficiently than a wordy novel, but not with it s limitations of being condensed in nature and lacking
the extra details needed to understand the characters in the story. Therefore, graphic novels reach a
wide set of audiences, remains strong in providing voice and portraying it s setting, but is weak with
characterization and providing sufficient detail to the understanding of a historic event. To obtain a
wider range of an audience, graphic novels will just do that. Graphic novels have many positives to
the reader that it helps the reader view the novel in the author s light of thinking. Graphic novels
illustrate the scene in comic strip form that only narrative is needed to bring the images to life. In
Boxers and Saints, the story of Bao and Vibiana is illustrated so beautifully

Power In Fahrenheit 451
Society s Tools to Control Us
How society controls individuals is seen in everyday life in most places that any person may visit on
an average day. The book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, written in 1953, is set in in the future. The
book s concept is about how books were banned and it explained how life was changed without books.
It has many fictional examples of how society controls individuals in real life even today. However,
they might be seen as slightly exaggerated. There are many documentaries and articles that explain
and warn of the power society can have over an individual, and how the people must guard themselves
against it. Society controlling individuals is shown Fahrenheit 451 and the modern world through
media, peer pressure, and ignorance about society s power.
The media controlling individuals through society is not a new subject. Advertisements, shows, and
news all influencing what each individual thinks about the world and in turn allowing power over the
people engaged with it. So what is power? How exactly does it affect me? Well, Carnegie Endowment
for International Peace explains it as Power is the ability of one party [or an individual] to make
another party do, or stop doing, something. (Naím, Moisés. Why Power Is Decaying in the Modern
World ). Simply put this can also be explained as power being in control over another thing. This is
shown in Fahrenheit 451 in Mildred s (,the main character s wife,) and her friends interaction

Grit By Angela Angele Duckworth Analysis
Being Grit and Growth Mindset is the Key to Success Angela Lee Duckworth states: Grit is related
because part of what it meant to be gritty is to be resilient in the face of failure or adversity. As she

that shows the relationship between grit and achievement, and the importance of helping students

Chinese, but my family moved to Kazakhstan. For those unknown country, language, culture I was
very baffled, but I overcome those difficulties; therefore being grit and having growth mindset lead me
to success. In the article The Significance of Grit she states grit has two components; passion and
perseverance. Passion means a strong feeling or emotion to someone s job they are doing.
Perseverance means no matter how difficult it is people are keep trying doing it, and never give up.
We can read the article The Significance of Grit that The most successful people in life are both
talented and gritty in whatever they ve chosen to do (Duckworth p17) Then she mentioned about when
people emphasized talent; will become nothing. I totally agree with her. When people make an effort

Core Competencies and the Planning and Implementing of Information Technology Abstract With any
organization, rather it be civilian or military focused, there is a common element that resides;
organizational competencies. These competencies is what makes any organization unique and
identifies how they do the things they do, how relationships with institution division and external

I would agree in part, but not wholly. In fact, I agree that Information Technology will be implemented
into the organization in such a way that promotes and ensures organizational success of its strategic
goals, but I would have to disagree on the order between organizational strategic goals and
organizational competencies. With traditional organizational planning, most organizations have each
part (department) determine specific programs and projects to support the organizations strategic
goals. This is also known as a mix of bottom up and top down planning. The organization creates
strategic goals, disseminates it across the organizations departments and has each department design
or implement projects and programs to achieve or support the organization with achieving those goals.
Instead, if we shifted the level importance from organizational strategic goals to the effective
implementation and recognition of organizational competencies, then it is more likely that the
organization as a whole will be better aligned across all parts (departments) and each part will more
likely identify the appropriate strategic goals. In a report by Cullen Coates and Associates in 2008,
Managing Organizational Competencies, they define this as the process of determining how each part
of the organization can contribute to each competency will cause all parts of

need to decide whether to use a parallel or a series circuit, we will choose a circuit type based on how
long the battery lasts and which circuit has the most power. We will also need to find the most suitable
places to put the components.
Manufacturing to be able to manufacture and create the designs we have produced, also each part of
the final product should be fully functional and contribute towards the finished product.
The main desired outcome would be to finish the green powered car with plenty of time to spare so we

International Business And Management Of A Multinational...
Introduction
As the threshold of conducting business in foreign country becomes lower, it has been appealing to
turn a local company into a multinational corporation. By leveraging and gathering resources from
global platform, company will make leaping progress not only on profit, but also on brand building.
However, the moment a company begins to consider paving its way into foreign markets and goes
globally, it needs to take into consideration various kinds of transaction expenditure that rose in
trading. Therefore, it has been critical for company executives to understand and utilize the
Transaction Cost Theory (TCT) in order to find the most suitable method for company to supervise
and minimize the transaction costs. Through analysis into TCT, one can have a deep comprehension
on the extension of how multinational companies depend on each other, and how to choose between
centralized inner supervision (within company) and outer surveillance (market) so as to diminish
transaction costs.
This paper analyzes the reasons that lead to transaction costs, what is the meaning and how to apply
TCT in international business and management endeavor. Even though TCT is a renowned theory, it
still needs revision and enhancement. However, scholars put widely different perspectives on to TCT
theory scattering into diverse subjects, making the theory unable to receive progress as a whole.

and never wants to see her again because he is now in love with Helena. Hermia awakes from her
terrible dream and retells it thinking that Lysander is nearby listening. Then she realizes that he is not

Billy The Kid Short Story
The Death of Billy the Kid
In the period time from 1865 1890, the Plain and Indian War. It started when the Americans wanted to
expand to the Great Plains. The only problem was that the Indians lived there. In addition, the
government decided to move them to reservations that were small and farming was not possible
because the land was dry. The Indians fought for their lands and some of those battles were the Battle
of the Little Bighorn, Wounded Knee, and the Sand Creek Massacre. Furthermore, after the Indians
lost, the government gave them the opportunity to become and live like white settlers. For that, they
will have to give up on their culture, traditions, and language. Furthermore, while the Plain and Indian
Wars was going on, in the Wild West Billy the Kid was becoming a legend. In short, like every legend
there had to be an end. In the article, The Authentic Life of Billy the Kid by Garrett Pat, identify the

Scarecrow Logos
The video of the scarecrow was interesting because of how they delivered a message without any form
of dialogue, just a song in the background. The song was usually a happy and light but in this video it
was, at first, slow and sad but later in the video it became happy when the scarecrow introduced a
different type of a lifestyle that does not hurt or have animals be eaten. At the beginning he was going
to work in a building that had a beautiful picture of a farm s land and he had to go through it to get to
work. He was used to the repetition of the job had because he went to work every day. The crows that
were distributed out to the workers were used to keep the scarecrows in check and keep them busy by

All of the things that the scarecrow fix are so that the people do not see what was behind the company
buildings, because if they were to know what was going on they would not want the food that was
being made and the big company would not go broke. Then when he is done with work he goes back
home, which is on the outside of the city, he sees his face on the billboard and cannot believe he is
apart of what was going on. When he gets back home you can see all the colors and the difference in
his mood changes at the moment he steps foot on his little farm. The song also changes tempo and you
can tell there is something good coming. He harvests at his farm and takes it to the city and he cooks
the fruits and vegetables at his little stand into a burrito. Once someone saw the burrito and came over
to look at it a sign came down and that said cultivate a better world. He wanted to make a change in
the food industry by making a different form of food to sell and with that people would try to change
their minds about the food they were eating by knowing how their food was being made and what was
going into what they were eating. Chipotle has a pretty good marketing

Persons subject to the rules shall not intentionally contact a game official forcibly during the game.
PENALTY Unsportsmanlike conduct. Administer as a dead ball foul. 15 yards from the succeeding
spot and automatic disqualification. Automatic first down for fouls by Team B if not in conflict with
other rules. This is the official rule in question as written in the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Football Rules
and Interpretations. If you have been paying attention to the bowl games the last few days, this rule
has come up in two key instances. The first was on December 29th in the Music City Bowl featuring
Kentucky and Northwestern while the second happened on December 30th in the Orange Bowl
between Miami and Wisconsin. Here is what happened, the response dictated by the rules, and how
the officials involved should have reacted. Music City Bowl What Happened: Arguably Kentucky s
best offensive player, running back Benny Snell, was handed the ball on a running play in the second
quarter of the game. Snell was tackled for a loss by numerous Northwestern players who, while not
breaking any rules themselves, were pretty rough slamming him to the ground. As Snell was getting
up, an official stood over him and reached out both hands towards Snell s upper chest. Snell reached
up and grasped the official by the wrists and pushed the official lightly away by shaking his head. A
flag was thrown, a 15 yard penalty was enforced, and Snell was ejected from the game. What the
Rules Say: According to the rules, the official made the right call. Snell did intentionally contact a
game official, and there is also a strong argument that, by pushing the officials hands away, Snell
contacted the official forcibly. What Should Have Happened: The official should have realized that
Snell was just downright mauled by Northwestern players at the end of a play that lost his team a

The Communist Manifesto
The book I chose was Karl Marx s The Communist Manifesto. Marx starts his book off by outlining
what is happening to society. He states that society as a whole is more and more splitting up into two
hostile camps, into two great classes facing each other: Bourgeoisie and Proletariat. Here, he is
portraying that society has divided themselves and are on the verge of fighting, hence him saying two
hostile camps . He is describing the fact that, according to him, money is driving us to fight.
Bourgeoisie, by Marx s definition, means the capitalist class who owns most of society s wealth and
means of production . He posits that this class has title to all of the people below them because they
own the means of production. These people under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to his philosophy, members of the bourgeoisie party are worshiping their wealth. His
solution is to get rid of set wages and to help everyone receive duplicate compensation. Whether you
are practicing medicine or checking someone out at the local McDonald s, you both make the same
amount. In theory, this is a good idea. But, as with many political doctrines, they are only good in
theory. Not in action. Take the Soviet Union, for example. In rationale, they wanted a communist
government, but they technically never achieved it. There were still people that made more profit than
others. There were still classes. In order to have a TRUE communist government, everyone has to be
(must be) equal, from the leader down to the laborers. Everyone must make the same profit and have
access to the same things. In the case of the Soviet Union, there were still classes. Some people were
still above others. It wasn t that they didn t have enough time to get everyone on the same level class
wise, it s that they adamantly chose not to. They could have gotten it to work, but they didn t. They
chose to keep some people superior to others. Why? you might ask. Well, I believe that they were
afraid. They were afraid that if everyone was equal, then people might try to take the power away
from the ones who had

Data Privacy On Ethical Online Business
Introduction
In a few decades time, computers will be interwoven into almost every industrial product , said
computer scientist pioneer Karl Steinbuch in 1966. Steinbuch s prediction couldn t be closer to the
truth. Today we see the Internet of Things (IoT), which is the concept that modern devices are
provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring any
human to human or human to computer interaction (Rouse, 2014). Wireless technologies, the internet,
and various other types of computer networks have converged to form the IoTs as we know it. The
Internet of Things is a complex technical and policy related subject, and impacts everything from
politics and the environment, to society and the economy. Before delving into the implication of data
privacy on ethical online business, one must understand what the two respective terms mean. Privacy
is defined as the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information about
themselves and thereby express themselves selectively (Roux, 2012). The right to privacy is explicitly
stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and declared by the U.S. Supreme Court as a
right implicitly granted by the Constitution. Though privacy is viewed as a necessary right, with the
onset of the internet and tracking cookies, privacy has become more difficult to maintain for online
businesses.
Business ethics is the study of how to behave as individuals in business ,

Three Factors Of Self-Motivation In Bandura s Theory Of...
Human behavior, the SCT defines, as reciprocal interaction of personal factors, behavior, the
environment (Bandura, 1977; 1986; 1989 ). These three factors, according to the SCT s theory,
determine an individual s behavior. Through cognitive processes, it is considered that the behavior is
regulated and the SCT determines the behaviorist thoughts that response consequences mediate
behavior. Eventually, to decide expectations of behavioral results, the response consequence of a
behavior is used. The individual, from the expectations, is able to assume the outcome of the behavior
before an action is performed. The SCT is in a situation to decide that maximum behavior is learned
strongly.

An individual s self efficacy is from his physiological state (such as emotional arousal, nervousness,
or anxiety) while performing a behavior. As a result, from observing successes and failures of others,
persuasion, history of achievement in a particular field, he develops self efficacy (Bandura, 1977).

Cultural Differences in Self-Efficacy
Cultural Differences in Self Efficacy
Introduction Bandura (1997) defined self efficacy as beliefs in one s capabilities to organize and
execute courses of action required to produce given attainments (p. 3). Self efficacy refers to the
judgments of what one can do with whatever skills one possesses rather than the judgments of the
skills themselves. In self efficacy theory, people evaluate their skills and abilities and convert their
beliefs about their capabilities into purposive action (Bandura, 1997). As people enact their self
efficacy beliefs, they demonstrate a degree of control over (a) the activities they choose to pursue, (b)
the persistence they display in the pursuit of goals, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Measures Most previous studies dealing with self efficacy used self report measures. However, self
report measures may have problem when applied to two different groups of people using different
languages. For this reason, cross cultural psychologists suggested to use indirect measures (Biernat,
Manis, Nelson, 1991). In this study, indirect self efficacy measures will be used by comparing subject
s actual scores to their predicted scores on a cognitive ability task.
Instrument; Cognitive Ability Task The short form of the Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM;
Raven, Raven, Court, 1991) developed by Bors and Stokes (1998) was used to test cognitive ability.
As Bors and Stokes (1998) reviewed, APM is one of the best measures of general intelligence and
cognitive ability, and is considered a culture free test because it requires minimal language skills. The
short form APM has proven psychometric properties (Bors Stokes, 1998). The test consists of 12
items, which are puzzles with missing pieces of figures for participants to solve. One correct solution
counted for one point, and a perfect test score was 12.
Procedure
20 subjects will be assigned to each group of condition, so 80 subjects are needed for each source of
self efficacy condition; total = 80 x 4 = 320. See table 1 for details. The subjects in each group will be
asked to perform the APM task. After the task, they will be asked to predict their scores on it. The

Kenneth C. Davis s Don t Know About History
Kenneth C. Davis, the author of Don t Know Much about History, claimed that the true discoverers of
America were the people whose cultures and societies were well established here while Europe was
still in the Dark Ages, the so called Indians. For all the diversity of the First Americans, they inherited
certain common traits from their old world ancestors. Reflecting their Asiatic heritage, they were
generally short to medium stature, with straight black hair, light brown skin, had epicanthic fold, and
prominent cheek bones features that in 1492 reinforced Columbus mistaken conviction that he had
reached the East Indies and prompted him to assign to the inhabitants the inaccurate yet enduring title
of Indians.
Indians arrived in America some 30,000 to 40,000 years ago. Archeological findings and Radiocarbon
testing suggested that the prehistoric people who populated the Americas were hunters following the
herds of wooly mammoths. They walked from Siberia across a land bridge into Alaska. They headed
south toward warmer climates, slaughtering the mammoths as they went. As the glaciers melted, the
oceans rose and covered this land bridge, creating the present day Bering Strait and separating Alaska
from Russia. By the time Christopher Columbus arrived, they were millions of what might be called
First Americans or Amerindians occupying the two continents of Americas. The first noted
documentation of the Beringia theory of the peopling of North America was by Jose de

there are customary ways of addressing them. This us usually done via chanting or speaking out loud.

Timothy Leary defined a religious experience as the ecstatic, incontrovertibly certain, subjective
discovery of answers to seven basic spiritual questions. William James on the other hand describes
religious experience as the belief that it involves an altogether supernatural domain, somehow
inaccessible to science but accessible to the individual human subject. So Leary believes religious
experiences as sort of a way to answers life s questions whereas James sees it as a whole other realm
of consciousness that is different to each individual. When William James is talking about saintliness
he is talking about a group of spiritual emotions formed in a saintly character, or as he describes it The
collective name for the ripe fruits of religion in a character . Saintliness involves four distinct features.
The first of these features is a feeling of being in a wider life than that of the world s selfish little
interests. The second of these features involves a sense of the friendly continuity of the ideal power
with our own life, and a willing self surrender to its control. The third features relates to an immense
elation and freedom, as the outlines of the confining selfhood melt down. The last feature entails a
shifting of the emotional center towards loving and harmonious affections, towards yes, and away
from no , where the claims of the non ego are

Lasting Impacts of Funk and Disco
The Lasting Impacts of Funk and Disco
The transition from the 1960 s to the 1970 s was a rough one. A decade characterized by the supposed
defeat of poverty and racism as well as the conquest of space, was subsequently and surprisingly
followed by a decade of chaos and disorder in the world. The country was running out of promise, the
troops were running out of Vietnam, and the President was running out of office. Luckily however, the
emergence of great music simply could not be affected by the unfortunate economic and social issues
going on in the world at the time. The surfacing of both funk and disco characterized the time period
starting from the late 1960 s into the 1970 s, and although each music movement had its own style, its

The film actually became extremely popular not only in the United States, but all over the globe. Its
soundtrack, written by the Bee Gees, reached number one on the charts in the United States, Europe,
and Asia. Travolta became an idol to millions of people, and a well know sex symbol for people in the
Western world for many, many years. Another one of the major differences between disco and funk is
the fact that disco had a much more impactful crossover appeal on other styles of music. Disco s
popularity led to many artists to record disco like songs. Obviously, their songs weren t pure disco, but
pop or rock songs with disco influences. Finally during the late 1970 s, the world saw the decline of
disco. The movement that was characterized by shiny, glittery surfaces; high heels and luscious
lipstick; jam packed jeans and cut pecs, (Shapiro 3) was finally coming to an end. It started as a strong
anti disco sentiment developed among rock fans and musicians, particularly in the United States. The
heightened hostility took the form of small riots in various places around the country, graffiti, and t
shirts voicing the protestors hatred toward it. Then, the day that disco died came on July 12, 1979
during Disco Demolition Night. An anti disco demonstration in Chicago resulted in horrid
consequences and havoc in Comiskey Park, as well as other parts of Chicago.

The Theme Of Dharma Can Be Found Throughout The Ramayana
The theme of dharma can be found throughout the Ramayana. Rama, firmly committed to duty, is
meant to be a near perfect representation of dharma (though he stumbles in a few places, as I will
explore in the next paragraph), an example to strive toward. Here, though, I will examine examples
within the text of adharma, and through examining what not to do, find out more about what to do. I
will focus mostly on the actions of three characters: Kaikeyi, Soorpanaka, and Ravanna. But first I
will examine one of the more questionable actions taken by our hero. Even a few actions by Rama at
points throughout the story appear to be adharmic. Though some would reply that the appearance of
adharma in some of Rama s actions is just a result of human misunderstanding, and the circumstances
of those incidents justify the actions, it s still worth exploring why those actions would usually be
considered adharma and what we can learn from them. Rama s attack on Vali in particular seems
difficult to justify why should Rama pick sides in this squabble between family? Even if he is right to
intervene, why not seek out more peaceful means of ending the squabble before resorting to violence?
Even if he has to resort to violence, why not come out and face Vali directly instead of ambushing him
while he s busy with Sugreeva? Rama tries to answer all of these questions when asked by Vali, but
none of his answers are particularly convincing, leaving us ordinary mortals, as Narayan writes,

  • 2. Oral Disease And Its Effects On The Health And Well Being... Background Oral health is a key component to overall health and well being for children. Although it is preventable, tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease in the U.S., five times more common than asthma. If left untreated, decay can lead to serious health issues that include malnourishment, bacterial infections, and even surgery or hospitalization. Fortunately, using fluoride and dental sealants when combined with good oral hygiene, nutrition, and regular dental care can keep most mouths healthy. Oral health status and access to dental care for children in Iowa is mostly very good. However disparities exist for certain populations in the state such as low income families, children in rural counties, and racial and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is also true of all children, regardless of payment source for care. Older children are much more likely to have had a dental visit in the previous year as shown. Insurance Coverage Although dental insurance is not as prevalent as medical insurance, coverage did improve from 2000 to 2005, and remained steady until 2010, similar to the trend for medical insurance. The increase in the number of children receiving public insurance (Medicaid and hawk i) likely also increased dental care access, since both programs cover a comprehensive list of dental services. In contrast, many private health insurance policies have limited or no dental insurance benefits. However, the higher unmet need for dental care indicates that the increase in insurance coverage did not automatically translate into better access to dental care for lower income children. School based sealant program data (children in grades 2 8) finds that 3 children in every 20 have no payment source for dental care. The percent of children with untreated decay is high (18.6%) and even higher for children on Medicaid (21.86%). Having a regular source of care is an important characteristic of a dental home, as it is for a medical home. Nine out of ten children had one main place that they went to receive their dental care. CSHCN (97%), African American children (95%) and children with dental insurance (93%) were most likely to report a regular source of dental care. Availability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Krishna s World View Duncan Guarino James Joiner PHI150 Mar 26, 2013 Krishna s World View The Bhagavad Gita uses the conversation between Pandava Prince Arjuna and his guide Lord Krishna to portray Hinduism world view and Krishna s view on the different fundamental questions. When he s facing a war, Arjuna is guided by Krishna to be a selfless leader, and dedication to the cause. Origin, this fundamental question focuses on why is there something rather than nothing. One important aspect of the Krishna world view is that, there is one ultimate reality in which everything was already in existence. The Brahman, as the ultimate reality is known, is what manifested anything that has been created. Thus, as it is stated in Rigveda, that existence was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You cannot make out what exists in it, yet it is there. It is this very fineness which ensouls this entire world, it is the true one, it is the soul. and Everything that exists has its self in that subtle essence. (1.4 1 7) * Krishna pointed out in Bahagavad Gita that the impermanent has no reality , that the spirit was not born; it will never die and thus, the spirit kills not, not it will be killed. (2.16) in the same section, he also described the ones who thinks a spirit kills and the ones who think a spirit can be killed, are both ignorant. The spirit then in Krishna s view, is immortal and everlasting. * As the prince asked Lord Krishna on whether he should kill for the war, Krishna used the arguments above and more to show that there would be transcendence and so on, and when a person is killed , his or her spirit would just throws away its worn out body and enters a new one. Krishna also addressed the issue of the attachment over reality. * Krishna pointed out that most people are afraid of death, and that the ignorance described previously is what preventing them from achieving immortality. Only those who have realized that the impermanent has no reality and the reality lies in the eternal; and have seen the boundary between these two would have attained the end of all knowledge. (Bahagavad Gita 2.15) * He sees that the human seeks only the gratification of desire as the highest goal; seeing nothing beyond; (Swami 16) is being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Population Control In Vonnegut In 2BR02B, Vonnegut provides a fruitful, dark, and mind bending story. Vonnegut s story represents the values of death and life when he says, [d]eath, barring accidents, was an adventure for volunteers (Vonnegut). This reveals that there are those who consider death an adventure and not an end. His story illustrates the toll of human nature on humanity, no matter the situation. In particular, Vonnegut utilizes a story of population control to propel his ideas further. Furthermore, Vonnegut employs the short story to describe the inconsistencies of population control. Ultimately Vonnegut s illustration paints population control as a heartless act against humanity. However, Vonnegut s overexerts the idea of population control being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The symbolism between the Painter and the Mural is a salient contrast within Vonnegut s story. This contrast is an intentional comparison used to highlight the ultimate behavior of humanity amongst a form of population control as inhumane as gas chambers. The painter acts as symbolism of humanity s rejection. The mural acts as the glorification of the control. The Painter gives off a careless attitude and a slight rejection towards the population control in the story. In response to the orderly s comments the painter scorns, You think I m proud of this daub? You think this is my idea of what life really looks like (Vonnegut). This reveals the painter s attitude towards population control. Furthermore, it solidifies the fact that the painter represents humanity s rejection. In direct relation, of course, is the mural. The mural itself, is a representation of all the important people of the hospital staff. Moreover, the mural acts as a glorification and acceptance of the population control. Together, the painter is seen filling the faces of these people, simultaneously rejecting that the mural, [l]ooks just like heaven or something (Vonnegut). What the contrast reveals in a deeper sense is humanity (the painter) continuing to accept the inhumane population control (painting the mural) regardless of their rejection. It worthy to note that the acceptance of population control varies from each human being. That is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Experiment Field, Advanced Classroom Experiment Field, Advanced Classroom -2015 Exchange Exhibition of Asia Contemporary Ceramic Art River flows from the side of the hill named Xiangshan; Students work in the quiet garden view campus, which the buildings there are decorated with historical ceramic tiles. For students and teachers, having a chance to be in this cultural environment is a life s fortune. Although today s social life is so different from the past, people are getting harder to focus on pure academic research because of the distractions from daily affairs. Especially for higher degree students that rely on independent research, which provides freedom, but also brings the problems of shallow research. Currently, the higher degree education in contemporary ceramic art of Asian should construct its own value system that suits Eastern culture and aesthetic. The views of above aspects had formed the exhibition s main concept. The Asian art academies are facing the same situation in the higher degree education of ceramic art. The day to day teaching needs new energy and clear direction; the homogeneity in teaching should be avoided, and the lack of uniqueness should be made up. So, we need to focus on the root of problem and plan ahead. The Causes Behind the Tragedy of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story written by William Shakespeare. The play is based around two lovers, who commit suicide when their feuding families prevent them from being together, set in Verona, in northern Italy. The play is generally involving love and family honour, in the days when the play was written, parents expected to be obeyed they even decided who their children should marry. However at the time the Friar was thinking of reuniting the families, rather than other circumstances. The Friar influences the play s outcome dramatically by his decisions; he marries Romeo and Juliet; what if he refused to marry them? Would it end up differently? Or were they destined to die? After Romeo and Juliet get married, they are separated, as Romeo killed Tybalt and is banished. In order to prevent Romeo from committing suicide, the Friar made a promise to Romeo, he also arranges Romeo and Juliet to consummate their marriage. Later when Juliet is also threatening suicide (to avoid the arranged marriage with Paris) the Friar uses one of his medicines to fake Juliet s death. The Friar s intervention fails, and they both end up dead. His message to Romeo of the current circumstances is not delivered, so Romeo is unaware that Juliet wasn t truly dead, and as a result commits suicide. However what if The Friar didn t give Juliet the medicine? she may have committed suicide or would she have married Paris, and Romeo Rosaline? Or was their deaths the destined end? • 7. T-Shirts form Lubbok It is very likely that our T shirts are born near Lubbock, Texas, which is the known to be the cottonest city in the whole world. Nelson Reinsch is a very successful cotton farmer. Him and his wife Ruth tend to be seen as people whose minds are opening rather than closing as they approach the ends of their lives. Producing cotton is no longer the exhausting physical process that it used to be, but Nelson and Ruth still fight both the impulses of nature and the moods of the markets. Every summer, they take on the different types of weathers they have to face and compete with cotton farmers from over 70 countries. Nelson Reinsch 1,000 acres can produce about 500,000 pounds of cotton lint if it is fully planted, which is enough for about 1.3 million T shirts. Him ending his life in the same occupation that he began with makes a clear statement about the U.S. cotton industry. For over 200 years, The U.S. has been the certain leader of the global cotton industry. Poor countries have a very small chance to catch up with all the challenges they face. The U.S. has dominantly occupied first place in cotton production, cotton exports, farm size, and yields per acre. American industries usually compete with countries that are similar to them. • 9. An Analysis of Solipsism in Kant’s Critique of Pure... An Analysis of Solipsism in Kant s Critique of Pure Reason My goal is to examine solipsism and discover how Immanuel Kant s Transcendental Idealism could be subject to a charge of being solipsistic. Following this, I will briefly review the destructive impact this charge would have on certain of Kant s positions. After the case for solipsism is made, I intend to describe a possible line of rebuttal from Kant s perspective that could be made to the charge. The issue of solipsism is intriguing in that it seems to be universally rejected as a basis of metaphysics. Yet, the modern tradition has had difficulty supporting this rejection. Antony Flew defines solipsism as, The theory that I am the sole existent. To be a solipsist I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thereafter, the modern tradition was challenged to prove the existence of an external world and the existence of other minds. Once we concede...that the immediate objects of sense experience are mind dependent (ideas, impressions, sense data, etc.), it is indeed questionable whether we can argue validly to the existence or nature of a mind independent external world. (Flew: 330) Within the Critique of Pure Reason, Kant affirms that our capacity to perceive objects in the external world is dependent upon the subject s imposition of certain conditions of the possibility of experience. Time, space and the categories are among these. Thus, human beings are capable of viewing only the appearance and not things as they are in themselves. Now a thing in itself cannot be known through mere relations; and we may therefore conclude that since outer sense gives us nothing but mere relations, this sense can contain in its representation only the relation of an object to the subject, and not the inner properties of the object in itself. This also holds true of inner sense, not only because the representations of the outer senses constitute the proper material with which we occupy our mind, but because the time in which we set these representations, which is itself antecedent to the consciousness of them in experience, and which underlies them as the formal condition of the mode in which we posit them in the ... • 10. Taking a Look at Graphic Novels Graphic novels are seen to be successful to those who don t like reading pages of words upon words, but instead acting more like a comic book with semi detailed pictures that help the reader envision the author s intended view. Although, they do have their limitations on being condensed and lacking details that could allow the reader to fully understand characters in the environment of the novel. With graphic novels, history is a great use to portray many important events such as the Boxer Rebellion in China and provide a novel that can inform an audience of the history and reasoning behind the event. As a whole graphic novels are best in that they can get a point across to the reader much more efficiently than a wordy novel, but not with it s limitations of being condensed in nature and lacking the extra details needed to understand the characters in the story. Therefore, graphic novels reach a wide set of audiences, remains strong in providing voice and portraying it s setting, but is weak with characterization and providing sufficient detail to the understanding of a historic event. To obtain a wider range of an audience, graphic novels will just do that. Graphic novels have many positives to the reader that it helps the reader view the novel in the author s light of thinking. Graphic novels illustrate the scene in comic strip form that only narrative is needed to bring the images to life. In Boxers and Saints, the story of Bao and Vibiana is illustrated so beautifully ... • 11. Power In Fahrenheit 451 Society s Tools to Control Us How society controls individuals is seen in everyday life in most places that any person may visit on an average day. The book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, written in 1953, is set in in the future. The book s concept is about how books were banned and it explained how life was changed without books. It has many fictional examples of how society controls individuals in real life even today. However, they might be seen as slightly exaggerated. There are many documentaries and articles that explain and warn of the power society can have over an individual, and how the people must guard themselves against it. Society controlling individuals is shown Fahrenheit 451 and the modern world through media, peer pressure, and ignorance about society s power. The media controlling individuals through society is not a new subject. Advertisements, shows, and news all influencing what each individual thinks about the world and in turn allowing power over the people engaged with it. So what is power? How exactly does it affect me? Well, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace explains it as Power is the ability of one party [or an individual] to make another party do, or stop doing, something. (Naím, Moisés. Why Power Is Decaying in the Modern World ). Simply put this can also be explained as power being in control over another thing. Even though Singapore s history dates from the 11th century, the island was little known to the West until the 19th century. Singapore is one of the World s largest ports, because the city of Singapore has become a major port, with trade exceeding that of Malaya s, Malacca and Penang combined. With all three countries being relatively close together, costs are minimal. Not to mention, this export oriented cooperation is still attractive to foreign trading (Heng, 2006, pg. 1). • 13. Grit By Angela Angele Duckworth Analysis Being Grit and Growth Mindset is the Key to Success Angela Lee Duckworth states: Grit is related because part of what it meant to be gritty is to be resilient in the face of failure or adversity. As she said, grit is being positive to response failure. Angela Lee Duckworth is an American author. In the article Grit, which is written is written by Angela Lee Duckworth in 2003. She introduces her research that shows the relationship between grit and achievement, and the importance of helping students develop grit. By reading the article The Significance of Grit, it was touched me deeply. For me, I am Chinese, but my family moved to Kazakhstan. For those unknown country, language, culture I was very baffled, but I overcome those difficulties; therefore being grit and having growth mindset lead me to success. In the article The Significance of Grit she states grit has two components; passion and perseverance. Passion means a strong feeling or emotion to someone s job they are doing. In fact, I agree that Information Technology will be implemented into the organization in such a way that promotes and ensures organizational success of its strategic goals, but I would have to disagree on the order between organizational strategic goals and organizational competencies. With traditional organizational planning, most organizations have each part (department) determine specific programs and projects to support the organizations strategic goals. This is also known as a mix of bottom up and top down planning. The organization creates strategic goals, disseminates it across the organizations departments and has each department design or implement projects and programs to achieve or support the organization with achieving those goals. Instead, if we shifted the level importance from organizational strategic goals to the effective implementation and recognition of organizational competencies, then it is more likely that the organization as a whole will be better aligned across all parts (departments) and each part will more likely identify the appropriate strategic goals. In a report by Cullen Coates and Associates in 2008, Managing Organizational Competencies, they define this as the process of determining how each part of the organization can contribute to each competency will cause all parts of ... The first was on December 29th in the Music City Bowl featuring Kentucky and Northwestern while the second happened on December 30th in the Orange Bowl between Miami and Wisconsin. Here is what happened, the response dictated by the rules, and how the officials involved should have reacted. Music City Bowl What Happened: Arguably Kentucky s best offensive player, running back Benny Snell, was handed the ball on a running play in the second quarter of the game. Snell was tackled for a loss by numerous Northwestern players who, while not breaking any rules themselves, were pretty rough slamming him to the ground. As Snell was getting up, an official stood over him and reached out both hands towards Snell s upper chest. Snell reached up and grasped the official by the wrists and pushed the official lightly away by shaking his head. A flag was thrown, a 15 yard penalty was enforced, and Snell was ejected from the game. What the Rules Say: According to the rules, the official made the right call. Snell did intentionally contact a game official, and there is also a strong argument that, by pushing the officials hands away, Snell contacted the official forcibly. What Should Have Happened: The official should have realized that Snell was just downright mauled by Northwestern players at the end of a play that lost his team a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But, as with many political doctrines, they are only good in theory. Not in action. Take the Soviet Union, for example. In rationale, they wanted a communist government, but they technically never achieved it. There were still people that made more profit than others. There were still classes. In order to have a TRUE communist government, everyone has to be (must be) equal, from the leader down to the laborers. Everyone must make the same profit and have access to the same things. • 25. Data Privacy On Ethical Online Business Introduction In a few decades time, computers will be interwoven into almost every industrial product , said computer scientist pioneer Karl Steinbuch in 1966. Steinbuch s prediction couldn t be closer to the truth. Today we see the Internet of Things (IoT), which is the concept that modern devices are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring any human to human or human to computer interaction (Rouse, 2014). Wireless technologies, the internet, and various other types of computer networks have converged to form the IoTs as we know it. The Internet of Things is a complex technical and policy related subject, and impacts everything from politics and the environment, to society and the economy. Before delving into the implication of data privacy on ethical online business, one must understand what the two respective terms mean. Privacy is defined as the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information about themselves and thereby express themselves selectively (Roux, 2012). The right to privacy is explicitly stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and declared by the U.S. Supreme Court as a right implicitly granted by the Constitution. Though privacy is viewed as a necessary right, with the onset of the internet and tracking cookies, privacy has become more difficult to maintain for online businesses. Cultural Differences in Self-Efficacy Cultural Differences in Self Efficacy Introduction Bandura (1997) defined self efficacy as beliefs in one s capabilities to organize and execute courses of action required to produce given attainments (p. 3). Self efficacy refers to the judgments of what one can do with whatever skills one possesses rather than the judgments of the skills themselves. In self efficacy theory, people evaluate their skills and abilities and convert their beliefs about their capabilities into purposive action (Bandura, 1997). However, self report measures may have problem when applied to two different groups of people using different languages. For this reason, cross cultural psychologists suggested to use indirect measures (Biernat, Manis, Nelson, 1991). In this study, indirect self efficacy measures will be used by comparing subject s actual scores to their predicted scores on a cognitive ability task. Instrument; Cognitive Ability Task The short form of the Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM; Raven, Raven, Court, 1991) developed by Bors and Stokes (1998) was used to test cognitive ability. As Bors and Stokes (1998) reviewed, APM is one of the best measures of general intelligence and cognitive ability, and is considered a culture free test because it requires minimal language skills. The short form APM has proven psychometric properties (Bors Stokes, 1998). The test consists of 12 items, which are puzzles with missing pieces of figures for participants to solve. One correct solution counted for one point, and a perfect test score was 12. Procedure 20 subjects will be assigned to each group of condition, so 80 subjects are needed for each source of self efficacy condition; total = 80 x 4 = 320. See table 1 for details. Davis, the author of Don t Know Much about History, claimed that the true discoverers of America were the people whose cultures and societies were well established here while Europe was still in the Dark Ages, the so called Indians. For all the diversity of the First Americans, they inherited certain common traits from their old world ancestors. Reflecting their Asiatic heritage, they were generally short to medium stature, with straight black hair, light brown skin, had epicanthic fold, and prominent cheek bones features that in 1492 reinforced Columbus mistaken conviction that he had reached the East Indies and prompted him to assign to the inhabitants the inaccurate yet enduring title of Indians. Indians arrived in America some 30,000 to 40,000 years ago. Archeological findings and Radiocarbon testing suggested that the prehistoric people who populated the Americas were hunters following the herds of wooly mammoths. They walked from Siberia across a land bridge into Alaska. They headed south toward warmer climates, slaughtering the mammoths as they went. As the glaciers melted, the oceans rose and covered this land bridge, creating the present day Bering Strait and separating Alaska from Russia. By the time Christopher Columbus arrived, they were millions of what might be called First Americans or Amerindians occupying the two continents of Americas. Rama, firmly committed to duty, is meant to be a near perfect representation of dharma (though he stumbles in a few places, as I will explore in the next paragraph), an example to strive toward. Here, though, I will examine examples within the text of adharma, and through examining what not to do, find out more about what to do. I will focus mostly on the actions of three characters: Kaikeyi, Soorpanaka, and Ravanna. But first I will examine one of the more questionable actions taken by our hero. Even a few actions by Rama at points throughout the story appear to be adharmic. Though some would reply that the appearance of adharma in some of Rama s actions is just a result of human misunderstanding, and the circumstances of those incidents justify the actions, it s still worth exploring why those actions would usually be considered adharma and what we can learn from them. Rama s attack on Vali in particular seems difficult to justify why should Rama pick sides in this squabble between family? Even if he is right to intervene, why not seek out more peaceful means of ending the squabble before resorting to violence? Even if he has to resort to violence, why not come out and face Vali directly instead of ambushing him while he s busy with Sugreeva?
